DUNEDIN, Florida - General manager Alex Anthopoulos believes the 2014 edition of the Blue Jays will contend in the American League East. It begins with starting pitching. "We have the talent," said Anthopoulos. "Last offseason because guys were hurt, we didnt have the bodies. We didnt have Hutchison or Drabek. We knew we needed Romero to bounce back. Happ was coming off a foot injury. We have a lot more bodies and a lot more depth. Beyond our front five last year we were thin. We had Romero who scuffled as our sixth starter coming out of camp. Beyond that, it was Ramon Ortiz and Chien Ming-Wang and we had to sign five minor league free agent starters. We didnt need to do any of that this offseason." One of the catchphrases of the offseason, and now here in Dunedin, is "internal depth," a reference to the clubs young cadre of pitching prospects beginning to bump their heads on the minor league ceiling. Its needed, too, because Anthopoulos seemed to pour the final dose of cold water on upgrading his rotation via an external option, most notably Ervin Santana, the last marquee free agent pitcher on the market. "Wed like to do it but were not going to do it at all costs," said Anthopoulos. "As we sit here today, I think its unlikely at this point, were getting so late into spring training. Anthopoulos continued, "Its a comparison, how much better are they than what you have." We have to make that evaluation. Term and dollars are important. You like every player but at certain years and dollars they dont make sense for us. If its just a draft or something and youre just picking a player, then abilities are a separate thing but theres obviously an acquisition cost to all of these guys." As for the persistent chatter linking the Jays to Santana and other free agent starters like Ubaldo Jimenez (signed with Baltimore) and Matt Garza (signed with Milwaukee,) Anthopoulos suggested the reports were overblown. "To trades? Yes. We got very close on some trades. Free agency-wise, I dont think we ever got close at all." Fans, understandably, dont want to hear excuses for the misery of 2013. It was clear as early as April the club had flaws, not the least of which were starting pitching that didnt match they hype and poor infield defense. Still, health, or lack thereof, played a role. When J.A. Happ was hit in the head with a line drive by Tampa Bays Desmond Jennings on May 7, he joined Josh Johnson on the disabled list. R.A. Dickey already was pitching with an injured muscle in his neck and Brandon Morrow was dealing with forearm pain, which ultimately was diagnosed as an entrapped radial nerve that would end his season weeks later. Only Mark Buehrle was healthy. Brett Lawrie went down with a strained oblique suffered in a World Baseball Classic tune up game in early March and missed opening day. Jose Reyes was lost to a severe ankle sprain on April 12, which necessitated the expedited return of a rehabbing Lawrie. He wasnt ready and would end up getting hurt again. Reyes was back by the time Lawrie returned on July 13, but Lawrie played at second base that day and the two wouldnt play the left side of the infield together until July 19. Jose Bautista, Melky Cabrera and Colby Rasmus also missed significant time but their injuries occurred once the Jays were out of the race. Anthopoulos had no intention from diverting from the course set out with the major trades of last offseason. He wants the players hes assembled from years past, most of whom remain here, to get the job done. "We werent going to take away from the core of this team," said Anthopoulos. "We made a change behind the plate; that was important to us. Second base, we think theres obviously going to be turnover there. A third of our lineup is probably going to be different from opening day last year." DEALING WITH INJURIES Theres nothing the Blue Jays could do about Jose Reyes and Brett Lawrie injuring their ankles sliding into second base. Nothing could have been done to prevent Brandon Morrows nerve injury. Anthopoulos puts a lot of the aches and pains that befell last years club in the "freak injury" category. The club is concerned about the number of oblique injuries its suffered, however. "Colby (Rasmus) missed about four to six weeks and Rajai (Davis) missed two to three weeks," said Anthopoulos. "There are some things that we tweaked there. Like I talked about at the end of last year, it seems obliques are popping up a lot more or at least theyre being diagnosed a lot more. It felt like for us, the last two years, we were getting a lot more obliques so we reevaluated some of the strength and conditioning work that we were doing and made some tweaks there." Brett Lawries missed time with an oblique strain in each of the last two seasons. He added yoga to his offseason workout regimen in an effort to loosen his core muscles. Brandon Morrow missed almost three months of the 2012 season with an oblique strain. FILLING OUT THE ROTATION Esmil Rogers and Todd Redmond appear to be the early favourites to land the final starters job. Both are out of options, meaning they could be lost to waivers if the Jays tried to send them to the minor leagues. They face stiff competition from emerging youngsters like Drew Hutchison, Marcus Stroman and Kyle Drabek, and could find themselves in the bullpen if they dont win a starting job out of spring training. "We started before with an eight-man bullpen," said Anthopoulos. "We could do that as well. If everyone is throwing the ball that well and we dont want to expose anyone to waivers, or we dont want to trade someone and not get full value, we could go to an eight-man bullpen." HIGH PRAISE FOR GOINS Ryan Goins will have to earn the starting job at second base this spring but his boss loves his defense. "Hes as good defensively, I believe, as weve had here since Orlando Hudson was here," said Anthopoulos. "I think hes that good a defender. Defensively, hes gold glove caliber. The question will be the bat. Obviously weve got some competition for him and if he does make this team we view him right now as the nine-hole hitter. I think with Ryan, because the defense is so good, it allows him to not have to hit as much because he can help us on the other side of the ball to such a great extent." Maicer Izturis, Brent Morel, Chris Getz and Jonathan Diaz also are vying for the second base job. Philadelphia Eagles Brandon Boykin Jersey . One thing that hasnt changed is their friendship. ATLANTA -- The Braves are supposed to be a team that relies on strong pitching and home runs. Instead, Atlanta evened its NL division series against the Los Angeles Dodgers with clutch defence as the complement for Mike Minors strong start. Jason Heyward drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the seventh, Minor allowed only one run and the Braves turned three double plays in their 4-3 win over Los Angeles on Friday night. The defence delivered another key play in the ninth when catcher Gerald Laird threw out pinch-runner Dee Gordon trying to steal second base. The series shifts to Los Angeles tied 1-1. The Braves knew they couldnt afford a second straight home loss. "We definitely didnt want to lose two games in front of our home crowd," said Chris Johnson, who had two hits, including a fourth-inning single that gave Atlanta a 2-1 lead. Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez drove in three runs with three hits, including a two-run homer in the eighth that cut the Braves lead to one run. The homer added more value to Heywards two-run single in the seventh. With the Braves leading 2-1, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly ordered an intentional walk to pinch-hitter Reed Johnson, loading the bases for Heyward. Mattingly wanted left-hander Paco Rodriguez to face Heyward, a left-handed hitter. Heyward drilled a two-run single up the middle for a 4-1 lead. Mattingly said Rodriguez "is a guy we think gets Heyward out. Been getting those guys out all year long for us." The decision to face Heyward instead of Johnson left room for second-guessing. "I mean, you think you obviously look at everything, but were down 2-1," Mattingly said. "Yeah, you always look back at everything. You could have done this, you could have done that. I think you look at it honestly and see what you think." Heyward said he understood the strategy. "Play the matchups," Heyward said. "Thats what the post-season is about. You go lefty-lefty there. "Im glad to have an opportunity to come through big for my team right there. I got a pitch and didnt miss it." Minor allowed one run on eight hits and one walk in 6 1-3 innings. The Braves last double play ended the seventh after the Dodgers had runners on first and third with one out following a pinch-hit infield single by Michael Young. Reliever Luis Avilan fielded a grounder by Carl Crawford and made a quick and accurate throw to shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who then fired to first to complete the double play. Simmons said he didnt expect Ayala to come to seccond with his throw.dddddddddddd "I was hoping hed go home," Simmons said. "He kind of caught (the grounder) a little weird and I was scared he was going to make a bad throw. He made a good throw and it was a good play." Simmons jumped in the air after making the throw to first as Ayala pumped his fist on the mound and Minor applauded in the dugout. "We played good defence," said Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, who said Avilan made a bold throw. "You see a lot of those plays end up in centre field," Gonzalez said. Zack Greinke allowed two runs on only four hits and no walks in 6 innings. Right-hander Chris Withrow allowed two runs in the seventh. The Braves also turned double plays in the second and third innings follow leadoff singles by Juan Uribe and Crawford, respectively. David Carpenter almost lost the 4-1 lead in the eighth. Carpenter walked Mark Ellis to open the inning before Ramirez made contact on an awkward, lunging swing for a two-run homer that landed in the first row of the left-field seats. Ramirez also had two doubles, including one that drove in a run in the first. Carpenter recovered to strike out Adrian Gonzalez and Yasiel Puig. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez brought in closer Craig Kimbrel for the final four outs. Kimbrels fastball was clocked at 100 mph when Uribe grounded out to hit the eighth. Kimbrel hit 100 mph again in the ninth when he struck out Skip Schumaker before walking A.J. Ellis. Gordon, running for Ellis, was called out on the close play trying to steal second. Mattingly said after watching a replay he thought Gordon was safe. Said Gordon: "I really dont want to talk about it. You guys saw the replay. ... I felt like everything was good. Simmons blocked the bag and I felt like I got under it. "I need to do better at my job and make sure Im safe next time." Kimbrel walked pinch-hitter Andre Ethier before striking out Crawford to end the game. NOTES: The Dodgers stranded baserunners on first and third in the sixth when Minor struck out Uribe. ... INDIANAPOLIS -- NFL sacks champion Robert Mathis admits he made a mistake late last season. Now its going to cost him -- four games and four paychecks. The Colts career sacks leader was suspended Friday by the NFL after violating the leagues ban on performance-enhancing substances. What exactly Mathis tested positive for remains a mystery but the linebacker said in a statement he was seeking fertility assistance. He acknowledged that he and his wife are expecting a baby. "I am deeply saddened that this situation will prevent me from contributing to my team for four games, and I regret that I didnt cross check what my doctor told me before I took the medication, " Mathis said. "I hope that my fans will understand the unique circumstances involved here and continue to know that I am a man of integrity who would never intentionally circumvent the performance enhancing substance policy agreed to by the NFL and my union." Mathis said Commissioner Roger Goodell denied Mathis request to not issue a suspension based on the circumstances. The league issued a statement Friday night about the case: "As Mr. Mathiss agent acknowledged today, his client failed to follow the protocols in the policy that the NFL and NFLPA agreed upon to address precisely these kinds of claims," the NFL said. "That policy also prescribes the disciplinary consequences of a positive test. The policy does not provide - nor should it provide - for the commissioner to override the policys procedures and assess discipline on an after-the-fact, ad hoc basis. Here Mr. Mathis actually withdrew his appeal and accepted discipline at the unions suggestion. His hearing took place only after the Players Association requested that the appeal be reinstated. "The drug for which Mr. Mathis tested positive is not approved by the FDA for fertility in males and is a performance-enhancing drug that has been prohibited for years. Importantly, Mr. Mathis did not consult with the policys independent administrator, a physician jointly approved by the NFL and NFL Players Association. Nor did he consult with his team doctor, the teams training staff, the NFLPA, the league office or the hotline established under the policy to give confidential information to players. Each of these sources would have warned against using this substance. "A cornerstone of the program is that a player is responsible for what is in his body. Consistent application of the policys procedures is critical to the integrity of the program." If the NFLs decision stands, and they almost always do, Mathis would not be eligible to rejoin the Colts until Sept. 29. He is allowed to participate in the teams off-season workouts, training camp and preseason games. The Colts quickly issued a statement saying they would support Mathis, one of the teams elder statesmen and most respected leaders. Mathis set a single-season record with 19 1/2 sacks last season and also broke Dwight Freeneys franchise career record for sacks. In 11 NFL seasons, Mathis has 111 career sacks. "We nevertheless wish to assure Robert and our fans that he remains an honoured and cherished member of the Colts family and that we support him as he deals with this difficult challenge," Mathis said. Its another black eye for a franchise whose owner, Jim Irsay, was arrested near his suburban Indy home in March and preliminarily charged with four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanour driving while intoxicated charge. Irsay sought medical help two days later and did not return to the team until last weekends draft. Irsay has not spoken publicly about what happened. Mathis was considered an undersized defensive end when the Colts took him in the fifth round of the 2003 draft. It didnt take long, though, for Mathis and Freeney to form one of the NFLs most feared pass-rushing combinations. With Mathis developing his own spin moves to match Freeney, and Freeney developing his own tomahawks chop, imitating Mathis, the two close friends not only put quarterbacks on the ground, they forced fumbles at the leagues highest rate, too. Both emerged as perennial Pro Bowlers, but when they were asked to move to linebacker in new coach Chuck Paganos 3-4 defence, Mathis thrived and Freeney struggled. When the Colts announced last year that they would not re-sign Freeney, many thought Mathis would struggle. Instead, he had the best season of his career and became the first winner of the Deacon Jones Award. Defending that title might be next to impossible in 2014 -- unless he wins an appeal. "We are thrilled that we will be welcoming a new (family) member in several months, but I apologize to my teammates, coaches and Colts fans that I will not be able to contribute to my team for the first four weeks of the 2014 season," Mathis said. "I will work extremely hard during that time to stay in top football shape and will be prepared to contribute immediately upon my return." cheap jerseys from china . -- Rakuten Eagles President Yozo Tachibana says no decision has been made on whether star pitcher Masahiro Tanaka will be made available to Major League Baseball teams. cheap nfl jerseys . -- Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford took a look at the Cowboys assist total against Robert Morris on Monday night and smiled the smile of an old point guard. http://www.chinajerseys.cc/ . ST. JOHNS, N.L. - Craig Cunningham scored a short-handed goal as the Providence Bruins edged the St. Johns IceCaps 3-2 in American Hockey League action Tuesday. The IceCaps equalized when Jerome Samson fired a point shot, which was tipped home by Lowry with lots of traffic in front of the net 4:33 into the second period on the power play. Cunningham scored with a high blocker backhand on a shorthanded breakaway at the 11:10 mark of the third period. Playing their third game in as many days, the Bulldogs were a step behind from the opening faceoff and fell 4-1 to the Chicago Wolves in American Hockey League action. Despite the result, Hamilton head coach Sylvain Lefebvre had only praise for his players, who he believed had left everything on the ice over the course of a marathon weekend. "I think we ran out of gas," said Lefebvre. "We had a very tough, physical game last night, and the guys gave everything they had. "Im proud of that group. They emptied the tank, and theyve given us some pretty good hockey so far and battled right to the end." Dimitrij Jaskin and Mark Cundari both had a goal and an assist for the Wolves (23-15-4), who won their second game in as many days while Tyler Shattock and Joel Edmundson also scored. Matt Climie made 21 saves for the win. Christian Thomas had the lone goal for the Bulldogs (20-18-4) while Robert Mayer stopped 40 shots in defeat. Hamiltons offence sputtered for much of the first period, but manufactured the games first threat 11 minute in when Jordan Owens gathered the puck along the boards and found Jarred Tinordi with a centring pass in the high slot. The defenceman drew a move from Climie as he glided to his left, but snapped his shot just over the crossbar. The Wolves produced the games opening goal after Hamiltons Gabriel Dumont was penalized for interference. Chicago peppered the Bulldogs with point shots on the power play and the final one, courtesy of Brent Regner, took a deflection onto the stick of Jaskin, who easily chipped a shot over the near shoulder of Mayer at 14:25. A costly misplay by Mayer allowed the Wolves to double their lead a minute and a half later. Shattock carried the puck along the right boards and fired a weak wrist shot toward the net with teammates headed to the crease. Mayer stopped the effort, but deflected a rebound into the air, where it clipped a defender and slid past him. Chicagos lead swelled to three goals just 1:28 into the second period, with the two teams playing 4-on-4. A giveaway in the neutral zone sprung Alexandre Bolduc, Adam Cracknell and Edmundson on a three-man break, and Edmundson took the final touch on the right wing and fired aa rising wrist shot past Mayer at the far post.dddddddddddd Less than two minutes later, the Bulldogs responded on what seemed to be a harmless rush. Thomas carried the puck into the offensive zone on the left wing with his linemates alongside him, and launched a long-range wrist shot from the top of the circle that beat Climie over the shoulder at 3:24 of the second period. Hamilton appeared to make it 3-2 when a bizarre bounce off of the glass behind the net had the puck bounce off the back of Climie and into his goal. But Bulldog centreman Maxime Macenauer was judged to have touched the puck with a high stick, and the goal was disallowed. Macenauer sought a review of the play by officials, and argued that the incident could have been pivotal for his team. "It was a really close call," he said. "I felt that (the referees) should have reviewed it. Its probably a high stick, but you never know, because I felt that I might have touched it right below the cross bar. "It would have been 3-2 at that point, and it would have changed the game." A potential turning point avoided, the Wolves increased their lead with a fourth goal at 12:02. Nathan Longpre took possession of the puck below the goal line and found an unmarked Cundari with a centring pass. He reacted quickly to snap a wrist shot over the far shoulder of Mayer. Hamilton defenceman Morgan Ellis fell awkwardly into the boards midway through the period and was slow to return to the bench with an upper-body injury. He stayed on the bench for the remainder of the period, but did not return for the third. Lefebvre had not been briefed on the severity of the injury at the time of writing, but indicated that it would likely hold Ellis out of the lineup for some time. The most promising scoring chance of the third fell to Macenauer, who weaved through Chicagos defence pairing before firing a wrist shot off Climies far post. Still pressing for consolation, the Bulldogs were denied by a highlight-reel worthy save by Climie with six and a half minutes to play. Martin St. Pierre protected the puck on the left wing and threaded a pass cross-ice to Owens, whose one-time shot was snared by the sliding Climie. Chicago went 1 for 6 on the power play while Hamilton failed to score on four chances with the man advantage. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

