ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Centre fielder Jackie Bradley had as much to do with saving a victory for the Boston Red Sox on Friday night as closer Koji Uehara did. Bradley, fighting an 0 for 27 slump, was put in for defence in the eighth inning by manager John Farrell and made two scintillating catches on the dead run to help preserve Allen Websters 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels. "Hes such an impact defender. Weve seen it many times, and he had an impact in this game tonight just with two innings of defence," Farrell said. "The one thing that has never been shaken in his time here has been his defence. Hes a confident defender, and he feels like he can roll out of bed and run to a spot where a ball is eventually going to land. Thankfully, hes got that instinct because it showed up twice here tonight." Bradley raced toward short right-centre to prevent a leadoff single by Mike Trout leading off the eighth, then sprinted to the alley in right-centre and made a leaping grab of Howie Kendricks extra-base bid leading off the ninth. "It all happened so fast. I was just hoping the wall didnt stop me before I was able to get to it," Bradley said. "On the first play, Trout had two strikes on him -- but Im not playing in with that guy. I saw it right off the bat, so I just put my head down. It was much easier than the one to the wall because I could keep my eyes on it." Mike Napoli homered against former batterymate Jered Weaver and Yoenis Cespedes hit a two-run double for the Red Sox. Webster (2-1) allowed two runs and four hits over 6 2-3 innings in his third start since getting recalled from Triple-A on July 26, when Jake Peavy was traded to San Francisco. The right-hander struck out three, walked two and hit two batters. Uehara got three outs during a shaky ninth to get his 24th save. Weaver (12-7) lost for the first time since June 16, allowing four runs and seven hits through six innings after going 5-0 in his previous nine starts. The Angels fourth straight loss matched their longest skid of the season and dropped them four games behind AL West-leading Oakland, following the Athletics 6-5 win over Minnesota. "Obviously, it could have gone a little better," Weaver said. "I really wanted to come in and throw a good game and it wasnt really the case. I was kind of battling the whole night. I couldnt make pitches. Thats all there is to it." Last Saturday at Fenway Park against the Yankees, Webster was staked to a 3-0 lead in the second inning before walking his first three batters in the third and giving up four runs en route to a 6-4 loss. "It was an encouraging outing for him," Farrell said. "He was much more under control tonight and showed the ability to make adjustments more readily than the last time out. Theres no denying his potential. We see it every time we put the ball in his hand." But Napoli, who caught Weaver during their first five seasons in the big leagues, helped make sure there wouldnt be a repeat of that scenario for Webster when he hit his 14th homer to left-centre with two out in the fifth. It was his third against Weaver. TRAINERS ROOM Red Sox: Outfielder Allen Craig, who has played only one game since he was acquired from St. Louis on July 31, got a second opinion on his sprained left foot from Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, North Carolina. There were no new findings. Angels: Reliever Mike Morin, who hasnt pitched since July 31 because of a laceration on his left foot, has been doing some long toss and will continue to through the weekend before he gets back on a mound early next week. ON DECK Red Sox: Right-hander Clay Buchholz (5-7, 6.20 ERA) has never had a season with 30 or more starts -- despite the fact that all but two of his 141 big league appearances have come as a starter. This is the fifth straight season he has spent time on the DL. Angels: Right-hander Garrett Richards (12-4, 2.58 ERA) is coming off his first big league shutout, a five-hitter at Dodger Stadium in which he threw a career-high 122 pitches. As Valanciunas was whistled for a rare technical toward the end of the third quarter - a result of waving his hand at an official after being called for a foul - Lowry pulled the Raptors sophomore aside, corralling him by his jersey and patting him on the back. "Youve got to be smart in certain situations," Lowry told the young centre. "I just tried to say look, you cant waste your money." "Yeah, he was trying to calm me down," Valanciunas said of the conversation with his point guard, speaking with a mischievous look on his face following the Raptors 98-91 win over the Cavaliers. "That technical foul cost me, so I feel bad now." He shouldnt. The tech will cost Valanciunas a small fraction of his next paycheque but the unbridled emotion he played with in the second half of Fridays game was the driving force of Torontos rapid turnaround. Valanciunas, like the rest of his team, got off to an ugly start. The Raptors were fortunate to be down by only five going into the break, scoring just 39 points in the first half and shooting 33 per cent from the field. For the third straight game coming out of the All-Star break, Valanciunas got a quick hook in the first quarter. The seven-footer has been strangely quiet of late, averaging under six points in four games entering Fridays contest. His minutes have been down, as hes battled growing pains on the defensive end. After being sent to the bench midway through the opening quarter, he sat for around 12 minutes of game time before re-entering. Somewhere, somehow, someone lit a fire under the sophomore and not only did it spark him, it ignited the whole team. Valanciunas was a possessed man coming out of the halftime break. He was aggressive on defence, manic on the boards and dominant down low. He ran the floor with a purpose, worked to establish position, then demanded the ball. As he turned to face up Clevelands Tyler Zeller midway through the third, he pump faked - not once, but twice - took the contact and drained the jumper. Before completing the three-point play, he pumped his fist in the air and yelled out to the crowd, or the Cavs, or his teammates, or whoever was listening. His face was as red as the logo at centre court. He meant business. "Hes going to have ups and downs but tonight he was intense," Lowry said of Valanciunas, who had 10 points and four rebounds in the third quarter, finishing the game with 18 points and eight boards. "He really kind of carried us with his intensity and his passion and fire tonight." The 21-year-olds inspired play lifted the Raptors in what turned out to be a game-deciding third quarter. Toronto scored 37 points in the frame - two fewer than its first-half total - and shot 70 per centt, turning a five-point deficit at intermission into an 11-point advantage going into the fourth.dddddddddddd. "Hes our enforcer in the paint," said Amir Johnson, who returned to the starting lineup Friday after coming off the bench in his two previous outings, nursing an ankle injury. "When he gets going, everybody else plays good and that just gets everybody open shots when hes scoring in the paint." Johnson also came to life in the second half, the two bigs even hooked up on an alley-oop lob - from Johnson to Valanciunas - late in game. "We had to give our bigs a wakeup call," Dwane Casey said. "They turned it around in the second half. We reminded them, theres more to the game than the offensive end." "You can do a lot of different things other than make shots," he continued, "and I thought the second half, Amir Johnson and JV worked at it and got it done." Although Valanciunas helped turn the game, the best Raptor on the night - from start to finish - was fellow sophomore Terrence Ross, hands down. Ross scored a team-high 20 points, shooting 9-for-18, but his most important contribution was on the defensive end, where he went toe-to-toe with All-Star Game MVP Kyrie Irving. When the game began, Ross was assigned to check former Raptor Jarrett Jack while Lowry defended Irving. Early in the first quarter, there was a switch and Ross ended up on the Cavs point guard and leading scorer. It stuck for the rest of the evening, and Ross did not disappoint. The Raptors forward used his length and athleticism to frustrate Irving, forcing him to launch tough perimeter jumpers, keeping him out of the paint and holding him to 3-of-16 shooting. "He can score in a lot of different ways [and] get his teammates involved," Ross said of Irving, who ended up with 17 points and nine assists for Cleveland. "So if you slow him down, you slow the team down." "He had to chase [Irving] everywhere," Johnson said of Ross. "He chased him off screens, he didnt quit on plays and thats how you have to play a guy like that. [Irvings] so crafty and hes always moving so you just have to keep a body on him and stay in front of him. [Ross] did a great job." It was Canada Basketball Night at the Air Canada Centre Friday, as local product and first overall pick Anthony Bennett made his NBA debut in Toronto. Bennett, who continues to improve after a slow start to the season, knocked down his first two shots and finished with nine points in 15 minute of action while fellow Canadian Tristan Thompson scored 13 to go along with nine boards. In snapping Clevelands six-game winning streak, the Raptors picked up their 30th win of the campaign, doing so in just 55 games. It took them 78 contests to reach the 30-win mark a year ago. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' '

(SportsNetwork.com) - Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys will meet on "Sunday Night Football" at AT&T Stadium with everything at stake. The NFC East rivals will battle in the regular season finale and the winner will claim a division title. The action can be seen on TSN at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt. Catch Football Night in America on TSN2 at 7pm et/4pm pt. The Eagles last won the NFC East in 2010 and the Cowboys were division winners in 2009, when they beat the Eagles in Week 17 and in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Dallas put itself in position for an NFC East title by outlasting the Washington Redskins, 24-23, Sunday at FedEx Field. One week after blowing a 23-point halftime lead versus Green Bay, the Cowboys displayed resilience and poise in the nations capital and oft-criticized quarterback Tony Romo battled through back pain to throw a game-winning 10-yard TD pass to DeMarco Murray with 1:08 remaining in the game. Romo scrambled on that balky back and fired a pass to Murray, who barreled into the right side of the end zone for his second touchdown of the game. It appeared Romo suffered a knee injury late in the fourth quarter, but he later revealed it was his back that bothered him. "I tweaked it in the game," Romo said after the Cowboys erased a 23-14 deficit. "For whatever reason, just the twist or whatever that was, definitely just made it not feel comfortable." The back issue is worse than anticipated for Romo and he will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair the problem. Romo received an epidural injection this week to deaden the pain, but it couldnt prevent him from going under the knife. "We spent the week exhausting all options regarding Tonys situation, treatment, rehab all the different things. We consulted a lot of different people on this," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said. "We just felt like, as we discussed it, as yesterday wore on, that this was the best decision for him and our organization moving forward. We felt like it was better to have this done sooner rather than later." Romo, who agreed to a six-year, $108 million contract extension with $55 million in guarantees and a $25 million signing bonus in the offseason, threw for 3,828 yards with 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 15 games. Backup Kyle Orton will get the start and newly signed Jon Kitna will serve as his backup versus the Eagles. Orton has seen action in one game this season, passing for 40 yards and completing 3-of-5 passes in a loss at Chicago. Orton achieved success in his career with Chicago and Denver, and offensive coordinator Bill Callahan has confidence in the former Purdue star. "I think hes done a fantastic job with his preparation," Callahan said. "Leading up to this point, I think hes done tremendous, so I think its seamless in terms of transition and what hes done." Meanwhile, Murray basically carried the Cowboys past the rival Redskins. Murray ran for 96 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries and caught three passes for 15 yards and that big score at the end. He has rushed for at least 80 yards in five of the last six games, averaging 102.3 rushing yards per game in that time. Murray eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career. "Its a great opportunity to be here. A lot of teams ... their season is done right now," Murray said. "We have the opportunity to win this next one and move on." The Cowboys were in that position last season, but dropped a 28-18 decision at Washington and were home for the playoffs for a third straight year. They lost to the Giants in 2011 in Week 17 as well. Dallas ended a two-game losing streak and won for the third time in five weeks. It has won at least eight games for a third year in a row. Philadelphia has vastly exceeded last seasons win total of four games (4-12) with a 9-7 mark after destroying the Chicago Bears, 54-11, Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles were pegged to win maybe five or six games under first-year head coach Chip Kelly, but are in position to win the division and host a playoff game. They came out firing off the jump versus a Bears team looking to secure an NFC North title and led 21-0 after the first quarter. The game had no meaning for the Eagles as far as wrapping up a division is concerned, but they played tough for 60 minutes and racked up 514 yards of offense. Eagles running back and NFL rushing leader LeSean McCoy (1,476) had 133 yards and a pair of touchdown on 18 carries and caught six passes for 29 yards. Bryce Brown also ran for 100 yards, posting 115 and a score on nine touches. Nick Foles completed 21-of-25 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns. He did not thrown an interception for the Eagles, winners in six of their last seven games. Philly has ripped off four straight wins at home and Foles is looking forward to a rematch with Dallas, which recorded a 17-3 win at the Linc back on Oct. 20. Foles had his worst game of the season in that one, passing for 80 yards and completing just 11-of-29 passes before exiting with a concussion. "Im excited to go to Dallas and play another game," said Foles. "Its a huge game. Everyone knows whats on the line." McCoy finished with 55 yards on 18 carries in the first meeting with Dallas, which has won three straight and seven of the last 10 meetings with the Eagles and leads the all-time series by a 62-47 margin. The Cowboys are 5-0 against the NFC East, while the Eagles have an 8-3 mark in conference play. McCoy talked about this upcoming game. "I can tell you they didnt see the best of the Eagles," McCoy said. "They didnt see the best of Nick Foles or LeSean McCoy. "They didnt see the best of us, but they will this Sunday, so itll be a different story." Philadelphia is 6-2 since the loss versus Dallas and its offense emerged in that span. The Eagles, who are 5-2 on the road, are first in rushing yards per game (161.9) and second in both total yards (420.7) and points scored (27.9). Dallas is 5-2 at home and has one of the worst defenses in the league, sitting last in yards allowed (418.6), 31st in passing yards allowed, 27th against the run (127.9) and 26th in points allowed (27.2). "Were all excited," Eagles linebacker and leading tackler DeMeco Ryans said of this weekends matchup. "Were pumped about it. You cant write it any better. Its for the NFC East championship and in Dallas. Were pumped about it. Like (Chip Kelly) said, our playoffs start next week and its win or go home and thats the attitude that we all have." WHAT TO WATCH FOR The Cowboys make up for an inept defense with some playmakers on offense. Dez Bryant had 73 yards and a touchdown on four receptions Sunday and has scored in each of the last four games. The mercurial wide receiver posted 110 yards on eight catches in the first meeting with the Eagles and will