LATINA, Italy -- Cesena beat Latina 2-1 on Wednesday to earn promotion to the top flight of Italian football, winning 4-2 on aggregate. Zach Parise Team USA Hockey Jersey . Cesena will join Serie B champion Palermo and Empoli in the top tier next season. Alessandro Bruno gave Latina hope when he scored in the 13th minute to level the aggregate score -- after Cesena had won the first leg of the playoff final 2-1. But Gregoire Defrel equalized nine minutes after halftime and Emmanuel Cascione drove home a stoppage-time penalty to secure matters after Karim Laribi fouled Guido Marilungo. Cesena has spent the past two seasons in Italys second division following relegation from Serie A in 2012. It finished fourth in Serie B this year, two points behind Latina. Cesena beat Modena 2-1 on aggregate in the semifinals. Brian Rafalski Jersey . Russell Wilson against Darrelle Revis, former teammate Brandon Browner and whatever schemes Bill Belichick dreams up. Zach Parise Jersey . Plata blasted a rising shot to the upper left corner for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. He got the kick after referee Allen Chapman ruled Chris Tierney fouled John Stertzer in the penalty area. http://www.hockeyauthenticusaonline.us/Ryan-Kesler-Jersey/ .C. -- With a chance to start over and maybe drive in any series he wanted, Juan Pablo Montoya thought long and hard about what mattered most at this stage of his career.PHOENIX - Marcell Ozuna hit a two-out, two-run home run off Addison Reed in the ninth inning to spoil a brilliant Arizona debut by Vidal Nuno and give the Miami Marlins a 2-1 victory over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. Ozuna hit Reeds 2-2 pitch off the batters eye far above the 407-foot sign in straightaway centre. It was the fifth blown save in 25 tries for Reed (1-5) and the ninth home run the closer has allowed in 38 appearances. Nuno, acquired in the deal that sent Brandon McCarthy to the New York Yankees, gave up three hits, struck out a career-high seven and walked one in seven innings. He scored Arizonas only run. Mike Dunn (7-4) pitched one-third of an inning to get the victory. Steve Cishek pitched a perfect ninth for his 20th save in 22 opportunities. Miamis Brad Hand allowed an unearned run and eight hits in 6 1-3 innings but failed to win as a starter for the 14th consecutive time, the third-longest active streak in the majors. Hands last victory as a starter came almost three years ago to the day, on July 7, 2011, against Houston. After Brad Ziegler pitched a scoreless eighth, Reed came on and walked Ed Lucas to start the ninth. Giancarlo Stanton struck out and Casey McGehee lined out to centre to bring up Ozuna for his game-winning heroics. The game ended when Paul Goldschmidt, the NLs starting first baseman in the All-Star Game, flied out to deep right. The Diamondbacks were 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base. Derek Stepan Team USA Hockey Jersey. The only Miami player to reach second against Nuno was Ozuna when he doubled with two outs in the fourth. Nuno reached when McGehee muffed a grounder, the third basemans second error and one of four by Miami. Ender Inciartis bunt single past the mound put runners at first and second with no outs. Aaron Hill followed with an RBI single. Goldschmidt grounded into a double play and, after Martin Prado walked, Cody Ross grounded out to strand the runner at third. The Diamondbacks stranded runners at second and third in the first, second and sixth innings. In the second, Nuno — not accustomed to batting because hes been in the AL — laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. But Inciarti grounded sharply to short to end the threat. Another nice sacrifice bunt by Nuno moved runners to second and third with two outs in the sixth. NOTES: Goldschmidt hit his major league-leading 34th double. ... Arizona OF Mark Trumbo, who hit a grand slam in his rehab appearance with Triple-A Reno on Monday night, is expected to join the Diamondbacks after the All-Star break. Hes been out since April 22 with a left foot stress fracture. ... The Boston Bruins are still working on a new contract for pending free agent Jarome Iginla, but are prepared for the possibility that hell go elsewhere come July 1. Travis Hamonic Islanders Jersey . Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli held court with reporters on Friday before the NHL draft, saying the front office is still talking to Iginla about returning next season. "Jarome wants to stay and were trying to find a spot for him," he said. "Were both big boys. If we cant, we cant, but certainly were both trying to work at it." Several reports have indicated that the Bruins are up against the cap for next season and have had difficulty trying to fit a deal for Iginla under the ceiling for next season. Iginla signed a one-year contract with the Bruins last July 1 worth $1.8 million, reaching $6 million with performance bonuses. In 78 games with the Bruins, he scored 30 goals and added 31 assists with a plus-34 rating. In 1,310 career games with the Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins and Bruins, Iginla has 560 goals and 607 assists for 1167 points. Mathew Barzal Jersey . According to Yahoo! AKRON, Ohio -- Tiger Woods was stricken with more back pain Sunday and withdrew after eight holes at the Bridgestone Invitational. Damon Severson Devils Jersey . He struggled to even take off his golf shoes before being driven away to an uncertain future. In his third tournament since returning from back surgery, this had the look of a serious setback. Woods injured himself playing a shot from edge of a bunker on the par-5 second hole. With all weight on his right leg, he took an awkward slash at the ball, fell back toward the sand and landed with a thud, and kept jogging out of the bunker from sheer momentum of the steep drop. "I just jarred it, and its been spasming ever since," Woods told a PGA Tour official before leaving. Woods kept playing, hitting a number of shockingly bad shots. He hit one into the water from the fairway on No. 3, coming up some 30 yards short of the flag. And on the par-3 fifth hole, his tee shot was 65 yards short of the hole. From a bunker left of the seventh green, he blasted out and back into the fairway and made double bogey. He grimaced at impact when he hit a 315-yard drive into the left rough on No. 9. Woods slowly stooped over with his right hand on his leg, reached toward his back and slowly bent down to remove the tee from the ground. Moments later, he stepped into a cart and headed for the parking lot. At his car, Woods could barely switch out of his golf shoes. His caddie, Joe La Cava, drove him away. "Its just the whole lower back," Woods said. "I dont know what happened." Masters champion Bubba Watson said he didnt see Woods hit the shot that hurt him on No. 2, though he could tell as the round went on that something wasnt right. "He hit some shots that were not used to seeing Tiger hit, even when hes coming back from an injury like this," Watson said. "So obviously, something was bothering him. ... Like I told him when I shook his hand, I said, Im praying for you. Hope everything turns out good. Hope to see you next week." With the pain he showed leaving the course -- and just four months removed from back surgery -- it would seem unlikely that Woods plays next week at Valhalla, where he won the PGA Championship in 2000. Woods is scheduled to play the opening two rounds with Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington. Mickelson was on the 11th hole -- not far away from No. 9 -- when he noticed Woods leaving. "It didnt look good. It looked like he was really in pain," Mickelson said. "I hope hes OK. I hope hes able to play next week. I hope its a muscle and nothing serious because Im really looking forward to playing with him. We rarely get paired together. If we do, its been early Saturday. "As much as I love playing with him, playing against him, trying to beat him, we all want him in the field. We all want him back. I just hope hes OK." If Woods does not play in the PGA Championship, that would be the end of his season. He would have to win the PGA to be eligible for the FedEx Cup playoffs. In six starts on the PGA Tour this year, Woods finished all four rounds only twice. Woods had back surgery March 31 to alleviate an impinged nerve, forcing him to miss the Masters for the first time and the U.S. Open. He returned after three months to Congressional -- three weeks ahead of his own schedule -- and reported no pain in missing the cut by four shots at the Quicken Loans National. He also reported no pain in four rounds at the British Open. He finished 69th, 23 shots out of the lead, his worst 72-hole result in a major. Woods was 3-over par for his round -- and 18 shots off the lead -- when he withdrew at Firestone. He did not say whether he would be able to play the PGA Championship next week -- "Just trying to get out of here," he told the tour official -- though this surely would make it difficult for Tom Watson to consider Woods as a captains pick for the Ryder Cup. The U.S. captain has said for the last few months that he wanted Woods on the team if he was healthy and playing well. Woods was doing neither. Even so, he had not suggested until the shot on the second hole that his back was bothering him. "Hey, this is supposed to be my second tournament back, not my third," Woods said after Fridays round at Firestone. "Everything is going pretty good. Ive gotten a little bit better, and the good news is Im still getting stronger." This was the second time this year Woods had to withdraw in the middle of the final round. At the Honda Classic in March, he stopped after 13 holes. Woods chose to play the next week at Doral, and his back problems showed up Sunday after an awkward stance for a shot out of the bunker. Woods said it was his physical training over the years and his discipline in following doctors orders following microdiscectomy surgery that allowed him to recover quickly. He has gone through four operations on his left knee over the last 20 years, and said the back injury was "way more debilitating than I thought." "Most of the people I talked to who have had the procedure have no idea how Im even back here playing," Woods said at the start of the week. "They just cant understand that. When you have great protocols and you do everything perfectly, everything fell into place. I was able to get back. But now its just continuing, and I still need to get much strong than I am now, and I still need to get much more explosive than I am now. Thats just time." Adam Henrique Jersey . The right-hander said he threw about 30 pitches in a routine bullpen session Sunday at Yankee Stadium, his final hurdle before starting Tuesday night at Tampa Bay. Keith Kinkaid Jersey . "If we could score a six in every game, obviously I would be pretty excited," Jones said. "Its a long week but a short week. Its a pretty short round robin from what were used to so you dont want to get behind the eight ball early. http://www.hockeydevilsstore.us/Jacob-Josefson-Jersey/ . SUN CITY, South Africa - Ernie Els is considering cutting his golf schedule even more to spend time with his family, saying life on the road after 25 seasons as a pro is getting "tougher and tougher. Raekwon McMillan Jersey ." The four-time major winner has already slowed down over the past few years, playing 19 tournaments on the PGA Tour and only seven European Tour events last season. The 44-year-old Els expects to trim that again, he said at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, his first tournament in a month. The South African, who turned professional in 1989, said that with his daughter Samantha now 14 and son Ben now 11 "there are other things that come into play." "Its always been difficult leaving the house, but now you really see your kids growing up and it gets more difficult," Els said. He almost skipped the Nedbank to stay on vacation with his family, and had to send Samantha back home to Florida on her own for school while he set off in search of a fourth title at Sun City. "I feel a little bit guilty about that," he said. Els is recognizing the trend with a couple of other players on tour. "Family life is important and you dont want to miss out on their best years before they leave the house," he said. "A lot of us are in that boat now. Phil (Mickelson) has kids the same age as mine, so does (Steve) Stricker. Guys get to my age and your kids get to teenage years and it becomes a bit of a difficult scenario. Its getting tougher and tougher. The younger guys dont have too many hassles travelling ... but things change. "I havent really got a game plan for next year yet, but I definitely have to play a slightly different schedule. Ive got to look at my schedule and see where Im going to." One thing that will remain is his commitment to trying to win another major — maybe two. His British Open title in 2012, a decade after his first Claret Jug, bolstered Els hopes of another big win before he eases off completely. "Im 44 and with the equipment I can really stay with the longer hitters," Els said. "I feel I have a chance. I just need to sharpen up some things, get the right venue and get the right