MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves best days came with Flip Saunders on the sideline. Jesus Molina Jersey . Now that the organization is shrouded in uncertainty surrounding the long-term future of star forward Kevin Love, Saunders is returning to the bench to try revive a franchise that hasnt made the playoffs in 10 years. With the teams coaching search complicated by Loves status, the Timberwolves decided the best course of action was to have Saunders, who was hired last season as president of basketball operations, step in for a second stint as coach until the situation stabilized, two people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Thursday. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not officially announced the move. A news conference was scheduled for Friday. Saunders previously coached the Timberwolves from 1995-2005. He won 411 games in 10 1/2 seasons in Minnesota and guided the Wolves to the only eight playoff appearances in franchise history, including the Western Conference finals in 2004. He has a career record of 638-526 in 16 seasons as an NBA head coach, a career that also includes stops in Detroit and Washington. Saunders is joining a short list in the NBA of coaches that also have final-say executive authority, one that includes newly hired Stan Van Gundy in Detroit, Doc Rivers with the Los Angeles Clippers and, to a certain extent, Gregg Popovich in San Antonio. Saunders will continue to work closely with GM Milt Newton in the front office while handling coaching duties. When Rick Adelman retired at the end of the regular season, he did so in part to try to help the Timberwolves move forward with a plan to show Love, a three-time All-Star who can opt out of his contract next summer, that there was a long-term plan in place for success. But Loves tenuous situation didnt help the search process, with trade rumours serving as a caution sign for several high-profile candidates. Saunders was in the market for a coach with extensive head coaching experience, either in the NBA or at a major college program, one that could command the respect of a young locker room and also handle the media scrutiny that comes with the questions surrounding Love. Names like Tom Izzo, Billy Donovan and Fred Hoiberg came and went without any traction. The Wolves hosted Memphis coach Dave Joerger for an interview two weekends ago, but Grizzlies owner Robert Pera sweetened his contract to keep him around. Sam Mitchell, Lionel Hollins, Scott Skiles and several others received consideration as well. Unable to find what they felt was the right fit for a delicate job, Saunders and owner Glen Taylor met this week to reassess the situation. Taylor said when he brought Saunders back as team president that he would not put him back on the bench. He fired Saunders as coach once before, in 2005 when Latrell Sprewell and Sam Cassell, unhappy with their contracts, submarined the follow-up to the teams stirring run to the Western Conference finals. Saunders was also hopeful that he could find someone other than himself to take over the team. But with Loves status preventing them from pursuing the coaches they felt would fit best, the two decided that Saunders should take over for at least this season if not longer. The Timberwolves have not given up on convincing Love to play out this season in Minnesota and re-sign next summer to a contract that can pay him and extra year and about $26.5 million more than any other team. It was not immediately clear what the appointment of Saunders would do for Loves desires to stay or go. Love has yet to make the playoffs in his six seasons in the league and is believed to be growing impatient with the Wolves, who finished 40-42 and in 10th place in the West this year. Love created a stir when he spent last weekend in Boston, where the Celtics are rumoured to be making a run at trading for the 25-year-old power forward before the June 26 draft. Just how long Saunders will coach remains to be seen. There is the possibility that Saunders will add assistants to his staff who could be groomed to eventually take over. The Wolves were expected to reach out to Mitchell, a former Timberwolves player and Raptors head coach, and David Blatt, who has spearheaded Russias return to Olympic relevance and coaches in Israel, to gauge their interest in joining his staff. Hirving Lozano Mexico Jersey . According to MMAFighting.com, MacDonald needs an x-ray on his right ankle and doctors clearance to fight or he will be subject to a mandatory medical suspension that will end on August 22, 2014. Andres Guardado Jersey . Obasi chested the ball past one defender, prodded it past another and then rounded the keeper before scoring from a tight angle in the 16th minute. Seconds after the restart, Obasi set up Klaas Jan Huntelaar for the Dutchmans 11th goal from 13 games this season. http://www.soccermexicojerseysteamshop.com/hugo-ayala-mexico-jersey/ . Nikolai Khabibulin was yanked in the second period, and the Ottawa Senators looked ready to put away a big road win. MILAN, Italy -- Relegation-threatened Bologna held Lazio to a goalless draw in Serie A on Saturday in Davide Ballardinis first match in charge of the home side. Ballardini, who coached Lazio for half a season, replaced the sacked Stefano Pioli on Wednesday and immediately steered Bologna to only its second point in five matches. Lazio, which beat Inter Milan 1-0 in Edy Rejas first match in charge, had the best chance of the match in the 70th minute when talented teen Keita Balde picked out Antonio Candreva but his cross was blasted over the bar by Miroslav Klose from six yards. Both sides struggled to carve out opportunities and Bolognas only real chance came following a well-worked team move, but Lazio goalkeeper Etrit Berisha did well to keep out Rolando Bianchis back-heeled flick. Lazio did not have a single shot on target in a poor game. Boos rang out at Stadio Renato DallAra at the end of the match with Bologna fans clearly not happy. An enormous banner hung from the stands read "Enough shameful performances. You are wearing the Bolognaa shirt. Hector Moreno Jersey. " Bologna moved provisionally two points clear of the relegation zone. Livorno was three points behind Bologna after losing 3-0 at home to Parma for a fourth consecutive defeat. Parma had never won at Livorno but got off to the perfect start. With less than two minutes on the clock, Jonathan Biabiany went past a defender and crossed to the far side of the penalty area for Raffaele Palladino to volley low into the bottom right corner. Palladino, who spent a season on loan at Livorno, almost doubled his tally in similar circumstances 15 minutes later but volleyed narrowly past the right post. Amauri sealed the match three minutes from time, firing home the rebound after Massimo Gobbis effort crashed off the right upright. Former Juventus striker Amauri scored his third goal in two matches with an unstoppable penalty into the bottom right corner after Emerson fouled Pedro Mendes. Livornos best chance came at the end of the first half when Paulinhos free kick was blocked by Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante. Mahendra Singh Dhoni says spinners could play a key role in Indias four-match Test series in the West Indies. Cristian Ansaldi Argentina Jersey . Caribbean pitches have always had a reputation of being a pacemans paradise, but Dhoni does not believe this to be the case anymore. And while touring the West Indies, with the first Test live on Sky Sports from Thursday, India will be able to call on the services of two of the worlds leading spinners - Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, former captain Dhoni said that the same pitches where fast bowlers such as Curtly Ambrose and Michael Holding once wreaked havoc, were now also conducive to slow bowling. What we have seen over the years is that the West Indian wickets have slowed down, he said. This means the spinners will have a major role in the series. The current attack is spearheaded by Mohammed Shami, who is only just returning following a lengthy injury lay-off. We have seen over the years that the West Indian wickets have slowed down Mahendra Singh Dhoni But Dhoni insisted India had a fine pool of talent to call on in the Caribbean, where Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are also likely to play a key role.Good thing about Indian bowling right now is that they have a good pool of eight to 10 quick bowlers who were all pushing for selection for the West Indies tour squad, he added. So that gives management the liberty of picking the best bowlers and whatever is needed in that scenario. Ravichandran Ashwin could play a major role in the West Indies, says former Test captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni And Dhoni is also confident about Indias batting prowess which has Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma and Murali Vijay all in decent shape. We have a set of six batters who have played Test cricket for quite some time now, Dhoni said.If you see the middle part of the batting it looks very good and they have good experience of playing outside India, so I think it will be a very good series for the Indian set up. Dhoni remains Indias limited overs skipper, although the Test side will be led in the West Indies by Virat Kohli. Also See: Stokes: Yasir best since Warne Two spinners, too much? WASHINGTON - Left-hander Ross Detwiler was left off the Washington Nationals roster for their NL division series against the San Francisco Giants, while former closer Rafael Soriano made the 25-man cut Friday. Sam Darnold Jersey .San Francisco outfielder Michael Morse, who played for Washington from 2009-12, was not on the Giants roster. He hit .279 with 16 homers and 61 RBIs this season, but hes had only two at-bats since Aug. 31, because of a strained oblique muscle. Is he 100 per cent? No, manager Bruce Bochy said, adding that Morse might be sent to the instructional league to get work in. Taking that into play, along with he hadnt faced pitching in about a month, we just decided to go with (Gary) Brown. He would give us a few more options versus the one pinch hit appearance maybe by Morse.Right-handers Tim Hudson and Ryan Vogelsong, who were not active for the Giants 8-0 wild-card victory at Pittsburgh on Wednesday, returned to the roster. Hudson will start Game 2 on Saturday, while Bochy said Vogelsong or Yusmeiro Petit could start Game 4.The teams had to submit their rosters about five hours before the Nationals hosted the Giants in Game 1. Both went with 12 pitchers and 13 position players. The Giants also included rookie reliever Hunter Strickland, who made his major league debut in September. The 26-year-old righty didnt allow a run in seven innings and was on the Giants roster for the wild-card game.Detwiler is a former starter