George Groves is confident he will land another world title shot next year before a British super fight against either James DeGale or Callum Smith. While his bitter British rival DeGale looks forward to a world super-middleweight title unification clash against Badou Jack in New York on Jan. 14, Groves (24-3, 18 KOs) faces Kazakhstans Eduard Gutknecht (30-4-1, 13 KOs) for the fringe WBA International belt at Wembley Arena on Friday.Groves hopes it is a stepping stone towards a WBA world title fight which he says will set up up a rematch with DeGale (23-1, 14 KOs).Ideally I would win the WBA world title belt before a big domestic fight against James DeGale or Callum Smith, Groves told ESPN.Winning a world title belt means I would bring more to the table and get a better deal when it comes to a big domestic fight. But if I dont get the WBA opportunity and Callum doesnt get a [WBC title] fight, then that could be a fantastic fight for early next year.If DeGale gets through against Jack I would be prepared to fight him next summer. I think those fights will probably happen next year, if they want them like I do.IBF champion DeGale, whose only defeat was to Groves on points in 2011, has this week had belated confirmation of his date with WBC champion Jack after boxing just once this year.Groves is not convinced DeGale will prevail against U.S.-based Swede Jack, who the 28-year-old lost a split decision to in September 2015.When I boxed Jack, everyone wrote him off, Groves said. After he beat me he got a lot more credit and hes a very underrated fighter still.James likes to fight for one minute out of three each round and he cant do that against Jack in the U.S. Jack will not stand still. It might be a boring fight and I honestly dont know whos going to win it.Victory over Gutknecht, who was out-pointed by Juergen Braehmer in a world light-heavyweight title fight in March, will move Groves closer to a crack at the WBAs vacant super world title.Groves is ranked third by the WBA, whose premier world title was vacated by Felix Sturm. The German is being investigated after he tested positive for a banned substance. The WBA super title is up for grabs and I want to make sure Im in a position to fight for it next year, Groves said.Thats plan A and Im hoping something will come off, maybe I could fight Fedor Chudinov for it. NEW YORK -- Dan Girardi returned to the lineup and made himself the difference with one big third-period shot.Girardi scored 1:55 into the final period, lifting the New York Rangers over the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 on Sunday night. The goal was the first of the season for Girardi. He put the Rangers up for good with a slap shot from the right point.I just buried my head and tried to shoot as hard as I can at the net, Girardi said. Good things happen when you put pucks on net.The veteran was paired with rookie Brady Skjei in his first game after missing New Yorks previous three with a strained groin, and Skjei assisted on the goal.New York was playing for the second straight night after winning 4-2 at Washington on Saturday. The leadership group was trying to preach to the young guys that we (had) a huge win in Washington (but) it means nothing if you cant back it up with a win tonight, Girardi said. We stuck with it and found a way to get two points.Josh Jooris and J.T. Miller also scored for the Rangers, who have 12 players with at least one goal this season and 20 players with at least one point.Henrik Lundqvist made 27 stops for New York.Radim Vrbata had both of Arizonas goals, and Louis Domingue made 23 saves. The Coyotes have lost their first four games on a six-game trip since beating Philadelphia in overtime at home to start the season. We are learning it is not easy to win in this league, Vrbata said. Every mistake we make seems to wind up in our net.Vrbata opened the scoring 33 seconds in by deflecting Connor Murphys shot from the right point past Lundqvist. For the most part there were some real good parts to our game, Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. But good parts to your game doesnt get you a win. We need to find ways to win.Jooris got his first goal with the Rangers with 7:47 left in the first. He jammed a puck under Domingue while being knocked to the ice by Lawson Crouse.New York took its first lead 5:45 into the second when Miller scored his second of the season. With the Rangers on a power play, Miller cut to the net and deflected Ryan McDonaghs slap shot past Domingue for a 2-1 advantage. These points still count at the end of the day, Miller said. We did a good job of hanging on and just finding a way to get two (points).Vrbata made it 2-2 with 3:42 left in the second. Its nice to see pucks go in, thats for sure, Vrbata said. Ill take anything.Game notes Prior to the game, Rangers coach Alain Vigneault announced Girardi would replace D Adam Clendening in the lineup. Vigneault also said LW Chris Kreider reported to the team with neck spasms and would miss the game. Instead of dwelling on the negative, Oates focused on what was good about the clubs recent play. It worked.West Indies qualified for the semi-finals of the 2016 World T20, beating South Africa by three wickets with just two balls to spare in a thrilling contest in Nagpur. Marlon Samuels hit a run-a-ball 44 that seemed to be taking the West Indies to victory, chasing 123, but the West Indies lost wickets at regular intervals and when Imran Tahir (2-13) took two wickets in two balls in the 17th over, the match seemed to have swung in South Africas favour.Samuels himself fell in the penultimate over, with 10 still needed from seven to win, but Carlos Brathwaite (10no) smashed a huge six over midwicket off the second ball of Kagiso Rabadas final over as the West Indies ultimately got home.Chris Gayle starred but with the ball, his 2-17 helping restrict South Africa to 122-8 and bettering his two-ball stay at the crease with the bat. West Indies Chris Gayle (left) celebrates after dismissing Rilee Rossouw South Africa were 47-5 at one stage, with Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, Rilee Roussow, AB de Villiers and David Miller all dismissed for 10 or fewer, after West Indies won the toss and elected to field first.Amla was run out third ball and it quickly got worse for South Africa as skipper Du Plessis picked out Sulieman Benn at mid-off off Andre Russell (2-2, and Gayle grabbed the wicket of Rossouw, in the second and third overs.Dwayne Bravo (2-20) then picked up the key wicket of De Villiers, for 10, and Gayle added the scalp of Miller, both bowled. Quinton de Kock (47) continued his fine form, putting on 50 for the sixth wicket with David Wiese (2 to somewhat recover things, but just as the former was nearing his own personal half century, he too was bowled, round his legs byy Russell.ddddddddddddChris Morris (16no) struck Samuel Badree for back-to-back boundaries in the 17th over, but only 14 runs were added in the final three as South Africa continued to lose wickets. There was a glimmer of hope for South Africa when, after hitting his first ball for four, Gayle was bowled by a beauty from Rabada (1-3 that just clipped his off-stump.A brilliant throw from Rossouw at point accounted for Andre Fletcher, run out by a direct hit in the sixth over, but Johnson Charles (32) and Samuels batted sensibly, putting on 32 for the third wicket. Gayle was bowled after scoring just four runs Charles launched Aaron Phangiso for a 106-metre six over midwicket in the 11th over as West Indies seemed to be cruising, only for Charles to fall to a top-edge when attempting the same shot off Wiese (1-19) three balls later.Bravo was next to gift his wicket away an over after he and Samuels took 14 off Rabada, slapping Phangiso (1-19) straight to point, before Tahirs heroics in the 17th.Tahir started the over by dropping Samuels, but made up for it with the double-strike of Russell and Darren Sammy, bowled by his googly. With 20 needed from the final two overs, Samuels struck Morris for two fours before falling later in the over to a top-edge, but Brathwaite secured the win in the last, a result that means if England beat Sri Lanka on Saturday they too guarantee themselves a semi-final spot.Watch highlights of West Indies win over South Africa at 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Sky Sports 2.Then join us for live coverage of Englands Group 1 game with Sri Lanka from 1.30pm on Sky Sports 2 on