MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins have released Canadian left-hander Andrew Albers, allowing him to sign with a South Korean team. Nick Foligno Blue Jackets Jersey . The Twins announced Thursday the 28-year-old Albers cleared waivers. He will join the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization. Albers, from North Battleford, Sask., went 2-5 with a 4.05 ERA in 10 starts for the Twins last season, throwing 8 1-3 scoreless innings in his major league debut Aug. 6 at Kansas City to set a team record. But with Kevin Correia, Phil Hughes, Ricky Nolasco and Mike Pelfrey set as starters, theres only one spot open. Albers received the organizations minor league pitcher of the year award after going 11-5 with a 2.86 ERA for Triple-A Rochester. He had 32 walks and 116 strikeouts in 132 1-3 innings. http://www.bluejacketshockeyshop.us/Sergei-Bobrovsky-Jersey/ . "It feels great (to re-sign with Rochester)," Vitarelli said. "Ive had two great years so far and weve been very successful, so its great to be part of the team again. James Neal and Brandon Sutter each had a goal and an assist, and the Penguins won for the first time in four games, 4-1 over the Nashville Predators on Friday night.VAIL, Colo. -- Lindsey Vonn is energized by her progress in recovering from a knee injury and might be in the starting gate next week in Canada. Vonn spoke with The Associated Press on Friday after three early super-G training runs. This was her first big test since she crashed during training at Copper Mountain last week and partially tore a reconstructed ligament in her right knee. "Definitely, Im encouraged," she said. "Its looking a lot better than everyone expected. Things are going well." Wearing a brightly colored jacket over her speed suit, the reigning Olympic downhill champion took an easy opening run through the course on a crisp morning. On her second pass, Vonn got a little more aggressive, picking up more speed as she glided down the hill. For her third and final run, she opened it up even more to see how her knee responded. "So far, so good," she said after her workout. So much so she remains hopeful she might race in Alberta next week. Asked about her readiness for Lake Louise, Vonn said: "Im not sure yet. As it looks right now, yeah." She concedes theres plenty more work to do to get into shape. "Im taking it day by day. Im not pushing it that hard yet," Vonn said. "Today, I was just kind of feeling it out. But tthe last run was better. http://www.bluejacketshockeyshop.us/Ryan-Johansen-Jersey/. It was more like normal. Im skiing in my clothes and seeing how things go so far. Im not taking unnecessary risks yet." Some say Vonn shouldnt push so soon, especially with the Sochi Games not until February. Why not come back in January to give her surgically repaired knee more time to heal? "Because I want to start in Lake Louise," Vonn said of a course she dominates so much its known as "Lake Lindsey." She laughed as she unbuckled her ski boots and stuffed them into her car. "Im just going to progress every day until Lake Louise," Vonn said. Vonn spent Thanksgiving Day squeezing in a little free skiing, posting on her Facebook page: "First day back on snow since my crash and it was awesome!" She also attached a picture of herself -- grinning -- on an empty slope in Vail. This, however, was a bigger step. The 29-year-old Vonn is not planning to attend the season-opening World Cup downhill on the new Beaver Creek course on Friday because "its too hard on me." Vonn had her sights set on returning for this race after tearing ligaments in her right knee during a high-speed accident at the world championships in February. She was on target, too, before her Copper Mountain crash. NEW YORK -- On the verge of winning the Stanley Cup, Drew Doughty remembers what it was like facing the same 3-0 hole the Rangers have now when the Kings faced the Sharks in the first round. cheap stitched jerseys . What he recalled does not reflect kindly on the likes of Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Dan Boyle. "Once we won that first game of the San Jose series, we kind of had a feeling we were going to come back and win that series," Doughty said Wednesday several hours before Game 4 of the final. "And you could see it in their eyes and their team and their captains and leaders that they were worried about us coming back. So we dont want to give these guys any life." As much as Doughty was complimenting his team for putting fear into the Sharks, it certainly can be construed as a shot at a core group that will more than likely see some changes after yet another playoff disappointment. On Tuesday, coach Darryl Sutter pointed all the way back to Game 1 for the seeds of the Kings comeback against the Sharks. "We could see were not a team somebody says, go away, and we go away," Sutter said. "Were a team thats going to respond." Even when the Kings fell behind three games to none, Sutter thought it would all come together. "I saw that in period one of Game 3," he said. "We knew we were winning the series; it just took a little bit longer." The Rangers gave up a goal with 0.7 seconds left in the first period of Game 3 in the final and seemed to do little in the way of foreshadowing a similar comeback. cheap nfl jerseys made in china . Talbot made the most of his opportunity, getting his 11th career win in 18 NHL games -- all this season. The Pittsburgh Penguins star can handle things by himself when he needs to. Malkin scored in his return from a lower-body injury, Sidney Crosby added his 16th goal, and the Penguins beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Monday night. http://www.cheapnfljerseysoutlet.cc/ .com) - A pair of struggling Western Conference teams will fight for a much-needed win on Saturday when the Los Angeles Kings host the Winnipeg Jets at Staples Center.LAS VEGAS -- Chris Weidman accepted his UFC middleweight title belt with a grimace and a furtive look over his shoulder. Anderson Silva writhed and screamed on the canvas behind him, his left leg grotesquely broken by a kick to Weidmans knee. The champ couldnt celebrate after the UFCs year-end show ended with a stark reminder of the brutality at the core of this flashy, fast-growing sport. Weidman defended his title when Silva broke his shin on a kick to Weidmans knee in the second round Saturday night, ending UFC 168 with a horrific injury. While Weidman (11-0) awkwardly acknowledged his victory, the MGM Grand Garden crowd watched with reverence and horror as medical personnel tended to Silva (33-6), whose shin bent to a 90-degree angle after Weidman blocked his kick 1:16 into the round. "Theres no real excitement in a fight finishing like that, because you never want to see anyone get hurt like that," Weidman said after his second straight win over the long-reigning champion. Weidman, who earned his belt with an upset victory in July, also dominated the first round of the rematch, pinning Silva to the mat and punishing him with blows. In the second, Weidman used his knee to stop Silvas kick with perfect mixed martial arts technique, never anticipating the result. "I did work on checking kicks," Weidman said. "I figured if I (caught) him on my knee, it could really hurt him. Crazy how this happened." Ronda Rousey also retained her bantamweight title on arguably the UFCs most anticipated show of the year, submitting Miesha Tate with a third-round arm bar. Rousey then walked away from her bitter rivals offer of a post-fight handshake, earning ferocious boos from the Vegas fight crowd. But Rouseys questionable sportsmanship was dwarfed by the unquestionably awful finish to the main event. Although the injury happened too quickly to be seen by most naked eyes in Las Vegas, the sound of Silvas cracking shin could be heard at cageside. Thousands of fans cringed and moaned when the replay was shown on the arenas big screens. "I knew coming into the fight that what he could hurt me most with was the leg kicks," Weidman said. "We trained checking the kick a lot. The idea is to pull your leg and for their shin to land at the knee. Thats exactly what I did, and I felt his leg go right away." Referee Herb Dean waved off the fight when Silva fell back, clutching his leg with both hands. Silva left the octagon strapped to a stretcher with a brace on his leg, screaming in pain. With his belt back around his waist, Weidman paid tribute to the injured ex-champion. cheap nfl jerseys authentic. "Hes still known as the greatest fighter of all time," Weidman said. Silvas nearly seven-year reign atop the middleweight division ended nearly six months ago when Weidman stopped the preening, posturing champion with a left hook at UFC 162. With two straight wins, the former Hofstra wrestler has firmly ended Silvas reign. The injury in the rematch conceivably could end the 38-year-old Brazilians MMA career. The show was heavy on violent finishes. Heavyweight Travis Browne knocked out veteran Josh Barnett in the first round with a series of elbows to the head, earning the third straight early stoppage on the pay-per-view portion of the card. Before the unsettling main event, Rousey (8-0) got the biggest test of her ascendant career. Rousey had never seen the second round of an MMA fight, but Tate tested the champion with striking and tenacity. Although Rousey repeatedly tossed Tate (13-5) to the canvas and pounded on her, Rousey couldnt finish until getting her weary opponent into her patented arm bar -- the submission move she has used to end each of her eight professional fights. "I respect Miesha very much as a competitor," said Rousey, who feels Tate insulted her family. "But I cant respect a fighter who did what she did, and I cannot shake her hand because of it." Tate landed plenty of strikes to Rouseys head, particularly during a thrilling first round in which she tested Rouseys chin. Rousey gradually wore down Tate and finally finished her, violently bending her elbow and forcing Tate to tap out. "Going more than one round was a good experience," Rousey said. "I needed that experience in the octagon, and as my mom said, better to get it in a win than in a loss." But when Tate attempted to shake her hand, Rousey slowly rose and walked away. The crowd booed vociferously when the replay of the snub was shown in slow motion, but Rousey didnt apologize. Nearly two years ago, Rousey defeated Tate by first-round arm bar to claim Tates Strikeforce title, cementing her meteoric rise from the U.S. Olympic judo team to the apex of MMA. Rousey and Tate have made no secret of their distaste since that bout, further stoked by their combative appearance as coaches on the most recent season of "The Ultimate Fighter," the UFCs competition reality show. "In judo, I didnt know what a cheer was," Rousey said. "Cheers are whats new." COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The talk in the San Jose locker room was about the save at the end of regulation that got them one point. http://www.teamcolombiasoccer.com/James-Rodriguez-Copa-America-Jersey/ . Backup goalie Alex Stalock followed that by improving to 3-0 in shootouts in his career and not allowing a goal in 10 attempts to help get the other point. On the offensive side, Patrick Marleau scored twice and Joe Pavelski had the lone shootout goal in the Sharks 4-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night. "Huge save with 3 or 4 seconds left," San Jose coach Todd McLellan said. "I thought he was very solid." Stalock finished with 35 saves -- including 15 in the second period -- and the one getting all the raves was a spectacular post-to-post stop on Jack Johnson late and Columbus on the power play. "It was a puck you have to play and get over to," Stalock said. "My job was to recover and get over there." After tying his career high of 66 points with an assist on Marleaus second goal, Pavelski deked Sergei Bobrovsky and roofed a backhander in the shootout to give San Jose its fourth straight win. Marleau scored his 27th and 28th goals and Matt Nieto also scored for the Sharks, who are 8-1-1 in their last 10 to move into a tie with Anaheim for the Pacific