TORONTO -- Carter Ashton hasnt scored in 30 NHL games this season, but he knows how to put the puck in the back of the net in the American Hockey League. Ashton scored a hat trick -- giving him 13 goals in 16 AHL games this season -- to power the Toronto Marlies to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Lake Erie Monsters in AHL action on Sunday. "He took the game over," said Marlies coach Steve Spott. "You see what he can do at this level. "Hes going to have to find that same confidence and swagger when he plays for the (NHL parent) Maple Leafs. Here in the AHL, he does a nice job, he maintains possession of the puck, he uses his body, uses his speed, and it becomes a weapon for him. He just needs to find the confidence to do that at the next level." Ashton broke a 2-2 tie -- and completed his hat trick -- during a goal-mouth scramble when he deposited a rebound into the net past Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard at 6:16 of the third period. Defenceman T.J. Brennan, with his team-leading 21st of the season, gave the Marlies a two-goal cushion 45 seconds later when his point shot trickled through Pickards legs. Brandon Kozun closed out the scoring with an empty-netter at 17:51. "Its definitely a process, so to come back down and get these games and some good ice time, thats good for me," Ashton said. "And we finished off our homestand with a win, so thats great." Toronto went 7-3-0 on its 10-game homestand and improved to 33-18-4 on the season, good for first place in the North Division. Ashtons linemates, Spencer Abbott and Greg McKegg, collected two assists apiece in front of 4,351 fans at Ricoh Coliseum. Joey Hishon and Mike Sgarbossa replied for the Monsters, who dropped their second game in a row to fall to 23-26-6. "Give Lake Erie credit, they found a way to get back into it after a two-goal deficit," said Spott, who watched the Monsters strike twice in the latter stages of the second period after Toronto had staked a 2-0 lead. "We knew we were at home, playing the last period of a 10-game homestand, and we wanted to take advantage of it. I give our guys a lot of credit for the way they played the final 20 minutes." Marlies goalie Drew MacIntyre was sharp making 26 saves, while Pickard stopped 18 of 22 shots. Toronto led 1-0 after the first period and the score was tied 2-2 through 40 minutes. The Marlies opened the scoring 53 seconds into the first period when Ashton took a pass from Spencer Abbott in the slot, cut to the left and whipped a wrist shot past Pickards blocker. The Monsters had some chances of their own in the opening frame -- including a two-minute 5-on-3 power play and a breakaway by right winger Guillaume Desbiens -- but they couldnt beat MacIntyre. Ashton gave the Marlies a two-goal edge when he deflected Greg McKeggs point shot past a screened Pickard at 10:02 of the second period. The advantage was shortlived, however, as Hishon put the Monsters on the scoreboard 52 seconds later when he redirected a slapshot past MacIntyre. Sgarbossa tied it up when he whacked in a rebound for a power-play goal at 18:35 of the middle frame. Ashton regained the lead for Toronto with his third goal of the game at 6:16 of the third period, and Brennans goal 45 seconds later sealed the win for the Marlies. Kozun capped the scoring with an empty-netter at 17:51 Toronto went 0 for 3 on the power play while Lake Erie was 1 for 6. The Marlies and Monsters are off until next weekend, when Toronto visits Lake Erie for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. Spud Webb Hawks Jersey . -- Free agent running back Tim Hightower has re-signed with the Washington Redskins. Jeff Teague Hawks Jersey . The Nationals, who saw a season-high eight-game win streak come to an end on Sunday, received RBI singles from Jerry Hairston Jr. and Danny Espinosa in the frame, before Ramos blasted a David Pauley offering over the fence in left- center. Pauley (4-1) suffered the blown save, while Brandon League, who started the ninth, was charged with three unearned runs. http://www.nbahawksofficial.com/womens-pete-maravich-basketball-jersey/ . The list of hopefuls has been long, if not particularly distinguished. Verron Haynes, Najee Davenport, Carey Davis, Gary Russell, Frank Summers, Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman all failed to consistently provide production in short-yardage and goal line situations. This series is rematch of a 2013 postseason matchup, as the Wild were the Blackhawks first victim in their march to the Cup last year. Hawks Jersey . The NHLPA announced on Saturday that Carcillo has asked NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman to review the ban handed down after Carcillo applied force to linesman Scott Driscoll in Thursday nights 3-2 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals.TSN football analyst Chris Schultz is back with his Week 16 selections in the CFL. The Big Man finished 3-1 in Week 15, and sits at 39-22 on the season. Now Schultz is ready for more action. Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Toronto Argonauts The Argonauts are 5-8 and the Ticats are 6-7. They did play earlier this season on Labour Day and the Ticats won that one 13-12 in a game where neither team played exceptional football. Between the two, this is a bit of a must-win for the Argos because if they lose they lose the season series with only one more game between the two, again in Toronto, on October 25. Both teams are playing their best right now. Even though the Argos defense shut down John White of Edmonton, I think Hamilton is progressing faster toward excellence. Between the two, Hamilton has allowed 68 fewer points. On offence I like Toronto. They have scored 60 more points than Hamilton and the Steele/Slaton rotation at running back is working. In the return game in the battle of hidden yardage between Brandon Banks and Chad Owens I will give a slight advantage to Owens as he can break tackles better than Banks who relies on elusiveness alone. Interesting how the season has evolved as both teams are so similar in many ways that anticipatory logic says it will be a field goal game. Even the kickers, Justin Medlock for Hamilton and Swayze Waters for Toronto are equal in ability. So, Toronto by 3. Ottawa Redblack at BC Lions Great win for Ottawa over Winnipeg 42-20 last Friday night. Tough, very tough loss for BC by two in Hamilton, making it 3 in a row: Toronto, Calgary and then Hamilton. Urgency is on the side of BC as at 7-7 they are two games behind the Roughriders and Eskimos and five games behind first place Calgary. And Winnipeg is only one game behind BC for that final playoff, possible crossover spot. The Lions need Tim Brown and Stefan Logan back this week. Both have that unique level of explosiveness athletically that can change games. How to fit them in the ratio is the problem and if they can it could make a difference. I will be looking forward to watching Johnathan Williams again for Ottawa. If he can have a dominant running game for a second week in a row that will go a long way to an upset win for the Redblacks. Or maybe upset win is the wrong term.ddddddddddddBack on September 5th BC beat 0ttawa but only 7-5. It was a close game where Travis Lulay re-injured his shoulder and there was a lighting delay. Urgency over satisfaction, BC over Ottawa. Saskatchewan Roughriders at Montreal Alouettes Strength for Montreal is coming off the bye week here in October. After the Roughriders, every game the Alouettes have is in the East with Toronto twice, and Hamilton and Ottawa once. In October all you can ask for is to control your own destiny and even at 5-8, if the As win all five it would be a 10-8 season and maybe good for first in the East. Jonathan Crompton may have yet to throw for 300 yards in his five starts but he is 4-1 and that has a much higher level of significance than a 300-yard game. With the Riders, Tino Sunseri coming off the bench has done a good job but that also means Montreal has video of him being his best. James Rogers for Montreal is quietly making a major contribution similar to Brandon Banks in Hamilton or Jock Sanders in Calgary. This game is a matchup of the power running of Saskatchewan against the deep ball receivers of Montreal: Duron Carter and SJ Green. In this one, deep ball wins. I’m going with Montreal. Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Edmonton Eskimos The first time these two teams played was July 17 and Edmonton was dominant and won 26-3. This could be a repeat. Coming off a loss in Toronto by one point in a game where Edmonton took 18 penalties for 224 yards you know they won’t be repeating that. And coming off a game where John White was shut down, that is unlikely to repeat as well. The saving grace for the 2014 season in Winnipeg is that no matter how it finishes, with four wins, four losses, or somewhere in between, they have found a quarterback that can be more than just good. Drew Willy has been the nice surprise of the season and will only get better. Not sure about everyone else as the season goes into the fourth quarter. Edmonton will respond after Toronto and Winnipeg had to respond if the Eskimos score first. Not sure they can do it. Fred Stamps is finding his groove, Adarius Bowman has already found his. Winnipeg will need Edmonton to self-destruct like they did in Toronto, not going to happen. I’m taking Edmonton. cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheapjerseyswholesale wholesale jerseys ' ' '
