Alex Rodriguez got so upset at Wednesdays arbitration hearing, he kicked his briefcase and stormed out. Jake Butt Jersey . After the incident, he went on Mike Francesas radio show on WFAN and referred to the arbitration process as "kangaroo court" and "disgusting". He then declared this about his prospects of success: "Im done. I dont have a chance. You let the arbiter decide whatever he decides." According to A-Rod, the trigger for all this was the arbitrator, Fredric Horowitz ruling that MLB Commissioner Bud Selig didnt need to testify at the hearing. Selig, according to A-Rod, is "trying to destroy me... put me on his big mantle" as a "helluva trophy". So what does all this mean? Where is this headed? First important point: Rule #1 with judges is they hate to see a party not go through CBA-mandated arbitration. The CBA provides that this stuff first goes to arbitration (before heading to court). Judges want parties see arbitration all the way through to its logical end and be active participants in it. If a party like A-Rod doesnt do that, and the case heads to court, a judge can get real cranky in a hurry. So its best not to storm out and never come back. By failing to attend the rest of the arbitration, A-Rod may effectively be undermining the strength of his court case. Now on to Bud Selig. A-Rod was really upset over the arbitrator Horowitz agreeing with MLB that Selig didnt need to testify. The decision not to have Selig testify was probably the right one. When determining whether someone should testify, you consider the relevance and utility of the testimony. Yes, Selig is the boss. However, he didnt do the heavy lifting. Others reported to him and his testimony would have offered very little when it comes to assessing the facts and merits of the case. MLB COO Rob Manfred (whos the frontrunner to be the next Commissioner by the way) did testify and was the subject of an extensive cross-examination by A-Rods lawyers. Manfred is a key figure in these proceedings and his testimony is relevant and important; however, Seligs is not for the purpose of the arbitration hearing. Horowitz probably concluded that Selig couldnt add anything. It will be a different story if the court case gets any serious traction. In court, expect A-Rod to call everyone under the sun from Selig to Youpi. So whats next. It would be a surprise to see A-Rods legal team completely abandon the hearing. Whether they do or not, the arbitrator Horowitz will still make his decision based upon the merits of the case. If MLBs allegations go unchallenged, then the arbitrator may declare the allegations to be true. As well, electing not to return would undermine the court case. So from the standpoint of the litigation matter as a whole, its in the best interest of A-Rods legal team to return to arbitration so expect them to head back. This case is far from done. There is still a lot of legal wrangling ahead with no end in sight. Ending a unified protest in Uruguay by everyone from Suarez to teammates, fans and even the countrys president that the star striker had done nothing wrong, the Liverpool player on Monday offered an apology to Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini. "I deeply regret what occurred," Suarez said in a statement posted on Twitter. "I apologize to Giorgio Chiellini and the entire football family. ... I vow to the public that there will never again be another incident like (this)." The Uruguay striker was banned for four months from all football by FIFA for biting the shoulder of Chiellini during the teams 1-0 win over Italy in their group-stage game in Brazil. The incident was not spotted by the referee, and the Uruguayans victory sent them through to the second round while Italy was eliminated. It is the third time Suarez has been banned for biting an opponent, after similar incidents at both Ajax in the Dutch league and Liverpool in the English Premier League. Chiellini responded on Twitter shortly after Suarez posted his statement, accepting the apology. "Its all forgotten," the Italian wrote in English. "I hope FIFA will reduce your suspension." Suarez had originally denied wrongdoing in a written response to FIFA, and had been staunchly defended by teammates andd Uruguayan officials. Demarcus Walker Jersey. President Jose Mujica referred to FIFA as "bunch of old sons of whores" as he welcomed Uruguays team back from the World Cup on Sunday. He also referred to FIFAs stiff ban as "fascist," though he said that Suarez could have been sanctioned with a lesser sentence. Suarez was named the player of the year in the Premier League this past season after scoring 31 goals to lead Liverpool to a second-place finish. He led the league in scoring despite missing the first five games of the season for serving the last part of a 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during