The 55th-ranked Austrian saved five of the eight break points he faced and converted three of his 12 chances to defeat the Spaniard in 2 1/2 hours. Pagenaud won the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis on Saturday, the first IndyCar Series race on IMS road course, by stretching his fuel the final 29 laps. The Frenchman was one of several drivers to gamble on gas, and he took the lead when Oriol Servia had to stop with four laps remaining.ARLINGTON, VA – Jonathan Bernier remained off the ice Saturday afternoon as his teammates practiced at the Kettler IcePlex just outside of the D.C. area. His immediate status for the surging Leafs isnt quite clear at this point, though his situation is not believed to be serious. The 25-year-old left his long-awaited return to Los Angeles after just 20 minutes Thursday evening – his team rallying for a 3-2 win – unable to continue because of a nagging lower-body injury. Kept off the ice on Saturday – following a travel day on Friday – Bernier opted for two rounds of treatment on the ailment and may require an MRI to make certain that the injury is not serious. "Berniers still feeling the effects of the injury the other night, said head coach Randy Carlyle of the undisclosed issue following practice. "We dont think its that severe, but youd always like to make sure that you are making the right decision there." Carlyle said it had yet to be determined whether Bernier would indeed go for the MRI and whether he would be able to acquire the image in the Washington area or would require a trip back to Toronto. He wont play against the Capitals, though, in a Sunday matinee at the Verizon Center. That challenge will instead go to James Reimer, who was brilliant with 31 saves in Berniers place against the Kings. Superb in his first season with the Leafs, Bernier had been bothered by the injury before his return start in L. Chris Neild Redskins Jersey. .A. – he was "stiff" according to Carlyle – but felt well enough to give it a go opposite his former team. Sliding across his crease for one particular save in a first frame that saw the Kings jump out to a 2-0 lead – perhaps the extended right pad stop on Anze Kopitar – Bernier "didnt feel good" and opted to come out. He was replaced by Reimer, who guided the Leafs to their 15th win in the past 22 games. "We felt comfortable putting Reims in and, obviously, the way he played, he shut them out the rest of the way, you cant complain about that, thats for sure," said Carlyle. While hoping that the injury isnt serious, the Leafs arent certain when Bernier will return. Capturing wins in Anaheim and L.A., they have three games remaining on a season-long five-game road trip. Certainly out against Washington on Sunday, Carlyle wouldnt rule out a return for Bernier in Detroit, though, that would seem unlikely at this point given his inability to take the ice Saturday. The team recalled Drew MacIntyre from the Marlies to be the backup against Washington. Bernier was unavailable for comment. wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' '

(SportsNetwork. Nike Roshe One .com) - After sweeping a home-and-home series from the rival Pittsburgh Penguins over the weekend, the Philadelphia Flyers will try to stay hot when they host the Chicago Blackhawks in Tuesdays inter-conference showdown at Wells Fargo Center. Watch the game live on TSN2 starting at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt. The Flyers had lost two straight before beating the Penguins twice over the span of two days. Philadelphia hosted the Metropolitan Division leaders on Saturday and notched a 4-0 win behind a 25-save shutout from Steve Mason. The Flyers then headed across Pennsylvania to take a 4-3 decision in Pittsburgh on Sunday, with Mason picking up another win after making 20 saves. Matt Read scored twice for the Flyers on Saturday and Wayne Simmonds pumped home a pair of first-period power-play goals in Sundays triumph. The Flyers chased Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury with three goals in the first 14 minutes on Sunday before holding on for the 4-3 win. "Our team will get confidence from this. Any time you can beat Pittsburgh twice, even twice in a row, its a big boost. Thats still a very good team over there," offered Flyers head coach Craig Berube. Brayden Schenn tallied at even strength on Sunday and Read added a short- handed marker. Flyers captain Claude Giroux contributed a pair of assists in his 400th NHL game. The productive weekend pushed Philadelphia into second place in the Metropolitan Division, but the Pens still hold a 15-point lead atop the division. The Flyers are one point ahead of both Columbus and the New York Rangers in the competitive battle for the divisions three automatic playoff spots. The Flyers are kicking off a four-game homestand on Tuesday and also will host Dallas, St. Louis and Los Angeles during the stay in South Philadelphia. Berubes club is 19-12-1 at Wells Fargo this season and has won six of its last eight games as the host. The Blackhawks are visiting Philly for the second time since clinching a Stanley Cup title in the City of Brotherly Love on June 9, 2010. Chicago won Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals at the Wells Fargo Center, as Patrick Kane scored in overtime to deliver the franchises first championship since 1961. The Blackhawks added their second title in four seasons last spring when it beat Boston in six games for the Cup. The Flyers are 2-1-0 against Chicago since that postseason encounter nearly four years ago, but the Blackhawks slammed Philly by a 7-2 score when the teams met in the Windy City on Dec. 11. Former Flyer Patrick Sharp had a goal and two assists to lead the way in the rout. The Blackhawks halted a two-game slide in their last trip to the ice, recording a 4-1 home win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Marian Hossa scored a goal and assisted on two others in his return to Chicagos lineup. Hossa missed five consecutive games with an upper-body injury he suffered against Pittsburgh at Soldier Field on March 1. The Blackhawks went 2-3-0 in his absence. "(Hossa) changes the look and complexion of our team game. He made a big difference tonight," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville. Ben Smith had a goal and one assist for Chicago. Duncan Keith collected two assists, giving him 300 for his career, and Corey Crawford earned the win with 19 saves. Chicago is currently third in the Central Division and one point behind the Colorado Avalanche, who play Tuesday evening in Montreal. The Blackhawks are 18-9-7 as the visiting team this season. Following tonights tilt in Philly, the club will play its next four games on home ice. Chicago will not have forward Brandon Saad for Tuesdays game, as he did not make the trip to Philadelphia due to an upper-body injury suffered on Sunday. Saad, who has 19 goals and 44 points this season, will miss his first game of the 2013-14 campaign. Nike Roshe One Black and White . SAN DIEGO -- Other than one bad pitch, Chicago Cubs left-hander Travis Wood had a pretty good night. Wood came within five outs of pitching his first career shutout before allowing Carlos Quentins pinch-hit, two-run home run, and Chicago held on to beat the San Diego Padres 3-2 Saturday night. Wood (5-4) hit an RBI single and Luis Valbuena homered for the Cubs, who bounced back from an 11-1 loss Friday night. Wood allowed two runs and three hits in 7 1-3 innings, struck out three and walked two. "I felt good all game," Wood said. "I made a bad pitch there to Quentin. I wanted a cutter in, but didnt quite get it all the way in there and he got through it. But other than that everything was working pretty good all game." Quentin, who missed the previous four games with a groin injury, hit an 86 mph pitch an estimated 405 feet off the left-field facade with one out in the eighth to chase Wood. Quentin has five career pinch homers and two in one week. Yasmani Grandal was aboard on a one-out walk. Other than that, "my fastball was locating down and I got some quick outs there," Wood said. "All in all, no complaints other than one pitch, but thats going to happen." Quentin also hit a two-run, pinch homer last Saturday at Colorado. He hurt his groin on Sunday and hadnt played until Saturday nights appearance. "Thats a hard thing to do to pinch-hit -- one of the hardest roles in our game to come off the bench without playing and go step in the batters box against pitcher and hit a home run," manager Bud Black said. "That is hard to do and he has done it twice in a week. "When Carlos does that, that is what we expect," Black said. "He is a dynamic offensive player and our team changes." Problem is, the Padres havent seen much of Quentin this year. He missed the first 39 games after starting the season on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his left knee. "He makes us better,&" Black said. Nike Roshe One NM BR White. "Hes arguably our best offensive player each and every night he is in the game." Valbuena extended his hitting streak to eight games when he drove an 88 mph fastball from Billy Buckner into the right field seats with one out in the sixth. It was his third. Nate Schierholtz doubled to right with two outs. The Padres intentionally walked Darwin Barney to get to Wood, who singled up the middle to drive in Schierholtz. Valbuena also scored in the fourth, reaching on a walk, advancing on Welington Castillos single and coming in on Schierholtzs base hit. Hector Rondon pitched the ninth for his sixth save in seven chances. Buckner (0-1) started in place of Andrew Cashner, who is on the disabled list with a sore right elbow. Buckners contract was purchased earlier Saturday from Triple-A El Paso. He allowed three runs and six hits in 5 2-3 innings, struck out four and walked three. NOTES: In a pregame ceremony, the Padres honoured first responders involved in fighting last weeks wildfires. The players and coaches formed two lines in the outfield and greeted the first responders as they walked in from the warning track. ... Cashner played long toss for the first time since going on the disabled list, retroactive to May 15. Cashner will throw again Sunday. . RHP Tim Stauffer pitched well enough in Fridays win over the Cubs to earn another start. It will come on Wednesday at Arizona. . Newly acquired LHP Troy Patton, acquired from Baltimore in Saturdays trade for C Nick Hundley, will complement LHP Alex Torres in the bullpen. He should arrive in San Diego on Sunday. . Cubs OF Justin Ruggiano could rejoin the team on the road trip; hes been on the DL since April 24 with a strained hamstring. Ruggiano played consecutive games in Triple-A Iowa on Thursday and Friday. . Padres RHP Ian Kennedy (2-6, 3.79) faces Cubs RHP Jason Hammel (5-2, 2.91) in Sundays series finale. wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' '

