Canadas Alex Harvey was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the mens cross-country sprint at the Sochi Olympics on Tuesday, finishing fourth in his heat. Julian Edelman Patriots Jersey . Harvey, Canadas best hope for a medal in the event, needed to finish in the top-two of his heat or post one of the two best times out of the rest of the competitors to advance. He finished the race with a time of 3:37.89. Two Swedes posted the fastest times of the round in the third heat. Emil Joensson finished in 3:33.20 and teammate Teodor Peterson was right behind him with a time of 3:33.62. On the womens side two Canadians advanced to the quarter-finals, but couldnt get through their heats. Daria Gaiazova of Banff, Alta., finished fifth in the second grouping, and Perianne Jones of Almonte, Ont., placed fifth in the final heat. Norways Maiken Casperson Falla looks poised for a run at the gold, advancing in the first heat with the fastest time of the quarters, finishing at 2:33.23. She also had the fastest time in the qualifying round. U.S. skier Kikkan Randall, who was gunning to become the first American to win gold in cross country, made a surprising exit in the quarters after finishing fourth in the deepest heat of the round, which also sported top medal threats Denise Herrmann of Germany and Norways Marit Bjoergen, both of whom advanced. Canadian Chandra Crawford, the 2006 Olympic champion in the event, finished out of the top 30 in the qualifying round and didnt advance to the quarter-finals, placing 44th. Teammate Heidi Widmer finished just ahead of Crawford in 43rd. Martellus Bennett Jersey .com) - Nate Buss 3-pointer with 5. Drew Bledsoe Womens Jersey . John Tortorella admits the coaching swap - Tortorella for Vigneault - does not look good on him right now. Is he going to get a chance to redeem himself next year? LeBrun: I dont think so. Nothing has been officially decided but all indications lead to the fact the Canucks are likely headed for a separation with their head coach. Its going to be a costly one. He still has four years and $8 million left on the deal that he signed last summer. But hes never really been a great fit with this roster and I think hell pay the ultimate price for a very disappointing year in Vancouver. The more intriguing decision is with the GM, Mike Gillis. What will ownership do with him? Hes had a long run there and a lot of people think he deserves another year, at least, to redirect the ship but that decision has not been taken. What about the collapse in Toronto? Whos going to pay the price there? McKenzie: If the Maple Leafs miss the playoffs and theyre certainly trending in that direction, the expectation is that Randy Carlyle is the most vulnerable and the guy most likely to pay the price. General manager Dave Nonis has never fired a coach in his tenure in Toronto and he also never hired Carlyle. That was a Brian Burke hire. So the sense seems to be if the masses are crying for somebodys head, it would more likely be Carlyles than anybody elses. Dreger: Tim Leiweke, the president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment seems to be the wild card in all of this. Will he make a snap decision and try to force something? Well, Leiweke says there will be no knee-jerk decision between now and the end of the regular season, which obviously isnt that far away. Hes also well-schooled on the long term plans of Nonis and Leiweke is often around the players as well so if there are improvements that the players ffeel need to be made, hes going to know that and hell be heavily involved in the review process. Eric Rowe Super Bowl Jersey. For the players who will be available come playoff time, the World Hockey Championship is coming up with Canada trying to earn its first medal since 2009. We know Rob Blake is leading the team from the management standpoint, who is his leading candidate for head coach? Dreger: Dave Tippett of the Phoenix Coyotes. But that all depends on whether or not the Coyotes qualify for the post-season. If Tippett is not available, Paul MacLean of the Ottawa Senators, Peter DeBoer of the New Jersey Devils and Paul Maurice of the Winnipeg Jets (if their teams dont make playoffs) could be other options that Blake and company would consider. One-Timers LeBrun: There hadnt been any contact between Sergei Berezin, the agent for pending unrestricted free agent Andrei Markov and the Montrel Canadiens since the trade deadline but there has been now. Berezin told me on Tuesday that he met with Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin in south Florida over the weekend and they had a very positive meeting. Berezin said they may not be as far apart as people think so theres some hope that before July 1, Markov may stay on. LeBrun: Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman met with Steven Bartlett, the agent for Ryan Callahan, who acquired from the New York Rangers, and said theyre not going to talk until the season is over but wanted to let Bartlett know that they want Callahan back. Theyre going to try and sign him. McKenzie: Look for the Calgary Flames to put a push on to sign Hobey Baker candidate Johnny Gaudreau, who plays at Boston College. Hes a diminutive but dynamic forward and one of the best players in college hockey. Hes playing in the Frozen Four right now but as soon as his season is over, Calgary will put the push on. If he goes back for his senior season, he could declare himself an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2015. The Flames would like to head that off by trying to get him signed to a contract this spring. Walcott is available for Saturdays home match against Southampton as Arsenal looks to extend its two-point lead at the top of the Premier League. The Gunners are currently the second highest scorers in the league but Wenger insists Walcott will add something extra to his team.DENVER -- Hunter Pence sidestepped questions about his home run, the one that cleared the top row of seats in left field. No, he didnt hear anything special when the ball made contact with his bat in the first inning. And no, he didnt realize it was going to travel an extra-long way. Pence wanted to avoid that topic all together after the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Tuesday night. Instead, the outfielder hinted, why not focus on the performance of pitcher Yusmeiro Petit, who won his first game in four years? Nice try, but that homer was hit too far to simply dismiss. Officially, Pences shot went 457 feet. But teammate Brandon Belt thinks it wasnt measured properly. "Thats 500 feet at least," said Belt, who kept up his torrid hitting with four singles. "Im marking that down -- 500 feet." As for Chad Bettis, the one who delivered the fastball to Pence, well, he had a little postgame regret. "Probably shouldve thrown him a different pitch there," Bettis said. "Youve got to tip your hat to him." Pences two-run homer was followed by Pablo Sandovals solo shot, marking the first time all season the Giants have hit back-to-back homers. "It feels good to get some runs on the board," Pence said. "But Petit really set the tone for us." Indeed. Petit (1-0) was recently called up from Triple-A Fresno to fill in for Matt Cain, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list last week with a bruised right forearm. Petit lasted six innings, allowed six hits and two runs. He also struck out six. Bettis (0-3) settled down after a rough start, allowing four runs and nine hits over six innings. "He kept the Giants in check after that and he did his job," manager Walt Weiss said. "His makeup is pretty good. He handles himself really well." Troy Tulowitzki returned to the lineup for the Rockies after sitting out the past two games with a sore oblique. He finished 1 for 3 with a run scored. The Rockies were without Dexter Fowler, who sat out with a bruised knee. Given his roots as a reliever, Petit pitched out of the stretch even with no one on base. He also pitched his way out of trouble on several occasions as he earned hhis first major league win since beating the Giants on Aug. Cheap Chicago Blackhawks Jerseys. 27, 2009, as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. In the fourth, Petit loaded the bases with two outs, only to wiggle out of the jam by fanning Bettis with a low slider. An inning earlier, Petit struck out Corey Dickerson and enticed DJ LeMahieu to fly out to strand a runner at third. Just that kind of night for the Rockies, who finished 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position. Pence put the Giants on the board early when he hit a two-run homer that appeared to land on the concourse beyond the left-field bleachers. Three pitches later, Sandoval lined a slider over the fence in centre. Getting Pence to talk about his homer, though, just wasnt going to happen. Feel extra sweet when he made contact? "I dont know," Pence said. Watch it sail out of the park? "No," he responded. Catch a replay of it yet? "No," Pence said. So Belt did the bragging for Pence. "Thats one of the hardest balls Ive ever seen hit in my life," Belt said. "I dont know how they measure that sometimes. But Im pretty sure they go further." He suddenly chuckled. "All of my hits combined probably werent hit as hard as his," Belt said. Before the game, Carlos Gonzalez provided some fireworks of his own as he launched several pitches into the upper deck during batting practice. This with an injured middle right finger, too. Gonzalez said his dinged-up digit is feeling better and hopes to soon leave for a rehab assignment. The All-Star has been on the disabled list since early August. "Its something I can play through right now," Gonzalez said. NOTES: Giants OF Andres Torres (bone spurs) is scheduled for season-ending surgery on Wednesday. ... OTTAWA -- The Canadian Curling Association has unveiled the 12 rinks that will be part of the organizations National Team Program for the 2014-15 season. Cheap MLB Jerseys . The six mens teams are skipped by Olympic champion Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. The six womens teams are skipped by Olympic champion Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Stefanie Lawton of Saskatoon, Val Sweeting of Edmonton, Sherry Middaugh of Coldwater, Ont., Heather Nedohin of Sherwood Park, Alta. The teams qualified for the National Team Program (NTP) based on their standings on the Order of Merit following last season. The depth of curling talent in our country is amazing, and the international results continue to prove that, CCA chief executive officer Greg Stremlaw said Thursday in a release. We were the only country in the world to have no team finish outside of the top six in traditional four-player world and Olympic championship events last season, and the National Team Program has played a significant role in those ongoing successes. As part of the NTP, the teams will have funding