ALBUQUERQUE, N. Pat Tillman Jersey .M. - Former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson needed an impressive victory over an unheralded Rustam Khabilov to keep his name relevant in the 155-pound title picture, and he delivered, submitting the gritty challenger in the fourth round. The bout served as the headlining matchup of Saturdays "UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Khabilov" event, which took place at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M. Khabilov (17-2) was impressive to start the fight, utilizing powerful strikes and impressive grappling to rattle Henderson (21-3) in the early going. But as the bout wore on, the former champion gained steam and the Russian began to slow. In the fourth round, southpaw Henderson clipped Khabilov with a tricky lead uppercut-left cross combination that sent his opponent toppling to the canvas. Henderson immediately jumped on his opponents back and locked in a rear-naked choke. Trapped, Khabilov had no choice but to tap out 76 seconds into the frame. "Anybody who wants to fight for the belt, come see me," Henderson said after the win. In the nights co-feature hometown lightweight Diego Sanchez (25-7) delivered a typical crowd-pleasing performance, moving forward from start to finish and looking to brawl with British slugger Ross Pearson (15-7). And while it appeared he had come up short at the end of the three-round affair, judges awarded Sanchez a controversial split-decision win. The three-round matchup was a contrast in styles, as Pearson looked to remain technical and move in and out of range. Meanwhile, Sanchez looked to punch, kick and wrestle his way to victory any way possible. As Pearsons strikes started to add up, blood trickled down Sanchezs face. It was an entertaining scrap, but one that Pearson appeared to have won. Two of three judges saw it differently, much to Pearsons dismay. UFC president Dana White, who watched the fights on TV from his home in Maine, called the fight a "robbery." "What can I say?" Pearson asked after the surprising result. "Im confident that I won every round. I didnt get hit once. I guess its my fault for leaving it in the hands of the judges." In a key flyweight matchup, top contender John Dodson (16-6) made his claim for a second crack at the promotions 125-pound belt with a scintillating win over John Moraga (14-3). While the pace was moderate for much of the match, Dodson exploded when the opportunity presented itself, eventually rattling off a series of punches punctuated with a knee that broke Moragas nose. While Moraga made it to the end of the second round, the attending doctor waved off the fight before the third round began. "I really wanted to go to that third round, so Im a little disappointed," Dodson said. "I feel like we cheated the fans out of another five hard minutes. I was landing my shots very well, and it seemed like a caught him with everything I threw." Current UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson puts his belt on the line against Russian slugger Ali Bagautinov at next weeks UFC 174 event in Vancouver. Dodson could very well be in line for the winner. Larry Fitzgerald Authentic Jersey . - The Green Bay Packers got back to work on Friday without star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Arencibia says he has been his own worst enemy in the past. "A lot of my struggles were from doubts and trying to do too many things," the former Blue Jay told reporters Friday upon his return to Rogers Centre with the Texas Rangers. The 28-year-old Arencibia also admitted he had heaped pressure on himself by worrying about all the permutations of what might happen when he stepped into the batting box. Now he has come to the realization that simple is best, it seems. "God gave me abilities to do something special on the field. What are those?" he said. "So I can say All right, I need to work on those things. And not worry about everything else. And when I get into the plate, think of one pitch at the time. Not hey, if I take this pitch, is it going to affect this pitch?" Arencibia endured a horror show of a 2013 season with Toronto, hitting .194 with 148 strikeouts in 474 at-bats. He did hit 21 homers and 54 RBIs. He said it was a year of pressure, his mind going a mile a minute. "Fortunately I was able to put the ball in play at times but I wasnt good," he said. "I was fighting myself," he added. "I was in my own way. That was the biggest thing. I had to go down (to the minors) and kind of get out of my own way." It seems to be working. He slammed a three-run homer off R.A. Dickey in the seventh inning Friday. Arencibia signed with Texas as a free agent, hitting .133 with a .182 on-base percentage in 20 games before being sent to the triple-A Round Rock Express in mid-May. He was recalled Thursday. With three other catchers (Robinson Chirinos, Chris Giminez and Geovany Soto) on the Rangers active roster, Arencibia has been getting a crash course in playing first base. He hit .279 with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs in triple-A. He got the start Friday at first base, becoming the eighth Ranger this season to start there. Asked if he was a first baseman or catcher now, he said that wasnt his decision. "Obviously they know I can catch and they have a lot of catchers on the roster. So right now if playing first is best for the team, thats what Im doing. Ill work hard to be the best first baseman I can be." The stint in the minors helped slow the game down, he said. "I 100 per cent needed it," Areencibia said. J.J. Nelson Womens Jersey. . "It was something that was necessary. I went back and had to iron something out and be who I can be. "That was really the main thing -- changing my mentality and really understanding myself ... Obviously you dont want to be down there, and at the beginning it was tougher but more and more as I was down there, I realized there was good purpose behind it. And I was proud of myself to get past that and bounce back." Arencibia said his struggle was to be himself. "A lot of times I tried to be somebody I wasnt. I tried to be maybe what baseball or whatever I thought needed to do statistically to be a better player. And by doing that, by not being myself, I went backwards. "Im the player I can be (now). I went back to triple-A and really tried to be that." That mindset included being aggressive at the plate "and looking to do damage as opposed to worrying about swinging at a pitch in the first or making this mistake or that mistake." Arencibia was warmly received by some of the Rogers Centre staff before the game, with hugs and handshakes. He said he was not worried about how the crowd might react. "I know the people that cared about me and the people I impacted," he said. "Whatever may be the reaction, good or bad, I wish everybody well. Obviously I cant control that stuff." He received a smattering of boos when the Rangers starting lineup was announced. The fans were far more vocal at his first at-bat -- a strikeout that turned the boos to cheers. Arencibia was far more cutting in Texas in May when quizzed by the Toronto Star about his time in Toronto. "I learned the media controls a lot of things and the only question that you guys were writing in the off-season was what they were going to do behind the plate, when obviously the pitching was something that needed to be addressed," he told the newspaper. "But I was the only question because I was the villain of the team." Asked Friday whether he regretted such comments, he said: "Im not really here to talk about any of that stuff. We all said what we needed to say. Im excited to be back in the major leagues." Arencibias life has also changed off the baseball field. In June, he married Band Perry singer Kimberly Perry in Greeneville, Tenn. Clermont Auvergne made an immediate statement of intent in the Champions Cup as they thrashed Exeter 35-8 at Sandy Park. Robert Ayers Womens Jersey . Exeter, who beat Clermont comfortably on home soil last season before being crushed in the return fixture, were blown away by first-half tries from flanker Julien Bardy, wing Noa Nakaitaci and centre Wesley Fofana during a devastating 15-minute spell. And Exeter had no answer as full-back Nick Abendanon claimed a bonus-point touchdown just three minutes into the second period, before Fofana added another try, while scrum-half Morgan Parra kicked four conversions and substitute Pato Fernandez one. Gareth Steenson kicked an early penalty for Exeter, and Sam Hill added a late try, yet even when they had spells of dominating possession, the home side could find no way through a superbly-organised Clermont defence until injury time.Their victory might not have matched Saracens defeat of Toulon in France on Saturday as the high point of this seasons opening European weekend, but Clermont are majestically off and running in pursuit of a trophy they have never won. Noa Nakaitaci crosses down the left touchline A minutes silence was observed before kick-off in memory of Munster head coach Anthony Foley, who died overnight in Paris, as players and supporters at Sandy Park paid tribute to the 42-year-old.Exeter, with a gusting wind behind them, took charge of early territory and Steenson kicked them into a seventh-minute lead after Clermont lock Sebastien Vahaamahina was guilty of a high tackle.Clermont, having opted to play against the wind in the first-half, restricted Exeter to that solitary Steenson strike following an opening quarter high on endeavour, and they almost pounced when Parra broke clear, but England wing David Strettle could not gather his pass. The visitors, though, did not have to wait much longer for an opening try, which had its origins in some strong work by Fofana before Nakaitaci delivered an exquisite inside pass and Bardy finished off impressively.Parra made light of the testing conditions by effortlessly landing the touchline conversion attempt, and Clermont were off and running, with a second try following just four minutes later after Parras high kick was gathered and slickly moved, with Naikataci crossing wide out. Nick Abendanon scored soon after the break to halt any chance of a Chiefs comeback Another Parra conversion made it 14-3, and Exeters evening showed no immediate sign of improving as hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie, a member of Eddie Jones England elite player squad, was helped off injured before scrum-half Dave Lewis saw a try rightly disallowed for offside.Exeter needed to strike before the break, yet Clermont scored again as they cut the Chiefs defence to shreds when fly-half Camille Lopez glided effortlessly past Steenson and handed Fofana a simple finish from an inside pass.Parras conversion took Clermont 18 points clear, giving Exeter a second-half mountain to climb. WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Jets have given head coach Claude Noel at least a small vote of confidence, signing him to a one-year contract extension. wholesale nfl jerseys . General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff says the rest of the coaching staff will also be offered some job security as well. "You deal with whats right in front of you and the coaching staff now has got an extension to move forward beyond this season and thats something that we all feel comfortable with," Cheveldayoff said Monday. Noel is entering his third season with the team and the one-year extension will take him to the end of the 2014-15 NHL season. Cheveldayoff and Noel said the fact that it was only a one-year extension wasnt that big a deal. "The term really doesnt determine how you do that job. For me the extension is great," said Noel. "Would you rather have a longer term? I think this is fine." Noel led the Jets to a 24-21-3 record last season as Winnipeg finished ninth in the Eastern Conference, four points behind the New York Islanders for the final playoff spot. He coached the Jets to a 37-35-10 record in 2011-12, the clubs first season in Winnipeg after relocating from Atlanta, also missing the playoffs. The former Thrashers havent seen the playoffs since the 2006-07 season, when they were swept in the quarter-finals by the New York Rangers. "I clearly see that we have to make the playoffs but its not easy to make the playoffs," the coach said Monday on a conference call. Prior to the Jets arrival, Noel coached the American Hockey Leagues Manitoba Moose to the second round of the Calder Cup playoffs in 2010-11. Before moving to Winnipeg, he spent four seasons in Columbus as an assistant coach and was head coach for the final 24 games of the 2009-10 season after Ken Hitchcock was fired. The Blue Jackets went 10-8-6 over that span but Noels contract was not renewed. Cheveldayoff also talked about the upcoming NHL draft and his dealings with both restricted and unrestricted free agents. He says the team would like to move up from their current 13th pick in the entry draft but there are also teams lower down that would like to move up as well. There is the potential for deals either way. He has started talks with all the teams restricted free agents and is looking to get them signed. As for unrestricted free agents, they have had some discussions with defenceman Grant Clitsome and goaltender Al Montoya about returning. As for the others, such as defenceman Ron Hainsey, Cheveldayoff said he expects they may try the market but he didnt rule out some returning. He still wants to add depth at forward but with the 13th pick, says its difficult to know who might be available. They will take the best player they can get. Centre Mark Scheifele, their top 2011 draft pick, is expected to join the team this season after playing the last two seasons with his junior squad in Barrie. With so many players able to move, exactly what Noel will have to work with this season is up in the air. "Were not quire sure where our roster is right now but that will be determined through time." He says they still have to work on being more consistent and improving their goals for and against average, but he sees lots of room for growth. "I like our team. I like our players. I like a lot of what they bring to the table," he said. Next season the Jets also move to the Western Conference. "It will be a fun time for us and a big challenge," said Noel. cheap nfl nike jerseys . Grimes signed a $32 million, four-year contract to remain with Miami. A person with knowledge of the contract said Williams is guaranteed $14.625 million. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the terms were not released by the Bills. The extension locks up Williams through 2018, and comes at a time when the Bills risk losing three-time Pro Bowl safety Jairus Byrd, who is preparing to test free agency next week. "I told them I accept the role of leading this defence to where it used to be," Williams said. "Im just blessed that they gave me that opportunity, and they trusted me to be here long-term to get this team back to where it started." Williams, Buffalos second-round pick in the 2011 draft, was entering the final year of his contract. He was rewarded with the extension after successfully making the switch from cornerback to safety last season. In 14 games last year, Williams had a career-best 82 tackles and tied Byrd for the team lead with four interceptions. Overall, he has five interceptions and two forced fumbles in 34 career games. "Aaron is the type of young, core player we targeted early in the process to retain for years to come," general manager Doug Whaley said in a released statement. "We expect Aaron to continue to grow into a key contributor for the Bills organization.&quuot; The question is whether Williams will continue to develop alongside Byrd. cheap jerseys online. This week, the Bills decided against applying the franchise tag for a second consecutive year to retain Byrds rights, opening the door for the fifth-year player to test free agency on March 11. Williams is hoping the Bills can still reach a deal to re-sign Byrd, because the two established a solid on-field rapport last season. "If Jairus does come back, that would be the greatest thing ever, because our chemistry is unbelievable," Williams said. "If he doesnt come back, good luck to him. Were always going to be best friends. ... Well just have to move on and find another piece to try to replace his role." The Bills defence is undergoing another off-season change, with Jim Schwartz taking over as co-ordinator after Mike Pettine left to become the Cleveland Browns head coach. Schwartz has a similar aggressive defensive coaching philosophy, which is expected to ease the transition. "I feel real confident that nothing major is going to change," Williams said. "There might be a few things here and there, but I think team-wise, once we get all the pieces together we will be fine." The Bills also announced free-agent linebacker Jameel McClain had arrived in Buffalo to meet with team. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 245 pounds, McLain spent the past six seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before being released by the team last week. Stuckey had 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists and C.J. Miles scored 20 off the bench for Indiana, which had dropped eight straight coming in. Kobe Bryant put up 21 points on 8-for-26 shooting for LA. Nick Young netted a more efficient 18 points on 12 shots and Carlos Boozer went for 13 and 10 boards in the loss. Final Score: Boston 105, Philadelphia 87 Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kelly Olynyk scored a career-high 30 points as the Boston Celtics hammered the lowly Philadelphia 76ers, 105-87, on Monday. Olynyk shot 12-of-17 from the field and was a plus-29 off Bostons bench, which outscored the Sixers reserves, 61-31. Avery Bradley added 15 points while Brandon Bass and Jeff Green each finished with 14 for the Celtics, who scored 32 points off 23 turnovers en route to snapping a three-game skid. The Sixers remained winless at home (0-13) and have dropped four straight since picking up their second win at Detroit. Nerlens Noel poured in a career-best 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a losing cause. Final Score: Atlanta 93, Chicago 86 Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Al Horford totaled 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as the Atlanta Hawks picked up their first win over the Chicago Bulls in nearly two years with a 93-86 victory. Paul Millsap chipped in 17 points while Jeff Teague added 12 with seven assists for the Hawks, who had dropped six straight against the Bulls since besting them on Dec. 22, 2012. Atlanta bounced back from having its nine-game winning streak snapped at Orlando over the weekend by forcing 16 turnovers and holding the Bulls to 37.6 percent shooting. Jimmy Butler led Chicago with 22 points, while Taj Gibson scored 15 with 17 rebounds in a losing effort. The Bulls had won three straight coming in. Final Score: Toronto 95, Orlando 82 Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Lou Williams 18 points and a strong second half enabled the Toronto Raptors to pull away for a 95-82 victory over the Orlando Magic at Air Canada Centre. The Raptors stepped up on the defensive end to overcome a 52-44 halftimee deficit, holding Orlando to a mere 30 points while forcing 12 turnovers over the final two quarters to earn their 10th straight win over the Magic. Matthew Stafford Womens Jersey. Williams and Kyle Lowry each made big impacts as well, with the latter tallying 11 of his 17 points after intermission in addition to dishing out eight assists. Tobias Harris led Orlando with 18 points but had only four in the second half. Ben Gordon finished with 16 points in the loss, with Nikola Vucevic posting 13 points and nine rebounds. Final Score: Milwaukee 96, Phoenix 94 Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Khris Middletons prayer was answered, and the Suns were handed another heartbreaking loss. Middleton banked in a 3- pointer as time expired to give the Milwaukee Bucks a 96-94 win in Phoenix on Monday. Milwaukee burned two timeouts before the final possession. Middleton came to the ball near the left sideline and let fly with a contested, off- balance trey that hit the backboard and every part of the rim before falling through. Brandon Knight scored 20 points to lead Milwaukee, which overcame the loss of star rookie Jabari Parker to a knee injury to rally to a win. Phoenix lost its sixth straight game in eerily similar fashion to its game against the Clippers on Dec. 8. Blake Griffins game-winning 3 in that one bounced off the front of the rim before sneaking into the basket. Morris had 25 points and Isaiah Thomas gave 20 off the bench. Final Score: Portland 108, San Antonio 95 Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - LaMarcus Aldridge had 23 points and 14 rebounds while Damian Lillard gave 23 points, 10 boards and six assists to lead the Portland Trail Blazers in a 108-95 win over the San Antonio Spurs. Wesley Matthews scored 14 points while Chris Kaman added 11 for the Trail Blazers, who have won two straight and seven of nine. Kawhi Leonard had 21 points and nine rebounds while Aron Baynes and Kyle Anderson each gave 15 points for the Spurs, who have dropped two of their last three. San Antonio rested Tim Duncan for the game, while Manu Ginobili (lower back contusion), Tony Parker (strained left hamstring) and Tiago Splitter (calf) all sat out with injuries. Final Score: LA Clippers 113, Detroit 91 Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Blake Griffin scored 18 points, DeAndre Jordan recorded a double-double and the Los Angeles Clippers breezed past the Detroit Pistons, 113-91, at Staples Center on Monday. Jordan finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds while Jordan Farmar added 15 points for LA, which bounced back from consecutive losses to the Wizards and Bucks over the weekend. Chris Paul committed six turnovers in each of those setbacks but returned to his sure-handed ways, recording 11 points and eight assists while only turning it over once. The Pistons, on the other hand, coughed it up 18 times and trailed by as many as 27 as their two-game winning streak came to a crashing halt. Jodie Meeks netted a game-high 20 points while Andre Drummond donated 18 points and 13 rebounds in a losing cause. Toronto Maple Leafs winger Phil Kessel received a double honour on Monday, being named amongst the NHLs Three Stars for both the week ending Feb. http://www.thepersonalityshop.net/Soccer-Club/Custom-Real-Madrid-CF/ . 2 as well as for the month of February. Kessel was named the Second Star on both lists. In 15 January games, Kessel scored seven goals and added 13 assists to lead the League in points for the month. He registered his fifth career hat trick and collected four assists for seven points over the past week. Minnesota Wild forward Zach Parise was named First Star for the week while Carolina goaltender Anton Khudobin took First Star of the month. Khudobin went 10-4 for the Hurricanes in January with a .927 save percentage and a 2.19 goals-against average. Parise had five assists among his league-best eight points last week. The First Star picked up half of his points (2g, 2a) in a 5-4 loss to Colorado on Thursday, a day before he was named captain of the United States Olympic team. Joe Pavelski earned the Third Star of the month, while Mikael Backlund was named Third Star for the week. http://www.thepersonalityshop.net/NBA/ . He spent the rest of the game making up for lost playing time. Still, Inter moved one point ahead of Parma in the race for fifth place and the final Europa League spot. Udinese remained 14th, 11 points above the relegation zone. Inter was beaten 2-1 by Atalanta at home on Sunday and has won only seven of 16 matches at the San Siro this season, as the squad seems to still be searching for its identity under new owner Erick Thohir and first-year manager Walter Mazzarri.Updates from Saturdays semi-finals at the Paris Masters, with Marin Cilic facing John Isner first and then Andy Murray meets Milos Raonic - watch on Sky Sports 3. Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany could be out for up to eight weeks with a calf injury, Belgium boss Marc Wilmots has said. Earl Campbell Titans Jersey . The central defender was substituted early during Manchester Citys 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League on Tuesday, and has been left out of Wilmots squad for the friendly against Portugal on March 29.However, despite the Belgium coach revealing he expects Kompany to be out for six to eight weeks, Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is hopeful that he will have his skipper back before the end of the season. Talking with the doctor, I think that Vincent has an injury in his other leg - not the same calf as last time. We will see the way he improves, but maybe in one month he can be ready so part of the season he can play, said Pellegrini. It is the third time this season that Kompany has suffered a calf problem, with the 29-year old featuring just 12 times in the Premier League in an injury-hit campaign. But, Pellegrini insists that Kompanys should be able to return before the end of the campaign. It is a new injury in the other calf, a little bit higher behind the knee, added the Chilean. It is similar to [Aleksandar] Kolarov injury a month ago. Kolarov took around three weeks to one month to come back. Pellegrini (left) believes Kompany (right) could return earlier than Belgium boss Marc Wilmots expects Its very important the way he improves in the first two weeks that he starts working - its difficult now to say, but the first thing we think is that he can return in a month.Kompany will miss Sundays Manchester derby, live on Sky Sports, and will almost certainly be ruled out of Premier League clashes with Bournemouth and West Brom in early April, as well as the Champions League quarter-final double-header against Paris Saint-Germain on April 6 and April 12. Having won the first leg 1-0 in Barcelona, Madrid entered the match at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium already in control and quickly sealed its place in the semifinals when Jese Rodriguez scored in the seventh minute.First base has always been a position for power hitters, the mashers