VANCOUVER - A better effort produced the same the result for the Vancouver Canucks. Adidas Black Friday Deals . Martin St. Louis scored his first goal with the Rangers and Henrik Lundqvist made 34 saves Tuesday as New York defeated Vancouver 3-1. It was another frustrating night for the Canucks, who are all but assured of missing the playoffs for the first time in six seasons. Coming off a demoralizing 5-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, the Vancouver players showed the fight they have been preaching in the locker-room, but were unable to translate that effort into a result on the scoreboard. "I thought we should have won this game but it doesnt matter right now," said Canucks forward Daniel Sedin. "We are where we are because weve been on the wrong side of these kind of games throughout the season." Where the Canucks are is 10th in the Western Conference, six points back of the final wild-card berth with just five games left on their schedule. While the team has not been mathematically eliminated, the website sportsclubstats.com currently pegs Vancouvers chances of making the playoffs at zero. "Its always difficult. You battle all year to play in the playoffs and work to get a chance to play in the playoffs. Thats what its all about," said Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows. "When youre on the outside looking in youve got to keep playing and be a pro and work for each other." Daniel Carcillo and Benoit Pouliot had the other goals for New York (43-30-4), which has won seven of its last eight games and sits comfortably in an Eastern Conference playoff spot. Ryan Kesler replied for Vancouver (34-32-11), while Eddie Lack finished with 28 saves. "I think good teams find a way to win and right now were not finding that way," said Kesler. "Im not saying that were not a good team, were just not getting the job done." The game marked the regular-season return of Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault to Rogers Arena. Vigneault coached in Vancouver for seven seasons, winning six division titles and leading the Canucks to within a victory of the 2011 Stanley Cup. The Canucks fired Vigneault last summer after the clubs first-round playoff exit and replaced him with John Tortorella after the latter was axed by the Rangers. The flip flop of coaches has worked out much better for New York, with Vancouver limping towards an uncertain off-season. The Rangers led 2-1 after two periods and St. Louis, who was acquired at the trade deadline from the Tampa Bay Lightning, put the game out of reach while killing a penalty at 10:15 of the third. Vancouver defenceman Yannick Weber dove trying to keep the puck in at New Yorks blue-line but failed to do so, allowing Rick Nash and St. Louis to race the other way on a 2-on-1. Nash fed a perfect pass to St. Louis, who ripped his 30th of the season and first in 15 games since joining the Rangers. "I love to score goals, everyone loves to score goals, and 15 games plus the two prior to coming here, thats as long a drought as I have had in a while," said St. Louis. "There is a lot of things playing against you a little bit with a new team and new environment, but you try to stay the course, play the right way and find that fine line of anticipating and not cheating. "I feel like I am getting more comfortable finding that line." Vigneault said the commitment to defence shown by star players like St. Louis and Nash allows him to put them on a penalty kill that has 10 short-handed goals this season, and three in the last two games. "Those guys are willing to do that it takes to kill penalties, which is get in lanes and block shots and have good sticks and its paid off," said Vigneault. The Canucks trailed 2-0 after the first period but showed fight in the second for the embattled Tortorella, with Kesler cutting the Rangers lead in half at 6:21. Sedin grabbed the puck off an offensive zone faceoff and found Kesler in the slot, who snapped his 24th of the season through a surprised Lundqvist. "I thought it was a good hockey game. I thought we played better through the game than the other night (against Anaheim)," said Tortorella. "I thought our team played hard. We dont score. They score three, we score one." The Rangers grabbed a 1-0 lead at 4:59 of the first when Carcillo banged home his fourth of the season on a play that had the Canucks fuming. Lack appeared to have the puck covered but Rangers forward Brian Boyle jarred it loose moments before the goal. "I felt like I had it under my glove and then I get a pitchfork and I lost it and they scored," said Lack. "(The ref) said that he was going to look at it after." New York stretched the lead to 2-0 at 14:43 on the power play. Lack made a great blocker save on Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello, but the puck bounced to Derick Brassard, who in turn fed a wide open Pouliot for his 13th. "No whining. We lost. Were losing," said Tortorella. "Weve just got to keep on trying to get better." NOTES: Burrows was assessed a five-minute penalty for elbowing on Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh late in the third period. McDonagh appeared to be in some discomfort as he left the ice, but Vigneault did not provide an update after the game. ... New York set a franchise record with its 25th road victory of the season. ... The Rangers and Canucks played during the pre-season at Rogers Arena in September. The Canucks honoured Vigneault on the videoboard during that game, but did not pay tribute to their former coach on Tuesday. Uggs Cyber Monday . The four-time Grand Slam champion has beaten Hantuchova nine straight times, with the Slovaks only win coming when they first played 10 years ago. "I had a tough first opponent who can play extremely good tennis," Sharapova said. "I wanted to start the match off well. It was extremely important to put that pressure on her from the beginning. I think I did that really well today." Sharapova hit 10 aces, saved all seven break points she faced, and broke Hantuchovas serve six times. ADELBODEN, Switzerland -- Ted Ligety and Marcel Hirschers latest World Cup giant slalom duel is set to go ahead Saturday despite unseasonably warm weather in the Swiss mountains. Cheap NFL Jerseys China . Adelboden race chief Hans Pieren said Friday that temperatures reached 20 C (68 F) on the course the previous day, as Europe experiences warmth while North America freezes. "It will be like spring, with water splashing up from the snow on your legs," Ligety, who won the GS race here last year, told The Associated Press. Team coaches were told Friday that Adelboden had recorded its hottest January temperature since it was a venue in the debut World Cup season of 1967. "We have tried everything we can and we have enough snow," Pieren said. Sunshine and temperatures of at least 6 C (43 F) are forecast Saturday for the two-run race, staged over fields which are cow pasture in summer. Ligety, the world champion and World Cup title holder in giant slalom, and Hirscher, the Austrian two-time defending overall World Cup winner, have combined to win all four races in the discipline this season. They have been joined on the podium by Alexis Pinturault of France in five of the past seven World Cup GS races, since Ligetys victory here one year ago. Austrian head coach Mathias Berthold suggested the soft conditions could open up the race beyond the dominant trio. "It might be a little easier for the others to catch up," Berthold said. Whether hes also out of the teams quarterback competition remains to be seen. The Jets announced Sunday that Sanchez is "day-to-day" with an injured shoulder that will sideline him for the teams preseason finale against Philadelphia on Thursday night. Sanchez, competing with rookie Geno Smith for the starting job, was unlikely to play in that game anyway. The team did not announce the nature or severity of Sanchezs injury, suffered in the Jets 24-21 overtime victory over the Giants on Saturday night. Sanchez had an X-ray after the game on the shoulder, which apparently revealed no fractures, and an MRI exam Sunday to determine if theres any damage. The Jets announcement indicated that Sanchez likely does not have a season-ending injury. Still, theres a chance Sanchez might not be ready in time for the regular-season opener against Tampa Bay on Sept. 8. Sanchez, who appeared in good shape to beat out Smith for the starting job, left with 5:40 left in the fourth quarter when he took a hard hit in the shoulder from Marvin Austin after he completed a 23-yard pass to Mohamed Massaquoi. Sanchez stayed on the turf, writhing in pain for a few moments as the teams trainers ran out to check on him. When he eventually got up, the quarterback flexed his right arm and hand as he headed to the sideline. He took one practice throw on the sideline and appeared to shake his head "No." Trainers wrapped his shoulder in ice before taking him to the locker room. Coach Rex Ryan has taken a lot of heat from media and fans for bringing in Sanchez that late in the game behind an offensive line made up of backups. While it was similar to the line he played with in the third quarter of last weeks win over Jacksonville, it seemed somewhat curious why Sanchez -- who many assumed had moved ahead in the competition -- would be put in at that point. Cheap Jerseys. "I understand being second-guessed when an injury happens," Ryan said. "Certainly I understand that. But thats football." Smith struggled in his first NFL start, throwing three interceptions and stepping out of the back of the end zone for a safety while playing into the fourth quarter. Ryan and Smith said after the game that the plan all along was to have Sanchez play after Smith. "I would not have put Mark in there if it wasnt important," Ryan said. Ryan also turned testy -- turning his body sideways to the media at one point -- while refusing to definitively answer whether Smith could still win the quarterback competition despite his poor performance. "I can say anything I want," he said. "Thats the beauty of this country. I can answer it 100 (times). I can stand backwards and answer the question. Im going sideways. Well make the announcement when I think its the appropriate time." Sanchez finished 5 of 6 for 72 yards and a lost fumble, but had likely moved ahead of Smith in the competition. Now, if Sanchez must miss a few weeks, Smith could be the Week 1 starter. The only other quarterbacks on the roster are the inexperienced Greg McElroy and Matt Simms. "As long as Rex and the committee are evaluating us, I think I have a shot," Smith said after the game. "As Ive stated, I dont think one game, one practice, one day will tell you the type of quarterback I am. I think it takes a ton of evaluation to get this thing done." wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' '

