BOSTON -- Jabari Parker put on a show for both college and NBA fans in Boston. Jonathan Isaac Magic Jersey . The freshman sensation set career highs with 29 points and 16 rebounds, Quinn Cook hit five 3-pointers and scored 21 points, and No. 11 Duke coasted to an 89-68 win over Boston College on Saturday night. "Jabari was a monster today with the amount of rebounds and points," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "He wasnt rewarded on the offensive boards with some of his finishes or it could have been a 35-, 36-point game." Parker shot 12 of 17 from the floor, getting baskets mostly from drives and dunks as the Eagles tried a number of different defences against him. "Jabari was really difficult to handle for anyone tonight," Krzyzewski said. "We just tried to give him some different looks. He got quite a bit in transition." With subtle cheers going up along with "oohs" when he did something exciting, Parker became the main focus of many in the crowd. There were a large number of Duke fans and, very likely, a good number of Boston Celtics fans interested in getting a live look at Parker as the local NBA franchise looks to rebuild quickly through the draft after dealing veteran stars Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to Brooklyn last summer. Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge sat courtside. "Ive seen him a lot growing up. I think the thing you dont realize on tape is, he has an extra pop," BC coach Steve Donahue said. "Its 6-8, 235 (pounds). Its an extra quickness that you dont see even in this league, and extra explosiveness." Rasheed Sulaimon added 10 points for the Blue Devils (19-5, 8-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). Parker extended his Duke freshman record to 14 games with 20 points or more. "I didnt see a lot of Duke fans," Parker said when asked if he heard the crowds reaction to some of his plays. "I guess they showed me a little excitement, a little joy." with 25 points and Ryan Anderson had 12. The Eagles have dropped 10 of 12, with their only conference wins coming against last-place Virginia Tech. The Blue Devils put it away with an 18-0 run midway through the second half, improving to 18-2 against unranked teams this season. "We wanted to pick up the defensive intensity," Cook said. "Hanlan was kind of having his way in the first half." That defensive intensity, along with Parker, was much more than BC could handle. "Hes a great player. To be so young as a freshman and to be so physically gifted as he is, a lot of things he does is mental," Anderson said. "He just reads the game really well. He played really well tonight." Following a solid first half, Parker scored 12 of Dukes initial 17 points after halftime as the Blue Devils opened a 56-44 lead on his three-point play with just under 14 minutes to go. He had a baseline jam on the first possession and followed that with a three-point play when he was fouled on a fast-break layup, pushing Dukes lead to 44-35. He added a fast-break dunk, two free throws and another three-point play. Following Andersons free throw that cut it to 44-38, Sulaimon nailed a 3 from the right wing, giving the Blue Devils their first double-digit lead. When it wasnt Parker for the Blue Devils, on pace to finish with the third-best 3-point shooting mark in school history, it was Cook, Rodney Hood or Sulaimon nailing 3s. Cooks made it 64-44 with just under 11 minutes left. Parker had a two-handed slam with 5:10 to play and was whistled for a technical for hanging on the rim too long, bringing a smattering of boos from the crowd. The Blue Devils led 39-35 at halftime. Parker, who entered second in the ACC in scoring (18.7 points per game) and leading the conference in rebounding (8.2), proved to be as tough as expected for Boston College to handle in the first half when he compiled 10 points and seven rebounds. The Eagles tried several things in trying to slow Parker in the opening half. They switched defences three times in the opening 10 minutes, going from man-to-man to zone and even using a box-and-1 at one point. They had guards attempting to play in front of him, forcing lob passes over the top, and had forwards covering him straight up. Still, his 6-foot-8 frame and quickness were on display whenever he got the ball. Boston College tied it at 16 on Alex Dragicevichs 3-pointer from the right wing, and neither team held more than a one-possession lead the rest of the half. Josh Harrison had a tiebreaking, two-out single two batters after Jose Tabata hit a sacrifice fly off of Stephen Strasburg in the seventh inning, and Pittsburgh handed Washington its fourth straight defeat, 3-2 Saturday night. Strasburg, who struck out 14 in a memorable major league debut against the Pirates almost four years ago, did not allow a hit Saturday until Walkers homer to centre with one out in the fourth. Pittsburgh managed just three more singles off Strasburg until the seventh, when Russell Martin led off with a single and went to third on a one-out double by Starling Marte before