who spent the regular season in the bullpen, mostly working in long relief. He went 2-3 with a 4.00 ERA in 63 innings across 47 appearances. The last time the Nationals were in the playoffs, in the 2012 NLDS against St. Louis, Detwiler started Game 4 a€” which Washington needed to win to avoid elimination a€” and allowed one unearned run in six innings. It is disappointing for anybody, for sure, especially being here the whole season, manager Matt Williams said, explaining that the Nationals figured they only needed two lefty relievers and went with Matt Thornton and Jerry Blevins.Soriano began this season as the closer and converted 22 of 24 save opportunities with a 0.97 ERA before the All-Star break. Since then, though, he blew five of 15 save chances, and Drew Storen took over the ninth-inning role in September as Washington won the NL East and finished with a league-high 96 wins.He is one of the reasons why we are here. Was the premier closer in the first half of the season, Williams said about Soriano. Went through mechanical issues, and has worked diligently to resolve those. I think he is where he needs to be.Williams indicated that Ryan Zimmerman, who returned in late September from a strained right hamstring, will mostly be used as a pinch hitter but the team will look at the possibility of starting Zimmerman against left-hander Madison Bumgarner in Game 3.Other reserves for Washington include Danny Espinosa, Kevin Frandsen and Nate Schierholtz. Backup outfielder and pinch hitter Scott Hairston, a 34-year-old hoping to be in the playoffs for the first time in his 11-year major league career, did not make the NLDS roster.Washingtons Game 1 lineup was exactly as expected, with centre fielder Denard Span leading off, followed by third baseman Anthony Rendon, right fielder Jayson Werth, first baseman Adam LaRoche, shortstop Ian Desmond, left fielder Bryce Harper, catcher Wilson Ramos, second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera, and right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg, set to make his post-season debut.San Franciscos starting lineup Friday: centre fielder Gregor Blanco, second baseman Joe Panik, catcher Buster Posey, third baseman Pablo Sandoval, right fielder Hunter Pence, first baseman Brandon Belt, shortstop Brandon Crawford, left fielder Travis Ishikawa, and right-hander Jake Peavy.___Follow Howard Fendrich on Twitter at http://twitter.com/HowardFendrich Sam Darnold Jets Jersey . Striker Oribe Peralta followed his double in the opening leg with a hat trick at Wellington to send his team to Brazil with an emphatic performance that left memories of recent difficulties at least partly erased. Mexico advanced with an aggregate score of 9-3 over the two legs. Mexico shed three coaches during a 10-match campaign in the CONCACAF confederation, during which it won only two games and scored just seven goals to finish fourth and to face the trial of a playoff with Oceania champions New Zealand for a World Cup spot. Under Miguel Herrera, loaned to the national team by the Mexican Leagues Club America, El Tri convincingly beat New Zealand both home and away to keep up its record as one of the most consistent of World Cup qualifiers. "We were expecting to be in the World Cup a long time ago but it wasnt like that," Mexican keeper Moise Munoz said. "So we had to play a couple of games more to be there. It was really tough and we expected it to be tough here in New Zealand. "They fought like warriors to the last minute and they deserve the credit also." Herrera chose not to select players based in Europe or elsewhere for his playoff against New Zealand, naming a starting lineup of locally-based players which included seven players from his own club. His team justified that policy and Herrera, having endedd a period of instability in Mexico soccer, now hopes to be rewarded with a longer-term contract. Custom New York Jets Jerseys. Peralta had a hat trick before halftime as Mexico cut to pieces New Zealands defence which, after being too deep in Mexico, pushed too far forward Wednesday and was consistently exposed. Mexico opened up New Zealand on the flanks and, when it centred possession, found Peralta unopposed. Peralta scored in the 14th minute after taking a pass from Juan-Carlos Medina and chipping over oncoming goalkeeper Glen Moss. He scored again in the 28th minute when New Zealand was exposed on the left flank and for a third time in the 33rd minute. New Zealand pulled a goal back when Chris James scored from the penalty spot in the 79th minute. Striker Rory Fallon, whose goal against Bahrain on the same ground almost exactly a year ago sent New Zealand to the 2010 World Cup, scored four minutes later when he side-footed a close-range shot wide of Munoz. Carlos Pena then sealed the win for Mexico with a goal five minutes from fulltime. "Were just a bit disappointed we couldnt get that equalizer," New Zealand captain Tommy Smith said. "Obviously we strung a few more passes together tonight and hopefully that bodes well for the future." New Zealand had one scoring chance in the first half from a penalty in the 38th minute when striker Jeremy Brockie hurled himself to the ground at the feet of Munoz. The goalkeeper calmly picked himself up and saved Brockies shot, leaving the New Zealand striker without a goal in 41 international appearances. "And I cant think of a better way to celebrate Canada than to bring our fans together from across the country, not just to mark one of our grandest traditions, but to celebrate what is a very bright future, in one of Canadian footballs proudest homes." The game will be played on November 29, 2015. Manitobas capital last hosted the big game in 2006 when the B.C. Lions defeated the Montreal Alouettes 25-14. This seasons Grey Cup will be held at BC Place. Marcus Rashford England Jersey . Martin had 27 points with some key baskets down the stretch, Love had his usual double-double, and the Timberwolves snapped a three-game losing streak with a 112-106 victory Saturday night over the suddenly slipping Dallas Mavericks.ST. LOUIS -- Getting drafted second overall has got to be a heady feeling. Greg Robinson checked any ego at the door, learning quickly how to fit in with the St. Louis Rams. The Rams plan on Robinson beginning his career at guard instead of tackle, where he starred at Auburn. The 6-foot-5, 332-pound Robinson has been a willing convert at a position he last played in high school in Thibodaux, Louisiana. "Everything happens faster," Robinson said. "I can get my hands on them faster, so its something that I think I can grow into. Sooner or later, its going to come." Running back Tre Mason ran behind Robinson on Auburns national championship runner-up team last year and has loads of confidence in his fellow rookie. The Tigers totalled 64 rushing touchdowns the last two seasons and the Rams anticipate Mason will be a change-of-pace option behind Zac Stacey. "When hes lead blocking for me, we love it," Mason said. "I know he can play anywhere on that O-line. Really, you could line him up at quarterback." Robinson could eventually move outside, given left tackle Jake Long is in the final year of his contract. Long is rehabbing from knee surgery and said Tuesday he expects to be ready for the opener. Robinson can draw on the experience of teammate Rodger Saffold, also a left tackle in college and at the start of his NFL career, too. "Yeah, he told me it was hard for him at the beginning, but something he got accustomed to," Robinson said. "Its something Im really going to have to work on and really learn in and out. Im sure theyre not goingg to play anybody thats not ready. Harry Maguire England Jersey. " Saffold started at three spots last year and will be the right guard, joking "at least I know where Ill be." The Rams re-signed him to a free-agent deal after he failed a physical in Oakland related to a shoulder injury, and hes comfortable playing guard for the foreseeable future. "Yeah, cant fight it," Saffold said. "Just got to roll with the punches. The goal is the same, its just one slot inside." Besides the physical factor, Robinson is adjusting to a much deeper playbook with even more wrinkles inside than at tackle. Robinson said Auburn perfected a "select few" plays. "Its a lot for him, but the good thing is hes listening to everybody," Saffold said. "We expect a lot out of him and hes coming along." Long, the first overall pick in 2008 by the Dolphins, has been doing a lot of individual work this week plus "stuff inside that you dont see," coach Jeff Fisher said. The Rams anticipate hell be a full participant by the middle of training camp. "Every week we try to introduce something more," Long said. "Im really excited and happy with how Im progressing." The 29-year-old Long said hes been rehabbing five or six hours a day for several weeks with the exception of a 10-day trip with his wife to Paris and Barcelona. "I wanted to do it and didnt want to do it at the same time," Long said. "The trainers told me I had to get out of the room for a few days. They were long days and they still are, but Im glad to do it." Sanguinetti, a first-round pick at 21st overall in 2006, is perhaps best known for being drafted just ahead of Claude Giroux. "Now would be a good time to have one," Seitzer joked to TSN.ca before Friday nights game against the Orioles. Its been a tough week. Entering Fridays action, the Blue Jays had lost five of their last six games, scoring a total of eight runs in that span. Baseballs leader with 91 home runs as a team, Toronto didnt hit any in the five defeats. The frustration is mounting, not that Seitzer needed anyone to point it out. "Its mental, emotional stuff," said Seitzer. "We were having so much fun and playing so well that when you hit a little bump in the road nobody likes it. When you dont like it you get mad and when you get mad after an at-bat and you go up for your next at-bat and it doesnt work out the way you want then you get more mad." Now is the time Seitzer gets away from swing-tweaking and mechanical suggestions. He becomes more a mental coach, inviting his group to take a seat on the proverbial couch. "I said, I want you guys to stay aggressive. I want you to compete your butt off on every at-bat but keep the emotions out of it," said Seitzer. "Weve got to keep the emotions in check. Understand that umpires are going to make bad calls you dont like, pitchers are going to hit spots that theyre not used to hitting consistently, were going to go through a little phase where we get painted up a little bit with guys who arent used to doing that." Hes talking about a guy like Minnesotas Kevin Correia, who entered Tuesday nights start with an ERA above six but shut the Jays offence down over six innings. Hes talking about a guy like Jaime Garcia of the Cardinals, who baffled Toronto over seven innings last