Division lead. Logan Couture had two assists. "It feels good to be right up there," Marleau said. "Its not going to be easy the rest of the season." Ryan Johansen, R. J. Umberger and James Wisniewski scored for the Blue Jackets, who wanted more but will gladly take the point in the congested race for an Eastern Conference playoff spot. Brandon Dubinsky added two assists for Columbus, 17-7-2 since Jan. 1. "We got a point tonight, would have loved to have gotten two," Columbus coach Todd Richards said. "But you look at the way the team played. I thought we played a hard game against a very good hockey team, a fast hockey team." After squandering a 2-1 lead early in the third period, the Blue Jackets tied it on Wisniewskis slap shot into the top left corner from the right circle with 4:58 remaining. "That team plays hard," McLellan said. "They are as competitive as there is in the league. Theyre physical. They have good body position when they enter the zone, throw a lot of pucks at the net." San Jose had scored twice just under 6 minutes into the period to take the lead on a few uncharacteristic plays by Bobrovsky. Only 15 seconds in, Bobrovksy gave up a long rebound and the puck sat in the slot before Nieto easily fired it home. Later on a San Jose power play, Columbus couldnt convert on a two-on-one leading to a 4-on-2 for the San Jose. Pavelski fed Marleau, with Bobrovsky a bit too deep in his net. The man-advantage goal was the first for the Sharks in its last seven games. "Hopefully, thats the one that does it," Marleau said about improving the teams power-play production. "It was on the rush but well take it." Johansen opened the scoring at 5:28 of the first period with his 26th. Johansen snapped home a loose puck from between the circles through traffic. Marleau tied it 5 minutes later on a sequence jump-started by poor puck management by defenceman David Savard. Logan Couture got the puck and centred it from the right boards to an open Marleau at the crease for the one timer. In the second period, the Blue Jackets quickly got into penalty trouble, giving the Sharks a two-man advantage for 36 seconds. But it was the Blue Jackets who capitalized. After the first penalty expired, Umberger stepped out of the box, took a long pass in stride from Dubinsky and beat Stalock between the pads for his 18th. "I think we stuck with it," McLellan said. "The shorthanded goal with the guy coming out of the box took a little bit of zip out of us. But between periods we talked about getting to the blue paint, getting an opportunity to score on a second chance." Notes: Columbus Artem Anisimov, who has six goals in his last seven games, didnt play due to birth of his first child Thursday. ... San Jose is 19-6-3 against Eastern Conference teams. ... Part of the process for the San Francisco 49ers All-Pro linebacker to rejoin the team following a five-week stint in rehab included a verbal commitment to the NFL that he would stay out of trouble and keep clean. "I think any time we could all look into our lives and find something we need to work on," Smith said Tuesday, seemingly relaxed. "Ive taken my time and Ive done that." A clean-cut Smith -- hair trimmed from his previous long, curly cut -- returned to the 49ers locker room after his long absence and five missed games to cheers from teammates who chanted his first name. Everybody knows what he means to this franchise and defence -- and the 49ers are hopeful he is as healthy as he looks and ready to return to the field as soon as Sundays home game with Carolina. "Im getting there. Every days just a step closer to getting to where I want to be," Smith said at his locker after practice. "Ive gotten a lot of support, from my family, friends, organization, teammates and everything. And it really says a lot that people care about me outside the field and they care about me as a person." Smith had been on an indefinite paid leave of absence before being activated to the 53-man roster Thursday, two days after he turned himself in to Santa Clara County authorities on weapons charges. He met last Wednesday with team officials. The fearsome pass-rusher is in shape despite a couple of extra pounds gained during his stint at an in-patient treatment centre for substance abuse. He was at a facility outside California, he said, while declining to offer further details. He said he returned to the Bay Area on Oct. 28 after entering rehab in late September -- and he was away for his 24th birthday Sept. 25. Defensive teammate and fellow linebacker Patrick Willis is among those who sent periodic text messages to Smith during his time away. "Aldon has been a guy since he came in who has been very productive for our defence, has been a playmaker for our defence," Willis said. "To get him back is a good thing, then, too, with his absence we were able to develop some depth with some of the other guys. Its really going to be a strong point for us. When you have a guy such as Aldon with his talent, the biggest thing we can do for him is just lett him know were here for him, let him know that were his teammates, but the main thing is just let him grow on his own. http://www.teamcolombiasoccer.com/Jeison-Murillo-Copa-America-Jersey/. " Smith played in a 27-7 home loss to the Colts on Sept. 22 and had five tackles just two days after he was arrested and jailed on suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession. He apologized for his behaviour after the game then later announced he would leave for treatment. San Francisco (6-2) has won five straight games in impressive fashion without him. Also in September, Smith and former teammate Delanie Walker were named in a lawsuit filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court by a Northern California man who said he was shot at a party at Smiths house on June 29, 2012. Smith, selected seventh overall in the 2011 draft out of Missouri, had previously been arrested on suspicion of DUI in January 2012 in Miami shortly after the 49ers lost in the NFC championship game. Now, Smith is moving forward. Hes thrilled to be reunited with not only his team but also his 10-month-old son, Aulis. "He looks good, man," running back Frank Gore said. "Im a big fan of Aldon, a young guy who has the potential to be one of the best at the position. Im happy hes back with the family. I know he can help our team, so thats great." While Smith is scheduled for court appearances each of the next two Tuesdays, he expects to be in practice. Smith was charged Oct. 9 with three felony counts of illegal possession of an assault weapon, stemming from that party at his home in June 2012. "Of course, I didnt want to be away from the sport I love. But it was good for me to get away and get my mind together and work, like I say, just to get to the positive spot I need to be at," he said. "I caught some of the games, some that were broadcast over there. So I was able to keep up with the guys and chime in here and there and wish them good luck." Smith had a franchise-record 19 1/2 sacks last season for the NFC champions. He has 4 1/2 sacks and 18 tackles over three games in 2013. "Im just taking it one day at a time, getting back here, being around the guys and just getting my life back at home," Smith said. Also Tuesday, leading 2012 wideout Michael Crabtree was cleared to resume practicing following May surgery to repair a torn right Achilles tendon. The 49ers now have three weeks to activate him. MEMPHIS, Tenn. Mike Singletary Jersey . -- Kevin Durant insisted the Thunder facing elimination was all the motivation he needed. Thanks to the NBAs best scorer, the Thunder remain alive and can finish off the Memphis Grizzlies back in Oklahoma City. Durant scored 36 points to break out of a slump, and the Thunder routed the Grizzlies 104-84 on Thursday night to force a deciding seventh game in the first-round Western Conference series. His performance came on a day where the hometown newspaper questioned his struggles with a headline calling him "Mr. Unreliable." "We needed to win this game," Durant said. "Thats more motivation than anything, so our team responded. Weve got to do an even better job in Game 7." Russell Westbrook added 25 points for the Thunder, who havent been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs since 2010. They took control early with Durant scoring 14 points in the first quarter, led by 15 at halftime and never let Memphis get that close again in the second half in the first game in the series that didnt go to overtime since the opener. "You dont get to his level as an NBA player and a great player as he is to have other people motivate you," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "Hes self-motivated. Hes a tremendous kid and does everything for his team, for our organization. Were proud of him because he gives everything he has. That was the only focus for tonights game." Durant also had 10 rebounds and made 14 of 15 free throws. Reggie Jackson had 16 points off the bench for the Thunder, who will host Game 7 on Saturday night. Grizzlies guard Tony Allen said the Thunder simply wanted the game more and called the loss embarrassing in front of a sellout crowd. "Now, weve shot ourselves in the foot, and we have to go to a hostile environment now and pretty much show where our heart is at," Allen said. Marc Gasol had 17 points and Zach Randolph 16 for Memphis. Guard Mike Conley strained his right hamstring, briefly returned and left for good with 8:48 left. Conley went down in the third quarter near midcourt dribbling when Kendrick Perkins reached in for a steal. The Memphis guard returned briefly, but Conley was limping noticeably. With the Thunder in control, Conley went to the locker room again and didnt return. Nick Calathes currently is suspended for violating the NBAs anti-drug policy, leaving Memphis with only Beno Udrih at point guard. Memphis coach Dave Joerger said Udrih will play a lot of minutes if Conley cant. Conley said he will be re-evaluated Friday and receive as much treatment as possible before tipoff Saturday. "I plan on playing," Conley said. Durant had to answer questions after the shootaround Thursday about that headline in The Oklahoman newspaper. Durant said he had no problem with the headline and that he just needed to hit shots and be more aggressive. Smiling just before tipoff, Durant did just that. The man who led the NBA scoring 32 points a game during the regular season opened by hitting five of his first seven and finished 11 of 23 from the floor. He continued to struggle outside the arc where he missed all six of his attempts. The Grizzlies had a chance to advance to their third semifinal in four years on their own floor. Yet they couldnt shoot well or match the Thunders intensity with a sloppy performance in front of a sellout crowd that tried to energize the Grizzlies. Oklahoma City outrebounded Memphis 47-36 and easily outshot them 49.3 per cent (37 of 75) to 37.3 per cent (31 of 83). "We knew sooner or later our shots would fall," Brooks said. Brooks also benched Thabo Sefolosha and started Caron Butler. "This is why you play the game to prove doubters wrong, and adversity builds character," Butler said. "This team has a strong character and a will." Memphis last led 6-4. A team that thrives off defence, the Grizzlies couldnt knock down shots even when they managed to get consecutive stops. The Grizzlies got to 42-37 with 3:08 left on a steal and fast-break layup by Conley. The Thunder finished the half with a 14-4 run for a 56-41 lead. The Grizzlies missed their first six shots to open the third quarter, finishing any hopes of a comeback. James Johnson scored 15 points off the bench for Memphis, and Allen added 13. OAKLAND, Calif. http://www.thebroncosstoreonline.com/youth-nike-denver-broncos-12-paxton-lynch-limited-orange-team-color-nfl-jersey.html . - Marreese Speights has provided a big lift for Golden State as a scorer off the bench. So it was only natural that as a starter, the 6-foot-10 centre wanted some recognition for his passing. He got it, but only after pointing it out to Warriors coach Steve Kerr at halftime.Speights scored 23 points and matched his season