Coach Mike OShea says they opted to stick with veteran Mike Renaud for punting and go with Canadian newcomer Lirim Hajrullahu for field goals and kickoffs. He says American Brett Maher was pretty much in a tie with the Canadians, and as an import he needed to win all three battles. "I said all along in that battle he had to win the job outright in all three phases and I think he drew even in all three phases," he said Monday after Maher was released. "I think it was a pretty even draw. . . And the way our roster shapes up, that wasnt necessarily good enough." But he says Maher is a quality kicker who should find a home if anyone watched what he did with the Bombers. Renaud is entering his sixth season with Winnipeg. Rookie Hajrullahu is a native of St. Catharines, Ont., whose 402 points and 72 field goals are records at Western, where he played for the Mustangs through 2013. Winnipegs roster issues when it comes to the import-Canadian balance werent helped any Monday with the news linebacker Graig Newman could miss the entire regular season, after suffering a serious ankle injury in their final pre-season game in Calgary. OShea held out some hope he might return earlier. "Graigs a guy we went after hard in the off-season and Im not saying hes done for the season," he said. "I know thats whats been said in the report but Im optimistic and sos he and well see him soon. Hes already in his mind figuring out his rehab and how hard hes going to work. . . Ask me again in a couple of months, three months possibly." Newman was scheduled for surgery Monday after dislocating and fracturing his ankle in their 23-20 loss to the Calgary Stampeders Saturday night, the Bombers second pre-season loss after bowing 24-22 to the Toronto Argonauts last Monday. "Graig is not only a great football player, but a great person, and our entire organization supports him throughout this process," general manager Kyle Walters said in a release. "We look forward to him beginning rehab and returning to the field as soon as possible. https://www.cheapredwings.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Wholesale Red Wings Jerseys. " The six-foot-one, 195-pound native of Langley, B.C., had 18 tackles and one sack last season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He also had one punt return for seven yards. "This is obviously very disappointing as I was really looking forward to being a part of all the new things going on in the Blue Bomber organization," Newman said in a statement issued by the team. "This is a great province to play football in, and I look forward to getting back out there as soon as possible." The Bombers also cut veteran Canadian offensive lineman Chris Kowalchuk on Monday. He was entering his sixth season, although he had only played a total of six games over the last two. They released three rookies as well, Canadian running back Errol Brooks and pair of imports, receiver C.J. Tarver and linebacker Kenny Tate. OShea says playing both pre-season games in less than a week was tough and he decided to give the players Monday off. "It makes it harder to practice right now," said OShea. "The guys had two games in six days, theyre tired and they need a little bit of a rest." He says its still training camp mode in terms of their practice shcedules, but theyre also getting ready for the CFL season opener, which will be played in Winnipeg against the Toronto Argonauts June 26. The break is timely, OShea said. "Our focus is cleaning ourselves up with the focus shifted to our opponent." He also said he has no worries about how the offensive line is shaping up, despite some criticism of the way they allowed Calgary to get to their quarterbacks on the weekend. "Theyre taking the techniques . . Theyre applying them in the game. . . By the time we roll into week one theyre all going to be better and theyre going to be better as a unit." He also said he wasnt worry about a defence that lost the battle in both pre-season games. "Im not concerned at all. I know what weve put in and I know that well keep working. The efforts there, the buy-in is there." ' ' '

Mikael Lustig admits the heat will be on Celtic when they take on Glasgow rivals Rangers in Sundays Scottish Cup semi-final showdown at Hampden Park. Dee Ford Super Bowl Jersey . Under manager Mark Warburton, Rangers have gained promotion to the Premiership and won the Petrofac Training Cup over the past week. And the city rivals are on a collision course following last years League Cup semi-final which saw the Light Blues escape with only a 2-0 defeat following goals from Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons. Defender Lustig insists his team are still superior to their neighbours but conceded the weight of expectation will press down heavier on Ronny Deilas men, even though the Premiership champions-elect have yet to hit top gear this season. Lustig feels Celtics better players will prevail against Rangers Asked if the pressure was on the Hoops, the Swede replied: Yeah I think so. We have the better players and the better team, so I can see why people would think that. Should we win? I think so.We havent done that good this year. We know we have more to give, that we can play better football, absolutely. I think we have learned now the last couple of games we can still win when we dont play well and that is a positive thing. Right now we have not reached the top of our game but I think were going to get there.Last year, Rangers didnt get promotion but now they have done it, so obviously they have probably had a better season. So maybe they have closed the gap.Watch the Glasgow derby on Sky Sports 2 HD from 11am this Sunday.By purchasing a Sky Sports Day Pass for £6.99 or Sky Sports Week Pass for £10.99, you can enjoy access to all seven Sky Sports channels and watch on a TV with a NOW TV Box or on a range of devices. Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi Kerry, I enjoy reading your column - hope you keep it up! In the final seconds of the third period of the Winnipeg/Montreal game, Brendan Gallagher looked like he was attempting to get back on-side. However, as he was starting to skate back, Al Montoya, Zach Bogosian and Jacob Trouba blatantly interfered with his progress. If the referee wasnt around, I would have thought that he just missed it. However, this all enfolded in front of a referee. It seemed the ref either purposely wanted the game to be over, sadistically wanted Gallagher to get roughed up, or favoured the Jets to win! Please explain why it wasnt a penalty and what (if any) you would have done differently. Regards, Lee Hi Lee: I can assure you that none of the three assertions you made were even remotely part of the referees mindset or affected his ultimate decision not to assess a penalty against the Jets. Instead, Brendan Gallagher engaged in a losing battle of will with the referee when he attempted to draw a penalty by embellishing the contact with Zach Bogosian (twice) and Al Montoya. Once a referee suspects a player is guilty of embellishing he does not want to be fooled into calling a weak penalty as a result of any theatrical performance. The battle lines were pretty much drawn at that point when Jacob Trouba came off the Winnipeg bench on a change with Tobias Enstrom. Troubas most direct route to assume his right defense position from the Jets bench placed him on a collision course with Gallagher, who had just picked himself up off the ice after turning on Bogosians stick, reaching his hand to the rafters and doing a reverse fall onto his back! No penalty call was forthcoming at that point. I would have judged the encounters with Bogosian and Montoya no differently than the referee, based on the embellishment that was first initiated by Gallagher behind the Jets net. The next obvious question you will ask is if the referee deemed there was embellishment, then why not assess offsetting penalties? With under a minute to play and the puck dumped down the icce most referees would prefer to let the minor skirmish quickly play itself out and not affect the manpower on the ice when there was no immediate and direct bearing on the play. Raheem Mostert Super Bowl Jersey. That changed in my judgment however, once Jacob Trouba knocked Gallagher to the ice with a slightly buried shoulder and stick placed across the body of the Canadiens pin-ball forward. With the puck in the neutral zone Trouba needed to give way to Gallagher and pass behind the Montreal player to allow him unimpeded exit from the Jets end zone no differently than forward giving way to a D-man backing up at the blue line. That contact by Trouba was deserving of an interference penalty. The previous embellishments clearly witnessed by the referee would certainly cause some doubt as to the legitimacy of any foul committed against Brendan Gallagher so the refs arm remained down. I ask you to watch the play as objectively as possible and freeze-frame the action at key moments during the battles that took place. You should see Gallaghers hands initiate contact with Bogosian behind the net and the changing body posture of both players throughout the engagement. The final shove by Bogosian should not have caused the net to be pushed in an excessively tipped forward position by Gallagher. During and immediately following each player confrontation Brendan Gallagher made direct eye contact with the referee, including verbal appeals for a penalty call. It became a failed mission. Brendan Gallagher had a much more direct route available to him to exit the Jets end zone. He chose a path that ultimately led him into contact with Al Montoya and deep within the goal crease. Following the Montoya elbow push, Gallagher threw his head back excessively and immediately looked at the referee this time and on two more subsequent occasions hoping to see a raised arm. Gallaghers unnatural fall and look back at the ref after tripping over Bogosians stick completed the trifecta! Players that embellish on a consistent basis run the risk of not receiving the benefit of the doubt when they are legitimately fouled. Brendan Gallagher is too effective and too good a player to develop that unwanted reputation from the refs. ' ' '

Scoring in five of nine innings goes a long way to posting a W. Derrick Nnadi Super Bowl Jersey . The Winnipeg Goldeyes (15-9) did just that in a 7-4 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (15-9) at Newman Outdoor Field in North Dakota Sunday afternoon. The win is Winnipegs first regular season victory in Fargo since August 2012 and avoids a third consecutive sweep in Fargo to the RedHawks. The Goldeyes scored single runs in each of the first three innings, including a lead-off home run by Ray Sadler in the top of the third inning that gave Winnipeg a 3-1 lead. After Fargo responded with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game, Winnipeg restored the two-run lead in the top of the sixth. Josh Mazzola singled in Donnie Webb, and Reggie Abercrombie scored on the same play thanks to a throwing error by Fargo third baseman Ronnie Bourquin, who was trying to catch Mazzola in a run down between first and second base. An inning later, Luis Alen dumped a single into centre field, which scored Tyler Kuhn and Jake Blackwood.Fargo tallied a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the RedHawks comeback bid fell three runs short.Alen was Winnipegs leader offensively with three RBI in the game. "Thats what Luis does," Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea said on the Jewel 101 post-game show. "He puts the ball in play, finds the gaps and gets the big hits with men on base." On the bump, Chandler Barnard went 5 1/3 innings in his Goldeyes debut to get the win. He allowed three runs on six hits. "He has a hard, heavy sinker," Vermilyea said. "Once he established that and threw it over the plate, they didnt put too many good swings on it. He looked good, especially joining a new team in the middle of the season." Kyle Bellamy pitched the ninth inning for his fourth save of the season. Fargos starter Danny Gutierrez suffered the loss for the RedHawks. After playing the Field of Dreams Golf Tournament tomorrow, the Goldeyes begin a six-game homestand Tuesday night against the Grand Prairie AirHogs, who will be making their first visit to Shaw Park. The St. Paul Saints will make their first of three visits to Winnipeg next weekend for the back half of the homestand. Larry Johnson Super Bowl Jersey . The New York Rangers centre had a goal and two assists in a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators ending a 13-game goal-scoring drought.DENVER -- Peyton Manning welcomed Wes Welker back into the lineup with a touchdown toss and the Denver Broncos narrowly avoided a repeat of their playoff slip from last year, advancing to the AFC championship game with a 24-17 win over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. The Broncos (14-3) took a 17-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers then capitalized on an injury to cornerback Chris Harris Jr. to stage a comeback reminiscent of Baltimores shocking win at Denver exactly a year earlier. This time, however, Manning rescued the Broncos from the brink of another crushing collapse and sent them into the title game for the first time in eight seasons. Theyll host the New England Patriots (13-4) on Sunday. Get ready for Brady vs. Manning once more. In the most recent matchup of QBs with Hall of Fame credentials, Tom Brady and the Patriots rallied past Manning and the visiting