VANCOUVER - Sorry, Canada. Cheap Jerseys . Vancouver Canucks coach John Tortorella has apologized for favouring Sweden over Canada in the mens Olympic gold-medal hockey game. "If I have insulted anybody, that certainly wasnt my intention and I think all of you know that," he said after practice Tuesday. "But it was a careless use of words and where I should be more cognizant. I want to clear that up." Tortorella said he wanted Sweden to win in order to help struggling Canucks defenceman Alex Edler and winger Daniel Sedin turn their seasons around. Edler and Sedin played for Sweden in the Games while goaltender Roberto Luongo and Dan Hamhuis were members of the gold-medal-winning Canada squad. "My sole intent — and still is — was worrying about the Vancouver Canucks and the players (who were in the Olympics), how good theyre feeling," said Tortorella. The Canucks are mired in a seven-game losing streak that has left them in a battle for a playoff berth heading into the stretch drive of the season. Canada beat the U.S. in the semifinal to qualify for the final against Sweden. Tortorella, a 55-year-old Boston native known for his outspoken ways that often rankle people, was an assistant with the American squad that lost the 2010 gold-medal game to Canada in Vancouver. He joined the Canucks after being fired by the New York Rangers in the off-season, and former Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault replaced him in the Big Apple. "As I said when I was hired here, its an absolute privilege to coach in Canada, and I still feel that," said Tortorella. "I love everything about it. I love the pressure. I love the scrutiny, all the second-guessing (and) all that stuff that comes with it. I couldnt be happier and, to me, more complete as far as what I want to do as a coach and to coach in this country." Tortorella said he sent a text message of apology to one Team Canada coach and it was passed on to all of the others after Canada blanked the Swedes 3-0 on Sunday. He also praised Hockey Canada for the work that it does. Wholesale Jerseys . They blew it. The 58-minute victory ended the Americans win streak at 24 matches with titles at their last five events. "Today we played amazing, that was the most important thing," said Nestor. "We played well on a big occasion when it really mattered." Nestor, 41, from Toronto, claimed his fifth trophy in the Spanish capital after capturing it three times with Mark Knowles of the Bahamas (2002, 2004, 2009). He has won the last two (09, 14) with Zimonjic. Nestor and his Serbian partner have won 26 titles together, including two this year. They won in Sydney in January and have lost in the final in Dubai and Barcelona on clay. Nestor also won the Brisbane title alongside Mariusz Fyrstenberg in the opening week of the season. Nestor moved into third in all-time titles with 84, trailing Mike Bryan (100) and Bob Bryan (9. Nestor appeared in his 139th doubles final. The victory was redemption for Nestor and Zimonjic after losing to the Bryans in a Monte Carlo semifinal, their only otherr previous meeting this year with the top-ranked Americans. Cheap MLB Jerseys. "I cant complain about a fifth trophy here," said Nestor, "Weve had a couple of chances to win titles this year but we didnt play well on those opportunities. "We got ahead early against them today, that is the key, They are such great front-runners. Its important to lead or at least stay close. We had some tough situations but we fought through them. Weve been resilient all year. Its nice to play our best match in the final." Nestor said the 800-metre Madrid altitude has always been good for him. Up next for Nestor and his partner will be an event in Rome, the last major tuneup prior to the French Open, which begins May 25. "I have a lot of experience at altitude form South American Davis Cup matches," said Nestor. "It will be an adjustment next week to get back to sea level but there is nothing better than playing matches and winning them. "This is the best situation possible going into a grand slam. We have huge confidence, we really put it together this week with four really good matches. Its a good sign going forward." wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' '

Gaborik was acquired in a trade with Columbus on Wednesday and skated on the top line with centre Anze Kopitar and right-winger Justin Williams. "We created some things," said Gaborik, who logged 16:38 of ice time. "We had some good time on the power play as well. "We got some great help by our (defence) offensively as well so I think its going to get better and better." Mike Richards scored the game winner on a Winnipeg giveaway that helped run the Kings (36-22-6) winning streak to six games. "I was just as excited as a lot of the people that were here that came in from (my hometown) of Kenora (Ont.)," Richards said of the 20-plus game tickets he had to find. Captain Dustin Brown had Los Angeles first goal and Alec Martinez added a third-period power-play goal. Goalie Jonathan Quick only needed to make 17 saves for his 20th win of the season. Olli Jokinen notched his 15th goal of the season for Winnipeg (30-27-7) and a busy Ondrej Pavelec stopped 38 shots. "They move the puck well, they can spend a lot of time in your zone," Pavelec said. "We have to forget about this one and focus on the next one." Winnipeg and Phoenix were tied at 67 points heading into the game, one point behind Dallas for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Vancouver was one back of the Jets and Coyotes. Vancouver was visiting Dallas on Thursday night and Phoenix was hosting Montreal. "I liked the speed of the game that we started the game with," Jets head coach Paul Maurice said. "I thought we moved the puck sharp and we moved our feet. And then I thought we ran into the L.A. Kings. "When theyre at their best, they will take your game and frustrate you to the point that you start to change what youre trying to do because theres nothing given easily." Winnipeg didnt get its first shot of the second period until almost seven minutes in, but the Jets scored on their 11th of the game. Evander Kane went around Kings defenceman Drew Doughty and then beat Muzzin to the puck off the boards behind the net, sending a quick pass to Jokinen who shot the puck past Quick at 12:03. But the jubilation of the MTS Centre only lasted 42 seconds. Brown scored his 12th goal of the season after centre Jarret Stoll sent a long backhand pass across the front of the net that hit Browns skate and the puck trickled across the goal-line past Pavelec at 12:45. Then Jets defenceman Tobias Enstrom, at the boards by the Kings bench, made a pass across the ice that was supposed to be for Jokinen. Richards intercepted it halfway, crossed the blue-line and then fired a shot by Pavelec at 16:15 for his ninth of the season. Los Angeles also outshot the Jets 10-6 in the second. The Kings are now 19-0-0 this season when leading after the second period. With Jets forward Blake Wheeler in the penalty box for high-sticking, defenceman Martinez scored unassisted at 15:51 with a shot on Pavelecs blocker side. The Jets had to juggle all four lines from Tuesdays 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Islanders because of injuries. Winnipeg rookie centre Mark Scheifele sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during the loss. The second-line centre is out for at least four weeks and possibly the rest of the regular season. Forward Chris Thorburn was also injured in the game and is listed day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Those deletions made Maurice put his top line of Andrew Ladd, centre Bryan Little and Wheeler back together. Jokinen was centring the second line with Kane and Byfuglien. Michael Frolik, whos only played a few games at centre during his six-year NHL career, was put in the middle with Matt Halischuk and Devin Setoguchi. The fourth line was centred by Jim Slater with Eric Tangradi and Anthony Peluso. Teetering Tenures In a live chat on Tuesday afternoon, ESPN.coms Katie Strange said she believes Dustin Byfuglien may not be a member of the Winnipeg Jets much longer. In a response to a question about the future of the 6-foot-5, 265 lbs. defenceman, Strange was short and to the point. "I can see Dustin Byfuglien being dealt, yes. His size, offensive ability, and versatility will likely be attractive to some teams. Right-handed defensemen are hard to find," she wrote. Byfuglien is third among all defenceman with 10 goals and 37 points, but is ranked in the bottom three with a minus-16 rating.Another veteran whose job may be on the line, according to Strange, is New York Rangers forward Brad Richards. Strange said despite the price tag - six years left after this season at $6.67 million per year - the Rangers will decide Richards future based on how many "good years" they believe he has left. Richards will be 40 when his contract expires. Volatile Venture With the post-season now a realistic possibility for the surging Ottawa Senators, general manager Bryan Murray seems ready to make a deal. "We are available to make a deal," he said in a connference call Tuesday. Kroy Biermann Falcons Jersey. However, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun writes that one of the prized names on the market, Buffalo Sabres forward Matt Moulson, may be a little too pricey for the nations capital. Brennan says one NHL executive believes a deal between the Senators and Sabres "makes sense", but another executive said the Sabres would likely ask for too much in the form of "a minimum of a first (round pick) and a top young player. And Im not even sure they even want a first in this draft." Moulson is making $3.13 million this year and is said to be looking for a long-term deal and double his current wage. The Senators likely wont be willing to give up the pieces or dollars for a deal going forward. Faint Twinkle If the Dallas Stars find themselves sinking further and further out of the playoff picture, a veteran sale might be on the way. Mike Heika of the Dallas News said Tuesday that if the Stars remain on the outside looking in at the beginning of February or after the Olympics, then "players like Vern Fiddler, Ray Whitney and Erik Cole will be made available." The Stars dont have to look far into the past as a reference for such moves. Last year the team sent Brendan Morrow to the Pittsburgh Penguins less than two weeks before the trade deadline and traded Jaromir Jagr to the Boston Bruins and Derek Roy to the Vancouver Canucks the day before. Heika says the Stars may also be interested in moving defencemen Trevor Daley or Alex Goligoski. wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' '

