WASHINGTON -- Washington Nationals second baseman Anthony Rendon knew he was a triple short of the cycle late in the game. Ugg Australia Bottes Femme . It didnt mean he was going to change his approach. Rendon singled in a run, hit a three-run homer, and doubled in his first three at-bats before grounding out and flying out in the Nationals 11-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. "I heard people in the stands, get the triple, get the triple. I didnt want that, means Ive got to run more. Ill stop at second base," Rendon said with a smile. He drove in four runs to back Jordan Zimmermanns seven shutout innings. "I think it set the tone with Anthony in the first inning," manager Matt Williams said of the offence. "Youve got a 3-1 pitch and he doesnt get too big. He simply stayed with the approach of what he needed to have happen there and he ended up getting a base hit." The Nationals hitters had been struggling in the nine games since Ryan Zimmerman went on the disabled list. Saturday they had 14 hits, including two apiece by Denard Span, Asdrubal Cabrera and Wilson Ramos. Every Nationals starter, including Zimmermann, hit safely. Zimmermann (7-5) held the Phillies to five singles and struck eight without a walk for his 50th career win, and first since June 30th. He retired the last 11 batters he faced and left after throwing 97 pitches. Marlon Byrd had two hits for Philadelphia, which had won the first two games of the series 10-4 and 2-1. Phillies starter A.J. Burnett (6-11) and manager Ryne Sandberg didnt last long. Both were ultimately ejected when Burnett motioned and yelled toward home plate umpire Chris Guccione during Washingtons four-run second inning. Washington loaded the bases on two walks and an error. After Span drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Rendon connected on a 3-1 pitch from Burnett for his 14th home run, making it 5-0. Rendons blast snapped a nine-game homerless streak for the Nationals, the longest in team history (2005-present). Burnett, who had two walks in the inning, then intentionally threw ball one to Jayson Werth and motioned toward Guccione. "I did ask him twice in the first and second if that was out or that was down," Burnett said of Guccione. "Yeah, it was out, it was down, okay. And the one I threw purposefully out, I said the same thing, but I said it more of a statement than a question. I said Thats out. That was it, pretty quick trigger." After Burnett was tossed, Sandberg raced out and heatedly argued with Guccione near home plate, and was soon ejected. Burnett allowed five runs, one was earned, in losing his third straight decision. TRAINERS ROOM: Phillies: Sandberg said outfielder Domonic Brown, suffering from strep throat, is day-to-day, and that Byrd has been playing with a bruised right foot for four or five days. ON DECK: Phillies: Cole Hamels (6-5, 2.55) has won four straight decisions. He makes his 30th career start against Washington Sunday. Hes 15-6 with a 2.63 ERA versus the Nationals. Nationals: Stephen Strasburg (7-9, 3.55) is 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA in three home starts against the Phillies dating back to last season. WILLIAMS SAYS SWING AWAY In addition to experimenting with his batting stance recently, Bryce Harper has also on occasion attempted to bunt for a hit. Williams would generally prefer Harper swing away. "Depends on the situation," Williams said. "It depends on a lot of things, health, how his thumb is feeling. It depends on what the situation dictates for that particular game. More often than not, I would like to see him swing the bat. Because he just has the opportunity to do something special. "If he feels like the guys playing him back far enough that he can do that and get on base, given the right situation, okay. But then again, theres times where I want him to swing, too," said Williams, adding he and Harper have talked about it. Harper is enjoying more success recently, and is 7-for-his-last-23. The kind he has every so often. The kind he has when Dwyane Wade sits. James scored 43 points -- 25 in a bewildering first-quarter shooting display -- and Chris Bosh added 21, leading the Miami Heat to a 100-96 win Tuesday night over the Cleveland Cavaliers, who played their first game without injured All-Star guard Kyrie Irving. With Wade out resting his sore knees, James took it upon himself to carry the Heat. The same thing happened on March 3 and James responded by scoring a career-high 61 against Charlotte. "I dont know, its one of those zones," James said, trying to explain how he made 10 of 11 shot and five 3-pointers in the dizzying opening quarter. "When I started the game off, I felt like I could have gone for 50 or 60." James added two crucial blocks and dropped six free throws in the final two minutes, and Bosh had a key rejection to lead the Heat to just their third win in eight games. With Wade out, the Heats two other megastars picked up the slack. Jarrett Jack scored 22 and Dion Waiters added 17 and 11 assists for Cleveland, which was also without starting forward Luol Deng (sprained ankle). Irvings expected to miss two weeks with a strained biceps tendon, an injury that further damages the Cavs fading playoff hopes. Cleveland fell six games behind Atlanta for the final playoff spot. "Our guys hung in there and they competed," Cavs coach Mike Brown said. After one quarter, it was: James 25, Cavs 25. And like the other 20,000 plus in attendance, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra marveled at James accuracy. "That had nothing to do with me," Spoelstra said. "Truth be told, its not like Im absolutely in love with those type of plays, but he had it rolling. So I took a step back for a little bit." The four-time MVP had 31 points at halftime and 37 after three quarters, but the Heat entered the final 12 minutes tied as they were unable to shake off the Cavs, who shot 60 per cent from the floor through three and had all five starters in double figures. With James content to distribute the ball, Bosh scored nine straight points to put Miami ahead 93-88 with 2:24 remaining. Cleveland cut it to three on a basket by Anderson Varejao and had a chance to get closer but James -- with an assist from Udonis Haslem -- snuffed a dunk attempt by Spencer Hawes. Just 11 seconds later, Bosh turned away Waiters and James made a pair of free throws to make it 95-90 with 1:06 remaining. After empty possessions by both teams, James blocked a drive by Waiters and Bosh split a pair of free throws, giving the Heat a 96-90 lead. Ugg Australia Femme Soldes. Jack made two 3-pointers in the final 15.7 seconds, but both times James answered by hitting two free throws to close it out. Spoelstra was most pleased with Miamis defence down the stretch. "Probably my favourite play was the double block," he said. "U.D. and L.J. going for that. It should be a layup. It should be a dunk. To make that play, those are the things I like to see." James improved to 13-1 against the Cavaliers, the team he left after seven seasons as a free agent in 2010. James made his first six shots -- four of them 3s -- and showed most of his offensive repertoire in the first quarter. He hit fadeaways, runners and a thunderous breakaway dunk. The only shot James missed came on a "heat-check" 3-pointer from way beyond the arc. "Thats what makes LeBron unique in this league," Spoelstra said. "In todays age, there are players who would be looking for numbers with that type of start to see if you can go for 70. LeBrons just trying to play the game the right way. It takes great maturity. Hes selfless." It was James second visit to Cleveland in 10 days. He had been back on March 8, when former teammate Zydrunas Ilgauskas had his jersey retired by the Cavs, who may one day raise the No. 23 James wore to the rafters of Quicken Loans Arena. Much pregame hype focused on the All-Stars future. James can opt out of his contract with Miami this summer and become a free agent, and one of his possible destinations could be Cleveland. Asked directly if he wants to play for his former team again, James was noncommittal. "As of right now, its too hard for me to think about," he said. "We have 20 or less games before we gear up for no sleep for two months, hopefully. So for me to try and take my mind somewhere else when I know whats on its way is almost impossible." NOTES: Wade will be re-evaluated Wednesday when the Heat visit Boston. ... James has yet to fill out his NCAA tournament brackets and didnt seem to be in a hurry to do it anytime soon. "Im terrible," he said. He was then reminded about the $1 billion Gilbert and tycoon Warren Buffett are offering for anyone who picks the games perfectly. Doesnt he want the billion? "No," James said. "Im just going to ask him for it." Its unclear whether he meant Gilbert or Buffett. ... Spoelstra intends to keep C Greg Oden in the starting lineup, a drastic change for Miami, which has favoured smaller, shooter-heavy lineups. Oden made his third start and finished with six points in 14 minutes. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Nike Roshe Run NM BR . -- All-Star closer Greg Holland agreed Wednesday with the Royals to a one-year contract worth $4,675,000, the final player to reach a deal among Kansas Citys players in arbitration. Holland had asked for $5.2 million in arbitration last month and the Royals had offered $4.1 million. They settled just over the midpoint rather than allow a three-person panel to pick one figure or the other, something that has never happened since general manager Dayton Moore took over the Royals baseball operations in 2006. Holland, who went 2-1 with a 1.21 ERA and a franchise-record 47 saves last season, will also earn a $50,000 bonus if hes selected for his second All-Star game. Moore said Monday that he was confident a deal would get done with Holland, who was eligible for arbitration for the first time, but that he wasnt against going to a hearing. "We havent experienced that since weve been here, but its not by design," Moore said. Moore also considered it a good sign the Royals had numerous players eligible for arbitration this year. They had previously reached one-year deals with first baseman Eric Hosmer, outfielder Justin Maxwell, catcher Brett Hayes and relief pitchers Tim Collins, Luke Hochevar and Aaron Crow. They also agreed to a deal with Emilio Bonifacio, who has since been waived. "I think its a reflection of a player, what theyve accomplished at this stage of their career, what kind of leverage they have," Moore said. "Getting a deal prior to a hearing is going to be more challenging going forward as long as we have players excelling and doing well." Pitchers and catchers are due to report to Surprise, Ariz., on Friday. The Royals first full-squad workout is Feb. 20 with their exhibition opener against Texas on Feb. 27. Holland assumed the closers role in Kansas City late in 2012, and he flourished last season, unleashing an overpowering fastball on an unsuspecting AL Central. He finished third in the majors in saves, and his strikeout rate of 13.84 per nine innings was among the best in baseball. While hes under club control through arbitration for two more years, Holland said during a recent interview that he would be open to discussing a long-term deal with Kansas City. "I love the town. I love the fans," he said. "Id really take a lot of pride in being here when we took the next step, making the playoffs and eventually winning a championship." Holland should once again serve as the bookend to one of the most dominant bullpens in the American League this season. Most of the key pieces are back from a group that went 33-24 with an AL-best 2.55 ERA and held opponents to a .217 batting average last season. "Greg is obviously one of the best closers in all of baseball," Crow said. "Whatever we have to do to get the ball to him in the ninth inning, well do. Doesnt matter whether you pitch the second inning or the eighth inning. We just want to give Greg an opportunity to get a save." Nike Roshe Run Breeze . The Thunder earned their first