PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers running back LeVeon Bell is ready to serve his suspension and move on.Bell spoke on Saturday, one day after the NFL suspended the Pittsburgh Steelers running back for the first three games of the regular season for missing multiple drug tests, which is a violation of the leagues substance abuse policy.I already apologized to my teammates, my coaches and Steeler Nation, Bell said. Im sincerely sorry about everything I put everybody through. Its been frustrating and I own up to everything. Its all my fault and I cant blame nobody else for that.Bell stood by a now-deleted post to his Instagram account he put up on Friday, offering an apology shortly after the suspension was announced. He initially faced a four-game suspension, but it was reduced to three games following an appeal to the league.Bell will be eligible to return to the active roster Sept. 26 before the teams Week 4 home game against Kansas City.Im glad they shaved a little bit of time off, Bell said. The sooner I can get on the field, the better.This is the second time Bell has faced discipline from the league. He sat out the first two games of the 2015 season as punishment for his arrest in August 2014 on DUI and marijuana possession charges following a traffic stop. Bell was originally suspended three games before it was reduced on appeal.It (stinks) to keep having to miss time, Bell said. I want to play football and be out there with my teammates. I accept the suspension. I just have to learn from this and move on.Bell feels the experience will help him moving forward.I think this is going to help me be a better person, a better player, and obviously smarter, Bell said. MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins have named Thad Levine as general manager under new chief baseball officer Derek Falvey in their attempt to rebound from a club-worst 59-103 record.Levine was the assistant general manager of the Texas Rangers for the last 11 seasons. The 44-year-old previously worked for the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers and played baseball at Haverford College in Pennsylvania.The Twins waited until the conclusion of the World Series to make the announcement about Levine on Thursday, after the Chicago Cubs beat Cleveland in seven games. Falvey was named to succeed Terry Ryan in charge of the baseball operations on Oct. 3, the day after the regular season ended. IN A LOW-SLUNG building in Oklahoma Citys Bricktown neighborhood, just a day before the injury-riddled Mavericks began their playoff series against a Thunder team that would dismiss them in five games, a surreal scene unfolded at the Dollhouse Lounge, a burlesque-themed nightclub. (The clubs Facebook page: Win or lose, we still booze.) Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was hanging out with a group that included two of his injured players -- Chandler Parsons and David Lee -- as well as comedian Amy Schumer and her entourage. Schumer had headlined at Chesapeake Energy Arena that night, and knew Lee from his time in New York. She would later share a photo of the Mavs headliners, her friend and opening act Rachel Feinstein and herself, captioning it Pals on Instagram.All in the name of good fun, Cuban and Parsons kidded each other for much of the night, with nothing off limits. Not even the most delicate of all topics: Parsons next contract. You might have thought that Parsons, who planned to opt out of the final season of his contract, would have cause for concern after undergoing a second right knee surgery in two years. However, he was certain that hed command max offers if he tested a historically player-friendly market.A young man with much at stake, out with his boss, might tread carefully. But to expect that is to misunderstand entirely the nature of Parsons and the nature of Cuban, simultaneously among the NBAs closest owner/player pairings, and least restrained.As the booze flowed, Cuban made joking low-ball offers, Parsons chuckled at them, and they eventually moved on. When it was almost time to make the short trip back to the Skirvin Hotel, Cuban was settling up the tab and posing for pictures with some of the wait staff, while the taxi the clubs management had called for the owner idled in the alley out back.Spotting the cab as he left with friends, Parsons saw an opportunity to get the last laugh. He hopped in with his boys, slipped the driver a $100 bill and told him to take off.The timing worked to perfection. Just as the cab started rolling, Cuban walked out. Parsons rolled down the window and stuck out his head.Max or nothing, m-----f-----! Parsons hollered at Cuban, cracking up his crew.Just one last joke in a night full of them.This is the behind-the-scenes tale of the NBAs biggest bromance gone wrong.AS BIZARRE AS that scene might seem, it was business (and pleasure) as usual for the Cuban-Parsons bromance, as unique an owner-player relationship as any since Jerry Buss and Magic Johnson.Cuban has never shied away from developing friendships with players, dating back to putting up Dennis Rodman in his guest house weeks after Cuban bought the