mojo. Then I think we can pull something off again. Its not going to be easy, but I believe there are one or two left, so Ill keep searching." Raekwon McMillan Womens Jersey . When New Zealand finally held on for an 8-7 win, France No. 8 Imanol Harinordoquy collapsed to the ground, having given every drop of energy he could muster, and lay prone as All Blacks danced around him in celebration. Few critics had given France any chance, but coach Marc Lievremonts team rallied from 8-0 down and came within one kick of taking the lead with 15 minutes remaining, only for flyhalf Francois Trinh-Ducs 49-meter effort to drift wide. Cordrea Tankersley Dolphins Jersey . Martin Reway and David Griger both recorded four points with a goal and three assists each. Mario Lunter, Daniel Gachulinec and Stanislav Horansky also scored for Slovakia (1-0). Dominik Kahun had both goals for Germany (0-2), who lost its opening match to Canada 7-2 on Thursday. http://www.jerseyshoptheofficialdolphins.com/Elite-Cordrea-Tankersley-Dolphins-Jersey/ ." Argos general manager Jim Barker uttered those words during an interview with TSN 1050 radio just prior to the CFLs annual free agent frenzy.PHOENIX -- Tommy Medica hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the eighth inning, Eric Stults pitched six effective innings and the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 on Tuesday night. Stults was sharp early before giving up a couple of runs that allowed Arizona to tie the game at 3-all. Medica had a run-scoring single in San Diegos three-run third inning and lined a solo homer to left off Evan Marshall (2-1) in the eighth to put the Padres back up. Kevin Quackenbush (1-1) pitched 1 2-3 innings for his first win in the majors after giving up a walkoff homer the night before and Huston Street worked a perfect ninth for his 15th straight save. Wade Miley had a career-high 11 strikeouts in seven innings and Martin Prado homered for Arizona. Stults had a rough go of it his last outing, failing to get out of the fourth inning after giving up five runs and six hits in a loss to the Chicago Cubs. The left-hander had the Diamondbacks guessing through the early innings Tuesday night, keeping them off-balance with a big-breaking curveball that dipped into the 60s with an upper 80s fastball. Prado, who has battled knee problems this season, got a pitch he liked in the second inning, sending a towering solo homer over the wall left, his first in 210 at-bats, dating to last season. Miguel Montero hit a run-scoring double in the sixth inning and Stults was lifted after Cliff Pennington led off the seventh with a double on a ball right fielder Chris Denorfia appeared to losse in the lights. Raekwon McMillan Dolphins Jersey. Gerardo Parra tied the game at 3-all by lining a run-scoring single to left off Alex Torres. Stults allowed three runs and six hits and walked four -- one intentional. Miley had a solid outing his last time out, allowing three runs in seven innings in a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. The left-hander spotted his fastball well and had the Padres swinging and missing -- except in the third inning. Everth Cabrera lined a one-out single to start the inning, then Denorfia, Chase Headley and Medica followed with run-scoring singles, putting San Diego up 3-1. Miley was good after that, ringing up three more strikeouts on called third strikes to become the first Arizona left-hander with at least 11 strikeouts since Randy Johnson on Aug. 22, 2008, against Florida. Miley allowed three runs and eight hits. NOTES: Diamondbacks LF Mark Trumbo is expected to hit in the batting cage on Wednesday, a first since he went on the DL with a stress fracture in his left foot on April 24. ...Padres C Yasmani Grandal left the game in the seventh inning after being hit on the back of his glove hand by Paul Goldschmidts bat. He was called for catchers interference on the play. ... Arizona RHP Chase Anderson will start in the series finale on Wednesday after his previous outing was cut short to three innings due to rain. RHP Tim Stauffer will pitch for the Padres after making his first start in the majors since 2012 last Friday. Townsend was speaking to Sky Sports News HQ at a screening of the new short film WONDERKID on Monday night. The film, directed by Rhys Chapman, depicts a rising star breaking into the professional game who expresses his talent on the pitch, but finds life difficult off it due to other peoples attitudes about his sexuality. Players need a positive environment, according to Troy Townsend Last month, Football Association chairman Greg Clarke told a Culture, Media and Sport select committee of MPs that football still needs to create a safe space free from abuse and that he felt personally ashamed that no current players had come out.Clarke told the committee he would not recommend that a footballer come out as gay at the moment, adding they would be taking a risk of vile abuse and could not yet be offered the required protection.Townsend acknowledges the intense scrutiny on footballers and says for any player who might consider coming out, the response of their team-mates, friends and family are crucial. WONDERKID is about a young player struggling with attitudes towards his sexuality Footballers crave adulation, said Townsend. They crave people shouting their name for the positive reasons... we need to make sure that the environment that they work in every single day doesnt change just because they want to tell people who they are. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Ryan Moore closed with his second straight 5-under 67 on Sunday and that helped him repeat as champion at the CIMB Classic. Reuben Foster Youth Jersey . Moore finished at 17-under-par 271. The victory was his fourth on the PGA Tour, and first since he won this event last year. He became the first player to successfully defend a title on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2012 and 2013. Its has been a great week. Im a little at a loss for words to defend my title. It is something I have never done before, Moore said. It makes it that much more special to do it the way I did. I hit some great shots coming down the stretch and made some birdies when I really needed to. I just scraped in a par there at the last hole. I knew I didnt need it, but its still fun to finish that way. Kevin Na shared the third-round lead with Moore, but Na posted a 2-under 70 at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club and he dropped into a share of second at minus-14. Na was joined there by Gary Woodland (67) and Sergio Garcia (69). Woodland lost to Moore in a playoff last year at this event. Cameron Smith (6 and Sang-Moon Bae (69) tied for fifth place at 12-under-par 276. John Senden carded a 4-under 68 in the final round and he grabbed seventh place at 11-under 277. Davis Love III shot 68 in the final round and he ended in a tie for eighth at minus-10. He finished alongside Rory Sabbatini (66), Angelo Que (70), Prom Meesawat (69) and Billy Hurley III (73). Moore and Na battled throughout the round. Na opened with a birdie at the first to move one ahead, but Moore answered with a birdie at the second. Na got up and down for birdie on the par-5 third and followed with another birdie at the fourth to move two clear at 15-under. Moore inched within one as he birdied the fifth. However, Moore gave that shot right back as he bogeyed No. 6. Moore atoned for that mistake with a 5-foot birdie effort at the seventh. Moore briefly joined Na in the lead as he birdied the ninth from eight feet out. Na also birdied No. 9, from about four feet out, to get to 16-under. Moore played his third at the par-5 10th to four feet and he rolled that putt in for birdie and a share of the lead alongside Na. Moore stumbled to a bogey at the 12th and Na followed with a bogey at 13. It was all Moore from there. At the short 14th, Moore played an iron off the tee before stuffing his second shot to a foot. He made birdie to move ahead by one as Na failed to get up and down for birdie after his drive rolled just over the green. Moore converted a 7-footer for birdie at the 15th to move two clear. He failed to save par from a greenside bunker, but was still ahead by one. The 17th proved to be the deciding factor. Na pushed his tee shot right of the fairway and his ball was never found. The lost ball led to a double-bogey, which dropped him four back as Moore kicked in a short birdie try. Moore got up and down for par at the last to seal the win. Last year was a lot more stressful. I had to get up and down from 65 yards just to get into a playoff last year, Moore explained. But I made it a little too interesting there. I hit a few squirrelly shots (down the stretch on Sunday). Na closed with a birdie to share second. Garcia, who played in the final group with Moore and Na, had three birdies on the front nine and was two off the lead at the turn. But, his tee shot at the par-5 10th hit a cart path and was never found. That led to a double-bogey, which dropped him four behind. Garcia bounced back with a birdie at 11 and he made another at 14 to get back to minus-14. He closed with four pars in a row to end there. Woodland also had three birdies on the front nine. He had three more in the first six holes of the back nine. His birdie at 15 briefly gave him a piece of the lead, but Woodland parred the next two holes before closing with a bogey at the last to finish three behind. NOTES: Moore collected $1.26 million for the win ... Moore has won three of the six times he had at least a share of the 54-hole lead ... Love posted his first top-10 finish since the 2012 McGladrey Classic ... There are a pair of events next week for the PGA Tour. The top players will be in China for the WGC-HSBC Champions, where Dustin Johnson won last year, but he will not defend his title, while the remainder of the tour will be in Mississippi for the Sanderson Farms Championship, which Woody Austin won the last time the event was held in 2013. But whats behind his prolific form? We examine the statistics ahead of their Super Sunday clash with Middlesbrough. This time last year, Eden Hazard was in the middle of the toughest period of his career. The Belgium international had been named PFA Player of the Year after inspiring Chelseas title triumph a few months earlier, but he hadnt scored a single goal in 2015/16 and his performances had dipped dramatically. Mboro vs Chelsea November 20, 2016, 3:30pm Live on Get Sky Sports Get a Sky Sports pass Chelseas title defence was in tatters, and Jose Mourinho was unimpressed by the contribution of a player he had compared to Cristiano Ronaldo that summer. The Chelsea boss wasnt alone in his frustration. You have to question Hazards mentality, said Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville. I think hes a good boy but is he a killer? Is he really selfish like Messi and Ronaldo? Hazard eventually went 355 days without scoring a Premier League goal. Mourinho was long gone by the time he ended the drought in a 4-1 win over Bournemouth in April, but it is only this season that the 25-year-old has finally discovered the selfish streak he needed to take him to the next level. Chelseas Eden Hazard celebrates after scoring against Everton So far, Hazard has scored seven goals in 11 Premier League games, with five of them coming in his last five appearances. It is his best scoring run since joining Chelsea. Only Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa have netted more, and Hazard is already halfway to matching his highest total for a single Premier League campaign. Hazard has already taken more shots than in the whole of last season. He is shooting once every 34 minutes on average - far more regularly than in previous years - and his shooting accuracy of 63 per cent is also at its highest.Antonio Conte has changed the emphasis. Hazard no longer has the same creative responsibilities, and rather than seeking out a team-mate, he is encouraged to go for goal himself at every opportunity. Marcos Alonsos overlapping runs on the left flank have freed him up to move into goalscoring positions, and his defensive responsibilities have also been reduced. In fact, Hazards average position has been even more advanced than Costas in four of the last five games. Chelseas average positions in their 3-0 win over Leicester show Hazard (10) stationed ahead of Diego Costa (19) Hazard is unshackled, and the freedom to play higher up the pitch is helping him flourish. In this moment, he is putting his talent and himself in the team, said Conte recently. This is fantastic and the right way to become one of the best in the world. But while Hazard is spending less time defending, thats not to say his work-rate has dropped. Premier League tracking data shows he is covering an average of 9.5km per game compared to 8.4km last year, and his sprints per game have risen from 48.8 to 62.5. Hazard is more dynamic with and without the ball in Contes pressing system. I know the great talent of Eden and he must continue to work and to improve all the time, added Conte. It is important in this type of modern football that you have the talent and technique. You must run with intensity and the strength. Here in England, we play