Broncos 34-31 in overtime on Nov. 24. "Its the Broncos versus the Patriots and certainly Tom and I have played against each other a lot," Manning said after beating San Diego. "But when you get to the AFC championship, its about two good teams that have been through a lot to get there." Manning ended a personal three-game post-season skid in winning for the first time since leading Indianapolis over the Jets 30-17 in the AFC championship game on Jan. 24, 2010. Manning completed 25 of 36 passes for 230 yards and two TDs, numbers that werent quite up to the standards he set during a record-breaking regular season when he established new benchmarks with 55 TD throws and 5,447 yards through the air. But it was windy and the Broncos were intent on establishing the run and controlling the clock. San Diego had Manning and his high-octane offence cooling their cleats on the sideline for more than 38 minutes in both of their meetings during the regular season, when both teams won on the road. Denver had the ball for 35 minutes, 27 seconds in this game, to San Diegos 24:33. After gaining just 18 yards on the ground against San Diego last month, the Broncos ran for 133 yards, including 82 by Knowshon Moreno, whose 3-yard TD run put them ahead 24-7 with 8:12 left. After that, things got interesting. Quentin Jammer, who gave up San Diegos first TD, a 16-yarder to Keenen Allen early in the fourth quarter, surrendered a 49-yard catch by Allen on fourth-and-5 from the San Diego 25 with seven minutes left. That led to Allens second TD, also from 16 yards out, that pulled the Chargers to 24-14 with 5:43 leftt. Tyrann Mathieu Super Bowl Jersey. Eric Decker then made his third big blunder of the day, flubbing the onside kick, which San Diego recovered. Nick Novaks 30-yard field goal with 3:53 pulled the Chargers (10- to within a touchdown. Novak followed with a pooch kick, and Trindon Holliday secured the ball at the Denver 27 with 3:51 left. Manning converted two third-down throws to tight end Julius Thomas, the first one a nifty 21-yarder on third-and-17 from his 20 and then a third-and-6 from his 45-yard line. Then, on third-and-1, Moreno burst up the middle for 5 yards with a minute left and the offensive linemen high-fived each other. All Manning had to do at that point was take a knee -- just like he did last year at the end of regulation after Jacoby Jones had hauled in Joe Flaccos 70-yard desperation throw with 31 seconds left to tie the game. In that game, coach John Fox ordered Manning to take a knee even though he had three timeouts left so he could take his chances in overtime. And the Broncos lost 38-35 in double overtime. Those boos were replaced by cheers in this game, the scowls by smiles. Allen finished with six catches for 142 yards as the Chargers lost for the first time in six weeks. The Broncos took a 14-0 halftime lead that could have easily been 21-0 if not for blunders by Decker, who tripped with no defender near him at the San Diego 30-yard line after a 47-yard punt return. Then, on third-and-goal from the 4, Manning hit him with a perfect pass as he cut across the back of the end zone, but it bounced off his chest and into the arms of linebacker Donald Butler with 30 seconds left. Manning threw up his arms in disbelief after his first red zone interception of the season -- following 39 red-zone TDs. Thomas also had a turnover, but it wasnt that costly as Novak slipped and his foot hit the ground on a 53-yard field goal try that was short and wide left. The Chargers were the only opponent to win in Denver all season, prevailing 27-20 exactly a month earlier when the Broncos were missing Welker (concussion) and went 2 for 9 on third down. Welker finished with six catches for 38 yards, although he dropped his first pass and also couldnt hold onto another 27-yarder at the goal line. Manning led a 14-play, 86-yard drive that chewed up 7 minutes on Denvers first drive. He capped it with a 2-yard strike to Demaryius Thomas, then hit Welker from 3 yards out in the second quarter to make it 14-0. This was the 109th meeting between the original AFL rivals but the first in the post-season. ' ' '

NEW YORK -- Mets closer Bobby Parnell was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a partially torn elbow ligament and will be sidelined until at least late May. Lane Taylor Super Bowl Jersey . Parnell will be out much longer if it turns out he needs surgery. But first, he will try resting for two weeks before beginning a throwing program that could last up to a month, general manager Sandy Alderson said. If that doesnt heal Parnells right elbow sufficiently, he likely would require surgery. "Its conceivable, I guess, that we would cut that off earlier than four weeks if we thought he wasnt making progress," Alderson said. "Theres always the risk that it will completely tear. But because of the location, the doctors were comfortable with the conservative approach." The move was made retroactive to April 1. New York selected the contract of veteran right-hander Kyle Farnsworth from Triple-A Las Vegas and added him to a suspect bullpen that flopped on opening day. Alderson said some of the clubs starters at Las Vegas will pitch out of the bullpen over the next couple of months to get accustomed to that role. That probably will not include top prospect Noah Syndergaard. "We have some great arms and at some point it will be important for us to see them," Alderson said. In other moves, second baseman Daniel Murphy was placed on paternity leave and the Mets recalled infielder Wilmer Flores from Las Vegas. Flores started at second against Washington left-hander Gio Gonzalez. Chris Young, who missed the opener with what was described as a minor right quadriceps strain, made his first start for the Mets but never came to bat. Young played the first inning in left field before he was lifted for Andrew Brown in the top of the second. Three innings later, the Mets announced Young left the game with tightness in his right quad. Young joined the team as a free agent in the off-season, signing a $7.25 million, one-year contract. Murphy is expected back in time for Thursdays matinee. He and his wife, Victoria, welcomed a baby boy named Noah on Monday. To make room for Farnsworth on the 40-man roster, the Mets sent right-hander Ryan Reid outright to the minors. Parnell threw 25 pitches in the season opener Monday against the Nationals and blew a save, giving up Denard Spans tying double in the ninth. New York lost 9-7 in 10 innings. It was the right-handers first save opportunity since a neck injury that eventually required surgery sidelined him for the final two months last season. Parnell complained of tightness in his right elbow after the game. The Mets said he was examined Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery, had an MRI and was diagnosed with a partial tear of the right medial collateral ligament. The team said he received a plasma injection. The Mets already are without All-Star ace Matt Harvey, expected to miss the entire season following Tommy John surgery Oct. 22 for a partial tear of his right ulnar collateral ligament. Jose Valverde, a three-time All-Star, takes over as the closer. The 36-year-old right-hander has 286 saves in an 11-year big league career with Arizona, Houston and Detroit. "I feel bad for Bobby. What I want is for Bobby to be OK," Valverde said. "I want this guy to come back soon. I want him closing games for the Mets." Seattle, West co-leader Real Salt Lake and East leader Sporting Kansas City all have 42 points. With the series even at 2-2, Game 5 between the Toronto Raptors and New Jersey Nets at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday should be quite the event. TSNs Jack Armstrong offers his thoughts on the series so far. 1. Improved Offence: Though the Raptors struggled mightily in the second and third quarters, they were impressive in the first and fourth and overall took much better care of the ball and exhibited better shot discipline. That must continue against an outstanding defensive opponent. Got the ball swung to the weakside and made the defence shift enough to get quality looks and just seemed less rattled and a little more sure of what they wanted to accomplish per trip. Still room for lots of improvement and theyll need it; will take the Nets best punch so far in this series on Wednesday. 2. Defensive Details: Much better job guarding the ball straight up and limiting straight-line drives and easy paths to the paint. Have to stay sound and stop closing out on perimeter guys out of control and going for pump fakes that lead to drives. Better job here. Really worked hard to contest shots. Help was very good in the fourth quarter and the rotations and communication were sound. 3. Red Alert: Game 5 and youre all even. Needless to say the pressure and excitement will be there for both sides. It comes down to this the next 48+ hours: which team stays focused better on the task at hand? Which team really locks in better on the game prep and the subtle adjustments you have to make perr game? Do you stay true to your fundamental habits and execute them? At this point, youve played each other eight times already so theres no secrets. Elgton Jenkins Super Bowl Jersey. Whos going to be better and can sustain the edge? Lastly, with all the hype/hoopla surrounding you, are you able to maintain your poise/composure and get at the task at hand. Not easy for either side yet this is what makes the games so much fun. 4. Joe Johnson: Raptors did a nice job getting the ball out of his hands and making him work for his shots. No Landry Fields and in spite of John Salmons not scoring, his effort was outstanding in this matchup. He fronted him at times in the mid/low post and whomever was guarding Johnson stood their ground better and the help/double came quicker and harder. An absolute must in Game 5. Hell be looking to make a statement early and often to re-establish himself. 5. Raptors Square: What a scene! Believe me. NBA folks along with players and agents take notice of whats going on outside the ACC and compare it to the level of passion/interest they see in the other 29 NBA markets. Were in the recruitment and retention business; every little bit helps gain the upper hand on your opponent. The level of passion and love for the sport that people see from fans all across Canada right now will help Raptors ownership and management in so many ways continue to improve the organization on many fronts. You the fans are making your own statement. Keep it up. Thanks! ' ' '

ASHBURN, Va. Cameron Erving Jersey . -- Mike Shanahan gave Robert Griffin III a rest, and may have turned up the pressure on himself, too. The Redskins coach announced Wednesday that he was benching the star quarterback for the rest of the season. Kirk Cousins will start, and Griffin will be the inactive No. 3 quarterback behind Rex Grossman. Shanahan said he is benching Griffin to keep the quarterback healthy for the off-season, pointing out the 24 sacks and other hits Griffin has taken over the last five games. He said he ran the idea by owner Dan Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen, and that both offered their support. "Youve got to take a look at the risk and reward," Shanahan said. "And with Robert I thought that his hits were piling up on him, giving him his toll, and I was afraid that we would set him back." Shanahan cited the need for Griffin to have a full off-season of development after missing this years workouts while rehabbing from knee surgery. But theres no certainty that Shanahan will be around to coach in the off-season: The Redskins have lost five straight and are 3-10, their third losing season in Shanahans four years in Washington. "I think anytime you have a year left on your contract and you have three wins, thats going to be out there," Shanahan said Griffin was clearly unhappy with Shanahans move. "I expressed my desire to play," Griffin said. "Of course I want to be out there and finish the season with my guys, see it through. He explained to me his reasoning, and at the end of the day Coachs decision is what we go with it." Cousins took the first-team snaps as the team worked out in the indoor practice bubble to prepare for Sundays game against the Atlanta Falcons. Players say Griffin ran the scout team. The benching is the latest twist in a Shanahan-Griffin relationship that has been bordering on contentious since a playoff loss to Seattle last season, when Griffin remained in the game even though he was clearly injured. Shanahan conceded for the first time Wednesday that continuing to play Griffin "cost us the game." Griffin had reconstructive knee surgery a few days later and missed vital months of developmental work before returning for Week 1 in September, but he hasnt been the same player that won the leagues Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012. With defences taking away the read-option, he has struggled as a drop-back passer, ranking 26th in the NFL in passer rating with 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. However, while Griffin hasnt had the same explosiveness, both he and Shanahan have insisted that the quarterback is medically healthy. Until this week, Shanahan publicly quashed any suggestions about a possible switch, saying Griffin needs as much game experience as possible. Shanahan said Wednesday that he first brought up the idea of benching Griffin last week in a conversation with Snyder, having decided that risk of injury outweighed the