INDIANAPOLIS -- Connor Cook was determined to shake things up in the Big Ten title game. Asics Gel Lyte v Black . By the end of the night, the sophomore quarterbacks teammates were bouncing up and down right along with him. No. 10 Michigan State rallied from a seven-point third-quarter deficit by scoring the final 17 points Saturday night to upset No. 2 Ohio State 34-24 and deny the Buckeyes a chance to play for the BCS national championship. Cook and the Spartans were more than happy to oblige. "I think we heard people talk bad about us all year. This wasnt the first week where we heard people say negative things about us as an offence or as a football team, Cook said after throwing a 9-yard TD pass with 11:41 left to give the Spartans a 27-24 lead. "I think we were underdogs in the majority of the games we played this year. It really didnt affect us." But the Spartans big win may prove costly in the leagues bigger picture. A win would have made No. 2 Ohio State (12-1) a virtual lock to play in its fourth BCS title game, and there was speculation the Spartans (12-1) might go to Pasadena anyway for the Rose Bowl, regardless of Saturday nights result. Instead, the Spartans are still likely to book their first Rose Bowl trip since the 1987 season, while the Buckeyes must wait until Sunday night to find out which bowl theyll play in -- and whether theyll play in a BCS game. Michigan States victory put Auburn, who the Buckeyes were rooting for last week against Alabama, in the title game against Florida State. To the Buckeyes, it was a deflating night. "You know its going to haunt all of us, I imagine, for a little while," Meyer said. "But thats part of the game." It was a game that almost defied logic. Ohio State came into the game with the nations longest winning streak (24), had not lost under Meyer in two seasons and had one of the nations most productive offences and underrated defences. Michigan State turned the conventional wisdom upside down by scoring the first 17 points. Then the nations stingiest defence gave up the next 24 points as Braxton Miller, Carlos Hyde & Co. took command. Cook responded to the challenge by driving the Spartans for a field goal, hooking up with the wide open Josiah Price in the flat of the end zone and then burned 3 1/2 critical minutes on the clinching drive, capped by Jeremy Langfords sealing 26-yard TD run. Cook finished 24 of 40 for a career-high 304 yards and three scores. Langford ran 24 times for 128 yards, becoming the first player this season to top 100 yards against the Buckeyes this season. For Michigan State, it was a milestone night. It won its 12th game for the first time in school history, completed a perfect conference season and extended its own winning streak to nine -- something it had not done since starting 1966 at 9-0. Most important, the players got to hold the roses for the first time since 1987 and the celebration began even before the final seconds ticked off the clock. "Were going to live this one for a while, live it for a month," coach Mark Dantonio said. "But its important that we finish what we started and that will end with a bowl game." Miller did what he could to rally the Buckeyes, finishing 8 of 21 for 101 yards with one touchdown pass. He also ran 21 times for 142 yards and two scores, while Carlos Hyde ran 18 times for 118 yards. Both joined the Buckeyes 3,000-yard club, becoming the seventh and eight players of the schools exclusive group. Starting right guard Marcus Hall, who Meyer said would not start after last weeks fight at Michigan, did not play. Meyer said he made that decision earlier this week. But it was the stinging loss that really hurt. "Things happen in games, dont really go your way," Miller said. "Youve got to come back and fix the mistakes." The Buckeyes did that late in the first half when they closed to 17-10 at halftime. Miller opened the second half with an 8-yard TD run to tie and then gave Ohio State the 24-17 lead with a 6-yard run with 5:36 left in the third. Michigan State answered with Michael Geigers 44-yard field goal, which barely dropped over the crossbar, to make it 24-20 and Cook hooked up with a wide-open Price in the flat to make it 27-24 before Langford sealed it with his TD run with 2:16 left, which prompted Dantonio to lobby for the Spartans to be playing in the title game Jan. 6. "I can tell you this, we beat the No. 2 team.," Dantonio said. "Were 12-1 so why not us? Why not us? Ill vote us No. 2." Asics Gel Noosa Tri 9 Damen . DETROIT -- By Justin Verlanders lofty standards, this was a so-so performance. Nike Roshe Run Women Black And White . It was more than enough to boost a battered Detroit pitching staff. Verlander pitched seven solid innings Thursday to lead the Tigers to a 5-2 win over the big-hitting New York Mets. Detroit had allowed 30 runs in the first two games of the series, but Verlander finished a terrific June by holding New York at bay, preventing a sweep. "Each day is a new day in baseball, and thats the beautiful thing about this. They go out and score however many runs in two days with a bunch of hits, but you turn the page," Verlander said. "Youve got to know as a starting pitcher, no matter what theyve done before, if you make your pitches and execute, good pitching beats good hitting." The Mets had scored a team-record 52 runs in their previous four games. Verlander (11-3) held them to one run and seven hits. He finished June with a 6-0 record and a 0.92 earned-run average, and tied CC Sabathia for the major league lead in wins this season. Verlander has won his last seven starts, allowing two or fewer runs in each. "Hes awesome," Mets star Jose Reyes said. "We had him in trouble a couple times, but he always makes a pitch to get out of it. Thats why he is one of the best in the game." Daniel Murphy and Carlos Beltran homered for New Yorks only runs. Andy Dirks hit a solo shot for the Tigers. Mike Pelfrey (4-7) allowed four earned runs in 4 2-3 innings for the Mets, who start a three-game home series against the Yankees on Friday night. Detroit needed a good start from Verlander after losing 16-9 the previous night and 14-3 on Tuesday. Every Tiger that pitched Wednesday gave up at least one run -- except utilityman Don Kelly, who took the mound during the ninth that night in an amusing scene. Verlander was up to the task. He threw 120 pitches, striking out six and walking two. It wasnt his most dominating effort, but it came at an important time. "I didnt pitch well, I battled well," Verlander said. "Thats something I pride myself on. Ive been on a pretty good run here, had pretty doggone good stuff for a period of time here. Youve got to know that thats not going to last an entire season." About the only thing Verlander didnt do was get Reyes out. The splendid shortstop reached base in all three plate appearances against the Detroit ace, but didnt come around to score. Reyes led off the game with a double, and the Mets seemed ready to break loose once again. But Jason Pridie followed by lining into a double play. Verlander said the Tigers actually caught a break when they let Reyes stretch his bloop hit into a double because second baseman Ramon Santiago stayed in position to catch Pridies hit. "We kind of got lucky there," Verlander said. "If hes on first base -- thats assuming he hasnt stolen second base yet -- were playing double-play depth. That ball off the end of the bat is a base hit." With the Mets down 5-1, Lucas Duda led off the seventh with a triple, but he was thrown out by left-fielder Brennan Boesch when he tagged up and tried to score on a fly ball. Mets manager Terry Collins came out to argue, but to no avail. "The way hes pitching right now, its unbelievable," Dirks said. "We just try to play good defence behind him and put up some runs and win the ballgame." Joaquin Benoit relieved Verlander and allowed Beltrans 12th homer of the season. The Mets hit no homers in their 16-run outburst Wednesday. Jose Valverde finished for his 19th save. Pelfrey gave up eight hits and struck out three. He tied a career high with five walks, all in the first three innings. Detroit left the bases loaded in the first, but Austin Jackson hit an RBI single for the Tigers in the second to make it 1-1 after Murphy homered in the top half. The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the third, and Alex Avila hit a sacrifice fly. Santiago then hit an RBI single, and centre-fielder Angel Pagans throw to third was wild for an error, allowing another run to come home. Dirks homered in the fifth to make it 5-1. New York right-hander Manny Acosta left in the eighth with a hyperextended wrist on his throwing arm after making an acrobatic play to field a bunt by Santiago. At 6-2 in the Big 12, Iowa State is off to its best start in conference play since the 2000-01 season. The Cyclones, who are presently tied with West Virginia for second place, have won their last two games to improve to 16-4 overall. ISU whipped TCU at home on Saturday, 83-66, and the squad will try to climb a game over .500 in true road tests with a win tonight, and in the process earn its first regular-season sweep of the Jayhawks since 2000-01. Kansas holds down first place in the Big 12 standings, as the team has won four straight to elevate its league ledger to 7-1, and its overall record to 18-3. The Jayhawks took down visiting Kansas State on Saturday, 68-57, to improve to 11-0 at home. These two teams met in Ames on Jan. 17, with the Cyclones prevailing in an 86-81 final. As a result, the team is netting 80.3 ppg in hitting 49.1 percent of its total shots, but only 35.1 percent of its 3-point tries. Iowa States defensive stance allows the opposition 68.6 ppg, behind typical shooting efforts of .414 overall, .339 from beyond the arc, and .751 at the foul line. Kansas played exceptional defense in Saturdays win over rival Kansas State, as it held the Wildcats to 33.3 percent field goal efficiency, which included a horrific 17.1 percent (6-of-35) effort in the first half. K-State finished with five 3-pointers, but went 0-of-7 from distance during the opening 20 minutes. The Jayhawks were only 44.8 percent accurate from the floor, and they had a rough day at the charity stripe (10-of-17). Ellis produced another double-double with 16 points and 12 boards, while Wayne Selden, Jr. chipped in with 14 points, Brannen Greene 11 and Mason III 10 in the winning effort. For the season, Kansas is putting up 71.8 ppg, thanks in large part to its near-40 percent performance out on the perimeter and 70.8 percent showing at the free-throw line. Balance has been the key, as seven players average at least 6.0 ppg, including double-digit scorers Ellis (12.8 ppg) and Mason III (12.7 ppg). The Jayhawks have done well for the themselves at the defensive end by yielding 64.2 ppg, with foes shooting just 39.8 percent from the field. A +5.9 rebounding differential has also helped the team achieve some of its goals this season. wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' '

