Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. https://www.cheapavalanche.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Stitched Avalanche Jerseys . This week they discuss the goalie fight fascination, the end of the line for Anthony Calvillo, Canadas flag-bearer and the rodeo that has become the Edmonton Oilers. Bruce Arthur, National Post: My thumb is up to the Edmonton Oilers, because you cant be too careful these days. No sir, you have to watch out, especially when you are in year eight of a rebuild that has produced: three No. 1 overall picks, three other top-10 picks, five head coaches, no playoff appearances, public money for a new arena, an estimate that the franchise has nearly doubled in value, and one Kevin Lowe, who is currently the franchises president of hockey operations. So when a guy tows a sign that reads “Kevin Lowe must go” in multicoloured letters outside your office, youd better call the police, which you did, in case it turned violent. Because thats not a humiliating indication of a bunker mentality shared by a franchise whose treatment of its fans borders on a prank at this point. Right? Dave Naylor, TSN Radio: My thumb is up to Anthony Calvillo, who made it official this week by announcing his retirement after 20 CFL seasons. Calvillo leaves the game with his name on most of the CFLs meaningful passing records and is regarded as one of the Leagues all-time greats. But what stood out about him again this week was his humility and class. Maybe it came from his modest upbringing in East L.A. or perhaps his time struggling as a member of the Las Vegas Posse or the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. But Anthony Calvillos greatest asset as a player -- and what we should remember him most for - was the respect he had for the game, his family and his adoptive home of Montreal. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated: Because the simple solution is generally the right one, my thumb is up to the Canadas flag bearer for Sochi, Hayley Wickenheiser. Wickenheiser might have lost the "C" on the ice, but she has not lost her commanding presence in the game, in the country or in the Olympic movement. She is the best player in the history of womens hockey, a three-time gold medalist and now a six-time Olympian, which includes one trip as a softball player. As for the flag-bearer curse … well, as a veteran observer of the SI cover jinx, I say “phooey”. What Wickenheiser carries Feb. 7 will have no impact what might occur in the gold-medal game Feb. 20. Dave Hodge, TSN: My thumb is down to those hockey fans and especially those hockey commentators who were annoyed when they didnt get to see a goalie fight between Peter Budaj and Marc-Andre Fleury. To them, the officials who prevented it did something wrong. Really? Whenever one goalie decides, for whatever reason, or for no reason, to leave his end of the ice, and the other goalie decides to meet him halfway to throw punches, those in charge of the game should stand back and watch? I mean, the NHL looks silly enough for the stuff it doesnt try hard enough to prevent, but the minute it appears to encourage Budaj vs. Fleury, its a midnight beer league. https://www.cheapavalanche.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Avalanche Jerseys China . - The Denver Broncos kept rookie wide receiver Tavarres King from joining the Green Bay Packers by promoting him to their active roster Tuesday. https://www.cheapavalanche.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Custom Colorado Avalanche Jerseys . PARIS -- Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the return leg of the Champions League quarterfinals against Chelsea because of a thigh tear. https://www.cheapairforce1outlet.com/air-force-270-outlet/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Air Force 270 Outlet . Ibrahimovic, who has scored 40 goals this season, is also likely to miss the semifinals later this month if PSG advances. The French club won the first leg 3-1. Ibrahimovic fell to the ground clutching his leg midway through the second half of Wednesdays match and then limped off. PSG said in a statement Friday that tests confirmed "the presence of a muscle lesion" at the back of Ibrahimovics right thigh. "Hes out for the weeks to come. We will have to wait for the doctor to analyze the results," PSG coach Laurent Blanc said. "Its a muscle lesion, delicate but not irreversible. He will be back (in training) with us before too long (and) he will play before the end of the season." Ibrahimovic will likely be replaced at centre forward by Edinson Cavani, who has been unhappy playing in a role wide on the right and now has the chance to play in his preferred role for the next few games. Should PSG qualify next week, it will reach the European Cup semifinals for only the second time. MADRID, Spain -- Atletico Madrid will play crosstown rival Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinals after coming from behind

MADRID, Spain -- Atletico Madrid will play crosstown rival Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinals after coming from behind for a 2-1 win at Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, sending the visitors through 3-1 on aggregate. Air Force 1 Mid Pas Cher . Bilbao had yet to be beaten in 12 games at its new San Mames Stadium, and it appeared set to turn around its 1-0 first-leg loss after Aritz Aduriz scored in the 42nd minute. But as steady rain continued to fall, defending champion Atletico resisted Bilbaos push until Raul Garcia beat goalkeeper Iago Herrerin on a second try in the 54th. Diego Costa scored on the break with four minutes to play to seal a rematch of last years final, when Atletico ended a 14-year winless run against Madrid by winning 2-1 in extra time. "At halftime we talked about being a team made of men," Garcia said. "We had to step up when things were at their worst, and thats what happened." Also, Alexis Sanchez scored twice to help Barcelona rout Levante 5-1 at home and advance 9-2 over two legs. The Catalan club will play either Real Sociedad or third-tier Racing Santander next. Andres Iniesta returned after missing four games for Barcelona. Adriano, Carles Puyol, and Cesc Fabregas added to Alexiss double after Levante went ahead through Loukas Vyntras header that hit Barcelonas Sergio Roberto before going in. The marquee matchup of the quarterfinal round between the defending champion and Bilbao, a 23-time winner, lived up to its billing as the two sides offered a flowing, up-tempo match from start to finish. And given the chances created by both sides, the final score would have been larger if it hadnt been for the superb performances by both goalkeepers. "Thats because we played against a great team," Atletico coach Diego Simeone said. "Football is passion and here (in Bilbao) you can experience football in its purest form. Its incredible how the team feeds off the atmosphere." Diego Costa had the first opportunity 30 seconds into the game, but keeper Iago Herrerin denied him one-on-one. The visitors lost left back Filipe Luis to a leg injury in the 12th, but didnt miss him until the final minutes of the first half when the intense contest swung in Bilbaos favour. After Bilbaos Mikel Rico and Atleticos Garcia had both sent shots inches from the post, Aduriz rose above Diego Godin to head Mikel Balenziagas cross off the turf and into the net. Bilbao pressed to extend its lead with the overall score now level at 1-1, and Atletico goalie Thibaut Courtois had to turn away another Aduriz header and Ricos volley before the respite of halftime. After he had stopped Diego Costa again, Herrerin used a reflex save to deflect Garcias shot, but Garcia was not to be denied seconds later when he whipped in Cristian Rodriguezs cross with a similar left-footed volley. Diego Costa finally bettered Herrerin when he had plenty of time and space to size him up and round him before scoring. The semifinals start next week. Tournament officials said the sisters pulled out because of an injury to Venus lower left leg. Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh Penguins (5) – He was locked in all night, made huge stops on Benoit Pouliot, Raphael Diaz, Ryan Mcdonagh, Carl Hagelin, Rick Nash (twice) but none better than the three saves on Mats Zuccarello. Its a new generation in Detroit, an elder statesman keeps getting it done in New Jersey, Lecavalier struggling, Muzzin and Bartkowski playing bigger roles and more in Scott Cullens latest NHL blog. 1. Its been a tough year for the Detroit Red Wings, not least of all because of injuries. Hey, all teams have injuries, but the Red Wings are heavily-dependent on veteran forwards Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, both of whom have missed time and, at the moment, are both out of the lineup. But, necessity is the mother of invention and the Red Wings have pressed their young forwards into service. Riley Sheahan, Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Jurco (and even a returning-from-injury Darren Helm) have been crucial to keeping the Red Wings treading water as they wait for their star forwards to return. There is an argument to be made that the ever-patient Red Wings might have opened doors sooner for their young players, rather than trot out the likes of Dan Cleary, Jordin Tootoo and Mikael Samuelsson right out of the gate. Sheahan, Tatar, Nyquist and Jurco all played for Calder Cup-champion Grand Rapids in the AHL last season, and all four have made a successful adjustment to the NHL game. Its early in their careers, of course, but they are part of the reason the Red Wings are still within striking distance of a playoff berth, a position that was pretty much unthinkable for a team that hasnt missed the postseason since 1990 and was supposed to have an easier time with their move to the Eastern Conference. 2. Though the New Jersey Devils came up short in Sundays Stadium Series game at Yankee Stadium, Devils RW Jaromir Jagr continued his brilliant season, adding two more assists to give him a team-leading 44 points in 53 games. This is a far cry from Jagr in his peak years, when he was the most productive scorer in the game, by a healthy margin, for more than a decade, but no less remarkable. Jagr is 41-years-old and has a shot to surpass Mark Messier in 2000-2001 as the second-highest-scoring player in a 40-year-old plus season since 1980. (Teemu Selannes 80 points in 2010-2011 seems safe.) On top of those historical numbers, Jagr is also delivering strong possesion numbers, ranked 18th among forwards in Corsi% (minimum 500 minutes). Yes, his game is offensively-slanted, but he remains a beast on the puck in the offensive zone. 3. A veteran forward that is having a harder time of it is Flyers C Vincent Lecavalier, who has two goals and six points in his past 20 games, going back to late November and hes been getting destroyed in puck possession. Most recently, hes been playing with Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn, but all of the Flyers forwards have been faring better without Lecavalier, which is a precipitous decline for a 33-year-old forward, especially one that has four more years remaining on his deal. Somehow, the Flyers are going to have to find a way to make Lecavalier a productive player, whether that means time on the wing, more sheltered minutes or different line combinations. 4. Lightning rookie C Tyler Johnson has been thrust into a more significant role in the absence of Steven Stamkos and, while hes not making anyone forget one of the games premier goal-scorers, Johnson has been great. In the past 25 games, Johnson has played more than 20 minutes per game, with Saturdays hat trick against Colorado giving him 10 goals and 21 points in those 25 games. Johnson was the AHL MVP last season, scoring 65 points in 62 games with Syracuse, so he has the offensive pedigree, and hes moved into a tie with Nathan MacKinnon for the rookie scoring lead, with 34 points in 52 games. The challenge will be figuring out where Johnson fits once Stamkos returns. At this rate, Johnson is going to give Valtteri Filppula plenty of competition for second-line centre minutes. 5. Kings D Jake Muzzin has taken a bigger role on the Los Angeles defence, as the Kings reduce the workload of veteran Robyn Regehr, who has been decidedly at the opposite end of the possession spectrum compared to Muzzin. Regehr is averaging 16:28 ATOI per game in January, his lowest monthly average since February, 2002 (minimum three games) and while Muzzin has put up spectacular possession stats in his career, hes led a rather sheltered existence for the most part. Now, paired with Drew Doughty and taking on tougher assignments, its an opportunity for Muzzin to prove hes worthy of the responsibility. 6. The Boston Bruins knew that they would have to deal with a major loss to their lineup when D Dennis Seidenber suffered a season-ending knee injury, and they are naturally looking for a replacement. Its not easy to trade for top-four defencemen, but the Bruins have assets to move in order to facilitate a deal, if they can find the right match. Potential unrestricted free agents on teams on the outside of the playoff picture include Henrik Tallinder, Tom Gilbert, Andrew MacDonald, Nick Schultz, and ex-Bruins Derek Morris and Mark Stuart, all of whom come with some warts, but its not like Seidenberg was universally-heralded when the Bruins acquired him from Florida in March, 20100. https://www.cheapairforce1outlet.com/air-force-1-red-outlet/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Air Force 1 Red Outlet. Whats interesting about the Bruins current situation is that the defenceman who is rising up to play bigger minutes in Seidenbergs absence is Matt Bartkowski, who was acquired from Florida with Seidenberg. Bartkowski, 25, had played 20 career NHL games prior to this season and is making a modest $650,000 this season, so it was no surprise that he started the year seventh on the depth chart, dressing in four of the first 16 games. But, with Seidenberg out, Bartkowski has played 20:44 per game in January, ranking third on the Bruins behind Zdeno Chara and Johnny Boychuk, and while hes not a possession beast, Bartkowski has held in his own in that ice time, giving the Bruins some time to make a deal and giving them another option on the blueline going forward. Between Bartkowski, Kevan Miller and Torey Krug, the Bruins are getting some mileage out of low picks/undrafted free agents on their blueline. 