with an intensity that is supersonic.Hazard seemed to lose his way last season, but hes thriving in a changed environment. His new focus on finding the net is helping him hit new heights, and his past struggles are fast becoming a distant memory. So is Hazard a killer like Messi and Ronaldo? NEW YORK -- The NBA Development League will begin assessing technical fouls for flops, a new rule that goes further than the NBA one by punishing the act during a game. Mikhail Grigorenko Avalanche Jersey . The NBA began to issue punishments last season for flopping, the art of exaggerating contact to deceive referees into calling a foul, but only retroactively. If a player is determined to have flopped after a postgame review, he is given a warning for the first offence and a $5,000 fine for the second. Under the NBA D-League system that begins Thursday and runs through the end of the season, referees will note when they believe a flop occurred, then confirm it via instant replay at the next timeout or quarter break. If confirmed, the free throw will be shot at that time. Gabriel Landeskog Jersey . Completely. Two days after releasing Peyton Manning, the longtime face of the franchise, the Colts announced they were cutting four fan favourites: running back Joseph Addai, linebacker Gary Brackett, safety Melvin Bullitt and tight end Dallas Clark. Mikko Rantanen Avalanche Jersey . Spencer Abbott and Trevor Smith scored third-period goals erasing a 2-1 deficit giving Toronto a late 3-2 lead. http://www.hockeyavalancheproshop.com/joe-colborne-jersey/ . CSKA received the heavier punishment of playing its next European home game behind closed doors, after its supporters displayed racist and far-right symbols in the Czech Republic during a 2-1 loss to Viktoria Plzen on Dec.SOCHI, Russia – Leo Komarovs KHL club had one flight this season of the marathon variety, precisely the kind of tiresome experience that has the former Leaf winger reconsidering his career status. “It took us 12 hours or something,” he said of the near 10,000 kilometre flight from Moscow to Vladivostok, quick to mention the one stop required to refuel along the way. It may not be in Toronto, but Komarov seems to have his sights set on a return to the NHL next season. The 27-year-old had his first (and long-desired) taste of the league in 2013 – calling it “probably the best time of my life” – before returning to Dynamo of the KHL last summer for reasons both financial and otherwise. “I want to get back,” Komarov said of the NHL. “Its a big goal for me for next season. [But] Im going to see how its going to work out. Dynamo is playing pretty good right now so its like everything is good there too, but I really enjoyed it in Toronto. It was really good.” Komarov played in 42 games with the Leafs and was the pesky, agitating force the organization hoped hed become when they drafted him in the sixth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. But with the lure of a hefty one-year contract in Moscow and more opportunity ahead of the Olympics this winter, Komarov chose to leave Toronto after just one season. “No hard feelings against Toronto,” he said. “I really enjoyed it. Everything was good, but Dynamo gave me a really good offer.” More money than a cap-strapped Leafs brass was prepared or even able to pay this past summer. But just as important as the dollars gained by returning to Russia was the chance to play big minutes with a powerhouse squad in Dynamo. And with keen hopes of representing Finland for the first time on the Olympic stage here in Sochi, Komarov wanted to ensure his best was on display as often as possible. “I need to play a lot to make this team for Olympics and I knew Im going to get a lot of ice-time in Dynamo,” said Komarov followwing practice with a trimmed down Finnish Olympic squad, NHL players yet to arrive on this day. Erik Johnson Avalanche Jersey. . “You go in the NHL and play on the fourth line – five, six minutes – its hard. I wanted to make 100 per cent sure that Im going to make the team. “Maybe the contract situation was a little bit [a reason] too. It was a hard decision, like I want to play in NHL, but what happened happened.” Though he is quite at home in the KHL, where hes played for four seasons now, Komarov certainly enjoyed the upgrade in lifestyle associated with the NHL. From the lavish hotels to comfortable charter planes to do-it-all training staffs to visits in New York, Montreal and Boston, the NHL just has more to offer than the league in Russia, up-and-coming as it is. “Its like the best thing that can happen to a hockey player to be there,” said Komarov of playing in the NHL, remaining in touch with current Leafs Phil Kessel, Frazer McLaren, Tyler Bozak and Nikolai Kulemin. “Its so nice.” Toronto was also a more desirable resting place for his Finnish girlfriend. Unlike Komarov, who speaks four languages including Russian, Swedish and Finnish, his better half has nothing to fall back on as far as communication is concerned, this in a place where English is rarely spoken or understood. “She liked Toronto really much, did whatever she wanted by herself there, but in Moscow she always needs me around,” said Komarov, noting the challenge of simply traveling around the city without knowing the Russian language. An unrestricted free agent this summer, Komarov is open to returning to the Leafs and the city of Toronto, but he appears more focused on simply getting back into the NHL however possible. Yet to receive any offers he remains hopeful about his prospects with a fallback plan of good money and opportunity in the KHL. “Theyve got good money in KHL, but its not all about the money either,” he said. “NHL is the best league you can play in.” Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

The Toronto Blue Jays general manager made a series of bold moves that reshaped the club ahead of what would turn out to be a disastrous 2013 campaign.HOUSTON -- LaMarcus Aldridges son JJ, who turned 5 on Wednesday, texted him after the Portland Trail Blazers playoff win and told him he looked like Spider-Man on one of his dunks. To the Houston Rockets the Portland star probably looked like a superhero on more than just that one play. Aldridge continued his dominance against the Rockets, scoring 43 points to lift the Trail Blazers to a 112-105 victory and a 2-0 lead in the first-round playoff series. Aldridge has made the most of the return to his home state and put the Trail Blazers in control heading home for Game 3 in Portland on Friday. The former University of Texas star who grew up in Dallas laughed heartily and said maybe when asked if hed rather stay in the Lone Star state after the way hes played in the first two games. "(Leading) 2-0 going home feels great, but its not over," he said. "Were going to stay hungry, stay humble and go home and try to duplicate the same (success)." Aldridge became the first player with consecutive games of 43 points games in the playoffs since Tracy McGrady did it in April 2003 after scoring a career-high and franchise playoff-record 46 in an overtime win in Game 1. Hes also the first player Trail Blazers history to have two 40-point games in the post-season and his 89 points in a teams first two playoff games trail only Michael Jordan (1986, 198 and Jerry West (1965) in the last 50 years. Hes helped the Trail Blazers win two road games to start a playoff series for just the second time in franchise history and the first since they took the first two against the Lakers in the 1977 Western Conference Finals. Damian Lillard made six free throws down the stretch to help out in the win. But the guard gave all the credit for the win to Aldridge. "What can they do to stop him? He was great once again, just like Game 1," Lillard said. "When a lot of guys couldnt get going and couldnt hit shots, he just carried us. He played like an MVP again." The Rockets spent the last two days of practice focused on how to slow Aldridge down, but nothing they did seemed to faze the 6-foot-11 player. "We tried changing it up tonight," Houston coach Kevin McHale said. "Tonight, he was picking and popping and moving and we were having trouble running people at him. We were trying to get the ball out of his hands as much as we could." Aldridge credited coach Terry Stotts for moving him around early in the game to help evadee Houstons double-teams. Markus Naslund Canucks Jersey. "I made tough shots," Aldridge said. "I dont think too much was easy tonight. I just got in that rhythm and started making shots." James Harden knocked down a 3-pointer with about 30 seconds left to get the Rockets within 3. Lillard made two free throws before Harden fouled out about 10 seconds later. Mo Williams and Lillard both made a pair of free throws after that to secure the win. Lillard finished with 18 points. Dwight Howard was unstoppable early and scored 25 points in the first half, but managed just seven in the second half. After missing 20 shots in Game 1, Harden promised a better performance in this game. But it was much of the same as he was 6 of 19 and finished with 18 points. "We dont have our same flow, our same mojo that we had throughout the season," Harden said. "We dont have our same swag ... weve got to get that back." The Rockets trailed by nine points before a 5-0 run cut the lead to 102-98 with about a minute left. Both teams made a pair of free throws after that before Lillard found Wesley Matthews wide open for a reverse layup to make it 106-100 with 33 seconds left. A one-handed dunk by Aldridge over Omer Asik gave Portland a 96-87 lead with about five minutes left. With Aldridge on the bench to start the fourth, Houston scored the first four points of the period to cut the lead to two points, but Williams and Dorell Wright made consecutive 3s to make it 89-81 midway through the quarter. Aldridge made 10 of Portlands first 14 points of the second half to help the Trail Blazers build a 67-58 lead with about eight minutes left in the quarter. Houston scored the next nine points, with the last five from Chandler Parsons, to tie it at 67 a couple of minutes later. Portland an 83-77 led entering the fourth quarter. The Trail Blazers scored seven straight points to take a 53-51 lead late in the second quarter, but Beverleys basket at the buzzer tied it at halftime. Howard scored Houstons first 13 points and had 19 -- with five dunks -- by the end of the first quarter to help the Rockets to a 31-23 lead. NOTES: Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, who has been working with Howard this week, watched the game from a courtside seat. ... Wright finished with 15 points. ... Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork. Braydon Coburn Lightning Jersey .com) - Matt Moulson scored the lone goal of the shootout to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 5-4 win over the Ottawa Senators on Monday. Moulson, the Sabres first shooter, patiently skated up the slot and wristed a shot over Robin Lehners shoulder. Buffalo netminder Jhonas Enroth was a wall, stopping Ottawas first two shooters and the skills competition ended as Bobby Ryan rang a shot off the goalpost. Marcus Foligno and Brian Flynn each had a goal and an assist, while Rasmus Ristolainen and Moulson also lit the lamp for the Sabres, who won their fourth straight game. Enroth made 29 saves in the win. Curtis Lazar scored his first NHL goal, Alex Chiasson tallied a goal and a helper and Mark Stone and Ryan each had goal for the Senators, who were coming off a 3-2 shootout win over Boston on Saturday. Ottawa outshot Buffalo by a 4-1 margin in the extra session, but neither team was able to find the back of the net and the game went into a shootout. Mike Hoffman pushed a bouncing puck through the crease to Ryan, who tapped it in from the right side of the net for the games first goal 7:24 into the contest. Just over two minutes later, Chris Stewart whacked a puck out of the air and over the shoulder of Lehner. The goal, however, was overturned as video review determined that it was batted in with a high stick. Stewart took a pass below the goal line and found Ristolainen, who skated up to the right circle from the blue line and wristed a shot past Lehner for a tie game on the power play 4:11 into the second. The Sabres surged ahead with two goals separated by just 32 seconds. Moulson took a loose puck at the right post and deposited in to the net for a 2-1 lead seven minutes into the second period and Flynn skated up the right side and sent a pass across the slot to Foligno, who one-timed it in from the left side of the net at 7:32. The Bruins were leading the Canadiens 4-2 in the final minutes Saturday night when Subban skated past the Boston bench with the puck. Thornton squirted water at the Montreal defenceman, hitting him in the face shield. Angered, Subban approached the bench and exchanged words with Thornton. He then went to complain to the referee. "As a coach, you always want to support your players but theres certain things you cant support," Julien said Sunday. "I dont think I can support Shawn on those actions. "To me, I dont think we like seeing our players do that. Now whether he got caught up in the game or whatever, to me hes got to own up to it." TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips answers several questions each week. Minnesota Wild Jerseys . This weeks topics include the Blue Jays struggles at Yankee Stadium, what the Tampa Bay Rays should do with David Price, remembering Tony Gwynn and his pick for the best team in baseball. 