win of the set with Sundays 106-97 victory and Ibaka played a big role. LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Most satisfying to Russ Smith about No. 6 Louisvilles victory over Western Kentucky was his teammates assistance in overcoming the absence of starting point guard Chris Jones. Just as important was the timing of those contributions that put away the Hilltoppers. Smith had 14 points and 10 assists and Louisville shot 69 per cent from the field in the second half to pull away to a 79-63 victory on Saturday. With Jones sidelined at least a game with a sprained right wrist, the Cardinals (9-1) got numerous backcourt contributions to beat their in-state rival for the fifth straight time. Smith, Louisvilles leading scorer who has tried to involve teammates more this season, set the tone in both areas with five assists and nine points in the second half to finish with his second double-double in three games. Louisvilles bench outscored WKUs 33-20. "My job is just to perform on a daily basis and get my teammates involved," Smith said. "If shots arent falling, I have to find my teammates, play some great defence and help Louisville win some games." Freshman Terry Rozier grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds starting in Jones place while little-used senior reserve Tim Henderson -- whose consecutive 3-pointers helped Louisville rally past Wichita State in last springs national semifinal -- added career highs of 12 points on four 3-pointers and four assists in 22 minutes. "Im kind of used to that role, Ive had it for four years now," the walk-on said. "We have such a great group of people, a great group of guards who can all play well. "Its whatever Coach (Rick Pitino) feels like is going to work that game and how you match up with them. I guess he felt like I matched up well with this team and with Chris out." Their efforts helped Louisville pad a 31-28 halftime lead as the Cardinals made 13 of their first 21 attempts from the field after the break to build a 63-44 lead with 6:02 left. They shot 18 of 26 in the second half. Louisville held the Hilltoppers (5-4) scoreless for nearly 6 minutes. Mangok Mathiang added a career-high 13 points and Chane Behanan had 11 points and seven rebounds for Louisville, which shot 30 of 59 overall (51 per cent) after hitting just 36 per cent in the first half. Nike Air Max 2016 Solde. Wayne Blackshear added 12 points while senior forward Stephan Van Treese had five points with four rebounds, providing a presence for the Cardinals with Mathiang hampered by three fouls. Pitino praised Smith, his senior tri-captain, for being the catalyst. "Until you knock the young man off of his throne, hes the premier player in college basketball," Pitino said. "(Its a) biased opinion by me, but I think he is because he has made every change. "Two years ago, I needed him to carry the team on his back, he did. Now, I need him to pass the basketball and take good shots, he does." T.J. Prices 22 points led WKU, which shot just 36 per cent and was outscored 36-14 inside. Brandon Harris, coming off a career-high 30-point game at Southern Illinois, finished with four points. Louisville improved to 38-39 all-time against WKU in a series that both coaches want to continue even though its programs are headed to new leagues next season. The Cardinals will leave the American Athletic Conference to join the Atlantic Coast Conference while the Hilltoppers will move from the Sun Belt to Conference USA. The Cardinals collective effort beat back a Western Kentucky team that came in a little deeper after transfers Trency Jackson and Chris Harrison-Docks became eligible on Friday. WKU coach Ray Harper promised to play both extensively and even started Jackson at guard in a strong lineup featuring leading scorer Price (15.6 points) and George Fant (13.9). Harrison-Docks finished with 10 points and Jackson had six. Star players were mostly secondary in a tight first half featuring four ties and eight lead changes before Louisville rallied twice from four-point deficits for its narrow edge at the break. Blackshear scored the Cardinals final eight points of the half including consecutive 3-pointers. Louisville opened the second half with a 14-5 run for a 45-33 lead that eventually reached 21. "I thought the first half we did good job of keeping the pace a little slower," Harper said. "Second half, I thought they dictated pace, got out and got some easy baskets." cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

TORONTO - James Johnson was in Houston to meet with the Rockets shortly after free agency opened on July 1 when he got the call. Laurent Koscielny Jersey . It wasnt a shock to me, said the journeyman forward, admitting he wasnt exactly expecting it, either. But at the same time I was happy that an organization like [the Raptors] wanted me back. The phone call was from his agent, Mark Bartelstein. The next stop on his free agent tour would be Las Vegas, where he was scheduled to meet with representatives from Toronto. Understandably, they would have a lot of questions for the soon-to-be born-again Raptor. When the Raptors traded Johnson to Sacramento following a turbulent first stint in Toronto almost exactly two years earlier, he never thought hed be back. No, I didnt actually, he told TSN.ca. But thats part of the business, thats the nature of the business. You dont burn no bridges and you appreciate what you have. Whatever happened in a late-season practice that caused a fracture in the relationship between Johnson and then first-year head coach Dwane Casey, the team kept it under wraps. Whatever led to his two-game suspension and forced the deal that sent him to the Kings the following summer appears to be water under the bridge. What we do know is that Casey has always valued Johnson as a defender, no surprise given the forwards unique combination of size, speed, strength and athleticism, and Johnson hasnt always taken kindly to the role that Casey had assigned him. I think [it was] just his view of how he was playing and how he was being used, Casey said. Hes not different than probably 10 other players in the locker room, and especially young players coming in. They feel like their value is not being taken advantage of and that was James. He just felt like at that time, [at] that point in his career, he should have been doing more. But thats changed, or so both gentlemen tell us. Time has healed those wounds. Time and winning. Both Casey and Johnson have had the taste of success since they went 23-43 together during the lockout-shortened 2011-12 campaign. Johnsons career hit rock bottom when he ended up in the D-League after his brief and unsuccessful stay in Sacramento left him without an NBA home. That was a turning point for him. You know, going down to the D-League changes your mindset a little bit, said Johnson, who averaged 18.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.9 steals and 3.4 blocks in 10 games with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2013. Your ego changes a little bit and I grew up. I got humble down there. From there, he ended up in Memphis. The Grizzlies brought him in to fill a role, a different role than hell be asked to play in Toronto, but a very specific role nonetheless. He was the utility man, a complimentary piece on an established team that, like Toronto, preaches defence first. Im the guy who just fills in the gaps, said Johnson. I filled the void of whats needed. The Grizzlies won 50 games last season (something that the Raptors have yet to accomplish, for the record) and Johnson got a taste of the playoffs for the second time in his career, the first since his rookie year with Chicago. It was also a notable year for Casey, who led his Raptors team to a franchise record in wins and division title before earning a well-deserved contract extension over the summer. The environment Johnson returns to is night and day from the one he left two years ago. The Raptors are a winning team with lofty expectations. Theyre Caseys team, now more than ever before. If Masai Ujiri and the Raptors organization were going to emulate the San Antonio Spurs, the leagues gold standard, this was always the first step. Find the right coach, commit to that coach and establish an identity (finding and building around the right players also doesnt hurt). Incoming personnel have no choice but to adapt. Johnson and Casey met twice in Vegas before the signing was made official on July 10, the first day the league allows free agents to put pen to paper. Their common ground: winning. Weve both grown, said the 27-year-old forward. I was young, took the onus on myself and now were working with each other and I think its way more positive. His approach and my approach [are] totally different than when I was first here. Im about winning and Coach Caseys about winning. When you have two guys out there on the battlefield, sometimes you say stuff you regret. Youve just gotta learn to get past that. Its just basketball. Casey has always been a strong believer in role definition, making sure his players know where they stand and buy in from the get go. Every fall he sits down with each player during camp and gives them their role card. With Johnson, that process started early. It was a prerequisite. In Johnson, the Raptors address a glaring weakness from last season, one that may have cost them their seven-game series with Brooklyn. Initially, John Salmons filled in admirably as a veteran leader and perimeter defender off the bench, but neither he - at 34-years-old, with a bad back - nor the undersized Terrence Ross could body up with Joe Johnson in the playoffs. Thats what Johnson was brought in to do. Casey calls him their designated hitter, a clever pun that - when you think about it - is more than just a baseball reference. Whoevers got the hot hand, he may have to go designated hit, Casey said ahead of Fridays pre-season game, as one reporter started to chuckle. Youre the only one that caught that, huh? he joked. Hes going to be our defensive guy at both [forward] positions. His presence is already being felt in camp. DeMar DeRozan - a good friend of Johnsons ever since they were first teammates in Toronto - uses him as a sparring partner in practice, although the two have a slightly different take on how those battles play out. He thinks hes the DeMar stopper, but I be out there [to] let him know a lot of times hes not, DeRozan said with a smile. Thats my man, always been, Johnson said of DeRozan. If I can make him better in any way, then I will. I like guarding him in practice because I feel like Im his hardest opponent and he goes hard when Im guarding him. At the end of the day, hes an All-Star and Imma be guarding a lot of those this season. It makes it interesting because hes definitely going to go hard, DeRozan added. Its fun a lot of times when I can compete with a guy like him, the way he moves, how athletic he is, how big and strong he is. In the time since they last played together, DeRozan has blossomed into an All-Star. Johnson notices the maturity in his teammate, both as a player and as a person. He, too, has grown, evident in the way hes checked his ego at the door this time around, but the true test will come when adversity hits and it will. How will he react to Caseys brand of tough love in the middle of a losing streak or after a benching? For a team that credits much of last years success to their in-house chemistry, the addition of a strong-willed player with off-court baggage is a risk, albeit a calculated one. Its success or failure will be predicated on Johnsons continued acceptance of his role, as outlined. Sometimes you think that you have so much other talent, he said. That you just want to score, but if you can take your talent and your athleticism and [use] it on the defensive end and put all your effort into that, then it works. Maturity does that, Casey said with confidence in Johnsons headspace going into the new season. I think he understands now and hell be the first to tell you he understands what his role is and what he was brought here to do. Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens play host to the New Jersey Devils tonight. Phillip Gaines Jersey . Viewers in the Canadiens region can watch the game on TSN Habs at 7:30pm et/8:30pm at. The game is also available on TSN Radio 690 in Montreal. The Canadiens bounced back from a shootout loss on Friday versus Washington to win for the fifth time in six games as they bested the rival Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 on Saturday. Max Pacioretty scored twice, once shorthanded and another on the power play, and finished with an assist to help back 34 saves by Carey Price. Price made 12 of those stops in a spotless third period, while P.K. Subban and Tomas Plekanec also scored. Montreal and Toronto were both 14-9-3 entering the game and the Canadiens avenged a 4-3 home loss to the Maple Leafs on Oct. 1. "Before the game they were even with us but we have to prove a lot against them, especially after the first game this season," said Pacioretty. "Its a good feeling that everyone contributed tonight." Price is 7-9-1 with a 2.42 GAA in 17 lifetime encounters with the Devils. Looking to get on a roll, the Devils have to be pleased to see a trip to the Bell Centre on the schedule. New Jersey has picked up a point in nine straight trips to Montreal since a 4-0 loss on March 11, 2008. The Devils won eight in a row at the Bell Centre before suffering a 4-3 overtime setback in their most recent trip there on Jan. 27. The Devils are 4-1-1 in the past six meetings overall and host the Canadiens on Wednesday. Streaky New Jersey followed up a three-game win streak from Nov. 16-21 with three straight regulation setbacks. The Devils snapped that skid with a 5-2 win at Carolina on Friday, splitting a home-and-home set with the Hurricanes, before edging the Buffalo Sabres 1-0 in overtime the following day. Steve Bernier notched the winner with 40.2 seconds left in the bonus frame, rifling a wrister from the top of the left circle past Buffalos Jhonas Enroth. Defenseman Andy Greene assisted on the goal to give him a goal and five helpers over a five-game point streak. "You never know what can happen when you shoot the puck," Bernier said of his first goal in 20 games. "Thats exactly what I tried, and I scored. Its nice for sure." Cory Schneider stopped all 15 shots he faced to notch his second shutout of the season and 11th of his career. He is just 4-5-3 in 12 games this season despite an excellent 1.72 goals against average and .927 save percentage. Schneider started for the Devils on back-to-back days and the Montreal-born Martin Brodeur is expected to start this game versus the Canadiens. He is 19-8-1 with a 1.62 GAA and five shutouts in 29 career starts at the Bell Centre. Tyvon Branch Jersey . Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi Kerry, Everyone does it, everyone knows it happens but what can referees to stop the delaying tactics used by teams after an icing call? In the first period between Vancouver and Buffalo on Sunday, Buffalo iced the puck and suddenly Zenon Konopka needed a new stick. However, it took the equipment manager about 30-40 seconds trying to find one and gave the team a quick rest. When he finally got near the faceoff dot, the linesman did a quick drop of the puck and the Canucks eventually scored off the resulting play. I know the Canucks sometimes will send in a winger to purposely get waved out to get a breather, but how long do referees give a team before they are able to give a delay of game penalty? Do they have to warn the team first? Gareth Gareth: Even though it is within the referees authority to assess a minor penalty once a player or team deliberately delays the game following an icing, I can think of far more appropriate situations for a referee to flex his muscles and assess a penalty. As you admit Gareth, everyone does it and everyone knows it happens. A warning would typically have to be issued before a delay of game penalty would be assessed in this situation. When Zenon Konopka felt it necessary to change his stick (for whatever reason) following the Sabres icing infraction the referee was caught between a rock and a hard place and must allow the player to obtain a replacement. Can you imagine the nuclear fallout for the ref, following the Canuck goal, if Konopka had been denied the change and his stick had broken on the ensuing face-off? Forcing Knopka to grab any old replacement off the bench other than his own pattern could also set the ref up for some abuse. In the course of a game there are times when a referee must dig his skates in and take a hard-line position but I believe a ref should pick his battles wisely and with good purpose. In my opinion, a slow face-off following an icing isnt typically worth throwing the gauntlet down. That being said, one thing that any referee has little tolerance for is to be publicly embarrassed and played for a fool. What I didnt much care for, as I watched this apparent "sheell game" being play out at the Buffalo bench, were the snickers and laughter that took place at the referees expense. Ron Parker Jersey. The equipment managers and training staff for the Buffalo Sabres are very professional in their duties; as are all NHL team equipment personnel. To believe that a players stick wasnt available in the rack just isnt within the realm of possibility. Gareth, let me suggest one possible way to deter a team from abusing rule 81.4—line changes on icing. My approach would have to laugh right along with them right up to the end of the little charade when Zenon Konopka was finally handed his replacement stick and before he sprinted to the face-off dot with a grin. At that point I would issue Coach Ted Nolan an "official warning" that any undue delay by him or his players on a future icing would result in bench minor penalty. I would be sure to say it with a smile on my face but there would be little doubt that the gauntlet had been dropped! You might also be curious Gareth (like me) as to why a lengthy rest delay was even required by the Sabres fourth line on just their fourth shift of the game; if in fact that was the intention of Zenon Konopka and the Sabres bench staff. Heres the interesting breakdown for you. The Sabres fourth line, comprised of Zenon Konopka, John Scott and Nicolas Deslauriers, had played a total of one minute and seventeen seconds (1:17) in three well spaced shifts prior to their fourth shift when the icing infraction was called. Their third shift lasted only 20 seconds and was followed by over two minutes of rest on the bench. The fouth line then changed on the fly and skated for 21 seconds prior to a 25 second breather before play resumed following a Canuck end zone face-off. Once the puck was dropped, they skated for another 13 seconds before the whistle blew for the icing call. I dont think these finely tuned athletes would have been all that fatigued considering my unofficial ice-tracker stats. If locating a missing stick at the Sabres bench is truly a ploy to slow things down after an icing, perhaps they should pick their spot more wisely and utilize it when players really are fatigued. In any event, this play should now be "one and done!" The gauntlet has been dropped I hope. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers recalled rugged veteran forward Arron Asham from Hartford of the AHL on Monday to add much needed toughness to the struggling lineup. Woolrich Uomo Inverno 2015 . To make room for Asham, the Rangers, who lost twice at home over the weekend, sent forward J.T. Miller back to Hartford. The 35-year-old Asham had two assists and 19 penalty minutes in 12 games with Hartford this season. He played three games with the Rangers earlier this season, and recorded his 1,000th NHL penalty minute. In two seasons with the Rangers, Asham has two goals and 64 penalty minutes in 30 regular-season games. He netted two goals in 10 playoff games with New York last season. Watch the Ducks vs. Kings live on TSN tonight at 9:30pm et/6:30pm pt. The Kings, of course, were down 3-0 in the opening round against San Jose before becoming only the fourth team in NHL history to win a best-of-seven series after losing the first three meetings. L.A. hasnt slowed down a bit since completing that first-round comeback with a Game 7 win in San Jose, claiming the first two games of this series on the road. The Kings posted a 3-2 overtime win in Anaheim on Saturday before grabbing a 2-0 series lead with Mondays 3-1 triumph at the Honda Center. The Kings have gone on a few long playoff winning streaks in recent years. The club won eight straight at one point in 2012 en route to winning the franchises first Stanley Cup title and had a six-game winning streak last spring before falling in the conference finals to Chicago. "We just take it one game at a time, shift at a time, period at a time. All those things like that," said head coach Darryl Sutter of his teams current winning streak. Anaheim, meanwhile, hopes it can halt L.A.s hot streak on Thursday and avoid falling behind 3-0. A seventh straight win by the Kings would give them a chance to close the series with a sweep Saturday at the Staples Center. The top-seeded Ducks finished 16 points ahead of Los Angeles in the Pacific Division standings and went 4-0-1 against the Kings during the regular-season series, but so far that success hasnt translated to the playoffs. "We know we can beat this team," said Ducks defenseman Ben Lovejoy. "We feel weve had pretty even games, and theyve come out on top. I truly believe the playoffs are all about momentum. Right now, we need to put a seed of doubt in their mind. If we win (Game 3), its a 2-1 series and we have momentum. We can do that." Anaheim tied it near the midway point of the first, but Alec Martinnez scored the game-winner for L. Nike Free 5.0 Nere Uomo. A. at 12:07 of the first. The score remained 2-1 until Dwight King added an empty-netter in the closing minute of the third period. "Well enjoy this one night, but we have a lot of work to be done still," said Martinez. Jonathan Quick turned away 36 shots to anchor the win for the Kings. The 2012 Conn Smythe winner had stopped 69-of-72 shots sent his way in this series for a save percentage of .958. Gaborik also is having a strong series for L.A., recording three goals and an assist over the first two games to give him nine points (6 goals, 3 assists) in nine games this postseason. The Slovakian sniper was the hero of Game 1, tying it late in regulation before scoring the winner 12:07 into overtime. Anze Kopitar has been on fire for the Kings as well, notching at least one point in all nine of the clubs postseason games this spring. The star centerman had an assist on Monday and leads all skaters in the playoffs with 14 points (4g, 10a). Kopitar has reached the scoresheet in all nine games this postseason. Patrick Maroon scored the only goal of Game 2 for the Ducks, who had won all three of their home games in a 4-2 series win over Dallas in the opening round. Jonas Hiller gave up two goals on 16 shots in the loss. "This series isnt over. We can go to Staples Center, get a few bounces and bring this series back tied," said Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau. The Ducks were 3-0 on the road against the Kings during the regular season, but one of those wins came outdoors at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25. Thursdays battle will mark the first postseason game between the clubs at the Staples Center, as this series marks the first playoff encounter between L.A. and Anaheim. The Kings played Monday without defensemen Willie Mitchell and Robyn Regehr in the lineup and both players could be out again with undisclosed injuries. PRETORIA, South Africa -- Oscar Pistorius lawyers tried to roll back the prosecutions momentum at his murder trial Wednesday following the star athletes shaky testimony, presenting a forensic expert who quickly found his own credentials and findings sharply questioned. Beto Portugal Jersey . With Pistorius now back watching the proceedings from a wooden bench, the