Saturday, following New Zealands clash with Bangladesh at 9am. Sarah Cornett-Ching knew within 48 hours of a vicious crash during an ARCA race in late September that she had suffered an injury unlike any she had experienced in her racing career. It was as though her brain were functioning in a slow stage less than 24 hours after the crash at Kentucky Speedway. She had a constant, aggravating, but not debilitating headache. Then she experienced ringing in her ears and severe nausea. By the second day, the 25-year-old driver couldnt get out of bed. She was tired, had a continuous headache and was nauseous.I felt like crap, Cornett-Ching said.It was then that NASCARs medical liaison reached out to the Denver, North Carolina, resident. Even though her injury occurred in an ARCA race, she competed in five NASCAR K&N Pro Series East events earlier this year. Because she is a NASCAR-licensed driver, it was protocol for the sanctioning bodys medical liaison to check on her.The liaison immediately arranged for Cornett-Ching to visit Dr. Jerry Petty, a Charlotte-based neurosurgeon who is affiliated with the International Council of Motorsports and is an independent neurological consultant for the NFL and NFL Players Association. Petty also treated Dale Earnhardt Jr., who missed most of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season after suffering a concussion in a race in June at Michigan International Speedway. He continued racing through the July 9 Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway (he finished 13th). Earnhardt has not raced since but hopes to be ready for 2017.It was the way Earnhardt handled his much-publicized injury -- by speaking out about it -- that made Cornett-Ching want to tell her story. The first visit when I went to see [Petty], I was pitiful, said Cornett-Ching, who was driven to her appointment by her team owner, Tony Blanchard. I couldnt hardly walk. I had to hold someones arm to get in there. I was so out of it that I dont even remember what was said.A CT scan showed no bleeding on her brain. After her reflexes and balance were checked, she was told to rest until the headache and nausea disappeared. She was told to stay off her cell phone unless it was a necessity and to not watch television. The bright light of the phone and TV only worsened the headaches, she said. The first three or four days, it was pretty easy to do because I felt so bad, the Summerland, British Columbia, native said. It got tougher when I started feeling better because Im pretty ambitious, and I want to get up and do things. That ambition carried Cornett-Ching to a seventh-place finish in last years ARCA point standings. This year, she recorded one top-10 finish in eight ARCA races and placed outside the top 20 only once -- in the Kentucky race that left her injured. She missed the season finale at Kansas, but Petty has told her shell be ready when the 2017 season begins at Daytona in February. Still, she cant finalize next years racing plans until shes cleared to drive.Three weeks after the accident, Cornett-Ching still wasnt allowed to drive a passenger car. Any type of stress or extensive physical activity triggered a headache and nausea. She also had problems with her short-term memory, and her brain wasnt processing things quickly. We went to Martinsville to watch a late model race [in October], and that was really tough on me, she said. We had to walk a long way and go up stairs to get to our seats. When I get my heart rate up and start doing things, I revert back to being nauseous, having headaches and being really dizzy. I really have no balance right now. If I try to walk a long way, I end up staggering. I trip on my feet a lot.[Petty] gets me to do things, like put my thumbs together in front of my face and shake my head back and forth. I cant even do it for three seconds, and I feel like Im going to throw up. Im still a long way from being able to do physical therapy.Still, she tries to be productive. Cornett-Ching, a certified welder, has taken on tasks at her teams race shop, including peeling vinyl off one of the cars. However, when she tried to take lug nuts off a car, watching the circular motion made her sick for two or three hours, she said.Dr. Petty wants me to feel 100 percent, and then he wants me to push myself until I feel sick again, Cornett-Ching said. He wants me to keep doing that until Im good all of the time. At that point, I can start testing a car again and getting pretty much back into everything.Cornett-Ching traveled to Las Vegas for the SEMA Show scheduled for Nov. 1-4, but she had to ride cross-country with four people who were taking a show car for display. She was advised not to fly because of the stress. The event schedule calls for her to attend a press conference for Dickies, her sponsor. She also plans to be at the Dickies booth, sign autographs and make public appearances. The main thing that has me feeling positive is its not permanent. Its temporary, and every day, I feel better than I did the day before, Cornett-Ching said. I would be more scared if I didnt feel like I was getting better.Cornett-Ching initially didnt want to talk about her condition because of the implications it could have for her career. Thats understandable, said former NASCAR driver Ricky Craven, now an ESPN analyst. The first driver to admit he needed some time out of a race car to recover from a concussion, Craven said there were some risks in admitting to being compromised. You work your whole life to make it to the big leagues, said Craven, who suffered three concussions in three weeks in the late 1990s while driving in NASCAR for Hendrick Motorsports. Nobody wants a race horse with a bad ankle. The very early approach in NASCAR was toughen up. Its evolved to Youve reached your limit. You cant have these side effects and race a car, but hundreds did.Every single athlete has to be their own advocate and say, I am in charge of this, much as what you have seen Dale Earnhardt Jr. do this year. Nobody knows how I feel. I can keep it a secret or I can act on it.It happened so often that it was acknowledged, but drivers just plowed through it and strapped in the next week. Before getting hurt really badly, I can remember being in a car when I shouldnt have because I spent two days cross-eyed after I hit ... my head on the steering wheel at Charlotte.Cornett-Ching didnt hit her head on anything. She slammed into the tracks inside wall nearly head-on at 140 mph after brushing the outside wall. She never lost consciousness, but she realized she didnt have a good grasp of where she was on the track once the car stopped.Initially, I didnt want to talk about it, she said. When it comes to an opportunity to drive for a team or for a team owner, you dont want to look weak or have concussions on your résumé. At first, I didnt know what to do, but with Dale Jr. speaking out about it and taking time off ... its better to open up about it. I want people to understand what Im going through, and if they go through similar things, I hope they reach out to me. https://www.chinasjerseys.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">China Jerseys 2021 . SAN ANTONIO -- Minnesota Lynx players did not wear T-shirts supporting the Black Lives Matter movement ahead of Tuesdays game in San Antonio after four off-duty police officers walked away from security jobs at a Lynx game over the weekend because of the garb. The shirts worn before Saturdays game in Minneapolis against the Dallas Wings listed the names of two black men fatally shot by police in Minnesota and Louisiana. The shirts also showed the Dallas police shield above the phrase Black Lives Matter. Five officers in Dallas were fatally shot last Thursday by a sniper during a protest over the two slayings.Lynx spokeswoman Ashley Carlson says the players would not be wearing the BLM clothing in San Antonio. The Lynx organization was made aware about the concerns of the off duty Minneapolis police officers, the team said. While our players message mourned the loss of life due to last weeks shootings, we respect the right of those individual officers to express their own beliefs in their own way. ... We continue to urge a constructive discussion about the issues raised by these tragedies. In a statement Tuesday, Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau said while the officers were working security on behalf of the Lynx, she expects all officers to adhere to our core values