high of four assists, Stephen Curry added 13 points and nine assists, and the Warriors beat the Philadelphia 76ers 126-86 on Tuesday night.Oh yeah, I made sure he shouted me out for that, said Speights, who went 9 of 13 from the floor. Hes always shouting me out for buckets, but I had a couple of assists the last couple games. It means a lot. Im learning from the guys in front of me on how they pass the ball.It helped that it came against the 76ers, the team that drafted Speights with the 16th overall pick in 2008. Speights spent three unhappy seasons in Philadelphia, then bounced back and forth between Memphis and Cleveland before signing with Golden State before the 2013-14 season.Speights made his third start this season because the Warriors top two centres — Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli — are sidelined with injuries.I didnt play him a couple games and he just stayed ready, Kerr said. Then he got himself in the rotation and hes been in ever since. Mos had a fantastic season scoring and doing his thing.Draymond Green had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Leandro Barbosa scored 17 off the bench for the Warriors, who won their 10th straight home game to improve to an NBA-best 25-5.Golden State led by as many as 47 in a game that was even more lopsided than the final score. Kerr pulled his starters early in the fourth quarter, only to see his reserves add to the lead.Henry Sims had 19 points and seven rebounds for Philadelphia. The 76ers (4-26) have dropped three straight following back-to-back road wins over Miami and Orlando.I think you have to stay grounded and be reminded that its all about the process, coach Brett Brown said. Its hard to say that when you just lost the way that we just did, I get that. But there are some things you walk away and you can learn from. The Sixers scored the first six points but were outscored 32-11 the remainder of the first quarter, when they committed 11 turnovers.Klay Thompson had 11 points for Golden State early, while Speights provided an immediate spark in the second quarter after a long rest on the bench. He blocked a shot by Jerami Grant, scored on three straight long jumpers and later added a dunk to help extend the Warriors lead to 61-34 at halftime.___TIP-INS76ers: Philadelphia had two long scoreless stretches in the first quarter that totalled 6 minutes, 13 seconds. ... Rookie Nerlens Noel will continue to get time at both forward and centre. Were trying to grow him in both spots, Brown said. ... Philadelphia has dropped four of the past five to Golden State. ... The Sixers have committed 17 turnovers or more in 13 consecutive games.Warriors: Golden States winning streak at Oracle Arena is its longest at home since 1994. ... The 25 total wins are the most by the Warriors before New Years Day since 1967-68, when they had 28. ... Kerr still has no timetable for when Bogut and Ezeli might return. Bogut missed his 10th game because of chonodromalacia/bone edema in his right knee. Ezeli missed his third straight with a left ankle sprain. They are doing better and they are on the court moving around but I dont really spend a lot of time asking them, Kerr said.UP NEXT76ers: At Phoenix on Friday.Warriors: Host Toronto on Friday. http://www.thebroncosstoreonline.com/youth-nike-denver-broncos-12-paxton-lynch-elite-orange-team-color-nfl-jersey.html . LONDON -- Tottenhams top-four status in the English Premier League was weakened by a draw at Sunderland as Chelsea moved closer to the Champions League places by clinching a victory over Wigan in stoppage time on Saturday. http://www.teamcolombiasoccer.com/ . Juan Matas late goal gave Chelsea a 2-1 victory that moved the team two points behind fourth-place Arsenal and three adrift of Tottenham. Harry Redknapps Tottenham endured a frustrating afternoon as Sunderland held on for a 0-0 draw. Arsenal is in action on Sunday, hosting a Manchester City side desperate for a victory to keep the pressure on leader Manchester United, which is five points ahead. Liverpools league campaign is a face-saving mission following the eighth-place teams worst run in 58 years and Luis Suarez ended a run of three successive losses by salvaging a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. There were no changes within the relegation zone with Wigan losing at Chelsea and Blackburn going down 3-0 at West Bromwich Albion. Bottom-place Wolverhampton Wanderers was at Stoke in the late game. Stamford Bridge witnessed the latest episode in Chelseas revival, with eight wins in 10 matches now since Roberto Di Matteo replaced Andre Villas-Boas as manager last month. Despite several chances to the team that beat Benfica to reach the Champions League semifinals on Wednesday, Chelsea laboured in the first half. And the hosts took the lead in contentious circumstances in the 62nd minute. Branislav Ivanovic appeared to be in an offside position when he knocked the ball into the net after meeting Raul Meireles throughball, enraging the Wigan team. Mohamed Diame did level for Wigan in the 82nd with a fierce left-footed strike from distance, but the visitors couldnt hold on for a point that would have lifted them out of the relegation zone. In the third minute of stoppage time, after Fernando Torres strike from a tight angle came off the post, Mata pounced to lash the ball into the net from what Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said was also an offside position. "We fought until the last minute for the three points, having a lot of chances to score," Mata said. "We got a little lucky in the last minute and the points are important for us. Chelsea never give up." In the northeast, Tottenham manager Redknapp was unhappy that his side failed to overcome Sunderland, with Gareth Bale, Emmanuel Adebayor and Rafael Van der Vaart missing chances. "Youve seen teams get in positions where the pressure gets to them but I think were quite a laid-back bunch and will just get on with it," Redknapp said. "I dont think the players get as uptight as I do or the punters do." Sunderland is ninth, one place and a point behind Liverpool, which has not won at Anfield in the league in nearly a month. Chris Herd netted Villas opener after 10 minutes, taking advantage of debutant goalkeeper Doni failing to deal with a cross, with Pepe Reina suspended. But Suarez headed home from close range in the 82nd after Daniel Agger headed against the underside of the crossbar from Steven Gerrards cross. At Bolton, 10th-place Fulham denied the relegation-threatened hosts a fourth straight win, with Clint Dempsey scoring twice in a 3-0 win to take his league tally to 15 goals this season. The American striker opened the scoring with a 30-yard (meter) free kick in the 25th minute and headed a second on the stroke of halftime. Mahamadou Diarra added a third from close range late in the second half. West Brom ended a run of four games without a win by beating Blackburn by the same score line. After Martin Olsson turned the ball into his own net from Gareth McAuleys header across goal, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Liam Ridgewell scored for West Brom. Blackburn substitute Anthony Modeste was sent off only 10 minutes after going on in the 89th. Norwich moved 12 points clear from Blackburn in the drop zone with a 2-2 draw against Everton. Nikica Jelavic put Everton ahead with a backheel but Jonny Howson levelled just before halftime with his first goal for Norwich. While Jelavic added his fourth in four games, Grant Holt swept home his 13th goal of the promoted clubs campaign in the 76th. http://www.teamcolombiasoccer.com/Pedro-Franco-Copa-America-Jersey/ . “That was one of the goals we wanted to create is when teams come into this building theres no more of this two points, kiss your relatives and go home,” said Randy Carlyle following a fifth straight victory at the Air Canada Centre on Tuesday night. http://www.teamcolombiasoccer.com/Frank-Fabra-Copa-America-Jersey/ . Luongo will not get the start when the Canucks host the Ottawa Senators in the Heritage Classic at BC Place Stadium on Sunday. "I dont want to start going through this whole thing again," said Luongo, who has yet to start for the Canucks since returning from the Olympics. http://www.teamcolombiasoccer.com/Camilo-Vargas-Copa-America-Jersey/ .City started the final round of group play in last place in Group E but finished second by beating Roma 2-0 away, with second-half goals by Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta lifting the English champions above their Italian opponents and CSKA Moscow. CSKA lost 3-0 at Bayern Munich.WASHINGTON D.C. – The hole was three goals deep after just eight minutes and 44 seconds. And it would ultimately prove too daunting for the Maple Leafs to overcome in the U.S. capital. Doomed by the drudge of a sleepy start they fell in regulation Sunday afternoon for just the fifth time in the past 23 games (15-5-4), their comeback attempts sullied a 4-2 loss to the feisty Washington Capitals. Coming off a successful swing through the California triangle – they won twice – Toronto mustered just two shots in a stunted opening 20 minutes back east, down 3-0 before the frame was even halfway over. Washington scored twice on its first two power-play attempts, adding another from Jason Chimera at even-strength. “It looked like we were still in for our afternoon nap,” mused head coach Randy Carlyle of the period with some frustration afterward. “We werent good enough in the first 10 minutes,” added James Reimer, appearing in his third straight game. “You cant spot a team three goals. We just werent sharp, myself included, and it cost us. I thought we dominated the second and the third was anyones game, we just couldnt quite climb out of the three-goal hole.” The Leafs did dominate the middle period with the same emphasis as the Capitals did the first. They outshot the home-side 10-1 in the opening 11 minutes and 20-6 overall. But with three power-play opportunities and a slew of chances to score they could only get one by Jaroslav Halak, the eighth this season from Dion Phaneuf. David Clarkson had maybe the best opportunity to even the proceedings at three. Stuck with just one goal in the past 21 games and only four this season, the 29-year-old thought hed beaten Halak only to see the puck trickle off the goaltender and out. “Thats been the story this year,” Clarkson said. “I think even if I didnt celebrate it was still laying there for me to poke in.” Never coming closer he and the Leafs fell for the second time on a season-long road trip that wraps up Tuesday in Detroit against the hurting Red Wings. The momentum of emphatic wins in Anaheim and L.A. failed to carry over on the road back east. Knowing that first place in the Atlantic division is lost – Boston is up 15 points – Toronto has set its sights now on securing second spot and home-ice advantage in the first round. With 13 games to go they have 80 points, one up on Tampa and Montreal, who each carry games in hand. “If we wouldve won this one we wouldve been in a great spot,” said Carl Gunnarsson of the road trip at large. “Weve got a big one coming up here in Detroit to make it a good one.” Five Points 1. First Periods A nemesis on Sunday afternoon and all season for that matter, first periods have been a regular sore spot for the Leafs. Washington scored three unanswered in the opening frame on this day. Troy Bodie added a late goal to cut the deficit to two, just the second of two shots in the period for Toronto. Utterly displeased with his teams performance, Carlyle gathered the entire team for a chat during the second TV timeout. “It was more or less just get going,” Bodie said of Carlyles message. “We didnt have our feet going. We werent ready to play.” The Leafs boast a minus-15 goal differential in first periods this season, by far the worst of the three stanzas. Scoring their second of the night while out-shooting the Capitals 20-6, they improved to plus-13 in second periods. “I think finally we got our legs under us,” said Clarkson. “We started going and we kind of put them back on their heels a little bit.” 2. PK Stumbles The rising Leafs penalty kill entered the day with an 88 per cent success rate in the previous 14 games, turning the corner from an awful first half. “We knew we couldnt give up on it,” Jay McClement told the Leaf Report before the game. “We just had to keep working and wed get better because virtually its the same group of us from last year. I dont know what the reason was [for our struggles], but now it seems like weve got the confidence back.” That is until they faced the second best power-play unit in the league at the Verizon Center. Shadowing Alex Ovechkin, who leads the league with 19 power-play goals, the Leafs gave up a pair on Washingtons first two opportunities with the man advantage, once from an open Troy Brouwer in the slot, a second from Joel Ward on the back-door. “We missed assignments on our coverage,” said Carlyle. “You cant let Troy Brouwer shoot the puck from 10 feet in front of your goaltender. Theres obviously a missed assignment and missed coverage in that situation. http://www.teamcolombiasoccer.com/Carlos-Valderrama-Copa-America-Jersey/. .” 