double-amputee Olympians defence team was attempting to bolster his account that he shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp by mistake through a toilet door in his home, thinking she was a dangerous intruder about to attack him in the night. Pistorius faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted of premeditated murder in Steenkamps death in the early hours of Valentines Day last year. But former police officer Roger Dixon, testifying for the defence, also appeared unsteady as chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel warned him that it was irresponsible to "try and be an expert" in areas he was not. Nel asserted in his cross-examination that Dixon was not an expert in light, sound, ballistics, gunshot wounds or pathology -- all areas about which he was testifying. Dixon worked at the police forensic laboratory in Pretoria until he left the force in December 2012. He was a specialist in analyzing materials at crime scenes. He now works in the geology department at the University of Pretoria. Nel also accused him of not answering questions directly. "For an expert you are evasive," Nel said, prompting the judge at one point to tell the energetic prosecutor to "restrain" himself. Earlier, the judge ruled that proceedings will adjourn for more than two weeks after Thursday because a member of the prosecution team has another case to attend to. The trial will resume on May 5. During the cross-examination, Nel showed that Dixons findings regarding Steenkamps gunshot wounds came from analysis of autopsy photos and from a pathologists report because he was not present at the autopsy. He also hadnt read parts of the pathology report, Nel charged. The prosecutor also criticized Dixon for not bringing photographs and his written reports with him and abruptly told him to bring them on Thursday. "I said I will," Dixon snapped back. "Good," Nel responded. Nel ridiculed Dixons finding about the sequence of the shots that Pistorius fired at Steenkamp through the door, testimony which contradicted that of a police ballistics expert and state pathologist Prof. Gert Saayman. "I use the word finding very loosely," Nel said wryly of Dixons theory. Questioned by defence lawyer Barry Roux, Dixon said he believed Steenkamp was hit in the hip and the arm in quick succession by the first two of four shots while she was standing close to the toilet door. Raising his right arm in the courtroom, Dixon indicated he believed Steenkamp may have had her right arm extended and maybe her hand on the door handle, as if she was about to open the door through which she was shot. The defence was using his testimony to try to cast doubt on the prosecutions account that Steenkamp fled to the toilet and was hiding there during a fight with Pistorius. Nel has said that the runner intentionally shot Steenkamp through the door as she faced him and while they were arguing. Nel mocked what he said was a suggestion by Dixon that Steenkamp was knocked backward by one of the bullets. "Its something you see on TV," Nel said dismissively, challenging the expert to find scientific literature that showed it was possible. Nel also pounced on Dixons concession that an audio test that the defence conducted to compare the sounds of gunshots to those of a cricket bat hitting a wood door -- which both happened on the night of the killing -- had to be done a second time because of problems with the first. He even asked him if he was an expert at swinging a cricket bat, a cutting reference to his hitting a bat on a wood door in the defences audio tests at a gun range. Dixon had also said he took part in the audio tests that showed the sounds of gunshots and of a cricket bat hitting a wood door were similar and could be confused. That is important because several neighbours have testified that they heard Steenkamp scream before shots on the fatal night, backing the prosecutions case that there was a fight before Pistorius shot his girlfriend with his 9 mm pistol. Pistorius defence says the witnesses are mistaking the sequence and they heard Pistorius screaming in a high-pitched voice for help before breaking the toilet door open with his bat to get to Steenkamp. When played by Pistorius lawyers in courts, the two noises were similar. But questioned by Nel, Dixon said the tests had to be repeated and that they were recorded and edited by a music producer who had no experience in recording gunshots. "I have no idea on the expertise of the person who recorded the sounds," Dixon said. One of them is keeping Ondrej Pavelec as the teams starting goaltender. Cheveldayoff said it was disappointing not to make the playoffs but he didnt suggest hes deviating in any big way from his draft-and-develop philosophy and that includes sticking with his 26-year-old starting netminder. "Ondrej Pavelec is the No. 1 goaltender going into next season," the general manager insisted. "Hes relatively a young goaltender when it comes to being a starting goaltender and when you give those young players those opportunities to excel theres going to be some bumps along the way." With a save percentage of .901 (70th among all goalies in the NHL) and a goals against average of 3.01 (69th) Pavelec is a frequent target of criticism. Maurice says he wouldnt have a lot to say about who plays for the team, which is a general managers job, but he had no problem at all with Pavelec as his starting netminder. "Were at a stage in our franchise where weve got three or four potentially critical pieces through our lineup that are here that weve got to make better. Weve got to put them in a position to be better then they have to be better. ... "And I think Evander Kane falls into that hole, really good young talented players that need to develop, that need to get better and I think they will get better ... In my mind, with Ondrej Pavelec, we have to do everything we can as a team to give our goaltending the best chance to win us games and that hasnt happened yet." Kane finished with only 19 goals this season, a far cry from the 30 the forward scored in 2011-12, although this season he missed 19 games -- 18 due to injuries and another as a healthy scratch, reportedly for missing a team meeting. Maurice came in as Claude Noels replacement in January and impressed Jets management as well as the players with his skills. "Hes an impressive hockey coach but hes an impressive person as well," Cheveldayoff said. "He walked in and he made a tremendous impact from the moment he walked in and we believe that were just scratching the surface on the impact he can make on this franchise moving forward." Maurice, 47, said on the phone from his current home in Ohio that he made the decision fairly early on that he wanted to stay in Winnipeg. The deal was done Tuesday and he immediately flew home to talk about it with his family and they supported him. "It didnt take much time, I called Kevin and said were in and put a sign on the front steps today," he said. Maurice guided the team to an 18-12-5 record over 35 games after Noels firing, a decision that Cheveldayoff said hurt him to the core. "Claude Noel is a tremendous coach and an even better person," he said. Noel had only part of one season as an NHL head coach on his resume when he was handed the reins of the Jets in 2011. Raul Meireles Portugal Jersey. His replacement has a career coaching record of 478-469-172 over 1,119 NHL games with the Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers franchise. Maurice, who also said Wednesday he has accepted an offer to join Team Canada as an assistant coach for the world championship, says the Jets are further along and have a better balance of youth and experience than some of the other teams hes coach in the NHL. He says that means their development should be faster. Whether the goal of making the playoffs can be achieved next year, the answer seems to be maybe, but not initially as a Stanley Cup contender. "Were trying to move to the middle of the pack, I mean the end goal here is to be a contending team, and I think there are six of those teams right now in the Western Conference, I think theres two in the Eastern Conference. . . then theres the other eight teams that are in the playoffs," he said. Winnipeg finished with a 37-35-10 record on the season and settled for an 11th-place finish in the Western Conference with 84 points. It was exactly the same record they managed in their first year in their new home in 2011-12, although the Jets were in the Eastern Conference until this season. It was also the third straight season they have missed the playoffs since relocating to Winnipeg from Atlanta. The former Atlanta Thrashers made the playoffs only once, in 2007. The Jets have a fairly long list of restricted and unrestricted free agents this season but the only one Cheveldayoff mentioned Wednesday as a player they want to keep for sure was forward and restricted free agent Michael Frolik. He finished with 42 points and met or exceeded the expectations the Jets had when they acquired him from Chicago last year. But the general manager also didnt rule out looking outside the Jets for the right unrestricted free agent or making a trade to strengthen their core group, particularly at forward. He hasnt made a lot of trades since taking on the job three years ago (only 13) and the only two that would even come close to involving higher profile players would be Frolik and Devin Setoguchi. They were also his last, in the summer of 2013. "Some of it might have to come from a trade," he said of his desire to add a winger or a centre. The Jets are still focusing on young players throughout the organization and the role they can play. At the end of the season, for example, they brought in goalie Michael Hutchinson from the AHLs St. Johns IceCaps and he won two of the three final games he played. Cheveldayoff says the core group the Jets have signed to long-term contracts continues to perform. "We like what we have in a lot of different areas here. . . Guys like Blake Wheeler had a tremendous year, Bryan Little had a tremendous year, Andrew Ladd had a tremendous year. . . We havent even touched on (Mark) Scheifele and (Jacob) Trouba." He said Scheifele and Trouba had a big impact and the two rookies are only going to get better. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

