SAN ANTONIO -- Teams are finding out theres little they can do to stop Kevin Durant. Ryan Goins Jersey . Durant had 36 points to offset Tony Parkers season-high 37, and Oklahoma City survived a testy 111-105 victory over San Antonio on Wednesday night, their third win this season over the defending Western Conference champions. Durant is averaging 38.1 points in his last 11 games, helping the Thunder reclaim the Western Conferences record with a five-game winning streak and an 8-3 mark. "Kevin did his thing down the stretch, it was pretty remarkable," San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. Reggie Jackson gave Durant all the help he needed, matching his season high with 27 points while handing out eight assists. Durant and Jackson combined for 22 points on 9-for-15 shooting in a 35-point fourth quarter for Oklahoma City (33-10). Jackson had 11 consecutive points early in the fourth, blowing past Parker for layups to give the Thunder a 94-89 lead with 8 minutes left. "He has had great games against the Spurs," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "I cant put my finger on it. We want him to play aggressive basketball on both ends of the floor. I thought he did a good job of finding spots on the floor that he can finish around the rim." Jackson averages 13.2 points, but has scored 23.7 points against the Spurs this season. Durant bounced up and down excitedly after his second 3-pointer of the quarter gave Oklahoma City a 108-98 lead with 1 minute remaining. "Durant hit some tough shots, he hit some big 3s down the stretch and it just got away from us," Spurs veteran Tim Duncan said. "I dont know how else to explain it." Duncan and Boris Diaw scored 14 points each, Marco Belinelli had 13 points and Manu Ginobili added 10 points. Duncan added 13 rebounds, but San Antonio (32-10) struggled to overcome the loss of their top defensive stopper, Kawhi Leonard. Durant finished 12 for 22, but struggled to get his shot off against the snug defence of the 6-foot-7 Leonard, who has a 7-4 wingspan. Leonard left the game late in the first half after sustaining a non-displaced fracture in his right hand. His status is unknown, but a similar injury is expected to sideline Danny Green for a month. "Its tough, were dropping like flies right now," Duncan said. "Losing Kawhi was huge, especially in a game like tonight." Durant scored 24 points after Leonard left the game with 3 minutes left in the first half. "I felt early in the game the pick-and-roll was working," Durant said. "I was able to go at the bigs a little bit and in the second half I missed some shots, too. They did a good job of just being physical. I think in the second half the defence was a little better." With Leonard out, the Spurs rotated Belinelli, Ginobili and 6-3 former Texas Longhorns teammate Cory Joseph on the 6-9 Durant. San Antonio even attempted a zone at one point to slow Durant to no avail. "(He guarded Durant) just one time in the zone -- he just shot over me," Parker said. "He is on fire right now anyways. He played great tonight. You just have to give them credit." The Spurs used a physical defence against Durant with Leonard out, especially when Ginobili drew the assignment. The tough play angered Durant, who twice lowered his shoulder and dropped Ginobili. Both plays resulted in non-calls, which incensed Popovich. The Spurs coach screamed at officials while Durant appeared to yell at Popovich. Popovich was assessed a technical foul, which Durant angrily sank with 1:12 to give Oklahoma City a 55-51 lead with 1:19 left in the first half. Durant dismissed the heated emotion just as quickly as he did any psychological boost the Thunder will get from beating the rival Spurs three times. "Im sure those guys arent worried that we beat them three times," Durant said. "Were just going to keep plugging away." San Antonio is 1-9 against the Wests remaining top-five teams and the Easts best, Indiana, but they have bigger problems now. After remaining relatively healthy in reaching the NBA finals last season, the Spurs have been plagued by a rash of injuries in the past month. Leonard joins starting centre Tiago Splitter and former starter Green on the injured list. Parker is also still has a bruised shin that limits his mobility and long-range shooting forward Matt Bonner has to wear a mask after breaking his nose Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers. "(Losing Leonard) is a big loss for us," Parker said. "We are already down Tiago and Danny, but everyone goes through injuries and we have to deal with it. Other guys are going to have to step up, but we just have to keep playing." Parker had 20 points in the second half, including 12 in the fourth quarter. "Offensively, Tony was great, but he needed some help for a little while and we just did not get it to him," Duncan said. There were four lead changes and six ties in the third quarter, but Oklahoma City never trailed in the fourth. NOTES: Splitter (sprained right shoulder) and Green (broken left index finger) both missed the game. ... Oklahoma City is 10-4 in back-to-back games, including a 4-3 record on the second night. They have swept three back-to-backs this season. San Antonio has a 54-22 record at home over Oklahoma City. ... Bonner, the Spurs fun-loving forward, is playing along with the ribbing he is getting about the mask he must wear to protect the broken nose he sustained Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers. Duncan, who owns a vehicle customization shop, offered a custom-paint job for the clear mask and Parker joked that Bonner could "scare Durant" with it. Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News jokingly asked if the injury ends Bonners hopes of a modeling career once his NBA days are over. "I can still be a hand model," Bonner said. TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays have sent outfielder Kevin Pillar back to the minors, one day after the rookie threw his bat down the dugout steps when he was pulled for a pinch hitter. Shkodran Mustafi Jersey . The Blue Jays selected outfielder Brad Glenn from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday. Pillar was hitting .225 with no home runs and two RBIs, and was demoted to Triple-A. Pillar tossed his bat down the steps leading from the dugout to the clubhouse after Anthony Gose batted for him in the eighth inning Tuesday night against the Yankees. Pillar then walked the length of the dugout and took off his batting gloves while having a brief and civil conversation with manager John Gibbons. On Wednesday, Gibbons said Glenn was promoted to increase offensive production. But Gibbons acknowledged that Pillars antics "didnt help him at all." "This is a team game," Gibbons said. "Theres no room for selfish play." Alex Iwobi Jersey . Saskatchewans Darian Durant is expected to miss the rest of the Roughriders season with a torn tendon in his right elbow. The 32-year-old, who will undergo surgery in the next couple days to repair the injury, was added to the teams six-game injury list Tuesday. Mohamed Elneny Jersey . They beat Arizona 6-0 on Friday night in their first visit to the ballpark since clinching the NL West title there last September and angering the Diamondbacks by celebrating in the ballparks swimming pool. One of the ringleaders of the pool assault, Adrian Gonzalez, drove in five runs Friday night to snap out of a slow start that had him batting .189 with four RBIs coming in. Hyun-Jin Ryu, pitching on an extra days rest, threw seven dominant innings, allowing two hits, striking out eight and walking one. He retired 18 of his last 19 batters and allowed only a pair of singles by Miguel Montero. Gonzalez hit a two-run homer off Brandon McCarthy (0-2) in the first inning, doubled in two more in the third and had an RBI single in the eighth. The Dodgers Hanley Ramirez was 3 for 4 with two doubles, drove in a run and scored three times. "You dont get very many of these, where you score a few runs, everything goes good with your pitching, and there was really no true stress in the game," Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly said. "It was just one of those games that kind of went our way." Ramirez and Gonzalez, the Nos. 3 and 4 batters, were a combined 6 for 8 with six RBIs and four runs. "Thats what were there for," Gonzalez said. "Thats what were out here for is to try to get rusn for our pitcher." Gonzalezs homer, on the first pitch he saw, landed in the right-field seats, not too far from the pool. Jamey Wright pitched two hitless innings to complete the shutout, which took just 2 hours, 26 minutes. The Dodgers had not blanked the Diamondbacks in Arizona since July 27, 2003, according to STATS. Ryu rebounded from a rough outing a week earlier against San Francisco, when he was tagged for eight runs -- six earned -- in two innings. He said the difference this time was he kept the ball down in the strike zone. "Because I got hit around last game," Ryu said through an interpreter, ";I was trying a little harder today. Olivier Giroud Jersey. "er He beat the Diamondbacks for the second time this season. He was the winning pitcher in the Dodgers 7-5 victory over Arizona in Australia on March 23. In another example of the Diamondbacks starting pitching woes, McCarthy allowed six runs and 10 hits in seven innings. His ERA stands at 7.78. "I havent really felt like I have thrown terribly this season," he said. "It has just been a few pitches in there that have gone wrong and they happen to really hurt me. Whether it is a combination of bad luck and bad pitches, it is really getting old." He retired his first two batters, then Ramirez singled up the middle. That brought up Gonzalez, who had been hitting the ball had lately with little to show for it. That changed in one swing that made it 2-0. The Dodgers got two more on Gonzalezs two-run single in the third. McCarthy settled down after that, retiring 11 in a row before Dee Gordons one-out single in the seventh. Yasiel Puig doubled leading off the eighth and scored when Ramirez doubled into the left-field corner. Ramirez came home on Gonzalezs single. Puig was back in the starting lineup after being sidelined by a sprained left thumb, the result of a headfirst slide into first base against San Francisco last Saturday. He missed two games and struck out on three pitches as a pinch hitter against Detroit on Wednesday. NOTES: Paul Goldschmidt was 0 for 4 and failed to reach base for the first time in 32 games, ending the fourth-longest streak in Diamondbacks history. ... Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said RH Josh Collmenter would start Sunday against the New York Mets, with Randall Delgado going to the bullpen. ... The Diamondbacks signed 37-year-old LHP Randy Wolf to a minor league contract. He will pitch for Triple-A Reno. ... MIAMI -- Canadian Milos Raonic put up a fight but could not earn the upset as top seed Rafael Nadal recovered to win their quarter-final matchup in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 comeback at the Sony Open Thursday. Cleveland Browns Jerseys . The Thornhill, Ont., product cemented his return next week to the ATP top 10 as he won his first career set against Nadal after four losses in the series. Raonic rolled over slightly on his ankle as he dived for a return in the third set but appeared to shake it off near the end of the two-hour, 34 minute struggle. The Canadian was held to eight aces and one break for serve from just three chances. He had 28 winners to Nadals 26. Raonic and Nadal duelled for 52 minutes in a tight opening set. The only true opening came in the final game. Nadal lost his first career set against Raonic as he sent over a perfect stop volley which dropped dead near Nadals net, giving the 12th seed set point while leading 5-4. Nadal put over a nervous double fault to lose the opener, his first dropped set of the tournament. But the Raonic magic began to fade in the second set after he started to lose pace on his weak second serve, with Nadal going up a double break for 4-0. Raonic contributed a pair of costly double-faults to end both of his losing games as the Spaniard took control, gathering his trademark momentum. The 23-year-old Canadian saved a break point to start the third set as the contest started to peak. Nadal got a break for 4-3 after Raonic had rallied from 0-30 down but eventually hit the next with a backhand to drop serve for the third time. Nadal held for 5-3 and earned the victory two games later, sealing his move into the semifinals on a forehand winner down the line for the first of three match points. Britton Colquitt Jersey .com) - Mike Miller scored a season-high 21 points in a rare start and the Cleveland Cavaliers bounced back from their worst loss of the season with a 95-91 win over the Brooklyn Nets. Kevin Zeitler Jersey . The 41-year-old Northern Irishman has proved a perfect fit at Liverpool since taking over from Kenny Dalglish in the summer of 2012 and steered the team to an unexpected title challenge in the Premier League last season. http://www.footballbrownsnflprostore.com/Youth-Josh-Gordon-Elite-Jersey/ . The lightning strike was in the parking lot of Crew Stadium on Saturday night, but its not known if the off-duty lieutenant was struck directly, Columbus Fire Department Battalion Chief Tracy Smith said. The firefighter, identified as Lt.PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby, Chris Kunitz and Lee Stempniak have been playing together for less than two weeks. Funny, they looked like longtime friends during Pittsburghs 5-1 demolition of Dallas on Tuesday night. Quick to the puck and even quicker to the net, the Penguins top line overwhelmed the suddenly struggling Stars as Pittsburgh bounced back from a dismal weekend sweep at the hands