7. Sabres C Steve Ott is a versatile veteran forward who can play centre or wing and, on a Sabres team full of prospects and cast-offs, that has resulted in a surprisingly prominent role, playing 19:45 per game this season (up from last years career-high 18:33 ATOI) to lead all Buffalo forwards. Ott has spent his time lately on a line with Cody Hodgson, tallying eight points (2 G, 6 A) in the past nine games. Considering Ott is an unrestricted free agent at seasons end, and one that plays the gritty style teams tend to covet going into the playoffs. While Ott does, like all Sabres, tend to get beat up in possession game, and has a team-worst minus-20, some of that is a function of playing way too much, more than he would on a playoff contender. 8. Hurricanes LW Jiri Tlusty was one of the leagues luckiest last season, scoring 23 goals in 48 games, while scoring on 19.7% of his shots while playing with Eric Staal and Alexander Semin on Carolinas number one line. It was natural, then, to expect regression this season and Tlusty obliged, but to a ridiculous degree, scoring four goals and eight points in his first 35 games. Also, naturally, he was no longer skating on the Hurricanes top line. That has changed more recently, however, and Tlusty has seen his ice time head upwards (over 17 minutes per game) in the past four, during which hes scored five points (2 G, 3 A). Considering the Hurricanes top line has a low on-ice shooting percentage, especially compared to last season, which could be regression at work, or could be some room for that trio to finish strong this year, which could make Tlusty surprisingly relevant for fantasy owners, at least as far as forwards with 15 points this season would rate. 9. Hes not a big numbers guy, with one assist in 16 games, but there is reason to keep an eye on Oilers rookie D Martin Marincin, who is the one Edmonton defenceman (with more than 10 games played) to have positive possession numbers. As a result, his ice time is going up, to 18:50 per game in the past seven, and over 19 minutes in each of the past three. For an Oilers team that desperately needs to tilt the ice in the other direction, with so much of it focused on blueline improvement, Marincins development is a small positive. 10. An update on the move of Jets D-turned-RW Dustin Byfuglien, who has been skating at forward for eight games, scoring two goals and four assists, with 23 shots on goal. His ice time is down, as expected, to 19:20 per game, and his shots per game is actually down a bit, to 2.88 per game. For fantasy owners, who get the benefit of Byfugliens eligibility on defence, hes still super valuable. If he can continue to produce as a winger, it may not be as valuable as a 25-minute-per-game defenceman, but its not likely going to get re-visited until the Jets run into trouble. When a team is getting good results, theyre not likely to make major changes. After all, it was practically Claude Noels last gasp as head coach to move Byfuglien forward. FIRST NHL GAMES Joonas Nattinen, C, Montreal - A third-round pick of the Canadiens in 2009, Nattinen has decent size, but has produced middling results in the AHL, 42 points in 127 career games, so he got an opportunity due to injuries, but it was only a cup of coffee against Toronto, playing a total of 1:45 in his NHL debut. Joe Whitney, LW, New Jersey - Listed at 5-foot-6, Whitney is another diminutive forward to come out of Boston College and hes been scoring in the AHL, putting up 88 points in 108 games over the past two seasons. He got a shot on the Devils top line, with Travis Zajac and Jaromir Jagr in his debut, but the 25-year-old was returned to the minors after playing eight minutes against Washington. Philip Varone, C, Buffalo - A fifth-round pick of the Sharks in 2009, Varone wasnt signed by the Sharks, but was signed as a free agent by the Sabres in 2012. Hes put up 120 points in 176 career AHL games, earning his first taste of NHL action, getting more than 11 minutes per game on a line with Brian Flynn and Marcus Foligno. The Vancouver Canucks missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008 and cleaned house, firing GM Mike Gillis and head coach

The Vancouver Canucks missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008 and cleaned house, firing GM Mike Gillis and head coach John Tortorella. Yeezy 350 v2 Static Pas Cher . Off-Season Game Plan examines a Canucks team that actually has enough pieces in place to bounce back next season. Canucks legend Trevor Linden has taken over as team president but hasnt yet filled the openings that he created by firing Gillis and Tortorella, though there has been speculation that Bruins Assistant GM Jim Benning is a front-runner for the gig. As much as the 2013-2014 season was a mess for the Canucks, this team isnt an unmitigated disaster either. There are holes, but holes that can be filled and, even in a down season, the Canucks were a Top 10 possession team. If circumstances were different, perhaps the Canucks would be in position to overhaul the roster, but with no-trade clauses scattered througout the core of their roster, the most reasonable plan of attack for next season is to provide support for the Sedins, Ryan Kesler and a defence corps that is certainly playoff-worthy. "Our goal is to be back in the playoffs next spring as we continue developing this group into a team that can challenge for the Stanley Cup," Linden wrote in a letter to season-ticket holders. There are holes to fill, not least of which is in net, a position that has not been handled in an ideal fashion over the past year. Capable goaltending, improved depth and a sharper power play could be enough for the Canucks to return to the playoffs. So, its possible, but the Canucks have to hire a general manager and coach before getting too bullish on expectations for next season. The good news is that this team is in position to recover quickly if bounces are more favourable for them next season. The TSN.ca Rating is an efficiency rating based on per-game statistics including goals and assists -- weighted for strength (ie. power play, even, shorthanded) -- Corsi, adjusted for zone starts, quality of competition and quality of teammates, hits, blocked shots, penalty differential and faceoffs. Generally, a replacement-level player is around a 60, a top six forward and top four defenceman will be around 70, stars will be over 80 and MVP candidates could go over 90. Sidney Crosby finished at the top of the 2013-2014 regular season ratings at 87.12. Salary cap information all comes from the indispensable www.capgeek.com. Hes not the dominant possession player he was a few years ago, but Kesler remains a strong two-way performer, who faces tough opposition night after night and has scored at least 20 goals in six of the past seven seasons. If Kesler wants to move on, the good news for the Canucks is that he should bring a quality return as a productive player signed to a reasonable contract for two more seasons. One of the most glaring differences with last seasons Canucks, compared to previous incarnations, was that the Sedins (Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin) struggled offensively, both finishing below 0.80 points per game for the first time since 2003-2004. The initital expectation was that they might not get as many offensive zone starts as they did under Alain Vigneault, and they didnt, but still started better than 60% of their shifts in the offensive zone. While they didnt score, and averaged more ice time than ever before, the Sedins remained dominant in the possession game, both on the ice for more than 55.0% of 5-on-5 shot attempts. Poor percentages resulted in a down season, though that could be reason to expect a bounce back, provided that they still have it in them, at 34-years-old, to get back to scoring at previously customary levels. Chris Higgins has found a reliable role in Vancouver, playing tough minutes and contributing secondary offence. He has good speed and, while not a high-percentage finisher, he generates enough shots to be productive. That Brad Richardson ended up playing a career-high 14:54 per game probably wasnt in the Canucks ideal plans for last season and he contributed 11 goals, 23 points, but he was on the low-end of the possession game, an indication that the workload was more than he was accustomed to handling. A three-time 20-goal scorer prior to joining the Canucks, David Booth has scored 26 goals in 134 games with Vancouver and, with declining ice time, hes a candidate for a buyout because teams dont need to pay $4.75-million (Booths 2014-2015 salary) to get this level of production. The argument in favour of Booth would hinge on possession numbers, which have remained strong in Vancouver. That may not be enough. Speedy winger Jannik Hansen took nice steps forward in the previous two seasons, only to fall back last season, when the percentages werent as favourable for him. Theres no need to put unreasonable expectations on him; he can be a very good third-line forward/penalty killer. Last season was disastrous for Alexandre Burrows, who didnt score a goal until his 36th game of the season (then scored his season total, five, in four games) and his point production was at its lowest rate since 2006-2007. On the way to burying Burrows, though, consider that he still had terrific possession numbers -- these things happen when you skate with the Sedins, but not just with the Sedins. It might be difficult to go into next season planning on five-goal Burrows being skating on the top line with the Sedins, but hes due for better percentages, no matter where he fits in the lineup. Part of the Roberto Luongo trade, Shawn Matthias comes to Vancouver as a big tease, for the most part. Hes 6-foot-4 and has scored 26 goals in limited ice time over the past two seasons (an efficiency that slots him between Jordan Eberle and Bobby Ryan in goals per 60 minutes of play), but hes a 26-year-old whose career-high is 24 points. At some point, the production has to be there to fit in a top-six, or even top-nine, spot. With a year left on his contract, next year could be a make-it-or-break-it season for Matthias. Tom Sestito led the league with 19 fighting majors and 213 penalty minutes. Since 2005-2006 (Lockout I), only a couple of Philadelphia Flyers, Riley Cote and Zac Rinaldo, had a season with more than 200 penalty minutes with less time on ice. He also gets routinely destroyed according to possession metrics, so its entirely possible that, if hes going to be on the roster, he doesnt need to be dressed for 77 games, as he was last season. Zack Kassian showed some progress last season, finishing with a career-best 14 goals nd 29 points, and while his possession stats werent anything special, he also started more of his shifts in the defensive zone andhes 23-years-old, so there is room for further improvement. Jordan Schroeder has been battling for a regular spot in the lineup and missed a good chunk of last season with an ankle injury. To this point, his 15 points in 56 career games along with decent (if sheltered) possession numbers should give Schroeder a leg up on the competition for a job next season. Zac Dalpe has played at least 10 NHL games in each of the past four seasons, getting in a career-high 55 games last season, and has 17 points in 96 career games. Hes struggled possession-wise and figures, at best, to be on the fringe of the lineup. Thats not a bad group of returning forwards, but the Canucks could very easily dip into the free agent market to find a proven scorer to boot their top six. One possibility would be to keep Mike Santorelli, who had some success last season, or the Canucks could check out the free agent market for someone like Mike Cammalleri, Milan Michalek or Ales Hemsky -- someone capable of fitting with the Sedins. That doesnt guarantee that everything will be fine, but for a 28-year-old who has played more than 23 minutes a night for each of the past four seasons, Edler is a good bet to produce better numbers next year. Of the four defencemen with no-trade clauses at the top of the Canucks depth chart, Jason Garrison is the one with the big shot, which resulted in 15 power play points last season and has him among the defence goal-scoring leaders the past three seasons but, last season, his possession numbers werent very good. Kevin Bieksa has been a staple on the Vancouver defence since 2005-2006. Hes put up more than 40 points three times and more than 90 penalty minutes five times. He can play tough minutes, and still put up decent possession numbers, and is reasonably-priced for the next couple seasons. These factors would make him desirable as a trade commodity too. The most reliable of Vancouvers defenders, Dan Hamhuis has been taking on progressively tougher matchups since arriving from Nashville. He plays a no-frills game, but that includes limiting shots against, which seems like a good attribute for a defenceman to possess. Scooped off waivers from Chicago, Ryan Stanton took a regular turn