scoring on the sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Tabata. "(Strasburg) pitched very well," Washington manager Matt Williams said. "Of course, they got to him in that last inning but I want to give him a chance to get out of there with a tie game. He was still strong. Hes our ace, hes deserves a chance to get out of it and it didnt work out." Gerrit Cole left after six innings trailing by a run while facing Strasburg in the first matchup in the NL of No. 1 overall draft picks in nine years. Cole -- the top pick of the 2011 draft, two years after Strasburg went first -- allowed two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. Strasburg (3-4) allowed three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings. Strasburg insisted he wasnt losing his stuff as he crossed the 100-pitch plateau in the seventh. "My command was still pretty good," he said. "I got a pitch in on Martin and he dumped it into the outfield. I tried to pitch around a couple of guys. Jose Juan Barea Jersey .com) - The Nashville Predators have yet to lose consecutive games this season and they hope to keep that trend going by winning their final game before the All-Star break. The Montreal Canadiens, on the other hand, will try to deal Nashville its first losing streak of 2014-15 when they host the Preds in Tuesdays battle at the Bell Centre. The Predators, who own a four-point lead over Chicago atop the Central Division standings, have been one of the NHLs most surprising teams this season. Nashville has defied expectations by being the model of consistency under Peter Laviolette, who is in his first season as the teams head coach. Laviolette led Nashville to its fifth straight win, a 4-3 decision over former longtime Preds head coach Barry Trotz and his visiting Washington Capitals on Friday, before falling 5-2 the following night in Detroit. The setback against the Red Wings halted a 10-game point streak (8-0-2) and was Nashvilles first regulation defeat since Dec. 23 against Boston. Another loss tonight would give the Predators their first losing streak since an 0-3-0 slide from March 15-19 of last season. Nashville is playing without franchise goaltender Pekka Rinne, who has missed two games since suffering a lower-body injury last Tuesday against Vancouver. Rinne, who is a leading candidate for the Vezina Trophy, is expected to miss at least three weeks of action. Carter Hutton has started both games since Rinnes injury. He made 31 saves in Fridays win over the Capitals, but was pulled Saturday after yielding three goals on Detroits first four shots of the game. Marek Mazanec made 18 saves in relief of Hutton. The Red Wings beat Hutton for a goal just 57 seconds into the game when Gustav Nyquist finished off a 2-on-1. The lead would grow to 3-0 later in the first after Kyle Quincey and Tomas Tatar tallied 70 seconds apart. Tatars goal chased Hutton from the game with 7:28 left in the opening stanza. Mike Fisher and Mattias Ekholm each lit the lamp for Nashville. They got some breaks early, Fisher said. It was their night for sure. Its uncertain if Hutton or Mazanec will get the start tonight. Hutton has an overtime loss in his only career appearance against Montreal. Mazanec also has faced the Habs once, getting pulled from a start against the Canadiens on Dec. 21 of last season. He did not factor into the decision despite yielding three goals on just five shots in the 4-3 home loss. Nashville, which is 12-8-3 as the guest this season, will complete a brief two-game road trip tonight. The Preds will then emerge from the All-Star break with next Tuesdays home tilt against Colorado. The Canadiens also will play their final test for the break tonight. Montreal began a three-game homestand Saturday with a 6-4 win over the New York Islanders and the victory gave Montreal an 11-3-1 record over its last 15 contests. Tomas Plekanec scored twice and added two assists to lead the way in the win over the Isles. The victory halted a two-game home slide and pushed Montreals record as the host to 14-5-2. David Desharnais chipped in a goal and an assist for the Canadiens, while P.K. Subban, Dale Weise and Alex Galchenyuk also scored in the victory. Andrei Markov picked up three assists. Montreal again played without All-Star goaltender Carey Price, who is considered day-to-day with an upper body injury he sustained last Wednesday in a win against Columbus. Dustin Tokarski, starting his second straight game in place of Price, made 27 saves. That was one of the best teams in the league, but we had a good performance from all lines tonight, said Plekanec. Im happy that our line played very well tonight. Its (just) one of those nights when you get chances like I did. Price, who was selected to the upcoming All-Star Game, was back at practice on Monday and he could get the call for Montreal tonight. The Habs franchise goaltender is 23-10-2 with a 2.19 goals against average this season, but is just 1-3-0 with a 2.49 GAA in his career against Nashville. In other injury news for Montreal, forward P.A. Parenteau