Painter would start unless Kerry Collins was cleared

If Greg Carey were a college free agent 20 years ago, his phone would have been ringing off the hook with NHL teams calling about signing him. Modern technology gave him a different problem. "I ran out of my phone minutes on my AT&T calling plan for the first time," Carey said in a phone interview, after getting some more minutes. "Its been a little overwhelming at times, but its been fun. Its kind of a good problem to have." A handful of teams showed interest in Carey before the Phoenix Coyotes signed the Hamilton native to a one-year entry-level contract Wednesday. The 23-year-old St. Lawrence University forward was so sought-after because hes again a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top NCAA mens hockey player. Carey, who led the NCAA with 39 assists and was second with 58 points in 38 games, picked the Coyotes because he believes they offer a good chance to make an impact on offence. "Ive kind of prided myself in my college career in my ability to contribute offensively to kind of put pucks in the back of the net and create plays and make chances," Carey said. "Theyre kind of happy with my style of play and excited to have me to add my little offensive flare to their system." The Coyotes, a middle-of-the-pack offensive team this season, dealt young forward prospect Chris Brown to the Washington Capitals in a trade that got them veteran Martin Erat. Carey is set to report to the same Portland Pirates AHL team that Brown had 35 points for this season. Carey would obviously love to be able to play for the soon-to-be-renamed Arizona Coyotes next season but said hell do "whatever I need to do" there or in Portland. Assistant general manager Brad Treliving told the team website that Carey has been a point-producer and goal-scorer at every level but also that its a big step into the world of pro hockey. Signing a one-year contract also makes 2014-15 a big risk-reward season for Carey, who wasnt drafted out of minor midget and played tier-2 junior A hockey with the Burlington Cougars before going to St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. "You get a year to come in and prove yourself and kind of show what youve got and kind of put everything on the line," Carey said. "Its a terrific opportunity for college players after were done. ... Its a challenge that you kind of look forward to." Carey looks forward to brother Matt joining him, if the St. Lawrence junior forward opts to make that move. Nothing was done on that front by mid-day Thursday to make sure Greg and Matt would continue to be teammates. "Hes dealing with his advisers and looking for what the best fit is for him," Greg Carey said. "I loved playing with him in college. Its all opportunity and I know hes looking for his best opportunity. And well see what happens here with him." Kyrie Irving Cavaliers Jersey . SEATTLE -- With one swing, Kyle Seager hopes he ended his personal skid at the plate and the Seattle Mariners slide. "Any time you see the ball hit the ground, its obviously a big confidence booster," Seager said. "It has felt better the last couple of days and today it showed up. Thankfully." Seager hit a three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth, his second of the game, and the Mariners rallied for a 5-3 win over the Houston Astros on Wednesday to stop an eight-game losing streak. With Seattle on the verge of getting swept for the second straight series, Seager hit a two-run homer in the seventh off starter Jarred Cosart. Then he capped the biggest hitting day of his big league career with his drive on the first pitch from closer Josh Fields (0-1) in the ninth. It was the third multihomer game of Seagers career, and the five RBIs were a career high. Seager had not homered since Sept. 3 of last season at Kansas City. "He has a track record and Ive said all along that he is going to hit," Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said. "Obviously, when youre in a losing streak and the guys you expect to hit dont hit, its a little frustrating but in that case you have one of two options: you can sit him or you can play him. I chose to play him and he didnt disappoint." Seager had been one of Seattles few consistent hitters the past two seasons, establishing himself as a lock in the Mariners lineup. That made his struggles to start this season so surprising. Seager entered Wednesday hitting just .156 with two RBIs. He had more strikeouts (17) than hits (10) at the start of the day. His final three at-bats against the Astros were more like what Seager had shown in the past. He drew a leadoff walk to open the fifth, then homered on a 3-2 pitch from Cosart in the seventh to cut Houstons lead to 3-2. Seattle already had a rally going in the ninth. Robinson Cano dropped a single in front of an outfield playing deep to open the inning, and Corey Harts sharp single put two on with no outs. Fields rallied to strike out Justin Smoak, but Seager went to the plate aggressively looking for a first-pitch fastball. He got it. And Seattles had a chance to celebrate for the first time in more than a week. "Nobody was really stressing," Seager said. "Weve been all right. We know what we have here. Obviously nobody wants to lose, but we know what we have here and we havent been panicking." Seattles late rally spoiled what was looking to be a sweep for the Astros. Cosart took a shutout into the seventh after failing to make it out of the first inning in his previous start. The Astros got a two-run double from Jason Castro in the third inning and Chris Carters second homer of the series in the seventh to take a 3-0 lead. Still, Houstons batting average for the season dropped to .199 after managing just six hits. Chris Young struggled with his control early and walked five, three of those coming in the third. But he retired 11 of 12 batters before Carters homer and lasted seven innings to help save Seattles taxed bullpen. Young struck out six and threw 113 pitches. Fernando Rodney (1-1) got the victory, pitching the top of the ninth in relief. "The most demoralizing loss in baseball is a late inning loss, when you have the game won," Houston manager Bo Porter said. "Since Ive been here weve had our share of them." NOTES: Seattle RHP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) and LHP James Paxton (back) will begin recovery throwing programs within the next week. McClendon said Paxton has been cleared to start throwing Friday and Walker next Monday. ... Carter has hit seven career homers at Safeco Field. ... Coach Oleg Znarok would not reveal anything about Ovechkins injury other than to say he was taken to a local hospital. Znarok said information would be released later. "Of course its scary. We hope hes healthy and can play," said former Winnipeg Jets forward Alex Burmistrov. Ovechkin took an open-ice hit from Marcus Kink that appeared to make contact with his right knee, then flipped over and remained on the ice. The Russian captain and Washington Capitals star was down for two minutes before needing to be helped off by teammates, putting no pressure on his right leg. Ovechkin was injured in the third period of Russias 3-0 victory and did not return. "I hope nothing is wrong with him. I hope he is fine.dddddddddddd You never want to see that," said German goaltender Philipp Grubauer, who is also a teammate of Ovechkin. "We need him in Washington. He had 51 goals this year, he is one of the best players in the world so we need him up in Washington." There have been over 30 injuries at this tournament, but Ovechkins could turn out to be the most significant. Kink refused comment when asked his opinion of the hit. Montreal-born German coach Pat Cortina called it an "unfortunate incident" and added that Ovechkin was a "great ambassador" for the sport. The Washington Capitals issued the following statement on Sunday: "We are aware that Alex Ovechkin sustained an injury during todays game versus Germany. Our medical staff is working with Ovechkin and Team Russia to gather additional information at this time." wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

BARCELONA, Spain -- Sevilla beat Granada 4-0 on Sunday to keep the pressure on Athletic Bilbao in their fight for Spains last Champions League berth. Celta Vigo outclassed Almeria with a 4-2 away win as forward Manuel "Nolito" Agudo netted a double, and Paulao scored one goal and set up another, but both for the wrong team, as bottom-side Real Betis slumped to a demoralizing 3-1 defeat at Rayo Vallecano. Granadas defeat at Sevilla was eerily similar to Betis debacle, with its players scoring an own goal and gifting another goal to Kevin Gameiro. Diego Mainz redirected Gameiros pass inside his own post in the 14th, and Gameiro tapped in his 14th league goals this season in the 51st, saving Tiago Delfim from being credited with another own goal after he had pushed the ball toward his empty net. Stephane Mbia and Victor Machin added goals for Sevilla in the 58th and 68th. Sevilla plays Valencia on Thursday in the semifinals of the Europa League. This win provisionally closed the gap with fourth-place Bilbao to three points before the Basques visits Barcelona later. Almerias Rodrigo Rios hit the post in the 10th, but Celta dominated the rest of the game through forwards Nolito, Rafina and Fabian Orellana. Rafina set up the opener when his deflected shot fell to Nolito to score in the 19th. Rios levelled in the 40th, only for Nolito to find Charles to cap a buildup started by Orellana in the 52nd. Another flowing move saw Nolito score from a pass by Orellana in the 71st before Rafina lobbed the ball behind the defence for Orellana to add a fourth four minutes later. Oscar Diaz got Almerias second goal in the 88th but his side remained two points from safety. Celta, meanwhile, climbed into the middle of the standings. "We went out there with the same philosophy we have had all season," said Nolito, referring to coach Luis Enriques attacking style. "We have to celebrate this win because it is a big step toward staying up." Paulaos nightmare began when he left his back pass woefully short of reaching goalkeeper Adan Garrido, letting Rayo forward Rochina Raixes poach the ball and roll it in for the 14th-minute opener. The Brazilian centre back followed that mistake by unfortunately clearing a cross that floated into his own net in the 27th. Paulao immediately asked to be substituted and was replaced five minutes later, with the Rayo fans in Vallecas Stadium politely applauding him to show their support. Rayo, which has surged out of the drop zone to the middle of the table with only one loss in nine rounds, kept the pressure on as Joaquin Larrivey tapped in a rebound in the 52nd before Javier Chica got Betis consolation goal in the 79th. Betis was left on the brink of relegation, 10 points from safety with four games to go. Later, Barcelonas players and coach will be judged by their fans at Camp Nou after returning from three stinging defeats that threaten to leave the Catalan club without a major trophy for the first time since 2007-08. NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez dropped a lawsuit accusing a New York Yankees team doctor of