on the Vancouver blueline and while it was third-pair work against lower-level competition, he more than held his own. Hes an inexpensive piece to hold down an everyday spot on defence. An undrafted gem, 24-year-old Chris Tanev has been very good and steadily improving in a defensive role, moving up alongside Hamhuis to take on tough defensive matchups last season. Its Tanevs emergence that does more reasonably allow the Canucks to consider moving one of their more established blueliners. Yannick Weber can skate and shoot the puck, but hasnt been able to land more than a fringe role in the league. Hes not bad as an inexpensive seventh defenceman option, since he can offer some value on the power play as well. With this defence core, the Canucks only need to make tweaks around the edges if they are going to make moves in the offseason. Maybe he will be but, at the very least, there should be competition. Presumably Jacob Markstrom might have a shot at that competition, since he has a $1.2-million one-way contract for next season, but even though he has been a highly-touted prospect, the shine on his star has diminished after an .896 save percentage in 47 career NHL games. Hes huge, still just 24-years-old and has a save percentage of .922 in the AHL over 94 games in the past three seasons, so there is some reason for hope, but going into next season with Lack and Markstrom would require serious finger-crossing. Even if the Canucks arent necessarily going to go after a top unrestricted free agent like Ryan Miller or Jaroslav Halak (though they could...), Vancouver could consider a free agent like Jonas Hiller, Brian Elliott or trade for James Reimer. There may be some question to Horvats offensive upside, but little concern about whether he has the game to stick in some role. A first-round pick in 2012, Brendan Gaunce is a big-bodied forward who has scored 92 goals over the past three OHL seasons. If he can skate well enough to keep pace, he may have a chance to challenge for a job too, but some time in the AHL wouldnt hurt. Hip surgery ended Hunter Shinkaruks season early, but hes a skilled winger who has been a finisher in the WHL. Hes not big, so getting stronger and getting a full season next year, ought to be top priorities. Drafted in the first round in 2012, Nicklas Jensen has good size and speed, but didnt do much in the AHL (29 points in 80 career AHL games). However, he played pretty well in 17 games with the Canucks last season. A third-round pick last summer, Cole Cassels took a step forward as a playmaking forward. Hes not as prolific as his dad, Andrew, but Cole has climbed the ladder quickly over the course of a year. Steady blueliner Frank Corrado was a fifth-round pick in 2011 and has played 18 games for the Canucks since. Hes only 21, so Corrado has time to round out his game, but hes not far from challenging for a job with the Canucks. Signed as an undrafted free agent this year, Dane Fox scored 64 goals in 67 games for Erie, after never scoring more than 23 goals and 54 points in an OHL season. If the goal-scoring is for real, and not the product of a powerhouse team, then Fox could be interesting. The Canucks can see if it translates to the AHL next year. Taken in the fifth round of the 2012 Draft, Ben Hutton has good size and had a terrific sophomore season at Maine. His ability to move the puck and join the attack are strengths. Jordan Subban doesnt come with the same pedigree as older brother D P.K. Subban (or G Malcolm Subban), in part because hes small for the position, but can skate and make smart decisions with the puck. Drafted in the fifth round out of Sweden last summer, Anton Cederholm plays for WHL powerhouse Portland and was one of six players with a rating of +40 or better. Hes big and physical, though hasnt shown much offensive game. Pulled off the scrap heap, Joacim Eriksson was a seventh-round pick of the Flyers in 2008, but handled the starters role in the AHL last season. Given the inexperience ahead of him already, hes not likely to be in the picture. He is confident the franchises strides in a turnaround 2013 season will carry over to future success starting this season. Gomes and the Indians completed a $23 million, six-year contract Monday after his breakout performance last season. "It goes into what it means to be in this organization. Youve got younger guys like ourselves just wanting to be here," Gomes said. "Were potentially signing a big amount of our careers. Theres not another place I would want to be with, especially from the top to the bottom here. Its the organization you want to be with." That feeling is mutual, even if Gomes provided a small sample size of the impact he can make behind the plate and with the bat. Assistant general manager Mike Chernoff and others in the front office are impressed with Gomes constant work to better learn Clevelands pitchers so they all find a comfort zone together. Gomes deal includes club options for 2020 and 21 that could bring the total to $42 million over eight years -- or even $48 million with escalators. "This is the organization I want to be with, that actually made it pretty easy," Gomes said before the scheduled opener in rain-soaked Oakland. "Im so thankful for that. My wife and I are excited to be Cleveland Indians for a while now. ... We got a little taste of the post-season last year. Thats what we play for." Gomes hit .294 with 11 homers and 38 RBIs in 88 games last season, his first with the Indians. The Indians went 49-30 when Gomes started, and manager Terry Francona went with Gomes during crucial games down the September stretch. "Its kind of been the motto of my career -- Ive always had to battle. Its not going to stop," Gomes said. "This is a huge blessing getting a contract like this, but now were talking about taking this team to another level." His new deal supersedes a previous one-year contract for 2014. The deal replaces a contract he agreed to in early March calling for a $513,000 salary in the majors and $281,000 in the minors. Gomes receives a $500,000 signing bonus, payable within 30 days of the contracts approval, and salaries of $550,000 salaary this year, $1 million in 2015, $2. Yeezy 350 v2 Noir Et Blanc. 5 million in 2016, $4.5 million in 2017, $5.95 million in 2018 and $7 million in 2019. Cleveland has a $9 million option for 2020 with a $1 million buyout, and if that is exercised the Indians would have an $11 million option for 2021. The options may escalate by up to $3 million each based on MVP voting, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards, and All-Star appearances. "Hes shown us that hes worth this contract," Francona said. "We have that much faith in him, and thats pretty amazing for a young kid with that kind of track record, or lack of track record, for us to buy in that much. So thats a pretty good compliment to him." Negotiations began during spring training. The deal with Gomes will keep Clevelands young core together for years to come. "You hope that these deals are win-win deals," Chernoff said. "They all want to be here. Its an environment, a culture, that people want to be a part of." The 26-year-old -- the first Brazilian-born player in the majors -- began last season at Triple-A Columbus, but after being brought up in April he stayed the rest of the year and was a major contributor as the Indians made the playoffs for the first time since 2007. Gomes was acquired from Toronto on Nov. 2, 2012. "He is the guy that, in spring training as were having these talks with him about a long-term contract, hes putting in more and more time to try to get to know the pitchers to build on where he was last year," Chernoff said. "Hes also a great organizational story. Our scouts worked really hard to identify Yan with Toronto and find a way to get him in a deal." Gomes was set to start and bat ninth in the season opener. Francona expressed his gratitude for the process. "I got a chance to maybe have a little bit of a front-row seat and it was kind of cool," he said. "Because those things just dont happen, in todays game especially, with the amount of dollars were talking about. ... To see them kind of work through it was really interesting. Its kind of a proud moment for our organization, because we got a guy that we really think a lot of tied up for a long time. Hes going to be a big part of what we do." ' ' '

MONTREAL -- If his chin can get through the first few rounds, Lucian Bute has a chance to re-establish his reputation as world

MONTREAL -- If his chin can get through the first few rounds, Lucian Bute has a chance to re-establish his reputation as world class boxer. Nick Bosa Jersey . If he doesnt blow himself out early trying to test that chin, Jean Pascal stands to claim one of the biggest wins of his career. Thats how the scene is set for what promoters are calling the biggest match ever between two Canadian fighters. Bute (31-1) will face Pascal (28-2-1) in the main event Saturday night before more than 20,000 Bell Centre spectators, with a much larger audience watching on the U.S. specialty channel HBO. If the few hundred who turned up for Fridays weigh-in are an indication, those who chant Butes name will drown out fans of the flashy, outspoken Pascal, but all that really counts is what happens in the ring. The 12-round fight is officially for the minor NABF light heavyweight title and a meaningless trinket called the WBC Diamond belt, but much more is at stake for the two former world champions from Montreal whose careers have been mostly idling the last two years. "I feel very good, very confident," Bute, a natural super-middleweight, said after easily making weight at 173.6 points. "My future is in play. "Its the most important fight of my career so far." Pascal was a little over on his first attempt, then took off his tuque and came in right on the 175-pound limit. He put tape over his mouth to avoid saying anything to Bute or the media. The 33-year-old Bute has much to prove. The Romanian-born fighter who moved to Montreal to turn pro in 2003 was often criticized for always fighting in his adopted home and avoiding tough opponents while he held the IBF super-middleweight (168-pound) title from 2007 to 2012. And when he finally left Montreal to defend for the 10th time against power-punching Carl Froch in England, he was destroyed in five rounds, wobbling around with his face a bloody mess as the referee stopped the bout. He was hardly convincing in a close 12-round decision win over Denis Grachev in his only bout since then in November, 2012, although he came away with the NABF title. The question now is whether hell hold up if Pascal connects with an early power punch. "Youll see Saturday night if I have a chin or not, but Im very confident," he said. "In England with Carl Froch, I got a hit a lot and I never went down. I never took a knee and I dont plan to this time either." The Bute-Pascal showdown was originally scheduled for May 25, but was postponed when Bute injured a hand. After surgery to remove bone chips, he feels his hands are in their best shape in years. The 31-year-old Pascal lost a close decision to Froch in England in 2008. Shortly after, he moved up one weight class and beat another Romania native based in Montreal, Adrian Diaconu, for the WBC light heavyweight title. He defended it four times, but hit a wall in a pair of bouts with the wily Bernard Hopkins, who was in his mid-forties. Hopkins slipped and dodged punches and let Pascal wear himself trying to land haymakers and then took over in the late rounds. Their first meeting in 2010 was a draw, and Hopkins got the win and the title by unanimous decision a year later. Pascal has only fought twice since then, both against B-level opponents. He has since sought outside help in the form of boyhood idol Roy Jones Jr. to take his game to another level. They held camp at altitude at the Big Bear resort in California. Bute usually holds training camps in Florida, but stayed in Montreal for this one. While Bute and Pascal waited for their showdown, another Montreal fighter, Adonis Stevenson, jumped to the front of the queue by taking the WBC belt. Stevensons Detroit-based trainer Sugar Hill will be an interested spectator .The winner will become mandatory challenger for the title, although that fight likely wont happen until early 2015. He called the fight a toss-up, and said it should become clear in the first round who will win. "The only question I have is about Bute in a big fight after the Carl Froch fight," said Hill, the nephew of legendary trainer Emanuel Steward. "How he handles that will decide the outcome of the fight and that will be decided in the first round. "I have it in Butes favour if the fight goes longer." The southpaw Bute is the more technically sound of the two and his left uppercut can be deadly. Pascal answers with a brawling style, with plenty of speed and athleticism. Butes trainer Stephan Larouche likes how his fighter has not shown any signs of nervousness or doubt leading into the bout. Of course, he feels Bute will win. "Hes got better abilities and he can adjust the distance way better than Jean Pascal," said Larouche. If the fight goes the distance there will almost certainly be calls for a rematch, although Butes promoter Jean Bedard said he may prefer a rematch with Froch first if he wins. A loss would be crushing for Pascals pride, but he would likely remain in demand because his bouts are always entertaining. Peter Nelson of HBO said airing it on their first boxing show of the year was an easy decision. "These are two elite fighters with a lot at stake, with careers on the line in a certain respect," he said. "Its a great fight in terms of the environment here and the division theyre in. "Weve seen Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev emerge in the same division, so its a hot division with a lot of depth. We think the winner of this fight can emerge in a serious way to be a real player in our long term plans for the network." The co-feature has a 10-round heavyweight clash between Cuban Mike Perez (20-0) and Carlos Takam (28-1) of France. Perez weighed 231.2 while Takam was 256.2. MONDAY Generally a big fan of Air Canada, but fly to Phoenix on Air Canada Rouge. https://www.supersonicsjerseys.com/930s-sam-perkins-jersey-supersonics.html" class="TyTxtSmlC">Sam Perkins Jersey . I always thought Rouge meant red, but apparently it means Seats only kittens can fit comfortably in. Need to work on my French. Arrive at hotel and front desk clerk hands me a large warmed delicious chocolate chip cookie with my key. This is brilliant check-in bribery. I could find a dead body in my room now and be hesitant to complain. Walking through downtown Phoenix, a scalper asks us if we want to buy tickets to the Pro Bowl that night. I laugh like hes Louis C.K. I prefer my football with tackling. TUESDAY The last Super Bowl Media Day I covered was in Jacksonville in 2005. My lasting memory is of two Mexican reporters from Azteca Deportes who asked questions with hand puppets. I arrive at Media Day in Phoenix and among the first people I run into are the same two reporters, with different hand puppets. I quietly wonder if the original puppets got a better offer and jumped to Telemundo. The problem with Media Day is that half the reporters dont seem to actually work in the media. There must be radio stations who hand out passes to contest winners. A couple of guys in the Gronkowski scrum are wearing Patriots T-shirts and asking probing questions like, Gronk, why are you so awesome? Though that is actually better than many of the questions real media ask. I am standing with Seattle punter and Canadian boy Jon Ryan when a reporter sticks his mic in and says: Reporter: You are Canadian, right? Ryan: Yes. Reporter: Do you like pontoon? Ryan: What? Reporter: Do you like pontoon? Ryan: Poutine? Reporter: Yes, poutine. Twenty-nine reporters ask Marshawn Lynch questions, all getting the exact same answer, Im only here so I dont get fined. I want to ask the 29th guy if he thought his question was so good, it would make Lynch sit up straight and say, Brilliantly posed sir! This one I must answer, thoroughly and eloquently! I am impressed (confused?) with the fans who buy tickets to sit in the stands during Media Day to watch...scrums. There are a couple of hundred Seahawks faithful who cheer madly every time Russell Wilson has a good answer. Some even scream during the Patriots availability, making me wonder if they are trying to affect Brady and his offences ability to hear the questions. They take this 12th man thing seriously. WEDNESDAY Fourteen more questions without answers for Lynch. Give up the dream people. You are not getting him to open up about his childhood and cry for you. Eat dinner at Lo-Los Chicken and Waffle House in Scottsdale, highly recommended by Deion Sanders. I assume the name means waffles for breakfast, and chicken as a specialty for dinner. I am wrong. It means fried chicken and waffles, together, for every meal. Broccoli is not allowed within 10 miles of the place. It is a bylaw, I believe. I order the Tre-Tre because it sounds like it gives me street cred. It has two drumsticks and one giant waffle with an ice-cream sized scoop of butter. It is delicious. I have no regrets. THURSDAY I have quadruple bypass surgery. FRIDAY NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell holds his annual State of the Union news conference. The union has issues. Goodell sidesteps every question like a Russell Wilson scramble. One reporter asks, roughly, Any other employee who had a year like you did would have been fired or resigned by now. Why havent you been fired or resigned? Boom. I cant see the reporter who asks it because there are about 1,000 people in the room, but I quietly hope it is one of the Mexican hand puppets. Goodell just keeps digging himself a deeper hole. I have had numerous issues with Gary Bettman over the years (cough...TV rights...cough), but he makes himself available much more than once every four months. Plus he answers questions, even if you dont always like the answers. A Roger Goodell interview is the same as a Marshawn Lynch interview, just with more and fancier words. SATURDAY I am standing in the bleachers behind the 16th hole at the Phoenix Open, the craziest golf tournament the planet has ever known. The most fruitless job in sport belongs to the volunteers who ask the crowd for silence before players hit their tee-shots on 16 at Phoenix. They scream, cheer, boo, chant, and mostly drink, through every shot. You hit one tight, its a football stadium celebrating a game-winning touchdown for the home team. You miss the green, its the same crowd after the ref called the touchdown back. PGA Pro Jon Rahm wears an Arizona State football jersey for his tee-shot. The crowd goes nuts. Then he hits it long to the back of the green, and they boo him relentlessly. The 16 Bleacher Creatures chant every chant ever used in American sport. Examples: -USA! USA! for every American player, and some Euros who they believe are American because they have had 17 Budweisers. -The Atlanta Braves Tomahawk Chop chant...for no explicable reason. -Bald spot! Bald spot! As Phil Mickelson strolls towards the green. You need to put 16 bleachers on your bucket list. Just dont bring your kids. This tournament is basically the worlds largest nightclub. Except it opens at 7am. Women show up in heels and cocktail dresses. And leave covered in mud. There are more than 100,000 people on the course the day Im there. I figure about 10,000 are watching golf. I always thought the Phoenix Waste Management Open is a terrible sponsor name. But in my three hours there, I see two fights, a couple of guys throwing up, and one young lady (in heels) passed out in the mud. The sponsor name, in retrospect, is perfect. SUNDAY The Auxiliary Press Box is one of the sections at the top of the stadium. We are in the last row of media, with an entire section of Patriots fans right behind us. Chris Schultz makes a point of telling them he picked the Pats to win. Which he did, though he would have told Seahawks fans the same thing if they were behind us. Avoiding getting beer poured on his head is one of Schultzys many strengths. The game is great, but you all saw that, so Ill skip the details. Im a mile from the stage for the halftime show. In fact, from my vantage point it almost looks like Katy Perry is dancing with sharks! Lol. As if. No choreography would be that drunk. (Unless they were at the golf tournament all weekend.) When you cover the game, you always watch the end from the bowels of the building, in a Disney ride-like line-up to get on the field. I have never seen a group of media gasp the way they did when the Seahawks threw on that last play. Even the hand puppets said, Holy S***! (In Spanish) We interview Patriots corner Brandon Browner, who says...what we all are saying, What were those guys thinking? When my alarm goes off at 4am for my flight home, I ask the same thing of myself. By the way, I have now covered three Super Bowls. All Patriot victories. Lost in the bedlam of the Eskimos 2-9 start to the season is quarterback Mike Reillys encouraging first year as a fulltime starter in the CFL. Through the first 11 games of the season, Reillys stats rank amongst the league leaders. His 19 touchdown passes are tied for third behind only Darian Durant and Henry Burris, and his 2,667 passing yards are fourth with Durant, Burris, and Travis Lulay ahead of him. Adding in rushing numbers and Reilly has accounted for 3,197 total yards on offence, second behind only Burris astounding 3,774. Injuries have sapped the numbers of some other usual suspect league leaders this year but the point is Reilly is right with those guys statistically in just his first year as a starter. The one stat he falls well behind in however is team wins. No other position is evaluated by victories more than the quarterback, so you could make the argument Reilly is woefully underperforming based on the most significant stat affixed to him thiss year: two, the number of wins hes led the Eskimos to through 12 weeks. https://www.supersonicsjerseys.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Cheap Supersonics Jerseys. But while there are no moral victories in professional sports, Reilly and the Esks have been close on at least a couple occasions. And, the tumult being well documented with the Eskimos this year, the 28-year-old Central Washington alum should get a pass for not being able to singlehandedly turn the team into a contender. After all hes a first-year starter still perfecting his three-down game and not a grizzled vet brought in to lead a culture change in Edmonton. That Reilly continues to compete and deliver, upholding his end of the bargain while not everyone around him does the same, is impressive in its own right. The Eskimos have a long list of things to do before theyre once again a contender in the West Division, but finding a franchise quarterback isnt one of them. The Rouge asks: Is Mike Reilly a franchise quarterback? Youve heard what weve had to say, now its your turn. As always, its Your! Call. ' ' '

MINNEAPOLIS -- With the Memphis Grizzlies front office in turmoil, the Minnesota Timberwolves are strongly considering hiring coach Dave Joerger away to take over the team in his home state. Vapormax Flyknit Australia . The Timberwolves received permission from the Grizzlies to interview Joerger and will meet with him on Thursday, two people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The people requested anonymity because the Timberwolves are not commenting publicly on their coaching candidates, but all indications were that Joerger was in the drivers seat to replace the retired Rick Adelman. Joerger, who is from Staples, Minnesota, and went to college at Division-II Minnesota State, Moorhead, went 50-32 in his first season as Grizzlies coach. After a rough start while the team transitioned from coaching veteran Lionel Hollins to the first-timer Joerger, the Grizzlies pulled together, overcame several injuries to key players and surged to the seventh seed in the hyper-competitive Western Conference. But after pushing the Oklahoma City Thunder to seven games before losing in the first round, owner Robert Pera made the surprising decision to overhaul the front office. He fired CEO Jason Levien and director of player personnel Stu Lash, two moves that immediately called into question Joergers job security. Joerger goes way back with Timberwolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders. As a young coach trying to make his way up the ladder, Joerger came to watch Saunders, who coached the Timberwolves from 1995-2005, run practices. The two formed a mutual respect which lasts to this day. "The Timberwolves are the only NBA team of the 30 in the league that are in his home state and after having a long and honest conversation with Dave, he felt he owed it to his family, which resides entirely in Minnesota ... and we felt we owed it to Dave to at least have a discussion in this regard," Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace told ESPN 92.9 FM in Memphis. Asked if that was best for the Grizzlies, Wallace said he didnt see anything wrong with granting Joerger the chance to talk. "Hes just been granted permission to talk and will do so soon," said Wallace, who has assumed interim watch over the basketball operations while Pera restructures the front office. Saunders, who coached in the CBA before breaking into the NBA, has long had an affinity for coaches who had to grind it out in the minor leagues, believing they learn not only how to coach, but to run an organization. Joerger won championships in the NBDL, the International Basketball Association and the CBA before joining the Grizzlies as an assistant to Hollins. Joergers experience as a head coach last year with the Grizzlies helps him fit the profile Saunders is looking for in a replacement for Adelman. Saunders has said he wants a proven coach who knows the demands of running an NBA team, including handling questions from the media. The latter qualification is of particular concern for the Wolves right now with star forward Kevin Love set to opt out of his contract after next season. The Wolves are considering all their options with Love, including potentially trading him this summer. If the Wolves do not trade Love, they will head into the season with one of the major story lines in the league, one sure to draw attention from media all across the country. Thats part of the reason Saunders is reluctant to turn over the keys to a first-time head coach. The Timberwolves opening has also been linked to Hollins and college coaching stars such as Michigan States Tom Izzo, Floridas Billy Donovan and Iowa States Fred Hoiberg. Saunders has yet to offer the job to anyone, but it is believed that the uncertainty surrounding Love has caused some of the more high profile names on Saunders list to give tepid responses to inquiries. The situation with Love in Minnesota pales in comparison to the upheaval in Memphis, and the opportunity to bring his family back to his home state could be enough to convince Joerger to make the move from a team that was in the Western Conference finals two years ago to a franchise that hasnt made the playoffs since 2004. PARIS -- Looking to bounce back from the humiliation of last years wooden spoon, France coach Philippe Saint-Andre has made the risky move of choosing an untried halves pairing for Saturdays opening Six Nations