of Philadelphia by jumping on Dallas early. Crosby scored his 32nd goal less than 5 minutes in, added his 33rd early in the third period and dished out an assist on Stempniaks first goal with the Penguins to push his point total to an NHL-leading 91. More importantly, Pittsburgh hardly looked like the team humbled by the Flyers during a forgettable home-and-home sweep. "We werent happy with those losses, we have to do better," Crosby said. "We wanted to make sure we went out there and played hard. Its a desperate team were playing and hopefully we can build that same emotion, same intensity we had tonight and carry it over to the rest of the season." Kunitz chipped in his 32nd goal after skipping two games with a leg injury and added an assist. Brandon Sutter pushed in a late short-handed goal and Jeff Zatkoff stopped 32 shots to win for the 11th time in his past 14 games. Tyler Seguin scored his 31st goal for the Stars. Kari Lehtonen made 27 saves, but Dallas slumped again on the road. The Stars have been outscored 12-3 over their past two games to slip out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. "I think you cant blame one guy for any of the goals," Seguin said. "This is a team matter were going to deal with. Its just about execution. Weve been showing glimpses of it lately, but too many breakdowns." A no-no when playing Crosby. The Pittsburgh captain seemed energized by the return of Kunitz. Reunited against a scuffling team trying to make a late run at the post-season, Crosby and Kunitz helped the Metropolitan Division-leading Penguins rebound by playing with the chemistry that makes them one of the most potent one-two combinations in the league. The game was less than 5 minutes old when Crosby put Pittsburgh in front. Fourth-line forward Craig Adams -- finishing out his shift -- dug out a loose puck in the corner and fed it to Crosby darting through the slot. Kenny Britt Jersey. Crosby deked past Dallas defenceman Sergei Gonchar then held the puck long enough for Lehtonen to commit before slipping the puck into an open net to give the Penguins some welcome momentum. Seguin tied it at 12:30 into the first with a pretty deflection off a Trevor Daley shot from the point, but the game was tied less than three minutes before Kunitz pounced on a rebound off a Stempniak shot to put the Penguins in front to stay. The Penguins acquired Stempniak from Calgary on March 5 hoping the veteran forward could patch the hole on the first line that hasnt really been filled since Pascal Dupuis was lost for the season with a knee injury in December. After a series of near misses in his first six games with Pittsburgh, Stempniak finally broke through 13:21 into the second period. He skated into the zone and dropped the puck to Crosby and sprinted to the net. The puck was on Stempniaks stick again a split second later as Kunitz hit him streaking through the slot. Stempniak knocked it in for his ninth of the season while getting tripped by Dallas Brenden Dillon in the process. "Its been a little while, its nice to get a goal," Stempniak said. "Great passing play from Sid to Chris. I went to the net and it was on my tape ... Sids so dynamic, he opens up a lot. Chris has a great shot. I just try to fit in and skate and keep up." That was more than enough for Zatkoff, who made two glove saves in the second period during Dallas best sustained pressure. Crosby banged in a rebound 1:56 into the third to push Pittsburghs lead to three and the pressure that had built after dispiriting performances against the Flyers -- games in which the Penguins said they were more concerned with the way they played than the actual score -- lifted. NOTES: Pittsburgh is 42-5-4 this season when Crosby collects at least one point. ... Dallas has lost three straight for the first time since a six-game skid from Jan. 2-12. ... The Penguins play at Detroit on Thursday. ... Dallas visits Philadelphia on Thursday. EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France -- Going up against a seven-time major winner more than twice her age, it was teenager Hyo-Joo Kim who showed the calm nerves of a veteran. Marc Savard Jersey . Kim came from a shot back on the last hole to beat Australian great Karrie Webb by one shot on Sunday and win the Evian Championship, becoming the third youngest major winner at 19 years, 2 months. The South Korean trailed the 39-year-old Webb heading into the 18th but turned the tables with a birdie from 12 feet out. Webb then missed a chance to force a playoff when a difficult attempt for par from the same distance drifted left of the hole. I feel very happy, like a bird, Kim said through a translator. I want to fly in the sky. Kim led Webb by one shot overnight and they both posted 3-under rounds of 68 in perfect conditions, with no clouds or wind to disrupt them. She finished on 11-under 273 overall, having shot the lowest ever round in a major with a 61 on Thursday. Webb, meanwhile, was looking to win her eighth career major and first since Kraft Nabisco in 2006. I believe in fate a little bit, and I wasnt meant to win, Webb said. I hit a lot of good putts this week. Probably the one on the last was the poorest I hit all week. Only Morgan Pressel and Lexi Thompson -- both from the U.S. -- have won majors at a younger age than Kim, who is studying physical education in Seoul. She seemed to take it all in her stride. When Webbs putt rolled wide, Kim removed her glasses slowly and then walked up to give Webb a small hug. Her caddie, Gordon Rowan, said Kim didnt know shed won at first. I dont think she was aware of the real situation of the scores, Rowan said. I said Youve won. She said No, no, I havent, which was quite sweet. Kim and Rowan were paired randomly the last time she played Evian, tying for fourth in 2012 -- the final year before Evian became the fifth major. Its a partnership that has flourished since. My player at the time hadnt qualified, so I just offered my services, Rowan recalled. She was a young amateur, they were looking for a caddie. Webb finished ahead of three other South Koreans. Ha-Na Jang and Mi-Jung Hur were tied for third at 9 under, with Na-Yeon Choi in fifth another shot back. Defending champion Suzann Pettersen of Norway was one behind her. Choi birdied 12 and 14, but the U.S. Womens Open champion from 2012 dropped back when she bogeyed the 16th, and Webb was level with Kim with three to play. The shot of the day belonged to Japans Mika Miyazato: a hole in one on the 16th. Meanwhile, Michelle Wie, who pulled out during the first round because of a recurrence of her right index finger injury, won the inaugural Rolex Annika Major award. Named after retired Swedish great Annika Sorenstam, it honours the player with the best overall record in the five majors. Wie won the U.S. Womens Open and finished second at the Kraft Nabisco. Webb looked certain to clinch her 42nd LPGA title with two to play. Kims approach on the 16th almost rolled into the water, leaving her a difficult uphill par putt from the fringe, which she missed as Webb took the lead with a par from 4 feet. Webb missed a long birdie chance on the 17th and was way short, before a par from six feet. But that composure left her on the last, when her second shot went too long. About 30 feet from the pin, Webb chose to chip and almost made an improbable birdie as the ball rolled just past the hole, but then carried on downhill for about 12 feet. I dont know what hit me actually, Webb said. Just probably a rush of adrenaline. Kim punched the air after making her birdie. I was very nervous, she said It didnt show. The shot is definitely very mature, Webb said. I left the foot off the pedal a little bit. But she still had to make it. David Backes Jersey .ca! There is plenty of blame to be shared as a result of the most recent NHL player (Pittsburghs Brooks Orpik) to be evacuated from the ice on a stretcher following an ugly incident Saturday night in Boston. Adam Oates Jersey . -- The taxing preseason, which included two games in China, is finally over. http://www.thebostonbruinshockey.com/derek-sanderson-hockey-jersey/ . On the eve of the 2013-14 NBA season, he can finally take a step back and allow his team to do the talking.St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Wichita State is no longer unbeaten, having fallen prey to a shocking upset. Andrew Harrison converted 3-of-4 foul shots down the stretch and Fred VanVleets contested 3-pointer fell short just prior to the buzzer, allowing Kentucky to reach the Sweet 16 by knocking off the Shockers, 78-76, in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Harrison ended up with 20 points for the Wildcats (26-10), who advance to take on Louisville next Friday in Indianapolis in the Midwest Region semifinals. Aaron Harrison added 19 points, with James Young and Julius Randle contributing 13 apiece for the victors. Cleanthony Early totaled a game-high 31 points for the Shockers (35-1), who set an NCAA record for most wins in one season without suffering a loss, but ultimately failed in their bid to reach the Final Four for the second straight year. Ron Baker converted 4-of-6 shots from long range en route to 20 points, but VanVleet was held to four points on 1-of-6 shooting, including 0-for-4 from beyond the arc. A long two by Early put WSU up 71-70 with 2:16 remaining, but Young countered with a triple from the top of the key and Kentucky took a 73-71 edge on the next possession. A trey from Tekele Cotton then rolled in and out, and Andrew Harrison made two at the line with 42.6 showing for a four-point Wildcats spread. Baker hit a banked three from the left side to bring the Shockers within 75-74, before Randle drained both of his free throws to push his clubs edge back to three. Baker was called upon again from the left wing, but his next long-range attempt fell short. Early, however, was fouled on the offensive board and made two at the line with 9.8 to play for a 77-76 score. Andrew Harrison earned his second chance at the charity stripe, making the first and missing the second. Carl Soderberg Jersey. Early picked up the ball, flew up court and Wichita State called timeout with 3.2 seconds to go. VanVleet let fly from 25 feet away, but the shot was just off the mark, hitting the rim and backboard. Andrew Harrisons triple gave the Wildcats some separation prior to the midway point of the opening 20 minutes at 19-15, but the edge was short lived. Kentucky was forced to call a timeout after a runner from Early made it 30-23. Cotton began the eventual 17-4 surge with the first five, while VanVleet contributed all four of his points -- including two closing free throws -- for a 32-23 spread with 4:37 left in the half. Wichita State went to intermission ahead 37-31 after a triple by Jarrod Polson reduced Kentuckys gap. Earlys three to kick off the second half was countered by 10 in a row from Kentucky, which took a 41-40 lead after Alex Poythress converted a layup. Baker followed with six in a row on a trey and a three-point play and WSU held a 46-43 lead, then the Wildcats struck back for seven straight and Willie Cauley-Steins slam put them up 50-46. Momentum shifted once more, as the Shockers embarked on a 12-5 run ending just after the midway point of the half to take a 58-55 advantage on the second of Earlys back-to-back buckets. Wichita State held Kentucky at arms length until a roller from Young put the Wildcats up 70-69 with 2:49 to play. Game Notes These programs met for the first time on Sunday ... Early shot 12-of-17 from the field and made 4-of-6 shots from distance ... Randle led all players with 10 rebounds and dished out a team-high six assists ... Cotton finished with only five points, five assists and three rebounds in 31 minutes ... Wichita State committed only nine turnovers and forced Kentucky to cough up the ball 11 times. Lost to Los Angeles in first round of playoffs. PHILADELPHIA -- The 76ers fans came to celebrate Allen Iversons No. 3. Trevor Ariza left them talkin about 40. Ariza made eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 40 points to help the Washington Wizards win their sixth straight game, 122-103 over Philadelphia on Saturday night. Ariza made all six 3-point attempts in the first quarter for 24 points and finished 14 of 23 from the floor overall. The 76ers lost their 13th straight game on the night they retired Iversons No. 3. Iverson had his number sent to the rafters, fit between Maurice Cheeks No. 10 and Charles Barkleys No. 34. The Sixers even gave him a boat named, "The Answer." The Sixers enjoyed their first sellout of 20,856 for Iversons triumphant homecoming. The fans, though, saw the same old sorry Sixers. Ariza had his milestone game in front of one of his childhood favourites. "What he brought to the game made me love the game the way I love it," he said. "He was amazing for a lot of years and he definitely changed the culture of the NBA. This was his night and, I guess, thats definitely a thanks for all the things hes done throughout my life and my career. "Just being a fan of his since I was young, its great to be able to perform that way on a big night like that for him." Ariza had plenty of help for a Wizards team making a run in the Eastern Conference. John Wall had 17 points and tied a career high with 16 assists, and Marcin Gortat had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Ariza, averaging 14.3 points, seemed like he would top his career high of 33 in the first 12 minutes. The Sixers were helpless as the 6-foot-8 forward made his 3-point shots with the ease of a pop-a-shot contest. With the building buzzing over Iversons retirement ceremony, Ariza silenced them at stretches with six 3s and 9 of 10 shooting overall, helping the Wizards storm out to a 15-point lead. Wall had the assist on most