and to honor their oath of office when wearing a Minneapolis police uniform.Walking off the job and defaulting on their contractual obligation to provide a service to the Lynx does not conform to the expectations held by the public for the uniform these officers wear, Harteau said.Minneapolis Police Federation President Bob Kroll told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune he commends the officers. He says they took their names off a list of officers to work future games. In a post on her Twwitter and Facebook accounts Tuesday, Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges called Krolls comments jackass remarks.ddddddddddddLet me be clear: labor leadership inherently does not speak on behalf of management. Bob Kroll sure as hell doesnt speak for me about the Lynx or about anything else, Hodges wrote. On Sunday, the New York Liberty wore similar black T-shirts addressing the recent shootings. We do need people to stand up and understand and express that black lives are just as important as any other lives in America, and right now thats not being seen, Liberty guard Tanisha Wright said.New Yorks Swin Cash had stronger words.I think its a shame that we keep seeing people that want to make this movement as something thats violent, said Cash, who repeatedly hit the lectern with her fist and whose voice cracked while speaking. Five cops gave their lives up trying to protect a peaceful movement. And in this country, I do believe that you can assemble peacefully and protest against injustice. So until the system transforms, we cannot sit here and act like there is not a problem here in America. Many athletes have expressed frustration and anger over the recent police shootings, including NBA players Damian Lillard and Carmelo Anthony and Brittney Griner of the Phoenix Mercury.LeBron James and other basketball stars made news in 2014 when they wore T-shirts reading I cant breathe to protest the death of Eric Garner at the hands of police in New York City and five members of the St. Louis Rams made the Hands up. Suggestions that the release of draft letters urging Russias total ban from the Olympics have compromised the investigation into Russian doping are nonsense, an international anti-doping leader said Sunday. The Institute of National Anti-Doping Agencies is one of a handful of anti-doping and athletes groups to draft letters calling for the ban. They plan to send the letters to the International Olympic Committee only if the investigation, due out Monday, reveals evidence of state-sponsored doping throughout Russian sports.A group of Olympic leaders, including IOC members and swimmings international federation, have released statements suggesting that the draft letters have undermined the credibility of investigator Richard McLarens report. It is very disappointing to see prominent Olympic stakeholders attempting to get another family member banned from the Olympic Games in this rather underhand way, said Spyros Capralos, president of Greeces Olympic committee. But iNADO CEO Joseph de Pencier said his organization has neither communicated with McLaren nor tried to influence his work; he said he had no knowledge of any iNADO members contacting McLaren, either. The back-and-forth this weekend about the draft letters illustrates the stakes of McLarens report and the IOCs reaction to it.Anti-doping leaders and groups of athletes are calling for a full Russian ban from the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro if McLarens report substantiates and expands on preliminary findings that already have been released. Meanwhile, IOC president Thomas Bach says a balance must be struck between collective responsibility and individual justice.Preliminary findings from the report, released in June as part of a probe into the Russian track team, which already has been suspended from the games, said there was mandatory state-directed manipulation of laboratory analytical results operating within the Moscow anti-doping lab from at least 2011 through the summer of 2013. Those findings also said Russias Ministry of Sport advised the laboratory which of its adverse findings it could report to WADA, and which it had to cover up.The planned Monday release of the report comes 18 days before the start of the Summer Olympics.A statement sent Sunday by swimmings governing body, FINA, said the iNADO and other letters were based on the findings of the McLaren Report, which is meant to have been independent and confidential. Such breaches of confidentiality and the perception of a breach of independence of the report undermine its credibility.Zlatko Matesa, president of Croatias Olympic Committee, said the premature movement to ban Russia is not in the Olympic spirit and casts a shadow over the integrity of the McLaren report. But dePencier said iNADO had no more information than anyone else.Like iNADO, sport organizations and anti-doping organizations of all sorts have been planning for days for the possibility of the worse-case scenario, and having appropriate responses prepared, hoping they will not be needed, he said.---AP Sports Writer Stephen Wilson contributed to this report. https://www.supersonicsjerseys.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Supersonics Jerseys China . TORONTO -- It is one thing for the Toronto Maple Leafs to gain the lead, it is quite another for them to hold it.They will try to get it right again on Saturday when they play the Washington Capitals at the Air Canada Centre. The Capitals (13-5-2) will be playing their third game in four nights Saturday, after defeating the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 on Friday at the Verizon Center to complete a five-game homestand with four wins. The Maple Leafs (8-8-4) have not played since Wednesday when they were up to their old tricks at New Jersey.Toronto led 3-0 after the first period and 4-3 after the second before losing 5-4 in a shootout.Weve managed ourselves into losses instead of victories, just by our (inability) to take care of the puck a little bit, Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said. Weve got a little better, but we have a long way to go. We have to do a better job when were ahead. One positive for the Maple Leafs Friday was that center Auston Matthews, the first player taken in this years draft, scored twice to end a 13-game goalless drought. That could not prevent the Maple Leafs from losing for the fifth time in 20 games this season in which they have taken a lead into the third period.Weve done lots of good things, but weve also identified areas that were not good enough in and its become clear as time has gone on, Babcock said. For a club like us, weve got a long way to go. We understand that totally, but were excited about the work were getting done. They will be facing a formidable opponent in the Capitals left winger Alex Ovechkin, who has 12 goals and five assists.Hes probably the best scorer of this generation of players, said Leafs left winger Matt Martin. To go with that, he has the size and strength to have an impact on the game. When hes going, hes very tough to stop. More than anything you try and limit his chances rather than take them all away, hes so dynamic. You have to be physical on him, but hes not one to shy away from it either. Hes a big body, 240 pounds I think and when he hits, it hurts. But we have to be hard on him.Frederik Andersen, who did not play Wednesday when Jhonas Enroth got the starts, will return to the Toronto goal Saturday. The Capitals also have had third-period troubles. They allowed a third-period goal in 11 of their past 12 games. They have allowed teams to tie or threaten in the third period in seven games. The most frustrating part is weve done it a few times this year, said goaltender Braden Holtby, who is the likely starter on Saturday after backup Philipp Grubauer played Friday. And once it happens a few times, its a habit. Its something we need to address and get better at and try and clamp down in third periods. You cant sit back and just defend in this league, Capitals coach Barry Trotz said. So youve just got to keep playing. You see that around the league, teams that get a couple-of-goals lead, you tend to say, Okay, were in good shape, and you stop attacking and playing the right way. After the game on Friday, the Capitals recalled left winger Paul Carey from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League and he will join the team in