the previous campaign. The Japanese ace fell one out shy of a no-hitter for the second time Friday night, giving up a ninth-inning single to David Ortiz in the Texas Rangers 8-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox. An error was charged to Rios after official scorer Steve Weller looked at replays and conferred with several others because of the significance of the play. "I should have taken control of that ball," Rios said. "We were camped under the ball, so it can be called an error." SYRACUSE, N. Mitchell Trubisky Youth Jersey .Y. -- Ninth-ranked Syracuse beat Colgate for the 48th straight time in the series between upstate New York schools, and Orange coach Jim Boeheim seemed OK with another so-so performance by his young team. C.J. Fair scored 20 points and freshman guard Tyler Ennis hit four 3-pointers as the Orange won 69-50 on Saturday. Syracuse (3-0) dominated the glass 52-34, including 26-7 on offence rebounds, its active defence forced 21 turnovers that led to 18 points, and the Orange outscored the Raiders 30-10 inside. "It was a learning experience. We were pretty solid defensively," Boeheim said. "Offensively, we got the ball inside. There were more positive things." And a few negatives, to be sure. Ennis was 4 for 6 from behind the arc for his first 3s of the season, but the rest of his teammates were a paltry 3 for 18 from long range as Colgate focused on sharpshooting Trevor Cooney and Fair. Michael Gbinije had 11 points in 18 minutes and Cooney scored 10 for the Orange. Colgate led for much of its first game of the season and had six players score in double figures. It also led the Orange in the early going before Syracuse used its superior athleticism to take control. Ethan Jacobs topped Colgate with 13 points and Austin Tillotson, a transfer from Monmouth who had 14 points and nine assists against Wake Forest, finished with nine points and four assists. "I thought offensively we moved it well," Jacobs said. "We needed to get it into the zone more. I think we got some good shots at times." Pat Moore, who sank 5 of 6 from beyond the arc against Wake Forest, made his first two long-range attempts against Syracuse and the 6-foot-11 Jacobs hit another for a 15-11 lead. The Orange missed six of their first seven free throws. Fair hit five of his first nine shots while the rest of his teammates were 2 for 11. "We practiced against seven guys in the press and its still not the same." The Raiders trailed just 36-26 at the break due in part to Syracuses 9-for-20 start from the free-throw line. Winless in his first five starts of the 2014 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season, Steckly returned to a track where hed won three of the previous five series events. Make that four of six. The Milverton, Ontario, native raced the No. 22 Canadian Tire/Sylvania Dodge to his 16th career victory in Saturdays National 250 from Autodrome St-Eustache. Steckly now has four wins and top fives in all six career starts at the flat .4-mile oval. "I just like coming here," Steckly said of St-Eustache. "Its a real tight flat oval, and we usually have a good setup coming to this track." Eighteen-year-old Alex Guenette crossed the line second, followed by L.P. Dumoulin, Anthony Simone and Jeff Lapcevich. Noel Dowler, Mark Dilley, Andrew Ranger, D.J. Kennington and J.R. Fitzpatrick rounded out the top 10. Rookie Alex Labbe won his first series pole award in qualifying earlier in the day in just his seventh career start. Labbe led the field to green but was quickly overtaken by Steckly on the backstretch. Labbe stayed close early on, but ultimately exited the event due to problems with his suspension. Steckly led the first 104 circuits before pitting under caution. He was able to move back to the front on Lap 152 and, with the exception of Guenette on Lap 219, he led the balance of the event. "The car was just awesome," Steckly said. "I was just patient the whole night and didnt abuse the car. Well just take the win and move on." Guenette matched his career-best finish, set the first time in this event a year ago, and matched earlier this year at Circuit ICAR. "I pushed real hard to try to pass Scott [Steckly], but I finished second to him again this year," Guenette said. "Hopefully, soon enough we will be able to pull a win." With a fourth consecutive podium finish, Dumoulin extended his advantage in the season points standings to 251-234 on Fitzpatrick. "Its awesome for us," Dumoulin said of his third place finish after the team struggled a bit earlier in the day. "Weve had a really good season so far and we want to keep it that way." Saturday was the first top-five finish of the year for Simone and the second in four starts for Lapcevich. The event featured nine lead changes among six different drivers and was slowed by six caution