CHARLOTTE, N. Frank Gore Jersey .C. -- LeBron James called comments on an audio recording of a man identified as Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling "appalling" and said hes not sure if he would suit up for the remainder of the NBA playoffs if he played for the Clippers. "Theres no room for Donald Sterling in the NBA -- there is no room for him," the Heat forward said Saturday night before a playoff game against the Charlotte Bobcats. The league said Saturday it was investigating the recording posted on TMZs website, calling the comments "disturbing and offensive." James said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver should take swift action if the comments are found to be made by Sterling. "Obviously, if the reports are true its unacceptable in our league," James said. "It doesnt matter, white, black or Hispanic -- all across the races its unacceptable. As the commissioner of our league they have to make a stand. They have to be very aggressive with it. I dont know what it will be, but we cant have that in our league. "Were the model citizen of all sports around the world because we are the most recognizable figures. ... Its very disrespectful and its appalling." One of James best friends, Chris Paul, plays for the Clippers. James said he hasnt spoken with Paul, but "I can only imagine what is going through his head." "I have kind of wavered back and forth if I would actually sit out," James said. "If our owner would come out and say the things he said I would have to sit down with my teammates and talk to my family because at the end of the day, our family and teammates are way more important than that,. Basketball is huge and the playoffs have been unbelievable so far and I hate that something has to come out." In the recording, the man on the recorder questions his girlfriends association with minorities. James said hes not angry about the comments, just disappointed. "I can only imagine if a player came out and said something of that stature what would happen to us as players," James said. "I believe in Adam (Silver) and I believe in the NBA and they have to do something very fast before this really gets out of hand. But like I said there is no room for Donald Sterling in our league." None of them was better than playing with LeBron James again.DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Its been 21 years since Joe Gibbs Racing celebrated its only Daytona 500 victory. Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth have the team in good position to end the drought. The JGR drivers swept the Daytona 500 qualifying races Thursday night. For Kenseth, it was redemption after a pair of wrecks during Speedweeks. Hamlins victory kept him undefeated on 2014. Hamlin also won last Saturdays exhibition Sprint Unlimited, and he goes into Sundays season-opening Daytona 500 trying to become the first driver in history to sweep Speedweeks. "Once that snowball starts to roll, its hard to stop it, and right now were just on a heck of a run," said Hamlin, who closed last year with a win in the season finale. After going so many years without winning a second Daytona 500, team owner Joe Gibbs wasnt looking ahead. His only win was with Dale Jarrett in 1993. "Weve come with great cars over the years. It shows you what a tough race this is, the 500," he said. "This race is extremely, extremely hard to win. That probably says it the best. That says it the best, over 21 years, thats a bunch." JGR had strong cars last season and seemed to be the team to beat during the race, but came up empty when Kenseths engine failed while leading. Minutes later, teammate Kyle Buschs engine also failed. Toyota is still looking for its first win in the "Great American Race." "The last Daytona was so far away, weve moved well beyond that," said Toyota Racing Development President David Wilson. "Were certainly not sweating the issues we had last year." The qualifying races make for an emotional day as drivers race their way into the Daytona 500, while others are sent home from the biggest event of the NASCAR season. Those left broken-hearted this year were Michael McDowell, Joe Nemechek, Ryan Truex, Eric McClure and Morgan Shepherd, who at 72 was trying to become the oldest driver in the field. Dave Blaney withdrew from the qualifying race after wrecking his only car in Wednesdays practice. But it was euphoria for the small teams of Swan Racing, which got both Cole Whitt and Parker Kligerman in the race a day after both drivers wrecked in practice, and Hillman Racing, which will be in the Daytona 500 with Landon Cassill, who was hit by a car Saturday while riding his bike in Daytona. "Ive been stressed out about this siince July," Cassill said. Kwon Alexander Womens Jersey. "I think Ive played this race over in my head, what I think it could do, for months now. For a small team, this race kind of makes our whole season, just the prize money alone to start on Sunday gets us through the next six or seven weeks. Its just huge for us." For Swan Racing, getting rookies Whitt and Kligerman into the field erased the nightmare of Wednesday. Whitt wrecked moments into practice, and the team was forced to rebuild his car after Kligermans was totalled when he went airborne. It was the first time Kligerman was ever upside down. Because Swan has only one backup, Kligerman got it, and the team went to work rebuilding Whitts car. Whitt raced his way in, but Kligerman faded in the first race and had to nervously watch the second race unfold to see if he earned a spot in the Daytona 500. "I feel like in a lot of ways, you have the weight of an organization on your shoulders to get these two cars in the race," Kligerman said. "Its a growing organization, an organization that wants to be around for a long time to come." But the second race ended in chaos, making everyone unsure of anything as defending Daytona 500 winner Jimmie Johnson ran out of gas on the final lap to trigger a crash that caused Clint Bowyers car to flip. "I knew he was saving gas coming to the green. Its too bad to tear cars up like that," Bowyer said. "That was one of the wildest flips Ive ever had. I think we would have been just fine if I hadnt hit the grass right here." Johnson was apologetic. "I feel terrible. To tear up that many race cars ... to see (Bowyer) flip ... certainly want to apologize to everyone," he said. "I tried to get up out of the way. So much energy in the pack that I knew I was going to get run over if I ran out because guys warned me about it -- and it did." The first race was uneventful as Kenseth led two times for 31 of the 60 laps. Harvick pulled out on the final lap to make his bid for the victory. Then Kasey Kahne pulled out of line to make it three-wide. After the race, Harvick was informed while sitting in the Fox Sports 1 studio as an analyst for the second race that his Chevrolet, sponsored by Budweiser, had failed post-race inspection for the first Budweiser Duel. "Yeah, well, well, thats no good," Harvick said. ' ' '

NEW YORK -- Make no mistake about it: Sean Doolittle and the Oakland Athletics are enjoying these wins over the skidding New York Yankees. Antonio Rudiger Chelsea Jersey . Yoenis Cespedes homered twice, Josh Donaldson hit a tiebreaking shot in the seventh inning and Oakland overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Yankees 7-4 Wednesday night for its fifth straight victory. The highest-scoring team in the majors this season, the As will go for a three-game sweep Thursday afternoon. They are 12-3 against New York since July 19, 2012. "I think theres the sense of the way we play that we have something to prove," said Doolittle, who earned his seventh save. "Weve got a little bit of a chip on our shoulder, small-market team, and we dont get a ton of national publicity. And when we get a chance to play against the Yankees on a big stage in their ballpark, guys step up." Donaldson connected off Jose Ramirez, who was making his major league debut, and added a pair of infield singles. Cespedes also had three hits to help the As move a season-best 15 games over .500 at 37-22, the best mark in the American League. "We never give up," Cespedes said through a translator. Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits, including an early three-run homer, but the Yankees matched a season worst with their fourth consecutive defeat. Theyve been outscored 21-0 from the seventh inning on during the slide. Derek Jeter made a costly error and New York dropped to 1-5 on a seven-game homestand with its 12th loss in the last 16 at Yankee Stadium. Jesse Chavez (5-3) hung around for six innings, long enough to get the win when his teammates rallied. Dan Otero got Brian McCann on a weak grounder with runners at the corners to protect a one-run lead in the seventh. Otero also worked a scoreless eighth and Doolittle got three quick outs to extend his career-best shutout streak to 16 1-3 innings. "Our bullpen down there is so deep and so well-rounded out that we really dont have a hole," Chavez said. "The guys come in and they attack, and I think thats why theyre so good in those situations." Cespedes started Oaklands comeback with a leadoff homer to centre in the fourth. Jed Lowrie hit a deep sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Yankees starter Vidal Nuno was pulled one out shy of qualifying for a win. He left with a 4-2 lead after 92 pitches. Cespedes hit another leadoff shot in the sixth, this one off Matt Daley barely clearing the short porch in right. Derek Norris reached on Jeters throwing error from shortstop and scored the tying run on Alberto Callaspos long sacrifice fly. "We had our chances to add on and we werent able to do it," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "The guys are doing everything they can, but right now we just arent getting it done." Just called up from the minors, Ramirez (0-1) entered in the seventh. He retired his first batter but then gave up Donaldsons 16th homer on his fifth major league pitch. The drive to left field gave the As a 5-4 advantage. "I was a little nervous," Ramirez said through a translator. "I wasnt really thinking about pitching tonight but I knew the chance would be there because of our bullpen situation." Oakland has gone deep in 12 consecutive games, hitting 22 homers during that span. "Anytime you fall behind 4-0, you dont really expect to win these games even though you might think it," Otero said. "Our offence, its only a matter of time sometimes before they break out, and they showed it tonight again." The AL West leaders added two insurance runs in the ninth on a hit batter and a sacrifice fly against Wade LeBlanc in his Yankees debut. Craig Gentry made a sensational catch in left-centre to rob Gardner of at least a double in the first. Moments earlier, Donaldson hit a trickler toward third that stopped rolling right on the line just inches from the bag. The slugger clapped his hands emphatically at first base, drawing chuckles from teammates in the dugout. "That ball didnt even get to third base," he said. "Its just one of those things where you really appreciate a hit like that." NOTES: Gentry started in place of CF