to cover some competition and training costs. They will also be able to access high-performance resources in the areas of sports science, sports medicine and coaching from either inside or outside of the CCA. As always, the objective of the National Team Program is to achieve podium results at international competitions, and were excited about the potential of the group of athletes that is part of the NTP for the 2014-15 season to continue to maintain those high expectations, said CCA high-performance director Gerry Peckham. Thanks to this program, these teams, based on their proven performance levels, will be given every competitive advantage possible to keep Canada contending for international medals. All 12 teams will be participating in the Dec. 3-7 Canada Cup of Curling at Encana Arena in Camrose, Alta. Its the opening event of the CCAs Season of Champions. NFL Jerseys China . ARLINGTON, Texas -- Tanner Scheppers felt discomfort in his pitching elbow long before the Texas Rangers went to spring training with a plan to turn the right-hander into a starter. Scheppers finally said something after the fourth start of his big league career, and now hes headed to the disabled list with elbow inflammation. Texas made the move Friday, a day after Scheppers gave up six runs in the shortest of his starts -- 2 1-3 innings in an 8-6 win over Seattle. General manager Jon Daniels said an MRI showed inflammation in the muscle and no structural damage to the ligament. Scheppers will take 10 days off, then start a throwing program. Scheppers said the elbow didnt feel right as far back as the end of last season, when he led the team with 76 appearances in his second season in the bullpen. "Its something that hasnt gotten better the way that we would like," said Scheppers, who is 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA. "Right now we just want to step back, get healthy, because theres no point in pushing through something like this." Texas replaced Scheppers by selecting the contract of left-hander Aaron Poreda from Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers made room for Poreda on the 40-man roster by designating infielder Andy Parrino for assignment. Scheppers was Texas opening-day starter because Yu Darvish had a neck strain. Scheppers gave up six runs in the second inning of that game against Philadelphia and surrendered six in the third inning against the Mariners on Thursday. Daniels said Scheppers was examined after reporting soreness during spring traaining. Cheap NBA Jerseys. He was cleared at the time, but now Daniels wonders how healthy he was. "I think it might be connected, that he wasnt feeling 100 per cent, probably wasnt performing at 100 per cent because of it," Daniels said. Scheppers fastball has averaged 93.7 mph this year, according to fangraphs.com, down from 96.3 mph last year. While his velocity was better against the Mariners, six of the first seven hitters reached in the third. Robinson Cano and Corey Hart had back-to-back homers. "My pitches arent doing what they normally are or what they should be doing," Scheppers said. "Its something that could build up and you dont get the results that you want." Daniels said the Rangers had yet to discuss what Scheppers elbow issue will do to his role as a starter. Left-handers Matt Harrison and Joe Saunders could be close to returning when Scheppers is eligible to come off the disabled list May 3. Scheppers was an effective setup man for closer Joe Nathan last year, going 6-2 with a save and a 1.88 ERA. "We will talk about it," Daniels said. "But we havent made any decisions at this point." Given a chance to start, Scheppers was one of the best Texas pitchers in spring training. Filling in for Darvish, he became the first major league to make his first career start on opening day since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981. "I really dont think it has anything to do with me starting pitching," Scheppers said. "Its just Im doing something that I havent done in a long time." TORONTO -- In coach Randy Carlyles estimation, the Toronto Maple Leafs have had to make last-minute lineup decisions much more this season than usual, and the health of David Clarkson forced them into another one. Clinton Portis Womens Jersey . With Clarkson deemed "questionable" by Carlyle to play Saturday night against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Leafs recalled tough guy Frazer McLaren from the AHLs Toronto Marlies. McLaren, who cleared waivers before the trade deadline, would be playing in his fifth post-Olympic break game if he takes Clarksons spot in the lineup. That Clarkson was still bothered by a pulled muscle in his leg which seemed to start during Fridays practice came as a surprise to Carlyle. Following the morning skate at Air Canada Centre, the veteran coach left open the possibility the Leafs could dress 11 forwards and seven defencemen or make a recall, as they did with McLaren. "Its always tough when youre missing quality players, and nobody wants to do that, but in the situation if the player is not deemed healthy by our medical staff and himself, then we have no other choice other than to make decisions," Carlyle said. Clarkson has four goals and six assists in 43 games for Toronto after starting the season with a 10-game suspension. Those 10 points are good for 14th on the team and tied with Dave Bolland, who hasnt played since November. Captain Dion Phaneuf will play against Philadelphia as Carlyle said Friday. Phaneuf took part in the morning skate, his first time on the ice this week with teammates outside of game action. "I feel good," Phaneuf said. "Obviously when youre not on the ice for a couple days, you want to get back, feel the puck a bit before you go right into a game." Phaneuf, who leads the Leafs in average ice time at 24:19 a game, has played in every game this season except the two he was suspended for boarding Kevan Miller of the Boston Bruins. That included games this week against the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers. Taking some time off between games is a matter of preservation for Phaneuf. "Sometimes when you have the opportunity to rest certain things, you want to take the time to do that," he said. "You weigh how much hockeys going to be played. "For me, it was good to be able to get those couple days to recharge and to rest a couple bumps and bruises." More than bumps and bruises have kept Bolland and tough guy Colton Orr out. Bolland hasnt played since having a tendon on the back of his ankle sliced Nov. 2 while Orr has been out the past six games. The Leafs open a five-game road trip Monday in Anaheim, and Carlyle hopes Bolland and Orr will be available by the end of it, March 17 at Detroit. "Orrsy skated again today, so Orrsys getting close," he said. "And with Bolland, its a situation as weve talked about before where were just waiting and biding our time and hopefully rebuilding that ankle, that area. "Hell give us the green light when he says hes ready." Josh Norman Womens Jersey .Y. -- Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire will have less time to remain eligible for the Hall of Fame ballot under changes made Saturday. According to an ESPN report, former Brazilian international midfielder Kaka has reached an agreement to join Major League Soccers Orlando FC. Wholesale Jerseys Free shipping . Orlando is to begin play in the MLS for the 2015 season. Kaka, who currently plays with AC Milan, is expected to be loaned out to his home club Sao Paulo for the upcoming season before joining Orlando for next season. The addition of Kaka rivals the international splashes made by Orlandos expansion cousins New York FC earlier this month when they announced the signings of Chelseas Frank Lampard and Atletico Madrids David Villa. Kaka, 32, scored seven goals in 30 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri in 2013-14. And he knows his latest move -- firing coach Mark Jackson -- comes with a lot of risk. Lacob just believes its one worth taking. After jettisoning Jackson on Tuesday, Lacob and general manager Bob Myers moved forward on filling the teams coaching vacancy Wednesday. Lacob said he has no set criteria for his next coach and no timetable to make the hire, but hes counting on the search to attract more candidates -- and more top-tier talent -- than when he hired Jackson three years ago. "We do have some ideas of what we want to do," Lacob said in a phone interview with The Associated Press. "We will look at all the basic aspects such as basketball experience, and I dont mean coaching necessarily. Someone like Mark Jackson had played 17 years in the NBA, thats a lot of experience. In this case it might be more coaching experience, it might not. Were kind of open to that. "But it has to be someone with good pedigree, someone whos a leader, someone who can deal with the pressure of a situation. We have been somewhat successful now and want to go to the next level." The job is certainly a far more attractive one than when Lacob hired Jackson away from the ESPN/ABC broadcast table in June 2011. The Warriors are coming off a 51-win season and consecutive playoff appearances for the first time in 20 years, and theyve surrounded star Stephen Curry with young talent. Lacob compared the decision to change coaches to how he built his fortune as a venture capitalist in Silicon Valley. He said theres a different person to lead a business at different stages of development, and the Warriors have gone from a "startup" company to an organization looking to maximize its output. "Or in this case win an NBA championship," he said. "And we just felt overall we needed a different person to go forward and get to the next level." Where the Warriors go for their next coach is unclear. Lacob and Myers both declined to discuss specific candidates. Former NBA player and current TNT broadcaaster Steve Kerr, who is also a candidate for the New York Knicks job, has close ties to Lacob and Warriors President Rick Welts from Kerrs time as the general manager for the Phoenix Suns. Wholesale Jerseys. Former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy, who went to high school in nearby Martinez, California, has been mentioned for multiple openings the past few years but has yet to show a desire to go back to the bench. If the Warriors look to the college ranks, Iowa States Fred Hoiberg and Connecticuts Kevin Ollie are rising stars in the profession. Lacob, who insisted NBA coaching experience is not a requirement, could also try to make a splash by luring a more tenured coach such as Michigan States Tom Izzo to the professional ranks. Or, as was the case with Jackson, make another unconventional hire. The one thing Lacob is banking on is he should have a more wide-ranging field than when he made his first coaching hire as owner. Among the coaches the Warriors reached out to during that search: Jackson, Michael Malone, Mike Brown, Brian Shaw, Dwane Casey, Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Budenholzer. "We think this is a very attractive job," Lacob said. "Compared to three years ago, we have an outstanding organization. Three years ago, not only was the team not winning, but the organization needed a lot of work." Lacob also understands a new coach comes with the risk of disrupting team chemistry. Nearly every player publicly called for Jackson to return -- most notably Curry, whom Lacob said was told of the decision ahead of time. Lacob said he hopes his ownership group has built enough clout with players and fans since it bought the franchise in 2010 that they will have faith in the decisions management makes. "I think they have the same goals as us -- to win and to achieve a high level of success," Lacob said. "And I think they have to trust us a little bit, that we have the same goals and were going to do everything we can to bring in the best coach possible and will manage the attributes of each player in a way that will allow us to win as many games as possible." The city released the 35-year lease agreement Friday night. The Sacramento City Council is scheduled to vote on the deal May 20, when it could end years of uncertainty surrounding the home of the Kings. The project will cost an estimated $477 million. The city is responsible for $223 million, while the Kings will contribute $254 million. The arena is schedule to open for the 2016-17 season. The NBA had told the city that it must open the arena by 2017 or risk losing the Kings, who nearly moved to Seattle last year before software tycoon Vivek Ranadive won his fight with the league to buy the team from the Maloof family. The Seahawks announced Rices decision two days before the start of training camp. The news was first reported by Pro Football Talk. Rice played seven seasons and is retiring at age 27. "I have enjoyed my experiences with all of my coaches, teammates and passionate Seahawks fans. I take great pride in knowing I was one of the players signed to help build the foundation of the team that ultimately won the Super Bowl," Rice said in a statement from the team. "Ill be joining the 12s in support of the Seattle Seahawks as they take on the challenge to repeat." Rice missed half of last season with the Seahawks after tearing his ACL against St. Louis. Rice re-signed with Seattle in the off-season on a $1 million, one-year deal. But he was going to be pushed to make the Seahawks final roster with the additions of draft picks Paul Richardson and Kevin Norwood and a healthy Percy Harvin. "The entire organization would like to thank Sidney for his leadership over the past three seasons," Seattle general manager John Schneider said. "His time as a Seahawks player displayed the core values that Pete and I aimed to bring to the program." Rice signed with Seattle as a free aggent before the 2011 season. Cheap NHL Jerseys. He played in 33 regular-season games with the Seahawks, his best season coming in 2012 when he had 50 receptions and seven touchdowns and played all 16 games. Rices best season came in 2009 when he was selected to the Pro Bowl after catching 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns. He added another 10 catches and four touchdowns in the playoffs that season. But injuries were always part of the story with Rice. His breakout season with Minnesota in 2009 was followed by hip surgery that limited him to six games in 2010, his final season with the Vikings. His first season with Seattle was shortened by a pair of concussions that eventually landed Rice on injured reserve. Rice started six of Seattles first eight games last season before injuring his knee against the Rams. Rice was a second-round pick of the Vikings in 2007. Hell finish his career with 243 catches and 30 touchdowns. Wide receiver is one position where the Seahawks could afford to absorb a loss. Golden Tate left for Detroit in free agency in the off-season, but Seattle was not counting on Rice to be a starter with Harvin, Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse and Ricardo Lockette all returning off the Super Bowl roster. Rice recently invested in Wingstop franchises in the Puget Sound region and said he intends on establishing himself as a businessman. Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. Cheap Jerseys . This week they discuss Russias mens hockey team, the ineptitude of the IOC handling the Nicklas Backstrom situation, John Tortorellas many apologies, and Canadas strong showing in curling. Bruce Arthur, National Post My thumb is down to Russias national mens hockey program, which is still making reverberations a week after Sochi. After falling in the quarter-finals for the second straight Olympics, Russias NHL stars came back angry. As Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review wrote, Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin were unhappy for many reasons, but most of all resented the programs bias towards KHL players, which greatly distorted playing time, pairings, strategy, and felt like a punishment to Russian stars who dont play at home. Russia was one of the worlds great hockey powers, and a worthy rival to Canada; now its a mess, riven by petty rivalries. Its a shame, really. The Russians havent won a best-on-best tournament since the 1981 Canada Cup, and somehow they feel further away than ever. Steve Simmons, SUN Media My thumb is down to the International Olympic Committee for the mess it made of the Nicklas Backstrom gold medal game allergy pill fiasco. As a member of Swedens hockey delegation said, the IOC destroyed one of the greatest days in Olympic hockey history for the country. Backstrom, who did test positive for pseudo-ephedrine, didnt disagree with that assessment. The IOC first tested Backstrom last Wednesday. In the three days that followed, they never did do a second test. The Swedish team was not informed of Backstroms status until two hours before game time. Now dont get me wrong, the Swedes could have had Nicklas Backstrom, Ralph Backstrom, and all the Backstroms you can name available for the gold medal game and the result wouldnt have been different. What they didnt need was an unnecessary disruption, born of IOC ineptitude. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated My thumb is down to John Tortorella, not for his most recent apology but for the continual need to apologize. This time, the Canucks coach launched into a mea culpa after saying he favored Sweden in the Sochi final because he wanted his Swedish Olympians - Daniel Sedin and Alex Edler - to return with smiles on their faces. Tortorella wears blinders. Professionally, he sees the small picture, nothing beyond his team. Belatedly, of course, he grasped context - Vancouver … Canada. So four weeks after apologizing for losing his mind between periods against Calgary, he again was at a microphone wearing a hair shirt and a tight expression. Thats Tortorella, the never-ending sorry. Dave Hodge, TSN My thumb is up to the excellence shown by Canadas Gold-medalists in curling - Jennifer Jones and her rink from Winnipeg and Brad Jacobs and his rink from Sault Ste. Marie. We used to take for granted Canadas worldwide dominance in curling, and then we didnt, because as good as the Canadians continued to be, several other countries showed they were capable of winning world titles. Not that Jones and Jacobs allow Canada to rest on its laurels, but the Sochi results were very impressive, and hows this for proof of Canadas wealth of curling talent - the Brier is underway in Kamloops and the field is strong with Jeff Stoughton, Kevin Koe, John Morris, and Brad Gushue. And imagine talking about a strong field that doesnt include Jacobs, Glenn Howard and Kevin Martin. Cheap nfl Jerseys china . EDMONTON -- Simeon Rottier spent the CFL off-season working relentlessly on improving his football skills, determined to prove that 2013 is a season best forgotten. Josh Norman Jersey . The six-foot-six, 295-pound guard became the focal point of much that was wrong with last years Edmonton Eskimos when general manager Ed Hervey publicly chastised him after a Labour Day loss to Calgary, saying it wouldnt bother him if Rottier "didnt play another down this year." The native of Westlock, Alta., was back in the lineup a week later after the CFL Players Association complained Hervey was offside with his comments. When the Eskimos play their second and final pre-season game in Regina Friday, Rottier will again be the starting left guard. "This off-season I worked as hard as I could to come in ready and put last year behind me," Rottier said after the teams walk-through Thursday. "I was just happy to come back here and start a fresh year. Thats the bottom line and thank God for a second chance." Every returning Eskimo is getting another chance this season after the team turned over its entire coaching staff. Former Toronto defensive co-ordinator Chris Jones was hired as head coach and he brought in eight new assistants and handed the responsibility for shoring up the much-maligned offensive line to Johathan Himebauch. Although the coaches and returning players would rather forget last year, Himebauch, a veteran CFL coach has become acutely aware that wont be easy. "I know theres been a lot more attention. This is the most interviews Ive done in my career," he said with a smile. "Ive been here two weeks and done so many interviews my wife keeps laughing and saying, What are you doing out there?" As training camp winds down, Himebauch says he hasnt detected any "residual feelings from last year. "When Chris came in he told all the coaches, dont bring up last year, dont bring up the past of where this team has been because its not important." Rottier said theres a different feeling around the offensive line, which has five newcomers on the depth chart. Theres no obvious worrying about pressure or thinking about last season. "Last year there was a little too much stressing out about the pressure. We were worried about making mistakes, now were just going to cut it loose." Its a huge offensive line. Guard Andrew Jones, a first-year Eskimo, is the shortest at six-foot-three and third-year guard Matt ODonnell the tallest at six-foot-11. Rottier is the only one listed less than 300 pounds. "When I talk to them at practice I make them take a knee because my knee hurts from staring up at these guys," said Himebauch. "They are big human being and when they understand that they can be very powerful, that they can remove people, that they can create a great pocket for the quarterback, when they gain that confidence they can do special things." Ryan Kerrigan Jersey . The thunderous cheers quickly changed to an appreciative chant: "Ma-son! Ma-son! Ma-son! Headed to New York with new life, Mason sure earned this curtain call. The 32-year-old had last season cut short due to injury. He had 32 catches for 400 yards and three touchdowns in seven games. Posted in IYH Forums by jokergreen0220 at 08:08, Jan 24 2017

