Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn. Phil McConkey Giants Jersey .ca. Hi Mr. Fraser, When I was watching the Heritage Classic in Vancouver there was a play midway through the third where Ottawa crashed the Canucks net and it came off its moorings. A Canuck picked up the puck, went the other way and the play was only whistled down when an Ottawa player touched it. I was wondering if there is anything keeping the Canuck goalie from going to the bench for an extra skater since in some ways its almost like a delayed Ottawa penalty? Thanks,Phil Meehan,Singapore Phil: We welcome you all the way from Singapore! Your suggestion qualifies you as a hockey rules visionary and places you in a unique category that would include the late, great coach and friend, Roger Neilson. Rog always thought outside the box as you have done with your question here in an effort to use the rules to his teams advantage. In the situation you propose, there is virtually no risk for a legal goal being scored against the non-offending team should the goalkeeper skate to his players bench in favor of an extra attacker. This would include any similar situation we saw earlier this season where Patrick Kane put the puck into his own net with the goalkeeper removed for an extra attacker on delayed penalty call. This is verified by the fact that video review can determine if a puck has been put in the net prior to the goal frame being dislodged. If through some misadventure this were to occur the goal would be disallowed. (Situations Subject to Video Review; rule 38.4 - ii). Before blasting off to the bench however, I would caution the goalkeeper to make sure that the net is completely off its moorings as defined by rule 78.4 and in the event that the referee should allow play to continue. From rule 78.4: "The goal frame shall be considered in its proper position when at least a portion of the flexible peg(s) are still inside both the goal post and the hole in the ice. The flexible pegs could be bent, but as long as at least a portion of the flexible peg(s) are still in the hole in the ice and the goal post, the goal frame shall be deemed to be in its proper position. The goal frame could be raised somewhat on one post (or both), but as long as the flexible pegs are still in contact with the holes in the ice and the goal posts, the goal frame shall not be deemed to be displaced." (The NHL rule is contrary to the IIHF definition of net off the moorings. We saw evidence of this in Sochi with Fedor Tyutins potentially game winning goal in the Russia-U.S.A. game being disallowed when Jonathan Quick bumped the post causing it to move back and off its set location but still in contact with the rubber pegs and the hole in the ice.) Heres a hypothetical to also consider on a play of this nature. If the pegs happened to remain in contact with the post and the hole in the ice (deemed in its proper position as per 78.4), should the goalkeeper deliberately push the net completely off the moorings prior to skating he could be subject to a delay of game penalty. Additionally, the goalkeeper should make certain the referee did not relocate the net in its proper position in an effort to sustain play prior to skating to his bench for an extra attacker. Captain Video, as Roger Neilson was referred to for his cutting edge, innovative use of video for game analysis, would be proud of your coaching suggestion Phil. Several rule changes were implemented as a result of Rogers knowledge of the rules and his ability to think outside the box. Only a goalkeeper is allowed defend a penalty shot after Roger placed a defenceman in the net and had him charge the shooter. A goal is now awarded if the goalkeeper places his stick across the goal line prior to going to the bench for an extra attacker and the stick prevents a puck from entering the unattended net. You can credit Roger for that rule as well. Towel waving by fans goes back to the 1982 Stanley Cup Playoff game in Chicago when Roger tied a white towel to a hockey stick and "surrendered" to referee Bob Myers. Roger and three of his players were rightly ejected from the game by the referee but it turned the series around and ignited the Canuck fans with a tradition of towel waiving that remains to this day! Under Coach Neilson the Canucks advanced to the 1982 Stanley Cup Final. In a very classy move by the Ottawa Senators (and then head coach Jacques Martin), Martin stepped aside for the final two games of the 2001-02 regular season to allow Roger Neilson, an Ottawa assistant, to be the coach of record and gain credit for his 1,000th NHL game. When the final horn sounded it was my honor as the referee in that game to embrace Coach Roger Neilson on the ice and offer my sincere congratulations in honor of his 1,000th NHL game. Roger was humble and gracious as always. On November 4, 2002 Roger Neilson was inducted into the Builders Category of the Hockey Hall of Fame. On June 21, 2003 Roger Neilson passed at the age of 69 and following his battle with cancer. Roark pitched three-hit ball for eight innings, struck out a career-high 11 and walked none, and Anthony Rendon hit a two-run homer Friday night to lead the Nationals to a 6-0 victory against the Padres. In two starts against the Padres this season, he has allowed only six hits in 17 scoreless innings, struck out 19 and walked one. "Everything felt good coming out of my hand," he said. "Thats a plus." The right-hander took a one-hitter into the eighth before Rene Rivera hit a leadoff single and pinch-hitter Tommy Medica had a one-out base hit. Roark (4-4) beat the Padres 4-0 at Washington on April 26th, throwing a three-hitter for his first career shutout. He struck out eight that game, his previous career high. Roark said the key was throwing first-pitch strikes. "That really gets a hitter on his heels and gives you confidence," he said. "I dont try to strike guys out. I just try to make quality pitches. Strikeouts happen. Today everything was working." Said manager Matt Williams: "Hes just been pitching like that for us all year. He just continues to pound the zone, all of his pitches. Pretty impressive." The Nationals won their fourth straight and for the sixth time in seven games. "Same thing he showed over in Washington," Padres manager Bud Black said of Roark. "Mixed his pitches, changed his speeds, commanded his fastball a little bit different than in his start in Washington. In Washington, he used his curveballs, more changeups." San Diego has just 15 hits in five games. On Wednesday, Everth Cabrera bunted for a single in the first inning for San Diegos only hit in a 3-2 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates. "You have to keep going through it," Black said. "You have to keep your nose to the grindstone and keep working. There is no magic formula to this. YYou keep working, you keep busting your butt in the cage, you keep watching video, you keep your confidence, you keep telling yourself youre going to have good at-bats, you stay together as a team, you hang in there in the hopes that it will turn. Shane Vereen Jersey. ." Padres starter Tyson Ross (6-5) had a bad night. He walked Washingtons Denard Span to open the game and then allowed Rendons homer to left field, his ninth. Rendon, the third baseman, came out after grounding out in the sixth. He was struck in the right hand trying to field Carlos Quentins smash in the fourth inning and committed a throwing error. He committed a fielding error the next inning. Williams said X-rays were negative. Ross was chased during a nightmarish four-run sixth inning in which he had a throwing error, wild pitch, walked two, hit a batter and allowed two hits. Ross allowed an RBI double to Wilson Ramos that bounced over the fence in right-centre and then walked Ian Desmond to load the bases. Ross hit Danny Espinosa on the left knee to force in a run and Nate McClouth hit a two-run single to right to end Ross night. Ross allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits in 5 1-3 innings. He struck out seven and walked three. NOTES: The Padres placed 2B Jedd Gyorko on the 15-day disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, retroactive to Wednesday. Gyorko has struggled after signing a $35 million, six-year contract extension in April. Hes hitting just .162. Manager Bud Black says Gyorko had an anti-inflammatory shot, will use a walking boot and will wear a strap when he sleeps to keep the arch stretched out. ... LHP Eric Stults was activated from the bereavement list. Hes scheduled to start Sunday. ... The Padres will make two more roster moves Saturday, when RHP Andrew Cashner (2-5, 2.35) is due to be activated from the disabled list and start against the Nationals. NASHVILLE -- While Jake Locker will miss a "few weeks" with a sprained hip, coach Mike Munchak says the Titans are encouraged by how the quarterback already is moving around. Juan Uribe Indians Jersey . Exactly how many games Locker misses depends on how quickly he recovers. "If anyones going to get back quick, its him," Munchak said Tuesday night during his weekly radio show on 104.5 The Zone WGFX-FM. "We know hes going to miss a few games and now its just going to be a matter of how well he rehabs and how quickly it comes around to see exactly when. We wont know for a couple weeks how close he could be to playing." The Titans released a statement earlier Tuesday, saying a second MRI exam was "reassuring" and confirmed Locker did not suffer major damage to his hip joint. Locker sprained his right hip and also his right knee. Munchak had dismissed reports Monday that Locker would miss at least a month and possibly up to eight weeks, saying everyone was just "guessing." He said then they needed the second MRI exam because Locker had swelling in his hip. Munchak said Tuesday night they wanted to be cautious. "Then today they said that this looks a lot better than we thought," Munchak said. "Hes still got a lot of work ahead of him no doubt, but its good news to know that hes got just a sprain of the hip area and also the knee." Munchak said Locker started his rehabilitation Tuesday and also took part in the quarterbacks weekly session. Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Sunday for the Titans (3-1) against Kansas City (4-0), and Tennessee has not made any roster move yet to add another quarterback to the roster. Rusty Smith already is on the practice squad, but the Titans would have to release someone else to promote him to the roster in a move that would not have to be made until Saturday. The timing could not be worse for the Titans. Locker missed five games last season with an injured left shoulder for a team that lost four of its first five games. The Titans now are off to a strong start, and Locker certainly is a reason why. Locker currently is the third-ranked quarterback in the AFC by passer rating behind Denvers Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers of San Diego. Locker currently has a 99 passer rating and is completing a career-high 62.2 per cent of his passes with six touchdowns and no interceptions. The Titans wrap up a three-game home stand against the Chiefs on Sunday before visiting Seattle (4-0) on Oct. 13. They host San Francisco (2-2) before their bye. If Locker is out for only a month, he could be on target to return Nov. 3 when Tennessee visits St. Louis. Ricky Vaughn Indians Jersey . The Canadiens accomplished both. Alex Galchenyuk scored the only shootout goal, and the Canadiens got their fifth win in six games, 2-1 over the Bruins on Monday night. Reassurance came from Paul Tesori, his caddie and close friend whose newborn son is in intensive care in a Florida hospital. "Paul sent me a text this morning, just told me he loved me and wanted to go out and fight as hard as I would any other day," Simpson said Sunday after doing just that. Simpson made four birdies in a five-hole stretch on the back nine at Kapalua for a 5-under 68, giving him a share of the lead with defending champion Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth going into the final round Monday on the Plantation Course. On a glorious day of sun and surf, Simpson played with a heavy heart. His caddie and friend, Paul Tesori, was in a hospital in Florida with newborn son Isaiah in intensive care. Simpson said the child suffered a seizure shortly after he was born with indications of an infection in his brain. One of Tesoris best friends in the business is Ted Scott, the caddie for Bubba Watson, who is filling in this week as Simpsons caddie. Tesori tweeted that he tuned into the telecast at Kapalua in time to see his sons name on Scotts hat. "I felt like we were out there playing for Isaiah," Simpson said. "Paul needs something to watch there in the hospital. Its been a long few days, so hopefully, we gave him something good to see on TV. But it was tough. I was thinking about him a lot out there." Winning on Monday wont be easy. Simpson was the first to reach 14-under 205, thanks to a terrific par save on the 17th and a long two-putt par on the 18th hole, a par 5 with a front hole location that made it difficult to get close because the green