Brent Hayden knows photography almost as well as he knows his way around the pool. So if he were the subject of a portrait at the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games, hes got his personal preferences. "I would say the camera should shoot from chest level, so youre not looking up my nose, but also, not having to look up and making me look short. If you shoot it at chest level, it kind of makes the person less intimidating. You just kind of look normal," said Hayden, breaking off talk about the pool to indulge in his other love. "I like pictures that get a little bit more creative with composition. So I would say put me to one side or the other and shoot a horizontal format. Thats how I would like to shoot." In the water, the picture is quite clear for Hayden and some of Canadas other swimming medal hopefuls. Hayden is hoping to qualify to compete in his third (and possibly last) Olympic Games, however youll notice that the one omission from his otherwise stellar resume is an Olympic medal. For teammate Ryan Cochrane, who put himself on the map in Beijing 2008 by claiming Canadas first medal in the pool since 2000, the expectations are enormous the second time around. These expectations are coming not just from the general public, but from Cochrane himself. On the other end of the spectrum is Martha McCabe, who is still looking to book her space for London 2012 and is hoping to build on her breakthrough performance at the FINA World Championships in Shanghai earlier this year. It doesnt particularly matter where exactly they are in their careers. By the time they get to London, theyll all have something to prove when they line up in the starters blocks. "Its something Ive dreamed about since I was a little girl," said McCabe, who will attempt to earn her Olympic spot at the Canadian Olympic trials in Montreal beginning March 27. "I dont know what the Olympics are going to be like. "Ive got an idea going to the World Championships a few times, but I think that having it as a bit of a surprise is part of the excitement." A bronze medalist in the 200m breaststroke at the 2011 Worlds, McCabe said she would like to maintain or better that position at the Olympics. If she did, it would mark the first time a Canadian woman has won a swimming medal since 1996, when Marianne Limpert took silver in the 200 metre individual medley in Atlanta. While it was a pleasant surprise to see Cochrane claim the bronze medal in the 1500m freestyle at Beijing 2008, he is now considered a strong contender to reach the podium again at London 2012. In FINAs most recent world rankings (Nov. 2010), he is listed as the top-ranked swimmer in the 1500m freestyle. The Victoria, BC native has his sights set on the highest step – something thats been brewing over the past four years. "Going to Beijing, me and my coach had the expectation of being on the podium," he said. "Once I got on the podium, I was pissed, because I wanted to be on the top of the podium. Im standing there getting my Olympic medal, which should be, you know, the happiest moment of my sporting career, and I was just annoyed with myself. "So, carrying that feeling the last four years, knowing that I dont want to feel that way after London I want no regrets in the pool, and I want a race that I can really be proud of." Haydens previous two trips to the Olympics have been marred by both violence and unmet expectations. At the tail end of Athens 2004, Hayden (then 19) and some of his teammates were mistakenly assaulted by police when they accidentally got caught in the middle of a protest. That jarring experience was followed by his experience at Beijing 2008. Expectations of bringing home a medal were high for Hayden, who entered the competition as the co-world champion title-holder in the 100m freestyle; however he struggled badly, placing no better than fifth in his five races. He also failed to qualify for the 100m freestyle final, finishing a distant 14th. "I think the first Olympics I was really overwhelmed by the Olympic aura. I kind of got sucked into it and got kind of lost," said Hayden, who was a double gold medallist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the 50m and 100m freestyle. "In Beijing, being the co-world champion, I went in there with a lot of confidence, and I think I was too confident. I had a really good heat swim. I think that kind of just fed that ego. That semifinal, I went in thinking it would be a walk in the park, Ill just swim this and get into the final. Well, a lot of people swam faster – they were willing to work a little bit harder than I was in that moment. "These Olympics now, Im not going to let that happen again. Thats basically it." Cochrane can also now draw on that previous Olympic experience, which he believes will prove invaluable when he gets to London. "Its going to exponentially help, I think. Going into Beijing, I had no idea what to expect," he said. "I know into London, its really not about getting excited too early. Its about really focusing until that one day when I race and represent our country." That determination and preparation is not lost on their younger teammate. "I know that theyre just regular guys. And I know theyre getting to where they are – which is a successful point – by training very hard and taking care of every little aspect of their life," McCabe said. "During an Olympic year, all of that is magnified. Every single little thing counts, even more this year. I see it and I realize what it takes. "Im eager, but I know at the same time that I have a lot of training that I still have to do." Its the type of effort that could potentially land all three in the winners circle. If so, that is music to the ears of Swim Canada who have targeted a minimum of three medal performances in the pool at London 2012. Hayden sees no better goodbye to the sport he loves. "I think being able to cap everything off with a medal is the best way I can imagine going out," Hayden said. "People always say go out with a bang. As cliché as that sounds, everybody wants to go out that way." That would make quite the photo op - especially if shot at chest level. General manager Doug Whaley provided the update in a statement released by the team on Wednesday, a day after Alonso was hurt while working out in Oregon. Whaley said Alonso will require surgery to repair a torn ACL, and "will likely miss the 2014 season." The Bills did not provide any details as to how Alonso was hurt. The injury is a significant blow to the Bills before they even open training camp in suburban Rochester on July 20. Alonso was an NFL defensive rookie of the year contender last season after being drafted in the second round out of Oregon. He led Buffalo with 159 tackles, two fumble recoveries and tied for the team lead with four interceptions while barely missing a snap in playing all 16 games. After playing in the middle last season, Alonso was moving to the outside linebacker spot as part of the Bills shift to a 4-3 defensive scheme under new co-ordinator Jim Schwartz.dddddddddddd The position switch was also sparked in part by the Bills signing of run-stopping specialist Brandon Spikes, who is better suited to play in the middle. Alonso had hip surgery this off-season, which limited him in participating in spring practices. But he was expected to be ready for the start of camp. "We feel badly for Kiko, because he has worked very hard this off-season in preparation for the upcoming season," Whaley said. "But we look forward to his return with his style of play that made him one of the leagues outstanding rookies in 2013." The Bills do have some depth behind Alonso. Manny Lawson, an eight-year NFL veteran, has experience playing the position. The Bills also selected linebacker Preston Brown in the third round of the draft in April. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

DENVER - Carlos Gonzalezs fifth-inning base hit didnt land far from Arizona right fielder Gerardo Parra, who held him to a single with a quick throw to second base. Trouble is, D.J. LeMahieu, running on the pitch, was about to score all the way from first. The relay from shortstop Chris Owings beat LeMahieu to the plate, but catcher Miguel Montero couldnt hang onto the low throw and LeMahieu slid across with the go-ahead run. Rockies manager Walt Weiss praised both LeMahieu and third base coach Stu Cole. "D.J.s got to give Stu the opportunity to wave him and thats what he did. He never slowed down and gave Stu the opportunity to make a gutsy call," Weiss said after Colorados come-from-behind 9-4 victory Saturday night. "It still seemed like we had the runner beat with the throw but we didnt hold on to it," manager Kirk Gibson lamented after the Diamondbacks fourth straight loss left them with a 1-7 record and their worst start in franchise history. "It was a pressure play they put on us. We didnt execute it." Gonzalez was as surprised as the D-Backs were when he looked back and saw LeMahieu huffing for home. "It was awesome, a heads-up play," Gonzalez said. "Parra kind of falls asleep in right field thinking that I was going to go to second base, throws the ball to second base, D.J. never stopped and that was the go-ahead run, that was what we needed. And once again, the bullpen did an amazing job tonight holding the opposing team and we just kept scoring runs." After falling behind 4-0, the Rockies scored the games final nine runs for their second straight blowout of the reeling D-Backs. Nolan Arenado homered twice for his first career multi-homer game, Michael Cuddyer went deep, rookie right-hander Tommy Kahnle picked up his first major league victory, Charlie Blackmon went 3 for 4, tying the Rockies franchise record with nine hits in consecutive games, and Colorado snapped Paul Goldschmidts 26-game hitting streak that was the longest in the majors. Yet, it was LeMahieus hustle play that truly epitomized the Rockies successful night. Its the kind of aggressiveness on the base paths Weiss has been preaching about all spring that will be required of his team if the Rockies are going to have the kind of season their owner thinks they can. He predicted a 90-win season in the competitive NL West. Never looking back, LeMahieu didnt see where Gonzalez had hit the ball, "but I could kind of see by Stus body language that if something happened, if he bobbled it or whatever, that we could take an extra base there. It was a great call by him." Gonzalez praised both Cole and LeMahieu with his most improbable of RBIs. "He thanked me for my hustle and getting him that RBI," LeMahieu said with a chuckle. "It feels good as a teammate to pick up an RBI for a guy like that." That hustle also benefited Kahnle (1-0), who was selected in the 2013 Rule 5 draft from the New York Yankees. He pitched 1 2-3 innings of one-hit ball in relief of starter Jorge De La Rosa, who struggled through his second straight start. Brandon McCarthy (0-1) surrendered six earned runs on seven hits in six innings for Arizona. The Rockies fell behind 4-0 before scoring three times in the fourth and twice in the fifth to take the lead. De La Rosa allowed four runs, three of them earned, on four hits. He struggled through a 42-pitch, 21-minute first inning but only gave up one run on Martin Prados double into the left-field corner that scored Goldschmidt from first. He also gave up a two-run homer to Mark Trumbo, his fourth, in the third inning. Notes: Goldschmidt went 0-for-2 with two walks. ... Blackmons nine hits in two games tied the franchise mark set by Juan Pierre in 2002. ... Trumbo now has four home runs and 11 RBIs in five career games at Coors Field. ... I thoroughly enjoyed March Madness, both the mens and womens versions. For three weeks in the early days of the spring season, I renew my subscription with college basketball and am edutained on all things March Madness. It is a time that engendered work morale spikes, rooted in imperfect bracket predictions and the chance that overworked, underpaid employees will cash out on an office pool lottery built from their very own desk change cups and afternoon Tim Hortons coffee run allotments. Mini hoops get hung on office doors for impromptu paper ball dunk contests and great plays are re-enacted by local news crews unable to air highlights of the very sport they cover because of the hierarchy of money structured agreements between the NCAA and its multiple March Madness broadcast partners. A bevy of hungry, wide-eyed teams. More Networks. Too many credit card commercials. Too Much Dick Vitale. Not Enough Bill Raftery. No Gus Johnson. Countless floor burns. Multiple tears. Clutch shots. One epic dance. One dream realized. Who knew a school from the former and now defunct Yankee Conference would be one of the most dominant basketball programs in college history? Combined, the University of Connecticut mens and womens teams have been in the NCAA Tournament final game 13 times. Theyve never lost. Ever. I watched as Geno Auriemma and his Lady Huskies won their ninth title in 19 years, defeating Notre Dame easily and once again lording over the womens game with whispers and questions rattling The ladies college hoops kings cage about whether or not his talents could be applied similarly in the mens game. I saw Guelph, Ontarios and Notre Dame senior forward Natalie Achonwa, thrice a bridesmaid, never the bride in the NCAA final, have to endure the insult of her team once again losing a chance at glory and an undefeated season to the schoolyard bully in UConn, in part due to suffering a devastating knee injury during the Elite Eight game that ended her season and college career. I was not in shock or awe that Derrick Gordon, starting guard from the University of Massachusetts, a school where I created and once taught the worlds first university accredited course on hip-hop culture, now also has the distinction of having the first Division I male basketball player to come out as openly gay. I viewed a March Madness tournament where Canadian lights shone brightly in fellow freshmen Kansas Andrew Wiggins and Syracuses Tyler Ennis, senior Melvin Ejim of Iowa State, Michigan sophomore Nik