That, Smith explained Monday at a news conference, would be the "typical thoughts a defensive player (would have) with the ball." And he heeded his own advice, going 69 yards for a touchdown on that play. He added a fumble recovery later and earned MVP honours as Seattle beat Mannings Denver Broncos 43-8 for the Seahawks first NFL championship. WASHINGTON -- Doug Fister did the splits while covering first base and reached backward to make a how-did-he-do-that stab of a grounder while on the mound, adding a bit of gymnastics to another pinpoint outing. No one can accuse the 6-foot-8 righty of being either ungainly or inaccurate. He won his fourth straight start Thursday, another walk-free outing of seven innings with just two runs and four hits allowed as the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 to complete a three-game sweep. Fister (4-1) struggled in the Nationals debut last month after missing all of April with a lat strain. He hasnt allowed more than two runs in a game since. In six starts, hes walked only two batters. "Id rather them earn it," he said, "than give it away." And earning it is that much harder with a pitcher as flexible as Fister. The college first baseman did a full split while not quite hanging on to a throw to first that would have completed a double play in the first inning. "Yeah, thats not comfortable," Washington manager Matt Williams said. For the player or the manager? "For both," Williams said. Then there was the play in the third inning, when Fister flipped himself around to rob Ben Revere of a hit up the middle -- a play that proved more valuable when Jimmy Rollins followed immediately with a double. "Hes a cat out there on the mound," reliever Tyler Clippard said. "Hes getting everything." Sounds like hes the teams unofficial "pepper" champ. "I try to do a lot of work with groundballs up the middle and try to work on reaction time," Fister said. "Being able to field my position is something I take a lot of pride in." Fisters start is the latest in whats starting to look like the tough-act-to-follow rotation expected from the Nationals this season. Jordan Zimmermann threw eight scoreless innings in the series opener Tuesday, and SStephen Strasburg fanned 11 in Wednesdays win. Nike Air Max 90 Black Friday Sale. Overall, the Nationals have won five of six. They have out-scored opponents 38-12 in those half-dozen games, including 19-6 in each of the three-game series against the Texas Rangers and the Phillies. Now comes a 10-game road trip to San Diego, San Francisco and St. Louis. "We have a really hard road trip coming up against some really good teams," Williams said. "Without going too far, were happy with where were at it right now and the way its gone. We have to continue to push." It would be easier if they could keep playing the Phillies, who have lost six straight, are an NL-worst 9-20 since May 5. A team meeting on Tuesday yielded nothing productive, and Rollins can already envision a possible lost season in which key players are traded away. "Its getting out of control now," Rollins said. "Weve got a chance to go out there and change that tomorrow. If not, then thats a decision theyre going to make either way. But wed like to put a streak together going the other direction. Be up in that left column, and find a way to win some games." Kyle Kendrick (1-6) allowed four runs over seven innings and walked a season-high five. He is 1-11 in his last 19 starts, has an 11-start winless streak on the road and hasnt won a day game since 2012, going 0-6 in his last nine starts in the sunshine. But the problems are team-wide. The Phillies are batting .224 over their last 29 games. "Its been time to straighten it out," Philadelphia manager Ryne Sandberg said. BUFFALO, N. Nike Air Max 2015 Homme Pas Cher .Y. -- Ryan Miller made a statement to USA Hockey while helping the Buffalo Sabres avoid matching a dubious NHL record. Miller outplayed fellow American Olympic goaltending hopeful Jonathan Quick, making 43 saves as Buffalo edged Los Angeles 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday night to avoid tying the worst home start in NHL history. "Its nice to get a win," said Miller, the Most Valuable Player of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. "We obviously needed to do that at home. These are the kind of games where guys hang around and understand that we need to do little things to stay in hockey games when things dont go our way, and we can get a win." Cody Hodgson scored twice in regulation while Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis scored in the shootout for the Sabres (4-15-1). Miller stopped both Los Angeles shooters. "It felt great to win a game like that when youre outshot bad and outplayed," Hodgson said. "But when you have one of the best goaltenders in the world thats what happens, you know?" Buffalo was winless in its first nine home games, one short of the NHL record set by Pittsburgh in 1983-84. Justin Williams and Dwight King scored in regulation for the Kings (11-7-0), who had won their previous two games. Despite the loss, Los Angeles was the dominant team and controlled most of the play. The Kings outshot the Sabres 45-17, holding a 15-4 advantage after one period and 30-7 after two. Quick wasnt tested much until the third period and left the game with 1:20 to go in overtime with an injury. Kings coach Darryl Sutter said he "didnt really check" on Quick and did not have an update on the injury. Ben Scrivens played the remainder of the game and faced the unusual task of not seeing a shot on goal until the shootout. "Its obviously tough going into the game late like that and going into the shootout but Ive got to find a way to make a save in the shootout there," Scrivens said. "Thats my job." The Kings scored just over a minute into the game when Justin Williams shot deflected off Sabres defenceman Mark Pysyk, beating Miller low and right. The Sabres didnt register their first shot until 5:22 into the game, a moment met with one of the many jeers from the crowd. Buffalo trailed 1-0 after the first period, continuing a trend thats seen the Sabres outscored 27-3 this season in the opening 20 minutes. Hodgson tied the game in the second period off pass from Steve Ott and then gave the Sabres their first lead since Nov. 5 when he tipped home a pass from Ville Leino. "He was outstanding tonight for us, big in all areas," said Sabres head coach Ron Rolston. "He did good job out against their best players defensively and obviously he got two goals driving the net, both of them hard net drives." King forced overtime with 3:34 to play when he found a rebound in the crease and shot it past Miller. The Sabres nearly got the game-winner with under a minute to play when Ott found a streaking Moulson, who tapped the puck off the outside of the net. Millers 30th save was perhaps his finest, sticking his right pad out to deny Mike Richards look at an open net less than a minute into the third period. Miller downplayed the Olympic talk. "Hopefully theyre just looking at the way they think youre playing," Miller said. "Again, its not really about making the team right now for me, its about coming off of Anaheim and making a statement coming back that Im going to be a pro and rebound with these guys and help give them a chance to win." The Kings did not convert on any of their five power play chances, making them 0 for their last 10. Moulson also had two assists, while Ott was credited with 10 of Buffalos 31 hits. AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- Nate Marquardt tapped out James Te Huna in the first round of their main-event bout on Saturday at "UFC Fight Night: Te Huna vs. Josh Mauga Chiefs Jersey . Marquardt," New Zealands first UFC card. Te Huna, who in 2010 became the UFCs first New Zealander, thrilled the crowd with his walk-in, which featured Maori warriors performing a traditional haka war dance. The energy carried into the cage, as both Te Huna and Marquardt started in rapid fashion. But after a few big exchanges on the feet, the end would come on the floor. Battling in the clinch against the cage, Marqaurdt (33-13-2) threw Te Huna (16- to the canvas and moved immediately into mount. When Te Huna rolled to escape, Marquardt went to the back and then slipped off to the side, trapping the arm and extending it to earn a submission win with 26 seconds left in the opening round. "An armbar was not part of my plan," said Marquardt. "It just sort of happened." The nights heavyweight co-feature was a little light on action, but Jared Rosholt (11-1) picked up a one-sided decision win over Australian fan-favourite Soa Palelei (21-4). It was Rosholts wrestling pedigree that earned him the win, utilizing a grinding grappling attack to bring Palelei repeatedly to the floor and preventing him from really ever launching any sort of attack. The crowd often booed the slow-paced fight, but at the end of 15 minutes, it was clear Rosholt had done enough to win the fight, and he was awarded the victory with three scores of 30-27. "I was a little disappointed with that win," Rosholt admitted. "I had a vision to dominate, which I did, but not in the fashion I wanted. "My last few fights have gone the distance, which is disappointing but proves that I have the conditioning, which is definitely an advantage at this weight class." In a grappling-heavy featherweight matchup, Charles Oliveira (18-4) scored an impressive submission win over fellow jiu-jitsu ace Hatsu Hioki (27-8-2). The entertaining matchup saw both men transition and sweep to dominant positions on the floor while seeking submission opportunities. Multiple attempts came from both men, but it was a modified guillotine choke in the second round that sealed the victory for Oliveira. Trapped in the hold, Hioki was forced to tap out for the first time in his career. "My opponent tonight was very tough and challenging," Oliveira admitted after the fight. "I studied all of his fights and knew he would be tough. "I know we are in New Zealand, but you always hear Brazilians in the crowd. They are the most passionate fight fans and always make lot of noise. Tonight, they inspired me to take the win." In the nights first main-card matchup, New Zealand native Robert Whittaker (13-4) picked up an impressive decision win over fellow welterweight Mike Rhodes (6-3). Whittaker, the former winner of "The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes," was the better striker throughout the three-round affair, using crisp boxing to pick apart his opponent with a sharp jab and powerful right hand. Rhodes was a game opponent, offering counters until the end and never seeming to slow, but Whittakers relentless attack earned him all three rounds, and he was awarded an unanimous-decision win with scores of 30-27 across the board. "The game plan was to throw as many weapons at my opponent as possible," Whittaker said after the win. "Hats off to Mike -- he gave a lot and definitely took a lot of shots. TAMPA, Fla. -- Justin Peters deserved a much better outcome after a stellar 47-save performance. Radko Gudas scored 2:16 into overtime and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat Peters and the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Saturday night. "Sometimes the goaltender is the best player on the ice, and he was tonight," Lightning coach Jon Copper said about Peters. "Fortunately for us, we got that extra one by him." Gudas beat Peters, who kept the Hurricanes in the game with a number of great saves, from the right circle during a 3-on-1. "I wasnt 100 per cent sure if I could make a pass," Gudas said. Gudas helped setup the odd-man rush with a check on Jeff Skinner, who lost his stick on the play, in the Tampa Bay defensive zone. Victor Hedman and Martin St. Louis also scored for the Lightning. Valtteri Filppula had two assists. "It was real hot in there," Peters said. "They were throwing a lot of rubber at the net. We battled. We battled hard, and unfortunately, we werent able to get the two points." Carolinas Jiri Tlusty had a pair of goals. "Our goalie stole a point for us tonight," Carolina coach Kirk Muller said. "Obviously, he was the difference for us." St. Louis re-directed Hedmans shot during a power play 7:56 into the third that pulled the Lightning even at 2-2. The Hurricanes went up 2-1 on Tlustys short-handed breakaway goal at 10:11 of the second. Carolina has seven short-handed goals this season, all coming on the road. TORONTO -- It goes down as a comfortable win. But it was far from an impressive performance. "We set basketball back 15 years in the first half," Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey quipped after his team defeated the Orlando Magic 105-90 at the Air Canada Centre Sunday night. "But like I told our guys, were going to have a lot of games where were going to have to grind it out," Casey said. "For whatever reason, we struggle in the first half and then come through, turn it on. "But I also think thats a little bit of growth on our part." After shooting a woeful 41.7 per cent from the field in the first half, the Raptors shot 12-for-14 in the third quarter to blow the game open on the way to win their second straight and fifth in six outings. "Just coming out with a different kind of intensity," point guard Kyle Lowry said when asked about the key to turning things around in the second half. "Weve got to figure out a way to start the game the way we start third quarters. "Thats how weve got to come out from now on." Lowry had 17 points in the third as the Raptors (31-25) widened a three-point halftime lead to 15. Lowry, who was just 1-for-7 from the field in the first half, hit all five of his attempts in the third quarter. He had four from beyond the three-point arc in the period, including a 25-footer at the buzzer which brought the