and the grain move sharply away. Spieth, the 20-year-old Texan who looks just as good as he did during a sensational rookie season, got back into the mix with a tough birdie on the par-3 eighth and capped off a 69 with a 15-foot birdie putt on the 17th and a long two-putt for par on the 18th. Spieth won the John Deere Classic last year. This is his first time with at least a share of the 54-hole lead. "This is a new position for me," Spieth said. "Ive never slept on a 54-hole lead. Im excited about it and its going to be a fun time tomorrow to get to play with Webb for the third time this week." The most intimidating figure is Johnson, whose power is suited for the Plantation Course. Johnson also had a 69 and was disappointed at playing the par 5s in 3-under for the day. One of them was a tap-in eagle on the par-5 ninth. But he hhad to settle for pars on the long holes on the back nine. Manny Ramirez Indians Jersey. One shot hit the front of the green and rolled off the putting surface on the 15th and into a valley. On the 18th, his 4-iron came up short and left him a pitch that had to be perfect. It was a few inches from that. The pitch didnt have enough roll to glide with the grain and left him a 15-foot birdie chance that he missed. "Other than that, I played pretty good," Johnson said. No matter. Hes still tied for the lead, still in good position to start the new year the same way he did in 2013. Zach Johnson, who had a three-shot lead going into the third round, couldnt make anything and shot a 74. His only birdie was a two-putt on the par-5 fifth hole. Still, he was only two shots behind at 12-under 207 heading into the Monday finish. Instead of building his lead, Zach Johnson effectively gave more players in this winners-only field a chance. Gary Woodland (67), PGA champion Jason Dufner (69), Brandt Snedeker (69) and Kevin Streelman, who had a 33 on the back nine to salvage a 70, were within three shots of the lead. Masters champion Adam Scott wasted a chance to join them. Scott was at 11-under and in range of the par-5 15th until he smothered a long iron into the hazard and had to scramble for a bogey. He missed a 7-foot birdie putt on the next hole, missed the green and took bogey on the 17th and closed with a birdie for a 69. He still was only four shots behind. Simpson has made 12 of his 18 birdies this week on the back nine, and his hopes are to stay in the mix and work one more day of magic. The most intriguing character in this mix is Spieth, who a year ago didnt have status on any tour in the world. A couple of good finishes on tour through sponsor exemptions helped secure his card. He won at the John Deere Classic, finished No. 7 in the FedEx Cup, played in the Presidents Cup team and came into the week at No. 22 in the world. This figures to be a big test -- a share of the lead, contending with the defending champion and a major champion. Spieth figures he cleared a big hurdle Sunday when he didnt lose patience over a few bad breaks. He thought back to last year, when he struggled in the third round. He wasted good birdie chances on the 15th and 16th and was starting to run hot. "But I got to 17 tee box and thankfully, that view kind of calmed me down a little bit and I was able to snag a birdie there," he said. Spieth figures to need more of those Monday, as will everyone else who wants to open the year with a win and guarantee a return to Maui next year. OAKLAND, Calif. Matt Duffy Giants Jersey . - Sweating out the last month of the playoff chase might be just what the Dallas Mavericks need to regroup for another run at an NBA title. Dirk Nowitzki scored 27 points and former Golden State lottery pick Brandan Wright had 16 points and nine rebounds, leading the Mavericks past the Warriors 112-103 on Thursday night in another unexpectedly tight game for the defending champions. "Wed rather have this than resting guys," said Jason Terry, who had 16 points and made some big shots late. Jason Kidd added 12 assists, 10 rebounds and nine points to pace the Mavericks to a 19-point lead before hanging on late, moving 1 1/2 games behind Memphis for the Western Conferences fifth playoff seed. The Grizzlies lost 107-97 to San Antonio earlier in the night. The Mavericks are just a half-game ahead of Denver and Houston and trying to regain that rhythm that propelled them to an improbable title last summer. "Its the kind of pressure that you like," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. "It brings you to higher levels and we embrace it. We embraced it last year in the playoffs and it got us a ring." Theyll take a better seeding, for now, even if it comes in shaky wins against an overmatched opponent. David Lee had 30 points and eight rebounds and rookie Klay Thompson finished with 24 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the shorthanded Warriors. Golden State has lost three straight and is already eliminated from playoff contention. "We, for some reason in the first half, were a step behind on every play defensively, and you could just see it sometimes as a coach and as a player," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. Dallas survived late behind its usual playmakers. After the Warriors whittled the deficit to three early in the fourth quarter, Nowitzki returned and took charge. The 7-footer made a difficult fadeaway and backed down defenders for a layup to start an avalanche of offence. Terry followed by swishing a walk-up 3-pointer in front of the Warriors bench. Then Nowitzki passed out of a double-team to find Vince Carter for another 3 and put away Golden State for good. These Warriors had little chance of a lasting comeback. Point guard Stephen Curry (sprained right ankle) and centre Andrew Bogut (fractured left ankle) are likely out for the season. Leading scorer Monta Ellis and forward Ekpe Udoh departed in the trade that netted Bogut from Milwaukee, and Jackson has only a shattered roster remaining to explain why his misguided playoff prediction predictably flopped. Not until Nate Robinson swished a jumper and a 3-pointer and Brandon Rush dunked to open the fourth did Warriors fans -- who still packed Oracle Arena with an announced crowd of 17,929 to cheer a franchise with one playoff appearance since 1994 -- get riled up for anything other than next season. The shots sliced Dallas lead to 89-86, giving the defending NBA champions a scare. "It means nothing when you give up 112 points," Thompson said. The scare was brief. The site of another familiar face -- a constant theme in these parts -- ripping the home team did most of that early. Wright, drafted eighth overall by the Warriors in 2007, bullied and bruised his way around the paint against Golden States undersized frontline. He had 12 points and six rebounds off the bench by halftime, including a pair of dunks. The Mavericks, who plucked the injury-riddled Wright -- traded to New Jersey by the Warriors after 2 1/2 seasons -- out of free agency in December, opened the game open behind patches of open space with the forward drawing so much attention. Nowitzki followed with a flurry of jumpers, giving Dallas a 60-41 lead late in the second quarter to take complete control. "Its a race to the finish line," said Mavericks forward Shawn Marion, who scored 7 points. "Every game counts here on out." NOTES: Bogut was shooting around before the game without his walking boot for the first time since being acquired in the March 13 trade. ... The Mavericks improved to 12-5 against the Warriors since being upset by Golden State in the first round of the 2007 playoffs, when Dallas was the top seed and coming off an NBA finals loss to Miami a year earlier. ... The Warriors held the teams second annual Bollywood Night, which featured Indian-themed music, outfits and other entertainment during intermissions. San Francisco Giants Jersey . No such luck. Against the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night, the Nets found the 10-point plateau a little easier to clear. Five players scored in double figures for the Nets as they easily defeated Charlotte 105-89 at Barclays Center. Paul Pierce led the way with 25 points for Brooklyn, including 5-for-5 shooting from 3-point range. Deron Williams added 13 points and seven assists, and Andre Blatche scored 13 off the bench. Brooklyn was 13 of 31 from beyond the arc. The Nets were consistently able to use dribble penetration and solid ball movement to find the open man. And when they got open looks, they took advantage. Pierce said ball movement has been the difference in his teams resurgence of late, and it was largely responsible for his big night against the Bobcats. "When we make the extra pass, the ball is eventually going to find the open man," Pierce said. "Ive been a product of that as of late, and Im knocking down shots right now." Nets coach Jason Kidd agreed that ball movement was critical to his clubs success, but thought its defensive play in limiting Al Jefferson to 12 points was equally crucial. "It all started on the defensive end," Kidd said. "Getting stops and then being able to take advantage. ... We wanted to double-team (Jefferson) a little bit early to not let him get in a rhythm. The guys executed the game plan." Kemba Walker led the Bobcats with 16 points. Jefferson, who scored at least 26 in each of his previous three games, was held to 5-for-13 shooting. With the win, the Nets improved to 14-5 this calendar year. Pierce believes that as good as things have been for Brooklyn lately, the Nets have the potential to get even better as they get more comfortable with each other. "Weve developed some chemistry since the new year. I mean, you can tell by the way weve moved the ball, the way were defending. Everybody seems to be on the same page. And when you have that type of chemistry, and that type of talent, were going to be a tough team to beat when we put it together," he said. Brooklyn went on a 15-3 run to open the third quarter, extending its lead to 17, and never looked back. The lopsided margin of victory afforded Kidd the opportunity to rest his starterrs for much of the fourth quarter. Sergio Romo Jersey. With a quick turnaround Thursday night against Chicago to close out the first-half schedule, Kidd recognized the importance of being able to get his key players a breather. "A veteran ballclub understands that the games right before the break are important because youre planning vacations, or planning to go to All-Star weekend, and sometimes the game becomes secondary," he said. "A lot of the guys, for the most part, didnt play a lot of minutes, so well see what happens tomorrow." Charlotte got off to a solid start offensively in its final game before the All-Star break. But the Bobcats struggled mightily after that, putting up a meagre 34 points combined in the second and third quarters. Bobcats coach Steve Clifford thought the fact that his club only turned the ball over 10 times was somewhat misleading. He thought his team was listless, and made a number of unforced errors that cost it a chance to win. "You have to play with more discipline," Clifford said. "When the chance is there to make a play, you have to make it. I thought our turnovers were just terrible." The Bobcats defeated Dallas at home Tuesday, but Jefferson didnt think the loss could be chalked up to fatigue. "They were ready and we werent," he said. "We cant just have excuses because we played last night. Thats the NBA; we have to be ready to play these types of games, especially to be a playoff team." The Bobcats have lost their last nine games when finishing off a back-to-back. Clifford understands that needs to change if his squad is going to contend for a playoff spot. "The bottom line is we have to be able to play better in these games," Clifford said. "The second night of back-to-backs earlier in the year, we were better. The last few times back-to-backs, weve been inconsistent." The Bobcats will be have a chance to reverse the trend right away when they open the second half with a back-to-back against the Detroit Pistons starting next Tuesday. NOTES: Pierce scored 14 of his 25 points in the third. ... The Nets have won four straight at Barclays Center, and 11 of their last 13. ... One night after posting a season-high 54.9 field goal percentage, Charlotte managed only 41.4 per cent from the floor. ... The Nets will play their next seven games on the road, starting with a national TV date against Chicago on Thursday night. MINNEAPOLIS -- Zygi Wilf beamed in the middle of the sharp-dressed group, a gold-painted shovel in his hands, a purple Vikings hard hat on his head and star running back Adrian Peterson by his side. Brandon Doughty Jersey . Finally, the work on Minnesotas polarizing and long-sought new stadium was under way. After more than a decade of planning, dealing and pleading, the $1 billion project began Tuesday with a formal groundbreaking in downtown Minneapolis. About 600 people, including local politicians, business leaders and chanting fans, were in attendance as Wilf, Peterson, Gov. Mark Dayton and many others took turns flipping dirt and smiling for photos as fireworks exploded overhead. The grinning