Sunday. Garcia has a pedigree but is only recently returned from a year-long layoff following complicated shoulder surgery. Young Orioles fireballer Kevin Gausman held Toronto to a run over six innings on Thursday but Seitzer felt his offence had its best outing in a week. Gausmans fastball tops out at 98 miles per hour; he has a nasty splitter and a tough slider and hes learned a changeup, an effective weapon to keep hitters off balance. Seitzer liked, despite Gausmans relative dominance, his pitch count hitting 100 in the sixth inning, which forced him from the game. Theres also been some griping about recent umpires strike zones. Players have done a good job of not embarrassing the men in blue, quietly voicing displeasure without causing a scene. Seitzer had a way of handling such situations when he played. "Dont show them up, dont show body language, dont get them all mad but you have to let them know that you know that pitch was outside," said Seitzer. Minkah Fitzpatrick Jersey. If Seitzer felt a called strike was a few inches off the plate, hed murmur as much to the umpire. A third baseman and first baseman in his playing days, Seitzer often would speak to the same umpire the next day and would receive admissions of missed calls. He said the conversations often helped to develop friendships with the umpires. One thing he doesnt want his pupils doing: going out of the strike zone because the umpire has a wide one. "The thing Im telling the guys is you cant change your zone," said Seitzer. "You dont want to expand because once you start expanding a little bit then youll expand more. You dont even want to deal with those pitches until two strikes when youre battling and protecting but I dont want you protecting four inches off the plate even with two strikes because, number one, you probably will miss it and number two, if you do put it in play youre going to be out because itll be softly hit." Seitzers ability to relate to hitters is, in part, a result of the experiences he had during his own career. In 1993, following his release by Oakland, Seitzer returned for a second stint with the Milwaukee Brewers. He made a decision. As an experiment, he would no longer allow himself to be affected by negative thoughts. If he went 0-for-5 in a game, hed arrive at the park the next day repeating to himself Youre hot, youre hot until he was convinced the previous nights donut was an aberration. There were times when his hitting coach thought he was crazy. Seitzer said he never went into a prolonged slump in either 1994 or 1995 and in those two seasons he posted OPSs of .828 and .815. Reflecting, Seitzer said his mental experiment laid the groundwork for his future career in coaching although he didnt know it at the time. Hed like Jays hitters to apply his theory. "We have to let that transition again back to the good," said Seitzer. "I said dont fight, dont force, dont try and do too much and dont get mad about it and just keep competing; compete each at-bat." Despite the recent team-wide slump, Toronto continues to lead baseball with 91 home runs (Colorado is second with 84) and is second in OPS (.769). Blips happen. The statistics suggest the Blue Jays will come around. A tough week doesnt negate a strong two-month stretch. "Ill admit I was extremely spoiled rotten watching this offence go night after night," said Seitzer. "Hopefully we can get this sucker turned around quick." NEW YORK -- New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano asked for more than just offence from his top line when they took on the rival

NEW YORK -- New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano asked for more than just offence from his top line when they took on the rival New York Rangers. Adil Rami Jersey . John Tavares, Thomas Vanek and Kyle Okposo were also being counted on to slow down sizzling Rangers forward Rick Nash. That plan didnt go so well early. Nash scored twice in the first period, but the Islanders erased a two-goal deficit for the second straight day and beat the Rangers 5-3 on Tuesday night. "There was a time during the first period that I was going to probably break that line up," Capuano said, "but I wanted to see how they handled it. I thought they responded as the game went on and did a good job." Nash didnt do any more damage, Vanek scored the tiebreaking power-play goal with 4:38 left, Tavares had three assists, and Okposo added two as the Islanders won for the ninth time in 11 road games. The Islanders have won two of the first three meetings with the Rangers. The teams will play twice more in the next 10 days, including outdoors at Yankee Stadium. "Division games are huge this time of year. Its nice to beat these guys," Tavares said. "They got those two early goals, but I think for the most part we were the better team. We did a good job ... and finished off the game. Big win. Character win." Vanek capped the comeback as the Rangers were trying to kill a penalty for too many men. Colin McDonald and defenceman Thomas Hickey scored in the second period to get the Islanders even. Matt Martin scored a rare goal in the first, and Frans Nielsen added an empty-netter. Kevin Poulin made 30 saves in front of a nearly full crowd on a snowy night in New York. "The secondary guys came up big," Capuano said. "Our top line struggled a little bit in the first, but they came around. Your best players have got to be your best players. We were fortunate with that break with the too many men, but we were able to capitalize." Nash posted his second straight multigoal game, and Chris Kreider added a goal for the Rangers, who had won three in a row. Cam Talbot made 32 saves while subbing for Henrik Lundqvist, who missed the game due to illness. It was the first time in eight games the Rangers allowed more than two goals. "We wanted the two points, and we put ourselves in a good position to get them," Nash said. "We didnt get the job done." The Rangers pressed hard in the final minute after Talbot was pulled for an extra skater, but couldnt tie it. Unlike Monday in a 4-3 shootout win at home over Philadelphia, the Islanders didnt wait until the third period to tie it. "It was a good win," Capuano said, "but weve got a stretch coming up where weve got to make sure that were focused and were committed and doing the right things." After Kreider restored the Rangers two-goal lead at 9:34 of the second with a power-play goal, Hickey began the comeback with his fourth of the season off a perfect feed from Okposo with 6:38 left in the period. Just 3:14 later, McDonald got to a rebound off a hard shot by Tavares and fired a drive that beat Talbot for his fourth of the season to tie it. "Youre up 3-1 and you think maybe you can get through the period and play a good solid third, but we didnt," forward Brad Richards said. "We made some mistakes. Some nights other teams will capitalize, and some nights you get away with it. We didnt get away with it." For the second straight game, Nash struck quickly and gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Nash took a pass from behind the net from Kreider and wristed a shot past Poulin at 1:02 -- 8 seconds faster than Sunday when he put New York in front against Washington. The Islanders put lots of pressure on the Rangers in their end, but couldnt get a shot past Talbot. When Okposo failed to cleanly handle a pass near the right circle, Rangers defenceman Dan Girardi spotted Nash alone at centre ice and sent a pass to him. Nash received the puck with his back to the Islanders net, and quickly turned up ice and came in on a breakaway. Nash shifted the puck several times on his stick before sliding a shot in at 11:07 for his 16th of the season, fifth in three games, and ninth in nine games. The Islanders got one back with 2:38 left in the first when Martin took a pass in the slot from Tavares and scored his third of the season. NOTES: Martin went 38 games without a goal, dating to Nov. 1 at Ottawa. Hickey netted his first in 12 games, dating to Dec. 29 at Minnesota. ... Nash netted the winning goal in the previous four games in which he scored. ... The Rangers signed G David Leneveu to back up Talbot. Thomas Lemar France Jersey . The Tinkoff-Saxo rider was still dealing with the right shin he broke in a crash which ended his Tour de France on Stage 10. Billy Hamilton finished off Cincinnatis biggest comeback of the season for a doubleheader sweep. CLEVELAND -- John Axford had other choices where he could pitch next season. The Indians closed the deal. Axford, who had 46 saves for Milwaukee in 2011 but lost his closers job last season and was traded to St. Louis, finalized a $4.5 million, one-year contract Thursday and will close for Cleveland in 2014. The 30-year-old Axford had other teams interested in signing him, but he decided to join the Indians because of their turnaround in 2013, a strong clubhouse and manager Terry Francona, who sold Axford with his typical straightforward approach. "He was very, very up front with me about the team, the organization, the city," Axford said. "It just sounded to me like a situation I want to be a part of." Axford replaces two-time All-Star closer Chris Perez, who was released in October after Cleveland made its first playoff appearance since 2007. Axford agreed to the contract with Cleveland earlier this week, and completed the deal after taking a physical on Wednesday. The right-hander can earn another $1.75 million in performance bonuses based on games finished: $250,000 for 38 and $300,000 apiece for 43, 48, 53, 58 and 63. The Indians initially considered filling the closers role within the organization -- right-handers Bryan Shaw and Cody Allen were the top candidates -- and pursued several veteran free agents before working out a deal with Axford. The Indians werent scared off despite Axford struggles last season, when he started horribly and was demoted by the Brewers before eventually being traded to St. Louis in August. "We thought he was the right guy to take a chance on," Indians general manager Chris Antonetti saaid. Blank France Jerseys. "We feel like we added an experienced, power arm to the back of our bullpen." Antonetti said the team wasnt reluctant to give the job to Shaw or Allen, its just that Axford was a better option and the club feels he can "bounce back" and be an elite stopper again. Axford attributed some of his early problems last season to pitching in the World Baseball Classic. He was throwing hard from the get-go and went through a "dead arm" period when his velocity dropped following the WBC. But after making some adjustments, Axford settled in and posted a 2.92 ERA in his final 71 appearances with the Brewers and Cardinals. "I dont like to make excuses," Axford said. "I really enjoyed pitching for my country, but I really dont think my arm was ever ready for the start of the regular season. I had a dead arm and my velocity