botching his treatment for a hip injury, ending what had been a lingering piece of the sluggers legal fight over his baseball career, his lawyer said Friday. Rodriguez withdrew his suit against Dr. Christopher Ahmad "for the sole purpose of having no legal distractions" as the third baseman anticipates returning to play after the season-long suspension hes serving this year, attorney Alan S. Ripka said. "He wants to focus on being the best baseball player he can be, the best Yankee he can be, and wants nothing to distract him from those goals," the attorney said. Ahmads lawyer, Peter T. Crean, said the orthopedic surgeon was very pleased with the development, which he described as "demonstrating that Dr. Ahmads care was complete and appropriate." Ripka insisted that dropping the case wasnt a reflection on its merits. "Its about eliminating more things to think about and deal with instead of whats the most important thing to (Rodriguez), which is playing baseball for the Yankees," the lawyer said. Rodriguez abandoned the medical malpractice case four months after withdrawing two lawsuits against Major League Baseball over its investigation into wheether he used banned, performance-enhancing drugs.dddddddddddd He has denied it, but he agreed to accept the longest performance-booster-related suspension in baseball history. While he was fighting the suspension last fall, the 38-year-old Rodriguez filed his medical malpractice suit. It said he had kept playing and worsened a left hip injury in October 2012 because Ahmad didnt tell him an MRI had showed a joint tear. Rodriguez ultimately had surgery for the injury in January 2013, and his recuperation kept him from rejoining the Yankees until August. The now-withdrawn suit also named New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where the MRI was done. The hospital "never thought that the case had any merit" and was pleased to see it dropped, said its lawyer, Neil F. Brenes. The case was still in early stages, and arguments hadnt delved into the medical issues. But in a sign of the sensitivity surrounding them, Rodriguezs lawyer had asked a judge to make sure that any potential video of Rodriguez answering pretrial questions wouldnt be publicly disseminated, had the case gotten to that point. The suit didnt name the Yankees, and team representatives didnt immediately respond to email inquiries Friday evening about the development, first reported by the Daily News. wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

GLENDALE, Ariz. - The entire world will be watching Glendale on Sunday as it hosts the Super Bowl and the legions of fans who are shelling out big bucks to see the big game. What may be not visible amid all the hoopla is a sobering reality about the Super Bowl host city: Glendale is suffering deep financial issues over its troubled effort to become a sports destination.Glendale bet big on professional sports in the last 15 years, spending millions of dollars on a hockey arena for the Arizona Coyotes and investing heavily in a spring training ballpark for the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. Then the economy tanked, and the hockey team went through bankruptcy, with several different owners in recent years. The city has found stronger financial footing since then and its bond rating has improved markedly, but not without having to raise taxes, trim 25 per cent of the municipal workforce, cut back on paving projects, and reduce hours at municipal swimming pools and libraries. The 9.2 per cent sales tax that shoppers and diners pay in Glendale is among the highest in the state. To fiscal conservatives, Glendale serves as a cautionary tale for suburban cities across the United States that want to throw public money at professional sports projects.Overall, its a bad move for cities, said Kurt Altman, general counsel for the Arizona-based Goldwater Institute, which fought Glendale over its enticements to the hockey team. As much as they say its going to make the city a destination, it just doesnt.Glendale is a city of about 250,000 people in the northwest part of the Phoenix metro area. The location where the Arizona Cardinals stadium and the Arizona Coyotes arena were built had been a dusty farm area. The agricultural influence is visible to people driving to games when they pass tractors and farm equipment in nearby fields. As the Coyotes and Cardinals sought new facilities in the early 2000s and efforts failed to build them in other parts of the Phoenix area, Glendale stepped in. The city helped pay for the Coyotes arena with $167 million in bonds in 2003, and as the hockey teams finances began to fade during the recession, Glendale went all-in to keep the team in Arizona. The city dished out $50 million earlier this decade to keep the team and continues to make annual payments toward the arena, but the money it is getting in return has not met expectations. The football stadium was built in 2006, but Glendale was not on the hook for the costs of the $450 million retractable-roof facility. It was funded primarily with new taxes on car rentals and hotels in the Phoenix area, but that financing hit a snag last year when a judge ruled that the car rental tax was unconstitutional, leaving a major funding source for the Super Bowl venue in jeopardy. The issue is still being argued in the courts.Glendale is far from alone. Cities and states nationwide have long struggled with how much public money to spend on stadium projects. The effort to build a new stadium for the Minnesota Vikings became embroiled in controversy over a financial commitment by the state that opponents said was excessive. The St. Louis Rams are at the centre of a debate over whether to spend public money on a new stadium. Topeka, Kansas, is immersed in a fight over a motorsports track that has drawn comparisons to hockey in Glendale. As he navigates the financial situation, Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers returns to a maxim he has repeated many times in his life: Im not living in the past. Im just paying for it.In the case of the Super Bowl, he believes the city is paying dearly. He said Glendale will actually lose a couple million dollars by hosting the event. Its spending huge amounts of money on overtime and police and public safety costs for the Super Bowl but not getting much back.Super Bowl visitors are mostly staying in Phoenix and Scottsdale and only showing up in Glendale on game day, meaning the city wont see much of a boost in tax revenue. And the city was hoping the state would reimburse Glendale for its police overtime costs, but lawmakers have scoffed at the idea.Weiers said it pains him that the city had to cut services and lay off workers, but the moves were necessary to ensure financial solvency. He said the outlook has improved in the last year, a far cry from a couple years ago when Glendale was in jeopardy of joining the likes of Detroit in the category of municipal bankruptcies.I have to believe that if 1 is perfect as things could be and 10 was bankruptcy, Id say we were a strong 8, Weiers said. We never had to go there, and I strongly believe we wont have to go there.___Follow Josh Hoffner at http://twitter.com/JoshHoffner. Womens Nike Roshe Run Print Orange Running Shoes . NEW YORK -- Michael Vick is switching green jerseys -- and maybe trading his clipboard for a starting job. The New York Jets signed the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback to a one-year deal Friday, and released Mark Sanchez, the one-time face of the franchise. "I love competition and I love football," Vick said during a conference call Friday night. "And, I feel I have a lot of football left to play." Vick will present a real challenge to Jets starter Geno Smith, who played well down the stretch of his rookie season, but finished with 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. "As of right now," Vick said, "Genos the starting quarterback of this football team." But, Vick also made it clear that he still envisions himself as a starter. "I wouldnt say I would necessarily be OK with sitting on the bench all year," Vick said. "But, I know what I signed up for and I know what I came to New York to do." He said his first order of business is competing with Smith and helping the second-year quarterback along. "At the end of the day," Vick said, "Ill be content with it." Vick said he met Smith last year during the draft process and has stayed in touch since. He also acknowledged that he wont wear his familiar No. 7 with the Jets, saying it was Smiths number to keep. Vick was a free agent after spending the last five seasons with the Eagles. He will be reunited with Jets offensive co-ordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who helped the quarterback have the best season of his career in Philadelphia in 2010. Vick was plagued by injuries the last three years and lost the starting job last year to Nick Foles. "I want to personally wish Michael Vick and his family all the best as he heads into the next phase of his career," Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. "I really enjoyed getting to know him over the last five years. He always represented our team with a tremendous amount of class." Vick thanked the Eagles, their fans and the city of Philadelphia in an open letter posted on The Philadelphia Inquirers website. "I was honoured to be their quarterback and took the privilege to heart every day," he wrote. Vick was considered the top quarterback available in this off-seasons free agent class, although he didnt garner much attention. Vick said he was sold on the Jets because he enjoyed the idea of being reunited with Mornhinweg and playing for Rex Ryan, an opportunity he always hoped for. "Hes a great talent whos won many games, including playoff games, in this league," Mornhinweg said of Vick in comments posted on the teams website. "He has the respect of both his teammates and opponents. Hes here in a role where hes going to compete and push Geno Smith to become the very best that he can be. Michael will be able to go in and play at a high level and a winning level if called upon." Vick, who had a solid start in Chip Kellys up-tempo offence, injured a hamstring in Week 5 last season. He was replaced by Foles, who led the Eagles to the NFC East title and was selected the Pro Bowl MVP. Despite losing the starting gig, Vick was praised by Kelly and team officials for being a leader in the locker room and maintaining an outstanding relationship with Foles and helping him through his second NFL season. "I have a lot left," Vick said. "Its evident with what I was able to do last year." The move by the Jets is reminiscent of the headline-making trade they made in 2008, when they acquired an unretired Brett Favre -- but as their unquestioned starter. The Vick signing also came two years to the day that the Jets made the stunning move to trade for Tim Tebow. Vick, a four-time Pro Bowl selection who will be 34 in June, was once considered the most dynamic player in the NFL, particularly during his first six NFL seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. His playing career was abruptly halted for two seasons in 2007 when he pleaded guilty to being