NEW YORK -- What if they put tiny cameras on players to get more dramatic TV angles? What if serves that dribbled over the net were fair game? What if servers were on a 20-second clock to start points? And how about scrapping the pre-match warmup so matches actually start on time? These are among the possible tennis tweaks and changes a top U.S. Tennis Association official says are being seriously discussed, in some cases actually being experimented with, as the games leaders brainstorm ways to -- someday -- make play at the highest pro levels faster and more television-friendly.And she says a changing of the guard underway at the top of the mens and womens games makes it a good time to do it.We want to innovate, but we have to do it in such a way that we bring the players along, says Stacey Allaster, the USTAs chief executive of professional tennis, cautioning that any such changes should undergo deliberate incubation at that games lower tiers rather than debuting on the games top level.Thats the idea of experimenting with a 20-second serve clock this year at the U.S. Opens junior and college invitational tournaments. While its not clear yet whether matches have indeed moved along more quickly, it apparently has had an effect: Out of 260 matches so far, 24 serve clock warnings have been issued, and none resulted in a repeat violation that would have resulted in a penalty point.I love it, says Danielle Collins, a two-time NCAA singles champion at Virginia who won the Opens collegiate title Saturday. Because in college tennis people stall really badly. . Its crazy how long people are taking between points.Thats been a point of contention on the pro tours for years because instead of employing a clock, any warnings or penalty points issued over slow play are left entirely to the umpires discretion. That tension was on full view during Fridays mens semifinals, when both Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori were warned about slow play, as was Gael Monfils in his match against Novak Djokovic, responding to the umpire by essentially saying, if you want me to speed up, penalize me.Other ideas that have been discussed, according to Allaster: eliminating the service let, which would allow serves that hit the net and fall in to be playable; tighter policing of player bathroom and injury breaks; and reducing or eliminating the pre-match warmup hit, which can delay the scheduled start of matches. The NCAA implemented that idea in its championships this year.If a fan tunes into ESPN for a 4 oclock match and it doesnt start until 4:15, we probably would have lost them because they will start to click and they will click onto another sport, Allaster says. So we have to be quicker in getting to the show.Allaster, who came to the USTA recently after serving as chief executive of the Womens Tennis Association, said technology is another avenue of change. Allaster noted that shot-spotting technology to determine if balls are in or out, which has been a part of the Open since 2006, had the added benefit of helping fans get more engaged. The same could happen, she says, if tiny cameras are put on players bodies or hats. People could see what its like to return one of these big serves.Allaster noted that the Open is open to change, noting it remains the only Grand Slam tournament that decides the final set with a tiebreaker, and that its mixed doubles event now features no-ad scoring, meaning that at 40-40, one more point decides the game rather than one side having to win two in a row. Also, all the other Grand Slam events with the exception of Wimbledon have gone to a best-of-three format for mens doubles instead of best of five. But going to no-ad scoring in more events or to best-of-three in mens singles at the Grand Slam level are not ideas that have gotten much serious discussion, Allaster said, even with the unusual case of the top-seeded Djokovic getting three walkovers or retirements because of injuries to opponents.Could we say it will never happen? I wouldnt say that. Is it on the short-term horizon? I would say that is not something being discussed, Allaster said of the best-of-three idea. But I would say everything needs to be on the table as it relates to the health and well-being of the athletes.Rajeev Ram, who lost in the mixed doubles final with partner CoCo Vandeweghe, questioned the wear and tear that best-of-five sets take on men in singles, and whether such long matches are really what plays best on television.I dont know who has six hours to watch a tennis match, I certainly dont, Ram says. What these guys can do out there is unbelievable. But to watch five sets of some of these guys playing 40-ball rallies, its just hard to think that thats going to be, from the business side of tennis, a good product. Air Max 270 React Safari . Jose Mourinho is Manchester Uniteds biggest ever signing, according to the man who first brought him to England with Chelsea in 2004. Peter Kenyon - the former United and Chelsea chief executive - insists the Old Trafford club have got the best manager in football and expects him to be a success.Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Kenyon said: Quite simply, theyre getting the best manager coaching in football today. His track record speaks for itself. When I appointed him, I was looking to bring a winning mentality to what was already a good team. Jose brought that immediately, which led to the first title in 50 years, in that first season - thats the ability he has.Hes got a great ability to make good players better, so I think the current players at Manchester United will be better under Jose Mourinho, for sure. Manchester United fans give their reaction to Mourinho being appointed Its a really exciting time. He is a coach who brings new techniques, new developments. Hes very forward thinking. Hell make the necessary changes that are required and have an immediate impact.Kenyon left United to join Chelsea in 2003 and he insists Old Trafford is a different place from when he was there under Sir Alex Ferguson. Kenyon believes Mourinho will do things his own way, and attempt to move the club on from Fergusons reign. With David Gill and Alex going its a different organisation. Joses not there for a season, hes there to rebuild Manchester United and I think hes the perfect person to do that, Kenyon said. Andy Burton recounts the day on which Mourinho signed his contract Jose will do it his own way. Jose knows how to win, he knows how to build the best teams, he knows how to create the atmosphere for players to develop to the very top level and win trophies, and thats what hell be doing.I dont think he sets out any day to disrupt but he doesnt take prisoners. Thats proved successful and thats what Manchester United are getting. Also See: Man Utd video Man Utd fixtures Man Utd stats Get a £10 free bet! Joe Stydahar Jersey . Faf du Plessis has admitted he would not be opposed to becoming South Africas permanent Test captain. Du Plessis is standing in for AB de Villiers, a long-time friend who is expected to return from an elbow injury for the Sri Lanka series in the home summer, and has racked up results that will make it difficult for his influence to be ignored.Under du Plessis, South Africa beat New Zealand in a Test series at home - their first since the disappointing summer of 2016-17 - and inflicted a first-ever 5-nil ODI series whitewash on Australia. They have also now won a third successive Test series in Australia, prompting calls for du Plessis to continue as captain.I would. Ive always said it. I love captaining. Its something I really enjoy doing, du Plessis said. Its important to make sure that with all the stuff we talk about our culture, as a captain you live that and lead from the front. I am enjoying it at the moment. However long it continues, I will always do it.Du Plessis has also received support from Ian Chappell. The captaincy has been terrific. South Africa would be well advised to keep Faf du Plessis on as captain because hes a guy that is buoyed by that responsibility, Chappell said.Since taking over, du Plessis has scored 217 runs at 43.40, only marginally more than his overall average of 41.28, but has looked a more confident batsmen. Du Plessis was dropped for the last Test of the 2015-16 summer against England after a run of poor form but returned in de Villiers place for the New Zealand series, and immediately showed the kind of determination and technique that he displayed in Australia four years ago. At the same time, Chappell also thinks du Plessis being retained in the role will free de Villiers up.Im not convinced AB de Villiers wants that responnsibility I think he might be happy to see Faf keep the job.dddddddddddd AB seems to put himself out in the field - mid-on, mid-off and those sort of positions - put him back in the slips because hes an unbelievable slip fielder. Not only do you retain a very good captain in Faf, you bring back a terrific batsman who doesnt have that responsibility on his shoulders and you get one of the best fielders in cricket in the slips. Win-win all round, he said.De Villiers does, in fact, have a strong desire to lead. He made public his disappointment when Hashim Amla was appointed ahead of him in 2014 and accepted the job temporarily when Amla stepped down in January this year. After two Tests as a stand-in captain, de Villiers was appointed full-time in February but has not had a chance to lead in a Test since then.He has given no indication of an intention to pass on the armband although he acknowledged du Plessis leadership skills during the first Test. Top captaincy by @faf1307, de Villiers tweeted. Once again, not much to say when a team performs like that! Pure class. #ProteaFire at its best!!! Enjoy the celebrations guys- Umlilooooooo.Although ruled out for the entire Australia tour, de Villiers told FIVE AA radio that he hoped to make himself available for the day-night Test in Adelaide. At the time, he was considering flying to Hobart to prepare during the second Test. De Villiers has not travelled to Australia and Russell Domingo, South Africas coach, confirmed he did not think de Villiers would play in the third Test. That will delay a decision South Africa will have to make about how to make room for de Villiers in their line-up. ' ' '

