Bruins top prospect David Pastrnak left the ice early during Saturdays morning practice. Jordan Staal Hurricanes Jersey . According to the Bruins Blog, Pastrnak went into the boards about a half-hour into Saturdays skate, before skating to the locker room. He did not return. Pastrnak, 18, was the Bruins first-round selection at the 2014 NHL Draft. A six-foot Czech right winger, he put up eight goals and 16 assists in 36 games with Sodertalje of Swedens second division in 2013-14. He had been skating alongside fellow Czech David Krejci as well as winger Matt Fraser before leaving the session. Bruins coach Claude Julien said after practice that Pastrnak tweaked his shoulder. According to a tweet from the Bruins official Twitter account, Julien doesnt think its serious but said hes "very, very doubtful for Sundays scrimmage". Pastrnak was recently named the Bruins top prospect by TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button. "Hes very smart and anticipates opportunity where he can threaten," Button said of Pastrnak in TSN.cas Bruins season preview. "He also has very good quickness in his skating and is capable of beating out defenders to space. And with his quick hands he can get a shot off quickly or make a deft pass in traffic. He has lots of confidence in his skill and competes to make a difference in the game." Nathan Gerbe Hurricanes Jersey . -- A.J. Burnett was happy to escape from New York. Lee Stempniak Jersey .Y. -- The "for sale" sign is up at the Buffalo Bills with the hiring of financial and legal advisers who may begin talking with prospective buyers within the next month. http://www.hockeyhurricanes.com/james-wisniewski-hockey-jersey/ .C. Lions. The clubs former starting quarterback, assistant and head coach returned Thursday as its receivers coach. TAMPA, Fla. -- The Phoenix Coyotes went extra time to get a much needed victory. Radim Vrbata scored the lone shootout goal to lead the Coyotes past the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 on Monday night. Vrbata beat Ben Bishop with a backhand. Mike Smith stopped all three Lightning shootout shots. Brandon McMillan, Martin Erat and Mikkel Boedker scored for the Coyotes, who trailed eighth-place Dallas by one point in the Western Conference. Phoenix was coming off a 3-2 loss Saturday at Washington, a game which the Capitals had three unanswered third-period goals. "Were right in the hunt," Smith said. "Were in the thick of things, too, and every point matters right now. So I think you see a desperation from guys on the ice, lying down, blocking shots." Ondrej Palat got the Lightning even at 3-all with his second goal of the game, coming from the low slot with the Tampa Bay net empty and 37.2 seconds left in regulation. Palat also had an assist. "I thought we did a lot of things well tonight," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. "Even though they got a late one on us, we found a way to get points, and thats the biggest thing about our season right now. We need points every night." Tampa Bay, 1-4-2 since the Olympic break ended, also got a goal from Tyler Johnson. After Erat scored following an errant defensive zone pass by Lightning defenceman Victor Hedman 2:13 into the third, Boedker put the Coyotes ahead 3-2 with a rebound goal at 7:48. Bishop ended up out of position when Hedmans pass on Erats goal took a bad bounce. "We were just way too lackadaisical," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said of Erats goal. "The third one, weve run that coverage a thousand times. Its a blown assignment. Those dont go in in midget hockey, let alone the NHLL. Jake Bean Hurricanes Jersey. Or they shouldnt, anyway." Palat gave the Lightning a 2-1 lead from in-close off a pass from Ryan Callahan with 52.3 seconds left in the second. Johnson scored his fourth short-handed goal and 20th overall this season to put the Lightning up 1-0 at 11:26 of the first. With Steven Stamkos off for hooking, the rookie went around stumbling defenceman Keith Yandle and put a backhand past Smith. After not having a short-handed goal last season, Tampa Bay has nine in 2013-14. The Lightning have a short-handed goal in three straight games and six of their past 15. McMillan tied it at 1 on a rebound goal 61 seconds into the second after Bishop stopped Yandles shot. Tampa Bay defenceman Sami Salo left after three shifts in the first period with a lower body injury. Stamkos was pointless in his third straight game since returning from a broken right shin that sidelined him for 45 games. "Its going to take him a little time to get back to normal," Cooper said. Stamkos played 23:31 and had two shots. NOTES: Boedker stopped a 13-game goal drought. ... The Lightning will unveil a statue of former captain Dave Andreychuk in a pregame ceremony April 5 before hosting Dallas. It will depict Andreychuk hoisting the Stanley Cup over his head after the Lightning won it in 2004. ... Phoenix C Martin Hanzal has resumed skating, but missed his fourth consecutive game with a lower body injury. He had a goal and three assists in the Coyotes 6-3 victory over Tampa Bay Nov. 16. ... Coyotes D David Schlemko (lower body injury) is returning to Phoenix for treatment. ... Coyotes D Brandon Gormley made his NHL debut. ... Vinny Prospal was at the game scouting for the New York Rangers. The forward announced his retirement following a 16-year NHL career in January. TORONTO - A field of 12 Canadian-bred three-year-olds will do battle today at Woodbine in the $500,000 Breeders Stakes, the third jewel of Canadas Triple Crown of Racing. Jarrad Davis Lions Jersey . The 124th edition of the Breeders, at one and one-half miles over the E.P. Taylor Turf Course, can be seen live on TSN at 4:30pm et/1:30pm pt. The winner earns $300,000. All horses carry 126 pounds. There is no Triple Crown on the line this year, though. Filly Lexie Lou won the first leg, the famous Queens Plate on July 6, but did not contest the second leg, the Prince of Wales at Fort Erie on July 29, which was won by Coltimus Prime. It marks the 11th straight year without a Triple Crown champion in Canada. Wando was the last to achieve the impressive three-race sweep in 2003. However, there is one horse in this years Breeders who has competed in the first two legs and accredited himself well. That is Ivan Dalos homebred Amis Holiday, who finished a closing second in the Plate, one and one-half lengths behind Lexie Lou, then was third in the Prince of Wales, four and one-quarter lengths behind Coltimus Prime. Although hell making his turf debut, the son of Harlans Holiday-Victorious Ami sizzled five furlongs in a turf workout last Sunday for trainer Josie Carroll, clocked in a bullet 59 1/5 seconds, handily. Said Carroll, a two-time winner of the Queens Plate with Edenwold in 2006 and Inglorious in 2011, "We made a last minute decision to enter him. He worked extremely well on the turf. He really seemed to take to it and we thought he deserved to give it a try. He came out of those last two races really well or we were going to wait for the Ontario Derby (September 21)." Amis Holiday, the 2-1 morning line choice who won last years Grade 3 Grey Stakes, is the fields leading money winner with $448,392 and will once again be handled by jockey Luis Contreras, who won the 2011 Breeders aboard Pender Harbour. Carroll will also saddle another Dalos homebred, Keen Gizmo, a one-time winner in eight starts, who was most recently third in a one mile allowance while making his turf debut, with Omar Moreno named to ride. Stronach Stables impeccably bred Unikat, trained by Brian Lynch and ridden by David Moran, will also command plenty of support at the windows, listed as the 4-1 second choice. The son of Galileo-Dreamtheimpossible enters off an impressive three and three-quarter length score in a mile and one-quarter maiden turf contest on July 9. His only previous starts came on turf at Gulfstream Park in Florida during February and March. Stronach has won three Breeders (Blitzer, 1992; Basqueian, 1994; Royal Challenger, 2006), while Lynch has won two (Royal Challenger, 2006; Miami Deco, 2010). Miami Deco, the last maiden to win the Breeders, was also its highest-priced winner, paying $132.10 to win. Lynch will also saddle J.M. Stritzl Stables Squeeze the King, with Eurico Rosa da Silva up. The son of Niigon, who has been supplemented to the race for $12,500, recently broke his maiden on turf on July 12 after just missing in his career debut in June on Polytrack. Rosa da Silva won last years Breeders on favoured Up With the Birds. Trainer Mark Casse, a six-time Sovereign Award winner who finally celebrated his first Plate win this year with Lexie Lou, will send out Stoneway Farms East Side, as he seeks a second Breeders win following Marchfield in 2007. East Side, a son of turf champion English Channel, with Justin Stein up, is a one-time winner in four outings and was most recently sixth to Coltimus Prime in the Prince of Wales. Completing the field is two-time winner Niigon Express, who finished a credible fifth in the Queens Plate and will have three-time (Wando, 2003; Royal Challenger,2006; Marchfield, 2007) Breeders winner Patrick Husbands aboard; Sine Metu, also a two-time winner for trainer and co-owner Tom OKeefe; one-time winners Bangkok and Big Red Bugsy, another supplemental entry, and maidens Interpol, Milwaukee Flash and Smart Spree, who was most recently fourth in the Prince of Wales and is trained by Mark Frostad, a four-time winner of the Breeders (Charlies Dewan, 1995; Chief Bearhart, 1996; Portcullis, 2002; Irish Mission, 2012). In addition to Amis Holiday, three others - East Side, Milwaukee Flash and Niigon Express will be seeing grass for the first time. Last years Breeders winner, Up With the Birds, who is competing Saturday in the Arlington Million in Chicago, went on to earn Sovereign Awards as Canadas top three-year-old colt and Horse of the Year for 2013. Coming off a disastrous 2013 year, relative to expectations perhaps the most disappointing in franchise history, the club could be dealing with significant upheaval if theres continued, sustained underperformance. Gibbons sat down with TSN.ca before Thursdays Grapefruit League game against Houston to talk about his team, in which he espouses confidence. To listen to the interview, click here. TSN.ca: John, as we sit here, two weeks from tonight you guys will be flying to Montreal for the final two exhibition games of the spring. GIBBONS: Cant wait. TSN.ca: Old stomping grounds for you, right? An ex-Met, did you have some fun in Montreal in your day? GIBBONS: Yeah, you know I wasnt up with the Mets long but I made a few road trips to Montreal. I loved it. I really did. Its a neat city. Its a little different than what were used to or what Im used to but we always had a good time there. Good people. I enjoyed hopping on that subway, riding it to the stadium there so I have some good memories of that place. TSN.ca: Parlez-vous Francais? GIBBONS: Poquito. Oh thats not French, okay. You learn a lot of Spanish around here. Ill put it that way. TSN.ca: Yeah, theres no question about that in your clubhouse. So were three, three and a half weeks in since all the regulars got here. The tone of camp, at least from my point of view, John, is different from last years and there were a lot of mitigating factors with the WBC and whatnot last season. How do you feel camp has gone so far and where do you see your team at today? GIBBONS: I agree with you. I think theres a lot more focus and thats not just coming from the coaching end of it. I think the players are a lot more focused. Last year there was a lot of distraction. A lot of new faces were brought in and the high expectations, much more media coverage so the players were getting dragged in a lot of different directions. We had some celebrities on here. We brought in Dickey coming off a Cy Young. Of course Reyes and those guys coming in and everybody was tugging at all different angles so there were some distractions that way. Good distractions but nevertheless distractions and then of course some guys went off to the WBC and things like that. Its been a much nicer, simpler camp, a lot more low key and weve been able to get some great work in. TSN.ca: As you head into the regular season I think there are some questions about certain positions around the club. The starting rotation, especially the back end, has been a hot topic of conversation. More broadly speaking, the American League East, I think we both agree is always strong but has gotten better. Do you feel you have the quality of starting pitching that matches the quantity of the depth that youll have at Buffalo and in the lower minor leagues. GIBBONS: I think we do. Not a whole lot of change this year other than Navarro. You know, Alex was working all winter trying to bring in a pitcher or two, difference makers. We werent able to do that. It wasnt for a lack of effort. The money, the years, all sorts of things, their desire to go other places hampered that a little bit. There were a couple of trade opportunities but they wanted everybody and their brother top prospects in the minor leagues. After the trades with Florida and the Mets we gave up a lot of our top prospects so, I mean, theres no way you can deplete your whole minor league system