try to get the best of them again. Bryant will face an Eagles defense that is 30th in both passing yards allowed (285.2) and total yards allowed (392.7). Philadelphia, however, has stepped up its defensive play in recent weeks and against big name receivers in Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson and Brandon Marshall. Look for Eagles defensive back Cary Williams to get involved early and often with both his play and commentary on the field. "Its everything," Williams said of Sundays showdown. "Everything. Everything we worked so hard for in the offseason, camp, preseason, up until this moment. It means everything. Its the biggest one we got." Williams and Co. must be prepared for the other Dallas receivers in Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams and Miles Austin. All three came up huge during the Cowboys two fourth-quarter drives in which they converted three third downs and two fourth downs. "Youve got guys playing like that, that stuff is contagious," Bryant said of spreading the ball around. "It just runs through the whole team. I can roll with that anytime of the day, anywhere, it doesnt matter. Im behind it. Im with that." The Cowboys also have tight end Jason Witten, who owns seven TD catches and 1,281 receiving yards in 20 career games against the Eagles. Philadelphia will try to disrupt Ortons patience and timing in the pocket and recorded five sacks on Bears QB Jay Cutler. Trent Cole recorded three of those sacks and Mychal Kendricks had the other two. Ryans and Vinny Curry had the sacks on Romo in the first meeting. As for the Eagles offense, McCoy sets the tone and is prepared to back up his words that the Cowboys will be seeing a different team than a few months ago. He is 37 yards rushing shy of tying Wilbert Montgomerys single-season franchise record (1,513 in 1979). McCoy is trying to be the first Eagle to lead the league in rushing since Steve Van Buren in 1949. Foles will look to add to touchdown total with receivers DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper and tight end Brent Celek. Rookie TE Zach Ertz has been more involved in recent weeks, too. OVERALL ANALYSIS Garretts job could be on the line Sunday because patience is running thin with this teams inability to consistently reach the playoffs and dominate the division. Garrett was bailed out by a hobbling Romo and a consistent Murray in Sundays come-from-behind win at Washington. But now Romo will be a spectator during Dallas run toward the playoffs. The Cowboys have the advantage of playing at home, but it didnt work out in their favor two weeks ago versus the Packers and also in an exciting loss to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Orton could shock the football world by keeping it simple and letting his playmakers do the talking. As for the Eagles, they exceeded expectations this season and laid the foundation for a promising future under Kelly. Just dont tell him that. "The playoffs just start a week early for both teams," Kelly said. "If you win, you get an opportunity to keep playing. If you lose, youre going home. This is really just the first week of the playoffs." Im hoping thats what this did. I think its going to carry us a long way,” Clarkson said on TSN Radio 1050 Wednesday afternoon. “And I think for teams to be successful thats the type of locker room you need to have – you have to have each others back.” The rugged winger was apologetic, but at the same time proud of the way his team responded to an incident which resulted in star forward Phil Kessel being banned for the remainder of the pre-season and Sabres coach Ron Rolston fined for “player selection and team conduct.” “The phone calls that I got from around the league, my teammates thanking me, that means more than what anyone else says. Well move on from this, well squash it and Ill push these guys to be ready and when I get back Ill be raring to go.” In trying to explain the reasoning behind his decision to leave the bench upon seeing the Sabres six-foot-eight enforcer John Scott initiate a confrontation with Kessel, Clarkson said his instincts took over. “Its a tough because if you felt like your brother or your sister or a family member was in trouble what would your reaction be? “I think what I got out of it was to next time to use my head and not my heart, but I went with my heart.dddddddddddd I think Ive got to where I am by playing with my heart and using my heart a lot and I think that was a reaction with my heart.” The Mimico, ON native who signed a seven-year, $36.75-million with his hometown team in the off-season will now be forced to make his debut on Oct. 25 in Columbus. “All I can do now is to push these guys in practice…I will be the biggest supporter and Im hoping to travel with the day, but Ill be ready for that day when it comes." Being undrafted after spending three years with the OHLs Kitchener Rangers, the 29-year-olds path to the NHL has not come easy and he is confident his past experiences will help him deal with the pressure that comes with signing a lucrative free agent deal. “If I came here when I was younger in my career it may be different, but now I have a very supportive family at home and Im coming here and Im going to be myself. Its going to the front of the net, its creating plays creating room on the ice, blocking shots.” Despite the suspension, his time in Toronto has been a positive one thus far and he feels like the Leafs are primed to build upon the teams first playoff berth in nearly a decade. Escobar to make it 3-0 in

Each week, TSN.ca Fantasy Editor Scott Cullen, NFL Editor Ben Fisher, and Isaac Owusu discuss three hot fantasy football topics. Will Marc Trestman be benching a QB1 in Josh McCown when Jay Cutler returns healthy? Cullen: For the last three weeks, yes, Josh McCown has been performing like a QB1, but that alone does not a QB1 make. Prior to this unexpected bit of brilliance from a 34-year-old journeyman, McCowns last 300-yard passing game was in September, 2007! That said, I could easily justify the Bears riding the hot hand until its not hot anymore because the NFL is unrelenting and the Bears can ill-afford to take a game or two for Jay Cutler to find his form. Of course, in addition to being unrelenting, the NFL is a business, and when prospective free agent quarterback Jay Cutler is ready to return, expect the Bears to go back to him, as a conditioned reflex – remember, starting quarterbacks dont lose their job due to injuries…at least not to a 34-year-old backup, but ask Alex Smith, the story is different if that backup is Colin Kaepernick. Fisher: I agree with pretty much everybody else that going back to Cutler over McCown at this point would be a mistake on Trestmans part, but Ill stop short of saying hes benching a QB1. McCown averages out as a QB1 over the past four weeks but thats largely aided by his tremendous Monday Night performance this past week. His five starts previous to that, McCown ranked as a high-end QB2. His journeyman status makes it hard for me to believe hed continue putting up 30+ point games like he did against the Cowboys if given the chance, but hes still a tough QB to lose for fantasy teams. Owusu: In a word, yes. But, its not so much about the guy taking the snaps, but the guy calling the plays. Trestman has put together an offence that would appear to be at the centre of a controversy, but unlike the Alex Smith/Colin Kaepernick situation in San Francisco last season, his coaching staff and players have stood firm in supporting the injured Cutler as their starter. Chicagos quarterback position, whether it be (a healthy) Cutler or McCown, remains worthy of a start this deep in the fantasy playoffs, due to having what can be argued as the leagues most talented receiving corps, featuring Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Matt Forte and Martellus Bennett. Its almost an expectation that whoever is throwing the ball would rack up 200+ yards and at least two touchdowns. In fact this season Cutler has had five of those games and McCown has had four, coming off his third straight 300+ yard passing game. The main concerns with Cutler would be a matter of him being fully healthy going into the game and getting back in sync with the plethora of weapons at his disposal. The latter shouldnt be a major concern, as evidence by the 250 yards and touchdown pass he threw in his Week 10 return (before leaving again to yet another injury). This deep into the season, with all the implications, fantasy owners would prefer the Bears keep the hot McCown out there, but even if Cutler comes in, there shouldnt be a downgrade in performance. Also, owners should consider that this week the Bears are in Cleveland, a team that hasnt held a QB to under two touchdowns passes since Week 5, so whichever quarterback the Bears turn to should be a dependable option and all the Bears receiving targets remain must-start status. Trust in the quarterback whisperer, Marc Trestman. Has Cordarelle Patterson proven enough for a fantasy playoff team to take a flyer on him? Cullen: Patterson had a breakthrough game last week – five catches, 141 yards and a touchdown – and he is probably the most dangerous Vikings receiver for the rest of the season, but he had one catch for four yards in Week 12 and still has Matt Cassel throwing to him, so there are reasons to be hesitant on Patterson. I have him ranked at 35 for Week 15, which puts him on the edge of either WR3 or FLEX positioning. Fisher: Nope. One good week does not a starter make. Patterson has looked better in recent weeks, highlighted by his 20-point performance in Week 13, and I think hes got a shot at being a solid WR2 next season, but he still has Matt Cassel throwing him the ball. I cant rely on Patterson to score more than eight or nine points per week (his previous season-high) the rest of the way and that isnt going to cut it for a playoff team. Owusu: The regular season is three games away from completion and it almost appears that the Minnesota Vikings finally figured out how to use the elusive receiver that they traded up to pick in the draft. Patterson is worthy of taking a flyer on based on the increased attention that hes gotten. Heading into Week 5s bye week, Patterson only saw 2.25 targets per game, however in the nine games following he has seen that number boost to 5.5 per game, and garnered 7.75 looks in his last four games. In last Sundays wild matchup against at the Baltimore Ravens, Pattersons seven targets and five catches was one thing, but then there was the 114 yards he gained after the catch. Patterson has shown that he is Mr. High Risk/High Reward with the ability to turn the smallest plays into large gains, similar to another guy who once wore No. 84 for the Vikings about a decade ago. Patterson is not just a threat on offence but special teams as well, so if youre in a league that rewards individual players for their returns along with their catches and rushes then Patterson should appeal to you as a low-end WR2 or a definite Flex going forward in the playoffs. The Vikings are at home against the high-powered Philadelphia Eagles and will likely not have their star running back Adrian Peterson, so expect them to be playing a bit of catch up in this game, and Matt Cassel should keep looking for the blossoming receiver. For the Gronk owners, which replacement will prove more valuable: Dennis Pitta, recently returned from a hip injury; or Jacob Tamme, filling for Wes Welker in the slot in Denver? Cullen: If forced to choose for the rest of the season, I prefer Pitta, because in his first game of the season for the Ravens, he was targeted 11 times, tied with Marlon Brown for most on the Ravens against Minnesota. There is also the matter of sustainability. Tammes value is tied to Wes Welkers concussion and if Welker returns at some point in the next few weeks, that would dramatically cut out the looks that Tamme would presume to get in the slot. In Pittas case, hes a good bet to be a prime target for Joe Flacco over the rest of the season. Fisher: I think it depends if youre playing the short game or the long game. I think Tamme, filling in for a concussed Wes Welker in the slot in Denver, will have a more productive Week 14 in what should be a high-scoring Thursday Nighter. Tamme had four catches on five targets in a little more than two quarters action; thats a handsome stat line projected out to a full game. If youre a semifinals underdog, he might be the way to go to secure a spot in the finals at all cost. But if youre playing the long game, Pitta, who returned from injury to put up a double digit point total in his season debut last week, should be able to supply two productive weeks, as where Tamme could become useless in Week 15 if Welker returns. Owusu: As appealing as it is to take an available Peyton Manning target in Jacob Tamme, the answer for this week, next week and however long your fantasy playoffs may last is Dennis Pitta. Throughout his career, the Baltimore Ravens tight end has been a safety net for Joe Flacco. Pitta was projected to be a top-five pick at tight end prior to his injury and in his first game of the season last week he rewarded owners who took a chance on him in the playoffs with six catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. The worry about Pitta initially was the expectation for him to be on a limited snap-count, but he made the most of the 11 targets that came his way. Tamme was a pleasant surprise last Sunday filling in for the injured Wes Welker, seeing six targets and pulling in four catches for 47 yards. On the field, theres always a chance that teams forget about Tamme while theyre busy focusing on Mannings three other fantasy studs Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas. Tamme should see some involvement in the Denver Broncos explosive offence Thursday night, but expectations for his value to be greater than Pittas for Baltimore should be tempered. Though Pitta was in for 36 snaps, two of his 11 targets came in the red zone. Facing the Detroit Lions who have a sweltering run defence, theres a tall order for Flacco to deliver in the passing game so expect a good dose of Pitta. Unless its a Percy Harvin type of setback, he should see increased work as a means for the Ravens to make a playoff push. Alcides Escobar had three hits and Omar Infante also drove in two runs for the Royals, who followed up a sweep at the hands of Minnesota last weekend by sweeping Houston and then taking the first of their three-game set against the Twins this weekend. Ricky Nolasco (1-2) gave up five runs on 11 hits in 5 2-3 innings for the Twins. He was coming off a 7-1 win over Kansas City in which he allowed one run on four hits in eight innings. Vargas (2-0), who signed a $32 million, four-year deal in the off-season, allowed seven hits while striking out four in another dazzling start. The crafty left-hander lowered his ERA to 1.24 while going at least seven innings in each of his four outings this season. Vargas put runners on base each of the first five innings, though he was never in serious trouble. Only twice did a runner reach second base and each time a lazy fly ball ended the inning. Even when the Twins hit a ball hard, Alex Gordon was there to make a play. Far Hills, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The United States Golf Association announced on Tuesday that Robin Burke has been selected to captain the 2016 United States Curtis Cup team. We are very happy to add Robin to the impressive list of Curtis Cup players who have gone on to serve as captain, said Dot Paluck, chairman of the USGA Womens Committee. As inscribed on the trophy, the Curtis Cup Match has long served to stimulate friendly rivalry among women golfers. Robin will undoubtedly carry on this fine tradition. Burke was the 1997 U.S. Womens Amateur Championship runner-up and she has competed in over 35 USGA individual championships. She was the stroke-play medalist at the 2003 U.S. Womens Mid-Amateur and she reached the semifinals at that championship on three occasions. To captain the 2016 Curtis Cup team and represent the United States of America and the USGA in Europe, where the game began is an honor and a privilege, said Burke. When I was selected to play on the 1998 Curtis Cup team, it was the most gratifying experience in my golf career. My captain, Barbara McIntire, made a huge impression on my game and in the way I conduct myself