match against England. Cheap Yeezy 700 Magnet . Announcing his team Thursday, Saint-Andre went for scrumhalf Jules Plisson alongside flyhalf Jean-Marc Doussain. Both are 22 years old, and Plisson makes his international debut while Doussain has played only five times for France. He also picked lock Alexandre Flanquart -- who has won only two international caps -- to play alongside Pascal Pape in the second row. "Jules has a lot of variety in his game, he had to start one day," Saint-Andre said. "Jules is fully focused. Everything will be easier for him if his teammates make an impact going forward, if the forwards win their battles. So its up to our pack to make things easier for our halves pairing, which is young and talented." Saint-Andre will give the kicking duties to Doussain, adding that Flanquarts selection is a strategic one because of his understanding with Pape, his Stade Francais teammate, and his ability to counter England in the lineouts. More surprisingly still, is that Saint-Andre has left out flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc from his squad, even though Trinh-Duc was arguably Frances best player in the corresponding fixture last year. France looked good for a win at Twickenham last year, leading 10-9 at the interval before being overpowered and losing 23-13 with Trinh-Duc taken off early into the second half. Wesley Fofana and Mathieu Bastareaud give France a powerful midfield in what is expected to be a physical battle at Stade de France. But the deciding factor is once again likely to be who comes out on top in the forwards. "We know from experience that the English have a powerful scrum. We know what to expect. Every time Ive played against them the scrum has always been a big combat zone," said veteran prop Nicolas Mas, who is set to win his 66th cap. "Last year we took them on well in the forwards, and we even thought we could win at Twickenham because we unsettled them so much." Englands young squad is growing in self-belief and experience under Stuart Lancaster and will want to make amends for a 30-3 defeat to Wales last year that cost the title and a Grand Slam. "We had one day in Cardiff when it didnt go as we would have wanted, but since then the focus has been on us improving," lock Joe Launchbury said. "Hopefully we showed where we are in the autumn and well continue to do that." While France has injury problems -- inspirational captain Thierry Dusautoir and flyhalf Remi Tales are both out injured, while prolific winger Vincent Clerc is still lacking full fitness after a long-term knee injury -- England has selection problems. Lancaster pleaded with flyhalf Toby Flood to stay home for club and country, but had to axe him from his squad because Flood, with 60 caps has decided to leave English champion Leicester, which he captains, for Toulouse after the season. The uncapped George Ford replaces him in the squad, while Lancaster handed debuts to outside centre Luther Burrell and wing Jack Nowell for Saturdays game. Burrell has impressed throughout the season for Northampton, and starts ahead of Brad Barritt. Nowell has benefited from injuries to Marland Yarde and Christian Wade to seize the right wing spot from the axed Chris Ashton. France is favourite to win the battle of the forwards, however, with a front five that can mix it with the worlds best on their day, and England are braced to withstand an early onslaught in the scrum. "Id say weve removed any lingering doubt over our physicality, but the question will continue to be asked," Launchbury said. "We went to Argentina and played well there. We had three tough autumn matches and I dont think anyone could say we lacked bite in those matches." -- France: Brice Dulin, Yoann Huget, Mathieu Bastareaud, Wesley Fofana, Maxime Medard, Jules Plisson, Jean-Marc Doussain; Louis Picamoles, Bernard Le Roux, Yannick Nyanga, Pascal Pape, Alexandre Flanquart, Nicolas Mas, Benjamin Kayser, Thomas Domingo.Reserves: Dimitri Szarzewksi, Yannick Forestier, Rabah Slimani, Yoann Maestri, Antoine Burban, Damien Chouly, Maxime Machenaud, Gael Fickou. MIAMI -- For the entirety of the regular season, the supremacy of the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference was brought into serious question by the Indiana Pacers. https://www.cheapshoesdiscount.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Cheap Shoes Fake . Then came the playoffs. And the question was answered -- emphatically. The Heat became the third franchise in NBA history to reach the title series in four consecutive seasons, a laugher of a conference-title finale getting them there again Friday night. LeBron James and Chris Bosh each scored 25 points, and Miami eliminated the Pacers for the third straight year with a 117-92 romp in Game 6 of the East championship series. "Im blessed. Very blessed. Very humbled," James said. "And we wont take this opportunity for granted. Its an unbelievable franchise, its an unbelievable group. And we know we still have work to do, but we wont take this for granted. Were going to four straight Finals and we will never take this for granted." Dwyane Wade and Rashard Lewis each scored 13 points for Miami, which trailed 9-2 before ripping off 54 of the next 75 points to erase any doubt by halftime. The Heat set a franchise record with their 11th straight home post-season win, going back to the final two games of last seasons NBA Finals, leading by 37 at one point. "The group loves to compete and loves to compete at the highest level, and be pushed to new levels," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. Indiana led the East for much of the regular season, one where the Pacers were fueled by the memory of losing Game 7 of the East finals in Miami a year ago. So they spent this season with a clear goal: Toppling Miami as kings of the East. The Pacers were two games better in the regular season. They were two games worse in the post-season. Game 7, this time, would have been in Indianapolis. The Pacers just had no shot of making it happen, not on this night. "Its bitterly disappointing to fall short of our goals," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "Its bitterly disappointing to lose to this team three years in a row. But were competing against the Michael Jordan of our era, the Chicago Bulls of our era, and you have to tip your hats to them for the way they played this whole series." Paul George had 29 points for Indiana, David West scored 16 and Lance Stephenson -- booed all night -- finished with 11. "No regrets. All of us played hard. They were just the better team, and they won," Stephenson said. So now, the Celtics and Lakers have some company. Until Friday, they were the only teams in NBA history to reach the Finals in four straight years. The Heat have joined them, and their quest for a third straight title starts in either San Antonio or Oklahoma City on Thursday night. "Its all about 15 special men and what theyve been able to accomplish these last four years," said Heat managing general partner Micky Arison, who handed the East title trophy to Greg Oden. "Just a little bit more work to do, but Im really proud of the incredible job that these guys have done." The way they played in Game 6 made a prophet out of Bosh, who predicted Miami would play its best game of the season. The numbers suggested he was right, and then some. Miamis largest lead at any point this season, before Game 6, was 36 points. Indianas largest deficit of the season had been 35 points. After a layup by James with 3:39 left in the third, the margin in this one was a whopping 37 -- 86-49. James night ended not long afterward. "It was just one of those games that we want to play from beginning to end," Bosh said. "Here on our home court, we wanted to make a statement." There were the now-requisite Stephenson events, adding intrigue to the first half. The Indiana guard walked over to James and tapped him in the face in the opening minutes, stood over him after both got tangled under the basket, and got whistled for a flagrant foul for striking Norris Cole in the head in the second quarter. It was the end of a memorable series for Stephenson, none of which really had anything to do with basketball. His string of newsworthy moments from these East finals started when he talked about the health of Wades knees before the series and reached an apex in Game 5 when he blew into James ear and walked into a Heat huddle. When it was over, Stephenson went out and shook hands with plenty of Heat players, as did the rest of his teammates. "To work so hard and to get to where we are now really hurts," Stephenson said. The Heat were bothered by it all -- "angry," Spoelstra confessed -- but got the last laugh. Big Brother, again, reigned supreme in this rivalry. Vogel was using the big brother-little brother analogy earlier in the series, telling the tale of how at some point in every sibling rivalry the younger one has to make a stand. Indiana thought it would happen now. The Heat, obviously, had other ideas. "Theyve won championships," West said Friday when asked if the Pacers considered themselves Miamis equal. "No, were not equal." West said those words about eight hours before game time. They were in no dispute at nights end. NOTES: James appeared in what became his 100th playoff victory. ... The Pacers are now 7-12 against Miami in the last three postseasons, and 20-10 against everybody else. ... Wade and Udonis Haslem are going to the NBA Finals for the fifth time in nine seasons -- with a 15-67 season on their record during that stretch as well. ... Two seeds fell: No. 4 Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium lost to Katarzyna Piter of Poland 6-4, 6-2, and No. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Don Zimmer wasnt a fixture in baseball forever. It just seemed that way. He played alongside Jackie Robinson on the only Brooklyn Dodgers team to win the World Series. He coached Derek Jeter on the New York Yankees latest dynasty. And his manager once was the illustrious Casey Stengel. For 66 years, Zimmer was a most popular presence at ballparks all over, a huge chaw often filling his cheek. Everyone in the game seemed to know him, and love him. Zimmer was still working for the Tampa Bay Rays as a senior adviser when he died Wednesday at a hospital in nearby Dunedin. He had been in a rehabilitation centre since having seven hours of heart surgery in mid-April. "Today we all lost a national treasure and a wonderful man," Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg said in a statement. Zimmer started out as a minor league infielder in 1949, hitting powerful shots that earned him the nickname "Popeye." He went on to enjoy one of the longest-lasting careers in baseball history. And oh, the stories he could tell. "I loved listening to him every day," Billy Connors, a coach under Zimmer with the Chicago Cubs, told The Associated Press. Zimmer played on the original New York Mets, saw his Boston Red Sox beaten by Bucky Dents playoff homer, got tossed to the ground by Pedro Martinez during a brawl and was Joe Torres right-hand man as the bench coach with the Yankees. "I hired him as a coach, and he became like a family member to me. He has certainly been a terrific credit to the game," Torre said in a statement. "The game was his life. And his passing is going to create a void in my life and my wife Alis. We loved him. The game of baseball lost a special person tonight. He was a good man," he said. A career .235 hitter in the big leagues, numbers could never define all that Zimmer meant to the game. He did have tremendous success, too -- his teams won six World Series rings and went to the post-season 19 times. Zimmers No. 66 Rays jersey had been worn recently by longtime Tampa Bay third base coach Tom Foley in tribute. The Rays hosted the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night, and Foley was crying in the dugout. Earlier this season, the Rays hung a banner in the front of the press box at Tropicana Field that simply read "ZIM." There was a moment of silence at Dodger Staddium for Zimmer before Los Angeles played the Chicago White Sox. https://www.cheapshoesdiscount.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Cheap Shoes Free Shipping. "On behalf of Major League Baseball and the many clubs that Popeye served in a distinguished baseball life, I extend my deepest condolences to Dons family, friends and his many admirers throughout our game," Commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement. Zimmers biggest admirer was his wife "Soot" -- they were married at home plate during a minor league game in 1951. Two years later in the minors, Zimmers path took a frightening turn -- he was beaned by a fastball and left in a coma, and doctors had to put metal screws in his head. He recovered well enough to wear a lot of uniforms during his 56 years in the majors. He played for the Dodgers, Mets, Cubs, Cincinnati and Washington. He managed San Diego, Boston, Texas and the Cubs. "Probably the best baseball man I knew," Connors said. Yankees executive Hank Steinbrenner echoed that sentiment. "I loved Zim. I loved his passion. He was a great, great guy. He was a great baseball guy," he told the AP. "Everybody loved him." Steinbrenner, son of late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, said Torre and Zimmer were the "perfect team" during New Yorks run that brought four titles in a five-year span. "Joe was low-keyed. Zim would get fired up. He was a bench coach for real," Steinbrenner said. "He was an extremely important part of the 1990s success." Zimmer hit 91 home runs and had 352 RBIs in 12 seasons. He started Game 7 when Brooklyn beat the Yankees for the 1955 crown and was an All-Star in 1961. The next year, he played under Stengel on the 1962 expansion Mets, who famously went 40-120. "Dont blame them all on me," Zimmer once said. "I got traded after the first 30 days." Zimmer was the 1989 NL Manager of the Year with the Cubs and was at Yankee Stadium for three perfect games, by Don Larsen in the 1956 World Series and by David Cone and David Wells in the late 1990s. "Its a sad day for the game of baseball," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said after a 3-2 loss at San Diego. "Don impacted lives from the time he put a uniform on in the minor leagues until today." Zimmer is survived by his wife; son Thomas, a scout with the San Francisco Giants; daughter Donna, and four grandchildren. ' ' '

