Pac-12 champion on New Years Day

Posted in IYH Forums by fangxu0220 at 06:39, May 26 2015

Baltimore, MD - Nate McLouth will have a new address next season, though it wont be far from his old one. The former Baltimore Orioles outfielder has agreed to a two-year contract with the Washington Nationals, the Baltimore Sun reported on Friday. According to the paper, the deal is worth $10.75 million and contains an option for the 2016 season. McLouth joins the Nationals off a pair of solid seasons with the Orioles. He batted .268 with seven home runs and 12 stolen bases in just 55 games in 2012, then swiped a career-best 30 bags while batting .258 with 12 homers and 36 RBI as Baltimores primary left fielder last year. The 32-year-old is expected to serve as a fourth outfielder with Washington, which looks to be set at those positions with Bryce Harper, Denard Span and Jayson Werth all returning. McLouth is a nine-year veteran who owns a .250 lifetime average with 100 homers, 326 RBI and 129 steals over 515 career games with Pittsburgh, Atlanta and the Orioles. The left-handed hitter was a 2008 All-Star selection with the Pirates and led the league with 46 doubles while swatting 26 homers that year. Atlanta Hawks Jersey . HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- College football is on the verge of finally having a playoff, its own version of the final four. For the first time, all the power brokers who run the highest level of the sport are comfortable with the idea of deciding a championship the way its done from pee-wees to pros. And the way fans have been hoping they would for years. "Yes, weve agreed to use the P word," Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said Thursday. They want to limit it to four teams. Thats for sure. Now they have to figure out how to pick the teams, where and when to play the games and how the bowls do or do not fit in. The new post-season format would go into effect for the 2014 season. As for the 14-year-old Bowl Championship Series, its on life support. Any chance that it survives past the next two seasons? "I hope not," said Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive, who pitched a four-team playoff four years ago but was shot down at this same beachside hotel. "This is a seismic change for college football," BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock said after the 11 conference commissioners and Notre Dames athletic director wrapped up three days of meetings in south Florida. That Hancock actually used the word playoff when describing what was being considered alone signalled a shift in thinking for the BCS. In a memo leading up to these meetings, the term "four-team event" was used to describe creating two national semifinals and a championship game. Hancock said the commissioners will present a "small number" of options for a four-team playoff to their leagues over the next month or so at conference meetings. He estimated that between two and seven configurations are being considered. Itll be up to each conference to determine which plan it likes best. The commissioners will get back together in June and try to come up with a final version, and eventually the university presidents will have to sign off on it. Hancock has said theyd like a new format ready for approval by July 4. And he warned that if no agreement is reached, the fallback could be sticking with an overhauled version of the old system, which aims for a No. 1 vs. No. 2 championship game. But thats a longshot. "Its great to get to a point where there seems to be general consensus that a four-team, three-game playoff is the best route to go," Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford said. "The next challenge obviously is figuring out a format that brings consensus where we can truly make that work. The more this narrows, the more challenging it gets." The first step is figuring out the where and when. The when should be easy. The commissioners all agree the college football season needs to wrap up as close to Jan. 1 as possible. That would mean semifinals soon after Christmas and the title game within a few days of the calendar flipping. "One of the goaals is to make the post-season a celebration of college football," Slive said.dddddddddddd"And to focus in on a reasonable time frame that is consistent with a reasonable bowl season. And then be able to have a championship game and semifinals at a time and a place that would allow us to really celebrate college football at a time when people are thinking about college football, which is in and around the end of December and early January." Where is the best place to celebrate college football? That figures to be a heated debate. Slive has made it clear hes not a fan of playing semifinals on campus, a plan the Big Ten has presented and the Pac-12 supports. "Im a big proponent of it," Scott said. "That was the choice we made in our conference with our championship game. Collegiate atmosphere. Guaranteed sellout. Weve said all along preserving the regular season is important. What better way to emphasize the importance of the regular season then having a chance to earn a home game? Its a proven NFL model." Slive prefers playing the games at neutral sites, the way the NCAA basketball tournament does. That leads to the question: How do the bowls fit in? The national championship game has shifted between the Sugar, Orange, Fiesta and Rose bowl sites during the 14 years the BCS has been in existence. First, the bowl itself was the championship game. Then the BCS moved to a five-game model in which the championship was played after the bowls but at one of those four stadiums. The commissioners are considering allowing the bowls to be involved, but not necessarily calling the three playoff games "bowls." The Fiesta Bowl would be fine not hosting a bowl in certain years, if it can host a playoff game. On the other hand, the Rose Bowl would prefer to just be the Rose Bowl, sticking with its traditional matchup of Big Ten champion vs. Pac-12 champion on New Years Day. But those league champions will often be heading to the playoffs in a new format. "They definitely want to be part of the system," Scott said of the Rose Bowl. The commissioners wont even get into how they pick the teams until after they have presented a format to the presidential oversight committee. "The whole topic of selection and who would get in is something that weve really parked for now," Scott said. "We realize thats going to require a whole lot more debate and study." Among those debates: Slive prefers the four top-ranked teams regardless of conferences in the playoffs. Scott likes the idea of taking the top four conference champions as a way of moving away from the subjectivity of polls that dominant the current BCS standings. Much to be decided, but at least everybody is talking the same language: playoffs. "Ive always tried not to use the dreaded P-word," Slive said. "But now were all using it. So what the heck?" wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