to get guys who maybe arent difference makers. We sat tight there. The main reason behind that is we like what we have here. Theres much more depth, like you just alluded to, that we didnt have last year. If somebody falters or if theres an injury weve got some guys, some fallback plans that we think are pretty good that should make a huge difference. As of right now were still looking for that fifth starter. Weve got some guys that are pitching very good. Theres been some good competition down here. Right now, were probably only looking at one spot. J.A. Happ, now, hes been a little bit banged up with his back so at this point, on this day, hes a little bit of a question mark. Hopefully hes going to throw in the next couple of days in a minor league game. If hes fine that should solve some problems there. You know, theres some guys in here that we think are going to have some good big league careers. Now its just are they going to get that opportunity? They may get it as we break camp as we start the season this year. It may come a month in. It may come in two months. Who knows? Weve got some players here who we think are capable of winning in the American League East. Theres some great competitors and well see where it all ends up. TSN.ca: Do you anticipate Drew Hutchison breaking camp with the team? GIBBONS: Well, Im not going to say hes on the team right now but Ill tell you what, hes pitched as well, if not better, than anybody in camp and another thing he has going for him, you know hes really bounced back from that injury, but hes pitched in Toronto before and was pitching very well before he had the injury. Hes got a little experience under his belt. Hes definitely been a standout. Hes always been thought of highly in the organization. Its just basically a matter of time when hes ready again and it sure seems like, you look at it now, he should be ready to go. TSN.ca: Do you believe in the phrase, "Its early?" Especially after last year maybe you dont but getting out of the gate strong, John, aside from having more wins than losses, just setting the right tone I think would be important for you guys this year. Kenny Golladay Womens Jersey. GIBBONS: It was early three weeks ago. Its not so early anymore, a couple of weeks left. Yeah, no question, a quick, fast start is very important to this ballclub. Easier said than done, of course, you know we play some pretty good teams early. I think what it would do is give us confidence and it may quell some of the naysayers out there because until we go out and prove something on the field that were better than we were last year and we actually do have the team that we think can win here, thats always going to be hanging over our heads. These guys, theyve been working hard, theyre very focused and now the key is to come out of the gates with everything clicking. Weve got to get good pitching. Hopefully those bats are going at the right time at the beginning of the season and something thats a constant, one thing you can always control, is the way you play defense and I think that will be much, much better this year. TSN.ca: I wanted to touch on that with you because when we think of winning, youve got to score more runs than you allow and we typically always think of offense, just hit the ball out of the park or piece together runs. We dont always think of run prevention. Well cross our fingers for you guys that you have pretty good health here, and you have so far through camp and that that will carry through. But with Lawrie at third, Reyes and short and it looks like Ryan Goins at second base, as long as theyre all out there on the field at the same time, weve seen some pretty sweet double plays and some pretty nice plays made here, John. Youre going to be able to prevent more runs than you did, especially in the first half of last year. GIBBONS: We think so and we have to. You left out Melky Cabrera, who wasnt moving well at all last year and so that created a big hole out there in leftfield. With the guys you just mentioned, we think we have one of the better defenses in baseball, in our minds. As much as our starting pitching struggled last year, we didnt bail them out, we didnt help them out one bit, especially early in the season. A lot of those games, a play thats made here or there, might have got us out of an inning, a big inning and kept us in the game and we may have come back and won some of those. You look at it, you can go through any sport, if you dont play defense youre not going to win. Boston was a good defensive team last year and they won the World Series. Football, another sport I know well, the Seahawks last year, great defense, the best defense in the NFL. Theres no secret there. We think we have a good one but the key is weve got to keep the right guys on the field the majority of the season. TSN.ca: The Red Sox, maybe they didnt have the best team on paper in the majors last year but they won the World Series and there was that grind it out aspect. When youve walked around the clubhouse, talked to your players or youve had them in here one on one, do you sense that there is an unquestioned willingness to grind it out this year? Kind of a win at all costs mentality? GIBBONS: Yes, I do. Weve got a lot of proud veterans out in that room. Some guys whove had some great careers, some guys on the upswing that are going to end up having real good major league careers but everybody was a little embarrassed, the way things went last year. One thing Ill say about this group last year, through all the different changes, all the guys coming and going, there never was a lack of effort. Thats rare when some seasons go south but our guys showed up to play everyday and I tip my hat to them and thats admirable and thats the way it should be but thats not always the way it ends up. They all know they have something to prove, that were a better team than the way we played last year and I sense that. They talk about that. To get to this level as an athlete, to get to the top at anything, youve got to have some pride. We have a lot of that in that room and I think, I dont want to say necessarily that were going to surprise some people because we think we have a good team on the field, we think we had a good team on the field last year it just didnt pan out, but if we play up to our capabilities we think weve got a chance to win this thing. TSN.ca: Its an everyday game so youre always at the field and youre always thinking about, okay, what do I have to do to win today? But when you get away from the ballpark, do you think give any thought to your future and the fact that if it doesnt go well again this year, John, fairly or unfairly, itll be a hard sell to the fan base to continue with you as manager and the coaching staff? There could be changes here if it doesnt work out. GIBBONS: Oh yeah. Thats to be expected in the professional sports world. I can guarantee you one thing, I wont be here forever. Thats a fact. When that day comes, sooner or later, who knows? I dont give that much thought because I approach my job everyday to do the best job I can. I have a great responsibility to the organization whos given me an opportunity here and theres a lot that goes into that. Thats the reality of baseball. I have some fans out there but I also have a lot of detractors. When the dark clouds show up you start hearing more of those voices. If you get caught up in that kind of stuff itll paralyze you, you cant do your job so I take it all in stride everyday because I know I can do this job, I know I can run a baseball team, Ive got zero doubt in my mind about that. Things dont always work out but I think this year it will. TSN.ca: We appreciate the time, John, and all the best this season. GIBBONS: Thank you, Scott. SAN FRANCISCO -- Tim Hudson walked to the dugout after an impressive eight-inning performance in his Giants home debut and hardly realized 42,000 people were celebrating him with a roaring ovation. Mario Gotze Germany Jersey . "Honestly, I thought they were cheering for the mid-inning song," Hudson said. Nope. Michael Morse hit a two-run single to back Hudson as each made memorable home debuts with their new team, and Brandon Belt hit a two-run homer for San Francisco in a 7-3 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Hudson (2-0) shut down the D-backs for the second time in seven days with an eight-inning gem in his first outing at AT&T Park since agreed to a $23 million, two-year contract in November. He credits nice weather in Phoenix and the Bay Area in allowing him to work deep into the game his first two starts, a far cry from the heat and humidity he faced in Atlanta the past nine years. "Definitely Ill take these first two starts," he said. Belts drive off Trevor Cahill (0-3) gave him five homers and the Giants a majors-leading 12. New Giants left fielder Morse emphatically pumped his fist at first base after a third-inning single, then added a two-out double in the fifth. San Francisco scored four runs with two outs. Belt became the first Giants player since Jose Cruz Jr. in 2003 to hit five home runs through the first eight games. Nearly nine months after ending his 2013 season with a broken right ankle, Hudson followed up 7 2-3 scoreless innings at Arizona last Wednesday with another strong outing. He allowed three runs -- two earned -- and seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks in a 101-pitch performance. "Its hard to pitch better than he did the first two starts," manager Bruce Bochy said. Hudson stayed strong into the late innings, getting through a perfect, seven-pitch seventh with six strikes and a trio of groundballs. It was Hudsons longest outing since also tossing eight innings on June 26, 2012, with the Braves against the D-backs. He is still working to build up his fitness and stamina to avoid fatigue. "Its been a long road for me to get here," Hudson said. "Im just thrilled to be back out there pitching and competing, feeling somewhat healthy. I couldnt ask for a better start to the year." Arizona has now dropped four openers this season. The Diamondbacks lost in Australia to the Dodgers, at home to the Giants, and at Coors Field. "Can we get one more in?" D-backs manager Kirk Gibson quipped. Mark Trumbo failed to homer, ending his streak of games with home runs at four, which tied the club record. He also lost the ball in left-centre on Morses double. Brandon Crawford followed with a two-run single. "We had our chances," Gibson said. "We werent able to hold them down. We werent able to get the big two-out hits like they did." Cahill, who received no runs of support in his first two starts, gave up five runs and eight hits in 3 2-3 innings. Brandon Hicks earned the start at second base for the Giants and had a first-inning error that led to Arizonas first run. He began 2011 in the majors and made 20 starts with the Blue Jays, going 5-8 with a 5.40 earned run average before he was waived on Aug.TSNs Jack Armstrong offers his thoughts on home court advantage, the return of David West, the drama of Derrick Rose, the struggles of Lance Stepheson and the future of basketball in Milwaukee. 1. Home Court Advantage: As I sit here in Atlanta getting ready for Wednesdays Raptors game, Ive been thinking of how important home court is in the NBA. You need to look no further than Toronto and realize the impact the home crowd has had in the Raptors success these past 12 months. Ive been to every NBA arena multiple times in my 17 years as a Raptors broadcaster and Im telling you that in Toronto, youre talking about a home crowd thats awesome. Fans are knowledgeable and passionate and it shows. It surely makes a difference. 2. David West (Pacers): Likely back in lineup this week and his scoring, rebounding and leadership will be a big addition. Coach Frank Vogel has done a magnificent job keeping this team somewhat afloat. West will help stabilize things that much more. 3. Derrick Rose (Bulls): Im worn out already from this drama. Either play all out with nothing else to talk about or dont play at aall. Karim Bellarabi Germany Jersey. This soap opera is having an effect on their team despite what they say. Gotta be able to trust and rely on the fact that hes ready to roll when hes healthy. 4. Lance Stephenson (Hornets): This team has been a disappointment and misses Josh McRoberts. That being said, Stephenson has shot poorly (37 per cent) and is averaging under 10ppg. Not good enough for the investment that has been made in him. Their chemistry was excellent last season and I dont see the same flow in their offence. He hasnt brought his A game to the table and it better show up soon or theyre in trouble. 