1) What is it about the Blue Jays and Yankee Stadium that dont go together (15 straight losses through Wednesday)? You would think an offensive team would do well in a hitters park. In your experience, what was the toughest park to play in and why? There isnt anything wrong with the Blue Jays. They just cant seem to beat the Yankees. The Yankees have the Jays number. Baseball is such a mental game. What you think or feel impacts how you play. When one team dominates another like this it gets in the mind of the losing team. It also empowers the winning team. As each subsequent game unfolds, the losing team feels that a loss is inevitable. When something goes wrong in the game it feels like that will be the reason the team loses on that day. In contrast the winning team has a feeling of inevitability as well. They just know someone will make a play or get a big hit to win the game. The Jays have a defeatist attitude against the Yankees. Im sure they start out each game telling themselves that this will be the day they end the losing streak. But at some point a lost scoring opportunity, an error, a bloop base hit, etc causes the voices of doubt start to scream in their psyche. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I lived this nightmare when I was Mets general manager. We could not beat the Atlanta Braves, especially at Turner Field in Atlanta. It didnt matter what we did, we lost. We could get good starting pitching but their starters pitched better. We could score a bunch of runs but they would find a way to outscore us. We lost every way imaginable. We lost some games with bad first innings and some with bad ninth innings. We lost on home runs, errors, wild pitches and squeeze bunts. We would rally and look like we were coming back and then hit in to a double play to end the game. We even walked in a game-winning run in the NLCS in 1999. What makes matters worse is when the team that has your number is in your division. With the unbalanced schedule we played division rivals nineteen times each. We always finished second to the Braves mainly because we couldnt beat them head-to-head. I told Braves GM John Schuerholz and manager Bobby Cox that if I ever had to pick them out of a police line-up I would have to have them turn around because I chased them for six years and only saw their backside and never saw their faces. In fact I am convinced that the only reason we advanced to the World Series in 2000 against the Yankees was because the Braves lost in the NLDS that year to the Cardinals. Our struggles ran from one season into another season. Not even an off-season flushed out the demons. In fact, several years after I was general manager I returned to Turner Field as a baseball analyst to broadcast a game. I remember walking in the visiting clubhouse and the awful feelings of past losses at Turner Field flooded me. It was still in my head. Every team has that other team. Unfortunately for the Jays that team is the Yankees. 2) There are a lot of suggestions that the Rays should be trading David Price now. Would you do it, and what would be your expected return in a deal for Price? What team has assets that fit that wish list? The Rays must trade David Price. Small market teams have to do all they can to maximize their assets. Price is the Rays most substantial asset. They cant afford to keep him and they cant afford not to trade him. In order to continuously reinvent themselves, small market teams have to recycle their roster. It seems highly unlikely that the Rays would trade David Price withinthe AL East. It is already a very difficult division so why make it that much tougher. Certainly the Jays, Orioles, Yankees and Red Sox would all have interest in Price. But so do the Tigers, Athletics, Angels, Braves, Cardinals, Reds Giants, and Dodgers. The Rays have had success being an organization built around deep pitching and just enough offense. Unfortunately for them, this year they dont have anywhere close to enough offence. The challenge for small market teams is finding the right balance between their pitching and offence. The timing between the two is critical since they cant spend significant dollars in the free agent market to fill deficiencies. The Rays want to compete again as soon as possible so finding young major league talent instead of a bevy prospects is preferred. The team that can make the best deal with the Rays is the St. Louis Cardinals. The Rays should ask for 1B Matt Adams and RHS Michael Wacha. This would replace Prices role in the rotation and give them a big power bat for the middle of their lineup. I would expect the Cardinals to say no to including Wacha in the deal. So the Rays should then ask for RHS Shelby Miller and RHP Carlos Martinez in the deal with Adams. The Cardinals would have a rotation that would include Adam Wainwright, Wacha, Price, Lance Lynn and Jaime Garcia. Alan Craig can play first base in the absence of Adams and Oscar Tavares can play right field. The Rays would get a quality young starter in Miller, a potential impact starter/closer in Martinez and a big bat for their lineup. It will be very interesting to see where Price goes and what the deal will be. One thing for certain he will not finish the season with the Rays. 3) We lost one of the great hitters and great personalities in baseball last week. What is your fondest memory of Tony Gwynn and where does he rank among the hitters you saw play? Tony Gwynn is one of the best pure hitters that baseball has ever known. He was a student and a teacher of the game. Gwynn is one of the rare players who played for one team his entire career. He is known as Mr. Padre. He never had a contract dispute. He didnt play for the money. He could have taken advantage of the free agent market and squeezed every last dollar out of his ability. But he wasnt about money. He played for the love of the game. Interestingly Gwynn got more attention in his death than he did as a Hall of Famer. People in some ways diminished his accomplishments because he was a singles hitter. The most home runs he ever hit in a season were seventeen. He could have hit more but he chose to stay within himself and do what he did best. He punched the ball the other way. He was a contact hitter. He hit for average. Gwynn had a .338 career batting average. He led the league in hitting eight times. He was a 15-time All Star and a five-time Gold Glover. His .393 batting average in the strike-shortened 1994 season, was the closest that anyone has gotten to .400 since Ted Williams did it in 1941. The hole between the shortstop and third baseman became know as the "5.5" hole because of Gwynn. He had an uncanny knack of being able to hit any pitch anywhere in the zone through that hole. I remember an afternoon when I was GM for the Mets that I was sitting in my office and heard the crack of the bat coming from the field at 1pm. We had a 7pm game that night so I wondered who could possibly be hitting that early. I went out on the concourse and saw Tony Gwyn taking early batting practice with one of the Padres coaches. I couldnt believe it. The game was six hours away. Then after regular batting practice I saw Gwynn walking with a bucket of balls down to the batting age under the stadium. He was going to practice some more. The best pure hitter of his era was also the hardest worker. That told me all I needed to know. The other remarkable thing about Gwynn was his smile. He was the least Hall of Fame acting Hall of Famer I have ever met. He was genuine, sincere, compassionate, kind and friendly. He greeted fans and opponents and ground crew workers in exactly the same way. He wasnt too big for anyone and no one was too small for him. Baseball lost the best pure hitter of this era and one of the best ever in the game. But the bigger loss was that of the man that was Tony Gwynn. 4) Baseball is such a great sport. Everyday gives you some different feeling about your team and its chances. It is made for sports talk radio. Or maybe it made sports talk radio. Either way our team can excite us one day and disappoint us the next. One week we feel like we are going all the way and the next week our team is a bunch of bums. The season is a marathon-long roller coaster ride. It can be exhilarating or exhausting depending upon the end result. Statistics allow us to continuously grade the progress of our team and how it is performing. The numbers can be made to tell just about any story and often times suit our bias. I love the weekly power rankings that come out and show which team is ranked ahead of its competition. Each week the teams are moved up and down based upon how they performed over a seven-day time frame. Seven days in a baseball season is only a snapshot of a team and who they are. There is a saying in baseball that no team is as good as they are when playing its best or as bad as they are when they play their worst. Yet each week we come up with an ordering of the teams according to some arbitrary evaluation. This year is no different. So far in one ranking the Giants, Cardinals, As, Brewers and Tigers have all been atop the rankings at one point or another this season. This is bizarre to me because there is one team that is the best and no one else is even close. The best team in baseball by far is the Oakland As. Why? The As have outscored the opposition by 134 runs. The next closest team is the San Francisco Giants who are a +47. Isnt the idea to outscore your opponent? The As have scored the most runs in baseball. "Well isnt pitching more important?" you ask. The As have given up the least number of runs as well. Back when Billy Beane co-wrote "Moneyball" everyone focused on the need for hitters to have a good OBP. Yet, Beanes teams back then had much better pitching than they did offence. They didnt win because their hitters had a great plan at the plate, they won because their pitchers didnt give up OBP. This As team is a true "Moneyball" team through and through. They are baseballs best offensive team while also having the best pitching. Beane has been criticized because his teams never won anything. That means championships. His clubs won a ton of games and got more bang for the buck than anyone else but that doesnt seem to matter. This is their year. Here are my power rankings: Its the Oakland As and then everybody else. Charlie Coyle Wild Jersey . Azarenka needed exactly one hour in a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Austrian Yvonne Meusburger to start the night session at Laver Arena. Sharapova had a much easier time earlier in the day with cooler conditions and took full advantage in 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) win over Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, while Radwanska had to rally for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Erik Haula Wild Jersey Authentic . Despite Arsenals financial firepower, the 31-year-old midfielder was the only arrival in the January transfer window. Signed until the end of the season as injury cover, Kallstrom might not be fit until mid-March after arriving Friday at Arsenal having injured his back earlier in the week while training with Spartak Moscow. http://www.hockeywildauthority.com/jared-spurgeon-wild-jersey-c-17/ . However, the 38-year-old is in no hurry to sign with another team. "Im not in a rush. This will be my last contract, so I want to do it right," said Burris on Thursday.DENVER -- Stronger, healthier, feistier than ever. Peyton Manning capped a spunky week by getting the first disciplinary penalty of his storied career Saturday night when he was whistled for taunting in the Denver Broncos 18-17 preseason loss to the Houston Texans. Manning was mad after D.J. Swearinger hit slot receiver Wes Welker in the face on a tackle. So, after throwing a 29-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders on the next play, Manning ran up to the Texans swaggering second-year safety and gave him a piece of his mind. "He didnt invite me to dinner," Swearinger said. Welker, who has a history of head injuries, sustained a concussion, coach John Fox said afterward. "Obviously, Im concerned about Wes," Manning said. "I didnt like seeing him come out of the game with a blow to the head. He had one of those last year that kept him out for a while." Besides, Manning said, 15 yards with 5 seconds left in the half, why not? "I think if youre going to get one, thats a good time to get one," said Manning, who has never had a personal foul among his 60 career infractions in the regular season and playoffs. Manning declined to reveal what he said to Swearinger, who was also at the centre of several skirmishes during the teams three days of intense joint practices during the week. As for what Swearinger replied, "he said, Thanks, appreciate it. Good luck to you as well," Manning cracked. Swearinger swore that he didnt cross the line with a cheap shot on Welker. "I led with my shoulder. Thats the only thing I could do. Hes a short guy," Swearinger