and digging took place in the parking lot next to the Metrodome, where the Vikings have played since 1982. Their last game there is Dec. 29, and a three-month demolition of the Teflon-topped stadium will start in mid-January. After two years outdoors at the University of Minnesota, the Vikings are scheduled to inaugurate the ship-shaped, glass-encased venue in time for the 2016 season. During a set of speeches in a nearby tent, Dayton joked that he felt just like Vikings coach Leslie Frazier after the teams 23-20 overtime victory Sunday over Chicago. "I cant believe its over, and I cant believe we won," Dayton said. State lawmakers enacted a bill last year to fund the stadium with the threat, real or perceived, of the 52-year-old franchise moving to Los Angeles hovering over the often-tense process. Many of the same hard-core, costumed fans who camped out at the state capitol to help lobby for a deal were at the event Tuesday, their presence recognized by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak. "Sometimes democracy includes painting faces and wearing horns," Rybak said. The public is on the hook for roughly half the cost: $498 million. The NFL and Vikings are handling the rest, with much of the teams share coming from corporate naming rights and fees on season ticketholders, known as personal seat licenses. Many lawmakers and citizens have railed against the project since it was first raised as a possibility around the turn of the century when Red McCombs owned the team. Dayton was a driving force behind the legislation, but even he publicly criticized the Vikings for the proposed PSLs. The Vikings recently pledged to increase their contribution to more than $500 million to make sure the project has all the top-end amenities they want, like high-definition televisions in extra-wide concourses. "Whatever that took to get that done, we had to step up because our fans are what this is all about," Mark Wilf said in an interview after the event. He added: "When its actually here and you see the shovels out there beginning to dig, its exciting." Its also a nice respite from a challenging season. The Vikings have gone from a 10-6 playoff team in 2012 to a 3-8-1 mess this year. And the Wilfs, who built their fortune in a family real estate business, were ordered in September by a New Jersey court to pay $84.5 million to two former business partners the judge ruled they defrauded in a deal forged in the 1980s. So this event was a true highlight. "This is a positive, exciting and great project, and thats been our focus," Mark Wilf said. "I think as the project goes up, as people start seeing the frame go up, and the building become a reality over these next 2 1/2 years, and the jobs being created and the excitement being generated, I think its going to be something that all Minnesotans can appreciate." Mark Wilf declined to answer a question about the performance of Frazier and general manager Rick Spielman. "Were of course disappointed in our season. We didnt expect to be where we are," he said. "One of our goals was to get the stadium project built and have a great facility but our ultimate goal is to win championships and Super Bowls." Away from the festivities, a collection of conservative groups and lawmakers held a counter-event to try to keep focus on the stadiums heavy taxpayer subsidy. They described the financing as shaky, noting that a prior plan to pay for the $350 million state share through electronic gambling has fallen woefully short of projections. Lawmakers plugged the gap in a stadium account this year with a one-time diversion of tobacco taxes and for the future with a corporate tax. "Its a bad day for Minnesotans," said Republican state Sen. Roger Chamberlain. "Were talking about taxpayers paying for Zygi to walk away with hundreds of millions in his pocket if he sold the team, not to mention the increased annual profits. This is not about having football or no football, stadium or no stadium. We could have done this a better way." The stadium plan also relies on $150 million in city taxes from Minneapolis. The first pick in the 2012 draft showed a glimpse Thursday night of why there was optimism in Edmonton before the season. The Pittsburgh Penguins have made the playoffs for eight years running, but losing in Game Seven of the second round this year caused them to clean house, firing GM Ray Shero and head coach Dan Bylsma. Off-Season Game Plan looks at a Penguins team that has a new general manager, Jim Rutherford, and is still looking for a coach, but will surely expect to ice Cup contender next season. Its a little difficult to forecast what next years Penguins club will look like, not knowing yet who will be coaching, but its safe to expect some significant turnover on the roster. Pittsburghs third and fourth lines were obliterated for much of last season and many of those players are unrestricted free agents, so thats a starting point for change. Then, pending free agent D Matt Niskanen is coming off a career year that should price him out of the Penguins cap, as will Brooks Orpik, so there will be openings on the blueline for young defencemen to step in and play. In goal, maybe the new regime sticks with Marc-Andre Fleury for the final year of his contract, or maybe they will be more aggressive and go for sweeping changes. If the Penguins are inclined to move Fleury or James Neal or Kris Letang, that would be a big-splash move. Given their lack of depth on defence, moving Letang would be risky, but if Rutherford is inclined to shake things up, maybe the Penguins will look different than they did in 2013-2014, and maybe thats not an altogether bad idea. Sounds great, right? Well, it was up until the playoffs, when Crosby had a positively mortal showing, with one goal and nine points in 13 games. His possession numbers in the playoffs were still outstanding, but when the Penguins leave the playoffs earlier than expected, no one wants possession stats, they want goals. So, Crosbys rep takes a hit for that playoff slump, but hes still the best in the game so long as he stays healthy. Injuries have started to pose a problem for Evgeni Malkin over the past couple seasons, as hes missed 39 games in two years since he led the league in scoring 2011-2012. While Crosby has been the leagues top even-strength point producer over the past couple seasons, Malkin ranks 19th, which is good, but not befitting his skill level, which is right at the top of the league. Over the same time frame, hes more effective with the man advantage, ranking fifth in points/60 during 5-on-4 play. So long as the Penguins have those two, they have a chance to contend for the Cup but, as weve seen over the past five seasons, it cant be just those two. The supporting cast matters. Since the start of the 2011-2012 season, James Neal ranks fifth in goals (8 and tied for 17th in points (17 with strong possession stats, yet hes another player coming off a disappointing playoff performance (2 G, 2 A in 13 GP) and has been mentioned as a possible trade candidate if the Penguins are looking for a major shake-up. Neal is on a very reasonable contract, for the next four seasons, but maybe thats what makes him even more appealing and could yield the highest rate of return. Dealing a 26-year-old scoring power forward isnt an easy decision, but is an option available to new GM Rutherford. A 34-year-old coming off a career-best season, Chris Kunitz set career-best marks in goals (35), points (6 and played a career-high 19:09 per game. However, he faded down the stretch, with 13 points in 24 games from the start of February through the end of the regular season and he consistently gets leveled with criticism that his production is tied to his place on Crosbys wing. No matter with whom Kunitz has played, his possession numbers have always been excellent, so he warrants a top-six role, but as he hits his mid-thirties, its also reasonable to expect decline. Pascal Dupuis missed more than half of the 2013-2014 season after tearing his ACL, and while hes been a solid player alongside Crosby, theres a feeling that the Penguins could do better with a more skilled player in that spot. If Dupuis is back up to speed next season, he should have an opportunity to reclaim his old gig, but it wouldnt come as a shock if the 35-year-old, with one season of more than 50 points on his resumé, was placed into more of a checking/two-way role. A couple injuries, most notably wrist surgery, limited Beau Bennett to just 21 games in his second pro season and while his point production hasnt yet broken through, he had impressive possession numbers and saw regular time in a top-six role once he returned to the lineup. Going into next season, Bennett may have first crack at a spot on one of the Penguins scoring lines. Craig Adams has missed two games in the past five seasons and the durable checker doensnt cheat on the effort he gives night-in and night-out. He also scores remarkably little for as much as he plays -- the 12:28 per game he logged last season representing his highest average time on ice since 2003-2004. Thats probably too much ice time for a 37-year-old who has been getting obliterated in possession terms for a while now, but Adams is an inexpensive depth forward with two Stanley Cups to his credit. Similarly durable, Brandon Sutter has missed one game in the past four seasons and while he gets fed defensive zone starts as the Penguins No. 3 center, Sutter has been getting thumped possession-wise with the Penguins. Maybe thats a function of subpar linemates, and that could be improved with offseason additions, but Sutter could use a better season in 2014-2015 to establish his credentials as a two-way checking centre. The priority for the Penguins this offseason should be to upgrade their third and fourth lines. While that might be considered tweaking, adding three or four legitimate forwards to the roster is more than cosmetic change. How the Penguins fill out their forward vacancies will be hugely important, but its not going to be easy. Even with young, inexpensive defencemen on the roster, the Penguins have marquee players like Crosby, Malkin and Neal that take up a good chunk of the cap room and when the Penguins need to add as many bodies as they do, it would really help to find a bargain or two. Some options that could be of interest include: Nikolai Kulemin, Blake Comeau, Brian Boyle, Steve Ott, Steve Downie, Derek MacKenzie, Manny Malhotra, Jay McClement and Peter Regin; the Pegnuins also may want to re-sign Brian Gibbons, who showed enough in half a season to warrant a full-time role. However, Letang had quite a 2013-2014 season, marked by suffering a stroke which, combined with other injuries, contributed to his missing 45 games. When he did play, Letang finished with a career-high 11 goals, yet his relative possession stats were the worst of his career and he also had the lowest on-ice shooting percentage of his career, which is most likely a run of bad luck. With all that in the file, along with Letangs pricey contract extension kicking in, its possible that hes part of a major shake-up, though the stroke might make it difficult for another team to pull the trigger, no matter how well Letang has played when healthy. A broken leg and broken hand cost Paul Martin more than half of last season, and while Martin has handled a heavy workload for the Penguins -- nearly 25 minutes per game over the past couple seasons -- hes also seen his puck possession numbers dip, which could be function of others in the Pittsburgh lineup, but it doesnt reflect well on Martin. Hes 33 and heading into the final year of his contract, so an extension is possible, or maybe the new regime will be fine to let Martin play it out. Olli Maatta had a wonderful rookie season, earning a bigger role with his steady play. The 19-year-old was poised and not afraid to join the play -- his 29 points ranking fifth among teen defencemen since 2000 -- so while he arrived without too much fanfare last season, expectations will justifiably be higher for Maatta next year. It wont be easy, however, since hes not likely to be ready for the start of the year as he recovers from off-season shoulder surgery. A physical presence when hes in the lineup, Robert Bortuzzo saw action in a career-high 54 games last season and hes on the edge of a spot in the lineup. He doesnt move the puck well enough to climb the depth chart, but as a six or seven, hes probably a reasonable fit. Times get tough for defensive defencemen as they age, what with the wear and tear of constant battles and blocked shots, and so it goes with 35-year-old Rob Scuderi, a two-time Cup winner who was stuck in his own end a lot last season. The good news for the Penguins is that they have defence in the pipeline. Simon Despres, Brian Dumoulin, Derrick Pouliot (when healthy) are all prospects that should be able to help, very soon. He was even okay in this years playoffs, his .915 save percentage in the postseason was the second-best of his career. He has one year left on his current contract and its possible that the Penguins will let that play out, but maybe not. 27-year-old