crowd of 17,435 to their feet. Lowry scored the final 14 points for the Raptors in the third quarter and the first two of the fourth quarter as Toronto stretched the lead to as much as 18 points. Toronto is six games above .500 for the first time since Feb.. Nike Free 5.0 Nere Uomo. 24, 2010, when they were also 31-25. Facing the struggling Magic (17-41), the Raptors were uncharacteristically sloppy, turning the ball over 24 times, which led to 25 Orlando points and allowed the visitors to keep the game close. "Were not that good of a team to just ease our way into the game," Lowry said. "Weve got to come out and play with our hard-nosed and hard-headed intensity from the start." Lowry scored 28 points, including four three-pointers to run his career-high mark to 134 this season. DeMar DeRozan added 24 points for the Raptors, who had five players score in double-figures. Amir Johnson left midway through the third quarter with what was described by Raptors personnel as a right ankle sprain. He had 12 points and eight rebounds in 23 minutes before leaving. Casey said it didnt appear Johnson hurt it as badly as earlier in the season when he missed two games. Tobias Harris matched Lowrys 28 points to lead Orlando, which fell to 3-26 on the road. It was the Magics 15th straight loss away from home. The Raptors led 19-14 after the first quarter; 44-41 at the half and 80-65 going into the fourth. "You cant put your finger on the slow starts," DeRozan said. "Maybe we like a challenge sometimes by putting ourselves in a tough situation, so we can fight our way out. "We have to stop that and understand that we have to come out of the gate, so we dont make the game that hard on us." RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. Jaromir Jagr Jersey . -- Second-ranked Suzann Pettersen withdrew from the Kraft Nabisco Championship on Tuesday because of an aggravated disk in her back. The Norwegian also withdrew last week before the Kia Classic in Carlsbad. She released a statement through the LPGA Tour, saying: "I dearly love this event and would do anything to play. At this point, I just need to be smart and not make a bad situation worse." Pettersen also missed the season-opening event in the Bahamas because of a shoulder injury. She won four times last season and has 14 career LPGA Tour victories. The Kraft Nabisco, the first major championship of the season, begins Thursday at Mission Hills. Pettersen tied for third last season. Rob Scuderi Jersey . "Im not sure Ill be back next season," said Mike Gillis. Speaking to the Team 1040 in Vancouver on Thursday, the Canucks general manager spoke of his clubs failure to live up to the success of past years, but refused to heap all the blame on his coach. "John is a proven winner and competitor," said Gillis. "The running of this team is my responsibility and I feel that the last few seasons we have been chasing goal posts that have been moving and got away from our core principles of how I want this team to play and how we want to perform and the tempo we want to play with. "People want someone to blame but the reality is that as an organization we have deviated from things that have been successful and I know will be successful. We will get back to those levels and that style of play that we started six years ago and we have the personnel to do it." Gillis added that believes that the system in place is solid enough for any coach to find success, but acknowledges that the Canucks failures this season are broad. "If given the resources and the players are committed to it, any coach can coach the team that he has," explained Gillis. "But having said that, our problems are far reaching and will be addressed. If people dont want to get onside with how I view this team and how its supposed to play then they wont be here.” Gillis also said that he believes that everybody in the organization, from top to bottom, is in line to go under the microscope at seasons end. "I think everybody is open for evaluation," he said. "Weve had players who have severely underperformed. Our team has underperformed. I think that were all open for evaluation and deserve evaluation and thats whats going to come. Well go through a thorough evalutaion of what occurred this year. Well go through a thorough plan of where we see we have to go and theyll make a decision about what route theyll choose." Now in his sixth year leading the Canucks front office, Gillis admits that this season has brought him frustration unlike any other. "Weve had a lot of success in the past and none of this sits well with me," he explained. "Its been an incredibly frustrating season on a variety of diffferent levels. Tie Domi Rangers Jersey. For me, Im committed to getting back on the levels that we expect and we have a plan do it. "We had a plan six years to do it and we got as close as we could get. We learned a lot of lessons from that and Im tired of chasing a moving target. We are going to get back to the fundamentals and the principles that I believe in and thats how were going to play. Like I said, if people dont want to comply, and we did this six years ago, we made hard choices. Those hard choices are going to come again if we dont see people get on the same page." One player that Gillis refused to fault in his teams struggles is goaltender Eddie Lack, who became the teams starting goaltender following the trade of Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers at the deadline. "You get people in Toronto who just love to carve the Vancouver Canucks and its going to be unending, so were used to it now, but its unfortunate for a young guy like Eddie Lack," said Gillis. "Eddie is a very special player. Hes got great personality, hes got great size and his emergence allowed us to think a little bit differently about where we were going." For his money, Gillis thinks Lack should be in the conversation for the leagues top rookie. "If we had given Eddie any run support this season, he would certainly be, in my mind, a nominee for the Calder," posited Gillis. "He probably wouldnt win it, but he should be in consideration based on the way hes played. Hes lost more one-goal games than any goalie in the league. Hes second in the league in shutouts with half the games played." Gillis also expressed his faith in his goaltending tandem on the whole, including the recently acquired Jakob Markstrom, who came over from the Panthers in the Luongo deal. "I think Jakob Markstrom is another 24-year-old goalie who has all the attributes to be a top-flight goalie in the National Hockey League," he said. "I feel strongly that we have two young guys who are in their prime. I hope our fans get behind them and support them." The Canucks currently sit 10th in the Western Conference, six points behind the Dallas Stars for the final wild card playoff spot. The Stars also have two games in hand on the Canucks. LOS ANGELES -- A. Adidas Superstar 2 Günstige .J. Ellis hit an RBI single in the ninth inning, Hanley Ramirez hit a tape-measure, three-run homer in the first against Cliff Lee and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 on Saturday night. Philadelphias Chase Utley homered in his first two career at-bats against Hyun-Jin Ryu. But the Dodgers won for the seventh in eight games, bouncing back from a 16-1 loss Friday that was the franchises most lopsided at home since a 19-2 rout by the New York Giants on July 3, 1947 -- during Jackie Robinsons rookie season. Ramirez led off the ninth against rookie Justin De Fratus (2-3) with a single before Matt Kemp took a called third strike. De Fratus walked Andre Ethier before Ellis lined a 2-2 pitch to right, scoring Ramirez. Kenley Jansen (2-3) got the win. He came in trying to protect a 3-2 lead in the ninth for Ryu, but was charged with his third blown save in 10 chances as a result of some shoddy defence by his teammates. Michael Young led off the ninth with a single down the right-field line and continued to second when rookie Yasiel Puig misplayed the ball for an error. Young advanced on Utleys groundout and held up on Jimmy Rollins shallow fly to centre fielder Kemp, whose hurried throw to the plate was about 20 feet to the first base side and bounced away from catcher Ellis, allowing Young to dash home with the tying run. Domonic Brown followed with a triple to left field that Ethier -- playing out of position -- had difficulty tracking. But Jansen came back to strike out Delmon Young. Lee gave up three runs and four hits in seven innings and struck out 10, after going 7-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his previous 10 starts. The left-hander, five years removed from his only Cy Young Award, escaped a based-loaded, no-out jam in the fourth by starting a 1-2-3 double play on a dribbler to the left of the mound by Ellis and then retiring Juan Uribe on a groundout. Ryu allowed two runs, seven hits and three walks in seven innings and struck out six. Lefty Paco Rodriguez relieved Ryu and faced one batter, retiring Brown on a foul popup. Then righty Ronald Belisario came in, and the Phillies loaded the bases on a single by Young, a double by pinch-hitter Laynce Nix and an intentional walk to Ben Revere. Uribe then fielded Carlos Ruizs grounder to third base and got the force at the plate, with Ruiz just beating the relay to first by Ellis. Slumping slugger Ryan Howard, who was not in the starting lineup for this game and Friday nights because left-handers were starting for the Dodgers, was sent up to hit for Lee and Los Angeles countered with lefty J.P. Howell. Manager Charlie Manuel took the bat out of Howards strong hands and sent up Kevin Frandsen, who was robbed of a hit by shortstop Ramirez on a grounder up the middle. Ramirez smothered the ball and made a backhanded flip to second baseman Mark Ellis for the force on Ruiz. Puig, who has hit safely in 21 of his first 25 major league games, triggered the Dodgers first-inning rally with a single before Lee walked Adrian Gonzalez. Ramirez drove the next pitch an estimated 439 feet to centre field, where it landed on top of an elevated platform where the anchor desk for the Dodgers postgame show sits. It was only the second homer Lee has given up on the road this season in 82 innings. Utley, the second batter Ryu faced in his first career start against the Phillies, drove a 1-1 pitch deep into the right-field pavilion and then hit a 0-1 delivery into the lower seats in the right-field corner two innings later. It was Utleys 20th career multihomer effort, and marked the first time he went deep twice in a game against the same pitcher since April 28, 2009 -- when he did it against current teammate John Lannan in a 7-1 win over the Washington Nationals at Philadelphia. Revere, who had three hits against Ryu and eight during the first three games of this series, doubled into the right-field corner with two outs in the sixth and the ball caromed off the Puigs left foot and over the short wall. Manuel came out to argue with first base umpire Bill Miller that Revere could have made it to third without Puigs impetus, but it remained a ground-rule double. NOTES: Dodgers RHP Josh Beckett is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery in about 1 1-2 weeks to relieve pressure on the nerve in his neck. The announcement was made by the club following a consultation Beckett had with team physician Neal ElAttrache and Dr. Greg Pearl of Dallas, who will perform the surgery there. "I know he had some tingling again yesterday after throwing," manager Don Mattingly said. "He didnt throw very long. I know there was a little bit of a setback there." ... The Phillies have pushed back struggling LHP Cole Hamels two days in the rotation to next Thursday at Pittsburgh, which would give him seven days rest between starts. The 2008 World Series MVP and NLCS MVP is 2-11 with a 4.58 ERA in 17 outings and leads the majors in losses. "He might benefit by clearing his head," Manuel said. "Hes totally healthy. We just want to give him a blow and see if it wont help him some, and see if it can get him feeling good about himself." ... Dodgers