Mavs. Although Cuban has gone clubbing with dozens of players in the nearly two decades since, both Cuban and Parsons say their friendship was different. They were two peas in a pod, perhaps the leagues most personable player clicking with certainly the leagues most outgoing owner.Were boys. Were friends, Parsons tells ESPN. Yeah, he was the owner of the team, but I didnt look at him any differently [than other friends]. We did stuff. We enjoyed similar activities off the court. We were friends hanging out.Parsons had joined the Mavericks by signing his three-year, $46 million offer sheet within feet of bass-booming speakers at a club called Attic in his hometown of Orlando, Florida. That moment went viral after Parsons college buddy Dan Morgan (aka @DMoSwag) tweeted a selfie of himself with Cuban and Parsons cheesing after the ink was dry on the deal.That set the tone for the relationship to come: business and pleasure, with too many late nights to count. Cuban and Parsons would go out together occasionally during the NBA season, when it didnt conflict with the job that Cuban was paying Parsons a lot of money to do, and often during the offseason, when they hit clubs in Dallas, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.All the while, they talked shop: The business of running the Mavericks. It wasnt long before Parsons grew to enjoy the rarest of indulgences, normally reserved for long-term superstars: Parsons became a go-to resource on personnel matters, proposing one move after another, some of which became reality.At one point, Parsons pitched his boss on something bold: Say farewell to high-scoring free agent Monta Ellis, who clashed with Parsons and wore out his welcome with many in the Mavs organization; go all in on recruiting Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, whom Parsons believed could blossom to become the NBAs best big man and would be a perfect fit to play with him.Parsons had a lot of reasons to think they could get Jordan. He had known him for a decade, after meeting on the summer camp circuit as teenagers -- and he knew Jordan did not feel at home with the Clippers and was open to moving. It also didnt hurt that Jordan and Parsons both had the same agent, Dan Fegan, at that time.The Mavs would then need only a 3-and-D shooting guard -- they later signed Wesley Matthews -- and theyd be off and running with a core of Jordan, Parsons and Nowitzki.Cuban rubber-stamped the plan, as Parsons spearheaded one of the highest-profile recruiting efforts in recent NBA history, rarely leaving Jordans side in the weeks leading up to free agency, wining and dining the big man in his hometown of Houston and in L.A.Parsons joined Cuban on the owners private jet for a pair of flights to L.A., where Cuban filmed Shark Tank episodes in the week leading up to free agency. One night Cuban and several acquaintances from the show went to the Hollywood club Bootsy Bellows. NBA rules prohibit team officials like Cuban from hanging out with other teams prospective free agents while theyre under contract. But there are no such constraints on players. Parsons just happened to be entertaining Jordan and Matthews in the same place at the same time. Cuban coyly waved from across the club, while Parsons laid the groundwork for the Mavs free agency plans.When free agency arrived in earnest, Cuban was freed from NBA tampering rules. Parsons organized an all-you-can-eat sushi feast at Nobu Malibu in the opening hour of free agency. Cuban attended, as did Nowitzki, who flew in from New York for the occasion. It was an appetizer to the Mavs official pitch the next morning, one of many free agency meetings for Jordan.A few days later, Cuban and Parsons returned to L.A. on Cubans private jet. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision by Cuban, who wanted to make sure the Mavs got the last word after Jordan wrapped up his official meetings. The surprise visit to the centers house seemed to work: Cuban secured a verbal commitment from Jordan.Patron shots were poured and downed as Cuban, Parsons, Jordan and the big mans family celebrated that morning. Cuban and Parsons kept the party going the rest of the day and night. They headed to Manhattan Beach, where Cuban owns a home, and had a liquid lunch at Shellback Tavern, a favorite Cuban watering hole. Joined by a horde of friends and business acquaintances, they eventually stumbled across Manhattan Beach Boulevard to Strand House.Parsons, get out of the street! a tipsy Cuban hollered during a call-in appearance on Dallas radio station 1310 The Ticket, one of a few interviews that day that led to the league office fining Cuban for violating terms of the NBAs moratorium period.Of course, the recruiting was doomed. After convincing the Mavs hed join them, Jordan infamously went quiet. For a few days the Mavericks and Cuban couldnt reach Jordan at all. By the time he was allowed to sign his deal, Jordan announced he had changed his mind and would return to the Clippers.Jordans reversal was a setback for the franchise, but Parsons remained steadfast in his plan to play the rest of his career for his buddy/boss Cuban. And the two openly