Nico Rosberg was not expecting to be backed into rival cars by Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton at the championship-decider in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. In one last role of the dice, race leader Hamilton slowed his pace so that Rosberg would come under pressure from Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen in the final laps of the race. If Rosberg had dropped to fourth, a victory would have secured Hamilton the title, but ultimately the German held on to finish second 0.4s behind Hamilton and 0.4s ahead of Vettel.I wasnt expecting it, Rosberg said. Maybe I was a bit na?ve but I didnt expect it.Mercedes is yet to decide how to react to Hamiltons tactics after the defending champion disobeyed a series of radio calls from the pit wall telling him to up his pace. Even though Hamiltons driving could have cost Rosberg the title, the newly-crowned champion said he understands his teammates actions. It is not something we need to discuss because it is really easy to understand the teams side as we do something a certain way all year and we dont change it for one race. At the same time you can understand the side from Lewis because we are out their fighting as drivers and you can understand that he wants to try something. We will just leave it at that and dont need to discuss it.Rosberg could afford to lose one place to Vettel, which would have allowed the Ferrari to put pressure on Hamilton, but he said he did not want to give the position away for fear of Verstappen taking advantage.I had Sebastian Vettel behind so I wanted to try to hold on to second because once I drop one place to avoid a mess in front I knew Verstappen would be right behind so I didnt want that and him right behind him either.Rosberg also confirmed that there was no way to pass Hamilton, even when he was driving at a reduced pace.I couldnt, I was trying at times, but Lewis was driving really well. He pushed flatout from turn 21 all the way through the first sector and halfway through the second sector and that is where you overtake so I was never getting close enough. He has the same car as me so in fast corners there was no way for me to get past and then he backed off in the next part where you cant overtake. TORONTO -- Pat Watkins is back with the Toronto Argonauts. The all-star cornerback rejoined the defending Grey Cup champions Wednesday and was with his teammates for the first time since the start of training camp. The six-foot-five, 205-pound defensive back needed the time away to take care of unspecified personal matters in Florida. "The main thing is Im here," Watkins told reporters at Varsity Stadium. "Everybody welcomed me back with open arms and thats a really great feeling. "Im really relieved that Im here." In fact, Watkins said his teammates greeted him with a standing ovation upon his arrival. "It felt good," he said. "Theres still a lot of charisma on the team, a lot of people who make you laugh. The greatest thing about it, you can go away from your home and still feel like youre at home." Toronto will play its final exhibition game Thursday night against the Montreal Alouettes at Varsity Stadium but Watkins isnt expected to suit up. Watkins, 30, had 67 tackles and five interceptions with Toronto last season, his first in the CFL. However, the Florida native didnt participate in Torontos 35-22 Grey Cup win over Calgary due to injury. Watkins signed as a free agent with the Argos in May 2012 after spending time in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers. He said physically hes fine as he was able to continue working out in Florida. "Look, Im in great shape," he said. "The timing was just off. "If this had happened a few months back as far as everything going on I couldve made it here. As I said the great thing is Im here and Ive got the whole season to look forward to." Toronto can certainly use Watkins as sophomore Jahlil Carter is the lone holdover in the Argos secondary. Cornerback Pacino Horne was released Monday while defensive back Evan McCollough signed as a free agent with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and veteran safety Jordan Younger has retired. Watkins certainly has some ground to make up considering the Argos opened training camp June 2. But the former Florida State star is fine with it if he has to reclaim his starting position to be on the field in time for Torontos season opener versus arch-rival Hamilton on June 28 at Rogers Centre. "Ive never been afraid of work," he said. "Thats fine with me." NEW YORK -- Nerlens Noel is coming off a major knee injury. Alex Len is in a walking boot. One of them could be the No. 1 pick tonight in an NBA draft that appears short on stardom, and neither looks ready to get his career off to a running start. Coverage begins with the NBA Draft Preview on TSN2, tonight at 7pm et/4pm pt followed by the Draft at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt. Follow pick-by-pick updates on TSN.ca. "This draft is really unpredictable, a lot of guys with injuries and you dont have any, like, LeBron James," Len said Wednesday. "So its going to be interesting." Ten years after James climbed on stage to start a draft that goes down as one of the best in recent memory, the No. 1 pick again belongs to Cleveland. The Cavaliers wont find anyone who can play like James on the court -- if they keep the pick -- and even the climbing the stage part will be a challenge for the big men who opened their college seasons against each other and are competing again now. Noel tore the ACL in his left knee on Feb. 12, ending his lone season at Kentucky. The 6-foot-11 freshman led the nation in shot blocking and his conference in rebounding, but hasnt been able to show the Cavaliers if his offensive game has grown. The only basketball work he did during his visit to Cleveland was shooting some free throws. Perhaps the pants he wore with his sports jacket and orange tie were just too tight, but Noel was walking gingerly as he exited a hotel ballroom after meeting with the media Wednesday. "I wanted to do more. Unfortunately I got hurt, but I mean I definitely felt right before I got injured I was really coming along as a player and just really coming into my own during that part of the season," Noel said. "But like I said, unfortunately I got hurt, so I wasnt able to show as much as I wanted to." Nor has Len, but that hasnt stopped the 7-1 centre from the Ukraine who spent two seasons at Maryland from climbing into the mix at No. 1. His left foot started bothering him around February, and he found out after the season that it was a stress fracture. He was aware he was projected as a top-10 pick before the draft combine, but may go much higher even though his visits to teams have consisted of nothing more than interviews. He no longer needs crutches but will be in the boot for perhaps two more weeks. So, with all these injury questions, what about playing it safe and picking a healthy guy? "I mean, probably a lot of people wish it could be that easy," Kansas guard Ben McLemore said. "But its a process for the teams, theyve got to see whats available and what they really need. And like I said, this draft is up in the air and nobody knows whats going to happen, whos going to get drafted in which order." Orlando has the No. 2 pick, followed by Washington, Charlotte and Phoenix. McLemore, Indianas Victor Oladipo, Georgetown forward Otto Porter and national player of the year Trey Burke of Michigan are among the other players who will hear their names called early at Barclays Center by NBA Commissioner David Stern in his final draft. Torontos Anthony Bennett, a 6-foot-7 forward coming off his freshman year at UNLV, is seen as a possible pick anywhere from No. 3 to No. 6. The highest Canadian selected in the NBA draft was Tristan Thompson, who was taken fourth overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2011. Its a class that wont draw any comparisons to the one that James led, which featured future Miami Heat teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, along with NBA scoring champion Carmelo Anthony among the first five picks. Brooklyn Nets general manager Billy King said a number of teams are trying to trade out of the draft and acquire extra picks for next year, which is expected to be a stronger class. But he doesnt know if there will be enough teams interested in being trade partners to get those deals done. "There are good players in this draft, but right now, there are not impact players. What I mean by that is that theres no one you look at in this draft that within two years will be an All-Star, say like Kyrie Irving was, players like that," said Minnesota Timberwolves president Flip Saunders, referring to the guard Cleveland took with the No. 1 pick in 2011. "And so in order for you to move up and dilute your talent pool and your roster, youve got to get an impact-type player, and I just dont believe ... theres good players, probably pretty good players in this league, but are they going to be that impact player whos going to be an All-Star or future Hall of Famer? Thats what you dont see. And sometimes thats something you dont see for two or three years in a row." McLemore has in some ways been hurt by healthy, since by being able to work out hes given teams something to nitpick. Noel and Len have been largely free of criticism while sitting on the sideline. Instead, Len is hoping his first impression of the season is one that holds up, when he had a career-high 23 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks against Noel in Marylands loss to Kentucky, right in the building where they will be Thursday. "I did well against him. So, its not up to me, its up to teams," Len said of a team choosing between the two. Neither player said he knows what the Cavs will do. There has been speculation they are open to dealing the pick, something teams rarely consider in a year with a clear-cut No. 1. Noel said he had gotten no sense from the Cavs that they had concern about his knee, which could keep him off the court until early in the regular season. And in a draft full of questions, he believes selecting him is the right answer. "Im a good teammate, I definitely love to work," Noel said. "I want to get better. I want to be great, I want to reach my potential, be the best player I can be. I definitely do countless hours in the gym and Im definitely working to get there." COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- Blas Perez and his FC Dallas teammates didnt get discouraged when they fell behind twice in the second half. Instead, they responded in kind. "It is important to tie the game before anything and there is always urgency," the Dallas forward said. "When you tie the game like that, its always a psychological hit on an opponent." Blas Perez scored his second goal in the 66th minute to lift MLS-leading FC Dallas into a 2-2 tie Saturday night with the Colorado Rapids, who got two goals from Atiba Harris. "Our team showed a lot of character," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. "When you are on the road, altitude, difficult times, we have a player down with the Jamaican National team (Je-Vaughn Watson) and left two starters home, we had a lot of reasons to fold. "We had a lot of reasons to fold, but it showed a lot of character to go down, come back, go down again