said. "There are some fine lines with hits. I could have tried to go low, but he ducked his head. ... What am I supposed to do? I made a Hall of Famer mad." Out of respect for Manning, however, Swearinger declined to reveal what the five-time MVP said other than to confirm foul language was exchanged. "That is a Hall of Fame quarterback. I respect him," Swearinger said. "But he shouldnt have done what he did." Mannings teammates wholeheartedly disagreed. "I loved it," Marvin Austin said. "Its a beautiful thing. Peytons not really a trash-talking guy." Manning, who called out his offence earlier in the week ffor a sloppy practice, and Sanders found their rhythm after an early miscue. Thomas Vanek Wild Jersey. They connected for two long touchdowns in the final 67 seconds of the first half to give Denver a 17-7 lead. Sanders, who practiced only sparingly this month because of a nagging thigh injury, was targeted eight times by Manning and caught five passes for 128 yards. Manning texted Sanders on Wednesday night telling him hed better get back in the lineup so they could work on their timing. It was evident their rhythm was off when backup cornerback A.J. Bouye intercepted a pass to Sanders early in the second quarter that led to Jonathan Grimes 1-yard run that gave Houston a 7-3 lead. Sanders took the blame, but Manning called it "a poor throw and decision by me." Sanders made up for his blunder when he zipped past Bouye and strong safety Eddie Pleasant to haul in Mannings 67-yard touchdown pass with 1:07 left in the first half. Then, he zigzagged between the same defensive backs for the 29-yard score with :05 left. "It was good to get Emmanuel out there. I had not completed a pass to Emmanuel in a game yet," Manning said. "I wanted to get some completions to him. I think you want to complete some passes to a first-year receiver in this offence going into the season opener." With all the work the teams put in together during the week, both head coaches dialed back the work they gave their starters. Texans DE J.J. Watt played just part of the first series and Denver LB Von Miller played a single series in his first game since tearing his right ACL on Dec. 22. And that was more than fans got to see of top overall draft pick Jadeveon Clowney, who sat this one out. Running back Montee Ball started for Denver 19 days after his appendectomy and had four runs and four receptions on Denvers opening drive. That series ended with Matt Praters 32-yard field goal. Houston won it when third QB Tom Savage drove the Texans 74 yards, hitting Ryan Griffin for a 31-yard TD with 59 seconds left and finding Travis Labhart for the 2-point conversion. Notes: Manning finished 21 of 27 for 243 yards. Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was 10 of 17 for 80 yards. ... Broncos CB Tony Carter (neck) came out in the second half. TORONTO -- Actor Tom Hanks has added his voice to those protesting the artificial turf surfaces that Canadian venues will use at the upcoming FIFA 2015 Womens World Cup. Alexander Nylander Sabres Jersey . "Opinion: Womens World Cup is the best Soccer of the year," Hanks tweeted to his 8.73 million followers on Friday. "Hey FIFA, they deserve real grass. Put in sod." The use of turf at all six Canadian venues for the upcoming major tournament has been a contentious issue for some players, including American stars Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan. A group of 40 international players recently sent a letter to FIFA and the Canadian Soccer Association threatening legal action, arguing that requiring women to play on artificial turf is discriminatory. The letter claims that no mens World Cup final has ever been contested on an artificial surface. FIFA president Sepp Blatter said at a news conference in Toronto earlier this month that tournaments held on turf are a reality of the future, and that the quality of todays turf is much better than the old green carpets used in the past. But in the letter, players say that even the better quality turf used today still poses a greater risk for injury than playing on a natural surface. Thats just a distraction anyway. We need to be thinking about stopping the pick-and-roll, finding a way to make shots and finding a way to finish games. If we do all those things, the wins and the standings will take care of themselves.Saturday nights 107-89 rout of the Philadelphia 76ers finished off an impressive 12-day stretch for the Pistons, who went 6-2 despite practicing only once in almost two weeks. We gave the guys three days completely off, just to keep physical fatigue from becoming too much of an issue, Van Gundy said. But theres still the mental strength you need to get yourself ready to play night after night and put forth a big effort. It is big for a young team to be able to prove to itself that it can handle a stretch like this.Kyle Singler shot 6 of 8 on 3-pointers in a 20-point performance, and Greg Monroe finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds as the Pistons won for the 11th time in 13 games and improved to 6-15 at home.Six players scored in double figures for Detroit, and Andre Drummond grabbed 15 rebounds. We played with great energy from the beginning of the game, Monroe said. We probably had 25 possessions that we wanted back tonight, and this game is too unforgiving to win when you do that. The Pistons have struggled with lowly Philadelphia recently, including a home loss this season, but ended most of the suspense on this night in the first half. Detroit hit its first five shots, including a trio of 3-pointers, and led 13-4 after 3 minutes.Nine first-half turnovers and a few missed shots at the rim let the 76ers hang around for a while, but Detroit led 31-21 at the end of the first quarter and 56-37 at halftime. The Pistons picked up 23 points off 12 Philadelphia turnovers and shot 50 per cent (8 for 16) on 3s while the 76ers went 2 of 15.The 76ers started hitting shots in the second half, cutting Detroits lead to 66-56, but the Pistons used Singlers steal and 3 to score five points in the final 5 seconds of the third. That moved the margin to 81-62, and Philadelphia never seriously threatened in the fourth.Kyle was really big tonight, teammate Brandon Jennings said. San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork. Rob Ramage Avalanche Jersey .com) - Though Peyton Manning again wasnt at his best, the Denver Broncos proved once more they can win when their star quarterback isnt putting up prolific numbers. Hindered by a bout with the flu and temporarily sidelined by a thigh injury, Manning got plenty of support from his Broncos teammates as Denver wrapped up another AFC West title with a 22-10 victory over the San Diego Chargers. Manning briefly exited the game late in the first half and produced a modest 233 yards with a touchdown, but five Connor Barth field goals and a strong defensive effort helped Denver (11-3) sew up its fourth straight division crown. Its a tough division to win, so it feels good, said Manning. All it does is guarantee you a spot in the playoffs, but at least you have a shot. The Broncos limited San Diego to 288 total yards, with the Chargers failing to mount a sustained rushing attack with top back Ryan Mathews out with an ankle injury. Philip Rivers finished 24-of-41 for 232 yards and a touchdown to Antonio Gates, but threw two late interceptions. Reliable kicker Nick Novak also missed a pair of field goal tries in a costly loss that now has San Diego (8-6) on the outside of the AFC playoff picture. The Chargers were coming off last weeks loss to New England. It was a tough two-game stretch against the best teams in the conference and were not in their company yet, said Rivers. Were just not. That doesnt mean we cant be or that I think we cant beat them. I believe we can. Demaryius Thomas also stepped up for the Broncos, recording 123 yards and a touchdown on six catches, with C.J. Anderson adding 85 rushing yards on a workmanlike 29 carries. Manning completed 14-of-20 attempts one week after he threw for a season-low 173 yards and had a streak of 51 consecutive games with a touchdown pass halted against Buffalo. The Broncos won that game, too. Manning was shaken up while blocking Chargers linebacker Donald Butler on Andersons third-and-goal run that was initially ruled a touchdown, then overturned on review. When the five-time league MVP hobbled, Broncos head coach John Fox opted for Barths 19-yard field goal that gave Denver a 9-0 lead with under two minutes to go in the half. Brock Osweiler directed Denvers next series, which ended in a quick three- and-out, as Manning received treatment in the locker room. The punt was returned 58 yards deep into Broncos territory by Eddie Royal, setting up Novaks 30-yard field goal that got San Diego on the board just before halftime. The Broncos also punted with Manning back at the controls to begin the second half, but the legendary quarterback was in vintage form on the teams next possession. After back-to-back strong runs from Anderson and Jeremy Stewart put Denver in scoring range, Manning sent an on-target back-shoulder throw in the direction of Thomas, who snared the pass and eluded Brandon Flowers for a 28-yard touchdown that extended the lead to 16-3 late in the third quarter. The touchdown came moments after Novak struck the left upright on a 37-yard field goal attempt that would have pulled the Chargers within three points. Rivers answered Manning with his best work of the day, going 5-for-5 in engineering an 11-play, 80-yard sequence he capped with a 5-yard strike to Gates that brought the Chargers back within one score with 10:13 remaining. A defensive pass interference penalty on San Diegos Shareece Wright on 3rd- and-12 extended Denvers subsequent drive, however. Manning made him pay by connecting with Emmanuel Sanders for 33 yards two plays later, leading to Barths 49-yard kick and a 19-10 Broncos advantage with under five minutes to go. Rivers was then picked off by Aqib Talib in San Diego territory, positioning Barth for his fifth field goal of the afternoon. His final pass, intended for Gates in the end zone, landed in the hands of Denvers Rahim Moore to seal the outcome at the two-minute warning. Royals long return was the highlight of an otherwise ineffective first two quarters for the Chargers offense, which mustered a mere 92 yards and four first downs. Nearly all of that total came on a 13-play first-quarter drive that came up empty when Derek Wolfe blocked Novaks 46-yard field goal try. The Broncos put up a pair of field goals prior to Novaks first failed kick, though they missed out on an opportunity for more on both occasions. After marching inside the San Diego 10 on their second possession of the day -- highlighted by Thomas 36-yard catch-and-run -- Manning couldnt connect on two throws to his No. 1 wideout from the 1-yard line and Fox settled for Barths 19-yard kick. Mannings 30-yard strike to Julius Thomas on 3rd-and-6 placed Denver back in the red zone on its next trek, but once again the Chargers held and Barth came on for a 26-yard field goal early in the second quarter. San Diego later stuffed three straight runs from Juwan Thompson and Anderson from the 1-yard line, the last play the one in which Manning was injured. Game Notes The Chargers were held to 216 total yards in last weeks 23-14 loss to New England ... The Broncos have now won four straight in San Diego and seven of the last eight matchups between the clubs ... Julius Thomas returned after missing Denvers last three games with a sprained ankle, with his 30-yard grab in the first quarter his lone catch ... Chargers wideout Keenan Allen exited the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury ... Manning surpassed 4,000 passing yards in a season for the 14th time in his career. The Vancouver Canucks could be closer to naming a general manager. http://www.hockeyleafsnhl.com/authentic-leo-komarov-maple-leafs-jersey/ . The team met with Boston Bruins assistant general manager Jim Benning on Wednesday about the vacant role. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports that Benning is considered the frontrunner for the job. Dreger also reports that some believe that Canucks president Trevor Linden is waiting until the end of the second round of the playoffs to make an appointment. Benning, a former Canucks defenceman who spent nine seasons in the league with Vancouver and the Toronto Maple Leafs, has been an assistant with the Bruins since 2006. Following his playing career that ended in 1990, he worked as a scout for the Anaheim Ducks and the Buffalo Sabres before a six-year run as the Sabres Director of Amateur Scouting starting in 1998. Benning won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011. Allowing two goals on 20 shots, Ben Scrivens was not particularly busy in net for Edmonton in its third win in its last four games. Oscar Klefbom and Anton Lander each scored their first goal of the season for the Oilers, and Lander also tallied two assists. Matt Fraser scored Edmontons first goal. He was exceptional, by far the best player on the ice, Oilers coach Todd Nelson said of Lander. Jonas Enroth stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced as Buffalo dropped its 13th game in a row. Defensemen Tyler Myers and Rasmus Ristolainen each scored and Brian Gionta picked up assists on both goals. We had our chances, Buffalo coach Ted Nolan said. Trailing 1-0 in the first, Fraser tied the game for the Oilers. He found a soft spot in the defense, and Landers pass from below the goal line set up Frasers one-timer. Just 2 1/2 minutes later, Edmonton went ahead on Klefboms goal. Lander once again set up a one-time opportunity, and Klefbom ripped this one by Enroth for the go-ahead goal. Afterr a scoreless second period, Lander provided a valuable insurance goal. http://www.hockeyleafsnhl.com/authentic-nazem-kadri-maple-leafs-jersey/. Frasers pass to Teddy Purcell sent the Oilers into the zone on a two-on-zero rush, and Enroth could not make the stop on Landers shot. It was fun to play, and it was a big win for us, said Lander. Ristolainen pulled Buffalo within one just before Enroth could leave the ice for the extra attacker. Scrivens made the initial save on the rush, but Ristolainen crashed the net from the blue line, sending both the puck and Scrivens into the cage. Buffalo only got one shot on goal in the final two minutes and failed to tie the game. Myers got the Sabres on the board just over two minutes into the game. Edmontons defense lost the blueliner sneaking into the top of the circle, and his wrist shot beat Scrivens. Game Notes Edmonton swept the season series but currently has four more points (35) than Buffalo ... The Oilers had not beaten the Sabres in Edmonton since Oct. 16, 2003 ... Buffalos Chris Stewart and Tyler Ennis each lost three-game point streaks ... Sabres defenseman Josh Gorges played in his 600th NHL game ... Edmonton improved to 10-7-1 against Eastern Conference opponents. PITTSBURGH -- The New York Islanders up-and-down, fast-paced tempo always seem to bring out the worst defensively in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Derek Rivers Youth Jersey . Fortunately, for the Penguins, captain Sidney Crosby was there, helping his team prevent a second home collapse in four weeks against the upstart Islanders. Crosby scored with 1:16 remaining on Friday to give the Penguins a 4-3 victory over the Islanders during a game that saw New York rally from a pair of two two-goal deficits for the second time in two games against Pittsburgh. "We had the lead, so they started taking chances, and we kind of got sucked into playing that style of game," Crosby said. "Instead of managing the puck, we were taking chances and throwing the puck everywhere, and when you play that game, whoever scores the last goal is going to win." Thats exactly what happened and Crosby provided the late game-winner. Crosbys 12th goal of the season was also the 250th of his career, and the Penguins captain also had an assist. Chris Kunitz had two goals and an assist, Evgeni Malkin added a goal and two assists, and James Neal had two assists. Malkins goal ended his career-high 15-game scoring drought. Penguins goalie Jeff Zatkoff, playing for the first time since Nov. 2, stopped 32 shots in his fourth NHL start. "We had a lot of chances, but that wasnt our best game," Crosby said. "We probably couldve put it away early, but they hung around." Thomas Vanek scored twice for the Islanders in his first game after missing five with an upper-body injury. Vanek has three goals and two assists with New York since being acquired from Buffalo last month. Colin McDonald also got his second of the season for New York. Kevin Poulin made 30 saves for the Islanders. He started his sixth straight game in place of injured starter Evgeni Nabokov, who is out with a groin injury. The two teams combined for six goals through two periods, but things settled down in the third. With less than 90 seconds left, Kunitz got the puck to Pascal Dupuis behind the net, and he centred it to Crosby, who got the tiebreaker for the Penguins. "It was kind of a patient third period from both teams, and there wasnt much going on," Crosby said. "A lot different from the first two periods." The Penguins won their third straight and fourth win in five games to rebound from a three-game skid. Pittsburgh also won its third straight at home -- and fifth time in six games at Consol Energy Center, where the Penguins are 10-3 while having allowed just 24 goals. Pittsburgh, tops in the Metropolitan Division, thumped rival Washington 4-0 on Wednesday night and gained a measure of revenge from a heartbreaking loss to the Islanders four weeks earlier. However, it wasnt easy for the Penguins, who werent nearly as disciplined defensively on Friday. The Islanders, tied for last in the Metropolitan Division entering Friday, lost for the seventh time in nine games, but the matchup with the division-leading Penguins brought out the best in New York, as it has done recently. Pittsburgh, which survived a six-game playoff series against the underdog Islanders last season, held third-period leads of 2-1 and 3-2 four weeks ago before New York rallied, scoring three times in the final 7:14 for a 4-3 victory. The Islanders nearly did it again, coming back from early deficits of 2-0 and 3-1 before Crosbys heroics. "We were flirting with danger and we realized that in the third," Crosby said. Malkin has been productive with 14 assists in 15 games -- 12 coming in nine November games -- but had no goals to show for it. He previously scored Oct. 17 during a 4-1 win at Philadelphia and it showed as emotion poured from Malkin, who aggressively pumped his fist and slammed his stick against the end boards after beating Poulin midway through the second period. "Its a good moment for him to get the goal," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. "Hes played some really good hockey and has done some really good things. To see the puck dribble over the line was a great moment for him." New York committed three penalties in the first 7:42 of the game, and Kunitz made the Islanders pay, staking the Penguins to a 2-0 lead with two power-play goals in 7:55. Crosby and Malkins slick tic-tac-toe passing sequence set up Kunitzs first goal 4:04 into the game. Kunitz scored his second less than four minutes later, blowing a slap shot past Poulin after taking a pass off the rush from Neal. Kunitz thought he had the natural hat trick with 1:10 left in the first period, but a high-sticking call on Malkin before the puck went in negated the goal. That allowed Vanek to trim the Penguins lead to a goal 1:46 into the second period. Malkin helped the Penguins regain the two-goal advantage less than 5 minutes later. Malkin initially passed to an open Neal on the left wing but he dished it back to the Penguins superstar, who slid a shot underneath Poulin with a defender draped on his back. Malkins goal gave the Penguins life as Pittsburgh buzzed the Islanders zone looking for more. The Islanders weathered the storm, tying the game a little more than 5 minutes later with two goals in less than 2 minutes. McDonald started the comeback, beating Zatkoff with a wrist shot to the blocker side off the rush. Vanek scored his second of the game soon after, finding a loose puck during a scrum in front after the Islanders capitalized on a Penguins turnover. "I think in the second period we had opportunities, but it was up-and-down opportunities," Bylsma said. "At that point, we were not in a game we wanted to play regardless of the score." NOTES: Penguins F Beau Bennett left the game with an injury and will be re-evaluated. ... Islanders D Andrew MacDonald and C Frans Nielsen will also be re-evaluated Saturday. ... The Penguins and Islanders meet in two weeks at the Nassau Coliseum. ... Both teams are in action Saturday, Pittsburgh visiting Montreal, while the Islanders continue a three-game road swing at Philadelphia. Deatrich Wise Jr. Womens Jersey . For the Bombers it has been a combination of things coming together at the most inappropriate moments in time. Quarterback, injuries, Canadian talent or depth and leadership are all issues. Trust me when I say being a Bomber is no fun right now in a city that embraces football the way Winnipeg does. While Buck Pierce will be getting another shot, I think Max Hall does deserve another opportunity. Derek Rivers Jersey . Since becoming a Stampeder, he has elevated his play and raised his stock around the league.EDMONTON -- Coach Mike Benevides got a sneak peek at how his team handles adversity on Friday night. Steven Shotts 38-yard field goal with just eight seconds to play was the difference as the B.C. Lions overcame a tough start to defeat the Edmonton Eskimos 14-11 in a CFL pre-season game. "We definitely had to overcome some stuff in this game," Benevides said. "We had some positive plays and some negative plays we needed to rebound from. We had a touchdown at the goal-line in the second quarter and dropped it and had another one on a corner route and didnt exactly get the throw we wanted. We were down the entire game and had to fight that adversity. It was good to see how they handled the final two minutes." Lions quarterback Travis Partridge engineered the comeback and was thrilled to be able to make a difference in his first CFL game. "It was fun," he said. "There were a lot of firsts for me. I had my first bonehead mistake with an interception, my first completion, my first rushing yards and my first TD pass. It was a blast. Even though it was a pre-season game, a win always feels good. I have a lot to learn, as do a lot of us, but it was something I can build on." The Lions finished one spot ahead of Edmonton in the Western Division last season, tied with Saskatchewan at 11-7. The Eskimos are hoping a ton of off-season changes, including bringing in Chris Jones as the new head coach, will help them improve on a disappointing 4-14 record in the 2013 season. "It was a pretty good game," Jones said. "Theres a lot of good things on that film, unfortunately we ended up coming out on the short end of the stick. We talked about it pre-game, we had to hold onto the football, we couldnt take penalties and that ended up being the Achilles heel at the end, but there were some good things." Edmonton started the scoring with 5:45 remaining in the opening quarter as quarterback Mike Reilly capped off a long drive with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Fred Stamps. B.C. responded with a 37-yard Ricky Schmitt field goal three minutes later to make it 7-3 for Edmonton heading into the second quarter. John Beck replaced Kevin Glenn as the Lions quarterback for the second half. He had a couple of decentt drives fall short as B. Derek Rivers Patriots Jersey. . could only add a punt single to its side of the score column before turning the ball over at the Edmonton nine-yard line on a third down gamble with just under two minutes to play in the first half. Edmonton got a late interception from Dexter McCoil at the Lions 35, leading to a Grant Shaw field goal and a 10-4 lead for the home team at the mid-mark. The slow pace to the game continued into the third quarter as Edmonton got a single point on a missed 37-yard field goal attempt by Zackary Medeiros. It just wasnt Medeiros day as he got a second chance from the 36 late in the third quarter and hit the uprights to keep the score at a humdrum 11-4. The Lions were pressing to tie the game with nine-and-a-half minutes remaining, but a pass from third string QB Partridge was picked off in the end zone by Edmontons Ryan Hinds. B.C. was finally rewarded on one of their drives with just 2:43 remaining in the fourth quarter as Partridge hit Brian Burnham with a 23-yard TD pass into the end zone to tie the game 11-11. The Lions got the ball back at the Edmonton 25 with 47 seconds left on Alex Ellis-Hoffmans recovery of a Mark Dell fumble, leading to the game-winning field goal. Notes: Both teams close out the pre-season with games next Friday as the Eskimos travel to Regina to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Lions head home to host the Calgary Stampeders. The two teams will then face each other again to start the regular season on Saturday, June 28 in Vancouvera The Esks came into the game with losses in their four previous pre-season games and just one win in their last sevena It was the first game for first-year head coach Chris Jones at the helm of the Eskimos after coming to the team following a stint as an assistant with the Toronto Argosa Edmonton quarterback Matt Nichols played in his first game after missing all of last season with a knee injury. He was 9-for-12 passing for 107 yardsa Lions star quarterback Travis Lulay remains on the mend after undergoing shoulder surgery last November and may not be able to return by the start of the regular seasona Among those vying for a spot as QB with the Lions this year is former NFL quarterback John Becka The announced attendance was 25,963. TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips answers several questions each week. Nicolas Meloche Avalanche Jersey . This week, topics cover the Blue Jays sudden success, Anthony Goses role with the Blue Jays, keeping confidence in tough times and scouts who keep the MLB alive. 