CALGARY -- Led by a rookie forward and a journeyman goaltender, the Calgary Flames continued their strong start to the season. Nike Air Huarache Dame . Sean Monahan had a goal and an assist and Joey MacDonald made 33 saves to lead the Calgary Flames to a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. "Obviously its a great start," said Monahan, who has scored in three straight games and is tied at five points for the team scoring lead with Jiri Hudler. "We havent lost a game in regulation. Losings something I dont like to do, so its been a lot of fun. Im getting more comfortable every day." Calgary coach Bob Hartley praised the effort of his rookie centre, who turns 19 on Saturday. "I sometimes pinch myself and wonder if I need to check his birth certificate, the poise he is showing for an 18-year-old kid," Hartley said. "He is having fun, he is bringing passion, he is bringing excitement and hes learning. He is a pretty special kid." Sven Baertschi and Curtis Glencross also scored for Calgary (2-0-2). The last time the Flames recorded points in the first four games of a season was back in 2009-10 when they went 4-0-0 before going 0-2-1 in their next three games. MacDonald started his third straight game after backstopping Calgary to a 4-3 road win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday, before helping the Flames salvage a point in a 5-4 overtime loss at home to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. "Tonight we stuck with it," said MacDonald, who previously played for the Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings before the Flames claimed him off of waivers part way through last season. "Its a learning experience for the young guys to show them how important it is. They came out hard." P.K. Subban had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens (1-2-0), who hadnt played since skating to a 4-1 win at home over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. "We werent ready to play right from the start, including myself," Subban said. "We can continue to say its the beginning of the season and were just getting things going, but weve got to come out better than that. "We knew this was a hungry team, we knew they were a young team. They had some young players in the lineup and weve got to take advantage of that. I dont think we did a good enough job." Lars Eller, with his fourth goal and sixth point, also scored for Montreal, while Carey Price made 22 saves. Both Calgary and Montreal finished 1 for 3 on the power play. Despite being outshot 12-4 in the opening frame, the Flames took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Monahan opened the scoring at 9:09 of the first period when he tapped a rebound into the net behind Price. Monahan started the play with a behind-the-back pass to Lee Stempniak, who fired a shot on goal that Price stopped with his right pad. The puck bounced right to Monahan, who drove straight to the net after making the pass. "Thats always a good feeling," Monahan said. "Theres nowhere else to put it than in the back of the net. I jumped all over that and I was pretty excited." Baertschi then scored his first of the season with 1:27 remaining in the first when he tapped a cross-crease pass from Monahan behind a sprawling Price. Hudler helped set up the play by jarring the puck loose from Montreal defenceman Jarred Tinordi by virtue of a big hit behind the net. During a Montreal man advantage in the second period, MacDonald stopped a Subban point blast before stacking his pads to prevent back-to-back shots off the stick of Andrei Markov from getting into the net behind him. "Its just battling," MacDonald said. "You never give up on the puck. It might not be the nicest style, but youve got to stop the puck. When your team sees those saves, it kind of gives them a little momentum. I think we kind of built off that." Then on a Calgary power play, Glencross tipped a point shot by Dennis Wideman past Price at 16:22 of the second. Just 84 seconds later with the Calgary captain Mark Giordano in the penalty box for tripping, Subban fired a point shot into the top corner to end MacDonalds shut-out bid. At 10:40 of the third, Eller pulled Montreal within a goal. Subban let go a shot from the point that went wide, but bounced off the boards and right onto the stick of Eller, who swatted the puck into a wide-open net. The Canadiens pressed hard to tie up the game until Subban took a cross-checking penalty with 1:49 remaining in regulation. "We worked so hard in the third and in the second to bring ourselves into striking distance of tying the game up," Subban said. "Right when we were about to turn the corner, you take that penalty so it really sucks." Notes: Montreal forward Rene Bourque played in his 500th NHL game. Bourque started his career in Chicago with the Blackhawks, with whom he played 183 games before suiting up for 249 contests with the Flames and the last 68 with the Canadiens. a Hudlers next goal will be the 100th of his NHL career. a Monahan, Stempniak and Hudler have all recorded at least one point all four games the Flames have played this season. WINNIPEG -- Some played together in college, others may have played on the same professional teams, but Thursday evening those friendships get pushed aside as Canada once again tries to beat the United States in womens soccer. Nike Air Max 90 Womens Black . Its something the Canadians havent managed since 2001 but this time theyll have a home crowd edging close to 30,000 to cheer them on at Investors Group Field, the home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. "Its a game that Canada wont dominate," Canadian coach John Herdman said Wednesday after their final practice before the game. "Were not going to have 700 shots and 700 crosses, so the fans have got to be ready to really get behind us when we need (them). We know these games are always tough tight games, hopefully." In club and varsity soccer, Canadians and Americans play side-by-side. Canadian captain Christine Sinclair, for example, is an attack partner of American star Alex Morgan on Portland Thorns FC of the National Womens Soccer League. But internationally its a different story as the neighbouring countries have developed a strong rivalry. Canada is ranked seventh in the world in womens soccer and the U.S. sits at No. 1, but American midfielder Lauren Holiday suggests those numbers dont necessarily reflect the way things play out on the field. "Every game is such a battle, you never know whos going to win," says Holiday. "Every time we play them its such a fierce competition that . . . anything can happen." The rivalry intensified after Canadas semifinal loss to the United States at the last Olympics. The U.S. team went on to win gold but Canada won the bronze medal, an event which has meant a lot for womens soccer. Herdman says the country now needs to do more capitalize on the strong base of players now developing across Canada. "Weve got the third largest playing population in the world and we cant produce a consistent podium team." He says there are 350,000 girls playing soccer in Canada, compared with just 30,000 in perennial contender Japan. This game is just a friendly but it will give both national teams another chance to see how they stack up against a top tier opponent prior to next years Womens World Cup. And while Canada wont be playing there, the U.S. team might end up playing in Winnipeg, one of the venues for the 2015 event also being held in Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal and Moncton. Herdman also said jokingly that this game is basically dedicated to midfielder Desiree Scott, a Winnipeg native who joined him at the final pre-game news conference. She will be playing live in front of her family for the first time in her national team career. "I think its going to be the Desi Scott show tomorrow," said Herdman. "I think the whole of Manitobas going to come and see her in action. . . "Its a proud moment for the team. Weve all got a massive smile on our face cause the local girl gets to come home. Can you imagine playing in front of your mom and your family for the first time, no pressure Des." Scott likes the buzz. "Im just trying to thrive off the excitement of playing at home," said Scott, nicknamed "The Destroyer." "And being in front of my family and friends, I think it will definitely give me that energy." For both Herdman and interim head U.S. coach Jill Ellis, this is very much about preparing for the World Cup. "I think for our players its just a great opportunity to play against a quality opponent," said Ellis, U.S. Soccers director of development who took over when Tom Sermanni was fired last month. "Im just hoping the crowd now will get a real sense of whats coming in 2015," said Herdman. "This country will stop at some point. This team will make the country stop and everyone will tune in. Its just going to be an amazing experience for womens sport." Nike Air Max 90 Womens White . Paolo Lorenzi of Italy also advanced, beating Colombias Alejandro Gonzalez 6-2, 6-1. The top four seeded players, who received byes into the second round, are Fabio Fognini (1) of Italy and three Spaniards -- Tommy Robredo (2), Nicolas Almagro (3) and Marcel Granollers (4). Nike Air Max 90 Mens For Sale . Buycks was reassigned to the Jam on March 5. He appeared in three games, totalling 61 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in 98 minutes. http://www.nikehuaracheuk.net/cheap-nike-air-max-90-sneakers.html . The Buffalo Sabres have traded Moulson and Cody McCormick to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Torrey Mitchell and a second-round draft pick in both 