part of a dog fighting ring. He served 21 months in federal prison, and two more in home confinement. Since his release in 2009, Vick has worked with the Humane Society of the United States to stop organized animal fighting. The move drew mixed reviews by Jets fans on Twitter and message boards, but that didnt concern Vick. "I appreciate all the Jets fans who appreciate me and accept me for who I am and what Ive become, not for what Ive done," Vick said. "Right now, my past is irrelevant." The Sanchez move came as no surprise, but completes a stunning downfall for the quarterback who once drew comparisons to Joe Namath after helping lead the Jets to consecutive AFC title games in 2009 and 2010. Sanchez struggled with consistency after that, and the lasting image of his time with the Jets came in 2012 when he fumbled after running into the backside of guard Brandon Moore. It was returned for a touchdown by New Englands Steve Gregory in front of a national television audience on Thanksgiving night and infamously labeled "The Butt Fumble." He spent last season on injured reserve after tearing the labrum in his right shoulder in a preseason game, clearing the way for Smith to start every game. Sanchez had three years remaining on his contract, but his $13.1 million salary cap number for next season -- and $2 million roster bonus due Tuesday -- made it unlikely the team would keep him at that amount. "Id like to thank Mark for everything hes done for this team and me personally," Ryan said in a statement issued by the team. "We were rookies together and had some early success, becoming the first rookie head coach-quarterback to go to back-to-back championship games. We experienced a lot together and I really appreciate Mark. "Hes a great player, a great teammate and I wish him nothing but the best." nike air max nz sale . Scott Walker proposed a plan Tuesday that calls for Wisconsin to help build a new basketball arena for the Milwaukee Bucks with $220 million in bonds that would be funded by projected growth in income taxes from NBA players. The Republican governor said his Pay Their Way proposal would protect state taxpayers and keep the team in Milwaukee. A new arena in downtown Milwaukee could cost about $450 million to $500 million.New owners bought the team last April and have promised to contribute $150 million toward the new arena. Former owner and ex-U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl has promised $100 million of his own money to help replace the BMO Harris Bradley Center, which was built in 1988.Under what Walker called a first-of-its-kind plan, the more than $6.5 million thats collected from taxes on the salaries of the Bucks and visiting NBA players would continue to go to the states general fund. Walker said that figure is expected to grow due to rising salaries and revenue from the NBAs TV contracts, so any money above $6.5 million would be used to pay off the bond by 2046.I think its arguably the most fiscally conservative idea in the country for a professional sports team, Walker said at a Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce meeting. Were having them pay their own way. Its not coming out of revenues from anywhere else. Its not coming from new taxes. Its keeping the foundation we have today. The plan would be included in the state budget proposal to be submitted by the governor to the Legislature next week. The Bucks hope to settle on a site for a new home in the next month. Team president Peter Feigin thanked Walker for the plan. The governors support brings Wisconsin closer to creating a new state-of-the-art venue and entertaiinment destination that will become an economic catalyst for the entire state, Feigin said in a statement.ddddddddddddThe Bucks could leave Milwaukee in 2017 if there is no new arena — a move that would cost the state nearly $10 million per year in income tax collections alone, Walker said. The deadline is part of the agreement of last years team sale. The NBA could refund the money to the new owners and take possession of the team for a possible relocation.Thats not an idle threat. Thats just the facts, Walker said. I cant ignore the fact that if we do nothing, it is not a cost-neutral proposition.Another condition of the agreement would require the Bucks new owners to pay off the bonds if they sell the team.By asking the Milwaukee Bucks to pay their own way, we are protecting state taxpayers, Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said. However, its important to note that in order for the state to be a partner in this endeavour, we would expect the city and county to be part of the equation as well.Milwaukee Common Council President Michael J. Murphy was scheduled to meet with team officials on Wednesday to learn more about the proposal.Republicans control both the state Senate and Assembly, but some conservatives raised concerns about borrowing money to help the Bucks. Rep. John Nygren, a Republican co-chair of the budget-writing committee, said Walkers proposal was a starting point for discussion. The Legislature will debate the budget over the next several months, with a final vote likely sometime in June. The rebuilding Bucks were 22-22 going into Wednesday nights game in Miami. New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Jaroslav Halaks 27 saves and a dominant second period kept the Islanders the toast of New York, as the current Metropolitan Division leaders dealt the crosstown rival Rangers a 3-0 defeat at Madison Square Garden. Anders Lee, Nikolay Kulemin and Frans Nielsen all lit the lamp during the middle session to help the Islanders close out a season-high seven-game road trip with five wins and remain ahead of Pittsburgh for the division lead. The Rangers entered Tuesdays anticipated showdown with victories in 13 of their previous 14 games, but couldnt maintain the momentum as Halak outplayed Henrik Lundqvist and the Isles finished with a 44-27 advantage in shots. Lundqvist was replaced by Cam Talbot at the start of the third period after stopping 29-of-32 chances. For Canadian gymnast Kristina Vaculik, the answer comes easily. "Have patience." The message may sound precocious, or perhaps somewhat ironic, coming from a teenage university student. But at 19, Vaculik is considered a veteran in her sport. "Im the oldest one now, so I kind of like to act as the team leader and be in the mentoring position as well. It fits well," Vaculik said in a recent interview with CTVOlympics.ca. "They called me mom around the [Pan American Games]." An Olympic hopeful who recently helped Canada qualify its first full womens Olympic gymnastics team since 2004, Vaculik is preparing to pit herself against many of the countrys top gymnasts -- and her occasional teammates -- at this weeks Elite Canada gymnastics competition in Mississauga, Ont. She is among the more experienced Canadian competitors in the sport, with more than four years of senior-level competition experience under her belt. While it may not seem like a particularly lengthy tenure, it is a full career span for many elite gymnasts. One hole in her resume is her lack of an Olympic Games experience; however Missing out on Beijing 2008 might just be the most useful experience of all. "I was really hoping to go to the Olympics in 2008," Vaculik said, and then paused. "But it just didnt happen." Canada did not qualify a full team for the Games that year, and Gymnastics Canada was faced with the difficult task of choosing just two athletes to compete. At just 15-years of age at the time, Vaculik narrowly missed the cut. Although she was named to the reserve squad, a subsequent elbow injury pulled her out of that position as well. "It was just from constant pounding and that year leading up to the Olympics was really not good for it because thats when I was just competing, training. I competed every weekend up to the Olympics trying to gain points [to qualify]. By the time I was named as the reserve, my elbow was just not good. So I had to pull out and get surgery." The Whitby, Ont. native faced six months of recovery time before she was allowed to return to training. She worried she would miss out on university scholarship offers because she was unable to compete. And she spent the next two years regaining her skills and re-learning how to execute the tumbles and leaps she had grown up executing to perfection. Patience was gained in spades during those long years. "This sport is hard on the body ... maybe if youre injured and if youre not patient with the recovery process you can get more injured and its pretty frustrating," Vaculik said. "When Im training with a group of girls, I know that you look at one another and you look at how other girls are learning new skills and how they might be learning faster than you. "I tell my [younger] sister things like that and girls in my club. I train with a group of younger girls. Ten-or-12-year-olds. Ive told them things like that ... that its all just a matter of time. If youre patient, if you know that you work hard every day in the gym, its just a matter of practising and putting your best into it every day. Everyone learns at her own pace. Thats the patience part." The womens gymnastics national team director, Kyna Fletcher, watched Vaculik go through the heartbreak of missing the Olympic Games her first time around. "At that point, Kristina was really young, not that it means anything," Fletcher said. "But to have a second go-around, shes very, very fortunate. And were fortunate to have her that driven. I think thats a huge example for us. She could have quit and walked away. Easily. And she didnt." Ahead of the Olympic qualifying event in London last month, Fletcher brought up Vaculiks experience with the team. If we dont qualify a full team of five girls, she told them, you will have to go through that selection process again. "As a team, we sat down and talked about it, Ok, girls, which one are we going to send?