both in and out of golf. She is a great player and person. The 2016 matches will take place at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club near Dublin, Ireland from June 10-12. The competition, held every two years, pits a team of female amateurs from the U.S. against one from Great Britain and Ireland. The U.S. squad beat Great Britain and Ireland at the 2014 Curtis Cup, 13-7, at St. Louis Country Club. The United States leads the all-time series, 28-7-3. Asics Noosa Tri 9 Hombre Baratas .C. -- Michael Jordan is engaged to longtime girlfriend Yvette Prieto, a Cuban-American model hes been dating for three years. WASHINGTON -- Even with the teams "X-factor" suspended, the Washington Wizards had a No. 42 sitting next to the bench. The 57-year-old with greying hair couldnt box out or grab a rebound, but owner Ted Leonsis waved his red towel and egged on a cheering crowd that chanted "Free Nene!" The Wizards did just fine without the suspended Brazilian forward. They scored the first 14 points and beat the Chicago Bulls 98-89 on Sunday to take a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference series. "I thought it was pretty hilarious that Ted had Nenes jersey on," Wizards guard Bradley Beal said. "It kind of threw me off for a minute, but then I looked and seen it was Ted." Nene or not, the Wizards did what theyve done all series: Take a quick lead and force the Bulls to use up energy trying to catch up. It was 15-8 in Game 3, 29-12 in Game 2, 19-13 in Game 1. Washington, seeking to win a playoff series for only the third time since the 1970s, can finish off the Bulls on the road in Game 5 on Tuesday night. "We keep seeing this same kind of start for the last couple of games, and its frustrating," said Taj Gibson, who came off the bench to lead the Bulls with a career-high 32 points. "It seems like at times we get overhyped with just thinking were going to be OK, were just that good. But in this league its not about how talented you are, its about how hard you work and how much effort you put when you start the game off, and I dont think we did that." Nene was suspended for the game after grabbing Jimmy Butlers head in the fourth quarter of the Wizards Game 3 loss. Wall called Nene the "X-factor" this week, and for good reason: Since the March 2012 trade that brought Nene to D.C., Washington is 65-63 when he plays and 21-41 when he doesnt. That said, the club did hold its own by winning 12 of 21 when Nene went down with a knee injury late in the regular season, an absence coach Randy Wittman said might have been a "blessing in disguise" that helped prepare them for Sunday. "I saw our guys bond together," Wittman said. "Like, Thats OK, all right. Big fellows not going to be here, but thats OK. And we were in tune right froom the start.dddddddddddd" Trevor Ariza, getting some of the early looks that might have gone to Nene, scored a career playoff-high 30 points, making 6 of 10 3-pointers. Beal had 18 points, and John Wall added 15 points and 10 assists for the Wizards, who forced 16 turnovers and committed only six. "I think were a smart enough group to understand that when one of your pieces goes down, you have to find ways and will to win," Ariza said. "Tonight was my night to take on the scoring load." Gibson went 13 for 16 from the field for Chicago, but his teammates combined to go 22 for 62. He made more field goals in the first half ( than the rest of the Bulls combined (7). Mike Dunleavy, who scored 35 points in Game 3, scored only six. Dunleavy jammed his left thumb attempting to take a charge in the fourth quarter. The thumb was swollen and was X-rayed after the game, but he said he didnt think it was broken. "It probably doesnt really matter," he said. "Its my left hand and its not going to make a difference for me." Chicagos Kirk Hinrich committed four turnovers, and NBA Defensive Player of the Year Joakim Noah had a quiet 10 points and 15 rebounds against the Nene-less frontcourt. Washington stormed to a 14-0 lead, with Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau calling a timeout after each Wizards "touchdown." "Very disappointing to get in a hole like that," Thibodeau said. "I put that on me, and Ive got to get it right. ... Its got to change or our season will be over." Trevor Booker started in Nenes spot and had nine rebounds and three blocks. Beal called Booker "a huge X-factor" -- apparently the Wizards are cornering the market on that particular commodity. "Just because they didnt have Nene," Gibson said, "they just came out and played even harder." Notes: Arizas six 3-pointers tied a Wizards playoff record. ... Wittman, who played during the Detroit Pistons "Bad Boys" era, was asked to compare todays game to those rough-and-tumble days. "Not even close," Wittman said. "Its like sixth-grade flag football compared to NFL tackle football." cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

It appears the UFC will foot the bill for former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierres pending knee surgery to repair a torn ACL. President Dana White confirmed to MMAjunkie that despite St-Pierres "frozen" contract status, the surgery in Los Angeles this week will still be covered by the UFC because he is not fully retired. St-Pierres insurance policy has only been in existence since 2011, which raised a few concerns as to whether his injury and subsequent surgery would fall within the parameters of the policy. "We have health insurance for the guys," White said. "It should be covered even if the contract is frozen. Hes still under contract; hes still a UFC fighter." The former champion successfully defended his title for the ninth consecutive time against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November. After the fight, St-Pierre announced he would be taking a leave of absence from the octagon to tend to personal issues. He would eventually vacate the title - now held by Hendricks - but continued to train in his time off in Montreal. Last week, he announced on Twitter that he tore the ACL in his right knee. St-Pierre underwent the same surgery on his left knee in 2011 and was sidelined nearly 19 months. Womens Derrick Thomas Jersey . The 26-year-old linebacker was released by the club on Monday. Womens Ryan Lilja Jersey . In fact, hes been there on more than one occasion. CHICAGO -- Paul Konerko will likely be watching from the bench for the start of what figures to be his 16th and final opening day with the Chicago White Sox And the 38-year-old first baseman is comfortable with that decision, which ends a streak of 15 consecutive opening-day starts. Konerkos new role is as a right-handed-hitting platoon player at designated hitter. With Minnesota starting right-hander Ricky Nolasco, left-handed-hitting Adam Dunn will start. "I just think its the way it should be," Konerko said Sunday as both teams conducted voluntary workouts. "Its just not part of the blueprint of what were going to do here. ... Its pretty simple. Theres a plan and roles of when guys play and when they dont." A six-time All-Star, Konerko agreed in December to a $2.5 million, one-year contract. White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Konerko made the choice to stay with the platoon. "In talking to Paulie, its not an easy decision," Ventura said, "but when you go over how youre going to do this and make this work, he made it clear this is kind of what he signed up to do." Left-hander Chris Sale starts for the White Sox. He was surprised by Konerkos decision but said he respected it. "I think he should be out there," Sale said. "What hes done for this city, what hes done for this team, who hes been throughout his career, I think hes earned that. But what he says, goes." Starting his second White Sox opener, Sale faces Nolasco in only the third time opening-day meeting between the teams and the first since 19993.dddddddddddd. After a lengthy and severe Chicago winter, Mondays forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a 65-degree temperature. The White Sox are coming off a 63-99 season, their poorest record since 1970. Their projected lineup features five players making their opening-day debuts, including Cuban slugger Jose Abreu, who signed a $68 million, six-year contract. "I dont really know where Im going to be hitting, but it doesnt matter," Abreu said through a translator. "To be honest with you, thats irrelevant. Im ready to hit wherever they put me. Im here to help the team." Minnesota (66-96) committed $73 million to sign Nolasco (13-11 for Miami and the Los Angeles Dodgers) and Phil Hughes in an effort to rebuild its pitching. "Its important to get off to a good start," Nolasco said. "I know theyve been struggling the last couple years, but weve been working hard as a staff trying to go out there do quick, efficient innings, get us back in the dugout and try to swing the bats." Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Nolasco is ready for the season. "Rickys game on," he said. "Im not worried about him one bit. Hell go until he tells us hes tired. Hes very sure of what he needs to do to win." Despite snow piles and a frozen field earlier this month, Roger Bossards groundskeepers got the playing surface ready at U.S. Cellular Field. LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Chicago Bears admit theyre underachievers, and now they hope no one calls them quitters. With their playoff chances virtually shot, the Bears are looking to play out the string. Any miracle Bears playoff chances involve winning every remaining game while Seattle, Detroit and Dallas lose all of theirs, so the 5-7 Bears are trying to finish their games against Dallas, then New Orleans, Detroit and Minnesota without a decline in effort. Its just frustrating because as a team, the talent we have on our team, we definitely are underachieving, running back Matt Forte said. A few guys have to do some soul-searching for the rest of the season and plan how they want to play the rest of these games.Against Detroit on Thursday the offence finally found a way to score in the first quarter after six straight games without a first-quarter point, then vanished. They havent scored more than 28 points this season. The defence allowed 34 points against a Lions team that had been held without a touchdown two straight games. Two key holding penalties on centre Roberto Garza helped slow the offence Thursday. Were a team that has certainly hurt itself throughout the year with the penalties that we have had, taking ourselves out of field position, scoring position on a consistent basis and were (coaches) on it all the time, coach Marc Trestman said. Weve got smart players, they dont want to do it.They have the ability to do it right and we have to continue to move forward and push them through this so we can get better as we move forward.Defensively, the Bears have to cope with more injuries. Safety Chris Conte left the Lions game with an eye injury after suffering concussions and shoulder injuries earlier this season. Cornerback Tim Jennings left with a groin injury. The Bears played without starters Lance Briggs (groin) and Jeremiah Ratliff (knee) due to injuries.Theyll toss that problem in with a defence that has allowed 350 yards or more nine times and has allowed 140 points in the last three road games.Weve got to tackle, defensive end Jared Allen said. We had some opportunities (Thursday), we had some third downs get away from us, and weve got to find more ways to create turnovers.Cutler and other players insisted no one will quit even with the Bears all but certain to miss the playoffs for the seventh time in eight seasons.I think with the guys we have and character and integrity of the guys, I dont think anybodys going to quit, Cutler said. I think the coaches wont let us, theyre not going to quit on us.I think the leaders of the team will make sure that we finish this right.Allen said it now becomes a matter of pride and being a spoiler. You play every game for what it is, he said. Misery loves company, right? You try to take everybody down with you.You play because its your job, you play because this is what we love to do. You go out there and if youre willing to shut it down, youre willing to get embarrassed, I dont want you on my team. And I dont think we have one guy (like that) in here. Asics Gt 2000 Mujer . Ben Roethlisberger limped around the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room, unsure if his injured left foot might send him to the sideline next week. The Pittsburgh quarterback certainly had plenty of company in the trainers room after the Steelers 17-10 loss at Houston on Sunday. The Steelers also lost linebacker James Harrison (eye), running back Rashard Mendenhall (hamstring), defensive end Aaron Smith (foot) and linebacker Jason Worilds (left quad) during the game. Down the hall in the Texans locker room, Houston was concerned about All-Pro wide receiver Andre Johnson, who left with a hamstring injury. It was a tough day for injuries all around the league, with Miami quarterback Chad Henne (left shoulder), New England linebacker Jerod Mayo (knee), Dallas safety Gerald Sensabaugh (concussion), Tennessee safety Chris Hope (broken arm), Seattle wide receiver Mike Williams (concussion) and Cleveland cornerback Joe Haden (sprained knee) and wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi (shoulder) all leaving their games. Green Bay wide receiver Donald Driver left in the second quarter of the Packers 49-23 win over Denver with an apparent left knee injury, but returned in the second half -- then caught a touchdown from Aaron Rodgers in the fourth quarter. San Diegos Vincent Jackson was in and out of the Chargers 26-16 victory over Miami with a muscle strain in one of his legs. In Houston, Roethlisberger left in a walking boot after he was sacked five times and hurried eight more behind Pittsburghs injury-plagued offensive line. He hurt his foot on the second-to-last series when he was tackled from behind, but remained in the game until the end. He limped into the locker room about 20 minutes after the game with his arms draped around a pair of Steelers employees and a bandage and a bag of ice wrapped around his injured foot. He sat alone at his chair with his head down and looked to be gazing at his foot for several minutes before putting on the walkking boot to limp to the showers.dddddddddddd Roethlisberger had an X-ray after the game but said he didnt know the results. He said he wasnt sure if hed be able to play next week, but talked about how he played last year after breaking his other foot. "You know me -- if I can be out there, Im going to be out there. Thats so for next week, too," he said. "If I can do it and if I have to cast it up -- we saw I had to do that last year. I casted up my foot for the last half of the year. If we have to do it, Ill do it." Harrison left with an apparent eye injury in the second quarter when he was injured in a collision with a Houston player in the second quarter. He left the field after the play and television shots showed him shaking his head on the bench. Meanwhile, Johnson turned upfield in the second quarter, fell awkwardly forward and clutched the back of his right leg. He was back on the sideline late to watch Houstons win, but Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Johnson would undergo tests Sunday night, so his status remained uncertain for next weeks game against Oakland. "Now, if we have to go without him for a period," Kubiak said, "were going to have to really ask some guys to step up to the plate." Henne was hurt at the end of a 1-yard run in the first quarter on the Dolphins second possession in San Diego and didnt return. He went to hand off to Lex Hilliard, who wasnt ready for the ball. Henne was hit by Shaun Phillips and stayed on the ground for a few minutes. He walked off the field, then went into the locker room. He was replaced by Matt Moore. Philadelphia defensive end Trent Cole left in the fourth quarter of the Eagles 24-23 loss to San Francisco with a right calf injury and was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday. Among others injured were: New York Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas (ankle), Detroit safeties Amari Spievey (hamstring) and Erik Coleman (left ankle) and Seattle linebacker Matt McCoy (knee). cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