NEW YORK -- More than a dozen cities are interested in hosting the NFL draft in 2015 draft, and the league hopes to choose a site this summer. New York, Los Angeles and Chicago were invited this week to make presentations for next springs draft. But the league stresses that no finalists have been selected and many other cities are in the running. The draft drew record TV ratings last month. It has been held in New York since 1965, with Radio City Music Hall the venue since 2006. But the Music Hall was not available for the usual late April dates this year and the draft was pushed back to May 8-10. For the 2015 draft, the NFL is seeking proposals for April 22-25 or April 29-May 2. The NFL originally was less than happy that Radio City could not be used in April, although the two-week move into May seemed beneficial as interest ramped up. The theatre, owned by Madison Square Garden, will not be available next year, either, but the Garden has a smaller venue, one that previously has held the draft. Or, considering its skyrocketing popularity, the draft could wind up in the main arena if it stays in New York. The league this week sent letters to organizations that work on behalf of hosting events in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, asking for information. Among the factors the league will consider are: --availability of the proposed venue or venues for April 22-25 and April 29-May 2. --number of fans the venues could hold for the draft and related events. --ability to host a fan festival in an adjacent indoor or outdoor space. --hotel availability for fans, team and league staff, incoming draft prospects and their families. Among the other cities that have shown interest in the draft are Boston, Cleveland, Green Bay, Houston, Nashville, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Seattle. Also, Canton, Ohio, the site of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Commissioner Roger Goodell several times has suggested the draft could be expanded to four days and moved around the country. "Were looking at ways to make the draft more exciting for our fans," Goodell said. "We are looking at a lot of options, perhaps expand the number of days or moving it around." miehet Nike Air Max 90 Essential valkoinen/liuskekivi/musta Training . SOCHI, Russia -- A Ukrainian cross-country skier has failed a doping test, her countrys Olympic committee said Saturday. It is the third positive result of the Sochi Games. Marina Lisogor tested positive for trimetazidine, which is classified as a "specified stimulant" on the World Anti-Doping Agencys prohibited list. Specified substances are considered more susceptible to inadvertent use and can carry reduced penalties. The 30-year-old Lisogor competed in two cross-country events in Sochi, finishing far out of the medals. According to the Ukrainian Olympic Committee, Lisogor said she did not knowingly take a banned substance. Lisogors failed drug test follows those of German biathlete Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle and Italian bobsledder William Frullani. All three drug-test failures are tied to stimulants. The IOC is conducting 2,453 drug tests in Sochi, a record for the Winter Games. The German Olympic Committee said she was being sent home. She blamed a nutritional supplement and said she had never knowingly taken performance-enhancing drugs. "I am going through the worst nightmare that you can imagine because I am unable to explain at all how there could be a positive test," she said Friday. Frullani was ejected from the games after testing positive for dimetylpentylamine. Frullani, who had not competed yet, asked for a backup test that confirmed the result. The Italian Olympic Committee told The Associated Press it believed Frullani, a former decathlete, bought the stimulant on the Internet from the United States since it is not available in Italy. wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

Michael Brantley did anything and everything for the Indians last season. His versatility and consistency has been rewarded. Brantley has agreed to long-term contract with the Indians, a person familiar with the deal told the AP on Tuesday. Clevelands most consistent player in 2013, Brantley will sign a four-year, $25 million deal once he passes a physical, says the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract cant be finalized until he undergoes the medical examination. The Indians are reporting to spring training in Goodyear, Ariz., this week, and it appears theyll open camp by announcing their commitment to Brantley. The deal was first reported by Northeast Ohio Media Group. Brantley moved from centre field to left last spring when the Indians signed free agent Michael Bourn. The switch didnt rattle Brantley, who batted .284 with 10 homers and 73 RBIs in 151 games. Manager Terry Francona used Brantley throughout his lineup -- he batted everywhere but ninth -- and he excelled in the field by not making an error and recording 11 assists. The Indians were scheduled to go to an arbitration hearing with Brantley on Feb. 17. Brantleys new deal locks him up through the 2017 season and the club has an $11 million option for 2018. He was at his best late last season, batting .345 with 14 RBIs in September to lead the Indians push toward a wild-card playoff spot. Brantley began his career with Cleveland as "the player to be named" in the blockbuster deal that sent pitcher CC Sabathia to Milwaukee in 2008. While first baseman Matt LaPorta didnt pan out for the Indians, Brantley has developed into one of their core players. LOS ANGELES -- History? Pressure? Jason Collins would have none of it after becoming the NBAs first active openly gay player. After all, it was almost game time. "Right now Im focusing on trying to learn the plays, learning the coverages and the game plan and the assignments. So I didnt have time to really think about history," Collins said at a crowded press conference less than an hour before his Brooklyn Nets faced the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night. Collins signed a 10-day contract with the Nets earlier Sunday and played in the first half against the Lakers, grabbing a rebound and committing a couple of fouls. The 35-year-old centre revealed at the end of last season he is gay, but he was a free agent and had remained unsigned. Collins said he was aware of the magnitude of his signing, but repeatedly said he was most concerned with learning the Nets schemes. "The pressure is playing in an NBA game tonight and last time I played in an NBA game was last April," Collins said. "So I think thats enough pressure right there." With a need for another big man, the Nets turned to the 7-foot Collins, who helped them reach two NBA Finals in the early 2000s. "The decision to sign Jason was a basketball decision," general manager Billy King said in a statement. "We needed to increase our depth inside, and with his experience and size, we felt he was the right choice for a 10-day contract." Collins has played 12 NBA seasons, including his first seven with the Nets, when they were in New Jersey and Jason Kidd was their point guard. Kidd is now the Nets coach and Collins has been a teammate of several other current Nets. "Jason told us that his goal was to earn another contract with an NBA team. Today, I want to commend him on achieving his goal. I know everyone in the NBA family is excited for him and proud that our league fosters an inclusive and respectful environment," Commissioner Adam Silver said. The Nets worked out Collins during the All-Star break and met with him again Sunday, with his twin brother, Jarron, hinting that history would be made. "Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. Today should be a pretty cool day!" Jarron Collins wrote on Twitter. The news on Jason Collins comes as Michael Sam, the SEC co-defensive player of