CONCORD, N.C. -- Sprint Cup points leader Jeff Gordon cut short his practice because of back spasms and the No. 24 team has Regan Smith on standby should the four-time champion not be able to run the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night. Gordon went just 11 laps Saturday before he told his crew he couldnt continue. He left out of a side door of his hauler and was escorted out of the track to get treatment. Crew chief Alan Gustafson said the team would not run the car in the final practice session and instead will get it ready for Sundays race. "Ive had some spasms in the past, but this one, it was a little bit different," said the 42-year-old Gordon. "And so I just want to really be cautious and take care of it. It doesnt do me any good to be in the car right now." Gustafson said the plan was for Gordon to start the longest event in NASCAR. Should the pain be too much, then Smith would take over the Hendrick Motorsports car. Gustafson said Gordon felt back pain after qualifying Thursday night and had hoped things would improve before Saturdays practice sessions. But "after the first run, we talked about it and it was pretty detrimental to him physically to continue," Gustafson said. Gordon said on Twitter he planned to rest and "be ready for 600 miles 2moro." The four-time series champion is having one of the steadiest starts of his career with eight top-10 finishes in the first 11 races. Gordon moved into the points lead following a second-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in early April and hes stayed out front ever since. He cemented his place in the Sprint Cups championship Chase two weeks ago with a victory at Kansas Speedway. Gordon will start 27th and hope his back holds out for 400 laps around the 1.5-mile race track. "Luckily, we had a good 11 laps there and weve got our teammates and information that were going to be able to gather from them," Gordon said. "Its all coming together very fast right now." Gordon has had back spasms in the past and even considered retiring because of the severe pain. Regular treatment has kept the pain mostly in check and Gustafson hopes that will be the case again for Sunday. Doctors "will get him in the best condition he can and get him ready to run tomorrow," Gustafson said. This weeks race marks the 20th anniversary of Gordons first Sprint Cup victory. His crew chief then, Ray Evernham, said Gordon is much tougher than some believe and has raced through illness and pain before. "We won the Southern 500 (at Darlington) when he started throwing up halfway" through the race, said Evernham, currently working for Hendrick Motorsports. Evernham said Gordon believes his car is ready and is being smart by not hurting himself further by practicing. "Hell do everything he needs to do to get to feeling good and I know him and tomorrow night in that car, he may need some help getting out of it, but when hes in it, hes going to be at 100 per cent," Evernham said. SAN FRANCISCO -- Cuban defector Odrisamer Despaigne made fired San Diego general manager Josh Byrnes look good in his sterling major league debut. Despaigne became the fourth Padres pitcher to throw seven scoreless innings in his first big league start, leading San Diego to a 6-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. "He pitched great didnt he?" Padres manager Bud Black asked. "Are you kidding me? That was great." Tommy Medica hit a two-run double off Matt Cain (1-6) after the umpires took away a three-run home run by Yasmani Grandal on a replay review to give the crafty Despaigne (1-0) the support he needed. Despaigne, who defected from Cuba last summer, got the win less than two months after Byrnes signed him to a minor league deal. Byrnes was fired Sunday so he didnt get the chance to benefit from the decision. Despaigne had a 6.03 ERA in seven minor league starts in his first season as a professional after defecting from Cuba last summer. "It took me for surprise to be here," he said through an interpreter. "It was a dream come true." Despaigne kept the Giants off-balance all game by changing his arm angle and mixing in big, slow curveballs with his harder pitches. He allowed four hits and became the seventh pitcher in the past 100 years to throw at least seven scoreless innings with no walks in his first career start. Despaigne had the element of surprise in his favour as the Giants had not even seen him pitch in spring training. "At this point in the year youve kind of seen everything but he was just on," right fielder Hunter Pence said. "He was locating, he had the ball moving a lot of different directions. He threw me pretty much everything. He didnt really leave too much over the plate. I think he just mixed it up the whole game." The Giants lost for the 10th time in 13 games. Neither team had a hit in the first three innings before the Padres got to Cain in the fourth. The rally started when Everth Cabrera reached on a one-out infield single and advanced to third on Seth Smiths single. One out later, Grandal hit a drive to right-centre that initially appeared to clear the wall for a three-run homer. But Pence immediately signalled that a fan interfered on the play and ran toward the umpires to protest. The umpires called for a video review and the play was changed to a double with Smith being sent back to third base even though he most likely would have scored easily from first on a two-out hit to the deepest part of the stadium. Black ran out of the dugout to challenge the ruling and was immediately ejected by crew chief Brian ONora. "I just thought the logical thing to do was have Smitty score," Black said. "I was in disbelief when they placed him at third base." The call became moot when Medica followed with a two-run double to make it 3-0 as Cain struggled once again. The Padres tacked on three runs in the eighth with an RBI single by Cabrera, a run-scoring double to Smith and a throwing error by Pence. Cain allowed six runs and seven hits in 7 1-3 innings and has just one win in 12 starts this season. "Ive been throwing the ball good but I havent been making the pitch that I need to here and there to shut down an inning," Cain said. "I need to do a better job of doing that. I think everything else will work itself out but Ive got to make those pitches." NOTES: There was a pregame video tribute to Padres Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, who died last week at age 54. RALEIGH, N.C. -- No lead was safe for either Pittsburgh or Carolina until James Neal ended a back-and-forth game in overtime. Neal scored at 1:03 of the extra session to lift the Penguins past the Hurricanes 4-3 on Friday night. NHL scoring leader Sidney Crosby had a goal, and Chris Conner and Deryk Engelland each scored in the third period. The Eastern Conference leaders rallied from one goal down in the third period and took a 3-2 lead -- only to let it slip away late in regulation before Neals goal in OT gave them their 13th win in 15 games. "Thats where our team has matured and changed, and I think we regrouped and didnt let it bother us," Neal said. "We come right back and get one." Neal, who also had two assists, ended it by beating Justin Peters with a wrist shot off a slick give-and-go from Jussi Jokinen -- the former Carolina forwards third assist. "When we got our third one, I felt pretty good about it," goalie Marc-Andre Fleury said. "Disappointed to give up that third goal, but it was nice to see (Neal) finish it up for us." Fleury stopped 31 shots in his 500th career game. "Marc was our best player tonight, for sure," coach Dan Bylsma said. Drayson Bowman scored with 2:29 left in regulation. Nathan Gerbe had a goal and an assist, Andrej Sekera scored and Peters finished with 22 saves for the Hurricanes. They let a third-period lead slip away for the second straight game. Carolina also lost its seventh in eight games with four coming in overtime, and fell 20 points behind the Penguins. "When you look back, you feel like you had a really good hockey game," Carolina coach Kirk Muller said. "Its during those first 60 minutes, we had some opportunities to capitalize, and when you dont, youre going to be in tight games and youve got to know how to play with the lead then. Its a very thin line of winning and losing. When you give up a couple of chances and they score, thats the difference." Engelland -- who was playing in his first game since serving a five-game suspension for a check to the head of Detroits Justin Abdelkader -- put a hard shot past Peters with 6:45 left to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead. But Bowman forced overtime when he slipped his late wraparound past Fleury. Engelland was one of a few Penguins making their return to the ice. They also got defenceman Brooks Orpik and forward Tanner Glass back from injuries. Orpik missed eight games with a concussion while Glass was out for the past month with a broken hand. The Penguins tied it at 2 at 1:58 of the third period when Conner slipped a backhand past Peters. That came after Carolina built a 2-1 lead following a wild end to the first period and start to the second. Sekera scored the games first goal in the final moments of the first period, beating both Fleury and the buzzer with a high backhand that was upheld by a brief review that determined that there were 1.3 seconds left. That came about a minute after the Penguins had a goal disallowed because the whistle blew before the puck crossed the line during a pile-up in front of Peters and defenceman Ron Hainsey. Crosby then tied it 16 seconds into the second when he slipped a backhand past Peters for his NHL-best 55th point. But the tie didnt last long -- Gerbe put Carolina back up 14 seconds later by converting on Alexander Semins hard shot. "You cant be afraid to have the lead and play," Muller said. "Youve got to keep playing the way you played the first two periods. You cant sit back. Thats what we tried to emphasize." Matt Read scored two goals, Steve Mason made 36 saves, and the streaking Flyers beat the New York Islanders 5-2 on Saturday night. The Flyers are 10-10-2 after their sixth win in seven games. They are 6-0-1 in that span and 9-3-2 since a 1-7 start. "When we were 1-7, one of our goals was to get to .500," Read said. "We have to continue to build off this and keep going." Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn also had goals for Philadelphia. The Flyers fired coach Peter Laviolette after three straight losses to open the season. Craig Berube took over and went 1-4 before getting things turned around. "Its a great effort by the players," Berube said. "Theyve listened, they believed, they bought in and they work hard." John Tavares and Eric Boulton scored for the Islanders, who have lost eight of 10, including all three games on their road trip. "As coaches, if we were looking at it and it was structurally or systematically, we would change it for sure," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "When you talk about battle level or when you talk about protecting the wall and not protecting the danger area, that to me, you dont change that, thats hockey. Theres nothing you can do about that. "You have to win your battles. Weve played many systems since Ive been here, but systems dont work unless you battle. Im not faulting on the battle level tonight, but a couple of plays we broke down because we were on the wrong side of the puck." After scoring just 22 goals in their first 15 games, the Flyers have 26 in the last seven. They netted their first three goals against the Islanders in a bunch. Read and Simmonds scored 59 seconds apart to put the Flyers ahead 2-0 early in the second period. Giroux made it three goals in 3:02 for a 3-0 lead. "Were playing better, but we have a long way to go," Giroux said. "Everybody is contributing. Its a lot more fun." Read scored his third goal in two games with a slap shot from the slot off passes from Sean Couturier and Steve p;Downie.dddddddddddd The trio, the Flyers third line, has combined for 13 points in three games. "They work hard as a line, they dont get out of position and they play the system to a tee," Berube said. Simmonds then took a pass from Vincent Lecavalier on a rush up ice and wristed a shot that beat goalie Kevin Poulin to the short side over his glove. Giroux scored a power-play goal with a one-timer from the left circle off a behind-the-back pass from Simmonds. That goal ended Poulins night. He was lifted for Anders Nilsson. After the Islanders got within 