Jeff Zatkoff finally reached The Show, while Tomas Vokoun was out for the season, and Zatkoff was a serviceable backup for 20 games, earning a new contract that makes him a very inexpensive backup. An elite puck-moving defenceman who can run the power play and blast from the point, Pouliot had 102 points in 79 WHL (regular season plus playoff) games last season. His arrival in the NHL will be delayed as he recovers from shoulder surgery, but even if that means hes not an option for the first hallf of next season, theres a chance that Pouliot could contribute after that. A new regime may be just what the doctor ordered for Simon Despres, the 30th pick in the 2009 Draft, who has played well in his NHL opportunities, putting up 16 points in 85 career games, but also hasnt been able to lock up a regular spot. With free agents likely on the move and Pouliot recovering from surgery, Despres should have a very good chance to stick with Pittsburgh next season. Acquired from Carolina in the Jordan Staal trade, Brian Dumoulin had a strong season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and got into six games with Pittsburgh. He has good size, which he could use more, but can move the puck and handle big minutes in the AHL. Could be time for a longer look at the next level. Drafted in the second round last summer, Tristan Jarry backstopped Edmonton to the Memorial Cup, handling a heavy workload (84 games between regular season and playoffs). Hes a 19-year-old goaltender, so its going to take some time before hes ready to challenge for a spot. Picked in the second round in 2011, Scott Harrington had a solid first pro campaign and projects to be a shutdown defender when he reaches Pittsburgh. That day may not be too far down the road. Taken in the third round in 2012, Matt Murray had an excellent season with Saulte Ste. Marie of the OHL, an indication that perhaps hes starting to reach his potential. The 6-foot-5 tender needs to fill out and will have time in the AHL to further develop his game. Of course, having Jarry in the organization too ought to ensure that Murray isnt complacent as he climbs the ladder. Signed as a free agent out of Nebraska-Omaha, Jayson Megna split last season between the AHL and NHL, putting up nine pints (5 G, 4 A) in 36 games with Pittsburgh. He could have a chance to compete for a depth role next season. A sixth-round pick in 2011, Josh Archibald had 79 points in 76 games over his last two collegiate seasons and joined Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at seasons end. Hes small, but will get the chance to show that he can use his speed to create scoring opportunities as a pro. Two-way centre Oskar Sundqvist was a third-round pick in 2012 and played in the Swedish Hockey League for league champs Skelleftea last season. See how he adjusts to North America and go from there. There are a few blueliners ahead of Philip Samuelsson on the Penguins organizational depth chart, but the 2009 second-rounder has made steady progress, getting into five games with Pittsburgh last season. A smallish playmaker, Jake Guentzel was a third-round pick last summer and then had a strong freshman season at Nebraska-Omaha (same school as Megna and Archibald). With a few years to fill out and get stronger, hell have a chance to be a solid pro. It wasnt the easiest first pro season for Anton Zlobin, a sixth-round pick in 2012, who spent some time in the ECHL (scoring 11 points in 10 games), but he had 10 points in his last 17 regular season games, then 10 points in 15 playoff games. If he continues on that path next season, his production will get him noticed. The Yankees lost their second straight after a three-game winning streak and fell 2 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay for the ALs second wild-card spot. The Rays play at Minnesota on Saturday night. "You have to find a way to get it done is the bottom line," New York manager Joe Girardi said of facing Lester. "Hes been throwing the ball well. He threw it well against us last time and he did it again today, but youve still got to find a way." Boston entered the day with an 8 1/2-game lead over second-place Tampa Bay. The Red Sox (91-59) improved to a season-high 32 games over .500, their best mark since the final day of their World Series championship season in 2004. Franklin Morales worked a perfect ninth. For the second time in week, Boston goes for a sweepp against New York. Ken Boyer Jersey. Last weekend, the Red Sox won the initial three of a four-game set at Yankee Stadium but lost the finale. The Red Sox built a 5-1 lead against CC Sabathia (13-13) after five innings. "I felt like I was behind everybody and got into some tough counts," Sabathia said. "With a team like they have, when you get behind and in a hitters count, youre going to give up some hard-hit balls." Will Middlebrooks run-scoring grounder gave Boston a 1-0 edge in the second. Napoli singled before moving up on a walk and sacrifice. In the third, David Ortiz had an RBI double and Gomes added a run-scoring single. Sabathia then fanned the next two hitters with runners on first and third. Lester breezed through the first nine batters, holding the Yankees hitless before Curtis Granderson tripled off the centre field wall leading off the fourth. He scored on Robinson Canos bouncer to first to make it 3-1. But Victorino had a two-out RBI single in the bottom half. Sabathia went six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, walking four and striking out five. Hes 4-6 with a 6.48 ERA in his last three seasons against the Red Sox. Daniel Navas sacrifice fly increased it to it 5-1. NOTES: Yankees OF Alfonso Soriano was a late scratch with a sprained right thumb and is listed as day to day. He was scheduled to bat cleanup, so Alex Rodriguez was dropped from second to fourth and Vernon Wells moved from right field to left. Ichiro Suzuki, who was not scheduled to be in the lineup, was inserted in right and batted eighth. "It was bothering him yesterday, but it got worse today," Girardi said. ... The Yankees activated RHP David Phelps (strained right forearm) from the 60-day DL and moved Derek Jeter (sore left ankle) to the 60-day DL before the game. "Probably a one-inning guy, not much longer," Girardi said of Phelps role. "He didnt really get a chance to build up (his arm strength) to be a long guy." ... Farrell said LHP Felix Doubront will throw a side session Sunday, a simulated game Tuesday and "likely in the Toronto series (next weekend) in a starting role." Farrell also said Doubront hasnt been used due to "fatigue." ... Ivan Nova (8-4, 3.17 ERA) goes for the Yankees in the series finale against Clay Buchholz (10-0, 1.61 ERA) on Sunday night. Buchholz will be making his second start since coming off the DL. He was out since early June with a strained neck. ... Boston improved to 12-6 against New York. Guelph, ON (SportsNetwork. Max Unger Saints Jersey .com) - Despite having a losing record, the Montreal Alouettes find themselves in the 101st Grey Cup Playoffs, pitted against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Division Semifinal at Alumni Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Catch the action on TSN starting at noon et/9am pt. This time last year, the Alouettes were the cream of the crop in the division, sporting an 11-7 mark, but plenty has happened to Montreal in 2013 to keep the squad from reprising their role as the best in the East. In addition to firing first-year head coach Dan Hawkins after only a few weeks, the Als also lost the services of one of the greatest quarterbacks in league history in Anthony Calvillo. There were several other injuries and hurdles to overcome in order for Montreal to get at least this far, not the least of which was winning four of the last six games on the schedule. Granted, the team did benefit from Winnipeg being simply awful in its own division, as well as Edmonton fumbling along over in the West. In 2012, this division had only two representatives in Montreal and Toronto, the latter being the eventual champion, with both the Blue Bombers and Tiger- Cats sitting at home with 6-12 records. But this time around Hamilton, which was a dismal 1-8 on the road a year ago, returned to respectability with four wins in nine away outings and an overall mark of 10-8. However, the start to the new campaign was not entirely encouraging, as the Cats won just one of five games coming out of the gate. A three-game win streak brought the group back around, as did four wins in the last five games of the regular season While he may not have been around to finish every game for the Tiger-Cats this season, the good news for the offense is that Henry Burris was one of only two quarterbacks in the league to start all 19 games for their respective clubs, and the other (Mike Reilly) failed to make the Edmonton Eskimos very good. Burris came up just 73 passing yards short of 5,000 on the season as he led the CFL in that category. He managed to complete 65.8 percent of his attempts and tie for the second-most aerial majors with 24, but at the same time he was guilty of throwing the most interceptions (19), something the Montreal defense will have to focus on. As luck would have it, the Alouettes have one of the top pass defenders in the league this year in Geoff Tisdale who led the CFL in interceptions with seven, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Not that far behind Tisdale was Jerald Brown who had five picks of his own. Montreal matched Saskatchewan for the most interceptions with 24 this year, yet the Als still ended up with a minus-three in turnover margin. Unlike the Cats who had the luxury of fielding the same signal caller one week to the next, Montreal had a total of four different starters at the position, the most in the league. As it stands, it appears as though the job has been handed over to former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith who has been the starter in each of the last three outings. The Ohio State product has had marginal success lately with nine passing touchdowns and a pair of majors on the ground, but at the same time he has tossed five INTs and averaged a mere 2.5 yards per rushing attempt. While Hamilton was watching from afar last season, Montreal hosted the Argonauts in the division finals and ended up on the wrong side of a 27-20 decision, allowing Toronto to move on to the Grey Cup where it shocked Calgary, 35-22, at Rogers Centre. These teams faced each other a total of three times during the regular season, with Hamilton posting two victories, including a narrow 27-24 final in the most recent encounter two weeks ago at home. The winner this time around will be back in action next weekend, clashing with Toronto for the right to compete in the championship game against a representative from the West Division on Nov. 24 at Mosaic Stadium in Regina. From a historical standpoint, both of these teams have appeared in the Grey Cup title tilt a total of 18 times, with Hamilton taking the honors on eight occasions and Montreal raising the trophy seven times. The Als last won it all in 2010 with a 21-18 triumph over Saskatchewan, the teams second straight championship and the third appearance in as many years in the final game. Willie Snead Saints Jersey .5 million contract. Cammalleri spent the past two-and-a-half seasons with the Calgary Flames with prior stints in Los Angeles and Montreal. PITTSBURGH, Pa. Jurrell Casey Jersey . - Joe Durant is trying desperately to hold onto his old job on the PGA Tour. If it doesnt work out, his new gig is looking more promising all the time. The Champions Tour rookie shot a 6-under 64 on Thursday in the first round of the Senior Players Championship, making seven birdies against one bogey to join David Frost and Doug Garwood atop the leaderboard at defenceless Fox Chapel. Bernhard Langer, Corey Pavin, Larry Mize, Steve Pate, Olin Browne, Bart Bryant, Peter Fowler and Wes Short Jr. shot 65. Colin Montgomerie, the Senior PGA winner last month, opened with a 5-under 30 on the front nine before fading to a 69. The 50-year-old Durant, a four-time winner on the main tour, is trying to split time between both circuits this summer. The pressure to earn enough money while making limited PGA Tour starts has been draining. In a way, the 50-and-over tour is allowing him to recharge. "Im trying so hard to make magic happen in one week (on the PGA Tour) and its just not working out very well," Durant said. Durant tied for 31st last week in Connecticut in the PGA Tours Travelers Championship, a finish he believes should have been higher had he not slogged through the second and third rounds. "It easily could have been a top-10 week if I had just managed my game a little better Friday and Saturday," Durant said. There were no such issues Thursday. Durant holed out from the greenside bunker on the par-3 third, kick-starting his round. He ended it with a sliding left-to-right birdie putt on the par-5 18th for his 64, matching his best round since joining the Champions Tour after turning 50 in April. "It all comes down to making putts," Durant said. "If you make putts, the game is