3. Man Advantage Yields Little Boasting just two goals now in the past 11 games – 7 per cent in that span – the Toronto power-play meanwhile continued its dry spell. The Leafs grappled with three consecutive power-plays in the middle period, but failed to score even once. “We believe in our power-play,” said Joffrey Lupul prior to the game. “And theres going to be stretches when you dont get those goals, but as long as we keep doing things right with some of the scorers we have on the team eventually the power-play opportunities are going to turn into goals.” Punch-less on many recent nights, the Leafs did have their opportunities against the Capitals, mustering eight shots. Sneaking in from the right point Cody Franson had maybe the best opportunity to beat Halak, but was ultimately turned aside. The unit currently sits in a four-way tie for third overall at 20.7 per cent. 4. Goalies James Reimer made his third straight appearance Sunday, starting in place of the injured Jonathan Bernier. Fighting the puck early, Reimer yielded three goals on the first five shots, but settled as the night wore on. He made key stops in the final frame, including one on Jason Chimera breaking in partially alone.Citing the now 26-year-olds rebound trouble in that opening frame, Carlyle said he considered pulling Reimer in favour of Drew MacIntyre after the third Washington goal. “We did think about that,” said Carlyle. “But I didnt want to throw Drew into that type of situation without giving him a heads up …Weve got Reims here and weve got to show the confidence for him to fight through some of those situations. We know that Reims is going to start the next game in all probability.” Carlyle had little to offer as far as an update on Bernier, who remained with the team in Washington Sunday ahead of the trip to Detroit. Its clear the 25-year-old will miss his second straight game against the Red Wings Tuesday, the clarity of lower-body injury yet to be fully revealed. 5. Kadris Evolution Nazem Kadri said recently that “I want to become a complete player that this team can trust” and among coaches and teammates that desire for evolution has been seen on the ice. “I think hes maturing as a player,” said Carlyle of the 23-year-old, who established a new career-high for points in Los Angeles this past Thursday night. “I still think theres some room for Nazzie to grow. But I still think youve got to give the kid credit. Hes under a microscope. Hes under a lot of pressure to come in as a young player and play those minutes. We have all kinds of confidence [in him]. [But] maybe not as much confidence as he has if you know what I mean.” “Hes better in his defensive zone for sure,” added Lupul. “Just positioning and using his body and his stick down low. I think everyone probably saw the offensive talents [which] have always been there, but now – Ive been playing on his line for a while now – hes pretty reliable defensively. And as a winger he gets in a spot where youre able to find him, get him the puck.” For Lupul, thats the indicator for when Kadri is at his best. “I think thats one thing for me that when hes playing really well thats what I notice about being on his line is hes putting himself in a spot where hes basically demanding the puck and that he gets it. That shows his confidence and thats how you can kind of tell when hes on the top of his game.” Kadri finished with two shots in 20 minutes against the Capitals. Stats-Pack 35-40 – Toronto penalty kill over 14 games preceding Sunday in Washington. 54 – Consecutive games missed by Dave Bolland, who is still recovering from a left ankle injury, his return status as yet unknown. 15-5-3 – Leafs record in the past 23 games. 2-28 – Toronto power-play over the past 11 games. 29 – Points this season for Dion Phaneuf, eclipsing the mark he set in 48 games last season. Fighting the flu, Phaneuf had a goal and an assist in defeat against the Capitals. 42-57 – Goal differential for the Leafs in first periods this season, favouring the opposition. 8-15-4 – Leafs record this season when trailing after the first period. Special Teams Capsule PP: 0-3Season: 20.7% (T-3rd) PK: 2-4Season: 78.4% (28th) Quote of the Night “It looked like we were still in for our afternoon nap.” -Randy Carlyle, on his teams performance in the opening period Sunday. Up Next The Leafs conclude their five-game road trip with a division battle against the Red Wings on Tuesday. MINNEAPOLIS -- Diagnosed with cancer in his neck, Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan has taken leave from his job for treatment and recovery. Adidas Superstar Supercolor Pink . The timetable for his return is unclear, but the prognosis is optimistic. Though sobered by and concerned about the news, the Twins expressed confidence in the ability of their front offices long-time leader to beat the disease and get back to running the team. "I dont doubt hell get this knocked out," assistant general manager Rob Antony said. "Hes a tough bird, as he would say." The Twins released a statement on Monday from Ryan, who thanked his doctors, friends and colleagues for their work and support. "Its my intention to see you back at the ballpark as soon as possible," Ryan said. During his recent annual physical exam, the 60-year-old Ryan asked team physician Dr. Vijay Eyunni to examine a hard lump on his neck about an inch in diameter that had appeared a few weeks earlier. Further tests revealed squamous cell carcinoma. The squamous cells are in several parts of the body, but Eyunni said the source and cause of the cancer was undetermined. All that was known, he said, was that it was in his lymph node but had not spread to anywhere else. "The good news is we caught it early," Eyuinni said, adding: "As you know, both mentally and physically, hes very strong. So with treatment and radiation, its going to help him a lot. Hell recover better than someone who is not healthy." Ryan was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and expected to have surgery on Tuesday. Radiation treatment will likely follow. But once removed, Eyunni said, this type of cancer does not come back. "It should be completely done. It does not regenerate anymore," Eyunni said. Despite the positive outlook for a full recovery, this close-knit organization felt a collective anxiety and letdown upon learning of Ryans condition. "My family is praying for Terry Ryan and his family. Cancer is a terrible thing and we are hoping for a fast recovery," reliever Brian Duensing said on Twitter. "Cancer news hit close to home today. Sickened to hear about one of the men I respect most. My prayers are with you Terry," closer Glen Perkins tweeted. Manager Ron Gardenhire, in an email, said hes had a "rough few days" in regard to Ryans cancer. "You wont find a better boss or a better friend," Gardenhire said. Ryans primary concern, his colleagues said, was with his wife and adult children and how they would take the news. "But beyond that, he took it really well," Eyunni said. "He says, Doc, lets move on. I want to get this done." Ryan initially became general manager in 1994, stepping down 13 years later, citing burnout. After serving as a special assistant to general manager Bill Smith for four seasons, Smith was reassigned, and Ryan reassumed the job in 2011. In his statement, Ryan expressed confidence in Gardenhire, Antony and the rest of the baseball operations department to keep the Twins on the right track. "I met with Terry last week when he told all of us what was going on, and I started asking him questions about how he wanted me to handle this and that, and he just looked at me and basically said, Youve been around here long enough. Youve been in all these meetings. You know what goes on in spring training. Just go down and do your thing," Antony said. "He said, You know what youre doing. So that felt good." In addition to vice-president of player personnel Mike Radcliff, a member of the organization since 1987, special assistants Smith and Wayne Krivsky and have each previously been major league general managers, Krivsky with Cincinnati. For now, theres no plan on when or how much to consult with Ryan regarding general operations and key decisions. Antony told Ryan to call him when he feels good enough to participate. The Twins start spring training in Fort Myers, Fla., next week. "All I want to hear is the call that he says he had his checkup and the thing is completely gone and now he can start getting back to a normal routine and life, and whether that comes in March or April or whatever, it doesnt matter," Antony said. "Its the end result more than anything." He added: "There comes a time you need to put your family and your personal health and everything in front of your job and the game, and hes a smart enough guy to know that this is the time to do that right now." INDIANAPOLIS -- As one of the NBAs elite teams, the Indiana Pacers have a target on their backs. The Phoenix Suns came out firing in the first half and held the Pacers off in the second to hand Indiana just its second home loss of the season. "This year theyre not the underdogs anymore," Suns forward Channing Frye said. "Teams come out and give it their best shot. For them to expect us to come in and lay down, for any team to lay down, its not going to happen." Goran Dragic had 28 points and seven assists to lead Phoenix to the 102-94 win over the Pacers on Thursday night. Gerald Green and Marcus Morris scored 16 points apiece to help the Suns win their fourth straight game. Markieff Morris, who finished with 15 points, hit a 3-pointer with 2:58 remaining to give the Suns a 98-92 lead and Dragic dunked to give the Suns a 100-94 lead with 44 seconds left to put the game out of reach. The Suns (28-1 seemed to have the game put away by halftime. Dragic scored 21 of the Suns 66 points in the first half -- the most given up by the Pacers (35-10) in a half this season since the Suns scored 62 on Indiana a week ago in a 124-100 win. "We are at our best when we start the game well," Dragic said. "We played an up-tempo game, so I think they were a little bit tired." The Pacers rallied after trailing 66-49 at the break, but never retook the lead. Roy Hibbert had 26 points and David West added 18 for the Pacers, who have lost three of five games. Indiana went on an 8-2 run early in the second half with shots by David West, Paul George, Lance Stephenson and George Hill to get within 70-53. Later, George was fouled on a layup and converted the 3-point play to make it 71-61 with 7:01 left in the third. Miles Plumlee missed a dunk and Hibbert scored on a putback to get Indiana within eight. Frye answered with a basket and then HHibbert scored Indianas next six points to get the Pacers within 73-69. Nike Air Max 2016 Black. "We came out, got ourselves back in it in the second half with defence, but couldnt get up over the hump," Hibbert said. "They outplayed us." The Pacers got within a point when Hill hit two free throws to make it 91-90 with 4:20 remaining, but Green extended the lead with two free throws. Hill made a layup before Green