of those looks and finished the quarter with eight. "What more can you ask than a guy who wants to see you succeed," Ariza said. "I feel like thats what we do here now; we all want to see each other succeed." The fans were mostly distracted by the parade of former greats the Sixers trotted oout for Iversons big night. Doug Gilmour Jersey. They went wild for Julius Erving, Moses Malone, and former team president Pat Croce. But they came for the global superstar who popularized "talkin about practice." The Sixers may as well have turned the arena into an AI museum. Four banners greeted fans at the main concourse entrance, and photos of him were plastered all around the arena. The merchandise stands sold Iverson jerseys for $130, and lower level tickets were going for as much for $1,280 on Stubhub about an hour before the 7:30 p.m. tipoff. The fans loved him, and he blew them kisses after the No. 3 was raised to show how much he loved them back. "I am Philly," Iverson said. "Its always going to be that way." Wall, who had his 22nd double-double, returned to the court at halftime to record Iversons ceremony. "He was my role model and I looked up to him," he said. "Being a small guard, thats where I took a lot of my game from. This city embraced him and let him be who he was as a person. He always gave his best effort. "I always wanted to grow braids like Iverson. The only thing I didnt have was the tattoos." Iversons return injected a rare dose of excitement into a franchise playing some of the worst basketball in the league. The Sixers, in full-blown rebuilding mode, lost their 12th straight home game. The Wizards made some history as well, scoring a Wells Fargo Center record 74 points in the first half and led by 12. Perhaps fueled by Iversons ceremony, the Sixers went on a 9-0 run in the third to trim the gap to 12 points. It just wasnt enough and the Sixers allowed 100-plus points for the 13th straight game. Tony Wroten led the Sixers with 19 points and Thaddeus Young had 17. Coach Brett Brown didnt hesitate when asked if he wondered if the Sixers would win another game. "All the time," he said. Notes: Arizas previous career best was at Houston on Oct. 31, 2009. ... Trevor Booker had 14 points and Bradley Beal 11, giving the Wizards five starters in double figures. ... Ariza also had four steals. ... The Winnipeg Goldeyes first no-hitter in franchise history was a team effort Wednesday night. Ryan OReilly Jersey . Five Goldeyes (13-7) relievers combined to throw a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries in the second game of a doubleheader at Sioux Falls Stadium before 3,268 spectators. "I am going to be smiling for the rest of the night, thats for sure," Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea said on the Jewel 101 post-game show. "They filled up the strike zone. They had a couple walks, but after that they got quick outs." Winnipeg also won the first game 7-1 to sweep the doubleheader and move back into a tie for first place in the North Division. Gabe Aguilar pitched 2 1/3 innings to start the game before handing the ball over to Kaohi Downing, who went 2 2/3 innings hitless innings. From there, Taylor Sewitt pitched a third of an inning, Brendan Lafferty got the last two outs of the sixth inning and first out of the seventh inning and Kyle Bellamy was on the bump for the final two outs of the game. Winnipeg scored a run in the first inning when Tyler Kuhn singled and eventually scored on a Luis Alen double. The Goldeyes added two more runs an inning later, as Casey Haerther and Kuhn had RBI singles. From there, Winnipegs unhittable pitching staff took over. "We just kept on giving the ball to the next guy and they just kept on getting the job done," Vermilyea said. One of the unsung heroes in the no-no was catcher Luis Alen, who caught 14 innings between the two games."Thats tough to do as a catcher," Vermilyea said. "Thats a long day behind the plate. "From the first game, we had a good game play against (Sioux Falls) and he kept throwing down the right fingers."Downing picked up the win, while Bellamy earned the save. Sioux Falls starter Joe Bircher posted a quality start, but suffered the loss. In the first game, Goldeyes starting pitcher Chris Salamida pitched a complete game, allowing just one run in seven innings of work to get the win. It was the first complete game by a Goldeyes pitcher this season and kept the bullpen fresh for the second game. "Sal set (the no-hitter) up by going seven innings and pitching the entire game," said Vermilyea, who pitched a perfect game in Double-A during his playing career. "It allowed us to have our full bullpen." Winnipeg scored once in the first and fourth, twice in the fifth and broke the game open with three runs in the sixth, as Luis Alen singled in a pair of runs and Donnie Webb followed with an RBI single. Webb led Winnipeg at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Salamidas record improved to 2-2 with the win, while Kyle Vazquez took the loss. The Goldeyes will be out to sweep the four-game series tomorrow night. Southpaw Nick Hernandez (0-0, 7.90) will start for Winnipeg against former Goldeye Ben Moore (1-0, 3.62). Jordan Nolan Jersey . OSTRAVA, Czech Republic -- Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek won the doubles for the defending champion Czech Republic to take a 2-1 lead over the Netherlands in the Davis Cup first round on Saturday. Jeff Allen Jersey . The Czechs defeated Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) in almost four hours on an indoor hard court at CEZ Arena to improve to a 15-1 record in the cup doubles. The Dutch were trailing 2-0 in the fourth set before coming back and saving three break points at 5-5 after Haase double-faulted twice but the home pair converted their second match point in the tiebreaker with Haase sending a volley too long. "It was the toughest game we have played," Berdych said. "It was extremely hard for us. They were excellent." It was the first defeat in the cup doubles for Haase and Rojer following four victories. "We had our chances but our opponents were unbelievable," Stepanek said "We had to fight till the end." The Czechs, seeking their third straight Davis Cup title, are one win away from the quarterfinals while the Dutch must win both reverse singles on Sunday to reach the quarters for the first time since 2005. On Sunday, Berdych plays Haase then Stepanek faces Igor Sijsling. The winner of the best-of-five series will face either Canada or Japan in April. Berdych and Stepanek saved five set points in the 10th game of the opening set before they broke Haase, and Stepanek served the set out. The Dutch pair wasted 10 break opportunities in the set. In the second set, Stepanek failed to hold his serve in the fourth game and Berdych double-faulted to do likewise, allowing the Dutch to race to a commanding 5-1 lead. Haase hit an ace on the first set point. Berdych was broken again in the seventh game of the third set when his forehand volley hit the net but the Dutch let the Czechs come back after wasting three set points and Haase failed to serve the set out in the 10th game. The Dutch still forced a tiebreaker after saving three set points. Haase became furious when the Czechs jumped to 4-1 for no clear reason, hitting the net three times with his racket before the Czechs prevailed 7-2 with Berdychs backhand volley winner. Berdych had to be treated for a back problem when trailing 5-4 in the third set but said it was not serious. With Pro Bowlers NaVorro Bowman, Patrick Willis and Ahmad Brooks playing alongside talented pass rusher Aldon Smith on co-ordinator Vic Fangios defence, the Niners version of the fearsome foursome has played a major part in their advancement to the NFC title game on Sunday night in Seattle. Bowman, Willis, Brooks and Smith have combined for seven sacks, one forced fumble and an interception in road playoff wins in Green Bay and Carolina that set up the showdown with the Seahawks with a spot in the Super Bowl on the line. "We just try to stay together and lead this defence," Bowman said. "We all can do special things that a lot of guys cant do in this league. Vics just done a great job drawing up the right plays and what he wants us to do out there. Were blessed to have all four of us on the same page." What makes this unit so effective is how well they work together. Smith and Brooks are elite pass rushers, able to chase down quarterbacks with their speed and overpower blockers with their strength. Willis and Bowman are the do-everything inside backers, who plug holes against the run, blitz when needed and chase running backs and tight ends in coverage. While Willis came into the year as the most decorated of the bunch as a five-time All-Pro and Smith the most feared with 33 1/2 sacks his first two seasons, it is Bowman who has led the group this season when the Niners needed it most. Smith missed five games to receive substance abuse treatment and Willis showed a few signs of slowing down, turning Bowman into the on-field leader of the group. He was named first-team All-Pro for the third straight season and has been mentioned as a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year after recording a career-high five sacks, two interceptions, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. That earned him the ultimate praise from Willis. "I said, Man, youre having the kind of year that linebackers want to have. I knoww youre most certainly having the kind of year that I would love to have," Willis said. Houston Texans Jerseys. "Hes my brother. Im always going to be his biggest fan. Hes my teammate. Im just glad to see him do well. When one of us does well, we all do well. Thats how we think as a team." The crowning moment of Bowmans year came in the regular-season home finale against Atlanta. With the 49ers in danger of losing the final scheduled game at Candlestick Park and having their playoff status put in doubt, Bowman delivered one of the most impressive plays of the season. It started with him blitzing up the middle against Matt Ryan. But after getting the centre to commit, Bowman retreated and was in perfect position when Tramaine Brock broke up a slant pass to Harry Douglas. Bowman grabbed the ball out of the air and ran 89 yards for the touchdown that sealed the 34-24 victory and clinched the playoffs for the Niners. "He just comes up big all the time," defensive lineman Ray McDonald said. "Its paying off for him because hes a hard-working guy, hes always on top of his game." Bowman was at it again in Sundays 23-10 win over Carolina, fighting off two blockers before tackling Cam Newton at the 1 late in the second quarter. After a sack by Brooks and another goal-line stop by Bowman, the Panthers had to settle for a field goal. San Francisco drove for the go-ahead score in the closing seconds of the half and never trailed again. That was the second impressive goal-line stand as Brooks stopped Newton on fourth down from the 1 earlier in the second quarter. Back-to-back sacks by Bowman and Brooks knocked the Panthers out of field goal range in the closing minutes of the third quarter in what proved to be their last chance to stay in the game. Throw in an interception earlier in the game by Willis that set up a field goal, and it was a dominating day. "We take pride on keeping teams out of the end zone," Bowman said. "Theyre going to make big plays, theyre NFL players, too. But if we can hold up at the goal line four downs in a row that lets you know were here to play and its going to be a long day." At a news conference Tuesday where it was thought that the fiery Schallibaum may be shown the door after a dismal finish to the Major League Soccer season, team president Joey Saputo said no decision has been made on whether the Swiss Volcano will be back in 2014.The last day of the Barclays Premier League goes Sunday and the permutations are rather simple. If Manchester City wins or draws against West Ham at the Etihad, they win the title. A draw would mean the league would be decided by goal differential if Liverpool beats Newcastle; a gleeful sight for Manchester United supporters if City were to win both of their two titles based on goal difference. After a frustrating year at Old Trafford, this is all they have. The only way Liverpool are crowned champions is a win Sunday at Anfield combined with a Man City loss. Seems improbable, but not impossible. The dream of ending the title drought since 1990 will most likely carry on another year, along with the pain, anguish and yearning. This is the most compelling storyline heading in to Super Sunday with all eyes on Man City (TSN Radio Network, 10am ET) and Liverpool (TSN) and who will reign supreme. At the bottom of the table, Fulham and Cardiff City have already been relegated. Norwich City is all but relegated, needing a miracle of biblical proportions, facing a 17-goal gap in goal differential. Bye, bye, Canaries. So we will not to be treated to a topsy-turvy day of who stays and who goes from Premier League football. The casual fan is worse off for it not having the drama at the death. Tottenham and Manchester United are the only other teams playing for anything come Sunday. Spurs can wrap up Europa League qualification with a win or a draw at home against Aston Villa. If Spurs lose, a Manchester United win at Southampton would see them qualify for Europe. Europa League is hardly the prize either team envisioned. Again, blasé. An exciting season may be coming to an end in unspectacular fashion, however talking points continue to swirl. Here are this weeks musings: - Hardly Vintage: The 2013/14 season will hardly go down as a vintage Premier League campaign. There were plenty of memorable moments (more on the flash points next week), good