Stauskas and more. Their play shined a collective light on the immense talents north of the 49th parallel who contributed in meaningful ways during the Tournament and offered hope and confidence for young Canadian hoop stars to follow. I reveled in UConn mens coach Kevin Ollies victory over John Caliparis Kentucky Wildcats, despite picking the new Fab Five freshmen from Lexington to win it all on my TSN Radio basketball program, #1On1 with Will and Duane. And the revelry was not rooted in a dislike for Coach Cals crew. The joy was in the knowledge that, 30 years after Georgetowns John Thompson became the first black man to win an NCAA title with a team full of inner city black kids, possibly influenced by the lure of profit from a new player in the illicit drug trade called crack and the music of an emerging and grossly misunderstood subculture called hip-hop, Kevin Ollie joined Thompson, newly minted Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Nolan Richardson and Tubby Smith as the only black coaches to ever win the national title. My merriment was quelled, however, by the admission of the tournaments Most Outstanding Player, UConn senior PG Shabazz Napier. As initially reported by CNNs Sara Ganim, Napiers statement was stunning. “I dont feel student-athletes should get hundreds of thousands of dollars, but like I said, there are hungry nights that I go to bed and Im starving," he said. "I just feel like a student-athlete, and sometimes, like I said, theres hungry nights and Im not able to eat and I still got to play up to my capabilities.” I observed a game with multi-billion dollar stakes in which the players have no financial stake due to the draconian statutes of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, which still has them reaching for “One Shining Moment” as the UConn mens program fails to graduate more than eight per cent of its starving, underfed players. I then pondered former March Madness champ and UCLA forward Ed OBannons lawsuit against the NCAA, the Northwestern University athletes who won their fight to unionize against the NCAA and Jalen Roses youthful revelation years ago on how he and his Fab Five teammates were being flagrantly exploited by the NCAA and its corporate stakeholders while a star at Michigan. It occurred to me that the 2013-2014 mens final was possibly a referendum on the future of college basketball profiteering: Caliparis "one and done" regime versus the NCAAs preferred method of currency exchange with the NBA - keeping the student-athletes on campus playing this game for as long as possible. NBA Commissioner Adam Silvers wish to subsidize collegiate student-athletes in order to keep the collusive financial arrangement with the NCAA as close to status quo, without hemorrhaging too much blood, seems relatively progressive at cursory glance. And the new commishs potential good fortune to place a positive stamp on his early tenure may be rooted in Napiers hunger. ESPNs Darren Rovell recently reported that Adam Silver is willing to trade markers with the NCAA, its student-athletes and the NBAPA with concessions on all sides to make the vehicle move. "Rather than focusing on a salary and thinking of them as employees, I would go to their basic necessities," said Silver. "I think if Shabazz Napier is saying he is going hungry, my God, it seems hard to believe, but there should be ample food for the players." Commissioner Silver wants to raise the NBA entry age limit from 19 to 20 and may be able to do so in exchange for his college player subsidy initiative. Silvers very public overtures about changes that can be made to an archaic, rotted NCAA system run by that cabals boss, Dr. Mark Emmert, who, naturally, is vehemently opposed to any sort of compensation for student-athletes, a term created to protect the schools and NCAA itself against the liability of paying workers compensation for injured “student-athletes,” are encouraging, even in theory. But what about offering a “bare necessities” cost of living stipend, daily meal per diems and limited injury insurance to these young men, who may or may not be ready for the fine hardwood courts of the National Basketball Association, but wish to ply their trade professionally? Is it possible for these young men to also get an education with the same subsidies Commissioner Silver is suggesting for the NCAA by giving these monies to the NBAs already-established minor league, the National Basketball Development League? No matter the motivations of Adam Silver, it would seem that the winds of change are on the horizon for intercollegiate athletics and its long partnership with professional sport to finally call it what it really is now. So yeah… Thats what I learned during March Madness this year. I can only hope you learned some things, too. Still, Inter moved one point ahead of Parma in the race for fifth place and the final Europa League spot. Udinese remained 14th, 11 points above the relegation zone. Inter was beaten 2-1 by Atalanta at home on Sunday and has won only seven of 16 matches at the San Siro this season, as the squad seems to still be searching for its identity under new owner Erick Thohir and first-year manager Walter Mazzarri. Before the Atalanta match, Inter was on a six-match unbeaten run. The draw was all the more surprising since Udinese left former Italy forward Antonio Di Nataale on the bench.dddddddddddd Scuffet denied Inter playmaker Hernanes twice and also stopped a late effort from Esteban Cambiasso. It was a performance that could put him in discussion for the third goalkeeper spot on Italys World Cup squad behind Juventus Gianluigi Buffon and Paris Saint-Germains Salvatore Sirigu. "Hes doing great. The future is on his side," Udinese coach Francesco Guidolin said. "Hes humble and hasnt lost his head." Udinese defender Maurizio Domizzi preserved the draw with an acrobatic clear off the line when Scuffet appeared beaten by a close-range effort from Danilo DAmbrosio in the 88th minute. MONTREAL -- Zarek Valentin limped onto the field for the end of the Montreal Impacts practice Monday but the right fullback appears doubtful to play in an Amway Canadian Championship match against Toronto FC. Coach Jesse Marsch said Valentin has a bruised right calf and will be evaluated day to day. If he cant go, Jeb Brovsky is likely to start when the Impact face visiting TFC on Wednesday night. "Hell be fine but we have to wait it out," Marsch said of Valentin, who took over the position from Brovsky after returning from duty with the U.S. under-23 team. Valentin was hurt in the second half of Montreals 2-0 victory over Portland on Saturday, but he was able to finish the match. It may be the only change in the starting 11. Marsch said the club is making the Canadian Championship a priority. Sporting director Nick De Santis addressed the players before practice about the games importance. "Were definitely putting a heavy emphasis on the Canadian Championship," said Marsch. "As an organization, its been something that has brought them a lot of success and notoriety in the city. "Nick let them know this is something very important to the club so were going to make sure from top to bottom that we address this competition in a real way. "Were going to go with a lot of our regular guys that weve been using," he said before adding with a laugh: "Dont tell Toronto." The winner of the Canadian Championship earns a berth in the CONCACAF Champions League. The Impacts finest moment came in 2009 when it reached the quarter-final and won the first leg 2-0 before more than 55,000 at Olympic Stadium before losing in the return leg to Santos Laguna of Mexico. The victory over Portland improved their home record to two wins and a draw, including their first MLS win over Toronto on April 7. BALTIMORE -- On a night when Baltimore struggled to get hits against Texas young right-hander making his first major league start, the Orioles simply stayed patient and eventually broke through against the Rangers bullpen. Adam Jones and Ryan Flaherty hit solo homers and Baltimore beat Texas for the third consecutive game, 6-4 on Wednesday. The Rangers have lost eight consecutive road games, their longest drought since 2005. Baltimore stayed within one game of first-place Toronto, which beat Milwaukee 7-4, earlier Wednesday. The Orioles (45-39) moved six games over .500, equaling a season-high. "That was really impressive," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "That was one of the more impressive things Ive seen, to be able to bring that intensity into a game like that. The whole group, I was real proud of them tonight." The game was delayed 1 hour and 38 minutes because of rain in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jones hit his 16th home run of the season and had three RBIs. Flaherty, who started at third base in place of the suspended Manny Machado, hit his fourth homer of the season and also made several nice defensive plays. Baltimore has homered in 12 consecutive games. Orioles right-hander Brad Brach (2-0) entered in the sixth and earned the victory by throwing 1 1-3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Zach Britton earned his 11th save with a perfect ninth. Texas Miles Mikolas was effective in his first major league start. He allowed three runs and three hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 5 1-3 innings. Texas (37-47) has used 11 starting pitchers this year, most in the American League. The Rangers have lost 13 of their past 16 games. "It was a lot of fun being out there," Mikolas said. "I thought I pitched a pretty good game up until the fifth. Then, I had some trouble with some walks. Things kind of didnt go our way after that." Staked to a 4-1 lead, Mikolas walked Nick Markakis and Steve Pearce with one out in the sixth. Jason Frasor entered and allowed a sacrifice fly to Jones and an RBI single to Nelson Cruz. He then walked Chris Davis before allowing a game-tying RBI single to J.J. Hardy. Flaherty provided the Orioles with their first lead, 5-4, hammering an offering from Neal Cotts (2-5) onto the flag court behind right field to lead off the seventh. Jones added an insurance run that inning with a two-out single. "Its sum of the parts for sure," Flaherty said. "It cant be the same guys every night. And its an opportunity for other guys to get in there and try to contribute and help the team win." After winning his previous two starts, Baltimore right hander Chris Tillman struggled most of the game. He allowed four runs -- three earned -- and seven hits with two strikeouts and four walks over 5 2-3 innings. Texas took a 1-0 lead in the first on a two-out RBI single by Alex Rios. In 18 starts, Tillman has given up 16 runs in the first inning. "It was a grind," Tillman said. "It wasnt good. I made some pitches when I had to. I had some stuff. I was consistently behind in the count. You have to make pitches on a consistent basis." Cruz, who leads the majors with 26 homers, appeared to tie the game with a towering shot in the bottom half of that inning before Leonys Martin made a leaping catch over the fence in centre field. "That was awesome," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "He beat the ball to the fence, timed it perfectly and brought it back. Nelson can just swipe the ball in this ballpark and it will go a long ways." The Rangers added three runs in the next inning on a two-run double by Adrian Beltre and a run-scoring grounder by Rios that bounced of Tillmans lower leg. Jones homer in the fourth pulled the Orioles within 4-1. NOTES: Baltimore RHP Bud Norris (right groin strain) threw a bullpen session Wednesday and will throw again Friday. Norris, who is eligible to come off the DL July 7, likely will need a rehab start or simulated game before rejoining the rotation, Showalter said. ... Orioles RHP Suk-min Yoon, who is on the minor league DL, received a cortisone injection in his right shoulder to reduce inflammation and will be reevaluated after being shut down for a few days. ... Davis hit off the tee before the game with Showalter observing. He went 1 for 3, snapping an 0-for-21 skid with a single in the eighth. ... The Orioles will try to sweep the four-game series when LHP Wei Yin Chen (7-3, 4.19 ERA) faces Rangers RHP Yu Darvish (8-4, 2.42) on Thursday. Denard Robinson Jaguars Jersey . The addition of new safety rails on Tuesday comes a day after labour officials said the installation of 20,000 temporary seats at the Itaquerao stadium could not continue until safety concerns were addressed. On Saturday, a 23-year-old worker died after falling from about 26 feet while installing the seats needed for the opener. Fast Engenharia, the company in charge of the temporary structures, was yet to release information about a new construction timetable for the stadium, which was already delayed. The company said in a statement that it was preparing a report to show labour officials that all the necessary measures had been implemented. It said the report would be delivered by the end of the day on Tuesday. The company, which reiterated that all of its safety measures were in accordance with Brazilian regulations, said that after the analysis of the report it expected construction to "resume immediately so it could deliver the work by the established deadline." Before the accident, FIFA expected the venue to be ready about a month ahead of the June 12 opening match between Brazil and Croatia. Sao Paulos vice mayor didnt expect the work stoppage to cause significant delays to the stadiums construction, saying the installation of the temporary seats was a "relatively simple job." "Its not a complex situation," Nadia Campeao told Radio Estadao. "Even if work is stopped for a few days so the recommended adjustments can be made, it shouldnt alter the final timetable." FIFA and the local World Cup organizing committee released a statement downplaying the delay caused by the work interruption, which they called "t;standard procedure when accidents of this nature occur.dddddddddddd" "FIFA and the LOC support any efforts to improve workers safety by the authorities," the statement said. "Given the advanced state of the assembling of the temporary stands, we believe that the schedule for delivery of these areas will not be impacted." A labour ministry official in Sao Paulo said the construction stoppage was needed to eliminate the risk of another death. "If there are no additional safety measures, the work cant continue," Luiz Antonio de Medeiros told the Agencia Estado news service. "There was not enough protection, it was irresponsible." Fast Engenharia has denied any wrongdoing and said the worker had all required safety equipment available to him at the time of the accident. Investigators said an initial probe showed the worker didnt connect himself to a safety cable. According to witness accounts, he said he only had a "quick thing" to finish at the site. Medeiros said additional safety measures could have prevented the death even if the worker wasnt connected to his safety cable. The safety rails were being added around areas where workers installed the temporary seats. FIFA and the local World Cup organizing committee did not immediately answer requests for comments on the work stoppage. Construction was already behind schedule at the Itaquerao stadium because of the damage caused by another accident that killed two workers following a crane collapse in late November. A giant roofing structure fell on part of the stadiums facade, significantly pushing back the stadiums date of completion. The stadium, being built by popular Brazilian club Corinthians, is expected to cost about $490 million. In addition to the opener, it will host three group matches, one second-round game and one of the semifinals. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

