SAN DIEGO -- Eric Stults is all too familiar with low-scoring games. Radamel Falcao Jersey . Winning one was the surprising part. Stults pitched effectively into the seventh inning and the San Diego Padres won their fifth straight overall by beating the Colorado Rockies 1-0 Monday night. For the 12th time this season, the Padres scored no more than one run when Stults started. This was the first time he cashed it in for a victory. "It was nice to get that early run and to go out there and try to make it stand up," Stults said. Stults (8-17), tied with Philadelphia right-hander A.J. Burnett for the major league lead in losses, scattered seven hits and a walk over 6 1-3 innings in beating the Rockies for the first time this season following two defeats. Kevin Quackenbush worked the ninth for his sixth save, ending Colorados season-high, six-game winning streak. San Diego went ahead in the first inning when Rene Riveras double scored Jedd Gyorko, who walked. It was Riveras fifth RBI and third double in four games. Rockies starter Tyler Matzek (6-11) struck out eight in six innings. He allowed one run, four hits and three walks. "He can do a variety of things," Colorado manager Walt Weiss said. "Hes got some weapons." To open the eighth, Padres left fielder Tommy Medica misplayed Justin Morneaus fly ball into a double, and Dale Thayer relieved Frank Garces. Thayer got Michael Cuddyer and Corey Dickerson to pop up and retired Michael McKenry on a fly to centre. "That was impressive, as his high fastball beat some of their bats," Padres manager Bud Black said. "They couldnt get on top of the high heater." After DJ LeMahieus one-out single in the seventh chased Stults, he was replaced by Nick Vincent. Pinch-hitter Drew Stubbs struck out and, after Charlie Blackmon singled, Vincent retired Josh Rutledge on a fly to right. "The bullpen did a good job like it has all year," Stults said. The Padres could have extended their 1-0 lead in the sixth when they loaded the bases with one out on Riveras second hit and walks to Gyorko and Yasmani Grandal. Matzek, however, struck out Medica and Rymer Liriano. The Rockies had an opportunity in the fifth inning when Blackmon walked with two outs to load the bases, following singles by Rafael Ynoa and LeMahieu. Stults struck out Rutledge on one his quickest fastballs, at 90 mph, to retire the side. Stults wiggled out of trouble in the second after giving up one-out singles to Dickerson and McKenry. Ynoa popped up and LeMahieu struck out. The Padres are 32-19 in one-run games, the best record in the majors. "Hes pitched a lot of games like this and didnt get the win," Black said of Stults. "He got it today." TRAINERS ROOM Padres: RHP Tyson Ross, bothered by a sore right forearm, wont pitch again this year. His last start came at Arizona on Sept. 13 when he gave up six runs (four earned) and five hits in three innings. UP NEXT Rockies LHP Jorge De La Rosa (14-11, 4.61 ERA) will tie a career high Tuesday when he makes his 32nd start of the season, his second straight year with at least 30. Hell face Padres LHP Robbie Erlin (4-4, 4.53), who is looking for his second consecutive win as he makes his second start since May 17 at Colorado. HOME SWEET HOME With the win, the Padres tied their best showing at Petco Park with 47 victories. That matches the standard set by the 2007 club. The Padres will end their home schedule on Wednesday, after two more games with the Rockies. NOT SO SWEET 16 It marked the 16th time in franchise history that the Rockies lost a 1-0 game, and the first since July 13 last season when the Dodgers beat them in Los Angeles. Of those 1-0 defeats, 13 have come on the road. Michy Batshuayi Jersey . "If we could score a six in every game, obviously I would be pretty excited," Jones said. "Its a long week but a short week. Its a pretty short round robin from what were used to so you dont want to get behind the eight ball early. Juan Cuadrado Jersey . -- Dee Ford prefers to keep things simple: Play hard and fast, and let others worry about his NFL draft stock. http://www.chelseasoccerjerseysonline.com/womens-willy-caballero-chelsea-jersey/ . Sure, Josh Browns 45-yard field goal on the third drive of overtime lifted the New York Giants to a 23-20 win over Detroit on Sunday. But the Lions (7- dropped themselves out of the NFC North race by losing five of their last six games, blowing fourth-quarter leads in each setback. CINCINNATI, Ohio -- With two swings, Scott Van Slyke went from backup outfielder to star of the game. Van Slyke drove in a career-high four runs with two homers off struggling left-hander Tony Cingrani, and the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled away to a 6-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night, a rare comfortable win in their pitching-dominated series. Van Slyke hit a solo homer and a three-run shot off Cingrani (2-7), who could lose his spot in the rotation when Mat Latos returns from the disabled list later this week. Cingrani gave up a career-high six runs in 4 2-3 innings of his fifth straight loss. The Dodgers like Van Slyke for his versatility. He has started four games in centre, 11 in left and three at first base. The problem is that theres no room for him to have a regular spot. "I know what Im here for, so I dont mind it," Van Slyke said. "Im not going to complain." Nor will the Dodgers. "Hes been good for us all year," manager Don Mattingly said. "This guys just kind of slowly showing his value over time. Hes a guy that sneaks up on you. Plays all three outfield spots really well. "I think hes a guy that you could expand his role. Obviously thats not here right now." Dan Haren (6-4) gave up five hits in 5 1-3 innings, including Ryan Ludwicks solo homer, for his first win since May 12. Brandon League escaped a bases-loaded, no-outs threat in the eighth by getting Ludwick to hit a comebacker that led to a home-to-first double play. Haren opened the season 4-0 and has been trying to get back into form the past month. "I started the year throwing the ball very well," Haren said. "Ive just really been mediocre here for a while. Today the bullpen picked me up." The Dodgers have gone 3-1 at the start of their seven-game trip to Colorado and Cincinnati despite hip injuries to right fielder Yasiel Puig and second baseman Dee Gordon. Puig was back in the lineup on Monday and had a single and a walk. Gordon pinch hit in the ninth and beat out an infield single. The Dodgers andd Reds have played a lot of close games the last two seasons. Dujon Sterling Jersey. Six of their last seven had been decided by one run, with Cincinnati holding a 4-3 advantage in those games. Van Slyke made this a comfortable win for the Dodgers, getting a career-high three hits. In addition to the homers, he singled and walked twice, reaching base in all five plate appearances. Van Slyke came into the game with four homers and seven RBIs. He led off the second inning with a homer and ended Cingranis outing with a three-run shot in the fifth that made it 6-2. It was his second career two-homer game. Cingrani has struggled since he returned from an inflamed shoulder that landed him on the disabled list. Hes 0-5 in those five starts with a 6.26 ERA and nine homers allowed. The left-hander gave up seven hits -- matching his career high -- and three walks on Monday. The Reds fell to 3-4 on their 10-game homestand, leaving them fourth in the NL Central. Haren had one rough inning, helping the Reds tie it 1-all in the second. Brayan Pena snapped a career-worst 0-for-17 slump with a single, and Zack Cozart singled. The runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Pena scored when Haren bounced a pitch to Cingrani with two outs. NOTES: Josh Beckett (3-3) makes his first appearance against the Reds since 2008 on Tuesday. The Reds start Mike Leake (3-5), who has been limited by a sore neck and is coming off his shortest appearance of the season. ... OF Andre Ethier was out of the Dodgers lineup getting a planned day of rest. ... Van Slyke hit two homers against Atlanta on May 17, 2013. ... Two ducks landed in centre and stayed there for an inning. Van Slyke threw sunflower seeds to them. ... Ludwick is 7 for 12 career against Haren with three homers. ... Latos made his final rehab start for Triple-A Louisville on Monday night and threw 81 pitches before a rain delay. The right-hander has been sidelined all season while recovering from torn knee cartilage and a strained pitching forearm. Alfredo Simon, his replacement in the rotation, leads the team in wins with an 8-3 record.
