LONDON -- The Netherlands had a disappointing start to qualifying for the European Championship and fellow World Cup team Bosnia-Herzegovina was stunned by Cyprus in Tuesdays biggest upset. Gylfi Sigurdsson doubled the lead in the 76th minute and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson completed the scoring a minute later. ------ GROUP B: Wales needed two goals from star winger Gareth Bale to avoid a massive upset against Andorra, coming from behind to win 2-1 in the tiny principality. Cyprus did manage a shock in the other Group B game, beating Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1 after the host missed a late penalty. Wales is hoping to reach its first major tournament since 1958 after UEFA expanded the Euro 2016 field to 24 teams but got off to a poor start when Ildefons Lima put the hosts ahead with a penalty in the sixth minute. It was Andorras first goal in a competitive game in four years. But Wales fought back on a poor artificial pitch as Bale headed in a cross from Ben Davies in the 22nd minute. The Real Madrid star then scored the winner with a dipping free kick in the 81st minute. Cyprus staged a similar comeback, with Dimitris Christofi scoring twice after Bosnia took the lead through Vedad Ibisevic in the sixth minute. Christofi beat goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to a cross and headed in the equalizer just before halftime. With Bosnia pushing for a winner, Cyprus struck on the counterattack as Christofi came one-on-one with Begovic and calmly slotted in the winner to stun the fans in Zenica. BEREA, Ohio - Browns Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon has pleaded not guilty to a speeding ticket. Jean-Sebastien Giguere Jersey . Richards (5-2) bounced back from a terrible outing in his last start when he allowed five runs while getting only two outs. It was the shortest non-injury-related start of his career. WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were back on the field Monday for the first time since they fell 26-3 to the Edmonton Eskimos last week, their first loss of the season, and with five quarterbacks throwing balls it looked at times like training camp all over. The Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers are the two worst teams in the NHL, and the Sabres are certainly deserving of that distinction as theyre mired in the longest losing streak in franchise history. Arsenal (Last Week- 2) The Gunners reclaimed the top of the table with a 4-1 victory over Norwich City. Mesut Ozil was strong once again for Arsenal as he took a turn as provider instead of facilitator with two goals in the match. Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere also both scored high quality goals. 2. Chelsea (LW- 3) A David Luiz mistake put Chelsea behind, but a strong response led them to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Cardiff City. Samuel Etoo was allowed to score a controversial goal that turned out to be the winning marker, an Eden Hazard brace and a goal from Oscar provided the rest. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for berating an official. 3. Manchester City (LW- 4) Sergio Aguero scored twice and David Silva added a late insurance marker as City cruised to a 3-1 victory over West Ham. Alvaro Negredo had another strong game as he continues to build a dangerous partnership with Aguero. The victory moves Manchester City into the top four of the table. 4. Liverpool (LW- 1) Daniel Sturridge rescued a point for Liverpool after he fired home in the 72nd minute for a 2-2 draw against 10-man Newcastle. Steven Gerrard converted a penalty for Newcastles other marker after Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was shown a red card. 5. Tottenham (LW- 6) Andros Townsend continued his solid play for Spurs as he and Roberto Soldado found the net in a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. Townsends goal was actually meant to be a cross but ended up slipping past Villa keeper Brad Guzan for the opening marker. He almost added to his tally a few more times before the final whistle but in the end settled for a goal and a strong performance. 6. Southampton (LW- 5) Adam Lallana scored in the 89th minute to give the Saints a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Southampton was strong for stretches of the game and in the end walked away with a deserved point from the contest. Keeper Artur Boruc was solid, delivering key saves throughout the game. 7. Everton (LW- Back in the lineup and back on the scoreboard, Steven Pienaar returned after six weeks to give Everton a 2-1 victory over Hull City. Kevin Mirallas opened the scoring in the eighth minute for Everton, Leighton Baines and Sylvain Distin were also strong in the victory. 8. Manchester United (LW- 7) The Champions once again were denied a win at home after a late goal forced them to settle for a 1-1 draw against Southampton. Robin van Persie put his side ahead with a goal in the 26th minute, a lead they held until the 89th when they gave up the equalizer. United is now eighth in the table, eight points out of the top spot. 9. West Bromwich Albion (LW- 11) The Baggies were not able to find a winning marker as they were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against Stoke. Youssouf Mulumbu was denied a penalty shout that could have decided the game if awarded. Nicolas Anelka was brought into the game after the hour mark but he wasnt able to change his teams fortunes. 