ATLANTA -- Julio Teheran believes the Atlanta Braves have all the parts necessary to turn their season around. Even though his team has dropped 10 of its last 12 games, Teheran thinks it is far from a lost season for Atlanta. Teheran was outpitched by Kevin Correia, and the Braves endured an embarrassing eighth inning to lose 6-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. "Were trying to be better every day," the All-Star pitcher said. "Thats something that I see. Today we had a bad game, and tomorrow well try to get better." Despite winning two of three from NL East-leading Washington over the weekend, the Braves have fallen four games behind the Nationals. Los Angeles has won four of six to increase its NL West lead to five games over idle San Francisco. The Dodgers scored three times in the eighth for a 6-1 lead. After Matt Kemps double moved Yasiel Puig to third and chased Teheran, Carl Crawford hit an RBI single off James Russell. Reliever Juan Jaime then walked Justin Turner to load the bases. The next batter, A.J. Ellis, reached when shortstop Ramiro Pena threw errantly to first on a double-play attempt, and two runs scored. Jaime and catcher Evan Gattis combined for two wild pitches and one passed ball in the eighth. Jaime, who threw 32 pitches got only two outs and issued a second walk. "Dont throw the ball over for strikes, and we had some miscommunication on some signs there with Jaime," Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Its one of those things that the game got away from us." Teheran (10-9) allowed five runs and nine hits in 7 1-3 innings. He walked two and struck out six. Correia was tied for the major league lead in losses with a 5-13 record when he was traded from Minnesota to the Dodgers on Saturday for a player to be named or cash. He excelled for Los Angeles, giving up one run and four hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked one. Correia, a Southern California native who grew up cheering for the Dodgers, did well at the plate, too. He began the day with a career .115 batting average, but went 2 for 2 and scored a run. "Its been fun," he said. "I was real excited to have this opportunity. Its just awesome to be able to get a win in the first one. I couldnt ask for anything more." Crawford got three hits and drove in two runs for the Dodgers. The Braves went ahead 1-0 in the fourth on Justin Uptons RBI single. Los Angeles scored three runs in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. Correia, Dee Gordon and Puig singled to load the bases, and Adrian Gonzalez and Crawford followed with RBI singles. Turners groundout drove in a run on a ball that couldve been a double play, but was bobbled by second baseman Emilio Bonifacio. Brian Wilson faced the minimum in the seventh, and Jamey Wright struck out the side in the eighth for Los Angeles. Carlos Frias gave up Gattis RBI single in the ninth. TRAINERS ROOM Dodgers: With SS Hanley Ramirez on the disabled list because of a right oblique strain, his roster replacement -- Darwin Barney -- grounded out as a pinch-hitter in the seventh. Braves: 2B Tommy La Stella hurt his right hamstring in the second inning and left the game, but said afterward that he will be ready to play on Tuesday. Pena took his place in the lineup, moving to shortstop while Bonifacio moved to second. ... SS Andrelton Simmons, sidelined by a sprained left ankle, jogged before the game and took infield and batting practice. Gonzalez said he might return in the next day or two. UP NEXT Dodgers: RHP Dan Haren, who starts Tuesday night vs. the Braves, was 0-5 with a 10.03 ERA in five starts before winning at the Angels 2-1 last Wednesday. In four career starts and one relief appearance at Turner Field, He is 3-1 with one save and a 5.04 ERA. Braves: LHP Mike Minor is 2-3 with a 7.33 ERA in his last 10 starts. In five career starts against the Dodgers, Minor is 1-1 with a 2.32 ERA. cheap nfl jerseys . - Chris Davis hit a two-run double, scoring Nelson Cruz in his Orioles debut in Baltimores 9-7 win over to the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. cheap jerseys from china . Head of refereeing Pierluigi Collina said Wednesday it was not fair for teams to gain a temporary one-player advantage by injuring an opponent. "This is something that has gone on since (forever), I would say, but its unfair." Collina said at a season-ending briefing. "Football gives the advantage to the team of the player who committed a foul and is cautioned." The Italian official, who refereed the 2002 World Cup final, insisted "something has to be considered." Laws of football can be changed at annual meetings of the International Football Association Board, which comprises FIFA delegates and the four British football federations. The panel has pledged to run more trials and pilot projects to test ideas. UEFA President Michel Platini joined Collina to promote their five-referee system of match officiating used in UEFA competitions to rule on goal-line decisions and penalty box incidents. FIFA will use goal-line cameras at the World Cup. Platini said most of his 54 European member countries now use five officials -- placing an extra assistant beside each goal -- in top-tier leagues or selected high-profile matches. "I think it will work. 35 national associations have said it does," Platini said. Italy, Belgium and Turkey are among the adopters. Collina said he recently briefed analyysts working for British broadcasters about how five officials worked together.dddddddddddd "They didnt understand why the system is not used in England," Collina said. Three goal-line decisions were required from the Premier Leagues camera technology systems in 380 match this season, he said. However, 4,093 corner kicks were also awarded in which goal-line technology could not assist the referee. Collina cited an example from his own refereeing days when he should have disallowed a key goal by Chelsea captain John Terry which helped eliminate Barcelona from the Champions League in 2005. Having an extra assistant watching the goalmouth would have told Collina that Terrys teammate Ricardo Carvalho illegally blocked Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, the former referee said after showing video of the incident. Platini said he got "many proposals from outside of Europe to send Pierluigi to explain" the five-referee system. Still, he acknowledged it was "becoming complicated" for some federations to adopt the system because of added costs training and employing more referees. Some federations used five referees only for cup finals and "key, sensitive games," the UEFA president said. Collina added that an extra official freed the assistant with the flag to focus on offside rulings. "We should give them only this task to control the offside and, believe me, this is enough," he said. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

DALLAS - The Dallas Stars have signed defenceman Sergei Gonchar to a two-year deal worth US$10 million. The Senators traded the 39-year-olds rights to Dallas for a sixth-round pick that was conditional on Gonchar agreeing to a contract with the Stars. Ottawa now has seven selections in this years draft. Gonchar gives the Stars have another veteran presence on their young blue-line to go along with 36-year-old alternate captain Stephane Robidas. Gonchar is a veteran of 1,177 NHL games and has 217 goals and 558 assists. He had three goals and 24 assists last season. "Sergei is a high-end offensive defenceman who can quarterback a power play and help generate offence from the blue line," Stars general manager Jim Nill said in a statement. "Sergei has had an impressive NHL career and has been a big contributor to Ottawas offence over the last three seasons. We are excited to see him continue his career here in Dallas the next two years." The Stars are Gonchars fifth NHL team. He spent the past three years with Ottawa. Steve Nash Swingman Jersey . ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- A concussion that has kept quarterback Kevin Kolb sidelined since August, cost him his job with the Buffalo Bills. Without going into detail, general manager Doug Whaley announced Tuesday the team released Kolb after he failed a physical. The move came shortly after the start of the NFLs free agency period and a few days before Kolb was due a bonus as part of the two-year contract he signed with Buffalo in April. Now there are questions whether Kolbs career might be over after he sustained what was at least his third concussion in seven seasons. The latest occurred during the first quarter of a 30-7 preseason loss at Washington on Aug. 24, when Kolb was kneed in the back of the head at the end of a scramble. Diagnosed with concussion-like symptoms, Kolb was placed on injured reserve a week later and spent much of the season recovering at his home in Texas. The Bills were Kolbs third team since being selected in the second round of the 2007 draft by Philadelphia. A concussion in 2009 resulted in Kolb losing the starting job to Michael Vick in Philadelphia. He then spent two seasons in Arizona, where he failed to secure the starting job because of an assortment of injuries. Buffalo signed Kolb to provide veteran experience and leadership behind rookie starter EJ Manuel. The Bills made two moves in free agency by re-signing veteran kicker Dan Carpenter, who signed a four-year contract, and tight end Mike Caussin. Carpenter returns to Buffalo after what proved to be a successful one-year tryout as an injury replacement after rookie sixth-round draft pick Dustin Hopkins hurt his groin six days before the season opener. The sixth-year player proceeded to enjoy a career year. Carpenters 33 field goals were a career high and tied the Bills single-season record set by Steve Christie in 1998. Carpenters return leaves Hopkins future uncertain. Carpenter was so eager to re-sign with the Bills that he, his wife Kaela and son Colby arrived at the teams headquarters to complete negotiations after travelling from his home in Florida oon Tuesday.dddddddddddd Under NFL rules, Carpenter was not allowed to re-sign with Buffalo before free agency began because he had signed a one-year deal at the league veteran minimum. "I dont think we would have got on the plane if we didnt think there was a future here in Buffalo," Carpenter said. "For us, it was a no-brainer to come back to Buffalo. We were comfortable and loved it here last year." The signing ends what was a tumultuous stretch for Carpenter, who took a circuitous route to Buffalo after spending his first five seasons with the Miami Dolphins. Carpenters contract was terminated by the Dolphins in mid-August, and he failed to land a job in two brief stints with Arizona and the New York Jets. Carpenter was on his way for a tryout with Cleveland before making a detour to Buffalo. "To be able to go back somewhere and be wanted is where you would like to go," he said. "Youre very fortunate in this league for that to happen." A 2009 Pro Bowl selection, Carpenter provided Buffalo a veteran and dependable presence. He hit 33 of 36 field-goal attempts, including 29 of 30 from inside 50 yards last season. With a 91.67 per cent success rate, Carpenter fell just short of breaking Rian Lindells single-season record of 92 per cent (23 of 25) set in 2006. And Carpenters 131 points ranked third on the Bills single-season list. Overall, his 160 field goals since 2008 rank fourth among kickers during that span. Caussin returns after he was eligible to become a restricted free agent, and despite missing the past two seasons because of injuries. He was sidelined last season with a hip injury sustained early in training camp, and missed 2012 because of a knee injury. Caussin had five catches for 41 yards in six games, including two starts, with Buffalo in 2011 after being promoted off the teams practice squad. He broke into the NFL with Jacksonville in 2010 as an undrafted free agent, but did not play a game with the Jaguars. The Bills have a need at tight end, with starter Scott Chandler becoming a free agent. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

Since no team had gone undefeated in more than three decades, it felt almost inevitable. Falling out of the top spot in the poll wasnt bad, either; the goal is to be No. 1 at the end of the season, not the middle. Losing Brandon Ashley, thats going to be a little tougher for the second-ranked Wildcats to take, a development that will force them to shuffle things around and potentially put a dent in their national championship aspirations. "Its a huge loss for us not to have Brandon for the rest of the season," Arizona centre Kaleb Tarczewski said. "But we still feel that even without him, we still have a great team." With Ashley, Arizona hummed along to the best start in program history, beating teams like Duke, Michigan, UCLA and San Diego State while winning its first 21 games. The Wildcats fortunes took a bad turn Saturday night in Berkeley, when they lost the game 60-58 on Justin Cobbs last-second shot and lost Ashley to an awkward landing while going up for a rebound in the first half. Ashley injured his right foot on the play and faces the possibility of surgery. Arizona (21-1, 8-1 Pac-12) now faces playing the rest of the season without one of its best, most versatile players. "No one expected us to do as well as we have this year; we kind of just let our play do the talking," Arizona point guard T.J. McConnell said. "People can write what they want and say that were not a national championship team, but were going to work hard every day and they cant take that away from us." A 6-foot-8 sophomore, Ashley was a difficult matchup for opposing teams on offence, an athletic player who could score in the post, driving to the basket and, after spending countless hours working on his shot during the summer, from the 3-point line. Ashley is Arizonas third-leading scorer at 11.5 points and in rebounding at 5.8 per game. He shot 47 per cent from the floor, including 36 per cent from the arc and often gave opposing teams fits with his ability to keep offensive rebounds alive with his long arms. Ashley also is one of the Wildcats most versatile defensive players, a long, mobile defender who has the reach to block shots inside and out, the agility to keep smaller players in ffront of him.dddddddddddd. "Are we going to miss Brandon Ashley? No doubt about it," Arizona coach Sean Miller said. "But we still can be an excellent team." The loss of Ashley will force some shuffling for the Wildcats. Defensively, Arizona should be OK without him. Freshman Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, whos expected to slide into Ashleys starting spot, is an active and willing defender. At 6-7, hes just an inch shorter and may be better at defending perimeter players than Ashley, playing that end of the floor more like an upperclassman than a first-year player. Replacing Ashleys offence may be a little tougher. Hollis-Jefferson isnt quite as polished as Ashley on offence and doesnt have the same range, hitting 1 of his 6 attempts from 3-point range this season while scoring most of his points on drives and putbacks. With Hollis-Jefferson in the starting lineup, 3-point specialist Gabe York moves into the sixth man role and the rest of the roster moves up a spot. Miller has kept a fairly tight rotation this season, so now players who hadnt seen many minutes outside of mop-up duty will be counted on more. Guard Jordin Mayes was a regular contributor the past two seasons, but has seen his minutes decrease this season. Matt Korcheck, who redshirted last season, is an active player with a solid build at 6-10, 230 pounds, though he has played in just 10 games this season. Freshman Elliot Pitts, whos appeared in eight games, will likely see more minutes as well. Miller said forward Zach Peters, a transfer from Kansas whos battled concussion issues, isnt ready for consistent minutes yet. Playing time among the players vying for minutes will likely be based on circumstance, depending on how well theyre playing, the opponent and what the Wildcats need during specific points in games. "If we did nothing different other than just give the players who have played, minus Brandon, more of an opportunity, thats part of our solution," Miller said. "With that in mind, we know foul trouble and fatigue can certainly weigh against you, but we dont have to do this for 30 games, just nine regular-season games and then were in the post-season." Arizonas stretch run without Ashley starts Thursday night at home against Oregon. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