3-2, Schenn scored with 7:39 left to give the Flyers a two-goal cushion. Schenn lifted a shot over Nilssons glove just under the crossbar. Read scored an empty-net goal in the final minute to seal it. Despite playing their second game in two nights, the Islanders -- following Fridays loss at Pittsburgh -- made the Flyers look like a tired team in the third period. "The second half of the game, I think we were the better team," Nilsson said. "I think as long as we can play like that for the full 60 minutes then we can win some more hockey games." Tavares scored on a backhander off a perfect pass from Thomas Vanek to cut it to 3-1 late in the second. It was just the second even-strength goal allowed by the Flyers in seven games. Boulton scored his first goal in 73 games to get the Islanders within one goal 2:39 into the third. Boulton was alone in front when the puck trickled through off a faceoff, and he backhanded it past Mason. Tavares had a chance to tie it a few minutes later but Mason made the save. The Islanders had several chances before Berube called a timeout and calmed his team down. "We were on our heels, but we did what we needed to do to get the win," Berube said. NOTES: The Islanders, 14-6-4 on the road last season, are now 3-9 away from home this season. ... The Flyers are 16-1-2 at home vs. the Islanders since the 2007-08 season. ... LIVERPOOL, England - Adam Lallana netted twice as Liverpool founds its scoring form to beat Swansea 4-1 Monday for its biggest Premier League home victory of the season. After Alberto Moreno put Liverpool ahead in the 33rd minute, Lallanas first goal came with a bit of luck as Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski hit a clearance straight at the midfielder, and the ball bounced off his shoulder and looped into the net to make it 2-0 in the 51st.Gylfi Sigurdsson replied for Swansea just a minute later, but Lallana restored the two-goal cushion by going around two defenders and slotting a low shot inside the far post in the 61st.Jonjo Shelvey headed in an own-goal in the 69th, giving Liverpool four goals in a game for the first time this season. The 2014 NHL draft class can be forgiven for feeling as though it has a case of middle-child syndrome. Which is to say, the top of this years draft class is not as dynamic or exciting as the 2013 class of Nate MacKinnon, Sasha Barkov, Jonathan Drouin and Seth Jones and its not as strikingly promising as the highly-anticipated 2015 slate of Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin. But it would be a disservice to damn Aaron Ekblad, Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett, Leon Draisaitl and Michael Dal Colle with faint praise. "They are all very good prospects, theyre all going to play in the NHL, they all should turn out to be very good players for a long time," one NHL scout said. But the draft is all about projection. And where MacKinnon, Barkov and Drouin were projected as first-line forwards and Jones was projected a likely No. 1 defenceman – destined for greatness -- this years crop of forwards is projected more as second liners with defenceman Ekblad perhaps getting "top pairing" billing though not necessarily a future dynamic No. 1. Good, maybe very good, but not necessarily great. The draft is also about question marks and, according to the scouts, even the elite picks this year have a few. And once one gets outside the top five of this years draft, question marks really abound. "There are some really talented kids in this draft, and not just at the top either," an NHL scout said, "but I dont recall a year recently when there were as many question marks. Skilled kids who lack size; players who might have issues with attitude or commitment. It seems to be a really volatile draft. Good luck trying to figure out this one." That said, in the eyes of the scouts, at the top, its rock solid, and, really, it has been all season long. Barrie Colt defenceman Aaron Ekblad is No. 1 on TSNs Top 60 Final Rankings for the 2014 draft, a position hes owned or had a share of since last September. Seven of the 10 scouts surveyed by TSN to compile the rankings had Ekblad at No. 1. No scout surveyed had him outside of the top three. Only two other prospects got first-place votes. No. 2-ranked Sam Reinhart, a centre with the Kootenay Ice, had one and No. 3-ranked Sam Bennett, a centre with the Kingston Frontenacs, had two. "The difference between the top guys this year is not significant," a scout said. "Thats why youre hearing more talk of teams drafting with position in mind." To say nothing of those question marks. For example, as good as the 6-foot-4, 216-pound Ekblad is, some scouts wonder if he an upside greater than being a steady, reliable two-way defender. Is there a dynamic quality there that is usually associated with a potential first overall pick? Barrie head coach Dale Hawerchuk, a former NHL star, doesnt know about dynamic, but he does know impactful, because thats what Ekblad has been from the moment he showed up to Barrie as a 15-year-old who was granted exceptional status by Hockey Canada to enter the OHL a year early. "Hes been a top pair, shutdown defenceman who played against the best players in our league from the day he got here," Hawerchuk said, "and theres no doubt in my mind, none whatsoever, that hes going to be a really good top pair, shutdown defenceman who plays against the best players in the NHL. Hes been impactful since Day 1. He does it all and he does it all consistently and hes going to be a 15 to 20 year top-pair NHL defenceman." This years top prospects earn rave reviews for some specific trait or quality, but the praise is accompanied by a question. Reinharts hockey sense, for example, is widely hailed, elite level, as good as it gets. But will his average speed and size put a second-line ceiling on him or reduce his effectiveness against men? Bennetts complete game – equal parts skill, smarts, spirit, edge and work ethic – is lauded but can an average size centre translate that style to the NHL against men? No. 4-ranked Leon Draisaitl, the Prince Albert Raiders German-born and –trained centre, has a big NHL frame and can make plays but will the lack of a dynamic step keep him from being a first-liner? No. 5-ranked Michael Dal Colle, the Oshawa Generals rangy winger who is equally adept at shooting or making plays, but will his play without the puck be an issue? And yet, for all the questions being asked, scouts concede these five are all good NHL prospects with a strong likelihood of having long NHL careers. But there is a high degree – higher than usual – of subjectivity this year. Nowhere is that more evident than in the players, ranked Nos. 6 through 10 on TSNs list. No. 6-ranked Nick Ritchie, the Peterborough Pete winger, has all the physical tools to be the consummate scoring power forward but theres been a lot of immaturity, inconsistency as well as some injuries in his game. No. 7-ranked Jake Virtanen, the Calgary Hitmen winger, is another who has all the tools to be a scoring power forward but some scouts are a little wary because he tends to get tunnel vision when he has the puck. No. 8-ranked Haydn Fleury, the Red Deer Rebel defenceman, has the size and speed scouts love but he has not established himself as either an offensive defenceman or a punishing defenceman. No. 9-ranked William Nylander, the Canadian-born, Swedish-trained winger, may be the most skilled player in the entire draft class, but scouts worry about a stubborn streak that has often seen him play a more individual than team game. No. 10-ranked Nikolaj Ehlers, the Halifax Mooseheads Danish winger, was as prolific as any prospect this year, scoring 49 goals and 104 points in 67 games, and theres no doubting his skill level, but hes listed at 160 pounds, or as one scout put it, "he has to put on 20 pounds to be considered small." "Its a funny draft," a scout said. "A kid like Ritchie, with his size and skill, or Nylander, with his skill level, could one day be the best of this class but theres some real risk associated with these guys. What if Ritchie doesnt get fully committed to being as good as he can be? What if Nylander just decides hes going to play like hes the only guy on the ice?" Thats always a theme in any draft, but this year it seems to be even more prevalent earlier than ever involving more prospects than usual. Size is certainly on the mind of a lot of teams, especially after the very large Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup. Whether anyone likes it or not, thats the standard by which players are now judged. "I look at these kids and I try to project them playing against the Los Angeles Kings one day," a scout said. "Can they play that game at that level?" Even that exercise can be fraught with peril because two of those outstanding Kings – Tanner Pearson, who went 30th overall in the 2012 draft, and Tyler Toffoli, who went 47th overall in 2010 – were passed over by many teams in their respective draft year because they were perceived as too slow or too weak or too incomplete or too flawed. Go figure. Guelph centre Robby Fabbri (No. 14 on TSNs list) scored 45 goals for the Storm in the regular season, was the OHLs playoff MVP and plays a hard-nosed game for a 5-foot-10 pivot, but will he stand up to the L.A. King litmus test? Ditto for smallish Swiss forward Kevin Fiala, No. 15 on the TSN list, though Fiala had the benefit of playing against men in both the Swedish League and for Switzerland at the World Championships. But no two players represent the uncertain quality of this years draft like the 30th and 31st-ranked Josh Ho Sang of the Windsor Spitfires and Anthony DeAngelo of the Sarnia Sting. Ho Sang is an electrifying, highly-skilled albeit undersized skilled forward who has some very firm ideas on how the game of hockey should be played and how he should play it. First-round talent? Absolutely. Will a team step up and take him in the first round? Thats the fascinating aspect of this draft. So much natural talent; so many question marks. "The question with Ho Sang is whether he wants to be a hockey player or he wants to be an artist or an entertainer," one scout said. "When he plays the give and go game, hes effective and dangerous but a lot of the time he only wants to go, theres no give (the puck to anyone else). Is he going to figure it out? Because if he does, the skills he has…" DeAngelos situation, though, takes it to another level of uncertainty. The American blueliner is undersized at 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, but he put up 15 goals and 71 points in 51 games for Sarnia. Imagine how many more points he would have registered if he hadnt been suspended on three separate occasions this season for either violating the OHLs diversity policy or verbally abusing an on-ice official or, as fate would have it, both. In December of 2013, DeAngelo was suspended five games for violating the leagues diversity policy in a verbal spat with an on-ice official. In January of 2014, he received an eight-game suspension for violating the leagues diversity policy in a verbal exchange with a teammate. Five games after returning from that eight-game suspension, he was suspended two games for (verbal) abuse of an official. Many scouts dont know what to make of DeAngelo. The