and bad, but the prevailing sentiment over the season was sub-par play. The league lacked a true frontrunner and parity was more a product of mediocre play and change, rather than top quality football. The Premier League spends millions in transfers on a bi-annual basis. It can hardly be said teams are paying for value. The Premier League is rich with sponsors and earnings for surpassing any of their contemporaries. The wealth is exposed by lesser lights, with Premier League teams paying out the nose for marginal talent. It makes development that much more important for British clubs, avoiding the pitfalls of fools gold. Its a double-edged sword, as young players failing to get first team opportunity leave for green pastures (Paul Pogba, anyone?) or attempt to catch on elsewhere in a maze lacking identity or true direction. Although the entire ‘B-team model has been approached by cynicism by many in high-ranking positions and influential pundits, alternative opportunity to develop is paramount for competitiveness and business. - Super Sunday: North American professional sports need take notice of the Premier Leagues final day of games. All matches start at 10am et, meaning all-important results cannot be manipulated to the benefit of self or detriment to another. The NBA became a farce down the stretch of its regular season, with teams purposely losing to jockey for position. Professional basketball is not the only culprit. Its understood scheduling decisions are made based upon broadcasting revenue. But for the good of the sport and the fans, integrity must be taken into account. And the excitement of the final day of the Premier League more years than not trumps the spectacle of all others based upon set-up and importance. The drama is unmatched. - Suarez doubts: The pictures of Luis Suarez after Liverpools late collapse in a dramatic 3-3 tie at Selhurst Park will be replayed for ages. Burying his head in his shirt, visibly inconsolable speaks volumes. There is no doubt Suarez loves Liverpool. And Champions League football next season brings the assumption he will remain at Anfield. But thats all it is - an assumption. If Real Madrid comes calling, which continues to be rumoured, will Suarez be able to resist? And is the Uruguayan to be trusted by anything he says? This was a player who cast a line and was headed to Arsenal before the season. Hes a player suspended twice for biting and once for racist gestures. His actions on and off the field dont speak of a reliable, stable, predictable player. There is a lot to like about Suarez. Manchester Citys Yaya Toure and the Liverpool striker have been a cut above on the season. Liverpool need be wary heading into the summer, bringing in requisite players to compete in Europe, also keeping in mind cover for Suarez may be needed. Its a big summer ahead for Brendan Rodgers making sure he makes the right moves so his team doesnt regress after this ultimately successful campaign. Suarez is a big part of that. And if he goes, question marks will remain above the sustainability of success at Liverpool in an ultimately competitive Premier League. - Poor Stevie G: Contrary to belief, Liverpools title chances ddidnt go out the window after Mondays draw; it came through Steven Gerrards infamous ‘slip-up leading to the game winning goal in a 2-0 home loss to an weakened Chelsea. Custom Belgium Jerseys. Its incredible a player as decorated as Gerrard may end his career without a Premier League title. Hes been one of the top midfielders of his generation, yet hasnt been able to inspire his team to consistent greatness aside from that one night in Istanbul. This doesnt fall solely on Gerrards shoulders. And his loyalty to Liverpool is one that should be applauded. The riches of Chelsea tempted him, yet he remained on the Merseyside. Seeing Gerrard ‘rally the troops in his now infamous team huddle with the title in his sights, paired with his ‘slip against Chelsea makes for an undeserving snippet of how harsh the game truly his. As his career fades into memories, how will he be remembered? The last month provides material he, perhaps, would want stricken from the record. - Citys Dynamic Duo: Manchester City has a roster among the best money can buy. Yaya Toure is the pulse and Vincent Kompany, despite some hiccups this season, remains the anchor at the back. But its hard to see City having the success they have without right back Pablo Zabaleta and attacking midfielder David Silva; in my opinion, the best two at their respective positions in the Premier League. On Wednesday, in a game Aston Villa proved a difficult team to breakdown, it was Zabaleta and Silva with top rate passing and movement that broke Villa down leading to the first two goals. It must be appreciated how these two see the game and can provide a variance in attack. In a Premier League predicated on speed and strength, the Argentine and Spaniard bring elements of intelligence and understanding seldom properly utilized. Their respective importance to team success cannot be understated. - Mourinhos self-fulfilling prophecy: Looking back on Jose Mourinhos first season back at Chelsea, its hard not to wonder what could have been. The Portuguese tactician was clear throughout the year his team was an underdog in the title race - the ‘little horse, if you will. It was hard to buy it back when he started spewing the nonsense and it makes little sense now. It may have not been a squad Mourinho was entirely comfortable with. And the group will continue to be cut in the mold to what Mourinho desires. Money is no object, but the past season cannot be deemed a success. He wasnt managing a team of lesser lights. The squad was as good as any in the league, but losses to Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Sunderland in the last two months were the fatal blow. It must be asked whether Mourinhos open pessimism about his team played a role in the team psyche. When you repeatedly downplay your teams chances, it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. A more positive Mourinho doesnt mean less realistic. When he sits back and reflects on the season that was, he should rue the outcome as a year of what could have been, rather than what was. - Wenger success?: Arsenal finishes fourth place in the league - another successful year for the club? That seems to be the mentality at Arsenal and its backwards, but lifting the FA Cup in just over a week from now would soften the blow. The lack of silverware over the last decade is astonishing for a marquee club. Wenger will blame injuries and anything else he can grasp hold of. Its all nonsense. Arsenals positive start masked continual holes in this team. A striker and a goalkeeper remain atop the checklist at Arsenal and further squad upgrades are essential. Arsenals policy of fiscal restraint and development of unknown commodities is a honourable one and Champions League football is great to keep the wheel spinning, but at some point, it must be decided whether fourth place constitutes a victory because at present time it is accepted as good enough...which is really isnt. - Giggss future: With Louis van Gaal seeming like Manchester Uniteds manager of the future, the debate continues to swirl about a role for Ryan Giggs. The Welshman is a club legend and that will never change. The insistence he remains part of the new United backroom staff is a romantic one, but it may be flawed. Uniteds links to their past are never really far away, but now, were speaking of a new-look United, in need of turning the page, moving on to the next chapter. If van Gaal wants to bring Danny Blind, Patrick Kluivert or whomever he wants to fill out important assistant roles, then so it shall be. Holding Giggs over his head would be a mistake. The class of 92 brought incredible success to the team. They, along with a solid group of veteran leadership, were be able to become the most successful team in English football and it wasnt even close. Sir Alex Ferguson steered that ship. If van Gaal is to do his job properly, he needs full autonomy. If he doesnt have it, who knows what kind of mish-mashed vision will come of it and a mish-mash of results will predictably follow. It may sound harsh, even unfair, but Giggs may have to go for the restructure to properly take place. If youre going to hand over the keys to van Gaal, then do it. No restrictions. OWINGS MILLS, Md. Starling Marte Jersey . - Heading into the off-season sooner than anticipated, Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh took consolation in knowing he got the most out of his team and that it wont take much tinkering to correct its most obvious flaws.Despite a myriad of injuries, the hoopla surrounding the release of running back Ray Rice and the suspension of defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, the Ravens earned a spot in the post-season for the sixth time in seven years and beat Pittsburgh in the wild-card round before falling to top-seed New England 35-31 on Saturday night. They were the best team that they could be, though all the adversity, the challenges and even through the last game, Harbaugh said Tuesday. Im proud of those guys for that. Thats the best thing you can say about a group of guys, the coaches and the players.Harbaugh wont forget this bunch, but hes already turned his attention toward next season. Upcoming decisions for the franchise include whether to re-sign unrestricted free agents Torrey Smith and Justin Forsett, which direction to go in the draft and how deep to delve into the free agent market. The secondary was the teams most glaring flaw, but because six defensive backs ended the season on injured reserve, Harbaugh believes even that unit can improve without much help from the outside. Its really not an overhaul in the sense that everybodys going to be cleaned out and were going to bring a bunch of new guys in, he said. We have a lot of good players sitting there because of the fact that well be healthy and the fact that we brought some good players in because of what happened this year. The Ravens got solid contributions from rookies on both sides of the line, including Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley; defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan; offensive tackles James Hurst and John Urschel; and tight end Crockett Gillmore.Thats one reason why Harbaugh was upbeat about the future. Its pretty clear-cut some areas that we have to improve on, he said. But we have a solid foundation of a football team right now, young guys who have turned out to be good players. We have a number of good players going forward that are going to be here and we can build on that. Thats very exciting. He was particularly enthusiastic about the offensive front, which flourished despite injuries to Eugene Monroe and Rick Wagner.I think the future is really great for our offensive line, Harbaugh said. When we first came in here in 2008 we said wed start in the trenches, and we were pretty strong in the trenches this year. Thats the foundation of our team. We want to keep improving that and keep building on that. Weve got some really young players on both sides of the ball up front.Decisions on Smith (49 catches, 767 yards, 11 TDs) and Forsett (1,266 yards rushing) will be made during an organizational meeting in Florida later this month. But Harbaugh made it clear that he wants both of them back.I love Torrey. Hes been a huge part of what weve done since he got here, great for the community and all those things, made a ton of plays for us, Harbaugh said.Forsett made the loss of Rice less of an issue on the field by having the best season of his career.Well just have to see how that plays out, Harbaugh said. But I know one thing: If we can get him back, that would make our team stronger going into next year.Forsett is all for it.I would love to be a part of it, he said. This is an organization that first gave me my shot, my first real opportunity, and I would love to stay. The coaching staff should be intact in 2015, although Harbaugh acknowledged that secondary coach Steve Spagnuolo would be interviewing with the New York Giants about their defensive co-ordinator opening.Ravens offensive co-ordinator Gary Kubiak told the team he intends to return, and Harbaugh had no reason to believe that the head coaching vacancy in Denver would change Kubiaks mind.Hes very happy here. His family is happy here, Harbaugh said. I think all the coaches feel good about where theyre at right now. As far as I know, nothing has changed.Harbaugh can only hope his players improve their behaviour this off-season. Five were arrested before training camp started last year, and Harbaugh does not want a repeat performance.Everybodys going to be under a different type of scrutiny from here on out, and thats a good thing, he said. Its real, its serious, and they need to be aware of that.