discussed the idea that Parsons would eventually take an official role in the Mavs front office.NBA OWNERS AND their players usually arent as close as Parsons and Cuban had grown. The reality is that players usually dont keep their jobs that long. A few years is a lifetime in this business -- and Nowitzki is really the only player who has had unconditional loyalty from Cuban. Last season, things were due to get awkward, as one of the Mavericks next huge decisions was the contract of Parsons himself.Things took a dreadful turn when Parsons tore the meniscus in his right knee -- the same one that had already endured microfracture surgery. And on the night Parsons learned he needed another surgery, Cuban took a distraught Parsons to dinner at Nick and Sams, a steakhouse and Parsons favorite restaurant in Dallas. Mavs coach Rick Carlisle and his daughter Abby, who adores Parsons, joined them for a while. After the meal, Parsons and Cuban drowned their sorrows at So and Sos, an uptown Dallas club that Parsons frequented.Groggy as he might have been the next morning, Parsons woke up feeling assured that he had a long, bright future in Dallas. As much as it hurt to see my season cut short, Parsons says, I knew it wasnt career-ending and I knew financially I was going to be taken care of by Mark.Parsons spent much of the spring rehabbing, and house-hunting in Dallas. He fell in love with a $7.95 million north Dallas palace, across the street from Cowboys quarterback Tony Romos under-construction mansion, and intended to buy the house as soon as the ink was dry on his new deal in July.Throughout the whole process going into free agency, I always thought Dallas was going to be the place, Parsons says. I thought we had a mutual understanding that I was going to be there for the whole time and I was going to retire a Mav. Obviously, the second surgery gave him a little doubt, and I believe some people got in his head about it.For weeks after the regular season ended, Cuban consistently told Parsons that theyd get a long-term deal done, according to Parsons. Asked about that by ESPN, Cuban simply shakes his head, evidently disputing the account.At one point in April, Cuban hired Parsons childhood best friend and personal manager, Pausha Haghighi, to assist him in matters related to the teams under-construction practice facility. Cuban consulted Parsons on details of the project for weeks after the season ended.They continued their constant discussions about potential personnel moves. They talked about whether high-flying big man Hassan Whiteside was worth chasing a year after the pair had been rejected by Jordan. Parsons pushed for Harrison Barnes, seeing them as an interchangeable pair of forwards, with Nowitzki moving primarily to center, an experiment the Mavs tinkered with for a few games before Parsons season ended prematurely.BEHIND THE SCENES, Cuban faced a tough choice. Thanks to new TV revenues, the NBAs salary cap was set to explode. Parsons would, in all likelihood, command max offers. Did it make sense for the Mavericks to commit that much? Despite his max-or-nothing dig that night in Bricktown -- and his agent Fegans assurance that hed get multiple max offers -- Parsons told ESPN he would have accepted a four-year deal for a lot less than the max of $98 million the Mavs could have given him. He says Cuban was well aware of this heading into free agency, but even a hometown discount for Parsons would have been a huge contract.At least two teams were willing to take the risk of giving Parsons a max deal despite the medical concerns, attracted to the 6-foot-10 forwards rare blend of size, shooting touch and playmaking skill. They were willing to bet that Parsons would return to the form of his final two months in a Mavs uniform, when he averaged 18.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the field and 47.7 percent from 3-point range.According to Parsons, the Mavs owner told him after the season ended that he had productive talks with Fegan and the sides should be able to agree on the parameters of a four-year deal as soon as NBA rules permitted. Asked about this, Cuban again shakes his head.Cubans unofficial advisory council -- which includes president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson, Carlisle, head athletic trainer Casey Smith and Nowitzki -- shared a consensus concern about a long-term commitment to Parsons. As free agency approached, team sources say they were unanimous that itd be a poor business decision to commit a major share of the Mavs salary cap to Parsons for the next four years because of his knee problems.Two team sources also cited locker room concerns with Parsons, although those were labeled as forgivable, fixable things. The primary concern: The fact that Parsons was so close with Cuban and wielded so much power in personnel matters.The main reason why I went to Dallas was because I had an owner that was my boy and who believed in me, Parsons says. Thats an awesome combination to have. As my years went on there, I think there was a huge jealousy factor of how cool I was with him, how I had some power and input in decisions that they make. I