5. Milwaukee Arena: The clock is ticking to try and get a new arena deal done. If theres no new arena being funded and in the process of being built by 2017, the NBA has the right to buy the team and move it. Theyll be plenty of cities (Seattle, Louisville, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Kansas City) lining up trying to make a run at this team. Ive always enjoyed going to Milwaukee and I hope it all works out. Pressure is now on to get a deal done or theyll be gone in a few years and that would be sad. LONDON -- Doused in champagne by Arsenals victorious players, Arsene Wenger was soaked in success once again. Raekwon McMillan Dolphins Jersey . The nine-year wait for a trophy finally ended Saturday and the manager, who had felt the pressure and faced derision over the drought, could finally celebrate on the Wembley Stadium pitch. Arsenal won its fifth FA Cup trophy in Wengers 18-year reign after Aaron Ramsey struck in extra time to clinch a 3-2 comeback victory over Hull. "Its a big, big moment of happiness," Wenger said. "We waited a long time for that. But the happiness is linked sometimes with the time you have to wait for it. Thats why it was a great moment at the end of the game." Especially after Arsenal looked headed for disaster early on when its defence imploded to concede two goals in the opening eight minutes. James Chester and Curtis Davies scored for a Hull side that has never won a major trophy in its 110-year history. Santi Cazorla began Arsenals fightback in the 17th minute by scoring directly from a free kick, but Laurent Koscielny took until the 71st to equalize and force the game into extra time, when Ramsey completed a slick move to score. "This ones for the manager, for the fans, whove always believed in us as well even when things werent going as well," Ramsey said. It was Arsenals 11th FA Cup win overall, tying Manchester Uniteds record. This is a team that has played in the Champions League for 16 successive years by finishing in the Premier Leagues top four but has failed to match its talent with silverware since lifting the 2005 FA Cup. "I think it was a turning point in the lifetime of this team," Wenger said. "And to know they can win in that way was very important today." But three years after a conceding a late goal here to Birmingham in the League Cup final, this looked like being another miserable day for the Gunnerse. Arsenals defence was nonexistent, breached far too easily inside three minutes by a team that only just avoided relegation in its first season back in the Premier League. Tom Huddlestone met Stephen Quinns free kick on the edge of the penalty area with a volley that was heading off-target until Chester flicked the ball with his heel into the bottom corner of the net. Before Arsenals players could recover, Lukasz Fabianski was picking the ball out of his net again. A header from Alex Bruce, whose father Steve manages the team, hit the post and Davies fired in the loose ball from a tight angle. Arsenals fragile zonal marking system nearly gifted Hull a third in the 13th, with only Kieran Gibbs nodded goal-line clearance preventing Bruces header going in. But Cazorla gave Arsenal a much-needed spark with a piece of individual skill as the Spaniard curled in a free kick from distance into the top of the net. The search for the equalizer, though, proved frustrating with Giroud ineffective up front. But as Hull tired after the break, Arsenal seized control of the game during the second half. They were rightly aggrieved not to be awarded a penalty by referee Lee Probert when Cazorla was brought down by Davies in the area. But after Probert incorrectly gave a corner rather than a Hull goal kick, Arsenal levelled from Cazorlas set piece. Sagnas header came off Chester and dropped for Koscielny to turn the ball into the net in the 71st. Dominating an ineffective, quickly fading Hull side, the cup could have been won in the 79th but for Arsenals wayward finishing. Striker Yaya Sanogo, who had replaced Lukas Podolski, withheld challenges on the right flank before squaring to Kieran Gibbs. The left back was unmarked and had time to control the ball but managed to lift it over the crossbar from six yards out. Giroud found the target in the 82nd with a powerful strike only to be thwarted by goalkeeper Allan McGregors fine save. In extra time, it was the crossbar denying Arsenal inside five minutes after Giroud met Aaron Ramseys cross with a header. But a flowing move in the 109th ended with Girouds backheel reaching Ramsey, who slotted the winner low into the net. The title drought is over and Arsenal has a trophy to take back to the Emirates Stadium for the first time since moving there from Highbury in 2006. "We showed great strength and character today to come back to win it," the 23-year-old Ramsey said. "To score the winner in extra time is something Ive dreamed of for many, many years. Its definitely up there with the most important goals Ive ever scored." ------ Frank Griffiths contributed to this report. Cordrea Tankersley Dolphins Jersey . TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips answers several questions each week. [url=http://www.uscardinalslockroom.com/Black-Friday-Do

Posted in IYH Forums by jokergreen0220 at 08:09, Jul 11 2017

TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips answers several questions each week. Dorian Johnson Cardinas Jersey . This week topics include the new and improved John Gibbons, the new home plate collision rules and Jon Singletons controversial contract. 1. John Gibbons is not getting a lot of ink, but he is managing a first place club and hes not simply handing in a line-up card and leaving it to the players. Can you compare the current John Gibbons with the previous version of Gibbons that managed the Toronto Blue Jays to disappointment? Being a major league manager is a vey difficult job. How do you motivate multimillionaires to perform to the best of their abilities? It is not uncommon to wonder if a manager is managing better when his team is playing better. Everybody looks smarter when the team is winning. The same moves that a manager made with a losing team may work when the players are playing better. Is that better managing? I guess so. Alex Anthopolous brought John Gibbons back for a second stint as Jays manager because of the familiarity and comfort he had with him. As a young GM, Anthopolous wanted a manager whom he could trust and whom could help develop young players at the big league level. The 2013 Jays went 74-88. They started the season with great expectations, but injuries and underperformance crushed their year. Gibbons did all he could to hold things together, but as the season progressed, the losses mounted. The offence and defence struggled early on without Jose Reyes. Despite any efforts, no one could replace Reyes. Then, Jose Bautista was lost for the last month-and-a-half of the season. If a team loses its stars for months at a time, they are likely to struggle, especially if they dont have much margin for error. Gibbons did a great job in building a bullpen despite the second-worst starting rotation in the majors. This season, so much is going right and Gibbons looks smarter. He is working the match-up to his benefit using platoons when necessary. He is seemingly pulling pitchers at the right time and picking the right relievers for the necessary situations. He has worked around injuries at the closers role. When he puts the shift on for pull hitters, the opposition seems to hit it into the teeth of the defense. He shifted Brett Lawrie from third to second and handled the emotions that came with it. He is doing a heckuva job. The Xs and Os in baseball are not always that complicated. The situation often dictates the appropriate move. Where managers make their money is in creating an environment where players are held accountable and can thrive. This is where Gibbons has made his most progress. And to think there was a time when Gibbons was with the Mets and I thought he was too calm and too nice. I worried he didnt have the bite in him that managers sometimes need. He proved me wrong in his first stint, as he had a few run-ins with players and more than a few with umpires. He is calmer this time around. He is more mature. He is in control of his emotions much better now. He handles adversity with patience and ease. I dont anticipate any Shea Hillebrand and Ted Lilly-like issues now. I actually think the review system that is in place now has also helped Gibbons immensely. He doesnt have to lose his cool when he feels wronged by umpires anymore. He can just challenge the call and hope to have it overturned. This has helped him keep the environment intense without building tension. Edwin Encarnacion got off to a slow start this season, but because Gibbons had created an environment, starting last year, that allowed for progress, not perfection, it allowed Encarnacion to work out his issues and now he is thriving. The Jays are flying a bit under the radar and so is their manager. I believe teams take on the personality of their manager. The Jays personality is tough, aggressive, hard-nosed, intense, consistent and resilient. I believe in taking advantage of second chances. So does John Gibbons. 2. Oakland As left fielder Yoenis Cespedes made a great throw this week to nail a Los Angeles Angels runner at the plate, his league leading 8th outfield assist. It was a nice demonstration of the new play at the plate rules, with Derek Norris just barely having his foot in front and applying the tag without fear of getting hammered. What are your thoughts on how it is working so far and are any tweaks required based on what you have seen? And who had the greatest outfield arm youve ever seen? When the Commissioners Office announced the new home plate collision rules, I thought they got it exactly right. They instituted rules that disallow baserunners to attack a catcher when he isnt blocking the plate and disallow a catcher from blocking the plate without the ball. These eliminated the unnecessary contact at the plate. Major League Baseball could make an instructional video for all teams to view of the play at the plate when Yoenis Cespedess laser throw from left field cut down Howie Kendrick. As catcher Derek Norris left the plate uncovered while he waited for the ball to arrive. Kendrick headed for the open plate as he should have, going in feet first. Norris caught the strong throw and applied the tag. No one was injured and we now remember the great throw and not an injury acquired by unnecessary contact at the plate. Baseball got this one right. It is a perfectly crafted rule. Cespedes certainly showed tremendous arm strength on the throw to the plate. He showed off a bit more the next night when he gunned down Albert Pujols trying to advance to third after having misplayed the ball in the left field corner. Cespedes is a five-tool player. He has average to well-above average speed, arm strength, fielding, hitting for average and power. Great arm strength is not as common as it once was. Nowadays, young player learn baseball more in batting cages than in pickup games on a field. Todays players dont long toss and stretch out their arms like they used to do. The best outfield throwing arms I have ever seen belong to Hall of Famer Andre Dawson and former Boston Red Sox right fielder Dwight Evans. I remember Dawson catching a fly ball at the warning track and the third base coach holding the runner out of respect. I remember being a kid at Tiger Stadium in Detroit and seeing Dwight Evans climb the right field wall and rob a home run and then rifle a throw to the plate to cut down the runner tagging from third. Usually outfielders with great arms dont lead the league in outfield assists because base coaches know not to challenge them. Look for Cespedes to get fewer opportunities to cut down runners after this past weeks highlights. Its a shame because it is really exciting but you cant blame the base coaches for putting up the stop sign. 3. Last week, Jon Singleton got a long-term deal from the Houston Astros before taking a big league swing. As a former GM, what are your thoughts about that strategy from the teams perspective? The Astros made a calculated decision about Jon Singleton. They weighed the risk and the reward of signing him to a multi-year deal before he ever saw a major league pitch. They considered the cost and the benefit of committing significant money to a still unproven player. In the 1990s, the Cleveland Indians were among the first teams to sign their young players to multi-million dollar long-term deals. They bought the players out of their arbitration years and a free agent year or two when possible. The players liked the deals because they got lifetime financial security early in their career and the team got a bit of a discount than if the players negotiated for contracts from year to year. Small market teams have to be creative in retaining their young players because, if not, they end up on the New York Yankees. Small market teams cant afford power in the free agent market. Power bats and power arms are the most expensive commodities in baseball. Smaller market teams need to develop their own power on their roster. When they finally get it, they need to be creative to afford it and keep it. The Astros see Singleton as a power hitter in their lineup for years to come. They realize that the young man came from very little money and might be inclined to jump at a shot at security. So they approached his agent and made a deal. The young man is guaranteed $10 million for a five-year contract. It could be worth as much as $35 million if the options get exercised on the back end of the deal. Singleton gave the Astros a discount on the contract to get security today. He may have left as much as $20 million on the table if he becomes the home-run hitter that his potential indicates. I like this deal from the Astros perspective. It is a worthwhile risk to commit the $10 million to save the $20 million that was left on the table. I understand why other players might be upset by this deal. Baltimore Orioles pitcher, Bud Norris, a former Astro, chastised Singleton, for taking a deal so much below market. He said it was selfish of Singleton to take such a club favorable deal because it will put a drag on salaries. There is no doubt that Singleton and his agent made this deal against the unions advice. The MLBPA wants every player to maximize every dollar in every contract. It is nice to see a young player and his agent doing what is right for them and not everyone else. His so-called selfishness may prove to be unselfish if it allows the Astros to keep or sign other players. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Both Singleton and the Astros see green and think it is beautiful. - The Baseball Hall of Fame turned 75-years-old this week. Happy Birthday! The museum in Cooperstown, New York is a place where the Baseball Writers Association of America has determined candidates be recognized. The criteria? Eligible candidates names need to appear on 75 per cent of all ballots cast. Writers are asked to consider candidates “on the basis of playing ability, sportsmanship, character, their contribution to the teams on which they played and to baseball in general.” These criteria have been applied in considering players for decades. Almost all of the games great players are recognized in the Hall of Fame. For the longest time, the Hall did not include many of the great Negro League players who were unable to participate in major league baseball. That has been rectified as many Negro League players have finally gotten their due. The BBWAA doesnt know what to do with the steroid era. They need guidance. Some writers vote for players who have used PEDs and some dont. Some writers dont vote for players based upon guilt by association or speculation, even when there is no failed drug test. The Hall is a museum. The definition of museum is "a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited." In other words, a museum should document history. So the Baseball Hall of Fame is a museum to document the history of the game. Isnt the steroid era part of the history of the game? The hang-up that writers and some baseball fans have with the steroid era is that the stats and numbers may not be real. How should the numbers be compared to those of previous eras? Stats and performance have been enhanced forever in baseball for one reason or another. When Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs, he never had a single at bat against an African American pitcher. He didnt face many of the best pitchers playing baseball at the time because of segregation. Werent his numbers enhanced? There was a dead-ball era where the pitchers dominated and homers were hard to come by. Some part of that was because the ball itself was different. When the equipment changed, performance was enhanced. The pitching mounds were lowered in 1969 and offensive numbers improved. This certainly enhanced performance, yet writers have not been confused about its impact on the Hall. Most of the news stadiums built in recent years have benefited offence. They are hitters parks with very little foul territory giving a distinct advantage to offensive players. This has certainly given players an advantage, yet no one factors it in their Hall considerations. Performance has been enhanced forever just in different ways. Some say that the steroid era players enhanced their performance by cheating. I understand that may be distasteful. So why is Gaylord Perry in the Hall of Fame? He is celebrated for his use of a spitball. He violated the rules to gain an advantage. It enhanced his performance. Baseball writers voted for him anyway. Baseball has now banned amphetamines ("greenies" and "red juice". These drugs fall under the heading of drugs of abuse and not performance enhancement drugs, but have no doubt they were used over the years to enhance performance. Playing 162 games in 181 days is a real grind. Many of the players currently in the Hall of Fame used greenies to recover and focus from game to game. Many of these same players are the ones who cast stones at todays cheaters who use steroids. That is the pot calling the kettle black. The Hall of Fame needs to instruct its voters on how to handle the steroid era. This era of baseball needs to be accurately documented just like every other performance-enhanced era. Why not do it now? You are never too old to change, Hall of Fame! He says so-called TRT is only one problem and he wants to go even further than the ban. "Its about time," St-Pierre told reporters at a promotional event in Montreal on Friday. "I think its a good thing." The commission voted unanimously in Las Vegas on Thursday to quit granting therapeutic use exemptions for fighters undergoing TRT. "Its not the UFC (thats) the problem," said St-Pierre. "I believe its the sport, the system." St-Pierre added he thought the ban is a move in the right direction. "I believe theres a lot more things to do. I believe they need to allow testing too -- testing by an organization that doesnt have any interest in the money surrounding the fight." St-Pierre said the decision by Nevada state regulators is "great for a lot of guys -- good, honest guys will be happy." The decision by the commission that regulates boxing and mixed martial arts in Nevada came several weeks after the Association of Ringside Physicians labelled so-called "unmerited testosterone" a health risk for athletes who practise combat sports. UFC president Dana White said he also supported the Nevada ruling and encouraged all athletic commissions to adopt the ban. "We believe our athletes should compete based on their natural abilities and on an even playing field," he said in a statement. White also said the UFC would honour the ruling in international markets, "where due to a lack of governing bodies, the UFC oversees regulatory efforts for our live events." Several UFC fighters have been granted exemptions in recent years to use testosterone before their bouts, ostensibly for medical reasons. The decision is already having effects on UFC. Vitor Belfort, who usedd TRT, dropped out of his upcoming middleweight title shot against Chris Weidman. T. J. Logan Jersey. As for his own future in the UFC, St-Pierre wasnt telling reporters much, except to say that hes in the best condition hes ever been in his life. The 32-year-old suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and did not sleep much for about a decade. "Whats changed is that Im sleeping better," he said. "Before I slept around five hours a night because of stress, but now Im around seven hours and thats made a big difference in my life." St-Pierre said hes living a more healthy lifestyle, the stress is gone and hes happier. He took a break from UFC last December for personal reasons and still hasnt decided whether he will return to the octagon. "I dont know if Im going to stop," St-Pierre said. "I dont know what Im going to do. I need a bit of time to decide what Im going to do." But he hasnt completely ruled out a career in the movies, after getting a small part as the villain Batroc the Leaper in the upcoming "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." "I dont know if Im ready to do that full-time," he said. "I dont know if Im a good actor." St-Pierre said he may have to come on as a bad guy in the ring, but thats whats necessary in his sport. "I dont believe in bad persons," he said. "I believe people are shaped by their genetic environment. "Some people say they look at a serial killer and say hes a bad person. Hes not a worse person than you are because he had been shaped by his genetic and social environment and that makes him what he is -- thats what I believe." The former champ may have hinted at his future Friday as he spent almost an hour coaching a group of 18 enthusiastic amateurs in the finer arts of ultimate fighting. The group included a number of winners of a cross-Canada contest by Bacardi Canada, one of St-Pierres main sponsors. He retired from the Anaheim Ducks last summer, wrapping up his 21-season NHL career with the team that will retire his No. 8 jersey on Sunday in a gala tribute.Selanne knows how many athletes struggle to find direction in their lives when their lifelong goals are gone. Not the Finnish Flash. Hes always moving forward.I havent really missed the game as much as I thought, Selanne said this week. I miss the boys, the locker room, maybe some good dinners on the road. But I played enough. It was a perfect time to retire. These days, Selanne can while away an afternoon sitting at an Irish pub in this upscale Orange County enclave. Around the corner, a theatre will present a special screening of a documentary about his life that evening, part of a weeks festivities thrown by the Ducks.Ive been enjoying every day, he said while knocking back a Guinness before attending the show. Living without any schedule is fun. That slot between 8 and 3 every day, its fun. ... When you wake up, you dont have to do anything. I always do, but its nice to have (the option).Selanne just might be the most beloved athlete in Orange County, where he spent 15 of his 21 NHL seasons as the biggest cold-weather sports star in a sun-kissed area. His jersey will be the first ever retired by the Ducks, who came into existence one year after Selannes career began.Tickets to Sundays game against the Winnipeg Jets — his employer for his first four seasons — are incredibly difficult to acquire. About 60 friends and family members from Finland will be in the stands, including his parents. The milestone has compelled the 44-year-old Selanne to reflect on his career, and he remains stunned by his own longevity. At the time when I came into this league, if you were a 32-year-old hockey player, you were older, Selanne said. I thought I was going to play three, four years. Maybe if I was lucky, I could play to 30.Selanne can scarcely list every way pro hockey changed during his quarter-century in the sport, starting in Finland with Jokerit in 1989. Almost every change has improved players lives, from chartered flights and safety technology to major lifestyle changes.Wed go out, and some guys would have two beers, and some would have 20, he said. After the game, youd take the helmet off and get beers, first thing. Now, its protein shakes. I dont think guys knew what was good food for you. When I came into the league, guys were still smoking. Now, I dont even know one guy off the ice who smokes.Selanne also watched the NHLs evolution from a league of freewheeling fun to a defence-first grind. He scored a jaw-dropping 76 goals in his first season in Winnipeg in 1992, a rookie record thats unlikely ever to be touched. After that, it was all downhill, he said with a grin. But hockey started changing after New Jersey won the Cup with a different style (in 1995). When I came in, there was no scouting. My third or fourth year, the coach got VHS tapes of the next team. These days, theres no secrets.Selanne can now watch the games evolution from a hockey dads perspective: His teenage sons, Eemil and Eetu, are prospects.Selanne drove an RV to San Jose for a recent tournament — although the trip mostly reminded him how much he enjoys hotels. And though he tries to avoid it, he cant help thinking sometimes about how he would have scored on chances that his kids missed.Selanne Steak Tavern, his 15-month-old Laguna Beach restaurant located one block from the Pacific, is packed most weekends with a lively crowd eating $52 rib eyes and checking out Selannes Olympic medals and the replica of the Stanley Cup won by the Ducks in 2007. Selanne drops by a few times a week, and he has been surprised to learn how the dynamics in a kitchen are familiar. Its really like a hockey team in some ways, Selanne said. I want it to be a place people love to come to work.Selanne has attended a few Ducks games this season, sitting with fellow Finnish retiree Saku Koivu. His children avidly watch every game at home, so he knows when the Ducks score a goal because theyre screaming. After several more months of relaxation, Selanne plans to return to hockey in some capacity, likely with the Ducks or the Finnish national team. He has high hopes for the current Anaheim team, which has led the overall NHL standings for much of the season, and hell be paying attention when the playoffs roll around. They look so good, and they have so much depth again, he said. Its going to be different watching them. But it was time. John Lackey Red Sox Jersey . -- Tony Finau won the Stonebrae Classic on Sunday for his first Web. Yoenis Cespedes Jersey . With its second-highest scoring total in the first half this season, Denver took a 68-51 lead at the break. Lawson helped the Nuggets get off to a strong start, scoring 17 of his points in the first quarter, when Denver opened a 41-34 lead. After Monta Ellis jumper pulled Dallas to 46-38 early in the second, Chandler shook loose for a breakaway dunk that started a 13-2 run that put the Nuggets in front 59-40. Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino intends to withdraw his name from a lawsuit against the NFL for concussions, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Joe Mixon Womens Jersey . A report in the Los Angeles Times on Monday had Marino, along with 14 other players, linked to the lawsuit. But according to the Sun Sentinel, Marino and his lawyers will be in discussions to withdraw his name. "It was never Marinos intention to initiate litigation in this case, but to ensure that in the event he had adverse health consequences down the road, he would be covered with health benefits. They are working to correct the error," a source said to the Sun-Sentinel. Marino has said in the past he had two reported concussions during his 17-year career. Nearly 5,000 other former players have alleged the NFL misled them about the long-term dangers of concussions. The NFL has denied those claims. The lawsuit doesnt specify any medical problems suffered by the plaintiffs. It seeks unspecified damages and medical monitoring. The NFL and the original group of players agreed on a $765 million settlement last August. But the settlement was rejected by a federal judge in January. The club hopes to add another win to its cause when the Calgary Flames visit Prudential Center on Monday. The Devils have posted wins in three of their last four games and are currently riding a seven-game point streak with a 4-0-3 record over that stretch. Still, New Jersey is just outside the playoff picture with 84 points, leaving the club tied with Toronto and three points behind Columbus for the Easts second wild card spot. The Devils also are four in back of Detroit for the first wild card berth. Like Columbus and Detroit, the Devils have four games remaining in the regular season, while the Maple Leafs have only three tilts left. New Jersey is the only team from that group in action on Monday. New Jersey won its second straight game on Saturday with a 3-1 road victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Dainius Zubrus scored twice and Cory Schneider stopped 26 shots to help the Devils record two valuable points. Zubrus recorded his second two-goal game of the campaign and now has 13 markers on the season. "It was nice for (Zubrus)," Devils head coach Peter DeBoer said of Zubrus. "He works hard every night and doesnt get rewarded a lot." Travis Zajac netted what proved to be the game-winner 6:34 into the second, while Schneider turned aside all eight shots he faced in the third for the Devils. Schneider has started the last three gammes for New Jersey and could get the call over Martin Brodeur again tonight. Carl Lawson Jersey. New Jersey has won two straight and three of its last four home games and is 20-10-8 in Newark this season. Although the Flames have been eliminated from postseason contention out West, the club has played with pride down the stretch and picked up a second straight win in Fridays 2-1 road victory at Florida. The win gave Calgary a 2-2-0 mark on a five-game road trip that ends tonight in the Garden State. Mike Cammalleri netted the winner early in the second period and Joey MacDonald stopped 34 pucks to help the Flames down the Panthers, 2-1. Kenny Agostino also produced his first NHL goal for the Flames, who have won six of 10. "We promised our fans and we even promised ourselves that we would play the games to win until the final second of the regular season," Calgary head coach Bob Hartley said of his team playing hard down the stretch. Calgary, which is 15-20-4 as the road club this season, beat a visiting Devils club back on Oct. 11. Sean Monahan notched the game-winning goal with 2:43 remaining for the Flames, as they downed the Devils, 3-2, at the Saddledome. PARIS -- Frances World Cup ambitions were dealt a significant blow when winger Franck Ribery failed to overcome a back injury and was ruled out of the squad on Friday. Joe Mixon Womens Jersey . Coach Didier Deschamps hoped Ribery would play a part in the friendly against Jamaica on Sunday, but the Bayern Munich winger was replaced by Montpellier winger Remy Cabella. Cabella was on the reserve list and has made just one substitute appearance for France. In another setback for Deschamps, attacking midfielder Clement Grenier was also withdrawn with a recurrence of a groin injury that has hampered him all season for Lyon. "We have to remain ambitious," Deschamps said. "Obviously with Ribery at 100 per cent were a better team, but well try and be a good team without him." The 23-year-old Grenier tore his right groin in training on Thursday and has been replaced by Southamptons Morgan Schneiderlin, who has never played for France. "Im very sad for them," Deschamps said. "I wasnt expecting this. If they were here its because I was counting on them, and the signs were very positive." Deschamps said both players were distraught when they realized they will not be on the plane to Brazil. "How do you think (they felt)? Theyre missing out on the World Cup," Deschamps said. "Of course there are worse things in life, but they are the first to be affected by it." The 31-year-old Ribery missed the previous two friendlies -- a 4-0 win against Norway and a 1-1 draw against Paraguay on Sunday -- but Deschamps was optimistic he would recover in time to play against Jamaica. Ribery had shown "positive signs of improvement" this week after increasing "the intensity of his work," Deschamps said. But that was when Ribery was training alone, and when he stepped up his routine in a bid to be ready to join in with his teammates, he suddenly pulled up in pain on Friday. "Franck had felt a lot better but his situation got much worse as we started to try and get him to take part in collective training," Deschamps said. "He is unable to train for a few weeks now and even less so to play." His final appearance of the season for Bayern was as a substitute in the German Cup final win against Borussia Dortmund on May 17. He had been rested since the 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the return leg of their Champions League semifinal on April 29. Ribery has 16 goals in 81 appearances for France and is the teams best attacking player. That mantle now rests with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. Ribery was third to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in voting for the worlds best player in January. It is a particularly bitter blow for Ribery considering how he had turned public opinion back in his favour, following a spectacular fall from grace at the last World Cup in 2010, when he was perceived to be a ringleader of Frances infamous training ground strike and banned for three matches by the French Football Federation. Deschamps must wait for FIFAs medical officers to validate his request to include Cabella and Schneiderlin in his World Cup list. They were set to join up with the squad at the Clairefontaine training camp late Friday. France flies out to Brazil on Monday, with spirits dampened following the loss of their talismanic player. The Canadiens added to their defensive depth this week by acquiring veteran Mike Weaver from the Florida Panthers.PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens are still adjusting to NHL play after a nearly three-week Olympic layoff. And it showed Thursday night. The Canadiens, playing in their second game in as many days, however, got a good performance in the end from their backup goaltender as he filled in for an injured Olympic gold medallist . Peter Budaj stopped all three shooters in the shootout and David Desharnais scored the only goal, leading the Canadiens to a wild 6-5 victory. "He battled back in the second and third and in the shootout he was outstanding," Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said of Budaj. Budaj, in his second straight start for injured starter Carey Price, stopped Penguins shooters James Neal and Sidney Crosby before denying Evgeni Malkins slap shot for the win. Desharnais, the third shooter for Montreal, slammed on the brakes at the top of the crease before sliding the puck by Marc-Andre Fleury. "I would like to have some goals back, but we scored five goals against Pittsburgh," Budaj said. "We have to learn from the mistakes we made. We have to keep going and getting better." Daniel Briere scored twice, once on the power play, and Max Pacioretty also scored with the man advantage, his 27th of the year. Brendan Gallagher netted his 15th for the Canadiens and Alexei Emelin also scored his second of the season. Budaj, who stopped 27 shots, made his second straight start after turning aside 28 shots during an overtime loss one day earlier against Detroit. "You can tell the bench guys wanted to battle back for him because he certainly worked hard," Therrien said. He filled in for Price, who was named the top goaltender at the Olympic games after going 5-0 with a 0.59 goals-against average and two shutouts, leading Team Canada to a gold medal. Price, who aggravated a lower-body injury sustained in Sochi, will be re-evaluated Friday. "Credit to the team because they stuck with it, they battled for me and we got the two points," Budaj said. Crosby, who leads the NHHL with 80 points, scored his 29th and added an assist. Josh Malone Jersey. Neal scored his 21st for his 300th career point and also had an assist, while Malkin provided two assists, both extending six-game point streaks. Olli Maatta scored his seventh of the season on the power play and had an assist, while Brandon Sutter had a short-handed goal, his 10th of the year. Deryk Engelland also scored his career-high fifth goal. "We worked hard," Crosby said. "It was a little sloppy, and a lot of special teams. ... Probably a tough first one for everybody to get into." The teams were tied at 3 after two periods and both scored twice in the third, sending the game to overtime. Three of the four third-period goals were scored by special teams units, Sutter giving the Penguins a 4-3 lead with a short-handed breakaway goal and Crosby later putting Pittsburgh ahead 5-4 on the power play. Emelin tied it 24 seconds after Sutter gave the Penguins the initial lead and Briere sent the game to overtime with his second goal of the game. With the Canadiens trailing, the Penguins Tanner Glass was issued a five-minute major for a hit on Emelin. The call was elbowing, but video replays showed Emelins stick came up and hit him in the head. "Thats why I kind of followed through the way I did, to get his stick away from my face," Glass said. "Its a hockey play, it happens. I can understand why he made the call." The Canadiens cashed in anyway, Briere tying it with his second of the game when he feathered a back-door rebound behind Fleury, who made 24 saves. NOTES: Penguins D Kris Letang spoke with reporters Thursday morning, the first time since suffering a stroke and said he will likely play hockey again, but its unclear if he will return this season. ... Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Ray Emery, Philadelphia (3) – Emery did not receive a ton of help this game. He had missed assignments in front of him and was asked to stop power play goals that were on the back door. Henrik Lundqvist, New York (4) - Lundqvist displayed good positioning all night. He made vintage Lundqvist saves in the second period on Wayne Simmonds and Matt Read. He wasnt forced to be spectacular, but was there when the Rangers needed him. Ryan Miller, St. Louis (3) - Rough start for Miller, as he allowed two goals through the body in the first period. However, he then was outstanding in the second period with three huge saves early on, and got stronger as the game went on. He had rebound issues as the game went on and allowed both Jamie McGinns goal and Paul Stastnys game-winner through the body. Antti Niemi, San Jose (3) – Niemi was solid early on, 30 seconds in, he made one of his best stops on Jeff Carter. He had a tough third period as his goals allowed to Jake Muzzin and Slava Voynov were not great. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles (1) – It was a rough outing for Quick. He faced many high quality chances but also allowed some uncharacteristic goals against; like the Marc-Edouard Vlasic shot through the five-hole. Quick was pulled after two periods of work. Martin Jones, Los Angeles (4)- Jones got barely any work in this game, but he came in and helped stabilize the Kings to try and get back into the game. Cooper Kupp Youth Jersey . It was a good start for us.Forsberg scored from the right side when Ribeiro sent a pass his way from behind the net and the rookie slipped it between Edmonton goaltender Viktor Fasth and the right post.Obviously, its really nice to get that goal — especially that late in the period, Forsberg said. You get three goals up. Its really nice, especially when it wasnt the prettiest one.Forsberg has scored in five consecutive games and has recorded 10 points in his last six games.Benoit Pouliot and Nail Yakupov had the goals for Edmonton, which had its two-game winning streak snapped. Its such a fine line between having great execution and not having it, Edmonton coach Dallas Eakins said. And we were all just a little off. Our D werent getting back quick enough. We were trying to jam it up the wall when the middle was available.Edmonton fell to 0-7-1 against fellow Western Conference teams this season.Ribeiro opened the scoring at 2:51 of the first period.James Neals shot from the right side was stopped by Fasth, but Ribeiro was in front to backhand in the rebound for his fourth of the season. It was a bad reaction, I think, offf of the first goal, Edmonton captain Andrew Ference said. I think we would have preferred to probably play a little better in the second and keep the game under control, but sometimes that happens. It was nice to respond with a good third period.NOTES: Nashville D Anton Volchenkov returned to the lineup after serving a four-game suspension for an illegal check to the head of Calgarys Michael Ferland Oct. 31. . PITTSBURGH, Pa. Mike Williams Youth Jersey . - Add Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby to the growing list of NHL players dealing with the mumps. The Penguins announced the diagnosis Sunday after holding the two-time MVP out of games over the weekend as a precaution when swelling developed on the right side of Crosbys face — swelling the team believed was related to a salivary gland injury Crosby sustained in a game against Carolina on Nov. 29.Crosby was able to skate with the team on Friday morning but was pulled from the lineup for Friday nights game against Calgary after his condition worsened. He underwent further tests that revealed the presence of the disease. He is currently in isolation but should be through the infectious stage by Monday, though the team has already ruled him out on Monday night when Pittsburgh hosts the Tampa Bay Lightning.Crosby received a booster shot against the virus before travelling to Russia for the Winter Olympics in February and initial tests done a couple of weeks ago indicated Crosby was not in any danger. It came as a bit of a surprise, team doctor Dharmesh Vyas said. Every indication was that he was well protected against the disease. The NHL is dealing with a widespread outbreak of the virus, with players from Anaheim, Minnesota, the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils among those affected. The Penguins have aggressively tried to prevent the disease from spreading, having players and staff undergo testing earlier in the month. Vyas said Crosby had no major symptoms, pointing out the swelling that usually accompanies mumps is present on both sides of the face. Crosby only had swelling on one side.He did not have a classic presentation of mumps, Vyas said. The setback for the teams second-leading scorer is the latest unusual medical development for the Metropolitan Division-leading Penguins. Forward Pascal Dupuis is out for the regular season due to blood clots. Defenceman Olli Maatta missed two weeks in November after a cancerous tumour was removed from his thyroid. Maatta is currently dealing with an unspecified injury the team said is not related to the thyroid surgery or the mumps. In our case were going through a period here thats pretty rough, general manager Jim Rutherford said. Its a period that builds character and if you can get through it its going to help you in the long run. Forrest Lamp Youth Jersey . Edwin Encarnacion hit two of Torontos season-high five home runs as the Blue Jays capped a two-game mini-sweep of Philadelphia by outscoring the Phillies 12-6 on Thursday at Rogers Centre. It was the second straight night that the Blue Jays had a double-digit run total as they extended their winning streak to five games. "Were some kinda hot right now," said Jays manager John Gibbons. Toronto (18-17) has hit at least one homer in eight straight games, a big reason why they have moved back over the .500 mark. Colby Rasmus, Juan Francisco and Adam Lind also went deep to help make a winner of R.A. Dickey (3-3). "Were swinging it good right now and everybody is feeding off each other," Gibbons said. "I would say right now its probably a good club to pitch for." Dickey had a few rough moments but his knuckleball was moving nicely and it regularly handcuffed the Phillies. He worked into the seventh inning and struck out a season-high eight batters. "Im making strides," he said. "I had a good (knuckler). I had one that was a swing-and-miss one tonight. It was comfortable out of my hand all night long." Former Blue Jay starter A.J. Burnett (2-2) was roughed up for six earned runs over six innings. He allowed nine hits and two walks while striking out four. "Balls ran over the plate tonight," Burnett said. "I wasnt on the corners at all. The hook was inconsistent. I had it at times. The bottom line is the balls werent on the corners, the ball was in the middle of the plate." Encarnacion set the tone early by blasting his 200th career homer in the second inning. "(Im) swinging at better pitches, (Im) more confident and (Im) feeling great at the plate," Encarnacion said through translator Luis Rivera. Rasmus hit a rainbow shot that barely cleared the wall by the right-field pole later in the frame. Lind added a two-run shoot in the sixth inning as the Blue Jays pulled away. Dan Feeney Jersey. "You want to come in and stop the bleeding and set the tone and that wasnt there," Burnett said. Encarnacion added a two-run shot in the seventh and Francisco tagged a solo shot on the next pitch. Jose Reyes broke out of a slump as his ground-rule double in the third inning ended an 0-for-10 skid. He stole third and came home on a Jose Bautista sacrifice fly. Reyes was at it again in the fifth inning after he was hit by a pitch. The speedy shortstop -- who battled a hamstring problem last month -- stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a Bautista groundout. "You can tell hes feeling a lot more comfortable and he was able to turn it loose," Gibbons said. The Blue Jays have won their last eight meetings against Philadelphia (15-1. They will continue their nine-game homestand Friday with the opener of a four-game set against the Los Angeles Angels. Toronto, which clobbered the Phillies 10-0 a night earlier, outhit Philadelphia 13-10 in front of an announced crowd of 18,158. The Phillies opened the scoring in the second inning and scratched out singles runs in the fifth and the seventh. Ryan Howard hit a two-run shot off reliever Esmil Rogers in Philadelphias three-run ninth inning. Dickey allowed seven hits, three earned runs and walked three batters over 6 1-3 innings pitched. Notes: The game took three hours to play. ... Olympic curling champion Brad Jacobs was in attendance. ... Toronto optioned right-hander Chad Jenkins to triple-A Buffalo before the game. ... Bautista has reached base in all 35 games this season. ... It was Encarnacions 12th career multi-homer game. ... Howard has seven homers this season. ... Dustin McGowan (2-1) is scheduled to start for Toronto on Friday against Garrett Richards (3-0). ... It was the 20,000th game in franchise history for the Phillies. The team played its first game on May 1, 1883, dropping a 4-3 decision to the Providence Grays at Recreation Park. The Anaheim Ducks open the playoffs as the Wests top seed and hope to get a quick start on Wednesday when they host the Dallas Stars at the Honda Center for Game 1 of a best-of-seven series. Quincy Wilson Colts Jersey . You can catch all of the action live on TSN with coverage beginning at 9:30pm et/6:30pm pt. Few teams looked as unbeatable as the Ducks at the start of the season. But after a dominating effort for a good part of the season, Anaheim started to slip a bit heading into the Olympic break and had posted a mark of just 14-12-3 during a 29-game span from Jan. 17-April 6. The Ducks then capped the regular season with four straight victories, but presumed playoff starter Jonas Hiller was not in net for any of those games. Hiller, in fact, did not play in seven of Anaheims final eight games and has not won since March 26. Still, head coach Bruce Boudreau is likely to go with Hiller over the inexperienced Frederik Andersen and John Gibson, neither of whom have ever played in an NHL playoff game. Hillers postseason numbers are not terrible, with the 32-year-old pending free agent having gone 10-10 with a 2.31 goals against average, .935 save percentage and three shutouts in 20 games. Given the fact that the Ducks led the NHL with 3.21 goals per game this season, Boudreau may be able to roll the dice with Hiller and hope the netminder can recapture the form that saw him post a club-record 14-game winning streak from Dec. 6-Jan. 12. Forward Corey Perry was second in the league with 43 goals to go along with a plus-32 rating, while center Ryan Getzlaf finished fifth in the NHL with 56 assists and second to only Pittsburghs Sidney Crosby in points with 87. Ducks winger Teemu Selanne is expected to retire at seasons end and the 43- year-old could have some extra juice for this postseason. He comes into the series having totaled 42 goals and 82 points in 118 career playoff games. "This is the best time for hockey players," Selanne said. "Youve got to enjoy every day and every moment. Every little thing matters. Even a little thing can turn the whole series around." The Stars overhauled their identity this past offseason in an effort to reach the postseason for the first time since 2008. It worked. Under the guidance of first-year coach Lindy Ruff and offensive threat Tyler Seguin, the Stars claimed the Western Conferences second wild card position. Sure, they got some help from a slumping Phoenix Coyotes club, which had lost seven straight before beating the Stars in a meaningless regular-season finale, and Dallas did just enough by going 3-4-0 down the stretch, but the results are in the bottom line. And what a line it was for Seguin, who the Stars acquired this past offseason from the Boston Bruins. The 22-year-old brought rumors of immaturity with him to Dallas, but with the Stars all he did was show the skill that led to him being the second overall pick of the 2010 draft. Seguin led Dallas across the board with 37 goals, 47 assists and 84 points -- all career highs -- and now brings 42 games of playoff experience to the Stars. Seguin has six goals and 12 assists in the postseason and was part of the Cup- winning 2010-11 Bruins club. His presence also helped Stars captain Jamie Benn soar to new heights. The winger set new career highs with 34 goals, 45 assists and 79 points in 81 games, and the duo of Seguin and Benn was a big reason that the Stars finished 10th in the NHL with 2.82 goals per game. Six other Dallas skaters reached double figures in goals, including Ryan Garbutt (17 goals) and Cody Eakin and Erik Cole, who had 16 goals apiece. Rookies Valeri Nichushkin (10th overall pick of the 2010 draft) and Alex Chiasson also were steady contributors and Dallas has veteran depth in Ray Whitney and Shawn Horcoff. Defensively, Alex Goligoski had an excellent campaign, with his 42 points a career high and his best total since logging 37 points with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009-10. However, inexperience could be an issue in net with No. 1 Kari Lehtonen, who owns just two career playoff games to his resume and none since 2006-07 with the Atlanta Thrashers. He was solid this regular season, going 33-20-10 with a 2.41 goals against average and .919 save percentage. Should Lehtonen struggle early, Ruff will have the option of going to veteran Tim Thomas, acquired at this years trade deadline. Thomas didnt wow in eight games with Dallas, but has outstanding playoff numbers at 29-21 with a 2.07 GAA, .933 save percentage and six shutouts. Of course, he also won the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy with Boston in 2011. The Stars won two of their three meetings with the Ducks this season, with the clubs exchanging 6-3 home victories before Dallas claimed a 2-0 win at Anaheim on Feb. 1. Lehtonen did not face the Ducks this season and is 9-7-3 with a 2.41 GAA against them in 19 career meetings. Hiller went 0-2 with a 3.91 GAA in three meetings this season, pulled in the first meeting in Anaheim back on Oct. 20. "We know them well and we?ve had some success against them," said Goligoski. "Theyre fast and theyre a bigger team, and they obviously had a great season. Were looking forward to the challenge." This marks the third all-time playoff meeting between these clubs and first since the Stars bested the Ducks in six games during the 2008 Western Conference quarterfinals. That avenged a six-game series loss to Anaheim in the 2003 semifinals. Anaheim also will host Game 2 of this series on Friday. The Ducks were 29-8-4 as the home team this season, while Dallas was just 17-20-4 as the visitors. VANCOUVER - For one game at least, Zack Kassian lived up to his billing as a power forward who can produce points. Taywan Taylor Jersey . Kassian recorded four assists to earn the first four-point night of his star-crossed NHL career Sunday night as the Vancouver Canucks rallied to beat his former team, the Buffalo Sabres 4-2. "It was one of those games (where) it seemed the puck followed me," said Kassian. "Its nice personally, but its even better we keep this streak going." The Canucks (33-30-10) have now posted two consecutive wins for the first time since mid-January. Vancouver pulled within three points of eighth-place Phoenix, and one point of ninth-place Dallas in the race for the second wild-card playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Sabres (20-43-, last in the NHL by a wide margin, suffered their eighth loss in the past 10 games