The Carolina Hurricanes signed defenceman Justin Faulk to a six-year, $29 million contract extension on Monday. The average annual value of the deal is $4.833 million. Here are some tidbits from camp: SANTOS DEALING WITH UNCERTAIN FUTURE Its an oft-repeated cliché but Sergio Santos really is approaching life one day at a time. Almost traded during the offseason - according to reports he was nearly moved twice - he continues to hear his name in the rumour mill. "Its just been different or kind of out of the norm," said Santos. "I try to keep as level-minded of an outlook as I can. I try not to look too far ahead or try to think about things that I cant control." Santos almost became a Texas Ranger in late November but a three-team deal fell through. He went so far as to travel to Arlington to undergo a physical and to meet with Rangers officials. Hes not hung up on it. "Luckily I had some time to kind of let that sink in and its gone and Im done thinking about it," said Santos. Santos missed almost four months of last season due to surgery to remove bone spurs from his pitching elbow. In 24 appearances from his August 1 return onward, Santos posted a 1.69 ERA and a miniscule 0.516 WHIP over 21 1/3 innings. He limited opposing batters to a .327 OPS. Put simply, he was dominant. In the final guaranteed year of his deal and with year over year club options through 2017 ($6 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016, $8.75 million in 2017), hes a prime candidate to be moved because the bullpen is considered a position of strength and others, like Steve Delabar, have years of club control remaining. "I think there are two sides that you can look at it, as other teams really want you or you can dwell on the fact that the team youre on is trying to trade you," said Santos. "At the end of the day Alex and everybody with the Blue Jays is trying to make the Blue Jays as good of a team as they can in 2014. "Whether Im in those plans or not, like I said thats not in my control. Would I like to be? Of course." JANSSEN PROGRESSING Closer Casey Janssen, dealing with stiffness in the back of his pitching shoulder, played catch on Monday and woke up feeling good on Tuesday. Hes hoping to throw a bullpen session soon, although there isnt a schedule yet. "Just with yesterday, see how it is today and then I think we can start preparing a plan but weve got to crawl before we can walk here," said Janssen. "Well get there. Im not worried about the bullpens and stuff like that.dddddddddddd All I really care about is feeling healthy and if Im healthy it comes back quick." Janssen was limited in Grapefruit League play last season as he recovered from shoulder surgery. He pitched successfully through pain for much of the year, notching a career high 34 saves, a 2.56 ERA and a 0.987 WHIP. NAVARRO, IZTURIS CONCERNED FOR FAMILY BACK HOME Former Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez died last March 5. On the one-year anniversary of his passing and with political unrest on the rise in their homeland, Blue Jays Dioner Navarro and Maicer Izturis spend a lot of time worrying about family. "Its so frustrating," said Navarro. "Thank God theyre doing all good. Theyve been through so much and its just sad and frustrating at the same time. I know if we keep on praying and staying strong, eventually things have to change." Navarro grew up a block away from the presidential residence in Caracas, known as Casa Blanca (White House). His parents, Frank and Rosa, and his youngest brother Darrel still live in the home. With a family of his own and business interests in the Tampa area, Navarro hasnt returned to Venezuela since 2009. He flies his family to the United States as often as possible. Izturis hails from Barquisimeto, about a four-hour drive from the capital, Caracas. His wife and children are with him and his brother, former Blue Jay Cesar, is in Kissimmee attending the Astros camp, but the rest of his family remains in the midst of the protests, which have fanned out across Venezuela. Its a chore just to get groceries. "You can go but they drive very quick," said Izturis. "You go to the supermarket and try to find out what you need. You need to go quick, boom, boom, and thats no life, you know?" Both players believe political change is coming to Venezuela. Theyre hoping it comes at limited cost. "Its such a beautiful country," said Navarro. "Weve got so much to offer to not only ourselves but to the world. We keep on praying God is going to do something really good for us." CAMP CUTS The Blue Jays trimmed their major league roster by three, to 55, by reassigning catchers Derrick Chung and Jack Murphy and pitcher Luis Perez to minor league camp. Perez, who underwent Tommy John elbow surgery in August, 2012, suffered a setback in his recovery late last season and has experienced numbness in the pinky finger of his pitching hand this spring. Perez is out of options but is a certainty to begin the season on the disabled list. OTTAWA - Eugene Melnyk is already predicting a return to the playoffs for the Ottawa Senators this season. The NHL teams owner said he sees no reason why this years lineup wouldnt have the capability to be one of the more competitive teams in the Eastern Conference. "I think you can pretty well predict what were going to have on the ice," Melnyk said Tuesday. "If everybody just plays to their potential I think its a great team and is going to be very competitive and will be a playoff team, but they just need to play to the level that we know that they can play." The Senators missed the playoffs last season and finished 11th in the Eastern Conference, but Melnyk is confident the Senators will finish in the top eight this year. "I think we have the potential to be in the playoffs and be competitive throughout the whole year," he said. "Once the playoffs start anything can happen. Thats the first step, lets get into the playoffs and let it run from there." There will be some significant changes to the Senators this year after the trade of Jason Spezza and the addition of David Legwand, Alex Chiasson and prospects Nicholas Paul and Alexander Guptill. Curtis Lazar, 19, will also be pushing to make the roster. "I think were going to be very, very competitive," said Melnyk. "Last year was not the kind of year we want to have this coming season. Everyone knows their roles and Im just hoping we stay away from injuries and were all set to go." Melnyk feels the Senators have a better schedule this season, adding he senses a renewed energy from players who are eager to put last season behind them. Ottawa dealt Spezza to the Dallas Stars last month. He was drafted by the Senators with the second overall pick in 2001 and had spent his career in the nations capital. The team has yet to name a new captain. Melnyk said he understood and accepted Spezzas request to be traded. "I spoke to him as far back as five years ago and he was already starting to talk about potentially moving and this time around he was looking for a change and I totally understand what he wanted to do," he said. Melnyk was in town to announce that the Senators and the Senators Foundation have surpassed the $100-million mark in community contributions and initiatives. "Were at the top, weve won the Stanley Cup in that area," he said of the teams charitable efforts. "I know what everybody else does, we talk about it, and they come here to see what weve done to get a sense of it. Theyre just in awe of the organization and how well we are organized. Its a machine." Melnyk capped off the afternoon with another charitable contribution as he and Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for ALS. Say goodbye to both. Cooney scored 18 points, fellow guard Tyler Ennis of Brampton, Ont., had 16, and the Orange defence clamped down in a 77-53 victory over Western Michigan on Thursday in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Cooney hit 4 of 8 from beyond the arc and Ennis had six assists with one turnover to spark the Orange, who shot 28 of 57 (49.1 per cent) from the field and hit 7 of 17 from long range. "It was just good to see one go in," Cooney said. "It adds to your confidence a little bit, and I was able to get into a good rhythm and guys found me in good spots. The ball just went in today." Since matching a school record with nine 3-pointers that keyed a six-point win over Notre Dame last month, Cooney had hit just 10 of 51 (19.6 per cent) from beyond the arc. "Same guy," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. "Hes just got to get his looks and take them. Hes definitely stayed up the whole time. Hes played the other parts of the game. Its a big difference when he makes shots." Syracuse (28-5), the third seed in the South Regional, will play 11th-seeded Dayton (24-10) on Saturday. Dayton beat Ohio State 60-59 on Thursday. The Orange won their first 25 games and were ranked No. 1 for three weeks before losing five of seven in that late-season skid. Western Michigan (23-10), the Mid-American Conference champion, had won 14 of 16 games and was in the NCAA tournament for the first time in a decade. The Orange forced 11 turnovers in the opening half and scored 13 points off them in running out to a double-digit lead before the midpoint of the period. Syracuse used an 18-4 spurt over 10 minutes to take control and led 40-21 at halftime. The Broncos took care of the ball in the second half, losing it only twice, but the deficit was much too daunting to overcome as Syracuse dominated the glass 41-25 and scored 15 second-chance points. "We ran into a buzz saw today," WMU coach Steve Hawkins said. "We made too many mistakes in the first half. We had 11 turnovers in the first half and thats what staked them out to that lead. I felt like after we started taking care of the ball in the second half, we got a few better looks." Jerami Grant finished with 16 points, while C.J. Fair, double- and triple-teamed nearly every time he touched the ball, finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Shayne Whittington and Tucker Haymond led Western Michigan with 11 points apiece. David Brown, the MAC scoring champion, finished with a season-low nine points on 2-of-12 shooting, 2 of 100 from long range.dddddddddddd Syracuse rode its defence to the Final Four a year ago and the zone was stellar from the opening tip against the Broncos. The Broncos split two games with Eastern Michigan during the season, learning the nuances of the zone defence employed by Eagles coach Rob Murphy, an assistant at Syracuse for eight years before taking over at EMU. "We hope its a help," Hawkins said. It wasnt. Same system, maybe, but different personnel. "Theyre long and athletic, and they make you second-guess where you want to throw the ball," Brown said. "I feel that we were hesitant. We turned the ball over way too much." The Syracuse defence had to focus on WMUs fifth-year seniors Whittington and Brown and did the job. Whittington was hounded in the lane, unable to generate much, taking just seven shots. And while Brown was his usual self at the free throw line, he had only four chances, hitting three. "We came out playing pressure defence," Fair said. "We werent going to let them get comfortable." They didnt. The Broncos committed four quick turnovers as Syracuse took a 7-2 lead on a 3-pointer by Cooney just over 3 minutes in. Brown led the MAC at 19.4 points per game and earned MVP of the conference tournament after scoring a career-high 32 points that included five 3-pointers in the final against Toledo, and he makes a good living at the free throw line. Brown was 196 of 254 (77.2 per cent) from the line, most of the fouls coming while he was attempting one of the 237 shots he took from behind the arc. He found no room to roam against the Orange, missing three times from well beyond the 3-point line before finally hitting near the midpoint of the opening half. Whittington is a hulking figure in the lane at 6-foot-11 and 250 pounds, but Grant easily spun around him and slammed home a ferocious two-handed dunk to boost the Syracuse lead to 12-4. Cooneys second 3 and a layup by Ennis had the Broncos 13 points behind and reeling. Fairs three-point play and a 3-pointer from the wing by Ennis off a feed from Grant inside gave Syracuse a 31-13 lead with 4:08 to go in the half. Whittington shook off a foul by Grant and hit a pretty hook in the lane that he turned into a three-point play and Brown followed with two free throws and his first 3 to give the Broncos a glimmer of hope. Syracuse responded with a slam dunk by senior centre Baye Moussa Keita, another 3 from Cooney, and a putback by Fair off a miss by Ennis to gain the 19-point halftime lead. If the Broncos hoped to make a comeback in the second half, that idea was quickly squashed. After a layup by Connar Tava -- Grant was called for goaltending on the play -- and a free throw by Haymond closed the gap to 16 points, Syracuse responded with an 8-2 spurt that Cooney started with a four-point play. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

NEW YORK -- Deron Williams has had surgery on both ankles and the Brooklyn Nets say their point guard should be ready for the start of training camp. Williams had arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to remove spurs from the front and back of his left ankle. Also, a loose bone fragment was removed from his right ankle. Williams is expected to be on crutches for four to six weeks before rehabilitation, the Nets said in a statement. He will start light court activities in August and begin full basketball activities in September. The former All-Star has been plagued by ankle trouble for the past two seasons and missed 18 games in 2013-14, including 16 because of a sprained left ankle. He averaged 14.3 points and 6.1 assists. Boca Raton, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Rakeem Cato finished off his illustrious career at Marshall by leading his team to a win in the inaugural Boca Raton Bowl. Cato threw for 281 yards with three touchdowns and also rushed for two scores in the Thundering Herds 52-23 win over Northern Illinois. The Miami Central High School product continued his stellar play for Marshall (13-1) and pushed his NCAA-record streak of games with a touchdown pass to 46 straight. Tommy Shuler, Catos longtime friend and teammate at Miami Central, hauled in 18 passes for 185 yards and a score, while Deon-Tay McManus and Angelo Jean- Louis had a touchdown grab apiece in the win. Shuler ended his career with 321 catches, a Conference USA record. Devon Johnson rumbled his way to 131 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown for the Herd, who bounced back from their lone loss of the season against Western Kentucky to win the Conference USA championship game before their lopsided win on Tuesday. Drew Hare went 15-of-27 through the air for 225 yards and a touchdown for the Huskies (11-3). He also added 50 yards on the ground. Cameron Stingily rushed for a score and Christian Hagan went 3-of-4 on his field goal attempts in the loss. A pass interference penalty set up the first score of the game, a 19-yard pitch-and-catch from Hare to Juwan Brescacin. It was the 10th straight game Northern Illinois scored first. Deandre Reaves got it right back, though, as he returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards for a score. Marshall got the ball back at the NIU 42 after a three-and-out for the Huskies. Shuler made three catches for 38 yards on the drive before Cato took a quarterback keeper and rushed for a 5-yard TD to give the Thundering Herd a 14-7 lead with under four minutes to play in the opening quarter. The Huskies moved deep into Marshall territory on the following drive, but Hagan missed a 32-yard field goal attempt, Johnson flipped the field with a 47-yard run to the NIU 14 which led to Justin Haigs 28-yard field goal. Northern Illinois again moved the ball into its opponents territory, but Joel Bouagnon was stuffed on three straight plays from inside the 5 to set up a 19- yard field goal from Hagan that summed up NIUs night in the red zone. Marshall went 6-for-6 on its red zone opportunities and the Huskies converted 4-of-5 chances, but Hagan was the beneficiary of most of those trips. Shulers 42-yard catch-and-run on the Thundering Herds next touch preceded Johnsons 2-yard TD run two