think that hurt some peoples feelings. I think that made them jealous.Looking from the outside looking in, I could see how that could rub people the wrong way. My relationship with him -- like, we were so cool, we were so close, I had his ear on a lot of decisions -- I think that ended up biting me in the ass at the end.IN EARLY JUNE, Parsons was at Bungalow, a club in Santa Monica, with Jordan -- the player who had crushed Cuban by spurning the Mavs. Parsons put his arm around Jordan, snapped a photo, and posted it to Instagram with the hashtag #nohardfeelings. He admits he had no thought about how that would be received in Dallas. Yeah, it definitely pissed Cuban off, Parsons says. Its his money and his team. Obviously, he didnt find it too funny, but I wasnt trying to get a laugh out of him or throwing shade at Dallas. It was such a story and such an ordeal with us that I was just kind of publicly burying the hatchet.That was one stumble. Another soon followed, as things fell apart between Cuban and Parsons friend who worked for him, Haghighi. They mutually agreed to part ways days after the Instagram picture -- though the timing could have been coincidental.Cuban then shifted tactics and pushed hard for Parsons to opt in for the final season of his contract, which would have paid about $6 million shy of what hed make as a max free agent. Parsons says Cuban told him they could discuss a long-term commitment the following summer -- when the cap would be even higher and Parsons would be eligible for a five-year deal -- if Parsons proved he could stay healthy for a whole season.In the postmortem, Cuban contends a long-term deal for Parsons was never in the offseason plans due to medical concerns. Once we knew about the knee injury, our goal was to get him to opt in, Cuban told ESPN, referring to the $16 million player option for this season that Parsons declined.It was a pitch that Parsons considered pretty ludicrous, even borderline disrespectful. He never remotely considered it.Obviously that sounds nice, but why risk it? My concern is the same as them. Youre worried about paying my knee, Parsons says. You dont want to pay me long term. These other really, really good teams do. If its too much of a risk for them to pay me for four years, its way too much of a risk for me to turn down guaranteed $94 million right now. It would make no sense, and no fan, no human, no one in the right mind would not do what I did.Before long, Parsons calls and texts began to go unreturned. When Parsons did get a hold of his buddy/boss, he says Cuban often came across as vague and elusive, as did Nowitzki.Cuban says he simply wanted all communication to go through Fegan at that point due to the business nature of the discussions.A sure sign that Parsons was out of the inner circle came when the Mavs hired Larry Shyatt as an assistant coach. He had been one of Parsons coaches at Florida. Its not that Parsons wasnt pleased with the hire, he was just shocked to learn about it via the media.That was the weirdest part to me, Parsons says. How DeAndre was kind of starting to get shady and ignore Marks calls, thats kind of like what Mark started doing to me. So it was like, Damn, you know what? I get it. Were going through negotiations. I know free agency can be tough sometimes, but at the end of the day, youre my friend.I was being avoided. I was being pushed out. I was being ignored. So awkward.Free agency arrived at midnight, Eastern time, July 1. The Mavs braintrust wooed Whiteside in the opening hours, while Parsons met with the Trail Blazers in Los Angeles. Mitch Emery thought his Olympic dream was over after collapsing and injuring himself just days before team announcements, so the phone call to tell him that he had made Australias water polo squad for Rio de Janeiro was particularly overwhelming.A fringe player in the squad, Emerys position for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio was never set in stone, and he was far from confident hed make the plane after injuring his shoulder just days before team selection at the World League - Super Final.A mixture of exhaustion, stress and sickness culminated in Emery collapsing in a lift at the six-day World League tournament, and injuring his shoulder with bone bruising and swelling. He was forced to sit out the rest of the competition.I didnt get to play the last three days, Emery told ESPN. To be honest I didnt think I was going to make the team. I just felt those last three days were so important and when I couldnt play all these thoughts were just running through my head; there were sleepless nights. But now thinking back, I played really well in the lead up before that tournament. Just at that time I thought this is going to be 50/50 and then the more you think about it the more you doubt yourself, I guess.Emery was really annoyed with myself and was pretty frustrated as he thought he needed to play in the final days of the tournament to make the final 13 for Rio.I am the kind of person who can be a bit negative to prepare myself for the worst, and those six days that followed were the worst -- the sleepless nights, watching the people you