the year from Missouri who recently revealed he is gay, is taking part in the NFL draft combine. Sams on-field workouts in Indianapolis are scheduled for Monday. Collins was asked if he felt the tide is turning regarding gay players coming out, including Sam. "I hope so. What Michael said was it was about him being a football player and me being a basketball player, and going out there and trying to help our respective teams win," Collins said. He played 38 games last season with Boston and Washington and averaged 1.1 points and 1.6 rebounds in limited minutes. For his career, the 7-foot Collins averages 3.6 points and 3.8 rebounds. "Im a solid veteran, and hopefully Ill be in the right place" on the court, Collins said. "I know I can execute the game plan. Its just about focusing on the task at hand and not thinking about history or anything along those lines. I just want to make it difficult for the Lakers tonight." Collins entered the game with 10:28 left in the second quarter and the Nets leading 35-26 after Nick Young made the first of his two free throws. The crowd welcomed him with a nice ovation when public address announcer Lawrence Tanter announced his name. Collins announcement last spring was followed by numerous NBA players insisting he would be welcomed in the locker room. Collins has played for five other teams and is well respected inside and outside the league -- he attended the State of the Union as a guest of first lady Michelle Obama. "I just know Jason as a person and as a player. Thats what Im happy about. He has earned it. Hes a great guy. Its good for the league. The important thing is to judge him as a person and a basketball player," Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau said. "I know people who have coached him, and I know how highly thought of he is." Former Suns player Kevin Johnson, now Sacramentos mayor, said he saw Collins two weeks ago at the White House "and I thanked him for his courage and being strong and wished him well and to keep fighting hard. "I think its incredible for him. I think its incredible for the league. If Im on the Nets, my commitment is I want to get in the playoffs and I want to go far. All that is fine but I need him to win games and I think hes up for that challenge." The Nets had an opening for a big man after trading Reggie Evans along with Jason Terry to Sacramento on Wednesday for guard Marcus Thornton. King said Thursday that Collins would be among the players they would look at, insisting they wouldnt be concerned about any extra attention the signing of Collins would provide. "Were going to bring in a basketball player," King said. "Its not about marketing or anything like that." The Nets posted a photo on their Twitter account of Kidd watching Collins sign his contract, encouraging followers to retweet it to welcome Collins to Brooklyn. Collins is third in Nets history with 511 games played, and also ranks in their top 10 in minutes played, and offensive rebounds and total rebounds. A limited offensive player, the Nets hope he still provides a presence defensively and on the boards. "I know Jason Collins is a competitor. One thing I know about him is he fouls very hard," Miamis Dwyane Wade said with a laugh. "Hes one of those tough veterans. Im sure hes happy to be back playing in the league. Welcome back." Since making his announcement last year, "Life is more exciting for me," Collins said. "I mean, I dont have to hide who I am and I can be my normal self. The past 10 months have been incredible. Im making new friends, hearing different peoples stories, sharing experiences. Its just been an overall positive." Collins grew up in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles and has a house here, so there was some normalcy to his day. HALIFAX -- The mayor of Halifax says the city should have its own mixed-use stadium and he likes the idea of having a CFL team as an anchor tenant, but Mike Savage says discussions with the league and potential investors are just starting. Savage, who met Monday in Halifax with CFL commissioner Mark Cohon, declined to discuss timelines or the degree of interest from the private sector or other levels of government -- the lack of which has sunk previous bids. "We dont have a stadium and I dont have a model for a stadium," the mayor told a news conference at a downtown hotel. "I have a belief that we should have a stadium in this municipality and it would be great if the CFL was part of that... . This is the year we have to figure out how serious we are about having a stadium." Savage said city council voted two years ago to contribute $20 million toward construction of a 20,000-seat stadium for the 2015 FIFA Womens World Cup of soccer, but there werent enough partners to make the proposal a reality. At the time, the provincial government said it wasnt interested in contributing, which left private investors reluctant to sign on. "There is an atmosphere in this city that says we can do some things that we couldnt do before," Savage said. "In terms of a stadium, the private sector will always say, Wheres government on this? " Cohon said establishing a CFL team in Halifax is part of the leagues long-term plan. But he declined to name any of the national or local business leaders that he and the mayor are talking to. "Its Day 1, guys," he said. "Its our first meeting." The commissioner repeatedly pointed to the new CFL franchise in Ottawa, the RedBlacks, as a potential model for Halifax. But he stressed that the talks that led to that teams rebirth took seven years to come to fruition.dddddddddddd Cohon said the new, mixed-use stadium in Ottawa, the result of a public-private partnership, features a large retail space, condominiums, parkland and office space. The total cost for the project was $290 million, with $173 million coming from the city, the projects website says. "We have a proven model that is working right now in Ottawa," Cohon said. "We have to think big. Dont just think about CFL. Think about this as a catalyst for a bigger opportunity." No one in the sports community was expecting a big announcement Monday, considering Cohon had said last week the Halifax meetings were just exploratory. Still, Cohon suggested that Halifax is the next logical location for a CFL franchise, even though there has been significant interest expressed in Moncton. "I think the challenge in Moncton, its a bit of a smaller community with a smaller business community," he said. CFL teams last played an exhibition game in Halifax in 2005, and there have been three Touchdown Atlantic games in Moncton. Cohon said all CFL teams except one is either making a profit or breaking even. Staying in the black requires annual revenue between $17 million and $20 million, he said. Despite Cohons optimism, plans to build a stadium in Halifax have gone off the rails three times in the past 30 years. In the mid-1980s, financing fell through for a 30,000-seat stadium that was supposed to be used by a CFL team called the Atlantic Schooners. In March 2007, the city and the province pulled out of a bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games when cost estimates jumped from $785 million to almost $1.7 billion. Plans for a 20,000-seat stadium died along with the bid. wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