will miss a second straight game with concussion symptoms. Parenteau also missed three games earlier this month with a head injury before returning to the lineup Wednesday against Columbus. He has six goals and nine assists in 40 games this season. Montreal has won two of the last three overall meetings against the Predators, but Nashville has claimed the last two encounters in Quebec. Over his 11-year career, Morneau is a .277 hitter and a four-time All-Star. He was the 2006 American League MVP while a member of the Minnesota Twins, batting .321 that season with 34 homers and 130 RBIs. Last season, he was traded from the Twins -- the only organization he had ever known -- to the Pittsburgh Pirates for their playoff run. That was an interesting experience. "Just kind of not being settled was completely different. At the same time, it was exciting -- to play in a new league and all the new opponents and all that stuff was fun," Morneau said. And this is another new start for him, with some familiar faces in the clubhouse. Hes reuniting with outfielder Michael Cuddyer, his former teammate in Minnesota. Cuddyer actually played a big role in Morneaus arrival at Coors Field, delivering a pretty effective sales pitch. He also went to his fellow Canadian and boyhood idol, Larry Walker, asking Walkers opinion of the franchise the outfielder helped put on the baseball map. Walker touted the Rockies so much that they vaulted to the top of Morneaus free-agent list. Now, Morneau is hoping Walker gives him approval to wear No. 33. "To go there and possibly wear his number is something special for me," said Morneau, who grew up in New Westminster, B.C. As for the concussion issues that have plagued him at times in his career, Morneau believes thats a thing of the past. "There was a time there that Id do certain things and wonder if I was going to bring on symptoms," Morneau said. "But now it seems like Im able to get through pretty much any activity without even having a second thought or any hesitation on what Im doing. For the most part, its behind me. BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles had gone nearly a week without a victory, a stretch that included three one-run defeats in Arizona and a lopsided loss to Colorado at home. Hydro Flask Juomapullo . So, when they finally got to add another digit to their win total, the Orioles didnt really care if the outcome was influenced by their opponents mistakes. Brian Roberts and Manny Machado both hit two-run doubles during a seven-run third inning fueled by Colorado miscues, and Baltimore defeated the Rockies 8-4 Saturday night to end a four-game skid. Adam Jones had two hits in Baltimores highest-scoring inning of the season, which featured an error by shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, two walks, a passed ball and a wild pitch. Six of the seven runs were unearned, but when it was done the Orioles had an 8-1 lead. "It was huge," winning pitcher Bud Norris said. "It was a tough stretch there in Arizona. But just to be back in the win column was huge. To have a seven-run third inning is definitely a help to any starting pitcher going out there. I just wanted to keep putting up zeroes and the bullpen really came in and picked me up, too." Norris (9-10) gave up four runs and nine hits over 5 2-3 innings to improve to 3-1 since coming to the Orioles in a trade with Houston on July 31. He was followed by a relief corps that allowed only three hits the rest of way. "This is the big leagues. The third inning with a seven-run lead is never comfortable," said Tommy Hunter, who worked the ninth. "Guys came in and threw the ball well in certain situations and got us to the end of the ballgame with a four-run lead." Most of the damage in the third inning came against Colorado rookie Chad Bettis (0-2), who allowed seven hits, four walks and eight runs in 2 2-3 innings. "It was really embarrassing," Bettis said. "I need to be better. I wasnt making the right pitches." Baltimores third inning began with a double by Chris Davis and an infield hit by Jones. Nick Markakis followed with an RBI single, and one out later Colorado brought the infield in with runners on second and third. Steve Pearce hit a grounder that got past Tulowitzki, allowing Jones to score. "I think Tul probably looked up to see if the runner was taking off from third," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "But, hes been as good as you can possibly be at shortstop. Hes not going to make every play for six months." Following the second out, Roberts doubled in two runs, Nate McLouth walked and Machado hit his major league-leading 43rd double. Adam Ottavino replaced Bettis and walked Davis before Jones delivered an RBI single for a seven-run cushion. "Ive never been a part of a bad seven-run inning, when youre the one scoring it," Roberts said. "Obviously, we needed a little something to kind of jump start us and that was big, to use the extra out they gave us to put some runs on the board. Everyone kind of breathed a little sigh of relief