&quoot; Fletcher recalled.dddddddddddd "[Kristina] said to me, There needs to be a whole team there. I dont want to do this on my own." The team succeeded at the January qualifier where the 2008 team did not. Their combined score of 221.913 led them to a second-place finish. It was more than good enough for full-team qualification. Fifteen-year-old Victoria Moors -- the youngest athlete from any nation to compete in the London event -- was among the athletes that helped Canada to its qualifying finish. "When I was 10 years old, I watched Canada on YouTube. I would just, go on the gymnastics website and kind of be like, Oh, I want to be like them one day. But now Im competing on their team. It lights me up completely," Moors said at the time. "This is actually my first big competition so I havent really had anything like that before. People are coming up, asking me for my autograph and Im just like, well this is a first. Its really cool." Moors is a budding talent that greatly impressed Gymnastics Canada at a selection camp ahead of the competition, but she had never before competed at a senior international level. The leap upward could have been overwhelming, but Vaculik made sure that Moors knew her door was always open. "Basically, if she was uncomfortable in any way, she had us to come to. ...We all have each others back," Vaculik said. "I know its hard being younger and being with a group of older girls because you feel pressure and like you have to live up to standard, but its not really about any of that. Its about going out there and doing what you know you can do." Teammate Peng Peng Lee, 18, watched and admired as Vaculik took the 15-year-old under her wing at that competition. Moors went on to finish second in the floor exercise final. "I look up to Kristina. Shes a team leader," Lee said. "She keeps us going. She always makes sure that were on track and were focused. There are a lot of gymnasts I look up to, like [four-time Olympic medallist] Shawn Johnson, and all those big names. But Kristina always makes sure that no one is left alone and that no one is being isolated. So we always feel like a team. And [in London], that was amazing. Because we all needed to be as a team." Becoming a team in a sport that emphasizes individual achievement is no easy feat. Canadas top gymnasts come from across the country and train separately until they gather at competitions and occasional team selection camps. According to Fletcher, veterans like Vaculik have a lot to offer the younger competitors. Canadian teammates Lee and Brittany Rogers were also a great help in London, she said. "I think they set a good example. They have a calmness about them because of their experience. Weve really worked at getting them to sort of pull the girls in and make sure that were all together no matter what. Were one." Fletcher expects the veterans to continue to play a big part in the lead-up to the 2012 Olympic Games. The team will not be named until sometime in June, and the girls will have just a few short weeks to come together before the Games begin. "I think trying to put [young gymnasts] into as many circumstances as you can with those girls to kind of be able to model and mentor the behaviour ... and the mental preparation, I think thats important. Its great for them to kind of be able to model behind that and for us to encourage them and be able to say, Hey. Have a look at So-And-So. Shes dealt with adversity, shes dealt with this and shes still come through on the other side." Teammates have picked up the message. Asked which gymnasts she admired, 17-year-old Olympic hopeful Madeline Gardiner thought of Vaculik right away. "Kristina tried for the 2008 Olympics and shes back again for 2012", she said. "Were all super proud of her and she had a previous injury, but shes back and doing really well and thats just inspiring. "It kind of gives you a little bit of hope knowing that you have almost a second chance." wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills could identify a new owner within three months, leading Gov. Andrew Cuomos stepping up the states efforts to secure the franchises long-term future in the region. A person familiar with the sale process told The Associated Press on Saturday there is an anticipation that the Bills could be sold by July, and the sale approved by NFL owners as early as the leagues meetings in October. The same person and another person also told the AP that at least one prospective ownership group has already toured potential new stadium locations in Buffalo. Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because the sale process has not been made public. The person would not identify which ownership group toured the city, what sites were viewed or who provided the tour. The Bills future in Buffalo is uncertain after team owner and founder Ralph Wilson died in March. Wilsons estate is in the process of hiring an investment banking firm that would oversee the sale of the team, which is expected to go to the highest bidder. The updated timetable has led Cuomo to speed up the states involvement in protecting its interests in preventing the Bills from relocating. The state intends to hire a consulting firm over the next week to produce a report within three months that would be issued to prospective owners. The report would identify potential stadium sites and outline public financing options that would be made available. That firm would work with sports business attorney Irwin Raij, whose contract was extended last month, to represent the state during the sale process. Raij specializes in stadium development projects and lease agreements. In 2012, he represented New York in negotiating the Bills 10-year lease that included a strict non-relocation clause that makes it difficult for the team to move before the 2020 season. The firm would produce its report ahead of the "New Stadium Working Group," a committee made up of public and private leaders, including Bills executives. The group has already met twice over the past month and is responsible for making recommendations whether a new stadium or renovations to the teams current home best fit the franchises needs to remain viable in Buffalo once the lease expires in 2023. The working group is expected to take six months or longer before making its recommendations, well after the team could be sold. Cuomo is intent on making sure a framework of a plan is in place much sooner, Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy told the AP during a visit through the region Friday. "The governor wants to be prepared if there are any earlier offers to buy the team," Duffy said. "Our team is looking at sites now in Erie County, Buffalo, Niagara County. Too bad. He could have shared his reward with Doug Baldwin. "I could have caught them, thats how close they got to me," Lynch said. Baldwin, an undrafted rookie out of Stanford, showed the rest of the NFL what it missed Monday night. He blocked a first-quarter punt that was returned by Michael Robinson 17 yards for a touchdown, then caught a 29-yard TD pass from Tarvaris Jackson in the third period as the Seattle Seahawks pulled away for a 30-13 win over the staggering St. Louis Rams. Seattle (6-7) won for the fourth time in five games and kept alive its slim hopes for reaching the post-season. The Seahawks likely would need to win out to potentially make the playoffs a reality, but theyre at least back in the conversation after a 2-6 start. Much of this late-season rally has been on the back of Lynch, who is making a push for a reward beyond sweets this off-season -- a big contract as a free agent. Lynch topped 100 yards rushing for the fifth time in the last six games, finishing with 115 on 23 carries. He scored a touchdown in his ninth straight game on a 16-yard run with 2:57 left to put away Seattles 13th win in its last 14 games against the Rams. Seahawks fans threw bags of Skittles into the end zone as Lynch celebrated his ninth rushing touchdown this season, and he tied a franchise record with nine consecutive games with a TD. "I think its more of a team accomplishment," Lynch said. "Its great to have, but that win was a lot better." Baldwin, who is Seattles leading receiver and has become the main option for Jackson, finished with seven receptions for 93 yards and his third TD catch of the season. As a receiver, he disappeared until the third quarter when he snagged a 22-yard reception across the middle to convert a third-and-11 near midfield. On the next play, Baldwin faked going inside and broke to the sideline, losing Darian Stewart in coverage. Tarvaris Jackson found Baldwin and he got just inside the pylon to give the Seahawks a 14-point lead. Baldwin had six of his seven catches in the second half. "We just expect that out of him now," Tarvaris Jackson said. "We expect him to go out and make plays every week." His catches seemed secondary to his contribution on special teams. Baldwins influence on the game was evident from the start, when he took a pitch from Leon Washington on a kickoff reverse and returned it beyond the 40. Seattle was later forced to punt, but it was Baldwin racing from the outside to down the punt at the Rams six. Then he made the biggest of his three fine special teams plays in the first five minutes of thhe game.dddddddddddd Coming almost entirely unblocked off the right end, Baldwin took a punt off the foot of Donnie Jones. The bounding ball hopped up into the arms of Robinson, who went the final 17 yards for an early 7-0 Seahawks lead. "As far as my expectations go, I expected to be successful. I didnt know how successful, but I expected to be able to come in here and win a job in some capacity, because if you dont have that confidence in yourself youre not going to win a job," Baldwin said. "To be where I am now, no I didnt expect this. But at the same time Im not satisfied." Tarvaris Jackson wasnt his best, but didnt need to be against the Rams. He went 21 of 32 for 224 yards and connected with nine receivers. Seattle topped 100 yards rushing for the sixth straight game, accomplishing that feat for the first time in the same regular season since 1996. It came behind an offensive line that lost its third starter for the season a week ago when Russell Okung went down with a torn pectoral muscle. And kicker Steven Hauschka hit field goals of 23, 42 and 48 yards. Seattles only flub was a fumbled exchange late in the first half deep in the Rams end. Sam Bradford started for St. Louis (2-11) despite a high left ankle sprain thats bothered him for nearly two months and forced him to miss last weeks game at San Francisco. Bradford barely practised this week and it showed as he was rusty and made poor decisions. Bradford was 12 of 29 for 193 yards, was intercepted by Brandon Browner on the first play of the second half and nearly picked off on a handful of other throws. Steven Jackson had 50 yards rushing on 11 carries by halftime, including dashes of 11 yards twice and 10 yards once. He was limited to just 42 yards on 15 carries when the teams met a few weeks ago and the Rams were trying to exploit the Seahawks secondary. Jackson finished with 63 yards on 20 carries, but was ignored for five plays from the Seattle one in the fourth quarter before finally scoring on a third-and-goal plunge. That was the extent of the highlights for the Rams. "I feel like weve just lacked consistency all year," Bradford said. "Its just really hard to get a rhythm going when you dont establish the path on a run." Notes: Seattle LB Leroy Hill sustained a stinger in the closing seconds, but coach Pete Carroll thought he would be OK. Seahawks guard Robert Gallery was taken out late with a sore hip. ... Steven Jacksons one-yard TD run in the fourth quarter was St. Louis first offensive TD in Seattle since September 2008. ... Brandon Lloyd led St. Louis with five catches for 82 yards but was targeted 12 times. ... Browners interception was his fifth of the season. ... Josh Brown made field goals of 46 and 29 yards for the Rams. wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