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Kent Tekulve Jersey . HEROES St. Louis Blues – After rolling the San Jose Sharks for seven goals, for the second time in a week, the Blues have a bunch of players on hot streaks. LONDON -- The Premier Leagues most unpredictable title race produced another surprise on Saturday as Chelsea lost at Crystal Palace for the first time since 1990. Despite the 1-0 collapse after Chelsea captain John Terry headed Joel Wards cross into his own goal at the start of the second half, Jose Mourinhos side remains top as Manchester City was held to a 1-1 draw at Arsenal. "We depend too much on other results," Mourinho said, writing off his teams title prospect. "When you depend a little its possible, when you depend a lot, I dont think its possible. "We depend now too much. I dont think now we can win the league." Liverpool, perhaps? Brendan Rodgers side is a point behind Chelsea and will go top with a victory over Tottenham on Sunday. The points tally, though, is deceptive. Although City is third and two points behind Chelsea, the 2012 champions have two games in hand. The one certainty is the defending champions wont be keeping hold of the trophy, with Manchester United still in seventh despite by coming from behind to beat Aston Villa 4-1. Southampton, a place behind United but six points adrift, produced a resounding 4-0 victory over Newcastle. In a meeting of relegation-threatened teams, both West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff scored in stoppage time as they drew 3-3. Stokes impressive form continued with Peter Odemwingie clinching a 1-0 victory over Hull, the teams fourth success in five matches. Swansea climbed above Hull into 13th by ending a six-game winless run in the league. Jonathan de Guzmans clinical double and Wayne Routledges goal produced a 3-0 victory over fellow struggler Norwich. In the trophy chase, Arsenals concern will be its return of two points from its last three games -- even if the spirited fighht back against City offered hope for the title run-in. Sean Rodriguez Jersey. With Arsenal still reeling from a demoralizing 6-0 loss at Chelsea last weekend, David Silva completed a counter-attack to put City in front in the 18th minute. But conceding early made Arsenal more assertive and Mathieu Flamini turned Lukas Podolskis cross into the net to level eight minutes into the second half. At Old Trafford, the start of the game had fans looking to the sky when a much-publicized plane flew overhead with a banner emblazoned with "Wrong One - Moyes Out." Just one person, who said he is a United fan, has claimed responsibility for the stunt with no supporters groups backing the protest. "The support inside Old Trafford has been terrific and if ever there was a show of support for their football club and for their team, it was today," Moyes said. But supporters faith in Moyes was tested when Ashley Westwood put Aston Villa in front in the 13th minute by sending a free kick dipping into the net. Villas lead only lasted seven minutes before Rooney sent a header from Shinji Kagawas cross into the net. And after Leandro Bacuna fouled Juan Mata, Rooney put United in front from the penalty spot before half time. The lead was extended in the 57th when Juan Mata scored his first United goal since joining from Chelsea in January for 37.1 million pounds (then $61 million), and substitute Javier Hernandez wrapped up the victory in stoppage time. On the south-coast, Southamptons victory will have offered England coach Roy Hodgson some encouragement for the World Cup -- with three different English scores. Jay Rodriguez put Southampton in front just before half time and netted the fourth in the 89th after Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana scored. TORONTO -- Toronto FC fans have likely seen the last of goalkeeper Julio Cesar. Mitch Morse Jersey . The Brazil No. 1 is headed to the World Cup and says Englands Queens Park Rangers want him back afterwards. QPRs loan deal with Toronto called for the 34-year-old Brazilian to stay with the MLS side through December but Toronto manager Ryan Nelsen says there is a "gentlemans agreement" that the English team can have him back sooner. Cesar, while confirming QPR wants him back in August, is unsure of where his future lies. "Im contracted still in England for a few more years," he said through an interpreter Tuesday in his final meeting with the Toronto media before leaving to join the Brazilian World Cup team. "Im contracted to return in August after the World Cup but I really dont know what the future holds after the World Cup so I cant give you a clear answer as to my fate after the tournament." Asked if he thought his time in Toronto was over, Cesar switched to English: "I dont know. Depends (what happens) after the World Cup." The Cesar move to Toronto was always a marriage of convenience, with a short time frame. QPR, relegated to the second-tier Championship, wanted to reduce its salary obligations and Cesar was a prime target, with weekly wages pegged at between 70,000 and 100,000 pounds (C$128,500 and $183,500). Manager Harry Redknapp, who inherited Cesar from Mark Hughes, made former England keeper Rob Green his No. 1 so Cesar needed a place to play to hold down his Brazil job. There were reported links to Italys Napoli and Brazils Gremio, but Nelsen, who is close to Cesars agent and knew the player from his own days at QPR, convinced him to come to Toronto. For TFC, the loan was like a fourth designated player. And Nelsen knew that Cesars influence on 25-year-old goalie Joe Bendik would last long after the Brazilian had departed. QPR meets Derby County in the Championship playoff final at Wembley this weekend with the winner moving up into the Premier League. But it seems unlikely that Cesar will finish out his contract in a QPR jersey whatever happens on the weekend. The English team, taking advantage of what hopefully will be a World Cup showcase in Brazil, is more likely to try to sell him and recoup some of its investment. MLS would be unlikely to take on the cost of Cesars contract and QPR would no doubt want more than it is likely getting under the current loan deal. Bendik, last years No. 1 in Toronto, will take over in goal for Toronto, either for the short-term or long. He has played the last three games for Toronto, two in the Amway Canadian Championship and in Saturdays 2-0 league win over the New York Red Bulls. Cesar missed the weekend game with the flu. Nelsen, while keeping the door open, says hes "not sure" that Cesar will be back after the World Cup. "Julios been absolutely fantastic here and if he decides to stay, brilliant. But if he decides to move on and QPR decides to move on, then Toronto will move on -- having had a great experience of Julio with us." Privately, the club does not expect him back. Cesar played seven MLS games for Toronto this season going 3-4. With just nine goals conceded in eight league games, defence has been solid at Toronto. The offence has produced just nine goals, with Englands Jermain Defoe accounting for four. Speaking through an interpreter, Cesar said his time in Toronto has prepared him well for the World Cup. "I feel like Im a better person being here after three months and experiencing what the club has had to offer me and getting me ready for the World Cup," he said. Cesar says retirement after the World Cup is not in the cards. "Im still under contract for the next two years. So even if I win the World Cup, Im going to keep to my word, Im going to return to my club (QPR) and help them win championships. Thats what I was contracted to do, so thats what Im going to do." QPR could also read that as "Im going to collect what Im due." The veteran Brazilian has already won five Italian titles, seven Italian cups, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. He was named Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year twice and nominated for the Ballon dOr award in 2009. He has been a class act in Toronto, winning praise from coaches and teammates alike for his ability as a player and easy-going personality. "Its just a pleasure to have a man like that on the team," Nelsen said of Cesar. Bendik, who started the season as a backup to the Brazilian despite signing a new, enriched deal after winning the No. 1 job last year, has credited Cesar for making him a better goalie and calls him a friend. In other team news, Nelsen has injury concerns with Brazils Jackson (concussion) and fellow midfielder Jonathan Osorio (hamstring and hairline fracture in his hand). Jackson has yet to resume training and Osorio, who is due for a scan on his hamstring, seems doubtful for Friday nights game in Kansas City. Nelsen said the Canadian international may have come back too soon from a previous hamstring injury, which extended his absence from the lineup. "We have to be a bit careful with him," said Nelsen. Patrick Mahomes II Jersey . In mens doubles, Vancouvers Vasek Pospisil and American Jack Sock reached the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-4 win over Croatian Mate Pavic and Andre Sa of Brazil. Tyreek Hill Jersey . The San Angelo, Texas product, who was a high school and college quarterback sensation in the Lone Star State, will start his first CFL game with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (9-4) on Friday at Mosaic Stadium against the leagues top team, the Calgary Stampeders (11-2). http://www.thechiefsshoponline.com/Youth-Tony-Gonzalez-Chiefs-Jersey/ . "It was awesome," he said. Coming off an ugly three-game sweep at the hands of the Yankees, Toronto found itself in a deep hole early after the Reds put an eight spot up on starter Liam Hendriks (six runs in 1 2/3 innings pitched) and Todd Redmond in the second.UTICA, N.Y. - Joe Cannata stopped 37 shots and the Utica Comets scored twice in 1:51 in the third period to come from behind and defeat the visiting Toronto Marlies 3-2 on Friday in American Hockey League action. Pascal Pelletier tied the game at two for the Comets (34-32-9) at 2:21 of the third and Cal ORielly added the eventual winner at 4:12. Bryan Witzmann Jersey. Yann Sauve scored in the second period for Utica. Josh Leivo and Brad Staubitz scored for the Marlies (44-25-6) while Christopher Gibson made 28 saves in defeat. Utica went 0 for 1 on the power play while Toronto failed to score on two chances with the man advantage. Off-Season Game Plan looks at a Ducks team that set a franchise record with 116 points in 2013-2014 and is forcing its way into the discussion of Western Conference contenders. This isnt to say that its a sure thing that the Ducks will join the best of the West, because as good as they were last season, they were a middle-of-the-road possession team that was far ahead of the rest of the league in shooting percentage when the score was close. Even if the Ducks are an above-average finishing team -- a justifiable position to take -- there is above average and there is 25% ahead of the second-best team. The reason for optimism is based on the Ducks having elite cornerstone pieces in centre Ryan Getzlaf and right winger Corey Perry, but (particularly with Teemu Selanne retiring and possibility of Saku Koivu moving on), the supporting cast is mostly young and should be getting better. Its the Ducks depth of prospects and young NHL talent that makes them an interesting team to watch this summer. They have easily the assets to deal if they want to get in on the trade talks for Ryan Kesler, Jason Spezza or any other top-six forward that might be out there. They have the cap room if they are inclined to seek answers in free agency. There are some challenges ahead, because its not going to be easy to catch up to the Los Angeles Kings and Chicago Blackhawks, but the Ducks have a roster that could get better and thats saying something coming off a 116-point season. Generally, a replacement-level player is around a 60, a top six forward and top four defenceman will be around 70, stars will be over 80 and MVP candidates could go over 90. One is Alex Ovechkin, the other is Ryan Getzlaf. His size makes him very difficult to handle down low in the offensive zone and he also happens to be one of the top playmakers in the game. Over the past four seasons, only Steven Stamkos and Ovechkin have scored more goals than Corey Perry. Over the past seven seasons, Perry is the only player with at least 200 goals and 500 penalty minutes. Hes a unique character in the game, who gets under the skin of opponents, yet is simultaneously one of the premier goal-scorers. After several seasons battling to earn a regular spot in the Nick Bonino broke through, not only as a regular, scoring a career-high 49 points, but he was also a force on the Ducks power play, which was rather cost-effective production and Bonino is inked for three more years. Andrew Cogliano hasnt missed a game in seven years in the league and, last season, finished with a career-high 22 goals, the first season in which hes scored more than 40 points since his rookie year of 2007-2008. Cogliano was the only player in the league to have more than 35 points without at least one points on the power play -- he does his damage at even strength (and shorthanded). While Coglianos possession stats werent good, he did face the highest quality of competition in his career, so that would affect those numbers. A stocky, physical winger, Matt Beleskey continues to battle for regular playing time and injuries cost him 25 games last season, but he also spent time skating with Getzlaf and Perry, scoring a career-high 24 points in 55 games. Beleskey does have some versatility in that, if hes not in a complementary role on a scoring line, he can still fit in a third or fourth-line role. In his first NHL season, Patrick Maroon worked his way into a prominent role and was one of the few players who was an active scrapper and also productive. He finished the regular season with 15 points (6 G, 9 A) in the last 18 games, and if the 26-year-old can build on that, hes a remarkable bargain for another season. Kyle Palmieri is another of the Ducks young forwards who is productive despite limited playing time. He barely plays a dozen minutes a night but, over the past two seasons, only Corey Perry has been a better 5-on-5 scorer among Ducks forwards. A part-time enforcer, Tim Jackman plays in a protected role, but has managed to survive in possession terms. So long as the Ducks are going to have a seven-minute-per-game forward, might as well be one that can play a little. Mathieu Perreault played a career-high 13:52 per game last season, setting career-highs for goals (1, assists (25) and points (43). Hes tiny by NHL standards, but