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork. Bengals Jerseys .com) - The 2014 SEC Championship Game kicks off in the Georgia Dome on Saturday afternoon, with the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide pitted against the No. 14 Missouri Tigers. This years Iron Bowl had a lot to live up to after last years amazing finish, but the 2014 version was nearly as exciting, as Alabama overcame a second-half deficit to capture a 55-44 victory in the highest-scoring contest in series history. It makes you proud, Alabama coach Nick Saban said of his teams resiliency. Im sure our players are extremely happy to win the (SEC) West and have an opportunity to go to the SEC Championship Game. The Tide are now 11-1 overall and with last weeks win they were able to overtake Florida State for the top spot in the AP poll. They have advanced to the SEC Championship Game for the fourth time in the last seven years, having won the game in 2009 and 2012. Its a great competitive venue, and one of the most exciting game that Ive had an opportunity to compete and play in through the years the few times that weve been able to get there, Saban said. This is a special opportunity. Our conference is very difficult, so this is a pretty significant accomplishment to be in the game. Since going just 2-6 in the league in its first-ever SEC season in 2012, Missouri has adjusted to life in its new conference very well by winning back- to-back SEC Eastern Division titles. The Tigers needed to win their regular- season finale to get in the title game this season, and after facing an early 14-3 deficit at home against Arkansas, they climbed back to capture a 21-14 victory for their sixth straight win to move to 10-2 and 7-1 in the conference. This has not been an easy year, but we battled and competed, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said. Its our second time down there in a row, and Ill tell you this, thats hard to do...Having the experience of being in this game certainly helps. (The players) understand how awesome of an experience it is. Ultimately though, it goes back to playing you best football. The Tide and the Tigers have split four all-time meetings, with Alabama winning most recently in 2012, 42-10. Alabamas offense has been excellent all season long, averaging 36.7 ppg and 489.3 ypg with great balance between the run (206.8 ypg) and the pass (282.6 ypg). Last week the unit was especially potent in overcoming a 12-point deficit in racking up 539 yards. Amari Cooper stepped up on the biggest stage last week, tying his program record with 224 yards on 13 receptions while scoring three touchdowns. Cooper has emerged this season as the nations most dominant receiver, as he ranks in the top three in the FBS in catches (103), yards (1,573) and touchdowns (14). His accomplishments are even greater when considering hes the Tides only dangerous receiving threat. No one else has more than 33 receptions. Blake Sims has done a great job under center, completing 63.1 percent of his passes for 2,988 yards with 24 touchdowns to just seven interceptions while adding stellar rushing stats as well (302 yards, six TDs). He tossed three picks a week ago but helped neutralize those mistakes with five total touchdowns. The rushing attack is spearheaded by two of the most talented backs in the country - T.J. Yeldon (885 yards, eight TDs) and Derrick Henry (754 yards, eight TDs). The duo combined for 199 yards and three touchdowns on 24 attempts against Auburn. Alabamas stout defense had a major hiccup a week ago in allowing 630 yards, but the unit is still one of the nations best in yielding just 16.9 ppg and 312.0 ypg. Linebacker Reggie Ragland (86 tackles, 8.5 TFL, INT, three fumble recoveries) and safety Landon Collins (84 tackles, three INTs) are two of the best players at their positions in the conference. Xzavier Dickson (10.5 TFL, 8.0 sacks), Nick Perry (71 tackles, two INTs) and Cyrus Jones (43 tackles, two INTs) are also in the midst of great seasons. The Tigers have found success this season without the luxury of a potent offense, as they put up a modest 28.6 ppg on 365.9 ypg. The unit may not be explosive but it has been timely, as it was last week when Marcus Murphy run in a 12-yard score with under five minutes left to cap off the come-from- behind victory. Maty Mauk has been an enigma under center. On the positive side of things, hes accounted for 23 touchdowns, but hes completing only 53.5 percent of passes for 189.9 ypg with 11 interceptions. Murphy, in addition to being a strong rusher (747 yards, four TDs), is one of the nations best all-purpose weapons, showing prowess as a receiver (25 receptions, 185 yards, TD), a punt returner (273 yards, TD) and a kick returner (415 yards, two TDs). The Tigers other effective running back, Russell Hansbrough (949 yards, nine TDs), is listed on the injury report with an ankle issue but is probable for Saturdays matchup. Mauks primary target in the passing game is Bud Sasser, whos tallied 65 receptions for 904 yards and nine touchdowns. Jimmie Hunt has also been stellar out wide with 34 receptions for 529 yards and seven scores. Missouri has achieved such great heights this season behind the strength of its defense, which ranks 13th in the nation in points allowed (19.7 ppg) and 16th in yards allowed (331.1 ypg), while forcing 22 turnovers. Kentrell Brothers and Michael Scherer are two of the best tacklers in the SEC with 103 and 100 stops, respectively. Shane Ray is an elite pass rusher with 20.5 TFL and 13.5 sacks, while Markus Golden (16.0 TFL, 8.5 sacks) also gets plenty of pressure in the backfield. Braylon Webb anchors a strong secondary with 62 tackles and four interceptions. A.J. TORONTO -- After watching Paul Rangers head hit the glass, Toronto Maple Leafs players witnessed their teammate getting wheeled off the ice at Air Canada Centre on a stretcher. Before finding out that the veteran defenceman was "stable, conscious and alert" at a local hospital, the Leafs were left helpless to worry at the first intermission. "Its not a good feeling," winger Joffrey Lupul said. "He obviously didnt look great when he was leaving the ice. So youre trying to clear your head and focus on the next period. But you cant lie -- obviously part of you is wondering whats going on with him." Ranger suffered the injury with 4.1 seconds left in the first period when he was boarded by Tampa Bay Lightning forward Alex Killorn. It looked like the 29-year-old turned at the last second before Killorn finished his check, and then Rangers head made a violent collision with the glass and he went down to the ice. From Leafs goalie James Reimer to Lightning coach Jon Cooper, there seemed to a consensus that Killorn was not trying to injure Ranger on the play. "Its kind of a scary moment, one of those plays where I commit to hit someone without knowing if they are going to turn, so its just an unfortunate play," said Killorn, who added that he left Ranger a voice-mail message. "He kind of, as Im going in to hit him, makes a quick turn play and Im already committed at that point. Im trying to think of what else I could have done, in my head you look back to prevent that, but its just a tough, quick-bang play." Killorn was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct that the Leafs were not able to score on. It was expected that the NHLs department of player safety would take a look at the play, though that is standard procedure, especially when that kind of punishment is handed out on the ice. Any further discipline for Killorn was certainly not a prevalent post-game topic after the Lightnings 5-3 victory over the Leafs. Instead, there was concern over Rangers condition. Ranger was down on the ice for roughly seven minutes as medical personnel broought out a stretcher and officials decided to play the final few seconds of the first period at the start of the second. Jeremy Hill Jersey. Leafs players huddled around close to end boards where he went down, while Lightning players Ryan Malone, Teddy Purcell, Mike Kostka and Nate Thompson remained on the ice and watched from afar. "When that stretcher comes out thats, I think, a whole nother level when you realize the severity of it," Leafs winger Mason Raymond said. "Obviously were just hoping the best for him right now." Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos, who had a hat trick in his seventh game back after missing four months with a broken leg, expressed empathy but saw no malicious intent on Killorns part. "Those are the plays we are trying to get rid of -- its such a bang-bang play, obviously Killer didnt mean to do it," Stamkos said. Toronto defenceman Tim Gleason, who was on the ice with Ranger when the incident occurred, said a similar thing happened to him during the pre-season when he suffered a concussion. "It probably doesnt look like much, but all it takes is a little bit," Gleason said. "Its a fast game, so it looked like he was going kind of face toward the glass or body toward the glass, I guess you could say. It just took a little extra nudge." Leafs coach Randy Carlyle got a look at a replay during the first intermission but didnt have a chance to study it. At first glance, he said it looked like a "textbook" hit from behind. Reimer called it "just one of those tough plays." "I dont think he meant to dummy Range from behind," he said. "Just one of those quick plays in hockey where the puck was there, he kind of turned around and he kind of came with speed. I dont think anyone tries to injure another person or hurt someone like that. Its too bad." Ranger, who was dressed for the 48th game this season, has four goals and eight assists. The 29-year-old made his return to the NHL this season after leaving his last team, the Lightning, abruptly early in the 2009-10 season. CLEVELAND -- Brian Hoyer has held off rookie Johnny Manziel for at least another week. Aaron Rodgers Womens Jersey . Browns coach Mike Pettine has chosen Hoyer to start at quarterback ahead of Manziel in Clevelands second exhibition game on Monday night at Washington against Robert Griffin III and the Redskins. Pettines decision is somewhat surprising since he has stated that the quarterback competition is "open" and Hoyer started the preseason opener last week at Detroit. Pettine has said the two quarterbacks will share the snaps with Clevelands first-team offence against the Redskins. "Its just something right now where we are comfortable with Brian going out there to start the game," Pettine said Thursday. "I think its a little overblown as to who the starter is going to be. The key component, as Ive stated earlier this week, is that we are going to balance the reps. "We will play it a little by ear as it goes on, we