MILWAUKEE -- Forget about his prodigious speed -- Billy Hamilton won a game with his bat Friday night. Authentic Jae Crowder Celtics Jersey . No need to worry about running out a hit with the way Cincinnatis leadoff man lined his single to right in the ninth off a fastball from stalwart reliever Francisco Rodriguez. Hamiltons hit allowed Zack Cozart to score from second, and Aroldis Chapman shut down the Milwaukee Brewers in the bottom of the ninth to give the Reds a 6-5 win. "Somehow my hands were quicker than I thought they would (be) getting on top of the fastball and it was in," Hamilton said. "It was just a big win for us." Made it easy to forget how the Reds blew a four-run lead in the seventh. Hamilton added his 25th steal of the season in the ninth for good measure. Hes second in the National League in steals behind Dee Gordon of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was left stranded at third, but his only hit of the night off Rodriguez (2-2) was much more important. The Reds feel like they are building momentum after taking two straight from Los Angeles. "That was a big comeback win. Its something that we really havent done much of this year," said starter Homer Bailey, who gave up four runs and six hits in 6 1-3 innings. "So I think once you start picking up those kinds of wins, and coming back, it becomes contagious." Jonathan Broxton (2-0) tossed a scoreless eighth before Chapman struck out two in the ninth for his 11th save. Hamiltons hit spoiled a special night for Milwaukee, which unveiled its Wall of Honor before the game. Hall of Famer Hank Aaron and baseball Commissioner Bud Selig were among dignitaries at Miller Park. The Brewers rallied with four runs in the seventh to tie it at 5 on Carlos Gomezs RBI double. But earlier mistakes ultimately caught up to Milwaukee, which tied a season-high with four errors. Starter Matt Garza had two errors alone on errant throws. The second came after Garza fielded a bunt by Bailey before his hard throw sailed wide of first and into the stands. The right-hander put his hands on his hips in frustration, but the trouble was just starting to brew. "It hurt him today," manager Ron Roenicke said. "Too bad because he had really good stuff today." Bailey later scored on Joey Vottos single. Votto came around for a four-run lead after Jay Bruces double wasnt fielded cleanly by Khris Davis, who was charged with an error. Garza went seven innings and allowed seven hits and five runs, including one earned. But the errors still irritated him after the game. "The guys battled back and we lost it late, but we should have never been in that spot," Garza said. "My stuff was too good tonight to do something dumb like that." Davis, a young left fielder, atoned for his miscue with his shot in the seventh off the black Caterpillar ad affixed to the second deck above right field. Came on a night, too, when he posed for a picture with the iconic Aaron, who finished his stellar 23-year career in 1976 as a designated hitter for the Brewers in old County Stadium. Bailey had looked well on his way to winning a fifth straight decision after allowing just one run and three hits through six innings. He even wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the fourth by getting Irving Falu to pop out. No such luck in the seventh. After Davis homer, Bailey allowed two singles before Sam LeCure took over on the mound. After Scooter Gennetts RBI single, Jonathan Lucroy drove in another run on his 28th birthday by beating out a hard chopper to third before Gomez hit his double. NOTES: RHP Mat Latos will make his season debut Saturday for Cincinnati. Latos will be activated after spending the first two months of the season recovering from surgeries on his right elbow and left knee. Latos will bump Tony Cingrani (2-7) from the rotation, and manager Bryan Price said he wasnt sure yet whether the left-hander would be demoted to Triple-A Louisville or sent to the bullpen. ... Milwaukee plans to activate LHP Tom Gorzelanny before Saturdays game. The reliever began the season on the DL following off-season shoulder surgery. ... RHP Yovani Gallardo (4-4) will start Saturday for the Brewers. Authentic Dennis Johnson Celtics Jersey . Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Kerry, In the first period of Saturdays Montreal-Ottawa game, Brendan Gallagher is called for goaltender interference. Craig Anderson is outside the blue paint trying to make the save. When is it legal to make contact with the goalie without a penalty? It seems they can leave the crease, wander around, check a player but touch the goalie and a penalty is called! If his domain is the blue ice then stay in there and if you come out be prepared to bite the bullet! Bill George --- I have a short question regarding a rule in international hockey. At this years WJHC, I noticed numerous times that play was whistled down when a player from one team entered the crease of the opposing teams goalie. Yet other times when a goal was scored by a player who had also clearly been in the crease. Why is the play not blown dead then or the goal taken back like the days of old in the NHL? Or is this a rule as entertaining or confusing as the shoulder vs. crossbar high stick call? Thank you for your time,Jason Hoef Bill: In watching the play closely we see that Craig Anderson was actually set to play a shot (butterfly position) at the top of his goal crease with both skates and pads visible inside the blue paint. Montreals gritty little pest, Brendan Gallagher attempted to set a legal screen tight to the top Andersons crease and while facing the shooter. In doing so, Gallagher reached back with his left glove (top of stick hand) which contacted Anderson in the facemask and knocked the Sens goalie off of his set position. Due to the fact that Gallagher reached back with his hand and stick resulting in contact with Craig Anderson inside his goal crease, the referee deemed it to be more deliberate than incidental and assessed the appropriate penalty for goalkeeper interference. The overriding rationale and language of rule 69 (Interference on the Goalkeeper) is that a goalkeeper should have the ability to move freely within his goal crease without being hindered by the actions of an attacking player. In all cases in which an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, whether or not the goalkeeper is insidde or outside the goal crease and whether or not a goal is scored, the attacking player will receive a penalty. Authentic Red Auerbach Celtics Jersey. . Lets take the scenario where the goalie is setup outside of his goal crease to cut down the angle and for the purpose of challenging the shooter, Rule 69.4 applies: If an attacking player initiates any contact with a goalkeeper, other than incidental contact, while the goalkeeper is outside his goal crease, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed. A goalkeeper is not "fair game" just because he is outside the goal crease. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an attacking player makes unnecessary contact with the goalkeeper. However, incidental contact will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such unnecessary contact. The ambiguity contained in the language of this rule beginning with the word "However…" places huge responsibility and pressure on the referee to ascertain incidental contact and if the attacking player made a "reasonable" effort to avoid such contact! Most often the benefit will (and should) go to the goalkeeper that is set to defend the incoming shot. When a goalkeepers motion/movement outside of his crease and prior to establishing a full set, results in contact with an attacking player and a goal results it should be deemed a good goal. The harsh truth, Bill, is that goalkeepers are provided special protection due to the unique nature of their position as provided and defined by the rules committee. Jason: The IIHF rule book states: Rule 534 - Interference - If an attacking player deliberately stands in the goal crease, without interfering with the goalkeeper, the referee shall stop the play and the ensuing face-off shall take place at the nearest face-off spot in the neutral zone. As you alluded to, Jason, once the puck enters the goal crease attacking players are allowed to enter the crease and legally play the puck. Rules then apply to the legal scoring of a goal.