the 26-year-olds scoring efficiency makes him a nice fit in a complementary role. Picked up from Ottawa, as part of the Bobby Ryan, Jakob Silverberg battled through some injuries and was moved all around the Ducks lineup, but hes generated enough shots on goal in his first two seasons to be optimistic about his chances to produce offensively. The Ducks have some room to improve, with lots of young and inexpensive forwards competing for playoff time and veterans like Teemu Selanne and possibly Saku Koivu moving on, there will be room to make some additions. Trading for a centre like Ryan Kesler and seeking out a veteran scoring winger could give the Ducks an even deeper and more talented forward group. Hes an effective puck-mover who has 116 points through his age 22 season; only three defencemen (Erik Karlsson, Drew Doughty, Dion Phaneuf) since 2000-2001 have more points by the age of 22, so Fowler has lots of promise, but also needs to continue on his upward trajectory. Rare is the rookie defenceman that has matched the feat of Hampus Lindholm last season, as Lindholm had 30 points and was plus-29 in his first NHL season. The last defenceman, aged 20 or under, to have at least 25 points and a plus-25 rating was Andrej Meszaros in 2005-2006. He stepped into the lineup, played more than 19 minutes per game from the get-go, and was impressive throughout, his 26 even-strength points was tied for 15th among defencemen. Playing a career-high 19:24 per game, Ben Lovejoy was tasked with skating in a shutdown role for the Ducks and while that may have been a tad aggressive, hes a reasonably-priced option if he can merely play a regular role in the top six. A year after he finished fourth in the Norris Trophy voting, Francois Beauchemin wasnt nearly as solid in relative puck possession terms, yet no defenceman can match Beauchemins plus-45 rating over the past two seasons. He has played more than 23 minutes per game for eight straight seasons, but last years 23:06 per game represented a career-low for Beauchemin, perhaps a nod to a 34-year-old whose minutes can be allocated more judiciously than in previous seasons. Ankle and hand injuries contributed to Luca Sbisa playing only 30 games last season, and while the 24-year-old has yet to have a positive possession season, he was closer to break-even in his limited role last season. Veteran stay-at-home defender Bryan Allen has gone 128 games without a goal, but hes typically done a reasonable job suppressing the quality of shots against and he was reasonably effective in a reduced role -- his 17:33 average time on ice per game was his lowest since 2003-2004. On an even longer goalless drought than Allen, Mark Fistric has gone 153 games since scoring in back-to-back games late in 2010. He plays a physical, no-frills, game and is cast as a seventh defenceman, spotting into the lineup for 15 minutes a night when needed. Somehow, that earned Fistric a three-year contract, which might indicate some motivation to have him take a regular turn on the blueline. After Sheldon Souray missed the entire 2013-2014 season due to wrist surgery, who knows whether or not he can return to action and be effective? Prior to his most recent injury, Souray had been playing relatively tough minutes and generating positive relative possession numbers. Undersized defenceman Sami Vatanen was the Ducks best puck possession defenceman when he was deemed to be worthy of a spot in the lineup. Hes mobile, with puck skills to run the point on the power play and ought to play a regular role next season. The Ducks have depth on the blueline and their young defencemen have the potential to be very good. Combined with the veterans in-house, they may not need to make dramatic improvements. Rather, they can let internal improvement carry the position. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old is promising, a potential starter, though hes likely to face competition for that role from top prospect John Gibson. The possibility of going with a pair of inexperienced goaltenders gives the Ducks increased flexibility to address needs elsewhere in the lineup and they can do so with expectations of having at least average -- if not better -- goaltending performance. Understandably, the 20-year-old, who was a second-round pick in 2011, is going to be part of the Ducks goaltending plans next season. A first-round pick last summer, Shea Theodore continued to improve in the WHL last season, before getting a late-season audition in the AHL. He turns 19 this summer, so theres no rush for Theodore, but hes a good building block for the future. Drafted in the second round in 2012, Nicolas Kerdiles had 71 points in 60 games over two seasons at Wisconsin and jumped to the AHL late in the year, putting up eight points in 16 (regular season plus playoff) games. The 29th pick in the 2010 Draft, Emerson Etem has 21 points, with subpar possession stats, in 67 career NHL games, but his production in the AHL last season should have Etem -- a speedy winger who can score -- knocking on the door for an NHL job. Picked in the second round in 2010, Devante Smith-Pelly has 23 points in 75 career NHL games, but earned a prominent power forward role with the Ducks in the playoffs, playing with Getzlaf and Perry at times. Smith-Pelly should be looking at a regular role next season. The 30th pick in 2011, Rickard Rakell is a skilled two-way centre who held his own in 18 games with the Ducks last season. A second-round pick in 2011, William Karlsson made the move to North America following his season in Sweden, picking up 12 points in 17 (regular season plus playoff) games. There is a lot of competition among quality prospects for spots with the big club. Acquired as part of the Bobby Ryan trade last summer, Stefan Noesen tore his ACL in his second game of the season, making it back in time to produce four points in four AHL playoff games. The 21-year-old could use a season of development to make up for his lost year. Picked in the second round last summer, Nick Sorensen is a talented Danish-born scorer who has 136 points in 111 (regular season plus playoff) games in the QMJHL. Taken in the fourth round in 2012, Kevin Roy is on the small side, but hes been very productive at Northeastern, scoring 80 points in 56 games through two collegiate seasons. Hes behind the young goaltenders at the top of the organizational depth chart, but 23-year-old Igor Bobkov is worth watching. He had a solid year between the ECHL and AHL and figures to get regular AHL time next season. Andy Welinski was a third-round pick in 2011, and has been a decent puck-moving defenceman at Minnesota-Duluth the last couple years. ALLEN PARK, Mich. Mikhail Sergachev Jersey . -- Ndamukong Suh was back with his teammates at practice, and he was almost done talking to reporters when he made an odd reference to the beginning of his career with the Detroit Lions. Suh says he could have played elsewhere when he entered the league. The Lions took him with the second overall pick in the 2010 draft. "Probably a lot of you guys dont know, I could have gone elsewhere when I was drafted. I had that decision in my hands," Suh said. "I chose not to take it, because thats just the way I saw it." Suh was responding to a question about whether he wants to stay with Detroit long term -- his point was that his decision to play for the Lions in the first place was evidence of his commitment. But he did not elaborate much when asked how, exactly, he might have ended up elsewhere four years ago. "Theres many ways to do things," Suh said. "You can drop down in the draft, you can move up in the draft. People can come get you. Theres a lot of things that happen that you guys dont know. ... It is for sure my choice, but like I said, thats water under the bridge, Im here in Detroit. Im happy to be here in Detroit, and Im going to continue to play my heart out, as Ive always done." Suh is entering the last season of his contract, so his future with the Lions is unclear. He skipped the teams voluntary minicamp last month, but hes stayed away from voluntary workouts before in his career. He is taking part in organized team activities now, and was at practice Wednesday. The two-time All-Pro has always gotten himself physically ready to play. "This is the same time I came last year," Suh said. "Ive been in a great program, one thats dialed in exactly to me and whats best for my body, to have longevity, which has been proven. I havent missed many games, if any at all. So thats what I do. I stayed close to that program." Suh said his absence had nothing to do with contract talks. "If it was about my contract, I wouldnt be here now," he said. Suh says hes not putting a timetable on his contract negotiations. Suh said he was probably one of the first players on the team to meet with members of Detroits new coaching staff. The Lions fired Jim Schwartz and replaced him with Jim Caldwell after last season. And Suh isnt buying the idea that his absence during the off-season affects his ability to be a leader. Suh became a captain last season. "Last year I came in at the same exact time," Suh said. "I showed that I was worthy of wearing a C at that point in time." As for Caldwell, he seemed happy to move on from the constant questions about whether Suh would be participating in the teams off-season work. "He looks good, obviously. Hes in very fine shape, as always," Caldwell said. "Hes one of those guys -- he knows how to take care of his body. Hes certainly done a great job with that, and hes fit and excited about being here." Indeed, Suh looked ready to practice Wednesday, at one point knocking two blockers back almost into the quarterback during a drill. "Hes back and hes in full swing, and doing everything above and beyond," centre Dominic Raiola said. "I dont know if you guys watched practice close, but you can see him doing extra steps, taking extra conditioning measures, finishing down the field 40 yards. We see all that. If I see all that, I know everybody else sees all that." NOTES: Caldwell said WR Golden Tate was absent because he was with the Seattle Seahawks for their presidential visit. Tate played for the Super Bowl-winning Seahawks last season. Dominik Masin Jersey . Another thrilling season in the Vitality Netball Superleague came to a close on Saturday after Surrey Storm retained their title with a 55-53 win over Manchester Thunder in the Grand Final. But netball matches are not just won on the practice court and top players and coaches have revealed the mental characteristics which are needed at any level... Ama Agbeze, England captain and Loughborough Lightning Belief. You only get belief from actually doing the work beforehand. Then youll have confidence in yourself. But you cannot have that belief in something if youre not putting in the work. It gives you that drive to succeed. You can have the same level of skill, the same level of fitness, but mentally it can be so different. Rather than go into a game on a level playing field, if youre mentally stronger than the other team, you have got that edge over them - and that can be the difference. If youre under pressure, its very much a mental game, and its who can control your mind to execute the things you need to at that stage.Natalie Haythornthwaite, England and Manchester Thunder Hard working ethic. Especially for a young player, the amount of training that we do as young players - you have to put in the hard work.If you work hard in training then it really pays off on court. Laura Malcolm is a great example of it - she works so hard in training and will take that out onto the court.I had to work a lot of hours, a lot of extra sessions, a lot of travelling and that all comes into it. If you are willing to commit to those things then it will pay off for you. A hard working ethic can really get you far.Dan Ryan, Head Coach for Manchester Thunder Creativity. I think netball is a pretty simple game, its straightforward. But if you want to get to the next level, then I think its important to be a forward thinker and creative when you play the game.I would say creativity is very important for a young player. Layla Guscoth, Hertfordshire Mavericks captain Determination. I think youve got to continually be able to strive for your best performance and the best for your team, regardless of the circumstance or results and so on. Especially in a season like this, where games are fast and furious.Youve just got to have that motivation and determination to excel and do your best in any environment. Even when you have reached that goal of playing in the Superleague, there is more and more you can always give, so youve got to always be determined to push yourself on. Tamsin Greenway, England U21 Head coach, Director of Netball for Surrey Storm Confidence. Finals are where you make or break players and someone has to be the hero. I told the players beforehand thatt they had that stage to go and show off what they can do, and be that player. Steven Stamkos Jersey. Why not believe youre the best player on the pitch and be proud to be that player? Tamsin Greenway That sometimes gets overlooked. You talk about belief, you talk about determination, but there is a lot to be said about a team or a player that will go out with confidence and someone who completely believes in what theyre doing. You can actually show a bit of arrogance, cockiness, spark which sometimes goes missing in womens sport. Highlights from the Vitality Netball Superleague Grand Final as Surrey Storm defeated Manchester Thunder For me, that confidence is huge. Why not believe youre the best player on the pitch and be proud to be that player? Dont be ashamed of it, be proud to be that person who says, yeah Im the best and Im going to do this. Sometimes as women, we dont want