who can provide home runs and RBI to anchor your fantasy team and the position will improve its depth with a couple of additions this season. The most notable is Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera, who moves across the infield now that Prince Fielder has moved on to Texas. No matter what position he plays, Cabrera is a top-tier hitter. Since 2007, he leads them majors with 261 home runs, 856 RBI and 706 runs scored, along with a .326 batting average. Leading all of baseball in those categories, with consistent production year after year, makes Cabrera the biggest difference-maker, even when compared with other sluggers at first base. Arizonas Paul Goldschmidt has quickly emerged as an elite option too, in part because he adds stolen bases to his impressive power numbers. Over the past two seasons, Goldschmidt has swiped 33 bases, most among first basemen, and is one of two (Edwin Encarnacion is the other) to record at least 50 homers and 200 RBI while scoring at least 180 runs. Unless your league has an on-base percentage as a category, there is a large gap between the value of Cincinnatis Joey Votto in real life (where hes MVP calibre) and in fantasy, where hes among the top handful at first base. Vottos tendency to walk limits his RBI upside, which is a factor in his fantasy appeal. When you move beyond the top handful of players, there are still plenty of appealing options. Baltimores Chris Davis has outrageous power. He also strikes out a lot, which slowed his arrival as an everyday player but, after 86 home runs and 368 strikeouts in the past two seasons, hes settled in with the Orioles. Two of the more interesting options at first base are long-time stars. Prince Fielder has had more than 100 RBI in six of the past seven seasons, but last years 25 home runs and .819 OPS were career-lows. Going to a hitter-friendly park in Texas does seem like a decent opportunity for Fielder to have a relative bounceback in his numbers. The other veteran, who has shown more decline, is Albert Pujols, who is coming off his worst season and is pretty much a wildcard for the first time in his career. If Pujols regains his form, even somewhat, then 30 home runs, 100 RBI and a .300 average is possible, particularly coming off a season in which his batting aaverage on balls in play was a career-low . Curley Culp Titans Jersey. .258 (same as his average), but there is also the concern that a 34-year-old Pujols isnt going to ever have that legendary bat again. If youd rather avoid the risk of those veterans, Adrian Gonzalez is a steady enough performer and Freddie Freeman is a productive younger slugger who has driven in 203 runs over the past two seasons. Shifting to first base from catcher, Minnesotas Joe Mauer doesnt have the power of a typical top tier first baseman, but hes a career .323 hitter, so if he can stay in the lineup, Mauer will have an opportunity to make a difference in that way. Kansas Citys Eric Hosmer appeared to get back on the right track last season and San Franciscos Brandon Belt has continued to make progress. Both are young, with room to grow, so they offer worthwhile upside if you cant secure the best at the position. Upside comes further down the list too. Whether its White Sox rookie Jose Abreu, the Cuban slugger or across town with the Cubs Anthony Rizzo, who could be prime for big numbers with a little better luck (after a .258 BABIP in 2013). You probably wont have to pay premium prices for someone like Bostons Mike Napoli, even though hes hit at least 20 home runs in six straight seasons, and Oaklands Brandon Moss could be a nice source of mid-to-late round power after slugging 51 home runs in 711 at-bats over the past two seasons. St. Louis Matt Adams is a slugger on his way up and due for a full-time role this year after hitting 17 home runs in 296 at-bats last year. If you get desperate, maybe consider the Yankees Mark Teixeira, who may be ruined by a wrist injury, but has such a track record of putting up power numbers that hes worth a late-round look; certainly around the time that youre willing to venture down the road for Ryan Howard. Anyway, there are a lot of viable candidates to hold down first base for your team, but if your league incorporates corner infielders and DH spots, suddenly first base can thin out in short order, so dont wait too long. Take a good one relatively early, then worry about the upside/bounceback/sleeper options later. INDIAN WELLS, Calif. Sam Mills Panthers Jersey . -- Facing an opponent he had never seen play, Novak Djokovic relied on some old-fashioned word of mouth. Asking around the locker room and getting some intel from his coach, Djokovic went out and beat Alejandro Gonzalez 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 on Tuesday, ending the Colombians surprising run to the third round at the BNP Paribas Open. "It took me a little bit to get used to it," Djokovic said. "Youve got new faces and new players who are able to challenge the top guys, and this is good for the sport. It also makes us work harder and improve trying to get our game to a high level because the guys are coming up." Djokovic, a two-time champion at Indian Wells, earned the only two breaks of the third set, including a seven-deuce game that he closed out with a clever backhand drop volley. John Isner, the lone American remaining in the mens draw, defeated Lu Yen-hsun of Taiwan 6-4, 6-3 to reach the fourth round. Isner fired 13 aces, hit 32 winners and gained the only two breaks of the match. Lu managed just nine winners and never had a break point against Isner. Top-seeded Li Na played Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada in a late match. Gonzalez had never won an ATP Tour match in six tries before Indian Wells. He won third-set tiebreakers in his first two matches here before keeping the worlds second-ranked man on the court for just over 1 1/2 hours. "I just had a big loss of concentration and allowed him to win the second set for no reason," Djokovic said. "Bounced back better in the third, but I obviously cannot allow myself to have these particular concentration lapses in the match at this level." Djokovic had 28 winners to 11 for Gonzalez, who also had 23 unforced errors in his first Masters 1000 event. Djokovic next plays 24th-seeded Marin Cilic of Croatia, who beat 16th-seeded Tommy Robredo 6-4, 6-3. The Serb is the highest remaining seed left after top-seeded Rafael Nadal was upset by Alexandr Dolgopolov a day earlier. Jelena Jankovic routed Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals in a matchup of former tournament champions and No. 1-ranked players. Jankovic next plays second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska, who beat 22nd-seeded Alize Cornet 7-5, 6-3. Jankovic made the quarterfinals for the first time since winning the Indian Wells title in 2010, when she beat Wozniacki. The Dane won the title in 2011 and lost to Maria Sharapova in last years final. But she offered little resistance against Jankovic, who raced to a 5-0 lead in the second set before Wozniacki held at 40-love to avoid getting shut out in front of her fiance, golfer Rory McIlroy. "I kind of found my way, found my rhythm, and I was striking the ball very well out there and took control of the points," Jankovic said. "I just did not let her play what she plays. That was very important." Jankovic was the worlds top-ranked player in 2008. Wozniacki reached the top spot in 2010; shes now No. 12. Jankovic, who is ranked eighth, was the first top-10 player Wozniacki has faced so far this year. Jankovic ended a five-match skid against Wozniacki, with the Serb having recovered from a back problem that occurred in her match two nights earlier. Jankovic didnt hit on Monday and felt too stiff to put her shoes on. "I went on court today not knowing how I was going to feel, if I was going to be limited with my movement or if I was going to play my game," she said. "But I did and I was surprised." Italian qualifier Camila Giorgi failed to build on her upset of defending champion Maria Sharapova, losing to countrywoman Flavia Pennetta 6-2, 6-1. American Lauren Davis withdrew from her match against qualifier Casey Dellacqua of Australia because of a gastrointestinal illness. Dellacqua advanced to the quarters against No. 6 seed Simona Halep of Romania, who beat Eugenie Bouchard of Canada, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. In other mens matches, 30th-seeded Fernando Verdasco beat No. 8 seed Richard Gasquet, 7-6 (5), 6-1; and Roberto Bautista Agut beat Jarkko Nieminen, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (6). It has all the makings of a rout with the Americans adding an eighth win in nine outings of this biennial event. "I had a pretty good year," the soft-spoken Granberg told TSN.ca with a grin from the teams annual rookie tournament in London. A fourth-round selection in 2010, Granberg is worth keeping an eye on with NHL training camps rolling around in less than a week. The six-foot-two, 200-pound defender may not possess the wow-inspiring theatrics of fellow prospect Morgan Rielly, but nonetheless has a chance to contribute with the Leafs when all is said and done this season. http://www.thepanthersofficialstore.com/authentic-thomas-davis-panthers-jersey/ .55 million euros (US$18.6 million) to Spanish tax authorities on Monday to cover any potential irregularities in its signing of Neymar, all the while maintaining its innocence of the fraud charges levied against it.WINNIPEG -- New Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice had a message for the team after they swarmed the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday night. "I went in and talked a little bit about what I saw, congratulated them on facing some tough adversity and winning, thanked them, and then proceeded to cancel the day off that they had tomorrow," he said after the Jets 5-1 victory that snapped a five-game losing streak. "It was good enough tonight but we cant rely on that being good enough in our next game. Weve just got to get better." It was his first night behind the bench after taking over from Claude Noel, who was fired as the Jets struggled lately to beat even teams below them in the standings. The Coyotes (21-15-9) dont fit into that category although they too have struggled recently after a strong start. They opened the season at 14-4-4, have gone 7-11-6 since and Monday was their third loss in a row. "It cant get much lower and we have to get better," said captain Shane Doan. "It seems that we find new ways (to lose) every time. We havent really had an issue with discipline so far this year with penalties and this time we did. You cant create much offence when youre shorthanded." Phoenix handed the Jets eight power plays, although with one of the worst records in the NHL with the man advantage Winnipeg only managed to capitalize on one of them. Fans who have been booing the lacklustre play of the home team lately were on their feet cheering and clapping for much of the game. They didnt even wait until the game started to show how they felt about the coaching change. Maurice got his first cheer during the national anthem when his face showed on the scoreboard. "Its a whole lot nicer being on the home bench when you win Im sure, but it was a very special moment for me in my career and Ill cherish it," said the coach. Olli Jokinen, Eric ODell, Blake Wheeler, Michael Frolik and Devin Setoguchi scored for the Jets (20-23-5), who outshot the Coyotes 38-19. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for Phoenix but it was the only shot Ondrej Pavelec would let in and he won praise for his play from his new coach. Kelvin Benjamin Womens Jersey. "I felt safe with him," said Maurice. Ekman-Larsson scored on the power play at 12:16 but the Coyotes didnt have much time to celebrate. "They did the one thing that we had talked about," said Maurice. "That when adversity came to the door, that next goal was huge." Jokinen batted a behind-the-net pass from Dustin Byfuglien past Mike Smith at 12:52 to tie it up and then ODell scored his second of the season as he dashed in to snap in another at 18:00. Thanks to four power-play opportunities the Jets outshot Phoenix 12-7 in the first period but both their goals were even strength. Winnipegs power play is ranked 25th in the NHL. The Jets kept up the pressure in the second until Wheeler backhanded Mark Scheifeles rebound past Smith to make it 3-1. At the halfway mark of the period the Jets had outshot Phoenix 9-1. They finished the game ahead 38-19. Frolik made it 4-1 at 4:18 of the third when his angled shot beat Smiths glove. Winnipegs power play continued to be toothless until midway through the third when Setoguchi dropped to one knee as he slammed one past Smith and Byfuglien picked up his second assist of the night. "To a man we did a good job of being ready tonight and playing the right way," said captain Andrew Ladd. "I thought we did a good job of getting a lot of pucks to the net and keeping it simple." Setoguchi, who broke a goal-scoring drought that stretched back to Dec. 2, couldnt say whether the coaching change made the difference. "I think everyones work ethic was there and thats what gave us a chance to win the game," he said. Notes: This was only the third time the new Jets have played the old Jets since the Atlanta Thrashers moved to Winnipeg, but with realignment they face each other twice more this season as part of the Western Conference. TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips answers several questions each week. [url=http://www.theworldbaseballclassic.com/Pete-Orr-Te