ST. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Calgary Flames Shirts . LOUIS - Martin Brodeur is retiring to take a front office job with the St. Louis Blues. The New Jersey Devils have a spot waiting for one of the greatest goaltenders in NHL history whenever he is ready to come back home.Absolutely. He is aware of that and has always been aware of that, Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello said Tuesday. He could have come back even now if he wanted to.The 10-time All-Star and four-time Vezina Trophy winner finished his career with St. Louis after a standout, two-decade run with New Jersey. A news conference was set for Thursday morning before the Blues return from the All-Star break to play Nashville. Its kind of sad to see a guy like him hang em up, said Brian Elliott, the Blues All-Star goalie. Im sure its a tough decision, but I was grateful to be on the same team with him if only for a little bit.The 42-year-old Brodeur wrapped up his 22-year career with St. Louis after signing as a free agent on Dec. 2. He was 3-3 with a 2.87 goals-against average and in his final victory became the fifth-oldest goalie to post a shutout in a 3-0 win over Colorado on Dec. 29.He last played on Jan. 2 in a loss at Anaheim and had not returned since being granted a one-week leave of absence on Jan. 14. Brodeur had dropped to third on the depth chart after Elliott returned from a knee injury, with 24-year-old Jake Allen sharing the position, but teammates are happy hell still be around to help. Its an extremely smart move, forward Alexander Steen said. All the experience and all that stuff is so valuable to have in an organization. That stuff spreads.Lamoriello said hes been talking with the Brodeur the last several weeks, so the announcement was not a surprise. Lamoriello said it wont be long before the Devils retire his No. 30 and that there are no hard feelings Brodeur is sticking with St. Louis for now.Its something that he feels he would like to try and see, Lamoriello said. He might even find out whether he likes this business or not. Who knows? There is no issue whatsoever.Brodeur played his first 21 seasons with the Devils, who did not re-sign him after committing to Cory Schneider as the No. 1 goalie. Schneider said he was a little surprised about the announcement, calling it the end of an iconic career. Those kinds of players, like Marty and Jaromir (Jagr), they only come along so often, Schneider said. The things that Marty did, I dont know if we will ever see again or it probably wont be for a long, long time. The Montreal native was 691-397-176 with a 2.24 goals-against average, .912 save percentage and 125 shutouts in 1,266 career appearances. He holds regular-season NHL records for wins, games and minutes.I dont think he has to worry about losing those anytime soon, Elliott said. Its just awesome to be able to stand on the same ice as a guy like that, especially when you look at the record books probably 50 years from now and you can be like, I played with that guy, so its cool.Brodeur also holds post-season records for starts (204) and shutouts (24), and is second in wins (113). He appeared in 70 or more games in 10 consecutive seasons from 1997-98 to 2007-08.He won three Stanley Cups with the Devils and was a two-time Olympic gold medallist with Team Canada in 2002 and 2010.Devils centre Scott Gomez won two Stanley Cups with Brodeur and remembered a player so handy with the stick it prompted an NHL rule change. Jagr said having Brodeur in goal was like having an extra half defenceman who could start breakouts. So many new goaltenders come in the league and its kind of incredible for him to adjust and stay in that game for such a long time, Jagr said. I dont think anybody can do that again, in any sport. Maybe (Peyton) Manning if he keeps playing, because quarterback is that type of position.___AP Sports Writer Tom Canavan contributed to this report. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Wholesale Flames Jerseys .Y. -- In a span of three days, Shabazz Napier and Connecticut knocked out both Philadelphia schools in the NCAA tournament. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Flames Jerseys 2021 .Y. - The New York Rangers have reached a one-year contract extension with goalie Cam Talbot, keeping Henrik Lundqvists backup away from unrestricted free agency. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">https://www.cheapflames.com/ . The 27-year-old hit .209 in 86 at-bats last year after missing the 2010 season following surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Its been a long and, at times, bumpy road back to the UFC for Andrei Arlovski. Following a seven-plus year stint that saw the dangerous striker capture the UFC heavyweight championship, Arlovski opted to part ways with the worlds largest MMA organization after fulfilling his contract in early 2008. His strategy was simple in theory, but tough in execution: dispatch the top heavyweights outside the UFC and return to the negotiating table with increased bargaining power. Arlovskis new beginning got off to a hot start when he picked up consecutive knockout victories over Ben Rothwell and Roy Nelson. Unfortunately for the Belarus native, his plan soon took a sharp nose dive. After a disastrous outing against Fedor Emelianenko in 2009 that saw him swatted out of mid-air like a fly during an ill-fated flying-knee attempt, Arlovski went on to lose his next three fights. In MMA youre often only as good as your last fight and Arlovski had now dropped four straight for the first time in his career. In the eyes of many, The Pit Bull was done. But Arlovskis fortunes would change once more, as he returned to the win column with a TKO victory over Ray Lopez in mid-2011. Since his skid ended hes now netted an impressive 6-1 (1 NC) record and subsequently earned his way back onto the UFC roster. On the cusp of his promotional return, Arlovski said his slump was an important learning experience. “I think everything happens for a reason,” Arlovski said. “Right now I have a lot of energy and fire in my eyes. Im just ready to fight hard and train hard. “If youre on top of the world, you have to train even harder than before because you can lose it in one minute. It was definitely a good life experience for me. Like I said, I have a lot of energy, Im still young and Im ready to start everything from the beginning again. “I knew I was going to be back in the UFC sooner or later. Im very excited its happened now.” Arlovski gets to reintroduce himself to UFC fans when he battles Brendan Schaub on the main card of UFC 174 in Vancouver Saturday. The show will be headlined by a flyweight championship bout between Demetrious Johnson and Ali Bagautinov. Not only does Arlovski have the opportunity to pick up his first win inside the octagon since UFC 82 over six years ago, he also aims to knock off a top-15 ranked heavyweight. With Schaub currently sitting in the No. 14 sppot, Arlovski is determined to send a message to the rest of the weight class. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Fake Flames Jerseys. “Its very important for me to have a very good start in my second debut in the UFC and I will do everything possible to beat Brendan,” Arlovski said. “The best thing about Brendan is that hes in front of me. Hes top 15 and Im not even top 25. So everybody whos in front of me is a very important fight for me.” A win over Schaub will certainly put Arlovski back on track in the ultra-competitive heavyweight division. Though he once wore UFC gold around his waist, hes not about to get ahead of himself. As much as Arlovski would love to fight for a belt again, he admits he has his work cut out for him before he can re-enter the title picture. “One step at a time,” Arlovski said. “I have to face Brendan Schaub and then afterwards its definitely going to be up to the UFC (who I fight next). “(The heavyweight division) was tough then and now its even tougher. Definitely the UFC has the best heavyweights in the world. Its awesome.” As with most heavyweight tilts, Arlovskis bout with Schaub carries the potential for a thrilling finish. In 45 combined fights, the two have only reached the judges scorecards a total of eight times. Though both fighters have excelled at putting opponents away, theyve also suffered their share of knockout losses over the years, causing some to question the strength of their respective chins. Arlovski immediately dismissed the notion, stating that one top fighter can put another to sleep on any given night. “If you land a good right, a good kick, or a good punch in the right place, anybody can be knocked out,” Arlovski said. “I think its all b------- about a weak chin or a glass chin. Its all about landing a hard punch in the right place. Definitely, I wont count on Brendan having a weak chin. “Brendan, hes definitely a very tough fighter. He has good jiu jitsu and is very dangerous on the ground. I just need to be ready.” Though Arlovski carries no illusions about how quickly a fight can turn sour, hes also no stranger to dishing out highlight-reel knockouts. If things go according to plan, hell be adding another to his resume this weekend. “I think its going to be a very exciting fight for the fans,” he said. “Especially for Arlovski fans.” ' ' '

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets had trouble hitting shots and finding a rhythm through the first three quarters against New Orleans on Saturday night, doing just enough to hang with the Pelicans. https://www.cheapgrizzlies.com/234p-jamychal-green-jersey-grizzlies.html" class="TyTxtSmlC">JaMychal Green Jersey . In the fourth, the Rockets -- led by James Harden and Jeremy Lin for a second straight game -- were able to finish things off. Dwight Howard had 24 points and 18 rebounds, and Harden scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter in the Rockets 107-98 comeback victory. "It was winning time," Harden said. "I was struggling the first three quarters and couldnt find the rhythm when my teammates needed me the most. We got the ball moving and Jeremy made a couple of good threes. Chandler (Parsons) had a good put back and then Dwight got an and-one. Everybody picked up the intensity a little bit." It was the second straight game Houston rallied in the fourth for a win and marked the first time since December 2009 that the Rockets have won three straight games within the division. Houston beat San Antonio on Christmas and topped Memphis on Thursday night. "We didnt shoot it well," Houston coach Kevin McHale said. "I know at one time I looked up, I thought we were two for 19 from the three-point line. It felt like they made every three. They were 10 for 22. ... We found a way to win, but it was another in a long line of games that feel like you are pulling teeth." Howard was 10 of 12 from the floor, helping to keep Houston in the game through the first three quarters with 20 points in that span. "I just tried to play out of the double team," Howard said. "When they doubled, I tried to make the good play, and when they didnt double, I tried to make the better play for myself." Parsons added 19 points and seven rebounds, and Terrence Jones had 17 points and eight rebounds to help Houston win its third straight game and snap New Orleans winning streak at two. Lin had all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter after scoring 14 of his 18 points in the fourth against Memphis. The Rockets made three of five 3-point attempts in the fourth quarter after going 3 of 21 from long range in the first three quarters. "Its definitely not the ideal plan or ideal strategy," Lin said. "Im thankful Coach McHale let me keep going. I was able to finally get a little bit of a rhythm in the last two games. I have to do a much, much better job and be more aggressive in the first three quarters." Houston was 25 of 32 from the free-throw line, while New Orleans was 6 of 8. "Anything I say is going to get me in trouble," New Orleans coach Monty Williams said about the free-throw difference. "OK, so lets just leave it at that. Thirty-two to eight." Ryan Anderson had 22 points and 12 rebounds for New Orleans. Anthony Davis added 18 points and 16 rebounds, and Tyreke Evans had 16 points and nine assists. "I think we really didnt execute down the stretch," Evans said. "It was a tough loss. I think we played hard and fought, but in the fourth quarter, our execution wasnt that good. They hit some big shots. ... They were shooting it from far out, and it kind of tough, but they made their shots, and we cant do anything about that." After New Orleans opened a 92-88 lead with 4:54 left on Davis alley-oop dunk, Jones started Houston on a game-ending 19-6 run with a three-point play. Following Davis jumper, Lin tied it at 94 with a 3-pointer with 3 1/2 minutes remaining. Then, Harden put the Rockets ahead for good with a 3-pointer to give with 3:14 remaining. "We were in it the whole game, and we were giving ourselves a chance to win the game," Davis said. "We tried to send a couple of guys at Dwight and give him different looks. He found Jeremy Lin in the corner for a three and then James came down and hit a three. They just made big shots, and we didnt execute at the end. We have to come out and know what were running and execute." NOTES: New Orleans guard Eric Gordon sat out his second straight game because of a right hip contusion. ... CHICAGO - The Chicago Blackhawks found a higher gear in the third period, and Brandon Saad helped finish off the Calgary Flames. https://www.cheapvapormaxoutlet.