flags. The Formations After losing 1-0 to the Los Angeles Galaxy in Carson, California, last weekend, Vancouver Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson chose a different tactical formation for the rematch at BC Place. The Whitecaps lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with a diamond midfield, with two changes from the previous match; Matias Laba returned from suspension and Kenny Miller started the match, replacing Kekuta Manneh and Sebastian Fernandez in the starting XI. The Galaxy lined up with the same lineup and formation that took the pitch the previous week, matching Vancouvers 4-4-2 midfield diamond. The Game The Galaxy have for many years been the standard by which every team in MLS is judged. They are well organized, tactically disciplined and, in Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan, have two of the most dynamic attacking players in the league. Bruce Arena is arguably the best coach in MLS and he showed his pedigree with his game plan against Vancouver. The Galaxy encouraged the Whitecaps to have the ball at the back, and as soon as either of Vancouvers central defenders - Jay DeMerit of Andy OBrien - had the ball, LA applied immediate pressure. This disrupted the Whitecaps, as they werent able to effectively move the ball out of the back. When the Galaxy were in possession, both Keane and Donovan dropped into midfield when the opportunity arose. This encouraged Baggio Husidic, Stefan Ishizaki and Marcelo Sarvas to make penetrating runs from midfield, which caused Vancouver problems defensively. Far too often, Russell Teibert and Gershon Koffie were narrow defensively, leaving too much space for the Galaxy to exploit in wide areas. This was the case when the Galaxy opened the scoring in the first half. Matias Laba vacated his central position to put pressure on Galaxy fullback, Dan Gargan, who had acres of space on the right flank to deliver a cross to the back post. Labas enthusiasm meant the Whitecaps had no midfield presence in the penalty area to deal with Ishizaki or Donovan, who had drifted into midfield. The lack of midfield defensive cover meant that the Whitecaps were outnumbered in their own penalty area when the ball was delivered. Defensively, the back four were culpable for not dealing with the cross from Gargan, as well as for not marking effectively in the penalty area. When Husidic headed the ball back across goal, every Whitecaps defender got caught ball watching, with Ishizaki lurking near the penalty spot. Given that Laba was out of position on the left - and no other midfielder slid in to cover his defensive responsibilities, Ishizaki was left with a free header from six yards out to open the scoring. Worryingly for Vancouver, Donovan was also in a prime scoring position, completely unmarked. A series of defensive mistakes that individually, might not prove costly. But collectively, these mistakes lead to goals being conceded. At the halftime break, Robinson made a bold move - which proved to be the correct one - by making two substitutions. Jonny Leveron and Kekuta Manneh came into the match, replacing Andy OBrien and Russell Teibert. Leveron immediately improved Vancouvers ability to move the ball out of the back and into midfield, and Manneh provided an attacking threat that was missing in the first half. This threat was further amplified when Erik Hurtado replaced the largely ineffective Pedro Morales part way through the second half. Both Manneh and Hurtado stretched the Galaxy back line with their speed and direct play. It was Hurtados forward run that played a role in Darren Mattocks equalizer, and after Robbie Keane had put the Galaxy back in front, it was Manneh who drove home Vancouvers second tying goal. The Whitecaps deserve credit for building a squad of players rather than just focusing on improving their starting eleven. In every game this season, Vancouver have had options on the bench that could change the game, and Saturdays game was an example of how Robinson used those options effectively. There will be many fans calling for Manneh - who was Player of the Match in my eyes for his 45-minute performance - to get a run of games in the starting lineup now. But those fans need to be careful what they wish for. The biggest challenge that all young players face is finding a level of consistency from game to game. Manneh faces this same challenge, and despite his bright performance against the Galaxy (as well as a good performance as a substitute against Chivas USA in the second week of the season), I feel that Robinson is doing the right thing by keeping the reins on Manneh as a first team regular. It is far better to have a player succeed in the long-term, rather than to have him fizzle out because he was rushed into the first team. The Positives One of the criticisms levied against