reward of experience. Both Griffin and Cousins are second-year players. Cousins played in all or part of four games, including the playoff loss, last season because of various Griffin injuries. Grossman hasnt taken a regular season snap since 2011. In recent days, the open question has been whether Shanahan might resign -- and thus forfeit a years salary -- or wait to be fired at the end of the season. Theres also the possibility he and Snyder could negotiate a settlement, and that the benching of a healthy franchise player could in some way be Shanahans way of getting some leverage in those talks. "Somebody said, Hey, the reason why youre going with Kirk is youre trying to get fired and get a year left on your contract," Shanahan said. "If I want to try to get fired, Im not going to call up Dan Snyder and ask his opinion on a player (when) I dont have to. And if he says no, Im not going to go in that direction." But Shanahan again conceded he might not return for a fifth season. "I dont know until I sit down with Dan," Shanahan said. "Then well find out what I think. Ill give him my opinions, and hell give me his opinions. Maybe we just hit it off and everything and I get that 12-, 15-year contract." "Well, maybe three-year," he added with a smile. "Whatever it is. Thats where grown men talk at the end of the year and you find out, Hey, whats the best way to go." Chad Henne Jersey . According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, it doesnt appear the offer was warmly received by the team. Blue Jackets director of hockey operations John Davidson and general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said on Wednesday the team has made offers of $6 million for two years, $32 million for six and $46 million over eight years but each one was refused by the restricted free agent centre and agent Kurt Overhardt. MORGANTOWN, W. Custom Chiefs Super Bowl Jerseys .Va. -- It was tough to tell what Remi Dibo enjoyed more: being the centerpiece of West Virginias 3-point show against No. 11 Iowa State, or clamping down on Big 12 scoring leader Melvin Ejim. Dibo scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Mountaineers to a 102-77 victory Monday night, the Cyclones most lopsided loss of the season. Dibo went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc as West Virginia tied a season high with 13 3-pointers. A native of France who finished his high school career in southern West Virginia and played last season at Wyomings Casper College, the 6-foot-7 Dibo made his fourth straight start and fifth overall. "I think my teammates did a great job of finding me," Dibo said. "I think its been a while. Theyve been doing a good job finding me and I was not responding. But I did today." Juwan Staten added 19 points and Eron Harris and Terry Henderson each had 16 points for the Mountaineers (15-10, 7-5 Big 12). Iowa State (18-5, 6-5) had five players in double figures, led by Georges Niangs 17 points. But Ejim, coming off a Big 12-record 48 points and a career-high 18 rebounds against TCU, was guarded by Dibo and held to six points -- 12 below his average -- on 1-of-9 shooting. "We just knew we couldnt let him score 40 points on us," Dibo said. "We had to make an effort on him." The Cyclones fell behind by double digits midway through the first half and trailed by as many as 32 points late in the game. It was the most lopsided loss for Iowa State since a 23-point setback at Texas in January 2011. "It was pretty much, start to finish, just a poor effort on our end," Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg said. West Virginia shot 54 per cent (35 of 65) from the field, hit a season-high for points and improved to 2-1 amid a stretch of four straight games against ranked opponents heading into a matchup Saturday at No. 19 Texas. Iowa States outside scoring was virtually nonexistent until it was too late. The Cyclones were held to 37 per cent shooting (26 of 71) in losing their fourth road conference game. West Virginia coach Bob Huggins called it "by far the best" defensive effort from his team this season. Dustin Hogue added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Cyclones while Deandre Kane had 14 points, Matt Thomas 13 and Monte Morris 10. Kane, a Pittsburgh native, had more than 50 relatives and friends in attendance. He went 1-2 against the Mountaineers while he played at instate rival Marshall and was booed and taunted whenever he touched the ball. "Tonight we just didnt have it," Hoiberg said. "I dont know what it was. This group has been very focused and given everything all year." West Virginias lack of bench scoring had stood out in a double-digit loss to No. 7 Kansas on Saturday. On Monday, the Mountaineers reserves outscored Iowa States 27-15. "We had pretty much the same shots against Kansas, but we didnt make them," Huggins said. "Today, we made them." Trailing 52-33 at halftime, Iowa State put together its best stretch and closed the gap to 58-44 5 minutes into the second half before West Virginia again pulled away. The Cyclones went 4 minutes between field goals after that, and West Virginia got a big boost from its bench to keep the pressure on. Freshman Nathan Adrian made two baskets and two free throws, and Kevin Noreen doubled his season scoring average with a layup and two free throws. Dibos 3-pointer with 6:53 left gave the Mountaineers their largest lead, 86-54. "We just stuck to the game plan," Dibo said. "We couldnt let them make a run to come back. We knew from the past every time we had a lead, we had let teams come back, and we knew we couldnt let that happen." The only drama for West Virginia came when Harris was ejected for a flagrant foul with 4:25 left. After the game, West Virginias players went into the student section to celebrate. Damien Williams Jersey . Louis Cardinals continued their offensive tear with a 9-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a four-game series. Emmanuel Ogbah Jersey . PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Fred Jackson has no plans of slowing down any time soon. The 33-year-old running back signed a one-year contract extension with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, placing Buffalos unquestioned leader on offence under contract with the Bills through 2015. "I just love to play this game," Jackson said. "Usually when guys get to be my age theyre ready to kind of shut it down and not come out here and get beat up like we do at training camp, but I wake up every day and I love it. Im blessed to have an opportunity to play for a team like the Buffalo Bills." Jacksons unlikely success story has made him one of the most popular Bills of the last decade. A former undrafted free agent from tiny Coe College, Jackson is known as much for his slashing, punishing running style on the field as well as his character and leadership away from it. Jackson earned a spot on the Bills practice squad in 2006 after years of toiling away in various minor leagues. He became a full-time starter in 2009, topping the 1,000-yard mark with 1,062 yards rushing, and has been an integral part of the teams offence ever since while sharing time in the backfield with players like C.J. Spiller and Marshawn Lynch. Jackson doesnt appear to be slowing down with age. Following an injury-plagued 2012 campaiign, Jackson rushed for 890 yards and nine touchdowns last season while battling two separate knee sprains. Derrick Nnadi Jersey. In 2011, he had one of the most productive years of his career, averaging 5.5 yards a carry and nearly topping the 1,000-yard mark in just 10 games. Jackson has rushed for 5,121 yards and 28 career touchdowns while adding 2,139 yards and six touchdowns as a receiver. "Freds been a great pro," Bills coach Doug Marrone said. "In my time here with him hes been a very good leader and very productive. ... Age is a number for him. He really doesnt seem that way. The way he runs and the way he prepares himself is a credit to how he takes care of his body." Jackson hopes that this new deal will give him an opportunity to finish his career with the Bills, whenever that is. "I want to play as long as possible, but if I can get three or four more years Ill be happy," Jackson said. "But well see what happens." Jacksons 7-year-old son, Braeden, then spoke up while standing next to his father at the podium: "Can I tell you how many years Id like you to play? Five." "Five more years, thats where Ive got to go," Jackson answered to laughter. "By that time, Ill have (one of my other kids) telling me to do something different." ' ' '

It was a whirlwind beginning to his fresh start with the Kansas City Chiefs. Williams was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers a day earlier, and didnt fly into Kansas City until after midnight. Still, the Chiefs believe hell be able to contribute on special teams when they travel to Denver for their big showdown Sunday night. "Its a quick turnaround," Williams said Thursday. "We have a big one on Sunday, and hopefully I will be able to get in there and make something happen." Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub said that Williams could serve as a backup kick and punt returner right away, something that he had plenty of experience doing in San Francisco. Offensive co-ordinator Doug Pederson said it would be unfair to expect Williams to contribute on that side of the ball against the Broncos. Williams said it was "like they were speaking Spanish" as he tried to get up to speed on the Chiefs offensive terminology. "Right now well just see how it goes," Pederson said. "Hes a tough, physical kid with some speed, so we just have to get him and practice and see what hell do." Williams wasnt out of work for long after he was waived by the 49ers, where hed spent his entire four-year career. He was snapped by the Chiefs in fewer than 24 hours, reunited with former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith and wide receiver A.J. Jenkins. In fact, it was Jenkins who told Smith that Williams was joining the Chiefs. "He was kiind of surprised," Jenkins said. https://www.cheapjerseyslines.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">NFL Cheap Jerseys. "We didnt even know they had waived Kyle until he signed here. But hes excited for the new opportunity, the new start he has." Williams acknowledged that he was happy to get a fresh start after a period of dark days in San Francisco. He had two costly fumbles in a loss to the Giants in the NFC championship game following the 2011 season, and received death threats and was harassed on social media. He was on a roll last season before tearing the ACL in his left knee. "Im not trying to run from anything that happened there or anything like that," Williams said. "Im excited about the opportunity. Im excited about joining a team thats had as much success as weve had here. There were some times out there, definitely some learning experiences, but moving forward, Im just excited about the future." Williams said he wasnt told by the 49ers why they decided to part ways, but his production this season likely had something to do with it. He had just 12 catches for 113 yards, and has continued to deal with fumble issues that have plagued him much of his career. The Chiefs were enamoured of his speed and playmaking ability, though, and were in desperate need of help at wide receiver. Dwayne Bowe is facing a suspension at some point for his weekend arrest for speeding and marijuana possession, and he hasnt been that productive anyway. Donnie Avery and Dexter McCluster have also disappeared at times. "How they use everybody, the types of playmakers over here, theyre explosive," Williams said, "and theyve made plays so far. Its my job to fit in and help out wherever I can." ' ' '