were competing with playing well, and then I had to wait for that phone call.Prepared for the worst, Emery had already reasoned it wasnt his playing ability that had let him down.I just thought, if I dont make this team its not because I havent played well, its because the coaches didnt want to take someone who is sort of injured and wouldnt be able to train for the first four days, instead of taking someone who is 100 percent and can go straight away.But on Wednesday June 29, the 25-year-old received the phone call to change his life. He was going to the Olympics.It was pretty overwhelming. [Australia coach Elvis Fatovic] told us the day before, on Tuesday, that he was going to call - but he didnt. Then on Wednesday, right on midday, he called.It was a bit awkward, I just asked him hey, how has your day been? and he said not very good. Instantly I thought thats not good news for me. But then he just said, Youre going. I wanted to hang up quickly so he couldnt change his mind. I was just over the moon with it all.He explained why Id been chosen and also went through how things can change through injury. He also told me who didnt make the team.All up it was probably only a four-minute conversation.Prepared for either good or bad news, Emerys mother had taken the day off to support him.We knew it was going to be a yes or no, Emery said.As soon as I got the call I ran outside so she couldnt see me and then I came in, she asked me if I was going or not and I told her I was going. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Richard Lagow waited four long years to start a Football Bowl Subdivision game.Hes about to get his chance.Indiana coach Kevin Wilson announced Friday that the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Texan beat out Zander Diamont and will line up behind center in Thursday nights season-opener at Florida International.Hes really playing the best, Wilson said. The other guys are playing better, and Zander gives you kind of a change-up out there. But the guy were going with is playing really, really good.For Lagow, the decision cemented the notion that he could excel at a power-five school -- even if it the journey there took longer than expected.The big quarterback with the big arm left his home state of Texas in 2013 to play for Connecticut. He was 71.He died at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, said Stars on Ice. At the time, Ashleighs main focus was simply on making the team, not history. She was just going out there to do her thing and trying to achieve her dream. She never thought of herself as different.In reality, Ashleigh did stand out. First off, all of the women on our national team are from California and competed in college there as well. Ashleigh is from Florida and goes to Princeton. Moreover, she is the best goalie in the world, and considerably the best player in the world.I can tell you from experience that finding an opening to score on Ashleigh is difficult because, unlike most goalies, she plays with an attacking mentality. Most goalies have a defensive mentality whereas Ashleigh attacks the ball. Shell leave her cage to anticipate the steal and often dares opponents to shoot against her. When a shot flies past me, Im already swimming to offense because I know Ashleigh will block it.Ashleigh is changing the way water polo is being played. Of course, shes changing the game in other ways, too. She is the first African-American woman ever to play on the U.S. womens water polo team, and was instrumental in winning the second straight gold medal for our program at the Olympics this past summer in Rio.ddddddddddddn the last couple of years, Ashleigh has recognized a door was opened for her to be a role model, and she hasnt shied away from walking through it.I remember a team meeting during our training for the Olympics in which we talked about female empowerment. Ashleigh spoke about the impact she could have on others, both in and out of our sport. She said that growing up she never had anyone like herself to look up to in water polo, and now she could be that person for other young African-American girls. She could show what was possible.Ashleigh is simply a pleasure to be around. Whether shes at a function getting an award or around little kids, her kindness and poise make people feel comfortable when theyre around her. She has an incredible light that she emits, and her smile lights up the whole room.When I face Ashleigh in practice, I am brought back to the first time we played against one another as little girls back in Florida. I want to get a shot past her, I want to beat her, but she never, ever, makes it easy. I am lucky to have someone who brought out the best of me then, and continues to bring out the best in me today. A number of factors beyond capacity and attendance could affect a venues place in the order. Where does your school fall??SEC is football country, except on one campus: Kentucky. The crazy thing is that, based on conversations with several coaches about the SEC venue rankings, some feel that Lexingtons Rupp Arena is not the toughest place in the league to play.After attending plenty of games there, along