Ricky Foley is voting in favour of the tentative agreement between the CFL and the CFL Players Association but that doesnt mean hes happy with it. "I am voting YES to accept the deal & NOT strike...cause weve been backed in2 a corner & I have no confidence in our execs or legal counsel," Foley tweeted. Chase Daniel Youth Jersey . - Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr often reminds his players the morning of a big game that they better be ready for a tough test that night. CHICAGO -- This time, Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks did just fine in the shootout. Kane scored the winning goal in the tiebreaker and had two assists in regulation, lifting the Blackhawks to a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. Chicago dropped its first two shootout games this season, both at home, and failed to convert a single chance. Coach Joel Quenneville made a few changes before this one, altering how the Blackhawks prepare for the tiebreaker and deciding to go second in each round. The subtle tweaks paid off. "We changed our format," Quenneville said. "We practiced it in the middle of a practice. And we obviously went second, which was an easy decision. It was definitely a point of emphasis yesterday and going into todays game. We had to do something different if it does occur." Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp scored in regulation for the Blackhawks, who have won three of four and recorded at least one point in seven of their eight games. Hossa has a goal in each of his last five games. Teemu Selanne had a goal and an assist for the Ducks in Randy Carlyles 500th game as Anaheims head coach. Ryan Getzlaf also scored in the opener of a seven-game road trip, but the Ducks still dropped their third consecutive game. "I think we played way better, obviously," said Selanne, who tied Dave Andreychuk for 13th with 640 career goals. "I still think we had too many turnovers in the middle zone. I think we can play better, but we gave ourselves a chance to win tonight and thats a good sign." Jonathan Toews put the Blackhawks in front in the first round of the shootout, but Selanne tied it at 1-1 in the second round. Corey Crawford then denied Getzlaf to set up Kanes winning backhander. "Jons goal was beautiful, the way he put it upstairs," Kane said. "I tried to do something different. Hes an opposite-hand goalie, so his stick wouldnt be there when I came across. It worked out, I guess." The Ducks led 2-1 before Sharps blistering slap shot from the high slot tied it at 5:57 in the third. Sharp sent a pass from Kane into the left side of the net from about 35 feet away. Hossa shot off the right post as the horn sounded in overtime, sending the chipppy game to the tiebreaker.dddddddddddd Anaheim went in front just 58 seconds into the second period, beating Chicagos stingy penalty-killing unit. Perry skated up the left side of the ice and sent a perfect pass across the middle to Getzlaf, who beat Crawford with a shot into the upper right corner. Perrys pass slid just past defenceman Sean ODonnell and right to Getzlafs stick, setting up his third goal. It was the first power-play goal against the Blackhawks since the third period of their 5-2 victory over Dallas in their second game of the season on October 8. But that was Anaheims only score in six power-play chances on the night. "The first thing is were not executing," Carlyle said. "We have some design things we like to do against some penalty-killing units as every team does and we didnt execute with the power play. We were slapping the puck around and had chances to get ourselves the extra point and we didnt deliver in a critical situation on the road." The Blackhawks responded with their own highlight-reel score at 10:16 in the second. Kane made a strong spin move to wrap around defenceman Toni Lydman, then sent the puck across the ice to Hossa, who just had to guide it into the open left side of the net. It was Hossas fifth goal of the season and his team-high 15th in 24 career games against the Ducks. "He saw me all the way, and Danny Carcillo did an excellent job taking two guys with him," Hossa said. "It opened up for the easiest goal I could get. It was a beautiful pass by Patrick. Thats his kind of game when he can do stuff like that." The glow from Kanes assist of the season didnt last very long. Kane had the puck near the Blackhawks net with about four minutes left in the second when he tried to pass to Duncan Keith and Selanne picked it off. The 41-year-old Selanne, still a dangerous scorer, then skated in on Crawford and converted a stick-side backhander to give Anaheim a 2-1 lead. Hiller finished with 33 saves, and Crawford had 29. ORLANDO, Fla. -- Magic general manager Rob Hennigan says that trade talks for Dwight Howard with the Brooklyn Nets are "stationary," but that discussions remain open with them and other teams. Without giving specifics, Hennigan said Wednesday that the current parameters of the Nets offer -- believed to be multi-team sign-and-trade in which Orlando receives Brooklyn centre Brook Lopez and draft picks -- wasnt favourable to the Magic. He says he also continues to speak with both Howard and his representatives and that Orlando officials will continue to keep dialogues open to work out a deal that is in the best interest of the Magic. Howard recently reissued a trade request and identified Brooklyn as his desired destination. Howard is currently under contract with the Magic through next season. Nike Flyknit Lunar 2 herren . PORTLAND, Ore. -- There is something about returning to Portland that brings the best out of Memphis forward Zach Randolph. Randolph did another number on his former team Tuesday night, finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Grizzlies to a 98-81 victory over the Trail Blazers. Mike Conley had 19 points and seven assists, and Marc Gasol added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Grizzlies (23-20), who won their third straight and seventh in eight games. LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 27 points and 16 rebounds as the Blazers (33-13) suffered their most lopsided defeat of the season. Portland registered a season low for points scored and had their home winning streak snapped at five games. Randolph registered his 27th double-double of the season as a franchise record-setting 190th for the Grizzlies, who never trailed. Portland fell to 18-5 at home. Randolph, who played his first six seasons with the Blazers, averaged 22.7 points on 52.9 per cent shooting in seven previous visits. "Its always fun to come back," said Randolph, who scored 13 of his 23 points in the first half as the Grizzlies opened a 61-46 lead. "This is where I started, man. Thats just the kind of player that I am." The Grizzlies, picking up where they had left off in Saturdays 99-81 home win over Houston, shot 58.3 per cent in the first quarter against the Blazers and jumped in front 31-22 behind Randolphs 11 points. "It was important for us to get off to a fast start and we did," Randolph said. "We had great offence during the game, but our defence was the key." The Grizzlies held Portland, averaging a NBA-leading 109 points a game, to 34.5 per cent shooting two nights after the Blazers shot a season-low 33.7 per cent in a 103-88 loss at Golden State. "Memphis saw blood and they lunged at our jugular," Blazers centre Robin Lopez said. "I really think we kind of slashed our own throat in a way, which kind of let them run away with it." Aldridge was 6 of 7 in the first quarter and Nicholas Batum converted a three-point play that pulled Portland within 24-22, but Memphis outscored the Blazers 7-0 over the final 2:20 of the period to open a nine-point cushion. "We were in attack mode on booth ends of the floor," Grizzlies coach David Joerger said.dddddddddddd "Most of the night, we were the aggressors." Memphis connected four times from 3-point range in the second quarter, including one by Courtney Lee that extended the lead to 57-39 with 3:39 to play in the half. Damian Lillard connected from 3 for Portland to start the fourth quarter, sparking a 23-13 run that cut the deficit to 94-81 with 2:27 to play. "It was a disappointing game, needless to say," said Blazers coach Terry Stotts, whose team was playing its ninth game in 14 nights. "We got off to a slow start. We caught a team thats trying to put it together. Theyre on a roll and theyre playing very well. They showed that in the first half." Lillard finished with 16 points, Lopez had 14, and Batum 10 for the Blazers. "Were in a rough patch right now," Lillard said. "Were not shooting the ball very well and weve got to defend better. Weve played so well, we were due for a rough patch and a little bit of adversity." The Grizzlies remain in fourth place in the Southwest Division but are gaining ground. "Were getting our chemistry right," Randolph said. "I dont want to say were right there or that were hitting our peak, but its coming. As long as we keep working hard and playing 48 minutes, we give ourselves a chance to compete with anybody." NOTES: Aldridge recorded his 22nd game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds, second most in the league behind Minnesotas Kevin Love (26). . With his 15th point Tuesday, Aldridge passed Cliff Robinson for third among Portlands all-time leading scorers with 10,406 points. Aldridges 27 point brought his career total to 10,418. . Memphis guard Tony Allen, whose last appearance was on Jan. 3 at Denver, was not in uniform and missed his 11th consecutive game with a sprained left wrist. Allen was averaging 10.2 points and 3.9 rebounds at the time of his injury. . Randolph went into Tuesdays game with 384 career double-doubles, ranking eighth among active players. . VALLADOLID, Spain -- Javi Guerra scored three second-half goals in heavy fog at Jose Zorilla Stadium on Monday to help Valladolid earn a much-needed 3-0 win over 10-man Celta Vigo. Valladolids second home victory of the season and first since August lifted it out of the Spanish leagues relegation zone and put it level on points with Celta. Valladolid goalkeeper Diego Marino made a superb diving save to tap Charless header over the bar in the 33rd minute. And Marino then got the Celta striker sent off in the 56th when he craftily kicked the ball into Charles to draw a second yellow card for obstruction. Four minutes later Guerra volleyed in a pass from Patrick Ebert. He gently lofted a header over the reach of goalie Yoel Rodriguez in the 67th before sidefooting home his third in the 86th. The Valladolid striker has 10 goals in 16 rounds, tying him with Real Sociedad forward Antoine Griezmann as the third-leading scorer in the league behind Diego Costa and Cristiano Ronaldo with 17 goals each. "Im having some luck with my goals and enjoying a good run," said Guerra. "We were playing for a lot tonight. We needed these three points to get some confidence back. We are a humble team and now we can breathe easier." Valladolids win meant Almeria slid down into the drop zone along with Rayo Vallecano and bottom side Real Betis. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid lead the league with Real Madrid trailing five points behind. Groenewoud earned a total score of 85.66 to win silver in womens ski superpipe at the Winter X Games, her first competition since she had surgery on both of her knees in December. "Im really happy with the progress Ive made," said Groenewoud. "This is I think my fifth day skiing pipe since double-knee surgery so Im super-happy with how its progressed." American Maddie Bowman was first with 88.66 points in the eight-woman event, while Frances Marie Martinod was third with 82.33. Groenewoud, from Squamish, B.C., will represent Canada in halfpipe skiing at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and is getting her knees ready for the rigours of competition. "They definitely started to feel a little bit sore toward my last competition run," said Groenewoud. "Im glad that Im done for the day and I can go put them on ice. "Every day theyre feeling better. Theyre adapting to skiing halfpipe." The Winter X Games are Groenewouds last competitioon before the Olympics.dddddddddddd. "Im looking forward to getting to work on some of my harder tricks in our upcoming pre-Olympic camp," said Groenewoud. "Hopefully Ill be doing some of those in Sochi." Rehabilitating her knees will be an ongoing concern for Groenewoud, as her legs have to recover while she gets herself into peak shape for the halfpipe competition. "I had this very naive notion that the rehab process was over as soon as I got back on the snow," she said. "I quickly learned that I will be taking care of my body intensely probably all the way through Sochi." Later in the day in mens competition, Mike Riddle of Sherwood Park, Alta. finished fourth in the ski superpipe with a best run of 84.33. Calgary Flames president of hockey operations Brian Burke came to the defence of embattled Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel over his refusal to speak to the media after Saturday nights 6-2 blowout loss to the Buffalo Sabres. Why should Phil Kessel have to talk to these pukes every day? Burke said, speaking to reporters on Tuesday morning at the Prime Time Sports Management Conference in Toronto. Burke served as Maple Leafs president and general manager from 2008 to 2013 and acquired Kessel from the Boston Bruins in 2009. Following the Leafs loss in Buffalo, TSN Radio 1050s Jonas Siegel approached Kessel for comment, but the 27-year-old brusquely refused. The 59-year-old Burke had his own notoriously testy relationship with Toronto media and feels that Kessel is currently the target of undue scorn. Burke cited Anaheim Ducks defenceman Francois Beauchemin, a Leaf from 2009 to 2011, as a player who couldnt cope with the media crush in the city. Its a miracle some nights that these guys dont drill these guys, Burke said of the Leafs and the media. Theres a hailstorm after every loss and they dont care whether they get it right or not. For his part, Kessel addressed the controversy on Monday. I think Ive talked a decent amount, Kessel told reporters. Ill come out sometimes to talk, but sometimes I dont. But I dont have too much to say about losses like that. Kessel and his Maple Leafs return to action on Tuesday night when they play host to the Nashville Predators. T.J. Yeldon Womens Jersey . Hahn held St. Louis to one run and four hits in seven innings and Jedd Gyorko and Will Venable each homered and drove in four runs to lead the San Diego Padres to a 12-1 victory Wednesday night. Yangervis Solarte, obtained from the New York Yankees in the trade for Chase Headley, had four hits and the Padres tied their season high with 16. The Padres fell one run shy of their season high. "To get a win on your birthday is awesome," Hahn said. His seven wins in nine appearances are the most in Padres history and tied for the third-most by a big league pitcher since 1914. "We havent had it enough," manager Bud Black said of the scoring outburst. "But its great to see. It starts with starting pitching, and Jesse pitched a great game. Hes not a secret, even though hes facing teams for the first time. Theres video, theres scouting reports. Hes being talked about because hes made a number of starts and his innings are getting up there a little bit." Hahns latest impressive start put the Padres, buried in third place in the NL West, in position to sweep the series with a win Thursday. The Cardinals are in the race for the NL Central crown a season after going to the World Series. "It was probably our ugliest loss of the year. Thats the best way to describe it," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. Hahn (7-2) struck out three and walked two in winning his third straight start. The lanky righty retired the first seven batters before Tony Cruz beat out an infield single. Hahn was acquired in a seven-player trade with Tampa Bay on Jan. 22. Hahn took a shutout into the seventh before allowing a one-out RBI single by Peter Bourjos singled in Matt Adams. "I was a little mad but at that point I was going for the double play to get out of the inning," Hahn said. "It was a good pitch; unfortunately the runner scored. Venable hit a 379-foot, three-run homer to right to cap the eight-run seventh. It was his fourth. The Padres had five hits, three walks and a hit batter off three relievers in the inning. Gyorko hit a three-run double, his third hit. Gyorko, who returned Monday from a 44-game stay on the disabled list with plantar fasciitis, homered to left on a 1-0 pitch from Joe Kelly with one out in the fourth to give San Diego a 3-0 lead.dddddddddddd It was his sixth. Yonder Alonso followed with a triple and came in on Venables single. "It obviously feels good to swing the bat the way I wanted to," said Gyorko, who has struggled since the Padres gave him a $35 million, six-year contract extension on April 14, based on his strong rookie season. "It feels a lot like how I was swinging it there at the end of the year last year. Its something to build on but I still have a long way to go." Alexi Amarista had three hits and scored three runs, and Solarte also had three hits. Kelly (2-2) went five innings, allowing four runs and seven hits while striking out five and walking one. "Kelly was OK," Matheny said. "It looked like good pitches were getting hit hard. It should have worked out a little better for him." Overall, "Thats not the kind of baseball weve played all year," Matheny said. No excuses. We were terrible." TRAINERS ROOM Cardinals: Manager Mike Matheny said the sound of pinch-hitter Daniel Descalso getting hit on the knee by a pitch from Joaquin Benoit in the ninth inning Tuesday night was "as loud as a hit batsman as Ive heard. It sounded terrible. But I was happy to see him get up, walk around." Descalso was replaced by a pinch-runner. Padres: RHP Andrew Cashner threw another bullpen Wednesday and is scheduled to throw a simulated game during the weekend. He could begin a rehab assignment next week. Hes on the disabled list with soreness in his right shoulder. Tallahassee, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The top-ranked Florida State Seminoles take aim at their second straight undefeated regular season, as the close out the 2014 schedule against rival Florida on Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium. Jimbo Fishers Seminoles have certainly not won games pretty this season, but they have continued to stay unblemished, running the nations longest current win streak to 27 games with last weeks 20-17 win over Boston College. The Seminoles have won the ACC Atlantic Division and will play Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship Game. FSU does not hold the top spot in the College Football Playoff rankings, but is in the top four, where it should stay barring a loss. It has been a different story at Florida, as the Gators were never really relevant in the SEC this season. The team is 6-4 on the year and 4-4 in conference play, but it is considered a sub-par year by Florida standards. The team enters off a 52-3 rout of FCS foe Eastern Kentucky. This will be Will Muschamps final game with the team, as he has stepped down as head coach at the conclusion of the regular season. Muschamps team didnt need any extra incentive for this one. They dont need fireworks to get ready for this one, he said. Theyll be ready to go. Our guys are excited about this game. This is the 59th all-time meeting between these two rivals, with UF holding a 35-22-2 advantage. The Gators are the last team to defeat the Seminoles, a 37-26 decision in Tallahassee in 2012. Last season, Florida State beat Florida, 37-7. Both quarterbacks Treon Harris and Jeff Driskel were productive in last weeks lopsided win over Eastern Kentucky, but unfortunately that has not been the norm in Gainesville this season. Florida is averaging a respectable 31.6 ppg this year, but it has been fueled by a solid rushing attack (197.1 ypg) and hampered by a stagnant passing game. Junior Matt Jones (788 yards, 5.0 ypc, 6 TDs) and sophomore Kelvin Taylor (528 yards, 5.3 ypc, 6 TDs) are a potent one-two punch in the backfield. However, both QBs have struggled, completing 54.4 percent of their passes. Driskel has nine touchdowns against 10 interceptions, while the freshman Harris has taken over as the starter and has a much better six TDs against one pick. Regardless of the guy throwing the football, the usual target is sophomore wideout Demarcus Robinson, who paces the team by large margins in receptions (43), receiving yards (703) and TD catches (7). The defensive numbers seem solid for Florida, which has done a nice job against the run (110.4 ypg) and the pass (201.1 ypg) this year. The team ranks 11th nationally in total defense (311.5 ypg). Linebacker Antonio Morrison leads the Florida defense with 93 total tackles. He also has one sack, one INT, 1 FF and 1 FR to his credit. Defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. (53 tackles, 11.0 TFL, 4.5 sacks, 2 FF) has made his share of plays as well. Defensive end Alex McCalister (20 stops) hasnt been in on a ton of tackles this year, but he has made the most of them, with 8.0 TFL and a team-high 6.0 sacks. Florida State is averaging 35.5 ppg this season, so scoring points hasnt been a problem. What has is the teams penchant for falling behind. A lack of a dominant run game has certainly been a concern, with FSU averaging a modest 126.6 ypg on the ground. The passing attack is much more potent at 314.9 ypg. That has a lot to do with reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston under center. While not on his pace from last year, Winstons numbers havent been awful. The sophomore has completed 66 percent of his passes, for 3,125 yards. However, his TD (19) to interception (13) ratio leaves a lot to be desired. Still, Winston does have a supremely gifted talent on the outside to throw to in All-America candidate Rashad Greene. The schools all-time receptions leader, Greene has hauled in 83 balls this season, for 1,148 yards and five TDs. Dalvin Cook (584 yards, 5.8 ypc, 7 TDs) and Karlos Williams (571 yards, 4.3 ypc, 10 TDs) arent workhorse backs, but both are more than serviceable. There have certainly been some chinks in the armor of the FSU defense this year. The team is allowing 22.3 points per game, and foes have had some success both on the ground and through the air against the Seminoles. Still, there are playmakers at every level. The linebacking corps is anchored by Reggie Northrup (90 tackles) and Terrance Smith (80 tackles). The secondary features defensive backs Jalen Ramsey (68 tackles, 9.5 TFL, 3.0 sacks, 2 INTs) and P.J. Williams (47 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT). Eddie Goldman (31 tackles, 8.0 TFL, 4.0 sacks) and Mario Edwards Jr. (38 tackles, 11.0 TFL, 3.0 sacks) are the ones to watch up front. Fisher commented on all the close calls his team has had this season. Were going into battle, he said. These games are going to be dogfights. People are going to try and be the one that knocks us out, knocks us off. Theyve got nothing to lose. Ronnie Lott Womens Jersey . NEW YORK -- Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was fined $7,875 for unsportsmanlike conduct/taunting in the final minute of the NFC championship game against San Francisco. Shermans fine was confirmed by the league Friday. Sherman was flagged after he made a choking gesture toward the San Francisco bench that he said was directed at quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Sherman had just deflected a pass intended for Michael Crabtree in the end zone that was intercepted by linebacker Malcolm Smith and clinched Seattles 23-17 victory. Sherman ran over and after tapping Crabtree on the backside and extended his hand for a handshake. Crabtree then shoved Sherman in the face. The All-Pro cornerback then made the choking gesture. Sherman was the only player fined in the game. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson Nets Jersey . Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hey Kerry,Absolutely love your column and love your answers. My question is in the Tuesday night game of Red Wings v. Blue Jackets, Cam Atkinson clearly scored Columbus third goal after the net was dislodged. Im confused how the referees were able to decide that the goal was scored before the net came off when it seemed to clearly come off before the goal crossed the line. Im just wondering how the refs came to their conclusion and if it was correct. Thanks Kerry,Jacob Messing Hi Ref,How can a player score when the net is clearly off the mooring> When the net is off the moorings you cant allow a goal. Maybe get a penalty for moving the net, but no goal. Obviously that was the wrong call, and could mean a missed playoff. Are Referees demoted from the playoffs for these terrible calls? Thanks for your answer.Jim Carmody Jacob and Jim:Thank you for your questions on this unique situation that caused many fans to scratch their heads in amazement as to how a goal can be scored with the net clearly off the moorings. I have two personal experiences to share with you that resulted in the formulation and eventual amendment of rule 63.6 which I hope will clear up any confusion. It was under this specific rule that Referee Chris Rooney correctly awarded a goal to Cam Atkinson of the Columbus Blue Jackets after Atkinsons body contacted the post and knocked off its moorings. I provide you with the history of the rule and the correct application. Rule 63.6—In the event that the goal post is displaced, either deliberately or accidentally, by a defending player, prior to the puck crossing the goal line between the normal position of the goalposts, the Referee may award a goal. In order to award a goal in this situation, the goal post must have been displaced by the actions of a defending player, the puck must have been shot (or the player must be in the act of shooting) at the goal prior to the goal post being displaced, and it must be determined that the puck would have entered the net between the normal position of the goal posts. Now for your first history lesson as to how this rule came about. In the mid 1980s I was assigned to work a game in the St. Louis Arena between the Blues and the Edmonton Oilers. On a particular shift the Oiler stars were sustaining incredible pressure in the Blues end zone. It looked like a shooting gallery against Blues goalkeeper Mike Liut as he slid from side to side making one incredible save after another. That is until