real easy. If youre burning edges, its not that easy." Frost and Garwood quickly joined Durant atop the leaderboard. Frustrated after a middling 39th-place finish at the Encompass Championship last week in Illinois, Frost ditched the shafts on his irons for the first time in four years, trading them in for something that offered a little more forgiveness. The move paid off with a near flawless round in which he missed only one fairway and three greens. "I almost want to kick myself for not (switching shafts) earlier," Frost said. Garwood, a two-time All-American during his college career at Fresno State, has finally found a home on the Champions Tour after spending most of his adult life on pro golfs fringe. He never played in a PGA Tour event and sold insurance among other things before trying to give the 50-and-over circuit a shot last spring. After some initial struggles, it is paying off handsomely. Garwood lost a playoff four weeks ago in the Principal Charity Classic and backed it up with a runner-up finish last weekend. Garwoods round included three straight birdies on Nos. 12-14, including a 35-footer on the par-4 14th. His birdie attempt on the 18th stopped one roll short of giving him the lead. Being near the lead is becoming familiar territory for Garwood, though he has done his best to downplay his steady rise. "Ive always believed the lower the expectation, the easier it is to meet," he said, laughing. "Theres enough pressure just being out there with all the hoopla. So I just go out and try to shoot my best ... trying to shoot 64, it just kind of happens." Defending champion Kenny Perry, looking for his fourth major title in the last year, failed to take advantage of the prime scoring conditions. Playing his eighth tournament in nine weeks, Perry shot an even-par 70. Perrys score was actually one better than the 71 he posted in the opening round last year. Perry responded last June by shooting a combined 20 under over the final 54 holes to edge Fred Couples and Duffy Waldorf for the first major pro title of his lengthy career. The 53-year-old Kentuckian, the Tradition winner last month in the first senior major of the year, doubted Fox Chapel would be as generous this time around, but with wide open fairways and damp greens, it wasnt a fair fight. More than half the 81 players finished at even par or better. "Its going to take a lot of birdies this week with the conditions as they are right now," Durant said. "Youve just got to keep the hammer down." Brian Schwenke Jersey . At 11:06 of the first period, Neal struck Marchand with his knee when Marchand was down on the ice. Marchand remained in the game. Meram opened the scoring for the Crew (9-9-9) in the 52nd minute, curling a strike around goalkeeper Dan Kennedy into the bottom-right corner. He scored again 7 minutes later after he intercepted a careless cross in the middle of the Chivas USA (6-15-6) backfield. From there, Meram took it himself annd scored from just outside the box. Scott Cullen has some post-Olympic notes on Martin St. Rougned Odor Jersey . Louis trade rumours, Team Canada in 2018 as well as NHL Olympic participation in Pyeongchang, South Korea (and beyond). 1. The Internet was abuzz, following the Olympics, about the possibility of the Tampa Bay Lightning dealing leading scorer Martin St. Louis to New York for Rangers captain Ryan Callahan. This was my initital reaction. That isnt to say that the Lightning might not deal St. Louis because, if hes really unhappy after the whole Olympic team selection fiasco, then that might be the impetus for movement. However, the Lightning are in third place in the Eastern Conference, which means they arent just going to give him away, and there are several issues at play with regards to St. Louis future with the team. First, since St. Louis has a no-movement clause, the Lightning are at his mercy should they decide to trade him. If St. Louis says that his preferred destination is the Rangers, because he lives in nearby Connecticut, then you can expect the Rangers to avoid paying fair market value, instead paying closer to monopolistic value, not unlike the Pittsburgh Penguins offered to the Calgary Flames for Jarome Iginla last season. Additionally, if the Lightning are going to shop St. Louis, wouldnt it make much more sense to do it in the offseason, when they might be able to get a better quality return, or perhaps open the trade talks to more than one team (its not like Manhattan is the only NHL location relatively close to Connecticut)? Whatever the deal ends up being, there is little reason for the Lightning to deal St. Louis, straight-up, for an inferior winger with an expiring contract. Maybe Callahan plus works, but it would definitely depend on the plus. The reigning scoring champion cant just be peddled out of town at a cut-rate price if a franchise is going to be seen as legitimate. Considering how torn Lightning GM Steve Yzerman must have been throughout this process, its no wonder that hes had enough as Team Canada GM after back-to-back Olympic gold medals. 2. The 2014 Olympics were barely finished before Mike Johnson was tasked with projecting Team Canada for 2018. Obviously, this requires a lot of projection, going four years ahead of time, but here are some 2014 players that are likely due to be replaced because of age: Roberto Luongo, Mike Smith, Chris Kunitz, Patrick Sharp, Martin St. Louis, Jay Bouwmeester, Dan Hamhuis, Patrick Marleau, Rick Nash and Jeff Carter, all of whom are 29 or older this season. There could easily be more turnover, but filling those 8-10 spots seems a reasonable starting point. In net, I would add Jonathan Bernier (who I would have taken in 2014) to Carey Price. As the number three goaltender, I lean to a younger player like Braden Holtby, even if hes going through some tough times this season. On the blueline, with the right side staying the same -- Drew Doughty, Shea Weber, Alex Pietrangelo, P.K. Subban, along with Duncan Keith and Marc-Edouard Vlasic on the left -- that leaves room for a couple of new faces. Today, Ill go with Ryan Murray and Travis Hamonic ahead of Morgan Rielly and Brenden Dillon. Up front, after bringing back Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, John Tavares, Jamie Benn, Matt Duchene and Patrice Bergeron, I add Steven Stamkos, Tyler Seguin, Taylor Hall, Claude Giroux, Logan Couture and Nathan MacKinnon to get to 14 forwards. It pains me to pass over Blue Jackets C Ryan Johansen, but hes one that I find intriguing. The debate will surely rage, but maybe we can put it aside for at least three years before getting caught up in it too much. 3. One other twist, as it pertains to participation in the Olympics, and was mentioned by Gord Miller, is that the NHL could go with the under-23 model that soccer uses in the Summer Olympics. The sticking point, to me, in this plan is that teams arent going to want to continue playing their schedule without some of these top-calibre players. Here are some of the best 22-and-under players in the NHL this season. Can we really expect a team to go forward and play games for a couple of weeks without players of that calibre? Imagine the Colorado Avalanche without Ryan OReilly, Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog, or the Winnipeg Jets minus Evander Kane, Mark Scheifele and Jacob Trouba. Those would be devastating to those particular teams. The other tweak to the option is that NHL teams could decide which players can go which, given previous experience with the World Junior tournament, would pretty much eliminate the participation of NHL players, which begs the question: why impose an age limit at all if NHLers wont be participating? By most accounts, the players always seem in favour of the experience. Those that are playing enjoy it and those that dont enjoy getting some time off during the season. As it stands now, NHL owners and executives have taken the position that they arent so interested in participating in the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea and that could be their legitimate stance, especially after some teams had players suffer injuries while playing in Sochi. At the same time, its also the kind of position that a negotiator would take if they wanted to extract more favourable compensation from the International Olympic Committee. Theres no leverage if you state that youre unequivocally in love with the current relationship. Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs, who has hardly been regarded as being tight with the players, told the New York Times, "I know the importance of competing in the Olympics to many of our players — they are our partners and if it is important to them it should be important to us." That doesnt sound like the door on NHL Olympic participation has been shut altogether. At least not yet. Finally playing at Barclays Center more than a week after returning to the NBA as the leagues first openly gay player, Collins checked in to a standing ovation from a sellout crowd of 17,732 that included former commissioner David Stern with 2:41 remaining. He committed a foul five seconds later, missed his only shot, grabbed a rebound and had one of the Nets NBA season high-tying 19 steals in their third straight victory. "It was cool. It was a lot of fun to go into the game," Collins said. "The most important thing was that we got the win. Chicagos been playing really well as of late and for us to come out and really be -- I think we played more physical than they did tonight." His first home game wont be his last, because the Nets plan to sign Collins to a second 10-day contract, a person with knowledge of the situation said. Collins signed his original deal on Feb. 23 and it expires Tuesday. The Nets then will re-sign him for another 10 days on Wednesday, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the plans havent been made public. After that expires, the Nets would have to sign him for the rest of the season if they wanted to keep him. Collins sat at the end of the bench for most of the game while the Nets built a series of comfortable leads, making the only intrigue down the stretch whether the 12-year veteran would get in during his first home appearance for the Nets since Jan. 29, 2008, against Milwaukee in East Rutherford, N.J. A chant of "Jason Collins! Jason Collins!" broke out while Deron Williams was shooting a free throw with the Nets leading 90-73 with 3:27 remaining. Fans finally got their wish less than a minute later -- though not because coach Jason Kidd was listening to them. "No, the game was out of hand, so I wanted to get those guys some rest," Kidd said. Joey Gallo Authentic Jersey. "D-Will was shooting free throws. Couldnt put Twin in at that time, so I told him after the free throws that he would come in." Collins said before the game that he wasnt aware of any second contract, leaving those details up to his agent. Kidd said those discussions were between management and Collins agent, but said his former teammate has been "great, on and off the court." "Twin is a good friend of mine and hes a basketball player, but hes a great person and so thats why we wanted him on this team and we felt he could help us win," Kidd said, referring to Collins by the nickname he had during his original stint with the Nets from 2001-08. The Nets still practice in New Jersey even after moving to Brooklyn before last season, so thats where Collins was Sunday after the Nets got back from their road trip that ended Saturday night in Milwaukee. He spent part of the day shopping at Costco, wisely stocking up since hell be sticking around. "Its kind of funny. Yesterday on my day off Im driving around Jersey on Route 17 and bringing back a lot of memories from when I was here before," Collins said. Hes much more famous now after revealing he was gay in a Sports Illustrated article last April. He had been out of the NBA from then until signing with the Nets. Collins said he had plenty of ticket requests from family and friends for Mondays game, and also saw a number of familiar faces from the old days. The pregame news conference and the overall media attention are new, and Collins believes it wont last, but understands that for now his sexuality makes him a big story. "Over time it will go down, but as far as doing interviews and talking about it, Im getting comfortable with the microphone or the camera on me," he said. Hes more comfortable on the court, even in the limited minutes he gets. Finally finished with his lengthy list of pregame obligations, he was looking forward to helping the Nets in whatever way he could. "Now that thats all settled, Ill go out there and just try to focus as much as I can on the game," Collins said. Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork. Mathias Kiwanuka Giants Jersey .com) - P.A. Parenteau scored the deciding goal of the shootout to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. Buffalos Brian Gionta and the Canadiens Alex Galchenyuk were both successful in the first round of the shootout. Parenteau, the third shooter for Montreal, skated up the middle, fooled Michal Neuvirth with a head fake and ended the game with a quick wrister into the top of the net. Parenteau also lit the lamp in regulation and Dustin Tokarski made 31 saves for Montreal, which snapped a three-game skid. Drew Stafford provided Buffalos lone offense and Neuvirth made 31 saves in defeat. Parenteau broke the scoreless deadlock 19 seconds into the third after depositing the rebound of P.K. Subbans blast from the point into the net. Stafford answered back for Buffalo less than three minutes later on the power play by tipping in Tyler Myers pass from the top of the crease. Neuvirth went post to post to make an outstanding toe save on Max Pacioretty with under two minutes left in overtime and Tokarski stuck out his blocker to stop Zemgus Girgensons at the buzzer to send the game to a shootout. Montreal had two power plays in the first, but were unable to find the back of the net. Midway through the second, Tokarski denied Chris Stewart of a tip-in opportunity from the side of the net with a quick toe save to keep the game scoreless. CALGARY -- After a 7-0 shellacking the night before in Edmonton, Columbus coach Todd Richards challenged his team to do better. Jermaine Kearse Seahawks Jersey . It worked. Defenceman Nikita Nikitin scored his first goal of the season 2:25 into overtime Wednesday night to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames. "As a coach, you go in and challenge your group," said Richards. "There were some questions I had coming out of the Edmonton game. To me, they responded the right way." With a delayed penalty coming to the Flames forward Jiri Hudler for goaltender interference, Columbus carried the puck back up ice and poured on the pressure as Sergei Bobrovsky skated to the bench for an extra skater. After Artem Anisimov was stopped by Calgary goalie Reto Berra, the puck came to David Savard, who had a shot blocked by Mikael Backlund. However, the puck caromed out to Nikitin who had an empty net with Berra down and out. "Nikita, as far as the way he played, it might have been his best game," said Richards, who was pleased with the entire teams performance. "They came out and they played hard. Ran out of gas a little bit towards the end. I thought we battled. We got the win. They way they are playing out on the ice, I think the attitude is real positive." After the game-winning goal went in, the Flames first-year goaltender repeatedly pounded his glove into the ice. "It was great how we came back, but at the end it was bad luck," said Berra, who had 16 saves in falling to 2-4-2. Nick Foligno also scored for Columbus (8-11-3). The Blue Jackets are 2-1-0 with two stops left on a five-game road trip. They play in Vancouver on Friday. "We just had too many mental lapses last night and it cost us," said Blue Jackets centre Ryan Johansen. "Its nice to be able to forget about that now. Coming in here tonight and doing all those little things right in our defensive zone." Joe Colborne scored the lone goal for Calgary (7-11-4). Coming off an emotional 5-4 shootout victory in Winnipeg on Monday night, the Flames have lost three straight at home and are winless in their last six (0-5-1) at the Scotiabank Saddledome. "I dont think it was the most exciting game, especially when they scored early. I think they would have been happy to go home with a 1-0 road win ...," said Flames coach Bob Hartley. "The bottom line is its pretty tough to win when you only have one line going. Matt Stajans line was by far our best line and we didnt get enough from the other three." Besides the trio of Stajan, Michael Cammalleri and Lee Stempniak, the other notable highlight for the Flames was Berras spectacular first period save off Jack Johnson. Johnson looked like he had all sorts of open net to shoot at but Berra came across and, using his entire six-foot-four frame, stretched out and spectacularly kicked the puck out of the air like a bicycle kick in soccer. Before the game had ended, the video of it was already up on the NHLs website with the headline "Save of the year?" "I was too far out. I thought (Johansen) was going to shoot, then he passed it," Berra said. "So I was way too late and I had nothing else that I could do. I just tried to bring something from my body there and it hits me right on my skate. That was for sure luck, too." Berra made his eighth start in his last nine games for the Flames. He made 16 stops to fall to 2-5-1. Columbus opened the scoring shortly after when Folignos slapshot deflected off the leg of Flames defenceman TJ Brodie, the sudden change in direction sending it into the top corner behind Berra. The game remained that way until Calgary tied the game 3:28 into the third period when Colborne got behind Johnson and on a breakaway tucked a backhand over the shoulder of Bobrovsky. It was the only shot that got past Bobrovsky of the 24 he faced on the night. "To have have a chance to play right away, to reset, its good," said Bobrovsky, who was pulled against Edmonton after the fourth goal. "You dont think about the game before. It was a bad game. You have a chance to win and you get that good feeling again." After winning the Vezina Trophy last year as the NHLs best goalie, Bobrovsky has not had nearly the same success this season with a 7-9-2 record. Notes: The Blue Jackets were without Brandon Dubinsky, who suffered a bruised foot against Edmonton. Recently recalled Jack Skille took his spot ... Columbus LW Matt Calvert (lower body) is back practising and he could return Friday. Hes missed 19 games ... Bobrovsky has given up four-or-more goals six times this season. That happened only five times all of last year ... Calgary is 6-3-4 in one-goal games. Kam Chancellor Seahawks Jersey . Despite having just led Juventus to the Italian league title as the teams top scorer, Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella ignored pleas from Tevez passionate fan base in Argentina. Sabella has never called up the hard-working striker since taking charge of the national team in 2011. Instead hes put his faith in Ezequiel Lavezzi and Rodrigo Palacio as substitutes for star attackers Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero. All were included in Sabellas initial 30-player squad, which will be reduced to a final 23 by a FIFA deadline of June 2. The 30-year-old Tevez has scored 19 goals in the Italian Serie A this season. "I am sorry I had to leave out good players," Sabella said, without mentioning names. He also excluded veteran midfielder Esteban Cambiasso of Inter Milan but included Manchester Citys Martin Demichelis, who hasnt played for the national team for two years. While Argentinas attack is among the worlds strongest, the team looks weaker at the back. Sergio Romero remains Sabellas first-choice goalkeeper even though hes not a regular starter for French club Monaco. They can thank the Tennessee Titans for helping them finally get that first victory this season. Owner Shad Khan gave first-year coach Gus Bradley a game ball, and the coach made sure both his boss and general manager David Caldwell each got one, too, after the Jaguars held off the Titans 29-27 Sunday. All the Jaguars will be receiving a game ball to remember this very big win. "What Im excited about is that we improved in many areas," Bradley said. "On my call sheet I was writing down things that were really good that were happening during the game. They just kept piling up. I thought, this is how it feels." Maurice Jones-Drew and Jordan Todman each ran for a touchdown as the Jaguars left Tampa Bay at 0-8 as the only winless team left. The Buccaneers host Miami on Monday night. The Jaguars (1- scored the most points in a game this season. They never trailed and forced four turnovers they turned into 17 points. "Its definitely a great feeling," Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne. "Hopefully we can build on this. We cant become complacent and say we got our first win ... weve still got to improve on what weve done today and get better individually." The Titans scored twice in the final 4:15, the last on a 14-yard TD pass by Ryan Fitzpatrick to Delanie Walker with 40 seconds left. But Johnathan Cyprien recovered the onside kick to seal the victory. On a day the Titans (4-5) held a moment of silence for late owner Bud Adams, they got caught looking ahead to Thursday nights AFC South game with division leader Indianapolis. The Titans also lost Jake Locker to an injured right foot that had him on crutches and in a walking boot in the second half. The Titans were coming off an emotional win over former coach Jeff Fisher in St. Louis, and they looked flat from the start -- when even Adams family was late to the stadium and a news conference introducing the owners was scratched before kickoff. "We had a lot of things happen today that should never happen to us in any game," coach Mike Munchak said. The Jaguars took advantage despite being outgained 362-214 in total offence. Henne threw for 180 yards. Outscored 70-15 in the first quarter of the first eight games combined, the Jaaguars jumped to a 13-0 lead with Paul Posluszny stripping Chris Johnson of his first fumble this season on Tennessees first offensive play, and Dwayne Gratz intercepting a Locker pass. Jon Beason Giants Jersey. The first turnover set up Jones-Drew for three straight carries capped by a 6-yard TD run. Josh Scobee kicked his second field goal, a 44-yarder, after the interception, giving the Jaguars their biggest lead in any game this season, 13-0 early in the second quarter. The Jaguars could have had a bigger lead if not for a shotgun snap bouncing off receiver Ace Sanders as he ran in motion. Not even Munchak seemed ready. The Titans coach wanted to challenge a 22-yard sideline catch by Cecil Shorts III, but threw the flag as the Jaguars snapped the ball. Munchak said later he was waiting for a better replay before deciding to challenge. Locker hurt his right foot in the second quarter at the end of an option keeper. He was so hobbled he couldnt connect with Johnson on a handoff on the next play, and the Jaguars recovered with 6:22 left. Locker was on crutches after the game and said he will have more tests Monday. "I was tired of having to come off the field because I was hurt," Locker said. Fitzpatrick replaced Locker, and he threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a 4-yard TD with 4:15 left trying to rally the Titans. But after the Titans forced the Jaguars to go three and out, Fitzpatrick was sacked by cornerback Will Blackmon, who stripped him of the ball and ran it back 21 yards for a 29-20 lead. The Jaguars also held the Titans to a pair of field goals by Rob Bironas in the second half. Bryan Anger pinned the Titans at their 1 with a 42-yard punt, and the Jaguars got a safety when rookie right guard Chance Warmack was called for holding SenDerrick Marks in the end zone. That safety with 7:44 left was the winning margin. "Its something we can build off of," Marks said. NOTES: The Jaguars now have won four of the past six in this series. ... ST. Cody Kessler Browns Jersey . LOUIS -- Almost always, Mike Matheny keeps his cool. Thats what you might notice at first about Tony La Russas successor as St. Louis Cardinals manager, the inner fire without the bombast. Its what you see right now in the glare of October, when the moves pay off big time or fail miserably, and are endlessly dissected either way. Theres a difference in style, but winning is a given. La Russa managed 2,728 regular-season wins in 33 seasons and trails only Connie Mack and John McGraw. He became the first manager to retire a winner after guiding a heavy underdog to the 2011 title, and is sure the Cardinals got the right guy. "Im in no position to compare," La Russa said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I just know that he was always an impressive leader type. "I definitely know he has the ability. I think hes already made his mark." Make no mistake, theres plenty of fire. In Game 4, Matheny took umpires to task over perceived shortcomings. Though every question gets a measured response, sometimes after tough losses the microphone picks up the sound of fingers impatiently tapping away on the lectern. The manager declined to take it easy on Kolten Wong after the rookie was cut down in Game 4 for the first game-ending pickoff in World Series history, pointing out he knew about Koji Ueharas move. "He was reminded once he got on base, and also he was reminded that run didnt mean much, be careful, shorten up," Matheny said. Mathenys playing career as a light-hitting, strong fielding catcher peaked when he played for La Russa and won four Gold Gloves in five seasons. His steady field leadership made an impression, and his resume jumped to the top of the pile for St. Louis without a single game of managing experience. Players climbed aboard right away. Pitcher Adam Wainwright credits not just La Russa, but also 90-year-old Hall of Famer Red Schoendienst, who managed the Cardinals to a World Series victory over the Red Sox in 1967 and remains active as a special assistant to general manager John Mozeliak. "The perfect torch there," Wainwright said from the podium earlier in the post-season. "A guy who