and come back." Perez had only three goals in his previous 13 games for FC Dallas (8-2-4), which is unbeaten in its last four meetings with the Rapids. "The boys did a great job today because FC Dallas is a good team," Colorado coach Oscar Pareja said. "We got the lead twice and we were frustrated." FC Dallas is 7-1-4 in its last 12 games. They have outscored their opponents 21-14 in that stretch and lead the MLS with 29 goals. The Rapids (5-4-5) extended their unbeaten streak to six games, a stretch that includes three wins. Colorado is 5-1-3 in its last eight. Goalkeeper Clint Irwin is 5-2-4 with five shutouts since becoming the starter.dddddddddddd Dallas won the first meeting, 1-0 on March 2. Neither team had a shot on goal in the first half. The closest a team came to scoring came in the 37th minute when Perez took a feed from Fabian Castillo and put the ball past Irwin. The goal was waved off because the ball was clearly past the end line when Castillo made the pass. "It was a tough game going back and forth in the first half," said Perez. "Both teams had chances in the second half." Then came a 10-minute period where all four goals were scored. "I think we stayed with what we had been doing in the first half," Harris said of the difference in scoring chances for the Rapids. "We were able to create a lot more space in the second half." The offences took control of the game in the second half. Harris made the first shot of the game count with his header past the dive of Dallas keeper Raul Fernandez in the 56th minute, taking an inbounds throw from defender Marvell Wynne. "I had good position in the box and I got a handle on the ball and scoredh Perez got the equalizer in the 64th minute. Harris blocked a cross, but the ball bounded back to Perez, who easily beat Irwin. Two minutes later, Harris got behind the Dallas defence, putting Colorado ahead 2-1. Perez countered in the 66th minute with a low drive from the slot, 22 yards out. "It was just a great pass from Jackson," Perez said. "He saw the defender going for the ball and he went over him." Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we pose a question to a rotating panel of ESPN fantasy basketball experts to gauge their thoughts on a hot topic. Todays contributors are ESPN NBA Insider Kevin Pelton and ESPN Fantasys Joe Kaiser and Kyle Soppe.Al Horford is just 11 games into his tenure with the Boston Celtics, but he currently ranks 11th on the Player Rater based on averages. While his scoring (15.5 PPG, 50.4 FG%, 12.6 FGA) is nearly identical to what he did his last two seasons with the Hawks, his 3-point shooting (1.5 3-PPG, 39.0 3-FG%), assists (5.0 APG) and blocks (2.6 BPG) have skyrocketed. Is this just a small-sample-size anomaly or a sign of things to come?Kevin Pelton: Ive been doing some research lately into how to best predict performance the rest of the season, which yields opposing conclusions about these stats. Early-season block rates tend to not be as predictive as past performance, while assist rates tend to stabilize pretty quickly. Naturally, 3-point percentage is also fluky, though Horfords track record is strong enough at this point that I dont expect him to drop off that much.Ultimately, the projections that combine performance to date and preseason expectations peg Horford for 4.1 assists but just 1.4 blocks per game the rest of the season, which suggests his value is probably already at a high point.Joe Kaiser: The fact that Horford started taking 3-pointers for the first time in his career last season, shooting 34.4 percent and making 1.1 of 3.1 attempts, is an encouraging sign that his 3-point success this season isnt a fluke. Playing under Brad Stevens in Boston, hes taking and making more threes (1.5 of 3.7 per game) while shooting an improved 39 percent. I dont think this is a fluke, and at this point we have to consider the 3-pointer a key part of Horfords fantasy value. Just dont expect any style points with the form on his 3-point stroke. As far as his assists go, clearly Boston signed him with the intent of utilizing him as a facilitator, and were seeing that with the hike in assists this season. He has dished out at least five assists in six of his first 11 games with the Celtics, including nine in his last game, against the Rockets. Its safe to say hes going to break his previous single-season high of 3.5 APG, and Id expect him to finish somewhere between 4.5-5.5 by seasons end.The blocks are the one stat that I think we can chalk up to small sample size. Horford is 30 years old and in his 10th NBA season -- this isnt typically a stage in a players career when he would suddenly become a bigger shot-blocker. His previous single-season best is 1.5 BPG, set twice in the last three seasons, and Id expect that to be his ceiling in 2016-17.Kyle Soppe: Im buying all the Horford shares I can get. From a basketball standpoint, the rise in Horfords unique skill set is because ... well, its now unique. In Atlanta, he shared the front court with Paul Millsap, a player whose skill was so similar to his that I often confused the two.Horfords skills havent gotten any better this season, he has simply gotten smarter. The percentage of his shots taken from 16 feet or further is actually down a tick from last season (46.8 percent, down from 47.9 percent last season), but he has joined #TeamAnalytics and determined that he might as well step behind that 3-point line if he is going to settle from a jumper.I also believe that the assist spike is real, for many of the same reasons. Due to his unique set of skills, he often puts the opposing center in a difficult position on the perimeter, thus allowing him to showcase his playmaking abilities. Id take the under on five assists per game and 39-percent 3-point shooting when all is said and done, but the Celtics are a top-10 team in offensive efficiency right now, and that is no mistake. Horford is a reliable player who can help fantasy owners across the board and should finish the season as a top-20 player. Marcus Rashford scores his and Manchester Uniteds second goal against Arsenal Now the teenager hopes to build on his early success and try to cement his place in manager Louis van Gaals team. This is my first game in the Premier League so obviously its been amazing and to score two is a bonus so hopefully I can carry it on and do it again next game, Rashford told Sky Sports 4.It was a shock playing midweek because Martial was supposed to be starting and coming in kind of benefited me because I wasnt thinking about it, thinking about the game too much so its just been good. Marcus Rashfords fairytale continued as he scored twice on his Premier League debut And Rashford also praised United team-mate Michael Carrick, who has guided him through his fledgling career thus far.It was just crazy but having the likes of Michael around helped, Rashford said.He just said keep going because I was backing off and he just said to keep going. Rashford shakes hands with Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal Its crazy you cant explain it when youre out there.ddddddddddddUnited manager Van Gaal was impressed by Rashfords contribution, and the manner in which the teenager has taken his opportunities in his stride.Van Gaal said: Its unbelievable when you are 18 years and you come in.I can understand it last Thursday against Midtjylland because you are coming in and you do your thing without any pressure, but the second time is always more difficult and he played a very good match because he did the things that I asked him. Louis van Gaal says what Marcus Rashford has achieved in his first week in the Manchester United first team is unbelievable He scores again. Four goals in two matches is an average that is unusual. You get the chance and you have to perform. Do the things what we are asking and I have always said it is not a matter of age it is a matter of quality and he shows it. Rashfords U21 goals WATCH: A few goals from the strikers spell in the U21s Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also praised Rashford following the game. The player who was surprising for me talent-wise was Rashford because of the timing of his movement and his intelligence, said the Frenchman. His movement in the box was great and he could be a very positive surprise for Manchester United on what Ive seen today. PHOENIX -- In the shadows of University of Phoenix Stadium, where he won a college football national championship with the?Florida Gators?in 2007, Tim Tebows sternest baseball test yet got off to a quiet start. After fouling off a pair of full-count pitches from Washington Nationals prospect Austin Voth, Tebow grounded out to second base in his first Arizona Fall League at-bat. He went on to finish 0-for-3 with a pair of groundouts and a squibber in front of the plate, as his Scottsdale Scorpions beat the Glendale Desert Dogs 9-6 before an announced crowd of 912 at Camelback Ranch on Tuesday.Obviously, I wish I could have done a little bit more at the plate and got a couple of hits, Tebow said after his AFL debut. But it was fun. Youve got to knock a little rust off. ... Each day is not just about the result. Its about: What are you learning? How are you improving? How are you going to be able to take that over into spring training? On opening day in the league for top prospects, Tebow also caught a routine fly ball and slammed into the wall while pursuing another shot. He logged five innings in left field.Where my face went into the wall? Tebow said with a laugh when asked about his ill-fated catch attempt. I knew it was hit well, so I just tried to make a play on it. I was going pretty hard and thought I had another step or two and ran into the wall. But Ive been hit harder, so Im OK.The attendance at the spring training facility of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox represented about three times the normal crowd for an AFL game. Afterward, Tebow signed autographs for fans down the third-base line. When one fan had a seizure, Tebow opted to stay with him until paramedics arrived.I just remember just being very disoriented, Brandon Berry told The Associated Press by phone. Then I saw Tim.The 30-year-old said he was OK at home in nearby Avondale, Arizona, after being released from the hospital.Berry said he didnt remember much after the seizure, except that he told the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner that he cheered for Georgia -- an SEC rival of Tebows?Florida Gators.Daniel Kelly, a Tebow fan from Casa Grande, Arizona, said he met Berry early in the game. Kelly was getting a baseball autographed by Tebow when the seizure began.Hes just shaking violently, Kelly told the AP. Were like, Get a paramedic! Get a paramedic!Kelly said he and his wife, Samantha, began to pray. Kelly then looked up to see that Tebow was also praying while