plays later for a 24-10 margin. Hagan booted a 30-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the half to cut the deficit to 24-13 at the break. The Huskies recovered an onside kick to begin the second half and moved the ball to midfield prior to turning it over on downs. Shuler hauled in a 6-yard TD from Cato later in the third to push the margin to 31-13. NIU answered with two big plays. On the fourth play of the march, Hare hooked up with Aregeros Turner for a 30-yard gain, then Stingily rushed for a 24-yard score on the following play. Marshall continued to move the ball as Cato capped an 11-play, 68-yard drive with an 11-yard TD toss to Jean-Louis to regain an 18-point cushion with two minutes left in the third. Cato put the game away early in the fourth with a 27-yard yard TD strike to McManus. The Huskies moved into the red zone and settled for yet another field goal from Hagan, then Cato capped the scoring and his career with a 4-yard TD run. Game Notes Shuler entered the game needing three receptions to set the school record, breaking Josh Davis mark of 306 set from 2001-04. He also moved into fourth on Marshalls all-time receiving yards list, passing Randy Moss (3,467) ... This was the only bowl that featured two conference champions ... Marshall has won three straight in the series ... The Herd had a 505-425 advantage in total yards ... Bouagnon rushed for 82 yards in the loss. Vlade Divac Authentic Jersey . Carl Landry Sacramento Kings Jersey . -- Michael Allen said it wasnt until his 15th hole that he started thinking about shooting golfs magic number of 59.MARANA, Ariz. -- Graeme McDowell rarely felt as hopeless in match play as he did Wednesday at Dove Mountain. Overpowered and outplayed for much of the first round, he was 3 down with three holes to play as he watched the majestic flight of Gary Woodlands tee shot cover the flag on the 16th hole. McDowell figured it was a matter of time before he climbed into a courtesy car to be driven back to the clubhouse. "The Cadillacs were circling," he said. They must have looked like buzzards. In an opening round of comebacks in the Match Play Championship, none was more stunning than McDowell surviving to see another day of this most unpredictable event. Woodlands shot took a hard bounce and landed between two corporate suites. Bogey. With a wedge in hand, Woodland pulled it on the wrong side of the 17th green, and McDowell capitalized by making a 12-foot birdie. Woodland blasted out of the left bunker, over the 18th green and into the right bunker to lose a third straight hole. McDowell completed his improbable rally with a 6-foot birdie on the 19th hole to win. "Im sure hes extremely disappointed right now -- and Im extremely elated," McDowell said. "Im surprised to be sitting here, having won. Yeah, I hit a couple of quality shots down the last couple of holes, but he had mistakes, as well. Its a brutal format." It certainly was brutal for the 32 players headed for the airport. Such is the nature of this World Golf Championship, as cut-throat as it comes. "It feels like a Sunday afternoon on Wednesday," McDowell said, realizing that Thursday wont be much different. McDowell was among eight players who trailed with six holes remaining and somehow survived. Brandt Snedeker had to make two tough par saves just to stay alive on the 18th and 19th holes of his match against David Lynn of England. He won with an 8-foot birdie on the next hole. It was the only time all day he had the lead. Jason Dufner was 3 down with five holes remaining when Scott Stallings made too many mistakes, Dufner made one clutch birdie, and the PGA champion advanced in 19 holes with a simple par. Six matches went the distance. Five matches went overtime. The last one was Ernie Els, vexed by this format so many times that some years he didnt bother showing up. He was 2 down with three to play and outlasted Stephen Gallacher in 19 holes. "I feel for him," Els said, perhaps because he has been there himself. After a wild day, there was a small degree of normalcy on Dove Mountain. Only three of the top 10 seeds were eliminated -- Zach Johnson (3), Dustin Johnson (6) and Steve Stricker (9), who wasnt even sure he would play until his brother had liver transplant surgery last weekend. The better seed -- its really just a number -- won 23 of the 32 matches. "Seeds dont matter. Who you play doesnt matter," said Jordan Spieth, sounding wiser than his 20 years after a tough 2-upp victory over Pablo Larrazabal of Spain.dddddddddddd Henrik Stenson, awarded the top seed because Tiger Woods and Masters champion Adam Scott chose not to play, trailed Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand with five holes to play. The big Thai struggled with his putter, however, missing a 4-footer for par on the 14th to lose the hole, and an 8-footer for birdie on the 15th that would have given him the lead. Stenson made a 20-foot birdie putt on the 16th, and won the match when Aphibarnrat failed to match his birdie on the 17th by missing from 5 feet. "Im still in shock," Stenson said. "It was a tough match." Second-seeded Justin Rose held off Scott Piercy, and No. 4 seed Rory McIlroy had little trouble against Boo Weekley to advance to the round of 32 on Thursday. Zach Johnson, the No. 3 seed, went out in the opening round for the fourth straight year, this time to Richard Sterne of South Africa, 5 and 4. Dustin Johnson now has lost in the first round five times in six appearances. He never led in a 4-and-3 loss to Peter Hanson. The longest day belonged to Sergio Garcia, who missed a 6-foot putt on the 18th hole for the win over Marc Leishman of Australia. They went 22 holes before Garcia made a 6-foot birdie putt to advance. In other matches: -- Patrick Reed defeated Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., 1-up -- Harris English made his Match Play Championship debut with a 5-and-3 win over Lee Westwood. -- Billy Horschel made six birdies in 13 holes to beat Jamie Donaldson of Wales, 6 and 5, in the shortest match of the day. -- Rickie Fowler, coming off three straight missed cuts, caught Ian Poulter on a bad day and sent the Ryder Cup star packing with a 2-and-1 victory. "It feels like a big win after those missed cuts," Fowler said. "It was nice to be the underdog. I had nothing to lose." -- Bubba Watson was giving holes away early before winning three straight holes on the back nine in a 2-and-1 win over Mikko Ilonen of Finland. Still, no match epitomized the wild nature of this format than McDowells win over Woodland. They live down the street from each other at Lake Nona. They practiced together last week. They flew out to Arizona together. And they had to play each other in the first round on a course where Woodland figured to have a big advantage with his length. McDowell played a practice round with Brooks Koepka, the first alternate, to get used to being outdriven by some 50 yards. His worst fears were realized, especially standing on the 16th tee. He saw his agent on the phone, hopeful he could find him a good flight back to Florida. "I thought it was over," McDowell said. "Youre not coming back from 3 down against a guy thats playing as well as him. Yeah, Im still going to try to hit my shots. But it required a mistake from him to give me half a sniff, even." cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

MILAN, Italy - Substitute Cyril Thereaus stoppage-time winner sent Chievo through to the Italian Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory at Udinese. Roma also progressed with a comfortable 3-0 win against Fiorentina. Paolo Sammarco put Chievo in front in the eighth minute but Udinese thought it had done enough to take the game into extra time when Antonio Di Natale equalized six minutes from time. However, Thereau pounced in the opening minute of stoppage time to send Chievo through to a matchup against Siena. In Rome, Fiorentinas defence committed three mistakes to gift Erik Lamela two goals and Fabio Borini one. Roma will meet Serie A co-leaders Juventus in the next round. Udinese was the favourite coming into the game as it sits third in the Serie A standings, two points below AC Milan and Juventus and 15 above Chievo, but suffered its first loss at home since a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League in August. Udinese had the brighter start and could have taken the lead in the second minute as Diego Fabbrini made a good run into the area, but his pass to Antonio Di Natale was too short. Chievo, which had barely made an incursion into Udineses half, took the lead when Joel Ekstrand headed poorly back to his goalkeeper and Paolo Sammarco nipped in to fire his side in front. Ekstrand went close to atoning for his error on the half-hour mark but his header was well saved by Chievo goalkeeper Christian Puggioni. Chievo looked dangerous on the counterattack and shortly before the break Udinese defender Roberto Pereyra came close to scoring an own goal, deflecting Davide Moscardellis cross just past the post. Udinese brought on Antonio Floro Flores and Dusan Basta for the second half and it immediately looked like an improved side. The more Udinese attacked however, the more it left itself exposed at the back and Gennaro Sardo almost took advantage with a swiveling shot which Samir Handanovic did brilliantly to keep out. Udineses hard work finally paid off six minutes from time when Di Natale levelled with a stunning 25-yard free kick. The game appeared to be heading for extra time when Kamil Vacek threaded a delightful ball through for Thereau to fire under the onrushing Handanovic. At the Stadio Olimpico, Fiorentina looked the more likely side to take the lead in the first half, with the ever-dangerous Stevan Jovetic going close on several occasions. However, Roma started to improve as the first half came to a close and it took the lead eight minutes after the break. A long ball into the area was headed out by the Fiorentina defence, but only as far as Francesco Totti. The Roma captain tried to muscle his way past two defenders, and although he was unsuccessful, he managed to squeeze the ball out to Lamela who fired it home. Fiorentina almost immediately equalized as Jovetic found Manuel Pasqual completely unmarked in the area and the defender had plenty of time to control the ball, look up and unleash a fierce shot which Roma defender Cicinho got in the way of. Lamela doubled his tally halfway through the second period. Borini stole the ball off Amidu Salifu and passed it to Totti, who tapped it on for the overlapping Lamela to fire a razing shot into the back of the net. Another defensive error gifted Roma its third goal as Netos goal kick fell straight to Borini, who raced 40 yards and rounded a defender, slotting the ball past him first, before firing it through Netos legs. SAN DIEGO -- It was a classic win by the punchless San Diego Padres. Everth Cabreras bunt single in the first inning was the only hit Wednesday by the Padres, who still beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 thanks to Francisco Lirianos wildness. "Thats Padres baseball right there," Cabrera said with a big grin. The Padres hit only two balls out of the infield: one that was caught by an outfielder and the other was a sacrifice fly that was caught by second baseman Josh Harrison in short right. "There are lot of ways to win a baseball game and that was one of them," said manager Bud Black, who has presided over two of the three victories in franchise history in which the Padres had only one hit. San Diego won 1-0 at San Francisco on April 20, 2010, when Jonathan Sanchez and Sergio Romo combined on a one-hitter. San Diego beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 on July 19, 1975, when Steve Stone and Tom Dettore had a combined one-hitter. "You never know whats going to happen in a big league game," Black said. "Anytime you win its great, but when you win a game like that where you only get one knock, its a pretty good one. Feel good about it." The Padres played ultimate small-ball, scoring on a sacrifice fly, an error and a bases-loaded walk to avoid a three-game sweep. Rene Riveras fly to Andrew McCutcheon to end the eighth was the only ball fielded by a Pirates outfielder. "Nobody can beat us when we go 23 outs before the first one goes to the outfield," Black cracked. Carlos Quentin hit a sacrifice fly in the first, but it was caught in short right by Harrison. Ian Kennedy (5-6) won his third straight start, striking out seven and allowing two runs on five hits in six innings. He walked one. Huston Street pitched the ninth for his 18th save in as many chances. Three Pirates pitchers issued nine walks, two intentional, and hit one batter. The Padres struck out 10 times. San Diego has only 12 hits in its last four games. "I dont think I have ever been a part of that situation where you lose a close game on one hit, albeit a bunt," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "Although, they did have a bunch of baserunners." Liriano (1-6) walked six and struck out seven in five innings.dddddddddddd He walked the bases loaded in the fourth inning and then walked Chris Denorfia to give the Padres a 3-1 lead. San Diego took a 2-0 lead in the first. Denorfia drew a leadoff walk, stole second and took third when Cabrera beat out a push bunt for a single. Quentin hit the sacrifice fly caught by Harrison. His throw home was well up the third-base line. After Chase Headley was hit by a pitch, Cabrera scored on Harrisons throwing error on Tommy Medicas grounder. "We had a runner on second base. We dont hit it that much," Cabrera said. "I had Carlos Quentin behind me and I was thinking, Put the ball in play. Push bunt and thats it. "The most important thing is that we won the game," Cabrera said. "It doesnt matter how." Said Liriano: "It just got a little confusing. He put it in the right spot, it was a good bunt. I wasnt expecting a bunt on a 3-2 count." Pittsburgh pulled to 2-1 on Andrew McCutcheons homer to left leading off the fourth, his sixth. The Pirates added another run in the fifth when Harrison doubled in Jordy Mercer, who was aboard on a leadoff single. TUCSON, Ariz. -- If this was Aaron Gordons final home game at Arizona, and it almost certainly was, then he went out in style. And took the Pac-12 regular-season championship trophy with him. Gordon, expected to turn pro after a one-and-done freshman season, scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to help the No. 3 Wildcats clinch the conference title with a 79-66 victory over Stanford on Sunday night. "It feels good," Gordon said, "but its not the final stop on our destination." The Wildcats (27-2, 14-2), who won by just three at Stanford a month ago, completed an unbeaten home season in what also could have been the final McKale Center game for two other players: junior Nick Johnson and freshman Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. T.J. McConnell scored 14 points, Gabe York 12, Johnson 11 and Kaleb Tarczewski 10 for Arizona. After the game, the team was presented the championship trophy and cut down the net. When Gordon got his turn, the crowd chanted "three more years!" With Johnson, it was "one more year!" Then coach Sean Miller spoke briefly to the crowd. "The season is far from over," he said. "Lets hope this is the beginning of a long, long run." Miller, who has brought in one standout recruiting class after another, knows all too well how short college careers are for the games best players. "The agreement that we have right now is to focus on the task at hand," he said. "Part of whats going to help these guys get what they want individually is to be on a spectacular team. Todays Pac-12 championship is part of that path." He said that once the dust has settled this spring, he will sit down with the players and their families to map out the future. "What I hope is that anybody who would ever leave early would never be a second-round pick," Miller said. "Thats a devastating blow to the next 50 years of their life." Josh Huestis matched his career high with 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Stanford (18-10, 9-7). Anthony Brown added 14 points and Chasson Randle and Dwight Powell had 12 apiece for the Cardinal, who trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half and 25 in the second. "They had a great environment and they played very well," Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins said. "They got