was down in those first few games of the regular season. But when you give up four home runs and have an ERA of 22 after four games, you cant be surprised that youre not the closer anymore." Axford has a 22-19 career record with a 3.29 ERA and 106 saves in 281 relief appearances. He said being a free agent "was fun, but it was difficult." Ultimately, he thought the Indians were the best fit for him because they provided a chance to close again and Cleveland is just a 4 1-2 hour drive from his home in Ontario. It also helped the Indians are on the rise after earning a wild-card spot in 2013. "There were certainly other teams in the mix," Axford said. "They had a great season last year. It seemed like a team I would want to pitch for." Fiorentina boosted its hopes of a Champions League spot as it ground out a 2-0 win at home against Atalanta in Serie A on Saturday. Cristian Ansaldi Argentina Jersey . Josip Ilicic broke the deadlock in the 16th minute when he curled a superb free kick into the near top right corner from 25 metres. Atalantas hopes of getting anything from the match all but evaporated when it was reduced to 10 men nine minutes from time following Luca Cigarinis second booking. Substitute Rafal Wolski sealed the match in the 86th, racing almost half the length of the pitch and holding off defenders before firing across into the bottom left corner for his first Serie A goal. Fiorentina moved level with third-placed Napoli, which hosted AC Milan late. Udinese beat Chievo Verona 3-0 in a relegation battle. Udinese had lost four of its past five Serie A matches, while Chievo was without a win in its past seven, scoring only four goals during that period. Chievo almost took the lead on the half hour when Cyril Thereaus back-heeled effort crashed off the base of the upright. Udinese went in front in the 56th when Antonio Di Natale brought down Dusan Bastas pass and volleyed across into the bottom left corner for his third goal in as many matches. Substitute Bruno Fernandes tapped home Roberto Pereyras cross in the 74th and Emmanuel Badu added a third shortly before fulltime. Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork. Colombia Jerseys .com) - Coming off an upset over a Top-25 foe, the Ohio State Buckeyes set their sights on a second consecutive ranked opponent, as they play host to the 16th-ranked Maryland Terrapins in a Big Ten matchup at Value City Arena on Thursday night. Thad Mattas Buckeyes were in the Top-25 this season, but a couple of league losses dropped the team from the ranks. Ohio State is on an upswing once again however, inching closer to admittance back into the polls, thanks to wins over Northwestern (69-67) and most recently, Indiana (82-70). The win over the Hoosiers this past weekend improved OSU to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in league play, good for a fourth-place tie with Indiana and Purdue. Mark Turgeons Terrapins have certainly acclimated themselves to their new conference, as they are in the midst of a strong campaign that has the team at 18-3 overall and 6-2 in the Big Ten, good for sole possession of second place, behind only Wisconsin (7-1). Maryland has won four of its last five games and comes in off a narrow 68-67 home win over Northwestern last time out. Ohio State owns a 4-2 series advantage against Maryland, with this marking the first-ever meeting as Big Ten rivals. These two teams met last year in Columbus as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, a game won by Ohio State, 76-60. The Terrapins saved their best for last, as a Dez Wells tip-in with under two seconds left to play propelled Maryland to a one-point win over Northwestern. Maryland, which trailed the entire game until the last 21 seconds, received 27 points from freshman guard Melo Trimble, as the 6-3 youngster was 8-of-18 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in the victory. Wells added 17 points to the cause for Maryland, which won despite shooting a mere .407 from the floor overall. Strong defense has been the fuel that has driven the Maryland bus this season. The Terrapins are averaging a modest 72.5 ppg, but are allowing just 63.0 ppg, while holding foes under 40 percent shooting (.392). Trimble has been superb in his first season in College Park, leading the team in scoring (16.3 ppg), assists (61) and steals (32). Forward Jake Layman (14.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg) represents frontcourt balance, while Wells (13.6 ppg) also has a penchant for scoring. Ohio State has its own dynamic freshman in DAngelo Russell. After erupting for a career-high 33 points against Northwestern, Russell posted 22 points and 10 assists in the upset win over Indiana last time out. For his efforts, he was named the Big Ten Player of the Week. There was plenty of offense to go around in the win over the Hoosiers, as the team shot a sizzling .623 from the floor overall. JaeSean Tate went 9-of-10 from the floor and poured in 20 points, while Marc Loving and Shannon Scott added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Russell is bucking for all-conference honors this season as one of the Big Tens most complete players. The 6-5 youngster ranks second in the conference in scoring (19.4 ppg) thanks in large part to his impressive .444 efficiency from long range. He is also averaging 5.2 rpg and 5.1 apg. Loving is a distant second in the scoring column for Ohio State at 11.3 ppg, followed closely by Sam Thompsons 10.1 ppg. With Russell leading the charge, OSU is averaging a robust 80.0 ppg, on a highly efficient .509 shooting (third nationally). TEMPE, Ariz. Orlando Brown Jr. Ravens Jersey . - Defence has been the backbone of the Arizona Cardinals in their 11-win season. That will be even more the case when they meet the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. With the Cardinals using their third starting quarterback of the season against the No. 1-ranked defence in the NFL, Arizonas best chance would seem to be keeping it a low-scoring game. When Carson (Palmer) was the quarterback, we always felt we cant let any team score, cornerback Patrick Peterson said after practice on Thursday. Thats our mentality week in and week out. Now that we have our third-string quarterback its even more at a high demand.Palmer went down with a season-ending knee injury, giving the job to Drew Stanton. Stanton sprained his right knee last Thursday night in St. Louis. So Ryan Lindley will start at quarterback in what wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald called the biggest regular-season game of his career. The quarterback issues have made Seattle an eight-point favourite on the road. With two tough defences, oddsmakers are expecting a low-scoring game. The over-under is a measly 36 1/2 points. The stakes in the game are big.Seattle will close in on another NFC West title with a victory. Arizona can clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a win.For most of the game a month ago in Seattle, the Cardinals held the Seahawks offence in check. They held Marshawn Lynch to 39 yards rushing and sacked Russell Wilson seven times. But Wilson slipped away for 73 yards rushing, 40 of them in one play during the only touchdown drive of Seattles 19-3 victory.Russells a great player. You cant help but credit him, Arizona defensive co-ordinator Todd Bowles said. We just have to find ways to get enough stops to win the ball game. I dont think you can stop him. You try to slow him down a little bit and makes some plays in between.Seattle is a bit beat up on the offensive line. And the Cardinals feel the defensive line is one of their strengths, anchored by Calais Campbell and Dan Williams with significant contributions from Frostee Rucker and Tommy Kelly. We rotate as much as we can, Rucker said, and it puts a lot of professionalism on the guys to study and know every position down the line, so theres no setback when anyone goes in.Rucker is the unsung hero of the bunch with a career-high five sacks along with a forced fumble.Hes been outstanding for us, Bowles said. Hes not a flashy player but hes tough, hes gritty. He makes plays and hes come up with some sacks lately. The Cardinals have 25 takeaways and lead the NFL with nine defensive touchdowns. With their offence a big question mark, they sure could use one against the Seahawks.Turnover and field position probably will be big in this ball game, Bowles said. Its for the title. Theyre coming for us, were coming for them, so its going to be critical.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Custom Baltimore Ravens Jerseys . Zinedine Zidane is hopeful both Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema will be fit for Real Madrids Champions League semi-final second leg at home to Manchester City. Andres Iniesta Spain Jersey . Ronaldo missed the weekends La Liga win over Rayo Vallecano with a thigh injury and did not feature in the goalless semi-final first leg at the Etihad on Tuesday night, despite training the day before.Benzema, meanwhile, was withdrawn at half-time against City, leaving his participation for the return leg at the Bernabeu on May 4 in doubt. Zidanes Real Madrid side claimed a 0-0 draw against City at the Etihad on Tuesday night We hope that they can both be fit for the second leg, thats the idea, said Real head coach Zidane. But we cant say right now. We have to see. We have to take it day by day and see how they are.Cristiano felt something after that last training session. Thats why he didnt play. Karim, it was a little bit different. But at the end of the day, little by little, he felt a little bit worse in himself. We dont want to gamble with his fitness. We know how important both players are for us.Real had the better chances in a tight contest, with Benzemas replacement Jese heading against the bar in the second half and Pepe firing a close-range shot at Joe Hart. Man City also suffered an injury setback as David Silva went off late in the first half I am happy with the game, said Zidane. It was not easy but in the end, we defended really well. We had the ball more in the second half and we had more chances after the break. It was a tough game but I am happy with the result. Before this game, it was 50:50 and now its the same. We have the second leg at home, but its 50:50. We are going to have to work like we did today. It is a Champions League semi-final so nothing is easy, but I am happy with the result and the work the players did.City did not have a shot on target until injury-time when Kevin De Bruynes free-kick needed to be tipped over by Keylor Navas.Defensively, we played really well, said Zidane. We know (Sergio) Aguero is a good player so we didnt give him much space. The idea was to defend together. We managed to achieve what we wanted. Trailing 4-1 in the final set, Sharapova steadied her erratic service game and took command again to beat the 56th-ranked American 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 on clay at the Magic Box tennis centre. The ninth-ranked Russian looked to be cruising before McHale broke late in the second set to tie the match and then took her commanding lead in the final set after breaking Sharapova. However, Sharapova didnt surrender a point after that as McHale netted to be broken to see her advantage dip to 4-3, and Sharapova eventually fired an ace down the middle to eliminate McHale for the second year running. "After a really good start (in Madrid) I didnt keep that level. I think I had a bit of a letdown," said 2013 finalist Sharapova, who is coming off a tournament victory in Stuttgart. You can write a book about a match," said Ferrer about his motivation, before referring to thinner air and its effect on the ball. "The first day is not easy. You miss more, but thats all." Fabio Fogninis recent struggles on Spanish clay continued as the 13th-seeded Italian lost 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to Ukraines Alexandr Dolgopolov. Fognini failed to get out of the second round at Barcelona last month. Nicolas Almagro will play Andy Murray next after finally dispensing with Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan, 6-3, 6-7 (9), 7-6 (4) with his 11th match point. Other second round winners included Canadas Milos Raonic, Ernests Gulbis of Latvia, South Africas Kevin Anderson, Igor Sijsling of the Netherlands, and Juan Monaco of Argentina -- who goes on to play defending champion Rafael Nadal on Wednesday. Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn. Benjamin Mendy France Jersey .ca. Hi Kerry, Ive been a huge fan of you and your hair for as long as I can remember. Loved your book and the insights you give in your columns. In regards to the disputed goal by the Red Wings during their game versus the Kings on Saturday, can you provide some insight as to how the on ice officials made their determination? From what Ive read, there seems to be two different thoughts on why a goal was allowed with a puck that was clearly out of play. One, none of the on ice officials saw the puck clearly hit the safety netting so the call on the ice stands, a goal. Two, on ice official(s) did see the puck hit the safety net, but as none of them blew the play dead (or intended to), the play was still active and whether or not they saw it hit the net is irrelevant. The call on the ice stands as the play was active and cant be overruled. Both reasons center around the fact that no video review was allowed so the call on the ice had to stand. In an age where basic things like boundary violations can easily be determined with video review, when is the NHL going to change things to expand video review for goals? Thanks for your great work and insights. Sincerely,Kurt JordanEncinitas, CA Kurt: To answer your first question, you can take it to the bank when I tell you that none of the four officials on the ice saw the puck strike the fan-friendly protective netting above the end zone glass. If one of the crew had witnessed the puck leave the playing surface (or even came to that conclusion through self-reflection) a goal would have subsequently been disallowed in spite of the fact that the whistle had not blown. The officials intent to blow the whistle would prevail to ensure that the correct call was made. When the play occurred in real time, I was bombarded with questions on Twitter as to how four officials can possibly miss this call. I hope you will understand there are times when it is next to impossible to track the puck at ice level. The perfect storm resulted on this play after Niklas Kronwalls slapper was blocked by Jarret Stoll causing the puck to rocket into the upper atmosphere of the Joe. Referee Rob Martell was appropriately focused on Todd Bertuzzi and the action in and around Jonathan Quick. The other three officials attempted to locate the puck in its flight path. Please dont suggest that the whistle should have immediately blown because these three officials lost sight of the puck. A reasonable time frame is allowed to make sure the puck is either frozen or out of play in an effort to avoid a premature whistle. The very best angle to track and detect the puck hitting the protective net was enjoyed by Kings defenceman Drew Doughty as he approached the goal line, facing the end boards and looking in an upward stare. None of the Officials shared Doughtys perspective! The next visual connection with the puck that any of the officials possibly had was when it was tracking downward just prior to striking Jonathan Quick on the numbers and deflected directly into the net. Drew Doughty immediately appealed to referee Martell and provided the evidence he had witnessed. Doughtys information would have been communicated in the conference held at the Referee crease. The gut wrenching truth these guys wrestled with was that none of them had seen the puck strike the protective netting to rule the play dead. The Officials were helpless to do anything other than allow the goal to stand since the puck clearly enter the net off the back of Quick. With an understanding of what took place I cant fault the Officials one bit. The blame rests clearly on the current video review process and the Hockey Operations Department and personnel that make exclusive "officiating decisions" on a nightly basis in the Situation Room in Toronto. Kurt, you asked when is the NHL going to change things to expand video review for goals? I cant understand why the general managers have not insisted on revamping the review process. It is surely time for a complete overhaul! I point out Rule 38.4 (viii) which says, "The video review process shall be permitted to assist the referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g. to ensure they are "good hockey goals". For example (but not limited to), pucks that enter the net by going though the net messing, pucks that enter the net from underneath the net frame, pucks that enter the net undetected by the referee, etc." I would hope that an undetected puck that leaves the playing surface (hitting protective netting out of play) and then directly results in the puck entering the net would fall under that broad "ETC" in the rule to permit video review to "assist the referees" in determining the legitimacy of the goal. This was well beyond the parameters of a "good hockey goal!" There was absolutely zero "assistance" provided from the Situation Room as the officials huddled on the ice in an attempt to make a correct determination. I suspect the officials were dying a thousand deaths on the ice and the replay clearly demonstrates that a telephone call was not initiated by the Toronto Situation Room to "assist the referees." Major League Baseball announced last Thursday (link) at the Owners Meetings their unanimous decision to fund and expand instant replay for the 2014 season. The key points for quick reference are including the managers challenge and most importantly that off-site decisions will be conducted at the Replay Command Center in New York which will become their Situation Room. Two additional four-man umpire crews will be hired and rotated through New York to review video feeds. The replay umpires decision in New York will be final. Take a lesson NHL; its time to make a positive change with regard to video review. Perhaps Los Angeles Kings general manager Dean Lombardi might agree. Djibril Sidibe Jersey . Hattestad managed to avoid the carnage midway through the mens final, as a crash took out three skiers, essentially leaving two men vying for gold. The Norwegian posted a time of 3:38.39, outlasting Swedens Teodor Peterson, who took silver with a time of 3:39. Olivier Giroud France Jersey . Dancevic won his singles match on Friday, defeating Go Soeda 6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-1, to even the best-of-five series at a game apiece. World No. 18 Kei Nishikori defeated Peter Polansky in the opening match, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. http://www.soccerfranceproshop.com/c-42-lucas-hernandez-france-jersey.aspx . -- Felix Girard scored on the power play in the third period to lift the Baie-Comeau Drakkar past the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 4-3 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Friday.CLEVELAND -- Its easy to see why the Cleveland Indians get a positive vibe whenever Corey Kluber takes the mound. "Klubes has pitched to the point where, heck yeah, you better play with confidence," manager Terry Francona said. "Hes one of the best pitchers in the league." Kluber (12-6) continued his dominant stretch by allowing one run over 7 1-3 innings in Monday nights 7-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Kluber, who hasnt lost since June 30, held the Reds to six hits, struck out seven and walked two in winning his fifth straight decision. "I started out not so great with my command, but I was able to reel it in and had better command in the middle of the game," he said. The only bad news came in the eighth when Klubers 17-inning scoreless streak ended on Brayan Penas RBI double off reliever Nick Hagadone. That also ended the right-handers stretch of not allowing an earned run at 25 innings. Jay Bruce started the eighth with a single. After Todd Frazier struck out, Devin Mesoracos single ended Klubers night after 110 pitches. Francona pulled Kluber, who received a standing ovation from the 18,696 fans. The crowd groaned when Penas hit pushed a run across the plate. "Every starter wants to go deep into the game, but in that situation when it was still close, and my pitch count was up," Kluber said. "I understand." Lonnie Chisenhall hit a three-run homer in the fourth off Alfredo Simon (12-7). Yan Gomes hit a two-run homer in the eighth as Cleveland won its fourth straight. The series between the intrastate rivals features teams trying to remain in playoff contention. The win lifted the Indians (57-55) two games over .500 for the first time since July 22. The Reds are 5-12 since the All-Star break and fell to .500 (56-56). Kluber stopped Seattle on a three-hitter Wednesday and took a perfect game into the seventh inning against Kansas City on July 24 in his previous start, with the Royalls scoring an unearned run in the eighth. Nabil Fekir Jersey. Klubers only loss in his brilliant stretch came in a 1-0 defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers. "You go through periods where you have things working and even when youre not at your best, youre still good," Francona said. "Thats kind of where Klubes is getting." Michael Brantley added an RBI groundout in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the fifth. John Axford pitched the final 1 2-3 innings for his 10th save. REDS IMPRESSED Cincinnati manager Bryan Price praised Klubers performance. "As advertised," Price