Posted in IYH Forums by jokergreen0220 at 08:13, Mar 11 2017

TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips answers several questions each week. Pete Orr Canada Jersey . This week, topics cover the Blue Jays pitching plans for Dustin McGowan, the resurgence of Justin Morneau in Colorado, the crazy injuries that players endure, and the decisive actions of NBA commissioner Adam Silver. 1) Earlier in the week, the Jays shifted prospect Marcus Stromans start in Triple-A to match up with the struggling Dustin McGowan. Given McGowans early season issues and Stromans success so far in Triple-A (2-2, 1.69 ERA, 36 Ks in 26.2 IP), do you think the club should make the switch now? How long do you wait on both players? It should be no surprise that Dustin McGowan had an excellent outing on a day that Marcus Stromans start was moved to the same day at Triple-A. Competition can bring out the best in athletes but the question is, can it be sustained? McGowan should be moved immediately to the bullpen and replaced in the rotation by Marcus Stroman. McGowan has struggled with his curve ball this year. That is why the second and third time through the lineups he has struggled. He just doesnt have confidence in his arsenal to face hitters more than once. That is also why his walks and hit batters are so high this year (10/3). He has allowed a total of 40 base runners in 23 innings pitched. McGowan thrived in relief last season. The Jays bullpen is scuffling this year. It makes all the sense in the world to put McGowan back in a role where there is a need and he has had recent success. It is not like McGowan is a young guy who is going through growing pains. Plus he has said that he feels fatigued at the 60-pitch mark in most starts. Stroman is ready. He has 36 strikeouts and seven walks in 26.2 IP. He is a strike-throwing machine. He has not given up a home run either. I always wanted to call up a player to the majors when he was pitching his best, so he has extreme confidence in his stuff and approach. Stroman is primed and ready to go. He should start on Sunday for the Jays against the Pirates. Make the move Alex. 2) Justin Morneau (third in the NL with 22 RBI, a .343 batting average with six home runs) looks like a great player again. Its a small sample size, but do you see him continuing to be a big factor for the Rockies? Is the move to Colorado the easy explanation, or is there more to this story than just thin air? When a pitcher wants to resurrect his career he signs with the Padres so he can pitch in PETCO Park. The expansive outfield is conducive to a low ERA and the potential to getting a big free agent contract. When a hitter wants to resurrect his career the first team he calls is the Colorado Rockies. Who doesnt want to hit at Coors Field? I anticipated that Justin Morneau would be rejuvenated in Colorado but I had no idea that it would look this good. He hit 17 homers last year with the Twins but after his trade to Pittsburgh he didnt homer in 77 at bats. It looked like he was closer to the end of his career than the prime. I think Morneau has found his confidence again. What is impressive is that he is hitting both at home and on the road. There is no fall off in his numbers away from Coors Field. I dont think that he will sustain this level of production but he will still be a real value to the Rockies considering the two-year $12.5M contract. I am anticipating a .300 batting average with 25 homers and 100 RBI at the seasons end. He is back! 3) San Francisco Giants starter Matt Cain missed Tuesdays start after he cut his finger while making a sandwich in the clubhouse. What is the most unusual injury that you recall one of your players getting while you were a GM with the New York Mets? There have been some crazy injuries over the years in baseball. Cut fingers have happened when players have washed the dishes, gone fishing and punched electric fans. We have seen post-game celebrations lead to torn knees (Chris Coghlan, Marlins) and broken ankles (Kendrys Morales). Former pitcher Carl Pavano injured himself one off-season with the Yankees when he was shoveling and slipped on ice and jammed the shovel in his stomach lacerating his spleen. Jonathan Lucroy, a catcher for the Brewers, broke his right hand when reaching for a suitcase under the bed when on a road trip with his wife. Joba Chamberlain, now a reliever with the Tigers, dislocated his ankle while a member of the Yankees, while jumping on a trampoline with his five-year old son. Former Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya missed three games of the 2006 ALCS because he hurt his wrist from playing too much Guitar Hero. Over the years, I saw some bizarre injuries with my players. I once had a player who could not make a spring training start because he had laid out in the sun at the beach the day before and had such bad sunburn he could barely move. I once had a veteran pitcher who really struggled to recover between starts. He had so many aches and pains that it took everything he had to take the ball every fifth day. Other players on the team had been seeing a chiropractor away from the ballpark and swore by him. The players convinced me to let the guy work on them in the clubhouse. He did whatever it was that he did to this veteran pitcher the day before his start but the next day was a big problem. My pitcher came in and was so bruised and sore from the treatment that he was not able to take the mound. The treatment that was supposed to help him pitch kept him from pitching. Finally, Mike Piazza, our superstar catcher had a thumb injury in the NLDS against the D-Backs in 1999. It was iffy as to whether he could play or not. Our team doctor said that with a cortisone injection Piazza would have a good shot to play. Unfortunately, Piazza had an allergic reaction to the injection and his thumb swelled up so much he couldnt fit his hand in his glove or grip a bat. He couldnt play. Again an injury stemming from treatment intended to help him. The good news is that his replacement Todd Pratt played extremely well and hit a game-deciding homer in Game 4 of the series propelling us to the NLCS. The one thing I have learned from baseball is just when you think you have seen it all something else bizarre happens. I cant wait to see what happens next. 4) Every commissioner in every sport has to tip his cap to Adam Silver of the NBA. In fact all of us should do the same. Silver has already defined his legacy in just four months on the job. He is the owners Commissioner as well as the players Commissioner. He is the fans Commissioner. In addition, he is the Commissioner of doing what is right. By banning LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life and fining him $2.5 million he left no doubt that the League will be protected from the hateful thinking that still exists in the world. By initiating the process to have the owners force Sterling out of the League completely he made it clearer that if you think that way you have no business in the business of basketball. There is no place for racism and discrimination in sports or in society. Adam Silver made it loud and clear that there is no racism in his and our NBA. I hope and pray that every commissioner in every sport would have taken the same action. Over a decade ago baseball rid itself of Marge Schott. The former owner of the Reds once said that she felt that Adolf Hitler was initially good for Germany and did not understand how the epithet "Jap" could be offensive. The NFL plans to enforce the rule which calls for a player to be penalized if an official hears the "N-word" in game. I would like to believe that Jackie Robinson is smiling today looking down upon all of us. But is he? It is easy to identify racists like Sterling and Schott. Their loud mouths and bravado make them stick out like a sore thumb. Yet it took years to take action upon them. Why? Because they paid a bunch of money for a team? Because they deserve fairness? Because people are afraid to confront hatred? I am not sure that there is less racism today or whether people are just better at hiding it. If Donald Sterling hadnt been recorded illegally I still wouldnt know he was a racist. This same sort of behavior and conversation takes place every day across our countries behind closed doors. Peoples make judgments of others based upon religion, skin color, political beliefs, financial wherewithal, etc. I do believe that if someone is a racist his or her beliefs will ooze out of their pores at some point. They will show their true selves in a more subtle way than back when Jackie Robinson broke the colour barrier. They wont be as vocal as Sterling or Schott but those on the receiving end will know exactly where they stand in the persons mind. We have to stop covert racism just like we have to stop the obvious stuff. I believe racism is learned. Babies arent born with hatred. They are born accepting of all. At some point parents, relatives and neighbors impact a childs way of thinking. Kids are taught to see the differences in people and to make judgments about those differences. I firmly believe that Donald Sterling and Marge Schott learned racism from their parents. I know there are some people who will publicly or privately support and defend Sterling. Those people probably will never change. It is the people who arent dead set in their beliefs or who are willing to look at the world differently than their parents that can start to change. We may need to keep changing the world one family at a time. But we can. Where there is a crisis there is an opportunity. Adam Silver could have done a number of different things to Sterling, yet he chose to ban him for life and kick him out of the league. He saw this as an opportunity to who he is and what the NBA stands for. I hope we can all look at this week as an opportunity to identify what we have in common with one another. Baseball is as diverse a sport as there is now. It has become an international game. Whether players are from Asia, the Caribbean, Mexico, Australia, Europe or the U.S. they have far more in common than not. Baseball prevails over language barriers, socioeconomic background, education and political beliefs. It is a game for everyone. A game that should allow full and equal access for all no matter what. I believe this week was historic not only for the NBA but also for baseball and every other sport. It was historic for every society all over the world. Where there is a crisis there is an opportunity. We will all face a crisis around race at some point over the next few days, weeks, months or year. I hope we all have the courage to address it like Adam Silver did. I cant wait for my crisis. Luke Gregerson USA Jersey .ca has you covered for whos in, whos out and what to expect from all 30 teams. The half-time hooter sounds this week on the first phase of the Super League season and I thought it was a good time to look at the standout performers so far. Gary Zimmerman Authentic Jersey . It is not easy to recall all of the action from the 66 games we have had so far, so I have chosen to look at the Opta scoring system as a guide. I will begin by saying that it is not perfect, but I would be interested to meet anyone in the world who has a better way of objectively measuring the performance of the players in our top league. The people at Opta watch every match and record every action, good and bad. They award points to each player for the positive things he does and take then off him for any obvious mistakes or errors. They then add a weighing to this dependent on the time in the game, the position on the pitch and the score at the time. Scoring a 50-metre try under the post in the 50th minute when your team are already 50 points in front does not earn you as many points as it would if you were five points behind with 50 seconds remaining. He is fit, fast and a tough competitor. More than anything else, he knows how to play, and would be my tip for Man of Steel at this stage. Phil Clarke on Wigans John Bateman The scoring system does not have any favourites or bias and is done the same for every game. So unlike the voting system for the Man of Steel, it is consistent and happens after every match. So, which players rank the highest at the half-way point? Some of the names might surprise you, you may disagree with it, but this is the team of the year so far according to Optas scoring.Full-back: Zak HardakerThe Rhinos have clearly struggled in 2016 and their full-back has not played as well as he did 12 months ago, but he is still up there as one of the best players in the competition. Despite not firing like he did in 2015, Zak Hardaker is still the best-performing full-back