havent truly decided as far as the rotation but the goal is, for when we look at the stat sheet at halftime, that they both have the same amount of repetitions and hopefully they both get a good amount of work." Earlier this week, Pettine did not know if the quarterbacks would rotate by series or quarter. Pettine did say Clevelands starter would play "in the neighbourhood" of a half. Hoyer and Manziel have been competing for the starting job since training camp opened last month, and their back-and-forth battle appears to be headed into its final days. Neither QB has taken control of the job, leading to endless speculation about who is leading and who needs to make up ground. Working exclusively with Clevelands starters last week, Hoyer, in his first game action since sustaining a season-ending knee injury in 2013, completed 6 of 14 passes for 92 yards and set up two field goals. Manziel, the immensely popular first-round pick from Texas A&M, only played with the second-stringers and completed 7 of 11 passes for 63 yards. He also rushed for a team-high 27 yards on six carries. Manziels pro debut helped NFL Network set a ratings record for an exhibition game. Pettine said he had no issues with Manziel starting against the Redskins in a nationally televised game expected to draw a large audience. "Im not concerned about Johnny on a big stage," he said. "Hes proved throughout his career he can handle it." Hoyer began camp with a lead on Manziel, but the former Heisman Trophy winner has been closing the gap as he learns offensive co-ordinator Kyle Shanahans detailed system. On Tuesday, the team signed veteran quarterback Rex Grossman, who has played under Shanahan and should be able to help Hoyer and Manziel get more comfortable with the offence. Pettine wants to name his starter for the Sept. 7 season opener at Pittsburgh before the Browns third preseason game on Aug. 23 against St. Louis. Its possible the QBs performances against the Redskins could factor heavily into Pettines decision. NOTES: The Browns did not practice Thursday. Theyll return to the field on Friday morning. ... The team signed LB Caleb McSurdy, originally drafted by Dallas in 2010. The 6-foot-1, 241-pounder spent his rookie season on injured reserve and part of the 2013 season on the Rams practice squad. "Every time he fights he gets better and better," White said of Demetrious Johnson this week. "You talk about legacies - his legacy is going to be as the guy who built this division." Known in the cage as "Mighty Mouse," Johnson will look to continue that work on Saturday night at UFC 174 when he defends his title against Ali (Puncher) Bagautinov in the octagon at Rogers Arena - the first time a 125-pound division bout will anchor a pay-per view card. "Its awesome," said the five-foot-three Johnson. "The UFC has given us a shot to headline a big pay-per view so Im pretty pumped to be the man to front that bill. Hopefully we can put on an exciting show on Saturday." Johnson (19-2-1 all-time) won the UFCs inaugural flyweight title back in 2012 and has defended it three times since, including a knockout of Joseph Benavidez in December. The 27-year-old who fights out of Parkland, Wash., said the pressure of a pay-per view spectacle doesnt add any pressure to put on a show. "My jobs to go out there and fight," said Johnson, who has a record of 7-1-1 in UFC. "If you look at all the flyweight fights, there hasnt been one boring one. Obviously theres boring fights in every single division. "But I havent sat there and watched a fight and thought, Man that was pretty boring." Johnson said the five-foot-four Bagautinov (13-2, 3-0) will pose a unique challenge because the 29-year-old Russian specializes in Sambo fighting, a form of mixed martial arts that he has never faced. "In order to keep my belt Ive just got to go out there and be myself and just fight," said Johnson, a heavy favourite in the eyes of bookmakers against the fourth-ranked challenger. "Regardless of whatever happens with this fight, whether I win or lose, the same thing is going to happen (afterwards). Im going to go home, relax and get ready for my next fight, whether its be defending my belt or trying to get it back." Saturday nights co-main event has Canadas Rory (Ares) MacDonald taking on Tyron (The Chosen One) Woodley in a welterweight matchup between the No. 2- and No. 3-ranked challengers for Johny Hendricks belt. "Its the biggest fight ever for (MacDonald) and Woodley," said White. "Saturday night is the night that both these two have got to go out and make people want to see them fight for the title." The soft-spoken MacDonald — who was born in Quesnel B.C., but now fights out of Montreal and was mentored by Georges St-Pierre - said the Woodley fight is a chance to show he belongs at the top of the 170-pound division. "Its a big opportunity. Every fight you take is a big opportunity, but this on in particular," said the 24-year-old. "Im facing a very talented opponent and Im very excited to be matched up against someone like that and challenge my techniques against his." MacDonald (16-2, 7-2) lost to Robbie Lawler in a split decision at Novembers UFC 167, but rebounded to take a unanimous decision against Demian Maia at UFC 170 in February. "Losing can be a good thing in the long run for a mixed martial artist," said MacDonald. "You learn your weaknesses and turn them into strengths.&" A technically sound fighter who learned his craft at the famed Tristar Gym alongside St-Pierre in Montreal, MacDonald said he believes hes ready to take his game to the next level. Paul Hornung Womens Jersey. "I want people to talk after my fights and be like Wow thats another Rory MacDonald I havent seen. Thats the best Rory MacDonald Ive seen so far. Thats my goal for this fight." White said MacDonald needs to start turning some of the talk and hype surrounding his talents into consistent performances. "Rory has these moments where he comes out and does nothing," said White. "The fight isnt exciting. He doesnt seem like hes got that killer instinct to finish a fight and get to that next level to be everything that GSP said about him." The 32-year-old Woodley (13-2, 3-1), a former All-American wrestler, scored a technical knockout of Carlos Condit at UFC 171 in March and expects MacDonald to be the most well-rounded fighter he has faced. "Rory is a guy who started doing mixed martial arts all together," said the St. Louis native. "I think thats the biggest challenge. He spent quite a bit of his youth as a teenager training (in) mixed martial arts. Hes had a great camp to train out of, hes had a champion to train under. I think those are the threats, but in actuality Ive had other fights and other fighters whove been a little bit more threatening than Rory. "If you cant really threaten me to freakin knock my head off like certain other guys Ive fought, I just dont get that anxiety." Like MacDonald, Woodley added that he also sees Saturdays bout as a stepping stone to an eventual shot at the UFC welterweight title. "I plan on every fight from now on being me fighting for the title or defending the title," he said. "Im just mentally getting prepared for that. I know that I have to beat guys like him consistently." Its expected that Saturdays crowd at Rogers Arena should be on the side of the B.C.-born MacDonald, but his American opponent, perhaps naively, disagreed. "I really just dont think Rory MacDonald has this huge following in Vancouver like people think," said Woodley. "Hes not Georges St-Pierre. This is not Montreal. "Vancouver fans like MMA and they might like me, they might like him, but I think they respect what I bring to the table and they respect that I respect him, and I think thats enough." White called that view a little far-fetched. "I think hes super delusional if he thinks thats the case," White said with a smile. "Were in Canada, man. Let me tell you what — Canadas going to be cheering for the Canadian." Saturdays card also includes: light heavyweight Ryan (Darth) Bader against Rafael (Feijao) Cavalcante; heavyweight Andrei (The Pit Bull) Arlovski against Brendan (The Hybrid) Schaub; light heavyweight Ovince Saint Preux against Ryan (The Big Deal) Jimmo of Saint John, N.B.; welterweight Daniel Sarafian against Kiichi (Strasser) Kunimoto; womens bantamweight Valerie (Trouble) Letourneau of Montreal against Elizabeth Phillips; bantamweight Yves (Tiger) Jabouin against Mike (The Hulk) Easton; lightweight (Ragin) Kajan Johnson of Burns Lake, B.C., against Tae Hyun (Supernatural) Bang; bantamweight Roland Delorme of Winnipeg against Michinori Tanaka; and lightweight Jason Saggo of Toronto against Josh Shockley. NEW YORK -- Mark Sanchez has a chance to take the lead in the New York Jets tightly contested quarterback competition. Harry Carson Giants Jersey . The team announced Thursday that Sanchez will start over rookie Geno Smith for the preseason home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night. The decision came a day after coach Rex Ryan said Smith had a "brutal" practice in what was his "worst day" of training camp. The rookie threw four interceptions, including three in 11-on-11 team drills. Smith is also dealing with a sprained right ankle that hobbled him early in the week, although he insisted it wasnt affecting his performance. Ryan, who was scheduled to speak to the media later Thursday, said it was clear to him that Smith is "not 100 per cent." It was not immediately certain if Smith would play at all Saturday night. The Jets could rest him until the third preseason game next week against the Giants. Greg McElroy, also dealing with an ankle injury, and Matt Simms are the other quarterbacks on the roster. Sanchez started the preseason opener at Detroit last Friday, in large part because he is the incumbent heading into his fifth season. He got off to a terrible start, with an interception returned for a touchdown, but rebounded with a solid performance that was capped by a TD pass to Jeff Cumberland. Smith had no turnovers in his debut, which was cut short when he rolled the ankle on a scramble in the third quarter. Offensive co-ordinator Marty Mornhinweg also said this week that he didnt get a good chance to evaluate Smith in the preseason opener because he was tinkering with several different aspects of the offence while the rookie was in. Sanchez followed up the preseason opener with a good week of practices, while Smith was hobbled and pushed through the injury. "I think it went about as well as it could," Sanchez said Wednesday of the competition during camp. "I felt good throughout the duration of camp. I thought I threw the ball well. I was accurate. I did my best to take care of the ball and move the team down the field. I thought we did that really well in spurts. I thought we got a little more consistent as things went on. We just have to keep improving. I felt fine with the rotation. "Hopefully