SHANGHAI - Graeme McDowell lost command of the HSBC Champions. At least he kept the lead.McDowell rolled in a 30-foot birdie putt on the 10th hole Saturday that stretched his lead to four shots. That was his final birdie on a cold, grey afternoon at Sheshan International. He finished with a 1-under 71 and saw his lead dwindle to a single shot over Hiroshi Iwata of Japan.U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer and Masters champion Bubba Watson were two shots back.Lets be honest. Yes, I had a three-shot lead overnight and its only one now, McDowell said. But Ill take this position any week that you offer it to me — a one-shot lead going into the last round on a golf course that I enjoy. Looking forward to the opportunity tomorrow.McDowell was at 11-under 205.He will try to complete a wire-to-wire victory for his first World Golf Championship. If Saturday was any indication, it wont be easy. Not only did he lose ground on the back nine by making mostly pars, several players got back into the mix.Rickie Fowler overcame a double bogey on No. 9 with a 32 on the back nine for a 69. He was three shots behind, along with Tim Clark (69). Ian Poulter wasnt at his best with the putter and had to settle for a 72, though he remained in the mix just four shots behind with Thorbjorn Olesen (69).Iwata was a gate-crasher on a leaderboard top-heavy with major champions. McDowell had never heard of him until this week, and only saw him swing the club once in the group ahead. He referred to him as one of the great young players from Japan, unaware that he was 33 and in his 10th full season on the Japan Golf Tour.He cant be faulted for that. Iwata has one career victory — the Fujisankei Classic — and that was only two months ago.But he made six birdies on a day when the ball wasnt going anywhere, and neither were the players. It took some 5 1/2 hours to complete the round. Iwata rolled in a long birdie putt on the 18th hole for a 68 that put him in the final group.Maybe tomorrow coming up the last few holes, I might get a little bit nervous, but so far Im calm, Iwata said. So I think Im doing OK.Kaymer won the HSBC Champions three years ago by closing with a 63, and the German showed he was up to that kind of performance again. He made seven birdies against only one bogey for a 66 that put him in the last group with McDowell and Iwata.Watson looked powerful as ever and might be leading if not for one troublesome patch at the start of the back nine. With a sand wedge, Watson came up woefully short and caught a plugged lie in the bunker. He blasted out some 40 feet away and three-putted for a double bogey. He missed a short par putt two holes later. As usual, the final stretch at Sheshan International saved him.Watson hit his approach to 2 feet on the tough 15th, hit wedge to 3 feet on the 16th for another birdie, and then gouged out a wedge from deep rough that awed the Chinese crowd when it descended from the grey sky and plopped down next to the cup for a final tap-in birdie and a 69.A couple three-putts today and a double bogey. Thats sad, Watson said. But the birdies down the stretch really helped out.Not to be forgotten was his best shot of the day, a long iron over the creek that nearly went into the hole for an albatross 2 on the par-5 eighth hole. The ball settled just over 3 feet from the hole, except that Watson missed that and had to settle for a birdie.McDowell had a long three-putt bogey on No. 8 and his lead was down to two shots. But on the 10th, it appeared order would be restored. McDowell rolled in the 30-foot birdie putt up the ridge as Watson was taking double bogey, and the lead suddenly was four shots.Thats as large as it got.McDowell really only missed on a couple of shots. He faced 240 yards to a narrow opening to the green on the par-5 14th. Wanting to avoid the bunker just left of the green, he pulled it into deep rough and took away his chances of an easy up-and-down. He also hit a sand wedge some 25 feet beyond the cup on the short 16th, where Watson and Poulter birdied to close the gap.I felt maybe a tiny bit negative coming in, McDowell said. But when I went back and sort of thought through my round, you know, it was difficult. ... I wouldnt say I felt loose coming in, but I also knew it wasnt something I had to start protecting. I hit a lot of good putts today that didnt go in, and thats probably the main difference between shooting 1 under and 3 or 4 under today. Tony Bennetts Cavaliers are one of six unbeatens left in college basketball and were last in action back on Dec. 21. That proved to be one of the most dominant performances of the season, as Virginia absolutely destroyed Harvard, in a lopsided 76-27 decision. With the win over the Crimson, Virginia has now won 17 straight games at home and moved to 11-0 on the year, the teams best start since 1992-93. Bob McKillops Wildcats are off to a pretty good start in their own right. Davidson has suffered just one defeat on the season and that came on Nov. 22 at nationally-ranked North Carolina (90-72). Since then the team has reeled off seven straight wins and moved to 9-1 overall with an 80-68 win over the College of Charleston last time out. Virginia holds an 11-4 advantage in the series with Davidson and has won seven straight over the Wildcats, including last years 70-57 victory at TWC Arena. Davidson hasnt posted a win in this series since 1974. Strong offensive performances have been the norm for Davidson this season, as the team generates 87.7 ppg to rank third nationally. The Wildcats shoot the ball extremely well at a 48.3-percent clip and that continues beyond the arc, where the team hits 41.4 percent of the time. In addition, Davidson has done a great job on the boards and boasts of a +9.1 rebounding margin. There is plenty of scoring depth, as four Wildcats are currently averaging double figures. Tyler Kalinoski leads the way with his 16.1 ppg. Jack Gibbs is hot on his trail with 15.6 ppg and also serves as the teams top distributor (5.0 apg). Peyton Aldridge and Jordan Barham close out the potent quartet with 12.dddddddddddd4 and 10.8 ppg, respectively. Davidson was able to distance itself in the first half against the College of Charleston thanks to an 18-of-32 effort from the floor (.563), as the Wildcats took a 41-33 lead into the break. The team cooled off in the second half, but was able to keep the Cougars at bay to earn the win. Aldridge and Gibbs were sensational in the win. Aldridge nearly had a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Gibbs did complete the feat with 19 points and 11 boards. Barham finished the game with 14 points off the bench. Virginia is known for its defensive play, but the team took that to a new level against Harvard, as the Cavaliers tied the NCAA record in the shot-clock era by allowing just one field goal to the Crimson in the first half. The eight points allowed in the first half were the fewest allowed by Virginia in the shot-clock era as well. Meanwhile, the Cavs got it done offensively, shooting a scorching .596 from the floor in the game, including a .615 effort in the first half. Mike Tobey and Malcolm Brogdon led the team with 15 points apiece. Tobey completed a double-double 10 rebounds, while Brogdon doled out six assists. Virginia very well may be the best defensive team in the country and that is saying a lot with the numbers top-ranked Kentucky is throwing out there. The Cavaliers currently lead the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 46.2 ppg, while holding foes to an anemic .310 shooting. The team also ranks in the top five in the country in rebounding margin (+14.2). Junior guard Justin Anderson is having a strong season offensively, averaging 15.1 ppg, while shooting .563 from the floor, including a ridiculous .600 from behind the arc (24-of-40). Brogdon (13.1 ppg) and Anthony Gill (12.1 ppg) round out the top scoring options on the roster. cheap jerseys cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys Landon Donovan Jersey ' ' '