placing a hand on Berrys leg.Kelly said Berry appeared unconscious for about 30 seconds before coming to with a coughing fiit.dddddddddddd. Officials from the stadium tended to him while awaiting paramedics from the Phoenix Fire Department.Kelly said it was near 100 degrees at the stadium and that Berry was with him in the sun for most of the game.Berry said he has been having seizures since 2013 and was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor in January. He said he had an MRI on Tuesday to monitor his condition before going to the game.Berry said he isnt a Tebow fan but that he went to the game to take in the spectacle of seeing a superstar, albeit from another sport.Like seeing somebody like Chipper Jones when I grew up watching, said Berry, originally from Hayesville, North Carolina. As for the game itself, Tebow did not have the same magic in his AFL debut as when he was reintroduced to baseball two weeks ago in the instructional league. In Port St. Lucie, Florida, on Sept. 28, Tebow homered on the first pitch he saw. The long ball came in the 29-year-old Tebows first formal baseball game since a state semifinal as a junior in high school.Tebow signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets for $100,000 last month, following a professional football career that included stops with the?Denver Broncos and New York Jets.Scottsdale manager Tom Goodwin was encouraged by Tebows performance on Tuesday, which included seeing 14 pitches over three at-bats.Day 1. I thought it was a good day. I really did -- obviously seeing the pitches, Goodwin said. This is the first game I got a chance to see him. The plate discipline is going to be key for him -- to try to zero in and get a good pitch. I think hell be able to do that a little bit more as he gets used to being out there and playing. As Tebow added, I felt like I saw the pitches well. I just rolled over a couple -- pitches I should have done more with.Tebow is expected to play Wednesday and Thursday in the AFL before departing for his college football broadcasting duties with ESPN. He is part of the crew for Alabama-Tennessee on Saturday.Meanwhile, considering he was playing within walking distance of one of his greatest football moments, Tebow was asked if the proximity made him miss that sport.I have good memories in that stadium, Tebow said. You definitely miss football sometimes. Im thankful I get to talk about it every weekend. And thats fun. There are times youre like, Man, I still love the sport. Its super fun. But this is also a lot of fun.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. ' ' '

From the general feeling in the British and Irish isles, the task awaiting Warren Gatland in New Zealand is a thankless one.Their first tour match is just seven days after the Aviva Premiership and PRO12 finals, the players will have reached breaking point and then come the worlds best side who havent lost at home since 2009. As Wales coach, Gatland has faced the All Blacks 10 times and lost on each occasion. It is rugbys version of Mission Impossible; the expected 20,000-strong army of Lions fans may as well save their time and watch from the comforts of living rooms and pubs. But if anyone can pull off the most unlikely of victories against the All Blacks, it is Gatland. One of their own, he knows the opposition inside out, he thinks like them, has their very DNA in his own rugby bones and every sinew of his being must be strained to breaking point if the Lions are to beat Steve Hansens side.Amid the rolling, undulating hills of New Zealands north island lies the Gatland household on the banks of the Waikato River where his wife Trudi lives. Brought up on Hamiltons Laurence Street by his parents Kaye and Dave, he went to school 10 minutes drive away at Hamilton Boys High School and captained their first-team in both cricket and rugby. An abrasive hooker, he made a record 140 appearance for Waikato and would have won full All Blacks Test honours but for the presence of Sean Fitzpatrick. His coaching career is a joint love affair between Waikato and the British and Irish isles. His first gig was at Taupiri in 1989 on the eastern bank of the Waikato river and later that year he headed to Ireland to take charge of Galwegians in a player/coach capacity. Following five years there his stock rose. After a short spell as assistant coach back in New Zealand with Thames Valley in 1996, Connacht then came calling later that year and in 1998 he replaced Brian Ashton as Ireland coach. He left Ireland in 2001 and then came the move to London Wasps in 2002 -- complete with three Premiership titles and a Heineken Cup. He then headed back to the familiar surroundings of Waikato and the Chiefs but in 2007 got the call from Wales and two Grand Slams, a further championship and a World Cup semifinal followed. This rooting in home union rugby has brought home the importance of the Lions to Gatland. In 1993 he was part of the Waikato side that thrashed the Lions 38-10, an appearance he marked with a try, at Hamiltons Rugby Park.Sixteen years on and he was part of Ian McGeechans backroom staff for their tour of South Africa. McGeechan, who was on his seventh and final Lions tour as a player and then coach, was impressed by Gatlands respect for the jersey. He understood why these quadrennial jaunts against one of the big three, where a bunch of players were charged with forging lifelong unity in a matter of hours, were no rugby anachronism.I remember when I was head coach in South Africa in 2009 and he [Gatland] was an assistant coach, and I asked him to speak to the team before one of the early provincial games, McGeechan wrote in his column for the Telegraph. He said no. He said he had not earned the right to do that at that stage. It showed great respect.Four years on, in 2013, and Gatland masterminded the Lions first series win since 1997 with a 2-1 triumph over Australia. He attempted to bring back much of the traditional touring aspects of the Lions with an emphasis on off-field bonding and also showed he is not one to shy away from making controversial calls when he dropped Brian ODriscoll for the third Test.Though his decision was vindicated with a 41-13 triumph, the vitriolic backlash from ex-players and armchair pundits shocked Gatland. At one stage he thought he could do without reprising the role in 2017 but the lure of the Lions proved too much, as did the temptation of gate-crashing his motherlands party. With the role confirmed, now comes the task of moulding his backroom staff. It wont be a case of jobs for his chums; in 2013 he chose then England coach Andy Farrell over his long-time Wasps and Wales ally Shaun Edwards. Its about the bigger picture so expect him to pluck a name from left-field and he may look to tempt Scotland coach Vern Cotter, who interviewed for the top Lions role, to join the brains trust. Then comes the task of assembling the squad. A total of 51 players ran out for Sir Clive Woodward on the Lions ill-fated 2005 tour but Gatland is likely to favour a smaller group like his class of 2013. His choice of captain will be fascinating. He could stick with 2013 Lions and Wales captain Sam Warburton or go for Englands Dylan Hartley; the latter moulded in Gatlands image, an abrasive New Zealand-born hooker.Gatlands gameplan will also be fascinating. His direct approach with Wales, one focused on forcing space through physicality, is likely to be tweaked to counter the All Blacks threats. Winning the collision area and coping with the New Zealand counter-attack will be top of his list. Then will come the task of drawing together the most effective 15 possible from Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland. The Lions have already been written off. But this canny Kiwi thrives off winning and baring his teeth as the underdog. Mission Impossible? With Gatland at the helm its more improbable. He will have plenty of tricks up his sleeve and judging by how difficult a task it is to win on New Zealand soil, theyll need them. Darrel Williams Jersey . "I wrote 36 on my sheet at the beginning of the game," the Cincinnati coach said, referring the yard line the ball would need to be snapped from. Kyler Fackrell Jersey . LOUIS -- Mike Smith is used to facing plenty of shots, so this was nothing new. http://www.prochiefsauthentic.com/Youth-Demarcus-Robinson-Elite-Jersey/ . Newcastle dominated in the early stages but City weathered the storm and then raised its game in extra time. Negredo broke the deadlock from close range after a simple move in the 99th minute before Dzeko took the ball round goalkeeper Tim Krul to seal the victory in the 105th. Derrick Nnadi Jersey . Pedro scored from a pass by Lionel Messi in the 33rd minute and added two more goals in the 47th and 72nd after Valdes saved his second penalty in four days following his stop in Wednesdays 4-0 over Ajax in the Champions League. Dustin Colquitt Jersey . Los Angeles star goalie survived those perilous gymnastics with no problem, and he eventually backstopped the Kings to a skid-snapping win. Quick stopped 27 shots in his return from a 24-game injury absence, Jeff Carter scored the tiebreaking goal with 7:55 to play, and the Kings snapped their five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. RALEIGH, N.C. --?North Carolina?is challenging the NCAAs jurisdiction to pursue charges in the schools long-running academic fraud?scandal and is holding off on self-imposed penalties. The school on Tuesday publicly released its response to five potentially top-level NCAA charges, which include lack of institutional control. UNC acknowledged problems tied to irregular courses in a department popular with athletes on the Chapel Hill campus, but it argued that its accreditation agency -- and not the NCAA -- was the proper authority to handle such a matter. That agency, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, sanctioned the school with a year of probation that expired in June.UNC also said some charges were invalid because of an expired four-year statute of limitations. And it argued that the NCAA knew several facts that led to charges in this case when it issued sanctions against the football program in March 2012, which should have precluded any charges because a ruling is final, binding and conclusive, according to NCAA bylaws.UNC raises these jurisdictional and procedural issues not to excuse the underlying conduct or to escape accountability for those events before its accreditor or elsewhere, the response states, but rather to ensure mutual adherence to the rules that govern NCAA enforcement actions, including this one.As a result, the jurisdictional and procedural issues make it difficult ... to assign appropriate penalties for the alleged violations, the response states. The school argued that it disagreed with the institutional-control