CHICAGO -- Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Mark Trumbo will be sidelined for an extended period of time because of a stress fracture in his left foot. Nike Roshe One Slip . Manager Kirk Gibson said Trumbo will get a second opinion from Dr. Michael Lee in Arizona before a timetable for his return is determined. An MRI taken Wednesday revealed the injury after an X-ray showed no structural damage. The MRI also revealed some plantar fasciitis, which Trumbo had been dealing with since spring training. Trumbo wasnt sure how the stress fracture developed but thought he was overcompensating due to the plantar fasciitis. Trumbo is hitting .210, though he was tied for the National League lead with seven home runs and was second with 19 RBIs before Wednesdays game against the Chicago Cubs. Trumbo said he first experienced pain relating to the stress fracture when he ran to the outfield in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday against the Cubs. But couldnt pinpoint what specifically caused the injury. "The plantar (fasciitis) at times has been pretty bad but manageable," Trumbo said. "Thats what you have to do. Youve got to earn a living and play. This was to the point where I severely had to compensate running-wise to the point where I probably wouldnt be much of an asset on either side." Trumbo suffered a stress fracture to his right foot at the end of the 2011 season and needed 5 1/2 months to heal. He does not expect to need as much recovery time with this injury. "I think of myself as a good hockey player, but you look at the all-star game and the names that have been there in the past, like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Steve Yzerman -- or even the guys who play nowadays, like Joe Thornton -- and to think of yourself part of that group is hard," Hartnell told the Philadelphia Daily News. "It almost seems a little far-fetched at times. Now Ill be there playing with them." All but one of the leagues top-15 scorers entering play Wednesday will participate in the event. However, that group doesnt include Alex Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby, still the most recognizable hockey players on the planet. It also excludes Nicklas Lidstrom, Eric Staal and Patrick Sharp -- all leading men in last years all-star game -- among others. Ovechkin has been a staple of this event since bursting into the league but decided to cancel his ticket to Ottawa after receiving a three-game suspension earlier this week for a questionable hit. A serious knee injury -- he tore his anterior cruciate ligament -- and a string of ensuing calf problems in the same left leg limited his MLS career. While he signed a 2 1/2-year deal, essentially his TFC playing time lasted one calendar year, from July 2011 to July 2012, with 17 goals in 21 starts and 26 appearances. The six-foot-three Koevermans, whose contract expired at the end of 2013, returned to the Netherlands with his family on Dec. 14. He wanted to try one last comeback back home and signed with Utrecht, with both sides knowing that he was one injury away from retiring. "I was hoping to give them some goals, but it never came to that point," said Koevermans, who saw just 29 minutes action in three appearances. His calf gave out less than a month after he arrived. He returned to training one more time only to pull his calf muscle two weeks later. "I said enough is enough, its over. Im going to quit," he said. The eventual decision to retire as a player was not difficult. "I saw it coming," he said. Utrecht asked him to stay with the team until the end of the season, which he agreed to. "Its a good group of guys and I feel comfortable over there," he said. "I feel appreciated."