hit a jumper to put the Suns ahead 95-92 and Markieff Morris 3-pointer to give the Suns a five-point lead. "In the end, that third quarter cost us a little bit," Dragic said. "They came really strong. They made some open shots and that made it a little bit of a different game." It was much different from the way Phoenix played in the first half. They took a lead right away in the first quarter. They went on a 9-0 run early in the game when Dragic tied the game on a layup and later hit a jumper to give the Suns a 6-8 lead. Then Green hit a 3-pointer and another basket to make it 13-6 with 6:24 left in the first quarter. The Suns went on a 15-2 run to close out the first quarter with a 36-19 lead. Stephenson, who left the game in the first quarter after getting hit in the right eye, scored 12 second-quarter points. West added 10, but the Pacers were never able to put together a run or cut into the deficit. Even when George hit a jumper falling out of bounds that went over the corner of the backboard and through the hoop, it didnt matter. Dragic hit a 3-pointer to take back the lead and to give the Suns a 62-45 lead. NOTES: In four halves against the Pacers this season, the Suns have scored 62 points or more in three of them. . Stephenson recorded his fourth triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. . Hibbert and George become the first Pacers teammates to earn All-Star honours in the same season since Jermaine ONeal and Ron Artest in 2004. BERLIN - Freiburg gained some hope in the battle against relegation from the Bundesliga by earning a 0-0 draw at Hertha Berlin on Friday. Ben Smith Jersey . Hertha threatened early when Sami Allagui narrowly missed the target in the first minute. But the home side didnt create any real chances until late in the uneventful game, when Adrian Ramos had two long-range shots barely tipped over by Freiburgs goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. On the other side, Herthas goalkeeper Thomas Kraft foiled three attempts by Admir Mehmedi. Hertha remained winless at home in three straight games. The point pulled Freiburg even with Hamburger SV and Stuttgart on 19 points, but it stayed next-to-last on goal difference. Promoted Hertha suffered a setback in efforts to reach the Europa League. Paul Martin Jersey . No matter. The Pittsburgh Penguins star can handle things by himself when he needs to. Malkin scored in his return from a lower-body injury, Sidney Crosby added his 16th goal, and the Penguins beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Monday night. http://www.sharkshockeyshop.us/Paul-Martin-Jersey/ . -- Despite being only two games above . http://www.sharkshockeyshop.us/Joel-Ward-Jersey/ . Sam Carrick and Jerry DAmigo, with an empty-netter, also scored as part of a three-goal third period that broke the game open for Toronto. Josh Leivo, Spencer Aboott and Jerrod Smithson collected two assists apiece in front of an announced crowd of 6,399 at Ricoh Coliseum.DENVER -- Buster Posey understands all the fuss over his healing left leg. He really does, even if hes asked the same questions again and again. And when the San Francisco Giants catcher takes a day off -- even a scheduled one such as Monday against Colorado -- he realizes theres bound to be more scrutiny. Everythings fine with the leg, right? No setbacks with the ankle, correct? Thats simply the way its going to be all season long if Posey sits out, plays first base instead of catch or is replaced late in a contest. But the leg is indeed doing just fine. Maybe even a little better than Posey anticipated at this point. Late last May, Posey was out for the year when he broke a bone in his left leg and tore three ankle ligaments on a horrific collision at the plate with the Marlins Scott Cousins. So far this season, Posey has hardly given the leg a second thought. Well, besides a few more pregame stretches to loosen it up and icing the ankle afterward, something he hardly ever used to do. "Im really happy with the way my ankle feels," said Posey, whose team has two more games against the Rockies before their home opener Friday against Pittsburgh. "Everything is all go." Poseys hitting .333 through three games and launched a homer off Arizonas Josh Collmenter over the weekend. Still, theres one more test thats waiting out there for him: The close play at the plate. Posey got a small taste in spring training against the Texas Rangers during an exhibition game. In that March contest, Posey admitted that he might have stepped more away from the plate than in the past and put a swipe tag on Mitch Moreland that missed. Next time, in a game that really counts, there wont be any hesitation. Theres simply no time to think about what might happen. "When it comes down to it, youve got to let your instincts take over," Posey said. "The main thing was to make sure I waas prepared this spring with my positioning. http://www.sharkshockeyshop.us/Tomas-Hertl-Jersey/. " Being without Posey last season certainly hurt the Giants. He was an important piece during their run to a World Series title in 2010, as much for his ability to handle the pitching staff as to produce clutch hits. Having him back in the lineup is a boon for aces Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain. To ensure the 2010 NL Rookie of the Year doesnt wear down, Giants manager Bruce Bochy has a definitive plan in mind. Namely, days off whenever Posey needs them and the occasional start at first base to cut down on the constant rigours of catching. "We check on him every game, to see how hes doing," Bochy said. "I dont know if we need to do that anymore. He feels fine. "But we have a pretty good idea how were going to run this. As we get into it, no days off for two weeks, lets say, hes going to mix in a game at first. He still needs a day off; thats not a day off." The Giants also have a reliable backup in Hector Sanchez, who has rapidly risen through the teams minor-league system to make his first Opening Day roster this season. Last year, Sanchez split time between Single-A San Jose and Triple-A Fresno, hitting a combined .285 with 12 homers and 84 RBIs. After a late call-up with San Francisco, Sanchez spent the winter honing his swing in the Venezuelan winter league, where he had the second-best average (.339) and finished fourth in RBIs (39). And Bochy wont hesitate to put Sanchez in the lineup. "He can handle the bat. He showed that last year, both in Fresno and when we called him up," Bochy said. "He has a good idea of what hes doing up there." Bochy is all about bringing along his younger players at a speed they can handle. He knows when hold back. "Weve got the season ahead of us," he said. "I dont anybody putting too much pressure on themselves too early." The BC Lions has extended head coach Mike Benevides contract through the 2016 season. http://www.belgievoetbalshirt.be/belgie-uitshirt-nacer-chadli-2016-dames-adidas-uefa-europees-kampioenschap-voetbal-authentic-lichtblauw-22-voetbalshirt.html . Benevides enters his third year at coaching the Lions after taking over from Wally Buono in 2011. He has posted a 24-12 regular season record over the past two seasons. “Mike continues to grow as both a coach and a leader and hes earned this extension,” said Lions general manager Wally Buono. “He has led our team to winning regular season records and consecutive playoff appearances while putting his own unique stamp on the team and his staff.” Benevides has spent the past 10 seasons as a member of the Lions staff starting out as the clubs special teams coordinator and linebackers coach from 2003 to 2007 and defensive coordinator from 2008 to 2011. The ultimate goal is to win a championship and to say that anything has truly been accomplished yet would not be accurate," Benevides said Tuesday. "I am very proud of the men we have assembled to try and bring home the Grey Cup this year and I will continue to make that our number one goal each and every day I have the privilege of leading these outstanding men.” The Lions open the 2014 regular season Saturday at home against the Edmonton Eskimos. http://www.belgievoetbalshirt.be/t-shirt-ontwerpen-online.html . -- Kevin Durant insists he and Russell Westbrook arent turning their first-round series into a two-man show, even if the NBA scoring champ says they may be shooting too much. http://www.belgievoetbalshirt.be/dedryck-boyata-belgie-voetbalshirt.html . Barnhart penalized Castroneves for passing while under a yellow flag, a ruling that dropped the Team Penske driver from seventh place to 22nd. In a post on his Twitter page, Castroneves said he was "very disappointed for finishing seventh and being put to 22nd," adding.FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes. Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 60-yard field goal. The New England Patriots didnt allow a point for more than 58 minutes. More importantly, theyre not getting carried away with their 30-7 preseason blowout of the Panthers on Friday night. "We could have lost 30-7. None of its going to matter two weeks from now" in the season opener, Brady said. "Its not so much the final score. Its just more how guys are playing." Carolinas didnt play very well. They were outgained 405-271, allowed three quarterbacks to direct scoring drives and didnt score until Joe Webb threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Jefferson with 1:12 left. "There was no consistency in the way we played," said Panthers coach Ron Rivera, who may use his regulars longer than he had hope next Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "Its something that has to be corrected and has to be fixed now." Brady led the Patriots (2-1) to scores on three of his five series and completed 17 of 21 passes for 204 yards. Newton was 8 for 12 for 88 yards and was sacked three times. All five of his possessions ended in punts. Both quarterbacks left after their first series of the third quarter. Regulars usually see their most action in the third game, and it was clear that the Panthers (1-2) must get better play from their offence and from a defence that was the second stingiest in the NFL last season. New England had more time to prepare after beating the Philadelphia Eagles 42-35 a week earlier. "Theres no game plan," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. "We cant game plan for 90 guys. We can barely get it right when we have 46. Thats just not what this game is." The Panthers had just four days to get ready after last Sunday nights 28-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. "Thats an excuse," Rivera said. "I dont want to use excuses. We practiced. We had a good game plan." Rivera would like to limit Newtons running, despite his skill, and one dash Friday night appeared to stuun the quarterback. http://www.belgievoetbalshirt.be/zakaria-bakkali-belgie-voetbalshirt.html. He was tackled after running 7 yards when he couldnt find a receiver. Trainers went on the field to check on him, and he was replaced by Derek Anderson before returning after one play. Newton had the wind knocked out of him and X-rays on his back were negative, Rivera said. Brady played the first two series before Ryan Mallett came in for some snaps against the first-string defence. His drive ended with a 47-yard field goal by Gostkowski. "A lot of the breakdowns we had today were because of lack of communication," Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly said. The first of Bradys two long drives covered 91 yards and ended with a 40-yard touchdown on a pass to Shane Vereen that the back carried for the last 37. Brady completed 4 of 5 passes for 83 yards on the series. His next drive began at his own 9 with 1:47 left in the half and ended with Gostkowskis long field goal, 6 yards better than his career long. "Its really a win-win situation," Gostkowski said. "Nobody really expects you to make it so it really puts your mind at ease." In the third quarter, Brady ended an 80-yard march with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Vereen that made it 20-0. On the next series, Carolina moved from its 20 to the Patriots 7, but Steve Beauharnais intercepted Andersons pass and returned it 61 yards to the Carolina 35. That drive ended in a 21-yard field goal by Gostkowski, and the Patriots tacked on another touchdown on Jimmy Garoppolos 11-yard pass to Taylor McCuller. "The days are winding down until these games count, so it gets pretty exciting here in a few weeks," Brady said, "but youve still got to try to use these days to make as many improvements as we can." NOTES: Patriots LB Jerod Mayo missed his second straight game, although he was in uniform. TE Rob Gronkowski also sat out as he aims to be ready for the regular season after knee surgery. ... Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart gained 11 yards on four carries after rushing for two touchdowns in his previous game. Many of the Blue Jays bright lights of the future are getting long looks at the teams Spring Training camp in Dunedin in the knowledge that more time in the minor leagues is needed before they make the jump to everyday duties in the Bigs. Sean Mannion Jersey . However, one Opening Day position remains unclaimed. The battle for Left Field remains heated through the third week of camp with Eric Thames and Travis Snider battling it out for the teams one available outfield job. Thames appeared to enter the spring with the edge, often taking the field and running drills with projected starters Jose Bautista and Colby Rasmus in the early going as well as suiting up with the pair to start the teams spring opener on Mar. 3. However, some believe Snider to have the higher ceiling in terms of projected major league talent. Just three years ago Snider was dubbed the sixth-best prospect in Baseball Americas annual Top 100 behind the likes of David Price, Jason Heyward and current teammate Colby Rasmus. However, his numbers over the past three seasons led to Thames establishing residency in left in 2011 from late June onward. But which player is the answer, long-term? Here are the raw numbers - Thames: (25 y/o, Hits: Left, Throws: Right, Ht/Wt: 61" – 205 lbs) 2011 stats: 95 GP, .262 BA, 12 HR, 37 RBI, .769 OPS, 2 SB, .987 Fielding %, 2 Assists Spring Training stats (as of 03/12): 17 AB, .294 BA, 1 HR, 4 RBI, .898 OPS, 0 SB, 1.000 F%, 0 Assists Snider: (24 y/o, Hits: Left, Throws: Left, Ht/Wt: 60" – 235 lbs) 2011 stats: 49 GP, .225 BA, 3 HR, 30 RBI, .616 OPS, 9 SB, .969 Fielding %, 4 Assists Spring Training stats (as of 03/12): 19 AB, .316 BA, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 1.223 OPS, 1 SB, 1.000 F%, 3 Assists Its no secret that Snider has struggled to find consistency as a major leaguer. In his fourth year with the Jays, Snider has seen his average drop from .301 (in 24 games in 200 to last seasons low of .225. But Sniders problem doesnt seem to be hitting major league pitching, his problem seems to be stringing together a season of regular success at the plate. Snider was demoted to Las Vegas (AAA) at the end of April of last year. He returned to the Jays in July and promptly caught fire. In his first 13 games back with the club, he hit .357 and drove in 17 runs. However, 11 games and just six hits later, Snider was back in Vegas where he would finish the year. With Sniders demotion, Thames became the everyday left fielder. However, his numbers down the stretch were not much better than Sniders. Thames hit .247 from August onward, including just .211 through September and October. However, he did seem to respond to hitting second in the order throughout his 95-game stint, doing much of his damage from that spot, including a .285 average with 11 homers and 31 runs batted-in in 71 games. Thames appears to have the confidence of Jays manager John Farrell at the plate, while Snider offers better speed, defence and versatility in the outfield. Thames had his best games with the Jays as the teams designated hitter last season. While only appearing in 14 games as the teams DH, Thames hit a whopping .354 when he didnt have to take the field, scoring 11 runs in the process. Snider, meanwhile, offers the kind of outfield hustle that saw him occasionally fill in as the Jays centrefielder and doubled Thames outfield assists total in just over half as many games. But the numbers at the plate – especially when the going gets tough – favour Thames in the head-to-head battle. While both players had better numbers against righties, Thames .216 average against left-handers looks sparkling when put alongside Sniders mark of .152 against south-paws. Another issue with Snider is patience and poise at the plate, seeing him hit just .127 in 63 at-bats that saw pitchers get ahead of him in the count. Thames mark of .203 – while unspectacular – at least puts him above the Mendoza Line. So the Jays are left to evaluate the pair with the weeks remaining in camp. The team has set itself up to allow possible future starters to develop slowly in the minors, with high-ceiling players like Travis dArnaud, Anthony Gose, Adeiny Hechevarria and Kyle Drabek patiently waiting for their shot. So the team is likely unconcerned at the prospect of sending one of the two talented young players to Las Vegas to start the year or even to play out the year in full. The teams patient approach to player development has been well documented and should one player cement his hold on the job, the team will then be left with the task of either reshaping or relocating whichever player loses out on the everyday gig. But with the pair seemingly getting an equal shot at the job in the early-going this spring, it seems that the team itself is still making up its mind. KISSIMMEE, Fla. Brandon Beachy Dodgers Jersey . -- Atlanta has released pitcher Freddy Garcia, who was contending for a spot in the Braves battered rotation. The team announced the decision Monday, the deadline for Garcia to be put on the major league roster -- which would have triggered a $1.25 million guaranteed salary. "They said they didnt want to pick it up. I have to go," said Garcia, who started Game 4 of last years NL division series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 37-year-old right-hander was let go despite a strong outing Sunday, when he limited the New York Mets to an unearned run and two hits over 5 1-3 innings. He was 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA in five spring training starts. With Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy out for the season, and Mike Minor on the disabled list through at least mid-April as he comes back from a sore shoulder, the Braves are pursuing a trade, waiver-wire deal or signing. "Its a fluid situation," general manager Frank Wren said. "There could be other things that happen. Be patient." Clubhouse attendants already were preparing for the arrival of right-hander Aaron Harang, who was released from a minor league contract by Cleveland on Monday. If a move isnt made, the opening-day rotation would consist of Julio Teheran, Alex Wood, rookie David Hale and non-roster invitee Gus Schlosser. Ervin Santana, signed late in spring training to a $14.1 million, one-year contract after Medlen and Beachy got hurt, is set to join the rotation the second week of the season after building his arm strength. Gavin Floyd, coming back from elbow surgery, could be ready by the end of April along with Minor. Minor is scheduled to make his first appearance of spring training Saturday in an exhibition at Rome, Ga., against a Braves minor league squad. Floyd is to pitch for the first time Friday in a minor league game. "Out rotation depth will change drastically in a few weeks and that was part of our decision," said Wren, who insisted that cutting Garcia wasnt financially motivated. Garcia, who has won 156 games, was visibly shaken. "I want to pitch, but not going to the minor leagues," he said. "I come here and try the best I can. I threw yesterday the way I want to pitch and they decided to go the other way. ... They made a decision, and I got to go with it." The team trimmed its active roster to 29 players by optioning left-hander Ryan Buchter and outfielders Jose Constanza and Joey Terdoslavich to Triple-A Gwinnett, and reassigning infielders Tyler Greene and Tommy La Stella to the International League team. The demotion of Buchter left another non-roster pitcher, Ian Thomas, as the second left-hander in the bullpen behind Luis Avilan. Most of you have known it as the home of The Beatles. The one Im talking about is the home of country and western singer Hank Snow (Hank, who died in 1989 would have been 100 this year). Im talking about the other Liverpool - the one in Canada - Atlantic Canada - on the south coast of Nova Scotia 90 minutes south of Halifax. Its nice, cute and quaint - almost a flashback in time look-type of town. Population of about 2,000, bolstered by the adjoining communities of Milton and Brooklyn. So you the idea that this is small town Canada, even very small town. Needless to say, Liverpool doesnt make national headlines. But it has in recent years and it wasnt for good reasons. Over a year ago the big White Point resorts main lodge went up in flames, putting a tourist hub out of work. And then the industry that gave this area its birth - the Bowater paper mill - closed and put hundreds of others out of work after 83 years. Yes, its been tough times. But a decision was made almost four years ago to build a recreation centre and arena - to the tune of $21 million - and its this centre that is the star of Liverpool today. And this tiny town is hosting a big national sporting event as the Canadian Junior National Curling championships are being held here. Of course, TSN - which is accustomed to broadcasting in small towns as shown by the Kraft Celebration Tour - is here. They made it to a neighboring town of Bridgewater for one delightful Sunday afternoon on last summers tour. But Bridgewater at 20,000 people is a metropolis compared to Liverpool. This is by far the biggest event ever held in Liverpool going back to 1759, and it all comes back to the new arena which, like so many places in Canada, is the centre of a town. Before this event, one has to go back 50 to 60 years in the days of the H&D Baseball League when Moe Drabowsky came to town to get big provincial coverage. Remember Moe? He was an American baseball player who came to this region to play semi-pro ball. Moe Drabowsky pitched in Liverpool on his way up to a decent major league career. He pitched in the majors for many teams, but is remembered for his days with Baltimore. He still holds a major league record of striking out 11 batters in a relief appearannce in the 1966 World Series and his six consecutive strikeouts of the Dodgers - tying him with a mark set in 1909. Hyun-Jin Ryu Blue Jersey. Moes Orioles beat the Dodgers winning four straight. No NHL hockey players or CFLers have ever come from Liverpool. There are some provincial highlights, but not national ones over the decades. The local legion held the National Cribbage tournament in 2013, but that doesnt count as it really was confined to legions across the county and crib is not a spectator sport. We as Canadians talk a lot about our love for hockey and arenas across Canada and this building has given this area that has suffered so many hard knocks over the year a great showcase. The reason this national curling event is here - and the reason the TSN mobile trucks are in town - is Queens Place. There is no other reason. The curling will be underway with the womens finals on Saturday and the mens final on Sunday afternoon. If you thought the Kraft Celebration Tour was big in nearby Bridgewater five months ago, you have to see this event. Its nothing for the NHL and CFL centres to get national coverage. Its a much bigger deal for when a very small community gets, even for just a few hours, the national spotlight for a sporting event. Queens Place, in its second year, still looks like new. There was a little resistance as the hockey rink changed to a curling venue, but most of that dissipated when folks realized what an economic boom this national curling event was to this area. Signs of "Welcome to our House" are all over the place, along with "Liverpool Rocks." The folks in this area have battled back from many debilitating