Coco Crisp, given a night off to rest his nagging neck. ... Oakland has the best road record in the majors at 20-10. ... It was Cespedes fourth career multihomer games. The other three came in June last season. ... Yankees DH-OF Alfonso Soriano, hitless in 16 at-bats, did not play. ... Masahiro Tanaka (8-1, 2.06 ERA) faces Oakland LHP Drew Pomeranz (5-2, 2.37) in the series finale. Marcin Bulka Chelsea Jersey . The game got off to a less-than-ideal start for the Jets as Oliver Ekman-Larsson found a wide open net from the slot and opened the scoring for the Coyotes a lead in the first period, but Olli Jokinen answered back just over half a minute later. NGolo Kante Chelsea Jersey . Howard had 17 points and a career-high-tying 26 rebounds in his Houston debut, James Harden added 21 points and the Rockets cruised to a 96-83 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night. http://www.chelseafcproshop.com/Kids-Willian-Jersey/ . Chris Heisey connected for his first grand slam and Devin Mesoraco homered and drove in a career high-tying four runs as Cincinnati took advantage of Tampa Bays depleted pitching staff for a 12-4 victory on Sunday.Lakeland, FL - Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer has declined a long-term contract offer from the club. Scherzer avoided arbitration in January, agreeing to a one-year deal that is reportedly worth $15.25 million. The Cy Young winner can become a free agent after the 2014 season. Talks with agent Scott Boras for a long-term deal continued through the spring, but were unsuccessful and the Tigers said Sunday that further discussions would not take place during the season. "The Detroit Tigers have made a substantial, long-term contract extension offer to Max Scherzer that would have placed him among the highest paid pitchers in baseball, and the offer was rejected," the Tigers said in a statement. Scherzer was 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 240 strikeouts in 32 starts with the Tigers last year. He became the second Tiger in three years to capture the Cy Young, following 2011 winner Justin Verlander, who agreed to a five-year extension with a vesting option for 2020 last spring. "As we have reiterated, it has beeen the organizations intent to extend Maxs contract and keep him in a Tigers uniform well beyond the 2014 season," the Tigers statement continued. Marcos Alonso Chelsea Jersey. "While this offer would have accomplished that, the ballclubs focus remains on the start of the upcoming season, and competing for a world championship. Moving forward there will be no further in-season negotiation and the organization will refrain from commenting on this matter." Scherzer will be entering his fifth year with the Tigers, who acquired him from Arizona as part of a three-team deal that sent Curtis Granderson to the New York Yankees before the 2010 season. The 29-year-old right-hander has been a double-digit winner in each of his four seasons with Detroit and has a record of 64-30 with a 3.62 ERA in 128 starts as a Tiger. He was 9-15 with a 3.86 ERA in two years for Arizona. Overall, Scherzer owns a career mark of 73-45 with a 3.67 ERA and has 1,069 strikeouts in 1,019 innings in 174 games, all but nine of which have been starts. ' ' '

Things started off quite well for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but their January slide has pushed them out of playoff position. [url

Things started off quite well for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but their January slide has pushed them out of playoff position. Bob Griese Youth Jersey . So whats exactly wrong with the Blue and White these days? The team opened 2014 on a high, defeating the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in a shootout in front of more than 105,000 fans at Michigan Stadium for the NHLs Winter Classic. Since the outdoor win, the Leafs have dropped three straight games and have been outscored 18-5 in those contests. On top of that, the club has just five regulation/overtime victories over their last 31 games and a 4-13 record in the 17 games that ended in regulation. By comparison, the Leafs had 13 regulation/overtime wins in their final 31 games under Ron Wilson. Going into Friday nights game against Washington, theyve gone 2-7-4 in their last 13 road games, are 4-for-43 on the power play and their last road regulation win was Oct. 30 in Calgary. Is it the coaching? Many fans have called for the firing of head coach Randy Carlyle. In his lone full season with the Leafs, he led the team to their first playoff appearance since 2004. But is it possible that his good will with the players has taken a turn south? Many observers have blamed Carlyle for the Leafs defensive system, which has allowed a league-high 36.4 shots on goal per game and league-worst minus-9.2 shot differential. Others argue that the shot totals have been high all year and are nothing new for the Leafs. Their goaltending struggles, however, certainly are. Is the problem in goal? The Leafs relied on the strong play of James Reimer and more specifically Jonathan Bernier to get wins this season, but both have struggled of late. Bernier played 29 games with the Leafs this season before getting pulled for the first time on Saturday in a 7-1 loss against the New York Rangers. He allowed five goals on 32 shots in just under two periods of play. And Bernier struggled again the next time out against the New York Islanders, allowing four goals on 24 shots, three of them that Carlyle said Bernier wanted back. The Leafs lost again, 5-3. The team turned back to Reimer on Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, but he allowed six goals on 36 shots and the team lost its third straight game, 6-1. As TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger noted on TSN Radio 1050 on Friday morning, the Leafs, "played 60 minutes like they were killing a 5-on-3." At the same time, Torontos offence hasnt been anywhere near good enough to make up for the defensive shortfall. The Leafs top two scorers, Phil Kessel and James van Riemsdyk, have just one point between them over the last three games. The losing skid could be attributed to many things, but is it as simple as a Winter Classic hangover? The Leafs played most of December under the watchful eyes of television cameras documenting their lives, on and off the ice, for HBOs 24/7 Winter Classic series. When they won the game and shook their opponents hands at centre ice, the camera crews packed up and life was supposed to return to normal. But since then victories have been hard to come by. And now the Leafs find themselves on the outside looking in for a playoff spot with just under half the season remaining and Olympic break four weeks away. The time has come to ask, whats wrong with the Toronto Maple Leafs? As always, its Your! Call. Dan Marino Jersey . NORRIS COLE (Heat): Its funny, you watch a guy play and now really produce and it just jumps off the page at you - why? You put a young player with potential in a winning environment where there is veteran leadership, outstanding coaching and management and a way that things are done and its a wonderful environment for growth, improvement in a climate of constant accountability and expectation of achievement/production. Josh Rosen Youth Jersey . Alina Fodorova of Ukraine took third place. Broersen based her gold-medal performance on great high jumping, and finished with 4,830 points, while Theisen-Eaton, from Humboldt, Sask., set a national record of 4,768. http://www.dolphinsrookiestore.com/Dolphins-Cameron-Wake-Jersey/ . TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie tweeted Monday morning that Callahan - who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, is now open to a six-year contract at less than $7 million per season.Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Red Sox announced on Thursday that reliever Koji Uehara will return to the club thanks to a two-year contract. No financial terms were reported, but the Boston Globe stated it is for $18 million split equally between the two years. The 39-year-old native of Japan finished the 2014 campaign with a 6-5 record, 26 saves and 2.52 earned run average over 64 appearances for the last-place Red Sox. Minkah Fitzpatrick Jersey. . Good morning everybody! You might have heard through media, I signed with Red Sox for 2 years. I am looking forward to seeing you!, Uehara wrote on his Twitter account shortly after the club released the news. Uehara has put together a 10-6 record and 1.75 ERA along with 47 saves in 137 contests over the last two seasons in Boston. He was the 2013 ALCS MVP. ' ' '

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Colts lost defensive end Fili Moala with a season-ending knee injury Wednesday, then survived another scare with receiver T. Christian Fruchtl Bayern Munich Jersey .Y. Hilton. Its the third straight year Moala has finished the season on injured reserve. In March, the defensive end re-signed with Indianapolis after posting a career-best 26 tackles. He also had 1 1/2 sacks and fumble recovery in 2013 but landed on IR with a knee injury just before the playoffs started. The scare came when Hilton fell to the ground during a light workout and came up clutching his right leg. A few minutes later, he got up, stretched out and eventually returned to practice. He told reporters he was OK. To replace Moala, Indy signed 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive end Gannon Conway, an undrafted rookie. Xabi Alonso Bayern Munich Jersey . Bach is in Rome for the European Olympic Committees general assembly and meetings with Pope Francis. He also visited with Italian Premier Enrico Letta. "The prime minister appeared to be interested in a bid from Italy for 24, because he has realized that the games can serve as a catalyst for development for a city and a country," Bach told The Associated Press on Saturday.Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Miller scored a season-high 21 points in a rare start and the Cleveland Cavaliers bounced back from their worst loss of the season with a 95-91 win over the Brooklyn Nets. Miller hit 7-of-8 from behind the arc in his first start of the season and LeBron James scored 22 points with nine assists for Cleveland, which was coming off a 29-point home loss to Atlanta on Wednesday. Miller, who hadnt played since Dec. 4, had just 19 points in 13 games all season before Friday. Kyrie Irving chipped in 16 while Kevin Love had his worst shooting performance in a Cavs uniform, going 1-for-10 for six points. Love, however, finished with a game-high 14 rebounds. Joe Johnson led five Nets players in double figures with 26 points. Clevelands 54-49 halftime lead disappeared when the Nets opened the third with a 6-0 run. Neither team led by more than four until Shawn Marions runner early in the fourth gave the Cavs a 78-73 lead. Brooklyn got within three points twice after that. Johnsons 3-pointer with 41.8 seconds left made it 94-91 and Irving got stripped on his way to the basket at the other end, leaving the door open. The Nets pushed the ball up the floor rather than calling for a timeout, a move that ultimately backfired. Kingsley Coman Bayern Munich Jersey. Jarrett Jack passed to the top of the key to an open Johnson, who didnt catch the ball cleanly and had to swing to Kevin Garnett. The deflected pass found Garnett on the left wing, but his triple missed short. James split a pair of free throws to put the game away. Brooklyn led by as many as 11 points in the first quarter but Cleveland responded and tied the game at 35-35 early in the second. After Sergey Karasevs 3-pointer gave the Nets a 45-39 lead with 5:13 to play, in the second quarter, the Cavaliers ran off 15 straight points to climb in front for the first time. Irving scored six points during the spurt, which Anderson Varejao capped with two free throws before the Nets scored the last five points before halftime. VANCOUVER -- John Herdman says Canada is getting closer. Kahale Warring Jersey . After watching his team fall 2-1 to Germany in an international friendly on Wednesday night, the Canadian head coach was adamant the gap is shrinking between his side and the top teams in the womens game ahead of next summers home World Cup. Canadas starting roster included four teenagers, including 16-year-old midfielder Jessie Fleming, and while there were rough patches Herdman was buoyed by the performance against the No. 2-ranked team in the world. "A year out, 2-1 away from the European champions, a goal away?" said Herdman. "Ya Ill take that." Herdman is trying to implement a more free-flowing system ahead of the World Cup as opposed to the more direct, long-ball style of past Canadian teams. It has taken some time for the players to grasp the concepts, and fitness remains a concern, but they were right with the imposing Germans for long stretches on Wednesday. "Weve said this World Cups about two things," said Herdman. "Its about making the country proud, but also trying to inspire a generation of coaches and players at the youth level that theres another way of going about things other than the blunt instrument." Wednesdays lineup included Fleming, along with a trio of young defenders -- 17-year-old Sura Yekka, along with Kadeisha Buchanan and Rebecca Quinn, who are both 18. "These games, we said, this year will tell us what the gap is," said Herdman. "We improved. Im clear on that. "Were producing more crosses, more final acts, more final third entries than we ever did." However, the game was decided on a mistake by one of those youngsters as Simone Laudehr scored from the penalty spot in the 66th minute after Buchanan brought down Lena Lotzen. Laudehr stepped up with the score tied 1-1 and calmly blasted a shot into the roof of the past a helpless Erin McLeod for a lead the visitors would never relinquish. "Youre dealing against a different type of player," Herdman said of the German attack. "Youre not dealing against one individual player that you can mark out of a game. Youre dealing against three or four players that move with one mind at the same time, and thats a different challenge. It takes communication, it takes earlier adjustments." Lotzen had Germanys other goal on the night, while Sophie Schmidt replied for Canada. "Germany, theyre so organized," said Canadian captain Christine Sinclair. "Any little mistake you make theyre going to punish you and they punished us on a couple tonight. "Overall, just in terms of the style of play we were trying to produce, I think weve made a lot of progress. Its just cleaning those little things up." The German winner came after Schmidt woke up a sleepy crowd of 15,618 at B.C. Place Stadium in the 53rd minute with a bizarre game-tying goal. The Canadian midfielder completely scuffed her shot after taking a pass in the box from Diana Matheson, but the ball scooped up and over German goalkeeper Nadine Angerer for an unlikely equalizer. Trailing 1-0 at the half, Canada gave up two glorious chances to Germanys Anja Mittag that she couldnt finish just after the break. The striker was stopped by McLeod -- who came on for Karina LeBlanc at halftime -- in the 47th minute, and then again in the 49th after a sloppy pass by Fleming and a timid challenge from Quinn. "Theyll learn from that. If thats the biggest issue I think thats going to be cleaned up pretty quickly," said Herdman said of his teenagers. "Those mistakes are not going to happen as frequently and this is a great learning (experience) for some of those younger players." After Schmidt tied the score, McLeod stopped Alexandra Popp on another breakaway in the 58th minute as Germany continued to probe No. 7 Canada for a weakness that would eventually come in the 65th. McLeod made a number of big saves as second half wore down, keeping the score respectable in a game where Germany took a while to get going before showing its class. The Germans came close on two golden opportunities in the first half and finally struck in the 29th minute when Laudehr crossed a ball from the left that glanced off Mittag and right to Lotzen, who poked a shot home past LeBlanc. Sinclair had the games first opportunity when she was sent in alone in the 12th minute, but she was stopped Angerer. Popp then nearly caught LeBlanc off her line six minutes later, but saw her effort 40 yards out rattle off the crossbar. Canadian defender Rhian Wilkinson then nearly gifted the Germans the lead in the 24th when her ill-advised pass was intercepted by Mittag, but her shot in alone went over the bar. Buchanan scored her first goal for Canada in last months 1-1 draw with the United States, and nearly had her second in as many games two minutes later, only to be thwarted by Angerer. After Germany took the lead, the visitors almost got another goal moments later, but Bianca Schmidt missed a golden opportunity from six yards out. Canada, which has never beaten Germany, lost 1-0 to the European giants last year in a game where Herdmans team barely had the ball over the halfway line. He said that despite the scoreline and the chances surrendered in the final 30 minutes on Wednesday, the performance is reason for optimism with the start of the World Cup less than a year away. "We didnt get dominated. They didnt pen us into our half for 90 minutes," said Herdman. "I think thats a really positive performance. "The futures pretty bright." Notes: Sinclair and Angerer, who was named FIFA womens world player of the year for 2013, are teammates with the Portland Thorns of the NWSL. ... EL SEGUNDO, CALIF. Ederson Moraes Jersey . – It may end up being the key matchup in the first-ever playoff series between the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks. A stingy defence led by Drew Doughty against an explosive offence led by Hart Trophy nominee Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. "Hit and hope," is all Kings head coach Darryl Sutter would say on Friday when asked how his team can slow down the Ducks dynamic duo. Luckily, Sutters top defenceman was willing to go a bit more in-depth. "Ive played Getzlaf and Perry so many times," said Doughty. "Ive played with them [most recently at the Sochi Olympics], I know exactly how they play. I study how they play. Theyre two of the hardest players to play in the league, no matter who is the third guy on that line. Its such a hard line to play against. But, like I said, Ive studied how they play so many times that I know exactly what theyre going to do and it just comes down to out-competing them, being a better player in every situation. "Its going to be tough for me to do, but I have to do it." Doughty, who averaged 26:31 of ice time per game during the first round win over the San Jose Sharks, will see a lot of Anaheims top line along with his defence partner Jake Muzzin. "Those two have been together for a long time," said Muzzin when asked about Getzlaf and Perry. "They have a lot of chemistry between each other and they kind of know where theyre going to be on certain plays. So you have to be very clear on where they are on the ice and be very vocal with each other on defending that top line." But the adjustment shouldnt be too tough for the Kings. Doughty is expecting a similar series to what his team experienced against the Sharks. "Theyve got really good forwards, especially their top guys are really good like San Joses," he said. "I think we can take advantage in some parts of the game with their defence, like we could with San Jose as well. I think Anaheim has maybe a little bit better of a goalie, so itll be harder to get it past him. I think its going to be the same type of game. Theyre going to get in on the forecheck. Their forecheck is a little bit different, but they actually come harder than San Jose, surprisingly. So we know theyre going to create off that." And Doughty warned against focusing too much on the Ducks dynamic duo, who combined for 74 goals in the regular season (28 per cent of Anaheims league-leading 263 goals). "For most of the season it wasnt really Getzlaf and Perry, who dominated our team," explained Doughty, "it was kind of the third, fourth-line guys like [Nick] Bonino, [Andrew] Cogliano and [Patrick] Maroon and guys like that so we got to pay special attention to them to." Getzlaf had one goal and one assist in the five regular season games against the Kings while Perry had two goals and two assists. Bonino had one goal and two assists, Cogliano had one goal, while Maroon had two goals in four games. Doughty remembers the Ducks secondary scoring being a key factor in the season series, which saw Anaheim win four of the five encounters, including an outdoor game at Dodger Stadium. But what stood out to Sutter during the regular-season showdowns? "We played two really good games in their building," Sutter said, leaving it at that. The teams split the two games at the Honda Center where the series will open on Saturday and where Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau will have the advantage of last line change. Sutter was in fine form on Friday in his meeting with the media, which lasted a little under three minutes with a good chunk of that being awkward silence following short answers. The first question to Sutter was: whats the biggest challenge your team will face in the second-round series? "Were playing indoors," a deadpan Sutter stated. "We heard originally the whole series was going to be played at either the Angels stadium or at the Dodgers. So now we found out today that theres actually four in Honda and three at Staples [Center], so weve got a lot of work to do to get that figured out." Its a little warm to play outside, a reporter retorted referencing the high of 35 degrees celsius in Orange County. "Its supposed to cool off, though," Sutter responded, not missing a beat. The Kings had no problem handling the heat against the Sharks as they became just the fourth team in NHL history to win a best-of-seven series after losing the first three games. And one player who has adapted well to the Hollywood spotlight is the 25-year-old Muzzin. Muzzin has proven worthy of the top-pairing assignment during just his second trip to the NHL post-season. Last year, Muzzin picked up three assists in 17 playoff games while averaging 15:50 of ice time per game. This year, Muzzin already has two goals and three assists through seven games while averaging 18:26 of ice time. "I think its just probably a little bit more experience," Sutter said. "If you take last years playoff where he was in and out of the lineup or didnt play that much, this year weve had to rely on him a little bit more to get him ready for playoffs and thats sort of just a continuation of that." "Jake was only on for one goal against in the whole series [against San Jose], shows you how good he was playing," said Doughty. "We did well offensively too [combining for 12 points]. The good thing about me and Muzz is when a teams emphasis is so hard on the forecheck, our breakout ability is really good where one of us can do it on our own. We can talk to each other, help out and I think that is the strength of us. We dont spend a lot of time in our D-zone. And when we do, were both physical, big guys who can pin a guy to have a loose puck and we can get it that way. We did really well in our D-zone, and thats why we were successful as a pair." Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton, Logan Couture, Patrick Marleau and Brent Burns were held to just one goal over the final four games of the series against the Kings thanks in large part to the work of Muzzin and Doughty. "We were a lot better in our zone," said Muzzin when asked about the reversal in fortune in the series. "Getting pucks in and out, not giving them chances to create cycle opportunities and chances like that. [Jonathan Quick] made some big saves when called upon. But as a whole team, we definitely limited their chances by being quick in our zone and I think we had better gaps on the rush and better awareness on our changes and on the rush as well." NOTES: Jeff Carter and Willie Mitchell (lower body) did not take part in Fridays practice at the teams facility in El Segundo. Sutter said it was an optional skate and Carter took the option after working out off the ice on Thursday. Carter did see his ice time dip in the final few games of the Sharks series, playing 13:07 in Game 6 and 14:06 in Game 7 ... Thats the biggest difference." ... Forward lines at practice minus Carter: Gaborik-Kopitar-Brown; Pearson-Nolan-Toffoli; King-Stoll-Williams; Clifford-Richards-Nolan. ORCHARD PARK, N. Jordan Scarlett Panthers Jersey .Y. - Buffalo Bills receiver Marquise Goodwin did not practice because of a head injury, leaving his status uncertain to play at Houston on Sunday. The Bills announced Thursday that Goodwin was going through the NFLs concussion testing protocol, which he must pass before being cleared to play. Its unclear when the injury happened, but Goodwin was limited in practice a day earlier because of an illness. Buffalo (2-1) is already down backup receiver Marcus Easley, who was already ruled out after hurting his left leg blocking on a kickoff return in a loss to San Diego last weekend. The Impact were shutout twice by Sporting KC earlier this year — 4-0 on the road on Apr. 19, and 3-0 at home on May 10. The two teams meet for the third and final time this season at Saputo Stadium on Saturday. Catch the game on TSN as part of an MLS doubleheader starting at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt. "Those were tough to digest," said striker Marco Di Vaio, who did not play in the 3-0 loss due to a hamstring injury. "We know that, unless we double our efforts, well lose again. We have to improve, and we have the capacity to do so. We need a full team effort to beat this team." At Sporting Park in April, the Impact (3-8-5) gave up three second-half goals, including two to KC striker Dom Dwyer, for their biggest defeat of the season. In May, Montreal was reduced to 10 men after just 17 minutes when midfielder Collen Warner, who has since been traded to Toronto FC, was shown a red card for handling the ball with his arm in the penalty box. Dwyer converted the ensuing spot kick, and added another goal in the second half. After that game, Impact President Joey Saputo took to Twitter to promise fans that changes were forthcoming. True to his word, Saputo shuffled the roster. In the last two months, the Impact traded Warner for midfielder Issey Nakajima-Farran, acquired Mamadou Danso from the Portland Timbers, signed Spanish midfielder Gorka Larrea, sent Jeb Brovsky to expansion side New York City FC, released the injured Nelson Rivas, and added Polish left back Krzysztof Krol. Most recently, after confirming Hernan Bernardello was headed to Cruz Azul in Mexico, Montreal signed Argentine attacking midfielder Ignacio Piatti as a designated player. "We made some good moves and brought in some good quality players," said manager Frank Klopas. "Its taken some time for them to jell, but were a different team. We have to continue to show that on the field." While Danso, Krol and Piatti have yet to see action for the Impact, the positive results have started trickling in. Since that 3-0 home loss to Kansas City in May, Klopas men are 4-3-3 in all competitions, and went undefeated in their final three Amway Canadian Championship games en route to the Voyageurs Cup. "The team is much better now," said Di Vaio, who has yet to score against Sporting KC in six career matches. "Were working as a team, were more confident. We hadnt been working together. Now, were more team-oriented." "We changed our personnel, and we changed our attitude," added captain Patrice Bernier. "Its up to us to prove that our two first games against them, we were a different team, and we werent at our best. Were at home, and we have to remember the lastt time we played against them. Cam Newton Womens Jersey. " Since returning from the two-week World Cup break, the Impact have strung together three solid performances. The team registered a scoreless draw against the Whitecaps in Vancouver before beating the Houston Dynamo 3-0 at home. Last week, despite a solid defensive showing, Montreal conceded four minutes into stoppage time for the 1-0 loss against Chivas USA to remain winless on the road this season. Prior to the goal, the Impact had gone 315 successive minutes without conceding, the third longest shutout streak in Major league Soccer this year. The stingy defending, however, hasnt been enough to heave the Impact off the bottom of the MLS standings, where they have been for most of the year. With just 14 points from 16 games, Montreal has the leagues worst record. "Paradoxically, considering the start of the season weve had, were not that far from a playoff spot," said defender Hassoun Camara, whose team is just six points off fifth place in the Eastern Conference. "It may not have been how we wanted to start the season, but now, even in losses like last weeks against Chivas, were really bringing it on the pitch. We have to overcome adversity." To keep second-place Kansas City (7-5-5) at bay, the Impact will have to contain Dwyer, something they couldnt do in the first two encounters this season. The 23-year-old leads the team with 12 goals and a league-high 63 shots. "Hes going to work hard, hes going to make good runs in the box, hes going to fight for everything, and hes going to close down," said Klopas. "Box defending has to be good, obviously. Hes a guy that you have to be aware of for 90 minutes, because the one moment you lose focus and concentration, he can hurt you. "He has a very god mentality right now and hes playing with a lot of confidence." Like the Impact, Kansas City has only conceded once in its last three MLS games. But clean sheets may be more difficult to come by for Sporting in the near future. The team will be without goalkeeper Eric Kronberg for eight weeks after he fractured a bone in his left hand during training on Wednesday. Kronberg, whos played all 17 games for Sporting KC this season, leads the league with seven clean sheets. Backup keeper Andy Gruenebaum will likely get the start against Montreal on Saturday. Notes: On Tuesday, Klopas announced the Impact were still interested in acquiring Canadian international Olivier Occean from Kaiserslautern in Germany. … Sporting have yet to lose when they score first (7-0-4). … Karl Ouimette will be suspended if he receives a yellow card on Saturday. … Centre back Matt Besler will likely make his first appearance for SKC since returning from the FIFA World Cup. … Kansas City has only lost once in its last six MLS matches. This is going to be a good team. Brian Elliott Jersey . I realize I tend to say that about almost every team in my CFL previews this year, but with Montreal it is easy to express analytical optimism for many reasons. First is quarterback Troy Smith. There is nothing really physically outstanding about Smith; he is 60, 224 pounds with a good arm and good mobility. I sum him up as thick and quick. But there is something about him, a genuine confidence expressed through experience in football at a high level. An articulation and intelligence that you "pick up on" when he is in front of a camera talking about himself and the league. And a unique level of humility that says in order to perform, I have to learn; not the other way around. I have always looked at humility as a strength and maturity; arrogance as a weakness and insecurity. When you consider the short amount of preparation time Smith experienced last year, his solid on field performance in yes, limited games, was very impressive. You have to feel good that as the teams starter from the outset, improvement is inevitable. I know of the other Alouettes QBs, but I would be immensely surprised if, outside of injury, Smith is not the No. 1 quarterback wearing No. 1. And with Anthony Calvillo retired, I am sure Smith looks at this training camp as a career opportunity, not a wait-and-see situation. On the defensive side of the ball, the Alouettes have an exceptional unit with just one unknown: who will play middle linebacker now that Shea Emry is an Argonaut? This issue is more a ratio adjustment problem than a personnel problem. It would be great if you could replace a Canadian with another good Canadian but if not, you will have a market of linebackers ready throughout the United States. The two positions of numeric wealth in NCAA football are running back and linebacker; simply said there are a lot of them. Last year Montreal was first in some significant defensive categories: fewest yards allowed at 314 per game, fewest rushing yards allowed at 88 per game; fewest 2nd down conversions allowed, most two and outs forced, most quarterback sacks with 59, and a key one, most takeaways with 56. All they need is to find or develop a new middle linebacker. Thats a manageable situation. On offence, Brandon Whitaker will be back and with Jamel Richardson and SJ Green it is hard to argue that the two best slot receivers are anywhere but Montreal. The Chad Johnson experiment will be an interesting one. Hes closer to 40 than 30 but the bottom line is can he still move like he is 20? Answers will be given early but if he is competing for a roster spot with someone younger and equal in talent, the younger guy will get it. The single biggest mediating factor in athletic performance is age. You know it is coming but you cant stop it, you can only slow it down. Special teams will improve