Lake Buena Vista, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Marylands Brad Craddock is the winner of the 2014 Lou Groza Award, given annually to the countrys top kicker. Craddock, the first Terrapin to win the award and just third kicker in Big 10 history, went 18-of-19 on his field goal tries. He also kicked a 57-yard field goal in a loss to Ohio State, the second- longest field goal in college football in 2014. Other finalists were Florida States Roberto Aguayo and West Virginias Josh Lambert. Aguayo, who was honored as the 2013 recipient for the Groza Award, made 25- of-27 field goal attempts this season. He was vying to become the second kicker in history to win the award twice, joining former Florida State kicker Sebastian Janikowski. Lambert went 27-of-36 on his kicks, including a game-winning 55-yarder against Texas Tech. 2015 Nike Roshe Run Purple White Mens Running Shoes .C. -- Unable to get much lift off his sore right ankle, Bobcats centre Al Jefferson figured it was time to make an adjustment. The Canadian head coach has been shuffling his deck of impressive cards from the moment his team touched down here in Russia, searching for the right mixture that will yield a second consecutive gold medal. Babcock will employ his fourth different set of forward combinations at Wednesdays quarterfinal against Latvia. Only one line gained any kind of traction during the preliminary round, a trio that includes Jonathan Toews, Jeff Carter and Patrick Marleau. "Weve changed our lines, in my opinion – same at last Olympics – too much," said Babcock. Stingy in their defensive game in wins over Norway, Austria and Finland, the Canadian squad has not been the potent offensive machine one might expect with such an overwhelming talent base. In fact, the defence, led by the polished Drew Doughty with four goals, actually outscored the forwards – only three of whom have scored – in the preliminary round. All of which explains the continued juggling. And unlike say the American team, who has thrived behind the work of Toronto linemates, Phil Kessel and James van Riemsdyk, Canada has not yet benefited from any of the NHL pairs it brought to Sochi. Though reunited once more, Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz have failed to establish their Pittsburgh connectivity. Toews and Patrick Sharp landed together for one largely quiet game. And the scary Anaheim duo of Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf has just a single goal and will try its third left winger in Jamie Benn against the Latvians. "Were just trying to find some ways to have better execution and generate some more chances," said John Tavares, likely to be paired with a mix that includes Sharp, Rick Nash and perhaps Martin St. Louis. "When we get our chances, weve got to put them in. Were not giving up a whole lot and we are controlling the game so I think those are good signs. I think that will lead to good things, especially with all the talent we have and the ability to create chances that we have." As promised – and perhaps to the recent chagrin of Babcock, based on the above remarks – Canada has not remained patient with any of the combinations it blended up. Carter, for instance, played one subpar game with Crosby and was promptly the 13th forward at the outset of game two. With talent bursting at the seams of the roster, the rationale behind shuffling what doesnt appear to work is understandable. "I think the one thing weve learned over time is if its not there, chemistry-wise, move," assistant coach Ken Hitchcock said before the tournament began. "Dont sit there and wait on it because [if] its not there early it aint there later." The challenge, of course, is that chemistry can take time to develop, but in a tournament that numbers two weeks, waiting really isnt an attractive option, though iin some cases may be warranted.dddddddddddd Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin, as fearsome a twosome as imaginable, remained together for each of Russias four games despite combining for just two goals. They did, however, see a new left wing in their qualification round match against Norway with Alex Semin replaced by Alex Popov. Whether that patience will be rewarded remains to be seen. In the case of Crosby, who has just two assists with a rotating cast of linemates, part of the fallout would seem to stem from the absence of Steven Stamkos, projected to be Ovechkin to Crosbys Malkin here in Sochi. The Canadian captain has played with eight different line combinations in 11 Olympic games dating back to Vancouver in 2010. "I think youre always aware of who youre playing with and what their strengths are," said Crosby, "but I dont think it changes what you do out there. I dont think you really have a chance to over-think too much. As far as what youre doing individually, its more your game plan as a team is whats going through your mind, rather than who youre necessarily playing with. All the guys here are so good, I think you can just read off each other, no matter who youre playing with." Babcock is betting on that being Kunitz, who rejoins Crosby and Patrice Bergeron against the Latvians. "Obviously I love playing with him," said Kunitz. "I have the tendencies and the chemistries when we play together in the NHL. We still have to go out and execute better … We have to make sure we go out and produce offensively. We have to make sure we go out and produce offensively, but make sure were working every shift, getting that momentum going forward every time somebody else gets on the ice." Outside of re-adjusting various combinations, Babcock is also pushing his group to attack the front of the net and middle of the ice with more regularity. They were largely held to the perimeter by a savvy Finnish squad in the final game of the preliminary round – all part of the ongoing adjustment to the international ice surface. An emphasis among players also centered around more puck possession and less of the dump-and-chase game preferred in much of the NHL. "It hasnt been easy to get to the front of the net, but weve controlled the play," said Tavares. "Theres been some times where teams are trying to slow us down and make it tough for us to get there." Handed just four power plays in three games, the Canadians are also hunting for more opportunity with the man advantage. Unlike the forward combinations, the defence pairings have remained rock-solid thus far and considering how well Canada has played overall defensively, with almost no chances against in the 2-1 overtime win against the Finns, a huge injection of offence might not be necessary to repeat with gold. But with potent obstacles from the U.S. and Russia potentially down the line, an improvement from the present is likely needed. wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

NEW YORK -- Surgery, suspensions and thuggery. The storylines surrounding the Eastern Conference final reached Shakespearean proportions Friday. As he was in Game 3 Thursday night, Montreal fourth-liner Brandon Prust was slap bang in the middle of the mayhem. What had seemed like a quiet off-day quickly turned dramatic when New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault revealed that forward Derek Stepan, laid out by an unpenalized blindside hit from Prust two minutes 45 seconds into the game, had suffered a broken jaw that needed surgery. Three hours later, Rangers agitator Dan Carcillo was suspended 10 games for physical abuse of an official on a play that came minutes after the Prust hit, as New York looked for retribution. The Carcillo incident came 5:51 into Thursdays game after a fight between Derek Dorsett of the Rangers and Prust. Carcillo, a fourth-liner, had been penalized for charging Prust on the play. The league said Carcillo "physically applied force to linesman Scott Driscoll while being escorted to the penalty box." The suspension was automatic under category 2 of Rule 40.3, titled Physical Abuse of Officials. Prust, meanwhile, was handed a two-game suspension for interference for the Stepan hit later Friday. It has added more drama to a series that saw Montreals all-world goalie Carey Price sent to the sidelines in Game 1 after coming out the worst for wear in a collision with six-foot-three, 230-pound Ranger Chris Kreider. For Vigneault, the missed Prust call Thursday set off a domino effect whose ripples were still being felt the next day. "Four referees missed the call," Vigneault said. "Stepan is injured. The same player that called the hit on Price accidental but on purpose. Late hit, everything that you want to get out of the game, that was his hit on Stepan. "And what saddens me about that hit is, if the call is made on the ice, were on a five-minute power play, and what happened to Dan Carcillo, and what Dan did is inexcusable, and hes going to pay a big price for it, but if the call is made on the ice, hes not put in that position. "So its unfortunate. Step (Stepan) right now at this time is probably getting operated on. He broke his jaw (Thursday), so well have an idea of the time frame (Saturday). But those are stuff that happens during the game that you have to deal with, and thats what were going to try to do." Dressed in jeans and flip-flops, Vigneault looked like he was in relaxation mode. But he was clearly irate at a sequence of events which he believes could have been avoided. Stepan went briefly to the dressing room after the hit, yelling over his shoulder at Prust as he exited. But he returned later in the period and amazingly played a total of 17:45 in the game. A team spokesman said X-rays that night were negative. But Stepan was in pain and saw a specialist Friday, when further tests detected the broken jaw. It seems unlikely that Stepan, who centres Rick Nash and Kreider on the Rangers top line, will be back any time soon. New York leads the series to two games to one. Prust, a former Ranger who counts Canadian UFC lightweight Sam (Hands of Stone) Stout as a friend, was not made available Friday as both teams, skipping practice in advance of Game 4 Sunday, offered up their coaches and select players. Montreal coach Michel Therrien defended his player. "His intention was not to hurt anyone," he said. "Like Kreider, his intention, even if he was going hard to the net and then laying on Carey Price, Im sure his intention was not to hurt Carey Price. Brandon Prust, he tried to finish his check. His intention, honestly, was not to hurt Stepan." Then Therrien suggested the Canadiens knew better than anybody about losing a star player. "If there is a team that can understand the loss of a player, its us. We lost Carey Price in the first game of the series with the hit on Kreider when he hit Carey Price, and we felt frustrated at the time. Were still frustrated not having our goalie, our No. 1 most important player." Therrien, taking a page from Vigneaults book from the Price injury debate, called it "a hockey hit." Habs forward David Desharnais called it a clean hit, with Prust just wanting to get his team going. "You never want to see a guy injured like that but, like I said, we were fighting for our lives (Thursday) and we wanted to set the tone," he said. At five foot seven, Desharnais is one of the Hobbit-like Canadiens. But the first-liner wins praise from his coach for his compete level. And he knows the value of getting under an opponents skin, as Prust clearly did in Game 3. "They were not happy about it," he said of the Rangers. "Everybody got a little chirp here and there and the game was on." A day later, the Rangers still wanted justice. "I think guys were unhappy there wasnt a call on the