one stacked-pad-slide by Liut took the tender well outside of his goal crease. The rebound came right onto the stick of Glenn Anderson standing all alone in the middle slot. As Anderson was about to trigger a shot into the unguarded cage for a sure goal, Blues defenceman Tim Bothwell lifted the net completely off its moorings and began to skate it toward the corner of the rink! Anderson looked puzzled and continued to reposition his feet toward the moving target.ddddddddddddI blew the whistle and assessed a delay of game penalty to Bothwell. The Blues killed the penalty and a "sure goal" by Anderson had been averted. I made a rule proposal that was adopted to allow the ref to award a goal if the net was deliberately displaced by a defending player and the attacker shot the puck (or in the act of shooting) and the puck passed through the normal position of the net. The initial rule only applied when the net was "deliberately" displaced. Fast-forward to the modern day NHL and a game I worked in Vancouver between the Canucks and the Sabres. Buffalo created a two-on-one attack with the second Canuck defenceman giving chase. As the attackers approached the net the trailing D made a desperation diving poke-check attempt. The defending players out of control slide knocked the net off its moorings just prior to the shot entering the net. The sure goal had to be disallowed and no penalty could be assessed since the action of the defending player that knocked the net off the mooring was accidental. Due to the fact that a sure goal had been denied through the "actions" of a defending player in both situations (deliberate in St. Louis (80s) and accidental in Vancouver (2000s) the language of the rule was amended to include "accidentally" whenever the specific criteria of rule 63.6 was satisfied. In Tuesdays game Matt Calvert and Cam Atkinson took flight on a two-on-one break with Niklas Kronwall defending and his defence partner, Brendan Smith giving chase from behind. Jimmy Howard made a left pad save on Calverts shot but could not control or freeze the rebound. Atkinson attacked the net from the opposite side and initiated a hard stop at the top-inside of the crease with an opportunity to put the loose puck into the net for a sure goal. As Atkinson was positioning his stick to play the puck (act of shooting) Smith made physical contact with his stick and hip on Atkinson that moved the Blue Jackets player into the goal post and knocked the net off of the moorings. Some will say that the contact exerted by Smith was minimal and insufficient to knock the net off the moorings without some responsibility placed on Atkinson. The replay shows that Atkinsons momentum and forward progress was altered significantly and he accelerated from his initial stop inside the top of the crease after the contact by Smith was initiated and completed. It is also evident that Atkinson attempted to push back and stop following the contact by Smith with a second, separate spray of snow from his skate blade. Referee Chris Rooney made an excellent, quick decision when he correctly applied rule 63.6 to award the goal to Atkinson following the actions of Smith that "accidentally" caused the goal post to be displaced prior to the puck crossing the goal line. (Sports Network) - The Ottawa Senators are in the drivers seat to return to the postseason after a one-year absence. They hope the return of two key players will help them reach that goal. The Sens will have goaltender Craig Anderson back in the lineup and in goal this evening and will also welcome forward Jason Spezza back as welll, as they wrap their season series with the division-rival Montreal Canadiens. Viewers in the Canadiens region can watch the game on TSN Canadiens at 7:30pm et/8:30pm at. The game is also available on TSN Radio 990 in Montreal and TSN.ca/Montreal. Ottawa did not qualify for the playoffs last year after a 20-point drop off from the previous season saw it finish fifth in the division with 74 points. The Senators have already eclipsed that total with 84 on the season, three up on the eighth-seeded Capitals and only three back of the Bruins for the lead in the Northeast standings. Ottawa and Washington both have eight games remaining, while idle Boston has a game in hand. The Senators did fail to make up ground on the sixth-place Devils on Tuesday, losing a 1-0 home decision to New Jersey. Ben Bishop made 33 saves in his seventh straight start as Ottawa lost its second straight in regulation and fourth in the past five overall (1-2-2). Bishop gave up the games only goal with 2:40 left in the second period on an Ilya Kovalchuk one-timer. Johan Hedberg then shut the door on the Sens by posting a 34-save shutout. "It was a knuckle-puck," said Bishop. "Just a bad bounce. Their goalie played well." Ottawa played without Spezza, who was unable to suit up for his 600th career game due to illness. Hes expected to return this evening, as is Anderson from a four-week layoff due to a severed tendon in his right pinky. Anderson hasnt played since Feb. 22, when he won his fourth straight decision with a 33-save effort versus the Capitals. However, he suffered his injury while preparing a meal later in the evening. Bishop, Alex Auld and Robin Lehner have teamed to replace Anderson during his absence and Bishop will remain as the backup this evening. "The guys have been playing really well, so I just want to get in there and continue to give the team a chance to win, just like the other goaltenders have done so far," said Anderson. "I just want to make sure that when I get in there, Im making the saves Im supposed to be making and doing everything as best as I can to help the team win." Andersons first test will come against the Canadiens, who sit last in the Eastern Conference with 69 points and suffered their third straight loss on Wednesday with a 3-0 defeat in Buffalo. Carey Price gave up all three tallies on 31 shots for Montreal, which is 4-8-3 in its past 15, a span that began with five straight regulation losses from Feb. 19-28. Price will start in goal this evening with Peter Budaj expected to play Saturday against in Philadelphia. "We had a good start, despite the goal against," Canadiens head coach Randy Cunneyworth said. "We generated some offensive opportunities in the first (period) and took our foot off the pedal in the second. I thought we let them right back into the game and we had the momentum despite being down a goal. We just need to have a better start." Montreal has been without forward Scott Gomez for four straight games due to a concussion, while defenseman Tomas Kaberle has sat out three in a row because of an upper-body injury. These two clubs split a home-and-home series last week, with each team winning once as the host past regulation. Montreal is 3-0-2 in the five encounters this season. Spezza (2 goals, 2 assists), Filip Kuba (1g, 3a) and Erik Karlsson (1g, 3a) are all pacing the Senators with four points versus the Canadiens this season, while Montreal has gotten a three goals and a helper each from Tomas Plekanec and Erik Cole in the season series. The Bucks, who have won three of their last four, finished off a Florida sweep with wins over the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic. On Thursday, Milwaukee earned its first victory in Orlando in 10 years with a 115-100 win. Brandon Knight tallied 16 points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals to pace the Bucks to their first win in Orlando since Dec. 29, 2004, a stretch that included 17 straight losses. It was a great game, said Bucks coach Jason Kidd. From start to finish, our guys executed the game plan. They shared the ball. Jerryd Bayless led seven Bucks in double figures with 19 points. Khris Middleton and Jared Dudley added 17 apiece and John Henson posted 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win. O.J. Mayo scored 13 off the bench and Giannis Antetokounmpo managed 10 points. The Blazers are struggling. Theyve dropped two straight and seven of their last nine, plus, the Blazers have lost five in a row as the visitor, including both stops on this current road trip. After the first visit on the trek was canceled in Brooklyn due to impending snow, Portland lost to a LeBron James-less Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, then to the steaming-hot Atllanta Hawks on Friday.dddddddddddd In between setbacks, Blazers guard Damian Lillard was passed over for a spot on the Western Conference All-Star team and was not happy about, stating in an Instagram post he felt disrespected. The Blazers were valiant against the Hawks, but eventually fell, 105-99. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 37 points for Portland a day after he was named to the Western Conference All-Star team. An incredible individual performance, said Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer. We tried to make it difficult on him but he still scored 37. Wesley Matthews added 16 points and Lillard scored 13 with 11 assists for the Blazers. Neither team led by more than six in the game. The Hawks took the lead for good on Al Horfords jumper midway through the fourth quarter. Later, Horfords rebound and Jeff Teagues long pass over the defense led to a dunk for Paul Millsap at the other end to make it a six-point game with 1:30 remaining. The Blazers were never closer than four after that. It was a very competitive game, said Portland coach Terry Stotts. Both teams made runs but they made more plays at the end of the game than we did. The Blazers defeated the Bucks by seven in Portland on Dec. 17 and have won three straight in this series. The teams have split the last 12 meetings in Milwaukee. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

TORONTO – Jose Bautista hit a home run (his 15th), threw a runner out trying to score, lined into a triple play and was denied a catch down the right field line thanks to fan interference (although the hitter, Tony Cruz, was ruled out when the Blue Jays challenged the ruling). All in a nights work for the slugger as the Jays won a sixth-straight game, 3-1 over the St. Louis Cardinals. “I think its got to be the most eventful game Ive ever had in my career,” said Bautista. “Id like to see if anybody could find somebody else to have a game with that combination of plays. Thatd be pretty awesome.” Whats becoming clearer as the days go by is that this is a good Blue Jays team. Mediocre or bad teams dont win nine in a row, drop a couple and then respond with another win streak thats now reached six. Torontos been victorious in 20 of its last 24 games, is at or near the top of the sports key offensive statistical categories and continues to get solid starting pitching and defence. “Were playing great baseball and were enjoying a great couple of months and we need to keep doing that so we can get to the playoffs,” said Bautista. “We just need to stay with the consistency. Same approach, same effort that were putting forward every single night and its a lot of fun when youre winning. Its the first time Ive ever experienced anything like this at this level so Im enjoying it a lot as well.” Marcus Stroman won his second-straight start and improved his big league record to 3-0, hurling six-plus innings of one-run ball. After a shaky start - he allowed the run in the first, and backed by strong defensive plays by Bautista and Brett Lawrie - Stroman settled in and ended up striking out seven Cardinals. His curveball, which confounded the Royals last Saturday, made for more misery for another Missouri-based team. “Its been huge just because I dont feel like I necessarily have to throw a fastball in a fastball count,” said Stroman. “Just being able to mix it up and keep guys off balance has been pretty good this year.” When Stroman was lifted by manager John Gibbons in the seventh, the fans gave him a standing ovation. “Yeah, its pretty special,” said Stroman. “I tried to do my best tough guy impersonation and tried not to smile but it was definitely pretty special walking off. Just to go out there and put my team in a position to win was awesome.” 