off to a fast start and were able to maintain that throughout the game." After struggling following the season-ending injury to Brandon Ashley, Arizona has won in impressive fashion in one-sided games against Colorado, California and Stanford. "Were clicking on all cylinders right now," Johnson said. "We want to go down in Arizona history as one of the best teams ever." The difference has been when the Wildcats have the ball. "Weve been a very consistent, dominant defensive team," Miller said. "Our offence is catching up." The Wildcats scored the first four points of the game and never trailed. After consecutive dunks by Gordon, Hollis-Jefferson made one of two free throws to make it 13-4. Powells inside basket sliced the lead to 14-11, but Stanford never got that close again. Elliott Pitts 3-pointer started a 9-2 spurt that put Arizona ahead 23-13 when Johnson scored on a drive. Randle scored on a runner to cut it to 23-17, but Johnson sank a 3-pointer, then blocked Randles shot at the other end. That led to Gordons fast-break basket on a pass from Hollis-Jefferson, and it was 28-17. McConnells 14-footer in the lane followed by a pair of free throws from Matt Korcheck gave Arizona its biggest lead of the half, 41-23, with 1:27 to go. Randle scored the final five points of the half on a 16-footer and a 3-pointer from the corner, cutting it to 41-28 at the break. Browns basket reduced the margin to 43-32 with 18:06 left but he missed the free throw for what would have been a three-point play. Tarczewskis three-point play, on Stefan Nastics fourth foul, put Arizona up 48-32 with 17:14 left. Nastic fouled out with 8:47 to go. Yorks three 3s in a 2-minute span helped Arizona take its biggest lead, 68-43, on Hollis-Jeffersons basket 10:08 from the finish. The Cardinal made it respectable with a 19-5 run that cut it to 73-62 on Huestis stuff with 2:45 left. Jordin Mayes, Arizonas only senior, started in what was his 127th game with the Wildcats. Verne Harris went out with an apparent hamstring injury with 16:24 to play, leaving the game with two officials. Ron Hextall Jersey . Jake Layman added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting in a game the Terrapins hit on 63.6 percent of their first-half field goal attempts to build a 39-18 lead at the break. Melo Trimble finished with 12 points for Maryland (8-1). NC Central (6-4), the defending MEAC champions, had a five-game win streak halted despite Jordan Parks 18 points and 10 rebounds and a 14-point effort from Nimrod Hilliard. The Eagles were able to hang around early due to sloppy play from the Terps, who turned the ball over six times in the first 5 1/2 minutes and were clinging to a 14-12 lead just past the midway mark of the second half. Maryland then got white-hot from the perimeter, burying 3-pointers on five consecutive possessions as part a 21-2 run that completely broke the contest open. The Terps went 8-of-9 overall from the field during the tear, which concluded on a Pack layup that staked Marylland to a 35-14 advantage with 3:25 remaining in the opening period.dddddddddddd NC Central somewhat cut into its sizeable halftime deficit after the intermission, pulling within 54-39 on a Parks dunk and Hilliards 3-point play with 8:55 left. Layman knocked down a trey on Marylands ensuing trip down the court, however, and two Trimble free throws that followed Hilliards turnover had the Terps back up by 20. With Maryland failing to make a basket after Jon Grahams layup with 7:13 to play, the Eagles were able to close the gap in the final minutes. Karamo Jawaras layup with six seconds left accounted for the final 11-point differential. Game Notes Maryland shot just 33 percent in the second half ... The Canadian Curling Association will take over sole operation and decision-making for future editions of the World Financial Group Continental Cup. The curling version of golfs Ryder Cup was formerly a joint collaboration between the CCA, World Curling Federation and USA Curling. But following the 2014 WFG Continental Cup, which is scheduled for January at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, the CCA will take control of the event. "Weve had a positive working relationship with the WCF and USA Curling since the WFG Continental Cup debuted in 2002 in Regina, but we felt that to continue building on the momentum that will be generated from the Las Vegas event, it was important that the CCA take a strong role in determining future directions for the WFG Continental Cup," said CCA Chief Executive Officer Greg Stremlaw. "Weve always believed this event has huge potential for attracting new curling fans, and were excited about what we can do to take it to new levels in the future." Among the changes for future editions of the WFG Continental Cup will be increased Canadian content. Traditionally, the event pitted a North American side against teams from the rest of the world, with four Canadian (two mens, two womens) teams combining with two U.S.-based teams (one mens, one womens) to form Team North America. Instead, effective at the 2015 WFG Continental Cup, Jan. 8-11 in Calgary, the event will feature an all-Canadian entry (three mens, three womens teams). The Canadian teams will consist of the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings Canadian Curling Trials mens and womens champions Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg; the 2014 Tim Hortons Brier and Scotties Tournament of Hearts champions; and the 2014 Canada Cup mens and womens champions (to be decided Dec. 3-7 in Camrose, Alta.). In alternating years, Canada will take on Team Europe (2015, 2017) and Team World (2016, 201, consisting of teams from the U.S. and other non-European curling nations. "Having more Canadian teams involved is always a good thing," said Stremlaw. "It will also mean more rivalries and more excitement as other countries join forces in hopes of taking down the worlds most accomplished curling nation." Nine previous Continental Cups have been staged, with Team North America prevailing five times, including the most recent edition last January in Penticton, B.C. The first five Continental Cups featured North American teams playing European teams; Asian teams were added to the mix in 2008 at Camrose, Alta., and the Team North America vs. Team World format was adopted. The WFG Continental Cup features a variety of curling competitions, including traditional team games, skins, mixed doubles and singles. Record crowds are already guaranteed for the Las Vegas event, said Stremlaw, and future visits to the U.S. for the Continental Cup are very likely. "Were thrilled with the response to our first WFG Continental Cup staged outside of Canada," he said. "Well continue to look for new opportunities such as this one to build not only the event, but the sport of curling and showcase it in unique ways." wholesale nfl jerseys . MUNICH - With a comfortable 2-0 cushion from the first leg, Bayern Munich is looking to finish off Marseille and advance to the Champions League semifinals. The four-time champions have won 12 of their last 13 games at home in the competition, and have also won seven straight as they maintain their push for three trophies. "We want to be one of the four best teams in Europe," said Bayern captain Philipp Lahm. "Were in a very, very good position. If we concentrate and play football, we wont run into trouble on Tuesday." Marseille, meanwhile, has lost eight of its last nine games in all competitions. The French side drew the other game in that run and has not won a game since a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan on Feb. 22. But Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes warned it would be a mistake to underestimate the visiting side. "I want to remind everyone that Marseille came from 2-0 down against (Borussia) Dortmund to win 3-2 (during the group stage)," the 66-year-old Heynckes said Monday. "Were taking this game very seriously." Goals from Arjen Robben and the 11th of the competition for Mario Gomez in Marseille leave Bayern ideally placed to take another step toward reaching the final in its stadium on May 19. "We can be very satisfied," said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge after his side had "thrown the door to the semifinals wide open." Its a remarkable turnaround for a club that appeared to be in crisis a month ago when a 2-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen left it seven points behind Bundesliga leader Dortmund, while Champions League ambitions were on hold after a 1-0 defeat at FC Basel in the first leg of their round of 16 tie. Bayern bounced back from the Leverkusen defeat with 20 goals in three games, including seven against Basel in the return leg as the German side posted the biggest winning margin in a knockout game of the Champions League. Saturdays 1-0 win at Nuremberg in the 184th Bavarian derby cut the gap with Dortmund to three points, and Bayern will also face the Bundesliga leader in the German Cup final on May 12. Marseille will take some heart from its 3-2 win in Dortmund. Its weekend game against French league leader Montpellier was postponed to allow it to prepare for what would be a mammoth upset. "We have a chance, but its minuscule," admitted Marseille coach Didier Deschamps, who lifted the Champions League trophy after the French sides previous game in Munich — a 1-0 win over AC Milan in the 1993 final. "We will do our best to get the best possible result, knowing that Bayern are very good at home." Marseille is languishing in ninth place in the French league. Adding to its problems, the teams flight to Munich was delayed six hours because of a strike in Marseille. The French side will need goals to qualify and will be looking to Ghana winger Andre Ayew and France forward Loic Remy — who both scored in Dortmund — to provide them. Remy is the clubs top scorer in the league with 10 goals while Ayew has seven, but former Marseille and Bayern striker Jean-Pierre Papin warned against an over-dependence on them. "(Remys) only just coming back from injury and needs to get his rhythm back. Ayew isnt 100 per cent either because of his shoulder problems," he told Marseilles website. Papin sees little chance of an upset. "An upset is always possible, but honestly, I think its going to be tough. Bayern are a very experienced team, comprised exclusively of internationals," Papin said. Marseille will welcome back goalkeeper Steve Mandanda from suspension, while Bayern picked up five yellow cards in the first leg, including one for Bastian Schweinsteiger which rules him out on Tuesday. Alou Diarra is suspended for the visitors. "A lot of crazy things happen in football," said Gomez. "But of course well to try to stick to our style of play, to win." The winner will likely face Real Madrid in the semifinal. The Spanish league leader holds a 3-0 cushion over unheralded Cypriot team APOEL Nicosia on the other side of the draw. "We cant already think were playing against Madrid, no, no," warned Franck Ribery, who played two seasons for Marseille before his transfer to Bayern in 2007. "The job isnt done yet." Seattle had a six-run outburst in an inning that included three Texas errors and an overturned call that led to the ejection of Rangers manager Ron Washington during the Mariners 7-1 victory Monday night. Seattle had the bases loaded in the sixth, already with four runs in, when Brad Miller hit a comebacker. Relief pitcher Pedro Figueroa threw home, and umpire Paul Schrieber initially ruled a forceout even though catcher J.P. Arencibia bobbled the ball on a transfer without dropping it or making a throw. McClendon challenged, and the call was reversed after a replay review of 3 minutes, 31 seconds. That erased the out and gave Seattle another run. "I thought it was a clear violation of the rules," McClendon said. "It was an impactful play." Asked his feeling on the transfer rule, which is being enforced more closely with expanded replay this season, the manager responded, "I wish it would all go away, but it is what it is, and we just have to deal with it." Arencibia, charged with an error, said he was off the plate before losing control of the ball. "I think thats something that baseball needs to clean up because there are a lot of plays that have happened this year that are outs and giving teams extra outs," Arencibia said. "I dont think its baseball. Outfielders who have caught the ball and run four steps after they catch it, run into the wall and turn and throw the ball in and it falls out, and automatically safe. It doesnt make sense." Roenis Elias (1-1) allowed one run and struck out five over 6 2-3 innings for his first major league victory. The left-hander, who defected from Cuba to Mexico in 2010, has a 2.16 ERA in three career starts. "I came here to make it to the big leagues. I knew I could pitch in the big leagues," Elias said through a translator. "I was throwing my pitches like I wanted. The curveball I threw today is what I normally throw." The Mariners went ahead to stay on Mike Zuninos solo homer in the fifth off Colby Lewis (0-1), who made his first big league start inn 21 months after elbow and hip operations.dddddddddddd Zunino added an RBI single in that wild sixth that started with Robinson Canos leadoff single. Cano scored on Michael Saunders triple to left-centre -- a ball that centre fielder Leonys Martin bobbled without getting charged with an error. Kyle Seager followed with an RBI single that chased Lewis, and then things got interesting. Dustin Ackley and Zunino had consecutive RBI singles after Arencibia couldnt pull in a foul ball before reaching out and teetering over a camera-well railing. Mix in two fielding errors, and the bases were loaded. Washington immediately came out to argue after the overturned call and was ejected by crew chief Ted Barrett because managers arent allowed to argue replay rulings. Washingtons ejection came a night after Boston manager John Farrell became the first big league skipper tossed under those circumstances this season. "It was obvious he caught the ball, the runner was at least 9 or 10 feet from home plate, making his move away from home plate so he dont have contact, you go to get the ball and he drops it," Washington said. "Im all for the review, but still that dont mean you have to agree with some of the calls that go on because of review." Umpires in New York confirmed the play was overturned because Arencibia never had secure possession while transferring the ball from his glove to his hand. Lewis made his first major league start since July 18, 2012, allowing four runs (three earned) over 5 1-3 innings. He struck out four and walked one. The 34-year-old Lewis had right hip resurfacing surgery last August. He is the first known major league pitcher to come back after the procedure to remove bone spurs without a full hip replacement. "Id like to thank the Texas Rangers and the organization for giving me an opportunity tonight. It wouldnt have meant as much for me to get back out there without having this uniform on," Lewis said. "Overall, I felt great. Everything was really, really good." NOTES: Seattle had gone 21 consecutive innings without a run before Zuninos third homer. ... Texas scored a single run for the third time in four games -- the others were 1-0 victories over Houston. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