play," Kreider told reporters. "Obviously, it was away from the play so not a lot of people saw it. But I think the sentiment today is the same as it was yesterday, that it wasnt a clean hit. Hopefully the league deals with it justly." cheap soccer jerseys for sale . -- The Sacramento Kings are set to become the first major professional sports franchise to accept Bitcoin virtual currency for ticket and merchandise purchases. cheap soccer jerseys from china . LOS ANGELES -- Mr. Game 7 delivered in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final. Justin Williams scored 4:36 into overtime as the Los Angeles Kings rallied to edge the New York Rangers 3-2 in the opening game of the NHL championship series Wednesday night. The winning goal came on a cruel bounce, a sudden end to an evening that had started with so much promise for the underdog Rangers. Dan Girardi fanned on a clearing attempt and the puck ended up at the blue-line with Mike Richards, who found Williams alone in front. Williams, who is 7-0 on the Game 7 stage with seven goals and 14 points, scored high to the stick side to complete a Kings comeback from 2-0 down. It was his first career playoff overtime goal. "Ive said this many times, Justin is the most underrated player on our team by a mile," said Kings defenceman Drew Doughty, who had a roller-coaster night. "He doesnt get enough credit for what he does. "Theres two guys on this team that I want to give the puck to and thats him and Kopie (Anze Kopitar). When they have the puck, plays happen." Added coach Darryl Sutter: "Our best right-winger every night consistently." Williams eighth goal of the playoffs marked the third straight year that Game 1 of the final has gone to OT. Game 2 goes Saturday at the Staples Center with advantage Los Angeles. Teams winning Game 1 have gone on to claim the Cup 77 per cent of the time (57-of-74 series) since the final went to a best-of-seven format in 1939. Benoit Pouliot and Carl Hagelin scored for the Rangers before a crowd of 18,399, the Kings 118th straight sellout. Kyle Clifford and Doughty also scored for Los Angeles, which trailed 2-0 after 15 minutes. "Its a great result for us definitely but we have a lot of things to clean up," said Williams, who has nine points (three goals, six assists) in the last seven games. "Certainly not our best game by any standards especially ours. But we were able to get it done and thats the most important thing." "Weve got a lot to clean up but (we are) happy with the win," said Doughty. After going down early, the Kings tied it up at 2-2 in the second period and then came on like a freight train --outshooting New York 20-3 in the final period. The Rangers held on and then threatened late in a wild ending to regulation time. "I liked the way we played in the first two periods," said Rangers coach Alain Vigneault. "I thought it was a hard-fought first 40 minutes by both teams. "Not quite sure what happened there in the third." New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist and the Kings Jonathan Quick both lived up to their reputations on the night, with Quick busy early and Lundqvist late in an entertaining end-to-end game. "He was the reason why we went to overtime," Vigneault said of Lundqvist. "I mean, he gave us a chance. When you get to overtime, a lot of times its a bounce, its a shot. Tonight they got it." "Our best player tonight," Sutter said of Quick. The Rangers managed 25 shots in regulation time. The shots were 2-2 in OT. "Quick didnt have many saves in the third period, but he had some Grade-A ones," said Williams. The Kings registered 13 straight shots in the third before the Rangers finally forced Quick into action 11 minutes 58 seconds into the period. The Kings werent good early on. New York, which had been off since disposing of Montreal last Thursday, came out buzzing. The speedy Rangers played with a purpose after the puck dropped. It was like little brother taking it to big brother -- they scored some knockdowns but eventually the bigger Kings began to claw back control. The Kings, who edged the Blackhawks in overtime Sunday in Chicago to win the Western Conference crown, finished with 455 hits to the Rangers 33.dddddddddddd "They come at you hard," said Vigneault. "When you make a play, you got to be willing to take the hit to make the play. Thats something we knew coming into the series. "I thought for 40 minutes we handled it real well. Not quite sure what happened in the third there." New York -- the best road team in the East this season with 25 wins -- had two good scoring chances in the first three minutes. Quick had to poke-check Chris Kreider to end one threat and then stopped Hagelin from in front after a giveaway. It was an entertaining start, albeit a sloppy one. Quick was a busy man as the Rangers probed for an opening. New York went ahead at 13:21 when Doughty tried to be cute at the New York blue-line, attempting to drag the puck past an onrushing Ranger and lost possession. Things went from bad to worse when defence partner Jake Muzzin fell down and Pouliot scored to the stick side on the ensuing breakaway. The Rangers made it 2-0 the penalty kill at 15:03 as the Roadrunner-like Hagelin outraced Slava Voynov and headed to goal. Quick made the save but the puck bounced in off Voynovs skate for Hagelins seventh of the playoffs. While the bounce was unfortunate, it was the Rangers second scoring chance on the penalty. Hagelin, who also scored on the penalty kill against Montreal, is the sixth player in Rangers history to record more than one short-handed goal in one playoff year and the first since Mark Messier scored two in 1992. Los Angeles pulled one back at 17:33 on a good forecheck. Derek Stepan failed to clear the puck, turning it over and the Kings crashed the net, with Clifford jamming it in top shelf to revive the Staples Center crowd. It was Cliffords first post-season goal since April 23, 2011, snapping a 37-game playoff drought. The Kings outshot the Rangers 14-13 in a first period that belonged to the visitors. Doughty made up for his earlier turnover with a sweet goal that featured almost the same move that tripped him up before. Taking a nifty Williams backhand pass, a trailing Doughty toe-dragged the puck between his legs to evade Derek Dorsett and then snapped a shot through Lundqvists legs for his fifth of the playoffs at 6:36. While Doughty put on the brakes to score from in close, two Rangers and two Kings jostled on the other side of Lundqvist. It was Doughtys 17th point of the post-season, breaking the club record for a defenceman he set two years ago. Clifford made a fine pass to trigger the attack. On the bench, rugged Kings defenceman Matt Greene got treatment for a nasty gash by his left eye that looked like someone had taken a box-cutter to him. The game was getting nasty with Doughty complaining bitterly he had been butt-ended. Later in the game, he got a penalty for embellishment. The shots were 22-21 for the Rangers after 40 minutes. Both teams have travelled marathon journeys to get here. The Kings played 21 games, a league-record maximum, while the Rangers saw action in 20. The record for most playoff games in a single season is 26, set by the 1987 Philadelphia Flyers and 2004 Calgary Flames. The most by a Cup winner is 25, by the 2006 Carolina Hurricanes and 2011 Boston Bruins. Los Angeles finished 10th overall in the league during the regular season with 100 points, four ahead of No. 12 New York. The Kings are looking to win their second Cup in three seasons while the Rangers are after their first championship in 20 years. It was the Kings first playoff OT win at home since May 6, 2001, against Colorado. NOTES: Celebs at the game included Will Ferrell, Kate Bosworth, Jon Hamm, Ellen Page, Jim Carrey, Matthew Perry, Steve Carell, David Boreanaz, Kevin Connolly, Larry David, Catherine Keener, Spike Jonze, and Flea and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. wholesale jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

PHILADELPHIA -- The Braves followed a familiar pattern -- using timely hitting and stingy pitching -- to complete a four-game sweep of Philadelphia. B.J. Upton tripled and drove in two runs Sunday to lead streaking Atlanta to a 3-2 victory over the Phillies and their first four-game sweep in Philadelphia in 50 years. Gerald Laird had two hits with a double and RBI for the Braves, who won for the sixth time in seven games while ending their road trip 8-3. Atlanta avenged a three-game sweep by Philadelphia June 16-18 at Turner Field. "We had timely hitting and the pitching was really good," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "You cant ask for more than that." It was the Braves first four-game sweep in Philadelphia since Sept. 24-27, 1964, when the franchise was in Milwaukee and their four wins at Connie Mack Stadium contributed to the Phillies infamous season-ending collapse that year. Marlon Byrd hit a pair of solo home runs for the slumping Phillies, who have lost eight of 10 to drop to 10 games under .500. "It didnt go our way," Phillies slugger Ryan Howard said. "The ball didnt bounce our way. It just wasnt meant to be for us in this series." Chase Utley singled in the seventh inning for his 1,500th career hit. Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman greeted Utley with applause and a pat on the back, and the crowd of 33,215 gave the Phillies second baseman a standing ovation. There wasnt much else for the home fans to cheer. Philadelphia dropped to 18-27 at Citizens Bank Park and fell to 7-35 when scoring three runs or less as the offence continued to struggle. The Phillies were 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position, finishing the series 3 for 32. "Hitting in the clutch and hitting with men on base is a component we have to get better at," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. "We came up short in this series. It couldve been a big point for us." Aaron Harang (7-6) got the victory despite allowing 11 hits in seven innings. He gave up two runs, struck out four and walked two. "Harang battled through some tough innings, gave us a great effort," Gonzalez said. "Hes a wily vet." Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless ninth, but had to work out of a jam for his 24th save in 28 opportunities. Kimbrel got the first two batters out before consecutive singles by Ben Revere and Jimmy Rollins put runners on first and third for Utley. But Utley flew out to right to end the game. "This was a heck of a series," Upton said. "We really played well. Nobody really tried to do too much. It was a little out of character for us not hitting a lot of home runs, but it all came together for us. Now we just have to keep grinding." David Buchanan (4-4), making his eighth start in place of injured left-hander Cliff Lee, allowed three runs on five hits and five walks in five innings to snap his three-game winning streak. The Braves went ahead 2-0 in the second on Uptons two-run triple off the wall in centre. Harang scored on the play after singling to centre with two outs. The pitcher had been 1 for 25 on the season before the hit. After the first of Byrds two solo homers brought Philadelphia within 2-1 in the bottom of the frame, Lairds RBI double plated Tommy La Stella to push Atlantas advantage back to two runs. It was the fourth extra-base hit in the last three games for La Stella, who had two doubles and a triple in Saturdays doubleheader. In the bottom of the frame, Byrd homered into the Philadelphia bullpen to make it a one-run game again. The Phillies threatened in the sixth when they put runners on first and second with nobody out. But Koyie Hills sacrifice bunt attempt resulted in the lead runner being forced out at third, and pinch-hitter John Mayberry Jr. grounded into an inning-ending double play. Philadelphia had runners on first and third with one out in the seventh when Howard grounded into another inning-ending double play. NOTES: Justin De Fratus pitched a scoreless sixth inning to extend his scoreless innings streak to 17. ... Braves catcher Evan Gattis didnt play for the third straight game after having back spasms striking out swinging in the first inning on Friday. Gattis will be reevaluated when the club returns to Atlanta on Monday. ... It was Byrds seventh career multihomer game. ... The Phillies have Monday off before beginning a three-game series at Miami on Tuesday with RHP A.J. Burnett (5-7, 3.89) opposing Marlins RHP Henderson Alvarez (5-3, 2.32). ... Thats one for every win. The beer baths, champagne toasts, selfies, and photo opps in Victory Lane are almost routine now for Junior. He added a new wrinkle at Pocono, a broom. Earnhardt hoisted the broom high over his head after he completed a season sweep at Pocono Raceway, the third win in a season that has served as a career renaissance for NASCARs most popular driver. Earnhardt now holds the No. 1 seed in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. Can he keep the momentum headed into NASCARs version of the playoffs? "Youre the broadcaster," Earnhardt teased crew chief Steve Letarte about that question. "You dont," the departing Letarte said. "Youre too far from the Chase." The legion of Junior Nation fans roared when Earnhardt stormed ahead of the pack off the final restart with three laps left for the lead. His third win, he also won the Daytona 500, tied him for the most in Sprint Cup this season. Earnhardt held off the hard-charging Kevin Harvick to become the first driver to sweep both races at the track since Denny Hamlin in 2006. He tweeted "Lookin for a broom" last week when he landed in Pocono. He found one in Victory Lane. "This group all really enjoys each other," Earnhardt said. "We want to see everybody happy." They had tons of fun inside the Pocono media centre. Letarte acted hurt when his nameplate didnt have the same three winners stickers that were on Earnhardts card. Earnhardt also brought a Make-A-Wish Foundation teen to the podium and made sure hed have his own namecard and stickers. "This is my buddy, Chris. Does he get one," Earnhardt said. They all got their stickers -- the same ones applied to the No. 88 Chevrolet. Earnhardt also became the fifth straight Hendrick Motorsports driver to win at Pocono. Owner Rick Hendrick was not at the race, though he did talk to his winning driver on the phone on pit road. "I told him thanks for believing in me and making my life better," Earnhardt said. Earnhardts sweep followed Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson last year and Jeff Gordon in the August 2012 race. Earnhardt has his most wins since he won six times in 2004. His three wins are one shy of his combined total from 2005-2013. His win Sunday was the 22nd of a career still without a Cup championship. "We had a fast car all day," Earnhardt said. "Steves strategy was perfect at the end. I dont know if anyone knew what was going on there, but it was pretty awesome." Earnhardt said before the race his No. 88 Chevrolet was better than his winner in June. They were both fast enough to take the checkkered flag.dddddddddddd He had a bit of luck in his first win when debris slowed down race leader Brad Keselowski. On Sunday, no one could touch Earnhardt over the final 14 laps. "We were determined to go home from the last win and improve the car," he said. Earnhardt and Letarte are clicking in their final season together. Hendrick Motorsports named Greg Ives the crew chief for 2015 once Letarte heads to the broadcast booth. "I think hes going to make me look bad," Letarte said. "Mr. Hendrick has a remarkable talent of matching drivers with crew chiefs." Harvick, who clinched a spot in the Chase, was second, followed by Joey Logano, Clint Bowyer and Greg Biffle. Gordon finished sixth a week after he won the Brickyard 400. He led a race-high 63 laps and passed 24,000 career laps led in the No. 24 Chevrolet and 1,000 laps led at Pocono. He still holds a 17-point lead over Earnhardt in the standings. Earnhardt would have the No. 1 seed because he was one more win than Gordon. Earnhardt, who swept a track for the first time since Talladega in 2002, had few cars left to hold off on the lead lap after several potential contenders got knocked out. Hamlin triggered a 13-car wreck with 43 laps after he got sideways coming out of a turn. Brian Vickers tried to avoid Hamlin and slammed into Matt Kenseth to send cars all over the track. The pileup looked like a "Big One" straight out of Talladega or Daytona, with smoking, dented and destroyed cars littering the track. Tony Stewarts No. 14 Chevrolet rested atop Paul Menards No. 27 Chevy. "I cant drive it because my car is on top of the other car," Stewart said over the radio. Stewart, Vickers, Menard and Matt Kenseth all visited the NASCAR care centre. "Big wrecks are always frustrating when youre in it," Kenseth said. Aric Almirola said he slammed on the brakes as hard as he could, but still got "creamed from behind and pushed into the wreck." Hamlin was able to straighten himself out and stayed out. Kyle Busch topped the lengthy list of stars with an early exit when the No. 18 needed a push to the garage with a variety of issues. Six-time champion Jimmie Johnson finished outside the top 10 for the fourth straight race. He fell a lap down after his rear right tire smacked the wall, rebounded to run fifth, then a second blown tire forced him to the garage. "It wasnt the best weekend but we still gave ourselves a chance at a win, if not a top five, today and came up a little short," Johnson said. His teammate carried the Hendrick banner all the way to victory. "After last year, I thought the only thing were not doing is winning," Earnhardt said. Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hello Kerry, Thank you for having a forum such as this. It allows great insight into the world of the pro hockey official. My question concerns the cross check that Blackhawks forward Dan Carcillo laid on Jets forward Mathieu Perreault this weekend. If both of the referees on the ice missed the call on the ice or severity of the hit, could the linesmen not come in and offer up what they witnessed? To this couch official, it looked like Carcillo was deliberate with his intent and it was not just a hockey play as he has explained. Thanks again for the insight Kerry! Bart from Winnipeg Bart: Rule 32.4 provides Linesmen the authority to give their interpretation of any incident that may have taken place during the game and must report (upon completion of the play) any circumstances pertaining to major penalties, match penalties, misconduct penalties, game misconduct penalties, abuse of officials, physical abuse of officials and unsportsmanlike conduct. NHL linesmen do a very good job in the specific duties which they are typically called upon to perform. I submit however, with no intended disrespect for their professional capabilities, linesmen are not used to making judgments on penalty infractions. To step up and make a call on what they perceive as a major infraction when two referees dont, takes a giant leap of faith and conviction that they saw the play 100 per cent accurately. Once a linesman lays it all on the line he owns the call including any subsequent fallout from his superiors if dont support his judgment. On this play both linesmen were pretty much looking through the back of Daniel Carcillo when he delivered a short but forceful cross-check from behind Mathieu Perreault to a minimally protected area of the players arm and back. As such, they likely would not have recognized the severity of the blow. The best sightline would have been gained by the referee in that end zone and on the opposite side of the ice if he was dialed in on the play. A major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee based on the severity of the contact, shall be imposed on a player who cross-checks an opponent (59.3). Additionally, when a major penalty is assessed for cross-checking, an automatic game misconduct penalty shall be imposed on the offending player (59.5). Based on the late time frame, the severity and location of contact delivered from behind to an unsuspecting player which resulted in an injury, Carcillo should have been assessed a major and game misconduct. As much as I like Daniel Carcillo, this was not a typical hockey play but an illegal stick infraction for the purpose to inflict punishment on an opponent. Bart, the final assessment of penalties on this play once again highlights flaws in the positioning philosophy employed by many referees. Less than optimum positioning creates poor sightlines and when combined with puck watching a lack of awareness to potential hot-button issues on and away from the puck can often result. The box score and the arena P.A. announcement cited Mark Scheifele of the Jets for slashing the stick out of Duncan Keiths hands on the initial infraction as opposed to Perreault. The box score also lists Carcillo as cross-checking Scheifele versus Perreault. Even though Perreault was injured on the play and would be unable to serve the penalty, it would be recorded against him and designated as served by another player if Perreault had in fact been assessed the penalty. It appears that was not the case and certainly created some reasonable speculation on the TSN broadcast that the play was not witnessed correctly by the referees. As the still camera shot demonstrates in the setup of this play Duncan Keith and Perreault (circled in red) are in pursuit of the puck that has been thrown around the end boards toward the corner. The linesmen are in perfect position where they should be near the blue line. The referees are not! The ref down low is too deep in the corner below the goal line with his legs stiff as opposed to flexed and ready to drive at least half toward the net to gain a better perspective as the puck moved to the opposite corner. From this location the low ref is primarily responsible for action around the puck and did not react to the stick being slashed out of the Keiths hands by Perreault as a result of an obstructed view created by the goal. The back referee is also poorly positioned at the far Jets blue line when the puck is deep in the Hawks zone and below the goal line. He should have been located near the neutral zone face-off dot just outside the Hawks blue line. Instead, from this lengthy distance the back referee eventually raised his arm to call a slashing