with other SEC venues, Im not buying it. Rupp ranks No. 1, but you might be surprised by which arena is the runner-up.14. Mississippi State Bulldogs: Humphrey Coliseum, opened in 1975 It used to be extremely difficult to play -- much less win -- at The Hump, but that hasnt been the case the past four or five years. Last season, Ben Howlands first as the head coach, an average of just 6,555 fans showed up in an arena that can seat 10,575. The building is old and hasnt had much juice in it lately.Fun fact: The arena is named after George Duke Humphrey, Mississippi States president from 1934 to 1945.13. Georgia Bulldogs: Stegeman Coliseum, opened in 1964 Eighth-year coach Mark Fox has won more games in league play the past few seasons than anyone not named John Calipari, but its still difficult to get the fans out for hoops in Athens. The Bulldogs averaged 7,345 fans a year ago in a building that can hold 10,523. The roof was built first, then the arena was constructed underneath the ceiling.12. Missouri Tigers: Mizzou Arena, opened in 2004 There was a time when the building was extremely difficult to steal a victory from, but that hasnt been the case lately. The Tigers averaged a paltry 6,294 fans last season, though the place can seat more than 15,000.Fun fact: A third of the $75 million cost to build the arena was given by Wal-Mart heir Nancy Walton Laurie and her husband, Bill Laurie, and the building was set to be named after their daughter, until it was discovered that she cheated her way through college.11. Alabama Crimson Tide: Coleman Coliseum, opened in 1968Alabama is still a football school, obviously, but second-year coach Avery Johnson has given the Tide hope. He moved the students closer to the floor, which has helped. The fans are scarce in November and December, but they come after football season ends. Its a large building, holding 15,383, and Johnson found a way to average 13,110 last season in a year the Tide missed the NCAA tournament.Fun fact: LSUs Pete Maravich scored 69 points in a 106-104 loss to Alabama at Coleman on Feb. 7, 1970. At the time, it was the most points scored by a single player against a Division I opponent.10. Auburn Tigers: Auburn Arena, opened in 2010 Bruce Pearl has The Jungle moving up the list slowly but surely. He has infused energy into the program and building. Now all thats missing are more victories. The arena was consistently averaging in the 6,000 range from 2010 to 2013, but it averaged more than 8,200 last season.Fun fact: The highest seat in the arena is just 43 feet away from the court.9. Ole Miss Rebels: Pavilion at Ole Miss, opened in 2016 The C.M. Tad Smith Coliseum was arguably the worst facility in the league, but now coach Andy Kennedy and the Rebels have one of the nicest in the brand new Coliseum, which opened in January. It cost $96.5 million, holds 9,500 and will certainly help the Rebels move up this list -- as long as they win. Ole Miss had a school-record seven sellouts in its first nine home games in the building.Fun fact: The Pavilion has the largest center-hung video board in college sports, with nearly 2,400 square feet of LED lighting.8. LSU Tigers: Pete Maravich Assembly Center, opened in 1971 The building was renamed in honor of the former LSU star after his death in 1988. Last season, the attendance figures shot up from 8,897 to 11,382, largely due to the presence of Ben Simmons. Its difficult to get fans into the building because football reigns supreme.Fun fact: Maravich never played in the arena as an LSU Tiger but did as a member of the Atlanta Hawks in a preseason game.7. South Carolina Gamecocks: Colonial Life Arena, opened in 2002Its a big building, and sometimes that hurts its appearance. Coach Frank Martin has started to make it a difficult place for opponents to win, and the Gamecocks averaged 11,995 fans last season in a venue that can hold almost 18,000.Fun fact: The biggest win in the building might have come on Jan. 26, 2010, when the Gamecocks pulled an upset over an undefeated and top-ranked Kentucky team that featured John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.6. Texas A&M Aggies: Reed Arena, opened in 1998 It is located on campus and holds just shy of 13,000 fans. This is a football school first, but coach Billy Kennedy did a nice job making Reed a legit home-court advantage last season, as the Aggies averaged 8,955 fans per home game. Its a large venue, so when its packed, its tough for opponents to win.Fun fact: The arena was named after Houston veterinarian Dr. Chester Reed, who graduated in 1947. Reed donated 265 acres of land to the school.5. Tennessee Volunteers: Thompson-Boling Arena, opened in 1987 This place was rocking back when Bruce Pearl was roaming the sideline, but it hasnt been the same the past four or five years. The building is huge, but the capacity actually decreased from more than 24,000 to 21,678 when it was renovated in 2008.Fun fact: The court was named The Summit after late Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt.4. Arkansas Razorbacks: Bud Walton Arena, opened in 1993 The Razorbacks have a tremendous fan base and were 12th in the country in