PHOENIX -- Brandon McCarthy chalked up his recent struggles to mechanical flaws. Dustin Colquitt Jersey . After earning only two wins with the Arizona Diamondbacks this season, McCarthy consulted video and worked with pitching coach Charles Nagy. The result was one of his best outings of the season. McCarthy turned in seven strong innings, and Paul Goldschmidt drove in two runs to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Monday night. After a shaky first inning, the 6-foot-7 McCarthy (3- allowed only four runners over his final six innings. It was his first win since he beat San Diego on May 28. His other victory was a shutout at Miami on May 18. "I felt I carried my weight, and nice to see a positive result," McCarthy said. "I never felt that strong this season and went back to watch video from before I went on the disabled list last season. I saw some mechanical issues, made a few adjustments, and am satisfied with the results." McCarthy lasted only into the third inning in his previous start, a 10-7 loss to the Reds. He allowed seven runs and eight hits in 2 1-3 innings. Goldschmidt stretched his NL-leading RBI total to 103 with his first triple of the season and a ground out. He has the most RBIs for an Arizona hitter since Luis Gonzalez drove in 104 in 2003. After Will Venable and Alexi Amarista opened the game with singles, Yonder Alonso hit a grounder wide of first. Goldschmidt fielded the ball and threw to second to force Amarista, but shortstop Didi Gregorius throw to first was wide and beyond McCarthy, who was covering the bag. Venable scored the unearned run. But that was all the Padres would get against McCarthy and Eury De La Rosa, who pitched a perfect final two innings. "The story was we couldnt get any runs," Padres manager Bud Black said. "I thought (starter Tyson Ross) was fine." Between the first inning and when he left the game, McCarthy allowed a one-out single in the third to Venable, a two-out single in the fourth to Chase Headley and a two-out single to Ross (3-7) in the fifth. He hit Jedd Gyroko with a pitch with two out in the sixth. "I didnt think I threw all that bad in the first inning," McCarthy said. "I just followed (catcher) Miguel Monteros lead and didnt shake him off one time." Though his pitch count was 58 through four innings, McCarthy was more efficient in the later innings. He threw 93 pitches in seven innings. Adam Eaton was hit by a pitch to open the fourth, and Goldschmidt hit a twisting drive into the right field corner that hit off the fence. Martin Prado then followed with a sacrifice fly to give Arizona a 2-1 lead. Prados grounder to third with the bases loaded in the sixth was booted by Headley. Two more runs scored to make it 4-1. Prado has hit in 11 of his last 12 games for a .361 average, and has driven in 19 runs in that stretch. "Im taking advantage of the situation," he said. "I had a difficult course over the first few months and its good to get going this way." In the seventh, Goldschmidt grounded into a force play with the bases loaded, scoring Aaron Hill. The Cowboys scored nine of the games first 11 points and maintained control throughout the opening 20 minutes. They led by as many as 12, but that edge was whittled down to 32-25 at halftime. Mitchell Moroz and Curtis Lazar scored the goals for the Oil Kings, who have looked a lot slicker at home as they improved to 10-0 on home ice and tied the Ed Chynoweth Cup at two heading back to Portland, Ore., for Game 5 on Friday. "At the end of the day, we know we are the underdogs in this series," said Oil Kings head coach Derek Laxdal. "However, we are tied 2-2 in the series going back to Portland. We are going to have to win one game in that building and our mindset is why not Friday night? "We want to make a series of this. We want a chance to win the Western Hockey League championship. These kids have worked hard to get it to 2-2. Some people wrote us off when we were down 2-0, but you have to give our guys credit. We came out tonight with probably our best effort in the playoffs thanks to (Tristan Jarrys) goaltending and the leadership of guys like (Griffin Reinhart)." It was the first game of the series that the Oil Kings werent trailing within the first three minutes and Moroz said it was nice not to have to dig themselves out of a hole for once. "We came out the way we wanted to in this game," he said. "We had some chances early and didnt capitalize, but we kept working away at it. We didnt give up the first period goals this time, which was nice, not having to battle back like we did in the other games. "We just played our game. We stuck with it and were patient." The Winterhawks have lost two in a row after allowing only three losses in their previous 45 games, a string of success dating back to Jan. 11. "We didnt get the start that we wanted tonight," said Portland forward Adam De Champlain. "We came out a bit flat. Having to kill seven penalties hurt us and it really allowed them to feed off their fans. When we had the momentum we had trouble sticking it. We didnt have the energy we needed on the bench." It was the first time since December 2011 that the Winterhawks, who led the league with 338 goals this season, have been shut out. "Its playoff hockey, everyone understands the goals are harder to come by," said Winterhawks head coach Mike Johnston. "There are going to be moments like this. It is just a bit of adversity for us to handle right now. We just need to get through it. "We just have to regroup. It is a best two-out-of-three series now." The Oil Kings had a much better start to the game than the previous three outings as they avoided allowing a goal against in the first three minutes of the matchup. Edmonton actually had the bulk of the scoring chances in the first until the Hawks came back late. The Oil Kings had 14 shots in the scoreless first on Portland goalie Corbin Boes, while the Winterhawks responded with 13 on Jarry, a second-round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2013. Edmonton finally broke the scoring deadlock nine minutes into the second period. After sustained pressure on the shift, a Dysin Mayo shot caromed off the boards and rolled off the top of the net to Moroz in front where the Edmonton Oilers draft pick slammed his fifth goal of the playoffs past Boes. Jarry prevented Portland from tying the game up two minutes later as Oliver Bjorkstrand picked the pocket of Reid Petryk at the Edmonton blue-line, but couldnt beat the Oil Kings goalie on the partial breakaway. The edge in shots had increased to 28-18 for Edmonton by the end of the second period. The Oil Kings made it 2-0 six minutes into the third as Brett Pollock threw a hard pass on net on a two-on-one and Lazar was able to tip the puck through Boes legs. It hit the post, but then went in off of the Portland goalies skates to count as the Ottawa Senators prospects eighth goal of the playoffs. Edmonton kept driving and it was only the heroics of Boes that kept the game close midway through the third as he stopped breakaways by Petryk and Lazar in a span of just over a minute midway through the third. The Oil Kings thought they put the game away for good with an empty-net goal by Pollock, however the play was ruled off-side. Notes: The Winterhawks managed to score in the first three minutes of each of the first three games of the series, holding an edge of 7-0 in first-period goals in the series coming into Wednesdays game. ... Its the third consecutive season that the Oil Kings and Winterhawks are meeting in the WHL final. Edmonton defeated Portland in seven games to win in 2012, while Portland won in six games last year. It is Portlands fourth consecutive trip to the league championships. ... The Winterhawks power play was just 1 for 13 through the first three games of the series. ... Portland has 10 players on its roster who have been drafted by NHL teams, while the Oil Kings have five. Demarcus Robinson Jersey . For the Bombers it has been a combination of things coming together at the most inappropriate moments in time. Quarterback, injuries, Canadian talent or depth and leadership are all issues. Trust me when I say being a Bomber is no fun right now in a city that embraces football the way Winnipeg does. Stokley sustained a concussion in Sundays game against the Minnesota Vikings. He has had multiple concussions over his 15-year career, and the Ravens determined after testing that the 37-year-old would not be able to return anytime soon. Stokley began his career with the Ravens in 1999 and signed a one-year contract as a free agent in August. He battled through a series of injuries and played in only six games, catching 13 passes for 115 yards. ANAHEIM, Calif. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Wholesale Flames Jerseys . -- Chris Iannetta swung the bat like a guy who definitely didnt want to catch one more inning. Iannetta homered with two outs in the 12th against Drew Pomeranz, giving the Los Angeles Angels a 5-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night. It was his fourth career game-ending home run. "It never gets old -- your first one, your last one, whatever it may be. Its an awesome feeling," Iannetta said. Pomeranz (1-1) retired David Freese on a grounder to second base and Raul Ibanez on a foul pop to the catcher before Iannetta drove the next pitch to centre field and just out of the reach of a leaping Craig Gentry, ending Oaklands four-game winning streak. "I was just looking for a pitch to hit. It was a fastball over the middle of the plate and I got the barrel to it," Iannetta said. "I know I hit it really well. But Angel Stadium at night, you never know -- and Gentrys a really good outfielder. He almost jumped out of the gym on that one. I think it went off his glove, so I was very thankful that he didnt make an awesome play." Angels manager Mike Scioscia got six scoreless innings out of his much-maligned bullpen, as the Athletics stranded runners in scoring position in the 10th, 11th and 12th. Joe Smith (1-0), who failed to retire any of the five batters he faced in the eighth inning of the Angels 10-9 loss on Tuesday night, pitched a scoreless inning for the victory. "Joe came back from the night before and pitched great. He had life on all of his pitches again," Iannetta said. "Its awesome that he came back and pitched the way he did, along with the rest of the guys. They really stepped up and pitched to their capabilities and just showed what they can do." Brandon Moss hit a three-run homer for the As in the fourth inning. Oaklands Jed Lowrie poked an opposite-field double inside the third base bag with one out in the 10th, but Michael Kohn struck out Yoenis Cespedes after Lowrie advanced on Josh Donaldsons flyout to centre field. Oakland left-hander Tommy Milone was charged with three runs -- two earned -- and six hits over six-plus innings in his second start and departed with a 4-1 lead. Los Angeles closed to 4-3 in the seventh with a pair of runs after a costly throwing error by first baseman and former Angel Alberto Callaspo, who had never played that position in the majors or the minors until this season. Dan Otero relieved Milone with two on and none out and Erick Aybar grounded into a force at second. J.B. Shuck followed with a grounder to Callaspo, who tried to start an inning-ending 3-6-3 double play. But his hurried throw couldnt be handled by shortstop Nick Punto and Iannetta scored from third. Albert Pujols added an RBI single one out later. The Angels put runners at the corners in the ninth with one-out singles by Mike Trout and Pujols, and Trout scored the tying run on a slow fielders choice grounder to third by Howie Kendrick. "We went to the ninth inning with the lead, but you put it behind you and move on," manager Bob Melvin said. "We werent very good defensively tonight." Callaspo also dropped a relay throw from second baseman Eric Sogard on a potential double-play grounder in the sixth by Freese. But the next batter, Ibanez, grounded into a 4-6-3 DP to end the inning. The As snapped a 1-1 tie in the fourth against Tyler Skaggs when Moss drove a 2-1 pitch into the right-field seats with two outs for a three-run homer after Callaspos RBI double. Skaggs was charged with four runs, seven hits and three walks in six innings. NOTES: The Angels will honour the late Jim Fregosi during a two-game interleague series against Philadelphia Aug. 12-13. Fregosi, who died Feb. 14 at age 71, was a six-time All-Star who spent his first 11 big league seasons as an Angels SS and managed them to their first division title in 1979. The goals took Liverpools tally in the Premier League this season to 70, overtaking Manchester City as the top scorers, and left the fourth-place team just four points behind league leader Chelsea. However, manager Brendan Rodgers refused to be drawn on Liverpools title hopes. "I think for us, were concentrating on our performance," Rodgers said. "Were just concentrating on winning games. No one is really talking about us for the title anyway. Everything now is about Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal." Sturridges first came in the third minute when he received a through ball from Raheem Sterling before rounding Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm and firing into an open goal. The striker then provided the assist for Henderson to double Liverpools lead in the 20th from the edge of the area. Jonjo Shelvey pulled one back for Swansea against his former club three minutes later with a long-range strike that went in off the crossbar. He held his arm up in apology to his former club, a gesture that received applause from the Liverpool fans. But the home supporters were shocked into silence soon after when Wilfried Bony equalized in the 27th minute, with his header from Jonathaan De Guzmans free kick taking a slight deflection off Martin Skrtel. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Custom Calgary Flames Jerseys. Sturridge gave Liverpool a 3-2 lead at halftime when he headed in from close range after a Luis Suarez cross had found him unmarked. Swansea levelled soon after the interval though when Bony scored a penalty after being fouled by Skrtel. Suarez went close to restoring Liverpools lead but Vorm saved well when one-on-one with the striker before De Guzman nearly gave Swansea the lead when he shot just wide from a free kick. Henderson struck the winner after receiving a pass from Suarez. His initial shot was parried by Vorm but the England forward reacted quickest to poke the ball in from close range. Despite the victory, Rodgers is hoping to see an improved defensive display against Southampton next weekend. "At 2-0, we should manage the game better," Rodgers said. "We are obviously very disappointed with the goals we conceded." Swansea manager Garry Monk tried to take the positives out of the defeat. "I cant complain about the effort from my players," Monk said. "Going forward, I think its a confidence boost to them that they can come to somewhere like this - where a lot of people thought they would wipe the floor with us, the way theyve been dismantling teams here - and we were in the game right up until the final whistle." Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork. https://www.49ersrookiestore.com/49ers-Kwon-Alexander-Jersey/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Kwon Alexander Super Bowl Jersey .com) - Boise State once again had a party in the Fiesta Bowl, even if it couldnt start celebrating until the very end. Jay Ajayi rushed for three first-half touchdowns, Thomas Sperbeck amassed a career-high 199 yards on 12 catches and the 21st-ranked Broncos stopped Arizona near the goal line on the final play to hold on for a thrilling 38-30 victory over the No. 12 Wildcats. Boise State built a 21-0 first-quarter lead and stayed in front the rest of the way, though Arizona got within eight yards of a potential game-tying touchdown before Anu Solomon was sacked by Kamalei Correa as time ran out. Ayaji finished with 134 yards on 22 carries in the Mountain West champion Broncos ninth straight win and third in the past nine Fiesta Bowls. Grant Hedrick threw for 309 yards with a touchdown and an interception while completing 24-of-34 passes for Boise State (12-2). Solomon had both a rushing and passing touchdown and put up 335 yards on a 28- of-49 completion rate, but the freshman also had a few rookie mistakes that hurt Arizona (10-4) in its first major bowl appearance since the 1994 Fiesta. He was intercepted twice, one of which was returned 16 yards for a critical touchdown by Donte Deayon late in the third quarter, and couldnt throw the ball away on Correas game-ending tackle on third down with the Wildcats out of time outs. Cayleb Jones had eight catches totaling 117 yards for Arizona. Nick Wilson rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown on 19 attempts in the loss, but sat out the entire second half with a head injury. The Wildcats got the ball back at their own 20 after Boise State, which managed just 74 yards in the second half after moving the ball effortlessly in the first, punted with 2:53 remaining while clinging to a 38-30 lead. Arizona moved the chains three times prior to Jones coming down with a leaping 43-yard catch that moved the Wildcats inside the 10-yard line with 21 seconds left. After spiking the ball, Solomon couldnt connect with David Richards in the end zone to set up a 3rd-and-goal. Solomon again wasnt able to find an open receiver while rolling right on the next play, and was taken down from behind by Correa as the final seconds ticked off the clock. Boise State appeared to have the game well in hand when Deayon stepped in front of Austin Hill and picked off Solomon before weaving his way into the end zone, with the defensive touchdown giving the Broncos a 38-20 advantage with 1:57 left in the third quarter. Solomon atoned for the miscue on the ensuing drive, buying time outside the pocket before heaving a pass down the right side that Samajie Grant hauled in for a 51-yard touchdown that came just 1:16 after the interception. An Ajayi fumble in Arizona territory with just over nine minutes to go helped the Wildcats draw closer, with Solomon connecting on 5-of-6 throws after the turnover to put Casey Skowron in range for a 32-yard field goal that trimmed the deficit to 38-30 with 3:06 left to play. Ajayi, who announced prior to the game he will be declaring for the NFL draft, did showcase his skills on his first carry of the day. The junior back burst through a gaping hole and outsprinted the Arizona defense for a 56-yard touchdown that sent Boise State ahead just 1:42 in. It was one of three touchdown drives for the Broncos to begin the contest. Hedrick, who completed his first 14 attempts, hit Chaz Anderson in stride down the left sideline for the second score, then went 3-for-3 for 67 yards on the Broncos next possession. Ayaji finished that one off with an impressive 16- yard touchdown after taking a behind-the-back handoff, a play very similar to the one that produced the winning points in Boise States memorable overtime upset of Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta. After generating little on its first two series, Arizona gained some momentum by putting together an 11-play, 65-march that featured the running of Wilson and Solomon, who capped the drive with a 1-yard keeper into the end zone. Solomon had an ill-advised pass intercepted by Cleshawn Page in Arizona territory on the Wildcats next trek, however. Hedricks 31-yard strike to Sperbeck shortly afterward set up Ajayis third TD, a diving 1-yard score that put Boise State up 28-7 early in the second quarter. The Wildcats answered with a 13-play, 83-yard sequence in which Wilson ran seven times for 43 yards, with the freshmans 1-yard plunge getting Arizona back within two touchdowns. Hedricks first incompletion, an interception that Cam Denson returned 31 yards to the BSU 30, led to the Wildcats cutting the lead to 28-17 on Skowrons 42-yard field goal with just 30 seconds left in the half. That was still enough time for the Broncos, as Hedrick hit on three straight attempts totaling 57 yards to position Dan Goodale for a 36-yard field goal. Boise State piled up 397 total yards over the first two quarters, led by Hedricks 272 through the air on a sparkling 17-of-18 completion rate. The Broncos went three-and-out on their initial three second-half possessions, but Arizona mustered only a 24-yard Skowron field goal over that stretch as both defenses stiffened in the third quarter. Game Notes In addition to its 43-42 win over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta, the Broncos posted a 17-10 triumph over TCU in the 2010 edition ... During their talk, Lemieux was reported to have discussed with Crosby how a captains erratic behaviour can negatively impact the team.Lemieuex told Crosby... "You cant behave the way you did at the end of the game, it gives off a bad vibe to your teammates, it gives off a vibe that might be portraying you in a negative light, especially when youre struggling."Lemieux followed that up with a statement that Crosby has most likely understood since the first time he stepped foot onto an NHL rink. "..star players just have to fight through things like this"Super Mario has been Sidney Crosbys mentor ever since the Penguins selected him first overall in 2005, and he certainly can empathize with the Penguins current captain on what it feels like when emotions get the best of a player during a heated contest.Theres no better example of Lemieux letting his emotions get the better of him than during this bout between him and then referee, Kerry Fraser. The incident started when Lemieux received a high-sticking penalty, and while he sat in the box Fraser skated over and shared a few words that sent the Penguins captain into an uncontrollable rage. Lemieux shot outt of the penalty box towards Fraser before being restrained by teammates and promptly sent to the dressing rooms with a game-misconduct penalty. https://www.49ersrookiestore.com/49ers-Kentavius-Street-Jersey/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Kentavius Street Super Bowl Jersey. The 1993-94 season was a trying one for Lemieux, just one year removed from announcing he had been diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma while also coming off of an off-season surgery to fix a herniated muscle in his back. The injury to his back caused Lemieux to miss fifty-eight games that season and his mounting frustration with his injuries began to show, especially in his incident with Fraser. There was another occurrence earlier in Lemieuxs career where he let his frustration boil over, one that would serve Crosby as a sobering reminder of what can happen when a star player picks a fight with the wrong guy. During a regular season game between the Capitals and Penguins, an irritated Lemieux engaged in a shoving match with Bob Gould that turned into a fist fight. The end result? A broken Jaw for Lemieux and a night spent at George Washington University Hospital.Crosby definitely already knows what it feels like to have a broken jaw, and were sure it wasnt too enjoyable. The last thing the Penguins need in Game 7 is their captain engaging in unnecessary fights. So, to Sid the Kid, it may be best to take Lemieuxs advice, as he certainly knows what happens when keeping it real goes wrong. ' ' '

IRVING, Texas - All signs point to DeMarco Murray playing for Dallas against Indianapolis despite the NFL rushing leaders broken left hand. Armani Watts Jersey .Murray was listed as questionable Friday a few hours after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on his radio show that the team should be able to count on him playing. The fourth-year back went through individual drills Wednesday before expanding his role in workouts Thursday and Friday. He says he will ultimately decide whether to play on Sunday.People deal with injuries all the time, so youve got to be able to fight through the pain, Murray said Thursday. These are some important games that weve got coming up, and I know how important they are. We know how important they are.The NFC East-leading Cowboys (10-4) can wrap up a playoff berth if they beat the Colts (10-4) and Philadelphia loses to Washington. But Dallas could miss the post-season with a loss in one of two remaining games if the Eagles beat the Redskins and New York Giants.Murray, injured late in last weeks win at Philadelphia that gave the Cowboys the division lead, has 1,687 yards rushing and needs 87 to break all-time NFL rushing leader Emmitt Smiths franchise record of 1,773.Rookie right guard Zack Martin didnt practice all week because of an ankle injury, but Jones was optimistic about him playing. With what we did yesterday in practice, Murray and Martin, Im pretty positive about having the ability to play them and to getting that decision, Jones said. Both of those guys, you should be able to count on.Jones indicated right tackle Doug Free wouldnt be available as he battles injuries to his left foot and ankle. Free missed three games earlier this season with a broken right foot.Murray had a large wrap on his hand Tuesday, the day after surgery to repair the bone above his left ring finger. But the wrap was significantly smaller Wednesday, and he said he did a lot more in practice a day later. This guy is like, theres nothing to hold this guy from doing anything, play caller Scott Linehan said. He sat out the final three games his rookie year with a broken ankle, missed six games with a sprained foot in 2012 and two more last year with a sprained knee. But now he has a 22-game starting streak, easily the longest of his career.Im competitive, very competitive person, and I want to help this team out as much as I can, said Murray, who has tied Smiths franchise record with 11 100-yard games this season. The NHLPA gave the go-ahead for the rule change that makes icing a race to an imaginary line across the faceoff dots instead of the puck, which was given a trial run during the pre-season. The goal is to prevent serious injuries, like the one that sidelined Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Joni Pitkanen for the entire season. Pitkanen broke his left heel bone in eight places on an icing touch-up in April. Its a similar injury to the one suffered by former Washington Capitals forward Pat Peake, whose career ended not too long after. "After testing hybrid icing during the pre-season games, the players participated in a survey and a majority of teams supported this rule change in an effort to make the game safer," NHLPA special assistant to the executive director Mathieu Schneider said in a statement. "We are hopeful that the implementation of the hybrid icing rule, which is a middle ground between the old rule and no-touch icing, will help minimize the incidence of player injuries on icing plays." Some players seemed happy with the change. "I think its good. It kind of brings the race a little bit further away from the end boards," Toronto Maple Leafs winger James van Riemsdyk said. "Once they do blow it or decide what to do with it, it gives you more time to react." Others expressed some doubts about hybrid icing, most notably hesitancy or unfamiliarity on the part of the linesman who has to make the call. "The normal reaction is right away Oh, we dont like it," Calgary Flames coach Bob Hartley said. "If the hybrid icing saves one injury this year, its worth it." NHLPA executive directoor Donald Fehr said in a phone interview last week that he hopes hybrid icing represents "an obvious safety improvement (that is) not otherwise damaging to the game," but conceded that its different from his vantage point and players. https://www.chinacheapjerseys.net/cedric-killings-jersey-store/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Cedric Killings Jersey Store. "Its going to require adjustment and while weve seen it ultimately work in college and in other leagues, its not the same as playing in the NHL, and were going to have to watch it very carefully because our game is played at a higher speed than anywhere else," commissioner Gary Bettman said. The AHL experimented with it last season during the NHL lockout, and it came with mixed reviews from players. Hartley said AHL coaches hated it for the first two weeks and loved it by Christmas. Its possible it takes time for NHL players and coaches to embrace it now. "Theres going to be some missed calls," Hartley said. "Its kind of a grey area. Its a judgment call and every time you create a judgment call, theres going to be some calls going your way or against you, calls you like and dont like." Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty expressed concern about a missed call happening at the worst possible time. "I know you want to protect the players and this is a step in the right direction, but Im just scared that that Game 7, game-winning goal is going to come down to a hybrid icing non-call and theres going to be a big uproar about it," he said. Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf prefers the traditional race to the puck over hybrid icing, but says he can live with the change. "I think for me personally its just what Ive been used to how the games been played for a long time, so obviously its an adjustment," Phaneuf said. "Youre going to adapt to either way." ' ' '

