OAKLAND, Calif. http://www.socceritalyonline.com/Mattia-De-Sciglio-UEFA-EURO-Italy-Jersey/ . -- With the Texas rotation ravaged by injuries early in the season, Martin Perez has more than filled the void. Perez pitched his second consecutive shutout to extend his scoreless innings streak to 26 and the Texas Rangers wrapped up a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics with a 3-0 victory Wednesday. "Hes been the glue," manager Ron Washington said. "Hes held it together. Hes the one guy in that rotation whos been in it from last year who hasnt had a blip yet." The Rangers have been without Yu Darvish, Matt Harrison and Colby Lewis already at times this season but still find themselves in first place thanks to some strong play from fill-ins and major improvement from Perez. Perez (4-0) outpitched Sonny Gray (3-1) in a heralded matchup of emerging stars, allowing just three hits and two walks in his first start since throwing a three-hitter against the White Sox for his first career shutout. "I dont want to think too much about my ERA and the games that Ive thrown before," Perez said. "Im going to focus on my game today. We had a great game." Perez, who also threw eight scoreless innings against Houston on April 13, is the first Rangers pitcher to have three straight scoreless starts since Kenny Rogers had four straight over 30 innings in 2005. Perez also joined Charlie Hough in 1983 as the only Texas pitchers to have three straight starts of at least eight scoreless innings. "He knows how to pitch," Washington said. "He has weapons and he can throw them all for strikes and he has poise. He does a great job of staying with the game plan and thats something that hes learned from last year, how to study, how to go out there and just execute his pitches." Donnie Murphy homered and Michael Choice scored one run and drove in another for the Rangers, who moved a half-game ahead of Oakland in the AL West with their first sweep of the As since August 2011. The As never even threatened Perez on their way to getting swept at home for the first time since September 2012 against the Angels, ending a streak of 32 straight home series with at least one win. "Youre going to have your little lumps in the road," As third baseman Josh Donaldson said. "Everybody knows that here. We just have to come back." Oakland got leadoff singles from Jed Lowrie in the fourth and Derek Norris in the fifth for its first two hits off Perez. But Perez followed each of those hits by getting the next batter to hit into a double play, giving him a major league-leading 11 groundball double plays. Donaldson doubled with one out in the seventh, but was stranded there when Alberto Callaspo grounded out with runners on first and second to end the inning. "He keeps the ball off the barrel of the bat," As manager Bob Melvin said. "Hes pitched really well this year. The reason he can get deep in games is hes not striking a lot of guys out, hes just keeping it off the barrel of the bat." Gray allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings to end a six-game winning streak in the regular season dating to last September. He fell behind when Choice led the game off with a walk and scored on Alex Rios triple. The Rangers were poised for a possible big inning when Rios was originally ruled safe at home on a grounder Lowrie at shortstop. But Melvin challenged the call and Rios was ruled out on instant replay. Choice, traded from Oakland to Texas in the off-season, added an RBI single in the fifth and Murphy hit his first homer of the season in the sixth to make it 3-0. UEFA will announce the first sanctions in early-May, and more serious cases will be judged in June. http://www.socceritalyonline.com/Giacomo-Bonaventura-UEFA-EURO-Italy-Jersey/ . Beginning this season, teams will be permitted to challenge an on-field call once during each half of the game, for a maximum total of two challenges.East Lansing, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The 12th-ranked Maryland Terrapins play their first-ever Big Ten Conference game on Tuesday, as they challenge the Michigan State Spartans at the Breslin Center. Maryland is off to a tremendous start, the team winning 12 of its first 13 games, including the last five in a row. The Terrapins lone setback of the campaign came in a 76-65 final at home to now third-ranked Virginia. UM recently beat another team from the state of Michigan as it topped visiting Oakland this past Saturday, 72-56. This is only the second true road game of the season for the Terps, who won at Oklahoma State on Dec. 21, 73-64. Michigan State is 9-4 heading into its Big Ten Conference opener, with its losses coming against Duke (81-71), Kansas (61-56), Notre Dame (79-78 OT) and shockingly, Texas Southern (71-64 OT). Coach Tom Izzos club bounced back from the embarrassing home loss to the then one-win Tigers by hammering The Citadel on Dec. 22, 82-56, to run its record in East Lansing this season to 6-1. Michigan State has posted a 45-19 mark in Big Ten home openers, and Izzo is 17-2 in such events, including wins in each of the last 12. Michigan State leads the all-time series with Maryland, 3-2, and that includes a win over the Terps in the second round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. As it has done all season long, Maryland handled its business at both ends of the court in the recent win over Oakland, the team shooting 50 percent from the floor while allowing only 38.3 percent success to the Golden Grizzlies. Melo Trimble led the Terps with 17 points, as he drained five of the teams eight 3-pointers in the game. Jake Layman logged a double-double consisting of 15 points and a career-best 12 rebounds, and Dez Wells tallied 10 points off the bench for a UM squad that came away with a 14-4 edge in points at the foul line, despite being narrowly outrebounded, 35-32. Marylands reserves outscored those of Oakland by a 27-13 margin. Claudio Marchisio Italy Jersey. Trimble (15.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Layman (15.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg) and Wells (15.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg) spearhead Marylands offensive attack, which produces 74.8 ppg behind typical shooting outputs of .476 overall, .378 from beyond the arc and .745 from the free-throw line. Defensively, the Terrapins are permitting just 61.2 ppg, with foes connecting on only 37.5 percent of their total shots, which includes a low 29.2 percent showing from distance. Factor in a +4.6 rebounding differential and its not difficult to see why coach Mark Turgeons team is off to such an impressive start. Michigan State responded to the loss to Texas Southern by running The Citadel out of the Breslin Center last week. The Spartans knocked down a blistering 60.4 percent of their field goal attempts, despite missing the mark on seven of their 11 3-point tries. They goaded the opposition into 15 turnovers and allowed them to come up with only 19 total rebounds. A massive 44-16 advantage in points in the paint helped matters, as did a 30-3 edge in fast break points and a 28-11 advantage in bench points. Denzel Valentine paced MSU with 18 points, and he grabbed six rebounds and handed out six assists for good measure. Three others scored in double figures as well, and Travis Trice was credited with 11 of the teams 23 helpers. Valentine leads the Spartans in scoring at 14.5 ppg, and he is ranked 10th nationally in 3-point FG pct. (.500, 35-of-70). Trice (12.9 ppg, 5.9 apg), Branden Dawson (10.8 ppg, 8.5 rpg) and Bryn Forbes (10.2 ppg) round out the double-digit scorers for Michigan State, which puts up 75 ppg in hitting 49.3 percent of its total shots, which includes a 42 percent effort from 3-point land. Conversely, foes are netting only 60.2 ppg, with their shooting performance resulting in only 37.8 percent overall success, and a mere 28.8 percent from downtown.