vast majority of them say the north New Jersey kid, wholl effectively be at "home" for this weeks NHL draft in Philadelphia, is (in spite of size concerns) a first-round talent, a smart, mobile and offensively gifted blueliner. "Look at the talented small defencemen and where theyve been taken in the draft, guys like Ryan Ellis, Ryan Murphy, Derrick Pouliot, even Erik Karlsson," a scout said. "DeAngelo should, on talent, be taken in that 10 to 20 range but Im not sure he will be because of the other stuff." Some of the scouts surveyed by TSN said they wouldnt take DeAngelo at all. Others said he would be a consideration in the second round – talent like that is hard to pass – but a couple did say they wouldnt rule out considering him in the first round. "If you read stuff that people write, I think they go overboard with it because they dont know the details," DeAngelo told the Camden Courier Post. "They think I have character issues. I dont think I have character issues." Interestingly, USA Hockey chose to not invite DeAngelo to its summer evaluation camp for the 2015 U.S. national junior team. Of all the stories in what is expected to be an unpredictable draft, DeAngelos is bound to be one of the most compelling. Hes expected to have upwards of 100 friends and family in attendance Friday night and whether hes chosen or not in the first round will be an intriguing storyline. Getting consensus for the TSN rankings was never more difficult than this year. Outside of perhaps the top 35 to 40, there was no real consensus. Even within the top 30 in the first round, there was a far greater variance from player to player than ever before. TSNs rankings do not take into account the teams order of selection; theres no allowance made for a teams personal or positional preference. These rankings are not so much an evaluation of which players will one day turn into the best NHLers as it is a forecast of what order in the draft this Friday and Saturday these players will reasonably be chosen. The list is determined on a mostly objective formula based on numerical rankings assigned by the scouts interviewed by TSN. cheap nfl jerseys . He did it with a track record. The five-time NASCAR champion turned a lap of 139.222 mph in his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet on Friday to break the mark of 138.766 set by Kyle Busch last November. "Track records are awesome," Johnson said after Fridays qualifying session. "I dont qualify on pole all that often, so I take great pride in them, especially track records. Very cool to do, and clearly a great time in the season and a great time in the Chase." Matt Kenseth, who trails Johnson by seven points in the standings, will start 14th Sunday in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. He knows he has a lot of work ahead of him this weekend in making his car better, and then trying to catch Johnson on Sunday. "This track in the spring was extremely hard to pass at, probably one of the toughest tracks that we go to and I dont know if it will be any better or not this time," Kenseth said. "Pit strategy was all basically the same the last time we were here. So, unless you have cautions fall funny, I dont know if youll be able to do it on pit strategy. I think youre going to have to have a good balance, good speed, you have to be able to pass, have to have good pit stops, all these things. "I dont feel its a track where youre going to get a whole bunch of free ones from a strategy call. I think youre going to have to be good all day." Denny Hamlin qualified second with a lap at 139.023 for JGR, but he went out much later in Fridays session than teammate Kenseth. Joey Logano qualified third in a Penske Racing Ford, and Kyle Busch was fourth as both of Kenseths teammates out-qualified the title contender. Both HHamlin and Logano marveled at Johnsons performance.dddddddddddd "Hes been in kill mode for a while," Logano said. "When they are running for that championship, they find that extra notch that a lot of other teams cant find." Johnson is coming off a dominating performance last week at Texas, where he led 255 of the 334 laps to win his sixth race of the season and break a tie with Kenseth in the standings. "Last week, I ran second to him for a while and just to see the speed in his car -- and then he unloads today and you watch in practice how fast his car was," Logano said. "Hes got that next notch and hes going really fast right now." Hamlin, who lost the title to Johnson in 2010, said it was inevitable for Johnson to hit his stride. "Everyone in the garage knew they could turn it up at will, and this is typically the time of the year that they start doing that, especially when they are in championship contention," Hamlin said, adding that Johnson would have to have an off day for Kenseth to have a shot at winning the title. "And when I say off, hes going to have to finish fifth or sixth to give Matt an honest shot at beating him," Hamlin said. "You already know this weekend is pretty much crossed off as being an off weekend." Johnson said he doesnt think the No. 48 team is doing anything different. "Its hard when you are inside of it, inside the car, inside the team, to know what the difference is, because we are doing the same stuff," Johnson said. "But when I look around at what other champions do to do win, they always find a way to find a little more. Somehow we are doing that, yes, I recognize that, but its not a concerted effort. Its not something we are doing any differently. We are trying to rise up to the pace of (Kenseth) and beat him." cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

Anze Kopitar scored 5:29 into the first period to help Slovenia beat Austria 4-0 on Tuesday in the qualification round of the Sochi Olympics, extending the experience of playing for his father in international competition. The Olympic hockey rookies will face top-seeded and 2006 Olympic champion Sweden on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Kopitar, who plays for the Los Angeles Kings, is the only NHL player on the Slovenia squad. His father, Matjaz, is the national teams coach. Robert Kristan had a 30-save shutout for the Slovenes, and he got plenty of support offensively. Jan Urbas scored a short-handed goal midway through the first period, and Sabahudin Kovacevics slap shot put Slovenia up 3-0 early in the second. Austria called timeout late in the game to add an extra skater and Slovenias Jan Mursak took advantage with an empty-net goal. The Austrians lost their first two games by a combined score of 14-4 to Finland and Canada before beating Norway 3-1 in their final game of the preliminary round. Their goaltender, Mathias Lange, made 31 saves. Kopitar beat him with a shot from the slot early in the game, and that proved to be the only goal the feel-good team needed to keep playing in the tournament it wasnt expected to be in a little more than a year ago. Slovenia earned a surprising spot in the Sochi Games by knocking off Belarus, Ukraine and Denmark in last years qualification tournament. It was an impressive accomplishment for a hockey team ranked 17th in the world from a nation with fewer than 2 million people, only seven hockey rinks and only one professional team. Instead of being just satisfied to be here, Slovenia beat usually steady Slovakia 3-1 in the preliminary round. Austria, meanwhile, is eliminated with one victory and three lopsided losses. Slovenia got two key players back in the playoff round. Kopitar didnt finish the previous game against the U.S. because of flu-like symptoms. Kovacevic was suspended for the previous game for hitting Slovakia forward Tomas Kopecky in the head with his left elbow in a game last week. Manu Ginobili Spurs Jersey ... It took 22 seconds for DeRozan to get on the board, taking a lob pass from Joakim Noah and converting the easy layup before knocking down his next two shots. For the Raptors fifth-year guard, this moment was one he had been dreaming about for a long time but to his credit, he never looked out of place. "Honestly, I wasnt nervous at all," he told TSN.ca after scoring eight points in 15 minutes of action for the victorious Eastern Conference squad. "I thought I was going to be nervous before the game but as soon as I went out there I wasnt nervous at all." "It didnt feel like there was any pressure, like you were playing in front of all these people. They just made it fun, honestly. I didnt have no jitters." After a lackluster slate of Saturday night events, the big show did not disappoint. Combined, 318 points were scored - an All-Star record - with the East defeating the West by a score of 163-155. The frenetic pace fit DeRozans game like a glove. "All we do is get out and run, wings get out and run, push it," he said. "Its an opportunity to get fast-break dunks, layups, sorts of things like that so it fits well for a player like me." The East overcame an 18-point deficit, closing out the night on a 10-0 run to win for the first time in four years. Their 163 points were the most scored in an All-Star Game. DeRozans All-Star experience has been surreal. From watching his young teammates Jonas Valanciunas and Terrence Ross compete in the Rising Stars Challenge and the Slam Dunk Contest - both events that he has participated in himself - to sharing the bench with former a teammate and nine-time All-Star Chris Bosh on Sunday, hes had to pinch himself on more than one occasion. It didnt hit him until Sunday evening, as he arrived at Smoothie King Center, walked in the locker room and saw a row of All-Star jerseys instead of his usual Raptors duds.dddddddddddd. "Theres only a select few that get to put on the All-Star jersey," he realizes. That experience of being among them and gaining the respect that accompanies the All-Star tag - which hell wear next to his name for the duration of his career and beyond - was far more valuable than the 15 minutes he logged in the game. "It was a great experience, man," he said. "Just going out there and having fun with the leagues best, to be in that same category is great." It may have been his first appearance in the leagues midseason classic, but the Raptors leading scorer is determined not to make it his last. "[I have to] work harder than I did this previous summer to be a better player," said DeRozan, who is averaging a career-best 22.4 points this season. "I cant slow down. Now Im a target. Players are going to go at me and understand that Ive got the All-Star next to my name. Just continue working, dont be complacent with anything and keep pushing." Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving - a controversial selection when he was voted in as a starter by the fans last month - took home game MVP honours after scoring 31 points to go along with 14 assists. He was a perfect 11-for-11 from inside the three-point arch, many of those field goals were layups. "How Kyrie makes his layups is amazing," DeRozan said of his Eastern Conference teammate. "You cant deny [him] when he gets to the basket; you cant play him a certain way because he can finish with either hand, off either leg and hes so creative with it. It was cool to see him go out and play." Sunday was a night of broken records for both sides. Carmelo Anthony, who had 30 points for the East, connected on eight three pointers, most in an All-Star Game. Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin had 38 points apiece for the West, coming just shy of Wilt Chamberlains mark of 42. 10 of Griffins All-Star Game record 19 field goals were dunks. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland Athletics have traded left-hander Tommy Milone to the Minnesota Twins for outfielder Sam Fuld. The As announced the deal Thursday morning before the trade deadline. Milone requested a trade given his recent success and demotion to Triple-A Sacramento. The left-hander went 6-0 with a 2.62 ERA over 11 starts when he was sent down July 5 following the trade for Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Cubs. Fuld began the season with Oakland. The As liked Fuld coming out of spring training but designated him for assignment April 12. The Twins claimed him off waivers eight days later. He and newly acquired Jonny Gomes are likely to compete for time in left field after Yoenis Cespedes was traded to Boston for left-hander Jon Lester and Gomes. Jamal Crawford Jersey . Sean Monahan scored two goals, including the overtime winner, as the Flames snapped a two-game losing skid with a 2-1 victory over the Oilers in a game between two of the NHLs current lesser lights. Paul Byron won a battle behind the net with Edmonton defender Martin Marincin 1:50 into the overtime session and sent the puck in front to Monahan, who scored his 18th goal of the season. "In overtime (Byron) was just buzzing all over the puck and made a great pass to me which fortunately enough I was able to bury," Monahan said. "I was surprised that I had so much room. That was pretty awesome. That is my first overtime goal in the NHL." Flames captain Mark Giordano said that Monahan has become a real go-to guy. "One thing we have learned about (Monahan) is that he doesnt miss too many of those chances around the net," he said. "He has a knack for putting those ones in. Good on him. I am happy for him." The Flames (23-30-7) have won seven of their last 10 games. David Perron responded for the Oilers (20-34- who have lost three in a row and sit in second last in the NHL, five points back of fourth-worst Calgary. "In our own zone for the most part, I thought we were alright," said Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins. "The last goal was just a great lesson for our defencemen there. You have to win the battle. Its a simple battle and thats what happens when you lose a battle like that, especially four-on-four." One especially troubling area for the Oilers of late has been the power play, which has now gone 0-19 in Edmontons last six games. "On the power play were having troubles entering and were having troubles finishing," said Oilers forward Jordan Eberle. "On the one power play there, we must have had four or five chances and we couldnt capitalize. When that starts to happen, that starts to wear on you and you start doubting yourself. "For me personally the biggest thing with our lack of offence, and we seem to go through it every season, is that our power play is dead." The Flames started the scoring just past the midmark of the opening period as Monahan was left alone in front of the net to coral a bouncing rebound and the Flames rookie sent the puck past Oilers starting goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. The goal was immediately followed by a heated tilt between Edmontons Luke Gazdic and Calgarys Kevin Westgarth, with Gazdic landing a punch that floored Westgarth to the point that he had to be helped off the ice and to the dressing room. "It was a good fight and both guys were throwing good punches," Giordano said. "At the end of the day you care about the person and it is hard to see something like that. Hopefully he recovers quickkly and can get back in the lineup.dddddddddddd. "He is feeling alright now, which is good to see." Edmonton came close to tying the game just over a minute later when a puck landed behind goalie Reto Berra in the Calgary crease, but was quickly fished out and sent to safety by Giordano. The solid pace of the first period dropped off during a sloppy second period as Edmonton outshot the Flames by just a 5-3 margin in the scoreless middle frame. Calgary almost added to its lead seven minutes into the third period but a Giordano shot rang off the post. The Oilers tied the game just before the midway point of the third as Perron emerged from the sideboards with the puck and fired a laser past Berra for his team-leading 23rd of the season. It was the first goal Edmonton had scored in just shy of 160 minutes of play, extending back to before the Olympic break. Edmonton picked up the pace for the remainder of the third, but the Flames held on to send the game to extra time to set up the victory. Calgary has broken the remainder of the regular season into a pair of seven-game segments to approximate playoff series and with that in mind, Monahan said it was an important victory for the team coming off their eighth shutout of the season in a 2-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings in their return from the Olympic break on Thursday. "It was kind of a must-win game for us," he said. "It was pretty intense. After (Westgarth) goes to war like he did, you have to find a way to win. Fortunately enough we did. We just want to win as many games as we can at this point." The Flames return to action on Monday as they travel to Minnesota to face the Wild. The Oilers play the third game of a five-game homestand on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators. Notes: Calgary was shutout 2-0 by the L.A. Kings in its return to action from the Olympic break, while the Oilers were blanked 3-0 by the Minnesota Wild earlier in the week. The two Alberta-based teams are tied for the most shutouts allowed this season with eight apiecea. It was the fourth of five games between the Oilers and Flames this season. Edmonton came into the game with a 2-0-1 record in the previous three meetings and had won six of the last nine games between the two teams overalla The Oilers were without forward Nail Yakupov, who took a shot from teammate Justin Schultz off the foot in Thursdays loss to the Wild. While nothing was broken, there is no timetable for Yakupovs returna Flames defenceman Chris Butler was a surprise starter after suffering an injury versus the Kings. Brian McGrattan, nursing an upper-body injury sustained in practice last week, has been cleared for contact but didnt play. Also out for Calgary were goaltender Karri Ramo (lower body) and forward Curtis Glencross (lower body)a Calgary forward Lee Stempniak took the game off to be with his wife after the birth of twin daughters on Friday. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

RALEIGH, N.C. – You could hear a pin drop in the visitors dressing room at PNC Arena after yet another blowout defeat. "I think the talking has to stop," said Jay McClement with evident frustration. "Weve talked all year all about all these things and were just not getting the job done. Nothing seems to be changing. Were just still very inconsistent with our efforts. Somethings got to change. I think weve done so much talking, we just need a little more action." The Maple Leafs lost their third straight and 20th in the past 31 games on Thursday night, blown out 6-1 by the surging Hurricanes. Months of brewing trouble saw the club finally knocked out of a playoff position for the first time all season, now 10th in the Eastern Conference. "I think were searching for answers and thats the hard part," Mason Raymond said. "Its a cliché, but were the only ones that are going to get ourselves out of this mess." It was more of the same from a wildly inconsistent, unpredictable group that has just five wins in regulation since the start of November and not one during that span on the road. The Leafs have been outscored 18-5 during this most recent three-game slide, an "exclamation point" in the words of Randy Carlyle, for the ills of a troubled hockey club. Just when it appears, however, that a low point has been reached does another disastrous performance occur, this one to a Carolina squad that has now won five straight. "We stood around for most of the hockey game tonight," said a noticeably deflated and dejected Carlyle afterward. "For whatever reason that nobody seems to have an answer to right now is were doing things standing still. Were watching teams skate and were not engaged in the hockey game to a level that is required to give yourself a chance for success." Carlyle urged his group to play with more tenacity and bite in recent days, something more in wake of a season veering dangerously off course. But aside from a late and rather meaningless push, he didnt get it. The urgency and intensity remained mysteriously absent as domino after domino toppled over on the ice in Raleigh. "Theres no excuse why we dont compete every night," said McClement. "Thats something that has to be there every night. Youre not going to win every night, but the effort and the compete has to be there every night. Theres no excuse for that." It was yet another mess in a season thats had too many to count already. An identity-less team to this point, the Leafs are searching for answers on how to right the wrongs of a season thats teetering closer and closer to the edge of something perilous. The problem is, these troubles have been brewing for the better part of the season with little to no change in performance. These are tough times in Toronto with no readily apparent end in sight. "It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that things arent going anywhere near what our expectations are, thats for sure," said Carlyle. Five Points 1. Pushing the Message Preaching for improvement all year, but especially in recent days, Carlyle wouldnt cast the full weight of whats taken place onto the shoulders of his players alone, but what has to be distressing for the head coach and his staff is how few results the message has yielded. Nothing, it seems, has been able to lift the Leafs from a year-long funk. "Theyre not an island out there," he said before Thursdays game. "We dont put our players on an island. We think its very improper to put our players in a situation to say that we dont support them. We support our players to the utmost. And we look back to the players because theyre the ones that are out there doing it. Theyre the ones that are out there sacrificing. Theyre the ones that are out there putting on the performance." Carlyle said that his staffs role is one of guidance. "Were just in a position to try and guide them as a coaching staff. Theres different ways to guide. Weve tried numerous ways to stimulate our group to play a much more competitive brand of hockey. Well continually push for more of that." 2. Reimers First Start in 19 Days Questioned before the game on how he managed to stay sharp with a long layoff – 19 days – between starts, James Reimer, as is the norm, found the bright side. "Its just good preparation for the Olympic break, I guess," he said with a grin. Reimer had no chance yet again in his first start since Dec. 21, on the hook for all six goals in the 6-1 defeat. "Our goaltenders are strung out and left hanging high and dry if you look where the quality of the scoring chances are coming from, theyre coming from that critical area," said Carlyle. "You cant continually give those chances up." Leaf goaltenders were frequently heroic in the opening half of the season, despite inflated shot totals, but have understandably buckled under helpless conditions recently. Reimer and Jonathan Bernier own a .846 save percentage during this most recent three-game slide. "You just want to hang in there and keep it as close as you can so that you can give the boys a chance," said Reimer, who dropped to 4-2-1 lifetime against Carolina. 