said. "I know hes a tremendous pitcher, we all knew that coming in. He did the things that we knew about. Hes very good." TESTING Centre fielder Michael Bourn will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Akron on Tuesday. He hasnt played since July 5 because of a recurring left hamstring injury. TRAINERS ROOM Reds: Second baseman Brandon Phillips is travelling with the team as he continues to rehab from a torn ligament in his left thumb. Price said Phillips, who hasnt played since July 9, still cant swing a bat. Indians: Designated hitter Nick Swisher is optimistic his strained right wrist wont sideline him for more than a couple of days. "Ive been through stuff like this before," he said. "Its just a little tight." He injured the wrist in his last at-bat Sunday against Texas Yu Darvish. ON DECK Reds: All-Star right-hander Johnny Cueto (12-6) will start Tuesday. He leads the NL in innings pitched (162 2-3) and opponents batting average (.183) and is second in ERA (2.05) and strikeouts (186). Cueto is 3-0 in five career starts against Cleveland. Indians: Right-hander Josh Tomlin (5-7) will be called up from Triple-A Columbus to start Tuesday. He was sent to the minors on July 26. Tomlin hasnt won since pitching a one-hitter on June 28. Hes 1-1 in three career appearances against Cincinnati. ST. Tim Ream Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Steve Pearce is eager to take advantage of every opportunity hes given to help the Baltimore Orioles. The 31-year-old journeyman outfielders opposite-field double snapped a scoreless tie and Nelson Cruz added his major league-leading 22nd homer, providing all the run support rookie Kevin Gausman and two relievers needed to shut down the struggling Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 for manager Buck Showalters 1,200th career win on Wednesday. Gausman pitched six innings and Pearce, who homered during a 7-5 victory over Tampa Bay on Tuesday, went 2 for 4 to boost his batting average to .324 with six homers and 15 RBIs. Not bad for a guy who was out of baseball for two days after the Orioles designated him for assignment and eventually released him in the opening month of the season. Since re-signing with the team on April 29, hes gradually built confidence while making the most of limited chances hes had to contribute. "And I want to keep continuing it and doing what I can do to help the team win," Pearce said. "Thats 10 at-bats in two days, I dont know if Ive ever had that in my career." The first of Pearces two doubles, a line drive down the right-field line, drove in Nick Markakis from first base in the fifth inning. Alex Cobb (2-5) would have gotten through the fifth unscathed if second baseman Ben Zobrist hadnt mishandled Markakis two-out grounder for an error. Cobb yielded four hits and four walks in seven innings. The right-hander fanned six in his sixth start since returning from a five-week stay on the disabled list with a left oblique strain. "Its kind of been the story of the year so far for us in the fact that on those days we pitch good, its been tough to come across some runs," Cobb said. "On the other hand of that is were pitching poorly and the offence is putting up a lot of runs," the right-hander added. "Weve just got to get on the same page and ... and play the type of baseball we should be." Gausman (3-1) allowed five hits, walked one and struck out five, including Zobrist and James Loney after the Rays loaded the bases with no outs in the first. The Rays were blanked for an AL-leading 11th time, finishing with five hits and going 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position. "We just didnt hit," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "How many times have I had to say that this year?" Pearce is hitting .444 with three homers, three doubles, five walks, five runs scored and six RBIs against Tampa Bay this year. Most of the damage has come at Tropicana Field, where the Orioles have won five of six meetings between the AL East rivals to build a 7-1 lead in the season series. Cruz, who also leads the majors with 58 RBIs, homered for the first time since June 3. The solo shot off Kirby Yates made it 2-0 in the eighth. Tommy Hunter pitched two perfect innings and Zach Britton worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his ninth save in 10 opportunities. The Rays loaded the bases in the first on a leadoff walk, Kevin Kiermaiers single and shortstop J.J. Hardys fielding error. Gausman worked out of the jam, striking out Loney and Zobrist before getting David DeJesus to foul out along the left field line to end the threat. The Rays wasted another opportunity in the sixth when Evan Longoria had a leadoff double, Loney struck out and Zobrist hit a soft liner to left field that Pearce caught on the run before tossing the ball to second for an easy double play, when Longoria continued to run, mistakenly thinking there were two outs. "Stevie just seems to be dialing up what we need," Showalter said. "Its probably no coincidence that he was involved in the double play, too. That was pretty good positioning." NOTES: Pearce, who grew up in nearby Lakeland, has three homers in 18 at-bats against the Rays this season. All of the homers have come at Tropicana Field. ... After striking out with the bases loaded in the first and hitting into a double play in the sixth, Zobrist has one hit in his last 36 at-bats with runners in scoring position. ... The Orioles have Thursday off before beginning a weekend series at Yankee Stadium, with RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (2- facing RHP Hiroki Kuroda (4-5) on Friday. The Rays continue a 10-day homestand, opening a four-game set against Houston, with RHP Chris Archer going against RHP Collin McHugh (4-4) on Thursday. Chris Wondolowski Jersey . -- With his team down 16 points in the second quarter and headed for another blowout loss at home, Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson yelled out to his players to keep shooting and keep fighting on defence. Still the defending AFC champions persevered, riding their top-ranked defence and key contributions from younger players to a 12-4 record and their eighth playoff appearance since 2000, remarkable consistency in a league where change is the only constant. http://www.usasoccerauthority.com/chris-pontius-usa-jersey/ . According to TSN Edmonton reporter Ryan Rishaug, agent Rick Valette met with Oilers senior VP of hockey operations Scott Howson and general manager Craig MacTavish on Monday to kick off the talks.ATLANTA - Ryan Howard homered and drove in the go-ahead run in Philadelphias five-run 13th inning, and the Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 6-1 on Monday night. The Braves lost in 13 innings for the second time in three days, following an 11-6 loss to the Angels on Saturday night. Ben Revere led off the 13th win a sharp single up the middle off David Hale (2-2) before stealing second base and moving to third on Jimmy Rollins fly ball to right fieeld. David Bingham Jersey. Following an intentional walk to Chase Utley, Howard hit a sharp grounder that took one hop past first baseman Freddie Freeman for an error as Revere scored from third. Marlon Byrd following with a run-scoring single up the middle. Howard scored on a fly ball to deep right field by Carlos Ruiz. Reid Brignac, who had three hits, added a two-run triple. He has taken all of the snaps with the first team.Ive been preparing to play Oakland in London and to go out there and win, said Tannehill, who has completed just 56.5 per cent of his passes and ranks 29th in the NFL in passer rating at 74.1. Im taking the first snap of the game and playing the game.Philbins approach has created a distraction in the locker room, and Tannehill said that was an issue and was not a good feeling for him. But Tannehill said he understood Philbins handling of the situation, and remains confident in his abilities and the potential of Miamis offence.Obviously, it doesnt feel good. It creates a bunch of stir and a bunch of distraction in the locker room, mostly from the outside coming in, Tannehill said. Just guys having to deal with the distraction of it, its not a good feeling but hes been clear with me and I know where I stand. I dont know how it first came to me. I think I received some texts from basically everyone Ive ever known offering me support, which is a good thing I guess, and then coach came to me.Backup quarterback Matt Moore confirmed that nothing has changed with his role and that he has not taken a snap with the firsst team since training camp. Patrick Patterson Jersey. Ive taken zero reps. Ryans prepared the same way he always does and Ive prepared the same way I always do, said Moore, who is the highest paid backup quarterback in the league and won six games as a starter for Miami in 2011. We showed up on Tuesday and everything was the same. Obviously, I did get a couple of text messages from friends who read things and it caught me off guard but nothing was said in here. The quarterbacks lockers are near each other and they are together in the position meetings and on the practice field. Moore didnt notice any difference in Tannehills demeanour this week. With the Dolphins trying to avoid going into the bye week at 1-3, Tannehill understands the importance of this game with Oakland and he feels like he has the full support of his teammates. He spoke confidently about the running game and the offensive line, while saying he wished Philbin had handled it differently.Does it feel good to deal with all the distractions that have been created because of the situation? No, Tannehill said. Thats life. You face distractions. You face adversity in life and you have to be able to handle it.You have to be able to fight through it and become a better man, become a better player because of it. Were going about our normal week. Its all this stuff on the outside that seems like the worlds collapsing. . NEW YORK -- Trying to boost one of the weakest lineups in the American League, the New York Yankees acquired third baseman Chase

Posted in IYH Forums by jokergreen0220 at 07:19, Jun 08 2018