NEWARK, N.J. - Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin says he is "absolutely playing" in the Super Bowl on Sunday after a season filled with "frustrating" health issues. Harvin returned to practice last Wednesday after passing the NFLs concussion protocol. He suffered a concussion in Seattles NFC divisional playoff game against New Orleans. Harvin says Tuesday at media day that he feels "really good" and has "no restrictions" as the Seahawks prepare to face the Denver Broncos. He missed the first 10 games of the season after needing hip surgery, and played sparingly when he returned because of complications. Harvin came back for the playoffs, but hit his head on the turf in Seattles win over New Orleans. He says being able to play in the Super Bowl "means everything" to him. A.J. Price Jersey . Solomon Hill Jersey .C. -- Rookie guard Dennis Schroder scored on a runner with 2.TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips answers several questions each week. This week, topics cover Brandon Morrows future, the Miami Marlins, Mariano Riveras choice in second basemen and the Houston Astros. 1) The Toronto Blue Jays placed Brandon Morrow on the 60-day-DL last week, and if he needs surgery on his finger, Morrow will be finished for the year. Should the club pick up his $10 Million option for next season and would the injury prone Morrow be perhaps better off as a relief pitcher regardless of where he plays next season? So far so good with Brandon Morrow as it seems he will not need surgery at this time. However, he is once again on the DL and wont be back until after the All-Star break. Pitchers come back from torn sheaths of the index finger, so it isnt a matter of whether he will make it back, he will be back. The question is: what is Morrow as a pitcher? He and the Jays need to decide what he is as a pitcher. Is he a starter or a reliever? This is a decision that has to be made not only because of his physical ability but also his capability. The health question is obvious but so too is the legitimate question about just how good Morrow really is. Physically being a starter is a different challenge than being a reliever. Starters have to log innings to have a significant impact. They need to be able to take the ball every fifth day and consistently give their team a chance to win. That means that their bodies need to be able to recover completely with four days off in order to be able to pitch effectively. Relievers pitch in much shorter spurts but have to be able to bounce back from one day to the next and maintain the quality of their stuff. Otherwise a reliever restricts his managers decision making if he is frequently unavailable. Morrow has clearly shown an inability to remain healthy as a starter. He has made only 30 starts once in his career. This means that the Jays have had to challenge the organizations depth because he has been unable to pitch. Almost always the replacement has not been as good as Morrow could be. Predictability is important for a team both physically and mentally. When a team is concerned about whether a pitcher can make his next start it impacts the plans and decisions a manager has to make. Does he have to hold back a reliever in case he needs a spot start? Should the manager save his bullpen just in case the risky starter needs to come out of the game early? The manager and team are always in limbo. Morrow cannot physically be a starter in my mind. But that doesnt necessarily mean that he can be a reliever. It is fair to question whether he can assume the rigors of being a regular 7th inning, 8th inning or closer option for the Jays or any other team. I believe that it is Morrows best shot of sustaining his career. His body cant seem to handle a lot of work in a little bit of time as a starter. He should find it easier to pitch an inning at a time. The main reason he should be a reliever is that it will better suit his mindset too. Morrow needs to be much more aggressive as a pitcher. He has lost some trust in his fastball and often nibbles the corner of he plate rather than challenging the hitters with his best stuff. His 17 walks in 27 innings pitched show that. In his last start against the Pirates, Morrows fastball ranged from 90-93 MPH when he faced position players. When he threw his fastball to the opposing pitcher. Garret Cole, he threw it 95-97. He had no fear of the pitcher and just reared back and said. "I dare you to hit it." He didnt think about pacing himself or missing the bat when he threw to the pitcher. He was aggressive and confident. As a reliever Morrow could be more aggressive with his fastball and simplify his secondary pitches, which sometimes get him in trouble. A move to the bullpen is exactly what Morrow needs from a physical and philosophical perspective. As far as the contract goes, there is no way I would ever exercise the $10M option. The Jays jut cant afford the risk. So at the end of the year the Jays should offer Morrow a middle relievers salary with bonuses based upon games finished if he becomes the closer and games started if he is a starter. He is at the point that he would have to earn any amount of money beyond what a middle reliever could make. I think Morrow has a couple of good years left but I just dont know it for a fact. Time for pay-for-play. 2) The Miami Marlins are tied for first in the NL East, largely due to their 17-5 record at home. What makes them so good at home, and can they stay in the race given the struggles of the rest of the division? The Marlins have been one of the great stories of the 2014 baseball season. They are ranked 29th in payroll ($47,565,400), yet are leading the NL East, whose payrolls range from $90M (Mets) to $180M (Phillies). The 17 home wins by the Marlins are by far the best in the game. That is the good news. The bad news is that the same team with the same players is 3-10 on the road. The division is grouped together with only four games separating the Marlins at the top and Phillies at the bottom (15-1. Coming into the season the Braves and Nationals were thought to be the class of the division. The Marlins were thought to have some interesting young players but not to be a legitimate contender. So far at home the Marlins are averaging almost six runs per game offensively while their pitchers ERA is 2.61 ERA at Marlins Park. While on the road they have a 4.29 ERA and are only averaging 2.69 runs per game on offense. These differentials explain why the home and road records are so vastly different but they dont tell us why there is such a stark difference in performance. As is almost always the case, there is a correlation between payroll and average age on the roster. The younger the roster, the less experience and therefore the lower the payroll. The Marlins are the second youngest team in the game with an average age of 27. Only the Astros are younger (26.. My experience has taught me that young players are vulnerable to changes in routine and process. For teams like the Astros and Marlins much of what they experience in the major leagues is new to them. At home they have a set routine. They live in their own house with their wives and kids. They drive their own car to the ballpark and take the same route most days. They tend to wake up at the same time in their own bed and eat their meals at just about the same time everyday. When the team goes on the road their routines are completely blown up. They leave theiir families behind.dddddddddddd. Fly at odd hours and sleep in hotels. They live out of their suitcases. Often times players sleep in later in hotels. They may not eat breakfast. They eat hotel food instead of home cooked meals. They take a bus to the ballpark. They may not know how to even get to the clubhouse if they havent been to the park before. Batting practice and conditioning work are done at different times. They are out of their comfort zone. Baseball is such a mental game. The way you think and feel affects the way you play. It takes years of experience for even the best players to separate daily life from the ballpark life. It is not uncommon for young teams to struggle on the road for that reason. If this young Marlins team is truly going to compete they are going to have to play better on the road, since, I dont think they will be able to sustain this level of play at home. In the end it really doesnt matter if I believe in the Marlins or if you do. If they believe in themselves and can push through the inevitable struggles that bring voices of doubt they will stay close through the end of July. They will most likely run out of gas over the last two months of the season because that is typically what teams this young do. Maybe just maybe they are different. Either way they are very interesting and fun to watch. 3) Future Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera made some waves earlier in the week, when an excerpt from his new book was released stating that he would rather have Dustin Pedroia in a must win game than former teammate Robinson Cano. Is Rivera correct in this opinion, and does this in anyway tarnish Riveras reputation? Writing a book upon retirement sounds like a good idea but it almost always leads to trouble. Drama and conflict sell. Editors want to stir it up so fans have interest in reading the book. Even the great kind gentleman, Mariano Rivera, got caught in the trap. Rivera is one of the most respected competitors ever, not only for his ability but also for his class and dignity. He was the pros pro; the ultimate professional. He always said and did the right thing in his career. Until now. I completely agree with Riveras evaluation of Robinson Cano. "This guy has so much talent I dont know where to start... There is no doubt that he is a Hall-of-Fame caliber (player). Its just a question of whether he finds the drive you need to get there. I dont think Robby burns to be the best... You dont see that red-hot passion in him that you see in most elite players." Cano is an extraordinary talent for whom much comes easy. He often looks lethargic though and we are left to wonder about his desire and need to win. I also agree with Rivera about his evaluation of Dustin Pedroia. "Nobody plays harder, gives more, wants to win more. He comes at you hard for twenty-seven outs. Its a special thing to see. If I have to win one game, Id have a hard time taking anybody over Dustin Pedroia as my second baseman." Rivera could not have been more right on both players. But it doesnt mean that it was right. It is so counter to who Rivera is to ever criticize a teammate. Yes, he was honest and truthful in his evaluations. But being honest doesnt mean that you have to say all of the truth. All of that being said this doesnt change for one second, the way I feel about Mariano Rivera. It actually reinforces my view on Cano. They have both earned that response from me. 4) Houston we have a problem! Can someone please tell me what the Houston Astros are doing? I understand that franchises need to rebuild but this is crazy. They have lost 106, 107 and 111 games from 2011-13. This season they are on pace to lose 111 games once again. They have the youngest team in the majors and the lowest overall payroll of $44.5M. They had the lowest payroll in 2012 with the second youngest average age of players on the roster. By most accounts the Astros have a top-five farm system loaded with potential major league players. Player development and scouting are critical for every organization. They are certainly important for rebuilding teams and especially important for small market teams who just cant afford high-priced free agents. Smaller market teams have to develop their own power: power arms and power bats. Power is the most expensive commodity in the free agent market so if small market teams are going to compete they need their own kids to deliver. Young talent alone though does not always win. There needs to be chemistry and character for every winning team. Young players need to learn how to win at the major league level. It doesnt just happen. Kids need to learn to cope with failure and adversity. Certainly, minor league experience helps players develop but for every player there is more learning to do at the major league level. The best way to learn how to win at the major league level is to actually win some games. A roster full of young players no matter how talented will be subject to a bunch of losing. Every game one kid may play well. But that will be countered, by another young player who plays poorly. Young kids look great one day and horrible the next. It is the nature of being young. The talent is there but the consistency is not. The Astros have some kids that can play but they will get diminishing returns if they continue to let them get their heads beat in every year. The Astros need to add some veteran experience to their roster. Certainly coaches help players make adjustments and improve but it is my contention that players learn as much or more from sharing their experience with one another. Veteran players can help with the mental aspect of the game better than the coaches. Becoming a consistent player is a way of thinking more than a way of doing. The Astros have some exciting young kids in their organization but they need a few boring veterans to help stabilize the environment or they will find themselves in a continuous state of rebuilding. Guys like Justin Mourneau, Marlon Byrd, James Loney, Casey McGhee, Juan Uribe, Ryan Ludwick, Jason Kubel, Scott Kazmir, Dan Haren, Kyle Lohse and Bronson Arroyo are the types of players I am talking about. They are all mid-level players who wont break the bank but would have given the Astros a shot at finishing with respectability over the past few years and would be extremely beneficial to have help develop their young studs into winning players. Houston we have a solution! cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Chris Stroud and Ryan Moore both overcame mistakes and bogeys on the back nine Saturday to take a share of the lead after the third round of the CIMB Classic. Stroud started the day five strokes back but surged into contention after five birdies on the front nine — including four in a row — before hitting into the water on the 12th hole and carding two bogeys for a 4-under 68. Moore (69) opened up a three-shot lead on the back nine only to bogey four of five holes to give it right back. Both were on 12-under 204. "Theres trouble everywhere," Moore said. "It doesnt take that bad of a shot to get in a very bad spot out here, with the rough the way it is, the fairways as narrow as they are." The tricky conditions led to huge momentum swings throughout the day at the PGA Tour event, with plenty of balls in the water and in the rough beneath the palm trees lining the course at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. Overnight leader Keegan Bradley looked nothing like the golfer who shot 65 and 66 in the first two rounds, carding 76 to fall back to a share of sixth place. There wont be much room for mistakes on Sunday. Eight players are within four shots of the lead, with Gary Woodland (67) and Kiradech Aphibarnrat (69) a stroke back in a tie for second. Even Phil Mickelson, who this week called his swing "terrible" and said he sometimes has no idea where his drives are going, is back in contention, shooting a 68 to sit just five shots off the lead. The back nine proved the most problematic for the top players on Saturday, with its narrow fairways and multitude of water hazards and bunkers. Moore had six birdies through 10 holes, only to hit into the water on No. 12 and 16 on his rough back nine. "It was almost two different days out there," said the American, who is aiming for this third PGA Tour title. "I got really hot early making a lot of putts, making a lot of birdies and then turned into the backside and still continued some good play and then kind of hit a pretty rough stretch in the middle. I kind of made a mess of it." Bradley shanked drives to the left and right, finding himself in the water and under trees. On the greens, he left some birdie putts short and missed others by inches. He finished his disappointing round with a double bogey and three bogeys on the back nine, plus another bogey on the front. "Just didnt play very well today, just was pretty ugly," Bradley said. Still, Bradley is just three shots off the pace and thinks he can turn it around. Kiradech, too, believes he has a good shot at capturing the title, even though he also wasted opportunities to take the lead on the back nine with a double bogey and a missed 5-foot birdie putt on the 17th. The Thai golfer has a lot on the line - a win on Sunday would give him a two-year PGA Tour exemption, as well as invitations to the Masters, the PGA Championship and other top-tier tournaments. Stroud, winless on the PGA Tour in nearly 200 events, believes hes ready for a breakthrough. This is the first time hes had a share of the lead through 54 holes. "My coach and I sat down this past week and we talked hours about what I need to do to win a golf tournament," he said. "I think I need to play one or two tournaments max in a row and just practice, practice, practice at home and put a lot of reps into the golf swing and get the golf swing a lot sharper than it usually is." His goal for Sunday is simple - keep the ball on the fairways. "Thats what Im really focusing on the most - keep the ball in front of me, let everybody else make mistakes." Asics Gt 2000 Mujer .