to say that. Tuaine Keenan, Team Northumbria Being competitive. When I was younger, I was always really competitive and that was a thing that drove me. Being competitive and having that passion is always going to stand you in good stead, because you want to train and want to get better. If youre competitive, you love the game so much, rather than doing it for the sake of it.If the game seems to be drifting away, then that competitive spirit keeps you in it. Kadeen Corbin, England and Loughborough Lightning Passion. If youre really passionate about the game, youll always put your best foot forward. Whatever position youre put in, thats the passion you have to get the turnovers, to get the shots in, and pass the ball to your team-mates.Thats the passion you need to have for the game, and the drive you need to succeed. If youve got that passion then youre always be there at training and youll be a real team player. (SportsNetwork. Noah Juulsen Jersey .com) - Colorado may be ahead of the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference standings, but they are a club that the Avalanche may want to avoid in the playoffs. The Canucks, though, are no lock to reach the postseason and they will continue their push for a wild card spot on Thursday night versus the Avs. Vancouver is four points back of Phoenix for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference and has played one more game than the Coyotes, who visit the New Jersey Devils tonight. The Dallas Stars also are one point ahead of the Canucks in the standings and have played two fewer games than Vancouver. That gives the Canucks an uphill battle in reaching the postseason and the squad has responded with its longest winning streak since late December. That includes last nights 5-2 triumph over the Minnesota Wild. David Booth scored twice in the win and Eddie Lack made 29 saves as the Canucks have claimed three straight victories for the first time since Dec. 20-29. Another win tonight would give Vancouver its longest string of victories since a season-best seven-game run from Dec. 1-14. "Were breathing. Thats the most important thing and we found a way tonight," said Canucks head coach John Tortorella. Daniel Sedin, Ryan Kesler and Zack Kassian all added goals for a Vancouver squad that was without captain Henrik Sedin due to a left knee injury suffered in Sundays win against the Buffalo Sabres. He is day-to-day and did not travel with the club for its quick two-game road trip that ends tonight. It is unknown if Lack will get another start tonight or if backup Jacob Markstrom will get the call. Neither has ever faced the Avalanche and Markstrom has made just one appearance in relief since coming over in the trade that sent Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers. Whoever gets the call will try to extend the Canucks recent string of success over the Avalanche. Vancouver picked up a 3-1 victory over Colorado at home on Dec. 8 and has won 11 of 12 as well as 19 of the previous 22 encounters. The Canucks also have won 10 of their last 13 trips to Colorado, though they did have a four-game series road win streak snapped in the most recent meeting there on April 13 of last season. The Avs are rolling towards a playoff spot as they own a nine-point edge over the fourth-place Wild in the Central Division and are also a mere three points back of the Chicago Blackhawks for second. Colorado did bring a three-game winless stretch (0-2-1) into Tuesday nights meeting with the Nashville Predators and escaped with a 5-4 shootout victory on the road despite never leading in regulation. Gabriel Landeskog scored twice in regulation and had the deciding shootout tally, while Cody McLeod and Nick Holden both scored to erase third-period deficits. "What I like about our group is we were resilient even if we were not playing our best game," said Colorado head coach Patrick Roy. Semyon Varlamov made 29 saves as Colorado reached 45 wins in a season for the first time since 2001-02. The Avs won a franchise-best 52 victories the previous season en route to a Stanley Cup title. Varlamov will start tonight and is seeking his first career win versus the Canucks, having gone 0-7-1 with a 2.80 goals against average in previous meetings. Dickie Moore Jersey . I am speaking in reference to the city of Ottawa being back in the CFL and the Redblacks in the East. It was approximately two ago years the announcement was made and it looks like all is ready and the plan is active. This will be a challenge on a number of levels. The first is creating a winning football team. Second is creating a home field, stadium feel that pulls people to a game as much as a winning team. When I was young, now many years ago, I went to Exhibition Stadium to see the Argonauts play and Ivor Wynne Stadium to see the Tiger-Cats play as much to be a part of the atmosphere as to see the team win. I liked the crowd, the hot dogs, and the halftime marching band as much as anything on the field. And back in those youthful days it was rough. There were certain sections in both stadiums that if you were looking for trouble, all you had to do was walk through with an attitude and you would be confronted. Yet even with that "fear factor", I loved going to the games. It was an event and an experience. If Ottawa can have success on two levels, a competitive team and empowering atmosphere, this can and will be a success, but you do need both. For those who have never been, Ottawa is a great place. A simple description but accurate, as the city and surrounding area has everything you need. It isnt what I would call an elite athletic mecca of football enthusiasm. It is no Regina, but as far as attracting free agents, Ottawa as a city is as affluent as any in Canada. I am sure that is one of the attractions of the Ottawa ownership group led by Jeff Hunt in that they do have the surrounding environment to progress and grow. And there is no comparison between previous ownership groups and the five main people presently involved, which means everything when times get tough and they always do. The single biggest challenge for Ottawa will be quality depth. Over the course of 18 games the season becomes a battle of physical heath, or maintaining physical heath. I think Ottawa will be able to find 24 good CFL starters but what happens when the starters cant start a specific game?? Is the second team player a competent player or a detriment? Somehow Marcel Desjardins and Rick Campbell have to find players that can play right now. Montreal Canadiens Jerseys. I guess you could say that about every team but I believe with Ottawa, it is a greater challenge. Other teams usually have a plan of development because they are established teams. Ottawa is not established with veteran status and leadership. It is all new and unique and youth will be more prevalent here than on any other team. It is an operating agenda of complete unknown because there are no previous reference points of success. Very exciting, but also very concerning. From the renovation of Landsdowne Park to the new TD Place, a very experienced coaching staff and management team, to an ownership group of wealth and commitment, a lot of things have gone "right" in Ottawa. The unknown will be the players and how quickly and effectively they work together as a team. You dont always need the best players, but you need players that are at their best working effectively with others. One of the positives that will come to the forefront as the season moves on is that because new players will have the opportunity to play, new stars will shine. New faces with new personalities will emerge and that creates a conversation and attraction. Selling football is about winning, but its also about finding an identity within the city. I am sure many Ottawa sports fans can name more than a few Ottawa Senators players. The same has to happen with the Ottawa Redblacks. They need their players to embody the personality associated to that name. And speaking of names I like, Im bordering on love of the name "Redblacks ." Our colours in Canada are red and white and the black and red fit with the Ottawa Senators. The more the CFL can associate with the NHL, the better in every way, in my mind. For those who dont like it; give it time. The name is open to interpretation within the individual imagination, so however you want to look at it, it is up to you. Too many Lions, Tigers, and Bears. The Redblacks is original and I like it. I like it a lot. ANAHEIM, Calif. Ron Jaworski Jersey . -- Even coach Bruce Boudreau acknowledged the Anaheim Ducks played perhaps their most dynamic hockey of the season early in their 5-3 win over Carolina on Sunday night. The Hurricanes were suitably impressed, but they didnt stand a chance when the NHLs best were playing their best. Corey Perry had two goals and an assist in the first period, Andrew Cogliano scored a short-handed goal, and the Ducks jumped to an early 5-0 lead in their second straight victory out of the Olympic break. Frederik Andersen made 49 saves in his first action since Feb. 3 for the league-leading Ducks, who scored three times in an overwhelming first period filled with sharp passes, relentless skating and outstanding finishes. "We were as good as we can be," said Boudreau, who won his 100th game in Anaheim. Francois Beauchemin and Jakob Silfverberg also scored as the Ducks won their NHL-best 43rd game and stayed five points ahead of Chicago and St. Louis in the overall league standings. Anaheim coasted late in its third consecutive win overall, giving Boudreau plenty of fuel for practice even while he complimented his team on its start. The first 30 minutes were a beauty: Perry got his 31st and 32nd goals during his sixth multigoal game of the season, while Cogliano set a new career high with the 19th goal of his breakout season. "If we play like that all the time, well be tough to beat for anybody," Cogliano said. "I think we played really fast, moving the puck really well." Andersen was solid while earning his sixth win in his last seven starts, but the Danish goalie could be headed back to the AHL after the game. Viktor Fasth, who has been out since Nov. 18 with muscle inflammation, is due to return to Anaheim as Jonas Hillers backup. "If we play like that, were as good as anyone," Andersen said of the first period. "Weve just got to figure out a way to play like that for a whole game." Alexander Semin, Andrej Sekera and Patrick Dwyer scored in Carolinas fifth straight loss overall and its fourth in six days since the break. Cam Ward stopped 29 shots in just his second start of 2014, and the Hurricanes followed up Saturdays 3-1 loss at Los Angeles with another disappointing effort. "You take the little positives that you can out of it," Hurricanes defenceman John-Michael Liles said. "We did put a lot of shots at their goalie, and he made some good saves. Ultimately, getting down early against a good team is tough, and it was a tough battle to get back. But were moving the puck well and were getting opportunities. Thats the biggest thing. We just got snake-bit." Indeed, Carolina put up 26 shots and scored twice in the third period, but went scoreless on six power plays to drop into an 0-for-21 slump. The Hurricanes conclude their five-game road trip out of the break Tuesday in San Jose. "Weve been pretty sound defensively," Carolina coach Kirk Muller said. "We just havent been scoring goals. Tonight we made a couple of mistakes early in the first, and they capitalized. They have some good players." Perry put the Ducks ahead 6:39 in, punching in a loose puck after the Canes defence came unglued during a shift by Anaheims dominant top line. Beauchemin scored later in the period on a slap shot that deflected off Jiri Tlustys stick, and Perry got his second goal 1:48 later with a nasty wrist shot. Cogliano scored during a horrible Carolina power play early in the second period, beating Ward between the goalies legs to set his new career high for goals with 20 games still to play. Shortly after Carolina got a bench minor for too many men on the ice during a power play, Silfverberg dug the puck off the netting and scored his first goal since Jan. 15. Carolina avoided the shutout late in the second period when Sekera scored in his second straight game. Dwyer added his first goal since Jan. 9 in the third period. Griffiths flicked home the opening goal on 53 minutes but Saints equalised three minutes later when a blunder by Hoops midfielder Stefan Johansen allowed Steven MacLean to nip in for the equaliser.Saints then grabbed what proved to be the winner through Graham Cummins, who stabbed home from close range after goalkeeper Logan Bailly and Efe Ambrose got in each others way as they attempted to deal with a cross. Jeff Carter scored a natural hat trick, and Team Canadas blue-line continued its offensive outburst as the Olympic mens hockey squad routed Austria 6-0 Friday at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics at Bolshoy Ice Dome. Denny McLain Tigers Jersey . Defencemen Drew Doughty, Shea Weber and forward Ryan Getzlaf also scored for the Canadians, who started their gold-medal defence 2-0. Goalie Roberto Luongo, getting the call in place of Game 1 starter Carey Price, was solid when needed in making 23 saves for the shutout. Canada was all over the porous Austrian defence, churning out 39 shots on goal, compared to just 23 for Austria. Austrian goaltender Bernhard Starkbaum prevented a much more lopsided score and was solid in withstanding a barrage of shots from the potent Canadian offence, making 22 saves before exiting ahead of the third period. Perhaps his best stop came as Anaheim Ducks sniper Corey Perry swooped in on a penalty shot but was denied by Starkbaums glove hand. With their postseason