was a great leader and a great motivator of men, and a guy whos learned from the best in my opinion." The Cardinals were expected to fade a bit last year with a rookie manager who didnt have Albert Pujols big bat for the lineup. They took advantage of the second NL wild card and rallied on the road to knock off the Braves and Nationals before running out of gas in the NL championship series when they squandered a 3-1 lead against the Giants. Matheny is part of a new breed of manager, a group including Boston counterpart John Farrell, Kirk Gibson in Arizona and White Sox manager Robin Ventura, that didnt require minor league trial and error seasoning. Last fall, San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy thought the Cardinals had the same fire and added, "I wish I could tell you theres a difference." "If you played the game for as long as he did, you know how the game is going to be run," St. Louis slugger Carlos Beltran said. "You know the players dictate how the game goes and as manager you know youre going to have two or three opportunities to make a change. "But there are a lot of things you have to do to put your team in position." In Year 2, Matheny has gotten the most out of a roster that by necessity has leaned heavily on rookies. St. Louis is close to making it two titles in three seasons with not just different managers but vastly different casts, too. Rookies combined for a major league-high 36 wins and have provided five more in the post-season, four by Michael Wacha. All the high leverage spots in the bullpen are manned by rookies. Matheny is probably more of a players manager than La Russa, but both can be fiercely loyal. The Cardinals are carrying Edward Mujica, who had 35 saves before fading badly in September and losing the closer job to rookie Trevor Rosenthal, perhaps as a reward for what hes done. Rookie Shelby Miller also seems to be around because of his role in the season-long success. The 15-game winner was in the rotation from the start and the team is giving him the quasi-Stephen Strasburg treatment, using him for just one inning entering Game 5. Matheny came under fire for pitching decisions in Game 4 of the World Series, and seemed to arrive for Game 5 with a clean slate. "La Russa is a Hall of Fame manager, and I think a lot of us wanted Mike," third baseman David Freese said. "There were a ton of us who were friends with Mike and we knew what type of guy he was." "Hes extremely close to his family and I think were his second family." Corey Coleman Browns Jersey . OTTAWA -- Canadian figure skater Kevin Reynolds withdrew from the Cup of China figure skating competition Wednesday due to equipment issues. Darryl Sharpton Bears Jersey . He has been struggling with skate problems since the start of the season. Reynolds has been unable to get the boots to fit properly and it has resulted in missed training time, Skate Canada said in a release. The 23-year-old native of North Vancouver, B.C., was the lone Canadian entry at the Nov. 1-3 ISU Grand Prix event in Beijing. Reynolds is coming off a breakout season. He won the Four Continents event in Japan and was fifth at the 2013 world championships. Marquess Wilson Bears Jersey . Yes, Im writing to defend a player that is on pace for a 59-goal season, when the second-best goal-scorer in the NHL this season, Torontos Phil Kessel, is on pace for 43. Naturally, I didnt think that Ovechkin would be a player that needed much defending, but hes taken some hits lately. Im going to largely ignore his contributions on the power play because its not in any dispute that Ovechkin is great with the man advantage and can make a difference even when he doesnt score. Foster went undrafted out of Tennessee before signing as a free agent with the Texans and eventually developing into one of the NFLs best running backs. On Sunday when Foster was out with a groin injury, it was Blues chance to shine. The former LSU back took advantage of the opportunity, carrying a franchise-record 36 times and tying Houstons single-game rookie rushing record with 156 yards. He didnt allow himself to soak in the moment during the win over the Browns. He was too busy worrying about the next carry.I never during the game sat down and relaxed like: Wow, Im doing good, he said. Just keep your foot on the pedal. I knew I was running the ball hard and (I said) just keep doing what youre doing and running the ball hard.It was a culmination of years of hard work for Blue, who was likely headed for a higher draft position before tearing his ACL in the third week of the 2012 season. He spent months recovering and said he didnt really feel like himself again until midway through his senior season. It was very difficult. There are a lot of obstacles to overcome, Blue said. Youve got to get your confidence back. Youve got to train harder. Youre behind everybody, so really youre coming from the back of the line to get back to where you were. Sam Acho Bears Jersey. When he was drafted by the Texans, Blue was determined to crack the 53-man roster and decided hed worry about everything else after that. He developed an immediate bond with Foster, watching him intently on the practice field and asking him for pointers off of it.He said the No. 1 thing Foster tried to drill into his head was the importance of being patient. When you do get carries you want to try to impress people so youre not really running with patience, Blue said. Youre just trying to get it done and make that big run to wow the coaches. It took a while, but Blue finally understood why Foster harped on that singular point. As the season went on, I kind of started to understand what Arian was saying, he said. You cant force it. Just be patient and that long ones going to come.Foster is listed as day to day this week, but even if he returns on Sunday, coach Bill OBrien said theyll use Blue, too. OBrien was asked if Blues performance on Sunday gave him confidence in the young running back. He insisted that he didnt need that game to feel that way about him.I have a lot of confidence in Alfred. I really do, OBrien said. If I didnt have confidence in Alfred, I wouldnt have played him against Cleveland. I would have played (Jonathan) Grimes more. And it isnt just OBrien who has noticed Blues work this season. Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis raved about him as the Bengals prepare to meet Houston on Sunday. He really did a great job of making a lot of yardage after contact last week, Lewis said. Hes an impressive player. Obviously going through the draft process ... we had evaluations of guys and thought he was a talented player.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Soccer Jerseys China ' ' '

KAMLOOPS, B. Custom Bears Jersey .C. -- It was a game neither skip wanted to play, but a series of missed shots by Quebec gift-wrapped the bronze-medal match for Manitoba Sunday at the Canadian mens curling championship. Manitobas Jeff Stoughton won 9-5 in nine ends after scoring two in the first and stealing two in the second on a missed Quebec runback at the Tim Hortons Brier. He stole another in the third on a gentle Quebec hit that overcurled and two more in the fourth on Jean-Michel Menards tap-back attempt that barely brushed Manitobas stones. It put Manitoba up 7-0 going into five. Menard drew for one finally in five and raised his arm in a good-natured salute to the applause of the half-filled arena. He let alternate Pierre Charette skip eight and he stole two to keep the game going when Stoughton missed a hit for one. Manitoba also put alternate Garth Smith in at lead. Neither skip was up for the game and both suggested it shouldnt even be part of the Brier. "I was personally totally mentally exhausted," said Menard. "Playing two back-to-back games, having only five hours sleep because of the time change . . .We werent really focused, expecially me, and it cost us early in a few ends." Stoughton minimized the win and said they werent really focused either. "We got lucky in the first end. If he makes his shot they probably steal two and they win the game," he said. "Its a disappointing game to play because youre not going to win the Brier. Its a game that Quebec and Manitoba didnt want to play. Its not a game that anyone wants to play." Menard agreed. "Ill try to be nice, but this game shouldnt exist, its useless," he said. Stoughton said the winner of the 3-4 playoff game should decide the bronze medal. That would have seen Quebec take it, since they beat Manitoba to qualify for the semifinal. Menards five-game winning streak overcame his weak 3-4 start at the Brier to get him into fourth spot and the playoffs. He then defeated Stoughton 7-6 Saturday as missed shots allowed Quebec to steal two for a three-point lead in their playoff game. But he lost 9-8 in the semifinal later Saturday to Alberta and Kevin Koe, who plays John Morris and British Columbia Sunday evening for the championship. Stoughton finished in a three-way tie for the lead at the Brier at 9-2 but the way the tiebreaking formula was applied and pushed him out of the 1-2 playoff game, which B.C. took over Alberta. Alshon Jeffery Bears Jersey . The three-year deal was finalized on Monday and fundamentally changes the way Japanese players are acquired by MLB clubs. Bartel, who is from Australia, punted 229 times for 9,904 yards with a 43.2 average in two seasons with the Ticats. Williams, the first overall pick by Saskatchewan in 2010, signed with Hamilton as a free agent a year ago and had one defensive tackle and one special teams tackle in just six games with the Ticats last season.Through three games, it looked like the Vancouver Canucks would cruise through their first-round playoff series, finally exacting some revenge on the Chicago Blackhawks team that had eliminated them from the post-season the past two years. Then something happened: the Blackhawks came storming back to win the next two games by a combined score of 12-2, and all of a sudden were down by only one game. Midway through the second period of Game 3, Canucks forward Raffi Torres caught Blackhawks defencemen Brent Seabrook with a shoulder to the head during a collision behind Chicagos net. Seabrook left the game and has not played since with what is officially being listed as an upper-body injury but is suspected to be a concussion. And while losing Seabrook for the past two games was certainly a blow to Chicagos defence corps, Torres hit may have provided Seabrooks teammates with the spark that has them playing so hot the past two games. Chicago players such as Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews admitted seeing their teammate miss time after a big hit gave them a little extra motivation moving forward against Vancouver. Keith, Seabrooks defence partner, has especially picked up his play. After only a mediocre season for Keiths standards, the 27-year-old has looked like the Norris Trophy winner he was a year ago the last two games, something Torres surely wasnt banking on when he went after Seabrook. While it could also be argued that being down 3-0 in the series is motivation enough to play with the desperation and poise Chicago has shown the last two games, Torres Game 3 hit on Seabrook could end up being seen as a series-changing moment. So heres Daves question to you: "Did the Raffi Torres incident change the Vancouver-Chicago series? If not, what did?" And here arre the answers Dave liked best: "The Canucks were doing just fine with Raffi Torres in the press box. Vladimir Ducasse Bears Jersey. They havent won with Brent Seabrook in the press box. Case closed." - Steve in Glace Bay, NS "Dave Bollands return has had more to do with what Chicago has accomplished than anything Raffi Torres did or the NHL failed to do." - John in North Bay, ON "Never poke a stick into a busy beehive. Raffi Torres awoke the Blackhawks and Vancouver has been stung twice." - Rose in Sherwood Park, AB "Tie Domis hit on Scott Niedermayer changed a Toronto-New Jersey series. Yes, it can happen like that." - Mark in Toronto, ON "The Torres incident is half the reason. Roberto Luongo is the other half." - Tim in Gillam, MB And Daves Reply to All: Dont Blame Raffi When they make the movie of the Vancouver-Chicago series, especially if Chicago wins in the end, the Torres hit on Seabrook will be the whole story. Surely it isnt, but Hollywood wouldnt care. Seabrook would be the injured hero and the inspirational force that compelled his teammates to reverse their fortunes on his behalf, and Torres would be the villain, who was allowed to show up for Game 4 representing Vancouvers evil against Chicagos good. Good would ultimately triumph over evil. Roll the credits. I wish I had a better explanation. I will tell you that, not only did I think Torres should be suspended, I felt Vancouver would be better off if he had missed Game 4. The Canucks played that game as if they were apologizing. For Raffi Torres? For being up 3-0? I dont know, but there has been a different dynamic ever since. Its up to the Canucks to change it, and if they cant, ultimately, its their fault, not Raffi Torres fault. BERLIN -- Unbeaten Bayern Munich