MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Marc Gasol had 21 points and 10 rebounds, Mike Miller added 19 points, and the Memphis Grizzlies made a strong push in the third quarter to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 117-95 on Friday night. Tony Allen scored 15 points to help the Grizzlies preserve their playoff hopes. Memphis entered the night trailing the Suns by a game for the Western Conferences final post-season spot. The Suns were playing San Antonio. Nick Calathes added 12 points for Memphis, while Zach Randolph finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Grizzlies won their 13th straight at home, matching the franchise record set last season. Tony Wroten and Thaddeus Young led the Sixers with 18 points apiece. Elliot Williams added 13 for Philadelphia, which lost its third straight and fifth in the last six. The Grizzlies held a 10-point lead at halftime and outscored the Sixers 30-17 in the third with Allen and Gasol scoring eight points each. Memphis continued to dominate on the interior, outscoring Philadelphia 60-48 in the paint and outrebounding the Sixers 49-36 for the game. The Grizzlies shot 54 per cent from the field, compared to 44 per cent for the 76ers. Memphis shot 55 per cent in the first half to carry a 57-47 lead at intermission. Miller was 5 of 7, including connecting on all three of his shots outside the arc, as he and Gasol scored 13 points each. Gasol converted all but one of his seven shots in the half. Young scored 10 points for Philadelphia. Memphis led by as many as 12 in the first half, and its biggest problem was getting back on defence, allowing a couple of breakaways by Philadelphia. One of those irritated coach Dave Joerger so much, he called a quick timeout despite the Grizzlies leading. Memphis was hampered by eight turnovers in the half, and committed 16 on the night. The Grizzlies continued to build the lead in the third, turning up the defence as the Sixers seemed to lose whatever spirit they had at this point in a tough season. Near the end of the quarter and with the shot clock running down, Gasol connected from outside the top of the key -- only his second 3-pointer of the season -- to help the Grizzlies carry an 87-64 lead into the fourth. That was enough for Memphis to coast to the finish and get starters some rest heading into the final stretch run of the season. NOTES: The Sixers had several Memphis connections. Wroten was drafted by the Grizzlies. Elliot Williams and 10-day signee Adonis Thomas played at the University of Memphis, while Thaddeus Young was a high school standout in the city. Arnett Moultrie, who also played high school ball in Memphis, was inactive serving five-game suspension for violating league anti-drug policy. ... The Sixers have trailed by double-digits in 64 of their 79 games this season. ... Philadelphia is now 6-56 when it fails to reach 110 points. ... BARCELONA, Spain -- A youthful Barcelona team without Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta had little trouble beating BATE Borisov 4-0 on Tuesday to extend its unbeaten run at home in the Champions League to 13 matches. Despite coach Pep Guardiola resting most of his first-team players for next weeks "clasico" at Real Madrid, Barcelona stayed true to its style and dominated throughout. Sergi Roberto, a 19-year-old midfielder, scored the hosts opener in the 35th minute before 20-year-old defender Martin Montoya doubled the lead in the 60th. Pedro Rodriguez scored in the 63rd and capped the win with a penalty in the 89th. Barcelona had already advanced to the last 16 as Group H winner, while the Belarusian champions finished fourth. AC Milan went through as runner-up and Viktoria Plzen finished third to earn a spot in the Europa league. Those teams drew 2-2 on Tuesday. "This shows that our youth teams are very strong," said Pedro, a former product of Barcelonas La Masia academy. "These young players want to get a spot in the first team and they run a lot to try and earn it." It was Barcelonas 10th straight home game in all competitions without conceding a goal. During that stretch, Guardiolas team has outscored its opponents 40-0 at Camp Nou stadium. Coach Pep Guardiola chose Pedro to lead a starting team mainly composed of Barcelonas next crop of young talent. "The club is very fortunate to have this generation of players to draw from," Guardiola said. Striker Rafinha Alcantara, playing alongside older brother Thiago, had Barcelonas first chance two minutes in when he fired at goalkeeper Aleksandr Gutor. Forward Isaac Cueenca, who capped a strong performance with a goal in Barcelonas 5-0 rout of Levante at the weekend, provided the biggest threat for the hosts early on with a pair of strikes that went wide.dddddddddddd. BATE came close to taking advantage of a Barcelona turnover in the 26th, but defender Marc Bartra scrambled to clear a dangerous cross from Artyom Kontsevoi. Barcelona took control when Roberto, playing in place of Cesc Fabregas as an attacking midfielder, coolly slotted a loose ball into the right corner of the net after a BATE defender had deflected Thiagos incisive pass into his path. "This is a great day for the youth team and the club," Roberto said. "Almost all of us play together on the B team and this showed as we combined well." The Catalan side pressed further up the pitch to quickly decide the match after halftime. Montoya, who earned his first call-up to Spains senior team earlier this season, made it 2-0 when he raced in from the right flank to blast in Cuencas pass. Three minutes later, the 20-yeard-old Cuenca was again at the heart of Barcelonas attack by sending in a low cross for Pedro to deftly redirect the ball into the net with the inside of his right heel. The last goal was also manufactured by Barcelonas latest young star, Cuenca drawing a foul from Aleksandr Volodko in the area. Pedro stroked the ball in from the spot kick. "It is good to score to help me regain my confidence after being out a few weeks with injury," said Pedro, who lost his starting spot this season with the arrival of Fabregas and Chile forward Alexis Sanchez. "Now we have to think about the clasico and prepare for it well." ' ' '