blows over the last few years and have staged a great national curling event. This weekend will showcase the building and the town on national television on TSN. Its a good story - maybe even a great one. This is my 25th year affiliated with TSN - 12 of them on television reporting from every nook and cranny in Atlantic Canada. And six years ago I moved to the Liverpool area. In my 25 years of covering stories in Atlantic Canada, this is my first shout out from here and Im glad – and proud - to do so. For TSN.ca, Im Alex J. Walling. Winnipeg Jets 3 Columbus Blue Jackets 2 – The win puts the Jets back at . Anton Tinnerholm Jersey .500 on the season and a game above .500 on the road at 8-7-1. Jets are now 5-2 in their last seven road games. The win also snapped a three game winless streak for the Jets. The road trip continues Tuesday in Buffalo (TSN Jets, TSN 1290), the fourth back to back situation for the Jets this season. Jets are 0-2-1 in the second game. It was a tight checking affair in Columbus, with not a lot of scoring chances in the first. Neither Jets goaltender Al Montoya nor Blue Jackets goaltender Mike McKenna was busy with the shots and after one the totals were 7-5 in favour of the Jets. Jacob Trouba was involved in his first NHL fight as he very much held his own against Matt Calvert. Adam Pardy and Nick Foligno also picked up fighting majors in the opening period. The games opening goal came at 13:59 of the second, with Mark Scheifele putting an Evander Kane pass into the top part of the net for his fourth of the year. Kane was back after missing the last six games due to injury. Its the second straight road trip where Scheifele scored the first goal, although this is a two game trip, vs the last trip which was a six game trip that started in New Jersey. Scheifele now has eight points in his last 11 games. Michael Frolik also drew an assist, giving him nine points in these last 12 games. Jets outshot the Blue Jackets 16-11 in the second. The third period was an offensive explosion as the two teams combined for four goals, three in a span of under three minutes. Bryan Little with his 14th goal of the season gave the Jets a 2-0 lead. The goal came on a power play, giving the Jets five power play goals in the last four games. Dustin Byfuglien drew an assist giving him points on 12 of the Jets 16 power play goals. It stayed that way until RJ Umberger got the Blue Jackets on the board with his eighth of year. One minute and 47 seconds later it was back to a two-goal game as Kane notched his eight of the season, a great shot on an odd man rush. Just one minute and four seconds after that, it was back to a one-goal game with Fedor Tyutin notching his fourth. The Jets did not give up many more chances as they went on for the 3-2 win, outshooting Columbus 32-24. It was the Jets 21st one-goal game of the year. Kane and Byfuglien each had six shots on goal, with Byfuglien leading the way in ice time at 27:31. Scheifele played 20:39, his second highest ice time of the season. He was a plus two and is now even on the season, and extended his point streak to three. Frolik also extended his point streak to three, while Little is now at four (2-2-4). Little also has 23 points in his last 23 games. Coach Claude Noel, who spent three seasons as a member of the Blue Jackets coaching staff, felt his team played a pretty good game. "The game opened up in the third more than we would have liked but we managed late in the third period pretty well. The power play goal was big." On the return of Kane, Noel said. "He looked good. The goal was good and he made a good play on the Scheifele goal. He got banged up a bit but hell be fine." As for this being a response game. "A response game, no, but the misery we felt during the home stand, this game was important." Wanting more balance on the back end, Coach Noel juggled his pairings, with Byfuglien paired with Grant Clitsome (his first game back in Columbus after being picked up on waivers by the Jets), Trouba with Toby Enstrom and Mark Stuart with Pardy. CLEARWATER, Florida – J. Glen Rice Hornets Jersey .A. Happ got the start in the Blue Jays rain-shortened, Grapefruit League opener against the Phillies but it was Todd Redmond who left an early impression on his manager. "Redmonds like anybody else, hes going to get hit every now and then but all weve ever seen out of him is good pitching and he gets guys out," said John Gibbons. "Hes pretty polished." The 29-year-old pitched two clean innings, the second and third, striking out a batter over 22 pitches. He got the win, for what thats worth on February 26, in a 4-3 game called midway through the seventh. Redmond is among more than a half-dozen pitchers in contention for the last starting rotation spot. While not much can be made of one outing, Redmonds performance resonated following a comment Gibbons made before the game. "Usually what happens, when theres a spot open, the guy that takes it, some of those guys have those springs where theyre good all spring and theres no doubt about it ... a lot of times that guy from day one, man, hes standing out and theres no hiccups." All Redmonds ever wanted is an opportunity. Here it is, less than three months before hell turn 29. Think hes overwhelmed? Redmonds been around too long – eight minor league cities over nine seasons – to get rattled by the best chance hes had to crack an opening day roster. "Im an easy-going guy," said Redmond. "Just give me the ball, Ill go out there and pitch. Same thing as I do every day. I pitch." Redmond made 17 appearances for the Blue Jays last season, 14 of them starts. Hed only made one previous appearance in the majors, a start for the Reds in 2012 that didnt go well. Familiarity breeds a sense of comfort. "I have a little more confidence coming into camp. Of my stuff, not of me, just of my stuff. More trusting of my ability," he said. As a starter last season, Redmond slowly earned Gibbons trust, which allowed Redmond to pitch deeper into games. If hes going to succeed at the major league level, however, Redmond will have to vastly improve his numbers facing hitters for a second and third time through the order. Batters have a .627 on-base plus slugging percentage against Redmond the first time through. Redmonds OPS against spikes to .939 when the lineup turns over and .914 the third time around. He insists durability isnt an issue. "My entire career, if you look at my minor league side of it, I dont think Ive ever thrown under 160 innings a year," said Redmond. "The workload. Thats one thing I take pride in is being able to go out there every fifth day and take the ball." Redmonds almost right. In the seven seasons between 2007 and 2012, he logged at least 160 innings five times and never through less than 145 innings. Having worked a modified heavy ball program this offseason, he would typically stretch with the one-pound or two-pound weighted ball prior to throwing, Redmond says his should feels strong as he makes the push for a job in the rotation. "Hes been a good pitcher in the minor leagues," said Gibbons. "Every year hes pretty steady and he never really had that opportunity until he came here last year. If this is his year he makes it and he goes on to have a good year, hell be a big league player and I dont think there will be any looking back." DRABEK UNHAPPY WITH PERFORMANCE Kyle Drabek was visibly upset with his first spring performance, a line that looked like this: 1.2IP/1ER/1H/3BB/1K. In his only full inning of work, Drabek threw 11 pitches but only four for strikes. A candidate for that final rotation spot, he was most bothered by the lack of command. "Ive had it so good in all the bullpens," said Drabek. "Its just frustrating for me to kind of fall back into being wild a little bit. I know what I can do and thats not me." "Kyles whole thing, get it into the zone and hes fine," said Gibbons. "Hes had a long layoff through the surgery. He pitched some last year but in a lot of ways, hes been out for so long it may be something that he can build back into." The 26-year-old has a history of control problems. Hes averaged 5.8 walks per nine innings over 169 1/3 big league innings. Returning from Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery last season, Drabek vastly improved his walk rate, issuing just six bases on balls over 43 innings. BAUTISTA IMPRESSIVE It took Jose Bautista all of three pitches to appear in midseason form. He smacked a 2-0, Roberto Hernandez fastball out of the park, literally. The drive to left field cleared the Phillies bullpen, the walkway behind the bullpen and the fence beyond the walkway. "I dont know, for whatever reason, I feel like Im seeing (the ball) better," said Bautista. "Theres nothing that I could have done different. Im not going to go to play winter ball right now. Its kind of odd because I havent played since August. But Im not complaining." CABRERA LIKELY TO HIT SECOND Its not even March, everyone is healthy, and manager John Gibbons is able to envision putting together a full lineup, something he wasnt able to do all of last season. Jose Reyes will lead off and, as the plan was at this time last year, Melky Cabrera has the inside track to bat behind him. "The only real downfall is he does hit a lot of ground balls but you look at what hes done the last few years, take away last year, and hes been one of the better hitters in baseball," said Gibbons. "We like guys there that can get a lot of hits. Hes a switch-hitter, he can manipulate the bat a little bit, he knows how to do those things. Ideally, if hes the player we expect him to be, than hed be a good guy for that spot." One thing Cabrera doesnt do often is walk, an ideal trait of a two-hole hitter and something that would get him on base more often ahead of sluggers Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion. After walking 56 times in 2006, his first full year in the big leagues, Cabrera hasnt had more than 43 bases on balls in a season. A HEALTHY PERSPECTIVE Nobody wants to read about or hear about injury as an excuse for the Jays disappointing 2013 year. But a little perspective never hurt anyone, either. Last season, manager John Gibbons had these six players – Jose Reyes, Melky Cabrera, Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Colby Rasmus and Brett Lawrie – in the lineup at the same time on only eight occasions all year. It happened over an 11-day period, starting on July 21 and ending on August 1. Spencer Hawes Jersey . Off-Season Game Plan looks at a changing of the guard in the Motor City. Nicklas Lidstrom didnt miss the playoffs in 20 seasons with the Red Wings and, even without their number one option on the blueline, there is a solid enough core on this team to think that the Red Wings are going to remain competitive. Marvin Williams Teal Jersey . On Wednesday night, the Pacers got the payoff. Luis Scola, Donald Sloan and Lance Stephenson combined for all 12 points in a decisive fourth-quarter run, sending the still unbeaten Pacers past division rival Chicago 97-80 and to its best start since 1971-72. http://www.officialhornetsonline.us/nicolas-batum-hornets-jersey/ . If not, the Colts will have to play the first six games without the four-time MVP. League rules require players on the physically unable to perform list to be activated by the teams final cutdown, Sept. NASHVILLE -- Mike Munchak believes the Tennessee Titans arent far off from becoming a playoff team, and hell argue that he should keep coaching them in 2014 in the next few days. Texans owner Bob McNair could hire a new coach before Houston decides who will be the No. 1 draft selection in May. Chris Johnson ran for 127 yards and a touchdown in what might be his last game with the Titans, who beat the Houston Texans 16-10 Sunday for a win that might help Munchaks argument to stay on the job. "I think I have a good feel for what needs to be done," said Munchak, now 22-26 in three seasons. "Thats what well talk about the next few days, and well find out how they want to go forward." With their 14th straight loss, the Texans (2-14) at least made sure whoever their next coach is will have the top draft