10. Newcastle United (LW- 13) A back and forth contest left 10-man Newcastle with a 2-2 draw with Liverpool. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was sent off in the 40th minute and though Newcastle took the lead, they werent able to see it through to the end of the game. Yohan Cabaye and Paul Dummett were on target in the draw for Newcastle. 11. Aston Villa (LW- 9) Andreas Weimann came closest to scoring for Villa but thats the best they could do in a 2-0 loss to Tottenham. Christian Benteke came into the game in the 61st minute and also had some influence for the visitors but they werent able to crack the scoreboard. 12. Swansea City- (LW- 14) A dominant home performance led to a 4-0 victory for Swansea over Sunderland. Jonathan De Guzman and Wilfried Bony both scored while the Swans also benefitted from two own goals in the win. 13. Hull City (LW- 10) Yannick Sagbos 30th minute marker was all the Tigers could muster in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Everton. Injury to insult for Hull was losing Danny Graham to a knee injury, he is expected to miss three-weeks of action. Abdoulaye Faye had two chances to grab at least a point for Hull but was not able to find the back of the net. 14. Fulham (LW- 1 After falling behind 1-0, Pajtim Kasamis wonder goal started a comeback that ended in a 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace. Steve Sidwells goal that stood up as the winner was also a highlight reel marker but the Kasami goal is the one that could be goal of the year. West Ham United (LW- 12) The Hammers had trouble dealing with the pace and skill of Manchester City, as they lost at home 3-1. Ricardo Vaz Te scored the only goal for West Ham but was also defensively responsible for Sergio Agueros second which turned out to be the winner. West Ham opened the game strong but in the end just didnt have enough to compete. 16. Stoke City (LW- 15) Stephen Ireland wasted the Potters best chance as they split the points with West Brom in a 0-0 draw. Neither team was able to take control of the game as even the possession numbers were split down the middle at the final whistle. Stokes four goals are the lowest total in the Premier League this season. 17. Norwich City (LW- 17) Jonathan Howsons 70th minute marker cast some doubt into the contest but in the end was not nearly enough in a 4-1 loss to Arsenal. Norwich held out against the pressure from their opponents before giving up two goals in five minutes late in the game that sealed their fate. 18. Cardiff City (LW- 16) After taking a 1-0 lead over Chelsea, Cardiff slumped to a 4-1 defeat thanks to defensive mistakes and a controversial referee decision. Keeper David Marshall was bouncing the ball when he was dispossessed by Chelseas Samuel Etoo leading to the winning goal. Howard hit a grand slam, capping a five-run rally in the eighth inning that lifted the Philadelphia Phillies over the Houston Astros 6-5 on Thursday night. "I knew going in he was going to bury some sliders and I had to keep off the sliders," Howard said. "Bases loaded, I knew at some point he had to give me something to hit. Hes got to give me a strike." Chris Carter hit two homers and drove in four runs for Houston, which lost its eighth straight in Philadelphia. "This was a pretty tough loss," Astros manager Bo Porter said. Carlos Ruiz and Ben Revere each had two hits as the Phillies completed a three-game sweep. Mario Hollands (2-1) pitched two scoreless innings, and Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for his 27th save in 30 chances. Howard connected with two outs on a full-count pitch from Tony Sipp (2-2). "The matchup was what we wanted," Porter said. "He beat the best guy we have down there." Marc Krauss also homered for Houston. Philadelphia trailed 5-1 entering the eighth after Colin McHugh threw seven strong innings for the Astros. Houston reliever Josh Fields gave up hits to three of the four batters he faced, including Cody Asches RBI single that made it 5-2. Sipp allowed a single to Jimmy Rollins to load the bases with one out. After Chase Utley flied out, Howard homered into the seats in left-centre field. "I hit it pretty flush," Howard said. "I got it pretty good. Off the bat, yeah, I pretty much knew. But that wind started kicking up a little bit. I was happy it was enough." Howard pointed to his family after crossing home plate and then took a curtain call. It was the third homer and 11th RBI in 12 games since manager Ryne Sandberg benched the struggling slugger for three games, July 23-25. Howard has endured boos and some negative reaction to comments he had made regarding the treatment he has received. "Its unfortunate, to be honest with you, that thats what happens," Howard said. "But Im going to go out there and continue to play. I understand what it takes to play the game. It wasnt there early, but I just needed it to be there once and it was there for me, so Im going to try to build off that." Howard also drove in the winning run in the Phillies 2-1, 15-inning win over Houston on Tuesday. Sipp and the Astros werent able to keep him down this week. "I hold myself to a high standard, so I have to make sure it doesnt