RHP Peter Moylan, who gave up five runs over two innings after relieving Chris Capuano in Fridays game, was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. The club purchased the contract of RHP Jose Dominguez from Albuquerque. This will be his first trip to the big leagues. ... Mark Ellis was 0 for 3 against Lee, and has four hits in 29 career at-bats against him. ... A moment of silence was observed for Justin Miller, who spent the final season of his seven-year career with the Dodgers in 2010 and made 19 relief appearances. He died Wednesday at age 35. Josh Collmenter threw seven sharp innings, David Peralta drove in a pair of runs and the Diamondbacks beat the Cubs 3-1 on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts know that no single player can replace wide receiver Reggie Wayne. Still, Indy will need to be more effective and balanced in its passing game since Wayne is out for the season with a torn right ACL. The Colts continued their winning ways with a 27-24 comeback victory against the Houston Texans last Sunday night. But they got off to a slow start in their first game without their 13-year veteran receiver who stabilized the offence and provided a veteran presence for Andrew Luck. T.Y. Hilton caught seven passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns against Houston, but Indy still is looking for more from the rest of the receiving group heading into Sundays home game against the St. Louis Rams. The Colts say the passing game has the talent to step forward with receivers Darrius Heyward-Bey and Griff Whalen, running back Trent Richardson and tight end Coby Fleener. "This team has always bought into the mentality and the mindset of next man up," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. "We havent wavered from that. They havent wavered from that. Fortunately, weve been successful and weve been able to overcome. So, from a confidence standpoint, thats why these guys dont flinch." Offensive co-ordinator Pep Hamilton said Luck trusts his receivers, so his approach wont change. "I think Andrew has done a pretty good job of distributing the ball to different guys, and thats a big part of our system and our approach," he said. "Defensively, they cant zero in on one guy and scheme up a way to take that one guy away. Those guys (other receivers), I think theyre up to the challenge." Luck was one of the leagues most efficient passers in the first half of the season, but he completed just 18 of 40 passes against Houston in his first game as a pro without his favourite target. Hilton noticed things were much different without Wayne early. "It wasnt the same not having him out there in that first half,," Hilton said. Adidas Superstar Schwarz Weiß. "So we went back in there the second half, adjusted -- we had to man up. Since 87 wasnt there, somebody had to make a play." Hilton already was starting to garner attention. Now, as Lucks No. 1 target, hell be an even bigger focus of defensive game plans. He enters 12th in the AFC with 533 yards receiving. "His numbers will certainly change because of the loss of Reggie, which is very unfortunate," Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. "It appears that obviously hes able to do the same things. Theyre moving him around, asking a lot of different things of him. Hes got exceptional speed. He can make the tough catch. Hes got run-after-catch ability." There were bright spots on Sunday. Fleener had three catches for 64 yards, and he caught a 2-point conversion in the fourth quarter that gave Indianapolis a 27-24 lead with four minutes left. Richardson, the Colts running back, caught two passes for 33 yards against Houston after catching just two passes in the previous five games combined. The Colts are trying to find ways to get him more opportunities in the passing game. "We know hes got that ability," Pagano said. "I think as he gets more comfortable with the scheme and terminology and all those types of things and the game, the situation, the score, all those things kind of line up -- if the stars all line up wed love to get him in space more and get the ball in his hands more." Not all the connections went well on Sunday. The Colts targeted Whalen nine times, and he caught just three passes. Heyward-Bey was targeted six times and caught just one pass. Luck said hes looking ahead. "I think you hopefully learn from your mistakes," he said. "We did some good things. Its nice to say, We can win without Reggie in the lineup. Its a mental sort of checklist thing thats nice. Hopefully, you learn from the mistakes more than anything from the past game. LAS VEGAS -- A huge double takeout by Olympics-bound Brad Jacobs played a huge role in giving Team North America the lead at the Continental Cup on Thursday. Terry Bradshaw Womens Jersey . Jacobs made a double takeout to blank the seventh end in his traditional team-play showdown against Team Worlds Niklas Edin. And in the eighth end, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., native made an open hit to score one for a 4-3 victory. Jacobs win was part of a clean sweep of the evening games, giving Team North America a 6-3 lead on Team World. The first team reaching 30.5 points by Sundays final day will win the title. "That feels great," said Jacobs, who will skip Canada at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. "That was my first game ever, all of our (his teammates) first games, at the Continental Cup and that was a blast." "That was a no-risk shot," said Jacobs of the blank attempt in the seventh end. "If we hit one of the back ones and give up a steal, its not the worst, coming up with hammer. It was a no-fear shot; I threw it real aggressive and it worked out perfect." In other action, Team North Americas Rachel Homan of Ottawa was a 6-4 winner over Team Worlds Margaretha Sigfridsson. Homans rink stole a deuce in the sixth end to turn the game around when Sigfridssons last-rock thrower, Maria Prytz, couldnt execute a hit-and-roll to score. "Just barely," said Homan about the victory. "But that was good. My whole team played well and so did Sigfridssons. Pretty excited about the three-team sweep tonight." In the other evening game, Team North Americas John Shuster hung on for a 5-3 win over Team Worlds David Murdoch. Shuster, who will skip the United States in Sochi, scored two in the fourth end and never looked back. Jon Cornish lay face down on the field in the fourth quarter after the Stampeders running back took a high, hard hit on the run from Alouettes linebacker Kyries Hebert. It looked grim for the CFLs leading rusher and most outstanding player in 2013 when an ambulance was summoned onto the field. But an immediate trip to the hospital wasnt required as the 29-year-old from New Westminster, B.C., got up and walked to the clubhouse accompanied by medical staff. "I was knocked out," Cornish said following the game. "Im going to have to go through concussion protocol 100 per cent. "Youd expect me to feel a little bit worse, but Im pretty good. I can remember what happened before and immediately after." What happened a few minutes before that play was Cornish running for an 18-yard touchdown off a direct snap to pad Calgarys lead to 26-1. The Stampeders posted the CFLs best record last season at 14-4 and were quick out of the gates to start 2014. An opening-day starter for the first time in his CFL career, quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was efficient throwing for 313 yards, a pair of touchdowns and zero interceptions. The Texan completed 16 of 25 passes. He threw out of Calgarys end zone to Maurice Price for a 102-touchdown pass in the opening quarter and tossed to Anthony Parker for another major in the fourth. Rene Paredes kicked a pair of field goals and punter Rob Maver contributed two punt singles in front of announced attendance of 26,135 at McMahon Stadium. Cornish had 67 yards on 14 carries before leaving the game. "I thought we played very physical on both sides of the football and special teams, we played fast," Stampeder coach and general manager John Hufnagel said. "I think we took a first right step going in the direction we want to go. A lot of work to be done though." Montreal, 8-10 last season, have large wrinkles to iron out on both sides of the football. Troy Smiths season debut for the Alouettes marked the first time since 1999 a quarterback other than Anthony Calvillo was Montreals opening-day starter. The CFLs all-time passing leader retired in January after 16 seasons with the Alouettes. Smith, a former Heisman Trophy winner with Ohio State, completed 17 of 40 passes for 127 yards. He was sacked four times and intercepted once. Sean Whytes punt single was Montreals only point until fullback Steven Lumbala dove for a one-yard major on the final play of the game. A gaffe by Montreals secondary left Price open for his touchdown as the Als had two defenders on Calgary receiver Jeff Fuller. "I dont feel good at all," Smith said. "Theres a whole different feel when you leave the field after a weeks work of preparation and nothing works. "You definitely have to look yourself in the mirror and you have to understand that things arent going to go the exact ideal way that you want them to all the time. Tiago Mendes Portugal Jersey. "Youve got to go back to the drawing board and accept the Calgary Stampeders played a great game today. They game-planned and they paid also, and they made plays." Former NFL star receiver Chad Johnson had two catches for 20 yards in his CFL debut. "Ive got a long way to go, man," Johnson said. "With this being my first time experiencing a real live game with the bullets flying, the level of competition is really not that far off from the NFL and the speed of the game is equivalent." Hebert was slapped with a major foul and ejected for his hit on Cornish. Calgary parlayed Montreals 25-yard penalty into another touchdown as Mitchell threw to Parker in the end zone. Cornish says hes yet to be diagnosed with a concussion in his career. The leagues top rusher the past two seasons said he bore Hebert no ill-will. "I dont really blame him," Cornish said. "I got a pretty good cut block on him earlier in the game, so thats how it goes sometimes." Hufnagel had said it was a "photo finish" between Mitchell and Drew Tate in choosing a first-day starting quarterback. Mitchell cleaned up his game considerably Saturday after a pre-season loss to the Lions a week earlier, when he completed half his pass attempts and was intercepted twice. The quarterback checked off the boxes of throwing touchdowns, moving the offence and not allowing any interceptions Saturday. "Im still not going to check the box of going out and doing exactly what I wanted to do and thats just making sure were executing on everything we can," Mitchell said. "A couple plays early on I can myself clean up. "I felt like there was a quarter where we didnt move the ball very well. I felt like I played good, but its easy when your receivers are making those kind of plays and your O-line is giving you time." Paredes, winner of the CFLs special-teams player award last season, booted field goals from 25 and 38 yards in the game. Maver kicked punt singles of 78 and 88 yards. Whyte was wide on a 39-yard attempt midway through the first quarter. Calgarys defence held the Als under 100 offensive yards in the first half when Charleston Hughes, Corey Mace and DeQuin Evans each recorded sacks and Hughes knocked down a pass. Juwan Simpson also sacked Smith later in the game. Cornerback Fred Bennett would have collected two interceptions in the half had his second not been negated by Deron Mayos horse-collar tackle on Smith. The Stampeders head immediately into their bye week. Their next game is in Toronto against the Argonauts on July 12. The Als host the B.C. Lions on Friday. Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork. Jarret Stoll Rangers Jersey .com) - Ryan Kesler tallied at the 58-second mark of overtime, just after a power play expired, giving Anaheim a 3-2 victory over San Jose at Honda Center. San Joses Brent Burns committed a high-sticking infraction in the final 67 seconds of regulation, and Antti Niemi made a lunging glove stop on Kesler with 23.8 on the clock to help get his team beyond regulation. Niemi was powerless to stop Keslers second chance, an overpowering slapshot from the left circle which rippled the net under the crossbar on the far side. He stopped me at the far post a few times. Third time is a charm, Kesler deadpanned. Rickard Rakell netted his first NHL regular-season goal and Cam Fowler also lit the lamp for the Ducks, who were coming off a 6-2 loss in Ottawa which concluded a five-game road trip. Frederik Andersen came up with 30 saves for the win. Joe Pavelski and Melker Karlsson supplied offense for the Sharks, whose five- game win streak came to a halt. Niemi stopped 29 pucks in the loss. To win in this building is tough, Sharks head coach Todd McLellan said. I think we have to take some satisfaction that we came from behind in the third. Rackells milestone occurred at the 7:20 mark of the second period, when he popped a loose puck over Niemi from atop the crease. The young Swede was only allowed near the rebound because Niemi mishandled a dump-in from the right corner by Emerson Etem which crept up his stick. It feels good. Christmas is saved, Rakell joked. Pavelskis power-play goal at two minutes even of the third period tied the game, before Karlssons first-ever goal came with 7:56 gone in the third, a harmless low drive from the right wing which somehow squeezed through Andersen. Fowler then moved up from his point position and scored on a nifty backhander in close off a Ryan Getzlaf dish for a 2-2 game with 4:16 to play. "Its been a long time and Ive been wanting to get out there," Oden said after his preseason debut in Miamis 108-95 victory at New Orleans on Wednesday night. "It was only a couple minutes, but it was what I needed, what I can handle right now and, you know, small baby steps." Oden is attempting to come back from knee injuries that have plagued him since he was drafted first overall out of Ohio State in 2007. The last time he played in an NBA game was on Dec. 5, 2009, for the Portland Trail Blazers. Not long after he came in against the Pelicans, he scored his only points of the night on a dunk, which was also his only shot. He also grabbed a pair of defensive rebounds. "It was a very special moment," LeBron James said of Odens appearance. "I have no idea what my feeling would be like, being away from the game for three years. It was like a proud moment, man. I was so excited for him when he got on the court and he checked in -- and his first basket he gets a dunk. Can you write it any better? Obviously hes not where he wants to be, but the process is going great. "I can just imagine how excited he was to get back out there," James continued. "Im going to have to take a toast for him, man. I aint no drinker, but I might have to take a shot for him. It was an absolutely great moment." Miami is a team used tto celebrating NBA championships after winning the past two. Eric Fehr Jersey. Oden was gratified to see how much it also meant to the Heat to see him show the first small sign of a successful return to the game he loves, and missed. "In December it would be four years, so four minutes, thats enough for me," Oden said. "As long as I got out there and I walked off and Im healthy, thats all that matters. "I know the guys were happy for me," Oden added. "I definitely felt love. And Im excited that they were there for me." Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra said Odens face "lit up" when he told him he was going to put him in the game. "We are just so pleased for him," Spoelstra said. "It was just great to see him do something he loves to do. It was taken away from him for four years. We just continue to make patient, steady progress forward from here." James scored 27 points and Dwyane Wade added 25 for the Heat, who trailed after three quarters but opened the fourth with a 21-2 run. Wade hit a 3 during the decisive surge, then stole the ball for a breakaway jam. Ray Allen did all his scoring with three straight 3s to make it 98-84. Chris Bosh had 14 points and nine rebounds for Miami (5-2), and Chris Andersen added 13 points. Eric Gordon scored 19 for New Orleans (6-1), while Anthony Davis had 18 points and eight rebounds. Anthony Morrow added 16 points, Jrue Holiday 12 and Ryan Anderson 10. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. Nike Free 3.0 Flyknit Uomo . -- When Trey Burke took the floor shortly before tip-off, he was the only Utah player to come out of the tunnel at first. Burkes teammates stayed behind, playing a little joke on the rookie point guard by leaving him alone on the court for a few seconds before eventually joining him. "I was mad at the guys, because that was embarrassing, but they do little things like that to me once in a while," Burke said. Burke should have expected a prank like that, because this was his return to Michigan -- and for the most part, it was an enjoyable one. He had 20 points and a career-high 12 assists, leading the Jazz to a 110-89 rout of the Detroit Pistons on Friday night. Burke, who was the national player of the year at Michigan last season and led the Wolverines to the Final Four, had plenty of supporters in the crowd at the Palace. He shook off a slow start and outplayed Detroit counterpart Brandon Jennings as the Jazz built a big lead. "That felt good. We had a lot of fun out there," Burke said. "Im not even going to lie. I was nervous at the start, and I had to get my nerves calmed down. My family was here, and all the people who have supported me in Michigan, and I knew this was my only chance to play in front of them this year." Enes Kanter added 18 points for Utah and Marvin Williams scored 17. Rodney Stuckey led the Pistons with 21, but Detroit looked flat for much of the game after a five-day layoff. "We worked real hard this week, and put a good effort in this week," Detroit centre Andre Drummond said. "To come out like we did tonight, we took a step back." The Pistons had a chance to draft Burke with the No. 8 pick last year, but took Kentavious Caldwell-Pope instead. Burke signed autographs before the game, and when his Utah teammates left him alone on the court, it gave the crowd a chance to give the young point guard a cheer. Burke got another ovation when he was announced with the Utah starters, and the Jazz opened the scoring when he made a clever pass to Derrick Favors for a dunk. The crowd at the Palace was announced at 18,528, and there was plenty of maize and blue around. Burke didnt score until the second quarter, when his 3-pointer put the Jazz up 44-37. A steal and a layup by Burke made it 50-42, and there were some boos for the home team when Utah took a 58-45 lead into halftime. The second half didnt start any better for Detroit. The Jazz scored the first eight points of the third quarter and led 66-45 after a dunk by Favours. "It was unexplainable to me," Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks said. "Maybe the days off affected us in terms of getting up and down the floor." Burke had nine points and five assists in the third, capping the quarter with a driving floater off the glass in the final seconds for an 89-65 lead. "He looked tight early on, and I decided to play him a longer stretch than a shorter one to let him play himself into a rhythm. He was throwing great passes, and that got him into the offence," Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said. "You always root for guys who are playing at home. He wanted to show the fans how much he has developed his game, and he did that." Utahs lead reached 29 in the fourth. Detroits vaunted front line of Drummond, Greg Monroe and Josh Smith combined for only 18 points on 5-of-18 shooting. Smith and Monroe made only one field goal each. Detroit passed up a chance to draft Burke, the local favourite, and instead the Pistons addressed the point-guard spot by trading for Jennings, who has impressed at times but been inconsistent. He scored 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting Friday. Burke turned the ball over seven times, but he surpassed his previous career high in assists with a pass to a cutting Jeremy Evans in the fourth quarter for a 98-72 lead. Burke had 11 assists against San Antonio on Wednesday. NOTES: Utah went 9 of 22 from 3-point range and played the Pistons to a 44-all tie in the paint. ... Kyle Singler scored 13 points for the Pistons. Drummond had 10 points and 13 rebounds. The (30-26-7) Jets have earned five of a possible six points in their last three games and enter tonight with 67 points.? They trail Dallas by one point for a Western Conference Wild Card playoff spot.SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Sharks had little time to dwell on losing their lead before Joe Pavelski put them back ahead again.Pavelski scored less than a minute after Minnesota tied the game early in the third period, and Alex Stalock made 18 saves against his hometown team to lead the Sharks to their seventh win in eight games, 2-1 over the Wild on Thursday night. They had just got one, Pavelski said. We felt we were playing good. We couldnt revert to any other way. So we came out that next shift.Brent Burns also scored and Joe Thornton had two assists for the Sharks, who have won five straight at home after a slow start to the season at the Shark Tank.Christian Folin scored his first career goal to tie the game just 45 seconds before Pavelskis goal, and the Wild lost for the 10th time in their past 11 games in San Jose. Darcy Kuemper made 28 saves. When you give up a goal right after you score, it hurts, forward Zach Parise said. When you come up short, something is not good enough. After the teams combined for just one goal in the first 40 minutes, they each scored once in the opening 2 minutes of the third period.Minnesota struck first following a weak clearing attempt from Tommy Wingels that ended up right on Folins stick at the point. Folins blast got through a screen from Jason Zucker to tie it.But the Sharks answered quickly when Thornton set up Pavelski for a one-timer from the top of the circle that beat Kuemper. It was Pavelskis 15th goal of the season and sixth in eight games. Those two obviously have a connection, coach Todd McLellan said. Its a goal scorers goal. He shot it in stride. It wasnt in his wheelhouse but he still put it in the right spot.Stalock, a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, made the lead stand up in his first game against the Wild. His best save might have come llate in the third on a one-timer from Jared Spurgeon. Woolrich Sito Ufficiale Outlet. .There was traffic in front, Stalock said. He had one place to shoot it, I figured, where there wasnt any traffic. I got a push over a little late but got a piece of it. Luckily enough it stayed in front of me.The Sharks broke a scoreless tie late in the second period after Nate Prosser was sent to the penalty box for interference. Justin Braun fed Burns for a one-timer from the point that appeared to deflect off Spurgeons stick and past Kuemper.Despite getting only 14 shots in the first two periods, the Wild had plenty of chances earlier to get on the board but couldnt capitalize. Kyle Brodziak hit the post on an odd-man rush with Minnesota short-handed in the first period.Logan Couture then made a couple of big defensive plays to keep the game scoreless earlier in the second, deflecting a wraparound attempt by Thomas Vanek and breaking up a 2-on-1 chance by Parise with a strong backcheck. Spurgeon passed on a chance to shoot on that rush before his pass to Parise was broken up.That was the story of the game, Wild coach Mike Yeo said. Youre lucky enough to get one or two 2-on-1s and when we get four 2-on-1s and dont even get a shot off, thats the game.Stalock also made a good save on Jason Pominville later in the second as the Wild failed to convert on numerous odd-man rushes.NOTES: Thorntons two assists gave him 1,220 career points, moving past Jean Beliveau into 39th place on the NHL scoring list. ...