with Larry Taylor and Duron Carter as returners, but also a rededication to blocking effectively for the returners as a priority. And finally there is Tom Higgins, the new Alouettes head coach. More than a few years removed from coaching, Higgins is about as much a polar opposite from the previous full-time head coach as you can get. And that is a good thing. Higgins is pragmatic and calculated; hes an administrator and no one knows the rules better. Hes been named CFL coach of the year and is a Grey Cup-winning coach. He is not the next youthful flash of success, quite the opposite. This decision comes from the experience of decades being the front man of the organization. This one is logical and safe compared to last years decision, which was risky and a novelty. It does not happen very often but every now and then games are determined by experience or inexperience with CFL rules. This year, thats an advantage with Higgins in Montreal. In the East, Toronto has to keep Ricky Ray healthy for 18 games because assuming the next Zack Collaros is on the roster is unrealistic. Hamilton has to continue to improve and may be the team to beat early. Ottawa is brand new, if they make the playoffs it will be a successful season. So where does that leave Montreal? With a new coach, new quarterback, new receivers, and maybe more adversity than any CFL team last year, they still finished 8-10, only three games out from first place. Another 8-10 finish this year is very unlikely; expect Montreal to surprise come November in BC. Ivan Provorov Jersey . Kerry, In the first period of Saturdays Montreal-Ottawa game, Brendan Gallagher is called for goaltender interference. Craig Anderson is outside the blue paint trying to make the save.ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Although Stephane Robidas isnt a flashy player, the sturdy defenceman could be exactly what the high-flying Anaheim Ducks need in their Stanley Cup chase. The Ducks acquired Robidas from the Dallas Stars on Tuesday for a conditional fourth-round pick in this years draft. The overall NHL leaders made three deals on the day before the leagues trade deadline, shaking up their roster with 20 games left in the regular season. Anaheim also sent backup goalie Viktor Fasth to Edmonton and shipped forward Dustin Penner to Washington. Although the 37-year-old Robidas wont return from a broken leg for at least two more weeks, the Ducks were eager to acquire a hard-nosed veteran with superior passing skills and a nasty edge to his game. Theyre all attributes Anaheim could use in its attempt to back up its outstanding regular season with playoff success. The Ducks lead the NHL with 91 points and three straight victories heading into Wednesdays game against Montreal, but theyve won just one playoff series since winning their franchises only Stanley Cup title in 2007. Robidas knew he probably didnt have a future with the Stars, who havent discussed a contract extension with him. When he heard Anaheim was interested, he jumped at the chance to play in the post-season for the first time since 2008, when Dallas eliminated the defending champion Ducks in the first round. "Were going for a Stanley Cup, and thats what Ive been waiting for for a long time," said Robidas, who is joining his fourtth NHL club. Jaromir Jagr Flyers Jersey. "I think its a great opportunity for me, and Im just very excited for the chance the Ducks are giving me." Robidas hasnt played since breaking his leg against Chicago on Nov. 29 while crashing into the boards behind the net, but he has been participating extensively in practice. He had four goals and one assist in 24 games for the Stars this season. "Everything has been going really well," Robidas said of his recovery. "Ive just got a few little things I need to get a little more comfortable." Robidas should add experience and toughness to a defence that has spent the entire season without veteran Sheldon Souray, who got hurt in summer training. Robidas should be familiar to some Ducks fans from that 2008 playoff series in which Anaheims Todd Marchant accidentally broke Robidas nose with the puck -- and Robidas returned to the game shortly afterward. "Thats how I play," Robidas said. "Im not a finesse player. I know my role. I know what I need to do. I know how I need to play, and Im not going to change the way Ive been playing. Im going to be the same player, and I think thats why they came and they got me." Robidas is seventh in Dallas club history with 704 games played. He has 211 points in two stints with Dallas, his home for all but 45 NHL games since 2002. The draft pick acquired by the Stars becomes a third-rounder if the Ducks reach the Western Conference finals and Robidas plays in half their playoff games. ' ' '

The 23-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., defeated Germanys Benjamin Becker 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday in the fourth round of the Sony Open in just 89 minutes. Ron Hextall Jersey . - After three days of light, make that very light, workouts, Team Irvin and Team Carter are ready for tonights Pro Bowl. http://www.hockeyflyersauthentic.com/claude-giroux-jersey/ .ca. ' ' '

Luke Donald says Tiger Woods may not be ready to return from a mental standpoint after he pulled out of his planned comeback this week. Brett Favre Jersey . Former world No 1 Woods has undergone three back operations in the space of 19 months and has not played competitively since August last year but was one of Davis Loves vice-captains during a victorious Ryder Cup for the USA at Hazeltine. The 40-year-old had planned to play at the Safeway Open in California this week and in the Turkish Airlines Open on the European Tour in November, but, despite saying his health was good, Woods claimed his game was vulnerable and opted to withdraw from the tournaments. Donald, who is hosting the British Masters this week, live on Sky Sports, can sympathise with the 14-time major winner after being sidelined with a career-threatening wrist injury in 2008 and said: Obviously it sounds like clinically he feels fine. Why Tiger Woods wont be making his long-awaited return to golf at this weeks Safeway Open Hes just not quite ready to tee it up from a mental standpoint perhaps. Thats certainly what I gathered from his comments.Theres a lot of mental anguish when you take time away. I think obviously Tiger, the greatest player thats ever played, hes got very, very high standards and expectations. Luke Donald is hosting the British Masters this week I think that you have to weigh that up with that feel of almost failure or fear or anxiety of not performing well. If Tiger Woods is healthy like he says he is, thats probably what hes weighing out right now, just feeling comfortable. Its really hard to get comfortable unless you actually put yourself through it. At some point hes got to jump in, and if he messes up, hes got a good opportunity to get better the next time he plays. Watch NOW TV Watch Sky Sports for just ï¿¡6.99. No contract. Chris Wood, who is also set to play at The Grove as part of the British Masters, saw Woods in person during the Ryder Cup and hopes this latest setback does not mark the end of his career. Tiger Woods during his role as vice-captain for the United States Ryder Cup team He seemed fine at the Ryder Cup, but you never know with Tiger, Wood said. Nobodys ever known, really, throughout his whole career what he really does golf-wise when hes at home, practice-wise, gym, all that sort of thing. Nobody knows and [he] never gives on.Its really disappointing because I was ready to watch it and obviously it would have been great for the European Tour for him to play in Turkey in his second event back. Chris Wood explains why the British Masters golf tournament is so special to him It is really disappointing for myself as a golf fan to not be able to sit down and watch him play, because he was my golfing hero. He won the Masters when I was 10 years old, so from that point on hes the only guy Ive ever looked up to really. You can watch Englands tour of Bangladesh, plus Premier League football and the British Masters on Sky Sports. The top-ranked Spaniard won his fourth Madrid Open on Sunday after Kei Nishikori was forced to withdraw with a hip injury when trailing 2-6, 6-4, 3-0 in the final. And Nadal, who is coming off to uncharacteristic quarterfinal losses on clay, said his mental strength is still lacking just two weeks ahead of the French Open. Mike Hughes Youth Jersey . Ramon, 30, played in a career-high 97 games with the Goldeyes in 2013. He also matched a career-high eight home runs and posted 52 RBI. http://www.thevikingsshoponline.com/Youth-Kirk-Cousins-Vikings-Jersey/ . Mauer drove in two runs before leaving with an injury, Eduardo Nunez homered and the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 10-2 on Tuesday night. Since Chris Johnsons ‘CJ2K season of 2009, when the speedy running back joined the exclusive 2,000 yards rushing club, hes struggled to regain that historic form. There is some potential on offence but overall the roster doesnt have enough talent to get excited about in 2013. Maybe QB Jake Locker makes the leap in his third year in the league, but Tennessees fortunes are still tied more closely to Johnson at running back, who will need to return to CJ2K for the Titans to have any chance at the playoffs this season. The 32-year-old Canadian closed with a 1-under 71 for a 12-under 204 total at Longbow Golf Club. She finished second last year, two strokes behind Jaclyn Sweeney. "It feels amazing, Ive worked really hard the last five months and Ive finished second a lot on this tour and this is my first win," said Sharp, who earned $15,000. "It feels really good. I struck the ball well all week, putted well and hung in there. ... It was a little bit of a grind today, but I used my mental toughness and training to get through it and Im happy that Im holding the trophy." She will return to the LPGA Tour on March 20-23 at the LPGA Founders Cup in Phoenix. "This is a big confidence boost, I played well in the Bahamas and missed the cut in Australia so I was a little bit down coming into this week," Sharp said. "These three days have brought me back up and now I have a month off until the next tournament, the LPGA Founders Cup, and Im looking forward to that." Steen finished with a 68. (SportsNetwork. Calvin Ridley Falcons Jersey .com) - The top-seeded Anaheim Ducks will aim for a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference first round series tonight when they host the Dallas Stars at the Honda Center. The game can be seen live on TSN and TSN GO at 10pm et/7pm pt. Ryan Getzlaf will play after suffering a deep facial laceration late in Game 1 because of getting hit with a puck. He required multiple stitches to close the cut, but that x-rays were negative. "He has no one to impress. He has a wife and kids. I think he looks good. This is playoff hockey," quipped Ducks defenseman Ben Lovejoy. Getzlaf, a Stanley Cup winner in 2007 with the franchise, has 22 goals and 39 assists in 70 postseason appearances. Getzlaf and his wife, Paige, had a baby girl this morning as well. The