charge, but it accepted that former philosophy professor and womens basketball academic counselor Jan Boxill had provided improper academic assistance in several cases.Randall Roden, a Raleigh-based attorney representing Boxill, provided The Associated Press with a copy of his clients separate response to the NCAA charges. It denies wrongdoing in the opening sentence. It did not happen, Boxills response sttates.dddddddddddd Not one of the allegations against Jan Boxill is true. The responses are the latest procedural steps in a case that began as an offshoot of the football probe that began in 2010. The school and individuals charged had 90 days to respond to the NCAAs Notice of Allegations (NOA) sent in April outlining violations, though they received a one-week extension and filed their responses Monday. The NCAA enforcement staff now has 60 days to respond. That would eventually lead to a hearing with an infractions committee panel, with a ruling weeks to months afterward -- a timeline likely to carry the case into 2017.The case centers on independent study-style courses requiring a research paper or two while offering GPA-boosting grades in the formerly named African and Afro-American Studies (AFAM) department. Many classes that didnt meet were misidentified as lecture courses.A 2014 review by former U.S. Justice Department official Kenneth Wainstein estimated more than 3,100 students were affected between 1993 and 2011, with athletes across numerous sports making up roughly half the enrollments. The NCAA reopened its case in 2014 and first filed charges in May 2015. UNC was near its August 2015 response deadline when it reported additional information for review, pausing the process for eight months until the arrival of a new NOA.The revisions to the amended NOA expanded the time range for Boxills violations to stretch back four years earlier to February 2003 through July 2010, while a failure-to-monitor charge against the school ran from fall 2005 to summer 2011. There were also charges against each of the two former AFAM staffers most directly linked to the irregularities for failing to cooperate with NCAA investigators. In addition to trouble for UNC with its accreditation agency, the case also led to several lawsuits by former UNC athletes. DALLAS -- Sergei Bobrovsky was flawless as the last line of defense. The Columbus Blue Jackets goalie had plenty of help up front on Saturday night.Bobrovsky earned his 13th career shutout in Columbus 3-0 win over the Dallas Stars. He had 32 saves for the second night in a row, with the Blue Jackets winning both after losing their first two games of the season. Dallas is 0-1-1 in the last two games, both at home.(Bobrovsky) played good, Columbus coach John Tortorella said. I dont think he steals a game, but he just looks solid. We were in total control of that game, I felt. You have to give everybody credit because it was a team win tonight.I thought we had the right amount of patience slash aggression.Josh Anderson led Columbus offense with a goal and an assist, but he talked about Bobrovsky. You saw him in the World Cup. He played phenomenal. I think hes just carrying that over to this team. Hes really comfortable and confident. Sometimes when we make mistakes, hes there to cover them up.Anderson tapped in the games first goal at 16:04 of the second period. Dallas Kari Lehtonen couldnt slide back into position after Boone Jenner passed across the goal mouth.(Anderson)s been very consistent, Tortorella said. He adds so much speed to our lineup, as far as the forechecking, scores a big goal, very responsible away from the puck. He has been solid.Scott Hartnell scored at 9:02 of the third period, with assists from William Karlsson and Anderson. Matt Calvert added an empty-net goal with 1:12 to play.Columbus has won seven of the last 10 games between the teams. Bobrovsky is 8-1-1 in his career vs. Dallas.Lehtonen had 23 saves.Dallas outshot the Blue Jackets 9-7 in the scoreless first period, and had nothing to show for a 15-8 advantage in shots on goal in the second. There was a span of 4 or 5 minutes in that second period when we started playing a little bit of pond hockey, turning the puck over, and let them counter on us, Tortorella said. But for the most part I thought our concentration was really good, understanding were in a back-to-back situation. The Stars best scoring chance came midway through the second period, when Bobrovsky stopped Devin Shores tip-in attempt.Andersons goal came with Dallas captain Jamie Benn and the Blue Jackets Brandon Dubinsky were in the penalty box for fighting. The goal was set up after a Dallas pass intended for Brett Ritchie, skating in toward the goal, didnt reach him because it hit a linesman. Ritchie was late in skating back on defense, so Columbus had a manpower advantage. We got a little lucky break from the refs, Tortorella said. One of the refs said they felt awful about it. But it happens, itll happen against us this year.Columbus Cam Atkinson sent a penalty shot wide left at 9:39 of the third period. It was awarded because the Stars John Klingberg slid his stick into Atkinsons path on a short-handed breakaway. Were turning way too many pucks over, Klingberg said. He had 5 of Dallas 12 giveaways. The Blue Jackets had only three.Game notes Dallas injury-riddled front line was without two forwards hurt in Thursdays game. Patrick Sharp (concussion-like symptoms) was placed on injured reserve, and Patrick Eaves (lower-body injury) was scratched. Taking their places were Ales Hemsky, back from a groin injury, and Gemel Smith, recalled from Texas of the AHL for his NHL debut. ... The Blue Jackets were without D Ryan Murray, who was elbowed in the jaw during Fridays win over Chicago. ... Columbus was 0 for 2 on the power play and Dallas 0 for 5, but two of those lasted just 3 seconds each.UP NEXTBlue Jackets: Columbus, in a stretch of five games in eight days, will play the second of four straight road games on Tuesday at Los Angeles.Stars: Theyll complete a three-game home stand on Tuesday against Winnipeg. OAKLAND, Calif. -- A rare full day off turned out to be just what the Pittsburgh Pirates needed to keep Jeff Lockes winning streak going.Getting six hits and six RBI from the bottom four batters in the lineup certainly helped, too.Jody Mercer homered and had an RBI single and the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied from three runs down to beat stumbling ace Sonny Gray and the Oakland Athletics 7-3 on Friday night.Matt Joyce added two hits, Josh Harrison drove in two runs while Andrew McCutcheon doubled and scored on a wild pitch to help the Pirates to their first win in their history at the Coliseum and just their second in 13 games between the two franchises. Its kind of what we saw the first two months of the season when we were connecting all dots, top to bottom in the lineup, Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. June was hard. The lineup has played much more consistent . than any other time here. The Pirates beat the As in their first meeting since 2013 by taking advantage of another shaky outing by Gray (3-7).He gave up seven runs, hit a batter and threw two wild pitches in six innings while losing his sixth consecutive decision. The right-hander, third in the 2015 AL Cy Young voting, is winless since April 22.Marcus Semien hit his 17th home run of the season for Oakland.Hell figure it out and hell get better as the year goes on, As manager Bob Melvin said. Theres always going to be a year thats not as good as others. So fa this is the one for him.Pittsburghs 5-6-7 hitters combined for six hits, five RBI and four runs scored. Chris Stewart, the No. 9 hitter, drove in the go-ahead run with a fielders choice grounder in the fifth.Thats what makes our team us, Harrison said. It can be anybody, and thats what we have to get back to.Mercer homered in the third and added an RBI single as part of a two-run fifth.Harrisons two-out, two-run double in the sixth put the Pirates up 7-3.LOCKED INPirates starter Jeff Locke (8-5) also struggled early but retired the final nine batters he faced to win his third straight. He gave up three runs over five innings with three walks and three strikeouts. Three relievers combined to retire the final 12 batters and complete the four-hitter. It was a strong finish, Hurdle said. His fastball wasnt of the quality that we had seen the last two times out . but he stayed in the hunt, made pitches, battled and finished very strong. Thats a sign of maturity.LINEUP SHUFFLEJed Lowrie had decent results while batting leadoff for the first time this season. He drew a walk from Locke in the first before Semien homered on a 3-2 pitch. Oaklands second baseman added an RBI double in the second to make it 3-0.TRAINERS ROOMPirates: Ryan Vogelsong faced hitters while throwing off the mound in the latest step of his recovery after getting hit in the face with a pitch on May 23. Vogelsong, who underwent surgery on June 2 to repair the multiple fractures he suffered, remains on the 60-day disabled list and isnt eligible to return until July 23. . Right-hander Gerrit Cole (triceps strain) also pitched a simulated game prior to the series opener with Oakland. The Pirates are encouraged but havent determined what the next step is. . Francisco Cervelli (broken hamate in left hand) continues to make progress and could catch the next round of sim games for Vogelsgong and Cole.Athletics: Infielder Tyler Ladendorf was recalled from Triple-A Nashville before the game. The Seahawks responded with two field goals, before taking the lead with a touchdown of their own.Using all available weapons, Russell Wilson went 65 yards downfield, finishing with a six yard touchdown pass to Baldwin. Seattle claim their sixth win and maintain a two game advantage over the Arizona Cardinals The Patriots replied late in the second quarter, Blount again scoring from just a yard out. But it was Seattle who held a 19-14 lead going into half-time, after Wilson led his team 75 yards in seven plays before finding Baldwin in the end zone from 18 yards. On New Englands first possession of the second half, Blount scored his third touchdown, this time from 13 yards to hand the advantage back to the home side. LeGarrette Blount added three scores of his own but it wasnt enough to beat Seattle Steven Hauschkas 41-yard field goal gave Seattle a one point lead and, after trading field goals, Seattle got a breakthrough, Chancellor forcing Edelman into a fumble which Sherman recovered. The Seahawks capitalised, Baldwin grabbing his third TD of the night to extend the lead to 31-24. New England had opportunities to level at the end, a four minute drive was accelerated after Edelman caught a 30 yard pass, before Rob Gronkoswki added a 27 yard reception. However, with just two yards to go, the Seattle defence stayed strong to keep the Patriots out of the end zone. Eagles impress with home win The Philadelphia Eagles maintained a perfect home record with a 24-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons. In only their second loss of the season, New England remain two games up in the AFC East, but now join the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders, both of the AFC West, on a 7-2 record. Meanwhile the Seahawks (6-2-1) also hold a two game advantage over their divisional opponents, while the win represented another positive step in Wilsons return to top form. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Dalvin Cook was one of the college footballs most explosive players last season. But as the Florida State running back prepares for the upcoming season, he wants to be just as potent without the ball. The game plan is going to come in, they are going to want to stop Dalvin, Cook said. I can still influence the defense and draw more 1-on-1 coverages if I have the ball or not. I have to be more fluid and move around more. When the fourth-ranked Seminoles face No. 11 Mississippi in the Sept. 5 opener in Orlando, all eyes will be on the 5-foot-11, 213-pound junior, who has garnered some Heisman talk. Last season Cook set FSU single-season records for rushing (1,691) and all-purpose yards (1,935).There are three other stats though which stand out about Cook. His 7.9 yards per carry and his 22 carries of 20-yards or more led Power Five conference running backs. The carries were a bigger eye opener.Cooks 229 carries were the second-most by a running back in a Jimbo Fisher offense (LSUs LaBrandon Toefield had 230 in 2001) and marked the first time since Greg Allen in 1983 that a Florida State back had 200 carries or more in a season.Hes baby sweetness. . Not comparing him to Walter Payton. He has that juice back there in the backfield, fullback Freddie Stevenson said. He has crazy vision. He might see some things that everybody else might not see. You just know with him behind you, get on your man and hell do the rest. While some may be amazed that Cook had three touchdown runs of 74 yards or more last season, it is what he did in the first 10 yards that made those big plays. On his 94-yard touchdown against Wake Forest, Cook broke two tackles with a cut at the FSU 13 before being gone.I am amazed about some of the cuts I make. Im confident when I do. I dont think twice about it, Cook said. When I make my reads I go with my first instinct and go with it. You see some of the looks on these fans faces it will tell it all.Keeping Cook healthy will be a major focus. During the second half of last season he had a nagging hamstring strain and missed a game due to an ankle injury. As spring practices concluded, he underwent shoulder surgery..ddddddddddddCook is hoping that adding 10 pounds will help him be able to stand up more to the rigors of the season. With a bye week at midseason, Cook should get a chance to rest right before the pivotal Oct. 29 game against Clemson. He will be counted on heavily though during a challenging opening six-game stretch that includes four ranked opponents -- Mississippi, Louisville (Sept. 17) and North Carolina (Oct. 1). Theres also an Oct. 8 trip to Miami.Fisher and strength coach Vic Viloria credit the Seminoles GPS monitoring of player practice levels of preventing a more serious injury last season.Viloria added about the GPS data: Guys run fast and are going to pull hamstrings. If he pulled his hamstring wouldnt you want everyone with a bad hamstring because he rushed for nearly 2,000 yards. With the GPS data Coach Fisher prevented a crack from becoming a crevice.Fisher, who said Cooks carries might be more monitored during the season, added that he has seen a more relaxed Cook.Dalvins a very quiet guy, Fisher said. What Ive seen a lot of growth in, hes more outgoing with his teammates. I think hes having a greater effect on them in everything he does.Florida State returns all of its offensive starters, but with Sean Maguire breaking his right foot on the second day of practice, redshirt freshman Deondre Francois will be the quarterback.Fisher is hoping that the added experience at receiver will make the offense more balanced, but with a young quarterback and receivers struggling in practice, Cook will be counted on early.Cook goes into the season needing 1,260 yards to break Warrick Dunns school career mark of 3,959 yards. Hes also trying to become the first running back from a Florida school to win the Heisman. Florida State, Florida and Miami have combined for seven Heisman winners, but all have gone to quarterbacks. You put all that talk in the back of your head, he said. If we do what we have to do as a group all the individual awards will take care of itself.---AP college football website: collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '

Marathon world-record holder Paula Radcliffe said Friday that comments she made concerning Caster Semenya have been misrepresented after stating in a radio interview that the South Africans current dominance in the 800 meters is no longer sport.Radcliffe said her remarks on Semenya being so dominant that she was expected to win the Olympic title next month were part of a longer live debate she took part in on the issue of hyperandrogenism in sport. Hyperandrogenism is a condition where a woman has much higher levels of testosterone than normal.Semenya was ordered to undergo gender tests when she won the world title in 2009, and wasnt allowed to compete for 11 months after the tests. The IAAF was forced to drop rules that limited testosterone levels in female athletes last year after they were challenged by another runner at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This season, Semenya has been clearly dominant. Last week, Semenya ran a personal best and her fastest time since the 2009 world championshipsI fear that when we talk about it in terms of fully expect no other result than Caster Semenya to win that 800 meters (at the Olympics), then its no longer sport and its no longer an open race, Radcliffe said in audio clips from the debate published by the BBC.In the interview, Radcliffe also appeared to suggest hyperandrogenism could become similar to organized doping.I mean, weve seen the lengths that countries like Russia will go to to have major success on the world stage, on the Olympic stage. I think what worries me is we know that there are certain communities where the condition of intersex, of hyperandrogenism, is more prevalent, Radcliffe said.We dont want to get to the situation where people are actively going to those communities to seek out girls who look like theyre going to be able to go out and perform, and to run fast, and then take them away and train them. It becomes a manipulated situation where they are being manipulated and the ethics of fair sport and fair play are being manipulated. The clips from the radio show Thursday appeared to have been edited, and in her statement on Friday, Radcliffe said: ...unless you listen to the entire debate, snippets taken and printed will entirely misrepresent what was said.I tried to get across how difficult and complicated the situation is and how finding a solution where nobody gets hurt is pretty much impossible, Radcliffe said.Last year, the IAAF was forced to suspend the rules it had to control some female athletes testosterone levels after they were challenged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport by another runner, Indias Dutee Chand. The IAAF said high testosterone levels give some female athletes an unfair advantage, but Chand challenged that assertion, and the IAAF was told to do more research to show how much advantage testosterone gives. In Chands case, Radcliffe testified in support of the IAAF and the rules limiting testosterone. She said she and other top athletes felt women with hyperandrogenism had an unfair advantage in competition.Semenyas career has been controversial since she emerged as an unknown 18-year-old and easily beat the field to win the world championships seven years ago.Citing medical confidentiality, the IAAF has never released results of the tests performed on Semenya or details of her case. CHICAGO -- For the Chicago Bulls, snapping out of their recent slump was as simple as putting the ball in the basket.Jimmy Butler scored 19 points, Rajon Rondo had 10 points, 14 assists and eight rebounds, and the Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons 113-82 on Monday night to end a three-game losing streak.Everything looks better when youre making shots, Butler said. If youre not making shots, its hard to win.Taj Gibson added 16 points, Robin Lopez had 14 and Dwyane Wade, Doug McDermott and Nikola Mirotic had 13 apiece for Chicago, which had lost six of eight.Jon Leuer scored 16 points for the Pistons, who have dropped three straight and four of five.We got crushed, Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy said. It was a disgusting performance by all of us, me included. I mean, it was unprofessional, embarrassing, humiliating. Whatever you want to say, it was terrible. It looks to me like a lack of effort and a lack of heart. And if you dont play hard, youre not going to have any confidence. We looked like we were hoping the game would be easy tonight, and it wasnt. And we just caved. After scoring just 69 points in a 26-point loss to Milwaukee on Friday, the Bulls busted out for 69 points in the first two quarters, their best for any half this season.Chicago, which entered tied for sixth-worst in the NBA with a .436 field-goal percentage, made 17 of 21 shots (81 percent) in taking a 35-19 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bulls had 15 assists on their 17 field goals, with Rondo (seven) and Butler (six) leading the way. That ball was moving so rapidly and everybody was getting rhythm shots, Butler said. When you see your first few go in, its a long night for whoevers guarding you.The Bulls still were shooting a blistering 72.7 percent at halftime -- they led 69-34 -- and even managed to knock down 4 of 6 3-pointers, which had been a problem during theirr recent struggles.ddddddddddddThe lead was 97-63 entering the fourth quarter, and the Pistons offered little resistance from there. None of the Chicago starters played in the fourth.Give the guys a lot of credit for stepping up, Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said. Last week was an embarrassing week for everybody.TIP-INSPistons: They held a players-only meeting following Saturdays 15-point home loss to Indiana, but Van Gundy didnt place much significance on it. Team meeting my (butt), he said. Like I said before, that stuff means nothing. Its what you do on the court. Their 15 first-quarter assists are tied (with Golden State) for the most assists in a quarter this season. . Their previous high for a half was 65 points in the first half of a game Oct. 31 at Brooklyn.MIROTIC RETURNSAfter not playing the previous two games (both coachs decisions), Mirotic entered the game with 3:39 left in the first quarter. He hit his first three shots, including a 3-pointer, and finished with 10 points in 12 first-half minutes. The big thing was the way he performed at practice, Hoiberg said. He has been coming in to get to work. He was the first guy in the gym four or five straight days. I wanted to get him back in there and he hit a couple of shots.FILM STUDYA large portion of Chicagos three-hour practice on Sunday was watching lowlights of the 95-69 loss to Milwaukee on Friday.Everybody came in with an open mind, took the criticism that they deserved and learned from it and got better, Butler said.UP NEXTPistons: Host Memphis on Wednesday night.Bulls: Conclude a three-game homestand against Washington on Wednesday night. The Wollongong Wolves are bracing for an A-League turf war against a renewed push for a third Sydney team based in the citys so