HOUSTON - The Houston Rockets needed one win in their last two games or a loss by Portland on Wednesday to secure home-court advantage in their first-round playoff series against the Trail Blazers. They were certainly happy to wrap it up Monday night instead of waiting until Wednesday to learn their fate. Chandler Parsons scored 21 points and Dwight Howard and Terrence Jones added 20 apiece to lift the Rockets to a 104-98 win over the San Antonio Spurs. The victory gave No. 4 seed Houston home-court advantage in their first-round playoff series with Portland. "We fought hard for it," coach Kevin McHale said. "It took a little longer than I hoped, but we knew we had to get 54 wins and we got there with one to spare. Im glad we didnt have to wait until Wednesday to try and get it." James Harden agreed. "We wanted to come out here and take care of business and not rely on our last game on the road," Harden said. San Antonio used a big run at the beginning of the fourth quarter to go on top and was up by three later in the period when Houston scored eight straight to regain the lead at 95-90. A layup by Jeff Ayres got the Spurs within four points before Harden knocked down a long 2-pointer with less than a minute left to make it 100-94. Marco Belinelli had 17 points to lead the Spurs, who limited the minutes of stars Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili with their top seed in the Western Conference playoffs already secure. Duncan had 12 points in less than 30 minutes, Parker scored 10 in about 25 and Ginobili had 10 in about 22. "We definitely did what we wanted to do," Parker said. "We were able to play everybody — no injuries — and we got a good sweat out of it. We did some good stuff and Houston got the win at the end." Harden added 16 points with seven assists for the Rockets, who swept the four-game series this season with San Antonio. Howard had 17 rebounds and Jones pulled down 11 for Houston. It was the second game back for Howard after he sat out the previous eight because of a left ankle strain. "I feel like I was in a better rhythm, but Im going to continue to get in shape, continue to do whatever I can to get my wind back so I can do more things on the floor." The Spurs opened the fourth quarter with a 14-4 run to go on top 82-80 for their first lead since the first quarter. Belinelli got that run going with a 3-pointer and finished it with a jump shot. Houston missed five shots, including two layups as San Antonio took the lead. A layup by Parker cut Houstons lead to three points with about eight minutes left in the third quarter. The Rockets then used a 7-2 run to push their advantage to 64-56. Parsons started the run with a 3-pointer and Jones did the rest, starting with a tip-in before capping it with a soaring, one-handed alley-oop dunk on a pass from Harden. The Rockets scored seven straight points later in the quarter to push its lead to 14, but San Antonio scored the last six points of the quarter with four from Ginobili to cut the lead to 76-68 entering the fourth quarter. Houston led by nine after the first quarter and scored the first five points of the second quarter to extend its lead to 35-21. The Spurs had cut into the lead midway through the quarter and got within 41-36 with about five minutes left in the half after four quick points by Duncan. An alley-oop dunk by Duncan about three minutes later cut Houstons lead to 48-40 late in the second quarter. Harden got miffed at Ginobilis physical defence after that and put his left shoulder into him and knocked him to the ground as he drove down the court. That play was initially ruled a flagrant foul on Harden, causing him to yell and curse at the officials as Patrick Beverley held him back. The play was reviewed and knocked down to a personal foul, but Harden received a technical for his behaviour after the call. Ginobili made the free throw and Boris Diaws hook shot got San Antonio within five, but Howard reverse layup left the Rockets ahead 50-43 at halftime. NOTES: Duncan received a technical in the first quarter when he knocked Beverley down after the guard was called for a foul on Duncan. ... Howard got a technical midway through the third quarter when he seemingly inadvertently slapped Ginobili in the face at the end of a play. ... KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Alex Gordon had two firsts Sunday: six RBIs and a curtain call. Gordon went 4 for 4 with a pair of three-run homers and a career-high six RBIs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-6. Gordon drove a 1-1 pitch from Ubaldo Jimenez (2-5) out to right with two outs in the fifth with Nori Aoki and Billy Butler aboard. Gordon, who led the Royals with 20 home runs last year, had gone 134 at-bats without a home run. Gordon homered in his next at-bat, a three-run shot off left-hander Troy Patton in the seventh after Eric Hosmer walked and Butler doubled for his third hit. The Kauffman Stadium crowd then gave Gordon a lengthy standing ovation, calling him out of the dugout. Gordon said he had "never" had a curtain call. "I didnt know what to do," Gordon said. "They told me just to go wave my helmet. They just started yelling at me. I was downstairs enjoying the moment. They told me to come up and give the crowd a wave. It was my first. Hopefully, its not the last. It was pretty cool. Its something I want forget. "Its fun when we play like this and the crowd starts doing what they do. It makes it really exciting." It was Gordons third career multi-homer game. His six RBIs matched a Royals season high. His four hits matched a career high, the 10th time he has accomplished that. "Even though I was making good pitches, they found a way to hit the ball hard. I felt really good and I made a lot of good pitches," Jimenez said. "They had a good approach. I threw a lot of sinkers down and they found the hole every time. They had a really good game. Theres nothing I can do but move on." Gordons second homer turned out to be necessary. Adam Jones hit a three-run homer off Royals reliever Aaron Crow in the ninth. It was the first runs Crow allowed in 20 relief appearances and 17 innings. Greg Holland got the final two outs for his 12th save in 13 appearances. James Shields (6-3) picked up his fifth win in six starts, holding the Orioles to three runs and nine hits over seven innings. Shields won back-to-back starts at Kauffman Stadium for the first time. Shields settled down after a three-run third when he gave up five hits, including four straight to open the inning. "The difference (was) I was getting my ground balls and they found holes," Shields said of the third inning. "I was making my pitches, trying to get a double play that inning and they were just finding some good holes." Jimenez, who was 2-0 with a 0.46 ERA in his first three May starts, was pulled after five innings. He permitted five runs on eight hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. "The pitch to Gordon was uncharacteristic," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "He had, really, just the one (bad) pitch to Gordon. He tried to go down and away, and it came back in and came into a sweet spot. He hadnt walked anybody to that point, either. Except for one pitch I thought he was good. After the first inning he was pretty crisp." Nick Markakis singled home J.J. Hardy, who had three hits, and David Lough in the Orioles third. Manny Machado, who had three hits, had a sacrifice fly in the third to score Jonathan Schoop for the other run off Shields. Butler singled home Aoki with two outs in the first for the first Kansas City run. Lorenzo Cains single in the fourth scored Gordon with the other Royals run. Notes: RHP Dylan Bundy, the Orioles top prospect and the fourth overall pick in the 2011 draft, is scheduled to throw an inning in extended spring Tuesday in Florida. It will be his first time to face opposing hitters since having Tommy John surgery last June 27. .Royals 2B Omar Infante, who is on the disabled list with a lower back disc irritation, has begun to hit off the tee and is taking slow rollers. .The Orioles dropped to 1-6 in Sunday games. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish could only smile after Brett Gardner homered off of him for the third time in a week. Darvish got really emotional after his last pitch, with Gardner and Derek Jeter both on base again for the New York Yankees. After striking out his final batter to get out of that jam in the seventh, Darvish shouted out and pumped his fist several times coming off the mound, and the Rangers held on for a 4-2 victory Monday night. "Im just glad they didnt tie the game," Darvish said through his translator about his rare emphatic response. "It was late in the game, and it was a close game, and it got close to a win, so I think I just showed emotions because of that." Darvish (10-6) struck out eight in seven innings, the biggest coming when Brian McCann swung and missed to end the seventh. "That was an example of his competitive juices," manager Ron Washington said. "Once he got out of that inning, he should show excitement. Im glad he did, because it was a tense time." J.P. Arencibia had a tiebreaking two-run single in the fifth, when the Rangers scored all of their runs with five consecutive batters reaching base with two outs. Gardner homered twice and Jeter had three hits to pass Carl Yastrzemski for seventh place on the hits list. The rest of the Yankees managed only three hits off Darvish, who threw 80 of his 108 pitches for strikes five days after losing a rain-shortened game in New York. David Phelps (5-5) lost for the first time in nine starts, allowing four runs and eight hits in six innings. The right-hander, like Darvish, was credited with a complete game last Wednesday in the 2-1 Yankees victory that didnt resume after rain in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Yankees led 2-0 after Gardner homered in the fifth, an at-bat started with him taking three consecutive curveballs in the mid-60s, the first two of them strikes. Darvish smiled Gardner after homered on a 2-2 pitch, an 85-mph slider left over the plate that jjust cleared the centre field wall.dddddddddddd Gardner, also homered in the third, and has 12 homers after the first multihomer game of his career. He also went deep off Darvish last week, though he has little explanation for his success against the Japanese ace. "Im not sure. I try to get good at-bats. Small sample size," Gardner said. "Its hard to have confidence in the batters box when hes on the mound." TRAINERS ROOM Yankees: First baseman Mark Teixeira played for the first time in eight games when he had a pinch-hit single in the eighth inning, then was lifted for a pinch runner. Teixeira took groundballs and batting practice on the field with hopes of being back in the starting lineup Tuesday. Teixeira said the back spasms that have bothered him are gone. "I feel better now than Ive felt in over a month," he said. Rangers: RHP Nick Tepesch, who left Saturdays start with a sore left knee, will have to throw a bullpen session before the Rangers determine if he will start Friday night at Cleveland. "We still want to see how he does," Washington said. ON DECK Yankees: Brandon McCarthy makes his fourth start for the Yankees since being acquired from Arizona on July 6. The 6-foot-7 right-hander, who pitched for Texas from 2007-09, is 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA for New York, and is 4-0 with a 1.78 ERA his last five starts overall. Rangers: Rookie right-hander Nick Martinez (1-6) makes his second consecutive start against the Yankees since coming off the disabled list. He threw 5 1-3 scoreless innings last Tuesday, a game the Rangers lost in 14 innings. JETER PASSES YAZ: Jeter now has 3,420th career hit, one more than Yastrzemski. Next on the list is Honus Wagner at 3,430. "Its tough to enjoy when you lose the game," Jeter said. RANGERS RELIEF: After Neal Cotts worked a scoreless eighth, Neftali Feliz got out Gardner and Jeter in a perfect ninth for his second save since taking back the closer role last week after Joakim Soria was traded. wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

RENTON, Wash. -- First Matt Hasselbeck was told his decade at quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks was over. Now its middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu being shown the door, leaving the Seahawks with just two remaining members of their Super Bowl team from six seasons ago. Tatupu was cut by Seattle on Sunday morning after the Seahawks defensive captain reportedly declined to restructure his contact. It was announced as a "mutual decision," a line that was regularly repeated by head coach Pete Carroll following practice on Sunday afternoon. But throughout his explanation, Carroll never gave a clear reason as to why the decision was made to part with Tatupu. "It was a few days of talking and really good conversations and putting things in perspective and recognizing that its going to take time to figure it out and see what is best. I love Lofa as a football player and like him on our football team. I told him that, I was clear about that. Hes done a tremendous job and hes still a terrific football player," Carroll said. "But under the circumstances right now it was just the right thing to do to let him go ahead and hit it and see where he goes from there." He leaves after anchoring the middle of Seattles defence for most of six seasons, including three Pro Bowl appearances and a major hand in taking the Seahawks to their only Super Bowl appearance following his rookie season in 2005. It certainly wasnt a simple decision for Carroll or easy for linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. Tatupu played for Carroll and Norton at USC and Carroll raved about the importance of having Tatupu on his defence from the second he arrived back in the NFL with the Seahawks. But ultimately the decision was made to move on without the Seahawks defensive captain from every season since the 2005 playoff run that ended with Seattles loss to Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl. Carroll said the decision was made so early in training camp in part to give Tatupu options in free agency. "Its always business," Carroll said. "There is always business involved in every decision you make and there is no decision in personnel one way or another that isnt affected in that regard." But the 28-year-old Tatupu has struggled with injuries the past few seasons and seen a decline in production. He missed most of 2009 after tearing a pectoral muscle. Last season he played in all 16 games, but his 88 tackles were the lowest of his career in a full season and he needed surgery on both knees in the off-season. Tatupus prime was his first few seasons when he recorded more than 100 tackles and went to the Pro Bowl each year between 2005-07. During the first couple of days of training camp, Tatupu was in a practice jersey, but mostly just a spectator while his teammates went through drills. Tatupu signed a contract extension back in 2008 