Ducks Matt Beleskey suffered a lower-body injury in Game 1 and will not play Friday. Devante Smith-Pelly will likely start in place of Beleskey, but head coach Bruce Boudreau said others might get the chance to play on that line as well. The Ducks led the West with 116 points -- 25 more than Dallas -- and their supremacy showed in the early portion of Wednesdays Game 1 victory. However, after jumping out to a four-goal lead, Anaheim was forced to hang on for a 4-3 decision in the opener. Anaheim held a 4-0 lead just over nine minutes into the second period, but Dallas cut the deficit to two goals by the end of 40 minutes and made it a 4-3 game when Tyler Seguin scored with a little over six minutes remaining in the third period. However, rookie goaltender Frederik Andersen, who got the start in net for Anaheim over Jonas Hiller, turned away all comers over the final six minutes to help the Ducks grab the early edge. Andersen finished with 32 saves in his postseason debut for the Ducks, who used a 54-20-8 regular-season record -- the best in franchise history -- to secure the conferences top spot. "We let up a little bit in the third after our fourth goal, so this is a good lesson for us," said Andersen, who became the first rookie goaltender in club history to win his playoff debut. "Hopefully we can prevent that from happening again." Anaheim plans on sticking with Andersen in Game 2. Hiller led Anaheim with 50 appearances in net this season, but the veteran did not play in seven of Anaheims final eight regular-season games. Getzlaf and Beleskey each supplied a goal and an assist for the Ducks, with Kyle Palmieri and Mathieu Perreault supplying a goal apiece. Anaheims Teemu Selanne notched an assist for his 83rd career postseason point (42 goals, 41 assists) in 119 games. The 43-year-old future Hall of Famer plans on retiring at the end of the season. Jamie Benn and Colton Sceviour scored 1:33 apart late in the second to kick off Dallas valiant comeback effort. Sceviour added an assist on Benns goal while Kari Lehtonen allowed four goals on 35 shots for the Stars, who claimed the Wests second wild card spot to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2008. "We had a tough start," Benn admitted. "They came out hot in their building. They are really good in this rink. I thought we battled back pretty good there but it just wasnt enough." Benn and Sceviour were both making their playoff debuts, while the 22-year-old Seguin, a former Boston Bruin, now has 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) over 43 postseason contests. This series marks the third all-time playoff meeting between these clubs and first since the Stars bested the Ducks in six games during the 2008 Western Conference quarterfinals. After Game 2, the series will shift to Dallas for the next two meetings. The Stars will host Game 3 on Monday with Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday. Representatives from Hockey Canada, the Hockey Canada Foundation and Hockey Quebec were on hand Tuesday night at a meeting of the AHM de Lac-Mégantic to make the announcement and presentation.TSN football analyst Chris Schultz is back with his Week 1 selections in the NFL. The season starts off with the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks hosting the Green Bay Packers on Thursday and wraps up with a doubleheader on Monday night. Green Bay at Seattle (-6) I dont think the NFL could have picked a better game to kick off the season. Pass protection was a problem two years ago when Green Bay lost in Seattle on the controversial Golden Tate catch in the end zone. While it will still be an issue this year, I do think the Packers will be able to protect Aaron Rodgers better in this game. There has been a lot of attention paid to Marshawn Lynch and rightfully so, but do not underestimate the ability of Eddie Lacy. If, and it is a big if, he gets 100 yards, then I think the Packers win outright. The best wide receiver-defensive back matchup is Jordy Nelson and Richard Sherman. With both players now with excellent new contracts, the pressure is on to perform. The loss of BJ Raji is big for Green Bay and the depth must respond. I look for the Packers to play conservative on defence to keep Russell Wilson in the pocket and I look for Rodgers to use Lacy effectively. Seahawks win but I like the Packers on points. Green Bay New Orleans (-3) at Atlanta This is a tough one to pick because the vast majority of the time, one team wins or loses by three points. Did you know Sean Payton has a 13-3 record against the Falcons since becoming the Saints head coach in 2006? And this year, there is no Tony Gonzalez for Matt Ryan to depend on in critical red zone moments. This may be the most talented roster the Saints have had in the last eight years. With the addition of free agent Jairus Byrd and Kenny Vaccaro in his second year, the Saints defence is no longer a liability, it is an asset. As good as Payton is against Atlanta, Falcons head coach Mike Smith is 3-9 since 2008. The Falcons will be tougher as a personality priority this year but I will take the Saints defence over Matt Ryan in Week 1. New Orleans Minnesota at St. Louis (-3.5) The Vikings are coming off AN undefeated exhibition season but still it is Doubtful they will be a playoff team. I think Mike Zimmer will take pressure off quarterback Matt Cassel and run Adrian Peterson like never before. Minnesota must stay out of thirrd-and-long as the Rams have an exceptional pass rushing defensive front four. On the opposite side is Shaun Hill, who is not as good as Sam Bradford or he would have been the starter. Field goal game to me. Minnesota Cleveland at Pittsburgh (-6.5) Neither team has looked good over the exhibition season and history is not on the side of the Browns. The have won only one opening game since 1999 and Brian Hoyer is the seventh different opening day quarterback to start for Cleveland in the last eight years. The demise of the Steelers last year was the 0-4 start but the optimism was the 8-4 finish. Head coach Mike Tomlin will not experience an 0-4 start ever again. Cleveland will have to run the ball effectively and dominate time of possession to win but I cant see that happening. They were 4-12 last year and will probably be 4-12 this year. With Hoyer and Johnny Manziel up against the Steelers veteran defensive coodinator Dick Lebeau, I like Lebeau. This is the game that Cleveland really needed Josh Gordon and he wont be there. Pittsburgh Jacksonville at Philadelphia (-11.5) The Eagles should win but on opening week, 10 points is a lot. Jacksonvilles future is Blake Bortles at quarterback but Chad Henne should get the start. Henne has over 50 games of NFL experience so this weeks start is not too big for him. Gus Bradley is one of the new high energy coaches that can get his players to play better than their collective talent level. Theres no doubt the Eagles are more talented, but 10 extra talent points? Jacksonville Oakland at NY Jets (-5.5) I picked the Jets to finish last in the AFC East and now Im having second thoughts. They have a very good defensive front seven and it looks like Geno Smith is progressing at quarterback. You add the experience of Eric Decker and speed of Chris Johnson and the Jets do look formidable on paper. And they play a rookie starter at quarterback in Derek Carr. Exhibition is exhibition but once the regular season begins, inexperience matters. But, and this is significant, even if you add Carr and rookie Khalil Mack, believe it or not, the Raiders have the NFLs oldest roster. This is a risky pick but even though it is West coast to East coast and a rookie quarterback, I like the Raiders. Oakland Cincinnati at Baltimore (-1.5) Joe Flacco needs to have a great year. Andy Dalton also needs to have a great year. Both are being paid huge money and the pressure is on here in Week 1. The Ravens will miss Ray Rice but he only carried the ball five times in the exhibition season so they have had critical adjustment time. No offensive coordinator Jay Gruden in Cincinnati and no defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer with the Bengals either. They have moved to head coaching positions in Washington and Minnesota, respectively. Gary Kubiak runs a good offence and I think this year, Flacco will return to his Super Bowl form of two years ago. Baltimore Buffalo at Chicago (-7) I like the Bears by 10. The Bills offence has not looked good at all and if it did, then why did the organization sign Kyle Orton for big money? Chicago has three excellent, big receivers in Alshon Jeffery , Brandon Marshall as well as Martellus Bennett at tight end. And then they add Santonio Holmes, too? The third and fourth conerback or cover safety for the Bills has a challenge this week. And I forgot to mention running back Matt Forte. Chris Lindstrom Womens Jersey. Thats too much talent for the Bills to handle for four quarters. Chicago Washington (-3) at Houston In what may be the most bizarre statistic of truth in Week 1, the combined record of the Washington Redskins and the Houston Texans last year was 5-27. And the year before, both teams made the playoffs. With his new contract, JJ Watt will make an impact and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel has a very good team. But this Redskin team is not about RG3 or DeSean Jackson or Pierre Garcon, it is about Alfred Morris at running back. Also watch out for Lache Seastrunk, a sixth round pick out of Baylor. In the mold of Darren Sproles, he could be a surprise performer. There is a ton of pressure on Robert Griffin but he has been through this before, he can thrive. Ryan Fitzpatrick will start unless Ryan Mallett can assimilate a playbook in one week. Brilliant move by Bill OBrien to get a 65" quarterback with downfield arm power. Too much offence and too much Alfred Morris. Washington Tennessee at Kansas City (-4) Logic says KC rolls. Quarterback Alex Smith is monetarily happy and the best overall running back is Jamaal Charles but I like the key pass blocking advantage of Micheal Roos and Michael 0her against the Chiefs two excellent pass rushers in Tamba Hali and Justin Houston. Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt will have a plan together for noise control and any other challenges. Big, big year for Jake Locker no doubt about it. He has to stay healthy and has to stay confident and I think he will. KC in a field goal but that is all. Tennessee New England (-5.5) at Miami With an extra weekend to prepare, I like the Patriots by 7. Head coach Bill Belichick will always know something we dont in trading Logan Mankins to Tampa Bay. The Bucs get one of the tough guys in football and the Patriots get depth at tight end. Odd but I am sure it was a football decision. With Rob Gronkowski, Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo all back and up-and-coming linebacker Jamie Collins, this could be a really good Patriots defence, and dont forget Darrelle Revis at cornerback. Who will have a bigger game? Revis or Mike Wallace? I say Patriots cover. New England Carolina (-2.5) at Tampa Bay A lot of people are optimistic the Bucs will have a good year and I think it is good and real optimism. First, broken ribs is always an issue for any player and no different for Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. And although #1 pick Kelvin Benjamin looks great at 65" and 245lbs, the Bus have three of those types in Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans and tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Defensively, Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith will simply will let his athletes on defence play with speed. Upset of the week. Tampa Bay San Francisco (-5) at Dallas The Dallas Cowboys have major problems opn defence. If they didnt, why would they add defensive end Micheal Sam and why are they even interested in reinstating Josh Brent? Last year, they allowed 415 yards per game and are missing three starters from that defence. And here come the 49ers with the leagues best power running game in both complexity and commitment. The 49ers may be able to win this one on time of possession alone. On offence, Dallas has an improved line, a good running back in DeMarco Murray and a game-changer in Dez Bryant. But where Tony Romo wants to keep it close going into the fourth quarter, Colin Kaepernick will try to win it early by himself or with Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis, Stevie Johnson, Frank Gore or rookie power runner Carlos Hyde. No Sean Lee, no DeMarcus Ware, no Jason Hatcher, no Orlando Scandrick; I say no way. San Francisco Indianapolis at Denver (-7.5) I remember Thursday Night Football last year when the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens came into Sports Authority Field at Mile High and Denver beat them 49-27. This year, it will be Sunday Night Football and it is the Colts at the same Sports Authority Field at Mile High and I anticipate the same result. The Colts will not have their best pass rusher in Robert Mathis available and dont think Peyton Manning, in his 17th year, doesnt realize more than ever the time is now. Denver spent money in free agency knowing time is not on the side of the Broncos. It truly is a now or never football year. Denver NY Giants at Detroit (-5.5) The Giants, and especially quarterback Eli Manning, looked terrible all preseason long. And as everything has stayed the same under Tom Coughlin, the Lions made a bold move in hiring Jim Caldwell. Players respond to Caldwell and his head coaching presence will make a difference. Where in a moments notice Matthew Stafford to Calvin Johnson will produce success, I am not sure Manning to Victor Cruz can do the same. The Giants could win by dominating in time of possession and that is possible as running back Rashad Jennings is proven, draftee Andre Williams is going to surprise and the offensive line is totally rebuilt with a new offensive coordinator. But I like the Lions to cover the spread. Detroit San Diego at Arizona (-3) The Chargers are one of my darkhorse teams of the year, and even though they are playing a top Cardinals defence, Philip Rivers is coming off a career year. The three running backs, Donald Brown, Ryan Matthews and Danny Woodhead are all interchangeable and a distinct rushing advantage for San Diego. In Year 2 of Rivers and head coach Mike McCoy, there is no reason not to think success will start early and continue through the season. I see more points for the Chargers over Cardinals by the end of the night. San Diego ' ' '

College Park, MD (SportsNetwork. Blake Comeau Stars Jersey .com) - Coming off a pair of tough losses last week, the Syracuse Orange will try to put an end to their first losing skid of the season when they pay a visit to the Maryland Terrapins at the Comcast Center on Monday night in Atlantic Coast Conference action. You catch all of the action live on TSN at 7pm et./4pm pt. Syracuse was cruising right along with wins in each of its first 25 games, but after a shocking home loss to Boston College last Wednesday (62-59), it ventured to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday and battled wire-to-wire with Duke before losing 66-60 following a controversial ending that resulted in head coach Jim Boeheims ejection. At 12-2 in the ACC, the Orange have slid out of the drivers seat in the league standings, as they are a game and a half behind Virginia for first place (14-1). Maryland sports a 15-12 overall record this season with a decisive split between its success at home (10-3) compared to on the road (2-7). The Terps snapped a two-game skid last Tuesday when they took care of business versus Wake Forest, 71-60, their third straight home win, improving to 7-7 in the ACC. Maryland leads the all-time series with Syracuse, 5-2, although the sides havent met since 2008. With the Orange trailing by two points with 11 seconds remaining, C.J. Fair was called for a charge on what appeared to be a borderline call. It caused Boeheim to lose his temper, receive two technical fouls and get ejected from the game. Duke converted 3-of-4 at the line following the technicals to effectively put the game away. The squad struggled shooting in the hostile road environment, making less than 39 percent of it field goal tries, including just 2-of-9 from 3-point range. Jerami Grant posted team highs in points (17) and rebounds (eight), Fair finished with 12 points and Tyler Ennis was dreadful from the floor (2-of-13) but still had nine points, six assists and four steals. Syracuses offense has been far from spectacular this season, as it shoots a modest 44.6 percent from the field for 69.2 ppg, but it has risen to elite status thanks to its excellent defense, which ranks seventh nationally in allowing only 58.6 ppg. It also lives comfortably in terms of its rebounding (+4.0) and turnover (+4.9) margins, with the latter ranking eighth-best in the country. Fair pours in a team-high 16.4 ppg and grabs 6.0 rpg. Trevor Cooney (13.0 ppg) does the majority of his damage from 3-point range, knocking down 77 long-range buckets at a 41.4 percent clip. Grant (12.6 ppg, 7.2 rpg) is another staple in the frontcourt, and Ennis (11.7 ppg, 5.7 apg) has made a name for himself as a clutch playmaker as a freshman. The Terps carried a five-point lead into intermission of their most recent game and extended their advantage to as many as 16 down the stretch en route to the easy victory over Wake Forest. Although they were outshot from the field on the evening, 47.1 percent to 42.6 percent, they outscored the Deacons from 3-point range, 24-9, and scored 18 points off of 18 Wake turnovers. Nick Faust was the spark plug off the bench with 20 points, while Charles Mitchell and Jake Layman scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, and Seth Allen and Evan Smotrycz netted 10 points apiece. Maryland has been able to successfully outpace its opponents this season, as it shoots 43.9 percent from the field for 71.8 ppg, while allowing 68.5 ppg on just 42.4 percent shooting. One of its biggest strengths comes on the glass with a +3.9 rebounding margin, but it is oftentimes held back by a lackluster free-throw percentage (.663). Dez Wells is the go-to scoring option with 14.8 ppg on greater than 48 percent field-goal shooting. Layman (12.1 ppg), Allen (12.0 ppg), Smotrycz (11.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg) and Faust (10.1 ppg) round out the balanced attack and all four player have drained at least 33 3-pointers. Dallas Stars Jerseys . The Grand Prixs future in Montreal was secured with the help of substantial governmental investment: $62 million from the federal government, $50 million from Quebec, $62 million from Tourisme Montreal and at least $32 million from the City of Montreal. Montreal mayor Denis Coderre was on hand at the racetrack on Ile Sainte-Helene for the announcement on Saturday morning, alongside ministers of infrastructure and transport from the provincial and federal governments. "This is the place to be this weekend, and this is the place to be for the next 10 years," said Coderre, who worked on the deal for several months with Formula One. "The Canadian Grand Prix is part and parcel of Montreal. It is one of the big international events that builds on Montreals outstanding reputation and ranks it among the worlds great cities." As a condition to the agreements success, the City of Montreal also agreed to renovate the track, including making improvements to the team paddocks, the control tower, and the on-site medical centre, for which it will spend $25 million to $40 million. Coderre promised work would begin this fall and would be completed in time for the 2017 Canadian Grand Prix. "The importance of this showcase to Montreal is beyond measure," said the mayor. "If Montreal wants to present itself as a metropolis, and join the ranks of other great cities around the world, we have to maintain this high level of authority. Its our signature. Its part of our DNA. It is one of the big international events that builds on Montreals outstanding reputation." The deal is big. Montreals Formula One weekend attracts visitors from around the world, and repeatedly rakes in roughly $70 million to $90 million a year. It is broadcast in 150 countries and watched by approximately 300 million viewers worldwide. And its not just great for the City of Montreal, says former-F1 champiion Jacques Villeneuve. Jon Casey Stars Jersey. . Beyond the dollars and cents, Villeneuve believes the track named after his father is simply one of the most exciting in the world from a racing standpoint. "Its great for the teams and the drivers because its a fun track," he said on Friday in anticipation of the announcement. "Its a good venue. Everybody likes coming here. They come in a few days early. Its party time all week. Theres good energy." Villeneuve ranked Montreal as one of the top-four racing destinations, together with Monaco, Melbourne, and Singapore. "Its one of the few races that look different, where theres action," he said. "If you look at the modern tracks, you could be anywhere. They all look the same. And you fall asleep on your couch. Its one of those few that you need to keep on the calendar to keep Formula One special." Circuit Gilles Villeneuve -- all 4.3 kilometres of it -- is known for its sharp hairpin turn after the pit area, early safety cars, its tight Senna curves, and the kilometre-long straightaway along the Olympic basin that allows for speeds up to 300 kilometres per hour. Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel, who finished third behind Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in Saturdays qualifying session, says Montreal is one of his favourite races of the year. "Its one of the few places in the calendar where the whole city really parties all weekend long and embraces the Grand Prix and really appreciates it," he said. "For us, thats a great feeling, to stand on the grid and have so many fans during the drivers parade and when you race. Seeing the full grandstands makes your job extra special." "Its a great track, the fans are fantastic, so enthusiastic," added Rosberg. "Im very happy and Im sure everybody else is that well be coming here more often in the future." Notes: This year marks the 35th running of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. The race gets underway Sunday afternoon. a In 2009, Montreal was removed from the F1 season when the provincial government refused to pay more to renew the race. CARDIFF -- Cardiff fired manager Malky Mackay on Friday following a destabilizing power struggle with owner Vincent Tan. Deion Sanders Youth Jersey . The Scotsman was dismissed only five days after being told by the club he would remain in charge for the "foreseeable future." But despite that assurance, there was a caveat that Mackay had to heal his rift with Tan, which seemed unlikely given the owners apparent refusal to meet with him in recent months. The Malaysian owner and Mackay clashed over the dismissal of head of recruitment Iain Moody in October. And Mackays future at the south Wales club seemed to be doomed when he received an ultimatum last week from Tan to resign or be fired in an email that listed grievances against the manager. The lingering uncertainty over Mackays future fuelled protests against Tans running of the club at matches, with the tensions overshadowing Cardiffs first season in the Premier League. Now the team is in a struggle to stay in the league, with a loss to Southampton on Wednesday leaving them only a point above the relegation zone. Tan fired Mackay on the eve of Saturdays match against last-place Sunderland. "The Board of Directors at Cardiff City Football Club have today relieved Malky Mackay of his duties," the club statement said Friday. "A new first team manager will be appointed and announced in due course." The bookmakers favourite for the job is former Manchester United forward Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, who has established himself as a manager in his home country of Norway, winning the league twice with Molde. It was just a statement. "Corey Linsley is our starting centre," the Green Bay Packers coach said. "So, obviously, we feel good about where is." That McCarthy didnt feel the need to give his rookie fifth-round pick a public vote of confidence before his NFL regular-season debut was telling, given what Linsley is up against. He is starting in place of injured JC Tretter without having had a single snap with quarterback Aaron Rodgers in preseason play. He will be playing in the loudest stadium in the NFL, CenturyLink Field. He is facing the defending Super Bowl-champion Seattle Seahawks, who had the NFLs best defence a season ago. And he will do it on national television, in the NFL Kickoff game. You can watch the game live on TSN1, TSN3, TSN4 and TSN5 on Thursday at 8:30pm et/5:30pm pt. But given his quiet, do-the-job approach, the feeling among Linsleys teammates is that he wont be fazed by any of it. "He doesnt seem to get rattled. Mentally, hes sharp. Hes not a real fired up guy, hes not a real hyper guy. Hes just kind of a calm, collected guy. Nothing seems to really get to him," said No. 2 quarterback Matt Flynn, who spent much of the preseason working with Linsley, including Thursdays preseason finale when they started together. "Thats been impressive, the way hes been able to just jump in. "(The coaches told him), All right, youre the starter, so he just quietly walked up there and started taking reps. Hes been impressive. JC was a big loss. We all felt comfortable with him. But Corey has done a great job." Linsley is so cool about his new gig that he was even able to crack a well-delivered joke to reporters around his locker earlier this week. As he faced a series of questions about the ooft-discussed noise in Seattle, he named Nebraska and Wisconsin as the two places where the crowds were the most challenging during his college career at Ohio State. Takkarist McKinley Womens Jersey. Then, he zinged the schools biggest rival. "Michigan is quiet, really quiet. Probably the quietest stadium in the Big Ten," he said to laughter. It wont be quiet on Thursday night, and itll be Linsleys job to get to the line of scrimmage quickly and make the initial declarations based on what he sees from the Seattle defence. "Its all about the preparation and the week leading up to it. Its week-by-week no matter what level of football youre in," Linsley said. "You cant go back and say, Thats what we did against Wisconsin last year. It isnt going to work at Green Bay. So its all about the preparation. "(The primary job is) just getting everybody on the same page as quickly as possible. If everybody knows where the starting point is and they dont like the starting point, they can adjust it from there." The Packers plan to use their no-huddle offence extensively against Seattle, having spent the off-season and training camp working on it. But during the preseason finale against Kansas City with Linsley at centre, they ran by unofficial count only three snaps of no-huddle with Linsley on the field. Not only will Rodgers not have had a single in-game snap with Linsley before, but they will never have operated in the no-huddle together, either. "Coreys a smart guy. Hes played a lot of centre in his time and hes going to be expected to play well. So we expect him to be able to keep up," Rodgers said. "Ive said it a lot, but hes got two incredible guards on both sides of him who are going to help him out with the calls and make sure that hes ready. But Corey is going to study hard, hes very well-coached and hes going to be ready to go." ' ' '

Calgary Flames president of hockey operations and acting general manager Brian Burke says he expects a flurry of trade activity

Calgary Flames president of hockey operations and acting general manager Brian Burke says he expects a flurry of trade activity around the league prior to next Wednesdays NHL trade deadline. Derek Fisher Jersey . "Absolutely. Theres a lot of chatter," Burke told TSN. "There are a lot of teams that think if they can add that one player it would make a difference for them making the playoffs or winning a round or winning another round, and those are huge financially impacted teams." Burke, who has also been general manager of the Hartford Whalers, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, and Toronto Maple Leafs, rates the next week as a bit of a waiting game pending the possible movement of a few key players around the league. "Teams are waiting to see where a couple of other players go. I think the (Thomas) Vanek and (Matt) Moulson situations affect when our players come into play, so its been pretty quiet but its picking up now," explained Burke. Burke had no news regarding Mike Cammalleris tenure with the Flames. He confirmed that without a new contract in place the 31-year-old remains a tradable commodity. "There are no new developments. Ive met with Cammalleri and his agent, Ian Pulver. Weve extended a contract offer and weve agreed to keep talking, but as of right now were entertaining offers." The Flames acting general manager was asked what type of players he would pursue in a trade situation. "We would like to get a player who will help us right away, and if that is not possible then our next choice is a player who is close to playing that we think could make us better next year. And if not, we would look at draft choices," said Burke. Burke discussed the prospect of there being any players in Calgary that he would not be willing to trade. "I think your list of untouchables should be real short when you are where we are in the standings, and it is real short," he explained. "As I say, Wayne Gretzky got traded so Im not sure theres anything as a real untouchable if you got the right offer. "But a couple of guys, starting with Sean Monahan who is the real deal, and our captain (Mark Giordano) have been terrific. Those would probably be the ones." Burke was also asked if there was any chance he will still be general manager of the Flames at the beginning of next season. "Not a chance," he stated. Michael Cooper Jersey . DALLAS -- Rich Peverley doesnt know when he and his doctors will decide whether he can resume his career after he collapsed during a game because of an irregular heartbeat. The Dallas Stars arent going to press their 31-year-old forward for an answer, either. Peverley said Tuesday he would have to undergo testing that would include workouts to elevate his heart rate. "Im not sure where that will be," Peverley said before he and his teammates scattered for the summer after a first-round playoff loss to Anaheim. "That will have to be the first thing." Coach Lindy Ruff and general manager Jim Nill said all decisions would be up to Peverley and his doctors. Training camp is about five months away. "Thats a situation I look back on and thats totally in Richs hands -- Richs hands and the doctors hands," Ruff said. "Sometimes I look at it that its in Gods hands too." Peverley went down on the bench early in a game against Columbus on March 10 and had to be revived by medical personnel at the arena. "Just being able to help out with the team somehow, it felt like I was accomplishing something," Peverley said. The Stars acquired Peverley and leading scorer Tyler Seguin from Boston in an off-season trade. Peverley has a year left on his contract. "Well wait for the doctors," Nill said. "Theyve got medical things they have to take care of. Once we kind of figure that out, I think well sit down with Rich and kind of decide the game plan moving forward from there." ' ' '

Serena, a five-time Aussie champion, came back to down 26th-seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Venus, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, topped talented Italian Camila Giorgi, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. It was a rough start for Serena, who fell behind 5-2 in the first set, but then won the next two games. Svitolina came back to hold at love the next game to take the set. The final two sets were completely different, as the 18-time Grand Slam champion and reigning U.S. Open queen won the first four games of the second and throttled her opponent in the third. My next match Im just going to have a longer warmup, more intense warmup. But as long as I was able to come through today, I can always have an opportunity for tomorrow, Serena said. There was a brief opening for Svitolina in the third game of the final set, but she blew a pair of break point chances. Revenge could be a factor in Serenas next match. She was the defending champion headed into the 2014 French Open, but lost in the second round to Spains Garbine Muguruza. Muguruza, the 24th seed here, set up her match with Serena with a win over Switzerlands Timea Bacsinszky, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. It was a good loss, Serena said of her loss to Muguruza. It opened my eyes towards a lot of things. Venus was two points away from losing the match to Giorgi, but then rallied. Giorgi double-faulted 16 times. This will be the first time Venus has reached the round-of-16 at a major since Wimbledon 2011. Its definitely been a lot of work and a lot of learning and a lot of perseverance, Venus said. The Avalanche are likely to start Varlamov in the second contest of a four- game homestand tonight and he has gone 6-3-1 with a 2.56 GAA in 11 previous encounters with the Jets franchise.