NEW YORK -- Make no mistake about it: Sean Doolittle and the Oakland Athletics are enjoying these wins over the skidding New York Yankees. Francis Martes Jersey . Yoenis Cespedes homered twice, Josh Donaldson hit a tiebreaking shot in the seventh inning and Oakland overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Yankees 7-4 Wednesday night for its fifth straight victory. The highest-scoring team in the majors this season, the As will go for a three-game sweep Thursday afternoon. They are 12-3 against New York since July 19, 2012. "I think theres the sense of the way we play that we have something to prove," said Doolittle, who earned his seventh save. "Weve got a little bit of a chip on our shoulder, small-market team, and we dont get a ton of national publicity. And when we get a chance to play against the Yankees on a big stage in their ballpark, guys step up." Donaldson connected off Jose Ramirez, who was making his major league debut, and added a pair of infield singles. Cespedes also had three hits to help the As move a season-best 15 games over .500 at 37-22, the best mark in the American League. "We never give up," Cespedes said through a translator. Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits, including an early three-run homer, but the Yankees matched a season worst with their fourth consecutive defeat. Theyve been outscored 21-0 from the seventh inning on during the slide. Derek Jeter made a costly error and New York dropped to 1-5 on a seven-game homestand with its 12th loss in the last 16 at Yankee Stadium. Jesse Chavez (5-3) hung around for six innings, long enough to get the win when his teammates rallied. Dan Otero got Brian McCann on a weak grounder with runners at the corners to protect a one-run lead in the seventh. Otero also worked a scoreless eighth and Doolittle got three quick outs to extend his career-best shutout streak to 16 1-3 innings. "Our bullpen down there is so deep and so well-rounded out that we really dont have a hole," Chavez said. "The guys come in and they attack, and I think thats why theyre so good in those situations." Cespedes started Oaklands comeback with a leadoff homer to centre in the fourth. Jed Lowrie hit a deep sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Yankees starter Vidal Nuno was pulled one out shy of qualifying for a win. He left with a 4-2 lead after 92 pitches. Cespedes hit another leadoff shot in the sixth, this one off Matt Daley barely clearing the short porch in right. Derek Norris reached on Jeters throwing error from shortstop and scored the tying run on Alberto Callaspos long sacrifice fly. "We had our chances to add on and we werent able to do it," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "The guys are doing everything they can, but right now we just arent getting it done." Just called up from the minors, Ramirez (0-1) entered in the seventh. He retired his first batter but then gave up Donaldsons 16th homer on his fifth major league pitch. The drive to left field gave the As a 5-4 advantage. "I was a little nervous," Ramirez said through a translator. "I wasnt really thinking about pitching tonight but I knew the chance would be there because of our bullpen situation." Oakland has gone deep in 12 consecutive games, hitting 22 homers during that span. "Anytime you fall behind 4-0, you dont really expect to win these games even though you might think it," Otero said. "Our offence, its only a matter of time sometimes before they break out, and they showed it tonight again." The AL West leaders added two insurance runs in the ninth on a hit batter and a sacrifice fly against Wade LeBlanc in his Yankees debut. Craig Gentry made a sensational catch in left-centre to rob Gardner of at least a double in the first. Moments earlier, Donaldson hit a trickler toward third that stopped rolling right on the line just inches from the bag. The slugger clapped his hands emphatically at first base, drawing chuckles from teammates in the dugout. "That ball didnt even get to third base," he said. "Its just one of those things where you really appreciate a hit like that." NOTES: Gentry started in place of CF Coco Crisp, given a night off to rest his nagging neck. ... Oakland has the best road record in the majors at 20-10. ... It was Cespedes fourth career multihomer games. The other three came in June last season. ... Yankees DH-OF Alfonso Soriano, hitless in 16 at-bats, did not play. ... Masahiro Tanaka (8-1, 2.06 ERA) faces Oakland LHP Drew Pomeranz (5-2, 2.37) in the series finale. NEWARK, N.J. - Dont write off the New Jersey Devils playoff chances, just yet. The Devils are getting good goaltending from Cory Schneider and Martin Brodeur, and anything is possible when the guy in the nets is on his game. The Toronto Maple Leafs are another story. Theyre struggling in goal with Jonathan Bernier out with a groin injury and they are barely hanging on to a playoff spot. It was on display Sunday night. Schneider made 21 saves and withstood a furious late attack and Devils posted a much-needed 3-2 win over Toronto, sending the struggling Maple Leafs to their fifth straight loss without Bernier. The win moved the Devils within five points of Toronto for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Washington is a point behind the Maple Leafs with a game in hand and Columbus is two points back with two games in hand. "I know the statistics dont say that but I really feel we can win every game," Devils coach Pete DeBoer said of the Devils playoff chances after winning for only the second time in six games. "You look at our schedule and if our goaltending continues to play the way it is, I think we can win every game." The Devils won this matchup by taking advantage of Toronto mistakes to take a 3-0 lead early in the second period. Rookie defenceman Jon Merrill set up a second-period breakaway goal by Patrik Elias and scored 32 seconds later to build the lead. Damien Brunner had scored in the first period. "Anything is possible," Devils captain Bryce Salvador said. "We are not looking 10 games ahead. Were just looking at the next game. Were trying to play every game like its the last game." Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel scored for the Maple Leafs, who saw embattled goaltender James Reimer give up three goals on 10 shots in less than 22 minutes of action. The skid ties Torontos longest of the season and it could not have come at a worse with nine games left in the regular season. New Jersey, which was shut out twice in its recent slide, capitalized on bad plays by the Maple Leafs. Brunner, who had been a healthy scratch the past two games, gave the Devils the lead with his 11th goal of the season. Defenceman Marek Zidlicky started the play with a pass up the ice to Adam Henrique that started an off-man rush. Henrique found Brunner coming down the right side and his shot from the circle went over Reimers glove. The game changed in the opening two minutes of the second period and Merrill was the catalyst. Controlling the puck in his own end, he made a stretch pass that got Elias behind defenceman Morgan Rielly. Elias skated in on Reimer and made a move to his backhand that deked the goaltender out of position for a shot into an empty net. Defenceman Peter Harrold, who had not dressed in the Devils 12 games following the Olympic break, carried the puck low into the Maple Leafs right circle and sent a pass toward the net. Ryane Clowe had it hit off him and go to the left point, where Merrill unloaded a shot that squeezed through the goaltender and rolled into the net. "I think that was the best 30 seconds of my career so far," Merrill said with a laugh. "Everyone in here believes. We know if we keep playing our game and doing things right, we are going to get wins and points and we can make it." Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle sent Drew MacIntyre to replace Reimer after the third goal. He had been playing for the AHLs Toronto Marlies this season before being recalled after Bernier was hurt. He finished with 14 saves. The Maple Leafs played a lot better the rest of the game. Bozak put them on the board at 5:26 of the second period, redirecting a pass by Rielly on a power play into an open net. Kessel got his 36th of the season with 1:31 to play after Toronto pulled its goaltender with more than two minutes left in regulation. Kessel crashed into the net after the goal but returned for a wild final 91 seconds in which Schneider made two big saves. "We have lot of games left we have to come together as a team and battle," said Bozak, who repeatedly said that the team let Reimer down and it wasnt fair to blame the goaltender. Carlyle refused to discuss his goaltending situation. "We have to find a way to stop the bleeding here and do everything in our power to regroup with this hockey club and get them playing to a higher level," he said. "When we do play for stretches, we look like a team that could play with anybody, and then we are inept in some areas where the puck doesnt bounce our way, or hits a post. All the good fortune we had earlier seems piled against us." Toronto had plenty of good scoring chances the rest of the way with none greater than a two-man advantage for 1:16 late in the period. Dion Phaneuf and Cody Franson had big shots that Schneider stopped in winning his second straight after losing the previous three. Schneiders best saves might have been early in the third period when he came across the crease and stopped James van Riemsdyk in close and made a glove save on Bozak after the Leafs pulled their goaltender. The game was David Clarksons first in New Jersey since signing with the Maple Leafs as a free agent after last season. NOTES: Bernier did not make the trip to New Jersey in missing his fifth straight game. ... Harrolds assist was his first point since Nov. 12 against the Rangers. ... ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Gary Kubiak was all set to stay in Baltimore, where hed had a terrific comeback as the Ravens offensive co-ordinator after getting fired from his head coaching job in Houston the year before. He turned down opportunities to interview for the head coaching vacancies with the Bears and Jets, and planned a vacation with his wife, Rhonda. Then, his cellphone buzzed. It was John Elway.Cancel the sand and the surf.Pack the skis instead. It was just a game-changer, Kubiak said Tuesday after being introduced as the 15th head coach of the Denver Broncos, where he spent 13 seasons either backing up Elway at quarterback or drawing up blueprints as his offensive co-ordinator.This place is special for me Kubiak said. And Kubiak held a hallmark spot in Elways plans after the Broncos general manager parted with John Fox a day after Denvers dismal showing in a 24-13 playoff loss to Indianapolis. He was at the top of the list, no question, Elway said, stressing, in my mind there is not a better guy to take over the Denver Broncos.Kubiak isnt fixing a 4-12 jalopy with high draft picks and low expectations but rather a 12-4 team that featured an NFL-high 11 Pro Bowlers. Yet, this team showed a striking lack of fire in that playoff loss to the Colts two weeks ago when the mantra all year was about atoning for that 35-point loss to Seattle in last years Super Bowl.Kubiak steps into a pressure cooker where Elway reiterated its always Super Bowl or bust, and where Foxs 49-22 record wasnt nearly good enough.Kubiak, who said his health scare in 2013 taught him to rely more on those around him, didnt flinch.Thats what I want to be a part of, Kubiak said, noting he thrived in that environment of high expectations as a player from 1983-91 and then serving on Mike Shanahans staff from 1995-2005, coaching the Texans from 2006-13 and assisting the Ravens last year.If youre working in this business, thats the opportunity you want, to win a championship. You want to be around people where thats the way they go about business, Kubiak said. So, I see that as a plus and thats something that I welcome and I look forward to.So, Kubiak, 53, is once again Elways No. 2.Believe me, he is the boss, Kubiak said. Thats all right. I want to coach. When it comes to football philosophies, Elway and Kubiak are kindred spirits, though.Johns the most competitive human being Ive ever been around, whether youre playing cards or pingpong, it doesnt matter, Kubiak said. I think Im very competitive, too. Thats probably why were still standing in this league because if youre not, youre not going to hang out for very long.I know what Gary Kubiak is about, Elway said. Ive had the pleasure of knowing him for 30 years, had a chance to play with him and play for him. I know his philosophies and I know what he can do. I know his goals are the same as mine and thats to win — and to win world championships.Thats something the Broncos havent done since Elway was QB and Kubiak was his offensive co-ordinator in 1998, when Denver won its second straight Super Bowl title. The big question now is will Kubiak be calling plays in 2015 for Peyton Manning or Brock Osweiler?Manning is mulling retirement after a difficult stretch run marred by a thigh injury and a dismal playoff performance.Kubiaks offensive philosophies are rooted in Bill Walshs West Coast system featuring the zone-blocking schemes that the Broncos fine-tuned in the 1990s and 2000s. But he said hes also one to adapt to his players strengths.Kubiak, who was unsuccessful in his attempt to talk Elway into putting off retirement in 1999, said hes spoken with Manning and plans to meet with him when things slow down. He said he would welcome back the five-time MVP, who turns 39 in March, and would mesh his offensive ideas with Mannings style. The offence Peyton runs, hes tremendous at it, back there in the gun controlling the game, controlling the line of scrimmage. Nobody has ever done it better and hes the master at it, Kubiak said. Actually, Im looking forward to learning that style and that system that he has. Were going to do what our team does best and what our players do best, and if Peyton Mannings playing, thats what he does best.Notes: Kubiak hired Joe DeCamillis as special teams co-ordinator. Coaches expected to stay on staff are: Tyke Tolbert (receivers), Eric Studesville (running backs), Luke Richesson (strength & conditioning) and Clancy Barone (from tight ends to O-line). Kubiak is expected to bring Rick Dennison (offensive co-ordinator) and Brian Pariani (tight ends) with him from Baltimore.