NEW YORK -- Trying to boost one of the weakest lineups in the American League, the New York Yankees acquired third baseman Chase Headley from the San Diego Padres on Tuesday for rookie infielder Yangervis Solarte and minor league pitcher Rafael De Paula. Dennis Rodman Spurs Jersey . Headley arrived at Yankee Stadium right around game time Tuesday night and was in uniform shaking hands with his new teammates in the dugout during the top of the second inning. Before the game, New York manager Joe Girardi said he hoped Headley would be available off the bench. After that, hell become the everyday starter at a spot thats been a question mark for the Yankees all year following the season-long suspension of Alex Rodriguez. "I dont think were getting a big thumper," general manager Brian Cashman said. "But I do think were getting an upgrade and a professional at-bat." The 30-year-old Headley, drafted by the Padres in 2005, can become a free agent after this season. The switch-hitter was batting .229 with seven homers and 32 RBIs but has a .339 average with six extra-base hits in 13 games since July 4. He was a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger winner two years ago, when he had a huge second half and hit .286 with 31 homers and an NL-leading 115 RBIs. He moves from a cavernous ballpark in San Diego to a homer haven in the Bronx, and the Yankees think that can help him. "You look at his last month, its been really productive. Hes swinging the bat pretty well," Girardi said. "We feel that hes in a pretty good place." Cashman said he thinks an epidural injection that Headley had toward the end of June has a lot to do with his recent improvement. Headley had been playing through a herniated disk in his back. "Once he had the epidural, it seems like its had a huge impact," Cashman said. "Hes a rental for the next two months." As part of the deal, the Padres will pay $1 million of the $3,968,443 remaining on Headleys $10,525,000 salary this year. "Ive seen Chase grow up," San Diego manager Bud Black said in Chicago, where his team was preparing to play the Cubs. "To say farewell is a tough one. Hes meant a lot to the organization." With an injury-ravaged pitching staff missing four starters, the Yankees began the day 50-48 and four games behind first-place Baltimore in the AL East. They added Brandon McCarthy to the rotation this month, obtaining him in a trade with Arizona. But its the offence thats been a major problem -- New York ranked 13th out of 15 AL teams in runs with 391. "We just keep trying to find different ways to upgrade," Cashman said. "Were open to anything." The punchless Padres (43-55) are selling off pieces and trying to build for the future even as they look for a new general manager after Josh Byrnes was fired June 22. In the interim, senior vice-president for baseball operations Omar Minaya and assistant general managers A.J. Hinch and Fred Uhlman Jr. are handling GM duties. Cashman said he spoke mostly with Hinch about the Headley deal, as well as Minaya. "It was a move that we felt was needed to move this organization forward," Hinch said in Chicago. "We thought the return was right. For 64 games of Chase Headley, we knew that the time was coming for us to move in a different direction." San Diego also traded All-Star closer Huston Street to the Angels on Friday in a six-player deal that netted four minor league prospects. The 27-year-old Solarte was an extremely pleasant surprise early in the season as Rodriguezs replacement. The switch-hitter was batting .336 as of May 14 but has hit .180 since and was sent to Triple-A for a week this month. "He really saved our bacon early this year. When we had a lot of other issues going on, he stepped up and for that were thankful," Cashman said. "But he was a player that had to be in this situation for me to get Chase Headley back." Solarte was scheduled to join the Padres during Tuesday nights game at Wrigley Field, Hinch said. Black said the Padres might play Solarte at second base. "In the last few days, as this has been getting closer, Ive looked at the scouting reports. Ive called around, checked around. This guys a baseball player. This guy knows how to play," Black said. "Well utilize him around the diamond. I like the fact that hes versatile." The 23-year-old De Paula was 6-5 with a 4.15 ERA in 17 starts and three relief appearances this season for Class A Tampa. The right-hander was selected for the Futures Game last year. Manu Ginobili Jersey . So true. It is one thing to create a winning football team, and another to keep it winning. Each and every week it changes. The NFL creates a unique interest of not who is "the best", but much more who is "the best this week". Kevin Martin Jersey . Wright, who has a bruised left rotator cuff, had a follow-up examination in New York on Monday. Collins said the exam "went OK." Wright will receive more treatment this week while resting his non-throwing shoulder. Collins said he hopes Wright will be ready to play on Friday, when the Mets open a weekend home series against Texas. "Hes not 1000 per cent so were going to give him a few more days," Collins said. Dejounte Murray Spurs Jersey. "Hes going to meet us in New York on Friday and be ready to go then. "I thought it was important to make sure that when he comes back that we dont have issues." Wright was scratched from Friday nights lineup against Pittsburgh and also was held out Saturday and Sunday. He is hitting .277 with six homers and 41 RBIs. The seven-time All-Star had an MRI on Saturday in New York. Rookie Eric Campbell is starting at third base and hitting fourth against the Braves on Monday night. The 2014 NBA Draft will be a historic one for Canadian basketball, with as many as seven players from Canada - three of them as high as the first round - possibly selected. Tim Schaller Jersey . In the days leading up to the draft, TSN.ca and TSN Radio basketball analyst Duane Watson looks at some of the names that will be headlining the event. Watch the 2014 NBA Draft on TSN, Thursday at 7pm et/4pm pt. Name: Khem BirchFrom: Montreal, QuebecPlayed: University of Nevada, Las VegasHeight: 69"Weight: 209 Position: Power Forward2013-2014 Stats: 11.5 points per game, 10.2 rebounds, 3.8 blocks Breakout Game: 15 points, 15 rebounds, 6 blocks assists in win vs. Boise State on Feb 1.Accolades: 2013-14 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, finished second in the nation in blocked shots per game.Draft Projection: Mid-late second round.Comparable NBA player: Chris Andersen Khem Birchs young basketball career has already been fuelled by some interesting decisions. Birch entered the NCAA ranks as the 11th-best high school player in the United States, and accepted a scholarship with the University of Pittsburgh. However, the Montreal native controversially left Pitt only 10 games into his freshman season. At the point of his departure, he earned a spot in the starting line up and showed glimpses of the defence and athleticism that made him a blue chip prospect. Yet after citing team issues of selfishness, he returned home to figure out his next move, which would eventually lead him to transfer to UNLV. Birch played two seasons at UNLV, his first coinciding with Toronto native Anthony Bennetts standout freshman campaign that culminated in his first overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Bennett outshined Birch with his dominant play and impressive stat line, yet Birch was named Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year. This season with Bennett out of the picture, Birch almost doubled his scoring (7.5 ppg to 11.5 ppg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg to 10.2 rpg) averaging a double-double, and again winning Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year honours. Despite improvement across the board Birch is very much a raw athlete, and instead of spending another year at school to work on his offensive game, he declared for the 2014 NBA Draft. Birchs strength is his defence. His 71" wingspan placed him second in the NCAA in blocked shots behind fellow Canadian Jordan Bachynski at a clip of 3.8 per game. His quickness and mobility make him a strong rim protector and help defender where his tenacity on defence cant be overlooked, tallying 1.2 steals per game. Offensively, he can run the floor and moves well without the ball, but is very limited in terms of offensive moves. His inability to create his own shot, coupled with his slight build will make it hard for him to maintain position in the low post. Quite simply, Birch will have to bulk up, which will help him on the defensive end as well. A great athlete with a high motor equals lots of upside, yet hes still a project. If an NBA team wants to develop him and help round out his game, its not a risk, but a long-term investment. It would be an interesting choice, however thats something that Birch is not averse to. Anton Khudobin Jersey . Long snapper Patrick Mannelly announced Friday that he is retiring after a 16-year-career with the Bears, a span in which he played in a team record 245 games and snapped the ball 2,282 times. Kyle Lowry finished with 18 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in the Raptors 134-129 triple-overtime loss to the Washington Wizards on Thursday. The Toronto point guard played 54 minutes despite an ankle sprain in his 41st minute of play and eventually fouling out. "We just ran out of time," said guard DeMar DeRozan. "All we needed is one stop, one rebound, one bucket. We just couldnt get it. They scored when they needed to, we scored when we needed to but we didnt get a stop when we needed it." DeRozan scored 34 points for Toronto (32-26), and Greivis Vasquez had a season-high 26 points and eight assists off the bench. Still, it was the sting of having to play with a banged up Lowry in the extra sessions that hurt even more than Amir Johnson and Patrick Patterson fouling out for the Raptors. At three hours 32 minutes, Thursdays game became the longest in the Raptors history. The previous mark was a 137-136 triple-overtime loss to the Brooklyn Nets in London, U.K. on March 5, 2011 which lasted 3:22. With Lowry limited by the ankle in each of the three extra sessions, John Wall stole the ball from Vasquez on back-to-back possessions with the game tied 127-127 in the third overtime, leading to four quick points by the Wizards (30-2 to give Washington a four-point lead. Wall scored 31 points and nine assists and Marcin Gortat scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Wizards outlasted Toronto. The Raptors were shorthanded throughout the second half of regulation in addition to the extra sessions. With 2:15 remaining in the second quarter, Terrence Ross stepped on the foot of a Wizards player and rolled his left ankle while being fouled on a layup attempt. He stayed in the game to make the free throws, but left with a little less than a minute remaining in the half and did not return. The team felt his absence, especially on the defensive end of the floor. "Losing Terrence Ross, you dont miss something until you dont have it," Casey said. "He gives us one more defender, shot maker, and that was huge for us. Especially defensively, he was doing a good jobb and also gave us another defender to switch around on Wall. Tuukka Rask Jersey. "I liked the way the guys battled. I thought we were flat in the first half again. I liked the way we battled, even through the foul trouble and also with the injuries." DeRozan would get the Raptors within two with a pair of free throws, but a layup from Wall extended Washingtons