Toronto. He has five goals and nine assists in 16 games at Hershey. (STATS) -- North Carolina A&T proved it was worthy of beginning a season as a nationally ranked team for the first time in 12 years with a blowout victory in its 2016 opener, but it came against a Division II opponent.Next up for the Aggies is a visit to FBS school Kent State on Saturday night, one of four games for Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference squads in Week 2 where a STATS FCS Top 25 team will be on the field.North Carolina A&T rolled to a 62-0 win over St. Augustines last weekend and climbed two spots in the rankings Monday to No. 23. Lamar Raynard went 17 of 21 for 170 yards and two touchdowns while adding a 1-yard scoring run, and two-time MEAC offensive player of the year and All-American Tarik Cohen rushed for two TDs and 44 yards on just eight carries.Cohen broke Stoney Polites school record for career touchdowns.I feel like I got enough touches, said Cohen, who has 40 rushing TDs and two receiving scores in 35 career games. I had two touchdowns. I know the team wants to have me for the rest of the season, so we dont want any stupid injuries getting in the way of that.Kent State of the Mid-American Conference opened its season with a 33-13 loss at Big Ten member Penn State, but the Golden Flashes trailed by just three at halftime. Aggies coach Rod Broadway knows facing an FBS team after a Division II opponent wont be easy. The thing that sticks out is the speed at which these guys play, Broadway said. Im sure we were fast last week playing against St. Augustines and now when I look at Kent State, Kent States fast. Ill say it again, theres a distinct difference between us and Division I. Were not at that level yet. ... With that said, were going to go up there and compete and were going to try to win the ballgame. In other matchups for MEAC teams Saturday, Norfolk State visits No. 2 Richmond (CAA Football), Hampton hosts 13th-ranked William & Mary (CAA Football) and Florida A&M heads out to take on No. 17 Coastal Carolina, an FCS independent thats transitioning to the Sun Belt Conference in the FBS.Norfolk State opened with a 20-12 win over Division II Elizabeth City State, Hampton was routed 54-21 on the road by Conference USA member Old Dominion and Florida A&M lost 70-3 at Miami of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Spartans will face a Richmond team that stunned ACC member Virginia 37-20 in its opener, the Pirates get a visit from William & Mary after the Tribe fell 48-14 at North Carolina State (ACC) and the Rattlers meet a Coastal Carolina team that beat Southland Conference opponent Lamar 38-14.North Carolina A&T and Norfolk State were the only MEAC teams to open with wins. The other eight squads that played were completely overmatched, getting outscored by a combined score of 424-81.The Aggies have dropped all three meetings with FBS teams by an average of 39.7 points, while Kent State is riding a 13-game winning streak over FCS opponents. If North Carolina A&T played in the FCS playoffs it would be interesting to see how far they could go, Golden Flashes coach Paul Haynes said. I think they are just as talented as some of the top teams like North Dakota State and Eastern Washington. Our guys are going to respect the heck out of them.In games that dont feature STATS FCS Top 25 teams, Howard visits Rutgers (Big Ten), Delaware State hosts Monmouth (Big South), Morgan State plays at Marshall (C-USA), South Carolina State visits Louisiana Tech (C-USA), Savannah State travels to Southern Miss (C-USA), North Carolina Central pays a visit to Western Michigan (Mid-American) and Bethune-Cookman goes to North Texas (C-USA) after its opener against Alcorn State was canceled due to weather. https://www.cheapjerseyslines.com/joe-francis-jersey-retro/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Joe Francis Jersey Retro . The Dallas Cowboys are adding quarterback Mark Sanchez as the backup to rookie Dak Prescott while Tony Romo recovers from a back injury.A person with knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press on Saturday that Sanchez had agreed to a one-year contract that could be worth $2.5 million with incentives. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract cant be signed until Sunday.Sanchez reached a deal with the Cowboys the same day he was released by Denver as all NFL teams had to get their rosters to the 53-man limit for the regular season. Sanchezs release cleared him to join any team. The six-year veteran was acquired by the Broncos in the offseason after Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler bolted to Houston in free agency. But the 29-year-old Sanchez couldnt beat out second-year pro Trevor Siemian, a seventh-round pick in 2015 from Northwestern.Dallas has to decide whether to place Romo on the injured reserve-return list after he broke a bone in his back in a preseason game at Seattle. Romo would miss the first seven games if hes on that list, and Sanchez could take that roster spot. The Cowboys placed running back Darren McFadden on the non-football injury list, sidelining their leading rusher from last season for at least the first six games. He broke his right elbow during the offseason. The move on McFadden wasnt a surprise because rookie Ezekiel Elliott, the fourth overall pick in the draft, is expected to start the Sept. 11 opener against the New York Giants. Alfred Morris, a two-time Pro Bowl runner who signed as a free agent before the draft, is Elliotts backup.Second-year quarterback Jameill Showers survived the initial round of cuts after a marginal showing in the preseason finale against Houston, but Sanchezs arrival could change his status. The Coowboys said they would be in the market for a veteran quarterback as soon as backup Kellen Moore broke his right ankle in a training camp practice.dddddddddddd They didnt make an immediate move, though, and Prescott had strong showings in the first two preseason games. When Romo went out unexpectedly just three plays into the third preseason game against the Seahawks, Prescott came in and led the Cowboys to a touchdown on his first full possession. The fourth-round pick from Mississippi State finished the preseason 39-of-50 passing (78 percent) for 454 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran for two scores. The addition of Sanchez gives Prescott a backup who has made 72 regular-season starts and played in two AFC championship games, with the New York Jets in 2009-10. Moore has already been placed on season-ending injured reserve.Former Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson, who signed before the preseason finale in case Showers got hurt, was among those waived.Tight end Rico Gathers, who is making the transition from basketball after not playing football since eighth grade, was waived. The former Baylor basketball standout is likely headed to the practice squad if no other team claims him.The Cowboys waived a pair of former fifth-round picks in receiver Devin Street (2014) and defensive end Ryan Russell (2015).Defensive end Mike McAdoo was placed on the waived-injured list despite a strong showing in the preseason finale.Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence was placed on the reserve-suspended list. Napoli staged a second-half comeback from two goals down after Gervinhos opener and a stunning strike from Kevin Strootman. The season that just started is pretty much half over. The teams that can still smell a championship no longer can feast on rent-a-victims, which is how we know that No. 2 Ohio State finally must play a Big Ten road game. Say this much for Urban Meyer, when he plays a road game, he makes it count. First, Oklahoma; now, No. 8 Wisconsin (ABC, 8 p.m. ET). No. 1 Alabama is playing its third SEC road game, and at No. 9 Tennessee at that. The schedule gods smiled on No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Washington and No. 6 Texas A&M. At the exact midpoint of their seasons, they have an off week.1. Four Big Ten teams reached the AP top 10 for the first time in 56 years. Whats weird about that is on Oct. 3, 1960, Iowa,?Illinois,?Ohio State, and?Purdue?all were ranked between third and seventh, yet the Big Ten team that won the national championship that year was Minnesota. This time its Ohio State,?Michigan,?Wisconsin?and?Nebraska?