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Vapormax 2021 .Saad scored with 7:03 left, and the Blackhawks beat the Flames 2-1 on Sunday night for their 12th victory in the last 14 games. After motoring past Calgary defenceman Mark Giordano, Saad took a centring pass from captain Jonathan Toews and lifted a shot past Jonas Hillers glove. That one felt good, Saad said. Its a great play. When youre used to winning and you know how to win, you come ready to play in the third.Toews also set up Patrick Sharps power-play goal as the surging Blackhawks dealt the Flames their fifth straight loss. Chicago had won eight in a row before Saturday nights 3-2 loss at the New York Islanders. The Blackhawks stepped up their play in the final period, dominating for chunks of time and outshooting the Flames 10-5. Hiller had to be sharp to keep it close, making several tough saves.I thought we were OK for 40 (minutes), and then went to another level in the third, Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. It was a big win for us.We played the right way for most of the night and got rewarded in the end.The rush that led to Saads seventh goal started when Calgarys Johnny Gaudreau fell and lost the puck at the Flames blue line. Chicago defenceman Niklas Hjalmarsson fed Toews, who powered down right wing before finding Saad.Johnny got a bad edge on his skate. Its not a matter that he turned the puck over being careless or anything, Flames coach Bob Hartley said. It was an accident.Right now it seems that whenever we need a break, its not there. We showed up to work ... but no rewards to show for it.Jiri Hudler had his team-leading 12th goal for Calgary, which has scored just eight times during its slide.Sharps goal was his first since returning Tuesday from a knee injury that sidelined him for 14 games. Sharp, who led Chicago with 34 goals last season, has four this year — all on the power play.Chicagos Antti Raanta made 23 saves while subbing for Corey Crawford, who is out with a foot injury. Rookie Scott Darling had started the Blackhawks last four games. Before the game, Quenneville said he expected Crawford to return next weekend. Raanta and Darling have filled in quite nicely since Crawford was hurt while leaving a concert two weeks ago.Hiller finished with 26 saves. He gave us a chance to win, made some unbelievable saves at the right time, Hartley said. But were not scoring much right now, so were not helping our cause.Neither team had many chances in the scoreless first period.Hiller made a sprawling pad save on Andrew Shaws rebound attempt 6:15 in. Gaudreau danced down the Chicago slot with a series of nifty moves with 7:59 left, but was stopped by Raanta.Hudler opened the scoring at 4:27 of the second when he trailed in late on a rush and was left open. Hudler took Gaudreaus cross-ice feed and whistled it past Raantas glove.Sharps goal at 8:43 — just nine seconds into a power play — came off a fast passing series with Kane and Toews. From below the goal line, Toews dished across the slot to Sharp, who sprinted into the left circle and ripped in a high one-timer.NOTES: Chicago D Tim Erixon, acquired from Columbus earlier on Sunday for F Jeremy Morin, played on the left side of a defensive pair with Michal Rozsival. ... San Francisco spoiled the season debut of Braves starter Mike Minor with its seventh victory in eight games. Atlanta has a season-high four-game losing streak. After missing the first month of the season with left shoulder tendinitis, Minor (0-1) allowed seven hits, two runs, no walks and struck out four. He trailed 1-0 when Pagan led off the game with his third homer and was down 2-1 in the sixth after Morse added his seventh homer. Lincecum (2-1) gave up six hits and three walks with four strikeouts and kept Braves hitters off balance by keeping his pitches low in the strike zone and added a sharp curveball and slider. Though Lincecums ERA still stands at 5.12 this season, San Francisco has won his past four starts, and the right-hander is 3-0 with a 2.91 ERA over that span. Lincecum had problems in the fifth by walking leadoff hitter Gerald Laird, who advanced on Jason Heywards single and scored from second on Freddie Freemans RBI single. But that was all the damage Atlantas offence could muster. San Franciscos bullpen, which leads the majors with a 1.98 ERA, continued its stingy work. Santiago Casilla, the third Giants pitcher, struck out Chris Johnson with runners on first and second to end the seventh. He faced the minimum in the eighth, lowering his opponents batting average against right-handers to .162 in 37 at-bats. After retiring pinch-hitter Evan Gattis and Heyward on groundouts, Romo gave up B.J. Uptons single and walked Freeman. But Romo ended the game when cleanup hitter Justin Upton took a called third strike. Minor continued his troubles with the long ball. He gave up four homers in his last rehab start for Double-A Mississippi on April 25 and has allowed nine homers in his past seven big-league starts dating to last Aug. 31. Even so, his return could boost a Braves rotation that lost Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy to season-ending elbow surgeries during spring training. Minor, Atlantas leader in innings pitched the past two years, began the night 19-13 in 46 starts since the 2012 All-Star break and had a 2.90 ERA that ranked fourth in the majors over that span. "It was a dream come true to player. Im kind of glad Im not pitching here. It would be a little weird." Hudson is 4-1 with a 2.17 ERA in six starts this year. ... In a deal announced earlier in the day, Johnson and the Braves agreed to a $23.5 million, three-year contract covering 2015-17. ... PHOENIX -- The NFL has suspended Arizona Cardinals standout inside linebacker Daryl Washington for one year for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. Adam Ottavino Jersey . The punishment, announced Friday, was for substance abuse and did not mention his recent guilty plea to assaulting his ex-girlfriend. He still could face a later suspension for the criminal conviction. Washington, in a statement released by his agent, said the penalty was for marijuana, and that he takes responsibility for the violation. He said he "is committed to making changes" in his life that will allow him to return to the NFL. Considered among the best in the NFL at his position, Washington was suspended the first four games of last season for violating the substance abuse policy. "It is completely unacceptable that Daryl has once again put us in this position," Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said in a statement released by the team. "We all know what the consequences are and will deal with them." Washington, the team leader in tackles in 2011 and 2012, will lose $2.9 million in salary, plus any prorated signing bonus money, due to the suspension. In March, Arizona exercised a $10 million option to keep him on the roster. Washington received $5 million then and the deals calls for him to get the other $5 million next March. However, the leagues collective bargaining agreement with players has a mechanism that allows the Cardinals to recoup a portion of that option money because of the substance abuse violation. Washington said the NFL "policy is very strict, and I have chosen to take responsibility." "I will work extremely hard to stay in top football shape," he said, "and will work equally hard to ensure that my life off the field meets the high level of maturity and responsibility to which I am committed." With the loss of inside linebacker Karlos Dansby to free agency, the Cardinals find themselves without the dynamic combination that was a big part of their strong defence last season. Second-year player Kevin Minter is slotted to take Dansbys place. Just what the team will do to try to replace Washington is unclear. "Our approach is the same as its always been: next man up," Keim said. "We talk a lot about how critical depth is to a team because situations always arise whether by injury or other circumstances such as this one." After leading the team with 111 tackles in his second NFL season, Washington signed a six-year contract, adding four years and $32 million to his existing deal. In 2012, he led the team with career highs of 140 tackles and nine sacks and made the Pro Bowl. But in April of last year, the NFL suspended him four games for violating the substance abuse policy. A month later, he was arrested on accusations of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, the mother of the couples child. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault earlier this year. A suspension for the criminal conviction had been expected. The penalty for substance abuse came as a surprise to some, but apparently not to Washingtons teammates. "Old news to us, new news to yall," defensive tackle Darnell Dockett said in a tweet. Keim said "our hope is that this suspension will give Daryl the opportunity to accept the necessary help and guidance to get his life back on track," Keim said, "and we will certainly support him however we can." When OTAs resumed this week, coach Bruce Arians said he hoped the team could pick up another outside linebacker. The Cardinals signed veteran Larry Foote in the off-season, and outside linebacker Lorenzo Washington also can play inside. Minter, a second-round draft pick, played almost entirely on special teams as a rookie. Another player Arizona has at inside linebacker is Kenny Demens, an undrafted rookie free agent a year ago who spent last season on the Cardinals practice squad. "I sincerely apologize for the effect of my actions on my teammates, coaches and other colleagues at the Cardinals," Washington said. "I also apologize to Cardinals fans for the time I will miss. The organisation has come under fire from the South African government for a lack of transformation in its national teams, leading to a ban on bidding for international tournaments that will be reviewed next year.President Chris Nenzani said in a statement that the CSA will seek to move with the times and set a minimum number of black players to be selected in all their national teams. He added that these targets would be calculated over a year and not apply on a match-by-match basis. In the past we had never set targets in our national teams but with changing circumstances we feel it is essential to move with the times, Nenzani said. The precise targets will depend on work to be undertaken by relevant committees to determine what is realistic and sustainable. VANCOUVER - If the Canucks pre-season is any indication, winger Radim Vrbata will be fitting in nicely on a line with new teammates Daniel and Henrik Sedin. https://www.cheapspurs.com/616j-ron-boone-jersey-spurs.html" class="TyTxtSmlC">Ron Boone Jersey .Vrbata scored the eventual winner and Henrik Sedin had two assists Saturday as Vancouver closed out their pre-season with a 3-2 victory against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena. It was the 33-year-old veterans third goal of the pre-season as he looks to gel with his new Canucks teammates after coming to Vancouver as a free agent this summer. Hes filling some big shoes with the departure of former Sedin linemate Ryan Kesler, but so far so good. For me to get to know new guys, new staff and new system ... from that standpoint I think its worked out fine, said Vrbata. Hopefully we can carry that over to the regular season.Chris Higgins and Daniel Sedin also scored for the Canucks, who finished their pre-season 5-2-0, including a 2-1 victory last Thursday in Edmonton. Starting goalie Ryan Miller went the distance with 27 saves as he also prepares for his first season in Vancouver.Nail Yakupov and Will Acton replied for the Oilers (4-4-0), who wrapped their pre-season by icing a young lineup of prospects and were without stars like Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and David Perron.Henrik Sedin, who finished the pre-season with six assists in four games, says hes feeling plenty of optimism heading into Vancouvers opener on Wednesday in Calgary. Its been everything you can ask for a€” a new line mate, our power play feels good, youre confident every time you step on the ice, said Henrik Sedin. We feel we can create on any given shift. Theres still a few things to work on but overall Im really happy. The Canucks, starting a more experienced lineup, jumped on the Oilers early as Alex Burrows fired a long pass to the speedy Higgins, who smoothly collected the puck and shovelled it over Ben Scrivenss left shoulder 1:19 into the first. It was Vancouvers first shot of the game.Just over two minutes later Henrik Sedin found his twin brother behind the net and Daniel banked it in off Scrivenss back for a 2-0 lead. Vancouver finished the opening period looking firmly in control with an 8-3 shot advantage.Edmonton got back in it at 5:07 of the second when Canucks defenceman Luca Sbisa turned it over in his zone and Yakupov took advantage with a blazing wrist shot that beat Miller. The Canucks restored their two-goal lead at 11:33 of the second as Vrbata, with a crowd in front of Scrivens, found the loose puck and squeaked it through the goalies legs for his third goal of the pre-season.Im not going to lie a€” it was lucky that it went through, said