that locked him up with the Seahawks potentially through the 2015 season and could have paid him up to US$42 million. He was scheduled to make $4.35 million in base salary for the 2011 season. A few days of conversations between Tatupu and Seattles management ultimately led to Sundays move. Now Seattle is trying to replace both its offensive and defensive leaders. "We actually talked all of yesterday, just off and on or whatever. Ive been through it and its tough," said linebacker Leroy Hill, who was part of the same draft class as Tatupu. "Its a tough decision to make and you know he made his decision and you got to respect him for his decision and, like I said, move on." David Hawthorne will move back to inside linebacker after shifting outside last season. Hawthorne took Tatupus place after he was injured in 2009 and led Seattle in tackles each of the past two seasons. "He meant a lot, for me especially because I came in undrafted and he kind of took me under his wing and taught me a lot," Hawthorne said. "So today was a hard day for the linebackers." Hill -- who re-signed earlier this week to a one-year deal and joins cornerback Marcus Trufant as the only remaining members from Seattles Super Bowl team -- will get the first shot at outside linebacker. Seattle also grabbed rookies K.J. Wright (fourth-round) and Malcolm Smith (seventh-round) during the April draft. In total only 16 players remain on the roster from when Carroll took over in January 2010. "We came in together, same position. Were sort of tied together when it comes to Seattle," Hill said. "I choked up a little bit, but its all good." Muhammad Wilkerson Jersey For Sale . Then Ryan Raburn came to the plate and did what he usually does against the Chicago White Sox. The National Hockey League handed down a 10- game suspension to New York Rangers forward Daniel Carcillo on Friday. At the 5:51 mark of the first period and following a fight with Montreals Brandon Prust in Thursdays Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals, Carcillo used his elbow to try and disengage from linesman Scott Driscoll and swiped the side of Driscolls face with his forearm prior to being escorted to the penalty box. Carcillo was given an automatic game misconduct for his actions, and the suspension is commensurate with Rule 40.3 regarding physical abuse of officials. The rule states: "Any player who deliberately applies physical force to an official in any manner (excluding actions as set out in Category I), which physical force is applied without intent to injure, or who spits on an official, shall be automatically suspended for not less than ten (10) games." Had the feisty 29-year-old winger caused any physical harm to Driscoll, he could have been subject to Rule 40.2, which allows for a 20-game suspension to "any player who deliberately strikes an official and causes injury or who deliberately applies physical force in any manner against an official with intent to injure, or who in any manner attempts to injure an official." The ban means Carcillo wont be eligible to return unless the Rangers advance to the Stanley Cup Finals and reach a deciding Game 7. Nike Roshe Run Saldi Online . Listen to the Raptors vs. Jazz live tonight on TSN Radio 1050 at 9pm et/6pm pt. The Raptors are 1-1 so far on the five-game junket after defeating Denver and losing to Portland. In Saturdays 106-103 loss to the Blazers, the home team blew a 16-point advantage and eventually won on Damian Lillards running bank shot with 11.9 seconds left. Portland led 31-19 after the first quarter and had three players score at least 20 points. Toronto was led by DeMar DeRozans 36 points and 12 assists, while Kyle Lowry and Jonas Valanciunas scored 23 and 18 points, respectively, for the Raptors, who shot 46 percent for the game. "We understand what we had to do, honestly," DeRozan said. "We understand we were down big and the only way we would get back in this game was to get stops and thats what we started doing. That was the main part. We were missing a lot of easy shots that we normally make, but we dont worry about that. The only thing we worry about is the defensive game and we picked it up in the second half." DeRoozan is averaging 27.dddddddddddd points in his last five games. The Raptors, who are four games ahead of Brooklyn in the Atlantic, still have to visit Sacramento and the Los Angeles Clippers on the road trip. Raptors guard Greivis Vasquez is questionable for Monday with an illness. Utah has dropped two in a row and four of its last six games, including Saturdays 102-87 setback to the Clippers. Enes Kanter had 23 points and 14 rebounds, and Richard Jefferson scored 19 for the Jazz, who made only 35.8 percent of their shots and got 15 points from Gordon Hayward. "They showed their experience on us. Jamal Crawford made some big shots," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. "They executed in the second half. We just didnt get the stops when we needed to." Jazz forward Derrick Favors missed the game with a sore right hip and is questionable for Mondays game. He has missed two straight. Toronto defeated Utah, 115-91, at Air Canada Centre on Nov. 9, but has lost 14 of the previous 16 meetings between the teams. LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- U.S. captain Tom Watson said Monday that Tiger Woods latest back injury "doesnt bode well right now" for Woods playing in the Ryder Cup. Watson told SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio he was watching the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational when Woods withdrew after hitting his tee shot on the ninth hole because of another injury to his back. "Tiger would be a great addition to our team," Watson said. "As Ive said all along, I would pick Tiger Woods if hes healthy and playing well. This doesnt bode well right now. I just hope that maybe its just an isolated problem that he can turn around and possibly play this week at the PGA." Woods flew home to Florida on Sunday to be evaluated. It was not clear when he would know if he could play at Valhalla, where Woods won the PGA Championship in 2000. His caddie was on the course Monday. Woods agent told ESPN on Monday that the four-time PGA Championship winner has not been ruled out of the tournament. Woods, in only his third tournament since returning from back surgery, said he jarred his lower back when he hopped into a deep bunker after playing an awkward shot from the slope of the bunker on the second hole at Firestone. He tried to keep playing and hit some shockingly bad shots -- one into the water on No. 3, another on the par-3 fifth that was 65 yards short of the flag. "I watched him play almost the entire front nine," Watson said. "And the shot he had at 5 ... I said, Somethings wrong with Tiger. You dont hit that terrible a shot ever -- ever. And then, of course, No. 9, he just couldnt go any farther. It concerns me because thats an injury that seems like he tried to address before and hes come back from that particular injury." Watson said he sent Woods a text to tell him he was sorry about the injury, and "I hope you get well soon." Woods missed two majors and three months of the season after March 31 back surgery. He has no chance of making the Ryder Cup team unless he wins the PGA Championship. If he cant play this week, that would be the end of his PGA Tour season until after the Ryder Cup. cheap nfl jerseys . Hes back looking like his usual bashing self -- just in time to help Tanaka on Saturday. GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Two nights after losing to the Eastern Conferences worst team, the Phoenix Coyotes handled the best. Zbynek Michalek scored against his former team, his first goal in 83 games, and the Coyotes became the first Pacific Division team to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in regulation this season with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night. Mike Ribeiro had a goal and an assist for Phoenix. Radim Vrbata scored the third goal for the Coyotes, who were coming off perhaps their worst loss of the season, 3-2 at home to the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. "I think we had something to prove," Michalek said. "We believed in this room that when we play the right way, we can play against any team. I think tonight was a great effort by everybody." Evgeni Malkin scored for the Penguins, who entered 8-0-1 against Pacific Division foes. Michaleks previous goal was scored on March 5, 2012, for Pittsburgh against Phoenix. "Its been almost two years," he said. "Hopefully I dont have to wait that long for the next one." Michalek acknowledged that he had extra motivation for this one. "For sure," he said. "This one feels good, and for me even sweeter. Anytime you play against your former team, you want to show up, you want to win." The Penguins, who had won three straight over the Coyotes, made their first appearance in Arizona in 3 1-2 years. Mike Smith, back in goal after Phoenix had gone with Thomas Greiss the previous two games, made 23 saves. Pittsburghs Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 27 shots. With just 24 shots, the Penguins offence was off its usual form. "Tonight was a tough-fought game. There wasnt a lot out there," Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma said. "Thats the kind of games we expect. We have to be able to play a patient game, not be taking chances with the way we play or the way we play with the puck." Playing in front 17,362, the Coyotes second-largest home crowd this season, Pittsburgh fell behind 2-0. The Penguins made it a one-goal game before Vrbatas shot on a 2-on-1 rush slipped through Fleury to make it 3-1 with 15:47 to play. The Penguins fell to 2-10 in games in which NHL scoring leader Sidney Crosby fails to get a point. "They play good team defence as a group," Crosby said. "I think we didnt make it tough enough on them. We didnt hold the puck in their zone. Theyre pretty good at blocking shots and getting their stick on pucks. "You have to give them credit, but I dont think we did a good enough job of creating, either. I think we could have done more there." Coyotes coach Dave Tippett credited the defence of Oliver Ekman-Larsson against the Crosby line. "Ollie was all-world there," Tippett said. "Thats an unbelievable game by him." Ekman-Larsson called it "a good challenge for me and Z (Michalek)." "I think we did a pretty good job all night," he said. "So it was fun." Ribeiro put Phoenix ahead 1-0 with his 14th goal of the season and 200th of his career. His wrist shot from the left circle got past Fleurys left side and rattled in with 7:18 to play in the opening period. David Schlemnko and Antoine Vermette had assists. Vermette extended his career-high point streak to seven games. Ribeiros goal came just after Pittsburgh killed a penalty. After Pittsburghs prolific power play failed to score, Phoenix made it 2-0 on Michaleks slap shot past Fleury with 9:50 left in the second. Ekman-Larsson and Ribeiro got the assists. The Penguins made it one-goal game when Malkin scored his 16th of the season, from the right side of the net off a pass from James Neal. Jussi Jokinen also got an assist on the goal. George Gervin Spurs Jersey . LUCIE, Fla. WINNIPEG -- Their maiden season was an emotional and financial triumph but the Winnipeg Jets now have to make their sophomore run a little more successful on the ice. The former Atlanta Thrashers are a young team, still developing, and the front office has patience. There were no blockbuster trades last season, just a little tinkering by general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. But as they prepare for their second NHL draft, they know expectations in the soldout MTS Centre are sure to be ratcheted up, and Jets brass are also looking for improvement. "I dont think their expectations are going to be any higher than ours internally," Cheveldayoff said. "We set very, very high expectations for ourselves. Its a sport that we play for the fans. . . We would expect nothing less than expectations continue to grow each and every day." The Jets finished four points higher than the Thrashers in their last season in Atlanta but still missed the playoffs for the fifth straight season, despite a couple of runs that put them in contention. Unless they manage to trade up, the best they can do is ninth overall in Fridays first round and, while the draft is a chance to take a step in team building, the payoff wont be immediate. Mark Sheifele, last years top draft pick, saw most of his action in the Ontario Hockey League in 2011-12, although he did take a brief turn with the Jets and then their American Hockey League farm team during their playoff run. It would take a trade to have more immediate impact and up until now Cheveldayoff hasnt exactly burned up the phone lines. Was he waiting for this moment? Naturally he isnt saying, but he is sticking to the idea that you dont feast today and fast tomorrow. "We want to build for the now and for the future," he said. "If drafting a player accomplishes that or trading the pick that helps you for the now and the future, its something well look at. Trading simply for the now is something that isnt what were looking for." Theres also the free agent market come July 1, if the draft doesnt give the Jets the opportunity they need. "Were going to explore all options to continue to move this team forward," he said. League chatter always ratchets up around this time of year. "Theres been lots of conversations from various other teams and general managers on various different topics," he said. "I expect as we get closer to the actual draft day that some interesting and intriguing opportunities could present themselves and if they do, well look at them." So far, it seems the right opportunity hasnt presented itself.dddddddddddd "Right now, were preparing ourselves that were going to draft a player at our pick, but again all those things can change with one phone call." OK, then who? If it is to be a draft pick, should it be offence or defence that gets shoring up? Are the Jets happy with their No. 1 goaltender and is he happy with them? Odrej Pavelec finished with a .906 save percentage in 68 games but there has also been talk hes looking at a possible KHL job in Europe, playing a lot closer to home in the Czech Republic. There has been talk 30-goal-scorer Evander Kane may be looking for a new home. "I really dont comment much on negotiations that are ongoing," Cheveldayoff said of talks with any of his restricted or unrestricted free agents. So, even with no holes to plug, Cheveldayoff has said hed like another top-six forward and probably a little help on defence as well, to add more size to the mix. On centre they could use some size. At six foot six and 245 pounds, Nik Antropov is the only really big centre they have. Its easy to see a lot of players who would fit the bill, but how