soon theyll make a decision and well roll." Even though this is Sanchezs second straight start in the preseason, Ryan said Wednesday that the plan against the Jaguars is not necessarily an indication of which quarterback leads in the competition. But, if Sanchez plays well and Smith doesnt take any snaps, it would appear the veteran would have the edge. Smith, who was cleared by team trainers early in the week, had not missed any time on the field. He worked mostly with the first-team offence Wednesday and appeared to move around with only a slight limp at times. "I havent really been trying to use it as an excuse," Smith said. "Ive been going out there and giving it my all, and I think Ive done a good job of just pushing through this week." The Jets break camp at SUNY Cortland on Thursday. Sterling Shepard Jersey . There was a massive meltdown in Minnesota on April 17 and another blown opportunity a few days later in Cleveland. The Toronto relievers took it on the chin again Thursday as the Baltimore Orioles turned a close game into an 11-4 rout at Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays wasted a quality six-inning effort by Drew Hutchison and fell back to the .500 mark by losing the rubber game of three-game series. Baltimore scored five runs in the seventh inning and added four more in the eighth for the blowout win. "Theres going to be some blips every now and then," said Toronto manager John Gibbons. "I still think our bullpen stacks up as good as anybody out there." Several relievers had blips on this night. Neil Wagner lasted just one out before being pulled. Brett Cecil (0-1) didnt even manage an out, allowing four earned runs, two walks and two hits. Esmil Rogers worked the rest of the seventh inning and pitched the eighth, giving up three earned runs and five hits. "Its only April, youre not going to be perfect every time," Cecil said. "I didnt feel like I had a good feel for anything. I was pulling my cutters, my curveballs were up and not as sharp." Jonathan Schoop homered and David Lough had three of the Orioles 14 hits. Bud Norris (1-2) allowed five hits, three earned runs and a walk over six innings for Baltimore (11-10). Nelson Cruz scored twice and drove in two runs while Chris Davis and Adam Jones had three RBIs apiece. "We know these guys are going to score runs whether its early or late," Norris said. Toronto (11-11) did most of its damage in the second inning. Dioner Navarro put the Blue Jays on the board with a solo shot for his first homer of the season. Juan Francisco followed with a single and scored when Colby Rasmus belted a two-run blast. Baltimore had some chances early on but Hutchison was locating his fastball on both sides of the plate to keep the Orioles at bay. The 23-year-old right-hander had nine strikeouts for the second straight game. "I dont go out there trying to strike people out, I go out there trying to command the ball and attack the strike zone," Hutchison said. Odell Beckham Jr Youth Jersey. "And when you get ahead of guys, you put them away. Thats all that is." The Orioles finally got to Hutchison in the fifth when Schoop opened the frame with a solo homer. Lough reached on a walk, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice fly and scored on a Davis single. Hutchison struck out Jones to get out of the frame with the lead intact. "Hutch gave us that big start we were looking for, we just couldnt take advantage of it," Gibbons said. "Then the game got away late there." The Toronto bullpen also struggled in a 10-8 loss to the Orioles a night earlier. It was the first time Baltimore has scored 10 runs or more in back-to-back games since August 2008. "We can string some hits together and get the home run any time," Jones said. "Our lineup is scary and its fun to see it click the last couple of nights." Norris settled down after his rough second inning. He faced the minimum 11 batters until hitting Encarnacion with a pitch in the sixth inning. After the game, Gibbons said he wasnt worried about his bullpen, which had a strong season last year before fading late in the campaign. This seasons low point came in a 9-5 loss to the Twins a week earlier. In that game, Minnesota scored three straight runs on wild pitches by Torontos Sergio Santos and the bullpen issued a team-record eight walks in one inning. The struggles continued against the Orioles and things dont get easier with the reigning World Series champion Boston Red Sox in town for a weekend series. "Its still a good bullpen," Gibbons said. "(The Orioles) found a couple holes, but they kept the pressure on us all night." Notes: Cecils season-opening streak of 8 2-3 consecutive scoreless innings came to an end. ... The Blue Jays challenged a hit batsman call in the eighth inning. After a review of almost two minutes, the call stood. ... Left-hander Mark Buehrle (4-0) is scheduled to start Friday night against Bostons Jake Peavy (0-0). ... Toronto fell to 4-5 at Rogers Centre this season. ... Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista had an RBI single in the eighth inning and has now reached base in all 22 games this season. ... Announced attendance was 16,283. ... BARCELONA, Spain -- Goalkeeper Victor Valdes may have played his last game for Barcelona after tearing a right knee ligament during Wednesdays league win over Celta Vigo at Camp Nou. Phil Simms Giants Jersey . Barcelona said the injury will require surgery, which would likely rule him out for the rest of the season. The 32-year-old Valdes has said he will leave Barcelona after this season when his contract expires. "This is painful news and is too high a price to pay for these three points," said Barcelona sports director Andoni Zubizarreta. Valdes right knee buckled when he came down after jumping to block a routine free kick. He managed to gather in the ball but then fell to the turf and called to be substituted. The Spanish international was carried to a cart and then shuttled off the pitch with his gloved hands covering his face. Backup Jose Pinto took his place in the 22nd minute with Barcelona leading 1-0. Barcelona went on to win 3-0 with two goals by Neymar and one by Lionel Messi. Valdes was taken to a hospital for tests that determined the severity of his injury. Valdes has played a crucial role in Barcelonas rise to the top of European football over the past decade. In his 12 seasons with Barcelonas first team, Valdes has won three Champions League crowns, six Spanish leagues, and two Copa del Rey titles, among various other trophies. Valdes was also expected to compete with Iker Casillas for the starting job for Spain at this summers World Cup. Barcelona is trying to defend its Spanish league title. It has also reached the final of the Copa del Rey and the quarterfinals of the Champions League. It will now have to rely on the 38-year-old Pinto as it reaches the final stretch of the campaign. Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino said that the club would not look to make an emergency move to replace Valdes, meaning the young and untested Oier Olazabal will serve as Pintos backup. "We wont sign a goalkeeper. We will finish the season with this group," Martino said. "I am not one to believe in bad luck, but at this stage of the season I thought everything that was to happen had already occurred. I was wrong. Its a big blow but this team has rolled with punches for some time now and we will pull through this." Pinto has played 15 games this season, with a record of 12 wins, one draw and two losses. He had played in the Copa del Rey and for Valdes in the league and Champions League when he was injured for eighth games earlier this season. Pinto gave his team, and the Camp Nou crowd, another scare in the second half when he slid into the goalframe, hitting his left knee on the upright. But after a brief spell gathering himself on the ground he was able to continue. The veteran made four noteworthy saves to keep a clean sheet for the hosts. Lawyers for Sharper, who played in the NFL from 1997 to 2010 primarily with the Green Bay Packers, said they would prove that any sexual contact Sharper engaged in was welcomed. "All of these were consensual contact between Mr. Sharper and women who wanted to be in his company," said attorney Leonard Levine. But a prosecutor pointed out the many investigations against Sharper in places including Tucson, Ariz., Las Vegas and New Orleans, and asked a judge for $10 million bail. The judge rejected that as excessive, though increased it from $200,000 to $1 million. "The court considers these crimes quite serious and has to protect the public," Superior Court Judge Renee Korn said. Sharper, wearing a grey suit and black t-shirt, came to court with his lawyers and a bail bondsman who immediately arranged to post his bail. The judge ordered Sharper to remain in Los Angeles, stay away from nightclubs and not be alone with any woman he did not know before October, when the first allegations emerged. The judge set a court date for April 15 to schedule a preliminary hearing. Korn rejected a bid by defence attorney Blair Berk to shut down the release of information in the case. "Were asking to litigate this in a court of law, not by Twitter feed and entertainment shows," said Berk. The latest allegations surfaced in a Miami Beach police report released Thursday. Lawrence Taylor Jersey. It was filed Jan. 19 — more than a year after the alleged attack. No charges have been filed but Detective Vivian Hernandez said the investigation remains open. The report states that the accuser and two friends went to a club in the fall of 2012 and met Sharper and another man. All five left the club at approximately 4 a.m. and Sharper drove them all to his condo. The victim admitted to being extremely intoxicated. The victims two friends told her the next day that she went into a bedroom with Sharper and he closed the door behind them. The friends said they heard her telling Sharper "No, no. Stop, I dont want to." They began knocking on the door, entered the room and attempted to take the victim home. The victim cant remember what she said except that she wanted to sleep. The victim said she awoke around 9 a.m. to find her pants off and Sharper having sex with her. She said she asked "whats going on" and Sharper got up and put on a pair of shorts. Sharper told her they didnt have sex. He then walked her to her car in a parking garage. The victim said she went to be examined a week later. She made the police report after a friend saw that Sharper was arrested for sexual battery. If convicted in the California case, Sharper could face more than 30 years in state prison. Sharper was selected All-Pro six times and chosen for the Pro Bowl five times. He played in two Super Bowls, one with the Packers as a rookie and a second with the Saints. Too bad his contract has become a GMs nightmare. Although the Los Angeles Kings decision to