Vrbata. We were buzzing around that shift. This was a lucky one to go in.Edmonton cut the deficit back down to one goal again near the end of the second as Lander dished it to Acton at the face-off circle and the centre slapped it past Miller at 18:03.The Oilers had a chance to tie it early in the third when Leon Draisaitl got his cage rattled by Alex Edler resulting in an elbowing penalty to the Canucks defenceman. Edmonton couldnt capitalize, however, and finished the game with a 29-18 shots-on-goal advantage. We want a better results than that, said Edmonton coach Dallas Eakins. We had some chances to score late and we couldnt get it in the net. We have to get better at burying those chances when the game is on the line.Scrivens finished with 15 saves. The Oilers were using their last pre-season game to get another look at a number of their young talent, including Edmontons third overall pick in this years draft Draisaitl, centre Bogdan Yakimov, and top blue-line prospects Darnell Nurse and Oscar Klefbom.Eakins says he knows hes got some hard decisions to make ahead of the team opener against Calgary on Thursday.Every game, every day of the training camp is an important one, said Eakins. You need to be great today, we tell these guys, and thats all you have to worry about.Draisaitl had a golden scoring chance in the second, going one-on-one with Miller, but the veteran netminder made a solid glove save to deny the youngster.Notes a€” The Canucks and Oilers will face each other fives times in the regular season. AUBURN HILLS, Mich. https://www.cheappelicans.com/695u-zylan-cheatham-jersey-pelicans.html" class="TyTxtSmlC">Zylan Cheatham Jersey . -- Josh Smith was annoyed with himself earlier in the week, when his jumper with the game on the line missed badly and Detroit went on to lose to the New York Knicks. So when Smith had the ball in the final seconds again Saturday night, he went straight to the basket. "I wanted to be aggressive," Smith said. "When I caught it, I didnt want to settle." Smiths driving, left-handed bank shot with 1.2 seconds left gave the Pistons a 110-108 win over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night. Smith finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Brandon Jennings had 18 assists, the most in the NBA this season, to go with eight points and eight rebounds. Smith was involved in a few big plays in the final half-minute -- both good and bad. His 3-pointer as the shot clock expired put Detroit ahead 108-105 with 26.8 seconds left. Then he fouled Gerald Green while the Phoenix guard was shooting a 3-pointer. Green made all three free throws to tie it with 4.3 seconds remaining. The ensuing inbounds pass went to Smith near the top of the key. He drove to the right and then switched hands, making a tough shot while being tightly defended by Channing Frye. Greens 3-pointer at the buzzer from in front of the Detroit bench missed badly. "This is a great game for us, to be able to see how mentally strong we can be," Smith said. "Weve just got to be able to reflect on these games and apply it to the games that we have in front of us." Frye led Phoenix with 21 points. The Suns tied the game with a 13-3 run to start the fourth quarter, but Detroit responded with a 7-0 run. It was 105-97 before Phoenix scored eight straight points, tying it on a 3-pointer by P.J. Tucker with 51.2 seconds left. "We had one game this year where we came from 21 back, and we usually fight hard," Tucker said. The Pistons barely got a shot off on their next possession, but Smith was able to free himself on the left wing and connect from 3-point range. It was his first of two big shots at the end. "Those were two tough shots that Josh made," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "We let him get to the basket at the end, but he was going in the wrong direction and still knocked that down. Before that, we play great defence, they lose the ball and they manage to bat it out to him and he hits the 3. Thats just a bad break for us." Jennings equaled team records held by Isiah Thomas with 11 assists in the first quarter and 16 in the first half. But Jennings didnt have any points, rebounds or assists in the fourth quarter. Backup Will Bynum picked up the slack a bit, scoring eight of his 16 points in the final period. "Sometimes in those fourth quarters Brandon was alone out there as far as creating and thats kind of tough on him," Bynum said. "So when were out there we help him out a lot and that spreads the court out." Detroit has been a disappointment after signing Smith and trading for Jennings in the off-season, but those two looked sharp for most of the night Saturday. In the first quarter, the Pistons looked as smooth and cohesive as they have all season, repeatedly beating the transition-oriented Suns down the court for easy baskets. Jennings tossed an alley-oop off the backboard to Andre Drummond for a 12-3 lead, and later in the quarter his alley-oop to Smith gave him 10 assists. Jennings then found Kyle Singler for a dunk that made it 35-19. The Pistons finished the quarter with 16 assists on 17 field goals -- and a 35-21 lead. Even when Jennings shot an airball at the end of the second quarter Drummond was there to tip it in at the buzzer for a 64-51 lead. Detroit had 50 points in the paint in the first half. The Pistons finished with 68. The last player with 16 assists in a half was Jason Kidd, who did it April 5, 2009, for Dallas, according to STATS. That was also against Phoenix. The last player with at least 11 assists in a quarter was Steve Blake, who had 14 for Portland in 2009. Phoenix was without guard Eric Bledsoe, who had surgery Friday on his right knee. NOTES: Thomas had 16 assists in a half against Dallas on Feb. 13, 1985. He tied the team record with 25 assists in that game. He twice reached 11 assists in a quarter. ... ENGLEWOOD, Colo. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Cheap Flames Jerseys . - Orlando Franklin ambled into the locker room Thursday and loudly announced, Im available to talk about the situation. It was the start of an extraordinary half hour in the Denver Broncos locker room where the offensive linemen cling to vestiges of the old code of silence that former offensive line coach Alex Gibbs introduced in the 1980s.One by one, each member of the Broncos usually quiet O-line chimed in on the criticism thats being piled upon them for failing to protect Peyton Manning or get the ground game going, which threatens to derail their Super Bowl dreams.—Franklin, still getting used to playing left guard after three years at right tackle, said he doesnt care about the scathing critique from Mark Schlereth. The ESPN analyst and ex-Broncos Pro Bowl O-lineman said this week that Denvers front five was so horrendous that if I was grading, giving an F would be kind.—Will Montgomery, who slid in at centre two weeks ago as the centerpiece of Denvers wholesale changes up front, said he doesnt pay any attention to whats being said outside the building but was confident the front five can get the team back on track starting Sunday.—Ryan Clady, whos dealing with a strained groin, said his surgically repaired left foot that sidelined him almost all of last season feels great. He stressed the O-line realizes righting the ship starts up front because if we go, the team goes.—Louis Vasquez, the All-Pro right guard whos been moved to right tackle, said while changes are tough especially in the middle of the season, Ill take it as a complement that the coaches believe and trust in me to get out on the edge and get the job done.—Manny Ramirez, whos moved from centre to right guard, said the reconfigured O-line was a work in progress but he appreciated Mannings vote of confidence a day earlier.Manning defended his O-line, pointing out the difficulty in switching the group midstream.Certainly, Manning replied when asked if this front five was good enough to win. Its not easy forming chemistry in just two weeks in the middle of the season, right? What is that, just a handful of practices theyve had together? Youd like for an offensive line to have a minicamp and a training camp to go through together, but ... were having to form that chemistry on the run.Franklin said: You dont just create chemistry in two weeks as an offensive line. Its not going to be like that. The Broncos have seen 38 runs go for zero gain or negative yards, their O-line has been penalized 31 times and although Mannings been sacked a league-low 11 times, three have come on three-man rushes. The heat was turned up high after the Broncos 22-7 loss at St. Louis on Sunday in which Manning threw 54 passes and handed off just nine times.Offensive co-ordinator Adam Gase, who one week earlier criticized into his offensive linemen for their poor play, took a more contrite tone Thursday, saying he could help them with better play-calling.The first thing I can do is run the ball more, Gase said, giving them more of a chance and allowing those guys to tee off a little bit instead of being on their heels so much.Another thing that could help is the return of Virgil Green, whose three-game absence with a strained calf has coincided with the offensive lines dive.Franklin said no matter whats called or whos in there or whos saying what, the O-line has to get it done.At the end of the day, this is the NFL. Youre at the top of your game. You do what youre told in this league, he said. They pay us a lot of money. They compensate us very well in order for us to go out there whether youre going to throw the ball 100 per cent of the time or run the ball every time. Thats our job to get it done. The Broncos knew there would be growing pains when they chose to make wholesale changes up front rather than try to help the O-linemen out schematically by inserting another tight end or running back into the formations.Gase said it was a matter of getting his best five linemen on the field.Right now, I feel good about it, he said. I know were getting better. ... I think we are going to start moving forward here in these last six games.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Calgary Flames Pro Shop . - Kobe Bryant and LeBron James traded hugs, big shots and verbal jabs all night with warmth and humour. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Wholesale Flames Jerseys . -- Creighton apparently has Villanovas number. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">https://www.cheapflames.com/ .com) - Devin Booker scored 19 points and top-ranked Kentucky put on a defensive clinic in an 83-44 obliteration of UCLA in the CBS Sports Classic.Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Teddy Bridgewater completed 21-of-31 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns to lead eighth-ranked Louisville to a 24-10 win over Rutgers on Thursday. Bridgewater threw one interception and fumbled once, but was able to overcome the miscues to lead the Cardinals (6-0, 2-0 AAC) to victory. "It was a decent performance," Bridgewater said. "I left a couple of throws on the field. I battled adversity, but it was a decent performance. It was a great team effort, the guys laid it all on the line." Senorise Perry carried the ball 13 times for 104 yards and a touchdown and Kai De La Cruz and Eli Rogers each had a touchdown reception for Louisville, which has won eight straight games dating back to last season. The Cards were without top receiver DeVante Parker, who injured his shoulder in last weeks 30-7 win over Temple. Gary Nova completed 19-of-35 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown but threw four interceptions, including a pair of picks late in the fourth quarter for the Scarlet Knights (4-2, 1-1), who had won four straight games entering the contest. "There are certain things you have to do in games like this because your margin of error is so small," Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said. "We didnt do those things this evening. The Cardinals came away with points on three of their first four drives. After leading the Cardinals down to the Rutgers seven, Bridgewaters pass to De La Cruz fell incomplete, and Louisville settled for a 24-yard John Wallace fieldd goal. https://www.cheapflames.com/" class="TyTxtSmlC">Flames Jerseys 2020. . Louisville punted on its next touch, but the Cardinals got the ball right back as James Burgess picked off Nova and returned it to the Rutgers 35. Two plays later, and less than a minute into the second quarter, Bridgewater connected with De La Cruz for a 34-yard touchdown. Perrys 1-yard TD plunge capped a 7-play, 80-yard drive to give Louisville a 17-0 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half. Nova got the Knights on the board with his 1-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Kroft to make it 17-7 at the break. Kyle Federico drilled a 36-yard field goal early in the fourth to pull Rutgers within a touchdown. Bridgewater drove deep into Rutgers territory on the ensuing drive, but was sacked and fumbled on the 5-yard line, and the Scarlet Knights took over. Nova, though, threw an interception four plays later. Louisville looked to make it a 10-point game, but Wallace missed a 45-yarder with just under six minutes left to keep Rutgers hopes alive. Those hopes were quickly erased as Nova was picked off once again. Bridgewater then connected with Rogers for a 6-yard touchdown to seal the win. Game Notes Thursday marked the last conference meeting between the two schools. Rutgers will become a member of the ACC next season. Damian Copeland caught eight passes for 115 yards for Louisville ... De La Cruz left the game in the third quarter with an apparent leg injury ... Rutgers holds a narrow 7-6 advantage in the all-time series ... Nova has eight interceptions this season. ' ' '