2014 and 2016.INDIANAPOLIS -- Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti will drive the pace car in the 98th running of the Indy 500 in May. Franchitti was forced to retire in November from injuries suffered in an October IndyCar race at Houston. The four-time series champion won the Indy 500 in 2007, 2010 and 2012. "It is a tremendous honour for me to be asked to drive the pace car for the Indianapolis 500," said Franchitti. "As a historian of motorsport and as a three-time winner of this great race, I will appreciate every minute of getting to pace the field. Although I wont be competing in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, this will be as close as one person can get to the action." Franchitti will pace the field in the May 25 race in a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. Its the eighth time a Camaro has served as the pace car, and the 25th time a Chevrolet has paced the race. "He is a true champion who has earned the respect and admiration of competitors and race fans alike," said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice-president of performance vehicles and motorsports. &"It will be very special to have Dario lead the field to the green flag at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Nike Air Huarache Run. " Franchittis appearance as the pace car driver signifies a huge shift in Franchittis career. Hes moved into a driver development role with Chip Ganassi Racing, which switched to Chevrolet for the 2014 IndyCar season. Chevrolet has a long history with Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Indianapolis 500 and the IndyCar Series. Chevrolet was founded in 1911, the year of the inaugural 500-mile race, and the Chevrolet brothers - company co-founder Louis, Arthur and Gaston - all competed in early Indy 500 races. Arthur Chevrolet competed in the 1911 race and Gaston Chevrolet won it in 1920. "We are excited to see Dario Franchitti back at the Brickyard, where he has had a very successful driving career," said Doug Boles, president of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "Not only will his appearance in the Camaro Z/28 pace car thrill race fans, it underscores Chevrolets important place in the past, present and future of the Indianapolis 500." wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' '

And on the final day of draft weekend, they took the first step toward doing just that. Carl Gunnarsson, selected with the 194th overall pick at the draft in Columbus seven years earlier, was dealt to St. Louis on Saturday morning for thick Czech defenceman and longtime Blue, Roman Polak. He is the first addition to a roster that promised to change following another late season meltdown. Adjustment to a mismatched and ineffective back-end was a must for the Leafs, who finished near the league basement defensively last season – yielding more shots against than any other club. Polak, while not an upgrade to the steady, but increasingly over-taxed Gunnarsson, does offer a different kind of presence to the Toronto defence, something brawnier and edgier for head coach Randy Carlyle, if not quite better. Gunnarsson, it was ultimately deemed, could be replaced on the top pairing with something similar internally. "We like our defence individually," general manager Dave Nonis said after the final round of the draft was completed on Saturday afternoon, "[but] we didnt necessarily like how they fit together last year. We wanted to move some pieces and change the look, rebuild it a little bit. I wouldnt say its a major overhaul by doing something like this, but it does give us a different element and its a player we didnt really have." Maybe more significant is how the trade promises to open up further opportunity for the clubs two top guns on defence: Morgan Rielly and Jake Gardiner. By removing Gunnarsson – who teamed with Dion Phaneuf on left side of the top pair – and adding the right-handed Polak, the Leafs opened up room for Rielly and Gardiner to become more prominent members of the defence. Rielly should move from a place on the bottom pair to something more substantial in the top-four. Gardiner, who led the team in even-strength ice-time, might be the one to replace Gunnarsson on the top pair. "Those guys are going to have to take steps forward," Nonis said of the promising duo. "It might be a lot to ask for Morgan a little bit in his second year, but he made some pretty big strides last year and we would expect that hell take some more next [year]. And I think Jake is a good possibility [of doing the same] as well." Left-handed shots, Rielly and Gardiner were both forced to play the right side often last season – nearly the entire season for the rookie – due to the rarity of right-handed defenders on the Toronto defence (Gardiner, specifically, struggled with the change and eventually had to move back to the left). The addition of the 6-foot-1, 227-pound Poolak will ease that glut and allow more options for Carlyle. Xavier Cooper Black Jersey. The Blues, who ranked third in the league defensively a year ago, employed Polak in shutdown capacities as well as on their second-ranked penalty kill. He was known in St. Louis as a fierce, physical competitor willing to play through injury. The 28-year-old, who has two years remaining on a five-year contract ($2.75 million cap hit), led the Blues defence in hits and finished second in blocked shots. "Hes a tough guy to play against," Nonis said of Polak, picked in the sixth round of 2004 Draft. "If you look at the minutes he plays he often plays against teams top players. He is very physical, hes very strong. I think theres a perception that because hes so big hes not mobile, I dont think thats true at all. We think that one of his strengths is his skating ability. Hes going to provide a little bit of edge." The fifth overall pick in 2012, Rielly had a fine first season in Toronto, demonstrating improvement with each passing month. He finished with 27 points in nearly 18 minutes of nightly work, emerging as one of the Leafs top possession players in 73 games. It remains to be seen whether he can climb another rung as a sophomore next season though the organization is certainly hopeful based on all that they saw a year ago. "We are hoping that he improves next year," said Nonis. "He may not. He might go through a year where hes not quite ready to go up the lineup, but were comfortable that hes going to get there and hes going to be an impact player and were going to give him an opportunity to do that." Gardiner, meanwhile, finished a rollercoaster third season on a high. He was easily the teams best defenceman down the stretch of another alarming late season collapse, totaling five goals and 14 points in the final 21 games. "Jakes going to have times where [the media] sitting below me in the press-box will hear me smacking on the wall, but the fact is hes got God-given ability that you just cant teach," Nonis said of the 23-year-old. "I think hes getting the other part of his game under control. The last half of the season the turnovers and some of the mistakes he was making earlier were decreasing … He did come a long way." Nonis expects the Leafs to be active at the outset of free agency on July 1st. He was inclined to add another defenceman to the mix, while stating his acceptance to the status quo if furthers upgrades were unavailable. Gunnarsson had mixed feelings after a five-year stay in Toronto. He received word of the trade shortly after 11 a.m. on Saturday morning and was "kind of shocked". "I didnt expect it," he told TSN.ca, still piecing together the emotions of his first trade in the NHL. "Sucks leaving Toronto…its been great." wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' '

CHICAGO -- Starlin Castro is working hard to overcome the perception that he doesnt care. Nike Roshe Flyknit Herr . After making an error that led to three unearned runs in the first inning, the Chicago Cubs shortstop was determined to atone for the mistake. "I just wanted to try and pick up my teammates," Castro said. "Its my fault that I made an error." Castro went 3 for 4 with three RBIs to offset his miscue and help the Cubs outlast the New York Mets for a 5-4 win in a mistake-filled game that featured a combined 13 pitchers and 15 walks. "Starlin had a couple of nice at-bats making up," Chicago manager Rick Renteria said. "He was really upset that he wasnt able to make the play. He thought he should have made the play." Anthony Rizzo went 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored for the Cubs. Lucas Duda had a two-run double to lead a Mets offence that again failed to get the clutch hit. New York loaded the bases in the fifth and sixth innings without scoring. The Mets have dropped two straight after winning three in a row and are 8-18 in one-run games. Cubs starter Edwin Jackson (4-5) was victimized by his defence and his own lack of command, but managed to get through five innings, giving up five hits and five walks. Just one of the four runs he surrendered was earned. Hector Rondon pitched the ninth for his seventh save in eight chances. Mets starter Daisuke Matsuzaka didnt make it through the fifth, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks in 4 1-3 innings. Reliever Dana Eveland (0-1) gave up a run in 2-3 of an inning to take the loss. "We got off to a good start," New York manager Terry Collins said. "We just havent been able to add on. Weve had opportunities to put games away. We had the bases loaded several times and were getting guys on so its not like were not getting on base. Were just not hitting with guys on base, which has been the tune thus far the way we started the season." The Mets scored three unearned runs in the first inning thanks to Castros error. With two on and two out, Bobby Abreu hit a sharp grounder up the middle. Castro was playing behind second base in the shift, but booted the ball to allow a run to score. Duda then compounded the Cubs woes by doubling to left field to drive in two runs for a 3-0 lead. The Cubs answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs. Castro plated the first with a run-scoring single and the next batter, Nate Schierholtz, drove in the other with a groundout to first. The Mets stretched the lead to 4-2 in the fourth when Ruben Tejada drilled a 2-0 pitch from Jackson six rows into the left-field bleachers. The solo shot was Tejadas second home run in less than a week. He homered Saturday in Philadelphia to snap a streak of 552 homerless at-bats, the longest active streak in the major leagues at the time. The Mets had a chance to tack on runs in