advantage to four with 29 seconds on the clock. "Thats got to be a nightmare," Casey said of trying to stop Wall in the open court. "Hes one of the fastest guys with the ball in the league. Now youve got Gortat, one of the best screen and roll guys going down the lane, the best shooters in (Bradley) Beal and (Martell) Webster spotted up. Theyre a lethal offensive team. We couldnt make easy plays in the first half and I thought that dug us a hole a little bit and that made it tough for us in the second half." After a missed jumper from DeRozan with 24 seconds remaining, Garrett Temple clinched the victory on a free throw to put Washington up 134-129 with 21 seconds to go. Johnson, Patterson and Lowry fouled out for the Raptors. Trevor Ariza and Gortat fouled out for the Wizards. In a second overtime session with as many turnovers as field goals, Gortat calmly sank two free throws to put the Wizards ahead by two with 43 seconds remaining. DeRozan tied the game with 2.5 seconds remaining. Beal scored as the buzzer sounded, but the bucket was waved off. Reviews confirmed that Beal did not get the shot off in time. Ahead by two with 30 seconds remaining in overtime, Vasquez lost the ball to Wall who tied the game at 114 with 23 seconds remaining. Wall would block Lowrys layup attempt as time expired to force a second overtime. Back-to-back makes from Vasquez closed out Torontos scoring in regulation. Gortat tied the game at 106 with 5.2 seconds remaining and a layup by Lowry missed at the buzzer, forcing overtime. DeRozan and Lowry combined to score 22 of Torontos 24 points in the third quarter. The Raptors trailed Washington 83-78 going into the fourth. Toronto closed the half with a Lowry technical followed up by a DeRozan turnover. Washington took a 57-54 advantage into the break. It was the second missed game for Washingtons Nene who is out with a sprained MCL. HAMILTON - Richard Bachman stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Oklahoma City Barons blanked the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-0 in American Hockey League action on Sunday. Marvin Williams Jersey .Jason Williams and Iiro Pakarinen scored first-period goals for the Barons (26-8-4), who stretched their winning streak to three games, and Andrew Miller added an empty-net goal with 57 seconds to play. Miller also picked up an assist for a two-point day.Joey MacDonald stopped 28-of-30 shots for Hamilton (16-16-6), which has dropped back-to-back contests. Both teams were 0 for 2 on the power play. Dell Curry Jersey . Floundering in the English Premier League, United has delivered better performances in Europe this season and stunned Bayern by taking the lead against the run of play through Nemanja Vidics header in the 58th minute. Bayern had dominated possession but struggled to create a clear-cut chance before Schweinsteiger arrowed a half-volley high into the net in the 67th to give the German side a slight advantage ahead of the second leg in Munich next week. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Jersey . Moments after scoring and setting off another wild celebration at Minsk arena, Platt leapt into the arms of Belarusian captain Alexei Kalyuzhny. http://www.basketballhornetsauthority.com/nicolas-batum-hornets-jersey-c-3/ . -- LeBron James warned the Orlando Magic to stop double-teaming him and ignoring James Jones. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Hornets are going all out to sign restricted free agent Gordon Hayward. The Hornets have agreed on a maximum offer sheet with Hayward that would pay the small forward $63 million over the next four years, a person close to with the situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The Utah Jazz would have three days to match the deal once Hayward officially signs. The person commented to the AP on condition of anonymity because Hayward cant officially sign the offer sheet until Thursday when the league lifts its moratorium on signing free agents. The Charlotte Observer was the first to report the news. Williams spent the last two seasons with Utah after six years with the Atlanta Hawks. He started 50 games last season for the Jazz and averaged 9.1 points and 5.1 rebounds. The person also said the Hornets have spoken to representatives for free agents Marvin Williams and Brian Roberts and will meet with them later this week. Williams would give the Hornets another option at forward and Roberts would fill the backup point guard spot behind Kemba Walker. Its unclear at this point if the Jazz would match the offer to keep Hayward or consider a sign-and-trade with Charlotte. Hayward, who visited with the Hornets this week, averaged 16.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.4 steals last season for Utah. Hayward has spent all four seasons in the NBA with the Jazz. He shot 41.3 per cent from the field and 30 per cent from 3--point range in 77 starts. Michael Carter-Williams Jersey. Haywards offensive production has increased with each season in the league, going from 5.4 points per game as a rookie to 11.8 in 2011 and 14.1 in 2012. If the Hornets are able to land Hayward, its unclear what that might mean for small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist or shooting guard Gerald Henderson. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Hayward is capable of playing both positions. Kidd-Gilchrist, the No. 2 pick in the 2012 draft, is considered a strong defender but trying to revamp a hitch in his jump shot. Henderson hasnt emerged as a dominant shooter as the team hoped when they signed him to a three-year, $18 million contract extension last year. The Hornets are high on small forward Jeff Taylor, their second-round pick in 2012, who is coming off a torn Achilles tendon. Hayward played his first three seasons in the league with centre Al Jefferson, who became the focal point of Charlottes offence last year and earned third-team All-NBA honours. After a slow start in free agency, the Hornets are picking up the pace. The 6-foot-9, 237-pound Williams, the No. 2 pick in the 2005 draft, played at North Carolina where he helped the Tar Heels win a national championship as a freshman and could be a backup option if they dont land Hayward. Roberts has spent the past two seasons with New Orleans. He started 42 games last season averaging 9.4 points and 3.3 assists while shooting 94 per cent from the free-throw line. LOS ANGELES -- After being thoroughly outplayed for over 40 minutes, the Los Angeles Clippers fought back. Derek Wolfe Jersey . Leading the way was a player not known for coming up big in the clutch. Darren Collison scored eight of his 18 points in the final 2:58, rallying the Clippers past the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-99 on Sunday to tie the Western Conference semifinal series 2-2. "Even though we didnt play well throughout the game, we were able to get a win," Collison said. "That feels more impressive than anything we did." Russell Westbrook, who scored 27 points, missed a 3-pointer and Serge Ibakas tip attempt was too late at the buzzer, allowing the Clippers to salvage a game they trailed until the final 1:23. "It was a good look," Westbrook said. "Just didnt go in." Blake Griffin led Los Angeles with 25 points, making 9 of 11 free throws. Jamal Crawford added 18 points. DeAndre Jordan had 14 rebounds, helping the Clippers win the boards, 45-43 -- the first time in 11 playoff games the Thunder were outrebounded. "We just willed this one. We found a way," said Chris Paul, who had 23 points and 10 assists. Kevin Durant scored 40 points, hitting 15 of 18 free throws, for the Thunder. "We let this one slip away," he said. "We could have took control of the series." Game 5 is Tuesday night in Oklahoma City. "We were almost on the mat and we got off of it. We didnt get pinned," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. "Theyre seething right now. They had an opportunity to go up 3-1 and now its an even series." It was the 14th comeback -- and largest yet -- by the Clippers this season after trailing by double digits. They rallied from 12 points down in the second quarter of Game 7 to oust Golden State in the first round. "This is one of the best ones yet," Paul said. "Darren Collison was amazing. You just got to love a guy like that who plays with so much heart and never gives up." The Clippers had no answer for Durant and Westbrook until midway through the fourth quarter. That dynamic duo drove the lane with abandon, drew fouls and made free throws in leading the Thunder to an early 22-point lead. Durants three-point play early in the fourth extended the Thunders lead to 15 points, and they were still up by 10 with 7:44 to go. But the comeback Clippers were not to be denied. "Everybody kept telling each other, Chip away, chip away," Griffin said. "That was kind of our mentality for the rest of the game. We just kept fighting." The Clippers stole a page out of the Thunders playbook, switching to a smaller lineup that included Collison and Danny Granger, who helped disrupt the Thunders rebounding late. Paul willed his team back into it, scoring six straight points to get the Clippers within six. Griffin, who was saddled with five fouls, made three of four free throws before Collison got hot. "The whole time Im thinking, We cant be down 3-1, we just cant be down 3-1 going to Oklahoma," Collison said. With the game tied at 97, Collison scored the Clippers final four points on layups. Crawford passed to a streaking Collison for a fast-break conversion on the second one for a 101-97 lead with 32 seconds left. Westbrook scored for the Thunder, but after Griffin missed, Westbrook did too to end the game. "Did that really just happen?" a still stunned Crawford said. Paul missed all five of his shots in the third, when Griffin picked up three fouls to give him five, and Crawford and Jordan each got their third. Ibaka, who shot 9 of 10 in the Thunders Game 3 win, got his fourth foul, along with Westbrook in the third. The Clippers came as close as eight points before Reggie Jacksons 3-pointer beat the shot clock to keep the Thunder ahead 75-63 going into the fourth. The Thunder had the Clippers on their heels from the opening tip, with Oklahoma City shooting 65 per cent in building a 22-point lead. Oklahoma City outscored the Clippers 32-15 in the first; the fewest points theyve allowed in a quarter of a playoff game. NOTES: NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who banned Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life and fined him $2.5 million after recordings of him making racist comments surfaced, attended the game, sitting next to Magic Johnson. Johnson tweeted on April 26 that he would never go to a Clippers game again while Sterling remains the owner. ... Johnson and boxer Floyd Mayweather have each made noises about being interested in owning the Clippers. ...
