LOS ANGELES, Calif. Yeezy Boost 350 Black . - With three straight losses hanging over his head and chatter that he should be shut down for the season, Patrick Corbin tuned it all out. The left-hander allowed one run in 6 1-3 innings and got balanced offensive support in the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night. The victory moved the D-backs above .500 at 73-72, and gave them an 8-7 lead in the season series with Los Angeles, which will play at Arizona next week. Paul Goldschmidt went 4 for 5, tying his career high for hits, and drove in a pair of runs as the D-backs snapped a five-game skid against the Dodgers and avoided a series sweep. Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis said Goldschmidt would be his favourite to win NL MVP honours. "He carried that team when they fought through injuries and didnt really have a presence in the middle of the lineup," Ellis said. "To do what hes done from an RBI standpoint and a home run standpoint, and with the other things he does — great defence, great base runner — hes one of the more underrated complete players in all of baseball." Goldschmidt had his second four-hit game and ninth multi-hit effort against the Dodgers this season, raising his average to .379 with three doubles, four homers and 16 RBI in 15 games. Corbin (14-6) improved to 2-0 in three starts at Dodger Stadium. He allowed one run and eight hits in 6 1-3 innings, striking out two and walking two. "I wanted to push him as far as I could. Its good for his development," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "Has he thrown better games? Yes, but he has a way to hanging in there." In Corbins last four starts against Los Angeles dating to Aug. 1, 2012, he is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA. "I got out of a lot of jams. Its not a good way to pitch," he said. "I feel fresh. I just want to finish the season strong." Brad Ziegler pitched the ninth to earn his 10th save in 12 chances. Hyun-Jin Ryu (13-6) gave up three runs and 10 hits — his second-most this season — while striking out one and walking none in his first start since Aug. 30. The left-hander missed his scheduled start last Friday because of a stiff back. "He got off to a little bit of a shaky start and they didnt miss any of the mistakes he threw the first couple of innings and were able to capitalize on that," Ellis said. "But then he settled down and did what we ask all of our pitchers to do, keep us in the game and give us a chance to win." Willie Bloomquist was 3 for 5 with a run scored for Arizona. A.J. Pollock and Tuffy Gosewisch both were 2 for 4 with a run scored. Arizona took a 2-0 lead in the first on Goldschmidts RBI single, the third in a row given up by Ryu to open the game, and Martin Prados double-play groundout. Gosewischs RBI double in the second made it 3-0. Goldschmidts RBI single off Brian Wilson in the seventh scored Gosewisch, who doubled off Brandon League, extending Arizonas lead to 4-0. "We got a deep lineup," Goldschmidt said. "A lot of guys contribute. Thats what its going to take for us to win." Los Angeles got its only run on Yasiel Puigs 16th homer, a towering shot into the Dodgers bullpen in left, in the seventh. Notes: The Dodgers turned four double plays. ... The Dodgers selected the contract of LHP Onelki Garcia from Triple-A Albuquerque and transferred RHP Shawn Tolleson to the 60-day DL. Garcia, who made his major league debut in the ninth, is expected to provide extra protection in the bullpen for leftys Paco Rodriguez and J.P. Howell. ... Corbin needs one start for 30 and three innings to reach 200, which would make him the youngest D-backs lefty in club history to do so. ... The 12th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks was marked by a moment of silence, a helicopter flyover and first responders lined up on the first and third base lines during pre-game ceremonies. Puma By Rihanna Velvet . Tortorella told The Vancouver Province hell be cheering for Team Sweden to win gold when they take on the defending Olympic champions on Sunday morning. "I was asked, do I need to talk with Donald, and I passed, quite honestly," Rivers said Monday. "I dont think right now is the time or the place, for me, at least. I just took a pass." Sterling is purported to have told a woman not to bring black people to his games or associate with them. "Yeah, I believe he said those things. But I still want to make sure," Rivers said during a conference call. "As far as believing those things? I heard what he said. Until someone tells me differently, you usually listen to what people say. I havent given him his due process. I havent given him an opportunity to explain himself and quite honestly right now I dont want him to. I want to wait for that further judgment." The coach cancelled practice Monday, a day after a 118-97 loss to the Golden State Warriors that evened their playoff series at 2-2. "I just felt like they needed to breathe. Theyve been inundated with this," Rivers said. Still, he said pretty much the entire team was at the clubs practice facility. "Ill go down and say hi to them and talk to them, make sure theyre in the right place. Right now its more than basketball. This is a non-basketball decision that I thought I had to make and I thought it was right decision. If you get your life better, then you can probably do your work better. They need to do that." Game 5 is Tuesday night in Los Angeles. "These last 48 hours or so have been really hard for our players and everyone," Rivers said. "Id just like to reiterate how disappointed I am in the comments attributed to our owner. I cant tell you how upset I am, our players are." Warriors coach Mark Jackson suggested that Clippers fans should boycott the game. "I believe iif it was me, I wouldnt come to the game," Jackson said. Puma Creepers Dk. "I believe the fans, the loudest statement that they can make as fans is to not show up to the game. ... To me, it will make the noise of it not being tolerated. That this is a different time. Its unfortunate, and we cannot allow someone with these feelings to profit." Rivers said he knew Jackson was speaking from his heart and that everyone has their opinion. "I dont share that. I hope its packed and people are cheering for us, the players. And they were cheering for the players before this happened. But if they feel differently, who can say theyre wrong? And Im not the one thats going to say that, I can tell you that." Rivers said its still to be determined whether he or a player will address the crowd. "Again, we dont know the right answer," Rivers said. "We want to do right here. We want to make the best decisions here. If we feel thats something will help our fans, then it will be done. If we feel its something they dont need, we wont do it. The tickets have already been sold. The fans, theyre in a dilemma as well. We want them to cheer for their players and their team. Because its still their players and their team, and it will be their players and their team. I think from what I get from the fans Ive heard from, thats how they feel, like, This is my team, these are my players Im cheering for, and thats not going to change. I hope that continues." Rivers said the controversy has been tough on his players. "What other players are going through Should I be playing thoughts in the middle of a playoff series? I sympathize for my players. They didnt sign on for this. Yet here they are and theyre in the middle of it and they have to deal with it. They didnt do anything wrong and theyre in the middle of it, and they didnt ask to be. I feel terrible for them. Im going to try to do whatever I can to make them OK."