His three closest contenders are Tony Gigot from the Dragons, Matt Russell at Warrington and Dan Sarginson for the Warriors.Wingers: Denny Solomona and Dom ManfrediNot only is the Tigers left winger one of my favourite players, he is also one of the most improved players competition. On the other wing is a man who is perhaps the most enthusiastic player when it comes to returning kicks from his corner of the field. Denny Solomona is one of the most improved players in Super League Matt Russell is probably the only player who is more difficult to stop and put down than the lad from Leigh who plays for the Cherry and Whites.Ranking just behind these two with a slightly lower average game score are Jermaine McGillvary at the Giants, Corey Thompson at Widnes and a possible contender for Young Player of the Year, Tom Johnstone from the Wildcats.Centres: Leroy Cudjoe and Anthony GellingIt may come as a big surprise to many that the player with the highest game score after Round 11 is the Giants right centre. He has played in every minute of every match and been better this year than in 2015, according to the stats. I cannot wait to see him play against Wigan on Thursday night, especially if he is opposite Anthony Gelling. In spite of the Giants Super League standing, Leroy Cudjoe has been a top performer The next three players to rank below were Kallum Watkins, Josh Griffin at Salford - who has played both centre and wing this season - and Kirk Yeaman at Hull.Stand-off: Danny BroughSome might question how he has made it into this team when his side are at the bottom of the table. Well, his runs, passes, tackles and kicks have earned him more points than any other stand-off. Huddersfields Danny Brough has led his side well during a tough period Surprisingly Kurt Gidley ranks second and Kevin Brown sits just below.Scrum-half: Joe MellorAt 25 years of age, the Vikings No 7 is peaking. He has not missed a Super League game for over a year and is one of the main reasons why Widnes sit in fifth spot. The second highest ranked scrum-half is Richard Myler. His move to France seems to have helped him kick-on with his career, and he looked fantastic last week at St Helens. Joe Mellor has helped propel the Vikings in to fifth spot in the standings Luke Gale never fails to impress me and demonstrates a level of intelligence and understanding that is greater than most players in the sport. The fourth ranked player will surprise most people, but perhaps not Chris Chester. Liam Finn does not have the speed of his rivals but has set up lots of tries for the Wildcats and made many kicks which have helped his team to win almost half of their games. Props: Chris Hill and Adam CuthbertsonThe job description for most front rowers is quite straightforward but these two add a level of subtlety that sets them apart - the Wolves front rower is certain to be a candidate for Man of Steel.Adam Cuthbertson has tried as hard this year as last but it makes a huge difference when youre not on the winning side. He has not caught the eye as much as he is more closely monitored by his opponents but he is still the stand-out front rower in the Opta ranking. Leeds Rhinos Adam Cuthbertson has maintained his good form in 2016 Four other big men who have done well in the first half of Super League XXI are Craig Kopczak of Salford, Castlefords Andy Lynch, Adam Walker of Hull KR and Kyle Amor from St Helens.Hooker: James RobySome teams ask their hooker to do different things and as a result may not spend as long on the field or make as many runs and metres, which will obviously affect their ranking. However, if we consider them all to have the same time to attack and defend then it gives us a level field from which to compare them. Without James Roby, St Helens would have really struggled James Roby - It is perhaps as well that the Saints No 9 has not been one of their injured players in 2016, as they would have struggled without him.Just behind him sit Daryl Clark from Warrington, who has looked great for most of the season and has an incredible strength that allows him to push defenders away. Danny Houghton is Mr Consistency at Hull and deserves to be in a top four team. Will this be the year?In the absence of Paul Aiton, Eloi Pellisier has been given greater time and looked great in most of it.Second Row: John Bateman and Glenn StewartWigan used ex-Bulls back rower Bateman as a centre last week and he could almost get selected in any position - he is that good. He is fit, fast and a tough competitor. More than anything else, he knows how to play, and would be my tip for Man of Steel at this stage. Glenn Stewart has been part of a resurgent Catalans Dragons outfit in 2016 Glenn Stewart might just be the most important player Catalans have ever recruited. They have had loads of attacking player, but none who seem as determined to defend as he does. The next three players were Liam Farrell, Ben Currie and Brett Ferres.Loose forward: Jamie Jones-BuchananThe veteran Rhino has missed four of their matches, but performed well in the others. Jamie Jones-Buchanan scored a crucial try against Hull FC last week His three closest competitors are Michael Lawrence at Huddersfield, Ukuma Taai also from the Giants and Atelex Vea in the six games he has played for the Saints.Do you agree with Phil Clarkes views? Not yet.Hamilton won the U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday, moving 24 points clear of Rosberg with just two races left. It was Hamiltons second win in Texas in three years, his 10th on the season and fifth in a row. This whole season has been incredible, Hamilton said after playfully taking former world champion Mario Andrettis black Stetson cowboy hat on the winners podium. I pushed as hard as I could.Mercedes had another 1-2 finish in a dominating season that has pushed Hamilton and Rosberg well clear of the pack in the title chase. Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo was third for his eighth podium finish on the season.Rosberg could still find a way to steal the title from Hamilton. Formula One moves to Brazil next weekend and the final race in Abu Dhabi will be worth double points in a rule change this season.Full attack, Rosberg said. Well try to be on the pole and win (in Brazil). Theres a lot of points to be had.Hamilton said aggressive driving got him this far and he wont try to dial it back over the final two races. Were hunting for those points. So far, Ive done what Ive needed to do. I should continue to do the same, Hamilton said.Hamiltons victory also was career win No. 32, which passed Nigel Mansell for the most Formula One victories by a British driver. Hamilton won the world title in 2008 with McLaren. The Mercedes drivers have waged a season-long duel for the title, a tense back-and-forth that has strained their long friendship, and Sundays race was more of the same.Rosberg started from pole position and Hamilton chased him for 23 laps, steadily keeping up the pressure and slowing gaining on him. Hamilton finally made his move on lap 24, squeezing inside Rosbergs left on the tight 12th turn out of the long straightaway. It was the same spot and a similar move to Hamiltons pass of Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel that propelled him to the victory here in 2012.There wasnt a place in the race where I didnt think I would catchh him, Hamilton said. Shannon Sharpe Womens Jersey. Its such a great feeling to have a race like that.Dropped into second, Rosberg couldnt keep up and Hamilton put more time between their cars with every lap. Hamilton had the more muscular car through the weeks practice sessions, but lost the pole position because of braking problems that dogged his session. After taking the lead, Hamilton quickly built a gap of more than 2.5 seconds. Rosberg tried to claw back but didnt have enough race left to do it. By the final laps, the biggest challenge for Hamilton was not getting caught up or wrecked by other drivers battling for final position.I knew there was a chance he would try. I went halfway defensive, on the pass, Rosberg said. Later I started to find better rhythm, but it was just way too late.Vettel, the defending race and world champion, started from pit lane after incurring a penalty for using his sixth engine of the season. He fought all the way back to finish seventh.Vettel has been surpassed within Red Bull this season by Ricciardo, who has won three times. Vettel is leaving Red Bull at the end of the season, but has yet to confirm where hell drive in 2015.Ricciardo was pleased to get another podium finish. As we know Mercedes is a bit out of reach so third, I think third is the best we could do today, Ricciardo said. The race started with just 18 cars, the smallest field in nearly a decade after financial problems forced teams Marussia and Caterham to drop out.Saturdays practice and qualifying was dominated by speculation that three more struggling teams, Lotus, Sauber and Sahara Force India, could stage a protest by either boycotting the race or pulling out after one lap. Neither threat materialized. The race went under safety car on the first lap when Force Indias Sergio Perez collided with Saubers Adrian Sutil, knocking both drivers out. The crash was a major blow for Sauber, which hoped to capitalize on Sutils first top-10 qualifying position of the season. He completely hit me. He ruined the race and I had to stop. My car was completely broken, Sutil said.Force India then lost its second car when Nico Hulkenberg retired in the 17th lap. This is how they describe their version of the puck. Sebastian Janikowski Womens Jersey . "The Aalto Puck is made in the same material as a regular hockey puck and behaves in the same way on ice with one fundamental difference. It has a built in randomness, it doesnt bounce as a regular puck, it can, depending on how its hit, speed off in different ways and more importantly, by adding an element of chance its the most equal puck produced. Advantages are randomly given to either of the two competing teams. By adding the element of chance this small puck changes the big picture." To be honest, this will be a very hard idea to get past hockey purest, however evolutionary thinking always does cause a big stir in the beginning. Perhaps the puck should be part of the conversation. Derek Carr Womens Jersey . The above paragraph could be rewritten, verbatim, with Marcus Stromans name in place of Romeros. Saltalamacchia drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning, Henderson Alvarez won for the first time in three starts and the Miami Marlins beat the Braves 3-2 on Thursday night. "He threw me a lot of sliders tonight, which is not what hes done in the past, but Id swung over a slider two nights ago and struck out," Saltalamacchia said. "I dont blame him. He made a mistake and I was able to do something with it." In taking three of four games, the Marlins won just their second series in the last 10 against the Braves at Turner Field. Alvarez (7-5) gave up six hits, two runs and one walk with four strikeouts in eight innings. The Marlins are 13-3 in his last 16 starts. Kimbrel (0-2), pitching in a non-save situation with the score tied 2-all to begin the ninth, struck out Garrett Jones and had Marcell Ozuna struck out, too, but the ball a wild pitch rolled a few feet from the plate after bouncing off catcher Evan Gattis shin guards and Ozuna reached safely. With Saltalamacchia batting, Ozuna advanced to second on another wild pitch and scored on the RBI single to centre, easily beating B.J. Uptons throw to the plate. Saltalamacchia went 3 for 4 with two doubles. "I think its my third time facing him," Saltalamacchia said. "Hes an All-Star closer. Hes got great stuff and really has a great idea of what hes doing out there. In that situation, Im just trying to not get too big, put a ball in play." Kimbrel, a four-time NL All-Star, allowed one hit and one run and struck out two. He blamed himself for the wild pitches. "Thats part of baseball," Kimbrel said. "As far as today, that one fastball I just left out over the plate," Alvarez said through an interpreter. "He handled it, but as far as my struggles against the Braves, its just been coincidence." The Marlins tied it 2-all in the fifth on Adeiny Hechavarrias RBI single and Christian Yelichs forceout. Aaron Harang, who was attempting to win his fifth straight decision, gave up seven hits, two runs and two walks and struck out five in seven innings. Marlins manager Mike Redmond successfully challenged that Justin Upton was out to end the sixth. Scherzer avoided arbitration in January, agreeing to a one-year deal that is reportedly worth $15.25 million. The Cy Young winner can become a free agent after the 2014 season. Talks with agent Scott Boras for a long-term deal continued through the spring, but were unsuccessful and the Tigers said Sunday that further discussions would not take place during the season. TORONTO -- Head coach Scott Milanovich will have to look for another big-play threat coming out of the Toronto Argonauts backfield this season. Jaguars Jerseys . Veteran halfback Chad Kackert retired Sunday, the opening day of the CFL teams training