1) Why are the Toronto Blue Jays winning so much of late when they scuffled last season with virtually the same roster? Is it purely the return to health of key players (Reyes, Bautista, Janssen)? Is it John Gibbons assigning personal catchers, managing the pen, managing team attitude? How do you explain the difference? Or is this just a short blip for a team that will eventually crash back to earth? So will the real Blue Jays please stand up? What are we to believe? Are the Jays the team that terribly disappointed us last year or are they this years surprising first place club? How is it possible that effectively the same team could have been so bad last year yet so good this year? All very legitimate questions for sure. There are clearly three major differences from 2013 to 2014. Firstly, the offense is hitting on all cylinders. The Jays are leading the AL in runs scored so far this season. They have the most home runs and the best OPS. They are slugging the ball like the team they were constructed to be. Clearly health is a major factor the turnaround from last year to this year as well. A healthy Jose Reyes at the top of the lineup establishes the offences as aggressive. His speed provides more fastball for the hitters behind him in the lineup and they are capitalizing on those opportunities. Jose Batisista looks like the same guy from 2010-11 who hit for average and power and was a run producer. He is showing no ill effects of past injuries. Edwin Encarnacion has literally been Mickey Mantle in the month of May as he tied Mantles AL record for most homers in a month with 16. Melky Cabrera is slugging like the Melky Cabrera who used steroids in the past. Oops did I say that out loud? I dont think he is using again. It was just a joke. The second major turnaround from last year to this year is in starting pitching. In 2013, the Jays starters ranked 14th in the league with a 4.81 ERA. They struggled, often leaving the club in an early hole which was nearly impossible to dig out of, as it affected the quality of the at bats that the hitters delivered. This season the Jays starters are ranked fifth in the AL with a 3.83 ERA. They are almost a whole run per game better. This is a huge difference. The starters have a win-loss record of 26-13 where as they only won 46 games all season a year ago. This is proving that with such a vaunted offense, if the starters can keep it close, the Jays have a chance to win. The third major improvement for the Jays has been their defence. They have committed the second fewest errors in the AL so far this season. A year ago, they committed the fourth-most errors. This means that the pitching staff doesnt have to get nearly as many extra outs. One thing to beware of is the schedule. The Jays are 32-23 so far. But they have only played 13 games against teams with a record over .500. In those games they are 7-6. I believe Toronto can sustain their success because they have a winning formula: Good starting pitching with a solid defence and a powerful offence. They have some vulnerability in the rotation as Mark Buehrle just cant continue at this pace and the back end has been a bit inconsistent. They really need to add another starter. The bullpen hasnt been nearly as consistent as a year ago which means they may need to address that at some point as well. They certainly have some flaws but quite honestly, so does everyone else in the AL East. They can win this division! 2) Anthony Gose has thrived in centre field with the Toronto Blue Jays since Colby Rasmus went down with injury. With the team in first place and riding a hot streak, whats the best way to get him in the lineup when Rasmus returns? Or does Gose just go back to the bench (or the minors) and wait for his next chance? It is time to figure out what Anthony Gose can become. The Jays need to figure out if he is part of the problem or solution by the seasons end. Goses speed can energize a team when they are struggling to score. He could bolster his teammates on day games after night games when everyone else feels a bit sluggish. He has a chance to be a valuable asset. Melky Cabrera and Colby Rasmus are both free agents at the end of the year. The Jays need to know if they have a low-cost alternative for one of their outfield spots for next year. The only way to figure that out is to let the young man play at the major league level and get some at bats. Colby Rasmus gives up too many at bats. He loses focus or concentration and strikes out far too much. Yes, Rasmus has more power than Gose but Goses speed adds an element to the Jays offence that can be tough for the opposition to deal with. I think Colby Rasmus needs competition. He needs to fight and produce for playing time. There is a way to manage the outfield with Rasmus and Gose splitting time in CF and giving occasional days off to Cabrera and Batista. John Gibbons can keep everyone hungry and everyone sharp. When I was Mets general manager I made a trade with the Dodgers for Roger Cedeno, a speedy outfielder, who had not proven himself at the major league level. I was able to keep him in the majors and paired him up with Rickey Henderson. Hendersons knowledge and experience rubbed off on Cedeno and we developed a player with discipline at the plate and blazing speed on the bases. Gose needs to be in Jose Reyes hip pocket and learn as much as possible. The Jays need to win now and develop for the future as well. 3) Earlier in the week, Jeff Samardzija finally picked up his first win of the season. He had gone 16 starts without a win, despite having one of the lowest ERAs in the majors this season. You were an executive with the Mets when Anthony Young lost 27 straight decisions (both as a starter and as a reliever) in the early 90s, despite being a decent pitcher. How does the team best manage a players psyche when they go through stretches like this? And how much of that kind of mental health massaging actually goes on in the Big Leagues? So many of todays young baseball executives are administrators. They have a mathematical or statistical background. They are number crunchers. Paul Depodesta, who was Billy Beanes assistant in Oakland (the Jonah Hill character in Moneyball) and later the GM for the Los Angeles Dodgers once said that if he couldnt quantify something about a player then it didnt matter. But what he missed was that it is people who play the game not robots. The way a player feels affects how he plays. I have a psychology degree. It doesnt give me the ability to read peoples minds but it certainly added to my understanding of what makes people tick. Plus as a player, my mind is what held me back from being a big leaguer. I experienced how the mental part of the game can impact a players performance. I could run. I was strong. I had a good arm. I made myself into a more than adequate defender. I was a good teammate. But I was a "try-er." When things went wrong I pushed harder and worked more. I took extra batting practice almost every day of my professional career. I told myself, "No one will ever out-work me. If I dont get to the big leagues it wont be because I didnt put enough effort in to it." I realize now that I tried too hard. I worked too much. If I took nine good swings in batting practice but a bad one on my 10th swing I held on to the bad swing. I beat myself up over it. If I struck out I didnt feel the pain of one strike out, I carried the weight of the fifty before it as well. It takes all kinds of people to make the world go around. Players with the most confidence ever and least confidence never can reach the major leagues, but the players with the right balance of confidence, humility, concentration, intensity, etc. are the ones who best sustain success. I am living a life of recovery now and one of the tools of the program is the Serenity Prayer. It reads like this: God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change;the Courage to change the things I can; and the Wisdom to know the difference. One of the toughest lessons for players to accept is that they dont control the outcome of everything in the game. They can only control what they can control. You would be shocked by the fine line that baseball players walk between confidence and complete and utter fear of failure, even among the very best players. I asked New York Mets star third baseman David Wright in spring training if he ever thought when he signed to play ball out of high school if he would have this kind of career. He said he didnt and then added that he questions himself all of the time if he can still do it. When he has a bad day he battles those (voices) that make him wonder if he might not be good anymore. If he has those thoughts, I clearly had no chance with the way I thought. When players struggle like Anthony Young and Jeff Jeff Samardzija they can feel helpless and hopeless. They wonder what they can possibly do differently. They start to feel like they need to be perfect. Striving for perfection is dangerous. When a pitcher isnt getting run support he feels like he needs to miss bats and pitch a shutout. When pitchers try too hard they often compound their problems. The same for batters. It is not a matter of trying harder to perform better in baseball. It takes concentration and intensity. Unfortunately, "trying" to generate intensity often leads to tension. Tension leads to overthinking and over trying which leads to more struggles. It is a vicious circle that can start all over again. The key to overcoming struggles is to maintain ones composure and confidence. Players truly need to understand that they dont have to be perfect. Remember, this is a game where hitters fail 70% of the time and are deemed extremely successful. Coping with failure is the attribute that separates the men from the boys in the major leagues. It was my downfall. Failure devoured me. I actually felt physical pain when I was struggling. I obsessed about it, it ate me up. Remarkably, Anthony Young and Jeff Samardzija had the ability to not get paralyzed by their failure because within the failure they were able to see some success. They learned that a loss didnt mean they were a loser. They didnt let their performance or their job become their identity. The ability to own their role in the result and not take on the entire responsibility of the result was critical. My experience is that when people share their personal struggles around failure it helps the person going through a tough time. That is what sponsors do in recovery and coaches do in baseball. I am still so amazed by athletes that can cope with failure. I know the challenge it can be. I still have to battle the negative thoughts that come with failure. I am better at it than I have ever been mainly because I have given myself a lot of practice. In recovery we talk about "Progress not perfection." It works in baseball too. 4) Next week baseball will hold the First-Year Player Draft. Eligible high school and college kids in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico can be drafted in the forty rounds (plus compensation picks) of the draft. Once drafted the kids will negotiate a contract with the selecting team and when they sign they will enter the minor league system for their organization and start to work their way to the majors. Many fans show up at major league games and have no idea about where the players come from. Baseball develops its own players. It is one of the things that distinguishes it from football and basketball. The NFL and NBA are satisfied in letting the NCAA develop their players. Fans dont understand the investment that baseball makes to acquire and develop its talent. Each organization in baseball spends about $15-$20 million on their minor leagues and scouting department. Those departments are the research and development areas of the operations. The money to pay for that comes directly off of the bottom line of the revenues generated by the major league team. Teams reinvest in themselves every year. If a team calls up four rookies in a season then they are effectively spending about $5 million per player per year. That is a significant investment. The men and women that make up the minor league and scouting departments are the lifeline of every organization. They are the foundation upon which the organization is built. Without them there would be no need for a business operations department, accounting department, ticket department or marketing department. There would be no stadiums or ground crews if not for the people who choose and develop the players. For the most part this is a group of no-name faceless baseball lifers who love the game and are committed to their respective organization. They have a keen eye for talent and a knack for getting to know what kids are made of. They rarely get recognition beyond that which they give themselves at a banquet at the Baseball Winter Meetings. Each year a scout or two is recognized for long and meritorious service. As we approach the draft give some thought and thanksgiving for those who have committed their lives to your baseball enjoyment. They love the game like you do and their only hope is that they can pick players who will make you happy. They never get the attention they deserve. I hope one or two read this. Montreals Bouchard managed to find a way past Czech Karolina Pliskova 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to win in her U.S. Open main