as they squandered an early 2-0 lead. Brad Richardson, Shawn Matthias, Yannick Weber and David Booth, with his first goal in 33 games, scored for the Canucks, who have won five of their last eight contests. The Sabres went ahead 2-0 only 3:29 into the game, but the score was tied 2-2 after the first period and the Canucks led 3-2 following the second. "In this league you cant play good sometimes," said Sabres coach Ted Nolan. "Youve got to play good all the time. Thats a lesson to learn and something we have to do to move forward." Tyler Ennis and Jamie McBain provided the offence for Buffalo. Kassian has often faced criticism since he was traded to Vancouver from the Sabres at the NHL trade deadline in February 2012 in the four-player deal that saw former Canuck fan favourite Cody Hodgson head to Buffalo. Kassian, Buffalos top 2009 draft pick (13th overall) excelled offensively two days after saying he is playing primarily a checking role now while Hodgson is primarily an offensive player. Hodgson, Vancouvers first choice (10th overall) in 2008, went without a point while the Sabres were badly outplayed for most of the game. "Im excited for every game, but obviously you want to play hard against your old team," said Kassian. "You definitely want to get the win, but its nice when you play well individually and as a line." Matthias, who was acquired in the Roberto Luongo trade from Florida, also had two assists while Richardson had one helper. The Canucks had not posted two straight wins since beating the Calgary Flames on Jan. 18, when coach John Tortorella drew a suspension for charging their dressing room between the first and second periods, and Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 21. Vancouver goaltender Eddie Lack overcame a slow start to earn the win. After allowing goals on Buffalos first and third shots of the game, Lack was sharp and finished with 16 saves. "The team did a great job bouncing back," said Lack. "I felt like I wasnt really tracking the puck well the first half of the game but then I just kind of settled down and felt better after that." Vancouvers quick rally from its early deficit spoiled a strong effort from rookie Buffalo goaltender Nathan Lieuwen, a 22-year-old Abbotsford, B.C., native who made just his second NHL career start and third appearance after being promoted from Rochester of the AHL on March 16. He recorded 32 saves as his club was outshot 36-18. "Thats frustrating and thats hockey," he said. "You get some good bounces and you do good things and you make mistakes, so Ill definitely learn from it." Weber scored the winning goal just 1:40 into the second period as he put a shot through Lieuwens legs to give the Canucks a 3-2 lead. Sabres defenceman Mike Weber was close to his Canuck namesake on the play, but Lieuwen said the puck went straight in. "I thought I had it and, obviously, there was a hole," said Lieuwen. "I dont know what to tell you. Thats obviously one that I feel I can obviously save. What a terrible night for that to go in." The goal sullied his "dream come true" of playing in Vancouver, where he has "tonnes of family." Ennis was also left frustrated as he watched the Sabres lead disintegrate after he had McBain had put them ahead. "We heard (Lack) has been shaky, so we wanted to get on him early, and we did," said Ennis. Kassian was not around for the final horn because he took a puck between the eyes, for the second time on the night, with 1:32 left in the game. He needed "about 10 stitches" to repair a cut. "So my face isnt getting any prettier, thats for sure," he said. Notes: Vancouver lost Henrik Sedin to an apparent knee injury late in the second period as he collided with a fallen Buffalo player behind the Sabres net. "I went to hit a guy and he came back off the boards and he fell on top of me, so well see how it is (Monday)," said Sedin. The mishap occurred after the Canucks and NHL honoured the Canucks captain for his 1,000th NHL game, played March 12 in Winnipeg. NHL senior vice-president of hockey operations Jim Gregory represented the league. ... Vancouver forwards Ryan Kesler and Daniel Sedin returned after suffering injuries earlier this month, but Alex Burrows missed the game with a hand injury suffered Thursday against Nashville. ... Hodgson played his 200th NHL regular-season game. … Lack made his 35th start of the season. At the outset of the season, Tortorella indicated he would get 15-20 starts. … Buffalo defenceman Alexander Sulzer, who was acquired with Hodgson from the Canucks, missed his fifth consecutive game with an upper-body injury. … Sabres starting goaltender Michal Neuvirth, acquired from Washington at the trade deadline, also missed his fourth consecutive contest, with a lower-body ailment. … Neuvirth and Matt Hackett, who dressed as Buffalos backup, were traded for each other in the 2007-08 OHL season. Neuvirth went to Windsor from Plymouth while Hackett went the other way. Corey Davis Womens Jersey . So true. It is one thing to create a winning football team, and another to keep it winning. OTTAWA -- Henry Burris boasts an impressive CFL resume. JuJu Smith-Schuster Steelers Jersey . Over 15 seasons, hes twice won a league championship, been named a Grey Cup and CFL MVP and is one of just five players ever to surpass the 50,000-yard passing plateau. But even with 17 years of pro football under his belt -- he also played in the NFL with Green Bay and Chicago -- the 39-year-old Texan will experience a career first Friday night when he leads the expansion Ottawa Redblacks (0-2) into their first-ever game at TD Place Stadium against the Toronto Argonauts (1-2). Watch the Redblacks vs. Argonauts live tonight on TSN and TSN GO at 7pm et/4pm pt. "Ive never been in this position before," Burris said following Thursdays practice. "I played in the first Monday night game following 9/11 (Green Bays 37-0 win over Washington on Sept. 24, 2001), Ive played in Grey Cups and those were some pretty emotional times for me. "But I can just imagine how emotional and how much energy is going to be in this stadium and this entire city. I know this fanbase has waited since 2005 to have a true home game and a true home stadium. Its an honour to be here and able to be part of this team to break ground as far as getting this organization and city back into football." Not since the former Renegades in November 2005 has a CFL team played a home game in Ottawa and the city hasnt celebrated a Grey Cup winner since 76 when Tony Gabriels historic TD catch rallied the Rough Riders to a thrilling 23-20 victory over Saskatchewan. But a sellout gathering of 24,000 will be on hand for the Redblacks inaugural home game. "Its a big deal and weve been waiting for this day for a long time.," said Ottawa head coach Rick Campbell. "Weve had a bunch of firsts over the last several months as far as whats gone on with our franchise and (Thursday) will be a big night and were definitely proud of it." Its only fitting that Burris achieve a career first going head-to-head with Toronto quarterback Ricky Ray. The two had many memorable battles when they were with the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Eskimos, respectively, and last year Burris led the Hamilton Tiger-Cats past the Argos in the East Division final. "I feel like were in The Matrix, we keep following each other," Burris said. "It seems in the most special moments, we always go against each other. "Hes done a lot of great things in his time and I hope thats a two-way street. When we see each other on the sidelines we want to beat each other." But Ray has much more to be concerned about than outplaying Burris. Toronto will be minus its top three receivers in Chad Owens (foot), Andre Durie (clavicle) and Jason Barnes (knee), meaning youngsters Anthony Coombs, Terrell Sinkfield and Darvin Adams will all start versus Ottawa. "Thats going to be tough," Ray said. "Any time you dont have a starter in the lineup you cant rely on the production youre used to getting. "With these guys, theyve been here, theyve been through training camp, they know the offence. Its just about being out there and not thinking too much when theyre playing and trying to avoid some of those mistakes and be able to play fast. Until you have that game experience together, you dont know what to expect. Were all going to be out here learning a little bit, hopefully we can get it done." Veteran Ottawa defensive back Jovon Johnson said it doesnt really matter who the Argos have at receiver because Ray is the key to their offence. "He takes the passes that you give him, he doesnt force things downfield," Johnson said. "He doesnt do things hes not accustomed to doing, thats what makes him great. "To not have guys like Chad Owens and Andre Durie, Im sure thats big for them because they go to Owens and Durie a lot. Its one of those unknown things, you dont know who theyre going to play and just have to be ready for whatever comes your way." With Ottawas first home game generating such a huge buzz here -- a pep rally was held Thursday at city hall -- the Redblacks will definitely have the home-field advantage as they search for their first-ever win. However, that also means therell be a lot of pressure on them to perform well. "Hopefully its loud and exciting," Argos head coach Scott Milanovich said. "Our guys are looking forward to playing in the new stadium being kind of the first show in town." Toronto receiver John Chiles, who played collegiately at Texas, said a big, loud crowd can dramatically impact the outcome of a game. "Im expecting it to be crazy, Im expecting it to be loud, Im expecting the fans to be up and screaming and having a good time," Chiles said. "In college I played before 110,000 people every week and I remember when it got loud it got tough for teams and they struggled against us. "And even at some away games it was tougher for me being on the road. The crowd can definitely have an effect on the game." However, Chiles said the Argos arent looking to play the spoiler role. "No, we try not to use that term," he said. "Were just focusing in on what we need to do to win and not get too involved with the extra stuff." Campbell said while hes looking forward to the Redblacks having a rabid home crowd firmly behind them, its important his players avoid being swept up in that emotion. "We just have to make sure we keep our heads about us," he said. "I know this is going to be a great place to be, we just need to make sure were good on our assignments and what were doing and go out there and play football." That wont be a problem for Johnson. "Im never nervous," he said. "Im always even-keeled, thats just me and my personality. I always want to perform and never feel pressure on the field. "You cant look at it as extra pressure. Thats when the eight-time champion revealed that a painful back is slowing his serves -- and, all in all, giving him more trouble than his opponents so far.NEW YORK, N.Y. - Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks walked off the court, and for the first time in weeks it wasnt with heads hanging. The sound of boos that had provided the audio at Madison Square Garden was replaced by the voice of James Brown singing I feel good! The Knicks finally got to feel that way again.New York snapped its 16-game losing streak Monday, getting 24 points and nine rebounds from Anthony to beat the short-handed New Orleans Pelicans 99-92.Jose Calderon made his biggest basket of a difficult first season in New York, a 3-pointer with 32 seconds left that gave the Knicks a four-point lead. That was enough to help them hold on for their first victory since Dec. 12 and end the longest single-season skid in franchise history. Its tough, man. Its a tough situation. Were human, so were going to feel it, Anthony said. Its definitely emotional when youre losing games like that, but were sticking with it.Langston Galloway added 21 points for the Knicks, who improved the NBAs worst record to 6-36 by ending a 12-game home losing streak.Tyreke Evans had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Pelicans, who were still without Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday. They spotted the Knicks a 15-point lead, cut it to one in the final 2 minutes, but then couldnt score again. They had lost a lot of games in a row and they just said, Enoughs enough, Pelicans guard Quincy Pondexter said. The Knicks hadnt even been competitive lately, losing nine straight by double digits since a Dec. 27 overtime loss in Sacramento. But despite starting two players on 10-day contracts, they controlled this one most of the way.Evans, who provided the go-ahead basket with 1.6 seconds left in the Pelicans 95-93 victory at Toronto on Sunday, brought them back Monday with a series of drives to the basket, the last one making it 93-92 with 1:56 to play.Ryan Anderson missed a 3-pointer that wouldve given New Orleans the lead, and the Pelicans looked as though they would get the ball back when Galloway was losing his dribble out by the arc with the shot clock rrunning down. Amundson and Lance Thomas are near the end of their first, hoping they can stick around — and spark a turnaround. Its a tough situation to be in, Amundson said. I think theres a bunch of great guys here, theyre all good-character guys and they