happen again," Sipp said. Carter hit his second homer of the game and 24th of the season, a two-run drive in the third. He leads the majors with 11 home runs since the start of July. TRAINERS ROOM Astros: Reliever Josh Zeid had the first of two foot operations on his right foot on Wednesday, and the Astros deemed it successful. Zeid will have the same surgery on his left foot in six weeks. The right-hander appeared in 23 games this season with a 6.79 ERA in 20 2/3 innings. He last pitched on July 24. ... Outfielder George Springer will rejoin the Astros in Houston on Friday, but his status will be evaluated prior to the game. He was on pace to be activated from the DL (quadriceps), but his return is in question after he left Wednesdays rehab start at Single-A Quad Cities because of discomfort. Phillies: Cliff Lees season officially is over. That was the indication on Wednesday when his locker was cleaned out, and the Phillies made the announcement on Thursday that Lee wont pitch again in 2014 due to a Grade 2 strain of his left elbow. Lee will require rest but not surgery and will begin a throwing program in September or October with the hope that he will be healthy for spring training. UP NEXT Astros: Houston returns home to host intrastate rival Texas on Friday night in a matchup of the teams with the worst records in the AL West. Astros left-hander Brett Oberholtzer (4-7, 4.17) faces right-hander Miles Mikolas (1-4, 7.29). Oberholtzer, in his fourth stint in the big leagues this season, is 4-1 with a 3.08 ERA in his last eight starts. Phillies: Philadelphia hosts the Mets for the first of four on Friday night. Right-hander A.J. Burnett (6-11, 4.16) opposes New York righty Bartolo Colon (10-9, 4.12) in a meeting of veterans who are a combined 78 years old. Two-time Cy Young winner and eight-time All-Star Roy Halladay also will be on the mound for the Phillies, but in a ceremonial capacity. Halladay will throw out the first pitch as the Phillies welcome back former players on alumni weekend. Travelling MAN Phillies starter Sean OSullivan gave up three homers in six innings. He was summoned from Toledo, Ohio, where the Phillies Triple-A team was playing, after Philadelphia traded pitcher Roberto Hernandez to the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier Thursday. OSullivan had started the second game of a doubleheader on June 28 against Atlanta in his only other big league appearance this season. He was just about to take a nap around 1:00 Thursday afternoon when he got the call to catch a plane to Philadelphia. He arrived at the airport around 5:30, but it took him 30 minutes to take the short trip to the ballpark due to rush-hour traffic, giving him about an hour to get ready for a start. He wasnt deterred by the crazy travel schedule though. "I could have shown up at 7:02 and I would have been ready to go," he said. "Im just happy to be here, happy for the opportunity." TOUGH LUCK McHugh was in line for his first victory since June 3 after allowing one run and five hits, striking out eight, and walking none. He is 0-6 in his last nine starts and has a 1.86 ERA on the road overall. "McHugh did a great job but our bullpen wasnt able to hold it together," Porter said. UNUSUAL DOUBLE PLAY Philadelphias Grady Sizemore was involved in an unusual 6-5-6 double play in the second inning. Asche hit a soft liner behind second base where shortstop Marvin Gonzalez was positioned. Sizemore held up at second base to see if Gonzalez would catch the ball, but when it dropped in front of Gonzalez he was caught in no mans land. Gonzalez stepped on second to force out Carlos Ruiz, who was on first, and then got Sizemore out in a rundown. That twin killing was one of six double plays in the game, four of which were converted by Philadelphia to tie a season high. BASES IN GOOD HANDS The Phillies brought out three recipients of the Purple Heart to change the bases after the third inning. Purple Heart recipients Shawn Lees, Bryon Yoder and Carol Eggert changed the bases while receiving a standing ovation from the crowd of 26,609 fans and applause from the Astros and Phillies players. The Ottawa Senators bounced back from a humbling loss and gave their flickering post-season chances a slight spark. When all was said and done Saturday night, the Senators skated off with a 3-2 win at Madison Square Garden that boosted their hopes and delayed any celebration for the host Rangers. "Were just trying to win games," said Senators captain Jason Spezza, whose second-period goal was the winner. "Were trying to build some momentum, win games and play right. "If were winning games, it will be a more enjoyable end of the season." The Senators shook off a 7-4 loss to Montreal on Friday when a 3-0 lead was wiped out by seven straight goals against them. Ottawa is five points behind the second wild card in the Eastern Conference, but the Senators will have to jump over four teams with only four games left to get into the playoffs. "We wanted to have a response just for the morale of the group," Spezza said. "We know its been a disappointing year, we know that we havent reached expectations, but we still have these games left to play so we want to win them." Robin Lehner made 41 saves and held off a furious late push by the Rangers, who still need one point to secure a playoff spot.