-- RIP, Big Eight -- and, and barring a Badgers victory, there probably wont be four Big Ten teams in the top 10 next week. But theres no question here, anyway, that the Big Ten has been the strongest conference in the first half of the season. And the ACC is second.2. Miami freshman wide receiver Sam Bruce, the nephew of former NFL star Isaac Bruce, found out what Georgia players learned for 15 years under head coach Mark Richt: If you step over the line, he wont let you come back. Bruce already had been suspended once for a photo of him with a gun. He broke a leg last month playing pickup basketball and was out for the season. I always thought Richts soft-spokenness and compassionate religiosity masked a harder edge. But no one averages 10-3 in the SEC for that long if he doesnt have a structured program. Bruce found out what was well-known in Athens.3. Hurricane Matthew dumped nine inches of rain on Carter-Finley Stadium by 6 p.m. Saturday, but the calendar smiled upon NC State. With the state fair taking place across the street from the stadium, the Wolfpack play on the road for the next two weeks. Iowa?coach Kirk Ferentz, one of the least hyperbolic people Ive ever met, said Tuesday that he likes the College Football Playoff as is and has no desire to see the field expanded to eight teams -- and that he fully expects that to happen. Were going to [go to eight teams] because there is so much talk and attention and emphasis on it, Ferentz said.dddddddddddd I think were right where we need to be. He is concerned for the fate of the bowls, which have suffered as the playoff has blossomed. You can be in the playoffs, Ferentz said, and still have bowls that mean a lot to the teams involved. Last season, Iowa won the Big Ten West, as opposed to the Big Ten, and went to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 25 years.5. The emergence of?Jake Browning?into the bright lights of Heisman Trophy contention also shines a beam on the meager history of Huskies and Heismans. The last time a Washington player finished among the top 10 vote-getters: 2000, when quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo led the Huskies to a Rose Bowl victory. The last time a Washington player finished among the top five: 1991, when defensive tackle Steve Emtman finished fourth. The last time a Huskies offensive player finished among the top five: never, as in not one. Emtman is the only Washington player who finished higher than seventh (tailback Greg Lewis, 1990). East coast bias? Your witness.6. Some rivalries are filled with tension every season.?Tennessee?and?Alabama, known to fans on both sides of the states shared border as the Third Saturday in October, is not one of them. The Vols and the Crimson Tide might be the streakiest rivalry in sports. Only twice since 1961 has a team not lost at least two years in a row. Check it out: 1961-66: Alabama, 5-0-1; 1967-70, Tennessee, 4-0; 1971-81, Alabama, 11-0; 1982-85, Tennessee, 4-0; 1986-94, Alabama 8-0-1 (the NCAA later forced the Tide to forfeit the 1993 tie); 1995-2001, Tennessee, 7-0; 2007-15, Alabama, 9-0. From 2002 to 06, Tennessee won three out of five, and the NCAA forced Alabama to vacate its 2005 victory. The Tide are favored to stretch the current streak to 10 games against the injury-riddled Vols.7. I have been thinking about my friend and colleague Beano Cook, who died four years ago this week. No one was ever more passionate about the history of college football, or about pricking pomposity. This, from a 2010 podcast: Jim Tatum left Oklahoma to take the Maryland job after the 46 season and (Bud) Wilkinson got the Oklahoma job. I dont think the people of Oklahoma had any idea what they were getting. They got absolutely, I wont say genius. I will use an adjective: a football genius. These people who refer to coaches as a genius: Einstein was a genius. Edison was a genius. Football coaches arent geniuses. They might be football geniuses. But not geniuses. ' ' '

Crystal Palace are in a freefall.Alan Pardews Eagles (3-2-6) are without a win in five straight Premier League matches and minus a point in four -- a run that has sent them plummeting down the table to within just one point of the bottom three.Though it likely wont be easy, Palace hope to stop the bleeding Saturday against Manchester City at Selhurst Park.Pardews side has conceded a combined 10 goals in just three games prior to the recent international break. What Palace need now is an easy game to get his side back up and running. What he gets instead is a visit from a title favourite.Pep Guardiolas City (7-3-1) have lost just three times over 19 overall competitions. In league play, theyve scored 25 goals (only two clubs have more) and conceded just 10 (which only two clubs can improve on). But despite their apparent dominance, City will arrive in south London desperate for a victory after a run of results that saw them win just once in their last five (1-3-1) league matches.Guardiolas star-studded side are therefore expected to be firing on all cylinders against one of the leakiest defences in the division. One player in particular is looking forward to visiting Palace again.Crystal Palace will always be a special game for me because I scored my first goal against them and if I play on Saturday, I hope to score another against them, City striker Kelechi Iheanacho said. But they are very strong and have very good wingers so they will believe they can win this game. We have to be careful, respect them and expect this to be a very difficult match.Ihenacho has a point, for in the final game before the international break Palace almost produced an impressive comeback, recovering from two goals down against Burnley… only to miss a penalty and concede a third to lose 3-2.It was a harsh result to take, but not one that has shaken striker Christian Benteke (who missed the key penalty) off his stride. The Premier League is the strongest league in the world, anything can happen in games and we have seen that again (against Burnley) but we need to work hard and for the players the only way is to carry on and keep fighting to turn things around, he said.Benteke could be one of the main threats against City, with his aerial ability likely to be Palaces main attacking ploy against a team whose defence and goalkeeper are not at their strongest when dealing with crosses into the box. There will be little in the way of an attacking plan b for Palace however, with forwards Loic Remy and Bacary Sako both expected to be unavailable. Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda is also an injury concern for the hosts.City must deal with injury problems of their own. Fabian Delph has been ruled out and Vincent Kompany, Bacary Sagna and Fernando all doubts. Striker Sergio Aguero traveled back from South America late in the week, but did not feature in Argentinas midweek 3-0 win over Colombia so he should be fit to start.Palace have lost seven of their last eight league meetings with City, and failed to score in five of the last six encounters. CINCINNATI -- Bartolo Colon got an early start on New Yorks trip to Cincinnati, and it paid off in a big way for the Mets.Colon pitched six innings of five-hit ball and Matt Reynolds homered to the lead the Mets to a 5-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. We had a man on the mound today, New York manager Terry Collins said. Nothing fazes him. Gave us what he always does, quality innings. Hes an amazing guy.Colon (13-7) improved to 4-1 with a 2.25 ERA in his last seven starts. The Reds put a runner on third with nobody out on two occasions, and Colon wiggled out of the jam each time.Kelly Johnson also went deep as the Mets won for the sixth time in eight games. It was New Yorks 12th straight victory over Cincinnati. The Mets remained one game back of St. Louis for the second NL wild card after the Cardinals won 12-6 at sliding Pittsburgh.New York had a short turnaround after a 5-1 victory over Washington on Sunday night, arriving in Cincinnati early Monday morning. Four regulars -- outfielders Curtis Granderson and Yoenis Cespedes and infielders Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabera -- were out of the starting lineup. But the 43-year-old Colon got plenty of rest after traveling to Cincy on Sunday.Never had any pressure at all. I knew a lot of the veterans were getting a day off today, Colon said through a translator. Getting ahead of the hitters was key for me.Jay Bruce went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts in his first game in Cincinnati since the Reds