want to win, they want to do the right things, play the right way, but when you lose that many games its hard, you kind of let that negativity creep in. So if I can be part of changing that, its great.Back from a trip to London, where they were beaten by Milwaukee on Thursday, the Knicks won at Madison Square Garden for the first time since defeating Philadelphia on Nov. 22.They had already surpassed their worst skid in one season of 12 straight defeats and were nearing the overall franchise record of 20 in a row over two seasons.Everybody looks at the Knicks roster and says theyre not talented. ABBOTSFORD, B. Tanoh Kpassagnon Chiefs Jersey .C. - Lane MacDermids first goal of the season was the winner as the Abbotsford Heat edged the Oklahoma City Barons 4-2 in American Hockey League action Saturday night. MacDermid gave his club a two-goal cushion midway through the third period but stood as the winner after Curtis Hamilton scored his second of the game just 15 seconds later. MacDermid was acquired by the Calgary Flames through a trade early this season but had recorded no points in 10 games with the Edmonton Oilers minor-league affiliate. Corban Knight had a goal and an assist for the second night in a row, while Markus Granlund and Sven Baertschi also scored for Abbotsford (23-9-2). The Heat have won three straight games and retain first place in the AHLs Western Conference. Joni Ortio made 32 saves, giving him a league-high 15 wins. Richard Bachman stopped 22 shots for Oklahoma City (11-17-5), which is winless in its past six road games and just 1-7-1 in its last eight. It was Hamiltons first career multi-goal game, and also his first two scores this season. Hamilton put the Barons up 1-0 at 7:49 of the first. Tyler Pitlicks shot from the top of the circle was kicked out by Ortio but Hamilton, driving towards the net, knocked the rebound out of midair past the Finnish netminder. Brad Hunt nearly put Oklahoma City up by two with eight minutes to go in the first. He took a feed from Andrew Miller in the slot and beat Ortio glove side, but the puck ricocheted off the post, keeping the score 1-0. Granlunds 13th goal of the season got Abbotsford even with just 72 seconds remaining in the first. Granlund crossed the Barons blue-line one-on-one with a defender, stepped to the left and wired a slapshot that beat Bachman glove side, top corner. Thats the Finnish forwards first in five games. The Heat took the lead with less than three minutes to go in the second period. Ben Hanowski found Ben Street down low on a power play and Street quickly fed cross-crease to Knight, who one-timed it home for his ninth of the year and second in consecutive games. The Barons began the third period with a power play but couldnt capitalize. C.J. Stretch had the best opportunity to tie the game but was robbed at the side of the net by Ortio, who made the splits to deny the backdoor play. The teams exchanged goals 15 seconds apart midway through the third. First, MacDermid put the Heat up by two at 10:31, redirecting a great feed from Carter Bancks for his first of the season. Then Hamilton picked up his second of the game, rushing down the left side and hammering a slapshot from the top of the circle. The puck deflected off a defencemans leg, past Ortios glove, cutting the deficit back to 3-2. However, the Barons couldnt claw all the way back, despite outshooting the Heat 11-5 in the final frame. Hamilton sealed Oklahoma Citys fate when he took a slashing penalty with just over two minutes remaining that led to Baertschis power-play goal, a one-timer off a Knight feed. Kareem Hunt Womens Jersey . Paire broke Giraldo twice and lost his serve once in both sets to wrap up the win in 1 hour, 10 minutes. Therrien would not confirm his lineup for the game, but he did have the same line combinations practicing together for the third straight day which is usually a pretty good indication of what the lineup will be. Mark Sanchez and Michael Vick have traded places. Bounced out of New York after the Jets signed Vick last Friday, Sanchez has moved down turnpike and signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. A news conference is scheduled for Friday "Ive said many times that we will always look to add quality players at the quarterback position," Eagles coach Chip Kelly said in a statement. He called the signing a "no-brainer." "Mark has started 68 games in his career and has taken his teams deep into the playoffs multiple times, so we really like what he brings to the table from an experience standpoint," Kelly said. "I also had the chance to see Mark play in college and have always had respect for his game and athletic ability." Sanchez spent last season on injured reserve after tearing the labrum in his right shoulder in a preseason game. He led the Jets to the AFC championship game his first two seasons in the NFL before struggling the next two. Sanchez had an NFL-leading 52 turnovers in 2012-13. Sanchez, in his sixth year in the league, will be added to a mix of quarterbacks that includes Nick Foles, Matt Barkley and G.J. Kinne. In colleege, Barkley succeeded Sanchez at Southern California. Kareem Hunt Chiefs Jersey. "You can never have enough talent at the quarterback position on your roster, so when Mark became available we immediately became interested," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. Roseman pointed to Sanchezs "valuable experience." "Hell have the chance to come in and learn the playbook, and we feel hell be a nice veteran addition to the quarterback room," he said. Sanchez was the fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft and drew comparisons to Joe Namath in New York. He had seemingly beat out rookie Geno Smith for the starting job in a preseason competition last August before getting hurt. Sanchez has thrown 68 touchdown passes, 69 interceptions and lost 20 fumbles. His career completion percentage is just 55.1 and his passer rating is only 77.1. While Vick will compete with Smith for the starting job in New York, Sanchez is coming to Philadelphia as insurance. Foles had a breakout sophomore season and led the Eagles to the NFC East title after replacing an injured Vick in Week 5. Foles threw 29 touchdowns and only two interceptions in 11 starts, including a playoff loss to New Orleans. Interim England manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will not start against Slovenia on Tuesday night. [url=

Interim England manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will not start against Slovenia on Tuesday night. Dede Westbrook Jersey . Southgate says the decision was based on how Slovenia are expected to play and not a reflection on how Rooney performed during Saturdays 2-0 win over Malta.Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson will captain England on the night in the absence of Rooney, who was booed on a couple of occasions by a small section of the home support on Saturday. Southgate says Rooney has accepted his demotion to the bench with great professionalism and that Englands all-time leading goal scorer will remain the captain of the side. Its very straightforward, said Southgate. Weve looked at Slovenia and the way they play and, from when I looked at it, Ive had in my mind the profile of the midfield that we wanted to play.In no way is it a reflection on his performance on Saturday. In fact we were very pleased with what he did. Jordan Henderson (centre) will captain England in Slovenia on Tuesday night Hes still captain of this team while Im in charge.Everything I have seen this week has only improved the feeling of how impressive he has been as a leader of this group. Not only did he accept the news with professionalism but he immediately said he wanted to talk to you [the media] today.I go back to what Ive witnessed at St Georges Park over the last three years, from afar. That has only been embellished by what Ive witnessed this week. Rooney says he respects Southgates decision Theres a depth to his leadership that unfortunately people outside of the group wouldnt be aware of.Hes almost like a coach within the dressing room already and thats a compliment to his football intelligence and whats right for the group. It is a football decision. Its based on the profile of the opposition and the type of player we believe we need for this game.On a human level, its a very difficult decision. I dont like the idea that it might bring satisfaction to some people that hes not in the team.Im probably more annoyed about that than he is. Hes had to live with that reaction through his career.Tottenhams Eric Dier will come into the starting line-up to replace Rooney and Southgate added: Eric Dier will start and its clear they are two different sorts of player. We are away from home and we need different skills for a different tactical challenge. As a coach, youve got to look at the right set-up. Eric Dier will start in Wayne Rooneys place Henderson played well against Malta and Southgate thinks he will rise to the challenge of leading the side.Ive been very impressed with him, said the interim boss.Whats stood out for me is that hes captained a club [Liverpool] where hes had to take over from one of the biggest players in English football [Steven Gerrard].In this group he has a voice, an opinion, and ideas of what we need to work on, and good tactical awareness. Hes used to the responsibility of captaining a big football club. You can watch Englands tour of Bangladesh, plus Premier League football and the British Masters on Sky Sports. Drummond had 17 points and a career-high 26 rebounds to match a single-season franchise record with his 44th double-double, helping the Detroit Pistons surge to beat the New York Knicks 96-85 Monday night in a matchup of slumping teams. The Pistons had lost four straight and seven of eight. "Im just happy we won the game," Drummond said when asked about his career-high rebounding total. Drummonds 26 rebounds matched Houstons Dwight Howard for the most in an NBA game this season. "Hes a young, explosive player," New Yorks Tyson Chandler said. "We missed a lot of shots, so we helped him out." New York has dropped seven straight games and 13 of 15. "Im running out of comments," Carmelo Anthony said. And, the Knicks are running out of time to rally for a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. "Its not over yet," Amare Stoudemire insisted. It looked like the Knicks skid might end after Anthony scored 10 of his 28 points in a first quarter in which they led by as much as 14 and were ahead 28-20 when it ended. "We started off slow and let them be comfortable," Drummond said. The second-year centre said the plan was to start making Anthony uncomfortable, and it worked. The Pistons outscored New York by three points in the second quarter, 30-20 in the third and started the fourth quarter with eight unanswered points. "We got a string of stops, but we couldnt convert on the other end," Anthony said. The Knicks, who started 8 of 15 from the field, were 9 of 18 in the first quarter. Anthony made his first four shots — all from the outside — for 10 points in six-plus minutes as New York led 14-4. Stoudemire, who scored eight points in the first quarter, made a driving dunk to lift the Knicks to a 25-11 lead. Over the next three quarters, New York barely connected on one-third of its shots. "A game like this is very disappointing," Chandler said. "When you have that kind of lead and when you have that kind of control of the game,, you should be able to win. Taco Charlton Cowboys Jersey. "We just went flat and let them take over." J.R. Smith missed a lot of attempts before closing 5 of 17 from the field and scoring 16 points for the Knicks. New Yorks Raymond Felton made only 1 of 9 shots and acknowledged his personal life might be affecting him professionally. He was charged last month with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and criminal possession of a firearm. "Obviously if youre dealing with something, its on your mind," Felton said. "But I try not to let that come into my job." New Yorks third guard, Tim Hardaway Jr., was 0 for 6 in front of some fans who cheered for the rookie at Michigan. "I thought our defence was pretty solid, but our offence fell apart in the second half," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said. "We were just flat, and we couldnt get anything going from the outside. Raymond didnt hit anything. J.R. didnt hit anything. Timmy didnt hit anything. We cant ask two guys to score all our points." Stoudemire had 22 points — one short of his season high — despite playing sparingly in the fourth quarter. He was on the court for 32 minutes, a day after facing the Chicago Bulls, after recently being slowed by an injured left ankle. "I feel great," he said. "Its a great sign." Detroit reserves Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum each scored 16 points, helping their teams bench outscore New Yorks 36-7. Greg Monroe had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Pistons, who are trying to climb up in the Eastern Conference standings to earn a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2009. NOTES: Drummond matched a team double-double mark set by Bill Laimbeer during the 1983-84 season that was equaled by Grant Hill in the 1995-96 season. ...