pick. Interim coach Wade Phillips declined to answer whether hes interested in staying with the Texans if hes not picked to take over. "We got in a whirlwind, and it never ended," Phillips said of the skid. The Titans (7-9) scored 16 straight points in snapping a five-game home skid that was their longest since leaving Houston for Tennessee in 1997. They also won a second straight game for the first time since September, when they started 3-1. "We always talk about finishing, and we did that," Titans tight end Delanie Walker said. Rob Bironas kicked three field goals, including a season-best 55-yarder. Linebacker Akeem Ayers intercepted a pass and forced a fumble as the Titans got four turnovers they turned into 10 points. The Texans had one last chance with the ball and 66 seconds left, but Michael Griffin intercepted an overthrown pass by Matt Schaub. That was the third turnover by the Texans quarterback. Johnson became the sixth man in NFL history to run for at least 1,000 yards in each of his first six seasons with a 23-yard run in the second quarter, joining Barry Sanders, Curtis Martin, LaDanian Tomlinson, Eric Dickerson and Corey Dillon. But Johnson, who ran for 2,006 yards in 2009, is due $8 million in 2014, with $29 million left on his contract. That might be too much to pay for someone who postedd only his second 100-yard rushing game of the season Sunday. Frank Kaminsky Hornets Jersey. . The running back said he thought about whether this might be his last game in Tennessee when he ran through the tunnel before turning his attention to getting the win. "Only thing I could control was the game today," Johnson said. The Texans now can focus on 2014 after a miserable season that saw Jonathan Grimes, signed Dec. 18, become the fifth running back to start this season. Defensive end J.J. Watt called it his most frustrating season personally. "Im sure a lot of guys, just like me, are ready to move on and get to work in the off-season and never let this happen again," Watt said. McNair already has been interviewing possible replacements for Gary Kubiak, fired Dec. 6, with Phillips hoping his performance as defensive co-ordinator earns him the job. Tennessee outgained Houston 311-288 in total offence, with 165 coming on the ground thanks to Johnson. The Texans were up 7-6 at halftime thanks to an opening drive where they looked like the two-time AFC South champs they came into the season as. The banged-up team even got good production from Grimes, who capped the drive with his first NFL TD on a 3-yard carry and ripped through the Titans early. Houston didnt score again until Randy Bullock kicked a 19-yard field goal with 2:53 left when Phillips decided not to go for a touchdown on fourth-and-goal at the Titans 1. Tennessee finally got took its first lead late in the third quarter. Ayers intercepted a ball that clanked off the face mask of Titans safety Bernard Pollard on Schaubs pass a little behind Texans tight end Ryan Griffin. Johnsons 11-yard TD put them ahead to stay 13-7. NOTES: Kendall Wright finished with 94 catches, becoming the first Titans receiver with 90 or more in a season since Derrick Mason had 96 in 2004. ... Walker finished with a career-high 60 catches, becoming the only tight end other than Frank Wycheck to reach that mark with this franchise. ... Pro Bowl receiver Andre Johnson finished with six catches for 49 yards for Houston. ... The Titans snapped a three-game skid to Houston in this series. With the NHL having paid Wayne Gretzky the remaining funds owed to Wayne Gretzky from the Phoenix Coyotes, the rumours of his next NHL destination are in full swing. Adidas ZX 700 UK . And theyre pointing to the NHLs biggest market: Toronto. With Gretzky paid out for what is believed to be $7 to 8 million, Gretzky may be eager to get back into the NHL and TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports that the Maple Leafs are very much interested in The Great Ones services. But could it actually happen? Dreger spoke with TSN Radio 1050 Torontos Mike Richards this morning, stating that there is a fit between Gretzky and the Leafs. "There definitely is a possibility because there is some history here," Dreger told TSN Radio. "Prior to the start of the season I know that [Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment CEO] Tim Leiweke and Wayne Gretzky and probably some legal people involved in this negotiation as well went back and forth and came very close until the deal broke down for a number of reasons that remain somewhat uncertain. The belief is that Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment wanted Gretzky at the time and still want him as almost an ambassador-type." However, MLSE doesnt see "ambassador-type" as merely a figure-head or spokesperson role, according to Dreger. "This isnt a token position," he told Richards. "They want to put him to work and they want to use him in different areas and not to pay specific attention to just the Toronto Maple Leafs." Dreger added that its not likely that Gretzky will be asked to fix the on-ice product of the Leafs. "Theyre happy with the work Dave Nonis is doing and dont want to interfere with the hockey operations department, but when youve got someone as [high] profile as Wayne Gretzky it makes a lot of sense, I suppose, to MLSE to do whatever you can to lure him in," he said. Gretzky and the Leafs have been linked by rumours throughout the year, including the off-season rumours as well as The Great One praising the young Leafs response to head coach Randy Carlyle in the first round of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Boston Bruins. "Its about believing in your system. The system starts with the head coach," Gretzky said of the Leafs following a gutsy Game 5 win over the Bruins. "Hes got tremendous credibility after winning a Stanley Cup himself [2007 in Anaheim]. Its not a question of players saying, Are we sure he knows what hes doing? Because theyre absolutely positive he knows what hes doing. The credibility starts right there with the coach." But would there be a fit between Gretzky and the team closest to his home town? Dreger thinks MLSE is at least willing to give it another try. "It didnt work out prior to the season but the sense I get is that therell be another attempt and I know that the Toronto Maple Leafs - or MLSE, as it were, as the bigger company – is definitely worth listening to if youre Wayne Gretzky." Adidas ZX Flux Print Black . The above paragraph could be rewritten, verbatim, with Marcus Stromans name in place of Romeros. After both men had disastrous outings in Tuesdays 18-4 mauling at the hands of the Tigers, its clear that neither is the best option to begin the season in Toronto. The Lions traded their fifth overall pick in the 2014 CFL Draft to the Ottawa Redblacks for QB Kevin Glenn.TORONTO -- An early-morning trade by the Toronto Maple Leafs paid off immediately Saturday night as the acquisition of centre Peter Holland moved James van Riemsdyk back to his natural left wing position. Van Riemsdyk scored twice and Nikolai Kulemin picked up the game-winner as Toronto snapped a three-game losing skid with a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. The Maple Leafs (12-7-1) placed the newly acquired Holland on its top line between Phil Kessel and van Riemsdyk. Van Riemsdyk, who has spent his entire career on the wing, looked comfortable back on the left side, scoring his eighth and ninth goals of the season in the first period. The 24-year-old had been pointless in his previous five games, four of those at centre. "Im probably a little more comfortable playing there," van Riemsdyk said. "It allows me to do some different things. Being in front of the net a lot more often, thats a big part of my game obviously." At 5:45, van Riemsdyk re-directed a Cody Franson point shot to open the scoring. Then at 13:35, on a power play, van Riemsdyk re-directed another Franson shot to give Toronto a 2-0 lead. "We work on that quite a bit in practice, tipping the pucks and shooting pucks to the net," van Riemsdyk said. "We have a little bit of that chemistry where I know where the puck is going to go. Thats all you ask for as a forward is for the puck to get to the net and I just got to tip it and hopefully it goes in." Kulemin made it 3-0 at 11:49 of the second period on just his third shot on goal of the season. Mason Raymond had the other goal for the Leafs. James Reimer made 33 saves to move to 5-2-0 on the season. Jonas Enroth made 18 saves for first-career loss against the Leafs. Jamie McBain got Buffalo (5-16-1) on the board 2:15 into the third with a slap shot, which beat Reimer glove-side for his second of the season. With the Sabres trailing 3-1 in the third, tempers boiled over following a collision between John Scott and Dion Phaneuf. During the next stoppage in play, Phaneuf crosschecked Cody McCormick as the two exchanged words. Torontos Colton Orr immediately stepped in and earned himself a 10-minute misconduct. "I kind off fell a little bit," said Phaneuf, explaining the situation. Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 31 White. "I obviously ran into (Scott), hes a big man. I was just going over to kind of talk to him a little bit and obviously McCormick came in, thats part of the game." Scott and Frazer McLaren each received 14 minutes in penalties on the play, ending their respective nights early after taking misconducts. A total of 30 minutes in penalties were handed out during the altercations. Tyler Ennis got the Sabres to within one when he one-timed a Matt Moulson feed for his third of the season past Reimer at 6:11. "We got off to a little bit of a slow start but I was more impressed with the game tonight than I was with last night," said Sabres coach, Ted Nolan. "I thought the majority of the play was in their zone the whole third period and the last part of the second period. We have some corrections we have to make and Im looking forward to doing that." Mark Fraser left the game in the first period after playing five shifts and 3:54. Post-game Randy Carlyle said Fraser suffered a lower-body injury. The Leafs defenceman has already missed 13 games this season with a knee injury. Earlier in the day, Toronto acquired Holland and Brad Staubitz from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenceman Jesse Blacker and a conditional third-round draft pick. Staubitz was sent to the AHLs Toronto Marlies. Holland, a native of Caledon, Ontario, said he found out about the trade this morning then caught a flight from Boston arriving in Toronto at 3 p.m. local time. "Dave Nonis gave me a call, said they were excited to have me," Holland said. "Its obviously really exciting to be playing with JVR and Phil. Two pretty special players. So to step in to the line-up and play with those guys is pretty fun. I thought we created some chances." Notes: Toronto assigned centre Troy Bodie to the Marlies. Leafs centre Nazem Kadri served the second game of his three game suspension for his hit to the head of Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom and is eligible to return to Torontos line up Nov. 21. District Court on Thursday, alleging that the league has generated billions of dollars while subjecting its players to the imminent risk of head trauma leading to devastating and long-term negative health consequences. The players in the suit - Dan LaCouture, Dan Keczmer, Jack Carlson, Richard Brennan, Brad Maxwell, Mike Peluso, Tom Younghans, Allan Rourke and Scott Bailey - are represented by Robbins Geller, the firm that won over $7 billion for victims of the 2001 Enron fraud. "As opposed to other elite-level ice hockey organizations, like the European ice hockey leagues and the Olympics, the NHL fostered and promoted an extremely physical game of ice hockey," read the complaint. "Through enclosed rink designs and lax rules for fighting, the NHL vectored a culture of extreme violence and packaged the spoils to adoring fans. "The NHL has failed and continues to fail to warn its players of these risks and consequences of head trauma, concealing material scientific and anecdotal information from its players.