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL <a href="http://www.thesf49ersshoponline.com/Youth-Emmanuel-Sanders-49ers-Jersey/">Emmanuel Sanders Super Bowl Jersey</a>. Tampa, FL - Tampa Bay Lightning sniper Steven Stamkos underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair a broken right leg suffered in Mondays game against the Boston Bruins. Though Stamkos is expected to return to Tampa to begin rehab later this week, there has been no timetable set on his return. Bolts GM Steve Yzerman said following his clubs 3-0 loss that the versatile forward will be out indefinitely. Stamkos suffered a fractured tibia while backchecking on a play in the Tampa Bay zone in the second period when he got tangled with Boston defenseman Dougie Hamilton. Stamkos fell to the ice and slid feet-first before his lower right leg slammed into the right post, forcing the net off its moorings. Scott Cullen presents the 2014 Trade Deadline Playbook for the Western Conference. There is greater depth at the top of the Western Conference, however, which could lead to something of an arms race as St. Louis, Chicago, Anaheim and San Jose each have at least 80 points, Colorado is at 79 and even Los Angeles, well back with 68, has been a contender in recent seasons, so theyre not likely to go quietly without doing something either. Dallas is clinging to the final playoff spot at the moment, with 64 points, but there are still four others within four points, so there is some sorting to do before teams make their final call whether they are pushing their chips into the middle to go all-in, or folding for another season. A couple of notes about the following chart: Restricted Free Agents (RFA) have contracts that expire this summer, barring a contract extension in the meantime, but their current team retains the right to match a contract offer so long as they make the requisite qualifying offer. While restricted free agents havent moved a lot, its worth noting when decision time is coming on a young players contract. Unrestricted Free Agents (UFA) have contracts that will expire this summer and, without a contract extension, they will be free to sign with whatever team they choose on July 1. These are the players that often move in "rental"-type deals, ideally providing a short-term fix with minimal commitment required. Top prospects are the top five players in each organization. Other top prospects or those that are now with the NHL team may be listed among other players of interest. Contending teams may be more likely to dangle a top prospect or two as they try to find that final piece for their playoff mix, while its safe to assume that young and rebuilding teams arent going to move top prospects unless they get a significant long-term piece in return. Other players of interest will include additional prospects as well as players under contract for future seasons that may have some level of attractiveness on the trade market. IMPORTANT: Just because a player is listed as being of interest, it doesnt mean he will be traded or should be traded. Some may just be of interest for teams looking to hit a home run when trying to swing a deal or they are players that may be considered to be underachieving for the money they are due over the rest of their contract. Generally, then, heres a rough guide for which players each Western Conference team might have at their disposal in order to make a trade leading up to the deadline. The Eastern Conference Playbook can be viewed here. ANAHEIM DUCKS UFA in 2014: Saku Koivu, Dustin Penner, Teemu Selanne, Daniel Winnik, Tim Jackman, Jonas Hiller. RFA in 2014: Mathieu Perreault, Jakob Silfverberg, Sami Vatanen. Top Prospects: John Gibson, G, Norfolk (AHL)Emerson Etem, LW, Norfolk (AHL)Rickard Rakell, C, Norfolk (AHL)Shea Theodore, D, Seattle (WHL)Nicolas Kerdiles, C, Wisconsin (WCHA) Others of Interest: Kyle Palmieri, Matt Beleskey, Patrick Maroon, Bryan Allen, Luca Sbisa, Devante Smith-Pelly, William Karlsson, Jesse Blacker, Kevin Roy. No-Trade Clauses: Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Saku Koivu, Teemu Selanne, Sheldon Souray (modified), Francois Beauchemin (modified). The Plan: Its been a tremendous year to this point, but Ducks have relied quite a bit on their supporting cast so it would be entirely understandable if they might want to raise the bar by adding a left winger to play with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry on the top line. If the Ducks are bona fide Cup contenders, and with more points than any other team in the league thats the position they pretty much have to take, they could bolster their blueline with another top-four calibre defenceman too. Working in the Ducks favour, if they are prepared to add before the deadline, is that they have enough prospects and young pros that can be included to make those kinds of deals happen. G Jonas Hiller has been mentioned at various times this season as a trade candidate, but with Viktor Fasth injured for most of the year, that hasnt been a viable option, yet this is a team that has so much depth that they havent been able to find regular playing time for Emerson Etem and Devante Smith-Pelly, so there should be some flexibility up front. CALGARY FLAMES UFA in 2014: Mike Cammalleri, Lee Stempniak, Kevin Westgarth, Chris Butler, Reto Berra. RFA in 2014: T.J. Galiardi, Paul Byron, Joe Colborne, Lance Bouma. Top Prospects: John Gaudreau, LW, Boston College (HE)Jon Gillies, G, Providence (HE)Sven Baertschi, LW, Abbotsford (AHL)Markus Granlund, LW, Abbotsford (AHL)Emile Poirier, LW, Gatineau (QMJHL) Others of Interest: David Jones, Ladislav Smid, Joni Ortio, Max Reinhart, Corban Knight, Morgan Klimchuk, Tyler Wotherspoon. No-Trade Clauses: Mike Cammalleri (limited), Matt Stajan (modified), Curtis Glencross, Dennis Wideman, Mark Giordano. The Plan: Its been a tough year for the Flames, but that makes it easy enough to set sights on next season. Building for the future is the priority so at least a couple veterans should be moved out so that Calgary can acquire assets that will be part of the long-term solution. Without a new GM to replace the fired Jay Feaster, team president Brian Burke will be making the calls leading up to the deadline, a day that he has decried as the source for many GM mistakes. Of course, if one GM makes a mistake, then that would be another general managers good fortune, right? In any case, once the Flames move out a couple of pending free agents, there should be opportunities for some late-season auditions and the Flames have some prospects that are ready for a look. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS UFA in 2014: Michal Handzus, Brandon Bollig, Peter Regin, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Sheldon Brookbank, Mike Kostka, Nikolai Khabibulin, Jason LaBarbera. RFA in 2014: Ben Smith, Antti Raanta Top Prospects: Teuvo Teravainen, C, Jokerit (SML)Kevin Hayes, C, Boston College (HE)Jeremy Morin, LW, Rockford (AHL)Brandon Pirri, C, Rockford (AHL)Mark McNeill, C, Rockford (AHL) Others of Interest: Kris Versteeg, Marcus Kruger, Ryan Hartman, Adam Clendening. No-Trade Clauses: Patrick Sharp (modified), Bryan Bickell (modified), Michal Handzus, Brent Seabrook (limited), Duncan Keith, Johnny Oduya (modified), Michal Rozsival. The Plan: The Blackhawks already added to their forward depth, at virtually no cost, getting Regin and Bouchard from Islanders and dont have to make dramatic moves to have a legitimate chance to defend their title. Theres still a reasonable argument to be made that the Blackhawks could use a better second-line centre, but they won with Michal Handzus logging those minutes last year, so its not as though they cant press forward with what they already have in-house. COLORADO AVALANCHE UFA in 2014: Paul Stastny, John Mitchell, Marc-Andre Cliche, Cory Sarich, Andre Benoit, Matt Hunwick, Jean-Sebastien Giguere. RFA in 2014: Ryan OReilly, Jamie McGinn, Tyson Barrie. Top Prospects: Joey Hishon, C, Lake Erie (AHL)Duncan Siemens, D, Lake Erie (AHL)Chris Bigras, D, Owen Sound (OHL)Calvin Pickard, G, Lake Erie (AHL)Michael Sgarbossa, C, Lake Erie (AHL) Others of Interest: PA Parenteau, Ryan Wilson, Nick Holden, Nate Guenin, Stefan Elliott. No-Trade Clauses: Alex Tanguay (modified). The Plan: Its been a great turnaround season for the Avs, but if they are seriously going to compete with the best in the West, they could really use a top-tier defenceman, which is never easy to acquire, let alone trying to do it in-season. RW PA Parenteau has found his name in trade rumours recently, and he could be used to help upgrade the blueline. With rookie Nathan MacKinnon emerging to take on a bigger role offensively, the Avalanche appear to have enough weapons that they could deal from that position of relative strength in order to bolster a blueline that lacks established talent behind workhorses Erik Johnson and Jan Hejda. Of course, with news that winger Alex Tanguay is done for the season, maybe the Avs would be better off holding Parenteau for the stretch run. DALLAS STARS UFA in 2014: Ray Whitney, Vernon Fiddler, Stephane Robidas. RFA in 2014: Antoine Roussel, Cody Eakin, Brenden Dillon. Top Prospects: Jamie Oleksiak, D, Texas (AHL)Brett Ritchie, RW, Texas (AHL)Devin Shore, C, Maine (HE)Jason Dickinson, LW, Guelph (OHL)Radek Faksa, C, Sudbury (OHL) Others of Interest: Alex Chiasson, Sergei Gonchar, Aaron Rome, Matej Stransky, Patrik Nemeth, Jack Campbell. No-Trade Clauses: Shawn Horcoff (modified), Ray Whitney (modified), Erik Cole, Rich Peverley (modified), Alex Goligoski (limited), Stephane Robidas, Trevor Daley (limited), Kari Lehtonen. The Plan: Hanging around the playoff race, the Stars could still consider sending out a couple of older veterans in order to build for the long-term. In the short-term, getting some more scoring help up front would be nice and, ideally another defenceman would offer some insurance in case Stephane Robidas doesnt recover soon enough from a broken leg to help a playoff push. The Stars may be stuck in between being buyers and sellers, which could open up opportunities to do a bit of both. Its a new opportunity for first-time general manager Jim Nill and it will be interesting to see how he approaches the trading game. EDMONTON OILERS UFA in 2014: Ales Hemsky, Ryan Smyth, Ryan Jones, Ben Eager, Nick Schultz, Mark Fraser, Anton Belov, Denis Grebeshkov, Ilya Bryzgalov, Ben Scrivens. RFA in 2014: Luke Gazdic, Jeff Petry, Philip Larsen, Justin Schultz. Top Prospects: Darnell Nurse, D, Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)Oscar Klefbom, D, Oklahoma City (AHL)Anton Lander, C, Oklahoma City (AHL)David Musil, D, Oklahoma City (AHL)Martin Gernat, D, Oklahoma City (AHL) Others of Interest: Sam Gagner, Jesse Joensuu, Martin Marincin, Roman Horak, Mitch Moroz, Taylor Fedun. No-Trade Clauses: Andrew Ference. The Plan: It seems fait accompli that the Oilers will finally deal RW Ales Hemsky and, given his strong play in the Olympics, they may want to up the asking price because more than a few contending teams ought to be interested in adding Hemskys offensive creativity. Otherwise, anything that could provide long-term value on the back end -- ideally a top pair defenceman -- remains a worthwhile objective, if not necessarily an easy acquisition. The emergence of rookie D Martin Marincin and the possibility of adding top prospect Darnell Nurse next season provides some promise, but if the Oilers are going to take advantage of the prime years for their skilled youngg forwards, they need defence that can handle the tough minutes ASAP.dddddddddddd Sam Gagners name has popped up as potential trade bait, but Edmontons first-round pick this year could be the difference-maker, either at the deadline or at the draft, if they increase their efforts to land a top-pair defenceman. LOS ANGELES KINGS UFA in 2014: Trevor Lewis, Colin Fraser, Willie Mitchell, Matt Greene, Jeff Schultz. RFA in 2014: Dwight King, Matt Frattin. Top Prospects:Tyler Toffoli, RW, Manchester (AHL)Derek