attendance last season, despite having a mediocre team. Arkansas has won 81 percent of its games in Bud Walton since it opened, and part of that success can be attributed to the fast-paced style implemented by former coach Nolan Richardson and continued by current coach Mike Anderson. Youll be hard-pressed to find a team that has been more different at home and on the road than Arkansas in recent years.Fun fact: Bud Walton is the co-founder of Wal-Mart. He paid half of the $30 million it took to build the arena.3. Vanderbilt Commodores: Memorial Gymnasium, opened in 1952This is one of the oldest and most unique gyms in the country. The benches are on the baseline, which makes it difficult for the visiting coach and players. The court sits elevated above much of the crowd.Fun fact: Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at Memorial Gym in 1967.2. Florida Gators: Stephen C. OConnell Center, opened in 1980 When former coach Billy Donovan had the Gators rolling, this place was really difficult for opposing teams. The fans are close to the court, and when they pack the O-Dome, it can really get loud. The only issue is the fans often dont show for games in November and December. The arena is currently undergoing a much-needed renovation, which is expected to be completed this year.Fun fact: Last year, the OConnell Center brought in its five-millionth fan. The number to date is 5,065,770.1. Kentucky Wildcats: Rupp Arena, opened in 1976 The downtown arena holds around 23,5000, and there is rarely a time when Rupp isnt at capacity these days. The Cats have led the nation in attendance 25 times (last season included), and Kentucky has won nearly 90 percent of its games in the building. Its a brutal place to play, especially these days, because of the rabid fan base and the talent in the program. Rupp isnt at the level of Cameron Indoor Stadium or Allen Fieldhouse, but you can make a case for it being among the five most difficult places to play in the country.Fun fact

If Fernandez acts as though hes trying to enjoy every moment, he is. "I keep saying, Im here, and I want to have fun," he said. While fun has been in short supply for the Marlins, Fernandez is making their season more bearable. The precocious right-hander is 4-3, remarkable considering the rest of the pitching staff began the week a combined 17-44. Heading into Wednesdays start at Arizona, Fernandez ranks among the top three rookies in the majors in ERA (3.11) , strikeouts per inning (77 in 72 1-3) and opposing batting average (.210). Such statistics are all the more impressive because he doesnt turn 21 until July 31. Fernandez became the first pitcher under 21 to allow less than two runs and less than four hits in each of his first two career starts since 1965. And in his most recent outing, Fernandez became the first pitcher under 21 to strike out 10 or more since Felix Hernandez with Seattle in 2007. "Hes similar to Felix when he was younger," two-time Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay said. "He has that presence and that kind of stuff. If he continues to develop, he could be one of those guys." "Its great to be humble," he said, sounding like a country song. "People will love you more in the long run. I dont want to be just a good pitcher. I want to be a great example on the field." The hype about Fernandez has been justified. He went 30-3 in three prep seasons, helped his team win two state titles and was taken by the Marlins with the 14th overall pick in the 2011 draft. He went 14-2 with a 2.02 ERA in 27 minor-league starts, none above Single-A, and cracked the Marlins rotation with a strong spring. "He has the ability to execute pitches like only a handful of guys Ive ever seen," Miami manager Mike Redmond said. At 6-foot-2 and 242 pounds, Fernandez is physically mature for his age, and his repertoire is also advanced. Many of his strikeouts come on a slider or curve, which hell throw even on a 3-2 count, and this year he added an effective changeup to go with his fastball, which is consistently in the mid-90s and peaks at 98 mph. "Hes so polished for a young pitcher," Redmond said. "Its amazing how good his secondary pitches are." The Marlins have been careful with the youngsters workload, and theyll likely limit him to no more than 170 innings this year. But he wants to be a workhorse and was pleased to throw a career-high 107 pitches to beat the high-scoring Cardinals in his most recent start, especially after giving up two runs in the first inning. "I compete my butt off," he said. "It doesnt matter who Im facing. It could be the best hitter in the world; it could be my mom. I compete and compete and compete and compete, and thats what everybody is going to get out of me every time." Was it a thrill to beat the Cardinals? Heck, it was a thrill just to meet them. "One of the special moments in the game: The first time I went up to hit, Yadier Molina was catching," Fernandez said. "I look up to that guy. When they won the World Series, I saw him catch and I said, Man, I wish one day I could shake his hand. "So I said, Man, its a pleasure to be playing against you. He said, No, its my pleasure.