traded him to the Mets on Aug. 1.It was a bit odd, coming over to the visiting side for the first time, Bruce said. Definitely odd being on the other side, but once the first pitch is thrown, its just baseball.Robert Stephenson, one of Cincinnatis top prospects, struck out nine in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs and six hits, but fell short in his bid to become the first Cincinnati pitcher since Wayne Simpson in 1970 to win each of his first three major league starts. The 23-year-old Stephenson (2-1), who beat Philadelphia and Colorado in a pair of spot starts in April, said feels less pressure in the majors than he did in the minor leagues. Its just confidence, he said. Im not trying to get back to this level. Im already here. Now Im just trying to have fun.Reynolds, recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas before the game, hit his third homer of the season with one out in the third inning. He also had an RBI single in New Yorks three-run seventh and finished with three hits.Reynolds checked into the Mets Cincinnati hotel at 9:15 Monday morning after flying all night from Salt Lake City. Its everything I can ask for, Reynolds said. I just want to help the team win. It just happened I had a couple of big hits.Johnson led off the fifth with his 10th homer. The Mets have hit 18 home runs in their last 11 games at Great American Ball Park and 185 overall this season for their best total since the 2006 team set the franchise record with 200.GRACIOUS HOSTSThe Reds honored Bruce and his wife, Hannah, in a pregame ceremony for his contributions to the team on the field and the couples work in the community during his nearly nine seasons with Cincinnati.AMBITIOUSNew Yorks Wilmer Flores was thrown out by left fielder Adam Duvall trying to stretch hits in each of his first two at bats, at second in the first inning and at third in the fourth. Duvall is the first Cincinnati outfielder with two assists in one game since Bruce on Aug. 5, 2014, at Cleveland, according to the Reds.DOUBLE TROUBLEAfter tying their season high by hitting into four double plays in a 5-2 loss to St. Louis on Sunday, the Reds hit into double plays in each of the first two innings on Monday against the Mets.TRAINERS ROOMReds: 2B Brandon Phillips returned to the starting lineup after being scratched each of the previous two days with a sore left foot.UP NEXTMets RHP Rafael Montero (0-0) and Reds LHP Brandon Finnegan (8-10) are scheduled to start on Tuesday. Theres a zen-like quality about Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson despite the Hawks biggest test of the AFL season coming on Thursday night. The three-time reigning premiers travel for a high-stakes top-of-the-ladder clash with great rivals Sydney.Clarkson has identified the midfield as crucial to the SCG clash, and particularly whether former Hawk Lance Franklin turns up inside 50 or out of it.But he laughed off the idea his side would need to lift their contested ball figures - on which the Hawks rank last in the league - if they are to come away with a win over the Swans.Contested ball is just a fancy term for everyone in the media. We dont give a toss about that, Clarkson said on Wednesday.Weve won five contested ball contests in about two years. Weve still won lots of games of footy. The Hawks will cede top spot on the ladder to the Swans with a loss but here too, Clarkson isnt concerned. The media wants to declare a premiership favourite every week, he said. Its great reading for all the viewers out there ... but we couldnt give a toss. Its whos playing the best footy in September and early October. And thats why Clarkson is just as unfazed by the suggestion that Hawthorn - who have six straight wins heading to Sydney - are yet to hit top gear in 2016.We werent in the greatest form this time last year either. Nor the year before that, he said. Its about chalking up the wins and trialling young players.Giving guys exposure to different positions on the ground and trying to work out the best mix.Franklin looms as Clarksons chief headache at the SCG.The dominant forward pushed up the ground last week, which Clarkson said was instrumental in the Swans win in Geelong.Despite not garnering a single vote from John Longmire or Chris Scott in the coaches player of the year award voting, Clarkson thought it was a game-changer.He doesnt have to have a dominant game in terms of scoreboard pressure to have a significant influence on the contest, he said.My view is he was the most significant player on the ground last week. The loss of Liam Shiels gives Clarkson a hole in midfield to fill, with Brendan Whitecross travelling to Sydney for what would be his first game since round six, 2015. NEW YORK -- Michael Wacha had combed his hair and dressed in a button-down shirt, all ready at his locker not long after a beer shower to celebrate his first major league win. Just as he did on the mound, the St. Louis rookie got cleaned up quick. Wacha recovered from a wild start and Allen Craig hit a three-run homer for the Cardinals in a 9-2 victory over the staggering New York Mets on Tuesday night. "Its an unbelievable feeling," Wacha said. "Hopefully, theres more to come." Matt Holliday had three hits and the NL Central leaders took full advantage of a crucial error by new Mets first baseman Daniel Murphy, who was shifted over from second after slumping Ike Davis got demoted to the minors Sunday. David Freese extended his career-best hitting streak to 20 games, longest in the majors this season, and Wacha (1-0) even knocked in a run with a groundout for his first RBI. The 21-year-old righty walked three batters and fell behind 2-0 in a 37-pitch first inning but worked his way through it and soon settled in. "The first inning was rough," he said. "Just didnt have any command over my pitches. After I got out of the first I just told myself, just flush it out and just forget about it and just go out and attack the hitters the next couple of innings." Omar Quintanilla homered for the Mets, who gave up a major league-high seven unearned runs and lost for the seventh time in eight games since a season-best five-game winning streak that included a four-game sweep of the Subway Series against the New York Yankees. They dropped 13 games under .500, their lowest mark of the year. Jeremy Hefner (1-6) had a 2-1 lead until St. Louis scored five unearned runs in the fifth, capped by Craigs fifth homer. The outburst began when Jon Jay reached on a leadoff grounder to Murphy, who knocked it down on his backhand but rushed a high, off-balance throw to Hefner covering first. "Its a groundball that I should have handled, but I booted it," Murphy said. "Its not my first time playing first base, and it gave them life." Pete Kozma doubled and Hefner slammed down the rosin bag after Wachas grounder to shortstop tied the score. Matt Carpenter walked, Yadier Molina put the Cardinals ahead with an RBI groundout and Holliday reached on an infield single before Craig drove an 0-1 pitch to left-centre for a 6-2 advantage. At his best in clutch situations, Craig came in batting .400 with runners in scoring position -- the same average he had last year. "You just cant say its a fluke when a guy does what hes done," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "Its for real. Hes just got a knack for getting it done." St. Louis, which owns baseballs best record at 42-22, added two in the seventh after Kirk Nieuwenhuis misplayed a deep fly to right for an error. Holliday had an RBI single and reliever Josh Edgin, just recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas, walked Jay with the bases loaded to force in another run. "Their lineup is a test," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "They hit to all fields. They hit to all fields with power. They stay focused pitch after pitch." Shane Robinson, who replaced Craig in right field, homered in the ninth off David Aardsma to make it 9-2. Craig made a painful-looking catch in the third when he fell at the base of the wall, where his neck and the back of his head snapped back and hit the fence. "I feel all right. Probably going to be a little sore tomorrow, but not a big deal," Craig said. "It definitely jarred me a little bit." Wacha, drafted 19th overall a year ago out of Texas A&M, was making his third major league start after an impressive outing against Kansas City and a shaky one vs. Arizona. Pitching on the road for the first time, he gave up