Forbort, D, Manchester (AHL)Tanner Pearson, LW, Manchester (AHL)Linden Vey, C, Manchester (AHL)Nick Shore, C, Manchester (AHL) Others of Interest: Jarret Stoll, Kyle Clifford, Jordan Nolan, Robyn Regehr, Alec Martinez, Nikolay Prokhorkin, Valentin Zykov, Jonny Brodzinski. No-Trade Clauses: None. The Plan: While Los Angeles remains a dominant puck possession team, they need goals. Everything else about the Kings wear-em-down style of play can work in the playoffs, but they need more offensive production to provide a little wiggle room. Prospect Tyler Toffoli can be one improvement in that respect, and he was playing a significant role prior to the Olympic break, but if the Kings are going to challenge for the Stanley Cup, they can dip into a pool of young guys on the way up, move one or two, along with picks, to land a premier finisher. Whether that means Thomas Vanek, or former Kings Matt Moulson or Mike Cammalleri, there are some options out there that should help alleviate the Kings recent offensive woes. MINNESOTA WILD UFA in 2014: Dany Heatley, Mike Rupp, Clayton Stoner, Nate Prosser. RFA in 2014: Nino Niederreiter, Jason Zucker, Justin Fontaine, Darcy Kuemper. Top Prospects: Mathew Dumba, D, Portland (WHL)Erik Haula, LW, Iowa (AHL)Mario Lucia, RW, Notre Dame (HE)Brett Bulmer, LW, Iowa (AHL)Zack Phillips, C, Iowa (AHL) Others of Interest: Kyle Brodziak, Torrey Mitchell, Marco Scandella. No-Trade Clauses: Zach Parise, Dany Heatley, Mikko Koivu, Jason Pominville (modified), Matt cooke (modified), Ryan Suter, Keith Ballard (modified). The Plan: The Wild are hanging in playoff position, though as long as they are without C Mikko Koivu and G Josh Harding that hold on a playoff spot could be tenuous. Rookie G Darcy Kuemper has played well but, if Harding isnt back, are the Wild prepared to head into the playoffs with Kuemper and underperforming veteran Niklas Backstrom between the pipes? Additionally, and perhaps as companion to the idea of questionable options in goal, the Wild could improve their defence corps. Ryan Suter, Jonas Brodin and Jared Spurgeon take on big minutes and Marco Scandella has played well too, but if an established top-four defenceman is available, the Wild should be interested. NASHVILLE PREDATORS UFA in 2014: David Legwand, Devan Dubnyk, Carter Hutton. RFA in 2014: Nick Spaling, Michael Del Zotto, Mattias Ekholm, Ryan Ellis. Top Prospects: Filip Forsberg, LW, Milwaukee (AHL)Miikka Salomaki, LW, Milwaukee (AHL)Taylor Beck, RW, Milwaukee (AHL)Pontus Aberg, LW, Farjestads (SEL)Austin Watson, C, Milwaukee (AHL) Others of Interest: Matt Cullen, Victor Bartley, Jimmy Vesey, Brendan Leipsic, Colton Sissons. No-Trade Clauses: David Legwand, Patric Hornqvist (modified), Mike Fisher, Paul Gaustad (modified), Viktor Stalberg (modified), Eric Nystrom (modified), Pekka Rinne (modified). The Plan: Though they are in last place in the Central, the Predators are but four points out of a crossover playoff spot. There are too many teams in the mix to go all-in on playoff pursuit, but the gap is close enough to not throw in the towel completely (especially if G Pekka Rinne can get healthy enough to play a part in the stretch drive). Nashville has a terrific nucleus on defence, but need to upgrade their forward talent and its not necessarily easy to land young forwards with scoring potential, but the Predators did it last season when they picked up Filip Forsberg from Washington. At the same time, long-time Predators C David Legwand, who has a no-trade clause, figures to be an attractive commodity for contending teams that might want a second or third-line centre that can play both ends of the rink. PHOENIX COYOTES UFA in 2014: Radim Vrbata, David Moss, Paul Bissonnette, Jeff Halpern, Tim Kennedy, Derek Morris, Rostislav Klesla, Thomas Greiss. RFA in 2014: Jordan Szwarz. Top Prospects: Connor Murphy, D, Portland (AHL)Max Domi, C, London (OHL)Brandon Gormley, D, Portland (AHL)Henrik Samuelsson, C, Edmonton (WHL)Lucas Lessio, LW, Portland (AHL) Others of Interest: Keith Yandle, Michael Stone, David Rundblad, Tobias Rieder, Chris Brown. No-Trade Clauses: Mike Ribeiro (modified), Shane Doan, David Moss (modified), Zbynek Michalek (limited), Derek Morris (limited), Mike Smith. The Plan: Since the Coyotes are currently in a playoff spot, they probably have to look at adding something before the deadline, a scorer most likely, though they dont appear to be ready to match the teams at the top of the conference. But, this is also a team with new ownership and new owners tend to be more aggressive when it comes time to make decisions on player acquisition -- make a move, let em know youre there! Even if it means targeting second-tier additions, thats still the wise approach for a Coyotes club that has made its business around finding value year after year. ST. LOUIS BLUES UFA in 2014: Derek Roy, Brenden Morrow, Carlo Colaiacovo, Jaroslav Halak, Brian Elliott. RFA in 2014: Patrik Berglund, Vladimir Sobotka, Jaden Schwartz. Top Prospectsmitrij Jaskin, RW, Chicago (AHL)Ty Rattie, RW, Chicago (AHL)Thomas Vannelli, D, Medicine Hat (WHL)Jordan Schmaltz, D, North Dakota (WCHA)Jake Allen, G, Chicago (AHL) Others of Interest: Chris Stewart, Magnus Paajarvi, Ian Cole, Jani Hakanpaa. No-Trade Clauses: David Backes, Brenden Morrow, Jay Bouwmeester, Alex Pietrangelo, Barret Jackman, Jordan Leopold (modified). The Plan: The Blues could probably contend for the Cup with the roster as is, but if St. Louis is indeed that close, why not upgrade? Are they satisfied with their goaltending? Could they add another forward? Surely, if youre in the championship discussion, those are additions that have to be considered. Last seasons leading scorer, RW Chris Stewart, has been mentioned in trade talks and it makes some sense, considering his reduced role this season, its not easy to make big changes to a team that has the leagues best points percentage and goal differential. SAN JOSE SHARKS UFA in 2014: Mike Brown, Bracken Kearns, John McCarthy, Dan Boyle, Scott Hannan. RFA in 2014: James Sheppard, Tommy Wingels, Jason Demers, Alex Stalock. Top Prospects: Mirco Mueller, D, Everett (WHL)Chris Tierney, C, London (OHL)Matt Tennyson, D, Worcester (AHL)Freddie Hamilton, RW, Worcester (AHL)Daniil Tarasov, RW, Worcester (AHL) Others of Interest: Tyler Kennedy, Adam Burish, Matt Nieto, Justin Braun, Matt Irwin, Dylan DeMelo, Konrad Abeltshauser. No-Trade Clauses: Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Brent Burns (modified), Martin Havlat, Dan Boyle (modified), Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Brad Stuart (limited). The Plan: A contending team that hasnt been quite the same once injuries hit, so their forward group could use some help, whether thats coming from Martin Havlat, a returning Raffi Torres or a new acquisition. A skilled winger, to effectively make up for the loss of Tomas Hertl, would be ideal. The Sharks seemingly could always use help on the blueline, where longtime standout Dan Boyle has declined and there arent any real stars. Marc-Edouard Vlasic is as reliable as they come and Jason Demers, Matt Irwin and Justin Braun have improved, but an upgrade wouldnt hurt the cause. VANCOUVER CANUCKS UFA in 2014: Mike Santorelli, Raphael Diaz, Andrew Alberts. RFA in 2014: Zack Kassian, Jordan Schroeder, Zac Dalpe, Chris Tanev, Yannick Weber. Top Prospects: Bo Horvat, C, London (OHL)Brendan Gaunce, C, Erie (OHL)Hunter Shinkaruk, C, Medicine Hat (WHL)Nicklas Jensen, RW, Utica (AHL)Frank Corrado, D, Utica (AHL) Others of Interest: David Booth, Jannik Hansen, Cole Cassels. No-Trade Clauses: Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Ryan Kesler, Alex Burrows, Chris Higgins (limited), Alexander Edler, Kevin Bieksa, Jason Garrison, Dan Hamhuis, Roberto Luongo. The Plan: Careening over a cliff before the break, the Canucks went from solidly in the playoffs to the outside looking in and have several injuries to deal with. If number one C Henrik Sedin isnt healthy soon -- and he was unable to play in the Olympics -- the nthe Canucks might as well start selling because they could use offensive upgrades even with a healthy roster. Minus Sedin, that would be a pointless exercise. Should the Canucks become sellers, perhaps their most attractive asset to trade would be a legitimate top four defenceman, though the quartet of Kevin Bieksa, Alexander Edler, Jason Garrison and Dan Hamhuis all have no-trade contracts. WINNIPEG JETS UFA in 2014: Olli Jokinen, Devin Setoguchi, Chris Thorburn, Mark Stuart, Adam Pardy, Al Montoya. RFA in 2014: Michael Frolik, Matt Halischuk, James Wright, Keaton Ellerby. Top Prospects: Josh Morrissey, D, Prince Albert (WHL)Nicolas Petan, C, Portland (WHL)Adam Lowry, LW, St. Johns (AHL)Scott Kosmachuk, RW, Guelph (OHL)Eric Comrie, G, Tri-City (WHL) Others of Interest: Evander Kane, Ondrej Pavelec, Eric ODell, Brenden Kichton, Connor Hellebuyck. No-Trade Clauses: Blake Wheeler (modified), Bryan Little (limited), Olli Jokinen (modified), Andrew Ladd (modified), Tobias Enstrom, Dustin Byfuglien (modified), Zach Bogosian. The Plan: On the edge of the playoff race, the Jets might be a legitimate playoff team with improved goaltending, but if they remain committed to Ondrej Pavelec as their starter for the rest of the year, they ought to move out some of their non-essential veterans, including Olli Jokinen and Devin Setoguchi. If the Jets are of the mind to go for a blockbuster, and that doesnt seem likely given better results under new coach Paul Maurice, there are often rumours about the availability of LW Evander Kane or RW/D Dustin Byfuglien, both of whom would have many suitors, if made available. * - Contract information comes from the outstanding www.capgeek.com. Kansas City, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Championship contender Kevin Harvick won his eighth pole of the season in the Sprint Cup

Kansas City, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Championship contender Kevin Harvick won his eighth pole of the season in the Sprint Cup Series, while defending series titleholder Jimmie Johnson struggled in Fridays qualifying for the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. Harvick, in his first season as driver of the No. 4 Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing, grabbed the pole for Sundays 400-mile race at Kansas after posting a lap at 197.621 mph in the third and final round of knockout qualifying. He set a new track qualifying record at this 1.5-mile racetrack when he turned a lap at 197.773 mph during the second round. It was the 20th time this season that a new track qualifying record has been set in NASCARs premier series. Harvick has surpassed a previous track record six times in 2014 -- Texas, Michigan, Indianapolis, Bristol and both Kansas races. One year ago when he drove for Richard Childress Racing, Harvick won the Chase race at Kansas after starting on the pole and leading the most laps with 138. When the series most recently competed here in May, the first night race at this track, he started on the pole and led the most laps with 119 but finished second to Jeff Gordon. For whatever reason, this fits everything that I have going on with my driving style, Harvick said. But in the end, its all about having fast cars. Last year, we had a fast car, and this year, we have had a fast car as well. So just have to thank everybody on my Budweiser (sponsor) team for staying focused, continuing to build better race cars and controlling all the things that we can control. Our cars are fast, we are qualifying well, our pit stops are good, cars are reliable and everything is good. We just need a little bit of good luck to go with it. Its just like I keep telling these guys - that stuff will all come full circle and hopefully it does it at the right time this year. Harvick has two wins in Sprint Cup this season but has not been to victory lane in the series since April 12 at Darlington (21 races ago). I just feel like with a little bit of good luck we can beat every car here, every week, at any style racetrack, he said. Everything is there. Its just a matter of having everything come together on the luck side. Well just keep plugging away. While Harvick claimed his 14th career pole in Cup, Johnson qualified 32nd, which matched his worst starting position in a race this season. Making his second lap in the first qualifying round, Johnsons car spun out in turn 2. He did not make contact with anything. Brian Vickers, who is not in the Chase, will start on the front row for the first time this season after qualifying second at 196.307 mph. Wow, that was a fun lap, Vickers said. Aric Almirola, who was eliminated from the Chase last weekend at Dover, qualified third, matching his best starting spot of the season. Joey Logano grabbed the fourth position, followed by Jeff Gordon, who leads all drivers with three victories at Kansas. Im happy with where we ended up, Gordon said. A top-five, you have to be happy with that starting position. Qualifying sixth through 12th were: Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards. Logano, Gordon, Keselowski, Busch, Earnhardt, Kahne and Edwards remain in the Chase. Kansas is the first of three races in round 2 of the playoffs, known as the Contender Round. The other Chase drivers and their starting positions are: Ryan Newman (17th), Denny Hamlin (25th) and Matt Kenseth (27th). All 43 drivers who attempted qualifying made the starting field for Sundays race. <a href="https://www.cheapflames.com/">Custom Calgary Flames Jerseys</a>.