3. Gardiner Scratched For the second time this season, Jake Gardiner landed as a healthy scratch. Carl Gunnarsson returned from an elbow injury, while Mark Fraser was inserted into the lineup for just the second time in 12 games as Carlyle shook up the defence. "We felt that Jake has struggled in the last couple games," said Carlyle, "his puck movement and decisions with the puck and we felt had a better option in the other two guys at this point with the way our mix was put together." 4. Phaneufs Production Recently signed to a seven-year extension, Dion Phaneufs offensive production has dipped this season, his fifth with the Leafs. Phaneuf totaled a hearty nine goals and 28 points in 48 games in 2013 – a pro-rated 15 goals and 47 points – adding 12 goals and 44 points in 2011-12. But just beyond the midway point this year and the 28-year-old has just four goals and 17 points, an eight-goal and 33-point pace. "I feel good about my game and the way that Ive played," he told the Leaf Report generally on Thursday morning, "But the bottom line is individual seasons dont matter. It matters about team success and weve got to be better as a team and we know that." One area of admitted focus and needed improvement for Phaneuf is the number of pucks directed to the net. He leads the team with 75 shots, but is on pace for a career-low in shots per game, way down from the numbers he accumulated previously. Season Shots Per Game 13-14 1.76 13 1.83 11-12 2.46 10-11 2.88 09-10 2.78 08-09 3.46 07-08 3.21 06-07 2.91 05-06 2.95 5. Ashton, Holland Trade Places The Leafs deemed Wednesday that Peter Hollands progression wasnt being served by remaining on the fourth line, where hes been slotted since the return of Tyler Bozak. They opted to send the 22-year-old to the Marlies, recalling Carter Ashton, who has strung together 15 points in 14 AHL games this season. "He wasnt going to play on the top two lines," Carlyle said of Holland, who had eight points during a 10-game stretch with Bozak out. "We felt it was probably hurting his development curve to leave him as a fourth-line centre." The challenge for the 22-year-old Ashton meanwhile is translating the success hes attained in the minors into something substantial in the NHL. Ashton has just one assist in 33 games with the Leafs, offering only fleeting glimpses of readiness in a bottom-six role. "A young player that has got size and skill and the ability to skate and protect the puck at the American League level doesnt always translate to that in the NHL," said Carlyle. "Its much more difficult, obviously. Youve got a lot less time and space and [youre] playing against bigger and stronger men. We think that hes continually showed some progress." A natural winger, Ashton slotted into the fourth line centre spot against the Hurricanes and barely played, totaling just under four minutes. Hamilton fought back twice from a goal down, before riding a strong third period to 4-2 victory over Toronto in American Hockey League action. "It shows character to fight back the way that we did," said Hamilton winger Sven Andrighetto. "You always want to play with the lead instead of chasing. But we showed what we can do tonight." Mike Blunden scored twice for the Bulldogs (14-14-4) while Andrighetto and Martin St. Pierre added the others. Dustin Tokarski made 20 saves in the win. Carter Ashton and Sam Carrick scored for the Marlies (16-10-3), while Drew MacIntyre stopped 45 shots. Bulldogs head coach Sylvain Lefebvre had praise for MacIntyre, who faced 89 Hamilton shots over the course of the teams home-and-home series on Thursday and Friday. "The last two games have been full of scoring chances," said Lefebvre. "It was an enigma, trying to solve MacIntrye. But we kept shooting pucks at the net and kept driving it." The first quality scoring chance of the night fell to the Bulldogs three minutes into the opening period, when Gabriel Dumont held the puck in the left circle and tested MacIntyre with a low wrist shot before chasing his own rebound. It would be the Marlies who struck first, however, after Bulldog captain St. Pierre was whistled for charging at 4:59. Torontos Spencer Abbott shifted the puck to Greg McKegg, who found Ashton in the low slot with a centring pass. Ashton drifted out to the top of the slot, turned and fired a rising wrist shot that beat Tokarski just inside the near post at 6:27. Hamilton used successful cycling to produce a tying goal early in the second period. Dumont fought off a defender behind the net and circled out front, shovelling a backhanded shot along the ice that MacIntyre kicked to his left. But Blunden spotted the rebound as it slid through the crease, and quickly reacted to slot it in at 3:45. Special teams were a difference-maker for Toronto once again as the Marlies counter-attacked on the pennalty kill to retake the lead at 9:20.dddddddddddd Carrick latched onto a loose puck in the neutral zone and carried it into the Hamilton zone, where Blunden was the last line of defence. The Bulldog made an ill-advised attempt to hit Carrick, and the Marlie dodged him and skated in on Tokarski, flipping a high shot over the sliding goaltender. Having been burned on the defensive end, Blunden redeemed himself in the offensive zone to level the game once more. Maxime Macenauer carried the puck into the zone along the left wing, and spun to create space before sliding a backhanded shot toward MacIntyre. The goaltender turned aside the initial chance, but Blunden pounced on the loose puck to fire home his second goal of the night at 14:06. Lefebvre was glad to see Blunden rewarded for his hard work. "Blunden has been a horse for us all year so far," said the coach. "To see him get two goals tonight is great, because hes been working really hard and the goals dont come as naturally for him as they do for natural snipers. "But hes been there and been killing penalties. Hes been the forward that Ive used the most and hes there every night banging and crashing the net." The Bulldogs enjoyed a strong second period, and outshot the Marlies 34-14 through 40 minutes of play. Hamiltons momentum carried into the third period, where the Bulldogs struck almost immediately to take their first lead of the game. A stretch pass by Nathan Beaulieu sprung Patrick Holland and Andrighetto on a 2-on-1 break, with the former carrying the puck into the offensive zone and faking a shot before sliding a pass across to Andrighetto. The rookie winger made no mistake, firing a high wrist shot over the shoulder of MacIntyre and just inside the crossbar at 1:38. St. Pierre struck with 45 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach. With the Bulldogs cycling the puck on the power play, Andrighetto threaded a short pass to St. Pierre along the right boards. He faked and then fired a low slapshot that beat MacIntyre through traffic. Hamilton defeated Toronto 2-1 in a shootout on Sunday and lead the season series 5-2-1. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Rookie Ty Dillon became a first-time race winner in the Nationwide Series after passing Kyle Busch for the lead late in the race and then holding off Busch in the closing laps in Saturdays Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Dillon, the 22-year-old grandson of NASCAR multi-team owner Richard Childress and younger brother of Sprint Cup Series rookie Austin Dillon, pulled ahead of Busch and took the lead for the first time following a restart on lap 77. The driver of the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing ran in front for the final 24 laps around this historic 2.5-mile racetrack to claim his maiden win in Nationwide, which occurred in his 31st career start. When you got the best guy in the business [Busch] behind you, its tough, Dillon said. Its tough to stay focused and not give up. Dillon also collected a $100,000 bonus from series title sponsor Nationwide Insurance for being the highest finisher among the four drivers eligible for the Dash 4 Cash at Indianapolis. The emotions are incredible, he said. I came here [to Indy] two years ago and finished third in my second Nationwide race ever. Theres just something about this place that feels right to me. I feel comfortable. I dont know what it is. But the main thing was [crew chief] Danny Stockman Jr. gave me a car that I felt like I could go out there and win with from the moment we unloaded. He put me in a position to win, and we did it. I wasnt going to let this thing go. I wasnt going to let it slip. My guys have gone through some hard stuff this year, and they havent given up on me. So I was definitely going to give them all I had. Dillon had scored 11 top-10 finishes in the first 17 Nationwide races in 2014 but had not posted a top-five run this season until last weekends event at Chicagoland. It was really cool to see him win, Childress said of his grandsons victory at Indianapolis. Hes had a tough year this year. Hes had some close runs. But to come up here and win at Indy and race with the guys that he was racing with, it was a great day for RCR, Ty Dillon and the whole family. Dillon competed in the Camping World Truck Series full-time from 2012-13, winning three races. He graduated to Nationwide this season, replacing his brother in the No. 3 car for RCR. Austin Dillon won last years Nationwide championship and then moved on to Sprint Cup competition. Busch, a Sprint Cup regular and winner of the 2013 Nationwide race at Indy, tried to catch Dillon during the final laps but came up 0.8 seconds short at the finish. Busch started on the pole and led just 10 laps in this event. In last years race here, he started first and led 92 of 100 laps. Its unfortunate that we werent as good as we were last year, Busch said. I thought we were, but we werent. Maybe it was the cloud cover today, or whatever. I dont know. Felt that we would be better than that, and we just werent. There at the end, I had a restart and couldnt get through turn 1. Just slipped. I dont know what happened. [Dillon] just drove right by me. That was it. That was the race. Sprint Cup regulars Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano and Paul Menard finished third through sixth, respectively. Harvick led the most laps with 33. Rookie Chase Elliott, who won at Chicagoland, Trevor Bayne and Brian Scott were the other drivers qualified for the Dash 4 Cash at Indianapolis. Scott, the winner of the bonus at Chicagoland, finished seventh. Bayne placed ninth, and Elliott was 12th. Dillon, Scott, Bayne and Regan Smith qualified for the fourth and final round in the Dash 4 Cash, which is the Aug. 2 race at Iowa. Elliott remained atop the championship standings, but Smith moved to within four points of his JR Motorsports teammate following his 10th-place finish at Indy. TORONTO - He may not be the answer to the Blue Jays problems but general manager Alex Anthopoulos hopes to have popular Japanese infielder Munenori Kawasaki back next year. The 33-year-old Kawasaki brings more than a bat and glove to Toronto.Anthopoulos, at his end-of-season media session Sunday, said all you need to do is watch Kawasaki in the dugout.