the fifth after loading the bases with two out, but Anthony Recker popped out to first base to end the threat. Jackson threw 110 pitches and was happy that he was allowed to finish the fifth. "When the coaches have an opportunity to come pull you out and the bullpen is ready and they leave you out there," he said, "you feel like you kind of owe it to them -- whatever the situation -- to get through it." The Cubs then pushed across three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 5-4 lead. Fittingly, the winning run scored on a wild pitch from reliever Jeurys Familia. The Cubs bullpen then made it hold up as six relievers combined to keep the Mets scoreless in the final four innings. NOTES: After the game, the Mets designated RHP Buddy Carlyle for assignment. OF Andrew Brown arrived in Chicago on Wednesday and will be activated on Thursday. . Renteria was ejected in the third inning by home plate umpire Todd Tichenor for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout. It was Renterias fourth ejection of the season. LIENZ, Austria -- Overcoming several injury-plagued seasons, Marlies Schild of Austria finally set the best mark for most World Cup slalom victories Sunday by winning her 35th race to overtake Switzerlands Vreni Schneider on top of the all-time list. Nike Roshe Run Flyknit Herre . The 32-year-old Schild is a four-time World Cup slalom champion, but she missed a host of races after breaking a leg in 2008 and then tore ligaments last year. That meant she was stuck on 33 slalom wins for close to two years until winning in Courchevel, France, this month. "My 34th win was a weight off my shoulders," Schild said. "Suddenly everything got easier in training though racing is still something different." Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish. Brittany Phelan of Mont-Tremblant, Que., was 11th to lock up a spot for the Sochi Olympics. "As much as it would have been nice to be on the podium Im still happy with fourth," said Gagnon, who has been racing slalom, giant slalom and super-G this year. "By the end of the second run my legs were shot. Im doing all the disciplines and I think its finally catching up to me. "Im going to take a little break and then get back to business." Phelan needed a top-12 result to meet the alpine qualification criteria for Sochi. "It started off shaky and then I got faster and faster down the course," she said. "For the second run I knew I had to clean up the top and I think it went pretty well. I just kind of went for it." Schild got her record-setting win in impressive style. Lying 0.69 seconds behind in sixth after the opening leg, she used a blistering second run to finish in one minute 55.63 seconds and beat American teenager Mikaela Shiffrin, who led the competition after the first run. Shiffrin finished 0.41 behind. Olympic slalom champion Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany was third, 0.63 behind Schild. "It was tough for me," said Schild, who celebrated her fourth career win in a Lienz slalom. "I had not a good feeling in the first run. In the second, my skiing felt really well and I just tried to point my skis down." The victory was Schilds 54th career podium in slalom. She is now tied with fellow Austrian Annemarie Moser-Proell (downhill) for the second most podiums in one discipline. Only another Austrian skier, Renate Goetschl, has more, with 59 top-three finishes in downhill. Shiffrin has never made a secret of her admiration for Schild, making her defeat by the Austrian bearable. "I always want to win but she skied better and was faster," Shiffrin said. "I am OK with taking second place. If she skies better, I am all for it. She is still one of my idols and she keeps inspiring me. As long as I am on the podium with her, I am happy." Shiffrin lost out on the chance to become the youngest winner of five slaloms in one calendar year. At 18 years and 291 days old, the American would have been 67 days younger than Janica Kostelic when the Croatian standout won five slaloms in 2000. However, the missed record didnt bother Shiffrin too much. "I am happy with a podium," Shiffrin said, adding "its a bit disappointing" to lose her first-run lead after failing to find her rhythm in the second. In two years since getting her first podium here in 2011, Shiffrin has 12 top-three finishes including five wins. She looked set for her sixth when she took the lead after the first run. In an increasingly heavy rain, Shiffrin was slowed by a mistake as she almost skied out four gates from the finish but still beat the field by 0.22. "I felt really good and the snow was awesome, so all good," said Shiffrin, who has been dominating slalom racing in 2013, winning the world title and the World Cup discipline title. Shiffrin maintained her lead in this seasons slalom standings with 202 points, two clear of Schild. Hoefl-Riesch went top of the overall standings with 611 points, edging Liechtensteins Tina Weirather by two as well. Many racers struggled with the rainy conditions, with Maria Pietilae-Holmner of Sweden and Kathrin Zettel of Austria, who were second and third respectively after the opening run, failing to finish. Hoefl-Riesch, fourth after the opening run, took full advantage. "Its a nice feeling," the German said. "Of course I benefited from others not finishing but I am just happy to get to the podium." Having won the overall title in 2011, Hoefl-Riesch is again one of the main contenders for this seasons crystal globe, with four-time champion Lindsey Vonn suffering from a knee injury and defending champion Tina Maze struggling to match her outstanding results from last season. The Slovenian finished more than three seconds off the lead in 15th. "The chance to compete for the overall title hasnt been as good for a long time as it is now," said Hoefl-Riesch, who is considering Weirather, Austrias Anna Fenninger en Switzerlands Lara Gut as her main challengers. "Regarding the overall title, its good to earn points here as my rivals dont do slalom." The womens World Cup continues with another slalom next Sunday in Bormio, Italy. Nike Air Huarache Danmark . Kingsbury, from Deux-Montagnes, Que., won gold with a score of 26.93, while Bilodeau, from Montreal, took silver with 26.54. Japans Sho Endo (25.24) placed third. Nike Air Huarache Dame Grøn . The hearing in Regina provincial court is set for June 11 and 12 for defensive back Dwight Anderson, wide receiver Taj Smith and wide receiver Eron Riley.MILWAUKEE -- The biggest momentum swing for the Milwaukee Brewers involved no swing at all. Jonathan Lucroy -- "Mr. Squeeze" to his teammates -- drove in the go-ahead run with a bunt and the Brewers broke away from the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in their NL division series. "Its a free RBI if you execute and I really work hard to get that down," Lucroy said. "A safety squeeze, all youve got to do is get it down to the right area." Ryan Braun hit a two-run homer and fellow slugger Prince Fielder added an RBI single for Milwaukee. But the brawny Brewers excel in other ways, especially Lucroy. "The little things matter," said Jerry Hairston Jr., who scored on Lucroys bunt. "When you have guys like Braunie and Prince with the big power, the little things add up." Indeed. The Brewers now hold a 2-0 lead in a post-season series for the first time in franchise history and will go for the sweep when Shaun Marcum takes on rookie Josh Collmenter in Game 3 in Arizona on Tuesday. Lucroy keyed a five-run sixth inning, and delivered right after Diamondbacks reliever Brad Ziegler became angry about a balk call. Thats when rookie Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke put on a play -- hed already seen Lucroy successfully bunt a few times this season. "Good teams always take advantage of the other teams mistakes," Braun said. "Theres no doubt coming into that inning, they had the momentum." With the score 4-all and runners at the corners with one out, Hairston took a couple of half-steps and sprinted home as Lucroy bunted toward first base. Zieglers awkward flip went wide of catcher Miguel Montero and the Diamondbacks imploded from there, with Milwaukee taking a 9-4 lead. "It was crazy," Montero said. "I didnt even get a chance to second-guess myself. It was like, OK, here we go -- boom, boom, boom, boom. Im like, Whats going on over here?" Brewers starter Zack Greinke struggled in his first post-season appearance, giving up three home runs and leaving without a decision. He was 11-0 at Miller Park, helping the Brewers win a majors-best 57 games at home. The Diamondbacks seemed poised for a come-from-behind victory after notching 48 this season when Paul Goldschmidt, Chris Young and Justin Upton all homered off Greinke to tie the game. Instead, Arizona went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position and Milwaukee kept its cool until the sixth, when seven consecutive batters reached with one out. Hairston, making his second straight start in place of Casey McGehee at third, doubled to chase Diamondbacks starter Daniel Hudson. Ziegler entered, and was called for a balk when he spun and found no one behind Hairston for a pickoff attempt as he attempted to throw. Ziegler pointed down at his foot, upset at second base umpire Bruce Dreckmans call, and walked the free-swinging Yuniesky Betancourt on four pitches. Ziegler said he was "somewhat curious" about what happened because he believed his footwork was proper. "I honestly dont know what he called. I didnt ask him about it," said Ziegler, who didnt want to be ejected for arguing. "I didnt feel like I balked. I felt my (front) foot came down on top of the rubber, so I felt I was clear of my back foot at that point. It didnt matter after that." Roenicke called for the squeeze, and Lucroy laid it down perfectly, just like he had on a suicide attempt on the final play of a 3-2 win against the Giants on May 28. "When (Ziegler) made that off-balance throw he did, I knew it was a tough play to mmake," Lucroy said. Nike Roshe Run Flyknit Dame. "I got it down right." Both Lucroy and Betancourt advanced on Zieglers wild throw, pinch-hitter Mark Kotsay was intentionally walked to load the bases, and the momentum had swung by that point. Corey Hart singled in a run, pumping his right fist down the line, and Nyjer Morgan brought in two more with a single that had him raising his arms in celebration before the play was even over. Brauns RBI single chased Ziegler and gave Milwaukee a 9-4 lead. "They had the momentum after the home run," Hart said. "Jerry was pretty aggressive and Mr. Squeeze always comes through, he always gets the