many will be left when it comes to ninth pick. Mikhail Grigorenko of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League certainly fits at 6-4 and over 200 pounds, but hes also expected to go a lot higher than ninth. In his first season with the Quebec Remparts, he led QMJHL rookies with 45 goals and 85 points and finished third in the league with eight game-winning goals. Not ranked quite as high but of similar size is Radek Faksa out of the Ontario Hockey League. Faksa led OHL rookies with his 29 goals, 37 assists and 66 points during 2011-12 season. OHL prospect Brendan Gaunce might still be around. At 6-2 and 215 pounds, he already has more bulk than most of Winnipegs centremen and at 18 hes still growing. He performed well with the Canadian under-18 junior team that won gold at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament. But if a scoring touch is what other teams are seeking as well, the Jets might have more luck with blue-liners like 6-4 Griffin Reinhart out of the Western Hockey League. The son of former NHL defenceman Paul Reinhart has the kind of hockey pedigree that might appeal to the Jets. Hes a little smaller but fellow WHL defenceman Mathew Dumba, at an even six feet and 185 pounds, also led all defencemen in the league last season in scoring with his 20 goals for the Red Deer Rebels. "The list has many different variations," said Cheveldayoff. wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

In his first season with the Quebec Remparts

NOTES: Pittsburgh is 11-4-1 against the Western Conference. ... The Penguins are 10-13-1 when their opponent scores first. ... Pittsburghs Olli Maatta left the ice after taking a puck to the face in the third period. ... The only other Pacific Division team to beat Pittsburgh was Edmonton 4-3 in OT on Jan. 10. ... Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames have assigned veteran left wing Niklas Hagman to their American Hockey League affiliate in Abbotsford. Hagman went unclaimed after being placed on waivers Thursday to make room on the 23-man active roster for Mikael Backlund, who missed the clubs first 14 games with a broken finger. In eight games for the Flames this season, Hagman has notched a goal and three assists. The 31-year-old Finn had 11 goals and 16 assists in 71 games last season for Calgary. Hagman has played in 106 games for the Flames since being acquired in a January 31, 2010 trade with Toronto. He has 139 goals and 282 points in 707 NHL games for Florida, Dallas, Toronto and Calgary. Fittingly, perhaps, the name was apparently coined by none other than Roger Federer, in a tweet of support for his friend which quickly caught on earlier in the tournament.(SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of teams near the bottom of the NHL standings will meet Saturday afternoon in the City of Brotherly Love when the Philadelphia Flyers welcome the Edmonton Oilers to the Wells Fargo Center. Philadelphia is ranked 29th out of 30 NHL teams with just nine points this season on a 4-10-1 record. Edmonton has 10 points, but, at 4-11-2, the Oilers have played two more games than the Flyers. This is Edmontons first game in Philadelphia in over two years. The Oilers last visited the Wells Fargo Center on March 8, 2011 and dropped a 4-1 decision to halt a four-game road winning streak in this series. Edmonton is 7-1-0 with a tie in the past nine overall meetings against the Flyers. While in Philadelphia, Edmonton announced the signing of former Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, whose tumultuous tenure in the City of Brotherly Love ended this summer with a massive buyout. Bryzgalov, who has yet to play this season in the NHL, agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Oilers on Friday. According to reports, the 33-year-old Russian will spend time with the Oilers AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City for conditioning before joining the big club. Bryzgalov joined the Flyers in the summer of 2011, signing an 8-year, $51 million deal. However, perceptions of inconsistent play along with off-ice and locker-room behavior issues contributed to the buyout -- one which saved the current basement dwellers in the Metropolitan Division an estimated $6 million on the salary cap for the remaining six years of the deal. "We get a goaltender that has a history of being a high performer in parts of his career, and we get a guy thats very motivated and hes going to have a chance to be a good goalie," said Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish. Edmonton starting goaltender Devan Dubnyk has struggled to a 3-6-1 record, 3.80 GAA and .878 save percentage this season. Backups Richard Bachman and Jason LaBarbera have combined to go 1-5-1 in their nine appearances. The Flyers enter Saturday having lost two straight and four of their last five games. Philadelphia has scored a total of four goals over that five-game stretch and is dead last in the NHL with an average of 1.47 goals per game this season. Philadelphias most recent setback, a 3-0 home loss Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils, prompted a playerrs-only meeting to be called by team captain Claude Giroux, who is still without a goal in 15 games this season.dddddddddddd "Well, were definitely frustrated, but the bright side is we have a good group," said Flyers goaltender Ray Emery after Thursdays loss. "We have a lot of guys who really enjoy playing together." Emery was outdueled Thursday by Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur, who posted a 22-save shutout against the punchless Flyers. Adam Henrique, Cam Janssen and former Philadelphia forward Jaromir Jagr each scored a goal for New Jersey. The Devils had been shut out in their previous two games, including a 1-0 defeat to the Flyers last Saturday. Emery, who had blanked the Devils on Saturday, stopped 22 shots for the Flyers in Thursdays setback. Philadelphia went 0-for-3 on the power play against the Devils and has scored just once on 17 chances with the man advantage over the last four games. The Flyers are ranked 27th in the league with a 10-percent success rate on the power play this season. "On a consistent, nightly basis you have to outwork the penalty killing of the other team and you have to create momentum for your team, and they did not do that tonight," said Flyers head coach Craig Berube. Edmonton enters Saturday as the bottom team in the Western Conference standings and has dropped six of its last seven games. The Oilers, who are making the third stop on a four-game road trip this afternoon, last played on Thursday in Tampa and lost a 4-2 decision to the Lightning. Steven Stamkos victimized Edmonton for two goals, as the Oilers fell to 3-6-2 as the visiting team this season. "We made three mistakes tonight and two of them went to the wrong player," Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins said, referring to Stamkos. Edmonton did manage to fire 40 shots on net Thursday, but Ben Bishop turned aside 38 of those attempts to frustrate the Oilers offense time and again. "Its one of those nights where I loved the way we played. We played with passion," Eakins added. Taylor Hall returned from a knee injury to register one of Edmontons two tallies, with Taylor Fedun accounting for the other. Dubnyk stopped 22- of-25 shots in the loss. The Oilers are set to close their four-game swing Sunday in Chicago. wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