and said, All right. Now were ready to go." Dexter Fowler hit RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings for the Rockies, who lost for only the second time in eight games. Colorado stranded 11 and went 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position. Jones had three hits and Davis picked up his 113th RBI to help the Orioles secure their first victory since beating San Francisco last Sunday. "I think people panic a little more outside the clubhouse than we do inside the clubhouse," Roberts said. "We all still feel like we are in pretty good shape." Colorado got two hits and two walks in the first inning but scored only once, when Tulowitzki bounced into a double play. In the bottom half, McLouth drew a leadoff walk, advanced on a single by Machado and came home on a fly ball by Davis. VANCOUVER -- The goaltender who thought he had played his last game with the Vancouver Canucks was back skating with his old teammates Friday. NFL Jerseys Cheap . Roberto Luongo, who spent all of last season expecting to be traded, admitted that it was strange to be back in Vancouver wearing a Canucks sweater again. "It was a bit odd flying in," Luongo said after training with several Canucks at the University of British Columbia. "Just when you think youve seen it all, theres always something else. In a move that stunned many -- including Luongo -- the Canucks instead dealt the 27-year-old Schneider to the New Jersey Devils at Junes NHL draft for the ninth overall pick, which Vancouver used to take Bo Horvat. "It caught me by surprise," said Luongo. "It takes a while. Its a process." Vancouvers training camp officially opens Wednesday and Luongo said getting back on the ice to play hockey offers him some solace. "Thats where you are the most comfortable, when youre on the ice," he said. "Youre playing the game and youre not thinking about stuff. "Thats why Im anxious to get training camp started ... to get back to a regular routine and not worry about other stuff." Luongos contract was a stumbling block in trying to trade him. He has nine years and US$40.5 million left on a deal that counts as a US$5.3 million salary cap hit. In a market once called a "goaltender graveyard," Luongo has always been a lightening rod for criticism. He isnt even sure how local fans will react to his return. "To be honest with you I dont know how its going to work out," said Luongo, who posed for pictures with several people after the workout. "Theres always going to be people supporting and theres going to be people not so supportive. It goes along with the territory. Ive realized that over the course of the year you cant really please everybody." In his early days in Vancouver, Luongo could sometimes be cocky, even arrogant. Some days he was friendly, others aloof. He showed more maturity the last few seasons and was praised for the way he handled the situation with Schneider. The two goaltenders were supportive of each other and didnt want to be a distraction to the team. "Ive always been the same person," said Luongo. "I just think a lot of people didnt see that before. "You learn and gain experience and learn to handle certain situations, whether they are a bit more complicated or whether you are thriving. You have to handle things a certain way. Maybe I have learned that a little bit more over the last couple of years. You have to practise it." Luongo was silent in the immediate aftermath of the trade, leading to speculation he was angry. There were suggestions he might boycott the Canucks training camp. "No," he said, dismissing the notion. "Thats not my style." Vancouver general manager Mike Gillis went to Luongos home in Florida over the summer to speak with his goaltender. "We chatted," Luongo said. "There was no animosity. The Panthers quarterback said Wednesday hes happy for San Franciscos Colin Kaepernick, who recently signed a six-year, $126 million contract. He said he wants to participate in next weeks three-day minicamp, but isnt sure if hell be ready. Newton and Kaepernick are linked in many respects because they came out of college the same year. Newton was selected first overall in the NFL draft in 2011, but only this past year did he finally get the Panthers to the playoffs. Kaepernick was selected 35 picks behind Newton but has helped the 49ers reach the NFC championship game three straight seasons. "Two different people, two different organizations," Newton said. "I wish Colin the best. ... I reached out and told him he deserved it. To do what he has done up to this point, he deserves to get paid." Newton can make an argument he does too based on three impressive statistical seasons. He has started every game for the Panthers since coming into the league and thrown for 11,299 yards with 64 touchdown passes and 42 interceptions. Hes also run for 2,032 yards and 28 TDs. But while general manager Dave Gettleman said Newton has proven to him that hes a franchise quarterback, the salary cap strapped Panthers havent signed the former Heisman Trophy winner to a long-term deal.