place Richards on waivers was primarily a salary cap move, there is a sad reality at the heart of the story. The fact of the matter is the former All-Star forward who became a champion in L.A. simply isnt earning his keep these days. Richards was placed on waivers Monday and there was never a chance he wouldnt clear. Carrying an annual cap hit of $5.75 million through the 2019-20 season, the contract signed with Philadelphia in December 2007 has made Richards a wealthy man, but to NHL GMs the mammoth deal is an albatross around the 29- year-olds neck. Reports out of Los Angeles suggest Kings GM Dean Lombardi tried his best to deal Richards over the weekend, but nothing materialized. When Lombardi realized he couldnt dump Richards salary on another team via a trade, the decision to waive him became necessary. The deadline to claim Richards was Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET, and, as expected, no takers came forward. The Kings now can assign Richards to their AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, and see $925,000 of his cap hit come off the books. It may not seem like much, but even the tiniest bit of relief helps the cap- strapped Kings. Still, Lombardi has to be kicking himself for not using a compliance buyout on Richards when he had the chance. The NHLs collective bargaining agreement allowed teams to rid themselves of unwanted cap hits following the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. To many in the media, it seemed like a foregone conclusion Lombardi would buy out Richards and make him a free agent, especially since the summer of 2014 marked the last chance for NHLs teams to use compliance buyouts. Instead, the GM opted to keep Richards in the fold and bet on the forward regaining his old form, and now it seems like a rare error in judgment from Lombardi. Of course, Lombardi was aware of Richards decline, but he chose to keep him around because of the intangibles he brings to the table. The former Flyers captain has a reputation as a guy who puts the goals of his team first while his personal achievements place a distant second. Youre loathe to ever give up on that kind of player, its very difficult to find that special ingredient, Lombardi said last summer while explaining why he declined to buy out Richards. Even through his negatives this year, who rises to the occasion in the end? Time and again he shows up at critical moments. There is little doubt Richards, who turns 30 in a few weeks, played a positive role in Darryl Sutters locker room during the Kings championship runs in 2012 and 14, but its clear the head coach is depennding less and less on the veteran when it comes to actual playing time. Sean Taylor Womens Jersey. When Richards came to L.A. in a trade with Philadelphia during the summer of 2011, he was seen as a potential missing piece for a Kings team with plenty of young talent and that proved to be true, in the short term at least. Richards averaged 19 minutes, 30 seconds of ice time per game in the 2012 playoffs, as only star centerman Anze Kopitar and captain Dustin Brown received more playing time among Kings forwards. During last seasons run to the Cup, however, his ice dropped to 15:32, leaving Richards 14th on the team and seventh among forwards. The trend of decreased playing time has continued this season with Richards logging 13:41 of ice time on average through 47 games. His production has fallen off, too, as Richards has managed only 15 points and the normally reliable two-way forward also is sporting a minus-seven rating. Lombardi spoke Monday to the Los Angeles Times about the decision to waive Richards and used a baseball analogy to try to make sense of his embattled forwards struggles. Mike, through his career, has shown he can be a .330 hitter, 80 RBIs, an All- Star player, Lombardi said. Maybe at this stage, maybe its not fair, but I still think he is capable of being a .280 hitter and (can) do a lot of those things for you that only he can do. Lets face it: right now hes batting .200. I dont see any reason why he cant get back to that. Hes gotta do what hes gotta do. For me, the world of the NBA offers the best comparison for Richards, who always seemed like the NHLs version of Allen Iverson. While Iverson was blessed with superior athletic ability that resulted in him getting selected No. 1 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers, Richards also was a first-round pick by the Flyers and became the face of a Philly franchise. Also like Iverson, Richards off-ice habits led him to spar with the Philadelphia media, but few people ever questioned either players work ethic when it came time to play a game. And although both Iverson and Richards were undersized for their respective sports, neither man ever blinked when it came time to pay a physical price for their teams. Sadly, its beginning to seem like the parallels may not end there. The wear and tear eroded Iversons ability until eventually he became a shell of his former self and quietly faded out of the NBA. Only time will tell if Richards can avoid a similar fate, but his struggles over the past two seasons are not a promising sign. Still, the veteran can count his coach among the folks who still believe he can get his career back on track. Lots of players go on waivers. Lots of players clear waivers, Sutter said. And lots of players still have great years in front of them. Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays avoided arbitration with pitcher Marco Estrada and Canadian outfielder Michael Saunders on Friday by agreeing to terms on one-year contracts. Julius Thomas Jaguars Jersey . Estradas deal was worth US$3.9 million while Saunders will earn $2.875 million. Also Friday, the Blue Jays signed infielder Munenori Kawasaki to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training and outrighted right-hander Cory Burns to triple-A Buffalo. Estrada, a 31-year-old right-hander, was 7-6 with a 4.36 earned-run average last season with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Blue Jays acquired him Nov. 1 in a trade for first baseman Adam Lind. Estrada made 18 starts and 21 relief appearances last year, when he made $3,365,500. He is 23-26 with a 4.23 ERA over seven seasons with Washington and Milwaukee. Saunders, a 28-year-old Victoria native, was acquired Dec. 3 in a trade with Seattle. The Mariners picked up pitcher J.A. Happ in the deal. Saunders made his major-league debut with the Mariners in 2009 and spent parts of six seasons with the team. He earned $2.3 million in an injury-plagued 2014 season, when he hit .273 with eight homers and 34 RBIs. Over 553 career big-league games, Saunders has a .231 average with 51 homers and 182 RBIs. Kawasaki hit .258 and had 17 RBIs in 82 games with the Blue Jays last season. Burns spent last season in the minor leagues at the double-A and triple-A level. Custom Jaguars Jerseys . Harrison Barnes had 15 points and Reggie Bullock scored 11 for the Tar Heels (17-3, 4-1 ACC), who took the court for the first time without starter Dexter Strickland. The junior guard tore his right ACL last Thursday at Virginia Tech and will miss the rest of the season. LAS VEGAS -- T.J. McConnell laid out like a baserunner diving headfirst into a base. He missed the ball, but, after landing with a thud, jumped up and raced the other direction. Aaron Gordon, who did get the steal because of McConnells effort, flipped the ball ahead and Arizonas point guard ran under it, scoring an easy basket in transition. The play, and countless others like it in a spirit-crushing rout over Utah, let the rest of the Pac-12 field -- and the country -- know that one of the nations best defensive is in high gear for the post-season. Playing with a feverish intensity from the opening tip, Arizona raced through the record book and overwhelmed the stunned Utes in a 71-39 rout on Thursday to match the most lopsided game in Pac-12 tournament history. "We were locked in," Arizona coach Sean Miller said. "Everything that we wanted to do defensively, we were able to do it." Nick Johnson scored 14 points, McConnell 13 and Gordon added 11 for Arizona, which shot 53 per cent. That was just a side note to what the Wildcats were doing defensively. After playing two close games against Utah during the regular season, top-seeded Arizona (29-3) opened the tournament with a have-to-see-it-to-believe-it defensive performance. Energized by a raucous crowd that made it feel like the McKale Center, the Wildcats were at their lane-jumping, shot-contesting best against the Utes (21-11) to move into Fridays semifinals against Colorado or California. Arizona jumped on Utah early and had stamped its name in the record books by then, setting marks for fewest points allowed, fewest field goals (12) and lowest shooting percentage (25). The Wildcats held the Utes to 13 points in the first half, another record, and matched UCLAs 32-point win over Oregon State in 2006 to move into Fridays semifinals against Colorado or California. Jordan Loveridge and Delon Wright, Utahhs leading scorers, combined for seven points on 1-of-4 shooting and Utah lost by 13 fewer points than its 10 previous losses combined. Yannick Ngakoue Womens Jersey. "When we get stops and get rebounds and get the push, our athleticism is really at play," Johnson said. "I think finishing with dunks and around the basket gets everybody going. Arizona had hoped to make a statement in the Pac-12 tournament to earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. The Pac-12 regular-season champion Wildcats certainly did in their tournament opener, playing with an intensity Utah had no chance of matching after playing a close game against Washington the night before. The crowd at MGM Grand Garden Arena started chants of "U of A! U of A!" long before the opening tip and the Wildcats turned the game into a rout not long after the ball went up. Racing out for dunks and 3-pointers in transition set up by their climb-in-your-jersey defence, the Wildcats stormed past the Utes with an 18-2 run that put them up 22-6. Arizona kept its foot on the Utes behind its defence, contesting every shot, pass and dribble. The Wildcats held Utah to 5-of-19 shooting while forcing eight turnovers in the first half. Loveridge and Wright, who combine for over 31 points per game, took four shots and had no points between them. "They were really putting on a defensive clinic in the first half," Utah centre Dallin Bachynski said. Second half, more of the same. Utah missed its first 11 shots -- its first field goal came 9:15 in -- and at one point had five players on the court who had yet to score in the game. Yep, it was that bad. The only thing in doubt at that point was whether the Utes would get to 30 points. They got there with 4:17 left, but, boy, was it ugly. "They took pride in guarding us," Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak said. "They