camp. The five-foot-eight, 206-pound Kackert led Toronto to victory in the historic 100th Grey Cup in 12 but has been slow recovering from a broken left leg suffered prior to last years East final. Kackert, 27, will remain with the Argos as their strength-and-conditioning coach. Hell also continue working to rehab his leg and hasnt completely closed the door on resuming his pro career. "Never say never," he said. "I just dont feel like Im anywhere close to being ready to play football, its an issue of range of motion, to be specific. "I want my leg to get better just because who wants to walk around on a gimpy leg the rest of his life? If its sooner rather than later then I will re-evaluate but as of right Im going to get my leg better and coach this team as far as strength and conditioning goes." Despite playing just three seasons in Toronto, Kackert quickly emerged as an offensive threat. He rushed for 1,467 yards on 228 carries -- an impressive 6.4-yard average -- with 12 touchdowns while adding 50 receptions for 454 yards, two TDs. "Chad was a home-run hitter," Milanovich said. "Hed get a crease and could go to the house and thats nice. "He also brought an intangible. The players loved seeing him succeed. When he got the ball and did well, it just kind of ignited our football team. Well see whos around to replace that but well certainly miss those things." Kackert rushed for 638 yards on 100 carries during the 2012 season -- both career highs -- but was at his best in the playoffs. He ran for 139 yards and a TD in Torontos 27-20 road win over Montreal in the East Division final. The next week before over 50,000 fans at Rogers Centre, Kackert was named the MVP of the 100th Grey Cup game, rushing for 133 yards on 20 carries and recording eight catches for 62 yards in the Argos 35-22 win over the Calgary Stampeders. Kackert appeared in just nine games last year, rushing for 480 yards rushing on 71 carries (6.8-yard average) as Toronto (11-7) finished atop the East Division to secure home-field for the conference final. But Kackert didnt play in the Argos 36-24 loss to Hamilton, breaking his left leg during practice. "It was a no-contact practice, freak injury," Kackert said. "I was just running a route, didnt see the defensive end running his twist. "We knocked shoulders and my foot caught the turf and that was it." Injuries plagued the hard-running Kackert throughout his brief Argos tenure but he knew immediately this one was serious. "It hurt," the former University of Hampshire star said. Still, Kackert spent the off-season working to strengthen his leg, accepting he might even have to spend the early part of the season on the injured list before returning. But Kackert realized Friday he simply wasnt ready to go. "I dont want a handout," he said. "I dont want to come on to a team and take a paycheque while Im sitting around not helping anybody. "Im in a position now where I can help people. Its a different contract but its a priceless opportunity." Milanovich wasnt surprised about Kackerts retirement. "I wasnt expecting him to be here as a player," Milanovich said. "It was a very serious injury, particularly with his style of playing using his quickness and speed, and we were planning all along, unfortunately, to have to replace him." But not let him go altogether. Milanovich said he and GM Jim Barker began discussing about two weeks ago the possibility of offering the immensely popular Kackert the strength-and-conditioning position. "Kack is such an integral part of our team," Milanovich said. "Kack is too good a person to not find a way to let him and make him be a part of this. "Thats where it started and we were lucky it was something he was interested in." Very interested, as it turns out. "Its very important to me because Ive fallen in love with this city and Ive kind of established a home base out here," he said. "Jim is never going to make a decision thats going to hinder the team or not get it to the Grey Cup. "Im really honoured to be able to stay here and help get the guys back to where we need to go." However, Kackert admitted it felt a little odd Sunday in his new job. "Its a little tiring standing for three, four hours straight," he said with a chuckle. "But it felt good, the guys are buying in and I appreciate that from them. "Theyre calling me, Coach, already and asking me for workout tips. It will be fun. Im going to learn a lot, theyre going to learn a lot." Teammate Chad Owens was shocked to learn of Kackerts decision "He told me about it (Saturday) and I was kind of lost for words," Owens said. "Its sad because injuries happen in this game, we all understand that . . . but there are certain guys you pray and hope nothing but great things for just because theyre good people. "Kack is probably the most genuine person Ive ever encountered. He is the epitome of a team player. Im going to miss going into battle with him out there on the field because he brought everything he had. He was a playmaker." Kackerts departure creates an open race for the starters job among the seven running backs in camp. Sophomore Curtis Steele does have the benefit of experience in Torontos offence but Milanovich said rookie Anthony Coombs, Torontos 2014 first-round pick, remains very much in the picture. "Its wide open," Milanovich said. "Curtis has an advantage because hes been here and been in the offence but it could be any of those guys at this point." The five-foot-nine, 190-pound Coombs, a Winnipeg native who played at the University of Manitoba, said Kackerts retirement hasnt changed his approach. "Its pretty much the same because we had a lot of good backs that just came in this year," he said. "Its not like its free pickings now. "It (starting) is a huge possibility . . . but you cant think too far ahead. Ive just got to get used to the speed of the game and its coming along slowly but surely. Whether Kackert is in or out I still have the same mentality: Show up to practice, learn the playbook and get better." NOTES -- Lost in Kackerts retirement was Toronto released offensive lineman Scott Mitchell on Sunday. Foster, who netted the final four points in regulation, including a game-tying jumper with nearly eight seconds left in the second half, got the ball at the top of the arc. He dribbled to his right and rose over Buddy Hield from the right wing for the go-ahead score. TaShawn Thomas was off the mark on a desperation triple at the other end. Foster finished with 14 points, while Stephen Hurt added 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Wildcats (9-7, 2-1 Big 12), who have won two straight on the heels of a three-game losing streak. That win was big time, Foster said. Oklahoma is, in my eyes, one of the best teams in the conference. This is a real good win for us, especially being away. Hield netted 20 of his 31 points in the first half and Thomas supplied 14 points and 11 boards for Oklahoma (11-4, 2-1), which had its four-game winning streak snapped. I thought they (Kansas State) were quicker to loose balls, more physical on the boards, dictated pretty much the majority of the day, and certainly thats disappointing. We have to play better, OU coach Lon Kruger said. Thomas hit a pair of free throws for a 55-51 Oklahomaa cushion with 2:26 left in regulation. Yannick Ngakoue Jersey. Foster nailed a jumper with 36 ticks to play and after Ryan Spangler missed the front end of a one-and-one, Foster hit another jumper to tie it with eight seconds on the clock. Jordan Woodard was off the mark on a trey in the waning seconds. Two Hurt free throws gave the Wildcats a 63-59 advantage with 1:38 remaining in overtime, but Thomas answered with a pair of foul shots and Hield drove in for a layup to knot the tilt with 33 ticks to play, setting up Fosters game- winner. Earlier, Hield nailed a trio of triples and netted 13 quick points as the game was knotted 15-15 following his layup at the 12:45 mark of the first half. The Wildcats took a 31-30 edge into the break. After Hurts layup staked Kansas State to a 44-36 advantage with 13:13 remaining in regulation, Oklahoma answered with a 10-1 run to take its first lead of the second half. Spanglers steal and layup capped the surge and gave the Sooners a 46-45 edge with 8:14 on the clock. Game Notes Kansas State has won four of its last six games at Oklahoma ... The Wildcats had dropped 10 of their last 11 games on the road ... The Sooners fell to 7-1 at home this year ... Hield finished 11-of-20 from the field and 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. LOUIS - The pass rush was supposed to be a St. Louis Rams strength with four first-rounders on the defensive line running Gregg Williams aggressive scheme. Instead, theyve gotten to the quarterback just once in three games, a sack by rookie Aaron Donald.Eight teams are in double figures when it comes to sacks. St. Louis (1-2) is dead last in the 32-team NFL going into Sundays game at Philadelphia and its the rushing defence thats likely to blame for the lack of sacks. So far, the Rams have surrendered 100-yard games to Cordarrelle Patterson, Bobby Rainey and DeMarco Murray. Teams are running so well, St. Louis has faced the fewest pass attempts in the NFL.Were creating an opportunity for teams to pick up significant gains on the ground, coach Jeff Fisher said. And if anybody had their preference, they do it that way. This week will be another challenge. LeSean McCoy is averaging just 2.7 yards per carry, but Darren Sproles has a 6.7-yard average. The Eagles (3-1) were limited to 22 yards on 12 carries last week in a loss to the 49ers.Can we mimic a few of those things? Williams said. Hopefully. Well see. The difference is what you do in space.Despite the lack of a ground game, Eagles quarterback Nick Foles was sacked just once for a 4-yard loss. Thats the lone sack the Eagles have surrendered the last three games.Even with Chris Long on injured reserve-designated to return with an ankle injury since the opener, it has to be a frusttration. Missed tackles and assignments leading to big gains have been critical in the two losses. We had some opportunities this past week. We whiffed and just missed some free rushers and that kind of stuff, Williams said. A few of those plays, you just cant explain why some smart guys like that would do that.Williams said the system hasnt changed much since Fisher became head coach in 2012, so that shouldnt be an issue. The Rams have used a lot a three-man fronts, especially against Dallas, with zero success. This week, they dont seem overly concerned about countering the Eagles up-tempo offence. Were fine with the packages we have, Williams said. If they sub then we have as much time as we want, we can make that decision if we want.NOTES: The Rams could have six wide receivers on Sunday if Tavon Austin (knee) is ready. BALTIMORE - The most surprising aspect of Steve Smiths performance against the Carolina Panthers was that it didnt include taunts or bluster. A.J. Green Youth Jersey .Smith opted to punish the Panthers through his play on the field, and by the end of the afternoon the 35-year-old receiver had made a definitive statement.Smith burned his former team with seven catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Baltimore Ravens to a 38-10 victory Sunday.Smith spent 13 seasons with Carolina before he was released during the off-season in a cost-cutting move. Proving hes still got a knack for making the big play, Smith scored twice in the second quarter to help put Baltimore (3-1) in front 21-7 at halftime. And he didnt get in the face of the defender on either occasion.I didnt have anything good, bad or indifferent to say. I just played. At the end of the day, honestly they didnt deserve anything I had to say that would be derogatory a€” and I didnt need to, Smith said. They didnt even deserve me to spin the ball on them. I just caught it and put it down and went about my business. His first touchdown came on a pass that deflected off the right hand of teammate Owen Daniels. Smith caught the ball in stride and took it into the end zone to complete a 61-yard play.Nothing the Panthers havent seen before. He did some really good things, Carolina coach Ron Rivera said. And thats who Steve is.Smith also scored from 21 yards out with a diving reception. He celebrated in dignified fashion, taking the ball with him to the sideline for safekeeping. Before the game, it was evident to Ravens coach John Harbaugh that Smith was going to keep his yapping to a minimum. He recognized the gravity of the situation, Harbaugh said, the need to get control of those emotions. It was also a huge day for Joe Flacco, went 22 of 31 for 327 yards and three touchdowns.Carolina (2-2) has lost two straight, both in lopsided fashion against AFC North foes.Cam Newton completed 14 of 25 passes for 197 yards. Under duress for much of the afternoon, he was sacked twice.Newton received little help from a running game that was without leading rusher Jonathan Stewart (knee), and DeAngelo Williams left in the second quarter with an ankle injury.Carolinas defence was also spotty. One week after yielding 264 yards rushing in a loss to Pittsburgh, the Panthers gave up 454 yards