The Wollongong Wolves are bracing for an A-League turf war against a renewed push for a third Sydney team based in the citys south. The former National Soccer League champions will consider an expansion bid once Football Federation Australia releases its criteria early next year, according to new CEO Chris Papakosmas, who began in the job on Monday. But the Wolves, who won back-to-back titles in 2000 and 2001, appear to be wheeling in the big guns to stave off FFAs favoured option of a super club encompassing the Sutherland, St George and Illawarra regions.Papakosmas joins the Wolves after 25 years in the media industry and is closely aligned with Wollongong-based television mogul Bruce Gordon, his former employer at WIN Television.Billionaire Gordon has long been touted as a potential A-League investor and its believed he met with former FFA chairman Frank Lowy last year when the governing body was considering removing Wellington Phoenix from the competition. For the time being at least, Papakosmas said the Wolves will be purely focused on their immediate vision - to stabilise the clubs finances and roll out a new, low-cost junior pathway program. But once FFAs expansion framework is made public, theyll take a serious look.If guidelines come out in January or February, of course were going to look at those guidelines very, very closely, Papakosmas told AAP.Papakosmas said it would be presumptuous to assume Gordon, who held talks to buy 50 per cent of NRL club St George Illawarra earlier this year, is keen to fund a Wollongong A-League bid - or that he is the extent of the clubs corporate connections.Bruce is a very well-known, successful businessman down in this region and hell decide whats in his best interests, he said. But in saying that, we have some very, very significant contacts and connections within corporate Australia, here on the South Coast and right across the country, and we intend to leverage those when its most appropriate and suits everyone involved.Football South Coast has been involved in regular meetings with FFA over the concept of a third Sydney franchise and chairman Eddy de Gabriele told SBS the association is not foolish enough to chase a stand-alone team. Its expected a new Sydney side would split games between Wollongongs WIN Stadium and Cronullas Southern Cross Group Stadium. However, Papakosmas believes that would be the wrong way to go.I cant speak on anyone elses behalf, but eventually when FFA decides whats in the best interests of football in the country, is it a truly expansive league that incorporates all the major football-loving regions in the country, or is it a dilution of certain areas that already have representation? he said. After Paul Gascoignes appearance at the Premier League, Rod Studd recalls how other stars from showbiz, sport, and even British royalty have enjoyed the darts. The former England international footballer watched last weeks Premier League matches in Bournemouth and the eight remaining players return to action in Birmingham on Thursday night, live on Sky Sports.Gascoigne was the latest famous face to spend an evening at the darts and Sky Sports expert Studd looks back at when a prince, a TV comedian, and a Dutch football ace paid a visit to the arrows... From spit and saw dust to champagne and star dust was how Dave Lanning, the former Sky Sports commentator, described the influence of our late, great colleague Sid Waddell. That is reflected in the variety of celebrities from all over the planet that watch darts.Prince Harry is a great supporter of darts and has twice visited the World Championship at Ally Pally. I think everyone was absolutely staggered when he first turned up in 2011. A real live Prince wanted to watch darts, it just felt remarkable. Hes a pretty down-to-earth character and everyone really enjoyed him being there. Prince Harry has made two trips to the World Darts Championship I think Adrian Lewis got pretty carried away when Prince Harry went backstage to congratulate him on his semi-final win and ended up planting a kiss on his forehead. It was all taken in good humour and I think Harry enjoyed it.Zara Phillips has also been to watch the darts on a number of occasions with husband Mike Tindall. Its now the sport of princes and princesses. I think Adrian Lewis got pretty carried away when Prince Harry went to congratulate him and ended up planting a kiss on his forehead. Rod Studd Stephen Fry is another example of how you can find all walks of life at the darts. Hes one of the most intelligent men in the country, a Cambridge University graduate, and loves the sport. We invited him to the Premier League finals in 2010 when the lights famously went out, forcing the matches to be postponed until the following evening. Fry cancelled an evening with Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, to watch the Premier League and treat us to his commentary. Stephen Fry was a guest commentator at the 2010 Premier League final Pop stars are also pretty keen on the darts. Last year we had some bloke from One Direction and Justin Hawkins, the lead singer from The Darkness, made the trip when he was trying to get the Christmas No 1.Darts had struggled for many years to get respect as a sport, but now a procession of professional sports people come to watch and are in awe of the skill level and competitiveness at the top level. One Directions Niall Horan was spotted at Alexandra Palace International footballers such as Robin van Persie, Tony Kroos, a World Cup winner with Germany, and Rafael van der Vaart, who obviously did not know much about darts as he asked for a photo with Wayne Mardle, have also attended. But its not just football as champion jockey AP McCoy, snooker stars such as Ronnie OSullivan and Carl Froch, the former boxing world champion, all also come to watch. It just shows the respect that the greatest in their profession have for the darts guys. Watch all of the Premier League Darts matches this Thursday night, from 7pm on Sky Sports 1. British track sprinter Jess Varnish will not appeal against her non-selection for the Rio Olympics, saying it would be a pointless process that is stacked in favour of British Cyclings selectors.Varnish was controversially dropped from the Olympic programme in April, shortly after she and Katy Marchant failed to qualify for this summers Games in the womens team sprint at the World Championships in March. In the aftermath of that disappointment, the 25-year-old from Bromsgrove was highly critical of British Cyclings selections over the two-year qualifying period, and, when her contract was not renewed a month later, she voiced further criticisms of the programme that ultimately resulted in technical director Shane Suttons resignation.British Cycling confirmed its 26-strong team for Rio last week, with a mountain biker still to be added, and said disappointed riders who were not receiving funding would be alloweed to go through the same appeals process as funded riders.dddddddddddd.This was clearly an olive branch to the likes of Varnish but one she has rejected.Ive shared this procedure with a legal expert and the British Athletes Commission, and Im sad to report that it isnt new, said Varnish. Nothing has changed to the other appeals procedures Ive been through. It is heavily weighted in favour of British Cycling, puts significant financial risk on the athlete and ultimately comes down to selectors discretion. Its pretty plain to see that selectors discretion would not be in my favour and appealing would be a pointless process. Its sad that an organisation that once prided itself on fact and data, now picks and chooses riders on discretion - I know Im not the only rider to feel like this. RIO DE JANEIRO -- Australias Olympic team leader is keeping the delegations 700 athletes or staff out of the Athletes Village for at least two days, citing electrical and plumbing problems in the sprawling complex less than two weeks before the start of the games in Rio de Janeiro.Electricity and water is not a good combination, Kitty Chiller told reporters Sunday, when the village was set to be officially opened for athletes.Chiller said this was her fifth Olympics, and she came down hard on village preparations.I have never experienced a village in this state -- or lack of state -- of readiness at this point in time, she said. The 31-building village is expected to house 18,000 athletes and officials at the height of the games. It was not clear how many athletes were housed in the village on Sunday. This is the latest problem for the games, which have been hit by concern about the Zika virus, security threats, water pollution and severe budget cuts.Chiller and Australian team spokesman Mike Tancred described a wide array of plumbing, electrical and cleaning issues at the Village. Tancred said 10 of the 31 buildings were determined to be inhabitable. Were having plumbing problems, weve got leaking pipes, Tancred told AP. Weve got electrical problems. Weve got cleaning problems. Weve got lighting problems in some of the stairwells. We did a stress test on Saturday, turned on the taps and flushed the toilets, and water came flooding down the walls.Chiller listed the same problems, and added more. There was a strong smell of gas in some apartments and there was shorting in the electrical wiring, she said. We have been living in nearby hotels because the village is simply not safe or ready.Chiller said six Australian athletes due to arrive Monday and 50 on Tuesday would temporarily stay in hotels or other accommodation. She said she hopes they can move into the village quickly, and sounded encouraged.I am reasonably confident that we will be able enter the village on Wednesday, she said. She described other amenities in the village as among the best. This is one of the most beautiful villages Ive ever been in, she said. It looks spectacular. There are just teething issues in some of the service inside the building.Several teams are hiring tradesmen to fix the problems, and some may look for compensation from organizers.Italian team leader Carlo Mornati said his national Olympic committee, CONI, had been hiring workmen to carry out repairs for days.Among these unfinished areas are also a few apartments in block 20, the one to be used by Italy, and where manual workers, electricians, plumbers and bricklayers -- hired by CONI officials there as a matter of urgency -- have been working over the past few days so that the athletes accommodation can be brought up to normal conditions as soon as possible, he said in a statement. The U.S. Olympic Committee acknowledged there were small problems. As is the case with every games, were working with the local organizers to address minor issues and make sure the village is ready for Team USA athletes, spokesman Patrick Sandusky told the AP.The International Olympic Committee and local organizers held emergency talks Sunday and said athletes with unfinished rooms would be placed in the best available accommodation in other buildings, estimating that fixing the problems will take another few days.Local reports said about 5 percent of the 3,600 apartments had gas, water and electrical faults, and some were without toilet fixtures.Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes took a shot at the Australians at the opening on Sunday. This is an incredible village, more beautiful and better than Sydney, he said, referring to the 2000 Olympics in Australia. He said he was tempted to put a kangaroo jumping outside to make them happy. The village contains tennis courts, soccer fields, seven swimming pools with mountains and the sea as a backdrop. The apartments are to be sold after the Olympics with some prices reaching $700,000. The development cost about $1.5 billion, built by Brazilian billionaire Carlos Carvalho.New Zealand team leader Rob Waddell said he was disappointed the village wasnt quite ready and it hasnt been easy. Our team has had to get stuck in to get the job done, Waddell said. Its been fair to say there has been more work than we anticipated with the building ... but weve got it to a space now that it will be just fine for athletes when they turn up.New Zealands Olympic rowing champion Mahe Drysdale, who said he was the first athlete from any country to enter the village, added facilities were in need of a few finishing touches.Already taken ownership of the Village being the very first athlete from any country to arrive and get through the gates, Drysdale said on Instagram. All is good.Few finishing touches still to be made but when you arrive at 5am on opening day, you cant expect it to be perfect. George Blanda Jersey . Stan Smith Store . -- Adam Snyder returned to the San Francisco 49ers this season because the offensive lineman thought it was his best opportunity to win a championship. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Brandon Marshall was downright frustrated -- by another tough loss and increasing questions about his struggling quarterback.Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three more interceptions, giving him nine in the last two games, and the New York Jets couldnt get much going on offense in a 27-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.I am shocked, a dejected Marshall said. I expect more out of our offense. Every year is different. Its a little deflating, man. You think youre really close and right when you think its going to be easy, whether in sport or life, you get slapped in the face and humbled. Its disappointing, but thats just the story of life. Its never easy. This is hard, football is hard. Its not for the weary. With all the turnovers the past few weeks, its easy to point fingers at the quarterback first.Marshall, however, insisted that his confidence in Fitzpatrick has not wavered, even with the Jets 1/3 and staring at the season possibly spiraling with road games up next against Pittsburgh and Arizona.Im standing in the ship with him, Marshall said of Fitzpatrick. Obviously, right now, were all looking each other in the eyes and holding each other accountable and pushing each other. At the end of the day, Im going down with the ship with him. I dont like how any of us are playing. Him, myself, all the starters. Weve got to pick it up and play better.Marshall, who had four catches for 89 yards and his first touchdown of the season , bristled when he was asked if the Jets need to assess the quarterback spot. New York also has former starter Geno Smith on the roster, along with 2015 fourth-rounder Bryce Petty, whos recovering from a shoulder injury, and Christian Hackenberg, the Jets second-rounder this year.I am. Going down. In a boat. With Ryan Fitzpatrick. OK? You got it? said Marshall, measuring his words. So can you not ask me any more questions about that? I am. Going down. In a boat. With No. 14.Fitzpatrick was re-signed just before training camp opened in July to a one-year, $12 million deal after a contract stalemate between the quarterback and the team dragged for months. While he threw 31 touchdown passes to set a franchise reccord last season, critics of Fitzpatrick also pointed to his up-and-down tendencies -- and the fact he has never made it to the postseason in his 11-plus NFL seasons.ddddddddddddHe and the Jets offense will need to get better in a hurry if they have any plans on playing in the playoffs this season.Im still confident in our guys, and Im still confident in our offense and the things that we can do, Fitzpatrick said. We just didnt put it together in the second half, and that was unfortunate because we did have a little bit of momentum in the first half. The Jets trailed 14-10 after two quarters, helped by Fitzpatricks 17-yard TD toss to Marshall with 13 seconds left. They had 229 yards of total offense at halftime, but gained just 76 the rest of the game.I think were out of sync right now, said Matt Forte, who was held to just 27 yards on 14 carries. Were not really hitting on all cylinders, so to speak.Fitzpatrick threw three fourth-quarter interceptions against the Seahawks. The second came on a throw intended for Robby Anderson that was picked off by Earl Thomas and led to a 53-yard field goal by Steven Hauschka that put Seattle up 27-10.On the next drive, Fitzpatrick was sacked by Cliff Avril and fumbled, but rookie wide receiver Charone Peake picked up the ball and ran it in for a 42-yard touchdown on a fluke play that cut the Jets deficit to 27-17.New York got the ball back with 1:41 and had a chance to get closer, but the comeback attempt was short-circuited when Fitzpatricks deep pass intended for Marshall was intercepted by Richard Sherman, who had two on the day.I dont worry about questions about his play, Bowles said of Fitzpatrick. I just worry about turnovers. He knows he cant have turnovers. Some of them are unfortunate and not the quarterbacks fault, but nevertheless, the quarterback runs the offense, so he cant turn the ball over. Then, Bowles was asked about his confidence level in Fitzpatrick. No different, the coach said, than when the season started.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '

South Africa 5 for 171 (Amla 47, Starc 3-49) lead Australia 85 (Smith 48*, Philander 5-21, Abbott 3-41) by 86 runsScorecard and ball-by-ball detailsPersistent rain in Hobart forced the abandonment of the second days play between Australia and South Africa without a ball being bowled. It means that South Africa will resume on the third morning at 5 for 171, with Temba Bavuma on 38 and Quinton de Kock on 28, with a lead of 86 runs after Australia were skittled for 85 in seaming and swinging conditions on the first day. However, the forecast for the remainder of the Test is much better, with the possibility of a small amount of rain on day three but the likelihood that the fourth and fifth days should be largely free of rain.Play will start half an hour early on each of the remaining days, with the first ball due to be bowled at 10am. Peter Gammons, an analyst for Major League Baseballs network and website, drew the ire of hockey fans on Sunday when he criticized the two NHL teams on Twitter for their physical game the night before. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Super Bowl Jersey . Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. Marcus Allen Super Bowl Jersey . Uniteds eighth defeat of a wretched campaign means Liverpool, which currently occupies the fourth and final Champions League place, could go nine points clear of its fierce rival by beating West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. Charlie Adam scored both of Stokes goals at Britannia Stadium either side of Robin van Persies equalizer, with a miserable day for seventh-place United capped by first-half injuries to centre halves Jonny Evans and Phil Jones that forced them off.ST. LOUIS -- David Freese waited a long time for this curtain call. He was impressed with the patience of St. Louis fans. Freese hit a grand slam for his first homer of the season, and the Cardinals used a five-run first inning to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-6 on Friday night. "Thats the biggest thing about this, you want to join the fun," Freese said. "Fortunately enough, I havent done squat this year and weve got a heck of a record." The Brewers made it close on a pair of three-run homers by Aramis Ramirez off Jaime Garcia before losing for the 13th time in 15 games. The bottom four spots in the lineup were a combined 0 for 15. "Nice to see Rammy get a couple," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. "I think hes been swinging the ball really well and hasnt had much to show for it." The Cardinals had five hits and a walk while batting around against Wily Peralta (3-4) in the first, but the right-hander was still in the game when Garcia (5-2) was chased with one out in the sixth. Milwaukee got one hit in 3 2-3 innings against three relievers, with Edward Mujica working the ninth for his 12th save in 12 chances. "The bullpen did a great job, they picked me up basically," Garcia said. "I didnt do my job." Ryan Braun reached on a leadoff single in the eighth, but was caught stealing for a double play after Trevor Rosenthal struck out Ramirez. Carlos Gomez then popped up a bunt to end the inning. Freese entered with a .209 average, four RBIs and a .287 on-base percentage, struggling to find his stroke after starting the season on the 15-day disabled list with a back injury from chasing a foul ball in spring training. He batted .293 last year with 20 homers and 79 RBIs, the first time he played more than 100 games in the majors. Freese didnt think failing to produce in his ho