a home run to his second batter. Marlon Byrd hit a sacrifice fly and the bases were loaded when Nieuwenhuis hit a grounder up the middle that appeared headed for centre field and a two-run single that would have given New York a 4-0 lead. Kozma, however, was positioned perfectly at shortstop and made a nice play to end the inning. It was the sort of play that often goes unnoticed, but it stopped the Mets in their tracks. Wacha did not walk another batter and yielded five hits over six solid innings before Randy Choate and Keith Butler finished up. "He just was out of rhythm and every pitcher goes through it," Matheny said. "Some of em are able to still end up in the sixth inning." New York did not manage a hit after Jordany Valdespins leadoff single in the fifth. With Davis sent down, Valdespin is getting an opportunity to play regularly at second base, his natural position. WIMBLEDON -- For many, the first week of Wimbledon has been like an itchy sweater, a paper cut, a long line at the airport. The rain delays have made players annoyed and impatient, and in the case of American women Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens Saturday, anxious to shed their discomfort and move on to a sunnier day.I told [someone] yesterday, I think I have bedsores, said Stephens, who began her postponed second-round match Friday -- a day in which she spent 12 hours in the womens locker room, much of it on the couch. I dont think Ive ever been in one position at a tournament for so long. For both Stephens, who eventually prevailed Saturday by outlasting Mandy Minella 3-6, 7-6 (6), 8-6, and Keys, who defeated Alize Cornet also in a third-round match, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, that has the feel of hard labor. For Keys, the struggle is part of the process.I mean, it would have been nice to win in straight sets, said Keys, the No. 9 seed who has won two consecutive three-set matches. But its definitely good to figure out tough situations and be able to play better in the third set.Cornet, best known here for her upset of Serena Williams in the third round two years ago, lost her third straight match to Keys. But Cornet tested the resolve of Keys, who cut down on unforced errors, and with three breaks of serve in the third set, showed why she is in the top 10 for the first time in her career and in contention for the title.Today was funny, said Keys, who moves on to meet No. 5 Simona Halep. I was walking on to Court 1 as the higher-ranked player for the first time. Obviously thats a different set of nerves that Im learning to deal with. Hopefully I get to keep trying to learn how to deal with those things, because it means that Im where I want to be.With five American women currently still in the tournament, the U.S. has a chance to advance the highest number of players to the fourth round since seven did it in 2002.Keys was especially pleased, however, talking about the victories Saturday of good friends Sam Querrey, who pulled off the upset of the year by defeating top-ranked Novak Djokovic, and Steve Johnson, who beat Grigor Dimitrov.I had Sam on one court and Stevie on the other while I was warming up for my match, Keys said. It was amazing to watch those guys do so well. Im really close with both of them. Its really fun to see people who you know work so hard get to have great tournaments like this. Its not dead, Keys said of American tennis, and Im really happy that were having positive conversations about it for once. And despite the general grumpiness of a player population that would have preferred to have the customary middle Sunday off, playing in the second week isnt so bad.I feel like it was almost a restart button thats pushed, and its almost two separate tournaments, Keys said. I think everyone just gets a little bit more focused. The matches get tougher, because obviously youre playing people who have won multiple matches. Its more that just you feel everything a little bit more once the second week rolls around. And if its a sunny week, all the better. https://www.supersonicsjerseys.com/380s-desmond-mason-jersey-supersonics.html" class="TyTxtSmlC">Desmond Mason Jersey . European rugby chiefs say they are adopting a logical position with regard to global fixture calendar negotiations that could see changes in domestic and European schedules from 2019.European Professional Club Rugby, organisers of the European Champions Cup and Challenge Cup competitions, are keen to see pool games played in one extended block throughout December and January, as opposed to three current two-week groupings in October, December and January that are separated by Aviva Premiership fixtures and autumn Tests. The European quarterfinals, currently staged in late March or early April, would be brought forward to January before the Six Nations, offering a much longer period to market and sell tickets for the European semifinals and finals in late April and May.Any European fixture restructuring would mean changes to the Premiership and Guinness PRO12 calendars, with, it is understood, potentially an October start, rather than the current early September kick-off.Its not just a question of the European tournaments, which are a key part of the northern hemisphere season and thats not going anywhere -- we have six more years on the current agreement for our competition with the leagues and the unions -- but its also about the global game, EPCR chairman Simon Halliday said. What everyone is looking for is for longer bursts of activity in their competitions, whether that is in Europe, domestic leagues, the autumn internationals, Six Nations and so on.For us, the semi-finals of the Champions Cup are among the key dates in the rugby calendar, and we owe it to ourselves to get the best position to market those matches in a way that fills up the stadiums and takes the rugby to the greatest possible crowd. This is a premium competition, and we have a responsibility to our stakeholders and to rugby as a whole, to do the best we can to maximise the potential that it has, both in sporting and financial terms, so this is a logical position to take and its something that we are in ongoing discussions about with our stakeholders.A new rugby union global calendar is set to take effect from 2019. LONDON -- Hired to revitalize Manchester United, Jose Mourinho is instead turning the clock back and losing his temper in public.A 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday left United 11 points behind leader Chelsea and without a win in four league matches at Old Trafford for the first time since 1990.That dry home spell came toward the end of a 26-year title drought which ended in 1993 with Alex Ferguson collecting the Premier League trophy. Ferguson retired in 2013 with 13 title triumphs to his name and Mourinho was appointed to recreate the Scots winning mentality at the club after three lackluster years under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal. The only current similarity between Ferguson and Mourinho, who was fired a year ago by Chelsea, is the fiery temper on the Old Trafford touchline. At least with Ferguson it produced results.Mourinho was sent to the stands for the second time in a month on Sunday after being enraged by Paul Pogba being booked for an apparent dive and kicking a water bottle.United had just recovered after conceding inside 90 seconds from Diafra Sakhos header. Pogba set up Zlatan Ibrahimovic to nod in the equalizer in the 21st minute. One day it will have to happen for us, said Mourinhos assistant, Rui Faria. Well start winning. If they dont, United faces a second season out of the Champions League and a 30 percent drop in sponsorship cash from Adidas of around 20 million pounds ($25 million). After a third of the season, United is eight points behind Arsenal in the fourth spot to qualify for Europes elite competition.---ARSENAL 3, BOURNEMOUTH 1After a four-game goal drought, Alexis Sanchez rediscovered his scoring touch with a double either side of Theo Walcotts header.A defensive blunder gifted Sanchez his 12th-minute opener, pouncing on the loose ball after an errant back pass by defender Steve Cook.A dubious penalty -- won and converted by Callum Wilson -- allowed Bournemouth to level in the 23rd. Wilson barged into Nacho Monreal before the defender was penalized for fouling the Bournemouth striker.Arsenal took until eight minutes into the second half to go back in front with Theo Walcott heading in Monreals cross. Sanchez completed the win in stoppage time from substitute Olivier Girouds pullback, highlighting the need for Arsenal to extend the Chile forwards contract which expires in 2018.It is important, Wenger said. We will not sort it tonight. We have some time in front of us. You (the media) like us to spend money, so you should be happy! While Arsenal stayed three points behind Chelsea, Bournemouth dropped to 12th.