MIAMI -- It was arguably the signature moment of Alonzo Mournings career. Nike Roshe One Flyknit Womens . He blocked a shot in the final minutes of Game 6 of the 2006 NBA Finals, then wriggled on the floor in what appeared to be celebration for a few seconds. Turns out, it was anger. Mourning was unimpressed by his chase-down block of Dallas Jason Terry with 8:55 left in the game where the Miami Heat would clinch their first NBA title. Instead, his memorable air-punching, arms-flailing reaction was borne from how Heat teammate Gary Payton had thrown the ball away seconds earlier and then argued with a referee at such a critical moment in the game. His fire was on full display in that moment. And it was that fire that led him to the Basketball Hall of Fame "So I had to sprint back to try to cover his butt for making that mistake, and I was mad," Mourning said. "Then I got up and I was like, Gary, what are you doing, man? Oh, I was mad. Maybe like two people really know why I was acting that way. The thing is, I was cursing Gary out. Thats what happened." After a career where he averaged 17.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots, the 6-foot-10 Mourning will be part of the class enshrined in Springfield, Massachusetts on Friday night, when the surest bet in sports will be that his speech will exceed the 10-minute recommendation he was given for his remarks. "I think I deserve it," Mourning said, laughing. Few would disagree. He was a seven-time All-Star, is one of only eight players to win the defensive player of the year award at least twice, an Olympic gold medallist and has already had his No. 33 jersey retired by the Heat in a star-studded ceremony that went way longer than planned, slightly raising the ire of an Orlando Magic team that wasnt planning on a never-ending halftime that night in 2009. "He had to be the first one to have his jersey retired by this franchise," Heat President Pat Riley said. "He earned that, many times over." But Mournings story is more about the journey than any statistic or award. He was raised by a foster mother who took him and 48 other kids into her home. From there, Mourning became a star at Georgetown, then an NBA icon who couldnt even be derailed by a kidney disease that necessitated a transplant while still in the prime of his career, and finally a champion with the Heat. "You dont think about going to the Hall of Fame. Its your reward," Mourning said. "This was the last thing on my mind. I had an amazing career. The journey was spectacular for me, personally. If no one else saw it that way, then so be it." Mourning, 44, will be presented by John Thompson, his coach at Georgetown, and Riley, his coach with the Heat. Thompson and Riley are two of the people who Mourning credits most for making him what he is. The other is Fannie Threet, the foster mother who died last year at the age of 98 and the person who Mourning speaks with more reverence for than anyone else. Thompson, Riley and the woman he still calls "Miss Threet" might seem like three wildly different people, but Mourning sees parallels in them all -- mainly discipline, devotion and a balance between toughness and compassion. Add them up, you get Mourning, who plans to spend his speech thanking just about everyone he can remember. "Its the pinnacle of the sport," Mourning said. "And outside of the birth of my children and winning a championship, its the pinnacle of it all." Nike Roshe Run Dyn Fw . Zimmermann became the National Leagues first 16-game winner, pitching seven solid innings to lead the Washington Nationals past the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 Wednesday night. Nike Roshe One NM BR . The San Antonio Spurs handled the conditions, and the team, and it sure helped when a suffering LeBron James couldnt make it to the finish. http://www.cheapnikeroshenz.org/nike-roshe-one-nz/nike-roshe-one-flyknit-nz.html . Granada goalkeeper Roberto Fernandez saved Morenos first two headers from corner kicks taken by Sergio Garcia, but the defender beat him on his third try after Garcia found Moreno unmarked at the near post in the 78th minute.RIDGEDALE, Mo. -- Jay Haas and Peter Jacobsen took the second-round lead Saturday in the Champions Tours Legends of Golf, teaming for a 6-under 48 in windy conditions on the par-3 Top of the Rock course. Haas and Jacobsen played nine holes of alternate shot and nine of better ball at Top of the Rock, the first par-3 course used in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, after opening with a better-ball 62 on Friday on the regulation Buffalo Ridge layout. They had a 15-under 110 total. "Weve known each other since college days," Haas said. "And if you know Peter, youre a friend of Peters. Weve played on Ryder Cup teams before and just know each other. Our wives know each other." They were 1 under in the alternate-shot nine. "We talked about it walking down the first hole, the morning format, the alternate shot," Jacobsen said. "I turned to Jay and said, Im nervous. I havent been this nervous in a long time. It takes us back to Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup days when the alternate shot is the most difficult. You feel like youre on an island. Youre playing for yourself and also youre playing for your partner, so you dont want to leave your partner in a bad position." Jeff Sluman and Fred Funk were second after a 50 on the par-3 course, the site of the final round Sunday. "I think both of us not only embrace the golf course and the concept of a par 3, but we embrace the format change from last year," said Sluman, the winner last year with Brad Faxon in Savannah, Georgia. "ts fun, its exciting, its vibrant and were jazzed to be here." In Legends Division for players 65 and older, the teams of Jim Colbert-Jim Thorpe and Bruce Fleeisher-Larry Nelson shared the lead at 7-under 118. Nike Roshe One Flyknit White. Colbert and Thorpe had a 2-under 52 on the par-3 course, and Fleisher and Nelson shot 56. "It was very difficult starting out where you had alternate shots," Fleisher said. "I thought it would have been a lot easier the other way around if we got a little bit of feel of the golf course. Larrys a great partner, Im kind of trying to tag along this week." Craig Stadler and Kirk Triplett were third in the Champions Division, shooting a 64 at Buffalo Ridge. The teams of Tom Watson-Andy North and Tom Pernice Jr.-Bob Tway were tied for fourth at 11 under after rounds on the regulation course. Watson and North had a 65, and Pernice and Tway shot 64. "Who knows what the weathers going to be tomorrow," North said. "Were fortunate to get done today, but man, the wind blew. Some of those holes played so hard. When youre hitting woods into these par 3s, theyre pretty difficult. Its going to be fun to get over there." Pernice won the Principal Charity Classic last week in Iowa for his third senior title. In the Legends Division, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player had a 66 at Buffalo Ridge to move into a tie for third with Butch Baird and Al Geiberger at 4 under. Baird and Geiberger had a 54 on the par-3 course. "Id say Gary played very well," Nicklaus said. "I was all right the front nine. It was all Gary the back nine, thank goodness, because I wasnt very good. Ill have to say that Gary made some putts when he needed to make some putts and I couldnt make the putts when I needed to make the putts. But we ham and egged it reasonably well throughout the round." Wholesale NFL Jerseys ' ' '