took the life out of us." Switzerland won the Davis Cup first-round tie against Serbia after Marco Chiudinelli and Michael Lammer beat Nenad Zimonjic and Filip Krajinovic in doubles for an unbeatable 3-0 lead on Saturday. Keyshawn Johnson Youth Jersey . Switzerland faces Belgium or Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals in April. Serbia dropped into the World Group playoffs in September. A confident Chiudinelli and Lammer defeated veteran doubles player Zimonjic and young Krajinovic 7-6 (3), 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2. The Serb pair fought hard and appeared even, forcing a tiebreak in the first set and winning the second. But Zimonjic and Krajinovic failed to convert two break points at 5-5 in the third set, allowing the Swiss to regain confidence and cruise to victory in the fourth set. "We wanted to get the three points, we have the victory already on Saturday," Lammer said. "We are in the quarterfinals for the first time in a long time, which is very exciting for Switzerland." Serbia captain Bogdan Obradovic said: "Our guys did their best, but didnt have luck." On Friday, Swiss stars Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka won the opening singles. Federer was making his first Davis Cup appearance since 2012. Serbia, last years finalist, was playing without its three top players, Novak Djokovic, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki. The second-ranked Djokovic decided to rest after losing to Wawrinka in the Australian Open quarterfinals, while Tipsarevic was nursing a heel injury and Troicki was serving a 12-month doping ban for failing to appear at a test. That meant 102nd-ranked Dusan Lajovic was Serbias highest-ranked team member. Coach Obradovic said he hoped the top players will be back next year. SALT LAKE CITY -- Trey Burke figured he had just enough time to make the move hed been wanting to use all game. Otis Sistrunk Jersey . "Id been taking that 8-foot jump shot pretty much all night and I wasnt really driving all the way that much," Burke said. "So, in my mind, I thought he was going to go for my shot and contest it. I hit him with the hesitation and got a better shot." Burke barely beat the shot clock on a driving layup over Kemba Walker with 19 seconds left and scored 21 points to power the Utah Jazz past the Charlotte Bobcats 83-80 on Monday night. "He milked the clock very well, was able to attack and made a big shot for us," Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said. "He continues to learn lessons and get better every night." And as Burke improves, so do the Jazz, who are 5-1 when he scores 20 points or more. "It was a grind-out game and Trey made the critical play there at the end," teammate Gordon Hayward said. "Playing in tight games like this helps you grow as players and as a team. We need all the experience we can get." Matched against another 6-foot-1 sparkplug in Walker, Burke faked a shot, hesitated and drove the right side of the lane, releasing the ball just before the shot clock buzzer to give the Jazz a three-point lead in the closing moments of an often listless game. The ball took flight just in time over Walkers outstretched arms. "Kemba had taken a look at the shot clock on the other end, so he knew I didnt have much time," Burke said. "It was a matter of me staying poised because I only had 1 1/2 or 2 seconds to make my move." Alec Burks had 14 points, and Derrick Favours and Marvin Williams added 13 apiece to carry the Jazz to their 10th straight win over the Bobcats. Gerald Henderson had 19 points, none in the fourth quarter, and Al Jefferson and Walker both scored 18 in the Bobcats first stop on a four-game Western Conference swing. The Jazz held Charlotte to 37 per cent shooting and spoiled Jeffersons return to Utah, where he spent the last three seasons. "I just missed some easy shots, especially the one I missed when we were down one. We dug ourselves in a deep hole and had to fight all the way back," said Jefferson, who was 8 of 23 from the field. The Bobcats, unable to sustain any offensive efficiency most of the game, suddenly found some accuracy in the fourth quarter. Walker scored five straight points in a 7-0 run that brought Charlotte to 63-60, but then missed a couple of jump shots. "We were kind of moving slowly all game. But we made a push there at the start of the fourth quarter to get us right there at the end of the game," Henderson said. After seven misses to start the final period, Burke finally scored for the Jazz on a jumper from the wing. Josh McRoberts acrobatic tip-in, however, tied the game at 65 with 5:58 to play. The Bobcats took their first lead since the first quarter at 77-76 after Ramon Sessions was blocked from behind by Hayward on a fast break and Walker put the ball back up and in. Hayward then drove and bounced a pass to Favours for a dunk. After Jefferson came up short on a baby hook, Burke drove the lane and just beat the shot clock with his key layup to give the Jazz an 80-77 lead. The Jazz clinched the game at the line on successive rebound fouls, with Favours making one and Hayward converting a pair with 2.8 seconds left. Jefferson made a half-court shot at the buzzer for the final margin. After a 1-14 start to the season, the Jazz have become healthier and Burke has brought some stability to Utahs offence. The Jazz are 6-5 in their last 11 games. On the other side, the Bobcats have been close in several games but unable to close them out. Their last six losses have come by an average of 3.3 points. "Its a make-or-miss league and they made it and we missed. Thats happened to us the last three nights. Weve gotten good shots by the right people and if were going to win, theyre going to have to go in the basket," Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said. The Bobcats have lost four of five overall and now face three more Western Conference teams, against whom they are 0-4 on the road. Walker has shot 16 of 54 in the past three games but seemed determined to make a difference down the stretch. He scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, but Burke countered on the other end. "The other players and Coach told me to stay aggressive and to pick and choose my spots," Burke said. "I really didnt let those early misses discourage me today. I continued to attack and keep the defence on their heels." The Jazz beat the Bobcats 88-85 on Dec. 21 in a very similar matchup in which both teams seemed to be going through the motions for much of the game. INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts owner Jim Irsay is known in NFL circles as a tough businessman and eccentric billionaire who enjoys interacting with fans about his beloved team and favourite songs from bands like the Beatles and the Grateful Dead. He may end up adding convicted felon to the mix. Irsay was pulled over near his home in suburban Carmel just before midnight Sunday by police who said they found multiple prescription drugs inside his vehicle. He was spotted driving slowly, stopping in the roadway and failing to use a turn signal, and police said Irsay failed several roadside field sobriety tests before he was arrested. The drugs werent associated with any of the pill bottles found inside, police said. Some werent even in bottles. The 54-year-old Irsay, who acknowledged a painkiller dependency more than a decade ago, faces preliminary charges of misdemeanour driving while intoxicated and four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance. If Irsay is charged and convicted on the felony counts, he could face six months to three years in prison on each count. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Andre Miksha said no decision had been made on formal charges and a hearing was set for March 26. Irsay, whose mug shot was posted on websites for millions to see, said nothing as he left the Hamilton County Jail after posting bond Monday. A short time later, he tweeted: "Deepest thx to family, friends, fans, colleagues for the messages of support, thoughts and prayers. Impossible to tell u how much this means." An NFL spokesman said Irsay is subject to discipline but didnt elaborate on what that might be. Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand was suspended for 30 days and fined $100,000 in 2010 for violating the NFLs personal conduct policy following his guilty plea to driving while impaired. Current and former NFL players were clearly watching the case with interest. "I want to see what the NFL does about this Jim Irsay situation if a player loses a game check no matter the amount he should lose a game day," Atlanta Falcons wide receiver White tweeted. "Im guessing a million dollar fine will come which is nothing to a man that makes billions." White, accused earlier this year of failing to appear in court for speedingg and tinted window citations, added: "I dont think Irsay is a bad guy I actually like him as an owner but it was a bad mistake. Tyrell Williams Youth Jersey. ." Authorities would not say what drugs Irsay was allegedly caught with, but they were listed as Schedule IV drugs by the Drug Enforcement Administration. That type of drug, which includes Xanax, Darvocet and Ambien, has a low risk for abuse or dependency, according to the DEA. Irsay acknowledged in 2002 that he had become dependent on painkillers after several years of orthopedic operations but said he had overcome the problem after undergoing treatment. The DEA investigated the case, but local prosecutors at the time said they saw no reason to charge Irsay. In October 2013, Irsay tweeted that "I dont drink ... havent in over 15 years." Irsay became the Colts owner in 1997 after the death of his father, Robert Irsay, and a lengthy legal battle with his fathers second wife. Forbes magazine has estimated Irsays net worth at $1.6 billion. He helped build the Colts into a top NFL team over the past decade behind quarterback Peyton Manning, now with Denver, and was a key player in the drive to bring the Super Bowl to Indianapolis two years ago. He is working with some success to rebuild the team behind young quarterback Andrew Luck while coping with a painful divorce that follows a decade-long separation from his wife of 33 years. Irsay has cultivated a relaxed image that fans have responded to. Irsay has said the public wants owners who are "down to earth" and hes done his best to keep his fans up to date on his team -- and lots of other things. "Dont ever mix NiQuil and Ambien...itll give U gas and u might end up on Capitol Hill," he once tweeted. Irsay has written his own poetry, songs and short stories and plays the guitar. He is an eclectic collector of everything from letters from Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson to electric guitars that once belonged to famous musicians, including one said to be the last guitar played by Jerry Garcia before he died in 1995.