defeated visiting Hamburger SV 3-1 for the Bundesligas unofficial title of "autumn champion" on Saturday, while Borussia Dortmund could only draw 2-2 at Hoffenheim. Nick Vannett Seahawks Jersey . Goals from Mario Mandzukic in the 42nd minute and Mario Goetze 10 minutes later put Bayern in a comfortable position before Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga scored with three minutes remaining. Xherdan Shaqiri scored in injury time to ensure Bayern won its 950th Bundesliga game and its last of the year. The side will next appear in the Club World Club semifinals in Morocco. Dortmund came from two goals down at Hoffenheim, but missed a host of chances as it fell 12 points off the pace. Also, Hannover came from three goals down to draw 3-3 with Nuremberg, Augsburg defeated Eintracht Braunschweig 4-1 and Borussia Moenchengladbachs six-game winning streak came to an end in a 0-0 draw at Mainz. "We can live with it," Moenchengladbach coach Lucien Favre said. Wolfsburg defeated Stuttgart 3-1 at home in the late match, the latest Bundesliga game to feature a goal-line incident. With the game still scoreless, Stuttgarts Timo Werner was denied a goal when Robin Knoche cleared off the line. TV replays appeared to show the ball crossing the line but, despite Stuttgarts furious protests, it wasnt given. Wolfsburg went 2-0 up through free kicks from Ricardo Rodriguez and Diego in the 38th and 53rd respectively, four minutes before Werner pulled one back with a powerful volley. Ivan Perisic effectively dashed Stuttgarts hopes in the 78th when he scored at the second attempt after Ulreich saved his first effort. Bayern is the first Bundesliga side to rack up 44 points from its first 16 games, while its unbeaten run of 41 games is a league record. With his eye on the upcoming trip to Morocco, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola opted to leave Franck Ribery and David Alaba on the substitutes bench. Hamburg, which had conceded 20 goals in its previous three league visits to Munich, made the better start before Bayern gradually assumed control. Toni Kroos unlocked the Hamburg defence with a brilliant ball over the top for Rafinha to cross for Mandzukic, who scored with a helpful shove on Jonathan Tah. There was no disputing the quality of Goetzes fourth league goal of the season. The Germany midfielder controlled Thiago Alcantaras pass with his first touch on the volley, then swiveled to dispatch the ball inside the left post with his next. Lasoggas fine strike under the crossbar injected some interest in the closing minutes, before Shaqiri held off a defender and fired inside the near post to remove any doubt. "Now we fly to Morocco to win the last tournament of the year," said Guardiola, who has made the most successful start as a coach in the Bundesliga. Dortmund had a goal ruled out early on for offside in Sinsheim, where Sven Schipplock chipped Dortmund goalkeeper Mitch Langerak to celebrate his Hoffenheim contract extension with the opening goal in the 18th. Roberto Firmino played the final pass in a well-worked counterattack. Hoffenheim was more efficient and Kevin Volland made it 2-0 in the 37th. A mistake from Hoffenheim goalkeeper Jens Grahl, when he dropped a simple corner and Jannik Vestergaard failed to clear, allowed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to reply for Dortmund in the 44th. Lukasz Piszczek equalized in the 67th. Henrikh Mkhitaryan should have scored minutes later, and Grahl deflected Lewandowskis effort onto the post, before Volland missed a great chance to win it at the other end. "In the end a win wouldnt have been undeserved," Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp said. "But we could also have lost." Nuremberg looked set for its first win in the Bundesliga this season when Adam Hlousek scored with a deflected shot in the 30th, Josip Drmic rounded the goalkeeper in the 38th, and Per Nilsson scored with a header three minutes later. But Leonardo Bittencourt pulled one back on the hour, and Mame Biram Diouf scored twice with three minutes remaining as Nurembergs Bundesliga record 16-game run without a win continued. Nurembergs players were particularly aggrieved by Dioufs first goal, which TV replays showed was offside. "The referee decided the game. I cant put it into words," Nuremberg goalkeeper Raphael Schaefer said. "You cant make such a mistake. The referee brought Hannover back into the game with this wrong call." Braunschweig remains rooted to the bottom after the promoted sides 12th defeat of the season. "Our fans patience is now depleted. We have to prepare for stormy times," Braunschweig coach Torsten Lieberknecht said. Thomas Rawls Seahawks Jersey . UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Riding a long winning streak, the powerful Anaheim Ducks had no fear trailing by two goals heading into the third period against the fragile New York Islanders. Ryan Getzlaf scored three goals and the Ducks rallied for their team-record eighth straight victory, beating the Islanders 5-3 Saturday night. "We talked after the second of just continuing to play our game," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "We were very calm about it and knew if we got one quickly, wed have a great chance." Down 3-1, the Ducks scored four times in the third period. The Islanders played a spirited first two periods, taking their lead on two goals by Thomas Vanek and another by Frans Nielsen. But Getzlaf scored his second of the game at 1:10 of the final period and Mathieu Perreault tied it at 10:32. Kyle Palmieri, a native of Montvale, N.J., who scored the overtime winner Friday night against the New Jersey Devils, found himself in front of Evengi Nabokov with a clear shot at 13:44. The 22-year-old forward, who also scored the winning goal when the Ducks beat the Rangers 2-1 at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 4, knocked in his sixth goal of the season. "Those goals feel really, really good," Palmieri said. "We find ways to win and tonight was another example of our patience and skill." Getzlaf completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal. The Ducks won in their first visit to Long Island since a 3-2 loss on Dec. 16, 2010. "We didnt move the puck the way we should have in the third period," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "You cant play the way we played in the third period against a big Stanley Cup-caliber team like this.. Tyler Lockett Seahawks Jersey. It wont work." Vanek finally had the type of game the Islanders envisioned when they acquired him from Buffalo for popular left wing Matt Moulson on Oct. 27. The Austrian right wing opened the scoring at 11:27 of the first, putting a rebound past backup goaltender Frederik Andersen, who made 18 saves to improve to 9-1. After Getzlaf tied the game at 15:10 of the second, Vanek gave the Islanders again with a perfectly placed shot as he sped down the right side, beating Andersen to his stick side at 17:55. The goal was Vaneks ninth since joining the Islanders and his third in two nights. Nielsen made it 3-1 for the Islanders 57 seconds later. "It came down to execution," Capuano said. "We were icing the puck too much and not making plays when we had to in the third period." Anaheim forward Teemu Selanne was a healthy scratch. The 43-year-old Selanne usually doesnt play the second half of back-to-back games. Selanne played Friday night as the Ducks upended the Devils 3-2 in overtime. NOTES: This was the 10th time in 36 games this season the Islanders have lost a third-period lead. ... The Ducks will complete their final Eastern trip of the season at Washington on Monday. ... Forward Dustin Penner and defenceman Hampus Lindholm were healthy scratches for the Ducks, as were Islanders forwards Colin McDonald and Peter Regin, plus defenceman Aaron Ness. ... The amateur from Smiths Falls, Ont., is well aware of the high expectations that come from finishing in the top 10 at a major tournament and emerging as the best young Canadian womens golfer. "I see the pressure and I hear it," Henderson said. "I hear that Im the face of Canadian golf, but Im just trying to improve and trying to get better." Henderson doesnt seem to be buying into the hype that she has created for herself. With Lorie Kane about to turn 50, shes considered the future of the sport in Canada, even with Alena Sharp, Sue Kim, Jennifer Kirby and Rebecca Lee-Bentham already established on the LPGA Tour. She goes into this weeks Canadian Pacific Womens Open at London Hunt and Country Club with all that perspective to go with her experience. Henderson missed the cut the past two years in Edmonton and Vancouver and understands what its all about this time, playing about a seven-hour drive from where she grew up. "Definitely there is pressure," Henderson said. "But Im excited to be able to play for my family and friends and show them what I can do. Theyre out there cheering for me, and I know every shot theyre going to be happy either way." Henderson set her expectation at making the cut and then "hopefully climb up the leader board a little bit." Thats a realistic goal two weeks after she finished second to Kristen Gillman at the U.S. Womens Amateur. But this is a different animal for Henderson as the home-country girl whos blossoming into a star. On her way from the putting green to the driving range on Wednesday, several fans stopped her for autographs, photos and or just to chat. When she tees off just before 8:30 a.m. for Thursdays first round, Henderson will get to focus in on just golf. Her caddy, longtime family friend Bunk Lee, will do his part to keep Henderson focused. "I think Brooke is very good at relaxing herself," Lee said. "Shes been exposed to this enough, and she takes care of most of it. Im just there for reassurance and making sure Im doing my job as the caddy and trying to provide the best environment for her to perform in and it all takes care of itself." Kane recalled being overwhelmed at times during her first appearances at the Canadian Womens Open -- then called the du Maurier Classic -- worried that she couldnt live up to external expectations. The four-time champion on the LPGA Tour said she has no doubt Henderson is prepared for the atmosphere shes about to face and the future shes embarking on. "Brooke, shes hard-working, very dedicated to what she does," Kane said in a phone interview last week. "Brookes career can be what Brrooke wants it to be. Cody Latimer Broncos Jersey. . The skys the limit. Shes got a great head on her shoulders, shes a very level-headed kid." That came across Wednesday in her pre-tournament news conference during which she fielded a handful of questions about her place in history and the hefty weight on her young shoulders. In the short-term -- the next few days -- Henderson expects to feel more comfortable now that she has gotten to know more professional colleagues and what to expect. In the long term, Henderson doesnt consider herself standing alone as Canadas only hope in womens golf. "Definitely I think the game in Canada is growing, and there are some young pros coming up like Sue Kim, and Jennifer Kirby and Rebecca Lee-Bentham that are great players and have full status on the tour this year," she said. "Maybe they havent played as well as they would have liked, but I think the future is bright for them." It could be even brighter for Henderson if she continues down her developmental path. Golf Canadas Brent McLaughlin said just like with mens golfer Mike Weir, Canadian fans "need to rally around heroes" and considers Henderson one of those. "Were so proud of Brooke. ... Any time you see young talents just excel, youre proud of them," McLaughlin said on a conference call last week. "(Fans) need to have a reason to watch. ... It makes kids want to be like them. We need that in our sport. Weve very fortunate, very lucky and very proud." Henderson is one of 15 Canadians in the field this week, along with pros Kane, Sharp, Lee-Bentham, Kirby, Kim, Maude-Aimee LeBlanc, Sara-Maude Juneau, Samantha Richdale, Nicole Vandermade, Natalie Gleadall, Erica Rivard, Jessica Wallace and fellow amateurs Jennifer Ha and Elizabeth Tong. No Canadian woman has won this tournament since Jocelyne Bourassa captured the title at the inaugural edition in 1973. For 22 years from 1979 through 2000 it was a major, and it still carries that importance to Henderson. "It used to be a major back in the day, and to me it still is one," she said. "Its very close to home. Its our national championship." New Zealands Lydia Ko, at 17 a two-time defending champion at Canadas national championship, knows from experience that Henderson has had to repeatedly answer the question about when shes turning pro. Henderson said Wednesday its still her plan to attend the University of Florida with the hope of having an LPGA Tour career in the future. That means for now Henderson is one of the faces of amateur womens golf, something she has accepted. "Of course there is a little bit of pressure, but I enjoy it," Henderson said. "I love a challenge." Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Soccer Jerseys China ' ' '