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROGERS CENTRE Jimmy Key threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Ernie Whitt on Friday night. The two formed the battery for the first ever pitch thrown at SkyDome, a strike to Milwaukees Paul Molitor on June 5, 1989. It was a trip down memory lane in a stadium that so often is unfairly maligned. A technological wonder when it was built, some still see it that way. “Its a nice piece of architecture,” said Jose Bautista. “You come in here and you expect it to be kind of old and beat down and look out of place because its so old but it actually looks pretty modern from the outside looking in. I was surprised the first time I saw it. I was expecting something different. I was pleasantly surprised.” Fans old enough to remember that June night in 1989 and the four Blue Jays playoff appearances in the SkyDomes first five years may have a different opinion of the facility than the younger crowd thats yet to experience a winner. Still, fond memories abound, even those of the more recent variety. “Itd have to be probably the day that I hit the 50th home run,” said Bautista of September 24, 2010. “It was a pretty nice crowd in a day game and one of the unique features of the stadium was highlighted that day, you know, open roof on a beautiful day.” Only Cito Gaston has managed more games in Rogers Centre/SkyDome than John Gibbons. “Its an entertaining place,” said Gibbons. “Exciting, fans come here because some crazy things can happen. The ball flies. Youve got some bouncy turf. I really enjoy this place. One thing youre guaranteed, youre always going to have a game because they can close that roof.” NO QUIT When a team has won six in a row, 15 of 17 and 20 of 24 like the Blue Jays have after Fridays action, chances are resiliency is one of its characteristics. The clubs star player sees it. “Its something that I always thought, even from last year, that we never give up,” said Bautista. “We had a lot of tough games last year. We lost a lot of close games and we battled back from some blowouts and came close, not quite enough to come out with a win. I always noted that about this team where we never give up and we always fight.” Amid the wreckage of last years lost season, 32 of Torontos 74 victories were comeback wins. So far this season, the Blue Jays have 13 come-from-behind victories. RASMUS AND SANTOS UPDATES Centrefielder Colby Rasmus is nearing a return to game action as he recovers from a right hamstring injury. “Colbys doing baseball activities down (in Florida),” said Gibbons. “We figure at the beginning of the week hell probably get into a game.” Rasmus has been on the disabled list since May 13. What he originally believed wouldnt require a DL stint has turned into a near-month absence, a reminder of how uncertain muscle injuries can be. Sergio Santos threw a bullpen session before Thursdays game in Detroit. Gibbons wasnt clear on the plan moving forward. Earlier in the week the plan was for Santos to throw sides on Thursday (he did) and on Sunday and if he passed both tests, hed leave for Buffalo and a rehab assignment perhaps as early as Monday. Alex Carter Youth Jersey . -- Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run homer in the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.NEWARK, N.J. -- With Martin Brodeur nearing his 40th birthday and entering the final year of his contract, this season at first had the look of a last hurrah for the New Jersey Devils goalie great. Well, the hurrah part was right. Its been one hurrah after another, reaching a high point Friday night. Brodeur made 33 saves to help the Devils defeat the rival New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime in Game 6 to advance to the Stanley Cup finals against the Los Angeles Kings. Game 1 will be Wednesday in New Jersey. After the Devils missed the playoffs last season for the first time since 1996, no one might have been put under the microscope more than Brodeur. Longtime president and general manager Lou Lamoriello certainly had questions to answer after the early-season stumble under new coach John MacLean, but Brodeur was the focal point after a so-so season nagged by injuries. Now at 40, hes back after outdueling Henrik Lundqvist in the first Eastern Conference finals between the teams since their memorable showdown in 1994. New York won that one in seven games with Stephane Matteau scoring the series-clincher in double overtime. Rookie Adam Henrique did the honours for New Jersey on Friday night with a shot from just about the same spot where Matteau scored, from the right edge of the crease. "Its been a lot of fun this season, playing on a really good team, and Im enjoying this ride," Brodeur said. "And I know what I can do, try to compete as hard as I can every night and try to give these guys a chance to win hockey games. And theyve been scoring a lot of goals for me in the playoffs so far, and its been great." Brodeur was the difference in the Devils wins in Games 5 and 6, when the Rangers controlled most of the play in the final two periods. "He was outstanding, all playoffs," Devils forward David Clarkson said. "He kept us in games, stood on his head. Its amazing to see what hes doing right now and our bench just feeds off it." Brodeur was at his best Friday with the game tied 2-all in the third period. He stopped a power-play shot by Brad Richards while prone on the ice and made a save on a shot by Artem Anisimov from between the circles. He also used his stick to poke check the ppuck off Anisimovs stick on a semi breakaway and again used his stick to deflect a pass from the boards by Carl Hagelin in the final minute of regulation just before it got to Marian Gaborik on the edge of the crease.dddddddddddd "Actually, it was fun," Brodeur said. "But at the end of the day, we were in a position that the next goal is going to win. So in my head, the overtime started in the third period. And thats the way I approached the third period coming in. So every save was important. Every shot that we took on Lundqvist was important." Lamoriello enjoyed it, too. Any win over the Rangers is a good one for Lou. "It was two competitive teams that worked very hard at their game and paid a price for success," Lamoriello said in a phone interview with The Associated Press on Saturday. "This was a very competitive series. Put aside the rivalry, it was a competitive series." He scoffed when asked about Brodeur performing so well at 40. He pointed out that some 30-year-old people act like they are 50, and vice versa. He said the same holds true for athletes, adding athleticism and genetics also play a part. "(Brodeur) is just a real thoroughbred athlete," Lamoriello said. "He loves the game. His mind is 100 per cent there and he feels good. Its Mariano Rivera." Brodeur refused to compare this Devils team to the ones that won Cups in 1995, 2000 and 03, or to the one that lost the Cup in seven games to Colorado in 2001. "Every team writes its own story," the Montreal native said. "I was fortunate to be part of great teams that had success, and I was part of great teams that didnt have success. ... Its not just a one-man show out there. A lot of guys are contributing, and theres a good feeling. But until you finish out these playoffs, well see then." Up next will be the Kings. They have posted a 12-2 record in beating Vancouver, St. Louis and Phoenix, the top three seeds in the Western Conference. The Devils were given Saturday and Sunday off while the coaches worked on their game plan. "They have played well at home and away and we just have to take a step back," Lamoriello said. "We havent seen much of them except the games on TV." cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Drew Pomeranz may have found his niche as a starting pitcher. Pomeranz won his third consecutive start since moving from the bullpen into the rotation, Coco Crisp drove in two runs before departing with an injury, and the surging Oakland Athletics beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 on Tuesday night. Pomeranz (4-1) allowed three hits, two walks and had three strikeouts over five innings. He has not given up a run in his three starts, all of which lasted five innings. "My three starts have been a great team effort," Pomeranz said. "We scored a lot of runs and the bullpen shut them down." Sean Doolittle, the third Oakland reliever, pitched the ninth for his third save and complete a four-hitter. After the game, Oakland manager Bob Melvin said there is a good chance Doolittle will take over the closers role. "Its pretty cool," Doolittle said. Doolittle did see his streak of 30 straight appearances without allowing a walk end when Ryan Hanigan drew one with two outs in the ninth. Former Baltimore closer Jim Johnson, acquired by Oakland from the Orioles in December, has allowed seven runs in 4 1-3 innings over his past six appearances. Crisp hit a two-run double and John Jaso had an RBI single off Jake Odorizzi (2-4) as Oakland took a 3-0 lead in the second. The AL West-leading Athletics have won 10 of 11, outscoring their opponents 74-18 over the stretch. "You dont do that by swinging at bad pitches," Odorizzi said. Crisp was replaced defensively by Craig Gentry in the bottom of the sixth because of neck soreness. He had started four straight games after missing seven with a neck strain. Melvin expects Crisp to sit out Wednesday nights game. Odorizzi gave up three runs, four hits, five walks and struck out eight in 4 2-3 innings. The Rays (19-27) are eight games under .500 for the first time since the end of the 2007 season (66-96), which was their final season as the Devil Rays. "Never say it cant get any worse because whenever you utter those words, youre going to find it out," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "Im looking more for the turning point. You never know how close you are to turning negative momentum to positive." Pomeranz worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the third by getting a double play grounder from Desmond Jennings on a 3-2 pitch. Jennings also hit into an inning-ending double play with two on in the eighth. "Those double pays are huge," Pomeranz said. Maddon challenged the very close out call on Jennings at first base in the third, which the umpires ruled would stand after a review that took 1 minute, 23 seconds. After suffering a left calf strain against the Los Angeles Clippers in the previous round, Ibaka was ruled out for the remainder of the postseason. He missed the first two games of the conference finals in San Antonio, but word changed on Friday that the big man had improved tremendously and was considered day-to-day. Ibaka started Game 3 and dominated early, going 4-for-4 from the floor in first quarter. He finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in just under 30 grueling, limping minutes. "I was so emotional, but you couldnt really tell because I was on the court," Ibaka said. "I just want to thank my teammates, thank Russell, he tried to get me going early in the game. Kevin (Durant), (Kendrick) Perkins, Reggie (Jackson). I will never stop thanking them for tonight. I will never forget that. It was very special tonight." Without Ibaka, the Thunder allowed the Spurs to shoot at least 50 percent in the first two tilts and San Antonio won them by a combined 52 points. The Spurs shot just 39.6 percent (36-of-91) from the floor in Game 3. Westbrook finished 8-of-19 from the field after missing seven of his first eight shots, netting 26 points to go with eight rebounds and seven assists. Durant added 25 points and 10 boards for the Thunder, who held a commanding 52-36 advantage on the glass. Reggie Jackson, who was inserted into the starting lineup for Thabo Sefolosha, also had 15 in the win. Manu Ginobili nailed six 3-pointers and scored 23 points for San Antonio, which hass dropped eight straight to the Thunder in OKC, including the postseason.dddddddddddd. Tim Duncan added 16 and Kawhi Leonard chipped in 10 in the loss. "I was very disappointed that we didnt come out with more of a foot in the neck sort of an attitude," admitted Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. "They killed us on the board, they beat us on 50/50 balls, and thats very disappointing to me. Thats not the way you approach a game." Ibaka carried OKC in the first quarter, but San Antonio led by one after the first 12 minutes. Westbrook nailed a pair of pull-up triples in the final 30 seconds of the half, including one at the buzzer to give the Thunder a 57-53 cushion heading into the break. Two Perkins free throws at the 8:36 mark of the third capped a 10-2 burst and gave the Thunder a 67-57 cushion. His bonus shots provided OKC its first points not supplied by either Durant or Westbrook since a Jackson floater with 4:01 to play in the second. Ginobili nailed a left wing trey to pull San Antonio within 75-71 with 2:46 to go in the period, but the Thunder extended the margin to 83-76 at the conclusion of the third and then put the game away early in the fourth. Oklahoma Citys lead grew to as many as 20 and the Spurs couldnt get it into single digits. "I think the biggest thing that changed was the intensity on the defensive end," said Durant. "We still turned the ball over more than we should have, but I think we always had great intentions and we moved the ball from side to side tonight." In league history, 94 percent of teams to open a seven-game set 2-0 have gone on to advance. The Spurs sadly know all about the six percent. San Antonio held this exact margin in the 2012 Western Conference finals against Oklahoma City, only to lose the next four and watch the Thunder lose to the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Indians are going down a familiar path with a star pitcher. Cleveland has suspended talks on a contract extension with ace Justin Masterson, agreeing that its time to focus on the upcoming season. Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said Friday that the club made a "very competitive" offer to Masterson, but the sides couldnt find common ground. Negotiations broke down with agent Randy Rowley on Thursday. "I met with Justin this morning," Antonetti said. "At this point we both agreed to table discussions on a multiyear contract and potentially revisit it down the road. But right now the focus will be on preparing for the season." Masterson, who avoided arbitration and agreed to a one-year, $9.726 million salary for 2014, can become a free agent after the season. The right-hander is scheduled to pitch on opening day against Oakland on March 31. Antonetti said the sides may discuss a new deal at a later unspecified time. "We made an earnest effort to find common ground and get something done. In the end we werent able to align," Antonetti said. "We have a profound belief in Justin. He embodies everything we want our players to be. Hes a great teammate, a great person and an exceptional performer. "There remains a desire from our side that he remains here long term. I believe hed like to be here long term." Masterson reportedly gave the Indians proposals on two- and three-year contracts at roughly $17 million per season. The Indians are believed to have offered packages at $14 million per year. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Masterson is scheduled to pitch on Friday against Colorado. The situation isnt a new one for the Indians, who were unable to reach long-term deals in the past with CC Sabathia and Cliff Lee and were forced to trade the former Cy Young Award winners. Masterson emerged as the staffs No. 1 starter last season, when he went 14-10 with a 3.45 ERA. He made the All-Star team for the first time. Its the Indians preference not to negotiate any player contracts during the season, the team is aware of fan reaction concerning the teams long-term goals. "We are fortunate that Justin is here for this season," Antonetti said. "There will be other junctures where we can explore an extension with him — its just not right now. We dont want any distractions but if there is a right time to talk about it, were open to it." The Indians signed outfielder Michael Brantley to a four-year, $25 million contract last month. Theyve had preliminary talks with All-Star second baseman Jason Kipnis about an extension, and they could be facing a decision with shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who is in the final year of his contract. Antonetti said the six-year, $105 million contract pitcher Homer Bailey signed with Cincinnati has an influence on the teams talks with Masterson. Bailey is 24-22 the last two seasons while Masterson is 25-25. "Thats one of the contract extensions thats in the marketplace," Antonetti said. "We are very cognizant of that contract but there are others. We made an earnest effort to offer Justin a contract that was fair relative to the marketplace, but we didnt attach it, nor do we ever, attach it to any one contract specifically." Antonetti would not discuss the possibility of a new deal for Kipnis. Manager Terry Francona does not expect the breakdown of negotiations to negatively affect Masterson — or his teammates. "It wont affect his performance," Francona said. "I dont know how it doesnt affect you. Its a big part of your life, but I think Mastys got his act together. Ive never seen someone who had his priorities together as much as Masty." Francona believes there will be discussion in the clubhouse, but believes his team will stay focused. "I bet the guys will be bummed out a little. I think they all like him and Chris (Antonetti) wanted to get it done or he wouldnt have tried but it doesnt carry over," he said. "Thats the way the game is. Thats why they set the deadline, lets not let this go into the season. "Realistically, you cant sign everybody you want to or everybody would be signed. For the Indians to be talking to him about that type of money, shows how much they like him," he added. "Just because you dont get a deal done doesnt mean you dont respect or care about that player. It has to fit into the parameter of the team." Nike Air Max 90 Svart Blå . This list is based purely on their performances this season. It is not a list of who we think the best 50 players in the league are. Fourteen members were asked to take part (panel below) and submit their top 20 players of the season. Their list was then placed into a scoring system and then the totals determined the overall positions in the top 50. Each day this week we will release the list in 10s. Seamus Coleman (Everton) – The eighth member of Evertons team to make the top 50 and the best of them all, according to the panel, as well as a recent award ceremony at Goodison Park. The right back had a superb season for Roberto Martinez, continuing the development that began under David Moyes. Six goals from defence certainly helps players get attention, but the Irishman was more than just a goal-scorer, defending brilliantly and making intelligent runs to create key overlaps in wide areas. Named on nine ballots, 125 pts. 9. Sergio Aguero (Man City) – The Argentine has now played three full seasons in the Premier League and, probably, the league has yet to see him at his true best. The 25-year-old is a genuine world class star, arguably one of the finest talents to grace English football in years, but his best season in the Premier League remains his first, as he has only started 41 games over the last two years. Injuries limited him to starting only 19 games this campaign, but his 17 goals show what he could do if he were fit. Rumors continue to swirl that he may go to a Spanish giant this summer, but the Premier League and Manchester City will be desperate for a healthy Kun to play over 30 league games next season. If he does, he could be number one this time next year. Named on 10 ballots, 139 pts. 8. Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) – Another player whose ranking would be much higher if injuries didnt take away a large chunk of his season. The early candidate for player of the season, Ramsey was a magician at the heart of the Gunners midfield, starting 17 of the clubs first 18 league games and scoring eight goals. Arsenal averaged 2.16 points per game during that stretch, however, the Welshman started just two of the last 21 league games and Arsenals points per game average dipped to 1.7. Only 23, Arsenal fans are excited at the prospect of a healthy full season for Ramsey to play alongside Mesut Ozil next year. Named on 11 ballots, 156 pts. 7. Adam Lallana (Southampton) – Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and now Adam Lallana. The noted Southampton academy certainly has produced some excellent youngsters in recent years, but none of them has made Saints fans smile as much as Lallana. Now 25, Southampton has nurtured the midfielder into an English international and the key, central, play-making cog in their system. Lallana doesnt have the pace of any of those other graduates, but he is an excellent distributor who demands the ball in tight quarters and doesnt spend too much time on it, adhering more to the continental model than the English game. Comfortable playing wide, when asked, his lateral movement in those areas helped his game and the clubs attack. Named on 11 ballots, 164 pts. 6. David Silva (Man City) – If the Premier Leaguee has been denied of seeing the true, consistent brilliance of Aguero, Man City have certainly made up for it with David Silvas displays each week.dddddddddddd No player in the league has more elegance than the Spanish wizard who is the driver behind the tempo and movement of Citys passing moves. Silva, quite simply, has made City better, showing them how to pass and move, create angles and drift across the field to bring in attacking full backs to provide width. All of his skills ensured he absolutely dominated Manchester United at Old Trafford and then carried City on his back during their comeback at Anfield in the second half. If he scored more goals, you could be looking at the real player of the season, but it is not as if City needs more goalscorers. Named on 13 ballots, 213 pts. 5. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) – The Liverpool skipper has one act left in the drama that has been the 2013/14 season. Cruelly, if Man City win the league on Sunday, the image for many, of his campaign will be the slip in the middle of Anfield against Chelsea. What shouldnt be forgotten, however, is how he adapted to a deeper role, making many sensational passes from deep areas. There were far too many to name, but the one to Daniel Sturridge at Fulham with the outside of his foot was sensational, as was the one to Luis Suarez that helped win them a penalty at West Ham. Gerrard was brilliant from set-pieces and the spot too, scoring crucial goals to build the momentum late in the season, including ones at Old Trafford and the winner in the final minute at Fulham. Named on all 14 ballots, and as high as third by three members, 234 pts. 4. Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool) – There are many faces at Anfield standing for something. Sturridge, signed in January of 2013, is the face of the Rodgers Revolution, one that really kicked into high gear once Chelsea accepted 12 million pounds for the forward. The 24-year-old is the only Englishman, other than Wayne Rooney, to score 20 PL goals in a season since 2010 and one of his best came back in August against Aston Villa that showed his all-around qualities, drifting out to the wing before picking his moment to run into the box. He then showed tremendous ball control, dancing around the defenders before looping the ball over Brad Guzan in the Villa goal. It was an outstanding goal helped by teammates who didnt touch the ball and one that rightfully got his manager off his seat to applaud. Rodgers was full of praise, afterwards, for his striker and didnt stop short at a bold prediction: "I think he can be one of the top scorers in the league this year." He was right. Named on all 14 ballots, and second on two, 265 pts. 3. Eden Hazard (Chelsea) – The Belgian ends the season in hot water with his boss, dropped against Norwich, after he called out Jose Mourinhos style in the Champions League semi-final loss, but the truth is Hazards brilliance arrived at Stamford Bridge much earlier than the talent needed to assemble around him. He is far from the finished article, occasionally losing concentration defensively on his flank, not taking over games as his talent should dictate, instead waiting for the conditions of the game to allow him to get involved, rather than vice-versa. However, Chelsea need Hazard as much as he needs them and it will be interesting to see how Mourinho goes about massaging his ego over the next few months. Without any good strikers this season, the creativity for Chelsea fell on the shoulders of the trio in behind them and Hazard is far better than the rest in that position, even though Oscar and Willian have showed great promise. Named on 13 ballots, and second on two, 266 pts. 2. Yaya Toure (Man City) – There is no footballer in the world that is like the Ivorian. That doesnt make him the best, but it does mean it is extra special to watch the power and dominance he exudes from the midfield position. There are few better sights in the league than his surging runs from deep, gliding past terrified defenders. The former Barcelona man has been playing at a world class level for a number of seasons now, but elevated his level this season, becoming just the second central midfielder (Frank Lampard was the other) to score 20 Premier League goals in a season. If he plays at this level for a couple of more years, Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane will have some serious competition for a spot in the all-time Premier League midfield. Named on all ballots, and first overall on two, 315 pts. 1. Luis Suarez (Liverpool) - Like many geniuses, there are many sides of Suarez, who is truly the polarizing superstar the Premier League desires. Some love to hate him, others hate to love him, but the man who started the season suspended for biting an opponent, ends it as the best player in the league. There are many responsible for the remarkable rise of Liverpool, from seventh in the table to serious Premier League contenders in less than a year, but it is hard to argue that the main reason for their success is the brilliance of the Uruguayan. The 27-year-old can score all different kind of goals, is a lethal finisher and gives defenders nightmares with all sorts of different tricks. He spent all of last summer trying to move to a contender, but by December signed a new long-term deal at Liverpool. The Reds may turn out to win nothing this season, after all, but their biggest scalp may well be proving to Suarez that they are legitimate, perennial contenders for the title. Named on all ballots, first overall by 12 of the 14 members, 405 pts. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

LOS ANGELES -- The Miami Heat played the final minutes the way championship teams are supposed to. The Los Angeles Clippers are still perfecting the art of closing out games against the elite teams. LeBron James had 31 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds, Ray Allen hit a clinching three-pointer in the final minute, and the Heat snapped a five-game road losing streak against the stubborn Clippers with a 116-112 victory on Wednesday night. Allen had 15 points off the bench for the two-time defending NBA champions, who began a six-game road trip that will be interrupted four games in by the All-Star break. Dwyane Wade, one of seven Miami players scoring in double figures, had 14 points and eight assists in his 700th regular-season game. The Heat had lost 10 of their previous 12 road games against the Clippers, and hadnt beaten them at Staples Center since Dec. 9, 2007. Los Angeles, coming off Mondays stinging 116-115 loss at Denver on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by ex-Clipper Randy Foye, got a season-high 43 points and 13 rebounds from Blake Griffin and 31 points from Jamal Crawford. DeAndre Jordan extended his franchise record of consecutive double-digit rebound performances to 29 games with 16 boards and 16 points. The Pacific Division champions are 11-6 since Chris Paul went down with a separated right shoulder on Jan. 3 at Dallas. With Darren Collison and Crawford replacing Paul and J.J. Redick (sore right hip) in the starting lineup, the Clippers bench produced only two points -- a 20-foot jumper by Jared Dudley with 3:17 left in the first quarter -- until Willie Green hit a pair of free throws to pull Los Angeles within 91-84 with 9:51 to play. Allen, who holds the NBA record for career three-pointers, converted a four-point play after Green fouled him behind the arc. That extended Miamis lead to 99-87 with 8:07 remaining. His second three, a rainbow from the left corner, made it 112-107 with 42.4 seconds to go. "Thats when the talent kicks in," James said. "The play was broken down a little bit, but D-Wade made a heck of a play by getting into the paint, and Ray just kept moving into his favourite spot -- one of those corners. D-Wade found him with a great pass, and Ray nailed it." Allen, in his 18th NBA season, played in his 1,271st regular-season game and overtook John Havlicek for 19th place all-time. "Hes a pro and he takes care of himself. Hes in just phenomenal shape, and he can run forever," said Clippers coach Doc Rivers, who had Allen for five seasons with the Celtics. "What impressed me the most when we were in Boston was his professionalism and his ability to make big shots. Ray could go 0 for 20, or 20 for 20, and the next day hed be the first guy in the gym, shooting all of his shots from his exact spots at the exact speed. Ray lives that." The Clippers, who held Miami to just two field goals over the first 7:47 of the fourth quarter, narrowed the gap to 99-95 with a 10-0 run capped by Griffins tip-in with 5:15 left. But James responded with a three-pointer and a layup 53 seconds apart. "Obviously weve had our battles with Doc, being in the Eastern Conference for so long, so we know how well his team is going to be prepared," James said. "I think it was just our mental toughness, especially in the third quarter when they