of offence and 25 first downs.Worse, the Panthers lost a fumble, didnt force a turnover and were penalized seven times a€” twice for having 12 men on the field.Apparently weve got to look at what were doing and make sure it gets corrected, Rivera said. Weve got to find answers and weve got to do it quickly.Flacco led four drives of 80 yards, all of them resulting in touchdowns. Justin Forsett ran for 68 yards, backup Lorenzo Taliaferro gained 58, and each scored. The Panthers held the ball for nearly eight minutes on the opening possession and drove to the Baltimore 17 before a penalty and sack took them out of field goal range. After that, neither team got close to scoring until Smith caught the deflection to put the Ravens up 7-0 early in the second quarter. After the score, he took a bow in the end zone, ran off the field and heaved the ball into the stands.Carolina tied it with an 80-yard drive, capped by Newtons 28-yard pass to wide-open rookie Kelvin Benjamin in the front left corner of the end zone.Baltimore quickly responded. Flacco threw for 39 yards and Forsett ran for 41, capping it with an 11-yard touchdown for a 14-7 lead. After the Panthers went three-and-out for the first time, Smith got his second touchdown despite being harassed by cornerback Melvin White, who was called for pass interference. What made the score even more special was that Flacco fumbled the snap, scooped up the ball and lofted a floater that found its mark in the end zone.Torrey Smiths first touchdown of the year, on a 24-yard catch, made it 28-7 in the third quarter.Baltimore clinched it with a 12-play drive for a 35-10 lead with 11:34 remaining. Flacco went 5 for 5 for 56 yards on the possession, twice hitting Steve Smith.Afterward, someone asked the veteran receiver how he planned to mark the occasion.Watch a few highlights, eat a little apple pie, move on, he replied.Notes: Retired TE Todd Heap was inducted into the Ravens Ring of Honor at halftime. ... Carolina FB Richie Brockel left in the first quarter with an ankle injury. ... Baltimore DT Brandon Williams got his first career fumble recovery. ... Subban is going to be a long-term Montreal Canadien. The restricted free agent defenceman agreed to terms on an eight-year, $72 million contract with the team on Saturday, avoiding a salary arbitration ruling. Subbans average annual value is $9 million. "I think that it sends a strong message to me that they want me here and they appreciate everything Ive done to this point and they believe in me as a player," Subban said on a conference call Saturday evening. "I think Ive always believed that, but obviously in this process and coming out with this result, now everybody else understands it and can see it as well and doesnt have to speculate about how the Montreal Canadiens feel about me." The Canadiens and Subbans camp met for their arbitration hearing on Friday in Toronto. Both sides voiced their arguments to appointed arbitrator Elizabeth Neumeier in a four-hour session. According to reports, the Canadiens submitted their arbitration brief earlier this week with a salary of $5.25 million on a one-year contract, while Subban - represented by agent Don Meehan of Newport Sports - asked for $8.5 million on a one-year term. From the end of Fridays arbitration hearing, Neumeier was given 48 hours to reach her decision. The Canadiens and Subban had until a decision by Neumeier was announced to sign a new contract, otherwise the arbitration contract would have been binding and the two ssides could not negotiate a new deal until January 1. Carlos Dunlap Jersey. "We are very pleased to have reached a long term agreement with P.K. Subban," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said in a statement. "This agreement helps consolidate the future of our team. A key element of our group of young veterans, P.K. plays with a high level of intensity every time he steps onto the ice. Despite his young age, he carries a great deal of experience and brings contagious energy to the team. Defensemen of his level are a rare commodity in the NHL." Subban, who signed a two-year deal worth an average annual value of $2.875 million contract prior to the 2012-2013 season, scored 10 goals and added 43 assists in 82 games with the Canadiens in 2013-14. "I knew that even before the arbitration that something was going to get done," Subban said. "We were always working on a long-term deal. These types of deals dont get done overnight, they dont get done over a few days. It takes months sometimes to get these deals done. Im happy that its done now and everybodys happy about it." He also added five goals and 14 points in 17 playoff games and was part of the Canadian mens Olympic team that won gold in Sochi in February. Subban was awarded the 2013 Norris Trophy as the NHLs top defenceman after notching 11 goals and 27 assists in 42 games. VANCOUVER -- More than four years after the Olympic flame went out on the West Coast, the Vancouver Organizing Committee release

Posted in IYH Forums by jokergreen0220 at 08:12, Mar 11 2017

VANCOUVER -- More than four years after the Olympic flame went out on the West Coast, the Vancouver Organizing Committee released its final reports Thursday and turned out the lights. Trevor Siemian Authentic Jersey . VANOC said the Games broke even, with total revenues and expenses just shy of $1.9 billion. The group that organized the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics has no more assets or outstanding debts and has asked government to dissolve the company. "It was 11 years ago yesterday we took the stage in Prague and we made promises," CEO John Furlong said in an interview. "We made commitments in the name of the country, we made commitments to the IOC and we made commitments to the Canadian public that we would deliver the Games in the black and so we set out to do that." It was a challenging journey, he said, pointing out the global economic collapse in 2008. "I think that worried us," Furlong said. With the Sochi Games in the not-so-distant past and fresh concerns about the World Cup in Brazil, Furlong said there has been much discussion about the cost of such large events and the difficulties some countries have had. "I look at our situation and think we are a very good model of how to do these events. This is, to me, very good for the Canada brand of being reliable, being trustworthy, keeping your promises, being on time and on budget, being responsible about the things that really matter to the public," he said. At the end of the day, the final financial report said the federal government contributed $74.4 million, the British Columbia government $113.4 million and other governments $176 million. The International Olympic Committee kicked in $659 million in sponsorships and contributions to help cover the tab. Ticket sales raised $269 million, while licensing and merchandising accounted for another $54 million. An independent audit by Ernst and Young confirmed the results. The final financial statement said all sites have been remediated and turned over to the province and local governments as legacy venues and the organizing committee asked government to dissolve the company after its final meeting on June 27. The final report said several claims and disputed contracts have been resolved since the event, along with an 18-month coroners review of the Whistler Sliding Centre, where a Georgian luger was killed in a training accident. Critics point out that some of the most expensive infrastructure of the Games, including the Sea to Sky Highway, the Vancouver Convention Centre and a rapid transit line to the airport were not included in the final tally. The expansion of the Vancouver Convention Centre cost $883 million, $388 million over budget. The SkyTrains Canada Line linking Vancouver to the airport cost $2.1 billion. But Furlong said all the buildings and infrastructure are currently in use and board chairman Ken Dobell said the Games left a debt-free legacy for the country. "First of all, it cost what it was supposed to cost," Dobell said. Significant capital upgrades were made that had to happen sooner or later, and the host communities now have recreation and community facilities for residents. "Was it a worthwhile endeavour? The way Vancouver did it, for sure," he said. Paxton Lynch Womens Jersey . His Chicago Blackhawks teammates werent shocked when he found it. Goldeyes third baseman Ryan Pineda drove in three runs and the pitching staff didnt allow an earned run, as Winnipeg downed Kansas City 6-3 in American Association exhibition action at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas.Drew Willy may have been named the CFL Offensive Player of the Week following his clubs 45-21 victory over the Toronto Argonauts, but the quarterback got strong support from both his offensive line and another eye-opening surprise in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers offence. Nic Grigsby was superb in his CFL debut in Week 1, and the 25-year-old feels hes just getting started. "As the game went on my game started to come back," said Grigsby, who ran for 122 yards on 21 carries and added a pair of catches for 17. "It got a little slower. I still got a lot of stuff to get better on — just some little things and detail that coaches got on me about to be a better player and have a better game." The Bombers O-line opened up some wide lanes in the run game against the Argos. Winnipegs young tailback has history with one lineman in particular, who pulled from the right tackle spot to be the lead blocker on a couple big Grigsby gains up the middle. "Me and (Dan) Knapp, we went a long way (back)," said the University of Arizona product of his new favourite blocker. "We played against each other in college. He went to Arizona State, my rival, so when we got here in camp we bumped heads a little bit — not bumped heads — but just, you know, the rivalry-type stuff. But now were on the same team. Were in the same boat, and hes pulling for me and everything. I love them guys up front." The head coach isnt taken aback by Grigsbys impressive debut in the slightest. "Nope, didnt surprise me. Hes been steadily getting better all the way through camp," said Mike OShea. "My concern maybe early on was, he might not have taken advantage of every hole that was there, and now hes through it. It was just a matter of him getting comfortable with his vision, with his reads, and the CFL field — the size of it, I think. But hes done well." OShea is enamoured by Grigsbys ability to adapt and pick things up quickly. That goes double when youre protecting a lead late in the game. "One of the things thats impressive is, when were running that last three minutes and we have the ball and youre asking a guy to stay in bounds and slide, you know? For years and years and years American tailbacks come up here, they get in their first game and run out of bounds when we want that clock to run. You tell them and they still do it. But right away, I tell (Grigsby) once, he was sliding in bounds all the time making sure that clock kept running. Obviously hes an intelligent football player and took that instruction, basically in a three-second conversation, and applied it." With running back Will Ford still working to get back into game shape after a hamstring pull, and Paris Cotton out for a few weeks with a knee injury (hes been wearing a heavy brace in light on-ffield workouts during practice), Grigsbys fight to stay healthy enough to play has also impressed the coaching staff. Custom Denver Broncos Jerseys. "Its as good as its going to get right now," scoffed Grigsby playfully. "Everybody is banged-up and bruised. Nobodys at 100 per cent, I dont care who you are, (even) if youre a quarterback. Its day-to-day of getting better. Get your body in the cold tub, getting the therapy, and come ready to play. "You know youve got to be durable in this league. Its all about growing and depending on yourself to actually do the extra little things thats going to keep you on the field." This week sees another challenge, in that the Blue Bombers will try to prepare for their Week 2 opponent — the expansion Ottawa Redblacks — having minimal game film to study. Ottawa had a bye in Week 1. "Were going out there blind to the eye other than what the base preseason games are. And a lot of teams keep preseason really base," said Grigsby of the "vanilla" offence the Redblacks have shown. "Our coaching staff did a great job putting (video) cut-ups of the (Redblacks) coaches that they have now and what they did in the past, so were going to use that to our ability. Come game time there is that adjust-on-the-fly and be ready to go." NOTES: Eleven-year CFL veteran Korey Banks asked the team for his release this week after not securing a job in the teams starting lineup. The club has placed him on the suspended list indefinitely and flown him home to Atlanta... Mike OShea says he doesnt want to tinker too much with a lineup that looked pretty solid in Week 1. National cornerback Donovan Alexander may be ready to return following a calf injury, but Matt Bucknor will continue to start at field corner... Tailback Will Ford (hamstring) may be ready to go as well after missing both preseason games, but Nic Grigsby will start with the ball... Defensive backs Alex Suber (hamstring) and Marty Markett (high-ankle sprain) both still need time to recover and are again out this week... Slotback Cory Watson suffered a hamstring injury in the first half Thursday night and didnt return to the game. The 30-year-old will miss a week, at least, and it appears fellow national receiver Julian Feoli-Gudino, who hauled in a touchdown pass in Watsons second half absence, will start in his place... Defensive tackle Zach Anderson has missed some significant practice time this week with a heel contusion. OShea says he should be ready for the game... Another defensive tackle, Bryant Turner, has been excused from practice this week for the birth of his daughter. The 2013 Eastern All-Star is expected to play against Ottawa. If either Turner or Anderson are unable to go Thursday night, Kashawn Fraser is an option to come off the practice roster and dress. GLASGOW -- Michelle Li captured Canadas first ever womens singles gold medal in badminton at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday. Julio Jones Super Bowl Jersey . Then she lay down on the court, a smile of relief stretched across her face. "I think it was just everything kind of collapsed, all the tension and everything, trying to keep focused the whole week, and finally finished the very last (match) of the tournament, and I could finally relax and I could celebrate," Li said. "It was just all so overwhelming, and I think it was just incredible. So I had to lie down." The 22-year-old from Markham, Ont., dispatched Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland in just 38 minutes, winning in straight sets 21-14, 21-7 on the final day of the Games. Canada hasnt won badminton gold at the Games since Claire Backhouse and Johanne Falardeau took the womens doubles title in 1982. No Canadian had ever won a womens singles title. "I set a goal for myself to definitely try to medal," Li said. "I knew there were a lot of tough opponents, and I knew it was not going to be easy, so I made myself focus on each match individually, one at a time, so I never really thought I have to get the gold medal. I tried to stay away from that pressure, so I just had to focus on my game." Li and Alex Bruce narrowly missed a womens doubles bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics after qualifying for the semifinals. Li, ranked No. 19 in the world, said her gold-medal performance on Sunday topped even that result. "The Olympics was for doubles, so it was a totally different event, and Ive never had the same results for singles, and this actually means a lot because I can do it in singles," she said. "Its nice to have been in the Olympic semifinals for doubles, but I think now Im focused on singles more, Im really happy I got a gold at Commonwealth. "Its definitely a huge stepping stone." Li, who was born in Hong Kong, won two gold medals at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. She said this victory sets her up nicely for the world championships in two weeks in Copenhagen. "The competition definitely will be just as intense, and maybe even more intense," Li said. "Every round is going to be tough and I just hope I can go through every round like how I went through them here." Keanu Neal Super Bowl Jersey . TORONTO - According to Masai Ujiris wish list, the Toronto Raptors draft picks will be tough, eager to play defence, able to blend in well with coach Dwane Caseys playing style, and one of them will be a shot blocker. Randy White Womens Jersey . The Raptors general manager has his list of possible draft selections whittled down to a handful ahead of Thursday nights NBA draft in Brooklyn, New York. The Raptors, who have auditioned dozens of players over the past couple of weeks, have the 20th overall pick in the first round, as well as the 37th and 58th picks in the second. "I think probably by (Tuesday), it will be narrowed down to probably five guys (for the No. 20 spot), and that doesnt include guys that could fall," Ujiri said. "And about 600 at 37," he added laughing. Ujiri said part of his pre-draft research is figuring out players who are capable of giving Casey what he wants. "Were an aggressive team, were going to play tough, play hard on the defensive end and stop people, and we are going to play up-tempo on the offensive end," Ujiri said. "We have to bring in those kinds of players, we cant just draft anybody to come here and throw to Dwane Casey, that wouldnt be fair." He and his staff will go for the best player on the board rather than draft specifically for position, although he said hed be happy if a shot blocker happened to be available at one of their three picks. Ujiri, who was still with the Denver Nuggets during last years draft, hasnt entirely ruled out moving up to a higher pick. "(But) I dont do heartbreaks very well," he said. "Those trades and talks, people dont understand, we talk about a hundred trades and maybe two happen. Thats just the nature of our business. "Well be aggressive, but our energy is focused on 20 rather than wasting our time on whats not. If theres anything, I always feel like those kinds of things almost come to you rather than you chase them. If we smell anything anywhere, well be aggressive, but 20 is what were counting on." Toronto didnt have a pick in last years draft. They selected Terrence Ross with their No. 8 pick in 2012. They selected Kareem Rush at No. 20 in 2002 and traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers. The previous year, they took Morris Peterson at No. 21. Ujiri said its been a gruelling few weeks of pouring over the specifics of this years draft class. "We do a lot of mechanics, pictures, analytics, background checks, psych tests and all that stuff. When they come for workouts, there are so many things you look at, foot speed, how tall they are, their demeanours, so many things," he said. "Its a huge process for us and just builds and builds and builds. "Now hopefully by Wednesday morning we will have gathered all the information we have. And then mess it up with a trade or something," he added, laughing. The difficult part is judging a players potential — "we have to figure out where the player is now and what he will be in a couple of years from now or four years from now." Point guard Kyle Lowry led the Raptors to their first post-season appearance in six seasons, where they were eliminated by the Brooklyn Nets in the first round. Lowry becomes a free agent on July 1, but Ujiri said his status wont be a factor in how the Raptors select in the draft. "We are going full force after Kyle Lowry, and if theres a talented point guard in the draft. . . well go for talent in the draft. But Kyle Lowry is our target," he said. Several Canadians have been among the players whove worked out for the Raptors at the Air Canada Centre, including point guard Tyler Ennis, forwards Melvin Ejim and Khem Birch and seven-foot-two centre Jordan Bachynski. There could be as many as five to eight Canadians taken in the draft, led by Andrew Wiggins, the Vaughan, Ont., star whos expected to go No. 1 or 2. Ujiri pointed out that plenty can happen between now and Thursday night. Three days before the NBA draft, there have already been a couple of surprises. Highly-touted prospect Joel Embiid had surgery last week on the stress fracture on his foot. Draft prospect Isaiah Austin has been diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, a career-ending condition. "I walked into (the office) today and was like Please, no news thats going to throw me off right now. Because it will keep coming, there will be something tonight, tomorrow morning, there will be something, thats just the nature of the draft," Ujiri said. "You love it, thats why we do it, theres always action." The loss was painful on so many levels and seemed to put a definitive nail in the coffin when it came to the Senators playoff chances. And while its easy to point to that loss as the one that killed the teams post-season hopes, it was merely the final straw in a season-long string of disappointments. That collapse against Montreal was spectacular and historic (for the wrong reasons), but it wasnt an anomaly when it comes to the 2013-14 Ottawa Senators. On too many occasions this season, this team squandered opportunities to get two points – either settling for one or being blanked altogether. Here is a look at the 10 games that will likely cost the Senators a playoff spot this season: 1) October 5th – 5-4 shootout loss at TOR Just 24 hours after shutting out the Buffalo Sabres in the season opener, the Senators jumped out to a 4-2 lead against the Maple Leafs midway through the second period. But with time running out in that frame, Joffrey Lupul scored a goal to pull the Leafs to within one goal heading into the third period. And in what would become an eerie preview of what to expect defensively throughout the season, the Senators would allow the Leafs to tie the game – and then win it in a shootout. 2) November 1st – 5-4 shootout loss vs NYI The Senators managed to blow a two-goal lead twice in this game, squandering 2-0 and 4-2 advantages. And knowing what we know about the 2013-14 New York Islanders now, this loss looks even more ridiculous in hindsight. Adding to the lunacy of this night was the fact the Senators surrendered 57 shots on goal to New York. Thats not a typo. 3) December 10th – 2-1 shootout loss at BUF Granted, the Senators played the night before and beat the Philadelphia Flyers in a spirited shootout on home ice. But the Sens looked pretty average against the NHLs worst team the very next night and managed to score only a single goal. The offensive malaise even extended into the shootout, which required 10 rounds before the Sabres eventually won it. 4) December 19th – 4-2 loss vs FLA This was another costly loss to an Eastern Conference lightweight – only it was more damaging because it occurred in regulation time. The Senators led this game 2-1 after the first period and should have been sparked by a brilliant highlight reel goal from Jason Spezza. Instead, the Panthers scored twice in the final 2:32 of the game to stun the Sens with a 4-2 victory. Ottawa was on the power play with a chance to tie the game in the final 90 seconds, but allowed a 2-on-1 the other way and Tomas Kopecky buried them with a shorthanded goal. 55) December 21st – 4-3 overtime loss vs PHX Former Senator Antoine Vermette killed the Senators in this matinee game, as he scored a hat trick – which was capped off with the overtime winner. Dallas Cowboys Jerseys. The Senators actually held a 2-0 lead in this game and also had a 3-2 advantage with under three minutes to play in the third period. This game may have been the best microcosm for the Sens penchant for sloppiness in afternoon games. 6) January 8th – 4-3 overtime loss at COL Once again, the Senators were less than three minutes away from a regulation time victory, only to have disaster strike. Paul Stastny scored the tying goal with just over two minutes left and then Tyson Barrie scored the overtime winner 33 seconds into the extra frame. The Sens allowed two goals in the span of about three minutes with the game on the line. Instead of skating out of Denver with two points, they had to settle for just one. 7) January 16th – 5-4 overtime loss vs MTL You can actually make a sound argument that the Senators were fortunate to take one point out of this game, considering the Habs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. But Ottawa fought back with four straight goals and appeared to be in complete command of this game – until Jared Cowen accidentally put the puck into his own net after Craig Anderson stopped Tomas Plekanec on a breakaway. PK Subban then scored just 23 seconds into overtime, with a celebration that seemed to irk the Sens. Sadly, this was not the most painful 5-4 overtime loss they would endure against the Habs this season. February 1st – 6-3 loss at TOR In a case of déjà vu, the Senators once again found themselves with a two-goal lead at the Air Canada Centre – only to watch it evaporate quickly. The Senators had a 2-0 lead, but Toronto tied the game in the second period, thanks in large part to a controversial play. Nazem Kadri drilled Sens defenseman Cody Ceci behind the net with a hit that many felt was illegal, but play went right on and Kadri took the puck and set up Joffrey Lupul for the tying goal. The Sens never seemed to recover from that turn of events and the Leafs scored four times in the third period to beat Ottawa. 9) March 4th – 3-2 loss at EDM Like every other game on this list, the Senators held the lead – jumping out 1-0 early thanks to a Jason Spezza goal. Fresh off a win at the Heritage Classic in Vancouver two days earlier, the Senators should have had some momentum for this game against the lowly Oilers. Instead – in what turned out to be a damn good audition before the trade deadline – Ales Hemsky scored twice to pace the Oilers to a 3-2 victory. 10) March 15th – 5-4 overtime loss at MTL Its still a little too soon to talk about this game.