(The) different people he sits beside during the game and the different backgrounds, knowing he cant speak English, just shows you how he can connect to anybody, said Anthopoulos. Its amazing.Manager John Gibbons agrees.Hes a special guy, said the Texan. Thats not what the game is all about, but hes good for our team.Jays fans love Kawasaki for his quirky mannerisms, from stretching in the field inbetween plays to bowing to teammates. Despite his limited English, he even won a sponsorship with a local car dealership. He spent all but three games in April and May with triple-A Buffalo, returning to Toronto in mid-June. In 82 games, he hit. 258 with 17 runs batted in. Wearing No. 66, he struck out 49 times in 240 at-bats but prolonged more than a few of those at-bats with his plate coverage, making things difficult for the pitcher. And he can play anywhere on the left side of the infield. You feel good when he goes to the plate or if theres a play hes got to make on the field, you think hes going to get it done, and he normally does, said Gibbons. Hes been a pleasure. I mean, hes an uplifting guy.Weve got some extreme personalities in that clubhouse. Hes a guy that everybody kind of gravitates to and has fun with.Kawasaki, who signed a minor-league deal with the Jays this year, played in Japan from 2000 to 2011 before joining the Seattle Mariners in 2012. The next year he joined Toronto. He sealed his part in Jays lore in May 2013 with a game-winning double in a 6-5 walkoff win against Baltimore. In a memorable post-game TV interview, an excited Kawasaki said Thank you very much. My name is Munenori Kawasaki, I come from Japan, I am Japaneeeeese. He then consulted some notes. My teammates gave me an opportunity, so I wanted to do something about it, he added. He got no further as he was pied by a teammate and doused in Gatorade.Asked Sunday if he wants Kawasaki back in 2015, Gibbons said: I love the guy.I dont know whats going to happen with the team, but hell be playing somewhere. I know that.Anthopoulos went further.I think well look to bring him back. I think that goes without saying, said the GM. I havent talked to him. I dont know what his desires are. I dont think the finances have ever been an issue for him. My understanding is he can make more money in Japan, but hes wanted to play here.Well see. Brian Nicholson,Edmonton Brian: The referees job is to impose penalties for violations of the rules whenever they occur throughout the course of a game; including after time has expired on the game clock signaling the end of the match. The job is never done until the paper work has been completed! An automatic fine of $100 is incurred to a player assessed a misconduct penalty (rule 22.5). Failure by players to clear the area of a fight shall, in addition to the other penalties that may be assessed, result in a fine to the team of $1,000 and the coach of said team in the amount of $1,000 (46.1. Rule 31.9 (viii) states that the Referee shall report to the Commissioner promptly and in detail the circumstances surrounding any unusual occurrence that takes place on or off the ice, before, during or after the game. Should rule 28 supplementary discipline be invoked, it does not bode well for the Officials if penalties were not assessed following a major altercation even though the rule stipulates additional fines and suspensions can be imposed whether or not such offense has been penalized by the Referee. It is also important to note that a whistle was blown to halt play as a result of the altercation and prior to Chris Porter depositing the puck in the Jets unattended net with .01 seconds on the game clock. As a result of the whistle stopping play the goal was not allowed to stand. A "ceremonial face-off" is no longer required to complete the game when player aggression such as this takes place just prior to final horn. (Sports Network) - Flyers defenceman Chris Pronger will wear a visor in his return from a serious eye injury tonight when Philadelphia visits the Tampa Bay Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum. Pronger suffered the injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 24 when the stick of Mikhail Grabovski struck Pronger on a follow through from a shot. Pronger has missed the last six games. You can watch the game live on TSN2 and TSN Mobile TV at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt and join the TSN.ca Game Night Blog to chat with other hockey fans during the game. The leagues current leaders in goals scored, the Flyers try to extend their four-game point streak this evening and slow down Steven Stamkos and the Lightning. A former 51-goal scorer in 2009-10, Stamkos finished second in the NHL last year with 45 goals, but had just one tally through his first five games. However, the 21-year-old center has nine goals in his last nine games, netting a hat trick in last Fridays win over the Blackhawks before notching a goal and an assist in Sundays 4-3 come-from-behind shootout victory over the Panthers. Stamkos is tied with Buffalos Thomas Vanek for second in the league in goals scored with 10, one behind the leader Phil Kessel of Toronto, and has tallied eight times in 12 career games versus the Flyers. The Lightning have scored 43 goals on the season, tied for sixth-best in the league, while the Flyers are topping all clubs with 56 goals on the season. That is a bit of a surprise given that Philadelphia traded away two of its top goal scorers this past offseason in captain Mike Richards and forward Jeff Carter. "I dont think anybody expected that," said Flyers forward Danny Briere of his team leading the league in goals at this point. "Obviously, we lost a lot of firepower, but a lot of guys are stepping up. Nearly the whole roster stepped up in Philadelphias last game, a 9-2 victory over Columbus. Eight different players scored goals and 15 Flyers had at least one point. Rookie Sean Couturier was the lone multi-goal scorer, posting his first career two-goal game, and both James van Riemsdyk and former Blue Jacket Jakub Voracek tallied a goal and two assists. Claude Giroux tallied for the ninth time this year and Jaromir Jagr scored and had an assist to give him six goals and five assists over a seven-game point streak. Ilya Bryzgalov made 33 saves to give Philadelphia a 3-0-1 record in its past four games. "I think it was just nice to come out and play well," Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette said. "I think from the start we did the right things, pucks went in the net and I think more than anything we wanted to play the game the right way and because of that you get results youre looking for." Defenseman Erik Gustafsson recorded the first point of his NHL career with an assist and finished the game a plus-6. The Flyers offense may have another weapon back tonight in rookie Matt Read, who could return after missing the last three games with an upper-body injury. Stamkos, meanwhile, was part of a team effort on Sunday that saw the Lightning rally from three goals down to beat the Panthers in a shootout. Teddy Purcell had the game-tying goal in the third period to complete the rally and Dominic Moore scored the winner in the shootouts fourth round. Mathieu Garon started the game, but made only nine saves before his exit. Dwayne Roloson stopped all 28 shots he faced in relief to give the Lightning their sixth victory in eight games. "I dont know how many times Ive been throw in [in relief, but] I dont think weve ever come back to get a win," Roloson said. " Give our guys a lot of credit. We stuck with our game plan and battled back." Forward Ryan Malone joined Stamkos as a second-period scorer, but did not play in the third frame due to an upper-body injury. Victor Hedman missed the game entirely with an upper-body issue and both players are questionable for this game. Philadelphia snapped a three-game slide to Tampa Bay in the final meeting between the teams last year and has taken six of the past nine encounters. The Flyers have won four of their last five trips to the Forum. Nike Air Max 95 Trainers Sale . The storylines surrounding the Eastern Conference final reached Shakespearean proportions Friday. Second-ranked Stacy Lewis couldnt take advantage of Parks absence last week at the Kingsmill Championship in Virginia, but theyll be competing head to head again at the Airbus LPGA Classic starting Thursday on The Crossings course at Magnolia Grove thats part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. She watched Adam Scott wrest the PGA Tours top ranking from Tiger Woods on Monday without competing that week. "It would be nice to get it the way Adam Scott did, but I want to win tournaments at the end of the day," Lewis said Wednesday. "Being No. 1 in the world is definitely a goal but you cant think about it all the time. "If its something Im thinking about trying to make a birdie putt, its just not going to happen, so I just have to keep doing what I know is right. Even if I do get to No. 1, the goals dont change. Its still, give myself a chance to win on Sunday and let everything else take care of itself." Lewis has a successful track record in Alabama, winning the states tournaments in Mobile and Prattville in 2012. She wasnt able to pass Park, who missed last weeks tournament while sick. Park has been No. 1 for more than a year. "I wasnt really feeling well for the last couple weeks I played ... so the next week I probably took three or four days off trying to get healthier and get thee bad things out of my system," the South Korean said.dddddddddddd. "The next week I try to practice a little bit more and work on my game because I didnt really have that big of a gap or a break when the season started, so I didnt really have time to work on my game as much as I would like to. "I feel like Im back in a healthy condition, thats the important thing." Park is winless in eight starts this year. Lewis has eight top-10 finishes and won the North Texas LPGA Shootout. She expects low scores from the contenders this week. "Its just the way the greens are set up," Lewis said. "Theyre set up to make birdies, theyre set up to kind of funnel some shots in and get them close. Its fun for the fans, its fun for us to play, and being a good ball striker is where you want to be." For Jennifer Johnson, the return to Mobile has rekindled memories of her first LPGA Tour win last May. She finished with back to back 7-under 65 rounds and set a tournament-record with a 21-under 267 total. Johnson birdied four of the final six holes for a one-stroke victory over Jessica Korda and Pornanong Phatlum. She said being the defending champion could bring "a little pressure." "Maybe just trying to shoot the same thing I did last year because Im always trying to do better than I did the year before," Johnson said. "But I think the pressure really just you put it on yourself." cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