made their run. We just stayed composed and found a way to get a win. We made stops and executed offensively." The Heat opened the third quarter with an 11-5 run that extended their seven-point halftime lead to 73-60. Wade set up an alley-oop dunk by James, and Mario Chalmers hit a three-pointer from in front of the Clippers bench to cap the rally with 8:48 left in the period. Chalmers basket put all of Miamis starters in double-figure scoring. Griffin led all scorers in the first half with 22 points and Crawford added 18, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the second quarter. But the Heat led 62-55 at intermission after shooting 57 per cent. Miamis ball movement was superb from the outset, recording assists on all but one of its first 18 field goals and building a 43-24 lead with 9:44 left in the second quarter. The Heat had 33 assists on 41 field goals overall. "We pride ourselves on moving the ball, and we know that makes it easier for all of us," James said. "We keep everyone in a rhythm when were passing the ball and sharing the ball. Tonight we had some turnovers, including myself. I mean, I was the main culprit (with seven), and Ive got to be more conscious of that and not turn the ball over so much." NOTES: James was called for a reach-in foul against Griffin with 3:17 left in the third quarter, his first of the game, and was assessed a technical foul by referee Bill Kennedy for complaining about it with Miami leading 81-69. ... The Clippers began a five-game homestand that includes four opponents that entered Wednesday with a combined 126-62 record -- Portland and division leaders Miami, Toronto and San Antonio. ... Miami improved to 8-2 against teams that currently lead their division. The Clippers are 3-6 in that department. New Balance 574 Trainers Grey . Gano became the first of Carolinas 20 soon-to-be unrestricted free agents to re-sign with the Panthers on Friday, signing a four-year contract. Financial terms were not released. "Im really excited to be back in Carolina," Gano said. "It is where my family and I wanted to be. I love the organization and feel this is the best place for me." The 26-year-old Gano is coming off a successful season, converting 24 of 27 field goal attempts while helping the team to a 12-4 record and the NFC South title. He set a franchise record and tied for the NFL lead with six made field goals from 50 yards or more. He was the only NFL kicker with three or more attempts from 50 yards or more without a miss from that distance. "The special teams unit was a large part of our success last year and we are excited to keep Graham as a part of our team," Panthers coach Ron Rivera said in a news release. "Graham has shown range and accuracy in his field goal kicking, and his strong leg has been a weapon for us on kickoffs." Of his 82 kickoffs, 76 reached the end zone, including 63 for touchbacks, the highest percentage in the NFL since 1994. A five-year NFL veteran, Gano spent his first thhree seasons with the Washington Redskins.dddddddddddd He has converted 92 of 118 field goal attempts in his career. Gano tied the NFL record for most overtime field goals in a season with three in 2010, a mark previously accomplished by John Kasay for Carolina in 2003 and Jason Hanson for Detroit in 1994. Gano feels like he has some stability on the team, which has helped his game. "When I was in Washington I went through four holders and that took some getting used to," Gano said. "I finally got comfortable there and made my last 14 of 17 field goals. Ive carried over that consistency to Carolina." Gano said he was celebrating the new deal by taking his son to Chic-fil-A. Carolinas other unrestricted free agents include quarterbacks Derek Anderson and Jimmy Clausen, wide receivers Domenik Hixon, Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn Jr., tight end Ben Hartsock, offensive linemen Geoff Hangartner, Travelle Wharton, Garry Williams and Bruce Campbell, defensive end Greg Hardy, defensive tackle Colin Cole, linebackers Jordan Senn, Jason Williams and Dan Connor, safeties Quintin Mikell and Mike Mitchell, and cornerbacks Captain Munnerlyn and Drayton Florence. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

Join TSN.ca in a 30 Teams In 30 Days tour of the NHL in preparation for the upcoming season. Today, we examine the 2011-12 campaign for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Get the lowdown on their off-season and the issues they face this season. And use the Your Call feature to give us your take! Few teams overhauled their roster before free agency opened the way the Blue Jackets did. Columbus pounced on the Philadelphia Flyers unexpected talent sale and scooped up Jeff Carter just before the Entry Draft kicked off and then beat the rest of the league to James Wisniewski by acquiring his rights from Montreal. The pair adds instant punch to one of the NHLs lowest-scoring teams from last season and added some veteran pedigree to help take the load off Rick Nashs shoulders. The pressures on as the team enters its tenth season and for a team thats never won a playoff game, you can bet that General Manager Scott Howson expects immediate results after spending significant coin and precious future assets. Additions: C Cody Bass, C Jeff Carter, LW Alexandre Giroux, D Aaron Johnson, D Radek Martinek, LW Vaclav Prospal, C Ryan Russell, G Curtis Sanford, D James Wisniewski Subtractions: RW Mike Blunden, D Mike Commodore, LW Nikita Filatov, G Mathieu Garon, D Jan Hejda, D Sami Lepisto, C Andrew Murray, RW Scottie Upshall, RW Jakub Voracek Prospect Report: The man to watch in the Jackets system is 2010 fourth-overall pick Ryan Johansen. His promise and talent is part of the reason the Jackets didnt flinch when they gave up the sixth overall pick in the Carter trade. Johansen put up 40 goals in 63 games last year in Portland and was named to the World Junior Tournament All-Star Team. Others to keep an eye on include American blueliner John Moore, who may be ready to snatch the roster spot opened up by the teams decision to let Anton Stralman walk. The team also did well to get a first-round talent in the second round of the 2011 draft by grabbing two-way scoring threat Boone Jenner. Breakout Player to Watch: With over 200 career NHL games under his belt, it could be the time for Derrick Brassard to take it up a notch. The 2006 first-rounder has been hit hard by injuries since entering the league and he had a solid campaign last year with 47 points in 74 games. A full season could see him reach the 60-point mark. At 26, Grant Clitsome has certainly been a late-bloomer. His 19 points in 31 games last season could see him get more power play time. Marquee Match-Up: Oct. 22 at Ottawa - A New Future. The Blue Jackets have historically had mixed luck with their top prospects. While they hit a home run with Rick Nash, several high picks have missed expectations - including Nikolay Zherdev, Gilbert Brule and most recently, Nikita Filatov. The Senators took a chance that Filatov just wasnt meant for Columbus, and if he finally sticks in the NHL, he may well want to show the Blue Jackets what theyre missing. Other Dates to Watch: Sep. 20 at Winnipeg - The Blue Jackets become the first team to line up against the new Jets as they kick-off pre-season action at the MTS Centre. Nov. 5 at Philadelphia - Jeff Carter gets a crack at revenge after the Flyers pulled the chute on his career in Philly. Dec. 6 at Montreal - James Wisniewski gets his opportunity to show the Canadiens why the Jackets threw $33 million his way. Reason to Get Excited: This Blue Jackets have been built with only one thing in mind... goals. The team will hope to victimize opposing teams that are foolish enough to give Nash and Carter space in the offensive zone or fail to respect Wisniewskis point shot. If any one of Brassard, Vermette or R.J. Umberger can elevate their game to the 60-plus point level, the Jackets could wind up being one of the Wests more explosive offensive teams. If they can rack up a few lopsided victories early, it could end up being the difference between the first round of the playoffs and the draft lottery. Home Hardware: You have to feel bad for Rick Nash. He can be a one-man wrecking crew, but every opposing team knows that and covers him accordingly. If Carter can draw defenders away from Nash, he could hit an all-time high in goals and capture the Rocket Richard once more. Of course, it could work out the other way around and Jeff Carter could walk away with the trophy. The Jackets would probably be happy either way. On The Hot Seat: The Jackets will have to sink or swim with Steve Mason. Mason has been average since his phenomenal Calder campaign in 2008-09, posting a save-percentage around the .900 mark and a goals-against-average over 3.00 in each of the past two years. Mason posted 10 shutouts in his rookie season, but has only blanked the opposition eight times in the past two seasons combined. The team should score more goals this year, but that will be only a small consolation if Mason is anything less than stellar. Now goaltender Mark Dekanich has arrived from Nashville (Milwaukee) to back up Chris Mason. If Mason struggles again, Dekanich might see significant playing time. Its Your! Call: Is Columbus the future is now strategy the best course of action for a historically under-achieving franchise? Columbus is one of two existing NHL clubs to never have won a playoff game. The Atlanta Thrashers were in the same boat, but a fresh start in Winnipeg means the club can forget about that for the time being and focus on building a new legacy as a new team. While every franchise experiences post-expansion growing pains, the Jackets are now entering their second decade in the league and continue to be a bottom-10 team in the league. At what point does the teams philosophy have to change in order to right the ship? The team spent a lot of cash this summer to try to keep up in the Western Conference, but in addition to that, they also gave up a very good draft pick that could have brightened the future in the event that the teams fortunes dont change. While none of Sean Couturier, Dougie Hamilton or Ryan Murphy are guaranteed to sell extra seats in the Ohio Capital, another top prospect would have been a nice safety net for the organizations future if 2011-12 brings no improvement in the standings. But this team has gone that route for its entire existence with very little to show for it. So, is Columbus the future is now strategy the best course of action for a historically under-achieving franchise? LONDON -- Milos Raonic joined Eugenie Bouchard in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon as the talented pair continued their run at the record books. Eighth seed Raonic achieved his best career showing at the All England Club on Tuesday with a 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4), 6-3 fourth-round win over Japanese 10th seed Kei Nishikori. Raonic becomes just the second Canadian to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals in the Open era, which began in 1968. He next faces Australian wild card Nick Kyrgios, who shocked second seed Rafael Nadal with a 7-6 (5), 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-2 win later Tuesday. Bouchard made her way there on Monday with a defeat of Alize Cornet. She will face off in the next round against German ninth seed Angelique Kerber, who upset fifth seed Maria Sharapova 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-4, winning on a seventh match point. Bouchard hammered Kerber in the French Open fourth round a month ago. "The match against Bouchard will be a tough one," said Kerber. "I lost against her in Paris, but Im feeling right now better and Im feeling better on grass. "Ive never played her on this surface, so I will be focused like today just on myself." Raonic laid down 34 aces in his victory over Nishikori, who is coached by former French Open winner Michael Chang. Raonic broke three times, saved five break points against his serve and ended with 64 winners in the comprehensive victory. "Ive been serving in general well this tournament, and even throughout the clay court season," said Raonic. "But obviously here it sort of gets exemplified a little bit more. Its a little bit more on display. "Thats helping me, taking a lot of pressure off me and putting more so on my opponents." The 23-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., became the first Canadian to defeat Nishikori. Thee Japanese player had won his previous six matches against Canadians, including two against Raonic.dddddddddddd In mens doubles, veteran Daniel Nestor of Toronto and Serbian partner Nenad Zimonjic finished off a rain-delayed match from Monday as the third seeds reached the quarter-finals over Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay and David Marrero of Spain 7-6 (, 6-4, 6-4. Vancouvers Vasek Pospisil and American Jack Sock reached the third round over Indias Rohan Bopanna and Aisam Quereshi of Pakistan 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-3, 7-5. Raonic opened the match by losing his first service game, which allowed Nishikori to win the opening set in 39 minutes. Raonic fought hard to come back. He broke twice in the second set to get back level at a set each, and won the third set on a tiebreaker. Raonic earned a late break in the eighth game of the fourth set, then set up a match point with a service winner and advanced on his first opportunity a game later. Raonic said hes not particularly impressed by the records he is setting in his career. "To to this point there hasnt been as much Canadian success, especially on the singles side in the mens," he said. "You appreciate them, but you dont give them too much value because its ambitions that are beyond doing what no Canadian has done before. Its about really trying to become the best player in the world." Raonic said his serve will be key in his Wednesday quarter-final. "Ive been able to do that so far, its whats going to put the pressure on my opponent," he said. "Its whats going to give me a bit of freedom on the return games.