draw debut. Dancevic, a product of Niagara Falls, Ont., defeated Robin Haase of the Netherlands 7-6 (5), 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7). It was Dancevics first victory in New York in four attempts after first-round losses in 2007, 2008 and 2011. Dancevic took it into a tiebreak, where he ran off a 4-0 lead before taking the victory on the third of four match points. The Canadian jammed his toe on a shot and also scrapped his right elbow with a few dives on the hard court. "Im pretty happy with my performance today. I jammed the toe really bad in the second set and ended up cutting half of my toe nail off," Dancevic said. "I was struggling to move and worried about what might happen later in the match. I served better as the match went on, but we were both getting a bit tired in the fourth set and trying to win it on serve. "The tiebreaks really made the difference, I played pretty well in them and thats what gave me the victory." The Atlanta Falcons are making it work. Hester gets his first crack at his former team on Sunday as the Falcons host the Bears in a matchup of 2-3 teams at the Georgia Dome. Hester was a second round pick of Chicago in 2006 and set a number of records during his stay with the Bears. That includes 18 kick return touchdowns and 13 punt return touchdowns and he also set franchise marks with 3,241 punt return yards and 5,504 kickoff return yards. Of course, that doesnt include his 92-yard touchdown return on the opening kickoff of Super Bowl XLI in an eventual loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Hester added 217 catches for 2,807 yards and 14 touchdowns with Chicago, but asked not to play offense last season under new head coach Marc Trestman. Its going to be fun, kind of exciting, Hester told the Falcons website of the matchup. Im so used to going against those guys in practice; itll be the first time for me to go against them live. Hester was held to just two catches for 16 yards and ran once for another three yards in last Sundays 30-20 loss to the New York Giants. The Falcons led by 10 late in the third quarter before New York reeled off 20 straight points, 13 in the fourth frame. Matt Ryan threw for 316 yards and a touchdown with one interception, while Julio Jones caught 11 passes for 105 yards. Running back Antone Smith added a 74-yard touchdown catch as the Falcons fell to 0-3 on the road this season compared to 2-0 at home. We couldnt get anything going offensively there in the second half and we couldnt get the stops that we needed, Falcons head coach Mike Smith remarked. We are extremely disappointed in the way that the game finished. The same could be said for the Bears in their 31-21 loss to the Carolina Panthers last weekend. Turnovers doomed Chicago as it failed to hold three-point lead with six minutes with less than five minutes to play. Quarterback Jay Cutler was intercepted and the pick was returned 35 yards to the Chicago 32. That set up a game-tying field goal by the Panthers Graham Gano with 4:29 to go and Matt Forte fumbled on the first snap of the resulting possession. Carolina recovered at the Chicago 23, setting up a six-yard go-ahead TD pass for the Panthers with 2:18 to go. Ive got to take accountability for our failure to get things done in the second half, said Chicago head coach Marc Trestman. We didnt have any significant drives and failed to convert third downs. We just didnt get it done. Cutler passed for 289 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score, but was also picked off twice. Forte ran for 61 yards and added 105 receiving on 12 catches. Following their second straight setback, the Bears will play their fourth road game in five weeks. They have won four of six and nine of their last 12 against the Falcons, including a 30-12 win at home in the last meeting in 2011. Cutler threw for 312 yards and two scores, including a 56-yard touchdown pass to Forte, who ended with 158 yards from scrimmage. Ryan had 319 yards passing, but was sacked five times. Chicago remains one victory shy of becoming the first team in NFL history to reach 750 wins. WHAT TO WATCH FOR All eyes will be on Hester and how he torments his former team. He comes in as the only player in the league to post a rushing, receiving and return touchdown this season. While never fully breaking out on offense in Chicago, Hester is third on Atlanta with 14 catches behind only standouts Jones and Roddy Whitee and is also averaging 24. Wayne Gallman Giants Jersey. 2 yards per kickoff return and 14.4 yards on eight punt returns. I think everybody knows how great a player he is. I dont think theres any question about that. I think the biggest thing is we just have to have a good plan going in for him, said Bears special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis. A lot of people say you cant punt it to him. ... There are a lot of things that go into that. Otherwise, everybody would do it. Hester did not practice on Wednesday due to a hamstring injury, but expects to play in this game. Im sure itll be different for Dev this week, said Ryan. Obviously, played a long time in Chicago and has a lot of friends and former teammates that he played with up there, and Im sure thatll probably be on his mind a little bit, but Im think once the ball kicks off and you start playing I think hes such a competitor week-to-week hes going to give you his best regardless. Ryans counterpart, Cutler, will try to shake off another costly turnover. He has thrown 12 touchdown passes on the year, but has been picked off six times and lost a pair of fumbles. Cutler and Trestman know they need to get wide receiver Brandon Marshall involved along with Forte and wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. Marshall has five touchdown receptions, but only one in the past three games since hauling in three versus San Francisco in Week 2 despite an ankle injury. He has made just six catches in the past three games, three of those coming versus Carolina for 44 yards. Hes been targeted certainly. But were going to go back and do some work on that to make sure were doing all the right things in that regard, noted Trestman. We targeted him (Sunday). He had a lot of calls and they took it away and Jay did the right thing by going other places. But we want (Marshall) to have more productivity. When he touches the ball good things happen and over the last couple of weeks we havent been able to get that done. Its certainly something we have to continue to work on to get him back involved where he can get more touches that will result in bigger plays. The Falcons have countered a defense that ranks 29th in both total and scoring defense by posting the leagues third-ranked offense at 434.6 yards per game and 30.2 points. Antone Smith has become a big play threat with four touchdowns on the year. He has caught a 54-yard score in addition to his recent 74-yarder and has also found the end zone on the ground from 38 and 48 yards out. Now the back and the rest of the Falcons need to figure out how to translate their home success to road games, but that is a problem best saved for next Sunday in Baltimore. I wish we could figure it out to be more consistent week-to-week, but I think when youre at home, obviously from a communications standpoint its a little bit easier, noted Ryan. Its not quite as loud, and that helps us to a certain extent, but across the board I think home or away we need to be more consistent. OVERALL ANALYSIS The Bears will certainly need to be focused on an energized Hester, but he isnt the biggest concern on the Falcons offense. Smith and Jones have big- play potential and Chicago is giving up 26.2 points and 262.4 yards per game. Atlanta has had its own struggles playing defense, but the secondary needs to only sit back and wait for Cutler to make a mistake in a tough Georgia Dome environment. I think every week is important, certainly when we get back at home I think thats a good thing for us, said Ryan. (Coach Smith) talks about it all the time, we want to be tough and defend the dome every chance that we get. Dont be surprised to see Hester bring the crowd to its feet with some big plays and leave Cutler and company again searching for answers. RENTON, Wash. http://www.hockeycapitalsnhl.com/authentic-nicklas-backstrom-capitals-jersey/ . - A day later, it was still hard to fathom how the Seattle Seahawks are headed for their second straight Super Bowl.Even for those directly involved in Seattles stunning comeback to win the NFC title.A little bit, said wide receiver Jermaine Kearse, who caught the winning 35-yard touchdown in overtime of Seattles 28-22 win over Green Bay.But the type of guys that we have in our locker room is a bunch of different stories of different paths of how people got to where they got.You think about all the undrafted guys, you think about the guys that were drafted in the late rounds and rose to the occasion. I feel like our team story is full of adversity and pushing through it and thats what showed.Just how the Seahawks rallied to stun the Packers was still being comprehended on Monday while Seattle began preparations for its chance at a second straight championship facing New England.Seattle is keeping the same schedule as last year with three days of practice this week before heading to Arizona on Sunday.Seattle coach Pete Carroll intends on having most of the game plan in place before the Seahawks leave. We do have to get a lot done. This is a very heightened time for us. This is not sit back and take a couple of days. Were going after it, Carroll said. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday were game planning and well have the game plan in before we leave. Thats an old Bill Walsh way.Thats the way weve always done the bowl games and stuff since weve been doing it. Its a really good way for the coaches and players to focus before the distractions that naturally come up when you get on the road.Seattle still expects both safety Earl Thomas and cornerback Richard Sherman to be available to play in two weeks even though Carroll did not have results of MRIs on Monday. Thomas separated his shoulder in the first half, but returned before halftime and played with a brace.Sherman injured his left elbow when his arm was sandwiched between teammate Kam Chancellor and Green Bays James Starks on the first play of the fourth quarter. Sherman played the rest of the game with his arm pinned against his chest, but while it was obvious Sherman was limited the Packers rarely challenged him.Rodgers threw at Sherman only once in the fourth quarter. Both those guys were in dire straits could they play. They didnt flinch, not for a second, Carroll said. When they played, they played their hearts out.The courage and the toughness and standing up for who they are and what they mean to this team couldnt have been more evident and the willingness to throw their body out there again and try to finish this game and would not allow it to be any other way. It was so impressive. It really was and there were a lot of guys who do that but it was just really symbolic.According to STATS, Seattle is just the second team to trail by 12 or more points and rally in the final 2:10 of regulation to win. On Dec. 23, 1972, the Cowboys trailed San Francisco 28-16, but scored twice in the final 1:20 to win 30-28.Seattles improbable comeback started when it trailed 19-7 after Russell Wilson threw his fourth interception of the game with about five minutes remaining. But the interception started the chain of events that helped Seattle pull off its rally, beginning with Morgan Burnetts decision to slide down in the open field rather than trying to return the pick as far as possible.Seattle was able to force Green Bay into a three-and-out with the Seahawks using only two of their timeouts and just 1:12 elapsing off the clock. The Seahawks needed only 1:43 to go 69 yards and score on Wilsons 1-yard touchdown with 2:09 remaining. Then came the onside kick, which Carroll said Monday gets practiced once a week. Just 44 seconds later, Marshawn Lynch was in the end zone after a 24-yard run and the ensuing 2-point conversion pass from Wilson to tight end Luke Willson, who wasnt supposed to be involved in the original play. And lastly, on the first drive of overtime, Wilson made a check at the line of scrimmage and recognizing there was no safety in the middle of the field and Kearse had single coverage. All Kearse had to do was win his matchup. Were all real grateful that we were a part of it and had the opportunity to be faced with so much adversity and so much of a challenge and see guys really play through it and come through, Carroll said. It wasnt a one play thing. A lot of stuff had to happen.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/AP_NFL http://www.hockeycapitalsnhl.com/authentic-john-carlson-capitals-jersey/ . Djalo blasted a shot from the right side of the box to the bottom left corner of goal about a foot inside the post. Djallo started the second half in place of Atiba Harris. http://www.hockeycapitalsnhl.com/authentic-ilya-samsonov-capitals-jersey/. The Earthquakes nearly scored again just a minute later, but Chris Wondolowski was caught offside after a pass from Shea Salinas, negating the score.