bunt down and then you just try to take advantage. We found three holes right there and never looked back." Greinke made his second consecutive start on three days rest and Braun gave him a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a 438-foot homer, his first ever in the post-season. The Brewers took a 4-1 lead on Fielders run-scoring single and Rickie Weeks RBI triple in the third. But Arizona chipped away. Goldschmidt, the rookie whod played most of the season at Double-A Mobile and was starting in place of Lyle Overbay, homered in the second and Young added a solo shot in the fourth. Uptons tied it in the fifth when he hit a towering drive to the left-field bleachers that had Uptons mom, Yvonne, smiling amid the crowd of 44,066. "Weve been down before," Upton said. "If anybody knows this team, were going to fight until this thing is over with. Its a special team weve got here. If anybody can come back and try and do this thing, its us." Milwaukees bullpen of Takashi Saito, LaTroy Hawkins, Francisco Rodriguez and John Axford of Simcoe, Ont., held tight again after posting a 1.14 ERA over 71 innings in September and all made it interesting. With Greinke gone in the sixth, Saito worked around a man on third by striking out Gerardo Parra to keep it tied. Hawkins walked consecutive batters before getting out of the seventh. Rodriguez, the former Mets closer, walked Goldschmidt and allowed a broken-bat hit to Young to start the eighth, but neither came in to score. Axford walked Aaron Hill and Montero, but struck out Goldschmidt to end it. Hill went 3 for 3 with two walks. He had an apparent double taken away in the first inning by a missed call when left field umpire James Hoye called a ball off the wall foul after it flashed between sunshine and shadows in Miller Park. Replays showed it was fair, and Hill singled on the next pitch and was stranded there, something that happened to 10 times to Arizona baserunners. "When you go on the road, you want to at least take one. If you dont, youve got to go home and defend your own turf," Upton said. "Thats the bottom line. Thats what home-field advantage does for them. They played well at their home place, got two wins, but weve got to do the same thing." NOTES: Braun and Fielder have combined to hit 9 for 16 with two homers and six RBIs in the first two games of the series. ... Robin Yount, the 1982 and 1989 AL MVP for Milwaukee, threw out the first pitch. ... McGehee had been 5 for 5 against Hudson in his career, but finished the season in an overall 3-for-45 slump. ... Collmenter (10-10, 3.3 matched the franchise record for wins by a rookie and joined Brandon Webb (2003) and Micah Owings (2007) as the only rookies in franchise history to reach 100 strikeouts. ... MADRID, Spain -- Luis Aragones, the former Spain coach who shaped the teams rise from perennial underachiever to global powerhouse with a long-awaited title at the 2008 European Championship, has died. Nike Roshe Run Mesh . He was 75. The Spanish football federation announced the death early Saturday, saying Aragones died at a Madrid hospital. He had been battling leukemia. Federation president Angel Maria Villar said Aragones would be remembered as "very special" -- both for his contributions to Spanish football and as a person. "With him we have lived the beginning of an extraordinary phase in football as well as for Spanish society," Villar said. "This has been a painful dawn for our football." Aragones had a successful playing career as a sharpshooting international forward who earned 11 caps for Spain, and then spent the rest of his life as a much-travelled coach. However, he will mostly be remembered for what happened on June 29, 2008, when his team beat Germany 1-0 in Vienna to claim its first major title in 44 years. "Luis Aragones changed the history of Spanish football," Spain captain and goalkeeper Iker Casillas said. "And for that we will always be thankful." The Euro 2008 triumph was the culmination of Aragones four-year reign as Spain coach, having taken over a team that for the last 20 years had earned a reputation for always coming up short in major tournaments. But Aragones instilled a new sense of belief in his players, even after losing to France in the second round of the 2006 World Cup. He also made the team adopt the quick-passing "tiki-taka" style of football made famous by Barcelona, and which his players came close to perfecting at Euro 2008. Led by Barcelona midfielders Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta -- and the goalscoring of David Villa -- Spain went undefeated through the tournament, but needed a penalty shootout against Italy to advance from the quarterfinals. While Aragones stepped down after the tournament, the team went on to win its first World Cup two years later and then added an unprecedented third straight major title at Euro 2012 under his successor Vicente del Bosque. "Without a doubt, our current run of success is a result of his legacy," Del Bosque said on Saturday, after paying his respects to Aragones family. "He had a long history of coaching experience and he had a special appreciation for the game." But Aragones time in charge wasnt without controversy. He made a racist slur about France striker Thierry Henry -- who is black -- during a training session in October, 2004, and followed that remark with an outburst about Englands colonial past. His comments were believed to have prompted ugly racist chants directed at Englands black players during a friendly against Spain in Madrid. The Spanish Football Federation refused to bow to pressure to fire Aragones, although it fined him 3,000 euros, a punishment which many felt was too lenient. Denying he was a racist, Aragones explained that his comment about Henry was an attempt to motivate forward Jose Antonio Reyes, and he received important backing from several black players he had coached previously. In February, 2007, Aragones won a legal appeal against the Spanish Committee for Sporting Disciplines ruling that his behaviour could have fostered "violent, racist or xenophobic acts." Spanish media also often complained about his grouchy demeanour and had regularly called for his dismissal during the two years before the teams triumph. There was another uproar toward the end of 2006 when he dropped the national teams all-time leading scorer and captain, Real Madrids Raul Gonzalez, arguing that he was past his prime. It proved a masterstroke. The team embarked on a 22-game unbeaten run which culminated with the 2008 title, making Aragones the oldest coach to win a European Championship title. Despite the victory, the Spanish federation made no attempt to persuade him to extend his contract and five days later he moved abroad for the first time to take charge of Turkish club Fenerbahce, a couple of weeks before his 70th birthday. "Im leaving because there wasnt more done for me to stay," Aragones said at the time. His playing career began 43 years earlier, when Aragones joined Atletico Madrid. He scored 123 times in 265 games for the team -- the second highest in its history -- and helped the club win three Spanish league titles and two Copa del Reys. It also reached the 1974 European Cup final, where it lost to Bayern Munich in a replay. Aragones, nicknamed "The Sage of Hortaleza" in reference to the Madrid suburb of his birth, was then appointed as Atletico coach and led the team to the 1975 World Club Championship, the 1976 Copa del Rey and the 1977 league title. He coached Atletico on a total of five occasions and he had two spells each at Mallorca and Real Betis. He was also in charge of Barcelona, Espanyol, Sevilla, Valencia and Oviedo in a career total of 757 games, a Spanish league record. Aragones is survived by his wife Pepa, five children and 11 grandchildren. ATLANTA -- Hank Aaron is still the home run king to many. Even baseball commissioner Bud Selig has a difficult time seeing it any other way. Aaron was honoured before the Braves game against the New York Mets on Tuesday night with a ceremony commemorating the 40th anniversary of his 715th home run, the one that pushed him past Babe Ruth and gave him the major league record. Aaron finished with 755 home runs, but was eventually passed on the career list by Barry Bonds, whose career was tarnished by steroids allegations. Bonds has 762 homers, but many baseball fans dont accept that number and stand by Aaron as the true record-holder. Speaking with reporters after the ceremony, Selig was asked about Aaron being called the true home run king. "Im always in a sensitive spot there, but Ive said that myself and Ill just leave it at that," Selig said. During the ceremony Braves chairman Terry McGuirk said Aaron "set the home-run record the old-fashioned way" and added "You will always be the home run king of all time." Retired Braves broadcaster Pete Van Wieren earned a big ovation when he said Aaron is "still recognized as baseballs true home run king." Aaron, 80, was given a standing ovation in the ceremony before the game. Aaron broke Ruths record with his homer on April 8, 1974, off the Dodgers Al Downing. Downing attended the ceremony and threw out the first pitch. Some of Aarons 1974 teammates returned, including Dusty Baker, who was on-deck when the record-breaking homer was hit, Ralph Garr, Phil Niekro, Ron Reed, Marty Perez and Tom House, who caught the homer in the bullpen. Aaron thankedd fans "for all your kindness all these many years. Nike LunarGlide 5. " Aaron, recovering from recent hip-replacement surgery, used a walker. "The game of baseball was a way that I relaxed myself each year that I went on the field for 23 years," Aaron said. "I gave baseball everything that I had, everything, every ounce of my ability to play the game I tried to play to make you the fans appreciate me more. Thank you." Selig, Aarons longtime friend, established the Hank Aaron Award in 1999 to honour the top hitter in each league. He called Aarons 715th homer "the most famous and treasured record in American sports." Selig said Aaron was a worthy successor to Ruth as home-run king "because he is the living embodiment of the American spirit. ... Baseball is forever our national pastime because of people like Henry Aaron." The Braves wore their 1970s era white-and-blue uniforms, complete with small "a" caps, in tribute to Aaron. The Braves are wearing an Aaron 40th anniversary patch on their uniform sleeves this season. The numbers "715" were painted on the outfield grass, stretching from left-centre to right-centre. The Braves unveiled Aaron jerseys from other college and professional teams in the Atlanta area.