---SOUTHAMPTON 1, EVERTON 0Charlie Austin scored after only 41 seconds on a miserable return to Southampton for former manager Ronald Koeman.Josh Sims opened his Southampton debut by teeing the ball up for Austins header.Southampton climbed to 10th place, two points behind Everton, which has won only one of its last eight league games in Koemans first season in charge.---WATFORD 0, STOKE 1The architect of the only goal acknowledged it shouldnt have been awarded.Charlie Adams push on Valon Behrami was missed by the referee before his header came off the post and cannoned off Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes legs into the net.I think it was a foul actually, Adam said.Watford finished with 10 men. HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros didnt hang their heads after a five-run ninth inning allowed the Oakland Athletics to take a two-run lead Friday night. They were confident they could rally with the heart of their order due up in the bottom of the inning.Luis Valbuena drove in four runs, highlighted by a three-run homer with one out in the ninth, to lift the Astros to a wild 10-9 victory over the Athletics.Oakland took the lead with the big ninth before Jose Altuve singled with one out in the bottom of the inning. Carlos Correa struck out, but reached on a wild pitch before Valbuena connected off Ryan Madson (3-3) for his third homer in four games to give Houston the win. That inning, the way you draw it up is were in the good part of our order that we feel really comfortable with, manager A.J. Hinch said.Valbuena knew it was gone the moment he made contact.I was looking for a good pitch, he said. Trying to get the pitch I wanted and I (didnt) miss the pitch. You see what happened?Oakland manager Bob Melvin felt confident with Madson on the mound in the ninth before things went awry.I feel good whenever he takes the mound and we have the lead whether its one or two runs, Melvin said. I didnt have negative thoughts going into that inning. I fully believed we were going to win the game.Houston led by three runs entering the ninth before Yonder Alonso connected off closer Will Harris with no outs to cut the lead to 7-6. Pinch-hitter Jake Smolinski singled with one out before a double by Jed Lowrie chased Harris. He was replaced by Michael Feliz (6-1) who was greeted by the double from Davis that put the As up 8-7.Josh Reddick added a run with an RBI single to make it 9-7.Stephen Vogt had an RBI triple and Marcus Semien hit a solo homer to help Oakland take a 3-0 lead in the fourth.Correa hit a two-run homer in the fourth before the Astros went on top with a four-run fifth.Houston trailed by one run with no outs and the bases loaded in the fifth when Marwin Gonzalez singled off starter Daniel Mengden to tie it. The Astros took the lead on an RBI groundout by Altuve. Correa followed with a run-scoring single to push the lead to 5-3 and chase Mengden, who had remained in the game despite being struck in the chest by a comebacker an inning before.Correa got in a rundown trying to stretch his hit into a double and Altuve broke for home on the play. Semien threw home in time to tag out Altuve and allow Correa to reach second.Marc Rzepczynski took over and allowed an RBI single from Valbuena to make it 6-3.Houston starter Collin McHugh allowed eight hits and four runs in six innings and remains winless since May 30.Mengden, a rookie who is from Houston and attended nearby Texas A&M, yielded six hits and a season-high six runs in a season-low 4 2/3 innings.Altuve singled with no outs in the fourth for Houstons first hit before Correas 14th homer cut the lead to 3-2. It was the 35th home run of his career to tie him with Adam Everett for most home runs by a shortstop in franchise history.Mengden was shaken up later in that inning when a hit by Carlos Gomez bounced off his glove and hit him in the chest before dropping to the ground. He picked the ball up and got it to first for the out before being tended to by a trainer. It took him a minute to catch his breath before he threw a couple of warmup pitches and remained in the game.I think it is one of those things that scared me more than it hurt, Mengden said. And that was before having to watch Carlos Rodon tie an AL record by striking out the first seven Twins and Tim Anderson flirt with the cycle for the White Sox.I think a lot of people are looking for a chance to kind of put this one to rest, he said.Hours later, after the Chicago White Sox cruised to a 7-3 victory Friday night, the Twins had their most losses since the franchise moved to Minnesota: 103.You kind of get what you deserve, a subdued Molitor said. The Twins couldnt hit Rodon to start and couldnt get Anderson out while fuming at his home run celebration. Its the most losses for the franchise since the Washington Senators went 50-104 in 1949. The Twins, who moved to Minnesota in 1960, are 57-103 with two games left.Thats tough to swallow, right-hander Tyler Duffey said. But its part of the game, part of learning and part of getting better.Duffey (9-12) gave up five runs in two-plus innings to ensure Minnesota wont have a 10-game winner in their miserable season.Rodon quickly set the tone for Minnesotas dubious night that topped the 102-loss Twins of 1982.The 23-year-old lefty fanned Brian Dozier, Jorge Polanco and Robbie Grossman on sliders in the first. He got Miguel Sano on a fastball, Kennys Vargas on a changeup and saw Eduardo Escobar chase a slider in the dirt in the second. When John Ryan Murphy was caught looking at a 97 mph fastball to lead off the third, Rodon tied the AL record for strikeouts to start a game set by Joe Cowley of the White Sox on May 28, 1986, at Texas.Youve just got to throw strikes, go right at them, Rodon said.Logan Schafers ensuing double left Rodon one strikeout shy of the major league record to start a game shared by the Astros Jim Deshaies and the Mets Jacob deGrom.Rodons strikeout streak was 10 when figuring in the final three hitters he faced while fanning 11 in a victory Sunday at Cleveland. The last pitcher to strike out 10 in a row was Eric Gagne of the Dodgers over four ggames in May 2003.ddddddddddddDuffey gave up six hits while getting six outs. Omar Narvaez hit his first career homer in the fourth off Pat Dean as the White Sox built a 7-0 lead.Anderson, a rookie, finished a double shy of the cycle and irritated Duffey after hitting a two-run homer in the third inning.I mean he backpedaled out of the box. Stood there and enjoyed it, Duffey said. Its just one of those things. Its one thing to hit a homer. I gave up a 500-foot homer to Nelson Cruz and he jogs around the bases.Ryan ORourke threw behind Anderson in the eighth and both benches were warned. Anderson then grounded to third to end his chances at the cycle. He tripled and scored in the first and singled in the sixth.I wanted to hit a double. I did it in Double-A, Anderson said. When everything is clicking for you, I feel real great.Rodon (9-10) was dominant until a 31-pitch sixth inning when he gave up three runs -- two earned -- to end his night. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out 10 in Chicagos sixth win in seven games.TRAINERS ROOMTwins: 1B Joe Mauer (quadriceps) remained out. ... Molitor said veteran C Kurt Suzuki has taken a beating and wont catch again this season. Suzuki is in the last year of his contract. Its probably been as awkward a month for him as anybody in that clubhouse when youre potentially playing out into your free agency as a catcher in your early 30s, Molitor said.White Sox: Tests showed 2B Tyler Saladino has a herniated disk. He had an epidural Monday and doesnt believe hell need surgery. It was kind of crippling for a little bit, he said.DOZIER BACKReturning from his first off day since May 24, Dozier extended his slump to 1 for 32 before singling and scoring in the sixth. He remained at 42 homers and 99 RBI.UP NEXTWhite Sox RHP James Shields (6-18, 5.82 ERA) closes a tough season Saturday night against Twins LHP Hector Santiago (12-10, 4.87). ' ' '