former head coach Martin Rennie was that he could be indecisive. Many felt that Rennie waited too long in games to make his substitutions, thus reducing the impact of the players he brought on to change the game. This criticism cannot be levied against Robinson. The first-year coach made a bold move taking off OBrien and Teibert at the half. Robinson also altered Vancouvers tactical approach during the second half, changing their 4-4-2 midfield diamond to a more conventional 4-4-2, with the central midfielders operating as double pivots. Both Manneh and Hurtado were bright spots for Vancouver in the second half, as was Leveron. Defenders get paid to prevent goals, but the Hondurans ability on the ball is what Robinson is looking for from his central defenders when the Whitecaps are in possession. Because of this, Leveron will be first choice for Robinson in that position in the long-term, and could very likely replace DeMerit or OBrien in Vancouvers starting lineup for their next match against Real Salt Lake (Saturday, April 26, 9:30pm ET, 6:30pm PT, TSN). The Negatives Defensively, there were all kinds of problems for the Whitecaps on both of the Galaxys goals. For starters, Vancouver was very narrow in midfield and never got to grips with the problems caused by the movement from Keane and Donovan. This gave the Galaxy the freedom of the flanks, which allowed for uncontested delivery into the penalty area on both goals. At the back, the partnership of Jay DeMerit and Andy OBrien is fraught with issues. Neither player is especially quick, but their experience should be enough to see them cope with this handicap. But as neither player has Leverons technical ability or passing range, the Whitecaps are hamstrung when it comes to playing the ball out of defence when they are paired together. This puts immense pressure on Vancouvers midfielders, as their opposite numbers know that if Vancouver are going to get the ball forward, it will have to come through midfield. "The win means everything to me right now because thats what we play for is to win. To have Augusta as a reward for that win is amazing." In September, Jones lipped out an 8-foot birdie putt on the last hole of the BMW Championship -- a putt that would have earned him a trip to next weeks Masters by sending him to the Tour Championship. Kuchar went on to bogey the final hole of regulation after sending his second shot into the water. That set the stage for the playoff in the soggy conditions at the Golf Club of Houston. After I first came here and we met each other, I talked to David and told him about my situation." McClain said that he was born with a slight case of spinal stenosis. "What happened to David felt so real to me," said McClain, who started 10 games for the Ravens last season before getting hurt, and had 52 tackles and a forced fumble. "I was told that I would never play again," he said. "David is a young man with a lot of talent. Its a wild situation how this happened." McClain did not have surgery to correct his problem. "I spent three months, had a test, waited another three months, had another test," McClain said. "I dont know if it was toughness or ignorance, but I didnt know much about it to be scared. I had to confront my situation and have been moving in the right direction." McClain has not had to endure another burner or stinger as Wilson had last Tuesday. "Sometimes, you have to put your future in the hands of nature and God," McClain said. "Playing again was something I just needed to do in time. I was focused on coming right back. I havent had another stinger in a long while and I dont plan on having another." Still, McClain feels bad for Wilson. "My thoughts and prayers are with him 100 per cent," McClain said. Several of Wilsons teammates expressed confidence that the team has depth at the position. "He always came out with a smile on his face," running back Peyton Hillis said. "The whole week, weve been like that. We still think we have a strong running back group. We have a group of guys who can produce. We have power backs who can get yardage when we need it. Sterling voluntarily went to the doctors at the request of his wife, according to a person with knowledge of the proceedings who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the details publicly. A third doctor reviewed the two doctors findings as well as Sterlings brain scans and concurred with their conclusions that he "lacks the capacity to function as trustee." Donald Sterlings attorney, Maxwell Blecher, contested the doctors findings in remarks Tuesday to The Associated Press. "Anybody at his age level on a brain scan would probably show some impairment. But that doesnt mean you forget where your car keys are and youre incompetent," Blecher said. "There isnt the slightest evidence hes incapable of managing his affairs."