hopes fading, the Toronto Blue Jays pay a visit to Miller Park on Tuesday night to begin a brief two-game interleague series with the Milwaukee Brewers. New York Rangers Jerseys . Milwaukee, on the other hand, has won four straight to pad its lead in the National League Central Division. On Sunday, the Brewers put the finishing touches on a weekend sweep over the Dodgers in Los Angeles with a 7-2 victory. Jonathan Lucroy gave starter Wily Peralta all the run support he would need with a two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run double in the second. Peralta pitched six shutout innings to earn his major league-leading 15th win of the season. Toronto currently sits 7 1/2 games back of Baltimore in the American League East and four games off the pace for the wild card. The Blue Jays have struggled of late, with 11 losses in 15 games this month. Toronto was idle on Monday -- as was Milwaukee -- after suffering a 7-5 road loss to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Blue Jays starter Drew Hutchison had a rough first inning as he surrendered six runs on a grand slam and a two-run blast. Torontos offense put some pressure on with four runs in the middle innings and later had the bases loaded in the ninth, but Sox closer Jake Petricka was able to get out of the jam. Mondays idle date was one of three off-days in a one-week span for the Blue Jays. J.A. Happ gets the start for Toronto in Tuesdays series opener. The left- hander boasts a 2.51 ERA in five starts since the All-Star break but ran into some trouble in Seattle in his last outing, allowing five runs (four earned) in six innings. "The results werent there, so thats obviously frustrating, every game is big, but you cant get too down on this," Happ said. "I felt good, I felt like I was making pitches." Milwaukee is skipping Kyle Lohse (sprained ankle) in the rotation. In his place steps Mike Fiers, who has allowed just one earned run in two August starts (14 innings) since moving from the bullpen into the starting rotation. He tossed six scoreless frames and notched 14 strikeouts against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Thursday. "I feel like Ive been pitching like this all year," Fiers said. "I kind of got my confidence back from last year, probably in winter ball. Coming into Spring Training, I felt good. I just took off from there. Yeah, I got sent to Triple-A, but it didnt kill my confidence sending me down. I just had to wait for my opportunity and do it now." Sergei Nemchinov Jersey . Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn. Charles Harris Jersey .ca. Hi Kerry, Love the insight your column provides. Hoping you can explain to me the thought process from the officials on penalty calls made when the arm hasnt gone up initially. In last nights Senators-Kings game, Ottawas Jared Cowen came across and hit Dwight King with a glancing blow in the second period. Replays clearly showed neither referee raised their arm to indicate a penalty. King obviously didnt like the hit, got up and got Cowen with a minor slash. The two dropped their gloves and engaged in a fight. But instead of offsetting fighting penalties, the Sens were penalized an extra two minutes for interference. It appears to me that after the fight, the refs decided to give Cowen an extra penalty for the initial hit even though they werent going to initially. Had there been no fight, it seems no penalty would have been called and play would have continued. How does a fight after a hit change the ruling on the initial hit? Your thoughts please? Thanks, Stephen Webster Stephen: While it is often said that hindsight is 20-20, the initial reaction from both referees that Jared Cowen delivered a legal shoulder check on Dwight King and therefore did not deserve a penalty was the correct one. It is with certainty that I concur with your assessment Stephen, that no penalty would have resulted had King not taken exception to the body check and initiated a fight with Cowen. As a result of the subsequent fight the referee(s) had additional time to replay Kings helicopter fall in their mind and therefore deduced an illegal check to the head had resulted. Video footage catches the linesman in a quick but direct discussion with the referee while restraining Cowen and probably shared his perception of the check that he gained from the blue line. The referee(s) should have trusted their first gut instinct on the play because it was the correct one. Cowens additional minor penalty is listed in the boxscore as an illegal check to the head and not interference as initially reported. There is absolutely no way that interference could have been called when King got more stick on the puck than Cowen and tipped the puck past the Ottawa defender immediately prior to body contact. Kings body position was low and open as he extended to tip the puck and then began to pull up and away from the impending hit. Cowen slipped his body past the center mass in an effort to avoid Kings head and then delivered upward shoulder to shoulder contact. As a result of Kings body posture, the impact caused the LA player to spin in a helicopter free-fall which really ticked him off. After getting up off the ice King travelled some 20 feet to slash at Cowen and a fight was initiated. Even if the referee later determined that he misjudged an illegal check to the head delivered by Cowen, King should have also been assessed a slashing minor that initiated the mutually agreed upon fight. In the very best case assessment LA should have played a man short as a result of the King slash. At worst, the teams should have played five men aside with both players serving seven minutes each. The final penalty assessment caused my colleague Ray Ferraro to accurately comment on the TSN broadcast, I have no idea, quite honestly, how Ottawa is shorthanded out of this. In no way am I making excuses for the referees decision but since you asked Stephen, Ill provide you with my idea and perspective on how it ultimately occurred. These plays happen very quickly and the referee views the play in its entirety. The ref takes in the entire sequence gained from his sightline with a broad visual perspective beginning with the setup of two players converging on the puck, stick on puck contact and then immediate body contact. His eye is not narrowly focused on in the direct point of body contact given the speed with which this all takes place and the angle from which he views it. At the moment of contact, and in the aftermath, the refs mind quickly factors in all of these aspects of the play he observed to determine the legality of the check. By not raising his arm the referee determined that the contact delivered by Cowen was legal. Kings reaction to the hit and response to Cowen became another element of the play for the referee to consider. The fight and resulting time delay caused the referee to replay the optics of King spiraling out of control through the air. This coupled with probable input from other crew members caused the referee to rethink his initial judgment. Given the attention and suspensions that illegal contact to the head has garnered the referee became fearful of misjudging the hit. As a result of these factors the referees initial decision changed from, I dont think Cowen got him in the head to Cowen must have made illegal contact with Kings head. My final thought is that the first instinct a referee has on a play is usually the correct one and that hindsight is not always 20-20. T.J. McDonald Jersey .Do you have to be that close? Eden Hazard and Samuel Etoo scored first-half goals as Chelsea came from behind to secure a 2-1 win over title rival Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. After Martin Skrtel put the Reds in front from close range at Stamford Bridge after only four minutes, Hazard hit back in the 17th with a superb strike. Etoo gave Jose Mourinhos team a decisive lead from Oscars back pass in the 34th. Third-place Chelsea trails leader Arsenal by two points and Manchester City by one point. Liverpool is six points adrift after slipping to a second consecutive loss. Hazard was splendid throughout in his playmaker role, while Chelseas defenders did a good job of containing Luis Suarez, who was reunited with Branislav Ivanovic for the first time since he bit the Serbian defender on the arm last season and was banned for 10 games. With captain John Terry becoming the fourth Chelsea player to make 600 appearances for the club, the game started at a high tempo, with both sides involved in a gritty contest for possession. After Etoo was lucky to escape a booking for his challenge on Jordan Henderson, Liverpool made the most of the subsequent free kick, with Skrtel scoring a poachers goal from close range. Chelsea failed to clear Philippe Coutinhos free kick, Suarez headed the ball beyond Ivanovic and Skrtel tapped it home. Chelsea reacted immediately, only for Hazard to see his effort saved before Gary Cahill headed wide from Frank Lampards free kick in the eighth minute. Chelseas penalty appeals were waved away by referee Howard Webb after Hazard appeared to be clipped by Lucas in the box, and Lampard forced keeper Simon Mignolet to tip the ball over with a trademark powerful shot from outside the box. The home side was rewarded for its pressure soon afterward when Hazard gave Mignolet no chance with a superb curling shot for his eighth league goal of the season. Mourinho was forced to make an early defensive change as the injured Ivanovic was replaced by Ashley Cole after 30 minutes. But Liverpool struggled to contain the Blues relentless attacks and Etoo converted his teams dominance into a goal when he scored from close range from Oscars pass, despite Mignolet getting a hand to the ball. The Reds continued to threaten on the break and had a chance to level before the interval, with Joe Allens shot from the right side of the box drawing a good diving save from Petr Cech. There were further scoring chances in the second half, with Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho being unlucky to see his looping header hit the crossbar from a free kick as Cech looked well-beaten. At the other end, Etoo missed a clear-cut chance when he fired straight at Mignolet from a good position in the 54th. Suarezs volley four minutes later was easily stopped by Cech as Liverpool created more space in the hosts half. But Chelsea weathered Liverpools attacks and could even have won by a bigger margin. Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres eased past Mamadou Sakho and Skrtel but failed to beat Mignolet with his shot in the closing stages. The France striker ended a run of seven matches without a goal when he broke the deadlock with a header from Theo Walcotts free kick in thhe 65th minute. Bob Griese Jersey. . It was Girouds 11th goal this season. Arsenal overtook Manchester City to regain top spot in the Premier League with 42 points from 19 matches, with City trailing one point behind. "There was a big satisfaction because we surprised many people and we want to go from there, we played two away games and got six points against West Ham and Newcastle and as you can see the team is ready for a fight," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. "Lets keep fighting and trying to develop the team." In a scrappy encounter with few chances for both sides, the hosts missed an opportunity to level the score in added time when Hatem Ben Arfa fired a shot wide. Mesut Ozil missed the game with a shoulder injury, and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he expects the Germany midfielder to be out for Wednesdays game against Cardiff as well. Wengers team enjoyed long periods of possession and created several chances early on but was unable to convert them before Newcastle almost went ahead toward the end of the first half when Moussa Sissokos shot was tipped over by Wojciech Szczesny. Mathieu Debuchy also headed against the bar. Giroud had a chance to double the lead when Walcotts lob from close range was saved by Debuchy but the Frenchman failed to connect properly with the loose ball. Newcastle pushed forward toward the end but Alan Pardews team slipped to just its second loss in 10 Premier League matches. "We certainly didnt deserve to get beat but a mistake cost us at a set play, and we then had some moments at the end but we have come out with our confidence renewed even though we have lost," Pardew said. New manager Tim Sherwood earned his first win at White Hart Lane on Sunday as Tottenham easily beat Stoke 3-0 in the Premier League. Roberto Soldado converted his fifth penalty of the season in the first half while Aaron Lennon and Mousa Dembele added goals in the second for a comfortable win. It was Tottenhams first clean sheet in the league since Nov. 3 and the win puts Spurs level on points with Manchester United with 34 at the halfway point of the season. Tottenham next travels to Old Trafford to play United on Wednesday. Stoke never looked like threatening the Spurs goal, although had a penalty appeal waved away when Michael Dawson hacked down Oussama Assaidi in the box when the game was goalless. Three days after its first home loss in a year, Everton bounced back to beat Southampton 2-1 at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Sunday. The home side took the lead through Seamus Coleman in the ninth minute when the defender slotted into the net from close range. Southampton battled back and found the equalizer through Gaston Ramirez, who converted Adam Lallanas pass with a left-footed shot from outside the box in the 71st. But Romelu Lukaku, who came into the game without a goal in five matches, found the winner three minutes later to banish memories of the unlikely 1-0 loss to last-place Sunderland on Boxing Day.