penalty to a Jet player for knocking Keiths stick out of his hands. Perreault was subsequently shoved by Keith at the side wall but managed to one-touch the puck toward the corner prior to being cross-checked from behind by Carcillo. I have to believe that the low referee visually followed the path of the puck into the corner and did not catch the cross-check. Putting positioning flaws aside for a moment, Dan Carcillo is a high energy player and as such deserves some special awareness from the referees whenever he (and any player prone to his aggressive style of play) is on the ice. A heightened focus of attention should be directed toward the finish of checks (late) and especially when previous incidents in the game caused player hostilities to escalate and resulted in aggressive play. This game had an edge to it from early in the first period when Bryan Bickell laid out a couple of Jets with hard legal body checks. Bickell was attacked and a fight instigated by Anthony Peluso immediately following the second hit delivered by the big Hawks forward just 5:29 into the game. From that moment on it should be apparent to the refs (and every couch official watching), that the soup had the potential to boil over. Perfect positioning and heightened awareness are required to bring the temperature down whenever necessary. Authentic Chris Mullin Jersey .C. -- J.B. MOBILE, Ala. -- Arkansas State was down to an interim coach, a backup quarterback and less than a minute remaining in the game. None of it fazed the Red Wolves, who are used to a little bit of post-season adversity. Allen Muse caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Fredi Knighten with 32 seconds remaining to lift Arkansas State past Ball State 23-20 at the GoDaddy Bowl on Sunday night. Ball State had a chance to tie at the end of regulation, but Scott Secors 38-yard field-goal attempt was blocked by Ryan Carrethers as time expired. For a second straight season, Arkansas State shrugged off a coaching change to win the GoDaddy Bowl. Arkansas State lost coach Bryan Harsin to Boise State in December. Hes the latest in a string of three ASU coaches, including Hugh Freeze (Mississippi) and Gus Malzahn (Auburn), who have left the program for a more high-profile job. John Thompson was the teams interim coach for a second straight season, and the veteran defensive co-ordinator led a staff that managed to cobble together a workable offence with Knighten, who replaced injured starter Adam Kennedy in the second quarter. Thompson was not retained by new coach Blake Anderson -- the former North Carolina offensive co-ordinator who is Arkansas States fifth head coach in five seasons -- but is confident he left the program in good hands. Despite all the coaching changes, Arkansas State has won 28 games over the past three seasons, turning into one of the Sun Belt Conferences best programs. "Arkansas State is not just that little football team up there in northeast Arkansas," Thompson said. "Arkansas State should now have a national brand. I dont think there were many other football games going on tonight. There are a lot of good things about (this win)." Knighten rescued Arkansas States offence on Sunday after Kennedy left the game in the second quarter with a knee injury, finishing with 115 yards passing and 97 yards rushing. Muse, who considered quitting football following his fathers suicide three years ago, wound up with the biggest catch of the night just five plays after Ball State scored what appeared to be the decisive touchdown. "Im extremely blessed," Muse said. "Its really hard to put into words what this means." Ball State (10-3) went ahead 20-16 with 1:33 remaining on a 1-yard touchdown run by Jahwan Edwards, but couldnt hold the lead. Edwards finished with a game-high 146 yards rushing, but had to watch as Arkansas State rallied for the win. "Its not over until the times over," Edwards said. "Its hard to swallow." Keith Wenning capped his Ball State career with 215 yards passing, one touchdown and one interception. Hes the first Ball State quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards in a season. Arkansas State moved the ball well throughout the third quarter, but had to settle for two short field goals to take a 16-10 lead. It nearly came back to haunt them. But Knightens clutch throw to Muse proved to be the difference. Ball State still had a chance to tie. The Cardinals drove downfield -- and with the help of a 15-yard personal foul penalty on Arkansas States Andrew Tryon for a late hit -- lined up for the 38-yard field goal with 2 seconds left. But it never got past the line of scrimmage, smacking off Carrethers hands and setting off an Arkansas State celebration that quickly spilled onto the field. "It was crazy," Carrethers said. "Ive never experienced anything like that. To put everything on the line and then come through like that -- it was an amazing feeling. I couldnt have written it any better." Ball States normally prolific passing offence struggled early in the game. Wenning missed on four of his first five pass attempts -- and also took a vicious hit on a sack by Rocky Hayes. "When we pressured him, our guys brought some steam," Thompson said. "Just hitting him. (Quarterbacks) dont like to get hit." Edwards rushed for 92 yards in the first half, including 44 yards on a 14-play drive that ended with Wennings 9-yard touchdown pass to Willie Snead. It helped Ball State push out to a 10-3 lead by late in the second quarter, but Arkansas State responded with its own long drive just before halftime, capped by Sirgregory Thorntons 1-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 10. Wenning, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior, holds just about every passing record in Ball State history, but struggled in his finale. He completed 23 of 44 passes. "The seniors and the rest of the team -- thats who Im hurting for right now," Wenning said. jerseys from china . </br></br> Apparently this took place at a soccer stadium for a club match in Brazil. wholesale jerseys . BROSSARD, Que. -- The tight games and nastiness between old rivals Montreal and Boston is coming to a Game 7 climax. The best-of-seven NHL Eastern Conference semifinal has the Canadiens and Bruins tied 3-3 going into a final showdown in Boston on Wednesday night. Listen to the game live on TSN Radio 690 and TSN.ca/Montreal. The Canadiens staved off elimination by using a high-tempo approach for a 4-0 victory in Game 6 on Monday night in Montreal. And while much of the attention has been on disrespectful words, gestures and the odd spear to the groin area, Canadiens veteran Daniel Briere feels his team will have to stick to fast-paced hockey for any chance to topple the leagues first-place overall team. "You cant beat the Bruins playing like the Bruins," Briere said Tuesday. "I think theyre probably the best at (physical hockey). "We have to be smarter. Well have to take punches. Well have to take slashes. Well have to get hurt at times. Thats when were most successful, when we dont get into their game." Its likely that neither side will want to risk penalties in a Game 7 that will send one team on vacation and the other to the conference final, unless the score gets out of hand for one team or the other. But Boston was abuzz with remarks made by Montreals flashy defence ace P.K. Subban after Game 6, in which the teams playoff scoring leader said the TD Garden crowd will provide plenty of energy for the Bruins and "I cant wait to take that all away from them." Subban, who has 12 points in 10 games, also said he gave no credit to the Boston crowd that boos him regularly for making him play better, adding: "I play to win. I dont care if theres nobody in the stands." Briere said Subban, who turned 25 on Tuesday, has learned to thrive on playing the villain in opposing teams rinks. "Lets face it, most of the buildings we go into hes kind of the target," said Briere. "He sticks out. "Hes flashy. He plays with an edge. Hes one of our best players, so he attracts the boos on the road. I think P.K. has become even better as the season went on at dealing with that and using it to his advantage. "Other than screaming at us, theres not much else they can do. If at the end of the night we win, theyre probably going to be very quiet walking home. That would be the ultimate reward for us." The Canadiens and Bruins are facing each other in the playoffs for a record 34th time and this will be their record ninth Game 7. Montreal has won five of them, but the Bruins took the last one on April 27, 2011, when Subban scored the tying goal but Nathan Horton got the overtime winner in a 4-3 Boston victory. Subban scored in overtime in the series opener last week in Boston, and scored on a power play in Game 5 in Boston as the Canadiens mounted a late surge before falling 4-2. The series has seen spears to the groin from both sides, including Andrei Markovs jab at Boston captain Zdeno Chara late in Game 6. In the previous game, the Bruins Shawn Thornton was fined for squirting water into Subbans visor from the bench. Boston bruiser Milan Lucic caused a stir with a display of muscle flexing, only to have Montreals Dale Weise do it back to him. "Theres a lot of that going on with their team, their players, even their fans," said Montreal forward Brandon Prust. "They can throw as much disrespect as they want. "It doesnt really bother us at all. That was just (Weise) giving a little bit back and mocking them a little bit. Its not a big deal." Prust does not expect fireworks. "If it was the regular season, Im sure it would carry over, but this is Game 7," he said. "What are we going to do? Go out there and slash them and punch them in the head, take stupid penalties? "Not at all. Well focus on winning a hockey game and not taking dumb penalties." The Canadiens stayed alive with what coach Michel Therrien called their best game of the playoffs so far. He saw Max Pacioretty, with a goal and an assist, and Thomas Vanek, with two goals, deliver the points expected of top-line players. He also got a 26-save shutout from a highly focused Carey Price. And his move to replace slow-footed Douglas Murray with skilled and quick-skating rookie Nathan Beaulieu worked to perfection as the 21-year-old was plus-2 in limited ice time. "We played a hell of a game," said Therrien. "The only thing weve got to do is reset, refocus and make sure weve got another good game (on Wednesday)." The Canadiens have not been to a conference final since 2010, when goalie Jaroslav Halak backstopped them to upsets of Washington and Pittsburgh before they fell to the Philadelphia Flyers. The Bruins hope to reach the conference final for the third time in four years. They won the Stanley Cup in 2011 and lost in the final to Chicago last spring. "Weve felt confident all series against these guys," said Montreal captain Brian Gionta. "(Monday) night was definitely a great effort, but weve had efforts like that already in this series. "The hope is to go in there and have that same effort. And hopefully, the pressures on them." Dennis Schroder Hawks Jersey . The Raptors went 1-3 during a season-long homestand last week and their upcoming schedule doesnt do them any favours.
